- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the once a week podcast in this podcast.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the once a week podcast brought to you by you.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: In this podcast,
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: we're going to have a subject or the opening lead is going
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: to be did Foster really shock anybody?
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Why the result shouldn't be a surprise, especially by the end of the third round.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: So really good question from my guy,
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Fan, who basically keeps the lights on for the once a week podcast.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: He gives us so many good questions and we really appreciate you.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Listen to the show.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Lukie said that Navarrete was waiting for Mark Nelson to initiate the break and talk
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: about and then was confused when Nelson didn't.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's what I'm talking about.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I tuned out and half watched after realizing that Nelson was giving Foster the early breaks.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: So...
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of examples.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: The examples I'll reference,
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Lennox Clark versus Willie Hutchinson, Lennox Clark versus Mark Heffernan.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: My recommendation,
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: honestly,
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: on this frame,
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: I guess maybe I skew more towards life is boring and monotonous than
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: the world is conspiracy-filled and such like that.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And not to say this is necessarily a conspiracy,
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: but I think the underlying assumption here is that the referee had showed favoritism
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: towards Foster who was able to work...
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Struggling with words this morning.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: But essentially, Foster was punching off the break.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And this was a fight in which...
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: The referee allowed a fighter to work in close.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: He allowed them to fight out of those places.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know if going in,
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: if I had heard the fight would be reffed like that,
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: I would have assumed that that favored Navarrete.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go on a tangent here, but to me, it reminded me of Josh Taylor versus...
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Jose Ramirez, where Ramirez wasn't seeing that Taylor was punching off of the break.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And I think that Navarrete was really surprised with how hard shock hit.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So I think he was touching his nose a lot because he was kind of like, am I really hurt?
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I noticed,
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I think it was the third round,
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: he threw a right hand, he started shaking his right hand like this.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: And then there was this unsettling tempo.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: I think that Navarrete, not unlike Canelo, maybe...
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Other fighters.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: He likes to go downhill and he likes to dictate the terms of a fight.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: He likes to control the chaotic nature, the pace, etc, etc.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: His game plan isn't as much like craft as it is what's the speed and rhythm of the fight?
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: What's the cadence?
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: On the inside at times,
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: it felt as though Shock Foster was the physically stronger man, which surprised me.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I would have thought Navarrete would have been the stronger man.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: And referees are not unlike umpires in baseball.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: They have their own strike zones.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: They have their own views of things.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: And on any given night, you have to mentally be ready for whatever is in front of you.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: And Navarrete is obviously a champion,
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: but if this is being billed as one of the best fights of the year,
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: A referee making a decision that you have to fight out on the inside should not be
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: a decision that breaks a fight.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: It shouldn't be a hindrance to a fight.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: That should be something that made an adjustment.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: I think what I'm seeing from the question you're bringing up about how the...
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Basically saying that the same fighter, same referee...
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: But also the match saying Navarrete had been successful in rounds two to four,
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: getting Foster in the corners or on the ropes.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, let's break down some of these scenarios, right?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So it felt as though Foster was doing a two-headed monster attack.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: He was pressing Navarrete to get in that mid-range because he couldn't extend on
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: the punches and he felt strong enough.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: To hurt him and he drops him in the 12th.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: But then there were times where he wanted to walk himself back to the ropes.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And he was looking for that right hand that eventually landed in the 12th.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: That's what I was seeing.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: So kind of some of that was turn pivot angle.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And what I mean by that is drop.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I'll talk you through kind of how I saw what turn pivot.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: It's not necessarily the school,
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: the textbook definition of turn, pivot, and angle, but get lower to the ground.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: So he'd bend his knees, head to his chest, boom.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Look if he could work there.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Sometimes if it was a lot of pressure coming, grab, turn, circle, center of the ring.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: And what I saw was,
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: and maybe this is what you're getting at is,
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Navarrete felt deflated that he had to work so hard to get Foster on the ropes and
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: then Foster,
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: if anything was getting crazy,
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: could go, let me grab, let me hold, let me turn and move.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: I didn't think it was excessive.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a strategic tactic used in scenarios that Navarrete had to adjust for.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: You know, it didn't feel as though that was the crux of his fighting style.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Whereas with Armel Harder-Biage, it felt as though holding was literally a tactic for the fight.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: In this fight, it felt in certain circumstances, Foster would hold, grab, pivot, turn.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Um...
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: According to Lukie's description,
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: when Navarrete was in a similar situation,
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: and I'm reading from the question,
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: because he directly experienced how Mark Nelson called the break from rounds two
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: to four.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Navarrete was confused.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: It was the same referee, same match.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: I think that also,
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: you know what I think what that can also mean when referees maybe start changing?
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: The crowd bullies.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: And I think this is something to think about too is,
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Navarrete, when these things happen, and it's a boxing match, right?
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: So you have to be willing and understand that at times a fight can be a fight
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: and it can be fluid.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And you have to make adjustments.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: That's part of the thing.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you hurt your hands.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you don't feel great.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you fight sick.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Sometimes the referee was letting you work in positions in the ring and then all of
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: a sudden you're not able to work.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: If you want my opinion on why, which I don't, I felt like the fight was called the same way.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: I feel like it was more so Foster not standing in front of Navarrete,
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: at times clinching Navarrete when Navarrete got his hopes up that he was able
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: to work.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: And then the punches starting to accumulate damage on Navarrete that was adding up
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: with the frustration.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: But if there was any difference in the refereeing,
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: which I don't fully see,
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: I would say it was from the crowd that might have been dissatisfied early on.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: And sometimes the referees,
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: when they hear a crowd being like boo or whatever,
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: rather than talking through the clinch or okay,
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: and maybe more so in this question,
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: they'll get into it,
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: but It's like they might say work out of it because when you say work out of it,
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: it's supposed to inspire action and it's supposed to be a good fight.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: I want to get into this too.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: How many 50-50 fights has Shock Foster had and how many
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: of those fights shouldn't have been 50-50 fights?
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: And I think that's also the frustration from Shock's team is like,
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Stephen Fulton wasn't a competitive fight on paper,
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: but people talked like it was a 50-50 fight
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: because people don't fully take Shock serious, right?
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: And I think there's a chip on the shoulder with Shock was bringing into this fight
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: where he felt as though he was going to have this type of performance,
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: but the world was saying, ah, 50-50 fight, man, Shock Foster, how good is he?
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: And...
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: I think that also might be what you're seeing is that Shock Foster's tired
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: of just being a regular Joe.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: He's tired of being a guy that people say, oh yeah, he's pretty good.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: And then any top 10 fighter, they go, oh man, 50-50 fight.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: There's a level of disrespect to that.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Pound-for-pound fighters typically are the odds-on favorite,
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: and Shock Foster's traditionally been the underdog or at least 50-50 fight guy
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: when he's in good fights.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Then the question expands.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: There are two clues that answer that question.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: The first was given by the announcers.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: The second was Mark Nelson's decision for the...
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, look, the announcing doesn't dictate...
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I think this is going...
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: I love a conspiracy theory,
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: but this is going down a rabbit hole that I don't fully think...
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's because I like Shock.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: I make no bones about it.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: I've interviewed him for about seven years and...
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: You know, fuck you.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: You know, people are like, oh my God, you're biased.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: I try my hardest not to be, but guess what?
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: I'm not a dork.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: You know, I go to boxing gyms.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: So if every now and then a real fighting guy kind of is a story that inspires me,
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: well, you're probably in the wrong place.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: You need to listen to something a little bit less, you know, boxing related.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: You should probably listen to a guy that's terrified of a gym.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: So they say the announcers give it away.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think the announcers thought and bought into that this was a 50-50 fight.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: And within the first minute of the fight, I kind of, I looked over at my girlfriend.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: I go, shock's going to win this.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: And she goes, don't curse it.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: I go, no,
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: it's like the hand speed,
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: the ability to fight on the inside,
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: his distance and range, Navarrete's inability to do his wild stuff and land.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: It's, it's just, It was his night.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: I could see it early on as long as he kept it up.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: And then Nelson's decisions for what type of match it would be by the end
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: of round one, three announcers were talking as if Foster was up 10-0, not 1-0.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Well, I think the reason they're talking that way is because a lot of people going
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: in really didn't Believe in Foster.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Foster's someone that major promoters didn't fully get behind until he won
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: a world title.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: He won a world title and was a free agent,
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: and his first title defense was in Mexico against a champion that many people,
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: or against a challenger many people thought would beat him.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: a knockout artist,
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Rocky Hernandez,
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: who had lost one fight by knockout in the first round,
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: got cut by his original promoter,
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: but rebuilt, and people were like, okay, now he's ready.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Basically the rest of this first question is the narrative from the broadcast crew
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: from the opening round was it was Foster's fight to lose.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: I just think that like people,
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: here's the problem with these type of criticisms in my opinion about criticizing
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: the broadcast crew or criticizing the ref.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: There is a little bit of a lack of empathy for being a practitioner in that position.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: A person watching the fight is fluidly experiencing what's going to happen.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: And they're talking through the situations.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: And I think when everyone didn't expect Shock Foster to basically win
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: a 9-3 type fight,
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: dominant performance,
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: the first few rounds where that's starting to happen is going to really shock,
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: no pun intended.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: The broadcaster, they're going to go, what is going on?
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: Why is this happening?
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: The idea that Foster was set up to win,
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: even the chance of Navarrete pulling out a Dog Bay win,
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: a Villa win, was removed early.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: See, I don't agree with these.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: And even if that were the case, the broadcasters don't always dictate the result in the ring.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: A great example would be Chris Algieri versus Ruslan Provodnikov.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Some of that commentary outside of Andre Ward did not reflect the fight we were seeing.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: The judges scorecards didn't, but Algeria won and Algeria walked away with the victory.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: The broadcast impacts the way maybe fans see it, but it serves no purpose for the fight itself.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: So I get maybe for your experience,
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: what you're seeing,
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: or maybe you're entering,
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: wanting a different type of experience,
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: which isn't the The fluid in real time,
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: wow, shock fosters better than I thought, which is kind of how the telecast went.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: But I think it's an unrealistic expectation because these are people and also,
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: you know, the broadcasters don't fight the fight.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: So if you, if,
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Navarrete could make an adjustment in this fight,
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: the broadcast wouldn't have mattered as much.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Game over.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Does anybody watch boxing?
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: Normally the referee helps the favored fighter if they get in trouble.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, we can point to instances, but again, this is conspiracy theories.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: This is the assumption.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Those in the institution are inherently bad.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: That's the way I'm interpreting it.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: The announcers are inherently bad.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: They're going against,
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: or I shouldn't say inherently bad, but the announcers are inherently biased.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: You're looking past the idea that announcers do hours and hours of preparation,
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: pre-fight meetings,
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: deeply think about the fight, talk about the fight, do fight buildups, etc.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: And then to say this,
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: the referees have to Battle and grind their way through the club circuit to get to
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: a fight of this magnitude.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: They have to show some level of competency.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Yes, we can look at one of the judges who had the fight 115-111,
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: which kind of dispels my opinion, but we're not even talking about that.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: To me, the most egregious thing is that one of the judges had this fight a close
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: and competitive fight, which to me is crazy.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: It shouldn't have been.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: It shouldn't have been.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: There's no reality where this is a close competitive fight at all.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: And yet one of the judges thought it was that.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And I guess my pushback on this is, yes, sometimes referees make mistakes.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we can question.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: Why the referee did something.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: But guess what?
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: A lot of times their job is really hard.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: They're like the hall monitor of boxing.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: And it's not a super, super fun job to have.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't want to be a referee because all you're doing is you're trying to create
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: a neutral grounds for a result to happen.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: And this is a sport where tons of crazy scenarios can happen and the wrong guys can win.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: The wrong situations can win.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: This almost feels as though, to me,
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: As a case of I'm watching a fight and I'm dissatisfied with how
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: the referee is reffing the fight rather than I think the referee did something.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: I think this is almost coming into the fight and I'm pushing back on you,
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: fan, that you're looking and going, I knew he was a bad guy.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: I knew it.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: I knew he was bad.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: I knew it.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: He's so bad.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: And I don't think that the referee is a bad guy.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: I think that It's more so,
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: and I'm not attacking you and being adversarial,
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: but there's like this,
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: sometimes guys are going to go into these big stages and
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: the referees have hard moments too.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: And you have to really, really try to make the most of it.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: And I didn't see anything that was like, There was no talking points for me about it.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: The only talking point was the referee said, hey, work out of the clinch.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Honestly,
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: in previous Navarrete fights,
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: I would have been like, man, that's an advantage for Navarrete.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: But Navarrete started being passive and looking over.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Yes, okay.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: If I look back on the tape,
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: according to the, This question from rounds two to four, it was refed differently.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Well,
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: maybe the fans bullied the reaction of the referee or maybe as the fight evolved,
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: the referee decided, okay, let's be fluid.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: We're kind of giving Navarrete a huge break for him not adjusting.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, something changed, right?
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: If I was putting the square in the square peg and all of a sudden I need to use
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: a circle and I keep putting the square in the circle peg,
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: at some point I have to adjust and And even if they change the parameters of
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: the shape that I put in the hole, I've got to kind of solve something.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: And I guess where I'm going
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: to push back is it feels like Navarrete isn't getting any criticism for
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: a performance where he showed an inability to adjust and an inability
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: to bully his opponent.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: In other words,
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Navarrete had a small chance of winning,
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: but even that small chance was removed by Nelson in resetting the two
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: to heavily benefit Foster.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, the instances that I'm seeing of that is Foster goes to ropes.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: Navarrete's throwing some wild stuff.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Sometimes they look like they're hitting the gloves.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: They might be hitting him.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Foster leans in, grabs, holds, middle of the ring, turn, pivot, out.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: That creates a very frustrating Navarrete where he's like,
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: oh God, I got to do this all over again.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Rinse and repeat.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Could the referee have put a warning?
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Maybe, but I think the problem with that is,
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: at least to me,
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: and this is my definition,
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: you could say I'm a homer,
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: is That can get warnings,
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: in my opinion, if that is the centerpiece of your fighting style.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Foster was doing various techniques and winning the rounds, and then at times was holding.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: It's not the centerpiece of how he was fighting.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: The announcers gave the game away in the first round.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Durr, Foster.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: I just think that this is an angry...
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: I think that as I read through this question...
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: The telecast,
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: the style of the fight and the way every it feels as though either you expected
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: a different fight or the you came in frustrated with what you were seeing.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: And there's a level of emotion kind of coming through with this question is what I'm seeing.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: So we're going to go through that.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: And there's nothing wrong with it.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: You know, shoot,
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: I've been dealing with a lot of emotions lately,
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: feeling like a failure and all that stuff.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Navarrete was basically asked to be a jobber.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: No, he wasn't.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: And that took away the excitement of the match.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: He wasn't asked to be a jobber.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: He was asked to make an adjustment.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: We got to put the onus on the fighter.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: Navarrete doesn't have headphones on and he can't listen to the telecast.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Navarrete was being asked, this guy's not going to stand in front of you.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: And when you do get him on the ropes, he might hold.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: And you can't just say, hey, ref, can you deduct a point and make him stand in front of me?
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: The ref on this night said, I'm not going to do that.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: And I get the emotion and frustration from watching on the outside,
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: especially when I enjoyed boxing and didn't cover it.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: I'd have moments like that.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Just talking to a fighter the other day about how,
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: you know, Paul Williams beat Erislandy Lara and it's a horrible decision.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: But when I first watched it, I was so happy because I liked Paul Williams.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Now I'd be like, man, that's embarrassing.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: So if I just as a viewer noticed that by round two,
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: how much earlier would Navarrete's team notice it?
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: Probably from the start or even...
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't see it.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: And that is what makes this an emotions fight.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: And that's where I was getting at.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, so here we go.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Navarrete reportedly did not want this fight.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: But okay, some more details about this because I heard some stuff.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: So Navarrete reportedly missed weight on his first 10.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: He missed...
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: He didn't miss weight on his first attempt,
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: and it's been kind of, from what I've heard, a traditional Navarrete thing.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Navarrete attempts to go,
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: looks at what the scale is on an unofficial attempt,
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: comes back,
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: came in,
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know what his weight was,
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: but I did hear that he was possibly heavy,
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: and then he made the weight on the number.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: And that's been Navarrete for years.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: That's kind of been his MO, you know, for a good while.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: This question questions, does this sound like best versus best?
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, it doesn't.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, Navarrete has been the exception to the rule for a long period of time.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: And this is my fear with these type of matchups with Shock Foster is,
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Navarrete's a pound-for-pound guy until Shock Foster beats him because,
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: heaven forbid, Shock can't beat a guy that's pound-for-pound.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: And it's like Navarrete's been doing all these type of things and defied the system.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Does this sound like a unified champion emotionally invested to win?
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: To me, it does because this has been what he does, right?
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: And he's in this fight of the year.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: He's coming off this Eduardo Nunes fight.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: A chance to be undisputed, which is historically great.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Navarrete is probably a Hall of Fame boxer as it is,
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: but that would have easily cemented him as one of the top guys of the era
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: and potentially a Lomachenko or Charlie Suarez fight.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: Those are interesting fights.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: I could develop this idea further, but let's jump down to round 12.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: Navarrete is called for the knockdown.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Why did he protest?
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: What did his face look like?
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: See, for me...
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: I forget if it was the first or second, but it looked like he hurt his knee when he went down.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: And being someone that's been dropped in sparring,
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: which I'll freely admit it,
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: the immediate reaction I experienced,
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: and I'm not sure if this is what Navarrete felt was,
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: I looked at someone else being like, nah, he didn't knock me down.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: And I totally got knocked down.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: So I think part of that was, once again, pun intended, shock.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: He didn't think Foster could drop him.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: And sometimes the immediate reaction is to look and be like,
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: no, that's a slip because you're trying to almost be a politician at that point.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: The fight's getting away from you, but they're like, no, man, that's not it.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: That's not it.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: Five seconds ago, what did Navarrete do?
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: He stopped, touched gloves, and raised his hand.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: I think that that was...
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: The five seconds to go, what did he do?
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: I think that's...
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: It's been a hard fight.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: It's been a fight that I never got settled in.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: And I think that was him saying, I'm just done.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: that kind of reminded me of Erislandy Lara versus Austin Trout,
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: where Austin Trout was like, I'm done with this after that fight.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Was Foster surprised?
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: This was an emotions fight where basically everything came together for one fighter
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: and the opponent basically tried their best but did not really invest in the match.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: I'm going to say...
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: What we saw with Navarrete was he is a really good frontrunner, is possibly the story.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: And when a fight became about having to adjust, he's not an adjustments guy.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: And it speaks to the level of fighter Navarrete is to me
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: that he could reach this type of level and not have to adjust.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: But to me, it was about adjustments and it was about his ability to...
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: And to, you know, he couldn't adjust and he didn't enjoy that he couldn't adjust, basically.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Let's go to the other questions of the week.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: The video game thing is not just about damage.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: It's about whether the boxer adapts versus the boxing.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: The boxer acting like a character in Punch-Out.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Smith and team already knew Albert Puello was the mandatory pre-Sabril Matias.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: And they had nine months in two camps to develop and train a game plan for Puello.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Good point.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: Puello.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, and then they bring up Puello just has all these split decisions,
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: split decisions, split decisions.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: That's a lot of split decisions, majority decisions, and close wins at world level.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: The WBC...
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Once again, it's my guy fan, but there's always fear.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: As a fight fan,
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: I think there's always skepticism about the administration of boxing
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: because it's janky, but I really don't
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: think it's as apparent as we think.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: For me, with Puello, the issue is He has tons of talent.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: He has tons of ability.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: He never shows the urgency one wants to see from a fighter like that.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: So he's never on it.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: He's never quick, you know?
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: And that's what leads to the split decision.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: He's also not a super profitable fighter.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: So it's like,
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: When you get a spoiler who's trying to win fight rounds 53, 47,
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: it's not impossible where you fight in a guy's hometown or you fight
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: a bigger name fighter and that happens.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: Then the next question is frustrations around Maxie Hughes' career.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Hughes' timing and rhythm is going to be all off after moving to 140,
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: back down to 135 in a span of months.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: And then kind of am I overrating?
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: There's a sentiment that I'm overrating Maxie Hughes.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: And then the next question after the fight was essentially solely is going to get
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: a lot of criticism that he was the first ever pro.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: This was his first ever fight against the Southpaw.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: And to me, the big thing is
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Hughes does deserve a lot of credit, you know.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: He's a guy who comes to win, who has a bunch of losses.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: I think that when he should have been a prospect that went into
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: that world-class range, he didn't make the most of his ability.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: But he's really gotten a lot out of his career over the last three,
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: four years by maximizing the moments he does get.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: And he's been a great British fighter.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: He's a real tricky guy.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: And when you put in young guys who haven't been to the top of the mountain...
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: He's the type of guy that's going to test them.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: And if they really don't got it, he's the type of guy that beat them.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: The Gary Culley win to me really stood out because that's the type of win he shouldn't have won.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: And he basically derailed an exciting prospect.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Yes, Jose Felique, Felix Jr., the old top-ranked prospect, started it off by stopping him.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: But, you know, after that fight, Cully, I think I thought, okay, Cully will come back.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: And then Hughes just dominates him.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: And who knows whatever happened to Gary Cully after that.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: And he was an exciting prospect.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: So I would say I feel I'm pretty accurate with Hughes where...
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: I think that he's a really, really tough test for anybody.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: I don't always expect him to win.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: But if you're able to separate or dominate Maxi Hughes, you're a really special fighter.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: You really are.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: And I think that just proved it.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: It's like Vassoli won a 6-4 fight.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: And for where he's at, 23, 24 years old, tons of talent, probably 12, 13, 11 fights.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: You know, that's a really, really quality win.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: And that's the type of experience that molds you into a world champion.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: But we live in the social media era of sensationalism and all this crap.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: So
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: sometimes the things that help you right now in life are the things
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: that also get you criticism because experience doesn't always look good
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: on Instagram.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: Steve Robinson's son is fighting Derek Chisora's nephew Sunday on a top tier card.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, Keyshawn Davis, Richardson Hitchens, Tank Davis, not interested.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: Not interested in David Murrell, Steven Fulton, or Carlos Adami's either.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Missing weight, pulling out of matches, talking on X.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Why bother?
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: I mean...
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Let me go through these Shakur.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: I think Shakur, Devin, Keyshawn, Hitchens and Tank.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: I get where you're frustrated,
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: but like I'm always interested because they're really relevant fighters
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: and we're waiting for someone to kind of be the face of this generation.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: It probably should be Shakur, but it's just not going that way.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Devin was probably the most popular fighter of this decade until 2024
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: and he's never really regained those heights.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: Keyshawn Davis can't get out of his own way.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Tank isn't fighting.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: Hitchens is probably happy that he's even mentioned amongst these guys.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Um, David Murrell at this point to me is, is going to have to win a big fight.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: He's going to have to go to the opposite corner and win Fulton.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: I agree with you.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty done with Fulton.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: Um, From,
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: missing weight for Shock Foster to going into the Liam Wilson fight,
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: just blowing weight.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: He's not a serious fighter.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: The in a way loss really, I think, destroyed parts of him.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: That your rational confidence guy is gone.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: And we just haven't seen the same hunger and motivation.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: He was a fringe pound for pound level guy.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: And now I think every fight's a real fight for him.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: And Carlos Adamis, I think, is a really, really good fighter.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: It's just he's inactive.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: And then, like, to sum it up, he's fighting November 14th on Paramount Plus in Riyadh.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, what are we doing?
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: It's against a guy we've never heard of.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: He signed with Zufa.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Hopefully we can see him in relevant fights.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: I think in 2023, Adamis, if he got a push...
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Could have been a Canelo opponent and could have been a star,
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: but it just seems like inactivity just really hurt his career.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: They can take their fans with him.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Most of their fans only prefer boxing personalities and no other boxers.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think that that...
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: I want to speak to that too.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: I think the issue with that is that...
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: That's the world, right?
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: So like when you have every boxer has their own reality show called Instagram and X
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: and sometimes YouTubes and stuff,
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: there's going to be a generation of people who are like,
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: I really like guys that play Street Fighter or cool dressing people
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: or checking out stuff.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: There's going to be some people that don't like it that are typically older.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: Um...
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: It's just, it's going to get worse and worse.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: And yeah, let's see.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: It's just, you know, social media has made the world weird.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: It's a great way to just end that.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: WBC tournament finalist Derek Pomerleo is moving to 168,
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: heading to a gym, now iBox card in Montreal today.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: Guido Vianello Loser, Lexus Barrera, co-mains.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: That's a good card.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: I'm going to check that out later today.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: Do you think Sammy Contreras is in the ideal weight class?
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Does he throw punches that are Hobson can say so as sloppy, but hard punches?
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: I think Sammy is like 21, 22.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure about the weight class.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: I know he's big for the weight.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: I know he's also moved around a couple of weight classes.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: So that's,
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: But it's tricky, right?
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: Because he's a pretty big guy and he's shrinking down to these other weights.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: We're going to see frustration.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: We need an upset in the month for July.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: Paput was the favorite.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: Ruben Edgar Aguilar's loss was changed to a no contest.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: So dissatisfaction with my monthly awards.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: Hate to see it.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: The developing story if that happens.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's go to film study.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: R.R.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: Andells versus Rato.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: Not looking at records.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: I'm not looking at anything because as everyone knows,
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: in boxing, everything can be manufactured.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: So let's just look at,
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: this is Blow by Bow Boxing,
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Blow by Blow on YouTube, no boxing, presented by Manny Pacquiao.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: So pretty cool.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: Okay, fighter ring walks.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Got to see the introductions because I don't know who's who.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, there we go.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: And Dallas is a pretty good fighter, is my first impression.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: He's not, like, obviously he's not technically sound as much.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: Like, he has good fundamentals.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: But it's like they're, so typically the fighters I'm drawn to are hit and don't get hit.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: He's definitely from the school of,
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: like, he has some defense, but he's going to get hit a little bit.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: He's looking to exchange.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: And he's the dreaded action fighter who punches with you.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: He's going to square up to look to get some shots.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: But wait.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's going to square up with you to get some shots.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: But he's physically strong.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: And I'm enjoying the way he...
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: I want to see the middle rounds.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Looks like he just wears on you.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: He wears on you.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: Okay, so now they're going backwards.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, basically until he hits his punch limit,
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: he's going to expire one of these days because it's so grueling and tough.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: He's going to burn the candle at both ends, basically.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: The highlight reel right here coming up.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: Caught him with a right uppercut.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: So this fight, actually it's a really, really good fight.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: If you're in the mood to just see a really, really good fight.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you could watch that one.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see, so, and then right to, okay.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: Something tells me Raito Katakoka is gonna be the exact opposite.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: Although I'm watching an amateur fight and he's just coming forward
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's pressing forward, but this could be an interesting fight, right?
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: Because I'm going to say Ryoto,
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: he does press forward,
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: but you don't see the physical strength one might hope for for a fighter
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: of this nature.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: So you'd like to see a guy that's like maybe a little bit physically stronger.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Just as I say that, I'm looking at a highlight of him.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: Um, Push him back, this guy, with a right hand.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: I mean, with a right toe,
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: the big thing that it looks like he has is he has the bibble step back.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: He likes to come forward, press, press,
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: and then he likes to find your range,
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: step back, and then turn a right hand over and catch you with that punch.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: And that's really,
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: at least as an amateur,
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: that's kind of his stick,
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: is jab, jab, get you to overcommit, and then straight right.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: Could be the opponent, too.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: I'm watching him against Kazim Abaz.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see his pro debut.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, the big thing about this fight is physicality.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: I believe that's Shingo in a way in his corner too.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: So he's pressing.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is the same as the amateur.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: So he's like, well, there.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: It's like he doesn't have a probing jab.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: His jab is very, very calculated, and it's not to land.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: It's to set up power shots.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: So he sticks it out.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: It seems like his default is to counterpunch.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: He's not a combination puncher from what I'm seeing.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: It's an interesting fight, right?
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: Because they have two like-minded individuals.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: The big thing I would look at in this fight is who hits harder.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: My gut feeling is Ryoto.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: But see, he's getting hit a ton.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: But it just feels like Raito probably hits hard.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: And in a battle of guys that stand in front of each other and are looking
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: to land big shots, that could be enough.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: I also feel like my guy Inaldis has more experience.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: Let's look at the records.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: Let's do what I should never do.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Let's look at the records and then just completely throw this off.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: So he's 2-0, two KOs, relatively untested, hand-selected opposition.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: And Enaldus is 19-2-3, but fought really good guys.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: His draws look like they could possibly even be...
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I mean, he's a real guy in his losses.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: That's a good fight.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: I guess you have to favor Raito because,
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: once again,
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: I did this whole rant about the politics of boxing not matter,
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: but, you know, you're fighting in Japan.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Raito's from Japan.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: He also seems like the physically stronger fighter,
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: which this feels like this could be a fight that just simply comes down
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: to being physically stronger.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Denzel Bentley versus Shane Mosley Jr.?
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: I'd love to.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: Denzel Bentley is one of my feel spot guys.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love Denzel Bentley.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: So this is obviously I'm watching.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: Bentley here.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: The thing about Bentley is when he's on like with this Janabek fight,
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: he's a very good boxer and he can hold his range on like in the mid range,
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: I would say.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: And he can, he can effectively punch with you and turn with you.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: So he, he's a really good boxer, but most people don't view boxing as this.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: He kind of fights like an eighties fighter and he's able to, to exchange, turn and go.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: I felt as though he won this fight watching live.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: The big thing that he troubled Janabek with was he was willing to punch with Janabek.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: He was willing to stand his ground, and he also was willing to move.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: Well, that sounds silly, but he was willing to exchange.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: He was willing to punch with him,
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: but he was also moving enough where Janabek couldn't just sit down on shots.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: He had to adjust more.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: And I think that also what makes Bentley tricky is he's a boxer,
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: but he's going to box you while inherently coming forward,
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: but he kind of stops in the mid-range.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: And I think that's also tricky is he's looking to counter, he's looking to fight with you.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: And dare I say fearless, like he's someone that I think builds momentum as a fight goes on.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: So he's someone that needs to fight himself into the fight.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: In his losses, it felt like the fight got away from him early.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: He's also a rhythm fighter,
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: someone where I feel like a guy who doesn't have good tempo or rhythm can't dance.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: They're actually going to have an easier time with him than maybe an elite boxer.
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: And now let's look at Shane Mosley Jr., Shane's my guy.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: I've been dealing with Shane for a long time.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: And I mean, Shane to me is a really, really good fighter.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: He's obviously a top 10 fighter in his division.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: He's consistently improved year after year, really good shape.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: The thing about this fight that stands out is Mosley is an overachiever who tends
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: to win these type of fights.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: He sits in the mid-range and is able to punch with guys and land with guys.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: The problem with Mosley Jr. is when he gets hit clean, it's very eye-catching.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: There's two problems with that.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: The fight is happening in the UK and that could make people react.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure how big Denzel Bentley's fans are there,
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: but this could be like kind of a weird, ugly fight.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: And the most eye-catching punch could be
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: the one landed by, you guessed it, Bentley.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: And it could be, you know, there could be very little beyond that, right?
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: Hard fight to judge,
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: because it's like Mosley and Bentley in a lot of ways are the same type of fighter.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: I would say Mosley's just a little bit more upright and a little bit stiffer
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: than Bentley is a little bit more fluid,
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: but I'd say Bentley in a weird way has more miles on him.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: So I see it as a 50-50 fight.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: If you have to get the edge just slightly, I'd give the edge just slightly to possibly Bentley.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: Carlos Emiliano Rojas Vasquez versus Flavios Bahia.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: This is the fight of the decade for Romanian boxing.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: Daniel Cor... Daniel...
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: Corbeno versus Flavius Bia.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: I sure hope so.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: That'd be sick.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Flavius Bia.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: Got a sick mohawk.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: My guess is these guys are just going to stand in front of each other and trade.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: And I was totally right.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: So just to give you a bad broadcaster,
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: they got also the temporary tattoos on their back like they did in the early 2000s.
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: Bia's already rocked with some crazy right hands and And he's holding a little bit,
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: but it looks like
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: he's going to work on fighting out of this.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, he's already recovered.
- 44:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is a wild one.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: He's a pretty good counter puncher.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: He's got his little, I'd call it his shtick.
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: He's got a right uppercut, left hook he throws.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: He goes boom, boom.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: He's going to try to throw it at you.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: Jab, stiff punches.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: Pretty good.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: Physical, gets hit.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: Bia, to me, feels like a guy that needs to get caught with a punch to get going in a fight.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: Now let's look at Emmanuel Rojas, probably.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: It could be like the fight that we didn't know we needed in our life.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: Man, I love these type of fights.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: I miss these.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: I got a manual Rojas, 19-06 KOs.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: Ooh, this could be a fight.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: You know, this is a real fight.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: This is a real fight because Rojas is not, Like the end all be all.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: I'm not loving what I'm seeing right now.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, Bia is very, very limited.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, this is happening this weekend.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, Roja, the thing about Roja that he has over Bia is...
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: He has the ability to know where the end of his punches are
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: and he's got some things he's working on.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: He's a big body puncher,
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: but the thing I don't love about his body punching is he punches from all
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: the way out.
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: What I mean is like probably the distance of a jab where you get full extension on a jab.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: He'll throw wild body shots from out there and it just feels like a matter of time
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: before he gets caught or something really, really bad happens there.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: His favorite,
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: and he also has this habit of pretty muscular guy,
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: and it looks like in the fourth round, he's already kind of slowing down.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: He's trying to impose his will on guys, physical and dirty.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: To me,
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: this is the fight that I'm going to want to watch on the free limbs on Saturday
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: because this looks like a...
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: Rock'em, sock'em fight.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: Roja lost a point in this fight that I'm watching against Abel, Russo, Rivas.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: This is a real fight,
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: and I'm tempted to be the contrarian and almost say,
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: if he's mentally in it, could win this, because it's like, you know...
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: Rob Ha is looking horrid in the second half and he's very limited.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: And it's just going to come down to who hits harder, right?
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Who hits harder?
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to, I'm going to go out on a limb.
- 47:21SPEAKER_00: We're going to get a lukie film study upset pick.
- 47:25SPEAKER_00: There you go for the Calciads.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Beck, Nern,
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: Jambet versus Marcos,
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: Vasquez, Rodriguez, Marcos, Vasquez, Rodriguez fought Lorenzo, Francisco, Larrazano.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: On an untelevised Isak Pitbull Cruz versus Nestor Bravo.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: He also tested positive for PDs before fighting Steve Nelson.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: I remember the Steve Nelson fight.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: I really do.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: I know Marcos Vasquez.
- 47:51SPEAKER_00: He's physically tough.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: Come forward, what you see is what you get guy.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: I think he's a little soft to the body.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: Let's check out my guy Beck, Nurmjumbeck.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: Beck, this is a weird observation.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: Beck looks a little,
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he's small for the weight,
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: but he doesn't look filled out for the weight class.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: He's Southpaw.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: He's just moving.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: He's moving.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: Thing I'm noticing is one punch at a time and he's not a big,
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: he's very composed, almost too composed on the ropes, which I don't love seeing.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: Um, He's a one punch at a time.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: That's the big thing I'm seeing here, but against this level of opponent, it shouldn't matter.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: See how he works.
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, the other thing about Beck is he's a little too,
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: like, he's not allowing his talent to dictate the speed of the fight.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: He's just kind of walking forward and trying to physically match the guy,
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: but it looks like he's maybe a little undersized for the weight class.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: And there's a lot of just like counter punches, slips, one punch, one punch, you go, I go.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: And that's not the best.
- 49:10SPEAKER_00: That's not the best thing.
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah,
- 49:17SPEAKER_00: I'd predict Beck to win this,
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: but honestly, I'd probably expect him to go to decision.
- 49:23SPEAKER_00: Um, Let me watch Marquez Vasquez.
- 49:26SPEAKER_00: From what I remember about Marquez Vasquez is he's a pretty heavy-handed guy.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: He's a pretty strong guy, but he's also pretty damn limited.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: Like, he's just going to come forward.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Yep, soft to the body.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: Pressure comes forward.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is the type of fight Beck should win,
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: but I wouldn't be shocked if it goes every minute of every round.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: It's a fight where Beck,
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: if he wants to make it higher on the card,
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: these are the type of fights you need to look better in.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: Brian Leon Salgado versus Hector Aguilar.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Hector Aguera?
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see this.
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: Check out Hector Aguera.
- 50:14SPEAKER_00: He's taking on Giovanni Pina Navarro.
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's fighting a guy that's not even in shape.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: Just fundamentally all messed up.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: He's a southpaw.
- 50:31SPEAKER_00: His hands are low.
- 50:33SPEAKER_00: Stands too tall.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: His knees aren't bent enough.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: His head's on the line.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: He reaches for punches.
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: His hands are nowhere near his face.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's got all the makings of a guy that's just going to get hit with clean punches.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: I don't need to watch more than that,
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: but just,
- 50:48SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: Kind of a tailor-made opponent for a really talented, coordinated up-and-comer.
- 50:58Yeah, let's see.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: Now we're just waiting on this ad.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: Waiting.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see, Breon.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, this is probably going to be a stoppage because Breon...
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: Just has physical abilities that his opponent doesn't have.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: He's coordinated, he's stronger, he's quicker.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: And typically in these lower level developmental fights,
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: those are the traits that win the fight for you.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: Finishes to the body well as well.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Can you break down Arito Tasuma versus Raymond Rojas?
- 51:40SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Raymond Ray Rojas.
- 51:55SPEAKER_00: I lost my tab, I lost where I was, okay, there we go.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: Okay, Raymond Rojas, I gotta figure out where I am.
- 52:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, Rojas is an interesting fighter here.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: I'm watching him against Juan Salvador Fernandez.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: He is a fighter that you don't see that often.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: I think his feet are really good, but the way he throws punches is not always ideal.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: He loads up on punches and looks like he's throwing rocks,
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: but he's able to pit of it, angle, and he's got some pretty good footwork.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: And typically...
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: You kind of see the opposite,
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: at least in regional and club level fights,
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: where you see guys that have good hands but bad feet.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: He has good feet, it's just the punch selection is iffy.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Let's see if cardiovascular slows down stuff.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he slows down towards the end of the fight.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: He can't keep the pace up.
- 53:21SPEAKER_00: And then he starts to trade and exchange.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: He's a solid fighter.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: The thing I also like about him is when he gets to the inside, he drops his head.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: And for those that don't know,
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: when you go lower on the inside,
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: you're going to be the stronger, more physical fighter.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: And he works from there pretty well.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: He's a tricky guy.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: Um, he's definitely the type of fighter that you have to really,
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: really prepare for because he's upset minded and he's, he's very, very good.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: Um, Tetsumi is a top notch guy.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: So obviously when you're,
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: when you're a prospect and you're fighting a guy that's like dramatically better
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: than the other guys, um, that says something.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: So Tetsumi Southpaw, he looks like a surgeon.
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: Really, really fast jab.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: It's fast jab and he likes to pivot out right and he likes to touch the body.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: So he's jab, turn.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: I'm curious if he goes jab, pivot to the right, touch the body, right?
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: And then I'm expecting him every now and then to do that step over and shoot
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: a straight left hand.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: Yep, he just did it right there.
- 54:33SPEAKER_00: So it's like he's working his way He's going towards one side of your body,
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: but then he's really opening it up another.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: I think if he goes vice versa, he'll probably go jab, left hand, and he's really opening it up.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, he went jab, left uppercut.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: This guy's really good because what he's doing or what I'm seeing is he's running
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: a system on you.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: I'm seeing in real time.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: The guy he's fighting is a good fighter and he's a capable fighter.
- 55:04SPEAKER_00: But he's not necessarily running a gauntlet or a system on you.
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: This guy is running Tetris on you where not just is he a physically fit fighter
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: and stuff, he's presenting problems and wanting specific answers.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: And these are tricky, tricky guys to face.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: And he's looking for what causes discomfort and he's looking for it in terms
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: of punch selection, in terms of footwork, in terms of hand speed.
- 55:31SPEAKER_00: He's looking at your reactions to set up big punches.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: So this is a really elite guy.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: We'll see if he has,
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: because there's intangibles that you have to find out at the next level,
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: but that's a real top-notch guy.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: Otto Wallin versus Vladimir Serink.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: Let me type this.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm familiar with Otto Wallin and
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: obviously Vladimir
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: Sarenko, meet Solomon, daiquiris.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is just going to be an ugly fight.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: So Rinko just comes forward.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: He's got a bit of a motor.
- 56:26SPEAKER_00: He doesn't move his head.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: He has some shtick where he kind of tries to either jabs with you
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: or he uses his hands to fight to kind of slow you down.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: And then he just wants to get on the inside and throw punches.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: Otto Wallin can punch a little bit, but his favorite thing to do is move and turn.
- 56:41SPEAKER_00: And he likes to do it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: I feel like, yeah, they did fight.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: They fought months ago and...
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: Otto Wallin was winning the whole fight and then got knocked out in the final round.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: So, okay.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: So probably an old one.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: Look out for Divine Omoser making his debut on the Smith Puello card.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: Let me watch this.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: Divine Omoser.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: Out of the blue corner.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: Like his wiggle.
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: Ooh, this guy's good.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: Straight right hand.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: He went boom, touches with the jab.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: What I like about Divine is, ooh, this guy's good.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: He's good because the jab, he gets that jab out.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: He's got that left hook.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: This is what I'm talking about.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm in a better mood this morning, but that's, he's running the gauntlet.
- 57:37SPEAKER_00: I don't like that right hand he throws.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: I'd like it to be a little bit more straight down,
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: not to be the broadcaster that talks about things.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: But when you do film study, you can criticize.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: If you're broadcasting, you can't.
- 57:47SPEAKER_00: I'd prefer if you just shot it straight down the middle.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: Instead of a hooking, throwing some rocks punch, but then he lands it.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: He has reflexes.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: He has skill.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: He has ability.
- 58:00SPEAKER_00: This is a guy to watch for.
- 58:03SPEAKER_00: This is something he's really good.
- 58:06SPEAKER_00: Exciting.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: I have a new guy to add to my spreadsheet.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Price Taylor versus Ketelle?
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: Tatsuni Rogova.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: Is this the guy, Coach Wally Ngusin?
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's with him.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: Price Taylor, pretty familiar with his career.
- 58:24SPEAKER_00: Probably done as many interviews with Price as, I mean, most media outlets.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: My issue with Price is...
- 58:32SPEAKER_00: His temperament in the ring.
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: He's a nice guy.
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: He's a friendly guy.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: And sometimes it comes off as he's too nice.
- 58:38SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it comes off as he's too lazy in the ring.
- 58:42SPEAKER_00: His side against Robert Sims absolutely pissed me off
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: because it felt like he should have done better.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: When he fights to the best of his abilities, I see a lot of talent with him.
- 58:53SPEAKER_00: But it's like he's a guy...
- 58:55SPEAKER_00: Who really needs to have a high work rate and motor.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: And at times he just enjoys.
- 59:03SPEAKER_00: He enjoys in developmental fights dictating the pace.
- 59:08SPEAKER_00: He doesn't seem to have an ego about having a slow fight or a bad fight.
- 59:13SPEAKER_00: I want to see more urgency and I want to see him work.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: I think he's a good body puncher.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: I think his punch selection is good.
- 59:22SPEAKER_00: It's just the punch rate.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: And I think there's sometimes a level of arrogance and cockiness that comes with him
- 59:28SPEAKER_00: that I think is tough, right?
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: And on this fight, I'm watching him and he's doing the ollie shuffle.
- 59:36SPEAKER_00: He's showboating and stuff.
- 59:39SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I don't know.
- 59:44SPEAKER_00: Price is somewhat, this is going to be a big fight for Price because
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: He's a guy that, you know, he's one of the better U.S. prospects right now.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: And when you get to that next level, the U.S. guys aren't handling it very well, right?
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: So, yeah.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, Rogva.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, so let's see.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: He's fighting Alexander Flores, who I believe is signed to the same promoter.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, this should be a... Price has a lot of advantages.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_00: The thing I see about Rogova is he's kind of slow, right?
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_00: And he's doing this thing in this fight where he's tapping his trunks like a tick.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe they're a little too big.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: But he's a guy that Price is going to love to be in the ring with where it's just...
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: It's a good test for Price because I believe Rogova...
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_00: was an Olympian or just about an Olympian and he has power and he's able to punch
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: and he's physically bigger.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: I think the thing I like about this fight the most is,
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: uh, Rogova is a, is a world-class size heavyweight.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_00: And the problem with a lot of American heavyweights is we get to a certain level,
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: uh, with our fighters.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_00: And then it's like, whoops, whoops, what do we do now?
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_00: In terms of like, you know, I haven't fought a six foot six guy yet.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: So, okay.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: Dion Nicholson against Atif Olberton Nicholson.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: Decent fighter.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: I think he's a guy that has some ability.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_00: You know, he's got that wiggle.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_00: He kind of reminds me of a fighter that no one's going to really remember,
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: but a guy named Chris Singleton.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: It was coming out of the South and,
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: he had some style to him,
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: but You know,
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_00: it just feels like Nicholson can jab a little bit,
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_00: but it doesn't seem like the punches are going to come in combination.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_00: And the issue is Atif Olberton is a dog.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: He's going to walk you down.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_00: And I think this is a temperament fight.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: Atif Olberton is coming forward.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_00: He's going to put pressure and he's going to look to hit your body.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Nicholson's temperament is to try to box and move even with guys who,
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_00: Maybe aren't the biggest punchers,
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: and he's found himself in tougher fights because of his temperament
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: and allowing guys to get into the fight.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_00: I think this is a fight where Olberton is just going to walk through his power,
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: and when you allow Olberton to walk through your power,
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: it's all good for nobody, or at least it's not good for his opponent.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: Atif Olberton is one of the more promising prospects in the sport.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: And what I like about him is it's a combination of work rate.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: It's a combination of boxing ability, distance.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: And he looks to beat guys up.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: He's beating guys up on the inside and pretty good step up,
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: because this is going to be Nicholson's going to,
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: he can say what he wants to say,
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: but he's probably going to be looking to move a lot.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: Can you preview Ciro Choi versus Kisham Lucky Sun Singh?
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_00: Sure, we'll do it.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: Gotcha, bro.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, so...
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, there's Lucky.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: Lot of waiting.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: Lucky Sun Sing is...
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: A solid fighter, I can already tell.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_00: Good combination punching.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_00: He's like a good mid-level veteran.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_00: He's able to punch in combination.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_00: He's coming to win.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: He's got his shtick.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_00: He's got a good pro physique.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_00: He's sitting on a right hand is the thing I'm noticing.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: He can freeze you, but the thing is, his natural inclination is to be a counterpuncher.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: So he's waiting to counterpunch with you rather than initiating with a jab.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: And then he kind of like jabs once and hopes you come in and throws a hard right hand.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_00: Let's see how this fight progresses.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: Does he just sit around and wait all the time?
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: So the problem with him is if you put him in with a guy who knows how to play tag,
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: he's going to be just sitting and waiting because he's waiting
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_00: for combination punchers and he wants to have a rock'em, sock'em fight.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_00: Let's see what my guy, Ciro Choi, is going to do.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_00: My guess is he's going to be a mover, and this is... Is he the guy that beat Giovanni Cabrera?
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_00: He is.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: So, this is probably going to be...
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_00: Man, shout out my guy Giovanni Cabrera being sponsored by Morton Steakhouse.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_00: That's a good sponsor.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_00: I think that's him, or is that... No, that's... Choi is sponsored by Morton Steakhouse.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_00: That's a sick sponsor.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: Like that.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_00: Okay, so Giovanni Cabrera.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_00: Cabrera doesn't look as in shape as he did for the Gabe Flores fight.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_00: His punches look slower.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_00: He just doesn't look as...
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_00: He doesn't look the same.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_00: Looks more...
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_00: Looks all over the place.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, the one thing for Choi is he will, these two will appease each other.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_00: The problem is Choi looks like he hits harder and he's got the better shtick.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_00: And I call it the shtick.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_00: Some people call it fight script.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_00: But he has that bivol step back,
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_00: which is the move where he goes a half a step back,
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_00: which is what the good counter punchers do.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_00: They pull back a little bit off the center line.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_00: They take a half a step and then they punch.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_00: And...
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_00: I think he's going to put a right hand behind it.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: So I think he's going to go left and then right hook.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: And that's probably going to be it.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: I remember looking this result up and seeing Cabrera lost and it kind of shocked me.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: Choi's big punch is the right hook.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_00: And you see it in the highlights as he's looking to land that right hook multiple times.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_00: So that's something worth noting.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_00: Big right hook guy.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_00: Big right hook.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: See the knockout.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_00: Other thing about this is it's just,
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_00: to me, it's so noticeable that Giovanni Cabrera is not in the same shape.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_00: And it's not that he's in bad shape,
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_00: but it's just like he looks, he just doesn't look the same guy from a few years ago.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_00: And it just stands out to me because I know Gabe Flores so well that I remember that.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_00: it's like he's choosing to trade and stand with a guy
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_00: because I feel like this may be just the emotion of me,
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_00: but I'm saying that it seems like,
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_00: you know, that maybe you don't trust the legs, you know, so you have to exchange.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: I'm having fun watching this one.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_00: Lead right hook, lays him out.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_00: He goes straight out.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_00: Probably a knockout win.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_00: Interesting fighter.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure how good he is, but interesting fighter to watch.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_00: Did I get everything?
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: I did.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we got all the questions this week.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_00: Thank you to everyone that sent questions in.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_00: That is your once a week podcast.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_00: If you made it this far, I want to say thank you.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_00: And also,
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: Send me more questions in and then I can,
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_00: you know, maybe answer some philosophical questions.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_00: What did I get right or wrong?
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_00: Let me know in the comments.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you guys.
