- 0:02If you are a B2B service based business owner and you are
- 0:05looking to gain clients, create more impact and more new in your
- 0:08business to amplify your marketing message Campbell
- 0:11Rappin and take you through the buyers mastering your marketing
- 0:15and making offer consistently well on the inside.
- 0:22Recently I saw a lightning rod on LinkedIn.
- 0:26A comment from a friend of mine that said networking is broken.
- 0:32It's become a social club where you think showing up gives you a
- 0:36Gold Star, when in fact it's a room full of fellow
- 0:40procrastinators who are afraid to sell.
- 0:45And they think that by showing up, they'll sell to somebody in
- 0:49that room. If you feel cringing right now
- 0:52in your gut and you're like, oh, Christine's coming in half and
- 0:56hard today, stay with me. I want you to win when you're
- 1:02networking. But too many people I know are
- 1:05in endless meetings that are going nowhere.
- 1:09So today on Amplifier marketing message, I want to talk about
- 1:12this. I want to talk about the problem
- 1:15with networking. And I want to invite you to
- 1:18audit the rooms you're in, to audit how you're approaching it,
- 1:23and to check are you busy or are you productive?
- 1:28Because networking can be one of the smartest ways to find access
- 1:32to new collaborations. They bring you into visibility
- 1:36of new prospects and never mistake.
- 1:39That's the goal of collaboration.
- 1:41That's the goal of networking. This is an income producing
- 1:46activity. If it is not generating leads,
- 1:50what you're doing is broken, and broken leads to burnout, and
- 1:58it's avoidable. So get out your pens papers,
- 2:03make sure you record, download and save this episode and share
- 2:07it to somebody you know. Because too many networking
- 2:11groups are simple playgrounds of procrastination.
- 2:17You're surrounded by rooms of business owners who are broke,
- 2:21who aren't seeing significant client volumes and you're in
- 2:27rooms of people who fail to make decisions.
- 2:32And that's dangerous. Every year at this time of year,
- 2:37I audit the rooms I'm in and I say, am I generating activity
- 2:44that is income producing? Am I seeing consistent lead flow
- 2:51from that activity? Am I committed to contributing
- 2:56to the community as a whole? And am I visible in all the ways
- 3:02I can be for the money I'm spending to be in that space?
- 3:08And I just want watch to go, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 3:11What? I'm like, I do not spend time in
- 3:14free networking spaces. I don't need to go into rooms
- 3:19where broke. People are only looking for a
- 3:21free option. My services are not a free
- 3:24option. Podcast is a free option.
- 3:26Events may or may not be a free option, but my services are not
- 3:30free. And so I go into rooms or people
- 3:33who are already buyers, People who buy into paid networking
- 3:37spaces go into paid referral communities.
- 3:40And that is a measure that has proven solid gold.
- 3:46And if I'm in the wrong rooms, I exit and so should you because
- 3:55too many business owners that I have encountered, almost every
- 3:59client who's come and joined our business services this calendar
- 4:02year have said this in a paraphrased way to me.
- 4:06I'm in a lot of networking. I'm having lots of 1 to ones.
- 4:10I'm not seeing any sales activity and I feel a question
- 4:16deep in my gut. Is it worth it?
- 4:22The results indicate no. It saddens me because they're in
- 4:30rooms of broke entrepreneurs who are showing up thinking showing
- 4:34up gives them a Gold Star. They show up with the intent to
- 4:38sell to others in the community, and they are transactional in
- 4:42their mindset and in the experience.
- 4:47And when I hear that, you know what I think?
- 4:51I think that you've been sold a social club where the only money
- 4:56moving hands is yours to the network owner, and if that's the
- 5:01only money that's moving hand, exit fast.
- 5:06I belong to paid networking communities where we pay
- 5:09referrals to each other, so there's a clear goal.
- 5:12The revenue shared from deals one far outstrips my dues to
- 5:18being a member. Did you hear me say that that's
- 5:23the kind of room you want to be in.
- 5:24So if you're not in one of those rooms, come find me and ask me
- 5:27to introduce you to the rooms I play in.
- 5:30If I think you're a fit, I'll refer you.
- 5:32And you can be in spaces that win because you need to be in a
- 5:36room of winners, not in a room of people who are
- 5:38procrastinating. Because if you think that simply
- 5:41showing up and going through the motions is the same as creating
- 5:46sales success, let's be clear. One is busy, 1 is revenue
- 5:54generating. So in your work day you need to
- 5:58be focused on revenue generating activities.
- 6:02So if you're in networking rooms where you are invited to add
- 6:06value but no one asked for that value, where you spend hours in
- 6:11pods tying to socially gamify your social platform, adding
- 6:17comments that go nowhere, or you're building relationships
- 6:22with people who are broken their mentality, looking for the
- 6:25freebie path and are not investing and not selling
- 6:30successfully, you're in the wrong room.
- 6:33And that's not the only room that's out there.
- 6:35Even if it might be what you are experiencing today.
- 6:40I want you to get clear your goal is about productivity.
- 6:49If I'm in that room it has to be a good return on time and money
- 6:55and if it's not, prune, exit and re invest in another space
- 7:03because number one, you've got to stop hiding.
- 7:05Showing up is not the same as creating success.
- 7:11I want you to invest in real relationships, and you never
- 7:16know how one conversation could change everything.
- 7:22But if you don't have intentionality about building
- 7:24that relationship and ensuring that you're aligned in your
- 7:28values, you're moving in the same direction, and you have
- 7:32faith, trust, to advocate for each other, it's a lot of noise.
- 7:38But busy is not the same as success.
- 7:41And busy that doesn't go. Success leads to broke and
- 7:46overwhelm. I want you to trail and track
- 7:52for the next 30 days. How many hours do you spend in
- 7:55networking rooms? How many identified leads did
- 8:01you create? Sometimes those leads are
- 8:04created through collaborative partners.
- 8:06But collaborations are about one thing, sharing leads together.
- 8:11If collaboration is not leading to a lead and you aren't
- 8:15tracking leads effectively and it's not above 0, boy, you're
- 8:21just stuck in busy work, my friend.
- 8:23So I want you to track how many rooms did I go into, How many
- 8:26calls did I spend? How many hours have I invested?
- 8:29How many leads have I created? And here's an important piece,
- 8:32my friends. What did you do with the leads?
- 8:36Did you build the relationships with them?
- 8:37Did you engage directly? Did you call, engage, talk to
- 8:42them? Because you must actually do the
- 8:44sales work. I don't care how you do the
- 8:47sales work, whether you want to do it in person, you want to do
- 8:50it screen to screen, you want to use it a tech platform with that
- 8:53e-mail, DM's or other ways, video and animations, all kinds
- 8:57of choices. But you can't skip the step.
- 9:01And I want you to track work that matters.
- 9:09Because when people do come to me and they do saying I, I
- 9:13invest, Christina, I invest. I know I have to find people.
- 9:16I know I've been listening to you for years.
- 9:18I listened to your podcast. I've been in lots of your events
- 9:20and you always say you need to find strangers.
- 9:22Your business will be built on strangers.
- 9:24And so to get in front of strangers, the effective way to
- 9:27do this is networking. It's one option and it should be
- 9:30an effective one if done well. So you're like, I've met all
- 9:34these networking meetings and I've joined all these
- 9:36communities and I spend 10 hours a week on networking activity.
- 9:40And I say, what's the result? And they go back to me,
- 9:43Christine, I spend 10 hours a week in networking activity.
- 9:46And I'm like, is that the only result that you're seeing that
- 9:50you are in spaces? Are you effective in those
- 9:57spaces? I'm gonna say that the cookie
- 10:01starts to crumble. Well, I've had all these one to
- 10:041, so I said. And what happened in the one to
- 10:06ones? Well, we just told each other
- 10:07about our business. I said, and they say Christine,
- 10:12I just told him about my business and they told me about
- 10:14theirs. And I said, well, what did you
- 10:15take as your next step? I told them about my business,
- 10:22my friends. It's a good start that's not
- 10:26effective, so I want to build on that.
- 10:30When you are in an effective one to one, this is what it should
- 10:32look like. You are clear on the time
- 10:35committed for the call. You go in and you are sharing
- 10:40equally about your business. But here's how you share about
- 10:42your business. I stand for this result.
- 10:46It's a statement, 10 words or less.
- 10:50People who desire that result are looking for the following or
- 10:55encountering the following or can be observed doing the
- 10:59following. You need to give situational
- 11:02context so somebody could spot the pattern of somebody who
- 11:05seeks the result you deliver. And you say if that person
- 11:10experiences that, I want you to engage in introduction and you
- 11:14can think about how you want to be introduced or where you want
- 11:16to be introduced or the platform that you're most visible on and
- 11:20you want the introduction to be made, that I observed this
- 11:25problem and you seek that result.
- 11:27I know a great person who can help you.
- 11:31Would you like me to make the introduction and you make it.
- 11:34And in that meeting you should not ever have a one to one that
- 11:40doesn't have an RY beyond a shared information.
- 11:45Because if so, my friends, you're back being a likable
- 11:47expert. You're not positioning yourself
- 11:49as a must hire, you're not asking for an introduction and
- 11:52you're not going to get a lead. So once you've shared, you say,
- 11:56who do you know that you've met in the last 10 days, this week
- 12:01and the week prior or even in the last 30 days that you could
- 12:05observe that pattern? And you wait.
- 12:08And if you need prompts, you say get out your social media.
- 12:11Who have you been talking to on LinkedIn?
- 12:13Who have you been talking to on Instagram?
- 12:14Who have you been talking on in your emails?
- 12:18There are good a person. Let's make that introduction
- 12:21now. Get the work done in the
- 12:24meeting. And here's what's so important
- 12:27if you want to build your reputation and be a cut above
- 12:30everybody after they've made the introduction that let them know
- 12:33how it goes. Let them know that you met, that
- 12:37they deferred, that they cancelled, that they know
- 12:39showed. Let them know that you moved
- 12:42them to an offer and this was what the offer is.
- 12:44And here's how they offer reinforces the result they seek
- 12:47and that it was a good introduction.
- 12:49And I think this is not required, but we do it so you
- 12:54can expect it from us. We pay out our referral
- 12:58Commission. And that's why if you go to our
- 13:00website, christinecampbellwrapping.com,
- 13:02you'll see a button right on the top.
- 13:04We love referrals. You can refer somebody to us
- 13:06directly. There we will capture and serve
- 13:10and support and reward. I can feel you.
- 13:18Your mind's going, Christine. I think I am in a
- 13:22procrastination of playground. I think I'm surrounded by
- 13:27entrepreneurs afraid to sell. I think even rooms are the only
- 13:31person being sold or money moving hands is me paying the
- 13:34fee to be there. I can see you going, Oh my God,
- 13:38I'm spending so much time but I never track the ROI.
- 13:44No more, my friends. This kind of thinking, this kind
- 13:50of awareness, this kind of tracking and dashboards is
- 13:56essential if you want your business to reward you like a
- 14:00business, you must treat it like a business and you must get very
- 14:05clear on the hours you spend that are income producing
- 14:08activities. And you must go after the lead,
- 14:12serve the lead, make the offer and get to a decision.
- 14:18No if, ands or buts. And if all of that makes you go,
- 14:22I totally get it. How do I do it?
- 14:27Well, we help you people do that every day.
- 14:31My invitation would be come talk to us because we help you
- 14:36structure this. And as a result when we do,
- 14:40here's what kind of happens. I wanna just share some, some
- 14:42Ahas from my clients recently cause I said every single one of
- 14:45them in the last year has come to me saying I'm networking.
- 14:48I'm in social clubs. I am not in rooms of movers, I'm
- 14:51not in rooms of buyers. I'm not doing this particularly
- 14:54well and help because I know it could work, because I watch it
- 14:57work in your business, because for us, referrals are the second
- 15:01most important lead generation source we have.
- 15:06Here's what happens people that have been in business 8 years
- 15:10have said to me. I was never clear on the
- 15:12distinction between what a contact is, what a lead is, and
- 15:17what a referral or collaborative partner is.
- 15:21I'm not clear when I was messaging how to position myself
- 15:26because I kept talking about me, my name, and my company instead
- 15:30of the result. I stand for the when we get
- 15:32clients and the system that we do to create it.
- 15:36Repeatedly I watched people say I'm booking more sales calls and
- 15:43watching people be aware that they're intentionally slowing
- 15:47things down by going meeting to meeting to meeting to meeting to
- 15:50meeting instead of fewer meetings.
- 15:52More productive. Track the ROI and tweak and
- 15:55adjust your strategy when that happens.
- 15:59I say this to my clients all the time.
- 16:01I don't need you to necessarily commit more hours, although if
- 16:04you're not doing any hours, absolutely you can't build from
- 16:07zero. I want you to be more effective
- 16:10in the hours you're working. And this is something that we
- 16:14are human around. So we might have good seasons
- 16:17where we're highly productive, highly intentional, highly aware
- 16:20of our tracking and really in our flow, our A game all around.
- 16:25And it feels like we're magnetic and we're winning, but we also
- 16:31sometimes take our eye off the ball.
- 16:33Life, life. We get in our own way.
- 16:36We fall back into patterns. It's normal.
- 16:41It happens to me all the time and it happens to my clients all
- 16:46the time. What we build is an awareness to
- 16:50make the gaps as short as we can, and we take horse
- 16:54correction decisively. But this is a calling card.
- 17:01I want you to save the episode. I want you to share it to
- 17:03somebody you know, because I watch a lot of networking rooms
- 17:07in my day. I've been in a lot.
- 17:11Most are social clubs. Most are filled with broadcast
- 17:15entrepreneurs who are afraid to sell, who think going in,
- 17:18sitting in the back row and talking for two minutes and 60
- 17:20is going to move the needle in their business.
- 17:25Before I poop with that too far, will it move the needle?
- 17:30Yes. But at the speed at which you're
- 17:32traveling, it will take you 800 years to build your client base,
- 17:35and you don't have that year. You don't have 800 years, even
- 17:39with the longevity stuff that's making us all look great for
- 17:42longer, you need to get there faster.
- 17:45So my ask to you today is to think prune, commit to
- 17:54productive income producing activities and if you feel lost,
- 17:59you feel overwhelmed, you think I just need a how to solve this,
- 18:06you come talk to me. Christine Campbell Rappin, you
