- 0:21Speaker 3: Enjoy the show!
- 0:34Speaker 4: This is Courtney Gaines, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:39Speaker 5: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I thought I'd go out and skate after this.
- 0:45Speaker 5: Very well, dear.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Mighty awful event.
- 1:04Speaker 3: At the Fern School this morning, huh, Miss Penmore? Yes, Leroy,
- 1:07Speaker 3: it was very sad.
- 1:09Speaker 2: They say when they find that little boy... Yes, Miss Penmore.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Now, Rhoda, you're behaving very well, dear, but still it's
- 1:21Speaker 1: a terrible thing to see and remember.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I understand how.
- 1:28Speaker 4: You feel, darling.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I don't know what you're talking about. I don't feel
- 1:34Speaker 3: any way at all. Have you been naughty?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Why no, mother.
- 1:53Speaker 3: What will you give me for a basket of kisses?
- 1:59Speaker 6: I'll give you a basket of hugs.
- 2:03Speaker 5: I'm the biggest nightmare.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I'm your sweetest sin.
- 2:06Speaker 7: I'm the fear of losing.
- 2:08Speaker 4: I'm the voice from deep within.
- 2:09Speaker 5: I'm the black sun rising.
- 2:27Speaker 8: Of self-destruction on the better end when the pill you
- 2:31Speaker 8: swallow and.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Your reason to.
- 2:35Speaker 8: Cry are great by war on murder.
- 2:39Speaker 5: On the dead you die.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Welcome to Moving Up Down the Sofa Theater. Once again,
- 3:12Speaker 4: I am Brian.
- 3:12Speaker 2: This is Roger Yoon.
- 3:14Speaker 6: I am still Misty.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I'm still Marlena.
- 3:17Speaker 4: And we lost Jay.
- 3:19Speaker 6: The third dimension pulled him back in.
- 3:21Speaker 2: He thought he could escape.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Yeah, there's no escape.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It's like opening the Hellraiser box and always falling to you.
- 3:27Speaker 6: He's picking up his parents, so it's kind of the
- 3:28Speaker 6: same thing.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Okay, you said that one. No, I'm joking.
- 3:33Speaker 6: I love his mom.
- 3:36Speaker 4: It's only because she makes you egg rolls.
- 3:37Speaker 6: She makes the best egg rolls in the world.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I love his mom for her egg rolls.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Doesn't she make the best egg rolls?
- 3:42Speaker 3: I haven't eaten her egg rolls since last Halloween.
- 3:47Speaker 6: We have some that are still in our freezer from
- 3:49Speaker 6: his birthday.
- 3:50Speaker 9: Okay.
- 3:52Speaker 6: That was in June.
- 3:52Speaker 2: They keep well, though.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 10: Obviously.
- 3:57Speaker 3: It's deep brown.
- 3:59Speaker 4: All right. This week's Sofa Theater feature is The Bad Seed.
- 4:03Speaker 4: The year is 1956. Director... I'm still trying to figure
- 4:07Speaker 4: this one out. M-E-R-V-Y-N?
- 4:10Speaker 5: Mervyn?
- 4:10Speaker 9: Mervyn?
- 4:12Speaker 4: Is that right? Sounds good to me.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Okay. Mervyn.
- 4:13Speaker 4: I can't imagine what else it would be. Mervyn LeRoy. LeRoy?
- 4:18Speaker 4: The plot... LeRoy?
- 4:20Speaker 2: LeRoy or LeRoy?
- 4:21Speaker 3: LeRoy.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Depends on who says it. It's like the jewelers, you know.
- 4:26Speaker 4: If it's high class, it's Leroy. If it's, you know,
- 4:28Speaker 4: down in the ghetto, it's Leroy. The plot, according to IMDb,
- 4:35Speaker 4: is an ideal housewife begins to suspect her loving adolescent
- 4:38Speaker 4: daughter may be a heartless killer. So, spoiler alert, because
- 4:43Speaker 4: we're going to tell you what they told us at
- 4:46Speaker 4: the end that we're not supposed to. At the end
- 4:47Speaker 4: of the movie, they give you a big warning to not...
- 4:50Speaker 4: reveal the special magical ending here and, you know, we're
- 4:54Speaker 4: going to ignore that like we always do. And then
- 4:56Speaker 4: double spoiler alert because we're also going to tell you
- 4:58Speaker 4: how the book ends. So, you know, if you're one of.
- 5:01Speaker 6: All the kinds of differences in the books.
- 5:02Speaker 4: If you're one of them readers, we're going to ruin
- 5:04Speaker 4: that for you too.
- 5:05Speaker 6: I read the book and there weren't even no words
- 5:07Speaker 6: in there. Or the features in there. I don't even know.
- 5:11Speaker 4: That's called a notebook, Misty.
- 5:14Speaker 9: I meant to say there weren't no pictures.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I'm retarded.
- 5:17Speaker 1: What do you want?
- 5:18Speaker 4: You're hanging out in the school supply aisle again. These
- 5:21Speaker 4: books don't have no words.
- 5:22Speaker 2: What the hell?
- 5:24Speaker 4: I wrote the short bus here.
- 5:26Speaker 6: What do you want?
- 5:28Speaker 4: Oh, all right.
- 5:31Speaker 9: Oh, like y'all never said anything that was hard.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I remember once we got to an argument over, like, the...
- 5:39Speaker 3: like collective and elective Indiana versus Kentucky. And your argument was,
- 5:42Speaker 3: what was it?
- 5:46Speaker 9: Kentucky has the lowest readability rate.
- 5:49Speaker 6: And that was what it was. It's still correct.
- 5:54Speaker 4: The sad part is I think that was on the show.
- 5:57Speaker 9: What?
- 5:57Speaker 4: I think we have that documented, don't we?
- 5:59Speaker 3: No, this was a long time ago. I have the
- 6:01Speaker 3: lowest reading ability, Rich.
- 6:04Speaker 6: I couldn't think of the word literacy.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Wow.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Kentucky's got the lowest reading ability out of all the states.
- 6:11Speaker 6: They do.
- 6:13Speaker 9: I'd rather be able to not say that properly than
- 6:16Speaker 9: to actually be in Kentucky.
- 6:17Speaker 6: And not be able to read or wear shoes.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 6:22Speaker 6: I'm fucking with you.
- 6:24Speaker 7: All right.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Speaking of shoes with metal death plates on them, where
- 6:28Speaker 4: would you like to begin with us?
- 6:30Speaker 6: It gives a pain in the ass.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Start at the beginning.
- 6:34Speaker 4: All right.
- 6:36Speaker 3: She reminds me of someone I know named Sam.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Just someone? Yeah. You don't know who, but I'm pretty
- 6:43Speaker 4: sure their name is Sam.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Someone specific I know named Sam.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 6:47Speaker 6: I can't place it, but yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 3: She reminds me of that girl.
- 6:51Speaker 9: I'm just going to prove my theory that all kids
- 6:53Speaker 9: are just fucking evil and should be sleeping peeled to death.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Civilization would end.
- 6:59Speaker 6: That's all good. We wouldn't be missing much.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Sometimes I agree with you.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah, sometimes. Well, it's like the beginning. You could already
- 7:09Speaker 2: tell from just the beginning of the movie that this
- 7:13Speaker 2: kid is bad. I mean, because she's overly sweet, overly saccharine, gorgeous, perfect, whatever.
- 7:21Speaker 2: But instantly you're like, well, the movie's called The Bad Seed,
- 7:24Speaker 2: so in the first five seconds you already know what's
- 7:26Speaker 2: going on.
- 7:26Speaker 4: You're like, oh, there she is.
- 7:28Speaker 2: There's no ruining of anything. There's no mystery. There's no
- 7:31Speaker 2: spoiler alert, really, unless you're a complete dullard and you're like, wait,
- 7:35Speaker 2: she is perfect and beautiful. She'd never do something like that.
- 7:39Speaker 4: That could happen.
- 7:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 4: They're just stringing you along for the first six hours.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Of this movie. Yeah, right.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Which, the movie is six hours.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Shit.
- 7:47Speaker 6: It didn't take me that long to fucking read the book.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Went on forever.
- 7:51Speaker 6: Yeah, they could have used some editing, in my opinion.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Yeah, pacing is definitely an issue. Again, it's still impressive
- 8:01Speaker 4: in what it does, but yeah, pacing. It's wordy. It's
- 8:05Speaker 4: very monologue-driven on occasion, dialogue-driven definitely.
- 8:09Speaker 6: Leroy and his crazy ass rants to himself.
- 8:12Speaker 4: I don't know at all Monica Breedlove.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I don't think nobody knows anything but her.
- 8:19Speaker 3: She ain't got long to go anyway.
- 8:22Speaker 11: Old Heifer's about ready for the canners.
- 8:27Speaker 1: But that young trough fed Ms. Penmark. She might get
- 8:32Speaker 1: kind of lonesome with.
- 8:33Speaker 4: That soldier boy who has gone.
- 8:36Speaker 11: Yes, sir, she might.
- 8:39Speaker 4: That Rhoda's a real smart one.
- 8:42Speaker 1: That's a smart little gal. She's almost as smart as
- 8:46Speaker 1: I am.
- 8:48Speaker 12: She sees through me, and I see through her.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Swallow me a frog, but she's smart, huh? But they're
- 8:57Speaker 4: not to himself. Because, I mean, I don't know, do
- 8:59Speaker 4: you know that much about this? Because it's all, it
- 9:02Speaker 4: definitely plays in when at the very end, you know,
- 9:04Speaker 4: once we've gotten past the crazy spoiler area, we have
- 9:07Speaker 4: the callback of the cast.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it almost seems like they didn't adapt the play
- 9:11Speaker 3: very much.
- 9:12Speaker 4: It basically is the play. The reason the cast is
- 9:15Speaker 4: who they are, that is the actual Broadway cast. They
- 9:18Speaker 4: completely transferred them over and then made it into a movie.
- 9:22Speaker 4: So it really.
- 9:23Speaker 9: Which is why at some points it does seem overdramatic
- 9:25Speaker 9: because that's how plays usually are.
- 9:26Speaker 6: They have that overdramatic.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Which is why I don't like plays. The monologues and
- 9:30Speaker 4: things like that. And Leroy's talking to the audience. Yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 4: He's out there explaining things about the character to the audience.
- 9:37Speaker 4: But yeah, it's like they didn't re-adapt that to a
- 9:40Speaker 4: movie form where you could work it into dialogue. He
- 9:43Speaker 4: just looks like a crazy person because he's out there
- 9:45Speaker 4: rambling to a bush. Seriously.
- 9:48Speaker 9: But yeah, they changed so much stuff from the book.
- 9:51Speaker 9: I mean, in the book, the dad, Bad Seed's dad,
- 9:56Speaker 9: he's not in the book. It's rarely, rarely, until like
- 9:58Speaker 9: the very end. I mean, there's... does have a dad
- 10:01Speaker 9: though yeah the little girl has a dad and i
- 10:03Speaker 9: think all the correspondence you get is just him writing
- 10:07Speaker 9: letters to the mom there's never any interaction with him
- 10:09Speaker 9: and the daughter.
- 10:10Speaker 6: In the movie and it's just that you don't see
- 10:12Speaker 6: his character to the end of.
- 10:13Speaker 4: The book You know, they're most, I mean, yeah, they
- 10:16Speaker 4: ship him off in the first scene, so.
- 10:18Speaker 6: But he's still a little bit more there. They talk
- 10:20Speaker 6: on the phone. There's more interaction. But yeah, in the book,
- 10:23Speaker 6: that's not so much.
- 10:23Speaker 9: It's more of a dad than Christine has in the
- 10:27Speaker 9: book because in the book, he's fucking dead for years.
- 10:29Speaker 6: I think cancer got his ass.
- 10:33Speaker 9: I guess it makes it easier for them to explain
- 10:35Speaker 9: her whole motherhood situation faster because in the book, she
- 10:38Speaker 9: has to go through all this research and reading all
- 10:40Speaker 9: the stories that he wrote.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Was there microfiche involved?
- 10:44Speaker 6: No, I think this was before microfiche. I don't remember.
- 10:47Speaker 4: I was reminiscing about microfiche a couple of weeks ago.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Microfiche.
- 10:50Speaker 2: What is it?
- 10:51Speaker 4: It's pre-internet.
- 10:53Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Pre-computer, the only way to store a lot of it,
- 10:56Speaker 4: the little images on the transfers, I guess. It's some
- 11:00Speaker 4: sort of file.
- 11:01Speaker 6: You see it in movies all the time. Like in
- 11:02Speaker 6: the newspaper thing?
- 11:03Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Like when people are going through the newspapers?
- 11:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I'm familiar with that, but I just didn't know that
- 11:08Speaker 3: it was called microfiche.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Microfiche.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Very timely. interface trying to turn the damn knobs and
- 11:13Speaker 2: like get it to where you.
- 11:14Speaker 14: Want to and then enlarge yeah yeah but in the
- 11:17Speaker 14: book she's gonna do all this research and read and
- 11:18Speaker 14: i guess they just figured they didn't want to go
- 11:19Speaker 14: through all that bullshit so like oh we'll make her
- 11:21Speaker 14: dead mysteriously alive again so whatever it's good for him.
- 11:25Speaker 3: It would have just made the movie a lot longer
- 11:27Speaker 3: yeah do.
- 11:27Speaker 4: You want that do you want montage scenes any longer
- 11:29Speaker 4: would have been just it's already long enough for him
- 11:32Speaker 4: to have like 48 drinks a piece is that one
- 11:34Speaker 4: thing I mean Jesus Christ there's a whole lot of
- 11:36Speaker 4: drinking in this movie especially if I what's.
- 11:37Speaker 9: Her lady the dead kid's mom holy.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Shit yeah I figure we're gonna have to devote a
- 11:43Speaker 4: whole little section to her so okay go to town
- 11:46Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 11:46Speaker 6: Should we start why she's upset in the first.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Place I guess we.
- 11:50Speaker 9: Should break it down for those that uh or whatever
- 11:52Speaker 9: aren't in the know yeah Well, apparently the school gives
- 11:57Speaker 9: out medals for penmanship, which is just fucking retarded in
- 12:00Speaker 9: the first place. So whichever kid's handwriting improves the best
- 12:04Speaker 9: over the, at least in the book, it was over
- 12:07Speaker 9: a certain amount of time, or it's not, whatever. But anyways,
- 12:10Speaker 9: the little boy wins it, and the little girl, she
- 12:12Speaker 9: has a goddamn fit.
- 12:14Speaker 4: She does.
- 12:14Speaker 9: Screaming, tantrum having, and anyways, she eventually gets her medal.
- 12:19Speaker 6: She didn't win her medal, but she stole it from
- 12:21Speaker 6: the dead kid party.
- 12:22Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 12:23Speaker 6: I probably shouldn't do the description. I don't know what
- 12:25Speaker 6: the hell I'm talking about.
- 12:26Speaker 4: You just watched the movie.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I know.
- 12:28Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure you know it.
- 12:29Speaker 6: I'm tired and cold. But anyways, the mom's not too happy.
- 12:34Speaker 6: And she's drunk.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Is it time I was drunk?
- 12:37Speaker 6: I might expect to call myself.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Is it time to call out the patrol wagon?
- 12:42Speaker 1: No, no.
- 12:43Speaker 3: You heard what I said. I said only that you
- 12:45Speaker 3: were here. Your husband.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It was at the drugstore at the corner.
- 12:49Speaker 6: I was only going to hold her in my arms
- 12:51Speaker 6: and ask her a few simple questions.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Well, perhaps another time would be better.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Oh, you think because I'm lit?
- 12:56Speaker 6: Well, I'm not lit in the slightest degree.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Rhoda knows more than she's told of you.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Don't mind me being presumptuous.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I had a long talk with that guard since I
- 13:01Speaker 3: saw you last.
- 13:02Speaker 6: And it was a long, interesting conversation.
- 13:04Speaker 8: He said he saw Rhoda on the pier just.
- 13:06Speaker 6: Before Claude was found among the pilings.
- 13:09Speaker 4: She knows something, all right. Oh, I know what you're thinking.
- 13:13Speaker 4: You're thinking, how can I get rid of this pest?
- 13:16Speaker 2: It turns into this weird class thing that she's explaining about,
- 13:20Speaker 2: you know. Repeatedly. Repeatedly over and over again. She doesn't
- 13:24Speaker 2: so much get invited into this woman's apartment as just
- 13:27Speaker 2: kind of comes in.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Well, everybody seems to do that. Her landlady, the guy
- 13:32Speaker 4: working in the yard, they all just walk into her
- 13:34Speaker 4: damn house.
- 13:35Speaker 3: The only one who, like, waited for her to open
- 13:37Speaker 3: the door was her father.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Yeah, right? It's sad.
- 13:39Speaker 2: But just her storming in, you know, and she's completely belligerent.
- 13:43Speaker 6: As most drunks usually are.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Which is true. She plays a good drunk, but she's annoying, like,
- 13:48Speaker 2: How she would smack her lips after everything she'd say. Oh, God,
- 13:52Speaker 2: it was, like, annoying as shit.
- 13:53Speaker 6: She was the total actress I could ever see.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Oh, she's terrible. Her character reminded me of Carol... Burnett?
- 14:01Speaker 3: Carol Burnett.
- 14:02Speaker 4: She kind of looks like Carol Burnett, yeah.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Like, when Carol Burnett's being her most annoying character.
- 14:06Speaker 4: The thing is, even at Ridiculous, Carol Burnett, she's still
- 14:09Speaker 4: a massively better actress than this woman. But this is
- 14:12Speaker 4: the really sad part. Now, I realized... I knew... What's
- 14:17Speaker 4: the kid's name?
- 14:18Speaker 6: Patty something patty mccormick.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Yeah patty mccormick the little kid i knew um she
- 14:23Speaker 4: got nominated for an oscar for this role that's that's
- 14:26Speaker 4: really fitting i mean i think the little kid did
- 14:28Speaker 4: a good job the mother also got nominated for lead
- 14:31Speaker 4: actress she got it lead versus the kid the one
- 14:34Speaker 4: that frightens me is that that woman also got nominated
- 14:37Speaker 4: for best supporting actress what the fucking drunk eileen heckard
- 14:42Speaker 4: movies yeah i'm like i understand in 1956 i.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Mean hollywood's all a sham anyways and damn awards yeah
- 14:48Speaker 2: but usually not that bad i mean there's a lot
- 14:51Speaker 2: of you know differences in acting style and you know
- 14:54Speaker 2: 1956 versus now.
- 14:55Speaker 4: But still there's a level where bad acting is just
- 14:58Speaker 4: bad acting.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Might have just been it might have been because of
- 15:01Speaker 2: subject matter too maybe you.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Know maybe this is one of the first times they
- 15:04Speaker 4: were like addressing drinking you know maybe it was something
- 15:07Speaker 4: a little more politically based that like This was one
- 15:10Speaker 4: of the first things that really brought it out. I
- 15:13Speaker 4: doubt that. It seems pretty late for that. But yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 4: the drinking part, it was so badly pieced together.
- 15:20Speaker 14: It was hilarious.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Yeah, it was laughable, but it didn't fit in the
- 15:22Speaker 4: rest of this movie because there are no comedy moments
- 15:26Speaker 4: anywhere in this. It seemed... oddly out of place because
- 15:29Speaker 4: you couldn't help but kind of.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Laugh at the fact that she came back the second
- 15:33Speaker 2: time it's like what you again for the same scene
- 15:36Speaker 2: basically the same yeah the exact same to see.
- 15:38Speaker 4: The same bullshit that she went through the last time
- 15:40Speaker 4: which was hard enough for us to get through but
- 15:42Speaker 4: god jiminy.
- 15:44Speaker 9: Well in the book i mean the first the first
- 15:46Speaker 9: two times that they had interaction the christine went and
- 15:49Speaker 9: saw the woman she went to her house yeah So,
- 15:53Speaker 9: I mean, I guess they were, they don't have another
- 15:55Speaker 9: set or something.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Well, again, it does very much feel like a play
- 15:59Speaker 4: because they don't really leave that. I mean, you get
- 16:02Speaker 4: shots of like him in his office or the hospital later,
- 16:05Speaker 4: but it's like, for the most part, it all takes
- 16:07Speaker 4: place in that apartment or outside the front of that apartment.
- 16:10Speaker 4: You know, there's the one cutaway to the picnic thing,
- 16:13Speaker 4: you know, here and there, that kind of stuff. But
- 16:15Speaker 4: the majority of it, it very easily got translated over
- 16:18Speaker 4: from play to screen and And as far as direction,
- 16:21Speaker 4: not much difference either. I mean, the director actually did
- 16:25Speaker 4: a lot of stuff. Like, he did a ton of
- 16:27Speaker 4: really huge, you know, big-budget movies for that time period,
- 16:31Speaker 4: all through, like, 40s, 50s. I think even a few
- 16:33Speaker 4: years after that, he kept doing stuff. But, I don't know,
- 16:37Speaker 4: nothing impressive, as far as I can say. It felt very, like...
- 16:41Speaker 4: And again, this was just the dawning age of TV drama,
- 16:44Speaker 4: but it felt very TV for that time period. It
- 16:46Speaker 4: felt very, you know, the static shots of just the room,
- 16:50Speaker 4: and he would just sort of follow them back and forth.
- 16:52Speaker 4: But it never seemed like it did anything massively visually creative.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I mean, he kept it together, I.
- 16:58Speaker 7: Guess, but.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I was hoping for a little more just direction-wise, visually.
- 17:02Speaker 6: I was hoping for more editing.
- 17:04Speaker 4: That too.
- 17:05Speaker 6: It just drug on forever. That's my complaint. It was forever.
- 17:11Speaker 6: And the mom, I guess because I read the book,
- 17:12Speaker 6: I'm just kind of a pissy bitch.
- 17:13Speaker 9: She's not what I pictured in the book, so I'm
- 17:15Speaker 9: kind of like, I'm not happy with her because in
- 17:18Speaker 9: the book she's younger, she's prettier.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 17:22Speaker 4: I thought the actress did a good job with it.
- 17:25Speaker 4: The only thing with her is, again, not really an
- 17:27Speaker 4: official acting complaint. She's got such a raspy voice. It, like,
- 17:32Speaker 4: gives out, like, halfway into almost every sentence. It does
- 17:35Speaker 4: that weird little thing. Especially when she's screaming. And, yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 4: by the time she's, like, hysterical towards the end of
- 17:40Speaker 4: the movie, she's just, yeah, you're lucky to make out
- 17:42Speaker 4: what she's saying. So she just had kind of an
- 17:45Speaker 4: odd voice. But, I mean, performance-wise, I thought, you know...
- 17:48Speaker 4: She wasn't bad. Again, I didn't read the book, so
- 17:50Speaker 4: I don't know the difference between characters, but I thought performance...
- 17:54Speaker 4: Her and the little girl, and I guess the upstairs
- 17:57Speaker 4: neighbor lady, she was annoying, but she played it very realistic.
- 18:01Speaker 4: In the book, she.
- 18:02Speaker 9: Plays the overbearing, always there, getting all on your business
- 18:06Speaker 9: kind of lady.
- 18:07Speaker 6: She's always there.
- 18:08Speaker 4: So to me, she should have been the other one nominated,
- 18:11Speaker 4: not the crazy drunk. No, not at all.
- 18:13Speaker 9: I like LeRoy.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 18:14Speaker 2: LeRoy is awesome.
- 18:16Speaker 9: That's another thing that's different than the book. In the book,
- 18:18Speaker 9: he definitely has more of a perverse thing about the
- 18:21Speaker 9: whole thing. He's like, Oh, dear, the things I do
- 18:24Speaker 9: to her mother, and just dirty and just creepy.
- 18:27Speaker 3: He kind of said that at first, but then he
- 18:28Speaker 3: did it.
- 18:29Speaker 2: He did the capitalizing, yeah.
- 18:31Speaker 9: It gets further, and he has this obsession with it.
- 18:33Speaker 9: It gets to the point where it's all he can
- 18:34Speaker 9: think about is the kid.
- 18:36Speaker 2: The kid, see?
- 18:37Speaker 4: I mean, you get a little vibe, because I remember
- 18:39Speaker 4: the first time watching it, I was like, I got
- 18:41Speaker 4: a real pervy vibe from him that very first time,
- 18:44Speaker 4: just where he's running into her in the living room.
- 18:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:46Speaker 4: But in the book.
- 18:47Speaker 9: It's definitely a scene where he goes back to his
- 18:50Speaker 9: family and is talking to his wife, and that's all
- 18:51Speaker 9: he can talk about is this kid. Oh, God.
- 18:53Speaker 4: You know, how he.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I want a divorce.
- 18:57Speaker 12: Jesus.
- 18:58Speaker 4: I want to marry this 10-year-old. Eight-year-old.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Jesus.
- 19:02Speaker 5: God.
- 19:03Speaker 2: One always made me think about in the movie, like,
- 19:05Speaker 2: what Leroy did, if he's like, you know... I'm smart
- 19:09Speaker 2: like you're smart and people don't know.
- 19:11Speaker 4: And I'm like did he do things I always get
- 19:13Speaker 4: away with it yeah they're.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Like people buried in like lakes which have a graze
- 19:17Speaker 2: because of you or I don't know I mean I
- 19:20Speaker 2: got the but that's kind of the charm of Leroy
- 19:22Speaker 2: that I liked.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Well I think it's again it's it changes midway through
- 19:27Speaker 4: yeah because in the beginning he does come off really
- 19:29Speaker 4: creepy and you assume that he's Especially now, because we
- 19:33Speaker 4: know how pervy people are. I guess in the 50s,
- 19:35Speaker 4: maybe they were a little more wide-eyed about it, but
- 19:37Speaker 4: I'm just looking at him going, okay, don't let that
- 19:39Speaker 4: guy near your dog, is what I'm thinking. But as
- 19:42Speaker 4: it goes on, it really does switch, and he becomes
- 19:45Speaker 4: sort of like victimized by this little girl And what's
- 19:48Speaker 4: really funny, especially for his character, is in the middle there,
- 19:52Speaker 4: that mid portion where in the beginning he just seems creepy.
- 19:55Speaker 4: And then by the end, it's all transpires. But in
- 19:57Speaker 4: the middle, I'm just watching him. I'm like, this is
- 20:00Speaker 4: so sad for you, buddy, because you have nothing to
- 20:02Speaker 4: do but mess with an eight year old all day long.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Like in the middle, he's just like fucking with her.
- 20:08Speaker 4: I'm like, don't you have anything to do? Mess with
- 20:10Speaker 4: a small child?
- 20:12Speaker 9: In the book, there's a lot of his daydreams about
- 20:13Speaker 9: what he would do to the mother in his little
- 20:16Speaker 9: basement room there.
- 20:18Speaker 2: His little bed, his little makeshift, what would they call it?
- 20:22Speaker 6: Excelsior.
- 20:23Speaker 12: Excelsior, yeah.
- 20:23Speaker 3: That's such a strange name for, like, packing stuff.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I'm like, isn't that a superhero's name?
- 20:27Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Somebody say that? Like, Excelsior.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Yeah, isn't that a.
- 20:32Speaker 6: I kept thinking seltzer water.
- 20:36Speaker 4: It's one of the Stan Lee guys, because he's always
- 20:39Speaker 4: using that one.
- 20:40Speaker 9: Oh well yeah he's definitely a pervy man in the
- 20:42Speaker 9: book and it carries over a little bit in the
- 20:45Speaker 9: movie but not quite as detailed as creepy as he.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Is in the book well there's a little more like
- 20:49Speaker 4: the the misker task guy that one little section where
- 20:53Speaker 4: he runs into the girl there's a very pervy little
- 20:56Speaker 4: moment there where he's just looking at her and he
- 20:58Speaker 4: touches her hair just like what what's going on here
- 21:02Speaker 4: yeah i don't remember that in the book i'm not
- 21:04Speaker 4: sure what they're putting out there like was that just
- 21:07Speaker 4: standard operating procedure like did people just get that weird
- 21:10Speaker 4: and hands-on with kids i know i was like i'm
- 21:13Speaker 4: trying to decide if it's something different in a time
- 21:16Speaker 4: or is it something that they were putting in there
- 21:18Speaker 4: that these were kind of creepy but but otherwise he
- 21:20Speaker 4: wasn't played as a creepy character the rest of his
- 21:22Speaker 4: character was a very normal kind of helpful to the
- 21:25Speaker 4: plot explaining things kind of character so why did they
- 21:28Speaker 4: bother to give him.
- 21:28Speaker 2: They just wanted to give him that extra layer of
- 21:31Speaker 2: creep so this guy is you know Do not trust him.
- 21:34Speaker 2: He's distrustful. He's a creep. It's like, yeah, we got that.
- 21:37Speaker 2: We didn't need the extra. It's just something that, I
- 21:40Speaker 2: don't know, maybe they just didn't, they wanted to flush
- 21:42Speaker 2: him out, but they didn't.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Who knows? Yeah, it makes sense with the B-Roy, Leroy. Leroy.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Leroy.
- 21:48Speaker 4: It makes sense with him, but yeah, that guy, it's like,
- 21:51Speaker 4: I don't even know what the point of that like
- 21:52Speaker 4: 10 second little snippet of perviness that they put in there.
- 21:56Speaker 4: And while we're on that, it's again, half the time,
- 21:58Speaker 4: the parents are not helping the matter any. Much like
- 22:01Speaker 4: we said with the Kingdom of the Spiders girl, why
- 22:03Speaker 4: don't you get them a dress that covers their ass?
- 22:05Speaker 2: Yeah, seriously.
- 22:06Speaker 4: I'm sorry, but I'm like, he would pick her up,
- 22:09Speaker 4: and I'm like, for God's sakes, put her down.
- 22:11Speaker 2: We don't need that.
- 22:11Speaker 6: Or she was putting her roller skates on.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Oh, Jesus, yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Or he sprays her with the hose, and she jumps
- 22:16Speaker 4: in the air. I'm like, no, stop, please, for God's sakes.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Grown-up women can wear trashy clothes. We're fine with that,
- 22:23Speaker 4: but don't put 10-year-olds in trashy clothes.
- 22:26Speaker 9: Eight.
- 22:26Speaker 6: You keep wanting to age her a little.
- 22:28Speaker 4: I guess I do.
- 22:30Speaker 6: Does it make it better that she's 10?
- 22:32Speaker 4: No, not really, no.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Like in Lolita, how they made her 16, and in
- 22:38Speaker 3: the book she's really like 12.
- 22:39Speaker 6: Yeah, seriously.
- 22:40Speaker 4: Oh, well, 16, that's fine.
- 22:42Speaker 3: It's like an age of consent in some states.
- 22:45Speaker 4: No, it's terrible.
- 22:46Speaker 6: I mean, like 14 in Kentucky.
- 22:48Speaker 4: I think so.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Give it even more leeway. I don't know.
- 22:52Speaker 4: I'd check the law books, but I ain't got no
- 22:54Speaker 4: reading ability.
- 22:56Speaker 9: Shut up.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Ding dang words.
- 22:59Speaker 9: And then books got no words.
- 23:00Speaker 6: Got troubles. Diagrams, pictures.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Oh, Lord. But I guess for the most part I
- 23:09Speaker 2: enjoyed the movie. You seemed miserable the whole time.
- 23:13Speaker 6: You were sitting there cursing the movie.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Well, you know, just for obvious reasons that I curse
- 23:17Speaker 2: things anyways. But for an older movie I liked it.
- 23:21Speaker 2: The subject matter I thought was always because I do
- 23:24Speaker 2: agree that children are for the most part can be
- 23:27Speaker 2: as evil if not more evil than grown-ups because they're
- 23:31Speaker 2: innocent and don't have you know especially when their brains
- 23:34Speaker 2: are broken when they're born yeah and they don't have
- 23:36Speaker 2: a sense of.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Right and wrong like at all they don't understand boundaries.
- 23:39Speaker 2: There's like something really creepy about that like you know
- 23:42Speaker 2: the kids in general they can do anything and they
- 23:45Speaker 2: don't have you know they don't have this concept of
- 23:49Speaker 2: Like Lord of the Flies. Yeah, exactly. That's really creepy
- 23:54Speaker 2: to me.
- 23:54Speaker 4: They haven't understood any level of penalty involved. They really
- 23:59Speaker 4: are just free to do whatever they want, and what's
- 24:01Speaker 4: going to happen to you?
- 24:01Speaker 2: But your mother didn't help in this situation. I thought
- 24:03Speaker 2: when she found out the truth that she would kind
- 24:05Speaker 2: of be more like... shit like okay no she's like
- 24:09Speaker 2: no really what are we gonna do to cover this
- 24:10Speaker 2: up like burn the shoes like oh come.
- 24:13Speaker 9: On like what would you do if your child was
- 24:15Speaker 9: evil would you turn them over.
- 24:16Speaker 6: If it was your child.
- 24:17Speaker 2: If it was my child i'd definitely have that parental
- 24:20Speaker 2: you know that internal struggle of doing the right thing
- 24:23Speaker 2: number one and being completely devastated because this is my
- 24:27Speaker 2: child this is my seed and it is bad like
- 24:29Speaker 2: i'd feel shitty for myself i'd feel like it was
- 24:32Speaker 2: my fault definitely And especially at that point, it's kind
- 24:35Speaker 2: of like, I don't.
- 24:36Speaker 12: Know who I am.
- 24:36Speaker 6: Is it really your fault?
- 24:38Speaker 2: No, it's not really your fault, especially when it's genetics,
- 24:41Speaker 2: but you have no choice but to feel like it is.
- 24:44Speaker 2: As a parent, definitely. I'm not a parent, so I
- 24:46Speaker 2: can only, you know, conjecture. I don't know what I
- 24:49Speaker 2: would feel, but I think I would like to feel
- 24:51Speaker 2: like this.
- 24:52Speaker 6: That's why I don't have kids. They would be evil,
- 24:54Speaker 6: and I'd have to poison them.
- 24:56Speaker 2: See, I would like to avoid that whole thing.
- 24:58Speaker 6: That would be good.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Well, it's good. See, I would take my crazy child
- 25:04Speaker 4: and then train them with a set of rules to
- 25:08Speaker 4: kill other people that I think are fitting to die.
- 25:11Speaker 13: We're going to do it upright.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Like, no joke, I was sitting there thinking, I was like,
- 25:17Speaker 4: this really has a lot of similarities to what Dexter
- 25:20Speaker 4: took from, because they really do have this, like, this
- 25:22Speaker 4: decision of what do you do when you realize your
- 25:25Speaker 4: child is a murderer, like is insane. And like, that's this,
- 25:30Speaker 4: this version is like the bad version of just ignore it.
- 25:33Speaker 4: It'll go away. Help them cover it up. But you know,
- 25:36Speaker 4: you've got, you've got the other one where you've got,
- 25:38Speaker 4: you know, dad's going, okay, there, there is no good
- 25:41Speaker 4: side to this. You know, it's already bad. The best,
- 25:44Speaker 4: the easiest way out is to kill the child now,
- 25:47Speaker 4: but I don't want to do that because I still
- 25:48Speaker 4: love this kid. So what, what's the only way that
- 25:51Speaker 4: I could, harness this evil and use.
- 25:54Speaker 2: It for good yeah into something useful.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Yeah so it that i thought it was kind of
- 25:59Speaker 4: interesting between the two and i wonder how much you
- 26:01Speaker 4: know they actually like drew from this initially because it's
- 26:05Speaker 4: at least the basic concept and it also brings in
- 26:08Speaker 4: the very much the genetics versus environment level of you.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Know they covered that on an episode of nip tuck
- 26:16Speaker 3: okay Well, I mean, it's an interesting concept. Like, one
- 26:21Speaker 3: of the doctors on the show, there was, like, a
- 26:23Speaker 3: serial killer around, and he was suspected to be the
- 26:25Speaker 3: serial killer. And he was adopted, and come to find out,
- 26:29Speaker 3: he was, like, his birth mother was, like, raped by, like,
- 26:34Speaker 3: a serial killer, like, rapist. And he was, like, the
- 26:37Speaker 3: child from that. So that was their argument. He wasn't
- 26:41Speaker 3: the serial killer, but, you know, that was their argument.
- 26:44Speaker 3: You know, like, this is your.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Your heritage?
- 26:46Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:48Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I'm not sure if it's, I mean, but I don't know.
- 26:51Speaker 2: I don't know that much about genetics. Is it kind
- 26:54Speaker 2: of like cancer, like on a genetic level?
- 26:58Speaker 4: It's pretty likely you're going to be a homicidal maniac.
- 27:01Speaker 2: You're predestined to have homicidal maniacal tendencies.
- 27:05Speaker 4: Maniacisms.
- 27:06Speaker 12: Maniacisms.
- 27:07Speaker 3: I mean, I think for the most part, people are
- 27:09Speaker 3: a product of their environment, but I've seen like, I
- 27:12Speaker 3: have friends with adopted children who are just totally their
- 27:15Speaker 3: own personality. I mean, that's any kid, like you watch
- 27:19Speaker 3: any kid, you know, they say funny things and they
- 27:21Speaker 3: do weird things. You're like, where the fuck did that
- 27:22Speaker 3: come from? Like, why do you do that? Like, where
- 27:25Speaker 3: do you get that from?
- 27:26Speaker 4: Like, I don't know. I mean, I would be more
- 27:29Speaker 4: likely at least in, in your normal everyday way of
- 27:33Speaker 4: thinking that it would be more environment based and that
- 27:35Speaker 4: isn't easier. So to me, it's almost like a, an
- 27:38Speaker 4: easy out and especially in this story when they it's
- 27:41Speaker 4: not just that she Has bad wiring and goes crazy
- 27:44Speaker 4: like I almost believe that story a little more as
- 27:46Speaker 4: if like she really did grow up in this perfect
- 27:48Speaker 4: little home With that actually being you know her mother
- 27:51Speaker 4: and that actually being her grandfather and they come from
- 27:54Speaker 4: a perfect little life And then one day she just
- 27:56Speaker 4: snaps and starts killing people. I think that's like a
- 28:00Speaker 4: still realistic version I think that that's probably still going
- 28:03Speaker 4: on out there, too. I I think it's almost an
- 28:05Speaker 4: easy out for them to be like, oh, you were adopted. Oh,
- 28:08Speaker 4: and guess what? Your mother killed people.
- 28:10Speaker 9: And so.
- 28:11Speaker 4: I mean, but again, maybe that's all based in fact,
- 28:14Speaker 4: because that's once again, I was thinking that was tied
- 28:17Speaker 4: to the Dexter thing, too. That's also the same thing.
- 28:19Speaker 4: That's not really his father. He found them in the
- 28:21Speaker 4: middle of a murder scene like they did in this
- 28:23Speaker 4: story and then took him. But I mean, it's then
- 28:26Speaker 4: drawing on that, you know, if your parents, yeah, if
- 28:29Speaker 4: your parents are crazy, you know, you've got this crazy
- 28:31Speaker 4: little kid. So, yeah. What do you find a kid
- 28:34Speaker 4: and what do you do with it?
- 28:35Speaker 6: Why did it skip Christine then? Skip generation. The crazy
- 28:38Speaker 6: is just every other generation.
- 28:40Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Because she was a product of
- 28:42Speaker 4: that exact same environment. She grew up well-to-do, and she
- 28:45Speaker 4: had a successful father, and a mother, I'm assuming. She
- 28:48Speaker 4: didn't kill people. And she grew up almost perfect. She's
- 28:51Speaker 4: like the June Cleaver in this story. I mean, everything
- 28:54Speaker 4: is freaking perfect in her little life. So... Yeah, it makes,
- 28:57Speaker 4: it almost makes no sense when you put those two together.
- 29:00Speaker 4: If both of them were exposed to the exact same environment,
- 29:03Speaker 4: and they have the same genetics, then it doesn't even
- 29:05Speaker 4: follow suit in this point.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Well, you know, and she's not like this now, but,
- 29:09Speaker 3: I mean, like, I was terrified of this child when
- 29:13Speaker 3: I was, I mean, not when she was, like, first born, but, like,
- 29:16Speaker 3: my cousins had a baby, and they're perfectly fine parents,
- 29:19Speaker 3: you know, they have a lot of money, and, you know,
- 29:22Speaker 3: they have four kids, and they're fine, but, like, Their
- 29:25Speaker 3: second daughter, when she was like... And I think, luckily,
- 29:29Speaker 3: it was just a phase that she went through. She
- 29:32Speaker 3: just had no concept of right and wrong.
- 29:34Speaker 1: No.
- 29:34Speaker 3: And she was evil. I mean, she was evil. She
- 29:37Speaker 3: like would grab the cat by his tail. She would
- 29:39Speaker 3: like kick the cat for fun and just laugh. And like,
- 29:42Speaker 3: she was bad. She's not like that now, but you
- 29:45Speaker 3: could just like, see, she had no, you could just
- 29:48Speaker 3: watch her. She had no concept of like, She just
- 29:51Speaker 3: didn't give a fuck.
- 29:52Speaker 4: I have one of those in my family that just
- 29:55Speaker 4: recently were dealing with that situation.
- 29:57Speaker 2: At one point, it's like, do the parents need to
- 29:59Speaker 2: step in and be like, kicking the cat is bad?
- 30:02Speaker 3: Well, they were, but she just did not matter. And
- 30:05Speaker 3: she's grown out of that. Luckily, it was just a phase,
- 30:07Speaker 3: but it was just weird to watch. I was like,
- 30:09Speaker 3: I don't really, you know, you hurt something, you feel it.
- 30:14Speaker 3: I mean, you don't like. physically feel it but you
- 30:17Speaker 3: understand that you're hurting and.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Very quickly you should even as a kid when you
- 30:21Speaker 4: see something in pain and you realize you just caused
- 30:24Speaker 4: that there is some sort of empathy that's like oh
- 30:26Speaker 4: god yeah but yeah you could.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Just tell there was no connection yeah but she's grown
- 30:31Speaker 3: out of that luckily but We.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Were dealing with that with one of the children in
- 30:36Speaker 4: my family. It was an issue with a dog. A
- 30:40Speaker 4: lot of unremorseful pain caused? I don't know. So, yeah,
- 30:44Speaker 4: it's like you just have to wonder what is it
- 30:47Speaker 4: that's in your head when you're a kid and how
- 30:50Speaker 4: is it? Is it environment that then changes it? And
- 30:53Speaker 4: you really, if the parent is there.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I think it's a factor of all that stuff.
- 30:56Speaker 4: I think, yeah, that's kind of what I took from it.
- 30:58Speaker 4: It's like it's a big mesh of everything where it
- 31:01Speaker 4: is part environment, it is part genetics, it is part
- 31:04Speaker 4: just the way your brain is wired.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Some kids are just born bad. Some people just are
- 31:09Speaker 2: born bad, broken, chemical deficient, whatever you want to say.
- 31:13Speaker 2: I mean, some people never learned that. You know, kicking
- 31:16Speaker 2: the cat's bad. Causing pain's bad. Some people don't.
- 31:19Speaker 4: And that's, I think, the only thing that explains this
- 31:22Speaker 4: little scenario is that it was a mixture of, okay,
- 31:24Speaker 4: she's got bad genetics in her line, but it's just
- 31:27Speaker 4: the wiring of the way you come out. Mom came
- 31:30Speaker 4: out and was fine. Next one out wasn't quite so fine. So...
- 31:35Speaker 4: And I think it is just a mixture of everything.
- 31:37Speaker 4: And then environment can help, but not always. I mean,
- 31:40Speaker 4: there's equally as many, you know, lying, cheating, murdering people
- 31:44Speaker 4: in the old well-to-do families as there are in the streets. So,
- 31:47Speaker 4: you know, I think that it's sort of a tax bracket. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 4: it's like a crutch, really. It's like what you use
- 31:53Speaker 4: when you need an easy answer is, oh, it was
- 31:55Speaker 4: their environment. They grew up in that. But I'm like, well,
- 31:58Speaker 4: some of that can be that.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Oh, definitely.
- 32:01Speaker 3: And not in all cases, but, you know, it's just like,
- 32:04Speaker 3: if you think about poor people stealing and killing and
- 32:07Speaker 3: of course this isn't always true there's ruthless killers no
- 32:09Speaker 3: matter how much money you make but like it's almost
- 32:13Speaker 3: it's almost always worse like in higher class societies because
- 32:17Speaker 3: it's so conniving and like yeah meditating it's very cold
- 32:21Speaker 3: like yeah that's what makes it worse i think i
- 32:23Speaker 3: mean you know like i mean yeah.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Usually in any other you know, situation. It's like crimes
- 32:28Speaker 4: of passion or like, you know, I didn't mean to,
- 32:32Speaker 4: and you fell on the gun. And, but yeah, when it's,
- 32:34Speaker 4: when it's always, when you hear about the stories in
- 32:36Speaker 4: the high, you know, super, super tax brackets.
- 32:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:39Speaker 4: It was planned out and they could give a rat's
- 32:41Speaker 4: ass after they're gone. It's, It's very detached families where
- 32:45Speaker 4: I think maybe that comes with the society. Maybe, you know,
- 32:48Speaker 4: you end up being closer to people that, you know,
- 32:51Speaker 4: that's all you have is your family. You live in
- 32:53Speaker 4: this little apartment and that's all you have versus, you know,
- 32:56Speaker 4: you never see each other at the other wing of
- 32:58Speaker 4: the house.
- 32:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 33:00Speaker 4: So that may be.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Part of it.
- 33:01Speaker 3: I don't know nothing about no rich people.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Join the club. I paid with lunch at a pocket
- 33:07Speaker 4: change today.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I love doing that.
- 33:09Speaker 3: But, you know, I mean, like... I have an ex-boyfriend
- 33:12Speaker 3: who was adopted, and his parents were really cold. They
- 33:16Speaker 3: treated him like he was a bad seed. I think
- 33:18Speaker 3: he was a weird child, and they were like, Stay
- 33:22Speaker 3: away from this one. He's broken. Basically just treated him
- 33:25Speaker 3: like shit his whole life. They were cold, did not
- 33:27Speaker 3: give a fuck about him.
- 33:28Speaker 9: Kind of weird.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I just don't think, not specifically rich people, but I
- 33:33Speaker 3: just think socially you're different.
- 33:37Speaker 4: Yeah but i think that's not a secret but i
- 33:40Speaker 4: think all levels take place you know i think all
- 33:43Speaker 4: the behaviors take place on all levels of that you
- 33:46Speaker 4: know it's like there's there's equally as messed up things
- 33:48Speaker 4: going on on every level it doesn't make it worse
- 33:50Speaker 4: in the rich either i mean there's horrible horrible things
- 33:53Speaker 4: going on and in the lower ends i mean it
- 33:56Speaker 4: it I don't know. In the end, I think environment
- 33:58Speaker 4: plays a part, but at the same time, I don't
- 34:00Speaker 4: think it's, I don't think it levels anything out. I
- 34:03Speaker 4: think you're equally as likely. I think it's more, you know,
- 34:06Speaker 4: probably on, on your wiring than anything else. Then, then
- 34:10Speaker 4: just the way your brain comes out, that genetics ties
- 34:13Speaker 4: in and environment ties in. But I think in the end,
- 34:15Speaker 4: it's just how you came out and some people are
- 34:18Speaker 4: just evil. Yeah.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Unfortunately, hopefully that won't be my children. Karma has a
- 34:27Speaker 2: bitch of a way of coming back around. God, please, no.
- 34:32Speaker 4: There's a lot of psychoanalysis talk in this one.
- 34:35Speaker 2: A lot of babble.
- 34:36Speaker 4: A whole lot of it. And I think it was
- 34:37Speaker 4: just that, I think, is something of the time period.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Oh, definitely.
- 34:40Speaker 4: Because I think it was just, you know, that whole,
- 34:43Speaker 4: you know, level of psychoanalyzing stuff had been around for
- 34:47Speaker 4: a long time before that. But I think that was just,
- 34:50Speaker 4: you know, the 50s and 60s was the point when
- 34:52Speaker 4: it started to, like, work its way into normal mainstream society. Like, just,
- 34:58Speaker 4: you know, snippets of it. Just enough that you could,
- 35:00Speaker 4: you know, build a movie around it. Because they also,
- 35:03Speaker 4: you remember that, like, the last scene in Psycho where
- 35:06Speaker 4: they just give this whole little... babble of you know
- 35:08Speaker 4: why you know Norman Bates turns out like this and
- 35:11Speaker 4: then they throw in a few technical terms and you
- 35:14Speaker 4: know that's really all they needed was just enough to
- 35:15Speaker 4: cover oh and that's why it was crazy so.
- 35:18Speaker 3: You know one thing I like about this movie it
- 35:20Speaker 3: really felt like a Hitchcock movie almost just the subject
- 35:23Speaker 3: matter but it wasn't it was like I.
- 35:25Speaker 9: Feel more drawn out than he should be.
- 35:27Speaker 3: That's true.
- 35:28Speaker 4: He's a lot tighter.
- 35:29Speaker 6: He's got that shit-together type.
- 35:30Speaker 2: He would have been a tight box.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Yeah, but still, the subject was just so dark. I mean,
- 35:36Speaker 3: it was the darkest... movie i can recall especially because.
- 35:39Speaker 2: It's so shiny and bright yeah you know that just
- 35:43Speaker 2: like emphasized how dark it was yeah.
- 35:46Speaker 4: I'm always amazed at how much you know again we
- 35:49Speaker 4: always think back to that time period and even before
- 35:52Speaker 4: as being pretty happy at least a society that sort
- 35:55Speaker 4: of duped themselves into thinking everything's pretty well you know
- 35:58Speaker 4: well-rounded and.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Happy they wanted everything to look new and.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Everything was sort of you know let's have a happy
- 36:04Speaker 4: little life but but still so much of the entertainment
- 36:07Speaker 4: was based like that i mean you look at like
- 36:09Speaker 4: these kind of movies and even like you know alfred
- 36:11Speaker 4: hitchcock presents was on tv every week and like there's
- 36:15Speaker 4: some grim stories on there and a lot of the
- 36:17Speaker 4: other like shows that were popular at that time it's
- 36:19Speaker 4: like people especially at that time i think just found
- 36:22Speaker 4: this weird fascination with you know i guess murder mystery
- 36:26Speaker 4: novels have always been around.
- 36:27Speaker 3: But i guess people always have people.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Just kind of like that but it is weird that
- 36:31Speaker 4: like as twisted as this story becomes, I mean, it's
- 36:34Speaker 4: creepy enough having a child that murders people. But again,
- 36:38Speaker 4: if we're going to get into the end here in
- 36:40Speaker 4: a minute, by the time your mother is killing the
- 36:42Speaker 4: daughter and shooting herself, damn, that's a dark ending.
- 36:47Speaker 2: And probably where, especially when it wasn't probably where it
- 36:51Speaker 2: should have been.
- 36:52Speaker 4: And we'll get back to that in a minute.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I also felt that, uh, it was what twilight zone
- 36:57Speaker 2: was it with a kid, uh, It was a monster
- 37:00Speaker 2: that could do anything it wanted. Yeah, that's kind of
- 37:03Speaker 2: what I felt also, was that there was a little
- 37:06Speaker 2: bit of that in there also.
- 37:07Speaker 4: I was kind of thinking Twilight Zone. There's a lot
- 37:09Speaker 4: of creepy Twilight Zones that sort of cross over into
- 37:13Speaker 4: the scary murders.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Yeah, especially when it dealt with children.
- 37:17Speaker 4: And that is i mean it is convincing on that
- 37:20Speaker 4: level like there's by the time mom starts to realize
- 37:23Speaker 4: that and you realize she's like scared that that kid's
- 37:25Speaker 4: gonna walk in the room and i'm like she's eight
- 37:27Speaker 4: years old and you're like frightened to death of this
- 37:29Speaker 4: little girl that's kind of i mean that is you
- 37:33Speaker 4: know impressive for them to make it that convincing that
- 37:35Speaker 4: she's scared she's gonna walk in the room and see
- 37:37Speaker 4: her and it's over.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Here what she was planning or whatever you.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Know And again, I think most of that's the performance.
- 37:44Speaker 4: I think it's Patty McCormick. I think she does a
- 37:49Speaker 4: good job because hers is almost layered more than I
- 37:53Speaker 4: would give most actors credit. Because I think when you
- 37:56Speaker 4: first start watching it, you're like, man, this kid is
- 37:59Speaker 4: a cheesy actor.
- 38:00Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 4: And then you realize it's, but not even that. It's like,
- 38:04Speaker 4: it's almost like layered to the point of she's overdoing
- 38:07Speaker 4: it to the point where she knows she's overdoing it.
- 38:10Speaker 4: And she's like overcompensating because then you see her with
- 38:12Speaker 4: like Leroy. She's not like that. She's an entirely different
- 38:16Speaker 4: person when she's around him and she doesn't have to
- 38:18Speaker 4: put that bullshit act on.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Don't want to talk to nobody smart, huh?
- 38:22Speaker 2: Like to talk to people she can fool like a
- 38:24Speaker 2: mama and Mrs. Breedlove and Mr.
- 38:26Speaker 14: Emery.
- 38:29Speaker 8: There's some Excelsior for you.
- 38:30Speaker 3: You talk silly all the time.
- 38:33Speaker 5: I know what you do with the Excelsior.
- 38:35Speaker 8: You made a bed of Excelsior down the basement behind
- 38:39Speaker 8: that old furnace.
- 38:41Speaker 4: And you sleep there where nobody can see you.
- 38:45Speaker 11: I've been way behind at times here too far. But
- 38:49Speaker 11: now I got your number, miss.
- 38:51Speaker 2: I've been hearing things about you that ain't nice.
- 38:55Speaker 11: I've been hearing you beat up that poor little Claude
- 38:57Speaker 11: Daigle boy in the woods, and it took all three
- 38:58Speaker 11: of the Fern sisters to put you off him.
- 39:00Speaker 4: I heard you run him off the wharf.
- 39:02Speaker 1: He was that scared.
- 39:03Speaker 8: If you tell lies like that, you won't go to
- 39:06Speaker 8: heaven when you die.
- 39:07Speaker 5: I heard plenty.
- 39:08Speaker 4: I listen when people talk.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Not like you, gab, gab, gabbling all the time, wondering
- 39:12Speaker 2: nobody get a word in edgewise.
- 39:14Speaker 1: That's why I know what people are saying, and you don't.
- 39:17Speaker 8: People tell lies all the time, but I think you
- 39:20Speaker 8: tell them more than anybody else.
- 39:22Speaker 11: I know what you've done to that little boy when
- 39:24Speaker 11: he got him out of that wharf. You better listen
- 39:26Speaker 11: to me if you want to stay out.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Of bad trouble.
- 39:29Speaker 3: What did I do?
- 39:30Speaker 5: Do if he knows so much?
- 39:31Speaker 11: You pick up a stick and you hit him with it.
- 39:35Speaker 6: You hit him with it because he wouldn't give you
- 39:36Speaker 6: that medal like.
- 39:37Speaker 14: You told him to.
- 39:38Speaker 4: I give that, I mean, most adults couldn't pull that off.
- 39:40Speaker 4: That kid really sort of comprehended the whole like levels
- 39:44Speaker 4: of what she was doing and just how much she
- 39:46Speaker 4: was like snowing people and i think the most interesting
- 39:50Speaker 4: is the way she would use like affection to try
- 39:53Speaker 4: to get her out of uncomfortable situations yeah and it
- 39:56Speaker 4: became very apparent like by the end of it but
- 39:58Speaker 4: even like that very first time like she she started
- 40:01Speaker 4: questioning her about the the metal or the the incident
- 40:04Speaker 4: down at the water and like all of a sudden
- 40:06Speaker 4: she like snapped and was just like switch gears yeah
- 40:09Speaker 4: she immediately i love you Not even that. It was like, oh,
- 40:12Speaker 4: it was the stupid, you know, if I give you
- 40:14Speaker 4: a basket of like, and most people would be duped
- 40:17Speaker 4: into that, you know, in the beginning. And most people were,
- 40:20Speaker 4: you know, but it's funny just how much she sort
- 40:22Speaker 4: of used that to her advantage, being the devious little
- 40:25Speaker 4: Mayan that she was, that she would continually, anytime she
- 40:29Speaker 4: got into a situation that was uncomfortable, they would always
- 40:31Speaker 4: make her go for that little, my mommy's so pretty.
- 40:35Speaker 4: And yeah.
- 40:36Speaker 6: I think I like the best about her. I'm sorry.
- 40:37Speaker 6: I just jumped right in.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 40:38Speaker 9: It was just like, as soon as she had got
- 40:42Speaker 9: her way, just that smirk.
- 40:44Speaker 6: She would have, that look in her eye. It was
- 40:45Speaker 6: just like, oh, that evil, comedic little brat. Oh, my God,
- 40:49Speaker 6: this is why I hate kids.
- 40:51Speaker 9: But, you know, that was the most impressive part to
- 40:53Speaker 9: me of her performance, was that she could pull off
- 40:55Speaker 9: that overdramatic, cheesy bullshit, and then you could see that
- 40:58Speaker 9: little evil smirk.
- 41:00Speaker 6: Like, oh, I got what I wanted.
- 41:02Speaker 2: And I won, you know.
- 41:04Speaker 4: And it was all about such petty bullshit. Like, not
- 41:06Speaker 4: even just, I mean, the medal was almost more of, like,
- 41:09Speaker 4: a stature thing or, like, you know, I earned that.
- 41:12Speaker 4: She felt like she was robbed of it. But all
- 41:14Speaker 4: the other things she killed people over were such stupid.
- 41:17Speaker 3: No, because, I mean, what's, I don't think it was.
- 41:20Speaker 3: I mean, I think initially it was, but in the
- 41:22Speaker 3: end she just wanted the medal, you know? Having the
- 41:24Speaker 3: metal doesn't mean you have the best penmanship. It's just
- 41:26Speaker 3: having the metal.
- 41:27Speaker 4: But I'm talking about the other, like the... The lady
- 41:29Speaker 4: with the bulb. The backstory with that little... Glass ball
- 41:32Speaker 4: with the fish in it. Yeah, the fish globe thing
- 41:34Speaker 4: that she... This stupid little trinket that she wanted. She
- 41:36Speaker 4: killed that old lady for. And then they're already setting up.
- 41:39Speaker 4: She's going to kill the landlady for her bird.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 4: Birds are fucking horrible pets. Why would you kill her
- 41:45Speaker 4: for a bird?
- 41:46Speaker 6: That wasn't in the book.
- 41:48Speaker 4: No. I like that, though, because it shows, like, at
- 41:51Speaker 4: that point, it's kind of like, maybe you could imagine that,
- 41:54Speaker 4: and especially if this was a really sappy movie, it
- 41:56Speaker 4: could have been like, okay, mom lives, she got rid
- 42:00Speaker 4: of the only other guy who ever knew she killed anybody,
- 42:03Speaker 4: she's got it out of her system, she's going to
- 42:05Speaker 4: be okay from here on out, and mom's going to live,
- 42:07Speaker 4: and they're all going to have a happy little life.
- 42:09Speaker 4: A lot of movies could have played it that way,
- 42:11Speaker 4: especially at that time period.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:13Speaker 4: But I think this one, I give it credit because...
- 42:15Speaker 4: even after you know the situation you know summed itself
- 42:18Speaker 4: up the guy was out of the picture nobody was
- 42:19Speaker 4: going to know she did it they were already setting
- 42:21Speaker 4: it up it's like it's not out of her system
- 42:23Speaker 4: she's evil she's already planning the next murder she is evil.
- 42:27Speaker 9: Next hit as long as somebody has something she wants
- 42:30Speaker 9: they're going to be in danger because there's even in
- 42:31Speaker 9: the in the book there's a line where because there's
- 42:33Speaker 9: another neighbor in the book that there's not in the
- 42:35Speaker 9: movie at all that she spends a lot of time
- 42:36Speaker 9: with i guess it's like her new older best friend
- 42:38Speaker 9: or whatever they hang out and have dinner a lot
- 42:40Speaker 9: of the times And after her mom kind of realizes, hey,
- 42:43Speaker 9: what's going on?
- 42:44Speaker 6: She kind of like warns the kid. I'm like, she's like,
- 42:46Speaker 6: you're not going to do anything. I can send you.
- 42:49Speaker 6: You'll be okay, right? She's like. oh, don't worry, she
- 42:52Speaker 6: doesn't have anything I want.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:54Speaker 9: So that lady is safe, and it's because she has
- 42:57Speaker 9: nothing that the little kid wants aside from, you know,
- 42:59Speaker 9: worshipping the little kid and telling her how good she
- 43:01Speaker 9: is all the time.
- 43:02Speaker 4: See, that's even more, like, detestable. Like, at least, like,
- 43:05Speaker 4: killing him was to cover up, you know, it was
- 43:07Speaker 4: protecting herself. It's just, that's basic self-preservation that we're all
- 43:11Speaker 4: kind of born with. But by the time she was
- 43:14Speaker 4: killing over trinkets and birds and bullshit, I'm just like, oh,
- 43:17Speaker 4: this kid needs to die.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Life needs to end.
- 43:20Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 43:21Speaker 3: I think it's funny how influential this movie is. I mean,
- 43:25Speaker 3: I remember seeing John Waters a few years ago, and
- 43:28Speaker 3: he said this shaped his childhood. I mean, it's a
- 43:32Speaker 3: movie that I don't think a lot of people have watched.
- 43:34Speaker 3: I mean, it's pretty well known, but... I think it influences,
- 43:37Speaker 3: you know, like we were talking Dexter, like probably influenced
- 43:40Speaker 3: Dexter on a certain level. And I just don't think,
- 43:42Speaker 3: I think so many people are familiar with this story
- 43:44Speaker 3: and this idea, but don't really know where it came from.
- 43:47Speaker 4: I think it's like the reference thing. It's like everybody
- 43:49Speaker 4: gets the reference, the bad scene.
- 43:51Speaker 2: But it's like the good son.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:54Speaker 4: But it's one of those.
- 43:55Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 43:56Speaker 4: I mean, as much of a geek as I am,
- 43:57Speaker 4: this was the first time I'd watched this, which surprised me.
- 44:00Speaker 4: I kept thinking, I was like, I've seen this at
- 44:02Speaker 4: some point, right? And then I started watching it, and
- 44:04Speaker 4: I was like, no, I've not seen any of this.
- 44:05Speaker 3: I was really obsessed with it in high school for
- 44:07Speaker 3: some reason, and I watched it in high school, but
- 44:09Speaker 3: I don't think I got to the end.
- 44:11Speaker 6: You didn't get to the end of the movie.
- 44:12Speaker 4: The hell are you saying?
- 44:14Speaker 8: I fell asleep.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Hell no.
- 44:16Speaker 3: Well, okay, to be fair, that night, I think, this
- 44:19Speaker 3: was before DVDs were popular. And I lived next to
- 44:22Speaker 3: a Hollywood video. I rented Metropolis.
- 44:25Speaker 11: Nice.
- 44:26Speaker 3: And The Bad Seed and watched Metropolis and fell asleep
- 44:29Speaker 3: during The Bad Seed. So, oh, my God.
- 44:31Speaker 4: You made it through Metropolis.
- 44:32Speaker 3: I know.
- 44:33Speaker 4: That was very impressive. Because Metropolis is, you know, you
- 44:35Speaker 4: don't even have dialogue to suck you in on that.
- 44:36Speaker 3: I mean, I was like 16.
- 44:37Speaker 4: I mean. It's visually amazing. But, yeah, it's not like
- 44:41Speaker 4: the most action packed, especially, you know.
- 44:43Speaker 9: I wasn't saying anything bad. I'm just saying that's how
- 44:45Speaker 9: most of your geek week activities end.
- 44:48Speaker 3: I didn't even go into all the movies that I
- 44:50Speaker 3: fell asleep during, like UHF and The Birbs and Rachel
- 44:54Speaker 3: Getting Married and several other movies that I can't remember
- 44:57Speaker 3: because I fell asleep the minute I turned them off.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I'm surprised there hasn't been a direct remake of this.
- 45:03Speaker 4: Actually, because I said that last week I was checking,
- 45:05Speaker 4: I was like, I thought at some point they had,
- 45:08Speaker 4: and then I looked it up and there wasn't. I
- 45:10Speaker 4: was like, oh, no, there wasn't. Then this week I double-checked,
- 45:13Speaker 4: there is a TV remake.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 45:15Speaker 4: There was a 1985 version that was, let's see, it
- 45:19Speaker 4: had Blair Brown and Lynn Redgrave, David Carradine. So, yeah,
- 45:23Speaker 4: I'm assuming.
- 45:24Speaker 9: But aside from remakes in general, how many movies have
- 45:26Speaker 9: been just like this where they have the kid being
- 45:28Speaker 9: the evil, either from... Being possessed by a demon or
- 45:31Speaker 9: the spawn of demons.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah, even the omen.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Remember the orphan?
- 45:35Speaker 6: The omen, the orphan, I mean.
- 45:38Speaker 4: The good son.
- 45:38Speaker 6: The good son. I mean, just in general, how many
- 45:40Speaker 6: movies have banked on kids being evil?
- 45:43Speaker 4: It's a popular thing.
- 45:44Speaker 3: But, you know, it's kind of funny because if you
- 45:46Speaker 3: think about, when was this book written?
- 45:49Speaker 4: I don't remember.
- 45:50Speaker 6: I mean, I would assume before the 50s.
- 45:51Speaker 4: Yeah, the movie's 56. I don't know.
- 45:52Speaker 6: I didn't read all the details.
- 45:54Speaker 4: It's a ways back.
- 45:55Speaker 3: But, I mean, I just wonder if it was written
- 45:57Speaker 3: at the same time that, like, Lord of the Flies was.
- 45:59Speaker 3: Because if so, then that was just, like, a weird
- 46:01Speaker 3: popular theme, you know, like.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Kids going crazy.
- 46:04Speaker 3: Yeah, like, kids having, like, an innate sense of evil and, like, wrongdoing. Just.
- 46:10Speaker 9: And not being able to know the difference, you know,
- 46:12Speaker 9: without right and wrong, because it's not in their brain
- 46:14Speaker 9: that way.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 46:16Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I mean. Her thing, she was almost
- 46:18Speaker 4: like seemingly unaware of her evil. Like when she would
- 46:21Speaker 4: just be like, oh, well, he's the one that died,
- 46:23Speaker 4: not me.
- 46:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I wouldn't even have thought to her.
- 46:25Speaker 4: Or at the end when she was like, you know,
- 46:28Speaker 4: why would I want to tell and get killed? Like
- 46:29Speaker 4: she realizes all of the consequences. It's like her brain
- 46:33Speaker 4: has developed enough that she knows everything that's going on.
- 46:36Speaker 4: But there really is no like concept of... right and
- 46:39Speaker 4: wrong to it it's just she's very intelligent but there's
- 46:42Speaker 4: no like wisdom that has come along with it she
- 46:44Speaker 4: doesn't understand consequences or guilt or anything it's i don't
- 46:48Speaker 4: know and then her little coping with it it's like
- 46:51Speaker 4: she almost all those things are pre-programmed her little sweetness
- 46:55Speaker 4: bullshit it's like she snaps into it when she needs
- 46:57Speaker 4: it yeah it's i don't know i mean again i
- 46:59Speaker 4: think she does she is the reason to watch this
- 47:02Speaker 4: i think her performance really and and i mean it
- 47:04Speaker 4: screwed up her career basically From that point on, yeah,
- 47:08Speaker 4: she got very typecast and had a hard time finding
- 47:11Speaker 4: screen roles. I don't know, maybe on the stage, maybe
- 47:14Speaker 4: it was different. But yeah, I'd heard it kind of
- 47:15Speaker 4: messed up her career as a movie actress.
- 47:19Speaker 6: Messed up her career, but never messed up those braids, I'll.
- 47:21Speaker 4: Tell you that right now. I like that we were
- 47:23Speaker 4: deciding maybe that was part of the problem. Her braids
- 47:26Speaker 4: were pulled too tight. She just made her fucking crazy.
- 47:30Speaker 6: It'll happen, dude.
- 47:30Speaker 9: My grandma used to braid my hair pretty fucking tight,
- 47:32Speaker 9: and that was really bitchy those days.
- 47:35Speaker 2: Mom, can I take my hair? Shut up.
- 47:37Speaker 6: You can't yank that shit. What are you talking about?
- 47:39Speaker 4: I'm going to kill you. Those days. Yeah, those days.
- 47:44Speaker 4: I'm serious.
- 47:45Speaker 6: You're going to see me then. I'm nice now.
- 47:47Speaker 5: Fuck.
- 47:48Speaker 6: I'm all sugar and sweet shit.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Wow.
- 47:53Speaker 2: That's very convincing.
- 47:54Speaker 6: Sugar and spice and all.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Puppy dog tails.
- 48:02Speaker 3: One thing I don't know, was this based on a
- 48:04Speaker 3: true story of some sorts? I know, obviously, Nick Cave
- 48:08Speaker 3: and the Bad Seeds was influenced by this movie, and
- 48:11Speaker 3: they have that song, Curse of Millhaven, and it's almost like,
- 48:15Speaker 3: it's not exactly the same, but it's very similar.
- 48:18Speaker 4: It's like if she went unchecked, basically, because it starts
- 48:23Speaker 4: off as seemingly slow as this one, but yeah, if
- 48:27Speaker 4: you let her run rampant, this is what would happen
- 48:29Speaker 4: if that was your town.
- 48:30Speaker 3: But I mean, it could have... It could have been
- 48:33Speaker 3: the same girl, pretty much. I mean, the song was
- 48:36Speaker 3: basically about her.
- 48:37Speaker 4: Well, that's, yeah, if you listen to the song, she's
- 48:39Speaker 4: a little older. So this is basically, this is the
- 48:41Speaker 4: infancy of her craziness, and then, yeah, you give her
- 48:44Speaker 4: a couple years, and this is what happens.
- 48:46Speaker 9: In the book, it goes more into her grandma's details,
- 48:48Speaker 9: and you see how she went along her path, and
- 48:51Speaker 9: all the people she went through, and how she didn't
- 48:52Speaker 9: get caught for so long. So it's just kind of
- 48:54Speaker 9: like leading up to, is she going to have the
- 48:55Speaker 9: same run? And then her mom, when she starts learning
- 48:58Speaker 9: all this, she's like, Is my daughter going to be
- 49:01Speaker 9: on the run like my mother was? And that's why
- 49:03Speaker 9: she eventually does what she does. But in the book,
- 49:07Speaker 9: her mom gets the electric chairs.
- 49:10Speaker 4: It must have been a pink one.
- 49:10Speaker 6: Yes, the pink one.
- 49:12Speaker 4: Girls get pink electric chairs.
- 49:15Speaker 3: Yeah, but I just wasn't sure if it was based
- 49:16Speaker 3: on a true story because, you know, like in that song, there's...
- 49:20Speaker 3: so many events and there's a town and, you know,
- 49:24Speaker 3: all this stuff about it. So I didn't know if
- 49:26Speaker 3: it was like a true story.
- 49:27Speaker 6: I don't know. It didn't make any reference to it
- 49:29Speaker 6: being true in the book.
- 49:31Speaker 2: I'm sure somewhere in history something like this has happened somewhere.
- 49:35Speaker 4: Oh, I'm sure.
- 49:35Speaker 2: Probably even worse in reality.
- 49:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 49:37Speaker 9: I mean, there have been many cases in the real world.
- 49:40Speaker 9: I've not heard of that many of that young that
- 49:43Speaker 9: do it, but you hear of teenagers all the time
- 49:44Speaker 9: snapping and killing people over stupid shit like video games. Yeah.
- 49:48Speaker 4: I'm sure it's based on some terrible story that he
- 49:52Speaker 4: heard and went, how about if I just make a
- 49:53Speaker 4: whole book out of this?
- 49:54Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 49:56Speaker 4: I think the music is kind of cool. I think
- 49:58Speaker 4: that tied in a lot with the Hitchcock references, too.
- 50:00Speaker 6: I don't think there was enough music.
- 50:01Speaker 9: There was a lot of scenes where I was like,
- 50:03Speaker 9: just give me some kind of music here, and maybe
- 50:04Speaker 9: it won't be so drawn-out feeling.
- 50:06Speaker 4: Well, there were some orchestrated, like, a little slower music
- 50:10Speaker 4: for their little happy family scenes, but the few key moments,
- 50:13Speaker 4: it worked in more tense, you know, Bernard Herrmann-esque kind
- 50:17Speaker 4: of stuff when she started to piece together the really
- 50:19Speaker 4: scary parts of this little kid, but... The piano is
- 50:24Speaker 4: a lot. It's almost overwhelming by the time they work
- 50:27Speaker 4: in the piano craziness that starts, like, assaulting the mother.
- 50:30Speaker 4: And then I do like them working it back in
- 50:32Speaker 4: towards the end of the movie.
- 50:33Speaker 10: I thought the.
- 50:34Speaker 4: Again, probably could have used more, but the times when
- 50:38Speaker 4: it was, like, tense music I thought was kind of cool.
- 50:40Speaker 3: One thing I was confused about, so she tried to
- 50:42Speaker 3: kill her daughter and shot herself. Are they just going
- 50:45Speaker 3: to let her out of the hospital and, like, go
- 50:47Speaker 3: back to live with her daughter?
- 50:48Speaker 5: Like.
- 50:50Speaker 6: Sure.
- 50:50Speaker 3: Would that really, like, happen?
- 50:52Speaker 4: Again, in the 50s, probably.
- 50:53Speaker 3: Yeah, right?
- 50:54Speaker 4: I'm sure they just covered that kind of showed up
- 50:55Speaker 4: all the time and were like, well, you work for
- 50:57Speaker 4: the military, right? Oh, you're fine then. You got him.
- 50:59Speaker 4: You take him from here. You make sure this doesn't
- 51:01Speaker 4: happen again now.
- 51:02Speaker 6: Maybe.
- 51:03Speaker 3: But, I mean, if you, like, slap your kid nowadays,
- 51:04Speaker 3: they're like, you'll never see this child again.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm sure today this would be a very different story. But, yeah, 56,
- 51:11Speaker 4: they would have been like, you stay out of here.
- 51:14Speaker 4: Don't you try to kill that kid again.
- 51:16Speaker 9: How fast did she get, you know, if you're going to...
- 51:19Speaker 9: Go to that big of an ordeal to kill your
- 51:21Speaker 9: kid and then kill yourself. Shouldn't you make sure your
- 51:23Speaker 9: kid's actually dead first? I mean, don't half-ass that shit.
- 51:26Speaker 9: Make sure the kid's, I mean, I'm not trying to
- 51:27Speaker 9: advocate it.
- 51:28Speaker 4: No.
- 51:29Speaker 9: I'm just saying if it was a situation and you
- 51:33Speaker 9: were that worried about your kid growing up to be
- 51:35Speaker 9: that evil and to continue on doing what they're doing
- 51:37Speaker 9: and you're that set on what you're.
- 51:39Speaker 2: Going to do.
- 51:40Speaker 6: I can do it right.
- 51:41Speaker 4: That's the thing. I mean, among the two there, you know,
- 51:44Speaker 4: the evil one is the kid. The kid needs to
- 51:46Speaker 4: be the one she makes sure is dead. She should
- 51:48Speaker 4: have shot the kid and taken some sleeping pills or something.
- 51:51Speaker 4: I mean, like if she was really worried about protecting
- 51:54Speaker 4: the world from this evil.
- 51:55Speaker 6: At least just make sure the kid's dead before she
- 51:57Speaker 6: shoots herself. Oh, she's, she's halfway going.
- 52:01Speaker 9: She's, almost maybe asleep i'll go ahead and you know
- 52:04Speaker 9: off myself or.
- 52:05Speaker 4: If they had enough if they just both would have
- 52:07Speaker 4: taken the pills yeah then i mean the only reason
- 52:09Speaker 4: the kid lives is because she uses the gun and
- 52:12Speaker 4: alerts the people in the building that she just shot
- 52:15Speaker 4: herself so they come save the kid so yeah if
- 52:18Speaker 4: she would have quietly offed herself.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Everyone just would have went to sleep and never woken up.
- 52:23Speaker 3: She could have just slashed her wrist or something. Don't
- 52:25Speaker 3: anybody think that I'm advocating?
- 52:25Speaker 2: The movie would have been about not 10 minutes short.
- 52:28Speaker 4: Not saying it's cool to kill yourself. I'm just saying,
- 52:30Speaker 4: if you've got a strategy, think it out.
- 52:33Speaker 3: I saw Wrist Cutters. It's totally cool.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Actually, the movie was not.
- 52:36Speaker 3: As good as it should have been. But we won't
- 52:38Speaker 3: go into that.
- 52:39Speaker 4: We will on a different episode.
- 52:41Speaker 1: Nice.
- 52:42Speaker 9: In the book, she does give her kid the pills,
- 52:44Speaker 9: but in the book, she fucking offs herself okay. The
- 52:46Speaker 9: kid's all right.
- 52:48Speaker 4: See, that's, yeah, do we want to go ahead and
- 52:49Speaker 4: get to the end? I think that's about where I
- 52:51Speaker 4: have it for the rest of the movie. So, yeah,
- 52:53Speaker 4: the end offers a lot of different things to go into.
- 52:57Speaker 9: In the book, like I said, she shoots herself, they run,
- 53:01Speaker 9: they save the kid, she's fucking dead, so whatever for her.
- 53:04Speaker 9: But then they're in the hospital, and that's the end.
- 53:06Speaker 9: They're getting the kid out of the hospital, the end, da-da-da-da-da.
- 53:09Speaker 6: Kid, evil, whatever. And that's it.
- 53:12Speaker 2: The EOC goes on.
- 53:13Speaker 4: But do you know why it's different? I figured they
- 53:17Speaker 4: would make some sort of changes, because for some reason,
- 53:19Speaker 4: I think they always changed the book.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Too much of a down note?
- 53:22Speaker 4: No, see, that's the thing. I mean, to me, it
- 53:24Speaker 4: almost should have ended that way. Well, I mean, if
- 53:28Speaker 4: it would have ended the way that the mom planned it,
- 53:30Speaker 4: it would have been a really creepy, dark movie, but
- 53:32Speaker 4: it would have been okay, and it wouldn't have screwed
- 53:34Speaker 4: things up. Maybe it's because, because in the book, the kid,
- 53:36Speaker 4: they bring the kid back in the book, right?
- 53:38Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 53:39Speaker 4: The kid's alive. The kid's fine. Okay, that's where the
- 53:41Speaker 4: problem comes in, because this is 1956, the Hays Code.
- 53:43Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 53:46Speaker 4: The Hays Code won't let you show someone... It won't
- 53:49Speaker 4: allow crime to pay. So basically, the person.
- 53:51Speaker 6: You can't be unpunished for your crime.
- 53:53Speaker 4: Yeah, the person doing bad things can't get away with it.
- 53:56Speaker 4: And the kid living means she gets away with it.
- 53:58Speaker 4: But what about the mom?
- 53:59Speaker 6: She tried to kill the kid. Is she not going
- 54:01Speaker 6: to get punished? Is she going to be able to
- 54:02Speaker 6: go along.
- 54:02Speaker 4: With her life? I guess taking a bullet in the
- 54:04Speaker 4: head is her punishment. I don't know. She didn't do
- 54:07Speaker 4: it very well, but whatever. oh i don't know but
- 54:10Speaker 4: yeah that that became the reason that they had to
- 54:13Speaker 4: add this whole last 10-15 minutes on and have the
- 54:15Speaker 4: kid you know survive and then try to go get
- 54:17Speaker 4: the medal and then we can get to the very.
- 54:20Speaker 9: It's awesome i don't think i laughed so hard i
- 54:23Speaker 9: think the special effects for this were amazing.
- 54:26Speaker 4: Yeah but of all things i mean there the.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Wrath of god is yeah awesome coming at.
- 54:32Speaker 4: The end it's an act of god that takes her
- 54:34Speaker 4: out I'm like, there's a lot of ways they could
- 54:37Speaker 4: have written that out somewhat normally, I guess.
- 54:39Speaker 6: Should we not exactly spoil the exact thing? It says
- 54:42Speaker 6: to not talk about it. I didn't know if you
- 54:43Speaker 6: wanted to actually.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Don't divulge.
- 54:45Speaker 4: Yeah, we got a stern warning at the end of
- 54:48Speaker 4: this movie that we weren't supposed to tell you guys about.
- 54:50Speaker 2: Yeah, finger-shakin'.
- 54:51Speaker 6: There was a lot of finger-shakin' in this movie.
- 54:53Speaker 3: There was finger-shakin'.
- 54:53Speaker 2: That was the drunk lady.
- 54:54Speaker 4: She did a lot of pointin' and finger-shakin'. Even the
- 54:57Speaker 4: little girl did some finger-shakin'. Yeah, there's a lot of
- 54:59Speaker 4: finger-shakin' in this movie.
- 55:01Speaker 3: That's how you know it's serious.
- 55:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 55:03Speaker 4: I don't know. I mean, to me... It would have
- 55:05Speaker 4: made more sense. I mean, even if they just wanted
- 55:07Speaker 4: to change it for the sake of, okay, we have
- 55:09Speaker 4: to appease the code, to just end it there. And, like,
- 55:11Speaker 4: actually have her have killed the kid. Maybe that screws
- 55:14Speaker 4: up the whole... I don't know. But, I mean, either way,
- 55:16Speaker 4: now she's dead. So it's like.
- 55:17Speaker 9: You have a mother killing her child. You don't want
- 55:19Speaker 9: to pass that image along. So.
- 55:22Speaker 6: But for that time.
- 55:23Speaker 11: I guess.
- 55:23Speaker 4: I'm like.
- 55:24Speaker 9: 56, you don't want that... Oh, you think your kid's evil?
- 55:26Speaker 6: Hey, you know what?
- 55:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see because of the time, there's no
- 55:30Speaker 2: way it could have ended like that.
- 55:32Speaker 4: I guess.
- 55:32Speaker 2: But nowadays, because of.
- 55:34Speaker 4: For me.
- 55:35Speaker 2: I don't know, it would not be nowadays. I think
- 55:37Speaker 2: that would have been a good ending.
- 55:38Speaker 4: For me, it's more of a poetic ending of, you know,
- 55:40Speaker 4: like she sees the evil... She takes the ultimate step of, like,
- 55:44Speaker 4: sparing the world of this evil.
- 55:47Speaker 9: Sparing not only the world, but her kid from the
- 55:48Speaker 9: life she's going to have to live trying to, you know,
- 55:52Speaker 9: get away with this shit and trying to hide from
- 55:53Speaker 9: people and still getting away with it because she knows
- 55:55Speaker 9: there's no way that the kid's going to stop.
- 55:57Speaker 3: No.
- 55:58Speaker 9: The kid's not going to form a conscious magically overnight.
- 56:00Speaker 9: The kid's going to be evil forever.
- 56:02Speaker 4: You've seen her within the span of this week or
- 56:04Speaker 4: whenever this takes place that, yeah, she, like... already is
- 56:08Speaker 4: finished one covering up another one taking somebody out to
- 56:11Speaker 4: protect herself you know I mean this is just within
- 56:15Speaker 4: one little incident so it's like yeah she's going to
- 56:17Speaker 4: get worse and worse so it It definitely is, you know,
- 56:20Speaker 4: I think it's almost would have been, it would have
- 56:23Speaker 4: been a very dark, creepy ending, but I think to
- 56:25Speaker 4: me it should have just stopped there and that would
- 56:27Speaker 4: have been a really cool, sad ending.
- 56:31Speaker 2: No, especially that's kind of like the flow of the movie.
- 56:33Speaker 2: It felt like that was the end. And then it
- 56:35Speaker 2: just kept going and you're like, wait, what?
- 56:37Speaker 4: Well, and just the mood, the whole mood of it
- 56:39Speaker 4: is kind of creepy and sad. So for me, it
- 56:42Speaker 4: ending that way wasn't any worse. It was just the outcome,
- 56:46Speaker 4: the inevitable outcome of what was going to happen. But
- 56:50Speaker 4: I guess, yeah, they had to find a... loophole through
- 56:53Speaker 4: all of these things it's like we want a slightly
- 56:55Speaker 4: happier ending but we also need to punish her because
- 56:58Speaker 4: she's evil and she needs to be destroyed.
- 57:01Speaker 2: It's just nature bouncing itself out.
- 57:02Speaker 4: I guess i mean that's really the only thing you
- 57:04Speaker 4: can take from it is that you know she was
- 57:06Speaker 4: so evil that the powers that be decided that she
- 57:10Speaker 4: needed to be taken out.
- 57:11Speaker 6: Do we want to divulge that information we already said.
- 57:13Speaker 4: It was act of god i mean how much else
- 57:15Speaker 4: is there.
- 57:15Speaker 9: I don't know it could be a flood it could
- 57:17Speaker 9: be a fucking an earthquake gonna fucking come up and
- 57:20Speaker 9: swallow our little evil ass.
- 57:21Speaker 2: I But that's not what happened.
- 57:26Speaker 4: Well then, triple spoiler alert. Okay, go ahead.
- 57:29Speaker 6: Fucking lightning bolt.
- 57:31Speaker 2: It was awesome. Blew her up in the pier or whatever.
- 57:35Speaker 2: It was tight as shit.
- 57:37Speaker 4: Exploded the whole area.
- 57:38Speaker 2: Out of nowhere.
- 57:40Speaker 4: And especially when you just don't see it coming. It's like,
- 57:43Speaker 4: she walks down there and she's getting.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I thought she was going to fall into the pier.
- 57:46Speaker 2: I thought she was going to collapse. Like it's rickety.
- 57:49Speaker 4: That's kind of what it felt like was going to happen.
- 57:51Speaker 4: She was going to fall in. And I was just like,
- 57:53Speaker 4: holy shit, where did that come from? Thank you, God.
- 57:57Speaker 9: See, first I thought they were taking her to the
- 57:58Speaker 9: hospital to kill her mom. Because she was asking questions.
- 58:01Speaker 6: She's like, why did I not.
- 58:03Speaker 9: Feel good the night mommy tried to kill herself? I'm like, oh,
- 58:07Speaker 9: little brat's going to go kill her own mother.
- 58:08Speaker 4: And again, I wouldn't put it past her.
- 58:09Speaker 6: Me neither.
- 58:10Speaker 4: Once again... At that point, Mom knew her secret, so
- 58:13Speaker 4: that would be her way of protecting herself, and then
- 58:15Speaker 4: she could live happily with Daddy forever.
- 58:17Speaker 3: Well, you don't know that the get in the medal
- 58:18Speaker 3: wasn't just like a stop on the way to the hospital.
- 58:21Speaker 4: It very well could have been, yeah.
- 58:22Speaker 6: See, I figured she'd kill her mom first and get
- 58:23Speaker 6: the medal, because then she really did earn it.
- 58:27Speaker 2: By that time, she thought she had earned it from
- 58:29Speaker 2: the get-go. Crazy little bitch. We never got to see
- 58:33Speaker 2: her penmanship either.
- 58:34Speaker 9: Yeah, I know.
- 58:35Speaker 2: Could have been a complete shame.
- 58:36Speaker 4: Could have been horrible.
- 58:37Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 58:37Speaker 4: Maybe that's why she was going to the hospital. She
- 58:39Speaker 4: just wants to be a doctor. She has terrible penmanship.
- 58:42Speaker 9: Because technically, her penmanship... is better in the book, but
- 58:45Speaker 9: it was because of improvement of penmanship. The boys' penmanship
- 58:48Speaker 9: had improved better.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Went from shitty to good, and hers was just good
- 58:51Speaker 2: the whole way.
- 58:51Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 58:52Speaker 6: That's why she was pissed off.
- 58:53Speaker 4: You don't get no damn medal. See, now if you're
- 58:54Speaker 4: basing it on improvements.
- 58:56Speaker 2: This ain't the bestest, yeah.
- 58:57Speaker 4: You didn't improve that much.
- 58:58Speaker 6: It was supposed to be a medal for the improvement
- 59:00Speaker 6: of penmanship.
- 59:01Speaker 3: Over the years.
- 59:01Speaker 4: See, Beth was wrong.
- 59:03Speaker 6: Hers just started off good, and it stayed good.
- 59:05Speaker 9: The little voice apparently was like fucking chicken scratch. And
- 59:09Speaker 9: then by the end, it was legible, so he won
- 59:11Speaker 9: the award.
- 59:11Speaker 4: And really, doesn't that kid deserve a medal? You've seen
- 59:13Speaker 4: his mother. I mean, Christ. He deserves several medals for
- 59:16Speaker 4: living with her.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Morning to the little boy.
- 59:19Speaker 9: She was the prettiest girl ever, and he was going
- 59:21Speaker 9: to marry her, which I just think is a whole
- 59:22Speaker 9: other level of creepy.
- 59:24Speaker 6: She was probably doing the little boy a favor.
- 59:25Speaker 7: That is very good.
- 59:26Speaker 3: Yes.
- 59:27Speaker 6: Oh, Lord.
- 59:27Speaker 4: Well, we're about done with this anyway, so what's your
- 59:31Speaker 4: final take on it?
- 59:32Speaker 2: Two thumbs up.
- 59:33Speaker 12: I loved it.
- 59:34Speaker 4: I think mostly for the Patty McCormick girl, I think.
- 59:39Speaker 6: Mostly for the lightning.
- 59:39Speaker 2: You love to hate her. You really love to hate her.
- 59:41Speaker 4: But, I mean, she's so good at it. It'd be
- 59:43Speaker 4: different if she was just a snotty little kid. There's
- 59:45Speaker 4: a lot of little bad kid actors that I would
- 59:47Speaker 4: be like, oh, this kid's terrible in it. But she's
- 59:49Speaker 4: got this commanding performance. Especially with the Leroy. When she's
- 59:55Speaker 4: yelling at him and putting him in his place, she
- 59:57Speaker 4: is vicious. She does not mess around.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: She bars her teeth pretty easily.
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: Damn. I'm like, little kids, normally that level of just
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: behavior and attitude, you don't even get to that right away.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: So I give her credit for being impressive.
- 1:00:14Speaker 9: The scene with her and her mom fighting over the shoes,
- 1:00:16Speaker 9: it was pretty hardcore.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:00:18Speaker 10: Crazy time.
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: It's crazy.
- 1:00:21Speaker 9: Yeah, I liked it.
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: Definitely. So hopefully we don't have to watch the Eli
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: Roth remake.
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: What?
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: Again, they had it listed on there. I don't know how.
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: It's pretty old.
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: Whatever.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: I like Eli Roth.
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: I don't care what anybody says.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: Yeah, nobody wants to ramp up the body count.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: The killings.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: That'd be crazy shit. Is this supposed to be coming out?
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: It's going to be like Thanksgiving with a little bridge.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: Because I love that movie.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: That would be awesome.
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: Thanksgiving.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: No, what was his? Thanksgiving Day or.
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was awesome. Did you ever watch that?
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: It's on Netflix. Thanksgiving Day, I think.
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: I think that was his bad thing, which he's now
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: supposedly making, too. Supposedly, Eli Roth wanted to do a
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: remake of this and modernize the hell out of it.
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: I kind of like Eli Roth.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: I don't care what anybody says.
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: I love Cabin Fever.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: It's not something from the 80s that people remember.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: I mean, that's the thing. I will give them, it's
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: been a long time, if you don't count the Made
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: for TV remake, it's been a long time since this
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: movie came out. You could certainly, it would be due
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: for a modernization.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
- 1:01:19Speaker 9: If you picture it now, they would have Elle Fanning
- 1:01:22Speaker 9: as the bad seed.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Who?
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: Elle Fanning.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say years ago it would have been Dakota,
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: but she's too old for that now. Elle's a pretty
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: good actress, too. I'd be okay with that, actually.
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: Girl from let the right one in or um.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: No let me in yeah chloe chloe they better hurry
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: up she's getting too old too yeah but she would
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: she would support the pigtails i can see that so
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: yeah definitely all right well with that we will wrap
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: up the bad seed and come back with the rest
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: of the show.
- 1:02:12Speaker 12: Abused by my lies, I got a bloody switchblade knife
- 1:02:17Speaker 12: I stabbed my lover in the back With.
- 1:02:22Speaker 8: Eyes just as bad as he, full of lust, distrust
- 1:02:25Speaker 8: and greed I.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: Wanna hear your bones crack She came to me with love.
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: In her eyes Transmuted my brains of sound I turn
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: my head, she better sit there.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I'm going straight to hell.
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: I know it well. Straight to hell.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: Show starts in four minutes.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: You shiver and shake. Quiver and quake when you see.
- 1:03:12Speaker 9: Kill, baby, kill.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: A man of science baffled by a kind of life
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: he can't understand. A leech fly. Challenged by a kind
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: of death he can't accept.
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: Ah!
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: Ah!
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Threatened by a kind of violence he can't fight.
- 1:03:38Speaker 9: Monica.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: I can't stand it anymore, Paul.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: They're going to kill us all.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: Stop it, Monica.
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: Get a hold of yourself.
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: But they're going to kill us all. I know it, Paul.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: I know it.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: You'll all be killed if you.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: Don't help each other.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: But everyone is too paralyzed by fear to help. So run, doctor, run. Run, girl, run.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Before that someone, that something, that kill between kill drives
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: you to self-destruction. Keep your eye on the bouncing ball,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: your ear on the mocking laughter.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: Stop!
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: And try not to shiver and shake, quiver and quake,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: when you see kill, baby, kill.
- 1:04:40Speaker 13: Are you still looking for that special someone? Have other

- 1:06:05Speaker 3: It's cold in here.
- 1:06:26Speaker 9: I've been doing that like so many times and jay
- 1:06:28Speaker 9: has no idea.
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: It's cold and fucking toro action you.
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: Must be some clovers in the atmosphere.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: All right so we are back and we've got feedback.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Yes yes no yes good or bad uh good good
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: and um a stern warning oh nice.
- 1:06:54Speaker 9: Am i being warned it's not even for you yes jesus.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: Okay first we'll get to this one and actually roger
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: you've probably got the best chance of pronouncing this right
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: s-a-n-a-e it's japanese oh i don't know either way yeah
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: we have heard from sunny If we're butchering your name,
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: please let us know some sort of phonetic way of
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: doing it right. But either way, thank you. I've actually
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: gotten a hold of her. I know she listens to
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: Comedy Film Nerds, and we had Graham Elwood on the show,
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: so I met her through that and talked to her.
- 1:07:35Speaker 9: Hi.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: Told her he was awesome and ridiculous and hilarious and
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: is she hailing from japan she yeah she is uh
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: she's i believe in tokyo but um yeah she uh
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: had talked to her online and just you know told
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: her that we were talking about the fact that he
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: was on our show and then i told her what
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: the episode was if she wanted to hear him you
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: know being crazy and rambling so she went to check
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: that out and then uh i think that was also
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: the one we did pontypool which i then gave her
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: a warning that you know our usual we spoil that
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: a lot of shit warning So her response was, let's see. Hi, Brian.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: She says, love the show. Very geeky and challenging to
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: follow for a foreigner with English as a second language
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: by myself. I'm like, okay, I apologize because it's hard
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: to follow some of this if English is your first language.
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: Especially if you're listening to me.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: I'm throwing shit out there that don't make no sense.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: I believe we all do.
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: My English skills done wandered off.
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: But yeah, she goes on to say, still loved it.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: I was just fascinated by your geek talk. So it's
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: good to know around the world being appreciated for our geekiness.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: Once again, she says, I love the chemistry among you
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: guys and the way the show is edited. Artisanship.
- 1:08:47Speaker 9: Nice.
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: Which is awesome.
- 1:08:49Speaker 9: Nice.
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: And bonus points for the big words there.
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: Ooh, fancy words.
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: She says, horror is no longer a genre for me
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: since my geeky friends scared the hell out of me
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: by making me watch too many Argento slash It sucks
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: that they'll never release it in Japan.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: I brought that up, yeah, when I was like, I
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: didn't know, you know, we go into that, you know,
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: just telling her, she's like, yeah, they.
- 1:09:20Speaker 10: Haven't put it out. I was like, that sucks.
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: I mean, granted, we had to scam it from Canada, but,
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: you know. Eventually, I think they put it out here.
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: It just took them forever.
- 1:09:29Speaker 6: Mine wasn't from Canada.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: Yours was in a day.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it was on, like, on demand.
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: It's not on DVD.
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: Originally, though, I think it was on.
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is the one we
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: had to get from Canada.
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: Yeah, but I thought, I thought maybe Pontypool got.
- 1:09:40Speaker 7: Major release. I don't remember.
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: I did.
- 1:09:43Speaker 10: Either way.
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: But yeah, she ends it with, once again, Misty, I'm
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: telling you, I don't know what it is about you.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: Her last sentence is, please tell Misty that this is true.
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: You've got a listener in Japan. awesome so once again
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: i i don't know what it is but you captivate
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: people around the world misty.
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: I don't want to go that far she's just calling
- 1:10:03Speaker 9: out my disbelief people actually listen yeah.
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: But once again it's like they're only one person she
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: named by name and it was you so.
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: I'm special i used to do your short bus velcro shoes.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: Yeah really short bus velcro.
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: Shoes i have a pair of velcro shoes Makes it
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: a lot easier putting them on.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: I know. I love those. They were platform.
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: Oh, the sound.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: The sound.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: They were platform Velcro tennis shoes.
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: Oh, wow. Spice Curl shoes?
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: Spice Curl shoes.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: Talking 1997 through probably 2000. Actually, I would dare say 2003. Okay.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: Settle down, Baby Spice.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: I haven't seen you wear shoes that actually have laces
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: or Velcro in, like, years now.
- 1:10:42Speaker 11: I know.
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: It's been a while.
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: That aside, thank you, Sinead. Assuming that we're saying that right.
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: Let us know if we're pronouncing it right.
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: And if you're saying it wrong, just remember, I'm not
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: the one doing it.
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: It's all Misty's fault. So, yeah, it is awesome to
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: know that we're getting out there and getting out there
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: to Japan, for God's sake.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: We reach far and wide.
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: There are many, many other countries.
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: That is awesome. Speaking of awesome, we have another message.
- 1:11:11Speaker 9: Yes.
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: Is it from Randy?
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: It is from Randy.
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: Misty was scared and then shared it with Randy and
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: then she felt better.
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: Well, you don't have to worry because this one is specifically...
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: For Roger? Very specific advice for Roger.
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: I need it.
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: You probably do. Actually, in this incident, I think you do.
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: At least you did a couple weeks ago.
- 1:11:31Speaker 6: Is Roger Randy's favorite now?
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: Hey guys, this is Randy.
- 1:11:34Speaker 11: This is the call you shouldn't air. This is the
- 1:11:37Speaker 11: call that if you play, spoiler alert, everybody nice... Fast
- 1:11:41Speaker 11: forward two minutes where you're not going to hear this
- 1:11:43Speaker 11: horrible thing I'm about to say. Roger, this one's for you.
- 1:11:48Speaker 11: If another man pisses on your car, you do not
- 1:11:52Speaker 11: engage in half-assed tomfoolery. You do not bring your feces
- 1:11:58Speaker 11: into the issue. I think of your Roger-like ancestors up
- 1:12:02Speaker 11: there in Valhalla looking down at you, seeing you crap
- 1:12:06Speaker 11: into a baggie and just shaking their heads with shame. No, sir,
- 1:12:10Speaker 11: that is unacceptable. The only time a man ever uses
- 1:12:15Speaker 11: feces against another man is if you're naked, covered in
- 1:12:20Speaker 11: somebody's blood, and you have your feces in your hand
- 1:12:23Speaker 11: and you're charging them, preferably while holding the entrails of
- 1:12:26Speaker 11: their firstborn son in your other hand. Any other time
- 1:12:31Speaker 11: is simply inappropriate. No, you don't want to engage in
- 1:12:34Speaker 11: some sort of war of attrition with the douchebags next door.
- 1:12:38Speaker 11: What is called for here is a level of psychological intimidation.
- 1:12:43Speaker 11: You need to psyop them off the field of battle. Well,
- 1:12:47Speaker 11: I'm here to tell you how I think you can
- 1:12:49Speaker 11: pull that off. Please, God, anybody nice, fast forward now.
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: For this task, Roger, you're going to need a pair
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: of rubber gloves.
- 1:12:58Speaker 11: A caulk gun for, like, caulking windows, a tube of caulk,
- 1:13:03Speaker 11: a screwdriver, a fuse, and some roadkill. Said roadkill works
- 1:13:11Speaker 11: best if the abdominal cavity is intact. That's pretty much
- 1:13:16Speaker 11: crucial to this whole planning.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Stage, is an intact abdomen.
- 1:13:21Speaker 11: I am not advocating hurting any animal, just saying if
- 1:13:24Speaker 11: you find something, it's a way to help biodegrade something
- 1:13:28Speaker 11: a little bit quicker. You take Screwy Squirrel, and you
- 1:13:32Speaker 11: flip him on his back, and you use the caulk
- 1:13:35Speaker 11: gun to seal off all the... Entrances and exits from
- 1:13:39Speaker 11: said torso.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: Then, you get the.
- 1:13:41Speaker 11: Fuse, and with the screwdriver, you jam it up the backside,
- 1:13:44Speaker 11: being careful to caulk around the opening to keep it closed. Now,
- 1:13:49Speaker 11: set it out in the sun. Direct sunlight works best.
- 1:13:53Speaker 11: When the abdomen swells, you've got some methane. Now, this
- 1:13:57Speaker 11: isn't going to guarantee a pyrotechnic show, but you should.
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: Get a good.
- 1:14:02Speaker 11: Place said animal on the front seat, light fuse, leave.
- 1:14:07Speaker 11: Set action will show the level of commitment you have
- 1:14:10Speaker 11: to enforcing your own personal boundaries. Note that this act
- 1:14:14Speaker 11: may destroy your soul, but I think I can pretty
- 1:14:17Speaker 11: much guarantee you some 20-year-old piece of shit isn't going
- 1:14:20Speaker 11: to piss.
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: On your car door anymore.
- 1:14:23Speaker 11: Feel free to contact me if you have any questions
- 1:14:25Speaker 11: regarding this or any other similar process.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: I'd be glad to help.
- 1:14:30Speaker 7: Randy, out.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: That just sounds messy.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Randy, I love you.
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: Thank you. Thank you. And I haven't, I have yet
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: to give any sort of retort, which I'm not going
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: to do. And I thank you for the advice, but
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: I don't know if my dedication goes that far.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: Wait, you don't want to finger a dead squirrel?
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Not today. Not for that reason.
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: That's just for fun.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: I'm only on special occasions. Oh, is that unusual?
- 1:15:00Speaker 10: Oh, sorry.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Is that what my neighbor keeps trapping? Squirrels and birds
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: and these little traps he has set all over his yard?
- 1:15:06Speaker 6: More than likely, yes.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: That's how the serial killers always start.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Hurting small animals.
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: Keep that in mind.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: I do wonder, he does sit outside on his porch swing.
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: He's like 88 and he goes by Captain? But he
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: sits outside on his porch swing with a shotgun.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: What's wrong with this?
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: I know, he's the coolest fucking guy I've ever met.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: I wish he was my granddad.
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: I know, me too. And his wife just recently got
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: out of a mental institution. She's in her 80s as well. Nice.
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: And every time he sees me, he'll come to the
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: fence and be like, hello, little lady.
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: I'm like, hello, Captain.
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: Catch any squirrels today?
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: Captain, my Captain.
- 1:15:43Speaker 10: Oh, wow.
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: So, yeah, once again, can't thank you enough, Randy. And
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: your recording and editing skills are getting pretty damn impressive, I.
- 1:15:51Speaker 7: Have to say.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: So, nice going.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: I feel my pain, definitely.
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: Awesome.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: Otherwise let's see um that that is it for the
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: feedback and i've also decided and this comes from there's
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: there's many changes going into effect here but one of
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: which is i'm kind of tired of beating a dead
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: horse here so i'm to the point i'm not really
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: asking for responses anymore i every week we get here
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: and whine about it and complain and probably everybody's just
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: sick of hearing that so If we come in, I'll
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: mention them, I'll read them, I'll play them, but I'm
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: not going to put it out there every week and
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: complain that we didn't get anything. I'm probably not even
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: going to post the... The, hey, this is what movie
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: you're watching, call in with your thought. You know, if
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: we don't get your two cents, then too bad. We're
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: pretty self- You've been working without it. Yeah, we're pretty
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: self-reliant on giving what we think is important. And at
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: this point, obviously, that's all we think is important. So
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: we'll just focus on ourselves then. That's what I always do.
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Well, that's what we've come to do.
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: It's like it just seemed ridiculous that we would sit
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: here and completely do it ourselves week in and week
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: out and then be like, Don't forget, we want to
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: hear from you guys. And then, you know, nobody wants
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: to play along. So that just seems pointless. So we're
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: going to do what we do and we're going to
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: talk about whatever the hell we want to talk about.
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: If you have a response, hey, you know where to
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: find it. I'm still probably going to play the message
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: with the email and the phone number. If you want to,
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: go ahead. I'm just, if you wonder why we're not
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: bitching about it every week, hey, there you go.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: That's why.
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: That's why. I'm tired of bitching about it.
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: Don't be shy. Just let your.
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: Feelings roll on by.
- 1:17:29Speaker 10: Don't be shy. We'd like to hear from you. So
- 1:17:31Speaker 10: give us a call at 502-365-5565. Or you can email
- 1:17:37Speaker 10: us at geeksatmoviemeltdown.com. And just stop by the website for
- 1:17:40Speaker 10: our frequent updates. That's moviemeltdown.com.
- 1:17:43Speaker 6: On by, on by, on by.
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: Along the adjustments, I guess we can might only throw
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: it out there. There's several things coming soon. Number one
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: is we're heading up on the massively impressive, in our
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: world anyway, the fact that we made it this far.
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: We're coming up on the big 100th episode.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: 100th freaking episode.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: Pretty damned.
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: God, I put up with you guys for that long.
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Pretty damned amazing.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: God, I remember back in the fifth episode.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: Yeah. I can't remember back that far.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Seventh episode.
- 1:18:16Speaker 9: In the fifth episode i was taking a nap it.
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: Was also in today's episode that was more like hey.
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: We all stayed awake i know every single one of us.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: Started sleeping until probably around the 50th episode i think.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: No there's not the 50th because you weren't here.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah that's right i didn't start i didn't join
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: to like what the 60th episode last week so I
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: don't know.
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: I feel like I've been doing this forever.
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: Dude, trust me. Don't get anybody.
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: And this is part this is part of of the
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: upcoming adjustment as well number one yeah we're coming up
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: on 100 and that's pretty awesome but at that point
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: we're also i'm leaving it the way it is for
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: now in between here and there to give us a
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: nice round hundred of doing things the same way but
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: at 100 i think we're going to turn a corner
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: Some of which is just because... Yeah, it is a milestone,
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: but it also gives us a nice round number to
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: turn things on and take a left turn and... Eh,
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: not completely a left turn. Just veer a little bit.
- 1:19:16Speaker 9: Veer.
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: Fork off. Fork off a little bit. Why don't y'all
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: just fork off, all right? So, yeah, basically, I don't know.
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: Number one, the schedule of recording slash editing is damn
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: near overwhelming. I think the story I was telling you
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: guys was.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: I can only imagine.
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: This was last week, and I was like, I got home,
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: I started editing the show, I edited the entire day,
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: I finished and saved that week's episode, moved the computer
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: over like six inches and went to sleep, and got
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: up the next day and went to work. That was
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: my entire day. I slept next to the fucking laptop.
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: It was really sad when I woke up.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: We love your dedication.
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: And it's different from waking up next to the laptop
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: after a night of sordid internet porn. No, this was
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: working on editing, for God's sake. Yeah.
- 1:19:59Speaker 9: You didn't wake up to a badly photoshopped version of
- 1:20:02Speaker 9: Kristen Bell on a naked body.
- 1:20:04Speaker 10: Not that night.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: That's what I did every other night.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: So, yeah, that, to me, from that end, it will
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: be good to sort of adjust the scheduling from here
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: on out. But, I mean, one of the options in
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: this past week, I was going through a lot of
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: them because we had a lot of upheaval and drama
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: along that, too. And I was questioning the entire show.
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: One of the options was, well, shit, we can just
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: get rid of, you know, that first half and all
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: the other stuff that we do. And the more I
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: thought about it, I was like, no, you know what?
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: I like that. That is what the show is. That's
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: part of what we are.
- 1:20:37Speaker 9: I volunteered to leave so that my incredibly obscene presence
- 1:20:40Speaker 9: would no longer be an issue.
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: But once again, people around the world are calling to
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: you by name and telling you you need to be here.
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: We're trying to find other ways to adjust and make
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: it good for everybody.
- 1:20:53Speaker 9: Best way to do that is a ball gag because
- 1:20:55Speaker 9: I can't stop myself from talking shit about people.
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: Hey, what you do with your ball gag at home
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: is up to you. I'm not saying you need to
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: bring it here, though, because we like hearing your mouth off.
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: Apparently not everybody.
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: Tough luck. They're not here. I'm running the show, damn it.
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: See, my problem is I forget that people listen to this. Like,
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: I just think I'm talking in a room full of, like,
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: four other people.
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: Yeah, sometimes you have to keep in mind it's not
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: just four people.
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: I can't do that. I can't see those people.
- 1:21:23Speaker 9: See, I can't do it either.
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: I can't watch what I say. I'm not going to
- 1:21:26Speaker 6: edit my opinions.
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: Well, and that's the other thing is I don't plan
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: on doing that either. I mean, we've had a lot
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: of different takes on what we've said over the last
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: few weeks, if not the entire hundred episodes. And in
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: the end, I'm just kind of like, this is who
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: we are. This is what we are.
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: I'm an offensive bitch. I'm not going to apologize for it.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: But I came to the conclusion that as long as
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: we're okay with what we say and we're willing to
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: stay in mind, I'm fine with that. So if you
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: guys are listening, and that's one of the downfalls of
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: the message boards, is that it doesn't always make it here.
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: So that's what I was going to say to the listeners,
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: is if you guys have a problem with something that
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: we've said, With the exception of Misty. I think the
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: rest of us are willing to defend what we say.
- 1:22:06Speaker 6: I can defend what I said.
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: But you'll be upset. That's the thing. So it's harder
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: with Misty. Misty, you're going to have to filter it
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: through me. I have to play big brother on this one,
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: but I'll do it because that's what it is. It's
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: like I know how... Some of the stuff bothers you,
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: so it's coming through me first if you have it,
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: so whatever. Well, seriously. Anybody else, though, I think is
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: willing to at least stand behind what they say and
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: defend what they say.
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: I stand behind.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: Oh, you will, but I'm just.
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: I will stand behind what I say.
- 1:22:30Speaker 9: I don't like my shit getting taken out of context.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: That's what I don't like.
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: I will give it to them to personally address. Misty,
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: I'll give you the option if you'd like to personally
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: address it. But I think anybody here otherwise is going to...
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: you know, even if no matter how horrible and ridiculous
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: we say, we probably have a reason or we were
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: kidding or we have a text or a tense that
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: we are using then that maybe you're not picking up
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: on or maybe, or maybe we are just being insensitive.
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: And I think if you, well, no, if you bring
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: it up to us, maybe it is something that we
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: just didn't think about. And maybe we'll be like, you
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: know what?
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: You're right.
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: Maybe I shouldn't do that. You know, maybe I shouldn't
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: have said that. Maybe it is something that needs to
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: be brought to our attention, but we'll never know that
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: if it's just, a post on a forum that, you know,
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: I try to get to as much as I can. But,
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: you know, if you want to make sure it makes
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: its way to us, send us an email or send us,
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: you know, voicemail.
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: Straight up, please.
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: That's, yeah, that's all I've been saying in all those responses.
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: So we'll leave it at that. But as far as
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: the scheduling, yeah, we're going to adjust things in the
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: upcoming weeks. We may spread out the weekly movie party
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: that we have here and readjust the schedule on that.
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: So It's definitely still coming at you, maybe not quite
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: as frequently as it has been, but that also will
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: free things up with the editing for me that there's
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: also a lot of other stuff I'd like to do
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: and other movies that we brought up that not everybody
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: wants to talk about. Me.
- 1:23:51Speaker 9: Me.
- 1:23:52Speaker 10: Probably Misty.
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: Not always, but probably.
- 1:23:54Speaker 6: Maybe that'll give everybody a little bit more of a
- 1:23:56Speaker 6: break from Misty. They can't handle it. It's just too
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: much Misty in a month. It's just too much overload, apparently.
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: Again, everybody likes it, so I'm trying to find a
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: way for you to be here and for the Misty
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: fans to get their fix. But then when we're getting
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: tangented every week, you know, maybe.
- 1:24:12Speaker 5: That's me.
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: Well, and we're going to give you the Marlena moment.
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: I know, but now.
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: That there's this pressure, I don't have any funny stories.
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: And that's okay then. We can make it a week
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: without your crazy stories. But if you have them, we're
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: working them in. That's part of it. Again, that's part
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: of what we are as well. And that's half of
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: not taking the first half out. Those crazy tangent stories
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: are what we are.
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, if you guys were just people that
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: I didn't know outside of here, then it wouldn't be
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: so bad. But, I mean, I only talk to you
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: guys once a week, and I want to tell you
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: these funny stories. That's what I do.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: I fully well enjoy the stories. They make me laugh.
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: I think they have their place in our show.
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: They're more entertaining than half the shit I say. You
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: have some.
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: Pretty funny stories too.
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: Not as good as yours.
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: I just have funny things happen to me.
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: You go out and do stuff. I said at home
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: watch TV or choose your own adventure books.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: I did not do anything this week at all. I
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: don't even remember. What was last night?
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: Saturday?
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: Saturday?
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: I believe that was yesterday.
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: Yeah well i don't i don't think i did anything
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: friday i think i went home and went to.
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: Sleep that's the sad part i don't do yeah aside
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: from editing the show so that's why i didn't i
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: mean there was a point where i was like midway
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: into the mess that i was like fuck it why
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: am i even doing this but then i realized there
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: is a reason i mean i really do enjoy the
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: show itself and and what we do every week and
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: i think Part of it is kind of important. Not
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: what we're saying, but the fact that we're here every week.
- 1:25:43Speaker 6: Oh, I know nothing I say is important.
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: But I think in a way, I mean, again, for
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: all the.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: I just thought of something really funny. Oh, Jesus. It's
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: a side story. Okay, so.
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: Now it's time for a Marlena moment.
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: Okay, so you know how hipsters always wear tight jeans
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: and thick glasses and have their hipster beards and their
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: ironic t-shirts? Sometimes it's like a tie-dyed t-shirt with a
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: wolf on it. Well, I met the inspiration for hipsters everywhere. Uh-oh.
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: But he was not joking. It was just this regular
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: guy who was very creepy. And I'm a waitress, so
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: I had to wait on him. We almost kicked him
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: out because he kept staring at everyone's butt and just staring.
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: But every time I'd walk by, he'd ask me a question.
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: And at one point, he stopped me and said, Excuse me, miss.
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: And I was like, Yes. He's like, Do you know
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: where scallops come from? I was like, Sea scallops? And
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: he was like, Yes. He's like, You know those big
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: conch shells? That's where they come from. I'm like, fascinating.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Did not know that. And every time I'd walk by,
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: he would, like, have another random tidbit for me. And
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: I'm just like.
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: Well, it's useful. I mean, he's just trying to help
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: you out. He was very weird.
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: Do you know what his name was?
- 1:26:54Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: Why?
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: I'm beginning to think... Again, it's been a while since
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: we've done a freak show, but there's a guy that
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: fits the bill already. At least by the minor description,
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: it also sort of matches up with one of my freaks.
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: So I'll have to check the records here.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: I mean, I just like... Could not get over the
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: fact that he looks like every hipster ever, you know,
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: with their, like, oh, I'm going to grow my beard out.
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: It's going to be so hilarious. I'm going to wear
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: this T-shirt that says Father of the Year. It's so
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: funny because I don't actually have any kids.
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: That is hilarious.
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: Yeah, but he was that guy, but he was serious. Like,
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: there was no irony in his, like.
- 1:27:33Speaker 6: There's no irony in his tight pants.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no irony in his tight pants. There is
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: no irony in those thick glasses or that lumberjack beard.
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I know several of the people that fit the
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: hipster bill, but they are very hipstery, and I'm fully
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: aware of how aware they are. That's what kills me
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: about hipsters.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: I could find ten guys that look just like that,
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: but they are like.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: Kidding.
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: They're like, look at what I'm wearing.
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: They're like, look at this payback. Isn't it so ironic?
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: That's what kills me about hipsters, because there are several
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: that come in where I work, and I'm just like,
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: I can almost hear them thinking, are you looking at me?
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: Look at what I'm wearing.
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: Look at this Cosby sweater. Isn't it so deliciously ironic?
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: Look at my funny hair. My hair's funny. Look at it.
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: It's funny. I'm just like, really?
- 1:28:16Speaker 6: This guy was for real.
- 1:28:17Speaker 12: God.
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: It's so ridiculous.
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: IRL.
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: In real life. Please don't use this.
- 1:28:23Speaker 6: All right, now we're getting the hate mail from the hipsters.
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: Please, hipsters, send me your hate mail.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: Yeah, please.
- 1:28:29Speaker 6: Send us your ironically hateful.
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: Hate mail.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: But, you know, if you kind of look like a lumberjack.
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: They're massively back. If yet.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: If you kind of look like a lumberjack, I might
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: be into that. So something or another.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: Send pictures tomorrow.
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: You're into Al Borland?
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: Lumberjack.
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: What? I mean, Al was a handsome guy, wasn't he?
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: Didn't everybody feel that?
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: Only a family feud.
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: He's no Richard Dawson.
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: Yeah, for real. He's still whatever that one guy was.
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: I liked him.
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: The dead one.
- 1:29:01Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: It's sad that he's the dead one.
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: Isn't his name Ray?
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: Ray something or other.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: Oh, poor Ray. So sad.
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: End of my random tangent there.
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: And that has been another Milena moment. I didn't know
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: if you wanted the little ding.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I do.
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: You want a little ring?
- 1:29:22Speaker 9: Oh, no.
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: I do like to say that. I like sound effects.
- 1:29:30Speaker 6: Random eye blinking sounds.
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: Blink.
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: Or, like, if someone smiles really big, I like to
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: say ding.
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: So we'll definitely have to look that in as you're speaking.
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: Oh, Lord.
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: So, yeah, that's one of the many adjustments here is
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: just scheduling. But then in the spreading out of our normal,
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: you know, movie parties, it will give us a chance
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: to work in other stuff. There are, you know, those
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: movies that we might not do otherwise, that this will
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: give us a chance to do a more condensed version, perhaps.
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: It'll give you time to miss me.
- 1:30:03Speaker 4: There you go. That, too. If you're one of those people.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: Fonder.
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: What is it? How does it go?
- 1:30:09Speaker 4: Absence makes the heart go fonder.
- 1:30:11Speaker 6: Yeah, some bullshit like that.
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: Yeah, bullshit like that. So, we will still otherwise keep
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: things coming at a semi-regular pace. I might spread it
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: out so it's not as much coming at that same pace. But,
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: you know, you'll still be getting your weekly fix more
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: or less. So, don't you worry. You can't escape. It's
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: that easy. Anything else to add?
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: I'm good. Oh.
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: Alrighty.
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: Now you gotta do the, what's the next two movies?
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: That's another adjustment.
- 1:30:36Speaker 6: Are we not doing two movies?
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: But we're still doing... Okay, kids, get out your decoder pins.
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: For you members of the Secret Circle.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: Interesting. Interesting. Decoder pin makes it weird.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: I didn't get the last.
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: So, it is time for the Movie Meltdown Secret Circle
- 1:30:56Speaker 4: reveal of possibly the last time of the next two features.
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: Because that was another one of those. I'm like, the
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: only reason we started doing all these extra ones and
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: trying to work it out so far in advance... was
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: to get feedback ahead of time. But we really don't
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: get anything. Put that in one movie. I feel like it's...
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: We'll be daredevils.
- 1:31:14Speaker 6: We'll fucking tear this shit up. We'll do one fucking movie.
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: It's like tying our hands when something new comes in
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: and we want to throw it in. It's like, oh,
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: we got to put it three weeks out because we
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: already planned so far ahead. Or we just fuck up
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: the list anyway. It's like we tell you next week
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: and then next week it's not next week. Night of
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: the creeps. Night of the creeps got pushed back like
- 1:31:30Speaker 4: a month and a half. So yeah, there's, it seemed
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: kind of pointless doing that too. So we'll tell you
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: what we're planning for next week. I can even throw
- 1:31:38Speaker 4: out some like generalized ones we're working on. If you want,
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: if you want like a heads up and then I'm still,
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: you know, once again, if you're not following us on
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: Twitter and or Facebook, I'm probably going to put out,
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: you know, Hey, this week we're watching this kind of message.
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: If you want to watch it at a time and
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: give you a heads up to watch it for the
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: sake of not spoiling something. But yeah, You know, other
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: than the, hey, we're putting it out there for feedback
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: once again.
- 1:31:59Speaker 7: Eh, whatever.
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: So, that having been said, next week's feature is Mystery Team.
- 1:32:06Speaker 9: I won't be here until I'm here.
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: Nice.
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: Real nice.
- 1:32:11Speaker 6: My name's Brian. I like to escape it.
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: It's going to be awesome and you're missing it.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: I would never do anything without friendship like poop my pants.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: That's why you better be here for it.
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if I will be or not.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: I'm going to try. But Dracula.
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: Dracula-er.
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: Come on.
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: Dracula. People try to correct me when I say Dracula,
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: and I'm like, don't you judge me. I like to
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: say Dracula.
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: For one of them Draculas, best be killed. See, mine's
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: from Squidbillies.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: I say what I want to say.
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: Mine's from Grand Adventures of Billy Mayhem. Dracula, don't want
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: to do that. I know.
- 1:32:38Speaker 6: I get your reference. Look, if you're wrong.
- 1:32:40Speaker 9: But mine's specifically from Squidbillies because I love... Squidbillies and
- 1:32:44Speaker 9: Butt Trouble is one of the funniest episodes ever.
- 1:32:47Speaker 6: We have the Draculars. He's one of them Draculars. He
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: best be.
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: That is one of my favorite ones. The one where
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: they all like spring out of it and are circling.
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: God, that one's awesome.
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: Between that one and the Swayze Crazy. I'm not sure
- 1:32:58Speaker 6: which one I like best.
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: That one's pretty awesome too. Those are both classic. Do it.
- 1:33:02Speaker 10: Do it.
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: What you came here to do. Let's take the damn
- 1:33:07Speaker 6: tree one time.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: And the following week will, in fact, be our epic
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: 100th episode. Which also, oddly, well, it oddly ties into
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: our Halloween extravaganza. So, you know, I figured that'll be
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: a fun way. It'll be our big.
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: Are you sitting there shaking your boobies as if that's enough?
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: They're all like, ooh, anyway.
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: No, no, I'm just cold. I thought maybe that's what you're...
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: It's like, are you working it?
- 1:33:33Speaker 9: It's a little shimmy.
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: Roger's averting his eyes.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: Working it.
- 1:33:37Speaker 12: No!
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: It's okay. It's okay.
- 1:33:40Speaker 6: No, I'm just cold. I'm... You think you'd cover him
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: up then?
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'm sitting on my hands because my hands
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: are cold.
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: You're tying it around you like an ascot. I could
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: do that.
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: Well, my shirt got really stretched out because.
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: You had a baby climbing into you.
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: Well, my little niece likes to pull on my shirt
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: and she likes to pull on it and try to
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: put her head down. I don't know why she does it.
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: You don't know why? She was never breastfed. I don't
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: know why. I think it's inborn in all human beings.
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: The evilness and the breastfeeding.
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: They're just attracted to breasts. That's all there is to it.
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: Who isn't?
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: I mean, yeah. Guys, girls.
- 1:34:15Speaker 6: Guys, girls.
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: Everybody kind of likes boobs.
- 1:34:16Speaker 9: Come on, man.
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: My friend at school, his boyfriend, or his longtime partner.
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: Throws up when he sees boobs.
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: What? Who doesn't like boobs? Even gay guys think boobs
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: are hot. Come on.
- 1:34:28Speaker 6: My sister covers her husband's eyes.
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: Well, that's because she's weird. Christian. She's super Christian-y, religious-y.
- 1:34:35Speaker 9: She covered her one-year-old daughter's eyes when a shirtless guy
- 1:34:38Speaker 9: was on a commercial.
- 1:34:39Speaker 10: Oh, my God.
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: She needs help.
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: Her one-year-old daughter?
- 1:34:42Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: When my niece was born. Covered her eyes.
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: She's weird. I'm telling you.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: This poor kid is going to be so sheltered and.
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: Oh no, it's going to be backlash. She's going to
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: be such a mess.
- 1:34:54Speaker 6: She's the daughter of two pastors.
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: She's going to be so messed up.
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: She's the one who went skinny dipping in the baptismal.
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: She's going to be slut.
- 1:35:01Speaker 6: I'll be the one she calls from jail.
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: That's what Aunt Misty's for. Alright, so yes. In this
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: epic 100th episode, it does fall into our Halloween extravaganza. Candy!
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: We know we can't have a Halloween episode without candy.
- 1:35:19Speaker 6: I'll eat it until I get sick again, won't I?
- 1:35:21Speaker 11: Yes, you will.
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: We all will. It's tradition at this point. So to
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: match that, I was also trying to think of a
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: good Halloween-y kind of episode. Nice.
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: While it was cheesy.
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: When are we not cheesy on this show?
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: Never cheesy.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: Oh, speaking of Halloweenies and cheesy, on UHF, Weird Al
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: takes a Twinkie and cuts it open and puts a
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: hot dog in it and covers it in Cheez Whiz.
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: I was like, oh, we should watch that movie and
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: then have that as our food.
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: I don't have to eat it, do I? I eat
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: a lot of crap, but damn, even I'm kind of
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: weirded out by that one. But anyway, trying to come
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: up with a cool Halloween-y movie to watch. And one
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: fit the bill specifically, well, for two reasons. Number one,
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: its title is Halloween. And number two, I just talked
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: to Tom Adkins. So we're going to watch Halloween 3.
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: And we'll have our little snippet with Mr. Tom Atkins
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: on his making of the movie. And then we'll all
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: watch it since it won't throw things off. And even
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: Joanie can watch it.
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: Even though it would confuse her if she watched any
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: of the other ones because she's still out of the loop.
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: But this one is self-contained.
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: It's its own story.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: So it won't ruin the series for her. See, I
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: was thinking ahead on that.
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: She appreciates it.
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: Yeah, we discussed this before. It makes no sense to me.
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: Especially the first one.
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: She just saw Aliens the other day.
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: I know. She's behind.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: Behind the times.
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: We'll make her a list.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: I've never seen any Alien movie.
- 1:36:44Speaker 9: What?
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: What the hell?
- 1:36:45Speaker 6: I'm serious. I did one for the show. I guess
- 1:36:47Speaker 6: you weren't here yet.
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you were slacking. We did Alien already. Aliens.
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 1:36:54Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: So we will wrap it up. And the sad part
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: is I already had this song picked out well before
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: Marlena brought it up. So it's sad that we're both
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: that in tune. I mean, I was originally, you know,
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: we've got the fact that the man liked this week's
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: story so much he named his band after it. That
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: was pretty obvious. But I was like, well, I'm not
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: just going to play a random song by him because
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: that doesn't tie in. And then I was like, well, hell,
- 1:37:15Speaker 4: he's got one that almost exactly fits at least the
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: personality of this character this week. So, of course, we're
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: talking about Mr. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. And
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: this is The Curse of Millhaven. About a young girl
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: who is a heartless killer. And also one of my,
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: I have to say, if not my favorite, one of
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: my favorite Nick Cave songs.
- 1:37:36Speaker 9: All right.
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: And now I'm going to have this damn Nick Cave
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: song stuck in my head all day.
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: I've had the Jimmy Ray song stuck in my head.
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: Are you Jimmy Ray?
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: Who wants to know?
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: Superdork.
- 1:37:44Speaker 9: I love that song. God, that guy was hot.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week.
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: Thanks, guys.
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: Bye.
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: Bye.
- 1:37:57Speaker 12: I live in a town called Millhaven And it's small
- 1:38:01Speaker 12: and it's mean and it's cold But if you come
- 1:38:05Speaker 12: around just as the sun goes down You can watch
- 1:38:08Speaker 12: the whole thing turn to gold It's around then that
- 1:38:13Speaker 12: I used to go roaming La la la la, la
- 1:38:18Speaker 12: la la la Oh God's children, they all gotta die.
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: My name is Loretta, but I prefer Lottie.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: I'm closing in.
- 1:38:30Speaker 12: On my fifteenth year If you think that you've seen
- 1:38:34Speaker 12: a pair of eyes mown green Then you sure haven't
- 1:38:37Speaker 12: seen them around here Well, my hair is a-yeller and
- 1:38:42Speaker 12: I'm always a-comin' La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la My mama told me that
- 1:38:49Speaker 12: we all got to die You must have heard about
- 1:38:55Speaker 12: the curse of Mill Haven How lost Christmas Bill Blakey's
- 1:38:58Speaker 12: little boy didn't come home They found him the next
- 1:39:02Speaker 12: week up in One Mile Creek With his head bashed
- 1:39:05Speaker 12: in and his pockets full of stones Well just imagine
- 1:39:09Speaker 12: all the wailing and moaning La la la la, la
- 1:39:14Speaker 12: la la la Even Bill Blakey's boy, he had to
- 1:39:18Speaker 12: die Then Professor O'Rye from Millhaven High Found Neil to
- 1:39:25Speaker 12: his door, his prizeman and terrier The next day the
- 1:39:29Speaker 12: old fool brought little Biko to.
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: School And we all had to watch.
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: As he buried her Well, here's the eulogy to.
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: Biko, had all the tears flowin.
- 1:39:39Speaker 5: La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: Our little town fell into a state of shock.
- 1:39:52Speaker 12: A lot of people were saying things that made little sense.
- 1:39:56Speaker 12: The next thing you know, the head of Handyman Joe
- 1:40:00Speaker 12: was found in the fountain of the mayor's residence.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: Well, if I'll play, can really.
- 1:40:05Speaker 12: Get a small town going.
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
- 1:40:11Speaker 12: Even God's children, they have to die.
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: Then a cruel twist of fate Oh, Mrs.
- 1:40:19Speaker 12: Colgate Was stabbed but the job was not complete Well,
- 1:40:24Speaker 12: the last thing she said Before the cops pronounced her
- 1:40:27Speaker 12: dead Was my killer is Loretta And she lives across
- 1:40:31Speaker 12: the street Oh, twenty cops burst through my door Without
- 1:40:34Speaker 12: even phoning La la la la La la la la The.
- 1:40:39Speaker 9: Young ones and the old ones They all got to die.
- 1:40:48Speaker 12: Yes, it is I, lighting the curse of Mill Haven
- 1:40:52Speaker 12: I've struck horror in the heart of this town Like
- 1:40:56Speaker 12: my eyes ain't green and my hair ain't yellow It's
- 1:41:00Speaker 12: more like the other way around I got a pretty
- 1:41:04Speaker 12: little mouth underneath all the foaming.
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: La la la la, la la la la.
- 1:41:10Speaker 12: Sooner or later, we all gotta die Since I was
- 1:41:17Speaker 12: no bigger than a weeble They've been saying I was
- 1:41:19Speaker 12: evil That a bed was a boot and I'd fit
- 1:41:22Speaker 12: it That I'm a wicked young lady But I've been
- 1:41:26Speaker 12: trying hard lately Oh, fuck it, I'm a monster, I
- 1:41:29Speaker 12: admit it Well, it makes me so mad That my
- 1:41:33Speaker 12: blood starts a-goin' La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la Mama always told me that
- 1:41:40Speaker 12: we all gotta die Well, yeah, I drowned the Bailey kid,
- 1:41:46Speaker 12: stabbed Mrs. Colgate, I admit, did the handyman with his
- 1:41:50Speaker 12: circular saw in his garden shed. But I never crucified
- 1:41:53Speaker 12: little Biko, that was through junior.
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: High school cycles.
- 1:41:56Speaker 4: Stinky Bohun and his friend with a pumpkin-sized head.
- 1:41:59Speaker 12: I've singed of a lot, now that you've got me going.
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.
- 1:42:07Speaker 12: Oh, God's children have all got to die. And they're
- 1:42:17Speaker 12: all of the others, all our sisters and brothers You
- 1:42:20Speaker 12: assume were accidents best forgotten Recall the children who broke
- 1:42:25Speaker 12: through the ice on Lake Tahoe Everyone assumed a warning
- 1:42:29Speaker 12: sign that followed them to the bottom Well, they're underneath
- 1:42:32Speaker 12: the house where I do quite a bit of.
- 1:42:34Speaker 5: Stowing La la la, la la la la.
- 1:42:38Speaker 12: Even twenty little children thought they had to die And
- 1:42:45Speaker 12: the fire in 91 that raised the Bella Vista slum
- 1:42:48Speaker 12: That was the biggest shit fight this country's ever seen
- 1:42:52Speaker 12: Insurance companies ruined, landlords gettin' sued All cause of a
- 1:42:56Speaker 12: wee little girl with a can of gasoline Those flames
- 1:43:00Speaker 12: really roared when the wind started blowin.
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: La la la la, la la la.
- 1:43:06Speaker 12: La Well a rich man and a poor man, they
- 1:43:09Speaker 12: all gotta die Well I confessed to all these crimes
- 1:43:18Speaker 12: and they put me on trial I was laughing when
- 1:43:21Speaker 12: they took me away After the asylum in an old
- 1:43:26Speaker 12: black Mariah Well it ain't home but you know it's
- 1:43:29Speaker 12: better than jail It ain't such a bad old place
- 1:43:33Speaker 12: to have a home in La la la la, la
- 1:43:37Speaker 12: la la la They all got children, they all gotta
- 1:43:41Speaker 12: die Now I got shrinks who will not rest with
- 1:43:46Speaker 12: their endless Rorschach tests I keep telling them that I
- 1:43:49Speaker 12: think they're up to get me They ask me if
- 1:43:53Speaker 12: I feel remorse and I answer why I curse There's
- 1:43:56Speaker 12: so much more I could've done if they'd let me
- 1:43:59Speaker 12: So it's Rorschach and Prozac and everything is groovy La
- 1:44:03Speaker 12: la la la, it's la la la la But all
- 1:44:07Speaker 12: God's children, they all have to die La la la la.
