- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode sixty seven of Cards
- 0:20Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike cool Ard from ras Ball, joined
- 0:23Speaker 1: as always by my very good friend and birthday boy tonight,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Jeremy Brewer. How are you doing tonight, Bud, I.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Am one year older, none the wiser, ready to go.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you've got a whole year and a half of
- 0:36Speaker 1: podcasting underneath your belt, so people know about that wisdom.
- 0:44Speaker 2: The level of wisdom. We'll just leave the rest to
- 0:47Speaker 2: be determined by the listener.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Well, we've got a great show lined up for you tonight.
- 0:52Speaker 1: We are recording this on Wednesday, November sixth, So yeah,
- 0:57Speaker 1: be Pepper didn't or tuned in first peppering of some
- 1:01Speaker 1: anxieties here probably here and there. But I figured also
- 1:05Speaker 1: a great time to record a podcast, because honestly, there's
- 1:07Speaker 1: nothing more that I love than getting on here every
- 1:09Speaker 1: week and chatting baseball. And I just got back from
- 1:13Speaker 1: First Pitch Arizona from this weekend had an absolute blast
- 1:17Speaker 1: meeting tons of people in fantasy baseball realms, between different podcasts,
- 1:22Speaker 1: different websites, different writers, but just also people who love
- 1:26Speaker 1: fantasy baseball. There's been there's guys out there at that folks,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I should say, folks up at that conference that just
- 1:34Speaker 1: come because they love fantasy baseball and love drafting teams
- 1:37Speaker 1: and love going to First Pitch Arizona conferences and live
- 1:41Speaker 1: podcasts and going to those games. And it was a blast.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I lost track of like having a good time because
- 1:48Speaker 1: you're just having such a blast talking baseball and the
- 1:52Speaker 1: minutia of roto baseball with everybody out there getting through
- 1:57Speaker 1: some fab suggestions and prospects and all that. So if
- 2:01Speaker 1: you are tuning in, if I met you out there
- 2:02Speaker 1: at First Pitch Arizona, welcome. We've got a great podlined
- 2:07Speaker 1: up to discuss both fantasy and baseball cards, and this
- 2:11Speaker 1: week we're focusing on twenty twenty four stadium club release
- 2:15Speaker 1: and getting into some news and notes, So bru, let's
- 2:18Speaker 1: just kind of kick it off from those news and
- 2:20Speaker 1: notes here. In terms of when we recorded last week,
- 2:23Speaker 1: it was in the middle of Game five. Little did
- 2:26Speaker 1: we know how chaotic like the fifth inning there was,
- 2:29Speaker 1: because as we were watching it, we saw the Yankees
- 2:31Speaker 1: go up big and they saw the Dodgers come back.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But when you're just watching like the game cast the
- 2:35Speaker 1: box score, it's difficult to get a sense of all
- 2:38Speaker 1: those errors the Yankees made between Garrett Cole not covering
- 2:42Speaker 1: first and Aaron Judge dropping that ball in the outfield,
- 2:45Speaker 1: and so that paved the way for the Dodgers to
- 2:48Speaker 1: be able to bring home their eighth World Series. Brady
- 2:51Speaker 1: Freeman won the World Series MVP, as we'd kind of
- 2:53Speaker 1: predicted last week, and all hell broke loose in America
- 2:58Speaker 1: even without the Yankees coming back the way that you
- 3:00Speaker 1: had predicted. So what really stands out as we look
- 3:04Speaker 1: back on the World Series again, if you want to
- 3:06Speaker 1: tune in, We've got a lot of thoughts last week too,
- 3:08Speaker 1: But what is like the seminal moment you think that
- 3:11Speaker 1: you're going to capture in your mind going forward from
- 3:14Speaker 1: this Dodgers victory.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if I'm going to pick one moment,
- 3:19Speaker 2: and I think we've talked about this last last week,
- 3:22Speaker 2: it stills to me, is that Game one Freddie Freeman
- 3:25Speaker 2: Grand Slam walk off like that that like felt like
- 3:28Speaker 2: it set the tone for the entire World Series and
- 3:31Speaker 2: two fronts one. Freddy Freeman is amazing and he absolutely
- 3:36Speaker 2: deserved to be the MVP. Absolutely did everything right this
- 3:39Speaker 2: series on like half a leg. Kirk Gibson style, it was,
- 3:43Speaker 2: you know, fantastic. The other piece of that is the inverse,
- 3:48Speaker 2: which is, what the heck are the Yankees doing with
- 3:51Speaker 2: thought process? And like they're like, did they mentally just
- 3:54Speaker 2: not show up the World Series? Why is Nester Cortez
- 3:57Speaker 2: pitching to Freddie Freeman that situation? Why is Garrett Cole
- 4:00Speaker 2: trying to up end Bill Buckner and not take care
- 4:03Speaker 2: of first base? Like what is going on in these situations?
- 4:07Speaker 2: And so it just feels like, you know that Game
- 4:11Speaker 2: five was the epitome of the World Series, is that
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yankees just didn't seem to show up, and when they did,
- 4:17Speaker 2: they didn't make very good choices, and then Freddie Freeman
- 4:21Speaker 2: took care of the rest. Is kind of the way
- 4:23Speaker 2: I look at it. So that's the one moment to me,
- 4:25Speaker 2: But it was it was, I would say, a surprising series.
- 4:29Speaker 2: We both thought it was a seven game series. It
- 4:32Speaker 2: should have been it should have been more excitement. It
- 4:34Speaker 2: was very exciting, but like it should have been excitement
- 4:37Speaker 2: as far as like back and forth throughout the series,
- 4:39Speaker 2: not individual games. The Dodgers, you know, kept pulling things
- 4:42Speaker 2: through and making it happen. But kudos to the Dodgers.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Now they can get rid of the asterisk on the
- 4:47Speaker 2: most recent World Series, not a shortened COVID season World
- 4:52Speaker 2: Series win, it's a legitimate one. It's nice to see
- 4:56Speaker 2: the money paying up, I guess for once for them,
- 4:59Speaker 2: and now they're gona try to go sign one soda.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think lots of people will be
- 5:04Speaker 1: but yeah, we'll get into that little bit.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I'm trying to sign one soda.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah, because I when we get into some of these
- 5:09Speaker 1: news and notes, I think I've got a pretty big
- 5:11Speaker 1: dark horse that you can see it in a transaction
- 5:14Speaker 1: they executed this week. But yes, I do agree that
- 5:17Speaker 1: like Freddie Freeman's home run is going to stand out
- 5:20Speaker 1: with the bat Rays there. I also think about just
- 5:24Speaker 1: Mookie Betts bringing home his third World Series but also
- 5:26Speaker 1: in Game five, pretty consequential sackfly there, you know, to
- 5:30Speaker 1: tack on that run, and he was ready for it
- 5:33Speaker 1: and was the most excited I think I've ever seen
- 5:36Speaker 1: anybody for a sack fly because he knew how consequential
- 5:39Speaker 1: that was. But yeah, you nailed it right on the head.
- 5:43Speaker 1: In terms of the Yankees just really shooting themselves in
- 5:47Speaker 1: their own foot with their sloppy play, and it came
- 5:50Speaker 1: to light even more so than anywhere else in Game five,
- 5:54Speaker 1: and that was a part of like there were reports
- 5:56Speaker 1: that the Dodgers had this quote unquote kind of like
- 5:59Speaker 1: scouting port on the Yankees that, you know, just let
- 6:03Speaker 1: them beat themselves. And so we've seen that a lot
- 6:05Speaker 1: from what the Yankees did in twenty twenty four that
- 6:07Speaker 1: they had sloppy base running. They also weren't necessarily outside
- 6:11Speaker 1: of like Anthony Volpi, that great around the diamond defensively,
- 6:15Speaker 1: so they were kind of asking for it at the
- 6:17Speaker 1: end of the day, which is honestly kind of inexcusable
- 6:20Speaker 1: if you're the Yankees that if you can't find legitimate
- 6:24Speaker 1: fielders or be able to kind of like coach that
- 6:26Speaker 1: up the way you can see in the Dodgers. The
- 6:28Speaker 1: Dodgers do this really great that I think part of
- 6:30Speaker 1: the reason their run has been so sustained over the
- 6:34Speaker 1: past decade or so is that their defensive positioning is
- 6:39Speaker 1: among the best in the league. You know, the Cardinals
- 6:41Speaker 1: used to be really good at a pre shift ban
- 6:44Speaker 1: but the Brewers are kind of in this group too
- 6:46Speaker 1: that you look up all the time, and the Dodgers
- 6:48Speaker 1: have the person standing in the exact right spot for
- 6:52Speaker 1: some barrel that goes into the outfield or one hundred
- 6:55Speaker 1: and five mile hour liner that's coming through the infield.
- 6:58Speaker 1: So I think it's a it's a great kind of
- 7:01Speaker 1: feather in the cap of the Dodgers, and also great
- 7:03Speaker 1: to see Clayton Kershaw at the at the celebration to
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, have that emotional moment in front of all
- 7:09Speaker 1: the fans that he didn't get to celebrate in twenty twenty.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Maybe the low key favorite moment I'm also going to
- 7:16Speaker 1: take home is drunk Jack Flarerty at the at the celebration.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I don't did you see that clip when he was
- 7:22Speaker 1: trying to I didn't. There is a great clip out
- 7:24Speaker 1: there of him trying to dab up Earl Hrscheizer and
- 7:29Speaker 1: just cannot even like find Earl or Herscheizer's hand in
- 7:33Speaker 1: space that like he is two par gone. I'm happy
- 7:36Speaker 1: for Jack Flarerity because he's been just through a lot
- 7:39Speaker 1: of ups and downs his career, but I think that
- 7:42Speaker 1: it's great to see him win it with the Dodgers there.
- 7:45Speaker 1: What do you think that the the Yankees and the
- 7:48Speaker 1: Dodgers kind of do here in the offseason. Do you
- 7:50Speaker 1: do you think that the Dodgers pretty much run it
- 7:53Speaker 1: back and do you think the Yankees are going to
- 7:55Speaker 1: go through any significant overhauls.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm thinking the thing Dodgers are they kind of
- 8:00Speaker 2: run it back here. Uh, they have some work to
- 8:03Speaker 2: do in the rotation. I feel like a broken record
- 8:06Speaker 2: on that commentary throughout the playoffs that didn't play through.
- 8:09Speaker 2: But you know, we saw Kershaw opt out of his
- 8:13Speaker 2: his contract or decline his option, and you know they
- 8:18Speaker 2: you know, Bueler here gonna be a free agent, like
- 8:20Speaker 2: they're that doesn't really seem like their rotation is fully settled,
- 8:23Speaker 2: so they have to kind of close that up. But
- 8:25Speaker 2: beyond that, like the you know, they have a pretty
- 8:29Speaker 2: much the team intact. You know, I've got to figure
- 8:31Speaker 2: out Hernandez. They've got some pieces they're moving, but otherwise
- 8:34Speaker 2: they're a pre gusher and strong team. The cores there.
- 8:38Speaker 2: They just have to make a few choices. The Yankees,
- 8:41Speaker 2: on the other hand, like they're they're losing, they could
- 8:43Speaker 2: be losing a number of guys like they did, uh
- 8:46Speaker 2: somehow retain Cole. I'm not quite sure still what happened
- 8:50Speaker 2: there as far as is contract to force their hand.
- 8:55Speaker 2: But then the green that like I played my overplayed
- 8:57Speaker 2: my hand and they'll just stick back around. I'm quite
- 9:00Speaker 2: sure what happened there. We might never truly know. Uh,
- 9:03Speaker 2: but you know, on SODA's a free agent, Glebar Tores
- 9:05Speaker 2: is a free agent, and and it seems like they're
- 9:10Speaker 2: kind of pitching also kind of let them down. I've
- 9:12Speaker 2: seen some people say, oh, like cole Go, they got
- 9:14Speaker 2: some strong pitching. Not quite sure Goes so sure that
- 9:17Speaker 2: they have pitching that's their Cortes isn't. But but I
- 9:27Speaker 2: think that the the Yankees have a little bit higher
- 9:30Speaker 2: hill to climb, and uh, they they they have more
- 9:34Speaker 2: to lose with Soto specifically, so I think they're gonna
- 9:38Speaker 2: be the ones that have a harder, harder hill to climb.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I would not be surprised to see the Dodgers back.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I'm I probably would bet against the Yankees at this
- 9:46Speaker 2: point in time unless they make some big moves that
- 9:49Speaker 2: I don't see coming. But they feel like they're gonna be,
- 9:52Speaker 2: you know, relying on aging Garrett cole and finally letting
- 9:57Speaker 2: go of Glabar Torres, which knowing the they probably been
- 10:00Speaker 2: labor back and let so to go. That's just kind
- 10:03Speaker 2: of how they seem to seem like they would roll.
- 10:05Speaker 1: That would be just man. I can't imagine that exactly.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Things would get really out of hand. As you know,
- 10:13Speaker 1: the Yankees are on a fifteen year World Series drought now,
- 10:17Speaker 1: so things are are desperate up there in the Bronx.
- 10:20Speaker 1: But one thing that you didn't kind of mention there
- 10:22Speaker 1: in the Dodgers' off seasons plan is obviously going to
- 10:24Speaker 1: be rehabbing show hey Otani even further now. It's not
- 10:28Speaker 1: even just the Tommy John surgery for the pitching side.
- 10:31Speaker 1: We discovered just recently, I think it was yesterday, it
- 10:34Speaker 1: came out that that Otani actually visited doctor Neil AA
- 10:39Speaker 1: Trash had his laboram repaired. He had a torm laid
- 10:42Speaker 1: horn labram in his left shoulder from that stolen base
- 10:45Speaker 1: attempt in Game three and popping his shoulder out of socket.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Which should kind of covered this a little bit last
- 10:51Speaker 1: week because it was very, very similar to the Ferny
- 10:56Speaker 1: Tatis shoulder injury, which also had to be surgically repaired.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So it is certainly concerning that this required surgery. But
- 11:07Speaker 1: at this point, you know, Otani's got four months, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: to get ready and rehab over the off season. I'm
- 11:15Speaker 1: not totally sure that it's not gonna be enough, depending
- 11:18Speaker 1: on how significant the tear in the laboram was. But
- 11:22Speaker 1: what do you think that this is gonna do for
- 11:24Speaker 1: show Heyo Tani going forward? Because at first pitch Arizona,
- 11:27Speaker 1: he was like a top one, two or three pick
- 11:31Speaker 1: in pretty much every draft that I saw because people
- 11:34Speaker 1: didn't know about this labor surgery yet.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, you know, non throwing arms, I think
- 11:40Speaker 2: absolutely helps because laborham is something that's it matters for hitting,
- 11:45Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, but it's a much bigger issue
- 11:47Speaker 2: with an overhand motion, and so I think that, you know,
- 11:51Speaker 2: it impacts his draft value a little. But at the
- 11:53Speaker 2: same time, it's really hard to compete against the guy
- 11:58Speaker 2: that should be a really good pitcher, should be a
- 12:01Speaker 2: really good hitter, and has the potential to be the
- 12:03Speaker 2: best on both of those. And so it's that's the
- 12:06Speaker 2: weirdest like floor scenario there is that his laborom's really
- 12:10Speaker 2: shot in his arm. Well, he pitches with the other one,
- 12:13Speaker 2: so at least I still got a mid rotation starter
- 12:15Speaker 2: or a top fifteen starter. However you want to look
- 12:18Speaker 2: at it and vice versa. So I still think he's
- 12:20Speaker 2: at the top of draft boards. You just don't feel
- 12:23Speaker 2: nearly as confident as what you should would have, you know,
- 12:27Speaker 2: a month ago, and that that's unfortunate. But it feels
- 12:30Speaker 2: very much like Ronald Lacunia the year before, where he
- 12:33Speaker 2: came off his you know, forty seventy season unbelievable. There's
- 12:36Speaker 2: no way you couldn't draft him first, and he kind
- 12:38Speaker 2: of fell on his face a little bit and struggled,
- 12:40Speaker 2: but you still didn't feel wrong for drafting him. Like
- 12:43Speaker 2: you look back, he's like, but it was still the
- 12:45Speaker 2: right choice to draft Acunya because you couldn't not take
- 12:49Speaker 2: the guy that went forty seventy. I think that's kind
- 12:50Speaker 2: of where you're gonna sit with Otani. Here's like the
- 12:53Speaker 2: guy went fifty to fifty and he could win fifteen
- 12:55Speaker 2: games while on the mound. Okay, he goes thirty thirty
- 12:59Speaker 2: and wins ten. Okay, I'll still take it. I still so,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I again, I is he gonna drop in this few drafts? Sure?
- 13:07Speaker 2: Does he drop out of the top five? I doubt it?
- 13:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I guess we'll see where like how
- 13:15Speaker 1: this rehab goes over the next couple of months too.
- 13:17Speaker 1: We're not gonna really know until pictures and catchers really report,
- 13:20Speaker 1: So like, I do think that he'll probably stay like
- 13:23Speaker 1: a top three ish pick three, four pick maybe I
- 13:27Speaker 1: guess top five. There's gonna be it's he's gonna slip
- 13:29Speaker 1: in some drafts, but yeah, I.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Think there's gonna be some fear. And then it's like
- 13:32Speaker 2: the snowball fear like once like he drops like past
- 13:35Speaker 2: three and you're like, well, I don't want to be
- 13:37Speaker 2: the guy that does this, And all of a sudden,
- 13:39Speaker 2: he's like somebody's sitting there at seven, going why do
- 13:42Speaker 2: I get O top me? Like what did I miss?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Like there's gonna be a draft like that, there's gonna
- 13:47Speaker 2: be the guy I just said. They go, okay, we'll
- 13:48Speaker 2: take him.
- 13:49Speaker 1: So yeah, and along with it, like I do think
- 13:53Speaker 1: maybe like the one changes, I was pretty solidly taking
- 13:57Speaker 1: Otani number one before this, but with this, I would
- 14:00Speaker 1: take Wit like I would go Wit because like there
- 14:03Speaker 1: is just enough of that injury concern where honestly Otani
- 14:06Speaker 1: and Wit were like one A, one B anyway, and
- 14:09Speaker 1: like it could have been a coin flip depending on
- 14:11Speaker 1: how I feel next week or you know, what substances
- 14:14Speaker 1: I've imbibed or whatever that like how I'm feeling. And
- 14:18Speaker 1: so this does I think definitively put Wit in the
- 14:21Speaker 1: number one spot just because like that floor is so so,
- 14:25Speaker 1: so dang high for Bobby Witt Jr. You don't have
- 14:27Speaker 1: to worry about any sorts of injuries right now. And
- 14:31Speaker 1: uh yeah, I mean I don't think Otani's gonna have
- 14:34Speaker 1: a lot of stolen bases in him next year, but
- 14:36Speaker 1: I think you can still be looking at something like
- 14:38Speaker 1: forty fifteen with the pitching back up playing in the
- 14:42Speaker 1: Dodgers' lineup. That like the counting numbers are so absurd
- 14:46Speaker 1: that I think it really provides a nice floor, assuming
- 14:51Speaker 1: that he can still produce okay with this shoulder rehab.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it'd be a good point. Like the steals,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you have to think they're gonna take a drop off,
- 14:59Speaker 2: just else to try to protect him and try to
- 15:01Speaker 2: keep him healthy. And you know, it was interesting, I
- 15:05Speaker 2: should have recognized this, and so this is a complete
- 15:08Speaker 2: gaff on me throughout the season. I didn't realize he
- 15:11Speaker 2: wasn't sliding head first at all while stealing bases the
- 15:15Speaker 2: entire separt, just like he never does because he's protecting himself,
- 15:18Speaker 2: which is so interesting that he still pulled off what
- 15:21Speaker 2: he did because of all these guys with their creative
- 15:23Speaker 2: slides and things like that, Otani's just straight stealing the base.
- 15:27Speaker 2: And so but just that caution that you see there,
- 15:31Speaker 2: they're like that tells you that they're going to be
- 15:34Speaker 2: very careful with him and a little bit more selective
- 15:36Speaker 2: than they were this year because they need to keep
- 15:38Speaker 2: that keep him on the mound as well, because you
- 15:41Speaker 2: have to think, as much as they just talked about
- 15:43Speaker 2: the Dodgers concerns, the rotation, oh, Tani is part of
- 15:45Speaker 2: that solution, and they're paying him actually not too much
- 15:49Speaker 2: right now. They're eventually paying him when they don't care
- 15:56Speaker 2: at all, and the Dodgers are paying for this for
- 15:59Speaker 2: the next thirty years.
- 16:00Speaker 1: But okay, well, yeah, we will keep an eye on
- 16:04Speaker 1: that throughout the off season. I don't think we're gonna
- 16:06Speaker 1: get much word because honestly, we don't get too many
- 16:09Speaker 1: glimpses into Otani's life that it's going to be something
- 16:12Speaker 1: that will have to table until pictures and catchers reports.
- 16:15Speaker 1: So yeah, let's get into we've got our first bit
- 16:18Speaker 1: of off season like transactions and awards, and so let's
- 16:24Speaker 1: kick off with some of those awards. I'm gonna go
- 16:26Speaker 1: through the gold glove winners because I think these have
- 16:29Speaker 1: been devalued over time, as you know, people look for
- 16:33Speaker 1: other ways of looking at gold glove performances and defense
- 16:39Speaker 1: out there, and especially back like the gold Glove awards
- 16:42Speaker 1: really fell out of favor with you know, nerds like
- 16:45Speaker 1: us during around the turn of the century because of
- 16:49Speaker 1: like the correlation between gold gloves and offensive performance, mostly
- 16:55Speaker 1: highlighted by that Raphael performance Raphael Palmero gold glove where
- 16:59Speaker 1: he played like thirty games at first base in DH
- 17:03Speaker 1: the rest of the time, that's like, yeah, that's that's
- 17:05Speaker 1: the absolute highlight. Let me, what year was that that
- 17:09Speaker 1: was back in like ninety nine, Yeah, that was that
- 17:13Speaker 1: was a good year. But I think what I'm gonna
- 17:16Speaker 1: do is rattle through who won in each league, and
- 17:20Speaker 1: you can kind of give me one who stands out
- 17:22Speaker 1: one way or another in terms of like, uh, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 1: maybe somebody who you think is a really good defender
- 17:28Speaker 1: that you were just wanted highlight, or maybe you're thinking, hey,
- 17:32Speaker 1: this is a little strange that this guy came home
- 17:34Speaker 1: with a goal glove. So I'll start with the al.
- 17:37Speaker 1: We have pitcher Seth Lugo for the Royals, catcher Kyle
- 17:40Speaker 1: Roley for the Seattle Mariners, first baseman Carlos Santana for
- 17:44Speaker 1: the Minnesota Twins, Andre Simenez second base for the Cleveland Guardians,
- 17:50Speaker 1: third base Alex Bregman for the Houston Astros, shortstop Bobby
- 17:54Speaker 1: Witt Junior from the Royals. Outfielder I guess these are
- 17:58Speaker 1: split by Yeah, they are split by center and corner.
- 18:02Speaker 1: So centerfield would have been Dalton Varshow from the Toronto
- 18:06Speaker 1: Blue Jays, right field will You're a Bray You from
- 18:09Speaker 1: the Red Sox, and left field Stephen Kwan from the Guardians.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Utility Dylan Moore from the Mariners. So anybody from that
- 18:17Speaker 1: list I just rounded off that really kind of stands
- 18:19Speaker 1: out to you one way or another. Yeah, I mean, I'm.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Gonna I'm gonna call it two guys because I think
- 18:23Speaker 2: they both deserve call out. First of all, Stephen Kwan
- 18:26Speaker 2: like the epitome of better real world player than fantasy player.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And Stephen Kwan like and this is just another iteration,
- 18:33Speaker 2: is this? I think it is his third gold Glove
- 18:34Speaker 2: if I if I recalled looks like it. Yes, and
- 18:37Speaker 2: he's just since yes, since he's come up like that's
- 18:40Speaker 2: all he is. He is a pure get on bass hitter,
- 18:44Speaker 2: slap guy, amazing fielding. He is the absolute kind of
- 18:47Speaker 2: guy that you want in your on your team, and
- 18:49Speaker 2: then from fantasy product you're like, ah, but I can't
- 18:51Speaker 2: see it. And so I love that with State Stephen
- 18:54Speaker 2: Kuan and the other one I call it was Dalton
- 18:55Speaker 2: var Show, and I just I love the fact that
- 18:58Speaker 2: he came up as a catcher and now he is
- 19:01Speaker 2: a Gold Gloves center fielder like that. They just think
- 19:05Speaker 2: about transition. Think how many catchers can you think of
- 19:08Speaker 2: that could be gold Gloves center fielders. That just doesn't
- 19:11Speaker 2: make sense. Like I'm just thinking thinking like Benji Molina
- 19:14Speaker 2: trying to play center field, and I actually would get
- 19:18Speaker 2: a lot of entertainment out of that, to be honest,
- 19:20Speaker 2: and so actually every hitter.
- 19:22Speaker 1: But I think that's a great way to increase.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yes, exactly. But I just think it's so impressive what
- 19:31Speaker 2: he's been able to do and turn himself into a
- 19:34Speaker 2: Gold Glove center field or when he did come up
- 19:37Speaker 2: as a catcher, and he was always an athletic catcher,
- 19:39Speaker 2: and you know, good arms, ceiling bases, things like that,
- 19:42Speaker 2: so you can see how it translates. It's just and
- 19:44Speaker 2: I didn't research this. I just wonder how many centerfield
- 19:48Speaker 2: gold glovers at one point caught in the majors, and
- 19:51Speaker 2: I'm guessing the number is pretty gush darn small.
- 19:54Speaker 1: That's a great trivia question.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure how to use for a reference
- 20:00Speaker 2: that effectively.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Yeah, stead dot com if you want to sponsor us
- 20:05Speaker 1: and teach us how to use you appropriately, I can
- 20:07Speaker 1: do really simple stuff, but something like that maybe a
- 20:10Speaker 1: little bit beyond my research abilities, but also around it.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I'm going to try that for next week. Uh Yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 1: I think those are great guys to call it. Which
- 20:19Speaker 1: is funny because there's two more that I want to
- 20:22Speaker 1: call out that I thought maybe you would get. One
- 20:24Speaker 1: of these. First is Carlos Santana bringing home his first
- 20:27Speaker 1: gold Glove at the age of thirty eight, and he
- 20:32Speaker 1: deserved it by the defensive extrics. He's been pretty solid
- 20:36Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four, and it wasn't exactly the greatest
- 20:38Speaker 1: crop he had to beat out in the American League,
- 20:40Speaker 1: but certainly he deserved it, and there was actually a
- 20:43Speaker 1: report today that he wants to play like another four
- 20:45Speaker 1: years that if he does that, you know, it's going
- 20:49Speaker 1: to be interesting to see where he lands, and he's
- 20:53Speaker 1: going to become like one of the greatest immaculate grid
- 20:55Speaker 1: like people of all time, if that's possible. The other
- 20:58Speaker 1: one is Alex Bregman. It's his I believe it's his
- 21:01Speaker 1: first one, which is correct, just mostly because Matt Chapman
- 21:07Speaker 1: has been there forever. So now that Matt Chapman's out
- 21:10Speaker 1: of the AL, it cleared the way for Alex Bregman
- 21:13Speaker 1: as he enters free agency. So let's flip over to
- 21:16Speaker 1: the n L side. So we've got pitcher Chris Saale
- 21:21Speaker 1: from the Braves, catcher Patrick Bailey from the Giants, first
- 21:25Speaker 1: base Christian Walker from the Diamondbacks, second base Bryce Terrang
- 21:29Speaker 1: from the Brewers, third base Matt Chapman from the Giants.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Shortstop Ezekiel Tovar Colorado, who I will call out right now,
- 21:38Speaker 1: youngest shortstop Gold Glove winner of all time. So that's
- 21:42Speaker 1: a pretty big thing considering how I thought like shortstops
- 21:45Speaker 1: are when they come out or come up south. Freylck
- 21:48Speaker 1: outfield for the Brewers, So I think he is technically
- 21:52Speaker 1: the right fielder. Brenton Doyle gets the center field award
- 21:57Speaker 1: for the Rockies and Ian Happ left field for the
- 22:01Speaker 1: Chicago Cubs, utility player Jerry Triollo from the Pirates. So
- 22:05Speaker 1: who stands out from that crop of gold gloves in
- 22:07Speaker 1: the NL for you? Yeah?
- 22:09Speaker 2: I mean, I this this isn't There's a lot of
- 22:12Speaker 2: a lot of good names. There a lot of amazing players,
- 22:14Speaker 2: and you know, I want to talk about the Chapman's
- 22:15Speaker 2: of the world and the Britton Doyle's and that story,
- 22:17Speaker 2: but to me, it's Chris Saale and like you want
- 22:21Speaker 2: to call it the Greg Maddis effects of playing on
- 22:24Speaker 2: the Braves, but dude, through the through the triple Crown
- 22:27Speaker 2: and won a Gold Glove. Like, what's is there a
- 22:30Speaker 2: better potential end of season for that? I guess maybe
- 22:33Speaker 2: winning the m v P two. Like yeah, that's like,
- 22:38Speaker 2: that's absolutely incredible to have the pitching Triple Crown and
- 22:41Speaker 2: the Golden Glove. You literally did the best possible on
- 22:45Speaker 2: the mound that you that you could have by statistic measures,
- 22:48Speaker 2: And so I I think that that's just really cool
- 22:51Speaker 2: that he was able to do that, and it feels
- 22:53Speaker 2: like he was like not even thinking about that. Man,
- 22:56Speaker 2: I really had a great season. I got the triple
- 22:57Speaker 2: crowns and he just calls you up and be like
- 22:59Speaker 2: gold gloves too. He got him make a single layer
- 23:01Speaker 2: the entire season. And you know, for the lanky Chris Sale, like,
- 23:05Speaker 2: maybe that's just what it is that the arms are
- 23:07Speaker 2: seven feet long, just able to get a little bit
- 23:10Speaker 2: of everything. So Chris Sale jumps out to me, I
- 23:12Speaker 2: just I think that was just an incredible feat in itself.
- 23:15Speaker 2: So how about you. I already heard you kind of
- 23:18Speaker 2: hinting at Ezekiel Tovar. They're based on his youth, but
- 23:21Speaker 2: anybody else jump out to you?
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I just had to get that in because maybe
- 23:25Speaker 1: that is just the call out for Tovar, and as
- 23:27Speaker 1: we know, he's my boy. That Yeah, I love Ezequiel
- 23:31Speaker 1: Tovar so much and just his free swinging ways. I
- 23:35Speaker 1: want to call it. Christian Walker third straight at first
- 23:37Speaker 1: base and then Brenton Doyle second straight in the outfield
- 23:41Speaker 1: there in center field does feel like Brenton Doyle is
- 23:44Speaker 1: about to go on like a Kevin Kiermeyer brain of
- 23:47Speaker 1: center field defense that I could see him rallying off
- 23:50Speaker 1: like six to eight straight gold gloves because he is
- 23:54Speaker 1: absolutely sublime and has to cover all that ground in
- 23:57Speaker 1: couers field that it's really tough for anybody to come
- 24:00Speaker 1: close to any of his defensive metrics, let alone just
- 24:04Speaker 1: even the eye test Brenton Doyle stands out.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree. That's and that is a great
- 24:10Speaker 2: spot to be an athletic center fielder to be able
- 24:14Speaker 2: to highlight those plays. There's no more better else to
- 24:17Speaker 2: do it than Colorado.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Okay, Well, we also have qualifying our offers that went
- 24:22Speaker 1: out this week, so we'll cover in the next couple
- 24:26Speaker 1: of weeks, you know, as we get closer and closer
- 24:28Speaker 1: to the qualifying offer like deadline which is November nineteenth,
- 24:33Speaker 1: to pick our free agent destinations for some of the
- 24:36Speaker 1: top free agents. We did this last winter, and I
- 24:39Speaker 1: think it was a blast off to kind of tally
- 24:42Speaker 1: up what we had last time we did that so
- 24:43Speaker 1: that we can see how right we were, because honestly,
- 24:48Speaker 1: like even hitting like three or four, it is.
- 24:51Speaker 2: This is just like the answer C on every multiple
- 24:54Speaker 2: choice with Dodgers and over the best.
- 24:58Speaker 1: So for it's yeah, almost thirty multiple ti voices. I
- 25:00Speaker 1: guess it's a little slim down. We're not just like
- 25:02Speaker 1: totally guessing, but maybe I will. Maybe I'll just like
- 25:05Speaker 1: chimpanzees trying to write Shakespeare it and just go go
- 25:09Speaker 1: for a total random dice throw. But we had here's
- 25:14Speaker 1: the list of players who received the qualifying offer this year,
- 25:18Speaker 1: and I think we'll do the same thing that we
- 25:21Speaker 1: just did with the gold Gloves. Anybody if you want
- 25:23Speaker 1: to call out in terms of you were surprised that
- 25:25Speaker 1: they received a qualifying offer, or maybe think that you know,
- 25:29Speaker 1: this is the type of person who will end up
- 25:32Speaker 1: taking it. So we have Willia Dames shortstop from the Brewers,
- 25:36Speaker 1: Pete Alonso for a spaceman from the Mets, Alex Bregman
- 25:39Speaker 1: aforementioned Corbyn Burns or starting pitcher from the Orioles, Max
- 25:45Speaker 1: Fried starting pitcher from the Braves, Tiascar Hernandez outfielder for
- 25:49Speaker 1: the Dodgers, Sean and Iya starting pitcher for the Mets.
- 25:54Speaker 1: For some reason, every time I see that sp I
- 25:56Speaker 1: want to do shortstop. Nick Pivetta starting picture for the
- 26:00Speaker 1: Red Sox, Nick Martinez picture for the Reds. Anthony Santander
- 26:05Speaker 1: outfielder for the Orioles, Luis Severino, starting pitcher for the Mets,
- 26:09Speaker 1: Juan Soto outfielder for the Yankees, Christian Walker, first baseman
- 26:14Speaker 1: for the Dback. So of that list, who what kind
- 26:17Speaker 1: of pops out as surprising to you, Yeah, there's.
- 26:20Speaker 2: A few guys that kind of pop out is a
- 26:22Speaker 2: little surprising, And I would say the Mets are a
- 26:26Speaker 2: little interesting with both Manaia and Severino. They're like, that's
- 26:29Speaker 2: a bold move, Like, you know, we qualifying offer this
- 26:33Speaker 2: year is just over twenty one million dollars and so
- 26:35Speaker 2: that's forty two million dollars to those guys. But I
- 26:38Speaker 2: can kind of see it maybe maybe a slight overpay,
- 26:42Speaker 2: but maybe they sign it and you get an extension
- 26:45Speaker 2: or something like that.
- 26:47Speaker 1: So I feel like it's like they're trying to cover
- 26:50Speaker 1: themselves because right now that rotation in New York, they
- 26:52Speaker 1: need two or three starting pitchers because it's CODEI Senga,
- 26:56Speaker 1: David Peterson, Paul Blackburn, Tyler mcguil, Jose Budos. I think
- 27:00Speaker 1: that's part of it too, that they hope one or
- 27:02Speaker 1: both of those guys come back.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to say I think the Mets, for
- 27:07Speaker 2: all the qualifying offers they have because where they've been
- 27:10Speaker 2: at with the tax and I don't think they can
- 27:12Speaker 2: get that great of picks out of this deal if
- 27:14Speaker 2: I recall, but I'll say the one that jumps out
- 27:16Speaker 2: to me is Nick Pavetta for the Red Sox. And
- 27:22Speaker 2: you know this, this is the guy that his era
- 27:27Speaker 2: in his career has never been below four and you're
- 27:32Speaker 2: giving him a qualifying offer after a season where he
- 27:36Speaker 2: didn't get to thirty starts, and you know his historically,
- 27:40Speaker 2: he's kind of been hit or miss as far as
- 27:45Speaker 2: you know, how dominant he has been. He's been kind
- 27:47Speaker 2: of just like a cardiac kid to degree, and so
- 27:50Speaker 2: I'm a little surprised to see that Red Sox doing this.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I feel like they would have offered him like a
- 27:54Speaker 2: two year deal at thirty he probably would have just
- 27:56Speaker 2: taken it. And so that's that's what surprised me. And
- 27:59Speaker 2: I was looking if you if you look at this
- 28:02Speaker 2: up first, one, I'm impressed by by your you know,
- 28:05Speaker 2: exquisite skill and dedication to this pod. But what's Nick
- 28:10Speaker 2: Pavetta's career earnings?
- 28:13Speaker 1: Whoh so, yeah, because he is hitting I'm gonna guess
- 28:21Speaker 1: it's probably like thirty five million seventeen point nine million.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Really, okay, he is taking this qualifying offer. Is twenty
- 28:29Speaker 2: one million is more than he's earned it in his
- 28:31Speaker 2: entire career. He is taking this offer. No matter what
- 28:35Speaker 2: I'm going bold, he's taking it. He's a guy with
- 28:38Speaker 2: a four o RA now with a tag of the
- 28:41Speaker 2: qualifying offer. Of course he's taking it. So I was
- 28:48Speaker 2: just surprised at that. And yeah, I know, he's thirty one,
- 28:50Speaker 2: he's still got a few probably strong, strong years in him.
- 28:53Speaker 2: But it just feels like for the Red Sox, a
- 28:56Speaker 2: team that needs to, you know, maybe Reset, putting twenty
- 29:00Speaker 2: one million on a guy like that dust doesn't seem
- 29:03Speaker 2: like the wisest of moves to me. I get pitching's
- 29:06Speaker 2: got more expensive. I get your you know, the cost
- 29:09Speaker 2: of an average pitcher is probably what thirteen fourteen million now,
- 29:13Speaker 2: not fifteen Yeah, so maybe that's part of it, But
- 29:17Speaker 2: that one did stand out to me of a little
- 29:21Speaker 2: more aggressive than probably necessary. So tell me I'm wrong
- 29:25Speaker 2: or you kind of the same boat.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Here I am. I thought when you were saying Nick
- 29:30Speaker 1: though you were gonna go Nick Martinez, that just dumbfounding
- 29:33Speaker 1: that Nick Martinez turned that second half performance into a
- 29:38Speaker 1: qualifying offer he put it up. It ended up being
- 29:41Speaker 1: a three ten era over one hundred and forty two
- 29:43Speaker 1: and a third innings during the year, but it was
- 29:46Speaker 1: also crazy down the stretch. He turned positive fantasy value.
- 29:51Speaker 1: He was a huge fantasy ascid for people that had
- 29:53Speaker 1: him while all of all pitching in Cincinnati. But I
- 29:56Speaker 1: do think that like maybe part of this is we
- 30:00Speaker 1: have to kind of like update our priors to the
- 30:02Speaker 1: to the market a little bit that in all actuality
- 30:06Speaker 1: to get kind of like a mid rotation ish I
- 30:09Speaker 1: would say, like top halfish of a rotation starter or
- 30:14Speaker 1: twenty one million dollars and not having to commit the
- 30:16Speaker 1: long term deal. I think that is maybe a little
- 30:18Speaker 1: bit of what teams see here that sure, maybe you're
- 30:21Speaker 1: paying overpaying for one year, but like it's better than
- 30:25Speaker 1: committing one hundred or even just eighty million dollars to
- 30:28Speaker 1: one of these guys when you might get only one
- 30:31Speaker 1: one and a half like solid years out of them
- 30:33Speaker 1: if they blow out.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's a fair point of some of
- 30:36Speaker 2: these guys that you know, you're you are worried any
- 30:40Speaker 2: multi year deal with the picture anymore that you get
- 30:42Speaker 2: in and you go especially a two three year deal.
- 30:45Speaker 2: A guy gets hurt in the first year, yeah, and
- 30:46Speaker 2: the rest of us is gone, and so yeah, you
- 30:49Speaker 2: pay you know, three years sixty million, three years forty
- 30:53Speaker 2: five million, whatever that number is. You might just be
- 30:56Speaker 2: happy with the one year twenty one million because the
- 31:00Speaker 2: risk is low. If you were wrong, you know, by
- 31:03Speaker 2: the time you figured it out, you just let them
- 31:05Speaker 2: go next year. Right, It's it's not maybe that big
- 31:08Speaker 2: of a deal. So that is an interesting point. I
- 31:11Speaker 2: think that we probably are undervaluing the flexibility that the
- 31:18Speaker 2: guys on the one dear deal could bring. So good,
- 31:22Speaker 2: good point. I'll give you credit for that one.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and all in major markets except for Sinatti Reds.
- 31:27Speaker 1: But I think that's also just like a hey, we're
- 31:29Speaker 1: the Reds. We're not signing any pitcher on the open
- 31:31Speaker 1: market anyway, Come on back with Martinez.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Hey, maybe Nick Martinez is next year is Cole Reagan's
- 31:36Speaker 2: and we'll figure it out.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Then, Yeah, it's possible. I mean, it's a weeknd change up,
- 31:41Speaker 1: so we'll see if he can keep it going. Okay,
- 31:43Speaker 1: let's also cover some of the players who didn't actually
- 31:46Speaker 1: get a qualifying offer and whether any of these were
- 31:49Speaker 1: surprising to you as well. So we have first baseman
- 31:52Speaker 1: Paul Goldsmith from the Cardinals, picture from the Dodgers Walker Beeler,
- 31:57Speaker 1: another pitcher Shane Bieber from the Guardians, outfielders Jerks and
- 32:03Speaker 1: Profar from the Padres, and or infielder Hassan Kim for
- 32:07Speaker 1: the Padres as well, Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill, and
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yankee second baseman Labor Torres.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so for me, most of these makes sense. I mean,
- 32:18Speaker 2: on the surface, maybe you could be argue little support
- 32:22Speaker 2: prized with that guy like Buehler, maybe even a guy
- 32:26Speaker 2: like O'Neil with what he had a pretty good season.
- 32:30Speaker 2: But at the same time, there's a lot of risk
- 32:33Speaker 2: with with those guys. I go back to the Red
- 32:36Speaker 2: Sox with O'Neil, because we just talked about Paveta, Like
- 32:38Speaker 2: if you're doing that anyway. The one that does jump
- 32:42Speaker 2: out to me is Hassan Kim. Is is I look
- 32:45Speaker 2: at guys that are like slam dunks for multi year
- 32:50Speaker 2: deals in the market. I mean, the guy just turned
- 32:53Speaker 2: twenty nine years old, like yeah, two weeks ago, and
- 32:56Speaker 2: he can play second, he can play short, he is
- 32:59Speaker 2: a good, good fielder and he is a good hitter.
- 33:03Speaker 2: I mean his you know, he had a little bit
- 33:06Speaker 2: of down season, but still, gosh darn useful he is.
- 33:09Speaker 2: You know WRC plus here of one a one, so
- 33:13Speaker 2: just that league average, but you know, one ten last year,
- 33:17Speaker 2: one O five. Like he's a very very solid, useful player.
- 33:22Speaker 2: And it seems like kind of kind of think the
- 33:25Speaker 2: Padres would want to try to capitalize on it, not
- 33:27Speaker 2: because they were thinking he'd accept it, just because it
- 33:30Speaker 2: feels like a free draft pick compensation to me. So
- 33:33Speaker 2: that's the one that surprised me a little bit because
- 33:35Speaker 2: I just think that he had what was going to
- 33:37Speaker 2: have all kinds of options on the market and they're
- 33:41Speaker 2: not going to get the benefit of it. And man,
- 33:43Speaker 2: when does Aj Preller ever cautious?
- 33:47Speaker 1: That is true? Yeah, that's a good point. I hadn't
- 33:49Speaker 1: really thought about that. Yeah, it would be funny to
- 33:52Speaker 1: go back and rewind two years into the past, and well,
- 33:57Speaker 1: amongst for warning people about maybe other things, to also
- 34:03Speaker 1: go back and warned them that, like, hey, Paul Goldschmid
- 34:07Speaker 1: not gonna get a qualifying offer when that deal is up.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I bet it would have blown their minds.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Yeah, the fact that he even got, I was like,
- 34:15Speaker 2: let go, that's probably what's gonna blow their minds. So
- 34:19Speaker 2: all right.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Well, let's get into some signings and trades that have
- 34:22Speaker 1: happened here as we opened the first week of the
- 34:25Speaker 1: off season. First one is we have Michael Waka re
- 34:28Speaker 1: upping with the Kansas City Royals for three years so
- 34:31Speaker 1: he will not hit the free agent market, coming off
- 34:33Speaker 1: a fantastic year in Kansas City in which the he
- 34:37Speaker 1: really led. Well, I guess your boy called Reagan's led
- 34:41Speaker 1: the Royals rotation to a wild card berth But Waco
- 34:44Speaker 1: went thirteen and eight with a three three five ERA
- 34:48Speaker 1: over one hundred and sixty two and two thirds innings
- 34:50Speaker 1: with one hundred and forty five strikeouts and a one
- 34:53Speaker 1: nineteen whip. So not only was he irl good, but
- 34:56Speaker 1: Waca was a fantasy like two or three as well.
- 35:00Speaker 1: So what do you think Waka can do going into
- 35:04Speaker 1: twenty twenty five and honestly, maybe even further into the future,
- 35:07Speaker 1: because like it's he is older, he's getting up to
- 35:11Speaker 1: he's thirty three years old. We'll turn thirty four in July.
- 35:15Speaker 1: But I mean still viable probably in dynasty leagues as
- 35:19Speaker 1: well too, Right, Yeah, I.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Mean, I still see Waka kind of on the back
- 35:24Speaker 2: end of the rotation options for me. You know, he he
- 35:27Speaker 2: is pitching in a park, this little concerning that it
- 35:31Speaker 2: does do better than what we generally expect. He isn't
- 35:35Speaker 2: a high strikeout guy. He's just in, you know, kind
- 35:39Speaker 2: of an Indians eater type. And you know, even the
- 35:42Speaker 2: last four years he has not top thirty starts. So
- 35:47Speaker 2: you know, between not getting enough strikeouts, not necessarily you know,
- 35:50Speaker 2: sticking around enough, he's more to that back end of
- 35:54Speaker 2: the rotation where I'm glad to get him if I
- 35:57Speaker 2: got him for cheap, but I'm not sticking him there
- 36:00Speaker 2: too much because he's just okay for my for my ratios,
- 36:04Speaker 2: he's just okay for my strikeouts. But there's a lot
- 36:08Speaker 2: worse options out there, and so I think that's one
- 36:10Speaker 2: of those where you can pick up Waka pretty gush
- 36:13Speaker 2: darn reasonably, and as long as he's not like the plan,
- 36:17Speaker 2: you're pretty happy with Michael Waka. So really excited for
- 36:21Speaker 2: him because you know, he's kind of bounced all over
- 36:24Speaker 2: the last few years. See Saint Louis in nineteen, Mets
- 36:28Speaker 2: in twenty, Tampa in twenty one, Boston twenty two, San
- 36:31Speaker 2: Diego twenty three, in Kansas City in twenty four, So
- 36:33Speaker 2: he's probably just happy to stay home for once as
- 36:36Speaker 2: he gets through this one. So I'm a little luke
- 36:39Speaker 2: war on Waka from a fancy perspective, mostly because of
- 36:41Speaker 2: the strikeouts. But there's there's worst choices out there because
- 36:46Speaker 2: I'm probably gonna say I'm all in on tent or
- 36:47Speaker 2: how can he have the same issue?
- 36:50Speaker 1: Yeah, very true that here. I'm gonna look it up
- 36:53Speaker 1: just because I'm interested from my own perspective. Okay, So,
- 36:57Speaker 1: since the beginning of twenty twenty one, my Waka has
- 37:01Speaker 1: made ninety nine starts. Where do you think that ranks
- 37:04Speaker 1: in Major League Baseball? Oh?
- 37:07Speaker 2: Geez, because you're setting me up here, it's gonna be
- 37:11Speaker 2: higher than I think. And so I'm gonna say it's
- 37:15Speaker 2: top thirty.
- 37:17Speaker 1: You're close. It's forty second, tied with Chris Lackson. I'm
- 37:23Speaker 1: not sure that made your point or not. No, some
- 37:27Speaker 1: of the people ahead of him not not worth owning.
- 37:30Speaker 1: But I mean top fifty, So I mean I do
- 37:33Speaker 1: think that. Like that is what I like about Waka
- 37:36Speaker 1: is he's going to sneak up on you the way
- 37:38Speaker 1: A lot the way that like Seth Lugo did last year.
- 37:40Speaker 1: That I mean, I think some people will be more
- 37:43Speaker 1: keen than on Walk after the thirteen win season. But
- 37:46Speaker 1: like certainly if he if he slips all at all
- 37:49Speaker 1: in drafts and people are going out there and taking
- 37:52Speaker 1: the next hot thing and chasing prospects or fireballers, Waka's
- 37:58Speaker 1: pretty steady, especially if you're looking for somebody to pair
- 38:01Speaker 1: with maybe a little more volatile like pitching staff, that
- 38:05Speaker 1: I think he's a great option for fantasy. Okay, well,
- 38:09Speaker 1: we had one trade that happened as well, and it
- 38:13Speaker 1: was between the Braves and the Angels as they swapped
- 38:17Speaker 1: Jorge Solaire straight up for Griffin Canning. So Canning will
- 38:21Speaker 1: be going over to Atlanta after being honestly like one
- 38:25Speaker 1: of the worst fantasy pitchers in the entire pool. This
- 38:29Speaker 1: year absolutely killed you, especially if you had him like
- 38:31Speaker 1: some sort of Gladiator league or best ball league that
- 38:35Speaker 1: you know ran out of players because they were injured
- 38:38Speaker 1: because Waka or not Waka sorry. Canning put up a
- 38:42Speaker 1: five nineteen year ear over one hundred and seventy one
- 38:44Speaker 1: and two thirds innings over thirty one starts. So he
- 38:47Speaker 1: pitched all season and pitched real poorly. For you, Jorge
- 38:50Speaker 1: Solaire is going to go out to back to the
- 38:53Speaker 1: West Coast here after getting traded from the Giants to
- 38:56Speaker 1: the Braves in season, coming off a pretty he actually hates.
- 39:01Speaker 1: The numbers came in better than I would have expected
- 39:04Speaker 1: considering how he played with the Giants. He ended up
- 39:07Speaker 1: slashing two forty one three thirty eight. That's good for
- 39:10Speaker 1: a one to nineteen WRC plus with twenty one homers,
- 39:14Speaker 1: eighty four runs and sixty four RBI. The runs total
- 39:17Speaker 1: is a lot higher than usually just because he batted
- 39:19Speaker 1: like lead off a lot for both San Francisco and
- 39:23Speaker 1: Atlanta at times. So who do you think won this
- 39:27Speaker 1: trade and what do you think this will do for
- 39:29Speaker 1: their fancy values going into twenty twenty five.
- 39:33Speaker 2: I mean, to me, the Braves won this trade, But
- 39:35Speaker 2: it's really just trying to dig out of the fact
- 39:37Speaker 2: that they took Solar on the from the Giants and
- 39:39Speaker 2: took every pin in that contract over the summer, and
- 39:43Speaker 2: so clearly they were just trying to jolt the offense
- 39:46Speaker 2: and then they just shipped him out for a salary relief,
- 39:49Speaker 2: and you have to give them credit there a credit
- 39:52Speaker 2: in the front office for making moves early in the offseason,
- 39:56Speaker 2: and I don't know what the Angels are doing. And
- 39:58Speaker 2: this is a common thread with the Angels, was bring
- 40:02Speaker 2: Hora Solaira in and Kyle Hendricks and hope for the best.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Like it, it seems like a overpay for Solaire. To
- 40:10Speaker 2: your point, he did actually do better than I think
- 40:12Speaker 2: we realized this year, because he did come in, come
- 40:15Speaker 2: on on at the end of the season when people
- 40:16Speaker 2: probably weren't looking. But I do think that so there's
- 40:21Speaker 2: much more downside so Layer, and you could you didn't
- 40:25Speaker 2: need to pay the money you're paying So Layer for
- 40:27Speaker 2: a guy to kind of put up a potentially similar line.
- 40:30Speaker 2: I think the Angels probably have other guys that they
- 40:33Speaker 2: would like to give a shot, you know, the guy
- 40:35Speaker 2: that can hit two forty and twenty homers, like if
- 40:39Speaker 2: that's where he ends up going into his age thirty
- 40:44Speaker 2: three season. Here, I just feel like there's better allocation
- 40:47Speaker 2: of funds. And you know, I think that's what the
- 40:49Speaker 2: Braids were doing. They were just trying to free some
- 40:51Speaker 2: money up. So I take the brave side here, just
- 40:54Speaker 2: because they got out from under a contract and that's
- 40:57Speaker 2: all this really.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Was, yeah, and you do you have to like it
- 41:01Speaker 1: looks good on paper for Solaire to find somewhere with
- 41:04Speaker 1: great playing time, good home run park. But the Angels
- 41:09Speaker 1: are one of those teams where I do not trust
- 41:12Speaker 1: the training staff whatsoever. The White Socks are also in
- 41:15Speaker 1: this boat. The Mets were in this boat, but I
- 41:17Speaker 1: feel like they've come out of it a little bit
- 41:19Speaker 1: since Steve Cohen showed up and invested money in the team.
- 41:22Speaker 1: But the Angels. You're also looking at somebody in Solaire
- 41:26Speaker 1: who's dealt with a lot of soft tissue injuries over
- 41:28Speaker 1: the years, between obliques and hamstrings and quads, and that
- 41:33Speaker 1: is not a recipe for anything but a disaster. So
- 41:37Speaker 1: it will look I think, tempting on paper, but I'm
- 41:39Speaker 1: not gonna be picking up to me Solaire Shares myself
- 41:43Speaker 1: unless it is a super rock bottom bargain bin price.
- 41:47Speaker 1: This is also what I was hinting at with mon Sota.
- 41:49Speaker 1: This does feel a little bit like the Braves are
- 41:52Speaker 1: clearing out a spot to really make a big pursuit
- 41:55Speaker 1: at Wan Soto. Right, Like you've got all that those
- 41:58Speaker 1: undermarket contracts between Azzi Albiz and Acunya and Austin Riley
- 42:05Speaker 1: and just like everybody else that they've put together down
- 42:07Speaker 1: there Sean Murphy that you know they're signed to below
- 42:11Speaker 1: market contracts. You got to think that this is the
- 42:15Speaker 1: time to cash in on that. Why not just step
- 42:18Speaker 1: like on everybody's throats in the in the NL East
- 42:21Speaker 1: and really pursue Wan Soto. I think that the Braves
- 42:25Speaker 1: really need to be in with the Mets and Yankees
- 42:28Speaker 1: and match whatever best offer gets put down, because if
- 42:32Speaker 1: they can pair Acunya and Soto together, and they should
- 42:35Speaker 1: be able to give in Acunya's contract, that is going
- 42:38Speaker 1: to be a behemoth forever, considering especially Atlanta's pitching development prowess.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Yeah, so I just did not pick up on that,
- 42:48Speaker 2: but I think you're making a good call here. So
- 42:49Speaker 2: I'm just looking at some numbers. The final payroll for
- 42:53Speaker 2: twenty twenty four was two hundred and thirty five million
- 42:56Speaker 2: right now going into next year, the projector around two
- 43:00Speaker 2: fifteen after ARB and that's assuming they pick up Griffin
- 43:05Speaker 2: Cannon's five million, Ramon Loreano's six million, and a few others,
- 43:10Speaker 2: which I don't think will happen. So you have to
- 43:12Speaker 2: think there's another twelve or so coming off of that,
- 43:15Speaker 2: and so that's right there, about thirty million available just
- 43:20Speaker 2: based on the last year where they're at, and that's
- 43:24Speaker 2: just for twenty five and then that that falls off
- 43:27Speaker 2: a cliff coming into the free agency here, so you
- 43:31Speaker 2: rascill like Lecias Marcelo Zuna becoming free agents, and then
- 43:37Speaker 2: they have club options on a number of guys like
- 43:41Speaker 2: Pierce Johnson, Albi's are ce sale things like that. So
- 43:46Speaker 2: it does seem that they've kind of opened things up
- 43:50Speaker 2: for themselves to make a move. And if they want
- 43:53Speaker 2: to pay them fifty million a year, which is probably
- 43:56Speaker 2: going to take something like that, Yeah, it's actually actually
- 44:00Speaker 2: not a big deal for the Braves, like they will
- 44:03Speaker 2: actually have a spending room after that relative easily. So
- 44:07Speaker 2: I like your call here. Only question I have is
- 44:10Speaker 2: they did pick up Ozuna for a sixteen mil, and
- 44:15Speaker 2: there's no way you couldn't. But if you're really trying
- 44:18Speaker 2: to make a play for Sodo that that, you know,
- 44:21Speaker 2: you would have liked to have a little bit more available.
- 44:23Speaker 2: But they can, they can, they can ship out a
- 44:26Speaker 2: guy like Raylodo Lopez or Joe Jimenez or something like that. Uh,
- 44:32Speaker 2: and free up another seven to nine million without too
- 44:35Speaker 2: much effort. And it's uh an anthropolist out there. He's
- 44:38Speaker 2: gonna do those kind of things, and he's gonna do
- 44:40Speaker 2: him quick. The thing we know with one Sodo and
- 44:44Speaker 2: the Braves, if they're sign him, it's gonna be like
- 44:45Speaker 2: next week. They like to get.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Things done that. Yeah. Maybe not Joe Jimenez because I
- 44:52Speaker 1: didn't put him in the reundown, but he actually is
- 44:54Speaker 1: out for the season.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Well never mind, Yeah I missed that is.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Like yesterday, two days ago he had, I.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Say, Joe himans I met Pierce Johnson.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Yeah. I also feel bad because in the one decent
- 45:05Speaker 1: Draft Champions that I did in f PAS, the the
- 45:08Speaker 1: let because we did like twenty three rounds and we're
- 45:10Speaker 1: gonna pick it back up in January, the last pick
- 45:12Speaker 1: of that draft was Joe Jimenez because like saves were
- 45:16Speaker 1: absolutely impossible to find. So sorry to that bro.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Yeah that's rough.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Okay. Next, we have a couple of front office transactions
- 45:27Speaker 1: to get through, and so first one is Zach Manesian,
- 45:31Speaker 1: who is Perrymnesian's brother, speaking of the Angels, was hired
- 45:35Speaker 1: on as the Giants DM, so he will be entering
- 45:40Speaker 1: into that foray, underneath Buster Posey and running I would
- 45:45Speaker 1: think more of kind of like the nitty gritty roster
- 45:47Speaker 1: management as Buster Posey is probably a little bit more
- 45:50Speaker 1: of like the face of that front office as Pobo.
- 45:52Speaker 1: And then we also have Skip Schoemaker joining the Texas
- 45:56Speaker 1: Rangers as a senior advisor, which should pretty much I mean,
- 45:59Speaker 1: that spells out that I think Bruce Bochi's probably going
- 46:02Speaker 1: to retire after twenty twenty five. That that seems kind
- 46:05Speaker 1: of where that is heading again. You know, Boshi came
- 46:09Speaker 1: out of retirement to join the Rangers, won that World Series,
- 46:12Speaker 1: and Shoemaker especially being probably the premier managerial candidate on
- 46:19Speaker 1: the market, that like, yeah, makes sense for him to
- 46:22Speaker 1: find a good landing spot instead of I think he
- 46:26Speaker 1: did pull his name out that Chicago White Sox gig.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Like now that this got lined up, but what do
- 46:32Speaker 1: you think about these moves here between Manasian younger Minesian
- 46:36Speaker 1: joining the Giants and Shoemaker joining the Texas Rangers.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Well, Manasium was with the Giants. I think already he's
- 46:42Speaker 2: just getting promoted, okay, and so like not a big
- 46:45Speaker 2: chakra there, he's you know, I think he's gonna be
- 46:48Speaker 2: Bozy bluster. Posey's right, and man, but I think she's
- 46:53Speaker 2: the Shoemaker deal is incredibly interesting because that is quite
- 46:57Speaker 2: the foresight by Chris Young there in Texas to because
- 47:01Speaker 2: you're absolutely right, like it lines up for Skip didn't
- 47:04Speaker 2: get the Reds job, which he probably wanted, and then
- 47:09Speaker 2: he was looking at this White Sox job and like,
- 47:11Speaker 2: I really don't want this, but I would like to
- 47:14Speaker 2: have a job, and clearly he was going to be
- 47:17Speaker 2: back with Miami and so he was the premiere candidate
- 47:20Speaker 2: there by far. And you're right, Bochi's he's at the
- 47:24Speaker 2: end of the line here. He can't keep coaching, and
- 47:27Speaker 2: so there's no question that they're just keeping Shoemacher warm
- 47:31Speaker 2: and looking at him as an easy plug in for
- 47:35Speaker 2: when that time comes. And so I think it's a
- 47:38Speaker 2: brilliant move because they are kind of stacking the bench
- 47:41Speaker 2: to get the minor leagues and managers type thing going on,
- 47:43Speaker 2: and Skip Schumacher, I think will do really well with
- 47:47Speaker 2: that club. So nothing like getting a little exposure, having
- 47:52Speaker 2: good succession planning things like that. And they also let
- 47:55Speaker 2: him bring over Luis Eureta as the bench coach who
- 48:02Speaker 2: was also a skip there in Miami, So like read
- 48:04Speaker 2: the tea leaves here, like, yes, skips the manager in
- 48:07Speaker 2: twenty six in Texas.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Right, absolutely, yeah, Yeah, that's the That's the other thing
- 48:12Speaker 1: I was going to point out too, is that, yeah,
- 48:14Speaker 1: Eureta coming over from Miami who replaced Skipshee Maker as
- 48:18Speaker 1: the interim coach there and comes across that it's pretty
- 48:22Speaker 1: clear that Boshi's going to kind of go on a
- 48:26Speaker 1: farewell tour here in twenty six.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Yeah, he deserves it.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely easy. Hall of Famer. So next we well,
- 48:35Speaker 1: we're gonna end up taking a little bit of a
- 48:38Speaker 1: break and coming back with Top Stadium Club Overview. But
- 48:40Speaker 1: before we do that, we have some calendar updates for
- 48:43Speaker 1: the Baseball card releases. So as we're speaking today on
- 48:47Speaker 1: November sixth, we have Top Stadium Club hitting stores out there,
- 48:51Speaker 1: so we'll be in hobby shops and retail stores in Blasters,
- 48:55Speaker 1: but we'll get into, you know, some of the different
- 48:58Speaker 1: ways you can buy. It came out today. Next week
- 49:01Speaker 1: which we'll also preview next week in our podcast is
- 49:04Speaker 1: eleven thirteen. We have TOPS Chrome update coming out eleven twenty.
- 49:09Speaker 1: They put it on the calendar. Finally, Tops Holiday is
- 49:11Speaker 1: coming out, so we'll both be jazz for that. We'll
- 49:13Speaker 1: probably actually maybe even preview that next week because we
- 49:16Speaker 1: should have a checklist and everything. And then we have
- 49:19Speaker 1: added to the calendar the ominous to be determined Bowman
- 49:23Speaker 1: Draft twenty twenty four coming out. They've got the pre
- 49:26Speaker 1: order out on Tops which will hit and open up
- 49:30Speaker 1: on November seventh, So I mean, I guess there might
- 49:34Speaker 1: be like a handful as that goes out there that
- 49:36Speaker 1: lickus into this pod right when it comes out. They
- 49:39Speaker 1: might beat it to the pre order, but otherwise I
- 49:42Speaker 1: wouldn't count on getting any of those pre order Bowman
- 49:45Speaker 1: Drafts in by the time you get around till see
- 49:47Speaker 1: this pod. It should sell up pretty quickly on tops
- 49:49Speaker 1: dot com. So I know you're going to be excited
- 49:52Speaker 1: for all four of these that this is kind of
- 49:55Speaker 1: an account part of the calendar. You love brew, So
- 49:58Speaker 1: which of these sets are are you really honed in
- 50:00Speaker 1: on other than Stadium Club that we're gonna get into.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think for me it's usually I
- 50:06Speaker 2: mean usually say Holiday, but I'm gonna have to go
- 50:08Speaker 2: with Chrome Update this time around. I had a buddy
- 50:12Speaker 2: reach out to me a week or two back and
- 50:15Speaker 2: he was just, hey, I got some cash, looking to
- 50:17Speaker 2: buy some cards, just looking to get a flagship set,
- 50:21Speaker 2: a few boxes. What should I what should I go for?
- 50:24Speaker 2: And like update all day? That thing is loaded, that
- 50:27Speaker 2: thing is fun. Go for update. Uh, there's so much
- 50:31Speaker 2: things you can you can you can go through there,
- 50:33Speaker 2: And I think that applies for you know, Top Chrome Update.
- 50:36Speaker 2: It's you know, it's yours, Paul Sken's chases, it's all those.
- 50:40Speaker 2: So I think that that fun of chasing the big names,
- 50:44Speaker 2: the big rookies and what could be a really really
- 50:46Speaker 2: strong product is gonna take over the the glitz and
- 50:51Speaker 2: the glamb that is Top Soliday. So just this time,
- 50:54Speaker 2: we'll flip it back next year back to Top Holiday. Nice.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I mean maybe might be going forward Tops
- 51:01Speaker 1: Chrome Update because we'll get into it a little bit
- 51:03Speaker 1: more next week. But they will have those pro debut
- 51:06Speaker 1: patches that are being worn in Tops Chrome Update again
- 51:09Speaker 1: this year. They had that last year. So it does
- 51:12Speaker 1: seem like it's going to be something pretty consistent, especially
- 51:14Speaker 1: given the rookie class that came through this year. Obviously
- 51:18Speaker 1: it's going to be anchored by the strength of the
- 51:21Speaker 1: rookie class. But I think you did a great job
- 51:24Speaker 1: of advising your buddy.
- 51:25Speaker 2: Yeah I did too, but.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Well, yes, glad to confirm it for you. Okay, Well,
- 51:31Speaker 1: like I said, we're going to take a short break,
- 51:33Speaker 1: but stick around and we will be back to discuss
- 51:36Speaker 1: the release of twenty twenty four Top Stadium Clubs. All right,
- 51:56Speaker 1: welcome back everybody. We are going to discuss the new
- 52:00Speaker 1: Tops release twenty twenty four Stadium Club which is pretty
- 52:04Speaker 1: consistently our number one release every year that it's been
- 52:08Speaker 1: a favorite for us and lots of collectors out there,
- 52:11Speaker 1: partly because of all the products out there. Stadium Club
- 52:15Speaker 1: I think reaches the just great intersection of gorgeous cards
- 52:20Speaker 1: and write price point. So if you go out there
- 52:23Speaker 1: on tops dot com or hobby shops or retail locations
- 52:27Speaker 1: to get those value boxes, orphanags dot com I think
- 52:30Speaker 1: will still have some of the Stadium Club product you're
- 52:33Speaker 1: looking at. Your options to be able to buy them
- 52:35Speaker 1: are a hobby box which will run you somewhere between
- 52:39Speaker 1: like one hundred and forty one hundred and fifty bucks,
- 52:42Speaker 1: a compact box which will be somewhere around like sixty
- 52:47Speaker 1: to eighty, it'll kind of somewhere be in that range,
- 52:50Speaker 1: but that's essentially like a half of the hobby Box.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Hobby Box will have two autos, the Compact will have
- 52:55Speaker 1: one auto in it, and then after that you have
- 52:57Speaker 1: your value box blasters, which are kind of your standard
- 53:00Speaker 1: like twenty five dollars blaster that you find anywhere like
- 53:04Speaker 1: targets and walmarts and stuff like that. So it's a
- 53:06Speaker 1: very very affordable product on par with really like flagship overall.
- 53:11Speaker 1: But you know, you don't have to worry about having
- 53:12Speaker 1: to like sort out do I want a hobby Box
- 53:14Speaker 1: or a Jumbo or this and that, as well as
- 53:17Speaker 1: like it does have I would say, a much more
- 53:20Speaker 1: trimmed down checklist overall in terms of we're only looking
- 53:23Speaker 1: at a three hundred card set here, pretty limited inserts,
- 53:29Speaker 1: and so with that kind of all together, I feel
- 53:33Speaker 1: like Stadium Club shines because they're able to focus on
- 53:35Speaker 1: the photography, because they get just absolutely gorgeous photos. They
- 53:39Speaker 1: have a pretty nice, glossy little finish on the card.
- 53:42Speaker 1: So all those things add up to it being what's
- 53:45Speaker 1: been really one of my favorite releases since like I
- 53:49Speaker 1: loved collecting these, going back to you know, nineteen ninety
- 53:52Speaker 1: one and nineteen ninety two when they first came out,
- 53:54Speaker 1: then they got a little wonky in like the nineties,
- 53:56Speaker 1: but in like a fun nineties way. I would say
- 53:59Speaker 1: that this design returns to that a little bit of
- 54:01Speaker 1: like we've got a much more fun design on the
- 54:07Speaker 1: front of them compared to what we've had for the
- 54:09Speaker 1: past couple of years. So that's kind of the intro
- 54:12Speaker 1: here to Stadium Club. We're going to go through some
- 54:14Speaker 1: of the other highlights, but what stands out to you
- 54:17Speaker 1: this year going into twenty twenty four as we look
- 54:20Speaker 1: at Stadium Club overall as a product for you grew.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, first thing always stands out Stadium Club
- 54:26Speaker 2: is the photography always great, always does a great job.
- 54:29Speaker 2: And like when we talk about clean cards, that's Stadium Club.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Like the basic, simple, you know design that they have
- 54:36Speaker 2: on there. It always it just focuses on the photography,
- 54:40Speaker 2: not on the art of the card. And I absolutely
- 54:42Speaker 2: love that. The other thing that kind of jumps out
- 54:45Speaker 2: to me this year is that they've got a few
- 54:48Speaker 2: you know, new things kind kind of coming in as
- 54:52Speaker 2: far as you know, insert sets to Chase and I
- 54:55Speaker 2: and I'm gonna call out one of them before you
- 54:57Speaker 2: even go there. And then I'm I'm really interest because
- 55:01Speaker 2: I was slow to the ballgame on on these. And
- 55:03Speaker 2: then they got a variation, so the uh Triumvirates the
- 55:07Speaker 2: kind of the three card sets. It took me forever
- 55:10Speaker 2: to realize that the three cards you put together create
- 55:12Speaker 2: like one big card.
- 55:14Speaker 1: And I remember when I told that to you last
- 55:17Speaker 1: year and named I could just like literally see your
- 55:19Speaker 1: your like rain explode your mind.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Just like I just thought these were just like weird die.
- 55:24Speaker 1: Cuts, which they are, but they are, but.
- 55:28Speaker 2: They actually go together. And what I like that they
- 55:30Speaker 2: did this year is they have a new uh nickname
- 55:33Speaker 2: variation of this where you you know, would pick you
- 55:38Speaker 2: were There's I think five players in this with show
- 55:41Speaker 2: Hey Willie May's King, Griffy Nicky Mannel, and Jason Jason Dominguez,
- 55:44Speaker 2: which one of these is not like the other.
- 55:47Speaker 1: And the Martian. It's also like an all timers a
- 55:50Speaker 1: nickname you know.
- 55:51Speaker 2: It is, but uh it's three cards that go together,
- 55:54Speaker 2: and in the background of the card it has their
- 55:56Speaker 2: you know, the nickname. So for really maze like to say, hey,
- 55:59Speaker 2: kid in there. And so I think it's short printed,
- 56:03Speaker 2: not easy to get. I think these are one in
- 56:08Speaker 2: fifty packs from the Hobby one in seventy two, kind
- 56:14Speaker 2: of a fat pack perspective, and there's about PNT runs
- 56:18Speaker 2: about four thousand for each card, and so think about it.
- 56:20Speaker 2: You got to get three of them and put them
- 56:22Speaker 2: together to have that display, and then good luck finding
- 56:24Speaker 2: a top leader for that. So I think that's a
- 56:29Speaker 2: really cool dynamic and something that they do a good
- 56:33Speaker 2: job to get. The photography is still great on those,
- 56:35Speaker 2: but it is a very creative, unique thing about Stadium
- 56:40Speaker 2: Club that I like the variation that they're doing this
- 56:42Speaker 2: year and so has nothing to do that. I was
- 56:44Speaker 2: just slow to the party on it and everything to
- 56:47Speaker 2: do with the variation this time that that was jumping
- 56:50Speaker 2: out to me. So how about you, Is there anything
- 56:52Speaker 2: that really jumps out this year of unique, fun, exciting
- 56:56Speaker 2: things about Stadium Club.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, first to make you maybe feel low bit better,
- 57:00Speaker 1: I was maybe only a year at most a year
- 57:04Speaker 1: ahead of you on realizing triumvirnce was actually you put
- 57:08Speaker 1: all three of them together, Because then for the twenty
- 57:11Speaker 1: twenty three set last year, I put together the red
- 57:16Speaker 1: foil parallels of all the cardinals together, and it looks
- 57:18Speaker 1: pretty good all together, But like you said, it does
- 57:21Speaker 1: require trying to find some custom way to display them
- 57:25Speaker 1: the way that you would have like a booklet insert.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Especially Yeah, if you rip some Allen and Ginter from
- 57:29Speaker 1: last week and got one of those booklets, good luck
- 57:31Speaker 1: trying to find a way to store that. But what
- 57:35Speaker 1: stands up for me, I think I've always loved being
- 57:38Speaker 1: Team Beam. Team inserts always have just a special place
- 57:41Speaker 1: in my heart, not only because of my love of
- 57:44Speaker 1: Stadium Club going back into the nineties, but also the
- 57:48Speaker 1: crossover into basketball that in the nineties I was honestly
- 57:52Speaker 1: probably about an equal baseball and basketball collector. That the
- 57:56Speaker 1: card that I especially like, always wanted and I love
- 58:00Speaker 1: and it shows is the nineteen ninety two ninety three
- 58:03Speaker 1: Michael Jordan Beam Team card from Stadium Club. And this
- 58:06Speaker 1: is originally a basketball only insert, but they've poorted it
- 58:10Speaker 1: over across to Stadium Club twenty twenty four, so it
- 58:14Speaker 1: is pretty highly short printed. That like there was a
- 58:18Speaker 1: couple of years there where the Beam teams weren't as
- 58:21Speaker 1: short printed, but they've gotten back to that practice the
- 58:24Speaker 1: way they had them in the nineties, and it is
- 58:27Speaker 1: just like one of these seminal like nineties designs in
- 58:32Speaker 1: my head that like, I will post a picture of
- 58:34Speaker 1: it on the related rasball post to this, which I
- 58:37Speaker 1: show kicked off with. I guess is that if you're
- 58:39Speaker 1: looking for pictures of any of the designs that we're
- 58:42Speaker 1: talking about and you can't envision them through art, great
- 58:45Speaker 1: flowery poetry about these cards, check out rasball dot com.
- 58:49Speaker 1: There'll be a related post where you can look at
- 58:51Speaker 1: all of these cards and kind of get a sense
- 58:53Speaker 1: of what we're talking about. But the one that you'll
- 58:55Speaker 1: be able to see is the Ella de la Cruz
- 58:57Speaker 1: Beam Team. It is just like the sides of it,
- 59:01Speaker 1: it's got the silvers pattern, but it'll be like a
- 59:03Speaker 1: foil and it's gonna it will light up your face
- 59:06Speaker 1: in just like a very nostalgic way when you get
- 59:09Speaker 1: a hold of this one in every two hundred and
- 59:11Speaker 1: fifty six hobby packs. So these things are gonna be
- 59:15Speaker 1: hot and they're gonna be hard to chase. That like,
- 59:18Speaker 1: it's gonna be a tough one to go out and buy.
- 59:20Speaker 1: But I guess if you really want one, maybe let
- 59:23Speaker 1: the market settle a little bit over the next couple
- 59:26Speaker 1: of weeks and then and then make that pursuit. Otherwise,
- 59:28Speaker 1: if you find one of these being team inserts and
- 59:31Speaker 1: anything you're opening over the next couple of weeks, make
- 59:33Speaker 1: sure to get that thing listened on eBay very quickly
- 59:36Speaker 1: because people will be trying to put this insert set together.
- 59:39Speaker 1: And there's roughly only three hundred of the cards total
- 59:42Speaker 1: out there. It's gonna be a tough insert set to
- 59:44Speaker 1: put together.
- 59:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're You're absolutely right, and I'm just
- 59:49Speaker 2: looking at some of the like the sale prices on
- 59:52Speaker 2: these already on eBay and who it is pretty pretty impressive.
- 59:58Speaker 2: I saw one l Dela Cruz up there two days
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: left on auction one hundred and fifty dollars already. Yea,
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: so it's gonna go. And the picture that you're probably
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: referencing does not do it justice. Like these cards absolutely
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: absolutely pop and you have to also, there's this nostalgia
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: about all the kind of the throwback variation designs. This year.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: They have that kind of nineteen ninety one top stadium
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: club logo and I don't know about you, but like
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: that those were the years for me of like you
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: could go to the store and buy a box of
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: thirty packs. Each pack had like twelve cards, and you
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: could just rip a ton of cards. And even back then,
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Stadium Club just just had this thing about it with
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: the photography things. There was not an insert thing didn't
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: exist back then, right, it was just about pure cards.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: When you're ripping, you there was not searching for value.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: You were putting the set together or you were doing
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: you know what you and I did. These kids take
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: the card, turn it over, read the back, look at
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: the stats, next card, like and you had one hundred
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: of ones to go through. But that that Stadium Club logo,
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: that retro logo, it just brings like so much nostalogen
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: for them to throw that on, like the Beam Team cards.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, that's that's a pretty pretty good one.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: So you're right. I think people are gonna try to
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: put that set together and it's and they're gonna have
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: a heck of a time doing that because those cards
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: are gonna be popular for the individual collector from a
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: rookie perspective and then also from a set collective collective,
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: and it's not And I do expect there's gonna be
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: some deals out there on those because you're right, Beam
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: Team for a few years became like not a big deal,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: like they were so overprinted. Now they were just back inert.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: Yeah they were, And so now I think people are
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: gonna see them just Beam Team and it's a case hit, right,
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: and that's gonna be a different experience for folks. But yeah,
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: absolutely loving what we're seeing the Beam Team this year.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: Yeah. And then some of the other inserts we got.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: We're gonna have the Going Yard die cuts, which have
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: been around for a few years now, and that's actually
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: more limited than it was last year. So last year
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: it was somewhere I would say between like a short
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: print and a insert set. In this year it's a
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: little more short printed, as you've only looking at pulling
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: a Going Yard card out of one and every one
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: hundred and twenty nine hobby packs. They are bringing back
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Special Forces, which is more of a baseball insert. So
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: they did this for basketball too back in the day,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: but I I guess maybe it might have been a
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: basketball insert first, but I associated with baseball. Two. Also,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I'm thinking of like there's a Special Forces David Robinson
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: card that I know I have somewhere, but that's back
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: and that would be more of like your standard insert
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: it's one in every eight Hobby packs. So if you're
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: looking for maybe something to gain a little bit that
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: nostalgia that isn't running quite as hot or as expensive
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: as the Beam Team inserts, Special Forces would be the
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: way to go. And it's going to have a pretty
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: similar high profile insert you know, list of names, so
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: lots of great things to chase here. And then what
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: I'm also looking forward to is traditionally for the past
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: few years when they've been doing Stadium Club, they have
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: the inserts. So if you're new enjoying us, one of
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: our favorite traditions with larger set releases is to go
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: through all of the parallels that might be out there,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: all the color parallels for each card, because one, it's
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: fantastic getting to know all of the different variations. Two
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: it also helps, I think, maybe give you a sense
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: of where we are at in modern card collecting that
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: I'll be honest, a lot of this stuff is pretty
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: overprinted and isn't going to hold its value. Stadium Club
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: is maybe a little bit different story that we're looking
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: at a print run that it's higher this year, but
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: it's just a shade under seventy thousand last year is
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: like fifty five, but even back in twenty twenty one
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: it was just under shade under like forty thousand. Still
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: nothing compared to the millions and millions of Tops Update
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: base cards out there, But the foils are different this year.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: It used to be that they would just the little
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Stadium Club foil stamp would be a different color for red,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: for black, for orange. This year there's a color background
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: to the card as well, so they pop a lot more.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: I love it because I think it's also going to
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: make them a heck of a lot more collectible that
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: these red foil inserts, especially like they're pretty common, like
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: they aren't numbered, that they're in pretty much every pack
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: that you get. And so if you're looking at a
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: red foil insert of Elie de la Cruz for the Reds,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: I was actually looking the Mason win one looks amazing
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: because there's just something that it's Mason wind In, like
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: the road uniform with the blue hat, and I don't
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: know what it is, but you put that Cardinal's road
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: uniform with the blue hat on a red background, it
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: pops for me. I love it. So I'm really looking
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: forward to the color foils actually, including color in the
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: background the way like a normal kind of parallel wood
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: that it's gonna make I think this set from twenty
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: twenty four a little bit more special.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'm just looking like the Ellie that that
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: looks good. He's in the home Reds for sure. Like
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: the Mike Trout color match, like the there's gonna be
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: some really cool cool things here. I think even the
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: black I'm not gonna say that the White Sox color match,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: but maybe the Yankees one is a little bit more
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: exciting here. So I think that's a good call out
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: that that is different, that they've done that this year.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: And the cars just absolutely absolutely stick out and you
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: can't you can't miss him. So that's a that's a
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: huge upgrade if you ask me. No, it's still like
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: the fact we still have like the members only in
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: the photographer's proof in the first State issue, and some
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: of those other kind of dynamics that are still kind
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: of the i'll call it the base card with some
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: other embellishment on it, but the the base color, man,
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: those are those are fun. I haven't bought a box yet.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: I was we got just basically got too busy today,
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Otherwise it might have happened. I'm thinking tomorrow might be
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: making the stop. These are these are looking really really fun.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: You mean by tomorrow, you mean right after this podcast
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: you're running straight to Walmart.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: Well, I mean it's it's I gotta just support the
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: local hobby shop. So we get the hobby box and
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: so I got I have some level of principles there.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: You go, Okay, well you hit on some of them,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: but I'm gonna let you go through the parallel run down.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: We've got fourteen of them for this set, so it's
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: a lot more manageable.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: This is yeah, especially if you're looking at a set
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: where if you want to make a shot at a rainbow,
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: I think this is a great set. You've only got
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: to go out there and get fourteen parallels in addition
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: to the base. So you've got fifteen variations and uh, brew,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: I'll let you let them rip.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: Well before I do, I want to call something out
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: because you talk about the rainbow. I think the other
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: really fun thing with the set that people have to
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: consider is the parallel set. Something's hard to do, but
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: if you look at those like red foils or the
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: black foils, things that are much more common Red foils.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: For example, the print runs about eighty two hundred. You
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: could put together an entire set of the red foils
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: and that would just be an amazing looking set, put
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: in a binder or something like that. And also, I
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: know the resale value is probably as good as you want.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Maybe on a card show it could be just because
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: the individual like Eli de la Cruz, it's gonna be
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: pretty pricey itself. But I think that's just that pipe dream.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Maybe maybe I'll make a run of that over the
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: next year, once the once the thrills die down. But anyway,
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: parallel checklist here. We got the red foils, they are
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: one and two hobby packs mentioned about eighty two hundred
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: on the print run. For those pink foils, they are
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: one of one, one of one, one out of everyone.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: Fat packs. There's about fifty seven hundred of those blackfoil.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Red and black foil used to be kind of every
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: other or similar print runs a little different this year,
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: black foils one and out of every nine hobby packs,
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: about twenty three hundred of those, about a quarter of
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: the red print run. You got your sepias one out
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: of eight blaster packs, about one thousand Sepias out there.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Green foils are out in one ninety nine. Those are
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: one and thirty hobby packs. Gold foil another car that's
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: really gonna jump pack odds of one and sixteen on
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: your hobby there's only about one hundred and seventy of
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: the gold foils, Black and whites about double the rarity
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: here pack odds one forty nine. There's about ninety of
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: those print runs. Then you get the purple foils out
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: of seventy five, you get the blue foils out of fifty,
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: rainbow foils out of twenty five, and then you start
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: to get into the other ones that aren't gonna be
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: the color variations. You get your members only. Those are
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: A one and two hundred and fifty six hobby packs.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Only twenty five of the members only stamps on those
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: photographers proof double the rarity of members only. One in
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: five hundred and twelve hobby packs. There is a print
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: run of about twelve of those twelve or thirteen, depending
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: on how you want to do your math there if
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: you're rounding up or down. First AI issues are out
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: of ten one in five hundred and eighty eight hobby packs,
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: and then you got your gold rainbow foil one of
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: One's and this is what's crazy. One of ones one
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: in two thousand and seventy eight seven two, seven hundred
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: and twenty eight hobby packs. Not that rare for one
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: of One's to pull things out again it goes to
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: the print run on the Stadium Club is still in
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: check and that's just absolutely absolutely tunes to my ears.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and we didn't cover two that there is pro
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: there's chrome variations all the cards in this set too.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: So they killed my favorite of all time, my boy
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Stadium Club Chrome, which ran from twenty twenty to twenty
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: two I believe if I'm correct, they only ran it
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: for three years, but it was its own set on
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: top of Stadium Club, mostly because Stadium Club Chrome gifted
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: me my greatest baby, Shoho Tani of ten Power Zone Auto. That. Yeah,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: I've got some house renovations coming up, and there's going
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: to be some interesting conversations and debates within my house
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: about where that card should lie.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: But well, I'm just saying, if you need somebody to
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: hold on to it, I know it got.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: You. Make it.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Make a good point. The chrome, the Chrome variation again
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: another set you're looking to put together. Those all do
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: have their own parallels, and we'll run through real quick. Here,
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: you got the refractors, there's about twelve hundred of those
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: from a front run one to nine packs at your greens,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: about six hundred and fifty. Then you get your that
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: it jumps down pretty quickly. Your orange refractors out of
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: nine to nine, purple out of seventy five, your pearl
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: whites out of thirty gold minted refractors, it'spect to be
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: about twenty five of those, and then your superfractors. Those
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: are one of one, one out of five and eighty
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: hobby packs. So again those are the full three hundred
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: cards set for the the the chrome variations. And then
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: you do get into a few other design variations image
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: variations that are kind of like thirty five card sets
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: as well, but those aren't necessarily parallels of the base.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: So good call out on the chrome variations, because I
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: mean we were only talked about like ten to fifteen
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: variations and for a top product that's pretty light by
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: about you know, fivefold.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, because yeah, the base foil Ones was fourteen fifteen.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: When you include the base card and then the chrome variations,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: it looks like you end up with seven in addition
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: to the base chrome. So I mean that is kind
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: of nice, like it is a way for me to
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: like pursue a Stadium Club chrome set, but wow, that
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: would take a while to be able to put it
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: all together, and they're not easy exactly to like kind
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: of track down in bulk. So but it is great
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: that like it's kind of embedded in Stadium Club again,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: where like it did feel like last year. I guess
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: I could go back and check the chrome variation to
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: see what it was, but I think it's a little
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: higher in this in this product, partly because the print
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: run in total is a little bit higher. But it's
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: great because like Stadium Club Chrome, honestly, like those sets
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: when they put them out were about this short printed.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: You know, there wasn't too much more than like ten
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: thousand of those sets out there maybe, so like it's
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: kind of cool that they embedded it here that it's
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: not like gone forever, but it certainly does make it
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: harder for me, a lover of the chrome and the
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Stadium Club coming together, to get my hands on it.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: I did run across. I think it's a twenty twenty
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Stadium Club Chrome in ten cent boxes the other day
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: digging through a local card shop and it was just like, well,
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: there's some gold in the like, oh, they're all based cards,
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: but I was like, hey, you get a rookie in that.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: It might be a ten dollars rookie. You have a
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: base chrome card because of how short printed it was.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: And so I don't know if we're quite to that
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: same level with these, but I think that you know,
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: it's it's definitely going to add some fun variety. And
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: to your point, it's like they did kind of combine
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: two products into one, which which still gives you the
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: chance to go after things, but does kind of amp
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: up the print run just a little bit for tops.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean with that too, like I because
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: when they had that, the Stadium Club chrome cards would
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: have a different image on them than the regular Stadium
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Club base, and then the base would have a chrome variation.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: And so I think maybe that can create confusion in
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: the market as well for tops that like as somebody
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: who's tried to sell some of those chrome insert variations
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: from regular stadium club and people confusing it for Stadium
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Club chrome. Even as I'm explaining this, I can tell
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: it's like kind of confusing that, like people don't necessarily
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: know which images which, especially as the years go by,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: So I think from tops the side, it's great for
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: that great kudos, but also a good thing to keep
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: in mind because like the chrome cards pop even more
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: than the regular base cards, so if you do have those,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: certainly kind of keep track of them that they might
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: not always have great value, but they can ebb and
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: flow pretty quickly. Just as an example from the Stadium
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: Club Chrome twenty twenty set, the Baseman Soto from that
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: set is wildly, wildly popular and hard to get your
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: hands on and more expensive than any another base card
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: that you'd expect because he's doing the Soto shuffle in
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: it and it's just a great shot of that. So
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: that is something to keep in mind. And I think
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: also something like if you are getting the baseball cards
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: for one of the first times, or you know, re
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: entering into the it after picking it, putting it down,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: you know, between childhood and you know, being able to
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: get back into it as an adult, this is a
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: great place to start because like Stadium Club cards, I
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: think also hold a lot more value based on the
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: photo and the design of the cards. So if you've
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: got a card with a great photo, historic moment on it,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: something that really stands out and catches your eye as
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: a baseball fan, lots of other people are going to
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: have that same opinion. And so I think there is
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: a simplicity to Stadium Club that I really love, and
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: so it's a great product to enter into, I think
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: from that perspective, And like, if you just love the
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: game from an estec you can't find a better set
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: out there than Stadium Club.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right. We we both absolutely love Stadium Club
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: and there it's just packed full of fun, fun inserts,
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: fun parallels to go after. And at the end of
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: the day, the best part of it is it doesn't
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: have to be about the chase. It's like, this is
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: one of those true products about the beauty the cards,
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: and you know, it's a it's not a rip. It's
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: like when we talk about ripping boxes, ripping packs, going
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: through that kind of implies you're busting through these looking
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: for the gyms. Right, the whole thing is the gym.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: Like when you rip Stadium Club, it's it's sit down,
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: sit in front of the TV, take your time, enjoy
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: enjoy that one. It's not a car rip by any means.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: No, you're here. I think that's a that's a great
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: spot to kind of leave off our discussion here of
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: Stadium Club and wrap it up. So if you are
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: looking for links to any of the things that we've
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: discussed here, you can certainly find them in the show
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: notes here. And like I said, kind of I guess
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: halfway through our discussion, not quite at the top of it.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: But if you're looking for specific examples of like what
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: these cards look like, check out rasball dot com go

- 1:19:00Speaker 1: I guess maybe don't put a rating down if it's
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: less than five stars.
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: If you've blessed this long, just give us the five stars.
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: Yes, we would appreciate it. It just kind of helps

- 1:19:11Speaker 1: more ears. So with that, we are going to wrap
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: it up for this week. Like I said, next week

- 1:19:28Speaker 1: same time, same place next week. Thanks everybody,
