- 0:00Speaker 1: Thanks for tuning in. Thanks to all the folks that
- 0:02Speaker 1: are here. Thanks to Pep Face Pizza for bringing the food. Joe,
- 0:06Speaker 1: of course, Joe and Bob Cleaver doing their work. Ronnie
- 0:08Speaker 1: back there, Caitlin. Thanks for all your help in the gang.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Of course, our new boss, Michael Johnson Jr. is back
- 0:14Speaker 1: there doing video for us tonight. Last segment, I wanted
- 0:18Speaker 1: to hold off on this, but I wanted to do
- 0:20Speaker 1: something because in August, we lost a big part of
- 0:24Speaker 1: our media. Carl Adamick passed away in August. I was
- 0:28Speaker 1: playing Manchester Country Club, I think August 5th. I had lunch.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I thought I hadn't talked to him in a while.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I texted him. He was doing okay. He was working
- 0:37Speaker 1: on some projects, looking forward to vacation. And then the
- 0:40Speaker 1: following Monday, Maggie Vioni, who writes for ctinsider.com, told me
- 0:44Speaker 1: that Carl had passed over the weekend. Carl basically started
- 0:49Speaker 1: the women's beat almost when you got here 42 years ago.
- 0:53Speaker 1: He's basically known as the team historian now. It's a
- 0:57Speaker 1: big loss for us because, and not only just UConn
- 0:59Speaker 1: women's basketball, what he did for the Manchester J.I. from
- 1:02Speaker 1: a high school standpoint, he told a lot of great
- 1:05Speaker 1: stories about a lot of students, both at the high
- 1:08Speaker 1: school and college level, and I know you were very
- 1:11Speaker 1: close to him. That's a big loss for us.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to say my second year maybe, Carl
- 1:22Speaker 2: started covering our team When nobody else was.
- 1:26Speaker 3: I shouldn't say that.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Teresa Carmel from the Willimantic Chronicle.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Covered our team. And then Carl came along.
- 1:41Speaker 2: And the Journal Enquirer became the go-to for UConn women's basketball.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And Carl treated us as if he was covering the Yankees.
- 1:53Speaker 2: He just thought it was the greatest thing. Traveled all
- 1:56Speaker 2: the road games. Wrote stories about.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Kids on the team. Wrote stories about high school players
- 2:03Speaker 3: that we were recruiting. And he was a fantastic writer.
- 2:09Speaker 2: When I read it, he should have been someplace way, way,
- 2:14Speaker 2: way higher.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Than the journal required.
- 2:18Speaker 2: But he loved what he was doing and Yeah, anytime
- 2:23Speaker 2: any of the writers had a question about, hey, when's
- 2:25Speaker 2: the last time UConn, boom, you just ask Carl right there.
- 2:29Speaker 2: He knows every single stat, everything that you can imagine. And, yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 2: we're really going to miss him. I'm going to miss him,
- 2:41Speaker 2: and I think all the other writers are going to
- 2:43Speaker 2: miss him.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, broadcasters too. Gino, thank you as always.
- 2:47Speaker 3: My pleasure.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 2:48Speaker 1: All right, we'll stay here to do the after show.
- 2:49Speaker 1: For those on the radio, thanks for tuning in. We'll
- 2:52Speaker 1: talk to you Monday night from Hartford.
