Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I hope that we're going to have a deal for
- 0:03Speaker 1: peace if accepted by Hamas's proposal calls for the release
- 0:08Speaker 1: of all remaining hostages to insure the success of this effort.
- 0:13Speaker 1: My plan calls for the creation of a new international
- 0:16Speaker 1: oversight body, the Board of Peace. If this international body succeeds,
- 0:22Speaker 1: we will have permanently ended the war.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Prom Minster Ntyahu and President Trump a historic day here
- 0:28Speaker 2: at the White House joining us now the Middle East
- 0:30Speaker 2: Envoy Steve Wikoff, thanks for the time, my pleasure, Brett.
- 0:33Speaker 2: How do you characterize this day?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Epic? Epic, really groundbreaking and the president, the President wants
- 0:41Speaker 3: to see an overall piece. It's not just about Gaza,
- 0:44Speaker 3: It's about how this might percolate into all other areas
- 0:48Speaker 3: in the Middle East and what it's going to achieve,
- 0:51Speaker 3: maybe even percolate into Russia, Ukraine.
- 0:54Speaker 2: It's just the early hours here, but we've gotten word
- 0:57Speaker 2: that Hamas has been briefed official telling us the Cutters.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Prime Minister, Egypt's intelligence chief just met with Hamas. Negotiators
- 1:04Speaker 2: shared the twenty point plan. Hamas negotiators said they would
- 1:07Speaker 2: review it in good faith and provide a response. Do
- 1:10Speaker 2: you have any sense yet from that side.
- 1:12Speaker 3: No, But I think I don't have a sense yet.
- 1:15Speaker 3: But I'll speak to the Prime minister, Prime Minister Muhammad tonight.
- 1:19Speaker 3: We've talked often throughout the day today, and I'm sure
- 1:22Speaker 3: it's General Hassan from Egypt to you referring to, and
- 1:26Speaker 3: I'll speak to him as well. But I think that
- 1:28Speaker 3: sounds like a very positive initial reaction for a group
- 1:31Speaker 3: that hasn't really had time to study our plan.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I mean, speaking about Cutter, there was this moment in
- 1:38Speaker 2: the Oval office and the Israelis tweeted it out the
- 1:41Speaker 2: phone call with the Israeli Prime Minister and the Cuttery
- 1:44Speaker 2: Prime Minister in which they made this call and he says,
- 1:48Speaker 2: mister Prime Minister, I want you to know that Israel
- 1:50Speaker 2: regrets that one of your citizens was killed in our strike.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I want to assure you that Israel was targeting Hamas,
- 1:55Speaker 2: not Cutteries. I also want to assure you that Israel
- 1:58Speaker 2: has no plan to violate your sovereignty again in the future.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I mean, that's a big moment.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I mean I thought that was I was there for
- 2:06Speaker 3: the call bred and I thought, wow, this is so historic.
- 2:10Speaker 3: This an Israeli prime minister communicating directly with the Qatari
- 2:13Speaker 3: Prime Minister, and they're there to make amends. They're there
- 2:18Speaker 3: to explain what happened, to apologize and to hopefully move
- 2:22Speaker 3: on from there. And it was a really positive and
- 2:24Speaker 3: uplifting call.
- 2:25Speaker 2: You've dealt with all of these figures in that region.
- 2:28Speaker 2: You know how tenuous this can be. One step foward,
- 2:31Speaker 2: two steps back. Yes, do you feel this one is different?
- 2:34Speaker 3: I do because we have so much widespread support from
- 2:38Speaker 3: all of the Gulf coast Arab countries. We have widespread
- 2:42Speaker 3: support from the Europeans. I just left a meeting with
- 2:46Speaker 3: the British, talked to the French today, So we have
- 2:49Speaker 3: a lot of support for the plan, a lot of
- 2:51Speaker 3: buy in. Do we have some details to work out? Yes,
- 2:54Speaker 3: But you know President Trump as well as I do,
- 2:57Speaker 3: with that indomitable spirit of his, everyone's going to be
- 3:01Speaker 3: pushed by him, and I think we're going to get
- 3:03Speaker 3: to the finish line.
- 3:04Speaker 2: How much did you have to push BBN Yahoo?
- 3:07Speaker 3: I think bb is strong for his country and the
- 3:13Speaker 3: President has a great respect for that. But we work
- 3:16Speaker 3: Jared Kushner and I and under the leadership of Senator
- 3:20Speaker 3: Mark of Not Senator Secretary of State Marco Rumer, former senator,
- 3:24Speaker 3: but he's the greatest Secretary of State, so I'm going
- 3:27Speaker 3: to use that title. We've been working all weekend on this,
- 3:31Speaker 3: and so the Israelis are brought into this. As the
- 3:35Speaker 3: Prime Minister said, they want to do it the easy
- 3:38Speaker 3: way first, So no threats. Let's see if we can
- 3:41Speaker 3: peacefully get everybody home on both sides, by the way,
- 3:44Speaker 3: on the Palestinian side as well as the Israeli side.
- 3:47Speaker 2: You know, as we look at the map, it is
- 3:48Speaker 2: kind of a phased situation with the withdrawal and all
- 3:52Speaker 2: these things that have to happen. There's a lot of
- 3:54Speaker 2: pieces that are moving here right.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Correct, Well, it has to be. It has to be
- 3:57Speaker 3: because a new government is going to come in and
- 4:00Speaker 3: that will be in large part Palestinians governing Palestinians, and
- 4:05Speaker 3: so that new government has a lot to do. They
- 4:07Speaker 3: need to get a security force in there, and we
- 4:10Speaker 3: were just upstairs as a matter of fact, talking about
- 4:13Speaker 3: this with a particular country as to whether they could
- 4:16Speaker 3: handle the job. So I think you can't withdraw all
- 4:19Speaker 3: together until you get the security forces in there.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And so the difference is the buy in, right, the
- 4:24Speaker 2: buy in from the Gulf States, the buy in from
- 4:26Speaker 2: the region, correct the pressure on Hamas.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Remember this thing has been brewing for seventy five years.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I mean, no one could figure it out, and so
- 4:35Speaker 3: I think it's sort of astonishing to many people that
- 4:38Speaker 3: it could happen this fast. But that's what happens when
- 4:41Speaker 3: you get President Trump bought in to the fact that
- 4:45Speaker 3: he wants to see a peace deal here. This is
- 4:47Speaker 3: how this is how efficiently it moves. You want to
- 4:50Speaker 3: put chances on it, I'd say I'm very optimistic, That's
- 4:55Speaker 3: what i would say, and I'm hopeful. At the same time,
- 4:59Speaker 3: I really am hope because I've met people on both
- 5:01Speaker 3: sides and this needs to end.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Russia Ukraine totally different situation. We'll talk about that another time.
- 5:08Speaker 2: We appreciate your time, Steve Wycoff, Thanks so much, always
- 5:11Speaker 2: my pleasure.
