- 0:12The first one he loved very much, the second he loved beyond measure,
- 0:17and the third he esteemed very highly. One day, he was accused
- 0:21of having killed a man, and he was served a summons to appear before
- 0:25the king's court. In the summons, it was stated that he was to
- 0:29bring three reliable witnesses along with him, men who were known for their integrity
- 0:33and love of the truth. He at once went to his friends and asked
- 0:37them to accompany him to the king's court and witness in his behalf, and
- 0:42all three consented to do him the favor. On the way to the king's
- 0:46court, the accused man said to the first friend, whom he loved very
- 0:50much, Friend, I pray you testify in my behalf, but he would
- 0:54not and turn back. He also asked the second friend, whom he loved
- 0:59beyond measure, and he readily consented to do him the favor. Likewise,
- 1:03he asked the third friend once more, and he too was willing. When
- 1:07they had come within hearing distance of the king's court. They heard how the
- 1:11King was in a terrible rage. When the second friend heard this, he
- 1:15became afraid, and, like the first friend, turned back. But the
- 1:19third friend, who was loved the least, went along into the king's court
- 1:23and testified in behalf of the accused who was acquitted. Author's note wa kwaene
