• 1:15
Amble day, caller number five. Excellent. [laughs] It looks like, uh, Mr. Mr. Franzen- This is certainly-... you've already done the face paint checkpoint. I have done the face paint, yes. Mm.
• 1:23
And- How- Well, he, he, he showed up at, like, what? Nine o'clock tonight? Nine o'clock-ish. And then like, yeah, he cr- he cranked out a couple laps and a bunch of, uh, bonus laps.
• 1:32
And so yeah, we, we, we put him to work right away. [laughs] Right on. We showed up late. [laughs] We were talk- we were talking a little bit before this got going.
• 1:40
Uh, Dave, how many years have you done the River West 24? Uh, I don't know. Math, 12 or 13? You just gotta count the tattoos now. That's right, yeah. [laughs] Yeah, I get five laps every year. That's right.
• 1:54
[laughs] Well, there's that one year after my hip replacement surgery where that's all I did was the five lap tattoo. [laughs] I do believe that was my broken wing where I [laughs] did one lap- One...
• 2:04
and just slept in the garage. There's a year- Well, see, if you got the tattoo, you would've got five. [laughs] How about that? The year you guys won or, like, on the fat bikes too, right?
• 2:12
What'd you get, first, second, third? Yeah, third one year. Oh, we got third- First... and the next year we got first, yeah. Yeah. Nice. That was fucking awesome. Jim, how many years have you done this?
• 2:20
Five, but not in a row. Not in a row. No. [laughs] All right. Are you solo or are you on a team? I'm on a, I'm on a team. Which team are you on? Ken's Salty Nuts. Oh, you both are ball sucking nut sackers.
• 2:31
[laughs] Yeah, my nut sackers, yes. All right, well, since that's the- I did not pick- That, that, that-... I did not pick that name... was, like, the default team name, um- [laughs]
• 2:38
And, and then we came up with the better one afterwards. Um, but, you know, they, they don't want you- You can't remember it now? [laughs] Oh, no, I can remember it. [laughs] It was so clever. Yeah, is, is it was.
• 2:48
We don't want to tell anybody 'cause of next year. We, we, we laughed for, like, 10 minutes straight. I, I, I believe it was something like, um, it's not 12 inches but it smells like a foot. [laughs] Not bad.
• 2:59
That would be good. All right. Well, what we're gonna have you guys do is each grab a question- [laughs] It's already too late for that... out of the Head of Knowledge there. And, and, uh, Jim, you can ask Dave one.
• 3:08
Oh, good luck, Dave. That's yours. Oh, what do we got? This is like a monster fortune cookie. Holy shit. Yeah, it's like, uh, JK made these. Uh, thanks, JK- The last, the last fortune cookie I got-...
• 3:16
for making these, uh... freaking had advertising on the back of it. Yeah, look on the back of it. You believe that shit? Yeah. Damn. There's nothing better on the back. [laughs] My lucky numbers?
• 3:23
It's, there's no lottery numbers. All right, Jim, let's see if Dave can get this out. Dave, what, what was your first impression of someone totally or when was your first impression of someone totally wrong?
• 3:33
[laughs] Uh, the day I met you? Yeah. [laughs] You're leaving him hanging, though. You're leaving him hanging. [laughs] Uh, okay, here's mine. Have you done anything lately worth remembering? I don't remember.
• 3:51
[laughs] Well... [laughs] Those were- That was a good one... those were, those were served up like a- I know. Can we, can we just do one more?... a lob over a net. One more. No. [laughs] There you go. Here, one more.
• 3:59
All right, one more. There you go. It is the first time somebody actually asked to do another question, Dave. I don't know if they're big enough. I know there are more. Do you celebrate the things you do have?
• 4:10
The hells yeah. That's not a proper sentence. Hells yeah. [laughs] I celebrate, yes, I do. It, I, I, I don't teach English. Like, I teach welding and math, but yeah, I don't, [laughs] I don't know about that.
• 4:21
Uh, David, what are you looking forward to? Uh, going home and passing out for a couple hours. [laughs] There we go. All right. And that's it. That's a good ending. I, I, I, I'm looking forward to the sunrise. Nah.
• 4:33
And then, uh- [laughs]... you know, kind of about 11:00 maybe, uh, waking up and going around for a grilled cheese at Bremen and, um- Grilled cheese at Bremen... hanging out in the afternoons- That's a good call...
• 4:44
which, uh, the, uh, Saturday afternoon is always a wonderful time in the River West 24, especially if you get a couple hours of sleep. Excellent. Well- Yes... you guys can now go do that 'cause you're- All right...
• 4:55
done with this checkpoint. Thanks, Radio Radio. There we go. Thanks to, thanks everybody for participating. Thank you.
• 5:00
And go get your manifests back and, uh, whatever you gotta do to k- keep rolling- Have fun on your Mary Marys ways... on the 24 River West thing that we're doing here- Have fun on the white... at the top of the hill.
• 5:10
[upbeat music] Oh, way to go there, checkpoint gnome, checkpoint Grinch. Tony's the checkpoint Grinch.
• 5:26
[laughs] All right, as soon as Tony turns down the volume over there, we'll get going. You just be quiet over there. [laughs] Yes, sir. All right. Hey, everybody.
• 5:37
We're back here at the River West 24 checkpoint, top of Reservoir Park. Radio Radio is the name of this one. And boy, we got a, got a big audience out there right now. Look at them. They, they're all standing- Whoo...
• 5:49
there waiting for- Look at them all... they're waiting for entertainment, and they're gonna be sorely disappointed. [laughs] Set, set against this backdrop of- The soon to be sun risen, rising [laughs] sun Soon to be.
• 6:00
Providing [laughs] Uh, we have two new guests at the podcast table. Please, uh, let us know your name, sir. Hello, my name's Joe Milton. Joe is here with us. Wow, who's got the bumping music?
• 6:12
Oontz, oontz, oontz, oontz, oontz, oontz, oontz. Nice music. And we also have... I'm Anna Wanderer. Anna's here, too. All right, so Anna, how many years have you done the River West 24? This is my fourth year.
• 6:23
Fourth year? Okay. Mm-hmm. How's it going out there? Uh, very good. Very chilly right now, but very good riding today. Zesty. Zesty is the word.
• 6:31
[laughs] I brought my long sleeve shirt, 'cause I was like- I forgot my long sleeve shirt. [laughs] Uh, what's your team name? I'm riding solo. I'm Zen Zone. Zen Zone and Riding Solo. All right, Joe?
• 6:43
Um, I've been riding in the 24 for 11 years. Right on. Um, I'm riding solo. My name is Bobby, Bobby, Bobby. Ooh. As in Bobby Portis. Nice. All right, yeah. Woo! Go Bucs. Yeah. Insist.
• 7:00
All right. So, uh, you got JK. JK's with me over here. See him right there with the helmet? Right over here. That's JK. He's got Matt Gates up there who's looking at us. [laughs] Something.
• 7:09
I'm, I'm terribly distracted at times. Yeah. [laughs] Believe me, I, I see all these people, I'm like, "I don't even know what I'm doing up here," but, uh- [laughs] Right on. So JK is our, uh, our puzzle master.
• 7:20
He's the one that somehow gathered that head full of knowledge over there and turned it into questions on paper. Yes, and cut the paper in a highway hypnosis kind of hour-long adventure. [laughs] I had a...
• 7:33
Yes, so [laughs] the, the fruits of my labor are here. And- And the knowledge, the things, and thought provoking group therapy session type questions. Yeah, and the idea here [laughs]
• 7:44
is that, uh, we were gonna ask each of you to grab a question out of the cranium, and, uh, we're gonna have Anna ask Joe and Joe ask Anna, and then it kind of...
• 7:52
Basically we're gonna make this show you guys, so it's better than when it's JK and I. Thank you so much. You're welcome. Right? Yeah. My question book- To, to us, yeah... is extremely long here.
• 8:00
S- one side has propaganda on it, the other side has a, has a question. [laughs] I'll read the question side then. [laughs] All right. Are you ready? Yes.
• 8:10
Would you rather lose all of your old memories or never be able to make new ones? Lose the old memories. Wow. I would go the other way. Understandable. I... That's a tough choice, though.
• 8:27
[laughs] I mean, even- Tough choice... can I keep one memory from the past? No. I'm sorry, no. No, no, no, no. Not according to the paper. No. Yeah. The paper. [laughs] All right, Joe, what do you got?
• 8:36
Anna, what is the most spontaneous thing you've ever done? Oh, that's easy. It's get a haircut here at River West 24. [laughs] [laughs] Oh, rad. Last year, not this year. Oh, nice. There...
• 8:47
Yeah, there's no haircut checkpoint this year, is there? No. I guess that's maybe an- Not that I've come across anyway... deference to the monkey pox or the COVID or something. [laughs] I don't know. But, uh, awesome.
• 8:55
So how's the, how are the roads out there? I know Humboldt's all goofed up. Anybody have any thoughts on the rerouting and/or the, the way you're getting from checkpoint to checkpoint?
• 9:05
Um, it's a little hectic c- coming out of checkpoint two- Oh... and coming south, 'cause you have two groups of riders making left-hand turns at the same time. Right. Yep. Yeah. That looked a little...
• 9:15
Right at, like, Bremen and Burley kind of right in there. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It looked a little sketchy in there, but- And it-... people will get through if they remember the number one rule of River West 24.
• 9:24
Don't be a jerk. It's not a race. Don't be a jerk. Well, it's not a race to get done today. And that also. [laughs] But don't be a jerk. Right on. And, and the sun is up now, so it's not- That will make a difference...
• 9:32
it's not, it's, it's not like staring at- Yeah... crazy-ass lights anymore. It's not quite up, but it's coming. Yeah, well, I can see the shit a little better than I could before. It's going. Right, right?
• 9:39
[laughs] All right. Well, hey, thanks very much for being on the show. Thank you. Love your participation, and audience, thank you very much for participating as well. Thank you all. Woo!
• 9:48
[clapping] Uh, however you get the heck out of here with, uh, your manifest, you can go do that now. Okay, rad. All right, thank you. Thank you so much. All right. Have a good, have a good rest of the event.
• 10:00
All right, everybody, we're back here with a new group up at the Radio Raider checkpoint, River West 24 2022 [laughs] Reservoir Park. We're top of the hill. Top of the hill.
• 10:11
Sun coming up, morning thing, doing what we're doing. Radio, radio. Right. All right, so we've got two new, two new victims at the, uh, microphones here.
• 10:21
Uh, I know Sean already, so, uh, we got Sean, and then, uh, who's, uh, who's guest number two? Oh, I'm Sam. Sam and Sean. S- Sam and S- Sean. S names. [laughs] Sam, how many years have you been doing the 24?
• 10:39
This is my third year of doing the 24. It is my first year of seeing the sunset. We've usually passed out before 4:00, so this is- Fair enough. Congratulations, brother.
• 10:49
Congratulations on keeping the, whatever it was that maybe led to that last time, to, uh, a little bit more on the low. Begins with, uh, H and ends with hams. Uh- Ooh... two hams, the first, uh, first H is silent.
• 11:03
I know those. Had a couple of those. I've had... I know those. [laughs] All right. [laughs] Sean, are you, are you on a team now? We were [laughs] just talking about your team. Are they abandoning you?
• 11:12
Uh, we were, uh, we were on a team, and, uh, I want everyone to remember the name Fate of Death. Uh, that's also the band that I'm currently in. And, uh- Oh, nice...
• 11:22
also we need a metal drummer unfortunately, and I'd hope anyone who wants to contact me, get ahold of Greg. Uh... [laughs] [laughs] I didn't know if we were doing a PSA here. And unfortunately, right, it's...
• 11:37
So it's death metal, and, um, the w- the album comes out in, like, September, but unfortunately it was a studio project, and the drums were Pro Tools, but they sound absolutely like a drummer.
• 11:52
And the only guy that wants to do it lives in Libertyville, and, uh, pshoo, I don't know, man. I don't know if I wanna deal with- Libertyville Yeah, like an hour and a half- [laughs]...
• 12:02
you know, to try to, you know, practice your band, so. All right, Sean. Anyways, uh, if... Why, is this broadcast somewhere else? [laughs] Yeah, this is worldwide. We're, we're- Oh. Oh. See our, see our tower over there?
• 12:14
It's got a big- Worldwide web... blinking light on top of it. 91.7 or something. [laughs] So that's the name of our band, and then, and it's the name of our biking team.
• 12:23
And right now we, we started with four riders, and now we're down to two, so. attrition. You look tired, Sean. I'm g- I'm getting...
• 12:31
I'm, I'm gradually getting tired, and then having to come up to this high-ass hill made me more tired. Well, when the- You know-... when the sun comes up, you're gonna get a second ray of- That could be... sunshine.
• 12:40
That could be. I might, I might, I might become more alive. I believe a thought-provoking question is just going to light you up and just fill you with... Oh. So- Give you all that energy to c- get keep going.
• 12:50
That's what this, uh, that's what this Head of Knowledge here is. Um- Ooh. Oh...
• 12:54
we're gonna ask both Sam and Sean to pull a question out of the Head of Knowledge, and then we'll have- You have to pick it up and pull it out from- Yeah... the throat.
• 13:01
Dude, pull it out from the- Tilting a head upside down. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. I gotta do that, 'cause I got some water in my ear or something. Ooh. It'll pop out. I'll just grab one right away. Yeah, right on. Right on.
• 13:09
My question is fullspectrumcycling.com Yeah, yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Fullspectrumcycling.com. Oh, wait a minute. That's an ad for Greg's store. [laughs] Wow. Whoa, no way. That's propaganda in there. No way.
• 13:19
Uh, all right, Sam, give, uh, give your question to Sean- All right. Oh, God... and let's see what you got. Oh, boy. What makes you proud? Oh, to me? Yeah, that's your question. Oh, yeah. That's your question, right?
• 13:29
Um, proud that I can pedal a bike right now and still be awake. [laughs] Excellent. Yeah. Deep think. And then, now- Powerful... oh, this is yours. If you had to be someone else for one day, who would it be and why?
• 13:46
Wow, that's- Boy, that's too much... that's got a lot- [laughs]... that's got a lot to unpack there. That's a lot of, a lot of different people in the world. What about, what about Beyoncé? I would say Beyoncé right now.
• 13:53
She got a new album coming out, right? She's hot as hell, yeah. Boy. Got a new album. [laughs] And she's hot as hell. Right? Uh- Any th- [laughs] any thoughts, Sam? Boy. Very deep question. A deep question here.
• 14:06
Who would you wanna be and why? How about a person with a lot of g- lot of, lot of reach? Well, we'll go with Bill Gates for a minute. Oh, sure. Ignoring all the Bill Gates shady past and Bill Gates terrible,
• 14:20
terrible rise to fame that he clawed over people to get to, uh, Bill Gates has a lot of power and a lot of, lot of, lot of reach.
• 14:28
So even just getting a day of a taste of what it'd be like to see what influence a billionaire, one of the richest people alive, has would be insightful and potentially- It's not, not a bad call...
• 14:39
potentially big to, to grow my own community, I suppose. Nice. Awesome. I don't wanna be a billionaire forever. Just for a day. [laughs] Just for that, but yeah, just for a day.
• 14:47
Actually, you can, you can do the Mega Bucks drawing th- Oh, yeah, right... Tuesday, I think. You can get a flavor of it right now. You can get a billion right there. Boy.
• 14:53
All right, Sean, Sam, thanks very much for being on the radio program, uh, and audience for being such a great audience out there. Thank you. Thank you all. [clapping] You all can go get your- Thank you, Greg...
• 15:03
your manifest back and your- Thank you for, uh-... your reward... bike's working very well, thank you. All right. [laughs] Right on, Sean. Yeah, thank you, Sean. Everyday Cycles, everyone. Sean?
• 15:12
[clears throat] All righty. Well, it's into the final half hour of checkpoint, uh, radio radio up here on top of the hill at Reservoir Park for the River West- The sun is cresting... 24. It is.
• 15:24
One of, one of these moments. Soon we, soon we will have the bigly sun coming in the skies. And everyone who is wanting, Tony, that they didn't bring a long sleeve shirt. Yeah. Tony didn't- Full stop point...
• 15:35
Tony didn't plan for this. There's a couple bugs out here. [laughs] Yeah. It's like a 60-degree morning. They're now pedaling hard enough. Exactly.
• 15:41
You just have to go to the bottom of the hill to come to the top of the hill. All right, so we have two new guests. We got some audience participants and, uh- Woo-hoo. [clapping] Yeah. There, there.
• 15:49
That's, that's some audience participation right there. You're welcome. [laughs] So to my right we have... This is Brad. Hi, Brad. And? Laura. All right, Laura, that's JKM Sven.
• 16:01
This is the stuff, and we're, uh- This is all of it, the magic. Yeah. So, uh, Laura, how many years have you done the River West 24? Are we counting the COVID years? We can count however you want.
• 16:11
It's just- Oh, yeah, six, I think... six years? Okay. And have you done it solo or on a team? No, not solo, I would die. I would die. What's the name of your team? Riding the Rail Meat. Riding the Rail Meat.
• 16:23
It's a s- it's a sailing thing. Sails. Ah, okay. [laughs] All right. Sort of combined with a bike thing. Yeah. Yeah, okay. [laughs] That's what I blame it on, too.
• 16:31
[laughs] And, uh, you, sir, how many years have you done this fine event- Uh-... the River West 24? This is year number one. All right. Hell, yeah. We've had a lot- Love to see it. Yeah...
• 16:41
we've had a lot of virgins up here this year. Yeah. What's your, uh, in- initial impressions after, what do we got? We're about, uh, 10 hours into this thing. Yeah. Uh, I've yet to put myself down, so.
• 16:53
As in you're a b- Like for a nap?... I'm a bad guy or, or brash? [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. Right, right. This is my first all-nighter probably since college- [laughs]... and, uh, my first tattoo, so that's exciting.
• 17:03
That's it. Yeah. All right. We're rolling. We're rolling. Yeah. Yeah. Where is it? Where'd you get it? Uh, high o- outer thigh. Oof. High outer thigh. All right. Cool. High outer. So that's your very first tattoo?
• 17:13
Yeah, it is. First ever tattoo. It's a bloody mess. Don't- Same thing over here. What's up, yep, JK got his first tattoo- Yeah... at the River West 24, so- There we go... nice... we're in there. There we go.
• 17:21
[laughs] Don't tell our moms. I know. [laughs] I actually just had a conversation, like, at dinner with, like, three mid-80 year olds about... And it was like a time machine into the 1950s. Yeah.
• 17:35
Like, like, "Oh, I think they might..." And I'm like, "Oh my God." [laughs] Well, I kinda really now have to get a tattoo just to- Yeah... spite.
• 17:42
[laughs] I'm, I'm ex- I'm excited, I'm excited for my parents to discover it, but I'm gonna see how long- Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah... I'm not gonna hide it, but I'm, I'm excited to, like, see how long I can- Pull it off...
• 17:54
hi- hide it. [laughs] Yep, yep. Right on. Right on. Yeah. I'm sure they- All right. Well- They're, um, they're probably listening... they, they're not, yeah, they're not here yet.
• 18:02
Since people would probably rather hear you guys talk than us talk, we're gonna ask you each to grab a question out of the, the head of knowledge there, and we're gonna have you ask each other the question that you pull out of the head.
• 18:13
Oh, boy. Probably these are... This chaf here, I think we've already used. Right, right. But the stuff inside should be freshies. Oh, boy. I think we got some freshies in there.
• 18:20
Yes, there's- You can, you can thank JK for whatever comes out of it... there's more than 300 questions in there. Let me go- All I know, oh my God, I know- I'm gonna go deep into the- Going deep. He's got-...
• 18:29
soul on this guy... end up throat of the... That's interesting. All right. Where did this thing come from anyway? The head? Yeah, the head. I... It, it showed up at, at my house, and I- There it is...
• 18:40
looked and the- They're like-... the call came out going like, "Hey, does somebody have a fishbowl?" I'm like, "Well, I have- The head of knowledge... something like a fishbowl." Oh, dang. And so, yeah.
• 18:50
It's almost fishbowl shaped. Yes, it is. All right. Laura, you wanna go first and ask- Sure... your question? Do you own your things or do your things own you? Ooh, that's for me, isn't it? That's for you. Yeah. Yes.
• 19:02
[laughs] Yeah. Damn. Uh, I, I think, I think, uh, for the most part, I own my things. I've, I've done pretty good in the last couple years of my life. I'm, I turn 32 soon, this, uh, upcoming week.
• 19:20
Uh- Welcome. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's my b- So you own your things moving? [laughs] It's my birthday. Uh, no, it's, uh... Like, I don't know.
• 19:28
Like, minimalism is, like, as a, as a priority of mine, so I think the things I do have are important to me, so I, I own them rather than them owning me. Right on. Yeah. All right. Turnabout's fair play. Okay.
• 19:39
You can ask your question now. All right, let's go. Uh, what are the primary components of a happy life? Mm. I think it's all about the, the people in it and the shit that you do with them, like stuff like this.
• 19:57
[laughs] Right. It doesn't get a lot better than this. Yeah. So yeah, all the, all the people and all the stuff I do with them every day, that's, that's what makes me happy. Right on. Not... Except for the crappy people.
• 20:07
[laughs] They can- Have you, have you run into any on the road in the, in the event yet? No, not here. This is all... This whole thing is good vibes. Good vibes. All right. Well, thanks very much for participating.
• 20:17
Uh, audience members, thank you for being- Thank you... participatory. [clapping] [clapping] You may all now go get your just desserts. Thank you. Thank you. Come again. [laughs] And, uh- You know, uh, when-...
• 20:30
we'll, we'll wrangle another batch of people. We're- Think we'll- We're, we're into the final 20 minutes or so- You know, Brad... of this puppy... here we go... and, uh- Love your radio voice...
• 20:36
we'll be back in a little bit. You good, Brad? Sounds great. That's funny. Da, da, da, da. Hm, hm, hm, hm. Hey, everybody. We're back.
• 20:43
We're back on the thing that we're doing here called the Radio Radio Checkpoint River West 24 Reservoir Park- Sunrise Edition... Sunri- Mm...
• 20:53
yeah, you guys are probably gonna- Yeah, it's- If we, if we stretch this out just a little bit, we're gonna get the sunrise right when you're walking away.
• 21:00
Uh, so what we're doing here is, uh, we're talking to folks, and folks are sitting here, and there's some folks standing out there, and there's a guy over here. Hi, I'm over here. [laughs] Yeah. To my right is... Hi.
• 21:11
Uh, Dawn. Hi, Dawn. And... Kristy. Kristy and Dawn. Dawn and Kristy. All right. Uh, I have to say it seven times or I'll forget. [laughs] Kristy, Kristy, and Dawn. All right.
• 21:22
So, uh, Kristy, uh, how many years have you done the River West 24? I think this is my eighth. Eighth year? Yeah. Right on. Are you doing it solo or with a team? Uh, with a team. And the team name being? Judo Tits.
• 21:36
Judo Tits. I... Okay. Do you wanna know the story? Sure. Yes. All right. Absolutely. [laughs] So- Intrigue... our team captain, uh, Jules, uh, has a friend. They were driving in the car,
• 21:50
spotted a Nike bumper sticker, and, uh, her friend goes, "Why does that bumper sticker say just judo [laughs]... Why does that bumper sticker say Judo Tits?"
• 22:00
[laughs] And Jules turned to her friend and she said, "That says just do it." [laughs] And so that, that stuck. Now whenever they, uh, they like, they use it as any kind of phrase for excitement or anger or frustration.
• 22:14
[laughs] Judo Tits. So now we have s- stickers, and I have extras if anyone would care for some. Oh, right on. Yeah, stickers are always good. They go on the toolbox at the shop or- Right...
• 22:23
a computer or- I noticed the sticker, and I was anticipating the name of the- [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] Has to have a story. Ta-da. There it is. All right. Awesome. It's well done. Dawn, can you, can you match that? No.
• 22:33
[laughs] No, I really, I really- Oh. [laughs] I don't have anything as cool as Judo Tits. [laughs] I really don't. How many years- It's a pretty sweet shirt, though. It is a sweet shirt.
• 22:41
Um, yeah, so I'm on a two-person team, and, uh, our team name is For Eddie, so we are wearing, uh, Hellfire Club T-shirts and, uh, listening to Stranger Things soundtracks. Nice. All right. Nice, nice.
• 22:53
[laughs] So Stranger Things seems to have gotten some legs, huh? It's, uh- Uh, yeah... I was just recently reading where they were like, "That's not gonna make it past the first season." Yeah. But apparently it has.
• 23:04
Who would... Who, who knew? Who knew? Apparently the people that make it knew, I would guess. Well, you attach Winona Ryder, and- Yes... uh, everything works out Yeah. 80s nostalgia. So. [laughs] Can't lose.
• 23:14
So Dawn- Yeah. Old, old farts like me, we really, really love it. [laughs] Yeah. My daughter and wife watch it constantly. I'm usually reading a book in the other room.
• 23:24
Uh, [laughs] Dawn, how many years have you done this? Um, see, that's... I'm... I think seven that I've ridden, then I volunteered a couple of years without riding. Right on. So, yeah. All right.
• 23:36
Well, uh, to get to the meat of this thing, we have the, the, the head of knowledge over there. If, uh, each one of you would just pull a, it's from the bottom kinda thing. Yep.
• 23:45
Maybe pull a question out of there, and then we're gonna have you each ask the other a question from the cranium of knowledge. All right. Whatever that thing's called. [laughs] Uh, Kristy, you wanna go first? Sure.
• 23:59
Right on. All right. Dawn- Your question, Dawn, is... What will you never give up on? What will I never give up on? Hm. My kids probably. My sons. Nice. [laughs] That's a solid answer. Yeah.
• 24:16
Good- Yeah. Good, good one to pull out of that stone. Good boys. [laughs] Yeah, for sure. Yeah. All right, Kristi. Is it possible to lie without saying a word? Oh, yeah. [laughs] Oh, yeah.
• 24:31
I'm a big believer in body language. I think people's faces can say it all sometimes. Yeah. Absolutely. All right. Good answers. Good participation. Good earning- Thank you...
• 24:42
your, uh, reward there back behind us for the- Woo-woo... for the checkpoint. And, uh, audience, great job. I mean- Thank you... you guys- [laughs] You guys get the same reward for doing a whole lot less work.
• 24:53
[laughs] [laughs] Enjoy the rest of your 24. And, uh- Thank you... by cracky, the sun is up. It's still just behind the trees. We're about one minute into sunrise, so let's go enjoy that for just a little bit.
• 25:04
Thank y'all. Yeah, thank you, guys. Thank you. Holy mackerel, look at the crowd out there. It's so vast. Yeah. And well lit. Yeah. Now, now that the sun has risen. Yes. Natural lighting. Yes.
• 25:18
[laughs] My eyes are slowly, slowly getting to normal again. Hey, hey everybody, we got a new group. We got a new group here on the, uh, the Sven and JK and Tony show. Hello. Or whatever we call that thing. Right.
• 25:31
Uh, we got a crowd of one, two, three, four, five, six, seven... 28 or something up there. Somewhere in there. [laughs] My estimating skills are- Between zero and 20... probably off.
• 25:41
Around, just, yeah, around there That's JK to my, to my that side, left. Uh, that's- On your right, left on your radio dial... Sven. Sven. I have Sven, and then we have, we have two new guests today. Now we have...
• 25:51
I'm Zeke. We got Zeke and... I'm Liz. Hi, Liz. Hi. Is that a caterpillar on your face? It is. [laughs] Was that the face paint stuff- Yes... by chance? [laughs] I had a makeover done at, I don't know, 3:00. 3:00 AM.
• 26:02
3:00 AM, yeah. I think that's when it was. Yeah. Yeah. Right on. So Zeke, how long have you been doing this Riverwest 24 thing? Um, let's see. What time is it right now? [laughs] Um, 10, 10 hours. Yeah. Right, okay.
• 26:14
[laughs] This is your first year? This is my first year, yeah. [gasps] Yay. Nice. I, I just moved back here, so, um, this is, like, a perfect welcome back to Milwaukee- Yeah... and to Riverwest, so.
• 26:23
Well, thanks for bringing the good weather, 'cause it's beautiful out here. Yeah, yeah. Thank you. [laughs] All right. And, and you, how many years have you been doing this?
• 26:30
I've been doing this intermittently since 2015. Okay, so almost from the get-go. Yeah. Pretty close. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Halfway through. Math is hard. [laughs] I don't know. I don't know. [laughs] Math thing. 28 years.
• 26:43
Whatever. So- [laughs] Yeah. Uh, Zeke, are you doing it solo, or are you on a team? Oh, no. I got, I got my team. I got, uh, half my team. I got Ania and Aaron right here, our, our wonderful captain. Um- Right on.
• 26:54
What's the name of the team? Uh, we are going as the Daredevil Butterflies.
• 26:58
We started as the Friendly Comrades, um, because Aaron had to come up with a team name last minute, but then we're doing, doing bicycling as, uh, the Daredevil Butterflies. All right.
• 27:08
[laughs] But- Got a bunch of laps in already? Uh, yeah. I think with the bonus checkpoints, what are we up to, like, 25? Woo! Once I get the tattoo, 30, you know. [laughs] Right on. Is that gonna be...
• 27:18
Oh, that's not gonna be your first tattoo, huh? Oh, no, no. Yeah. But it's your first Riverwest 24 tattoo. It will be, yeah. All right. And what's, what's your team name? Um, I'm riding in a convoy team- Oh...
• 27:28
so we're one of nine, uh, teams- Holy mackerel... out there. Um, we are the Spokemon. Oh. Um, yeah. I see. So I've got a- We're a team of four riding together and doing all of the bonuses together. Right on.
• 27:40
So the- That's impressive... convoy doesn't have to, the entire team has to stay together the entire time? Yep. Nobody can bow out for one? No, no one can do- Okay... anything on their own.
• 27:47
Well, that's- Yeah, we're on one manifest... that's fairly new. You guys should ab- It's the only way- Yeah... to do this ride. You're never lonely. You're doing it with friends all the time. It's the best.
• 27:55
Next year, Aaron, for sure. [laughs] Cool. All right. Well, uh, to make this show all about you instead of about us, we have the, uh, the head of knowledge there, and if each one of you could grab a question.
• 28:07
You kinda gotta take it out of the bottom of it. It's sort of an interesting gizmo, but- Here. We'll have you guys each- Oh... ask the other a question. Cool. Zeke, you wanna go first? Yeah. All right. All right.
• 28:19
So Liz, what simple gesture have you recently witnessed that renewed your hope in humanity? Wow.
• 28:28
I mean, I think being in Wisconsin and, like, Midwest nice and everything like that, I think just saying hello and things like that and just exchanging a, a smile any- anywhere, I think, I think that's, that's all it's about sometimes is making eye contact and validating someone else being there.
• 28:47
Right on. Um. Awesome. So my question I already know the answer to is- [laughs]... is this your first Riverwest 24 race? [laughs] Oh, well. Well, who put that question in there? Um, no, not at all. That's a good one.
• 28:57
Done it every year. [laughs] So yeah, so first year for, for Zeke. [laughs] All right. Well, we got that out of the way, and you guys earned your, uh, bonus checkpoint- Nice... validation. Woo!
• 29:09
So go collect what you need to collect- Yes... and get your manifests back and continue on your merry way. Enjoy the sunrise. Yeah, it's beautiful. Thank you. They will. Thank you. Thank you for coming. Thank you.
• 29:21
Tony, you got any more coming? It's, it's... Come on in, guys. Four minutes to. Oh, it's four minutes to? All right. If they are gonna be in, they should get moving, 'cause what's the cutoff time, Tony?
• 29:38
Six, 6:00 is the cutoff time. 4:46. That person's taking... Go. And we're back here at the Riverwest 24 Radio Radio checkpoint. Woo-hoo.
• 29:50
We're, uh, basking in the glory of the sun here just before 6:00 AM at the top of Reservoir Park in Milwaukee. And, uh, this is our last group of participants in this here checkpoint for this year, 2022. Yeah.
• 30:05
There we go. Way to go, everybody. We got an audience. We got an audience out there, and then we have two new guests here to my right. JK is over there to my left- Over here... just like always.
• 30:13
But, uh, ladies, please tell us your names Hi, my name's Sarah Sarah is here And I'm Zayner Zayner Yes Right on. You, you must y- you know Tony? Yeah, you know Tony, um, was at my...
• 30:29
I, uh, got married in 2014 at the Riverwest 24, so they made our, uh, they made our wedding a bonus checkpoint Oh, okay [laughs] So got to see Tony and lots of people. It's, it's just really... I...
• 30:41
The 24 is so special 'cause the, yeah, the community gets to see me and my partner through our relationship. It's just so sweet. And now we have two kiddos. We have a five and two-year-old, so it's exciting. Right on.
• 30:51
How many years have you actually- Congratulations Thank you How many years have you done the 24? I've done it since 2011, so yeah, 10 or 11 years. Right on. How about you, Sarah? I think I've done it since 2015.
• 31:04
I don't know for sure. All right And I volunteered a few years before that, so I've been part of it for a while. Sarah, are you riding solo or are you on a team? I'm on a team What, what's the team name?
• 31:15
Pseudoscience Pseudoscience Oh [laughs] Nice. Zayner, what's your team? Ah, Moon Cycle Rights And it's- Of course... awesome. Yeah. All right.
• 31:25
Well, what we're gonna do, and this is, uh, the last time we're gonna do it t- for the 2022 season, is, uh, ask each one of you ladies to pull a question out of the, the head thing of knowledge there, and, um, ask each other the question that you pull out.
• 31:40
We got a, we got some people doing laps here that I don't know how many times they've come by, but they're, uh- They're getting their exercise Yeah. They're walking- It's amazing...
• 31:46
they're, they're walking around Reservoir Park, which is, by the way, one of the greatest spots in Milwaukee if you are visiting our fair town. This is a place to come up and check out.
• 31:54
Oh, spe- speaking of, my friend is here from outside Philadelphia. Um, Marcette, that's where I'm from, and Marcette's here visiting.
• 32:01
And it just so happens that, uh, she's here this weekend RV-ing to California, and it just so happens this weekend was the [laughs] weekend they were in Milwaukee, so it's very exciting. Awesome. Sweet. Very nice.
• 32:09
Well, welcome to Milwaukee. Wonderful. Thank you. All right. Zayner, you wanna go first and ask your question to Sarah? Mm-hmm. What is something you've always wanted since you were a kid? Ooh, that's a tough one.
• 32:22
That is a tough one. These are thought-provoking questions courtesy of JK Living.
• 32:27
[laughs] Um, I guess, so I grew up in a very, uh, tight-knit community of, um, my parents' friends, and I think that I, um, wanted to recreate that. Hmm.
• 32:44
And I think in a lot of ways I have managed that, and in other ways I'm still working on it. Yeah. Right on. Yeah. Sweet. Sarah's turn. All right. How can the city of Milwaukee encourage more bicycle riding?
• 33:00
Ooh, good question. Very apt. Yeah. Well, there... I mean, if, if people follow the Riverwest Facebook page, there's a lot of, uh, debate about bike lanes. Uh, but one thing on Fratney I would love...
• 33:11
It's so funny you bring this up because I've been talking about this a lot. On Fratney, they're making a bike throughway, right? But there's speed bumps.
• 33:18
So if they just carved out a little tiny spot for bikers to not have to go over the speed bump, it would actually be a bike throughway.
• 33:26
Because it's a bike throughway, and they put speed bumps so that cars would slow down, but alls they have to do is just... Just, just build a little path on both sides so that bikes can actually make it a throughway.
• 33:38
Like, they took out stop signs that were really important, and just, like, a lot of things to make it a throughway and... But in my opinion, the stop sign outside the co-op, for the record, should still be there.
• 33:47
It should be a four-way stop sign to get to the Falcon Bowl. But, okay, now I'm off- [laughs] [laughs] Now I'm off my high horse. I'm done. I'm done.
• 33:52
But the stop sign should be there, and, uh, for it to be a throughway they need a little, [laughs] they need a little jut out in the, uh, speed bumps that slow us all down. Right on. All right. Yeah.
• 34:02
Well, thanks for being guests on the last of the show we're doing tonight. I think we're gonna he- get to play our outro music now and, uh- Oh, lordy, lordy It's 6:01, folks. So go get your manifests back.
• 34:15
And, uh, thanks for participating. Thank you. Thank you. See you all on the course. Yeah. Sarah, good to see you. Oh, you too. All right, JK. Bye. Well, that about wraps this puppy up.
• 34:25
[laughs] Yeah In a, in a nice two-hour bow. Right. What are your impressions of this checkpoint? Make it a throughway, the actual throughway Um, it, I liked it a lot.
• 34:35
[laughs] I mean, it's fun to go- But we forgot beer [laughs] [laughs] beer Well, that can be remedied very shortly, though. Yeah, I know. I know.
• 34:44
Let's get the roadies over here and clean this thing up and, uh- That's what I was saying... we can, we can make that happen post haste. I'm, I'm n- now feeling the warmth of the sun as well. I know.
• 34:53
Well, I'm, I've been staring damn right into it and well, I'm using Matt Gates to gate me. [laughs] Right on. All right, everybody. Well, thanks for participating, everybody who did.
• 35:04
Uh, we're gonna throw some of these things up on the old interwebs at some point, and maybe just- If you kept a question, which you didn't, but that's all right.
• 35:13
You'll figure it out Just maybe we'll do this again next year, possibly. All right. Peace out, yo. [sings] [upbeat music]
