- 0:04Speaker 1: I sure will. Good morning, everybody.
- 0:13Speaker 2: You are listening to The Voice. Come on, dig me now.
- 0:16Speaker 2: One and only, Steve Harvey. Got a radio show.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Man, oh, man, oh, man. How good is God to me?
- 0:23Speaker 2: And part of the mission and the reason that I
- 0:26Speaker 2: have a radio show is to become a sharer, more
- 0:30Speaker 2: and more of a sharer. You know, I used to
- 0:34Speaker 2: hear my mother say it to me all the time,
- 0:36Speaker 2: but God blesses you to become a blessing. And I
- 0:39Speaker 2: think the more you understand that about yourself, I think
- 0:41Speaker 2: the more blessings will flow your way. I think that
- 0:45Speaker 2: once you understand the principle that, you know, but it's
- 0:50Speaker 2: kind of tied together with some other scriptures, and I'm
- 0:52Speaker 2: not too knowledgeable about them, of course, as usual. but
- 0:56Speaker 2: I do know what I've heard, you know, and you know,
- 1:00Speaker 2: if you look at something simple as do unto others,
- 1:02Speaker 2: as you would have them do unto you, uh, wouldn't
- 1:05Speaker 2: you want somebody to help you if you needed help?
- 1:09Speaker 2: I just know how to get it down there to
- 1:11Speaker 2: where I've been able to understand it. If, if, if
- 1:15Speaker 2: there's a scripture similar that says do unto others as
- 1:19Speaker 2: you would have them do unto you, or that's, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 2: in a prayer, Would not you want somebody to help
- 1:28Speaker 2: you if you needed help? You've heard you reap what
- 1:35Speaker 2: you sow. Do you understand that if you sow discord,
- 1:40Speaker 2: that discord is going to come your way? That if
- 1:44Speaker 2: you hate, hate going to come your way. If you
- 1:47Speaker 2: blog nothing but negative comments about people, your life will
- 1:51Speaker 2: be filled with negativity. If all you do is talk
- 1:55Speaker 2: about people, then guess what? Somebody got to turn that
- 1:58Speaker 2: gun around and talk about you. See, it just stands
- 2:03Speaker 2: to reason. So what I've learned in my life and
- 2:06Speaker 2: through all the trials and tribulations that I've had is
- 2:10Speaker 2: to take those lessons and share them with people in
- 2:14Speaker 2: case you ain't heard it from somebody else. See, sometimes,
- 2:18Speaker 2: and the reason it seems like I'm redundant at times
- 2:22Speaker 2: is which I am. is because I'm always trying to
- 2:25Speaker 2: find a different way to say the same thing.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Because it's a funny thing, man. You got to hear
- 2:31Speaker 1: it a certain way for it to click with you.
- 2:35Speaker 1: How many times.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Have I heard a saying and then I heard it
- 2:40Speaker 2: a different way that it clicked with me?
- 2:45Speaker 1: You know, I've heard this saying right here.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Remember this now. Everybody's not happy for you. We've all
- 2:52Speaker 2: heard that, right? Everybody's not happy for you. Well, that's
- 2:57Speaker 2: very simple. I don't need no explanation. That simply means
- 3:01Speaker 2: of all the people, you know, or do not know
- 3:04Speaker 2: when something happens to you and you celebrating it, everybody
- 3:08Speaker 2: not going to join in on the celebration.
- 3:11Speaker 1: That's all that is. But then you take it one
- 3:14Speaker 1: step further.
- 3:15Speaker 2: My father used to say something to me all the time.
- 3:17Speaker 1: He said, son, everybody come with you. Can't go with you.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I didn't get that when I was 15. Everybody come
- 3:23Speaker 1: with you, can't go with you. He said, you're going
- 3:25Speaker 1: to lose some of these friends you got along the way.
- 3:28Speaker 1: But I don't care where you get in life. Know
- 3:31Speaker 1: this right here. Everybody can't go with you.
- 3:34Speaker 2: If you are constantly trying to improve yourself, you constantly
- 3:38Speaker 2: have to take assessment of the people around you. Because
- 3:42Speaker 2: if you are going to continue to go and continue
- 3:44Speaker 2: to grow, then guess what? You got to have people
- 3:47Speaker 2: that's on the go and willing to grow. Or else,
- 3:51Speaker 2: guess what? You're going to learn a valuable lesson. You know,
- 3:56Speaker 2: the late boxing promoter Butch Lewis. I was talking with
- 4:00Speaker 2: Butch Lewis one time. And man, what a good brother, man.
- 4:04Speaker 2: He said every successful man is doing what I call
- 4:08Speaker 2: he got rope work to do. He got rope work
- 4:11Speaker 2: to do. He got to put in work on rope.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And I'm sitting there listening to Butch Lewis and all
- 4:18Speaker 2: the money he had made and all the people's lives
- 4:20Speaker 2: he had changed and all of the moves he was making.
- 4:22Speaker 2: and his incredible skills as a negotiator on behalf of
- 4:26Speaker 2: some very, very wealthy people. He was just an amazing
- 4:30Speaker 2: man with no education, but he read everything. Butch Lewis
- 4:33Speaker 2: read all the papers, all the periodicals. That brother knew everything.
- 4:38Speaker 2: He said, you got to put in rope. And I
- 4:41Speaker 2: was sitting there listening. He said, here's the analogy, little brother.
- 4:45Speaker 2: He said, you are on rope. There's a thick rope
- 4:49Speaker 2: you have on no shirt. You have on some tattered clothes.
- 4:53Speaker 2: You have on no shoes. Your shorts is cut off
- 4:56Speaker 2: just below the knee and they tatted. You got dirt
- 5:00Speaker 2: on you and you're sweating. There's this huge, huge raw
- 5:04Speaker 2: rope over your shoulder. There's burn marks on all of
- 5:07Speaker 2: your shoulder connected to that rope is a wagon. That
- 5:11Speaker 2: wagon has all your weight on it, all your responsibilities,
- 5:16Speaker 2: all the people you're responsible for, all your children, your wife,
- 5:21Speaker 2: your family members, your employees, your coworkers, your friends. They
- 5:27Speaker 2: all on that wagon, man. They just sitting there. He's
- 5:30Speaker 2: saying what you got to do is you got to
- 5:32Speaker 2: pull that wagon up the hill. Now, only thing with
- 5:35Speaker 2: it is can't nobody help you pull your wagon. You
- 5:39Speaker 2: pull your wagon alone. He say now what you can
- 5:42Speaker 2: do along the way of pulling your wagon is you
- 5:45Speaker 2: can find yourself a good wife, a good woman. He
- 5:49Speaker 2: said that what that woman does is she get down
- 5:51Speaker 2: off the wagon. She find you while you pull it.
- 5:54Speaker 2: She put water on you while you pull it. She
- 5:56Speaker 2: put stuff in your mouth while you pull it. She
- 5:59Speaker 2: kick rocks out the way while you pull it, but she,
- 6:02Speaker 2: but she pulling for you, but she is equally as
- 6:05Speaker 2: important as you are on the pool of the rope.
- 6:08Speaker 2: He said, you hear me clearly now, young soldier. He said,
- 6:10Speaker 2: now I get this here. He says, people on your wagon.
- 6:14Speaker 2: that you're responsible for, but you want the people on
- 6:17Speaker 2: your wagon to help you get your wagon to the top.
- 6:21Speaker 2: So what you hope is that they got their foot
- 6:23Speaker 2: hanging over the side, pushing. They got one leg over
- 6:27Speaker 2: the back, or maybe both legs over the back, pushing.
- 6:31Speaker 2: They might have their butt on the wagon, but they
- 6:33Speaker 2: push you with both legs, their back facing your back.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Maybe some of them facing you, but one of them
- 6:38Speaker 2: got a left leg hanging over trying to push. And
- 6:40Speaker 2: you hope that all them people on the wagon you
- 6:43Speaker 2: pulling is back there at least trying to help the
- 6:46Speaker 2: wagon get to the top of the hill. Here goes
- 6:48Speaker 2: your problem, though. Everybody ain't pushing. Everybody ain't pulling. Everybody
- 6:55Speaker 2: ain't kicking rocks out the way. You got some people
- 6:58Speaker 2: on your wagon that's just laying on the wagon. Drinking lemonade,
- 7:02Speaker 2: looking at you, talking about how long it's taking you
- 7:05Speaker 2: to get your wagon up to the top, looking at you,
- 7:08Speaker 2: talking about why this wagon's so slow. Then when you
- 7:11Speaker 2: start picking up speed, they want you to pull harder,
- 7:15Speaker 2: you to pull faster, you to pull more. Then they
- 7:18Speaker 2: want you to throw what you done earned on the
- 7:20Speaker 2: way up the hill back down the wagon so they
- 7:22Speaker 2: can have more.
- 7:23Speaker 1: But guess what? They ain't helping you get more.
- 7:25Speaker 2: But they got a sense of entitlement that since you
- 7:28Speaker 2: got more, they should have more.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Everybody come with you, can't go with you.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Sometimes you got to kick the people off the wagon
- 7:36Speaker 2: that ain't pushing and pulling and say, hey, man, I'm sorry.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I thought I could do this with you and I
- 7:41Speaker 2: thought you was going with me. But it's clear to
- 7:44Speaker 2: me you ain't nothing but dead weight. And it ain't
- 7:46Speaker 2: my responsibility to carry dead weight anymore. I have carried
- 7:50Speaker 2: you as long as I have to carry you. You
- 7:52Speaker 2: are no longer my responsibility. I'm responsible for my family,
- 7:56Speaker 2: my wife, my children. I'm not responsible for you. You
- 8:00Speaker 2: got to get off my wagon because I'm a man
- 8:02Speaker 2: on rope. I'm on a mission, baby.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I'm pulling. You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
