- 0:48Well, if you're a Knicks fan, this is not going to be an
- 0:52exciting night. And I just have this bad feeling
- 0:56that the Knicks are going to lay up a lousy goose egg tonight.
- 1:00I just, something tells me the Knicks aren't going to show up
- 1:02tonight at Madison Square Garden in front of a jam packed fan
- 1:06base that has been screaming for a world championship for, I
- 1:11don't know, 50 years. It's absolutely despicable how
- 1:14the Knicks have not shown up in this series.
- 1:17And I'm going to say this this over and over and over again.
- 1:20And I want to see more grit by the New York Knicks tonight.
- 1:23I want to see a start really, really strong by the New York
- 1:27Knicks tonight. I don't want to hear any excuses
- 1:30from the New York Knicks tonight.
- 1:32And Tom Thibodeau shave that goddamn head.
- 1:35I am so tired of looking at ugly mug that he has.
- 1:39But nevertheless, it's going to be a crazy 1, ladies and
- 1:42gentlemen. But listen, guys, I just want to
- 1:45say something. It is back and forth with this
- 1:47weather. We had rain, then the sun's
- 1:50peeking out. I don't get this weather.
- 1:52I don't get anything here in Long Island.
- 1:54But there's no volcanoes and there's no tsunamis, so I guess
- 1:58I'm lucky about that. There's no descriptive death
- 2:03anytime soon. But who knows?
- 2:05It could happen. It could be an earthquake.
- 2:08We can crack and we can be split, you know, in four or
- 2:12five. I, I don't know, but we have the
- 2:14five boroughs in Long Island has nothing to do with the boroughs
- 2:17And it, it doesn't make any sense either.
- 2:19But hey, we live in New York and New York is just one of those
- 2:22places you sometimes wish you want to be and most of the time
- 2:26you just want to get the hell out of here.
- 2:28But hey, Jabba, how are you? I mean, obviously the weather is
- 2:32probably around. I would say 70 something degrees
- 2:35because you're wearing a hat. Yeah, we got 60, about 67, but
- 2:40we got some rain so we got a little humid.
- 2:42But yeah, so it's been, it's been nice out today.
- 2:46Actually, it's the sun's been out.
- 2:47So it when the sun's out, it actually feels a little bit
- 2:50nicer than what it is. But yeah, it's supposed to be
- 2:5260s and then supposed to get up to warmer, I guess.
- 2:56But like I said, you never know here.
- 2:58We don't have to worry about volcanoes or anything.
- 3:00The only thing we got to worry about is tornadoes, so.
- 3:03Yeah, you just have to go to California or the West Coast or
- 3:06go to Hawaii if you want to experience a wonderful volcano
- 3:09eruption. But hey, I'm about to erupt
- 3:12because I've been watching this absolutely despicable team as
- 3:17the New York Knicks. I want to hear it.
- 3:18I know Keith is going to call off the show a little bit later
- 3:21and I'm sure he has his own opinions because most of the
- 3:24time me and Keith go back and forth and I never get a chance
- 3:26to speak. As a matter of fact, if I'm
- 3:28lucky enough, I actually finish at least one or two sentences.
- 3:33So when, when he actually calls the show and it will be a little
- 3:37bit later in the show, I'm positive about that expect Keith
- 3:41to be Keith. So I, it's, it's one of those
- 3:44crazy days and, and I want to see another thing.
- 3:46And I I watch a lot of sports, but I I tail away from sports
- 3:50over the last couple of months. Not that I don't watch the
- 3:54games, I watch a lot of games, but I don't watch it as much.
- 3:57I've been open to watching a lot of documentaries.
- 4:00So I've been sneak peeking on so many different docu docu's.
- 4:05I watch a lot of murder documentaries, but I also watch
- 4:09a lot of documentaries that have something to do with sports.
- 4:11But Thievery. And I don't know if anybody's
- 4:15checked out Brett Favre's Untold Story over there on Netflix.
- 4:20And if you're a Brett Favre fan, and I'm sure there's quite a few
- 4:23of them out there, and I'm probably tons of them, if you
- 4:28actually watch that documentary, it'd probably make you sick to
- 4:31your stomach and you probably will burn his jersey because
- 4:34that's the despicable person that he is.
- 4:36He's a absolutely disrespectful man when it comes to women, when
- 4:42it comes to money, a rich guy who obviously doesn't dig into
- 4:46his own pockets. He steals from the poor.
- 4:49It's a typical story for, you know, different athletes we've
- 4:54seen over the years or musicians or entertainers in many
- 4:58different businesses that have tons and tons of money, made
- 5:01millions and millions of dollars off of endorsements, but don't
- 5:04want to dig into their own pockets and help anybody out but
- 5:08their damn selves or their their family.
- 5:09So Brett Farve, if you don't get a chance to check that out,
- 5:13well, then you're an idiot. And if you're a football fan,
- 5:15you definitely want to go and check it out.
- 5:17And if after you're done with that, you want to watch the
- 5:19Aaron Rodgers documentary, which I never got a chance to finish
- 5:23because I could give a damn if you ever get a chance to see the
- 5:27three or four part documentary of Aaron Rodgers, good luck on
- 5:30that. Because by the time you're done
- 5:31with that, you're going to want to smoke with him or drink with
- 5:34him or do whatever the hell he does in his private life.
- 5:36The Pacers won Game 4 versus the Knicks 1:30 to 1:21 to take a
- 5:42three one series lead. Tyrese Halliburton became the
- 5:46first player in NBA history to have a triple double of over 30
- 5:50points, over 15 assists and 0 turnovers.
- 5:54He also was the first player to average over 18 points, 5
- 5:59rebounds, and 9 assists with just two turnovers in a team's
- 6:04first fourteen playoff games. Rick Carlisle said that
- 6:08Halliburton should have had had statistically category his own
- 6:11category name for himself. Comparing Halliburton legendary
- 6:16point guard to legendary point guard John Stockton and Chris
- 6:20Paul. Josh Hart said that the Pacers
- 6:24are very tough, no duh to defend and if one domino falls, it
- 6:31messes up the whole possession. Carl Anthony Towns also said
- 6:35everybody has to step in defending Halliburton, not just
- 6:40Jalen Bronson. The Knicks will look to keep
- 6:44their season alive tonight in game five at home.
- 6:49Well, I, I don't know what to say.
- 6:51Tyrese Halliburton has been choking himself all series long
- 6:55and pretty much giving it to the New York Knicks fans, giving it
- 6:58to me. I, I've really turned an A leaf
- 7:02over on Tyrese Halliburton and to me, I, I like his game.
- 7:07I think he's so talented for a guy his size on a point guard
- 7:10that can do so many things naturally so well.
- 7:14I just don't like watching this kid because he reminds me too
- 7:17much of all the past Pacers that have stuck it to the New York
- 7:21Knicks. And this is one of those guys
- 7:24that for the next, I would say 10 to 12 years, we're going to
- 7:28have to experience watching this guy go on a basketball court,
- 7:31either Indiana or in New York, and just absolutely embarrass a
- 7:36team that doesn't know how to stick him defensively.
- 7:40I blame this on Tom Thibodeau and I will go deep into this
- 7:44story because I believe the problem right now is coaching.
- 7:48Everybody's going to say, well, guess what, NBA, you don't
- 7:51really need a good coach. All you need to do is get
- 7:54yourself two to three really good players and play them and
- 7:57then you have a decent bench and you can win a championship.
- 8:00Well, that's not quite true. Now, if you have guys like
- 8:03LeBron James in the prime of his career or maybe Dwyane Wade in
- 8:07his prime of his career or Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan, yeah,
- 8:11you, you can win championships with those type of guys.
- 8:13But when you have guys like Jalen Brunson and Karl Anthony
- 8:17Towns that don't play a lick of defense, well, you got 2
- 8:21dimensional players that don't know anything but
- 8:24one-dimensional type of basketball.
- 8:25So that is the problem right now with the New York Knicks and a
- 8:29guy like Tom Thibodeau who's bald as hell, who doesn't know
- 8:33how to shave or even keep his hair in somewhat of a PER, you
- 8:37know, something to look at. I wanted to say something else,
- 8:40but I don't want to embarrass him.
- 8:42But to me, I just think that Tom Thibodeau is way over his head.
- 8:46Rick Carlisle is a better coach, and I think Rick Carlisle has a
- 8:50better game plan. Every single half you watch the
- 8:53Knicks in the first half, especially in the first quarter,
- 8:56they're the start of the game, at least the first 7 minutes of
- 8:59the game, they're getting outplayed.
- 9:01They're down by 7-8, sometimes 10 points.
- 9:04And then you get close to the third quarter at the end of the,
- 9:07I'm sorry, at the end of the second quarter with about two
- 9:10minutes, 3 minutes left, the Knicks always make a run.
- 9:13They cut it down to six or seven and they go into the half
- 9:17thinking, hey, the Knicks got a chance.
- 9:20If they pick up the pace in the third quarter, they can take the
- 9:23lead and make the Pacers work for every single point.
- 9:26That's what you would think when you have guys like OG and Anobi
- 9:29and the Carol Bridges. I don't know what the Knicks are
- 9:33doing in at half. Maybe they're drinking some
- 9:35Coca-Cola, drinking some beers or sniffing some lines.
- 9:39Because by the time they come back after the half, it looks
- 9:43like they were partying in the locker room or they thought,
- 9:45hey, this is going to be an easy quarter.
- 9:47We don't have to play. All we got to do is minimize the
- 9:51mistakes that we made in the first half and we're going to
- 9:53kick the crap out of the Pacers. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I
- 9:56don't know what, and I'll say this, I don't know what Tom
- 10:00Thibodeau is doing at the half. Maybe he's drinking with the
- 10:03players. Maybe he's just in another room
- 10:05trying to get a blowjob. Whatever he's trying to do, he's
- 10:08not doing the right thing with this team.
- 10:11And then they come back and they're a show of what they were
- 10:14in at the end of the second quarter.
- 10:16And they're you wonder if they're going to come out as a
- 10:19deer in the headlights, AKA Robert Sala, Bambi Sala.
- 10:22The problem right now really lies upon these halves.
- 10:28The Knicks have had problems coming back after the half and
- 10:32figuring out whoever they're playing, what their strengths
- 10:36are and how to beat their weaknesses.
- 10:39And what I believe the strength is right now with the Pacers is
- 10:45the fact that they can hit threes all over the basketball
- 10:48court. Every single one of these guys
- 10:50are hitting freeze against the Knicks, and the Knicks are not
- 10:53passing the ball. They're not moving the ball.
- 10:56It's become isolation basketball most of the time with Jaylen
- 10:59Bronson, when they score points, Karl Anthony Towns and with his
- 11:0338 to 30 to 80 foot jumpers, and this team eventually can hit
- 11:09three to four shots and then this team's hit.
- 11:12The Indiana Pacers are going going on runs where they're
- 11:14hitting four to five shots in a row.
- 11:16It it to me, the Knicks have to figure out what they need to do
- 11:21to be consistent. And what I think they need to do
- 11:24is get to the hole and draw fouls.
- 11:27Make the Pacers fight for every single point, every single shot,
- 11:33every single layup. You cannot give them open lanes,
- 11:37open shots and give them an opportunity to have confidence.
- 11:42And when you're in New York and when the fans are roaring and
- 11:46screaming and crying, you want the fans to be excited.
- 11:51You want the fans to get in the Pacers heads.
- 11:55But over the last couple of times we've seen not only the
- 11:59Pacers teams like Detroit or even sometimes Boston, they come
- 12:05to the Garden and the Knicks, just, I, I don't know where the
- 12:08Knicks are. They're in La La Land, they're
- 12:10in the Wizard of Oz, they're hanging out with Toto there.
- 12:14There's just, there's no yellow brick road for them.
- 12:16And I just, I, I don't get it anymore.
- 12:19And Jalen Bronson, Bronson, you got to wake up, man.
- 12:23You got to pass the ball, share the ball.
- 12:26You got so many players. OG Nanobi needs to get more
- 12:30consistent. You need to get some kind of
- 12:32tempo, get him involved more in the game.
- 12:34Mikhail Bridges has completely disappeared in this series where
- 12:38he was so very important to get to Boston.
- 12:40He's disappeared in this series and where is this rotation?
- 12:44I don't want to see campaign anymore.
- 12:47I want to see these guys rotated, right?
- 12:49Josh Hart, stop making the dumb, stupid mistakes that you make
- 12:54during the GameStop, throwing the ball to the sidelines or
- 12:57trying to do some kind of fancy pass to Jalen Bronson.
- 13:01It doesn't work. It hasn't worked.
- 13:04Play defense and play old school basketball.
- 13:09If you do that against the Indiana Pacers, then you're
- 13:12going to beat them. Rick Carlisle knows, and I don't
- 13:15care what anybody says, they have a tremendous team.
- 13:18They have from 1 to 15 or 1 to 12 how many players they play.
- 13:23They've played in this series. They're really good from 1:00 to
- 13:2612:00. The problem with the Pacers is
- 13:29if you can take Tyrese Halliburton out of the game and
- 13:33make him make one or even 2 passes and make them force the
- 13:38ball in places they're uncomfortable playing, the
- 13:42Knicks are going to get a chance to go on these runs.
- 13:45The Knicks are going to get a chance to have a 10 or 12 point
- 13:49lead in a game that we haven't seen so far in this series.
- 13:53And I, I just I, I'm, I quote myself really all the time
- 13:58watching this team because This is why I don't watch the regular
- 14:00season for the NBA. The one of the main reasons why
- 14:04I don't watch the regular season is during the regular season,
- 14:07you don't see this type of game plan.
- 14:10And the Pacers played completely different against the Knicks in
- 14:14the regular season. And then Rick Carlisle, who's
- 14:17such a smart coach. He understands the game of
- 14:20basketball. He understands well if the
- 14:23Knicks are doing this early in the game, they that what Rick
- 14:27Carlisle does in the second-half is he takes that part of the
- 14:31game out and makes the Knicks try to transition and play
- 14:35another way and they can't. And that is the difference in
- 14:39this series. It has nothing to do with
- 14:40talent. It has nothing to do with the
- 14:43Knicks not be able to compete against a more athletic team.
- 14:46To me, the Knicks are the most more talented team.
- 14:49They have the better five. They have the better rebounders,
- 14:52they have the better big men. The problem right now is
- 14:56coaching and making the right calls and the right play calling
- 15:01in in the persistent type of fashion that the Pacers have
- 15:05done throughout this series and the Knicks haven't.
- 15:07Yeah, you're talking about fouls, which I think that it's
- 15:09something that the Pacers want to play with a faster paced
- 15:12offense where they were fourth in the regular season in terms
- 15:15of the possession metrics per per second in pace.
- 15:18They were the 7th overall offense and those kinds of fouls
- 15:21slow them down if they're Knicks are drawing fouls.
- 15:23Now, the Knicks are doing better, better I should say, not
- 15:25great, but better at hitting free throws, especially in that
- 15:28first half of Game 4. But again, they still haven't
- 15:31done it enough on a consistent basis.
- 15:32They're still taking some reckless shots.
- 15:34You mention OG and Anobi. I think his offensive game
- 15:36planning and his types of shots that he's taking have not been
- 15:39very good. Karl Anthony Towns has been too
- 15:41streaky for a guy that's a second option on a team like
- 15:44that and had a lot of great traits for a big man shooting
- 15:47the ball and scoring the ball the way he does.
- 15:50And then there's the then there's the minutes as well.
- 15:52We talked about finally they expanded the lineup where Delon
- 15:55Wright and and Landry Shamon were playing finally.
- 15:57But they were still giving Josh Hart drastic minutes for a bench
- 16:00player. And I think it hurt him.
- 16:01Really, it hurt him on the defensive side of the ball
- 16:04against those wings late in the game.
- 16:06TJ McConnell was hitting some shot in the 3rd and it was great
- 16:08off the bench and I still think he's getting worn down as a
- 16:11result. I think what they have to
- 16:12consider doing is some rotations of like two or three guys off at
- 16:16a time where you saw the Pacers do that a lot.
- 16:18If Turner's out of the game, Siak comes in and vice versa
- 16:21when they're have a good lead. And I think that's something the
- 16:24Knicks have to try as well because the Knicks, they don't
- 16:26want to have to play with the pace if they don't have to.
- 16:28But if you have to play and attract me, your guys are going
- 16:30to get worn down and the Pacers are going to keep doing that to
- 16:32you. And they're not changing their
- 16:33style as long as they keep scoring the way they're doing.
- 16:35They scored 130 points with some of the starters in single
- 16:40digits. That says a lot when it comes to
- 16:43like, obviously Halliburton at the historic game.
- 16:45But it says a lot with the scoring prowess off the bench
- 16:47that they do have. And the Knicks have some of
- 16:49that, but they don't have enough of it compared to what the
- 16:51Pacers are doing. So the Knicks have to get it
- 16:53done a lot with the starters and a lot with getting them a
- 16:56Falcons I. Also believe that the Pacers are
- 16:59playing at a pace that the Knicks can't keep up with, and
- 17:02this. Is the fastest.
- 17:03This is pace Tom Thibodeau. Team and and Hal Burton is a guy
- 17:06that has really picking up the pace in the second-half of the
- 17:09game. If you watch him in the first
- 17:11half, he's much faster in the second-half and he likes to if
- 17:15he's not hot or he's not playing well offensively, he moves the
- 17:19ball, something that Jalen Brunson has not done in the
- 17:21series. He's using the other players.
- 17:23If he knows Naismith is playing better, he's hitting his shots,
- 17:27he's handing the ball off to him.
- 17:28If guys like that are giving them secondary scoring and Hal
- 17:33Burton doesn't have to worry about his shot, all he has to do
- 17:35is make sure that he's rebounding, defending the
- 17:38position that he needs to fend and he can get all the other
- 17:40guys involved. Well, then the Knicks are going
- 17:43to have problems keeping in these kind of games because OG
- 17:47Anobe has not been consistent. Mikhail Bridges has not been
- 17:51consistent. Even Jalen Brunson in certain
- 17:54parts of the game has not been consistent.
- 17:57And by the way, why are these guys like Karl Anthony Towns in
- 18:01the first quarter getting into foul trouble?
- 18:03Why is Josh Hart when he comes in early in the first quarter,
- 18:08getting into foul trouble? These guys need to stay out of
- 18:12foul trouble if they expect to be important pieces to this team
- 18:18moving forward into the second-half, especially in the
- 18:21fourth quarter where they're going to need these guys,
- 18:23especially when they need them on the boards.
- 18:25Josh Hart is one of the better board guys for the New York
- 18:28Knicks. Mitchell Robertson is so very
- 18:30important to the boards. Karl Anthony Towns, who hasn't
- 18:33been very good in this series as far as maybe one or two games,
- 18:37hasn't been good on the boards. They need more of these kind of
- 18:41rotational players to help them get over the top.
- 18:45Win game #5 and then worry about Game 6 on Saturday.
- 18:49Yeah, and also you look at the Wings matchup of the the Knicks
- 18:51have and they should not be getting out matches badly as
- 18:55they have. And you talk about Bridges and
- 18:56an Anobis just being streaky offensively.
- 18:58Hart's been streaky offensively too.
- 19:00I think he only had single digits in the last game too,
- 19:02despite playing well in other areas.
- 19:04And that's the thing that the pace that that's the thing they
- 19:06out match with the Celtics when the Celtics have all this great
- 19:08wing depth, both with the starters before Tatum got hurt
- 19:11and off the bench. The Pacers are not supposed to
- 19:13have that on paper. And yet they're finding ways to
- 19:15mismatch the Knicks when it comes to their pace of the the
- 19:18play and the ball movement. How does this not bother you
- 19:21when when you watch the Knicks completely dominate the Celtics
- 19:25in the second-half down by 20 points?
- 19:27They did it one time against the Indiana Pacers in this series,
- 19:31and the Pacers are nowhere close to the talent the Celtics are.
- 19:35And Tatum practically played the whole series except what the
- 19:39final game I've. Heard in Game 4.
- 19:41So he played practically that whole series.
- 19:43The Knicks beat him what, in five games, six games, six
- 19:47games. So he played the majority of the
- 19:50games. And still they outplayed the
- 19:53champion Boston Celtics. And then you're playing the
- 19:55Pacers, who are definitely less of a team than the Boston
- 19:59Celtics, and they can't find a way to get an early lead.
- 20:02They can't find a way to keep up with the team that's young,
- 20:06fast, athletic, talented, but nowhere close to the talent the
- 20:11New York Knicks have in their starting 5.
- 20:13Yeah, I I wanted to mention before before job on fish, you
- 20:15go. I I heard your conversation with
- 20:17Keith in the in the car. He didn't let me speak.
- 20:20Yeah, he was. He didn't let me speak.
- 20:21He was. Starting to make the impression
- 20:23the Pacers have the better like. He's out of its damn mind.
- 20:25The Knicks have 5, no worse than five of the best eight players
- 20:28in the series. You can argue 7 nevertheless.
- 20:30They have 4 of probably the top 15 defensive players in all of
- 20:34the league, but they're not playing defense.
- 20:36That's the other thing I was getting at too.
- 20:37They have a good defense and a great defense on paper in
- 20:40certain areas compared to the Pacers.
- 20:42That's the problem is they're letting their key players
- 20:44getting. Could you imagine?
- 20:46And guys, could you imagine if the Knicks played Mitchell
- 20:49Robertson, Josh Hart, Mikhail Bridges and OG and Anobi and add
- 20:54Jalen Bronson and they play at the top of their game
- 20:57defensively, how much they can shut down the Pacers?
- 21:00This defense could absolutely shut down any offense in the
- 21:04league and they have a problem. What you saw in the second-half,
- 21:07like on on that clip that you showed, like how they attacked
- 21:10the ball, there was a swarm. There's like a bunch like where
- 21:12they attack the basketball. Granted, they weren't as in much
- 21:16foul trouble, but as we talked about with what Tibbs is doing,
- 21:18OK, so you you put Mitch Rabb as a starter and now he's only
- 21:23going to play 18 minutes, but then Josh Hart's going to play
- 21:2535. Like where is there any balance
- 21:28in what he's doing? And I don't I don't get the foul
- 21:31trouble. I don't understand.
- 21:33And I touched on this earlier, it's like, and they're dumb
- 21:36fouls too. It's being lazy, like getting
- 21:38pissed off at key. Players too.
- 21:39I think that's the big difference.
- 21:40The Pacers key players outside of Halliburton, I think one game
- 21:43did not get into drastic foul trouble.
- 21:46And they haven't because they've played help defense.
- 21:50They know what to do. They don't make stupid fouls.
- 21:53Why we're sitting in this conversation right now, but I
- 21:55loved when you guys were bringing this up and talking
- 21:57about four of the top 15 defensive players.
- 22:00But look at the type of defense they're playing now because
- 22:02they're forced to because of foul trouble.
- 22:04But look at that when they're swarming the ball and getting
- 22:06hands up in Tatum and Brown's face and they didn't have a
- 22:09chance. And that's why they're able to
- 22:10do that twice in that series because their defensive, I
- 22:14guess, plan or however you want to call it, was completely
- 22:17different than what it is because they can't really be as
- 22:20aggressive because they've been in foul trouble early where they
- 22:23where they get behind and don't have the opportunity where that
- 22:26better Celtics team could pull away, but they still had a
- 22:29chance to play aggressive defense.
- 22:31Where here, you know, you're kind of like if a guy beat you,
- 22:34you kind of got to let him go because are you going to get
- 22:36your third or fourth foul before the second-half?
- 22:39So I just I and it's just confusing on how he's playing
- 22:42minutes and whatever. Like he brought Delon Wright but
- 22:45he only played 9 minutes. So it's just.
- 22:46And he played well. You brought, you brought.
- 22:49So why? Do you only play 9 minutes then?
- 22:51You brought the Celtics up, but I to me there's a huge
- 22:55difference from Joe Missoula to Rick Carlisle.
- 22:58Missoula's a good coach. He comes from obviously Reds
- 23:01type of coaching. He's been over there training
- 23:04before he became an assistant coach with the Celtics.
- 23:07He was he was over there going to the camps of Red Airbach.
- 23:11So he he knows a little bit about how to coach and the way
- 23:14the Celtics pride of coaching has been with the organization
- 23:18for a very, very long time. Doc Rivers was not an ex Celtic,
- 23:22but he played a different style of defense with with Kevin
- 23:25Garnett and Paul Pierce and Rondo and Ray Allen.
- 23:29All four are great defenders. You you look at right now, Rick
- 23:33Carlisle, Rick Carlisle is a defensive minded coach who
- 23:37played over there with Dallas, with Dirk Nowitzki, was there
- 23:39with Dirk Nowitzki racing kid and those type of players and
- 23:43transition his style of defense to an offensive style with Dirk
- 23:47Nowitzki and kind of added his little piece of defense to them.
- 23:51When he came back to Indiana, remember he was there with
- 23:54Indiana for a couple of years before he took that Dallas
- 23:57Mavericks job. He came back to Indiana, He got
- 24:00a very young athletic team. When they made that trade for
- 24:03Tyrese Halliburton, it changed everything for the Indiana
- 24:06Pacers because you have a long, lengthy point guard that can to
- 24:11defend multiple positions. He's not a great defender, but
- 24:14he's not a bad one because he's long and he can rebound the
- 24:17ball. You're getting a guy that's a
- 24:19point guard that is as big as really a three and you have him
- 24:24playing against smaller point guards and he's just as athletic
- 24:27as the smaller point guards. To me, that's a complete
- 24:30mismatch and you're watching it in this series.
- 24:32He is creating more mismatches because of Tom Thibodeau's way
- 24:37of defense, where he is playing a zone defense and every single
- 24:41time one guy gets picked at the top of the key, another smaller
- 24:45guy is defending a more athletic Tyrese Halberton or a Naismith
- 24:49who's having opening success at the three-point line.
- 24:53Well, I wouldn't call it his own defense.
- 24:55It's a switching man defense. It's which is kind of like we
- 24:59call it in football, like pattern zones that that's.
- 25:02It's his own defense. It's like it's his own.
- 25:04Defense it's, it's, it's sort of a hybrid, right?
- 25:07Because your, your job is to switch off whenever there's an
- 25:11obstacle in your way, which is more man, but it means that
- 25:14whoever's switching on to you is a different person and but
- 25:17you're not covering 1 area. So I would say it's more a man
- 25:21defense than his own defense. But the idea of anyone is
- 25:24guarding anyone is certainly the thing that a lot of teams have
- 25:28switched to starting with, you know, back in the day, Celtics,
- 25:32when Thibodeau was with Doc, right?
- 25:34This is not a new idea of Thibodeau's to play like this.
- 25:38And it was kind of revolutionary 1517 years ago.
- 25:43But as we know, things adapt, right?
- 25:46And I think the problem is I was just thinking about this and I
- 25:50was thinking about those old Knicks teams that weren't as
- 25:52talented, because you're saying the Knicks are more talented
- 25:54than the Pacers. And I agree, but but why were
- 25:57the old Knicks teams competitive with mellow?
- 25:59And it wasn't because of mellow, because of, I think it was
- 26:04because of Mike D'antoni's offense.
- 26:06And the offense was get the ball up as fast as you can.
- 26:09Well, Tyrese Halliburton, my God, D'Antoni, eat your heart
- 26:13out. That guy gets into the offense
- 26:16faster than anyone I've ever seen.
- 26:18Maybe it's since Steve Nash. This is absolutely insane what
- 26:22he did in that game to have a 30 point triple double with 0
- 26:26turnovers. It's one of the greatest
- 26:28statistical outputs in playoff history.
- 26:30It really is. You have to consider it that.
- 26:32It's the only one ever to happen.
- 26:35It's unbelievable. And he just kept finding guys
- 26:38because think about what's going on.
- 26:39The Knicks are playing different lineups so that not everyone
- 26:42knows exactly who's with each other on defense because of
- 26:45that. And they're into their offense
- 26:46so fast. If you're not completely set and
- 26:49running back athletically, like Karl Anthony, Towns does not
- 26:53really like to do that. Brunson sometimes, you know,
- 26:55gets a little distracted thinking about other stuff.
- 26:57I guess. I don't know what his excuses
- 26:59are at times defensively, kind of like just seems like he has
- 27:03like a mental lapse every once in a while.
- 27:05And Hart has been getting back cut on like a son of like, like,
- 27:08I've never seen it. And I think it's because they're
- 27:10just moving too fast for this defense to set up the way they
- 27:13like to. And they're just getting
- 27:15schooled by it. And Carlisle knows it.
- 27:17And if you can get Halliburton to play like that, they're not
- 27:21winning tonight. But that's the that's the point
- 27:23to fish earlier that I think Speedy and Arrow both brought
- 27:26up. When you're playing him that
- 27:27many minutes now, it affects because he's making stupid
- 27:30passes. I think he's led the last three
- 27:32of four games in turnovers. And so if you're, if you're
- 27:36doing that now you're getting his legs tired and you're trying
- 27:38to do this for AI think it just it hurts in so many different
- 27:41ways. And I, I think you guys are all
- 27:42right when it. Does that and I I wouldn't call
- 27:45it a man style because if it was man on man and and if you're
- 27:48playing man defense you. But then you're fighting through
- 27:51screens. Yeah, but it's I'm not telling
- 27:53you it's they would consider basketball coaches, call it man
- 27:55defense. I call it zone because they're
- 27:57zoning, they're they're defending certain positions.
- 27:59You have two guys up on the top of the key usually.
- 28:01Means you have an area you know. Well, they do.
- 28:04I mean, soon as they get picked off that area, they're sitting
- 28:07in that area because they're going wherever the other guy is
- 28:09going when they're shifting from the pick, so.
- 28:11It's but they're on the ball. They're not in a zone like a 2.
- 28:15Three, like if someone sets a screen, like the guy who's on
- 28:18the Screener is now going to be up at the perimeter, it doesn't
- 28:21mean matter if the guy comes from the perimeter or comes down
- 28:23in the block. It's just a man scheme.
- 28:25So I, I disagree with you on that.
- 28:26It's not a real big difference though.
- 28:28It's just, it's what you're saying is you want guys to fight
- 28:31over screens like Nesmith does against Brunson, because that's
- 28:36how a man plays man defense. When I coached like little kids,
- 28:40I said you're not switching because all their AAU coaches
- 28:43want them to switch because they don't really want to focus on
- 28:46defense about offense at that age.
- 28:48And you're like, that's fine. But Fish, think about this.
- 28:50How many times has Carly Towns got a hip check because they've
- 28:54tried to fight through the screen and fight over the screen
- 28:56and then you get some cheap fouls?
- 28:58So like, at the same time, you have to like, what are we doing?
- 29:03It's like we're caught in between two different
- 29:04philosophies at times. And I think Tibbs gets very
- 29:09frustrated with Towns because he doesn't want him fighting over
- 29:13the screen. He wants him to just accept the
- 29:16smaller player to guard and just like, have that disadvantage for
- 29:20a second. But Towns is a problem because
- 29:23he just is a bad defensive player.
- 29:26And when you have one guy and you have a guy like Halliburton
- 29:28operating at the pace that he's operating that with like a
- 29:32flawless, you know, turnover free game, it's very, there's
- 29:36like no margin for. Error, but they're giving I.
- 29:38Have 3 words written down, Errol, with this, slow it down.
- 29:43They can't. The Knicks, the Knicks have to
- 29:46turn this into a deliberate game.
- 29:48They need to get into their offense.
- 29:50That's not going to play like Carmelo Anthony.
- 29:52No, no, play like Carmelo Anthony used to where you're
- 29:54just running the shot clock down.
- 29:56You're going to get into ISO sometimes, but you'll also want
- 29:59to play late in the shot clock. That's fine because now you get
- 30:04a rebound that isn't coming. What going to lead into a fast
- 30:07break and they can't allow this team to be on the fast break
- 30:11that they're absolutely killing them when they can't set up on
- 30:14defense. They're getting murdered on the
- 30:16fast break and I really want to see them slow.
- 30:18I disagree. I don't think they're going to
- 30:20be able to slow it down. What they're going to need to
- 30:22do, and I think OG and a nobody's going to have to do it.
- 30:24Mckelbridge is going to have to do it is fight through screens
- 30:27and stop with this this garbage. Well, we'll switch off.
- 30:30We'll do this, we'll do that off the pick.
- 30:32They have to fight through screens.
- 30:34You if you're taking Tyrese Halliburton, if OG is is
- 30:37obviously obviously going to be committed to Tyrese Halliburton
- 30:41throughout the game, then he defends Tyrese Halbern.
- 30:44If if Mikkel Bridges is is going to defend against I don't know
- 30:48what Naismith or any one of these guys.
- 30:51They're going to have to fight through the the the picks and
- 30:55get to their guy. To me, that's a going to be a
- 30:57big problem throughout the rest of the series.
- 31:00If they can get out of this this game, they're going to have to
- 31:03be able to be able to pace themselves in Indiana.
- 31:06The Indiana Pacers are very hard to beat at home.
- 31:09The Knicks only have one win in there in the Pacers existence.
- 31:12Just think about it for the all the times the Knicks have played
- 31:15the Pacers in playoff history, the Knicks have one win against
- 31:19them. One.
- 31:21And you know, when that was, it was when this, this series
- 31:25happened when the Knicks beat them in the first game of of the
- 31:29series. So you have to, I mean, the
- 31:31first game of the Indian in, in, in the game three-game 3.
- 31:35But it's it's frustrating to me. And I, I'm, I'm so twisted
- 31:39because you think they the point of it is trying to slow the base
- 31:42down. They're not going to slow a fast
- 31:44young team. What they need to do is stop
- 31:46playing their game. That's what they need to stop
- 31:49doing. Stop chucking up threes, stop
- 31:52making mistakes, be mistake free and when you get to the free
- 31:56throw line, hit your free throws in the important parts of the
- 31:59game. If they're going to play Haka
- 32:00Mitch in the fourth quarter, you got to make sure that you're
- 32:03going to have a 5 or 6 point lead if Mitchell Robertson is
- 32:07going to be out there and if he's not, you're going to have
- 32:09to get more from Karl Anthony Towns.
- 32:11So you got to set Karl Anthony Towns or tell Karl Anthony Towns
- 32:15to set his feet under that hoop and make sure that if there's a
- 32:18rebound, you will do anything to grab that rebound.
- 32:22So I it's been a big problem. I don't think there's any hustle
- 32:25with some of these guys. And you can see it.
- 32:27Jalen Bronson, when he gets obviously frustrated, you see
- 32:30the problems that he has. He's pulling on jerseys, he's
- 32:33fouling bad, he's making bad fouls.
- 32:36You want to see more more. How can I say this just?
- 32:40Disciplined. No, I wouldn't even say
- 32:42discipline. I just think it's.
- 32:43Grit, you're saying, right? I wouldn't even say.
- 32:46I've been saying grit, but I don't even think it's grit.
- 32:49I just think, you know, play at your style, like it, play your
- 32:52momentum of the game. I mean, if you're going to play
- 32:55ice. You're saying like they're
- 32:57baiting them into playing. Their game, their game.
- 33:01So I agree when I say slow it down.
- 33:02Like they can't play a game where the score is in 1:30 to
- 33:051:20. They can't play in the one 20s
- 33:07and win against this team the way that they want to.
- 33:10They've got to play in the one hundreds and one 10s.
- 33:12If they're playing in those numbers, I like the Knicks
- 33:15chances. That said, with everything, I'd
- 33:17be shocked if they don't win this game kind of going away.
- 33:19Stop giving them. Stop jinxing them.
- 33:21I don't want to hear that. Oh, I'm shocked.
- 33:23I'd be shocked. I don't believe in the jinx.
- 33:25But yeah, yeah, I I that's what happens with that problem.
- 33:29The problem with Knick fans, and I'll say this again, Nick, fans
- 33:32think, Oh well, this is our game to win.
- 33:34And then if the Knicks win, it's the next game.
- 33:37This is our game to win. I don't want to hear that.
- 33:39Go out and play your game. Go out and play.
- 33:41The Knicks win and then all the pressures on Halliburton.
- 33:44Go play your game. Go play your game.
- 33:48Don't play Indiana's game and don't make and make Rick
- 33:52Carlisle call timeouts. Make him go call a timeout in in
- 33:56the early second quarter where he's yelling at his players
- 33:59because they're not switching off or they're not pacing
- 34:02themselves and they're letting the Knicks get open jump shots
- 34:05and and open 3 pointers. The problem with the Knicks in
- 34:08this series is they're not using every single player on the
- 34:11court. They're playing ISO basketball.
- 34:14You have Karl Anthony talents coming down and sometimes you
- 34:16get one or two passes. Whoever's bringing the ball up
- 34:19and then you giving it to Brunson, you give it to
- 34:21everybody knows what the ball is going to.
- 34:23The way you beat the Pacers is you put the ball in places the
- 34:27Pacers are not expecting it to go.
- 34:30That's the way. That's the way to beat the
- 34:32Pacers. They're expecting Jaylen Bronson
- 34:35to score 35 points, will get OG and Mikkel Bridges involved in
- 34:38the game and maybe Josh Hart off the bench to give you 15, seven
- 34:42and eight and you're going to win the game.
- 34:44You need, to me, you need to redefine what you've been in
- 34:48this series and make sure you're playing with the lead throughout
- 34:51this game if you expect to win it.
- 34:54The Thunder dominated the Timberwolves in game number 5124
- 34:58to 94 to advance to their first NBA Finals since 2012.
- 35:04The Thunder held the Timberwolves to just 9 points in
- 35:07the first quarter and 32 points in the first half.
- 35:11Anthony Edwards again had just 19 points, shot 7 for 18 and had
- 35:17a -. 29 rating. Shy had another big game with 34
- 35:22points and eight assists. Shy had over 30 points and eight
- 35:25assists. In all four of the Thunders wins
- 35:28in this series, the Thunder, who won 68 games during the regular
- 35:33season, become the winniest team to advance to an NBA Finals
- 35:37since the 2015 2016 Warriors. Among those six teams who have
- 35:44advanced with the that high of a win total, every team besides
- 35:49the Warriors team has won an NBA title.
- 35:52I don't know why you put that there, because who cares?
- 35:54The fact is I don't. I don't look at what players and
- 35:57teams have done in the past. That doesn't matter to me.
- 36:00I don't care of the, you know, what kind of player Anthony
- 36:04Edwards was in this series and how much he cried after the
- 36:07games when he didn't show up. Here's the facts.
- 36:10Shia Alexander outplayed Anthony Edwards and that's why the OK C
- 36:16Thunder is moving on to the finals.
- 36:18That's the facts. Anthony Edwards that speaks so
- 36:21highly of himself or doesn't want to take responsibility or
- 36:25doesn't want to be the face of United States basketball or
- 36:29thinks that he is the truth when he's not, or has said things
- 36:33where he has put his team and his organization in positions
- 36:39where you just shake your head. Anthony Edwards needs to take a
- 36:44couple of weeks off from the NBA.
- 36:46You get away from the video games, go on vacation and wake
- 36:50the hell up. Wake the hell up.
- 36:52Because if you're going to continuously keep doing this
- 36:56over and over and over again, when you go to the playoffs and
- 36:59want to point fingers and you don't want to take
- 37:01responsibility or just can't handle the pressure, well, then
- 37:06you either are going to be another Kevin Durant or you're
- 37:09going to be another Karl Malone or even Charles Barkley.
- 37:13Who can't win on his own? It has to go somewhere else.
- 37:16By the way, I mentioned quite a few players that never won.
- 37:19Charles Barkley went to Phoenix, played with Johnson, never won,
- 37:23brought him to the Finals, won an MVP.
- 37:25Who did he have to face? He had to face Michael Jordan.
- 37:27Good luck on that. And and we could go on and on
- 37:30and on with players that were so very good.
- 37:33And then they go on to another team in another organization,
- 37:36either come, you know, fall short or they win a championship
- 37:41and they win a championship where he is not the leader, he
- 37:45is not the best player or he's not considered the best player
- 37:48even though he is. I, I just think that Anthony
- 37:51Edwards has been a really big problem for the Timberwolves
- 37:54growth. If you look at the players that
- 37:56they have there. I got to give Julius Randle a
- 37:58lot of credit. I, I can't really take shots at
- 38:01him this year. He's going to make himself a lot
- 38:03of money in the offseason. He has a free agent.
- 38:05I could see him going to the Lakers.
- 38:07Maybe now the Lakers don't have the money.
- 38:09But if LeBron James decides, hey, I'm making, I'm going to
- 38:13make $53 million this year. Maybe I'll take a pay cut or
- 38:16I'll, you know, we'll figure out something to get Julius Randall
- 38:19here. Remember, LeBron James is the
- 38:21reason why actually Kobe Bryant was the reason why Julius
- 38:26Randall transition his game. Anybody that knows Kobe Bryant,
- 38:30when Julius Randall was drafted by the Lakers, Kobe Bryant was
- 38:34there. And Kobe Bryant said that Julius
- 38:37Randall's toughness is going to help him grow as an NBA
- 38:40superstar. It didn't work with the Lakers
- 38:43and it didn't work with the Pelicans.
- 38:46But when he went to the New York Knicks the first year, he
- 38:49figured it out and then he got that extension and then it
- 38:52didn't work. He couldn't win the big game in
- 38:54the playoffs. He was the bricklayer.
- 38:56No Nick fan really like Julius Randle because he always thought
- 39:00that he was bigger than the team.
- 39:01Well, he went to another team after that where he was traded
- 39:06to a team that has a player just like him.
- 39:09And I think now you see Julius Randle became more of a team
- 39:13player and understood his game and what how his game fit with
- 39:18the Timberwolves and made it work in the playoffs.
- 39:21It didn't work all those years with the Knicks.
- 39:24And that's why you got to give Julius Randall a lot of credit
- 39:26because of the hard work and the dedication he put, you know, in
- 39:30the playoffs and throughout the playoffs.
- 39:33And Shia Alexander, we all know what he is.
- 39:35He's 26 years old. The guy is is the MVP is his.
- 39:39He won his first MVP. He's got a bright smile.
- 39:43He just had his first kid recently, he's married and he's
- 39:48finally getting his recognition now.
- 39:51He has always been a great player in the NBA.
- 39:53He was a leader of Team Canada. But what he was missing was
- 39:57getting that opportunity to prove himself on center stage in
- 40:03front of millions and millions of people.
- 40:06And now he's got his chance. He's going to be playing in the
- 40:09NBA Finals. With this young talented OKC
- 40:13Thunder team that has a ton of first round talent coming to
- 40:16them in the next few years, they got a tremendous amount of
- 40:19talent coming off their bench first round draft picks.
- 40:22And they just, they, they have something that we haven't seen a
- 40:27young team have in a very, very long time.
- 40:30Dedication to playing two-dimensional basketball and
- 40:33doing it so well on both sides of the ball.
- 40:36And nobody is bigger than the team.
- 40:39Even Shy Alexander after the game and they interviewed him
- 40:43and he was the MVP of the Western Conference finals.
- 40:47He came out and after he won and he got that trophy, he said my
- 40:51team is what made me become the player that I became.
- 40:57I wasn't the player I was before I came to the NBA and I
- 41:02transitioned as a team player. I built my opportunities as a
- 41:07player to become who I am today. And it wouldn't be because it's
- 41:10it's because of my coaching staff.
- 41:12It's because of the players that I play around and we are a
- 41:15family. Do you ever hear Anthony Edwards
- 41:17say that? Did you ever hear Anthony
- 41:20Edwards say, hey, my family, this is this?
- 41:22It's not that. No, you got a chance to watch
- 41:25him on TikTok dancing with his sister in his living room.
- 41:29I don't know what the hell he's doing.
- 41:30I wearing these like uggs slippers and and looking like a
- 41:34fool. OK, you never see him, you know,
- 41:37enjoy himself on a basketball court unless he scores 40 and
- 41:41he's and his team is winning. And that's why Luka Dodgick and
- 41:45Kyrie Irving beat him in the Western Conference finals last
- 41:49year. As bad as they did in the in the
- 41:51Western Conference. I don't think the Timberwolves
- 41:53are ever going to get over the hump.
- 41:55They're never going to get over the hump because I don't think
- 41:58Anthony Edwards is going to take him there.
- 42:00And maybe Alex Rodriguez is going to figure that out.
- 42:02Maybe he won't. But I the kind of person Alex
- 42:05Rodriguez is, you know, Alex in the offseason is going to be
- 42:09sitting down and talking to a guy like Anthony Edwards and
- 42:12telling him like, like you're the leader.
- 42:14You're you got to go out there. You got to be you got to show
- 42:16yourself as a leader and don't go over there and point your
- 42:19fingers at people. I don't think, and I'll say this
- 42:21again, as much as people don't like Alex Rodriguez, and a lot
- 42:26of people don't, have you ever heard any of his teammates
- 42:30besides Derek Jeter? OK.
- 42:32And that that not in front of the the press, but you've heard
- 42:36it through stories and books that have been written.
- 42:39Have you ever heard guys like Robertson Canal, Jabba
- 42:43Chamberlain, Melchi Cabrera, anybody come out and say that
- 42:48Alex Rodriguez wasn't a good teammate, wasn't a good leader,
- 42:52wasn't a person that you can look up to and go to his locker
- 42:55room, the locker and talk to him after the game and give him some
- 42:58tips? Every single, by the way, when
- 43:00Sanchez, when Gary Sanchez was not playing well with the
- 43:04Yankees, who did he go and talk to during the All Star break?
- 43:10Who did he talk to? He went to sit down with Alex
- 43:12Rodriguez and Jlo. Does anybody remember that?
- 43:15Why would Gary Sanchez, who by the way, Alex Rodriguez was not
- 43:19a part of the organization, he was retired.
- 43:21Why would Gary Sanchez go to sit down with Alex Rodriguez?
- 43:25Because he respected him and Alex Rodriguez understands how
- 43:28to be great and how to push the right buttons.
- 43:32Maybe he does that with Anthony Edwards.
- 43:34But for right now, I don't know if anybody is excited in the
- 43:38offseason, who do they have to trade?
- 43:40They gave up a lot to get what's his name in the big man?
- 43:44Gobert They gave up. Four first round.
- 43:46Four first round draft picks, they set their team back.
- 43:49They thought, hey, Gobert, Karl Anthony Towns and a guy like
- 43:54Anthony Edwards, you're going to be an outstanding team.
- 43:57And by the way, if you think about it, Karl Anthony Towns is
- 44:00playing with the Knicks. Gobert is just like Mitchell
- 44:03Robertson, is he not? And Carl Anthony Towns is
- 44:06playing probably. And Jalen Brunson is kind of
- 44:09like Anthony Edwards. He's an offensive player and not
- 44:12as good a defensive player as Anthony Edwards.
- 44:14But nevertheless, Anthony Edwards, Anthony Edwards didn't
- 44:17play stick of defense in that series either.
- 44:20So I I mean, I'm going, I'm rambling because I just it's not
- 44:25the fact I'm not giving a lot of people saying you're not giving
- 44:27OKCA lot of credit. Maybe so.
- 44:31I think OK C is a very talented team and everybody expects OK C
- 44:35to be there probably for the next five years in the the
- 44:38Western Conference Finals. They're that talented.
- 44:41They have a tremendous amount of money that they can spend in the
- 44:43offseason if they want Giannis and they fall short against the
- 44:46Knicks or the Pacers. If that ever happens, they could
- 44:49go after Giannis, enter the enter the Coupa, whatever his
- 44:52name. Hey, look at that.
- 44:54They could go after whoever they want because they got the money
- 44:57to go out there and spend it because they all these guys are
- 45:01under their rookie contract. Practically all of them except
- 45:03Shy and and maybe Jalen. I think Jalen Williams paid and
- 45:08that was and that was it. That's it.
- 45:10Even the veterans Hartenstein got AI guess a semi decent deal
- 45:13but even his. Deal is not sad.
- 45:14I mean, it's it to me. This is going to be a team
- 45:16that's going to be very good for many, many years.
- 45:18I didn't think this was their year.
- 45:19I thought next year and, and moving forward, I think it was
- 45:22going to be at least another year, but I was he's wrong.
- 45:25And I, I'll, I'll give Keith a lot of credit.
- 45:27He's at OK C going to the finals and winning the championship.
- 45:30So maybe he's right. Maybe OK C this will be their
- 45:33first championship. But it, it's a pretty
- 45:36unbelievable story. And, and to me, it's, it's not
- 45:40the fact that OK C won and they're moving on because a lot
- 45:43of people would probably a lot of the experts would have said
- 45:45that OK C, even though I thought the Timberwolves were going to
- 45:48win because they've had the experience.
- 45:50What really stood out is the no show of Anthony Edwards in this
- 45:54series. There was no show.
- 45:56He had one good game in this whole series.
- 46:00And that is the problem. It's not the fact that, and I'm
- 46:03again, OK C congratulations to the OK C Thunder.
- 46:07It's an amazing story. It's an amazing organization
- 46:10that has had a lot of great talent there for years and never
- 46:13got over the hump and never won a championship.
- 46:15You're going to see the OK C Thunder here a lot.
- 46:18This is not going to be the last.
- 46:20It won't be the first. Well, it is the first for a long
- 46:22time. It's, it hasn't been the first,
- 46:24but you know what I mean. It's since 2012.
- 46:26This won't be the last time you're going to see this team go
- 46:29out for another championship. This is the best team in a
- 46:31Western Conference. This will be the best team in
- 46:34the Western Conference for the next 5 to 6 years because of the
- 46:36young talent they have there. But it this story goes really
- 46:40deeper into the Timberwolves problem and Anthony Edwards.
- 46:44I'll start. I think it's the Minnesota
- 46:45problem. They haven't had anybody of the
- 46:47four major sports for 34 years, since 91.
- 46:51Right, the difference is Java like.
- 46:53I think there are some good like well run franchises when it
- 46:56comes to those sports. Seems like the Vikings I think
- 46:58have the 7th or 6th best winning percentage in NFL history.
- 47:00Like they're just bad in the playoffs.
- 47:02The other three teams have been kind of stuck in mediocrity and
- 47:04the Timberwolves have started to find a model for that kind of
- 47:06thing too. But you're they're still missing
- 47:07particular things. And Errol brought up the Rudy
- 47:09Gobert trade. At the time when they traded for
- 47:11Gobert, they were one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA
- 47:14and they kind of made a panic move at that point.
- 47:16And since then, since then, they haven't been able to build in
- 47:18other areas that they wanted to build in.
- 47:19They made some good trades, obviously bringing in Mike
- 47:21Conley for the veteran leadership.
- 47:23Obviously they drafted some good defensive role players off the
- 47:25bench, but their wing scoring has been horrible in this.
- 47:27They've been a top five defense all season long.
- 47:30And then they go into this series and they're letting the
- 47:32OKC Thunder score 130, a 120. Absolutely embarrassing.
- 47:37Absolutely embarrassing. And that goes for leadership.
- 47:40Anthony Edwards. You, you want to be the leader.
- 47:43You want to be the the IT factor, the truth.
- 47:46Well, guess what? Paul Pierce will tell you when
- 47:48the Celtics weren't winning and they couldn't get over the hump
- 47:51with Antoine Walker. Remember that What did what?
- 47:54Who who they're going to after the game.
- 47:56They weren't going to Antoine Walker.
- 47:57They were going to the young Paul Pierce because he called
- 48:00himself the truth. So guess what?
- 48:04If you want to be called the truth, you're going to take it
- 48:07and take the truth. And the truth is, you absolutely
- 48:10sucked in the playoffs. And that's the other thing too,
- 48:13like with a team that's much more defensive driven, you can't
- 48:15have those types of offensive liabilities.
- 48:17Shout out to Julius Randall, he actually was very consistent in
- 48:19that series. They didn't get anything else
- 48:21consistency wise from anyone else in that starting lineup or
- 48:24even off the bat. They don't really have great
- 48:25wing shooters. I think that's something that
- 48:27Minnesota's going to have to address in the offseason.
- 48:29That's where something like Alex Rodriguez could come in,
- 48:31something like Anthony Edwards could come in.
- 48:33If he wants to mature a little bit and get players to want to
- 48:35play with him, that's where you can get those missing pieces.
- 48:38You saw that the Celtics do that when they won their
- 48:40championship. They were missing a couple
- 48:41things and they brought it in. Obviously the size of Porzingis.
- 48:44They won a championship last year and the Timberwolves, they
- 48:46want to feel like they're right at that cost, but they're kind
- 48:48of stuck in that. I guess you would call it an in
- 48:51between. Like you want to think that they
- 48:52can make a leap, but they're still missing a lot of key
- 48:54things. And Anthony Edwards, it looked
- 48:56like for a while was going to be that next rising scorer type
- 49:00player. And then all of a sudden he's
- 49:01saying all these things and he's disappearing after.
- 49:03He's like being cocky with LeBron, being cocky with Kevin
- 49:05Durant. And all of a sudden they can't
- 49:07do it against a better team like this in OK C But at the same
- 49:09time, OK C is a model that you want to live by.
- 49:12My pinky is bigger than yours. I've always said the Celtics as
- 49:15the model, as one of the models you want to live by, and OK C is
- 49:17the other one. And OK, C is obviously taking
- 49:19the Paul George trade and turning and all those players
- 49:21and they don't have a defensive liability in that lineup too.
- 49:23And that's what. Makes Java takes it up the S.
- 49:25Very tough. I've always said the model too.
- 49:27In today's game, we're deviating away from big threes.
- 49:30Now we're going on two stars. Is that your cucumber or are you
- 49:33happy to see me? And good depth 3 through 8 and I
- 49:36think OKC has that plus the versatility.
- 49:38Any of a superstar player like Shy who's not selfish either.
- 49:41You're talking about his post game interview, Errol crediting
- 49:43his teammates. We saw that with Jokic.
- 49:44We've seen that with Giannis. Those are what these modern
- 49:46superstars are doing. Not like Anthony Edwards who's
- 49:50throwing blame on all of his team mates when he took thirteen
- 49:53shots and saying it was their fault he didn't do that.
- 49:55Shy wasn't doing that kind of thing and you really just see
- 49:57the culture go into effect in OK C.
- 49:59How does anyone with a lot of players that were home grown and
- 50:01played together? The problem right now with the
- 50:04Timberwolves lies on Anthony Edwards.
- 50:06And if Anthony I. Disagree.
- 50:07Know what the problem was last night and the last couple of
- 50:10games? Anthony Edwards?
- 50:12Nope, it was Nick's Julius Randall showing up for the
- 50:17Timberwolves. We've seen this one over and
- 50:20over and over again, guys. The empty points with the sieve
- 50:24defense and the turnovers. Speedy, He may have led the team
- 50:28in points, but he was a -, 20. He was and he was, should have
- 50:35been on the bench. He was that bad in the game.
- 50:37But he was the only one scoring, so they had to keep him out
- 50:40there. He was terrible.
- 50:42And they had a team that was his, his absolute kryptonite.
- 50:45And they were saying that his rating the last few games, it
- 50:48was like -62 So if you take a look at how he played the last
- 50:53few games, what a nightmare. And what he does that you know
- 50:57how it affects the rest of the team.
- 50:58We've seen it for years. And I think that Anthony Edwards
- 51:02realized that good Julius Randall a lot of fun to play
- 51:06with like he had earlier in the playoffs when Julius Randall had
- 51:09that 24 point triple double. This Julius Randall is the one
- 51:12that loses. I disagree that's.
- 51:14What happened? When you're what was this?
- 51:16What what was Anthony Edwards in the Game 7 for 16/7 for 18.
- 51:22If you're 7 for 18, you're going to have to give the ball to the
- 51:25guy that is not being defended or double teamed.
- 51:28And if Anthony Edwards is such a superstar, he has to find a way
- 51:32to move on the perimeter, get open and make his shots.
- 51:36He had many chances to find a way of find a lane and he
- 51:40couldn't handle the pressure that the OKC Thunder was giving
- 51:44them. And by the way, Shy Alexander
- 51:45was absolutely extraordinary when he was defending Anthony
- 51:49Edwards. He pressed on him.
- 51:50He made Anthony Edwards take tough shots and that's what you
- 51:54want to see from your superstar player.
- 51:56Play 2 dimensional basketball. Now, I don't want to hear from
- 51:58Keith. Tell me that Shy Alexander is
- 52:00Michael Jordan. He is not Michael Jordan.
- 52:03No, he said that. Well, he said that Shy Alexander
- 52:06is like the Michael Jordan of this day.
- 52:07He's not. He's not Michael Jordan.
- 52:10Michael Jordan was a completely different talent.
- 52:13And and yeah, Shy Alexander's a better shooter than Michael
- 52:15Jordan, but Michael Jordan didn't have to be a shooter in
- 52:18those days. All Michael Jordan needed to do
- 52:20was, you know, draw the double teams, play that that triangle
- 52:24offense and make sure that when he was getting his lanes, he was
- 52:28finding the lanes and soaring to the hoop.
- 52:31That's what Michael Jordan did. And that's why Michael Jordan
- 52:33was one of the greatest. It was the greatest basketball
- 52:36player of all time because he had, what do they call it, water
- 52:40in his veins, ice in his veins, or whatever the hell they call
- 52:43it. But he was special.
- 52:45Anthony Edwards doesn't have ice in his veins.
- 52:48Anthony Edwards has sheep in his veins.
- 52:51If he can have sheep blood in your veins, well, that's what he
- 52:54has. He's a sheep.
- 52:56He's a goat, that's what he is. And he's far from a goat.
- 53:01I mean, whatever. If you need to get blood, if you
- 53:04lose your blood, Jabba, he's got a goat.
- 53:06He's got a goat. He's got, he's got.
- 53:08Goat. He's got goat blood, but goat
- 53:09means he's not of all time. No, I didn't say he was.
- 53:12Yeah. But he also could be a
- 53:13scapegoat. He.
- 53:13Is a goat, that doesn't mean he's.
- 53:16Got like that? By the way, I never got.
- 53:18I never. Here's the thing.
- 53:19Greatest of all time. I understand that.
- 53:21But if you look at a goat, is that animal the greatest thing
- 53:24to look at of all time? Come on, that's one of the
- 53:26ugliest animals to look at, so how is that the?
- 53:29Fainting. The feigning goats are are top
- 53:31notch. Though Oh yeah, probably by
- 53:33eating them, that's about it. Or looking at them, you.
- 53:35Scare them and they just, they just faint.
- 53:37It's awesome. It's pretty funny, you should
- 53:39look it. Up No, I don't want to look at a
- 53:41goat into fainting. Java going back to Anthony
- 53:43Edwards blood though, he this is what I was referring to with the
- 53:46stars though he might be considered the black sheep of
- 53:48NBA superstars though, because like he's being one that is
- 53:51throwing responsive, throwing blame on everyone else too.
- 53:53And that's where his blood comes in, where all these other modern
- 53:56younger superstars, I would say not the not the LeBron era type
- 53:58ones, but all these outside of Joel Embiid, I would say like
- 54:01there's not really any like modern era from the 2017 draft
- 54:05on superstars that are like somebody like Anthony Haywards
- 54:08is outspoken as cocky as he is. And that's the other extreme
- 54:10you're seeing with Shy, Like he's not really being like that.
- 54:13Why is Josh Hart shooting 3 pointers?
- 54:15I I mean this is exactly what the New York Knicks was not
- 54:18supposed to do. They had a 50 at one point they
- 54:21had a 12 point lead and now it's cut down to 5.
- 54:24Game of Run. It's a great it's a game.
- 54:26Well, guess what? What?
- 54:27That's not how they're going to win this game.
- 54:29It can't be a game. That's why I told they got to
- 54:30slow it down. But you know, like.
- 54:32No, you said you had to pay. You want to.
- 54:34You want them to play the Pacers game.
- 54:36That's what you said. I'm pretty sure said no, I
- 54:39didn't. No, I didn't.
- 54:40I. Said I want you to slow it down.
- 54:41How are the Knicks? They can't play the Pacers game.
- 54:43The Pacers game is to go faster than anyone in NBA is.
- 54:46You just said it. I said that.
- 54:47The Knicks. I said slow it down.
- 54:49That's the opposite of what the Pacers do.
- 54:51I, I don't know, I'm pretty sure you said the opposite thing, but
- 54:55I, I'm pretty. Sure.
- 54:56No, he said. We have the videotape.
- 54:58It down. I said it like that.
- 55:00You're like. You can't do it well.
- 55:03Well, I'll say, Anthony, look, it's not that I support.
- 55:06Anyone. Anthony Edwards is the most
- 55:10immature star in the league. It's just a fact.
- 55:13Next to John Morant, I guess. There's a lot of.
- 55:15Immature right of a case. So there's a lot of immature.
- 55:18There's a lot. Joel Embiid, I think he gets a
- 55:21bad rap, I think. James Harden is immature.
- 55:24He's been armed. W Russell Westbrook has been
- 55:27immature. Over the years, Westbrook got
- 55:28into some trouble yelling at like Ramona.
- 55:30Kyrie Irving, Are you kidding me?
- 55:33Kyrie Irving's very immature. I mean, I could go on and on.
- 55:36Draymond Green is. Draymond Green really a star
- 55:40though. He is a.
- 55:41Star He. Is a star.
- 55:43He's a great example. Let's talk about that for a
- 55:45second. Draymond Green may be immature
- 55:47in his actions, but the man has also won a bunch of
- 55:50championships and he's been up the defensive anchor and he's
- 55:54made all NBA teams. You could say what you want
- 55:57about him, but those things are true.
- 55:58He's not a great shooter. He's not, you know, he's not a
- 56:00great offensive player, but he does.
- 56:03Either was Dennis Rodman. Right.
- 56:05Yeah, similar vein, right. So he may be immature, but not
- 56:10in the way that it hurts the team.
- 56:12Anthony Edwards is immature in the way that it hurts the team.
- 56:15And that's the problem. He doesn't realize that he has
- 56:18to lead by example. And when he doesn't show up or
- 56:21he gets bottled up and he starts venting like he's Jay Cutler
- 56:24yelling at his players. Because that's what it looks
- 56:27like to. Me.
- 56:29That's not going to work, man, and that's why I don't know what
- 56:33the end is going to be. He's going to either have to
- 56:34mature or he's going to have to be second banana to somebody
- 56:38that is mature. But I also think too like when
- 56:41you start, I guess perceiving other stuff and pushing on other
- 56:45people, now guys start doing stuff that they're not supposed
- 56:48to be doing and then they start pressing because they like to
- 56:51pick up slack. When it's like, hey, you'd be
- 56:54like, hey, we're in this as a team, whatever.
- 56:56If somebody doesn't pick somebody up, then it's not like,
- 56:58oh, I have to do it. It's just like he's going to get
- 57:00me the ball and we can do it. I just like we've talked about
- 57:03playing. I just don't know, like really
- 57:04where in what headspace is he in?
- 57:06Does he want to be the best? Does he not want to be the best?
- 57:08Like you don't have to score 35 every night, but if you go get
- 57:1118 and drop 15 Dimes like and play good defense, like just
- 57:16that's just as good. Just think that roster, I'm
- 57:19sorry, Errol, that roster construction.
- 57:21If Randall's not having a good game and he's he's not like
- 57:24facilitating the ball and Anthony Edwards is in the tank,
- 57:27who's creating offense? Who do they have?
- 57:30Jaden McDaniels, not a creator of offense.
- 57:33He's God bless him. He's worked on his shot to be a
- 57:35competent and NBA player and starter, but no one's going to
- 57:38say he has an average, let alone above.
- 57:40Average. Just think of this and I'll say
- 57:43it again, they had Karl Anthony Towns, they drafted him.
- 57:46He was the number one pick in the draft.
- 57:48OK #1 Anthony Edwards was the number one pick in a draft.
- 57:53So they have had a lot of luck in the NBA draft and usually
- 57:58when you get you get a chance to draft game changing players like
- 58:02Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards and you have them on the
- 58:05same roster. It means you have a very good
- 58:08chance if you develop them to win championships.
- 58:10Now you look at obviously OK C Thunder, practically they're
- 58:14starting five besides Hornstein, our first round talents, just
- 58:18think about it, every one of them have been first round picks
- 58:23and and look how they developed them.
- 58:24They developed them. It took a little while.
- 58:26Shia Alexander's been in the league for like 5 years.
- 58:29He's never played in the finals, never.
- 58:32And now he's got a chance to play in the Finals.
- 58:35Same thing with all the young players that they have on that
- 58:37roster. Haunstein's never been there.
- 58:39He played for the Knicks and he hasn't He's been a journeyman.
- 58:42I said that over and over again. Tom Thibodeau really changed his
- 58:45outlook to the game of basketball.
- 58:47He's become an all around good basketball player because he had
- 58:51his chance to play with the Knicks.
- 58:53Now I go back to the the whole Anthony Edwards thing and the
- 58:56and the Timberwolves thing. You sit here today and you're
- 58:59the owner of this organization. You're Alex Rodriguez, and you
- 59:02say, OK, what do we have or what do we need to do in the
- 59:06offseason that's going to make this team better?
- 59:09And you look at Julius Randle. Do you sign Julius Randle and
- 59:13give him an extension? I don't know.
- 59:17Or do you trade? You sign and trade Julius
- 59:20Randle, you trade Dante Divicenzo and you look in the
- 59:24offseason where hey, maybe we can move Anthony Edwards, shock
- 59:28the world, move Anthony Edwards to an organization that's going
- 59:32to give us a slew of picks and one superstar that's going to
- 59:35help us still compete for the playoffs.
- 59:39And if I was Alex Rodriguez from all those different things that
- 59:42I view out, I keep Julius Randall because you can still
- 59:46work and and use Julius Randall to get you into the playoffs.
- 59:50I would trade Anthony Edwards. I would move Anthony Edwards
- 59:54because Anthony Edwards is not a winning player.
- 59:57He's not a winning teammate and he's not a leader and you're not
- 1:00:00going to win when you don't have leadership.
