- 1:38Speaker 3: All right, we are finally in the week of the
- 1:41Speaker 3: NFL Draft. I will be leaving a little bit later
- 1:44Speaker 3: on today two head two said draft. Looking forward to
- 1:49Speaker 3: a great week there in Pittsburgh and just looking forward
- 1:53Speaker 3: to finding out where these guys are going to go
- 1:56Speaker 3: and not having to speculate what's gonna happen.
- 1:59Speaker 4: What's your schedule like, So you're headed to Pittsburgh today
- 2:01Speaker 4: and then you got just four straight days of but
- 2:05Speaker 4: kicking serious radio.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Early morning on Wednesday, they have a play sixty event
- 2:11Speaker 3: where all the guys that are invited to the draft
- 2:13Speaker 3: go and they host a youth football camp for kids
- 2:16Speaker 3: in the area. So after when they're done with that,
- 2:19Speaker 3: we'll interview those guys as they come off the field.
- 2:23Speaker 3: We did that last year. It was a lot of fun.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Then we'll do a show Wednesday from there like a
- 2:29Speaker 3: normal I guess it'll be three to six, three to
- 2:33Speaker 3: six eastern, Yeah, three six Eastern time.
- 2:36Speaker 5: And then Thursday, I think we have three shows.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I think we have one in the morning, our normal
- 2:42Speaker 3: afternoon show, and then the draft and then Friday, same situation.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Y'all do the show.
- 2:49Speaker 4: During the draft every day, so like the primetime stuff,
- 2:54Speaker 4: you will do that, okay.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yes, and then as the guys walk off the stage,
- 3:00Speaker 3: they walk to us, and so we'll interview any of
- 3:02Speaker 3: the guys that are there that got drafted, we'll interview
- 3:04Speaker 3: them right.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Off the stage.
- 3:06Speaker 4: How many so a draft pick gets drafted, he comes
- 3:09Speaker 4: out there in the first round, he comes out, takes
- 3:11Speaker 4: his picture with Goodell, puts his hat on, does that
- 3:14Speaker 4: whole deal? Comes off the stage? How many intert like
- 3:17Speaker 4: does he do?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Does he do?
- 3:18Speaker 5: TV? Radio? Done? TVs? Team?
- 3:26Speaker 3: Like the teams you know they got like their reporters
- 3:30Speaker 3: or whatever. Okay, yeah, yeah, and debat writers for that
- 3:32Speaker 3: for that team.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:35Speaker 5: So then Friday, normal show, and then was the second
- 3:39Speaker 5: third round?
- 3:40Speaker 3: Right, second third round Friday, and then Saturdays where you
- 3:44Speaker 3: gotta get a lot.
- 3:46Speaker 2: That's the day.
- 3:46Speaker 5: That's the day.
- 3:47Speaker 2: That's the day you and the general are going.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Me and the General be there for the fourth, fifth, sixth,
- 3:52Speaker 3: and seventh round.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Now, he doesn't usually dabble in NFL stuff.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Right, not as much, Okay, but you can kind of
- 3:58Speaker 3: have a crossover because these guys are all college players.
- 4:02Speaker 3: So like you try to get an NFL guy and
- 4:04Speaker 3: a college guy, and the college guy gives you kind of.
- 4:06Speaker 4: I would almost think it's easier for the college guys
- 4:09Speaker 4: to talk about drash because you're talking about how they
- 4:12Speaker 4: did in college. Right now, y'all can NFL folks can
- 4:15Speaker 4: talk about the need that they're fitted filling. But yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 4: especially for a Saturday type situation, got to have a
- 4:23Speaker 4: college guy there because you know, chances are a lot
- 4:26Speaker 4: of those guys aren't making the team.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Right, you know, Edge Rusher out of.
- 4:33Speaker 3: You know, Western Michigan, Like, you gotta you gotta have
- 4:36Speaker 3: a book on him. I gotta have a profile on
- 4:38Speaker 3: him when he gets selected. There's gonna be somebody in
- 4:41Speaker 3: your ear says this player just went. This is where
- 4:43Speaker 3: you went. You announce it, then you gotta go. God
- 4:47Speaker 3: bless you man, and you got to go. So all right,
- 4:52Speaker 3: the word you know, the binders, the binders ready to go.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I would assume you're ready though, Like this, I mean
- 5:00Speaker 4: you've had three or four weeks of mock drafts every
- 5:03Speaker 4: other day. Like the draft to me, like until I
- 5:07Speaker 4: got into doing this show, the draft is always really
- 5:11Speaker 4: annoying to me, Like I've never really like, yeah, I
- 5:14Speaker 4: don't really care where you guys are going. Like I
- 5:17Speaker 4: like putting it on and hearing the background noise because
- 5:20Speaker 4: I like the like the chimes, like the noises. It's
- 5:22Speaker 4: good background. I like seeing where L s U people go. Right,
- 5:26Speaker 4: But like I've never been locked in to be like, oh,
- 5:28Speaker 4: who the who the Packers taking the Saint's gonna get
- 5:31Speaker 4: this year, just because like when we were playing, Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 4: the guys that came in, like they're all desper dumb rookies. Yeah,
- 5:40Speaker 4: dumb rookies no matter where they were drafted. Over your
- 5:43Speaker 4: first round or on defense, you're gonna suck.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I do first least.
- 5:50Speaker 3: So I was raised on the draft, like my family,
- 5:52Speaker 3: like really we watched the draft for I just just
- 5:57Speaker 3: watched it, like it was always on we oh yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 3: sit down for thirty minutes, get back up, go grab
- 6:03Speaker 3: a snack, whatever, come back, watch you for thirty more minutes.
- 6:06Speaker 5: So there's a big part of like what we did
- 6:10Speaker 5: growing up. We loved it. So I always look forward.
- 6:14Speaker 3: To it, just because in high school and now in
- 6:19Speaker 3: the transfer Portland College, like you get to make the decision,
- 6:23Speaker 3: you get to choose where you go.
- 6:25Speaker 5: I find it fascinating that in the draft you don't have.
- 6:28Speaker 3: A say, so you could be like there's players that
- 6:32Speaker 3: are going to be there on Thursday that could end
- 6:35Speaker 3: up on the East Coast, they could end up on
- 6:37Speaker 3: the West Coast, they could end up in the Midwest.
- 6:40Speaker 5: They could end up in the South and they have
- 6:42Speaker 5: no idea.
- 6:43Speaker 3: You could be in Miami, you could be in Seattle,
- 6:45Speaker 3: you could be in New Orleans, you could be in Chicago,
- 6:48Speaker 3: and before that day, you'd have no idea where you're
- 6:50Speaker 3: going to be. So I need to like the element.
- 6:53Speaker 2: But everybody's gonna smile.
- 6:54Speaker 4: But a lot of people are going to be smiling
- 6:56Speaker 4: through disappointment because they're going to be going to a
- 6:59Speaker 4: team they don't really want to go to a Green Bay.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I did not want to go to Green Bay.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Now you don't want to go, but you know, to
- 7:07Speaker 4: that point, I was actually very excited. I mean, obviously
- 7:10Speaker 4: I was like, I just wanted to hear my name.
- 7:11Speaker 4: It doesn't matter where, you just want to go. But
- 7:15Speaker 4: I did celebrate when the Packers took Brian Brown in
- 7:18Speaker 4: the second round because I was like, oh, yeah, it's
- 7:20Speaker 4: off the board. Don't have to go to Green Bay.
- 7:23Speaker 4: I'm a Southern guy, It's true, but I'm very glad
- 7:29Speaker 4: they did.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Glad I wasn't. The Jaguars had a six month career.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Who knows what quarterback they take that year, I don't,
- 7:38Speaker 5: I don't remember. So we looked this up the other day.
- 7:41Speaker 5: I don't know if they did take one.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know if they did either.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I'm just saying it, like a lot of this, like
- 7:47Speaker 4: in as players getting ready for the draft, you just
- 7:49Speaker 4: have to go. You just have to hope that you
- 7:51Speaker 4: go to the right situation.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Because you've seen it.
- 7:54Speaker 4: You saw a lot of really good players never make it,
- 7:56Speaker 4: and you saw a lot of mediocre players make it.
- 7:58Speaker 4: For a long time. It's just about situation. It's all
- 8:01Speaker 4: about timing. It's all about what's coaching staff, who's like
- 8:04Speaker 4: if you get into a situation, do like is the
- 8:07Speaker 4: right person there that falls in love with your game
- 8:09Speaker 4: and what you're about and what you bring to the table. Like,
- 8:12Speaker 4: some people never have the opportunity, right, it's just not there.
- 8:16Speaker 4: They end up going to a bad place or an
- 8:18Speaker 4: undrafted free agent chooses the wrong place to go to.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Right.
- 8:23Speaker 4: So it's there's a lot of obviously a lot of
- 8:25Speaker 4: skill involved, a lot of preparation, but there is luck
- 8:28Speaker 4: involved with this, especially once you bump out of the
- 8:30Speaker 4: first and second round. There's a lot of luck in
- 8:34Speaker 4: having a link the NFL career.
- 8:38Speaker 5: That is so true because I.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Say luck and I hate that using that word because
- 8:43Speaker 4: there's a lot of hard work that goes into it,
- 8:45Speaker 4: but there's a lot of like you have to you
- 8:47Speaker 4: have to get in the right situation, right, I certainly did.
- 8:50Speaker 4: I got a fantastic situation. I played with guys both
- 8:54Speaker 4: places that I played that they drafted somebody at their position.
- 9:00Speaker 4: They were an undrafted free agent.
- 9:02Speaker 3: The guy they drafted in their position got nicked up
- 9:05Speaker 3: in camp, missed four days. The undrafted free agent made
- 9:09Speaker 3: two plays in those four days that stood out, and
- 9:13Speaker 3: that player took that drafted guy's spot.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Yep, I saw it. And you have to be ready
- 9:17Speaker 4: for the seven times. You have to be ready for
- 9:19Speaker 4: the moment. Oh yeah, so it's gonna be. That's why
- 9:22Speaker 4: I like to say I hate that word someone Like
- 9:25Speaker 4: people have come up to me and be like, hey man,
- 9:27Speaker 4: you got real lucky, and I'm like, I hate you
- 9:29Speaker 4: right now, screw you, pal, Like, Okay, I had I
- 9:33Speaker 4: gotten some good opportunities, but I was always ready.
- 9:36Speaker 5: And those are the people that do it like you
- 9:37Speaker 5: have to be ready to find its end zone by itself.
- 9:40Speaker 5: I had to throw it there now. Yeah, I go.
- 9:43Speaker 4: You know, got the opportunity, which is great, which is
- 9:46Speaker 4: not many not everybody.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Gets the opportunity.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's but I saw so many like really
- 9:51Speaker 4: good players come through camp and they got cut and
- 9:56Speaker 4: they never made it anywhere.
- 9:57Speaker 5: It's just you know, they just didn't never had that
- 10:00Speaker 5: never had that chance. Yeah, we had.
- 10:02Speaker 3: We had a guy I think he's your teammates Seattle,
- 10:04Speaker 3: maybe Brian Walters. He might have been maybe I'll miss
- 10:07Speaker 3: each other.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I had to look it up, but he was a
- 10:09Speaker 3: receiver out of Cornell and he'd been like pulling out
- 10:13Speaker 3: in one on ones, like just cooking everybody. And we're like,
- 10:16Speaker 3: why y'all not like putting this guy in the game,
- 10:19Speaker 3: Like why is he not getting an opportunity? And then
- 10:22Speaker 3: we're playing in like you don't know, second preseason game,
- 10:25Speaker 3: third preseason or something, late in the game and they
- 10:27Speaker 3: put him back there a kick returner. He hadn't even
- 10:30Speaker 3: done it. He takes the kick all the way to
- 10:32Speaker 3: the house. He was like, oh man, I got we
- 10:34Speaker 3: didn't know you had, Like what do you mean you
- 10:37Speaker 3: didn't know? One on ones nobody can cover him, but
- 10:40Speaker 3: y'all just don't put him into the team drill. And
- 10:42Speaker 3: all of a sudden, that next practice here's b dub
- 10:45Speaker 3: and all the drills, and it's like, y'all that dumb yep,
- 10:50Speaker 3: like you gotta wait till he returns the kick in
- 10:51Speaker 3: a meaningless preseason game where they had plumbers out there
- 10:54Speaker 3: covering it up, and then he ended up having like
- 10:57Speaker 3: a eight year career, won.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Super Bowl with Yeah, that's always.
- 11:02Speaker 4: It was always kind of funny to me too, like
- 11:04Speaker 4: being in a NFL organization and I was one of
- 11:06Speaker 4: the really goes with the Packers, like you would think
- 11:09Speaker 4: like always, and you think about this with everything, all
- 11:12Speaker 4: all higher ups and everything, like you would think the
- 11:14Speaker 4: boss is at a big company, You think the government,
- 11:16Speaker 4: You think like all these people in charge of these
- 11:20Speaker 4: very high level institutions know exactly what they're doing at
- 11:24Speaker 4: all times. They're very calculated. They're the best of the best,
- 11:27Speaker 4: the smartest. They see everything, can't get anything pass. I
- 11:31Speaker 4: was like it was like a welcome to like adulthood
- 11:34Speaker 4: moment where I was like, all right, these guys run
- 11:36Speaker 4: the Packers, but like they're still human. They make they
- 11:40Speaker 4: don't see everything. They make mistakes like they and sometimes
- 11:44Speaker 4: they make dumb mistakes.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Like everybody doesn't. That was like a so just to
- 11:49Speaker 2: your point.
- 11:49Speaker 4: The coaches saw it, they just chose not to see
- 11:52Speaker 4: it until he forced them in a game situation to
- 11:56Speaker 4: look at his body of work. And not everybody gets
- 12:01Speaker 4: that chance, but the kids right now, they got an
- 12:05Speaker 4: opportunity to hear their names selected. And the higher the
- 12:10Speaker 4: number there is, or the lower the number is, excuse me, Yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 4: the better chances that they are, the more opportunities they'll get.
- 12:16Speaker 5: So, yeah, that is very true as well.
- 12:21Speaker 3: First round, second round guys, they can be bad football
- 12:25Speaker 3: players and they're going to be on the team. Third
- 12:27Speaker 3: rounds like seventy five eighty percent, unless you just have
- 12:31Speaker 3: a horrible camp.
- 12:32Speaker 4: I've seen third rounds get cota. The lower you go,
- 12:34Speaker 4: the more mistakes you can make. Yeah, I say, if
- 12:38Speaker 4: you're a six seventh rounder, you can't. You can't make
- 12:40Speaker 4: the same mistake twice.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Nope. Especially then if you.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Get undrafted, you know you probably won't have the opportunity
- 12:47Speaker 4: to make a mistake because you're not going to get
- 12:49Speaker 4: that many opportunities to do it. But if you someone
- 12:54Speaker 4: does get a twisted ankle and you get in.
- 12:56Speaker 2: There, better not make a mistake.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Your one shot.
- 13:00Speaker 4: It's your one shot, and you can make a play
- 13:07Speaker 4: confirmed Brian Walters was also your teammate in Seattle.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Yeah, for a full year. How do you not remember
- 13:18Speaker 3: your team was? He wasn't there twelve go scrubs his
- 13:26Speaker 3: face Seattle Seahawks. I didn't see his face twenty twelve.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I think that's that's Wikipedia. Anyone could change that. He
- 13:35Speaker 3: was my teammate and your teammate. Okay, he was not
- 13:38Speaker 3: my teammate. Huh, he was not my teammate twenty twelve,
- 13:42Speaker 3: Seattle Seahawks. No, were you in the Seahawks in twenty twelve?
- 13:48Speaker 5: I was?
- 13:49Speaker 2: He was not.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Are you a bad teammate?
- 13:55Speaker 2: Great teammate?
- 13:55Speaker 5: You only knew the stars as Marshall? Oh like Marshaw?
- 14:01Speaker 4: No, because he's so he's a good ping pong player, right, yes, Okay,
- 14:05Speaker 4: So I saw him this following year in a preseason
- 14:08Speaker 4: game against the Seahawks. He's like, man, I wish I
- 14:10Speaker 4: was here last year. I heard you ran the place
- 14:12Speaker 4: in ping pong, and so at that year he was running.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Okay, So you do you know who he is?
- 14:16Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:16Speaker 5: I know who he is, all right, going off Wikipedia.
- 14:19Speaker 2: And i'd beat the breaks album and ping pong.
- 14:24Speaker 5: I do like that. That's how you remember who that
- 14:26Speaker 5: person was.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Golden Tate thought he was good. Oh, get off the table.
- 14:33Speaker 4: He was good though he's a lefty.
- 14:36Speaker 2: That's the only reason, like golf cross handed to cross
- 14:39Speaker 2: handed swinger.
- 14:40Speaker 5: So he lined up lefty or left hand, righty, righty.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Left hand low golf swing and it's pretty good too.
- 14:52Speaker 4: One of the best hands I've seen, though. He went
- 14:54Speaker 4: to the whole NFL season. No drops, pretty good or
- 14:59Speaker 4: maybe like multiple business.
- 15:00Speaker 5: Yeah, there was other stuff that came out Golden Tat
- 15:03Speaker 5: and Seattle. We don't have time to talk about that.
- 15:04Speaker 3: We got to take a break more on TV when

- 17:28Speaker 3: homepage of their website. All at Community Steel co dot com. So,
- 17:36Speaker 3: yesterday we were talking about Garrett Nesmeyer's injury and he
- 17:42Speaker 3: had assists on his spine and that was what was
- 17:44Speaker 3: causing his discomfort and his abdomen and if he had
- 17:49Speaker 3: a procedure, if it flared back up, it would only
- 17:51Speaker 3: be a two or three week deal. If you drafted
- 17:55Speaker 3: Garrett Nesmeyer, would you just make him go ahead and
- 17:58Speaker 3: have the procedure and not probably flare up. Yeah, because
- 18:02Speaker 3: if it flared up, we saw how bad it can get. Right, Yeah,
- 18:05Speaker 3: you know, two or three weeks and literally like bait,
- 18:08Speaker 3: like for the stitches to heal. Mm hm, why not
- 18:11Speaker 3: you go ahead and do it?
- 18:13Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:13Speaker 4: No, if I'm drafting him, I'm having that a requirement
- 18:17Speaker 4: like now and then maybe get through. Maybe this is
- 18:21Speaker 4: a mid to into June situation. I want my drafted
- 18:26Speaker 4: quarterback that you know, presumably goes in the third fourth
- 18:30Speaker 4: round I'm assuming, I guess, potentially second, depending on how
- 18:34Speaker 4: everything lays out. I want him learning the playbook and
- 18:41Speaker 4: practicing and OTAs and stuff as soon as he can,
- 18:43Speaker 4: especially if he he's not if it's not a flare up,
- 18:46Speaker 4: I guess. So this is an into into June situation
- 18:50Speaker 4: to me, I get it right and then maybe the
- 18:53Speaker 4: first week of training camp you maybe take it easy,
- 18:55Speaker 4: like we'll get you get your legs back under you,
- 18:58Speaker 4: blah blah blah, because I'm assuming if you have that
- 19:00Speaker 4: kind of surgery, I don't really know. I know they
- 19:03Speaker 4: can do a lot with like robotics and things like
- 19:05Speaker 4: that where the recovery is not as bad and it's
- 19:07Speaker 4: really it's a lot faster, but I don't know how much.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Like you can work out and stuff to get ready
- 19:12Speaker 4: for training to be out two or three weeks and
- 19:14Speaker 4: it would be mainly for the stitches to heal.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Yeah, so if you get it post OTA's post mini
- 19:22Speaker 3: camp like you're talking about, you'll be I think you
- 19:25Speaker 3: would be ready to go by camp three weeks.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you'd be ready to go. You get maybe not
- 19:29Speaker 4: in the shape you want to be, but yeah, if
- 19:33Speaker 4: you're a quarterback, you have to be in shape.
- 19:35Speaker 2: That's a great point, right just out there plain catch.
- 19:42Speaker 5: The most I mean the most steps. You'll take it
- 19:45Speaker 5: one time or seven?
- 19:46Speaker 4: So yeah, a couple of seven steps back, then a
- 19:51Speaker 4: couple of steps forward. It's tough, man, eleven steps easy,
- 19:58Speaker 4: all right.
- 19:58Speaker 5: I'm just there's no finish into the code. We're just joking.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Guys, Quarterbacks work hard, you were joking. Watch yourself, use
- 20:08Speaker 4: your next words wisely.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I think I mean, even if
- 20:12Speaker 3: he wanted to have it immediately, I mean I think,
- 20:16Speaker 3: I mean, I hear what you're.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Saying, but just to get out of the way, I mean,
- 20:19Speaker 4: it goes fifth, sixth, seventh, sure, yeah you go second.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Third, fourth, Yeah, a little bit more stability, yeah yeah, but.
- 20:30Speaker 4: It's not I don't know if at this point it
- 20:32Speaker 4: won't be his like I understand his. I guess they
- 20:35Speaker 4: just found out. Did they just found out about this?
- 20:38Speaker 5: Well?
- 20:38Speaker 3: Yeah, the combine Well, teams have known for a couple
- 20:40Speaker 3: of weeks, but yeah, the Combine physical was the one
- 20:43Speaker 3: that found it.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 3: I almost like and look, this is like, hey, this
- 20:50Speaker 3: hurts right here. I'm not looking for a cyst that's
- 20:53Speaker 3: on your spine. Yeah, that's not you know what I'm saying. Right,
- 20:57Speaker 3: So it's like, okay, the combine is this thorough of
- 21:00Speaker 3: a physical as you'll ever have in your life. I
- 21:04Speaker 3: didn't miss a game, and I was in that thing,
- 21:07Speaker 3: that tube for like seven hours, like legit, seven hours,
- 21:10Speaker 3: like three hours one time, two hours.
- 21:12Speaker 4: It's ridiculous soaking. All that radiation is awful, unnecessary radiation.
- 21:18Speaker 5: And one like.
- 21:21Speaker 3: With where we're at in revenue and these guys making money.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Can these major colleges just give that kind of physical
- 21:28Speaker 3: for all their scholarship players.
- 21:30Speaker 4: I mean, we've talked to Doc about that when he's
- 21:33Speaker 4: come on the show about how strenuous are these players
- 21:37Speaker 4: coming that during the transfer Porter were like, you know
- 21:40Speaker 4: you're gonna get these guys are getting a million plus
- 21:43Speaker 4: to come, but you're not treating them like it hadn't
- 21:47Speaker 4: got to the point where the university is treating it
- 21:50Speaker 4: like a free agent visit in the NFL. But they
- 21:54Speaker 4: got because you're really should because at that point you're
- 21:56Speaker 4: it's a recruiting plus the Yeah. I mean, like I
- 22:00Speaker 4: think it'll all eventually get. It's going to have to
- 22:04Speaker 4: get to more college football, college athletic. It's going to
- 22:07Speaker 4: have to get to more of the professional football model.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Like we've talked about it different ways that college sports
- 22:13Speaker 4: is drunk.
- 22:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 4: I was talking about it yesterday with somebody else. What
- 22:22Speaker 4: every year being a free agent and unrestricted free agent
- 22:25Speaker 4: but entering the portal like all these things that are crazy.
- 22:27Speaker 4: But when you get to that when there's that much
- 22:29Speaker 4: money involved, Yeah, like giving them very detailed medical and
- 22:36Speaker 4: that would include like basically body scans, like yeah, how
- 22:40Speaker 4: are they going to look for assist in your back?
- 22:45Speaker 4: And thank god, I mean luckily they've found it. Right,
- 22:48Speaker 4: But this was an issue, like it was an oblique
- 22:50Speaker 4: issue that we could they couldn't really figure.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Out what the problem was.
- 22:55Speaker 3: I think they have to get to a point where
- 22:56Speaker 3: if you're going to come in through the portal, the
- 22:58Speaker 3: final stage of it is you going through a full
- 23:01Speaker 3: physical with our medical staff.
- 23:04Speaker 5: You're free agent. You are just it is what it is.
- 23:09Speaker 3: How many times did you go on a free agent
- 23:11Speaker 3: visit where you like I didn't play with you in
- 23:13Speaker 3: twenty twelve because I failed my physical with the Seahawks,
- 23:18Speaker 3: Like I was ready to go, ready to sign, and
- 23:20Speaker 3: they're like, hey, we actually you failed your physical, so
- 23:23Speaker 3: we can't guarantee you anything, even as a better than
- 23:25Speaker 3: if you sign here, right, I'm like, well, I can't
- 23:27Speaker 3: come here. I went and worked out for the Bears,
- 23:31Speaker 3: took a small physical at the hospital like all right, yeah,
- 23:35Speaker 3: let's check you out a little bit, went and did
- 23:38Speaker 3: the workout. It went well, and like hey, yeah, we're
- 23:41Speaker 3: going to send you back to the hospital for more yeah,
- 23:43Speaker 3: and more test, like you know, we kind of just
- 23:45Speaker 3: did a little bit. We got to do our due
- 23:47Speaker 3: diligence here because I think we might sign you. Like
- 23:50Speaker 3: that happens in the NFL all the time. Nobody complains
- 23:53Speaker 3: about it. The player is like, sorry, if you don't
- 23:55Speaker 3: want to spend half a day at a hospital, it
- 23:57Speaker 3: is what it is like. If I'm going to give
- 23:59Speaker 3: you a seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars to one
- 24:02Speaker 3: point twenty five million dollars in IL deal, We're we're.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Gonna do a thorough physical, my guy.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and we're gonna figure out exactly what you got
- 24:09Speaker 3: going on again, and you should I never missed a
- 24:12Speaker 3: college game, and I was at the hospital for seven
- 24:15Speaker 3: hours straight. They tugged and pushed and tried to they
- 24:21Speaker 3: tried to find an injury. They got to get that done.
- 24:28Speaker 3: And these sports that are given them, you know, six
- 24:30Speaker 3: figure in IL deals.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yep. Well, I guess to circle back to the beginning
- 24:36Speaker 2: of this conversation.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Yeah, if I'm the if I'm taking Garrett Nesmeyer, I'm
- 24:39Speaker 4: making them get the have it removed. You don't want
- 24:42Speaker 4: it flaring up in the middle of training camp. You
- 24:44Speaker 4: don't want to be the backup of a quarterback, and
- 24:48Speaker 4: I got like as a backup when I was playing,
- 24:50Speaker 4: like they like I had a something like back, my
- 24:56Speaker 4: back tweaked or something. A pregame one time and they
- 24:59Speaker 4: like rushed me in, put me like gave me an
- 25:01Speaker 4: X ray like this is before a game. Head coach
- 25:05Speaker 4: GM or in there like like hovering over me like
- 25:08Speaker 4: I'm the starter. Yeah, And because they got to treat
- 25:11Speaker 4: the backup like that, so like you don't want your
- 25:14Speaker 4: backup to be out because it flared up on a Friday. Yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 4: so yeah, if i'm if i'm them, they treat those
- 25:23Speaker 4: backup quarterbacks like especially a lot of teams because they're
- 25:26Speaker 4: only dressing out too.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Yeah, so they didn't want my back was hurting. We'd
- 25:32Speaker 4: already put the pads on and out in pregame. They
- 25:34Speaker 4: didn't want Jordan Nelson to be in the emergency back
- 25:37Speaker 4: backup quarterback, which.
- 25:39Speaker 5: She was about a Wildcat and not because of where
- 25:44Speaker 5: he went to school.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Being getting nailed it Kansas State US.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Anyhow, I'm glad they got it figured it out though,
- 25:53Speaker 4: because that would be the most frustrating part.
- 25:55Speaker 3: And LSU's had some weird quarterback injuries. Uh huh, I
- 25:58Speaker 3: mean they were like, yeah, Miles, it has one we've
- 26:01Speaker 3: we've never seen it before. Oh okay, cool, great, And
- 26:07Speaker 3: that was like specialists that had never seen it before.
- 26:10Speaker 3: And then Garrett has an oblique that's caused by assist
- 26:13Speaker 3: on his spine, Like what, what?
- 26:16Speaker 1: What?
- 26:18Speaker 5: I actually think that's going to help him.
- 26:21Speaker 3: I think that just took a lot of concern off
- 26:23Speaker 3: a lot of draft boards of it being like something
- 26:26Speaker 3: in his abdomen that potentially could tear something, you know,
- 26:29Speaker 3: that could keep him out for a year. I know
- 26:32Speaker 3: now finding out it's going to be a minor surgery
- 26:34Speaker 3: and he'll be good to go. I think a lot
- 26:36Speaker 3: of teams probably just took that portion of his negative
- 26:40Speaker 3: draft stuff.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Off of it.
- 26:41Speaker 5: Yep.
- 26:42Speaker 4: And I can imagine all LSU fans out there reading
- 26:46Speaker 4: that news or hearing that news for the first time
- 26:48Speaker 4: yesterday where it actually wasn't an injury on Garrett, it
- 26:52Speaker 4: was a cyst on your spine. I could just see
- 26:55Speaker 4: all LSU fans closing their eyes and just shaking their head.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Are you absolutely kidding me right now? The most fluke
- 27:05Speaker 4: situation to happen just Torpedo this season. But I say this,
- 27:11Speaker 4: I said this like a month ago. Without Garrett Nosmeyer
- 27:15Speaker 4: being injured last year, Brian Kelly would still be your
- 27:20Speaker 4: head coach. That is a fact, that's probably very true.
- 27:24Speaker 4: If Garrett Nosmeyer's healthy, you at least win two more games. Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 4: like you're still not going to be a championship team
- 27:32Speaker 4: because that bad. But Brian Kelly is still your head
- 27:36Speaker 4: coach if Garrettsmeyer did not get this syste on his spine.
- 27:39Speaker 5: Yeah, So.
- 27:42Speaker 4: I don't know how you take in that information. I
- 27:45Speaker 4: don't know what you do with that information, but that
- 27:48Speaker 4: is a full blown fact of the matter. So I
- 27:53Speaker 4: guess we I don't know. Do we celebrate it, we do,
- 27:56Speaker 4: we shake our head.
- 27:56Speaker 2: I don't know what we do. But it's just, you know,
- 28:00Speaker 2: kind of is where we are.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Can't change anything, but yeah, Brian Kelly and you know
- 28:04Speaker 4: the fallout since that has happened, I think we can
- 28:07Speaker 4: all just breathe either and say thank God.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, we will step away. We've got more
- 28:13Speaker 5: OTV coming your way.
- 28:14Speaker 3: We've got our got Nick Underhill in about thirty minutes
- 28:17Speaker 3: from now to break down one last time what he

- 31:00Speaker 7: pretty sick.
- 31:01Speaker 2: It's pretty like kids would call it.
- 31:03Speaker 7: High value.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Lit.
- 31:06Speaker 7: Yeah, I would say lit lit.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Two times.
- 31:10Speaker 7: It's fine.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Tickets to the Jazz Fast, which is this weekend, right
- 31:14Speaker 2: it is, but.

- 31:30Speaker 7: There's a lot of people out there.
- 31:31Speaker 2: That oh yeah times, there's like at least almost double digitis.
- 31:35Speaker 7: I tried to find yours and I couldn't find any because.

- 31:42Speaker 7: But for all, this is a great thing that we
- 31:44Speaker 7: do here in Louisiana. Shout out to Miss Becky who runs.
- 31:48Speaker 5: All of this.
- 31:48Speaker 6: Like, there's children that are going through some really hard
- 31:52Speaker 6: stuff that a lot of people cannot relate to. I mean,
- 31:56Speaker 6: they're battling life threatening illnesses and dreams come true just
- 32:00Speaker 6: kind of helps them have a moment where they don't
- 32:03Speaker 6: have to think about all of that and makes their
- 32:06Speaker 6: dream come true.
- 32:06Speaker 7: So just donate a little ten dollars and forty five cents,
- 32:10Speaker 7: And it is.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Hard for a lot of people to relate to because
- 32:12Speaker 4: it's something that you don't ever think can happen or
- 32:16Speaker 4: will happen to you or your family or whatever. But
- 32:18Speaker 4: it certainly obviously happens and affects a lot of people.
- 32:22Speaker 4: And so if you can do something really small that
- 32:25Speaker 4: makes a really big impact, puts a smile on a
- 32:29Speaker 4: child's face.
- 32:29Speaker 2: That that needs a smile.
- 32:31Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean when Kelly and studio.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Honestly in the family too. Family needs a support around them,
- 32:38Speaker 4: and dreams come true certainly does that. So again we
- 32:41Speaker 4: just we encourage you. We're asking you to go to
- 32:44Speaker 4: one oh four or five ESPN dot com, click the
- 32:47Speaker 4: buttons there, it's you can't miss it on the website.
- 32:50Speaker 2: You can donate.
- 32:51Speaker 4: You can donate as much as like anything helps, of course,
- 32:55Speaker 4: but you can certainly donate as much as you see
- 32:58Speaker 4: fit and enter to win you know, a couple of gifts.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Well it's a little incentivation as well, but you shouldn't
- 33:04Speaker 4: need it.
- 33:05Speaker 2: But we got it for you.
- 33:06Speaker 6: Make kids dream and this is like it stays in Louisiana.
- 33:09Speaker 6: So you're making Louisiana local children their dreams come true.
- 33:13Speaker 6: But also if we reach reach one thousand dollars in donations,
- 33:17Speaker 6: their purple sponsors will each match one thousand dollars. So
- 33:21Speaker 6: Chad's Collisions, Subaru of Baton, Rouge, Lewis Mechanical, Patient Plus
- 33:25Speaker 6: and River Parish Contractors, they'll all also give a thousand dollars.
- 33:28Speaker 6: Fantastic if we reach a thousand dollars in donations.
- 33:31Speaker 4: Off the bench, listeners, let's go, let's get it that.
- 33:33Speaker 4: Let's get one thousand dollars this morning. Yeah, and which
- 33:37Speaker 4: will turn into multiple thousand dollars.
- 33:40Speaker 7: Yeah, they call that thousands, to call it thousands of dollars.
- 33:44Speaker 6: But if the OTB listeners can like come in super
- 33:48Speaker 6: clutch and get us to two thousand dollars in donations,
- 33:51Speaker 6: We've got a couple of gold sponsors that will match
- 33:53Speaker 6: the two thousand dollars donations. So First American Bank and
- 33:57Speaker 6: Trust and Budo's Electrical will match the two thousand dollars donations.
- 34:01Speaker 4: FABT So where we drove were dropping the challenge, we're
- 34:04Speaker 4: dropping the challenge out there.
- 34:06Speaker 6: Yes, we're challenging you to get us to a thousand
- 34:08Speaker 6: dollars on TV is very strong.
- 34:11Speaker 5: Is there a way to put which show you're donating from?
- 34:14Speaker 7: That's how you that's how we know.
- 34:15Speaker 6: Ten dollars and forty five cents and we're all the
- 34:18Speaker 6: power the radio thon the Power Hour is only happening
- 34:20Speaker 6: right now on OTB.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Okay, so if you want to listen, do that, like
- 34:24Speaker 3: if you want to make sure like you're standing up
- 34:26Speaker 3: for OTB and not you know those other shows.
- 34:30Speaker 5: Uh, then you do it right now. Yeah, right, do
- 34:34Speaker 5: it right now?
- 34:36Speaker 7: I mean driving maybe like over.
- 34:38Speaker 5: Jimmy who who, Yeah, this is our TV.
- 34:44Speaker 7: Safely, We've got cool stuff for giving away.
- 34:46Speaker 5: Are giving away cool stuff.
- 34:47Speaker 6: I mean a pair of Jazz Bast tickets and two
- 34:50Speaker 6: free concerts for ten dollars and forty five cents.
- 34:54Speaker 5: So this is the one. So they get that in
- 34:56Speaker 5: Kane Swag, Kane Swag in our jersey.
- 35:00Speaker 7: Yeah, two jerseys, y'all are each giving me one.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Cents.
- 35:07Speaker 5: That's a deal.
- 35:08Speaker 7: I mean, I'm not going to tell you what to
- 35:10Speaker 7: do with your your prize, but you can flip those jerseys.
- 35:14Speaker 7: Make that money.
