- 1:08SPEAKER_02: So you guys know how much I love science and I love science back skincare products.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: And so very, very excited about this opportunity.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Without further ado, I would like to introduce you guys to the co-founders of We Thrive Skin Care, uh Amy Batra and Dr.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: Sanjay Batra.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the show.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm so excited to be hosting both of you.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Akta.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: We're super excited to be a part of your show.
- 1:31unknown: Yeah.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's it's such it's such an honor to host both of you and Dr.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Batra, I'm so excited because I really can't wait to learn about the science.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: And, you know, I really want to learn about where the whole company started, though.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: If you guys could, you know, take a minute, maybe Amy, you could go started.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Um, make a maybe walk us down memory lane, you know.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: Um, how did everything begin?
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: And how did you and Dr.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Botra meet?
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Wow, wow, wow.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, that sounds good.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Um well, let's start with uh, I guess how we met, because then that would uh that's uh quite a few years ago.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: And so Sanjay and I met at a restaurant in our little town, well, actually across the bridge from our little town in uh Lambertville, New Jersey.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: And uh we met, and you know, the story goes, we fell in love and bought a house and joined our families, and we've been in our home in Bucks County for about 16 years, and together we have four kids.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: So I have one who's 37, his name is Ash, and Sanjay has three.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: We have Jason, 26, Justin 24, and Jaya, who just turned 21.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: We celebrated her birthday in Miami this just this past weekend.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: So together as a couple, we have four kids.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, wow, that's awesome! I love that.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Beautiful family.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Yes, thank you.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they they're all really great kids, and we you know, we've spent a lot many years raising them to be good people.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: And to move on to your next question to talk about, I think Sandra, you should introduce like how Dr.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Dr.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: I would love to get your uh your side of it.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: So, you know, uh Ecta, by way of background, I'm a PhD physiologist.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: I plan to teach physiology and I ended up in the pharmaceutical industry.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: I've worked for small companies, biotechs, startups, and large companies as well.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: In fact, Amy and I both worked at Johnson Johnson uh at the same time.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: And when I left JJ about 11 years ago, I wanted to return to being an entrepreneur.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: And I wanted to work with Amy, and so for the last 11 years, we've worked together, and our mission is very simple.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: We stay in facial aesthetics and dermatology, regenerative medicine, and hair loss, and we want to create the best products possible, and that's what we've done tirelessly.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: We, you know, I have a lot of experience.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: I have a lab in Doylestown where I work on a technology I'm sure you're familiar with called platelet-rich plasma.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: I have a lot of expertise there, but in the setting of We Thrive, our focus is facial aesthetics, post-procedure care, and we developed an amazing product to support hair growth.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: So that's what we've been doing, and just uh really enjoying uh this time in our lives.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: And you know, I just want to say it's it's quite a feat to take on so many different, you know, difficult areas of dermatology, Dr.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Bautcher.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: I really commend you for doing that.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: And the hair loss is really what for me um I found to be very intriguing right off the bat with We Thrive, because you know, recently, I don't know if you noticed or not, but a lot of the derms that we see on Instagram and TikTok, they've been, you know, discussing hair loss.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: And I was like, you know, we should have been talking about this 20 years ago, you know, and and and really kind of getting into it.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: So I love that your line like it incorporates that, it's it's not leaving that out because oftentimes in dermatology, people leave that aspect out, you know, even though, you know, I actually just wrote a paper on how pre-menopausal and and you know, peri and pre-menopausal women like suffer from excessive hair loss, you know, leading to sometimes, you know, alopecia, all of that.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: And unfortunately, it's not talked about.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: So that's an area I would love for us to dive into later in the show.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Um, but you know, I want to get started by really talking about, you know, you had mentioned the fundamentals um of the science.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: And I would love to understand, like, you know, where did it all begin in terms of the line?
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: You know, where did you guys start with the first product, you know, in terms of, okay, you know, we got something here, let's do it, that kind of thing.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: So I I actually um started my interest in hair loss when I was the CEO of a PRP company.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: The brand of that PRP is still on the market today.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: It's called cell phil.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: And we knew that the platelets release growth factors that could help stimulate dormant follicles or follicles that are miniaturizing in the setting of androgenetic alopecia.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: But we didn't know what we were doing.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: We didn't know how deep to inject it, how much to inject, how many treatments to have.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: And then following the PRP treatment, a patient would ask what they should do.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: And a doctor would basically say, do nothing but come back in six to eight weeks.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: And so that led us on our journey to look for a solution for hair.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: And we wanted a drug-free solution.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: You know, ECTA, it was very important for us to have something that didn't have side effects, like the two things that FDA has approved to this date, one being minoxidil and the other, of course, being finasteride, they have side effects.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: And so Amy and I, over the last two years during this pandemic, worked really hard to create what we think is the best product to support hair growth.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: And it's a drug-free topical serum called Revive.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I I think that that's, you know, it's it's so true what you said with the side effects.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: And that's really where I get very interested in hair health because, you know, we're we're talking about a con, you know, a set of conditions that are, I feel like this happens a lot with um allopathic medicine, Dr.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Bajer.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, correct me if I'm wrong, but we often go for the um, I guess, cures that are known for having the worst side effects.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: You know, we're still, we're still using, you know, I've said this before, we're still using anti-malarial drugs, you know, for a lot of dermatological conditions.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: And I find that to be completely unacceptable, you know.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: So I I think that, you know, you saying that by itself about having no side effects being safe, that's a huge statement in itself.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: And I think for everyone listening, like we have to really get behind this because, you know, at the end of the day, like the FDA is gonna approve what FDA approves, but it's really up to group members to figure out, you know, what is the best option?
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: What do we really want, you know?
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: And Ekto, to your point, both minoxidil and phenasteride were side effects for other drugs, you know.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, minoxidil was being developed in the 80s by the Upjohn Company for people with high blood pressure, and a certain subset of them had a side effect of hair growth.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: And phenasteride was being developed for BPH, it's on the market today under the name ProScar or Propecia, and a side effect was hair growth.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: So you're exactly right.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: And what we did here in our formula is we looked tirelessly at the literature, the non-clinical and clinical data to find not only the right ingredient secta, but to put them in at the right concentration to create a very elegant formula.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: And then beyond that, once we had the formula, we didn't think swallowing pills was that easy, especially if you look at some of the other products on the market.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: There are four large pills a day.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: It's very hard to be compliant, especially as you get older.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: I know I can't swallow four or four pills every day.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: So we created a topical roller serum.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: If this was a video, you'd see it only takes me 15 seconds a day to apply it to my scalp.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: And in the first time in my career, I'm doing something that's fun.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: So can you imagine that?
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: A drug-free solution, fun and easy to use.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: That's what we created.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I think that's that's an excellent point.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: And I and I really commend you for, you know, kind of standing up against the system in a way and saying, no, we're gonna find a better way.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: And, you know, I completely agree with you.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: I think it's such a hypocritical stance for in terms of hair loss and big pharma to take when they say, you know, we need something that can be taken systemically.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: No, you don't.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: We have an entire skincare industry that is proving that topical application of certain ingredients in the right combination and the right doses makes a difference.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: You know, there is this thing called going into the bloodstream.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: There's this thing called crossing that barrier and going in and working, you know, and so I think I'm I'm very much for the topical approach.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: I think it's, you know, the less invasive we can be with our bodies, the better, you know, and I often see that, you know, there's a lot of drugs out there in the market, you know, for things like hair growth or, for example, even skincare, you know, when we're thinking about some of the more pathological, uh, you know, based, you know, uh situations, people are taking things by mouth orally, you know, whether it's pills, whether it's, you know, whatever it is.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: And I'm thinking myself, well, why are you putting this in your entire body when you could target treat?
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: Targeted treatment.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: So with that being said, I want to talk to you about the real ingredient here, you know, with the um revive, you know, serum.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Like what is it that you really found to be um the key component, the key ingredient that was working?
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so so most hair products that are topical have either green tea extract or saw palmetto or caffeine.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, our product has those three ingredients, but in addition to that, another 15 ingredients.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: We believe this is the most elegant formula on the market.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: And as I mentioned earlier, we looked at the data to put those ingredients in at the right concentration, even though it may cost more to manufacture.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: It's one thing to say we have ingredient X, but it's another thing to have it in at an effective dose.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: So we work very hard.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: It makes our product a little more expensive for us, but it works.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: And we're now seven months into our launch.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: Um, we have 1,500 customers who've trust us, trusted us with buying our product online.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: And we're really humbled by that, ECTA.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: And it just tells us, as you said earlier, what an underserved area this is and what a large area of unmet need.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: No, absolutely.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: It's it's truly is.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, it genuinely is like I said, you know, I when I was writing my little mini review, I was diving into the literature and I was like, gosh, there is nothing out there for hair growth.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, it's just the same old, like tie tie, you know, tried and tired.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, we say uh tried and true, but this is tried and tired, you know, care bees that have been floating around for decades now.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: So I I hear you there.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Um, Amy, I would love to have you chime in and talk to us about the other products in the line.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: I know that, you know, We Thrive is a really, really great brand, which you know, Dr.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Baker kind of touched on here, which is we're we're covering a lot of concerns, you know.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: So maybe you could walk us through the masks and the and the skincare products because I really enjoy the serum.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: And I think that, you know, I would love for the listeners to get a get a feel of what you guys were thinking there with the the philosophy of it.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, that would be great.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: So mascade, wow, when we first started, it wasn't even called mascade, but uh mascade is our line in facial aesthetics and currently and the professional series consists of um mascade uh professional, which is used in the doctor's office and at home, which is used, you know, you know, once they leave the office and they go home.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And then we have our hydrating serum and we have an anti-aging serum coming out.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: But let me just step back for a minute because I want to explain to you why I thought it was important.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: So, you know, being in this industry since 2004, I worked for Santa Fe Adventist and launched Sculpture, I launch, you know, worked with Radius, I launched launched Evalence with Johnson ⁇ Johnson.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: I've done everything from sales to marketing to CME workshops, and and I am a beauty junkie.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: So I've had my fair share of you know treatments like microneedling and I've had CO2 laser and I've had all kinds of things, IPL.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: And one of the things, and then this happened uh especially during COVID when we had so much time to think.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: And I just I kept coming back to the fact that the you know, the post-procedure care market was really just so limited.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, I remember, you know, going in and having you know uh CO2 laser done, and really there was like nothing that they gave me after the fact, like an ice pack, and then they tell you to put on, you know, some aquifer, you know, something like that.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: And and even as recently as a month ago when I had Morpheus 8, which is uh radio frequency microneedling, um, the same thing, you know, they gave me an ice pack, and I'm like, what am I supposed to do with this?
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: So I really, really felt like I really truly believe that the market is missing something, and and that's a better post-procedure care uh protocol.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: So that's where the masks came into play.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: And and I also think that, you know, from the clinician side or the provider side, I truly believe that, you know, they think their patients are happy when they walk out the door.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: They're like, okay, you know, they could have spent$300,$500,000,$5,000, and you know, the patient's face is red, it's uncomfortable.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: And you know, when they go home, they're trying to move this little, you know, round ice pack all over their face, you know, to get some relief.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: And and then on the flip side, I really think that patients, because they don't know any better, think, oh, my face is supposed to be red and hurt and hot when I walk out of you know, this procedure.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: So hence mascade was born.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: So what mask what's really super cool about mascade is it's unlike any face mask in the market, in that number one, it's a dry mask.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: So people are like, oh, what is a dry mask?
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Well, it's kind of like what it sounds.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: It is uh it's it's a hydrogel-based mask.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: It's uh a certain technology, which is patent pending, that actually cools and calms the skin following treatments, while it delivers topical ingredients such as platelet-rich plasma, exosomes, growth factors, and hyaluronic acid.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: So, you know, in these cases before where the physician would provide a face mask, it was typically, you know, a wet sheet mask that was dripping all over the place, had a plethora of ingredients, of which some were probably really not ideal to put on the skin following a procedure where you have open channels.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: So the first thing we did with mascade professional is we reached out to experts and just talked to them about what we should have in this mask?
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: What do we want to do with this?
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: So we determined like that, you know, this is not even just a face mask, it's a tool.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: It's a tool to add to, you know, the your practice so that you can, you know, deliver things like PRP and also cool and calm the skin.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: It's it's more than a face mask, it truly is.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I don't want to keep going because I could probably go.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: I was just you know, really tuning in and listening because I I think that's a brilliant approach.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: And I think that it really for me, I'll be honest with you guys, I've worked a lot with burn patients.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: And I, you know, when when you first explained to me the the you know real use of this and how to use it, I was like, oh, I get it.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: It's like a grafting mechanism almost.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Like it's like a, you know, it's when we put grafts on burn patients, we're it they're not soaked in anything.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: We're we're delivering a way of healing the skin.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: And I think that approach definitely needs to be carried forward in this post-laser treatment kind of thing.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: Because I I really agree, you know, in terms of delivering what we need to the skin, you need a a clean base, you know, the mask has to be not contaminated by anything, you know, you can't have contamination, you can't have any kind of like, you know, things you don't want on the skin because laser post-laser skin is the same as almost post-surgical, you know, it's it's really a procedure you went through, like you said, and your skin is very vulnerable and it needs to be treated with a lot of care, a lot of, you know, just detailed care.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: So now I am wondering where do all of the ingredients that you mentioned, you know, in terms of the plasm, the the plasma and all of the things that you mentioned, where do they get delivered?
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: They're already in the mask, or do we have to add on serum as well?
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: So great question.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: And and what you said is exactly true.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: You need a clean sort, you know, you want a clean product.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: You have open channels, you've compromised skin.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: So masqueed is a two-piece, three-layer mask.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: And the first thing you do is you peel off the which you can't see me, but I'm manually doing it with the in the air.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Um, you peel off the clear layer, and that clear liner is there to protect the mask from any impurities.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: And then what you do is after you've done a treatment, such as microneedling, for example, you know, let's say today you, you know, you're gonna put platelet rich plasma on someone's skin, on the mask.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: So you're literally putting droplets of PRP onto the mask and spreading it out.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: The mask holds four to five mls of PRP or any other uh, you know, topical ingredient, and then you're placing the mask on the face.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: So the front, the bottom, and then the top.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: So the PRP is you know being driven into the skin, into the channels while it's cooling and calming the skin.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: So while you can't see this audience, um, you know, it's a three-layer mask.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: We took off that clear liner that protects it.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: We have the mask itself, we put the mask on on our face, and then there's a top blue liner.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: That blue liner is really important because what it does is it's trapping the heat um in the skin, which you want for a short period of time, like about five minutes.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then once it once the mask gets to your skin temperature, you remove the top blue liner.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: It's sort of a secondary cooling effect.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: And basically what's happening is the evaporation of the water is continuously cooling the skin.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: And when I say cooling, I mean cooling, it feels so amazing.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Patients are thrilled, they want to know how long I can leave it on.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Well, if you're just trying to get rid of the redness that you got from the treatment, you probably need 25, 30 minutes.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: However, because it's also a two-piece mask, it adheres and conforms to the face really well on most patients, and they can walk around with it on.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: So rather than keeping that patient in the chair for 25, 30 minutes, you can literally um just once you've taken off the blue liner, you can put them in a waiting room.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: They can go home.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, we've had uh people that we've known that have literally worn it for hours.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: We had a good friend come in from California, she works for Allergan.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: We did a little treatment on her with some PRP and microneedling, and she put the mask on and then she fell asleep with it until the next morning.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: And she it's this is a true story.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: I'm not making this up.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, it was perfect, and because there's nothing in this mask that can cause.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Any harm.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: There's nothing in there.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: The only ingredient is highly purified water.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: It's the technology that you know that we patented.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: I guess people didn't think of this.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: So it's really a clean approach to post-procedure care, to delivering topical ingredients.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: And it's it's pretty fantastic.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: So what's also really cool is the you can customize it.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Like Ecta, what do you want to do today?
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: Do you want, you know, do you want hyaluronic acid or do you want PRP?
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Do you want some exosome?
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: What do you want, doctor?
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: What do you want, patient?
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: It's it's customizable, which is very cool.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: And then and then we have a second mask, which is called at home.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: And it sounds like what it is.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: You know, I've had CO2 laser.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: I know for the next seven days my face is seven to ten days, my face is gonna be really red, really uncomfortable.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: And that's the perfect opportunity for at home.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Use it with our really clean hydrating serum.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: And let me just tell you about that for 10 seconds.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, please do.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: No, I go into detail.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Um so mascade hydrating serum basically is a hyaluronic acid, but I wanted it to be super simple and clean because what I found is that with many of the big brands and smaller brands, it didn't really matter.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: I would see they had so many ingredients that just were fillers or unnecessary, and certainly something you know you're not wanting to put on sensitive or you know vulnerable skin.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: So it just has highly purified water, sodium hyaluronate and benzyl alcohol.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: And that to benzyl alcohol was recommended to me by some of our experts and doctor friends who are in this industry because it's like one of the best preservatives, and it has an antimicrobial function as well.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: So it's just super, super clean.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Everybody loves it, it's affordable.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: It comes in two sizes.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: It's a one ounce and a four-ounce, and you know, it just it's fantastic.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: So, so that person who goes home and they still need a little bit of love, drop on some, you know, mascade hydrating serum, put it on your face, relax, put your feet up, and you know, get that continued relief.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: No, I love that.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: I really love that.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: And you're putting the care, I think my favorite part is you're putting the care or post-operative care, you would say, in the hands of the of the patient.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: And that is so important because I can't tell you how many times, you know, I've been in the surgical field, I can't tell you how many times I've had patients say, Well, I don't like the way you guys are doing this.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: I don't like the way you guys are treating me, you know, post-operatively.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: And it's like, well, what would you want me to do?
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: You know, like how would you, how would you want me to better your care or to improve your care?
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: And a lot of the times it's that feeling of independence because a lot of times people feel from just the data I've gathered, you know, qualitative data from feedback is that patients feel a little vulnerable, you know, after any kind of procedure.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: And so when you're putting that power back into the consumer's hand, back into the patient's hand, that's a very powerful thing, you know, and that's a that's a really, really great way to like encourage um, you know, just everyday consumers, everyday people who are interested in aesthetics to really understand why we're using the things we're using, you know, and that's for me the real hallmark here, you know, of of just amazing companies such as Weed Thrive, because we, you know, this really goes back to the point of big pharma that I was talking to Dr.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: Batra about, which is we can't, you know, you you can't keep looking to the big guy, you know, or big brother to give you solutions.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: You gotta like take control, you gotta understand your own health, you gotta understand why we're doing what we're doing and why things work the way they do.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: So I feel like, Amy, you know, what you have created here is it's beautiful.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: It's a beautiful approach, you know, and and the fact that it's it's giving consumers a more like you know, hands-on experience, a more understanding of what it's what it takes to recover from post-laser procedures or anything, that's huge, you know.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm not gonna lie, lasers came out and I was I I mean, I was kind of just you know, a newbie, you know, I was kind of in in this realm of not knowing what the heck is going on.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: And I I was, you know, very confused about all the different laser techniques.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: But I what I quickly realized is that you can either have a really great experience or you can have a really bad one.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: And it really depends on where you go.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: But a lot of that I would have to say, you know, is credited to what is that post-op procedure that you're undergoing, you know, what is that care aspect that you're looking, you know, you're going into after you've had your procedure.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: So I think this is huge.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: This is really huge.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: You you know, Ekka, I do want to say something for your listeners at Skincare Anarchy, and uh, it's really to give props to my wife.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: She she worked so hard on this mask, it's been a passion project for her for the last two to three years.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: She wouldn't settle or accept mediocre, she made it the best mask in the world, and she thought about it from every angle, from the angle of an inventor or innovator to a patient for a healthcare provider.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: And what's great about being in a small company, to your point, is we're not tied down with bureaucracy.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: We just create great products.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: We wake up early every day and we have a mission to be best in class.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: And and we won't release or create anything unless we know it's the best product on the market.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: And that gives us so much satisfaction, you know.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's wonderful, Dr.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: Roger.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: I I really, you know, Amy truly hats off to you for this.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: You know, we need more forward-thinking, you know, people.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: And I think as a woman, I can definitely say huge, you know, accol give you huge accolades for that because I think women are very detail-oriented, you know, and so it makes me happy to see that you really put your soul into this and and you've created this because, you know, I see a lot of products, you know, I see a lot of products coming in and out.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: And especially when it comes to face masks, it's often, you know, they're, I'm not gonna lie, face masks are my favorite skincare product.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: Like, no joke.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: I rave about them, you know, and so when I see something like this that has this real scientific medical backing, that's amazing to me.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: And it further validates why I think you can have such amazing results if you're just following the steps, if you're following the science.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: And just, you know, follow the yellow brick road, you guys, you know, for everyone listening.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: You know, here's Amy and Dr.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Roger have created just this wonderful product, you know, and that's what I like to tell everyone that's tuning in in onto our podcast is you know, the people behind these products are are brilliant, you know, and their minds are brilliant.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: And what they're creating is gonna be something that is so well thought out, you know, and it's not just gonna be another, like for example, like the beauty industry, there's another makeup product coming out every day.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Well, you can't say that about skincare.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: Skin care is science, you know, that's real science.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: It takes years of innovation, studying, you know, and so when I see this kind of innovation, I'm like blown away.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: I think this is amazing.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: And I can't wait to see what, you know, once this is patented and everything is, you know, moving forward with that, I would love to see this being utilized in trauma, you know, surgeries and in burn movements.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: That's what I want to see.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, and why not?
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean, right now we just have, you know, the the material and the face in the shape of a face, but you know, we're looking at other, you know, other areas too, because a lot of times um the neck is being treated or the declete, you know, and then under the eyes.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: There's so many, there's so many ways you could go with this.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: But you know, I thank you for your kind words and and and Sanjay is right.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: I looked at every aspect of the mask and almost to the point where it was probably pretty annoying.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Because even I mean, I would get a prototype and I'd just say, I don't like how this hangs or fits, because what was equally as important to me as the science behind it was that it was aesthetically pleasing.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: So I didn't want people to feel like they're wearing this god-awful thing, and we're in this visual world where everything is being photographed and put on LinkedIn and you know, social Instagram and wherever.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: So I wanted it to be pretty.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, I wanted it to look good.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: And if you could have seen ECTA, it was it's also it's so funny.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: For like two and a half years, I have many different iterations of this mask in the thickness and the shape and all this craziness.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: But we are at the place where it's it's final, and I'm super thrilled with it.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: And what I like also about the at-home mask, and I'm just gonna plug it right here, is you know, you don't really necessarily have to have a procedure, you know, to do this.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Maybe you microneedle yourself at home.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying that I recommend that, but maybe you have a little roller, um, or maybe you're doing something else.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: Well, now, you know, you you have a mask that you at home can customize.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: Do you want to you want to use your favorite, you know, naked and thriving serum?
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Go for it.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: You know, you want to use my hyaluronic even better.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: But you know what's really funny, acta is do you love face masks?
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: And I always loved face masks.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: I'm a I'm a product junkie.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: It's admitted.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: What I'm more now than anything, especially after creating Mascade, I'm a serum junkie.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: I love serums because I know that I can take my two serums, my anti-aging is coming out in about four weeks, and I can put it on the mask, put it on my face, and I'm gonna get, you know, it's gonna drive into the skin, even though there are no open channels, you know, through fixed law diffusion, you know, the concept is transdermal technology, and you know, it's customizable.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: I you people make it what you want it to be.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: You have your serum at home, great.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Now, when it comes to post-procedure care and you've had something done, obviously you stick to the basics, you stick to the professional mask, something clean like PRP, exosomes, uh, growth factors and and hyaluronic, nothing else.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: But you know, when you get home and you want to do some fun things on the weekends with your friends, you can do that.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: And you can, you know, like I like all kinds of serums, you know what I mean?
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: So I I'm obviously partial to mine, but I certainly have my fair share of different brands, and you know, I think that's what's kind of neat about it, you know?
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: No, I think it's it's definitely an area that um, you know, it it's underrated, you know, the masking area.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: I think there's a lot, and you know, I Amy, honestly, if I were to be, you know, very real, I've tried all the masks.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, I honestly, I really have I've tried so many masks that I think a lot of that that wrap like it comes from a lot of things that don't do anything for your skin, you know, and it's like, well, you people don't understand the materials that go into making a good face mask are actually very complicated, you know, like you described here with the different layers of, you know, uh mascot.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: Like you have to really, you know, really, really go into it and understand what is it that's in this material that's going to lead to something that is benefiting my skin after I leave it on for a certain amount of time.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: You know, for everyone listening, when you put a mask on and it's on your face, right?
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: And it's sitting on your face like a second skin, that's a whole process in itself.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: And the the physiology and the and the the things that are the biochemistry and all of those great words of science that we like to use that's taking place during that time is a very complex situation.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: It's a very complex set of mechanisms, and there is a purpose there, you know, it's a protective mechanism and it's also a regenerative mechanism.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: And so, you know, I think maths have gotten this like, you know, kind of like this dated, you know, reputation from what I've heard at least, which I completely disagree with.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: Um, but it's because people don't understand their use and they don't understand why they're using them and how to use them and when to use them.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: So I'm, you know, I'm really excited for the product you've created here because you're really bringing the science and the medicine to the forefront.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: And you're saying, hey, come look at this mask area of skincare again and revisit it and really think about it because there's a lot here to be understood.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: And I'm I'm with you there.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: You know, I fully back everything that you've said here.
- 34:41SPEAKER_02: I think it's it's so crucial to get this knowledge out to consumers because we are just surrounded with a plethora of products.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: You know, everyone's like, buy this serum and buy this serum, but it's like, you know, where's the functionality, right?
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: Where's the function functional component, the engineering component, the medical component?
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: That's where you guys stand out to me because that what you've created.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: You said, you know, it was a little frustrating at times, but you went through the motion so that we don't have to be frustrated as consumers.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: So I I really, really value that and I I commend you and I'm just so grateful that you did that for us.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: Well, thank thank you very much.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: Um, I can certainly say that both Revive and Mascade and the product portfolios with them were very well tested before we launched them.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: We wanted to be sure that they worked.
- 35:29SPEAKER_03: In fact, if you go to mascade.co, our website, you'll see through three white papers that we've published.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: We share the information very freely.
- 35:38SPEAKER_03: One of the studies was done by a plastic surgeon, Dr.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: Gordon Sazaki, who's a dear friend and colleague.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: The other two studies were done by a board-certified dermatologist in New Jersey, Jeff Rappaport.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: And you can find those white papers at mascade.co.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: And also, if you'd like to see this, Amy and our colleague Erica, who manages our sales and marketing, they can do a 15-minute Zoom with anyone who's interested.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: We'd be happy to share with your listeners our products and show them to you firsthand.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: When you see the mask, it's very different than what you'd expect.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: And I think, Ecta, you're exactly right that we we pushed the envelope here.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: We were very disruptive and very innovative and simply created the best products in the world.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Yes, absolutely, Dr.
- 36:26SPEAKER_02: Brasher.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: And I'm very, very thrilled to see that you guys are pushing that envelope because that's really what science is all about.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: And like I said, skin is science, you know, it's an organ, you guys.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: And for everyone listening, like, you know, these are the companies I want you to invest in.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: If you're a consumer and you're looking for real results, well, you got to go to the real science.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: You can't go to this is pretty and pink packaging.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: And I mean, no, no hate there, right?
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: There's no hate there.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: But you got to really understand what your skin needs, why it needs it, and then go to the people who know the science.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: And I feel like, you know, when I have science-heavy brands and just really like forward-thinking brands, such as We Thrive on this podcast, I'm I'm hoping that you're listening and you're, you know, taking my advice and really kind of investing your money in the right place because one of the biggest arguments that comes up is, you know, people are just wasting their money.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: And I agree.
- 37:20SPEAKER_02: And I think a part of that is because, you know, Dr.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: Bogger and Amy, I think it's because people don't understand the science.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: They don't get it, you know, or they don't want to get it.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: And I think that's where, you know, I want to actually ask you another question, it's more business side of the things is that how has that been for you guys as entrepreneurs, as scientists, um, in terms of just getting this out to the general consumer and making it accessible?
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: You know, what's that journey been like for you?
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: So, you know, for the last three years, we've uh happily done this as projects of passion.
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: We self-funded our company.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: We've had eight or nine friends or in uh family investors come in.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: They all approached us and wanted to be part of our journey.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: Three of them are physicians, two plastic surgeons, and a dermatologist.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: And uh we have a very small team, but an amazing team of highly talented people.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: And we're growing and we're building, and we're looking at models.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: We're looking at whether to hire a sales force for the professional market or stick to DTC with e-commerce, and we're learning a lot.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: You know, we're not uh young chickens anymore.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: So learning about e-commerce and the sales funnel and the cost of pay uh customer acquisition online is kind of fun, actually.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: So, you know, there's a lot of learning along the way, but if you have the best products and the best um desire to support them, as you said, with the science, uh, you know, you know, you can be very successful.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: And that's what we aspire to be.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: I love that very much.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: And I think that it's definitely, definitely true.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: I, you know, and I want to round out the episode, Dr.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: Bacher, especially, you know, with you, you know, being in the field of medicine and science, I want you to give some words of wisdom to all of the young professionals listening out there who are, you know, who want to make a line that is backed in science, you know, and even Amy from your standpoint, you know, after um all the trials that you've gone through with making mascade, you know, I want you guys to really give some words of wisdom for so that people can learn, you know, how to approach this area of this industry because it's very different, you know, and like I said, it's very different from general beauty products.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Skincare is not, I don't even think skincare should be in the beauty category, it should be in a completely science-related category, you know.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: So I'd love for you guys to give some words of wisdom and offer some advice for all the young listeners out there.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: Uh maybe I can start by saying that, you know, I've had a lab, a research lab at the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center for we're now in our fifth year, and it's been our place to have complete freedom.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: I don't take funding from any companies because we want to do what we think is right.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: And Amy was at the lab yesterday with Erica.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: So, Amy, even though she has a sales and marketing background, and so does Erica, they spend as much time in the lab as I do.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: And we're all free.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: We're all free to innovate.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: And the advice I would like to share with young people who might be thinking about a career here is you can't be all things to all people.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: So when someone says, we do everything or we have everything or we'll we're full service, I would say find that thing that you're really good at, get really deep expertise in it, and then go out and change the world.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: Do something different.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: Don't compete on price.
- 40:47SPEAKER_03: Don't say, well, my product is like your product, but it's 10% cheaper.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: Do something better for your stakeholders, for your physicians, for their patients, for customers.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: And if you create a better product, there will be a market.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: But don't try to be all things to all people.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: That would be the advice I would share for your wonderful listeners at Skin Anarchy.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much, Dr.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: Bajar.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: Amy, any anything to add there?
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll just add my my little two cents here.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: I would say, you know, it's someone who's, you know, and I can I'm looking at Erica as I'm sitting here, and she's someone that I'm I think I'm mentoring, and she's my mentee.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: And I would say, you know, find something that's missing.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: You know, what's you know, from your perspective, audience, you young person, what is missing?
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: What do you think is missing?
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: And are you passionate about it?
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: Because if you're passionate about it and there's a need out there, then work hard and you know, use all the resources that you can and just make one excellent product before you move on to, you know, making 10 of them.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: And I think that, you know, you'll be successful and and find and use your resources.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: There are so many resources out there that you might even not, you know, realize.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: But your friends on LinkedIn, you know, just whatever it is, you know, just use your resources, be passionate, and find find a need, um, something that's missing.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: And that that would be my advice.
- 42:21SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: That's that's solid advice, words of wisdom.
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: You know, these are jewels.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: And I I always always ask for this from prominent guests because I think this is very rare to get these kind of real mentorship, you know, just words and sentences that help us get through careers, you know, our career path.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: I think when I was growing up, you know, nobody was there to give me advice, you know, in terms of the medicine or whatever I wanted to do.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: And I feel like now young professionals have so many resources.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: So, this kind of this kind of feedback, it it means the world to me.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: And I know it it means a lot to our listeners because we get feedback about how this helped them a lot.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: So thank you so much to both of you, Amy and Dr.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: Batter.
- 42:59SPEAKER_02: This was wonderful.
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: It was a pleasure.
