- 3:24Hall of Fame. Let me bring him a good friend. Chris Withrow right
- 3:28now from the Benny KEATAM Sean, Chris, good morning. Do you think
- 3:30one day I'll be in the Hall of Fame? Do you think I'm Hall
- 3:34of Fame material? I do, Dave. I mean you should have already
- 3:37been your You've been overlooked for years. Yeah, years, you're just saying
- 3:39that, aren't you? Good? Warning to you? How you doing?
- 3:40I'm doing good. I apologize for it being an inferno in here. Apparently
- 3:46I don't know we forgot to pay the air conditioning building. It's eight thousand
- 3:50degrees in here. Poor Ryan, our producer is pushing buttons on the other
- 3:53side of the oven mits on right now, that's how hot it is in
- 3:55here. Right now. I apologize. Oh, it's okay, it is
- 3:59a little ball The heat doesn't mess your hair up, Chris exactly. You
- 4:01know, I do say that because Chris is ball by choices at the hair
- 4:06for radio for sure. Well I get to face for radio. So what's
- 4:10going on with the Benny Keaton Shrine, my friend, Well, we've got
- 4:12a lot of things coming up in October. October fourteenth, we have are
- 4:17very very very awesome outdoor Bonanza show that we've been doing for years. It's
- 4:23a great opportunity to come out and win some wonderful prizes and help support to
- 4:30Benny Keatam Shrine. On October the twenty seventh, we have a trunk or
- 4:34treat event out for all the children. It's open to the public. There's
- 4:38no charge for that. Come on out. We're gonna have the Charleston Police
- 4:43Department, the Charleston Fire Department, and a lot of our corporate partners in
- 4:46town are going to be joining us and joining up and having some tables set
- 4:50up with some really nice treats and some fun and food and activities for the
- 4:54kids. So please grab your child, your grandchild, your niece and nephew,
- 5:00you come on out. That's on the October the twenty seven. It's
- 5:03going to be around the six o'clock time frame and we're really excited about it.
- 5:08And then Saturday the twenty eighth, the Broomstick Ball. It's going to
- 5:12be a costume party for as. It is gonna be fun and we're gonna
- 5:15have signature cocktails and and and giving away prizes for the best dress, and
- 5:23we're gonna have a really good time. So that's uh, that's all in
- 5:26store in October. But the main thing that we're looking at right now,
- 5:30as we've talked in the past, is is our hall is open for rentals
- 5:34and we have been so busy we are already booking all the way out until
- 5:40twenty twenty five. So is it too late if somebody needs to rent a
- 5:44space for a Christmas party, because that happened to occurred to me last night.
- 5:46You have some times available depending on when you're gonna get it, but
- 5:49I would say that you need to act quickly they are filling up. How
- 5:54many people can you hold down there? Up to three ninety nine? So
- 5:58we say all right, so if you are a company, you listen to
- 6:00us right now. Maybe you're looking for a place to have your your Christmas
- 6:03party, This would be a great up to three hundred ninety nine good say
- 6:06four hundred, four hundred. All rights are short, that's lung as are
- 6:12smaller, but up to four hundred people you can have there in the Shrine
- 6:15and Coryer Street. Plenty of free park, eat and everything. Great place
- 6:18to have your your Christmas parties and get together. Absolutely, and don't forget
- 6:21I guess we have a big concert coming up this weekend. There's concerts everywhere,
- 6:27and please come in make a donation, you know to the Shrine Park.
- 6:30You're not going to find better parking well let parking lot. You're gonna
- 6:33be in the front door. It's gonna be easy way in, easy way
- 6:36out. We'd love to have you and keep us in mind. Again,
- 6:40we do things all through the week. We're available for rental Monday through Sunday
- 6:45and we can do everything from little tiny two three ten five people up to
- 6:50I say again, four hundred people and we would love to take the opportunity
- 6:56to show you around and take care of your events. Let's go back to
- 7:00a couple of those events in particular, you're talking about that kind of a
- 7:01trunk or treat type event that you're going to be doing it. I give
- 7:03us a date for that again. That's gonna be on October the twenty seven,
- 7:08and now as that's open to any any kid in the area. Absolutely,
- 7:12and we're gonna have a lot of corporate partners, some of our financial
- 7:15banking partners, like I said, the Charleston Police, the Trulston Fire Department's
- 7:19going to come in and step in, and then of course all the clubs
- 7:23and units that the Highlanders, the Clowns, the Oriental Band's going to be
- 7:29there. So it's gonna be a lot of fun and a lot of great
- 7:30treats. And we've got some local restaurants that have decided that they donate some
- 7:35food, so we'll probably have some refreshments there too, plus all the candy
- 7:40and fun and music. So we're gonna have a good time and get back
- 7:43to this broomstickball again because I just love saying the broomstick ball. Broomstickball.
- 7:46Yeah, it's gonna be really fun. You know, it's a costume party.
- 7:48And again we we're gonna have some signature cocktails, some spectacular cocktails if
- 7:55you will, and there's gonna be a great DJ with great music. Please
- 8:00come dressed. You know you don't have to, but we would love to
- 8:03have you there. You can well, we'd like to have you come dressed
- 8:05and cost him Okay, please please. It ain't even that kind of party,
- 8:09No, it's not so. But you can get your tickets directly from
- 8:13a shriner or at one hundred Courier Street. And if you want to call
- 8:18in, you can call in at ery Co three zero four three four three
- 8:22nine four zero five. And that again is for the broomstick ball, but
- 8:28there's no charge for the trunk or treat. Okay, it's going to be
- 8:31a lot of Give him a call if you need a place to book a
- 8:33Christmas party, because I mean again, and you've got a full kitchen,
- 8:35full kitchen. Actually we have two. We have a full kitchen load kitchen
- 8:39and the server kitchen. And it's very nice. And I mean anybody,
- 8:43like I said, if you got to your company a family get together,
- 8:48don't invite those people to your house to trash it. Go trash your place.
- 8:50That's right, absolutely, and we would be happy to take care of
- 8:52you. And again we've got all the tables and linen's everything that you need
- 8:58that you would find in any other traditional rental hall. We have it and
- 9:01we do a really good job with it. So we've had several class reunions.
- 9:05East Bank just had theirs last weekend, and and we've had DuPont as
- 9:11I mentioned before that and this is we have a much smaller you know,
- 9:15temple down in my hometown and Logan, but that's where we had our class
- 9:18reunion, a couple of our guys, a couple of folks in our graduating
- 9:20class of Shriners and we had ours at the at the much smaller shrine temple
- 9:24and Logan back in Gym. Yeah, the the Logan Shrine Club or they're
- 9:28awesome. They've got a great building. They do a lot of work for
- 9:31us uh and they do a good job. And you know the mission for
- 9:33people that don't understand what we do and the main thing is we we get
- 9:39together and we raise money to help children and we directly support the Shriner's Children's
- 9:48Lexington and Shriner's Children Dayton. So all the things that we do, it
- 9:54seems like we have a lot of fun, and we do, but we're
- 9:56having fun with a purpose to raise money to help the children. We have
- 10:00over six hundred patients from West Virginia that are actively in the hospitals today getting
- 10:05world class treatment. So every time that you come to an event, or
- 10:09you book a party, or you even just step out on the parking line
- 10:13so you pay for parking, you are helping us do our mission and to
- 10:18help the kids of West Virginia and especially here in Charleston. All right,
- 10:22Chris, give us the phone number again. It's Ery Coote three Z row
- 10:24four three four three nine four zero five. All right, Chris, always
- 10:28a pleasure to have you on the show. Apologize about the heat in here
- 10:33this morning. Again. You don't realize that in October it's as hot as
- 10:37it is, but it isn't. Please put your pants back on. All
- 10:39right, You can leave now, Chris with Row from the Benny Keatam Shrine

- 11:09I do again, I do want to tell you that's coming up a
- 11:11little later round delegate and State Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin is going to be
- 11:16here. Do you want to get a couple of notes and from the Charleston
- 11:18City Council meeting last night? Jerred Lewis as the stories posted on the website
- 11:22at wv Metronews dot com at WCHS Network dot com. PODA the Public Outdoor
- 11:28Designated Area, which I have probably on more than one occasion, referred to
- 11:33as the Public Outdoor Drinking Area, but that's not what it is. U.
- 11:35PODA did pass the City Council last night allowing me people in certain areas
- 11:41of the city who want to purchase drinks. Certain areas of the city certain
- 11:46hours of the day, certain times that they will be allowed to do that.
- 11:50Again, Jered Lewis has got the storywv Metronews dot com and at WCHS
- 11:54Network dot com. It passed nineteen to seven and it could be implemented as
- 11:58early as November. And really the one that kind of caught my attention was
- 12:05this new media policy adopted by city council last night. Now the media in
- 12:09person covering this the council meetings and what the meetings being streamed. You know
- 12:16a lot of members of the media, they don't actually go there and cover.
- 12:18They set in the office and do it, which is understandable, especially
- 12:20when you're trying to cover two or three meetings a night, as some of
- 12:22our media members are. So the media that covers these meetings in person have
- 12:30been moved around just a little bits, and those who are not members of
- 12:35the media, meaning the public will not be allowed on the chamber floors for
- 12:39thirty minutes before or after the meeting. Now, as I said on the
- 12:43show in the past, I don't cover city council meetings for the station.
- 12:48I do try to watch them, but trust me, over my years in
- 12:52this business, I have covered my fair share of city council meetings, county
- 12:56commission boards of education, etc. I have issues with these new rules,
- 13:01nor does any other members of the media that I know of. You know,
- 13:05if you simply conduct yourself like a responsible adult, as one of my
- 13:11fellow members of the media is said on Z the artists for me known as
- 13:15Twitter on many issues worth noting, and I think the mayor and members of
- 13:20the council would agree they had no issues. I talked to members of ME.
- 13:26We have no issues with this. The legitimate media doesn't seem to have
- 13:30an issue with this, so I'll just leave it there. I five eighty

- 16:22Pushkin's here will join him here in a capital moment. So you may have
- 16:23missed this, but a city in our region was named by US News and
- 16:27World Report as the sixty six best place to live in the country. And
- 16:32I said he was Huntington, West Virginia. Tricia Baald is the executive director
- 16:34of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Converce. She joined this now. Tricia,
- 16:38good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave, thanks for
- 16:41having me, Thank you for being here. Now. I read this last
- 16:44week. It just kind of showed up and I was doing some radiing on
- 16:47this, and I think it's worth noting. We're going to get into this
- 16:48in detail a little bit. But to Huntington name as the sixty six best
- 16:52city in America to Live by US News and World Report. This is not
- 16:56something that you folks lobbied for. I mean so because a lot of times
- 17:00with these surveys, you know, you see well, you know, there's
- 17:02campaigns and then this was this. This kind of came as a surprise to
- 17:06you as well. You just kind of got the award, right, Yes,
- 17:08And it was a ranking. So what USCS and World Report did.
- 17:11They took the top one hundred and fifty populated m says in the country and
- 17:18ranked them with the methodology where they looked at four different things, so quality
- 17:22of life, value, desirability, and job market. And they waited each
- 17:26of those differently with quality of life being the highest, and then we came
- 17:30in, like you said, at number sixty six based on that methodology.
- 17:33And am I correct? There were there any other cities in West Virginia that
- 17:37made the list? There were not, so just the jewel city as they
- 17:41say, right, yeah, and I will say so, it's not just
- 17:45Huntington, West Virginia. So it's the Huntington Asland MSA. So that covers
- 17:49five county so it's Boyd and green Up County, Lawrence County in Ohio,
- 17:55and then Cavalan, Wayne County, and West Virginia. So it is the
- 17:57full MSA and okay, Huntington, but that's but that's still I mean it's
- 18:00a pretty big deal. And as you are the director of the regional Chamber
- 18:04of Commerce, I mean that's still a pretty big deal. Absolutely, we're
- 18:07thrilled. And the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce we serve both caval and Wayne
- 18:11County, so two of the five counties that are considered in that MSA.
- 18:15So I'm very excited about this. Now, in case you were wondering,
- 18:18green Bay was number one, with Huntsville, Alabama, Raleigh, Durham,
- 18:23North Carolina, Boulder, Colorado, Sarasota, Florida, Naples, Florida,
- 18:27Portland, Maine, Charlotte, Colorado, Springs and Fayetteville, North Carolina rounding
- 18:33out the top ten. That's pretty good company trasition, Yes, it is.
- 18:37So the next question is what do you do with this information? I
- 18:40mean, how do you market it? So I'm on the board for had
- 18:44Coast and the Huntington Area Development Council and Advantage Valley. So those are two
- 18:48economic development organizations whose mission is to attract new business and industry to the area
- 18:55and to get our current businesses that we have here to retain them and expand
- 19:00those. So I think this will be key moving forward as we attract new
- 19:03businesses to the tri State, to Advantage Valley, when we respond to RSPs
- 19:08to make sure this is something that we're sharing with them, and then also
- 19:14from a chamber of perspective. So our mission we have three cs. One
- 19:18of those is cultivate growth, and that's all about creating an environment where businesses
- 19:22can thrive. And to do that, you know, we need our businesses,
- 19:26not just people to work at those businesses, but obviously people to shop
- 19:30there, eat there, you know, whatever it might be so I think
- 19:33something that I would like to do as a chamber is work with our counterparts
- 19:37across the MSA to promote this, to help attract residents to the area,
- 19:41our partners at the CBB to attract tourists to the area. Well, I
- 19:45mean, it's certainly I think something worth undertaking, and you folks are doing
- 19:49a fantastic job there. Again we're talking Latricia Ball from the Huntington Regional Chamber
- 19:52of Commerce, and want to have you back on again the copital weeks because
- 19:56I know you have some things coming up with the kind of collaborative efforts with
- 20:00the Charleston Ay Alliance and the putting them it's putting them chambers, So I
- 20:03won't have you back on again here in a couple of its. But congratulations.
- 20:06Even though you know it's not just Huntington, it's the surrounding areas,
- 20:08it's the it's it's all the whole old thing. There still a pretty big
- 20:12feather in the KAPA and I could see you definitely moving, especially with new
- 20:15corps coming in with all these other things going on, I could I could
- 20:18see this as definitely being a great marketing tool, Tricia. I appreciate you
- 20:22being here. We'll talk to you a getting here in a couple of weeks.
- 20:23Thanks a lot, sounds great. Thank you Christian Baul again the director
- 20:27Regional of the Executive Director, i should say, of the Huntington Regional Chamber
- 20:32of Commerce. Five and ELI brought to you apart by bright Way the Maze

- 21:10your pants on, okay, because I'm not making any promises. I mean,
- 21:12it is hot. It is like a thousand degrees in here right now.
- 21:15Poor Ryan, he's got a worker's comp claim going in there right now,
- 21:18trying to push buttons on the board. It's hot in his room too,
- 21:21it's probably hotter. Well, he's got more equipment and there. Thought
- 21:22we'll be two here. They're working on it, and I just said they're
- 21:26working on Michael. Uh, so i'll tell you sorry. I got a
- 21:30text last night. Now, i'd already schedule Mike could reach out to me
- 21:32last week about coming on the show, and I always try to accommodate to
- 21:34my good friend here. So I got a text last night from mister Pushkin
- 21:38saying he was going to be on wsa Z, And immediately I thought,
- 21:42he's replacing mister cartoon. You can't replace mister Carson. So, in fact,
- 21:48are you going to be replacing mister Carson? There is no replacement for
- 21:51the great Jules Huffman. Yes, it was an icon of our youth.
- 21:55Yeah, and uh, you know that would be a dream job. But
- 21:56now you can't replace mister if you if you're cartoon, can I wear the
- 22:00Beever custom? Yeah? You got it? All right? Good? All
- 22:03right, all right, So let's get serious for a moment here, serious
- 22:06as we get this investigative report by Sarah Sagar of w SAZ Television. The
- 22:11story posted this morning on the WSAZ website and they've been reporting on it since
- 22:15July that that contracts have been awarded tens of thousands of dollars in contracts to
- 22:22an engineering firm that employs the son of the head of the Department of Transportation
- 22:29for the state, mister jimmy Riston. Catch us up from there and share
- 22:33your concern first of all, Yeah, that's what caught my attention as well,
- 22:36was the excellent reporting by Sarah Sagar or w sa Z. And uh,
- 22:42you know, and this report, this is a follow up the story
- 22:45last night that I was interviewed for. It's a follow up to several other
- 22:52stories that she's done. And you know, they're saying hundreds of thousands.
- 22:56I think that's just a tip of the iceberg. There are stacks of con
- 23:00tracks where he is the final selection, he being Secretary of rist it's the
- 23:03final selection. Uh, that's being awarded to the firm that employs his son.
- 23:08It's more than hundreds of thousands. Let's say it's a millions. So
- 23:12what is I mean a lot of money. It's it's it's it's taxpayers money.
- 23:17It's your money, folks, and and we should be good watch dogs
- 23:19of the people's money, and we need to know, uh, you know,
- 23:23who is the recipient of that money and why they're being selected over other
- 23:27firms, and even when there's an appearance of conflict of interest, uh that
- 23:33that's wrong. And there it's not just me saying it, it's according to
- 23:37federal and state law, which is very clear on this. I saw the
- 23:41story last night when when you texted me, I was I actually just got
- 23:45in and U and I flipped it over and I watched the story and there
- 23:48were some questions, Mike, I think about some of the documentation that was
- 23:52being presented there. Do you care to go into that because it was I
- 23:56walked in and I saw the story, and I saw their attorney I guess,
- 24:00being being interviewed, and it just seemed, Yeah, there just seemed
- 24:03to be a little bit of confusion or about some of the documentation, and
- 24:07there was and jumping any time there was like one piece of documentation this is
- 24:12this is the first piece of documentation, But the documentation that went to the
- 24:15meeting was something else. I mean, can you I caught that interview as
- 24:18well, and they replayed it last night in the story from last night,
- 24:22and yeah, I know uh Nate used to work over at in the House
- 24:26Judiciary. I know him a little bit. He looked like he might have
- 24:29been sitting in a room room with this temperature. He was sweating a little
- 24:33bit during that interview, and I feel bad he was putting that position to
- 24:36go out there and have to cover for the rest of the department. And
- 24:40what it appeared to me and anyone is paying attention to this, is that
- 24:45they've produced two separate sets of documents that are in contradiction, that they contradict
- 24:51each other. Only one can be true. Either he was at the meeting
- 24:56or he wasn't. But the the reporter, Sarah Sager, had voided the
- 25:03Department of Transportation and received one set of documents, and then they realized that
- 25:08they had messed up, in my opinion, and went back and got affidavits
- 25:11showing that there were different people at these meetings and they just don't match up.
- 25:15But you're only allowed to have one set of facts. Only one thing
- 25:19can be true. And that's why I've called Last night during the when I
- 25:23was on that station and talking to Miss Segar, I called for a federal
- 25:29investigation because we can't. We can't trust to the Justice Administration, especially his
- 25:34Department of Transportation under Secretary Risk, and we can't trust them to police themselves.
- 25:40We can't trust them to hold themselves accountable. They produced two separate sets
- 25:45of documents trying to cover their tracks. You know, it's often said,
- 25:48it's not the crime, it's the cover up. It's what it appears to
- 25:52be. So you know, maybe I'm wrong, maybe it isn't. That's
- 25:53why we're calling for a federal investigation. Get some outside eyes on this,
- 25:59and be stewards of the people's money. So when you say you call for
- 26:03a federal investigation, Mike, and again, anybody, I mean exactly anybody
- 26:07can do that. Exactly what does that entail? I mean just literally pick
- 26:11up the phone, call and say, hey, come down, take a
- 26:12look at this. I mean, there is procedural thing. I mean,
- 26:17how does it work federal highways, whether it's I mean, I'm not going
- 26:21to go into all the different ages you're looking at this, whether it's the
- 26:22US Attorney's office. We're just saying there needs to be a federal investigation.
- 26:29Period. Do you think that, of course he's got a you know,
- 26:32Governor Justice. I mean, you know, I'm not implicating him at anything,
- 26:34but I'm just saying, when you're the governor, anything that happens under
- 26:38you is on your watch. Do you think that that his opponent, because
- 26:45he's going to be facing Alex Mooney in that Senate seat, is is something
- 26:48that you think I might askuse you be spokes more for Alex Mooney? But
- 26:51but do you think that this is something that would be brought up in a
- 26:52campaign? I mean, I would think it would be I cannot speak for
- 26:56the Mooney campaign. Well, would be the end of the world if he
- 27:00did, But go ahead, Yeah he is. Yeah. Obviously the governors
- 27:03has been more focused on on running for Senate, and he's more focused on
- 27:07getting an office in Washington, DC that he's not likely to show up at,
- 27:11just like he's not likely to show up at his office here in Charleston.
- 27:15And and that's the problem, Uh, that he's very hands off.
- 27:19And it's not just the Department of Transportation where we're uncovering this culture of corruption
- 27:25over there. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Day.
- 27:29I've got letters and and seen reports of just just horrible behavior over the Department's
- 27:37Transportation, UH, corruption cover ups. And that's just one department. And
- 27:41we have the DHHR that the legislature had to step in and split up because
- 27:45it was completely dysfunctional. And when the DHHR is dysfunctional, it hurts up
- 27:49some of our most vulnerable members of society eight thousand children in foster care.
- 27:55And the legislature and the governor have done very little to address this situation.
- 27:59And it's the dysfunction at the DHHR. We've had a ongoing scandal with the
- 28:03state Police, UH that was largely ignored by this administration until until the media
- 28:11put it in the you know, put it out there for the public to
- 28:14see, and they had to address it. Are our prisons are are in
- 28:18a state of emergency. Uh. Just every single thing that this governor has
- 28:22touched is just you know, turns it's the reverse mightas touch. I didn't
- 28:26want to say what it turns to on the police, don't but it's you
- 28:30know, every every single aspect of state government is in disrepair under this governor's
- 28:34watch. And over the Department of Transfer. What was just the latest What
- 28:38would you say though to people, Mike, and I'm not I'm not piling
- 28:41on you here. I'm just gonna ask question, what would you say to
- 28:44people that would they would hear you on the air this morning and just say,
- 28:47oh, this is just politics, This is just the head of the
- 28:48state Democratic Party chair who's got a beef with the other side. What would
- 28:52your response to that? It is true that I am the chair of the
- 28:56of the Democratic Party. But the reason I ran for that the position and
- 28:59the reason I ran for a House of Delegates to begin with us because I
- 29:02love West Virginia and I and I hate what's happening to it right now.
- 29:07So so what would you like to see done here? You've called for a
- 29:10federal investigation? Are you just setting back to wait to see if that actually
- 29:12happens? Or would you want mister I mean, in perfect world, would
- 29:18you want mister Risson to resign? Or what would you like to see?
- 29:19How I would like for the truth to come out. I think the public
- 29:22deserves to know how their money is being spent, who's getting it and why.
- 29:27Well, well we'll find out. It's a very interesting story. And
- 29:32again just go it's it's posted on the wsa Z website and you know it's
- 29:37and this is something that just didn't pop up. I mean, as you
- 29:40said, this investigation. I mean I was reading the story this morning on
- 29:42their website from Sarah Sagar and it I mean this. They've been looking to
- 29:45this, I guess since August, right at least starting in right. Yeah,
- 29:48it's it's not new, it's but they're they're uncovering more. And then
- 29:52when those uh competing sets of documents came out, that was that was enough
- 29:56for me. That's when I thought I needed to say so. Five eighty

- 33:25trust Justice no more justice for West Virginia. I'm glad that someone sees it
- 33:31that way. It's I mean, actually it's unfortunate that that's where we are.
- 33:37But they've proven time and time again that they are not going to hold
- 33:40themselves accountable. So we need that outside investigation to do that. Tech says
- 33:45far right. Alex Mooney is forever grateful to Mike Pushkin for all of his
- 33:51help in his primary against him. Justice, Are you helping Alex Mooney?
- 33:55No, I'm trying to. I really like to help the state that I
- 33:59love to the truth, and I think that the state deserves a full time
- 34:02governor. Uh we just we just like we deserve a full time senator.
- 34:07Uh if since he's running for Senate now, I've served in the in the
- 34:13legislature under the entire tenure of Governor Justice and seeing just how hands off he
- 34:17is and as we know, in any in any part of life, Uh,
- 34:23you know, when when the cat's away, the mouse will play.
- 34:27When the boss doesn't show up and nobody's held accountable over there, bad things
- 34:30happen. And then and said, every single department and state government is complete,
- 34:35completely discomplete disarray right now, every single you're saying every single part of
- 34:40every every part. That's that's pretty big allegation. Well, let's see corrections,
- 34:45State Police, d HHR, now the Department of Transportation. We could
- 34:51go on. Tex says a Democrat just called for other politicians to be good
- 34:55stewards of the taxpayer of money. Thanks, I needed a good life too
- 34:59small. Well, I'm completely believed. I mean, back when the Republicans
- 35:05were in the minority, they were the ones that were clamoring for transparency and
- 35:07they were right. But now that the tables have turned, you can't get
- 35:13this administration to respond to a foyer request. And when they do respond to
- 35:16a foyer request, a lot of times there's misinformation on it. Some folks
- 35:21would call that a lie. But but is it fair though, Mike,
- 35:24because you say, under the under the Republican leadership or you know, when
- 35:30they're in charge, But I mean, is it because I mean, it's
- 35:31it's no secret that that I don't think that Eric Tarr and Craig Blair and
- 35:37Jim Justice are hanging out together. It's no, it's no. I mean,
- 35:39Atar is doing everything he can to make sure that Justice is not going
- 35:43to be the next center how I don't know how you I would invite your
- 35:47friend, the finance chair, Eric Tarr, who was also a frequent guest
- 35:52on the Shower, would invite him to join me in calling for this federal
- 35:54investigation. I just don't know what's going on in the world. I mean,
- 35:59last night that Charleston City Council, Mike, we have this debate over
- 36:01this whole media and I'm using air quotes media thing, and and I'm looking
- 36:07on X and I've got people from the ACLU shining it's signing with, signing
- 36:12with with Shannon Snodgrass, the city council person, Shannon Snodgrass, and I
- 36:16got two of the more liberal members of Charleston City Council and steel Hammer and
- 36:20Solomon that are on the side of you know, voting. It's just the
- 36:23whole world's gone crazy, man, It's just the whole world just gone freaking
- 36:28crazy. Politics makes strange, I guess it does so let's get a press
- 36:32conference. You and Eric tar together in a press conference calling for colling for
- 36:37a federal I would join him. All right, all right, all right,
- 36:38are you listening, mister Tarf, All right, here we go.
- 36:44Uh, let me see Texas. See what Republican control gets. Corruption and
- 36:49mismanagement of DHHR department, transportation, sex abuse to the state police and absentee
- 36:53governor, widespread constitutional violations of prisons, increasing gun deaths, increasing participation,
- 36:59support for directionist right wingers, and a hyper focused on the genitalia of kids,
- 37:05many other abhorrent policies. I to make West Virginia last two years of
- 37:07democratic control of the federal government brought the historic investment, growth and opportunity to
- 37:13West Virginia. That's right out of the democratic handbuck that that was a text.
- 37:15It was a text. Somebody a fast texture. Chapter two. That
- 37:21was that was a text. Pushkin said, everything this governor touches turns to
- 37:25blank, singing a completely different tune when he signed the medical cannabis bill in
- 37:30the Law four nineteen twenty seventeen. Interesting, I'll tell you what. I
- 37:35was one of the main ones who worked on the medical cannabis bill. It
- 37:37wasn't the bill that I wanted. We could have had a much better law.
- 37:40Of course it was that was not that at the time. Was not
- 37:44the governor's fault. He was. He wasn't there. He was hands off
- 37:46as usual. But yeah, I was there sitting next to him at the
- 37:50bill sign him because it was something that I worked on and something that I
- 37:52felt that people who suffer from the qualifying conditions that can be helped by this
- 37:58treatment. I thought it was some and that they deserved, they deserved to
- 38:00be able to try whatever makes them feel better. And you've gone on the
- 38:04record because people you know and we all know Jim Justice started out as a
- 38:07as a Democrat, and people have texted and called the show and said that,
- 38:10you know, as you didn't have problem with him when he was a
- 38:13Democrat. Actually you did have a problem with You did have a problem with
- 38:16you personally, did have a problem with him over I mean, and I'll
- 38:22give credit where credit is due. There's been there's been some good, but
- 38:24there's been a whole lot of bad. But I believe it was during his
- 38:28first year, uh, when he was more present at the legislature, when
- 38:32he was a Democrat, where we disagreed with him on a tax plan,
- 38:37and just it wasn't we did just blindly follow the leader. We disagreed with
- 38:42him in principle and something that he was doing, and we stood up to
- 38:45him. Then Texas became a Republican Texas Pushkin is going to get a full
- 38:50time governor either more See or Capital. Well, you know, you just
- 38:53had a right before I came on, you were talking to Tricia Ball over
- 38:58at Huntington and talking about how Huntington now was listed. We've gotten some good
- 39:02news in West Virginia, Huntington listed as one of the top places to live.
- 39:07I'd tell you it was not making those types of lists. It wasn't
- 39:09making lists for the good reason. Before Mayor Steve Williams became mayor, Uh,
- 39:15they were they were having a hard time making ends meet. They weren't
- 39:19able to pay first responders, they didn't have enough police officers on the night
- 39:23shift in Huntington. And then Mayor Williams came in and has really turned things
- 39:28around in Huntington. And now now now they're making good news. Now now
- 39:30they're making West Virginia proud. So I can say that he's gonna be making
- 39:35a formal announcement soon. I think he's got an excellent story to tell.
- 39:37He's already man, and I would not I wouldn't count him out because he's
- 39:44got a great story to tell and he's been a great mayor, and I
- 39:45think he would be a great governor well, speaking of governors, and this
- 39:49interesting that this text came through. There is going to be tonight in Morgantown.
- 39:52There's going to be a gubernatorial forum of the Republican candidates. And I
- 39:57find it very interesting because this text are metch and Morrissey and Capito this And
- 40:02I was talking to somebody up there. I made a little phone call just
- 40:05before the show this morning. I was actually talking to somebody in Morgantown about
- 40:07this. This is going to be out at the lake View Country Club on
- 40:10Cheat Lake out there, and it's going to be a forum much like they
- 40:15had in at at the Greenbar as part of the business summit. Because I
- 40:21was told and if I am wrong, I will correct this, but I
- 40:23was told by this person I talked to in Morgantown this morning that neither more
- 40:29Capital or Patrick Morrissey, the current Attorney General, will agree to a debate
- 40:35that the other two Warner and Miller actually want a debate, but that and
- 40:39if I'm wrong, they can get with me and I'll correct it. But
- 40:43I was told by somebody pretty much in the know that those two candidates,
- 40:45more Capital and Patrick Morrisey do not want a debate, that they prefer the
- 40:52the forum type thing, much like they did at the Green Bar, where
- 40:54they can just discuss. Do you have any comment on that? And that's
- 40:57wrong, I'll correct I thought when I found in arresting about this forum that
- 41:00they had at the Greenbrier that I think it was held like ten o'clock or
- 41:05eleven AM during a working day when most West Virginians really are unable to tune
- 41:13in or attend. It was like in the middle of the day when most
- 41:15people are working, and actually a lot of people who work for eleven can't
- 41:17afford to go to the Greenbrier to watch it in person. E there.
- 41:21Now they're having it at Lakeview Resort. Why don't they have it as something
- 41:23as more accessible as the average West Virginia have it at Walmart. That's where
- 41:28they should have it, Tech says Bob Evans. Tech says many of the
- 41:35supposedly corrupt individuals and state government right now are mostly lifelong members of your Democratic
- 41:39Party, and many of them switched over to the Republican Party only recently purely
- 41:44for political expediency. Well, no, I disagree with that statement. It's
- 41:51I'm not even looking at it from that perspective. I want West Virginia to
- 41:54do better. That's why I'm so happy to hear about the good news from
- 41:58Huntington. We have a mayor who has done all the right things and has
- 42:01really turned the city around. Uh. I like hearing good news about West
- 42:06Virginia. I'm born and raised here. I love this state more and I
- 42:08can even express. And that's why it's so painful and so sad to see
- 42:16so many aspects of state government that are failing. Because when those when those
- 42:20departments fail, when the DHHR fails, real people get hurt. Eight thousand
- 42:24children in foster care, some of the most vulnerable members of society, kids
- 42:28that have nobody else to take care of them, being left at hotels around
- 42:32the state because they're because that that division is in such disarray. And now
- 42:37we're learning of this like this unchecked corruption at the Department of Transportation. We're
- 42:44millions of taxpayer dollars flow in and out of that department, and we're hearing
- 42:47of a secretary that is the final selection that he gets the final say so
- 42:53on whether or not that money goes to his son. I think everybody can
- 42:59agree, whether you're you're Republican, Democrat, independent, whatever, everybody can
- 43:02agree that's at least, at the very least has an appearance of conflict of
- 43:07interest and it needs to be addressed and there needs to be an outside investigation.
- 43:10Texas West Virginians are going to have two terrible choices for senator. We
- 43:14can only blame the state for attorney. Republican a party that has been producing
- 43:17terrible politicians as of late. According to a texture, Texture says, Jim
- 43:23Justice is sympathetic that he still does remote press conferences because he's scared to death
- 43:28the follow up questions and accountability. Republicans say nothing about this. Let me
- 43:35just say there have been a few Republicans that have come on the show that
- 43:37have called the governor to task for that, mister Tarr being one of them.
- 43:42So there have been some. But go ahead at the rare instance where
- 43:45you're going to find me in agreement. Here we go again. I'm telling
- 43:47you the world's coming to an aindance cheer. Well, no, but it's
- 43:52right, is right, and everything else is open. Courts are open,
- 43:57schools are open. Everything's been open. Everything's been open for a while.
- 44:00Why can't the governor have real press conferences? And the reason isn't And that
- 44:04texture hit the nail right on the head. Doesn't want to answer questions,
- 44:07wants to be able to control the flow of this fake press conference that he
- 44:12does. It's it's just a it's a campaign ad. It's not a press

- 46:59of the former president in court yesterday and any thoughts on his effort on the
- 47:02efforts to remove him from the ballots? I did not catch any of that.
- 47:07I was working very hard yesterday and I didn't watch any of the court
- 47:12proceedings. I believe that the effort to remove him from the ballot. The
- 47:17one filing the lawsuit is a Republican candidate for president. I don't know,
- 47:25but he is a Republican. I think his name is Castro, and he's
- 47:30a He's down in Texas. He's running for president. I don't think he's
- 47:34going to make any of the debates, but he is the one who's filing
- 47:37the lawsuits in certain states. Yeah, and it's and even the most I
- 47:40think he'll be successful. Probably not. That's about all I can say about
- 47:45but agree it's coming from a Republican Any of the and even the most ardent
- 47:50Trump haters are going to say this is going to go nowhere. And I
- 47:52will say this, this is just me speaking. You know, people know
- 47:54how I feel about Trump. I don't want Trump to be the nominee.
- 47:58I think he is going to be the No, I don't want it to
- 48:00be the nominee. But I don't support this backdoorway of trying to get it.
- 48:04I wish the Republican people would just look at that stage and say,
- 48:07anybody but Donald Trump on that say, well, okay, maybe not Roza
- 48:12Swamy, maybe not him, but but but anybody else, you know,
- 48:15completely, even Chris Christie. I mean, I'm kind of a Christy gap.
- 48:19You should go to all of these Republican Executive Committee meetings and Republican clubs
- 48:23and get up this passionate. They don't sure they'll listen. No, they
- 48:28don't listen. To me any thoughts on the next thread of a government shutdown.
- 48:32I mean, because we just kicked the can down the road for forty
- 48:35five days and now we got this battle between you know where I guess h.
- 48:39Gates is going to try to get McCarthy out in As. I don't
- 48:43think he's going to be successful in that. I think that, you know,
- 48:45I disagree with McCarthy on just about everything, but I think that he
- 48:50was able to He said he was the adult in the room. If they
- 48:52want to try to remove him for being the adult in the room for a
- 48:57change, he's usually not. Uh, well, then they go ahead and
- 49:01try. I don't think they're going to have the votes to do it.
- 49:04That's what I think. Texas dave the money for these contracts, going back
- 49:07to the Jimmy Ristin story, are going to Risk and Sun. Are not
- 49:09going to rist and Son, I'm sorry, not going to rist and Son.
- 49:13It's going to a company where his son is employee. There is a
- 49:15big difference typical Pushkin spend Off. I wish I had the federal statute,
- 49:21but it mentions that even if it employs a it's in violation a federal statute.
- 49:27It's pretty clear whether that's the company's owned by his son or whether he
- 49:30has worked there and he's worked there for quite some time. It goes against
- 49:36federal statute. This isn't my opinion, this is federal law and state.
- 49:40I just don't do I mean that that's this is my take on the whole
- 49:43thing is just just don't do it. I mean, don't even give the
- 49:45appearance of impropriety. I mean, I know it's probably a lot of money,
- 49:50you know that you're gonna be believing on the table, But don't.
- 49:52In this era where you know you have a target on you constantly, don't.
- 49:58Just don't do it. And I it's often said that the cover up
- 50:01is often worse than the crime I received. I've received letters about this,
- 50:07and I've been following it. I didn't speak up publicly until the news story
- 50:12the other night where it appeared that the department produced two conflicting sets of documents.
- 50:17That's an issue. That's a big issue when they're when they're trying to
- 50:22cover their tracks. So if they didn't do anything wrong, why are they
- 50:25trying to cover it up? Texas Dave, how did you take the nasty
- 50:31glare from the New York from the New York Ag at Trump yesterday and the
- 50:36smiles and laughter for the judge like Trump or not. These behaviors from these
- 50:39civil employees pathetic and downright obvious. Texas says, not holding press conversas,
- 50:45not answering questions, hiding out seems like Governor Justice is just following bunker Biden's
- 50:51twenty twenty lead. Only downfall is now we see the nightmare uniform voters put
- 50:55our republic in in that regard. You're saying, basically, by not holding
- 51:00press conferences, this is what Joe Biden did in twenty twenty by not making
- 51:04public appearances and so on and over. That's what the that's what the texture
- 51:07is getting to there. Well, I disagree. I think that the governor
- 51:10should open up as press conferences actually uh stand and be able to have a
- 51:15back and forth with the press. He doesn't do that, hasn't done it.
- 51:21Instead of press conferences, we get these, you know, televised campaign
- 51:25events several times a week. Tex says, I agree about the fake press
- 51:30conferences, but I blamed the media journalists for allowing it to go on.
- 51:32They don't have to participate in that foolishness. The media can camp out of
- 51:36the governor's conference room if they were really serious about their job. So let's
- 51:39blame the media. Well, I blame the governor. Okay, I think
- 51:44it's time open up your press conferences. Yeah, I mean again, we
- 51:47at when COVID was going on and he was, you know, providing the
- 51:51information and so on and so forth. At one point we just stopped carrying
- 51:53it. Originally we were doing it live, but we just stopped carrying it,
- 51:57you know, for that, as did many other people as well.
- 51:59They cover it, but they don't. Let's try to carry it live,
- 52:00all right, Mike, I appreciate you being here. Man is always thanks
- 52:02a lot. Hey, thanks for having me on. You have a great
