- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody good. Morning.
- 0:29I am actually back at the farm and I could not be more excited
- 0:34to get back and see everything after the trip.
- 0:39You know, the trip was 10 days, nine days, 10 days long.
- 0:43I lost track of time. We flew the red eye home, which
- 0:47was not easy, which is why I disappeared for a couple days
- 0:51trying to recuperate a little bit.
- 0:53And I've got Lucas home and he is actually not feeling so well
- 0:59now after a trip like that. Sometimes when you go to live
- 1:03events and you throw yourself in all the way, which he did, you
- 1:06come home and you just get sick. And that's what's happened.
- 1:09He's just not well right now. So no work for him today and
- 1:13he's in bed and keeping him in. But in any event, back on the
- 1:19farm. And I just wanted to, you know,
- 1:23explain a little bit about the whole mentality of why I put him
- 1:29in such an an event to begin with, because, you know,
- 1:32honestly, this this type of event, which was the Tony
- 1:36Robbins Global Youth Leadership Summit, it's once a year.
- 1:41It's quite an opportunity. He ended up going there with 450
- 1:46other kids from 49 countries. And literally they fly in for
- 1:52this event. Parents who have been to live
- 1:54events of Tony's and you know, or online events decided that
- 1:59they want their kids to go. And he had such an experience.
- 2:03One of his roommates was from India.
- 2:06He met kids from all over the place, all over the world, not
- 2:10just all over the US, but all over the world.
- 2:13And he just came back and he has this different air about him
- 2:18where he's more confident, he's more descriptive.
- 2:23He's telling me things like they give them exercises and they're
- 2:27all working together. And he was explaining how it was
- 2:30so frustrating to him that they were trying to do 1 exercise
- 2:34that was a marble run. And everybody had a piece of
- 2:37wood that they had to hold that had the track.
- 2:39And then they would put the marble and they had to have it
- 2:42run and go get in the bucket. So the marble would run down and
- 2:45fall in the bucket. And he's like, you know, you had
- 2:48so much time to do it. And whoever had the most marbles
- 2:51in, at the end, their team wins. I said, how many marbles did you
- 2:55get in? He said two.
- 2:56And he was so frustrated. And he said, you know why I was
- 2:59so frustrated? Because everyone was just trying
- 3:02to give their opinion and no one was listening as to what would
- 3:06work. Now you have to remember he's in
- 3:09incredibly mechanically inclined.
- 3:11So he looks at something and right away he can judge it and
- 3:14be like, boom. And I said, all right, So what
- 3:17was the biggest problem? And he said, well, mom, he went
- 3:21like this. Everybody had their piece of
- 3:24track and they were supposed to focus on getting that marble
- 3:28down the track into the bucket. And it was very clear to me that
- 3:32instead of focusing on your piece of track, which is what
- 3:37they were doing, they had to watch the marble and see where
- 3:41the marble was going, not their piece of track.
- 3:44They had to make sure that they were focused on that marble and
- 3:48as it came down, they could adjust their track.
- 3:50If they just kept their eyes on the marble, they would have been
- 3:54OK, not what was right in front of them in this case.
- 3:57And it so reminded me of where Wayne Gretsky used to talk
- 4:03about. I don't skate to where the puck
- 4:07is, I skate to where the puck is going.
- 4:10And it was so interesting to hear him describe something like
- 4:14that. Like if you just watch where the
- 4:16marble is, then you're going to be able to anticipate and adjust
- 4:20as it's coming towards you as opposed to just standing there
- 4:24and not seeing what's happening up above you.
- 4:26You can't make any adjustments. And he knew that.
- 4:29And it was massively frustrating for him.
- 4:33He's like, you know, we managed to get 2IN and he was.
- 4:35So he's like, it was just stupid because nobody would listen.
- 4:39And I said, So what was your big take away?
- 4:42And he's like, the big take away was everybody has an idea and
- 4:46everybody wants their idea to work.
- 4:49Unfortunately, nobody wants to listen to say which idea is
- 4:53going to be the strongest idea and which one should we test?
- 4:56And there wasn't enough time. And I was like, wow, such an
- 5:01such an observation. Now there was more to that that
- 5:03we talked about afterwards about how he could have spoken to
- 5:06them, how he could have made his because he was, he was saying to
- 5:11them, hey, let's do this. But it didn't get through
- 5:14because there were so many leaders that the whole thing
- 5:18about this, remember, it's a leadership event.
- 5:20There were so many leaders. And I explained to him, listen,
- 5:24in life, we all have things where we can be the leader, but
- 5:28we need followers because if we don't have followers, you're not
- 5:31going to get anywhere. So you were just in a group with
- 5:33a bunch of leaders, and this is what happens.
- 5:36And I explained my experience to him doing these exercises in the
- 5:40past. And he was like, yeah, I get it
- 5:41now. I totally get it.
- 5:43And it was just so, so cool. So in any event, we're back,
- 5:49we're happy we're at the farm. Update from the farm while we
- 5:54were gone was the heat was so intense we lost 2 chickens but
- 5:58the rest of them are OK. Lost lots of plants, the heat
- 6:03was just overwhelming, 112° in humidity is just too much.
- 6:09So lots of clean up to do and lots of things to work through.
- 6:14But I'm very grateful to be home and very grateful to be able to
- 6:17be at it again. So I hope you guys have a
- 6:20blessed day and I will be back and see you all tomorrow.
- 6:24Bye.
