- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Friend, he tells me he's running six miles, he's about to do the marathon.
- 0:03SPEAKER_02: I'm like, whatever.
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: I go home.
- 0:05SPEAKER_02: Um, because in my head, I'm like, if he could run a marathon, I could run a marathon.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: That was the logic that was in my head.
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: So I literally Google how do you enter the New York City marathon?
- 0:14SPEAKER_02: How do you train for the New York City marathon?
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: And so this is like sep maybe August or September of 2019.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: Marathon's in November, so like it's sold out, you can't get in.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: There's no so I'm like, damn.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: But in my head, I was ready to do it in November, right?
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: Hello everyone, welcome back to the People Run podcast.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: Uh excited to be here, close to the happy holidays here.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: Today I have an awesome guest straight out of New York.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, you can see the medals if you're watching this on the YouTube right now or on the video on Spotify.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Uh Patrick, who's uh straight out from the Bronx right here.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: I'm wearing my Yankees hat, but I would have done that anyway.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: Uh I appreciate that.
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: I appreciate it.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: But you know, I still haven't left that from New York.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: So, but uh Patrick, for those listening, is a runner.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: He runs all distances.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're gonna chop it up and talk.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: Excited to have him on, but without further ado, let's uh get right into it.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: But first, welcome, Patrick, man.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: How you doing, man?
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: I'm doing well.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: I appreciate you having me on, Fitz.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, really excited to be speaking with you today.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, same here, man.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: Um, so getting right into it, right?
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: It's Saturday, early morning.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Well, for you, kind of late morning.
- 1:24unknown: Yeah.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: You now your long run in today.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: How'd that go?
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: It was good.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: Um, I'd say it was about 30, 32 degrees today.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: So for running, it was sunny, pretty nice.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: So had you know, a similar top to this, like uh just a windbreaker and a long sleeve underneath, and felt great.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: So got I think 10 miles in, a little bit of a workout, like 3x1k uh in the middle there, and came back a little bagel.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Now we got the coffee going.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: So it was a like a perfect start to a Saturday.
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Bagel, do you do the breakfast after, or or that's kind of your after your breakfast?
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I'll do like a bar, so I'm big on the nutrition.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: So I'll have some sort of like either a Morton bar or just some sort of carb, like a simple carb to have.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: And I'm eating that while I'm like putting my shoes on and getting dressed.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: So nothing, I'm not making breakfast before I go around.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: I'm having a bar, I'm having a couple of sips of whatever, and then um, yeah, I'll go do the run and I'll have like a breakfast breakfast when I get back.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: No, I I kind of do similar, like typically a banana or something.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, kind of also being on nutrition, but not certified, which we'll get into.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: I know you're certified nutrition, so yeah, yeah, it's all about the science for sure.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do my YouTube and all that, and from like post-lift pre-lifting and all that stuff.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: So, like I'm well versed, but I'm not officially certified.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: Point being I like to keep it simple.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: I can't do a big breakfast.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: I want to get out the door quick.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think um I will say, just generally speaking, if if you have like a big long workout, like if if you're training for a marathon, you know, you probably gotta do it a 20 mile or maybe twice, two or three times.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: For that, no, I'm getting up three hours early, yeah, and then I'm doing a lot, I'm probably doing a bagel, banana, bar, using making sure I use it.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: So it depends.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: Today was like not that serious.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: So I tend to do if it's 90 minutes or less, we're doing the quick one like you today.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but if I gotta be out there two hours or more, I gotta eat because otherwise I'm crashing on the run.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: Exactly, exactly.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, okay, cool, cool.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: Well, how'd you get started into uh for those listening?
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: You know, like obviously you got a lot of people that follow, and and you know, we got some people on the podcast, but let's get into uh like how'd you get into running?
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Uh what was the start?
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: You know, was it a school thing?
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: Did you live?
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Collegiate.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: I've so I've told this story a couple of times, and I I like I like telling it every time, and I try to like switch it up a little bit every time.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: So I've been running now for a little over six years.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: So I started running uh at the end of 2019, maybe like September 2019.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Um, and at that time I'd never run more than one mile.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: I would maybe do like one mile on a treadmill when I was in the gym.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: I would lift, you know, I was like, I was I was probably 25 pounds heavier, but I was like swole.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Um and prior to that, I played basketball growing up.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: I played basketball in high school and college.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Um so I went to Lehman College, which is Division III school here on the Bronx.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Um, I played there.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: I was very mid.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Um, like I played my four years.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: I was a I was a starter, you know, I was a captain my senior year, but I was I wasn't going pro or even close to that.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: So just I'm keeping it real with you, right?
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: But so I played basketball and in basketball and in a lot of other sports, you know, you you miss a layup or you're late to practice or whatever.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: You have this typical, all right, everybody we gotta run.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: You gotta, and uh they have to have a better word for it.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: We were running suicides is what they called it, right?
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Or you're running from one end to the court, but so you gotta do a lot.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: So I I I hated running because of that because I, you know, took it to like the only time you gotta do running is either to get conditioned to play basketball or for this punishment.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: So I didn't really like it.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: So anyway, uh, I'm like 29 and I'm going to the gym with one of my friends.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: Um, we both lived in the same building, so we went to the same gym.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: And I think we bump into each other, and I'm asking him, you know, so what are you working on today?
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: And and he asked me, I said, I don't know, I'm doing chest and arms or whatever, you know, I was working on that day, regular dude stuff.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: We just want to have muscles.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: And I ask him, What do you what are you doing today?
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: And he says, I'm probably gonna run like six miles on the treadmill because I'm training for the New York City Marathon.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: And this is like, this is a husky dude, yeah.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Husky dude.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: So like literally, I don't say this to him, but in my head, I'm like, is he is he dead ass?
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Like, like, but but he though that that was my reaction was like in my mind, like six miles on a treadmill because he's running the marathon.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: And at that point, this is a little over six years ago, I'd never met anyone who ran a marathon or who like actually did that, and like the funny thing is we this is on 135th Street, the gym.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: We're less than one block from the marathon course to give you some context, like where he goes from the Bronx and then into Manhattan to Fifth Ave.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: We're literally next to the course.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: So I've seen the one time before I started running, I saw a marathon was because I was walking to the train and I saw people like on the course, but I didn't understand, I didn't even understand how big of a deal it was, straight up.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: I because I didn't know anybody who did it.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: No, so anyway, so my friend he tells me he's running six miles, he's about to do the marathon.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: I'm like, whatever.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: I go home because in my head, I'm like, if he could run a marathon, I could run a marathon.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: That was the the logic that was in my head.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: So I literally Google how do you enter the New York City marathon, how do you train for the New York City marathon?
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: And so this is like maybe August or September of 2019.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: Marathon's in November, so like it's sold out, you can't get in.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: There's no so I'm like, damn.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: But in my head, I was ready to do it in November, right?
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: In November of 2019.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: So anyway, couldn't do that.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Now I'm like, how do I do 2020?
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: So I signed up literally before I even talk to him or tell anybody, anybody about it, I signed up for the 2020 New York City Marathon.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: I do the team for kids fundraiser and all that blah blah blah.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: And then um long story short, obviously COVID happens, the marathon is then canceled, but they don't cancel until like June or July of 2020.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: Because we nobody knew how long COVID was gonna happen for.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no one knew.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: So I'm still I'm still running, I'm still training.
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, it's gonna be fixed and you know resolved by then, and I'm gonna run the marathon.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, but obviously it gets canceled, and then they offer the option to do the virtual marathon, okay, which I'm like, all right, I'm gonna do this because you still got a medal and all that.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: So I'm like, I I didn't I didn't run for nine months now to not do the marathon.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: That's actually the only that's the only reason I started running, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: I was like, yo, this is the only reason I started running.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: And I'm also like, I'm I'm not doing this more than once.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: I'm not about to like train all of 2021 to like run, like, no, once I I was like, yo, once I run this, it's over.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: I'm not running ever again.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: But obviously, that's what a lot of people think.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: So I run the virtual marathon, and then the next year I get the invite to do it again because I had raised, I think at I raised like 160 or 1700.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: The goal was like 2600, 2620.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: I raised like like 60% of that.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: So they invite me back, and I only had to raise now like a thousand left to do 2021.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: So then I do it, I run 2021, the real one.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: Um, and yeah, that that's the story about why I started running and kind of like how that all played out.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: You know, it's funny you say that, right?
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: Like, first off, this already sounds like a hella New York episode because here in Husky, I haven't heard Husky referred to in a while, and then that ass has been a minute.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no, facts, facts, right.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: But like he yo, he's like uh he's a husky dude, he's he's like a solid dude.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: So, like, he don't straight up it in my New York mind, and this is not this is not how I view things today.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: At the time, I thought he does not look like a runner.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: Because that's not what I thought runners look like.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: I thought they looked like you know the very thin East Africans that you see on TV.
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: The marathoners that you see are 130 pounds.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I'm like, this what is he what is he talking about?
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: That was my own, and I didn't know anyone who ran a marathon.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Just that was my my I didn't have that in my circle.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: I have football players, basketball players who all so yeah.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: I grew up in uh, as you know, New York, right?
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: And I was in a school in Brooklyn.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: The school was known for um football, Vikings, South Shore High School, and then when I went to college, I went to uh New York Tech, which didn't really have much sports, uh it was more of a tech hospitality uh university.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: Um, but man, just hearing the husky takes me back because I was a husky dude at one point uh growing up, and I remember back in the days in New York.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, see, there you go.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: I was too, I was too.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: I was too.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: You remember back in the day, and we go on a tangent here, but whatever.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: When you bought clothes and your parents bought clothes, there was like a husky section.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: Uh and that that's what that took me back to.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, I mean you could say stocky, stocky is another word, but like there's different words.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: I don't whatever it was.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: He's uh he's like a husky dude.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: He's a full, yeah, he's a full dude.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: So yes, I was definitely getting the big clothes.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: I was always I don't know, I don't know how tall you are.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: You look kind of tall.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Six, six even.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Six?
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, six foot.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: I'm six six.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Bro, I'm six, I'm six foot six.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: So like and I weigh I weigh like two ten.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: So, but like I'm I'm now I'm pretty thin because I run so much.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: But before I was running, I was 230, 235.
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: A lot of muscle, but I also had a lot of not muscle, I had some you know extra fat lingering around because I just didn't run a lot.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Um and I was drinking and doing you know, just regular living life.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: I wasn't I didn't have like a drinking problem, but I was enjoying myself.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: No, zero cardio, zero cardio.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: I was lifting so much, zero cardio, but I was eating whatever, I was eating whatever I wanted because I'm like, I lift too, and I'm tall, so it's like it distributed well, but yeah, yeah, I didn't see I didn't see like abs and all that until I was running 40 miles, 50 miles a week.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: I didn't see that one ab.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: No, same for me.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: I I stayed husky for quite a while.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: I didn't lose the weight until like I got into lifting.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: Um and yeah, it took me a minute because like you, I was in New York enjoying life, man.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: The the parties, the the clubs, if I'm being honest.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: Uh great.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: I'm also Dominican, so you know, a little bachata merengue here and there, like we're having fun.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Listen, I I understand.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: I I used to be about that life.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: I used to.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: I don't want to be about that life either.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: But uh we had our fun, but man, it's funny.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: New York, same thing for me.
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: I started looking into it the year you ran your virtual.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: Uh to make a long story short, man, it was 2020.
- 13:02SPEAKER_03: Like you, I I hated the marathon when I was in New York because it's like, man, I can't get nowhere.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: Traffic is crazy.
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: Like, I knew nothing in my circle of like this how you train, or I did a marathon.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: It was like, what?
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: Who runs?
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: No, how long?
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: 26 miles, never, right?
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: Honestly, I couldn't even fathom 26 miles some years ago.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: But point being, I'm like, oh man, I want to do the New York marathon for some reason in COVID.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: I started, uh, I think COVID shut down.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: I was in Florida at the time.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: You know, us New Yorkers, we either stay in New York or we go to Florida.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: Ain't no other states exist, apparently.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: Yes, I'm aware.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: I'm aware.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: I got I get recruited, I get recruited to Florida every now and then.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: I'm like, stop, stop, not now.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: I get it.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: Stop nonsense.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: But um, I had told my dad, like, hey, I'm gonna run the New York marathon one day, just randomly.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: I started getting to run in COVID gyms with clothes for the short stint, Florida even closed anything.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, I'm gonna sign up.
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: I started looking, I'm like, wait, there's a lottery.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: What?
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: How uh you know, nine plus one.
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: I'm like, how do I so it took me two years to get in?
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: I ran my first marathon and New York Marathon in 23, but kind of similar story where I was like, I didn't know anything about marathon and New York.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: I just thought you, hey, New York, sign up, start the line, go.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: I had no idea.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: I had no idea.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: I had no idea, but uh man, talking about racing now, you know, since we're talking about you've been racing for quite a while, you've done the six star majors, right?
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: If I'm correct, yeah.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: I did uh six, um, I finished last year, 2024.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: So you finished what was your favorite one, man?
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Um, I mean, I'm gonna say obviously New York is my favorite race, it's the hardest race.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Um, I think it's the hardest course and everything like that, but it's that's my favorite one.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: I could talk forever about that.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Outside of that, I would say Tokyo easily.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: But yes, but because I all of the all of them, I turned them into trips and experiences.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Everything about Tokyo was like trip of a lifetime.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: You know, the race, the race was good too.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: Um, I will say there's definitely a lot of the a lot of the parts of the course that are quiet, and even even where there are people, it's not the same loud, obnoxious cheering that we do in New York.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: It's like a lot more subdued or like, okay, like it's kind of kind of chill.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: So if that's what you need, if that's what you consider like a good race, then you know you maybe wouldn't love that.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: But the whole experience of being in Japan, easily, easily the best.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: Easily the best.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: The other ones are great, it doesn't take anything away, but yeah, Tokyo.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: If I could do another one again, I would love to do Tokyo again.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: But the other I don't plan to do the uh the majors again, other than New York.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't plan to do them again.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, I I could relate to the Tokyo.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: I went to Tokyo and a lot of Japan for two and a half weeks in March this year.
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: And funny enough, it was I landed the day of the marathon this year.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: Oh I didn't do the race because um you know, lotteries is like getting harder and harder every day.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: But I I always wanted to go to Japan and man talking about the trips, I make all my races trips at this point.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: Like I'm I'm already planning next year with the missus.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: Yep, yep, like what we want to fly to, you know, for me is the race, and then we can enjoy after.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: That's how you sneak it in.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: Hey, hey, babe, you know, we're gonna go here.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: No, for sure.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, my wife loves it, she's got to go to all, she went to all of them with me.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: You know, London, Berlin's like she wouldn't have been to, you know, we weren't go planning to go to London, we weren't planning to go to Tokyo, so yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_03: No, man, Japan was awesome.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: The food, the culture, man, the the the stuff you could the onsen.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, the on sent.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: We we didn't do the onsen, we we looked it up.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: So my my wife has probably I don't even know, I should know.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: My wife has a bunch of tattoos, okay, and we looked at all of this and it says like it's really frowned upon.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, she got like you know, all in the arm.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so it was very much like we we can't really do that, so yeah, we didn't as much as I wanted to, yeah.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: Some um what I found there, Tokyo, you'll be okay.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: Obviously, some spots won't let you, but like some of the hotels will let you on to the regardless of tattoo.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: They just have like a certain time frame, like, hey, if you have tattoos, you can once you leave Tokyo, yeah.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're like, uh uh.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: Uh which is crazy, but hey, you know.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's crazy.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's crazy.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: I'll disagree with you there.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: I think we have to realize we are we are Americans, we're Americans, whatever, whether you're Dominican or whatever, we're Americans.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: We're probably right, so we assume we assume that other places have the same rules that we do and the same freedoms that we do.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: But you realize that's not the case, and it doesn't mean that they're crazy, it doesn't mean that they're crazy, it might mean that we're crazy, that we allow a lot of the a lot of the stuff that other places won't allow, you know what I'm saying?
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: So I think it's this is different.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: I think it's different.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: I just say that the crazy from the perspective of like Japan kind of had, and I understand why too.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: Like, I I love the culture of Japan just because of how different in the respect and everything.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: Given that they had so many tattoos with like Yakuza and all that, which is also the reason they don't want it.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: Like, no, it's like the whole culture of tattoos, and now they don't, you know.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: So I get why.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: I guess that's why I say crazy, because they kind of did have it in their country, but fair point, man.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: Um other than the majors, have you done?
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm sure because I'm looking at all these medals here, like what other races have you done that you like as well?
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Um, I guess you're speaking marathons specifically, or just any other races?
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: You can go anything, yeah.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: So uh I think I've uh outside of the majors, I've done two non-majors, which is I did Jersey City Marathon this year, this past April, and I did Los Angeles 2024.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: Okay, so those are two non-majors that I did.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: Um and enjoyed.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: I I'm actually I really enjoy Jersey City.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna do Jersey City again in 2026, and I haven't I haven't announced it yet.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: So you gotta you gotta you got an exclusive.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: Exclusive, yeah, you got an exclusive here.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, I'll be running uh 2026, Jersey City.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, Los Angeles was cool too.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: It's it's all of the races, all races seem to be getting bigger because running is just getting increasingly popular.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: So like Jersey City this year was there's a half marathon and a full at the same time.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: So like the first half of the race is you know a little bit of traffic, and then at the halfway point, it's you know, not as many people in in my group.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: So um I do imagine though, 2026 there's gonna be more people.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because you can't get it.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: You you realize you can't everybody wants I wouldn't say everybody, a lot of people want to do the world majors, but they realize it's hard.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: So you kind of have to settle, settle for these other races that and could end up being an even better experience.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: And I thought Jersey City was an amazing experience, it's not a world major experience, but it's a great experience, you know.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I'll be doing that again um in April.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: It's a fast race, it's very accessible.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: I'm doing it because like I don't have to get a flight and a hotel and spend thousands of dollars to get there, and I can get my race, you know, in the spring.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: And then I do I'm gonna do New York again.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: Um, as long as I can do New York, I'm gonna have the streak of doing New York, um, but in November, but I would like to have one in the spring as well.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: So you often do like a springfall race, uh, I take it, and for what I've gathered yes, and I think 2023 is when I started that like spring fall, spring fall, spring fall.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: Um yeah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: How many times have you done NYC now?
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: Six.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, six.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: From 2020 to 2025 every year.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is that's 21.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: No, that's 22.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: I got the this is 24.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: 20, yeah.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: So six, 20 2020 to 2025, and I'm I I do the nine plus one, so I'm in for 2026.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: I was about to go.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: And then um, yeah, I'm in for 2026, and then I gotta find my nine races next year so I can do 2027.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: I think I have like three, but I gotta get another, you know, another six.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: So what's going back?
- 22:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, as a New Yorker and the love of the race, so far I've done two of the majors so far, and I might be biased forever, even after I do all of them.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: The vibes in New York, man, is insane for the marathon.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: But what keeps you like other than the vibes, what keeps you going back?
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: Because you're doing it back to back five plus now, going to six.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: I don't even, I don't, I don't, I'm not sure if I understand the question.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure if I understand the question.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: What's your favorite restaurant?
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: What's your favorite restaurant?
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: Oh man, I can't give you a favorite restaurant.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: There's so much different.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: What's your favorite restaurant?
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: You got what's your what's your favorite meal?
- 22:31SPEAKER_03: What's your favorite meal?
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: It's gotta be mom's cooking, to be honest with you, but like mom's cooking.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Okay, why do you keep going back to mom's cooking?
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: You'd be like, what kind of question is that?
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Because it's the best.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm saying.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: It's like, what are we talking about?
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: Why are you asking?
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: You know why?
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: Because New York City is the best marathon.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: So why am I keep going back?
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: Because it's the best.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: You've done this race, right?
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: And for others listening to this, right?
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Or if you haven't done New York, here's a loadout.
- 23:00SPEAKER_03: The vibes are amazing.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: 100% with Patrick here.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: The food is insane.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: Hell, even if you I have friends who go to New York, not even to race, just for the vibes of the weekend, which is also fun.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: What I'm getting at though is the race ain't the easiest race.
- 23:13SPEAKER_03: You just said it yourself earlier.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: It's not it's not the easiest race, but let me tell you something.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: I think I think it is the perfect first marathon.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: It's the perfect first marathon because it is actually quite difficult, and it'll show you what a real marathon is.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: I don't think a flat marathon is a great first experience.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: And I'll tell you why.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Say you run Chicago for your first race or whatever flat marathon for your first race, and you do whatever you you know, you make whatever goal.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: I just want to finish, I want to have whatever time.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: That's fine, and you do that.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: And then you say, I want to run another marathon.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: And next one is a hilly marathon.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: You might compare your performance from that flat race, which is your first one.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: You train, you get better, you get faster, you get stronger, you do this hilly marathon, and maybe do worse than you did in your first one because there's night and day difference between flat and like the hilly race.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: So then it's like, man, what why did I do all this training?
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: Why did I go through all this stuff when I didn't have like a better time?
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: When it's like, that's not the point of it.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: There's a difference, even like you have elites, right?
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: You have elites who go and they try to run new, they run New York City every year, every couple of years.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: They're not gonna PR.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: They're trying to race though.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Their goal is like, I'm gonna go against the best, and the best go to New York.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: So even though my my uh elite racer, their PR might be a 205, they know they're gonna go to New York and maybe run a 208 or a 209.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Even on their best day, best scenario, that that's not what it's about.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: But it's about the experience.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: And for me, it's like, okay, can I run New York better than I ran New York last year?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Not necessarily comparing New York to my PR, you know, because that's still it's just night and day difference.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: But the the actual running experience, I think, yeah, having like these hilly and maybe challenging courses is really what I think marathoning is about, is can you get through these challenges?
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: And that's just way different having flat versus hilly and all of that stuff.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: But the the the people on the course, the celebration, the all that makes up for it.
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: All of that makes up for it, you know.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: No, I I could tell you for sure when I did New York, I wouldn't have finished without the crowd because it was my first.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: I did suffer after mile 15.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: Um, but man, when people shout in your name just because you got a bib on, or they pick on the one hat you wearing, and you just I've said it a couple times on this, I'll say it to anyone who wants to do New York.
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: I felt like an Olympian, as close as you can get to without being an actual Olympian, because people call you out like, come on, man, they'll like get on course with you real quick, which is not supposed to, but whatever, it's New York.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: It's New York, it's New York, it's different, it's different, man.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: It's definitely um I've had people share all the majors and they almost always fall back to New York.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: The European fall to like London because it's apparently a similar vibe.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: I thought it's the same as New York, low bias there, but the crowd is big.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: I'd say the crowd is big.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, also even the the not audience, the like field size is similar too.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: So like it's the last two, three years, they keep breaking the world record.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: London and New York.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: It's like London did 54,000, and New York comes back, does 55, then London does 56, and now New York is like, I watch this, and I think we did 59, almost 60,000 this year.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: So London is like, yo, are we really about to have because we have 59 people finish 59,000 finish.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so that means yo, we had we probably had a good almost 70,000 start, which is a which is a mess.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Like they got it, there has to be a limit.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: There has to be a mess.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: So, but um, yeah, no, New York is there's there's nothing like it.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: There's nothing like it.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: And yeah, you probably you probably won't PR.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: You can, you can, but you probably won't, but that's not what it's about.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: What's been uh your best race?
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: Like of all the marathons you raced where you felt vibes and like it went perfect.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Like, what was that like?
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: What race was it?
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: It was Jersey City uh marathon this year, so in April, and I ran a 312, 312.59.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: So that was a P that was a PR by 12 minutes prior to that was 324, and the 324 was from Chicago 2024, so like six months before.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so in six months we break 12 get 12 minutes off, and Chicago is a flat course as well.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: But um everything went well.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: The one thing uh my goal was actually sub 310, and I was running with the 310 pacer, the 310 pack up until about mile 21.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, about mile 21.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: So my hamstrings are it's not even an injury, it's just a weakness of mine.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: Um, I and I need to do more strength training.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: That's usually kind of what I can feel tighten up, and then I have to, I kind of have to limp a little bit to get it to go away, but then I slow down.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: So anyway, that the the race went as perfect as it possibly could, and I got a 312, 312.59, just so just under 313.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: I was very happy with that.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: Um, but like, yeah, the only difference is like if I would have had stronger hamstrings, you know, I think I would have been under 310.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: But otherwise, the the weather was perfect.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: I think the course was great.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: Um and the the way that they have it is it's like a two, it's a two-loop course.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: As I mentioned, there's a half marathon and a full.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: But the the second loop is not identical.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Imagine it's the best way to describe it is like if you go like clockwise for the first one, you go counterclockwise for the second one, for the second loop.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: So you're not experiencing it the same way, you're looking now looking the opposite way.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: So I really enjoyed that.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, that was my best race.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: Um, that was my best marathon, and it's crazy to say because it was my fastest one.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: It literally felt the easiest.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: That was, you know, that felt my easiest race, even though it was my my fastest race, where some of these races, you know, like I did New York, I did 329 in New York this this past November.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: And that was that was the second half.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: I was like, yo, can we finish?
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Like somebody pick me up.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Like I was I was ready to, you know, but the 312 was easy.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: So I think it just shows you um your preparation and all that.
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: And sometimes it comes down to how you feel on the day.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: But yeah, Jersey Jersey City was great.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: And I've had other I've had other great races that weren't marathons.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Like now I love 5k and 10k.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to get more into but prior to this.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: I really dislike 10k.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: I felt like it's a weird distance because like you can't you have to run fast, but it's not really that short of a race.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: So I don't really know, I didn't really know what pace to to to do.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, but now trying to do a lot more of the quote unquote shorter races, just less less than less than the big ones, yeah.
- 30:42SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: It's funny you say that like 10k is something I've gotten recently into.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: I like 10k, 5k, no.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: But it is my uh weakness and something I'm working on now.
- 30:56SPEAKER_03: So it's it's funny to hear that, you know, like I can endurance all day.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: The speed work, oh boy, but uh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: You know, 10k is tough.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: You find it tough?
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: I find it, I find it tough because so it's in it's in a weird, awkward spot, right?
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Because like you imagine you have your marathon time, and you probably know, oh, this is my marathon time, this is what I could go and do for 26 miles, right?
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then right, that's like whatever, whatever it is.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Your 5k time, your 5k pace is probably significantly faster than your marathon pace, right?
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: Because it's you're doing that for let's just say 20 something, you know, 20-ish minutes for me in like 19 minutes and change, right?
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: So it's very fast, but I know that it's gonna be over in 19 minutes and change.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: So oh, even though I'm uncomfortable, like from minute 12, um like I'm hurting, but it's I actually I kind of enjoy that because it is it's like a different kind of adrenaline.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: Like I know that I'm exerting, I'm I'm exerting myself, I'm pushing myself, but it's gonna be over soon.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: We got one mile left to go and we good.
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: 10k is different because it's like I know I'm supposed to be kind of close to that 5k, it's way closer to 5k than it is to marathon, right?
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: But you could get yourself like into that no man's land where you're on mile four and you're like, yo, I ran too fast now.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Now what do I do?
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: I still got I still got two miles, I can't go marathon pace because that's that's crazy, right?
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: So it's like a weird, I haven't figured that out.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: Uh I haven't figured out what it's supposed to be.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: So my yeah, my um 10k pace, it is in between, but it's actually now I think it's like right between.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: Um it's right between my 5k and my marathon pace.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: Or I think it should be closer to the 5k.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: It really should be a lot closer to the 5k.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it's supposed to be like typically um, do you do a lot of halves by any chance?
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: I do, yes.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: I probably do two or three halves uh in a year, and my my 10k historically has been like the same as my half pace, which it doesn't really make sense.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: That's why I thought so.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: That's why I'm like, it's weird.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: Like I even my 10 mile, like I do the Bronx 10 mile and the 10 mile, I'll do it.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: I did it faster than my 10k pace.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: But the 10 so this only this past uh October, I think it was October, I did um a 10k.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: Oh no, it was November.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: It was November.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: I did a 10K uh and I finally beat my half marathon pace, which now I'm like I know that if I were to go do a half marathon, I'd probably beep the 10k pace, which is good, which is good.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we got yeah, yeah.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: I saw you ran, I think it's right around this time you was describing that race.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: You ran five races in 10 days, like soon after like a marathon.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, it was about a month after.
- 34:09SPEAKER_02: It was about a month after, so not soon after, but yeah, about about a month after.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: What made you do that?
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: I think I saw you said you felt like you had more on the table.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: Um what was unfinished?
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I I know uh I want to essentially like a little chuckle there.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: I think there's actually a lot of there's a lot of logic and reason behind this.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: Um so during your marathon block, right?
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: So my marathon block is typically 16 weeks.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: You're never really fresh.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: So like if I want to do a race, if I want to do a 5K week nine of my marathon block, I probably did 65 miles that week.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: And like it's not gonna be my best 5k because I've ran so many miles that week, right?
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: Whereas over the last couple of years, right?
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: I run New York City first week of November, I'll take off a week like of no running at all, and then I'll pick up like running 30% of like what I was running in my peak.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: So like I'm running now, I'm running 25, 30 miles a week or whatever the case is, compared to like 70 in my peak.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: So because now I've recovered from the marathon, I'm fresh, I'm not beat up from doing all of these workouts and all these long runs, but I still have a lot of that like lingering fitness that I built in that 16-week block.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: So it's like, okay, let me go see what I could do in a 5K now that I only ran 20 miles this week.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: I go do that PR.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: Like it uh to me, it feels like almost almost guaranteed because like I'm so now I'm fresh, it's like a month removed.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: So that was the same thing.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: And with the as I was talking about, I love the 5K and getting into 10K now is I could run a 5K today.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: If there was another 5K coming up in three, four days, I feel I could go sign that up and I could try.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't say I would go and like PR again, but I could try because in the couple of days I could recover from doing that three mile.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: It was a hard effort, but it was only like three miles.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's gonna be like yeah, correct.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: So as I see the calendar, there's like these different races that are lined up in my head.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I know I could I I could PR and I could this is a so I got my PR in the 5K.
- 36:26SPEAKER_02: Um, and then I got my PR in the one mile and in the 10K.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: And there was one other 5K um that I did the first actually, the first race of the five, it was um like a little bit hilly of a 5k.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: I didn't think I was gonna PR there and I didn't.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Um that was fine, but then yeah, followed that up to 10k.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: Um, and I did that was a 639 pace.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: Um that beat my 10k PR by 58 seconds, I think, from earlier this year at the Queens 10K.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: So like very happy with that.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: And the one mile was by two seconds technically.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: Um, the 5k then was by 13.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: So uh all of it was like I said, it was it wasn't this crazy, oh, he's running all these races.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: I know people who will do like three marathons in a week, or like I'm gonna do seven marathons in seven days.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: That's that's that's wild.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm not doing that.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: I'm not doing that, but like you could look at my those five races in in 10 days.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: I probably those probably the only runs I did in the 10 days.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: I wasn't doing anything else outside.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: I was like, I'm chilling, I'm going back, and literally I'm going to the next race feeling great.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Like today we're gonna have a great day.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: And I did.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: So that's how it worked.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: I was curious, and you explained that well, like how are you recovering from the marathons and then this race and then the next race?
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: And it's just like, okay, so the mod is kind of low, and you're just using the fitness that you can do.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, miles are super low, super low.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: What's your training like?
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, everyone has a different approach, man.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: You go online nowadays, there's like 30 million ways to train nowadays.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: What's your style of training for you know, just in general, year-round?
- 38:14SPEAKER_03: Obviously, you do marathons, you do 5Ks, 10ks, you know, halves.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: You basically run it year-round.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: Um, so I would say my running is very much revolves around my marathon training blocks.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: And because I have been doing a spring and a fall marathon in like back-to-back years, that means there's like 16 weeks that I have to train for that spring race, and then 16 weeks I have to train for that fall race.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: That looks relatively the same.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: We're gonna build up to you know a peak of 65, 70 miles a week in that training block.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Um, and then go do the race.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: But outside of that, so that's 32 weeks, right?
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: 16, 16.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: You got another 20 weeks left in the year.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: In that time, I'm kind of chilling.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Like I'm I'm running, but like I'm running almost just for exercise.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: I don't really go, I don't really go to the gym.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: I have a little garage gym that I put together, but like I'm not going and lifting for two hours.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: So if I want to just have a little bit of fitness, like, okay, I'll I'll do five miles five times a week.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Four, four, maybe four times a week, I'll do like five miles and I'll go do like a little long-ish run, eight miles or ten miles or something like that.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: So that'll work out to in those times where I'm not training, I'm not in a training block, I'm maybe doing 25 to 30 miles a week.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: And that's just to maintain.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: And if I do a some speed session, I'm not doing 20 by 400 meters.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: I'm I maybe like doing uh, all right, let me do six by eight hundred meters, a kind of hard effort, hard-ish effort, but I'm not trying to I'm not trying to achieve anything.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: It it's like yeah, yeah, I'm I'm really just trying to get somewhat of a I'm trying to work out.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to get my heart rate up.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to feel like I did something hard today, but I'm not really measuring and all that stuff.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: So that's that's kind of like that.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: It kind of sounds like that.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: No, I'll definitely put paces, I'll put paces in the watch, but I'll put like a pace where it's like I know that I can do this, and I know that this is a pace that is kind of difficult, the difficulty that I want.
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: So, like today, right?
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: I did um it was I did 10 miles, it was five miles easy, then um three by one K.
- 40:48SPEAKER_02: And the 1Ks I put in at around between 5k and 10k pace.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: So these are paces I know that I can I can run a race in a 5k and I can do 5k straight.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: I'm only doing it for 1k.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: So it's like it's hard, but this is not some I can't hit the pace.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: I'm breathing hard after and all that, and it's like, okay, I felt like I did something today, but yeah, not it, not a ton of science, just how much how much work, how much like exertion or effort do I want to feel?
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: And it depends on what I have going on.
- 41:23SPEAKER_03: No, it sounds like very smart intuitive, nonetheless.
- 41:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, most runners I think you know a lot, right?
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: Like they kind of go too hard.
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: It's kind of a default.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: What what's the sexy speed workout, you know, and it's like you're doing a 1k rep and it's like, okay, I'm dying after this 1k rep, and then the next one I'm dying again.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: Oh no, yeah.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: I mean, if that's what people want, that's that's fine.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: I think every everybody got a different approach.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Everybody, whatever is that whatever their goal is, but I think for my goals, usually my yeah, my plan is usually appropriate for what the goal is.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: What would you attribute like your success to then?
- 42:03SPEAKER_03: Like, is it the speed work, just intuitive running, you know, 16 weeks hard and then relaxing and enjoying life?
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: Um I think it's uh good, just a good balance.
- 42:16SPEAKER_02: And I think I do what is I do the level of work that's appropriate for the goal.
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: I think as generally so if anybody like because you said your success, right?
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: I tried my goal was a 310 in Jersey City, and I didn't hit that goal.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: I did 312.59.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: That was still successful because it was still the best marathon I ever had.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: So I can't sit here and say, like, oh, I had a bad race, but it wasn't, I didn't hit the goal, and that's fine.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: But I think like the 16 weeks were I I succeeded, I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish in the 16 weeks.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: So I don't feel like when I get to race day, I don't feel like this is crazy for me to go and attempt to do this.
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: And like there's gonna be a time where I go and I'm, you know, gonna attempt to do a sub three.
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: And the only way I'm gonna do that is if I get to the line and I feel like I did what was required for me to possibly achieve this sub three today, you know.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: So like it it running a lot of it is science.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: Hate to say it, a lot of it is like people can talk about feel all they want, but a lot of it is science.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: There's a certain number of miles, there's a certain number of paces that you have to do at a specific, you know, mileage that will generally equate to a race result.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: So I typically try to look at that as opposed to just hyping myself up and thinking I can do this, I can do this.
- 43:45SPEAKER_02: No matter what I tell myself, no matter what I tell myself, I wasn't about to run a sub three in New York.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: It don't matter what kind of faith you know I had or determination, it wasn't it wasn't gonna happen because I the the the work that I put in did not reflect that.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: So that's that's how it feels.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: Like, can I I don't I don't so much focus on the goal.
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: It's like I know that I need to hit this mileage in these weeks.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: And if I can do that, then I'm good.
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: But that's harder than the race.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: That's harder than the race.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: Like getting 70, like doing 70 mile weeks is harder than a race.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: And it's not even so much the effort that goes into it, but it's like for a 70 mile week, I have to run a couple doubles throughout the week.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: There's probably like two days where I'm running maybe eight miles in the morning and another six in the evening so that I can make that 70 miles that week.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: So that's what's like that's the hard part.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: The hard part is like, how do you do all of the how do you actually do all the work while having a job, while having a wife, while having a baby, while having dogs, while having whatever?
- 44:53SPEAKER_02: And so that's the hard part.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: That's the hard part.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: So we'll see what the next block is.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: And the it's like I'll have the goal, but I know it's so much.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: I need to do the work to get there.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: And I hope that I'm able to do the work.
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: No, 100%, man.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: I couldn't agree more.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: I think uh my most recent race, like I had success because I was able to kind of forget a little bit of like, hey, here's the tango, tango, just put in the work and like follow the process, if you will.
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: Like just today, we want to go out there.
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: This is how long we're running and worry about today.
- 45:28SPEAKER_03: Worry about the time later when the day hits it.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, just putting that work in.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: It's weeks and months.
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: It's like you want to have a tell yourself, I want to have a good week.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: I want to go, I want to have a good week.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: Did you have a good week?
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: Whatever, whatever that means to you.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: Did you hit your 30 miles?
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: Did you hit your 60 miles?
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: Did you have a good week?
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: Okay, great.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: Now have another good week.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: And so you can say, Did you have a good month?
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: Did you have a good month?
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, hopefully you had a good month.
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: You can have a because you can have a bad day.
- 45:53SPEAKER_02: That's perfectly fine.
- 45:54SPEAKER_02: Some days I can't do it, but like you can have a bad day and still have a good week.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: You can have a bad week, still have a good month.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: So that's that's what it's about.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: How do uh, you know, since you're a certified nutrition coach, how does the food come into play?
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: You know, we talk in science now.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: Like, do you track uh or you just go off like I need to eat and feel?
- 46:14SPEAKER_02: Um, so food like regular meals, I'm not tracking calories, I'm not tracking like grams of protein, because like it's just I I know myself, uh, my flate, my weight doesn't fluctuate that much.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: My need and my like appetite fluctuates a lot depending on what's going on.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: When I'm in the 65, 70 mile week, yo, this is not enough food in the Bronx.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: Like it's literally not enough food in existence.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: It's literally the yo, they gotta bring in the truck, they gotta bring in the the the shit.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: Just bring in the nude, bring in the bags of rice.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: We need the bags of rice.
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: So um it's I would say it's very much by feel, but I over like I overdo it like uh intentionally.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: I I snack kind of all day.
- 47:10SPEAKER_02: So I have things around that feel like what I need.
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: So prior to me running, it's carbs, some type of I have bars, granola bars, I'll have oatmeal, bagels, whatever the case is.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: It's not all of these, like it's not all supplements.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: Like people who just do so, you don't need that.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: You can actually get most of what you need from real food.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: Um, so like I'll eat a lot and I'll try to primarily have rice, pastas, and all that stuff.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Um, and then after like a hard effort is when I'll try to have some sort of protein, but even I'm not measuring like how many grams of chicken breast it is, or whatever the case is like protein is enough, and I'm a big guy, so naturally I need to have a lot of food.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: So like I feel satisfied, okay, we're good.
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: And then where like uh the sports nutrition stuff that where that comes into play is really for the like particulars of like pre-run or pre-workout, pre-race and like recovery stuff.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: That's where I get kind of nerdy and nerdy with it.
- 48:13SPEAKER_02: I don't know how much how much content you consume or like how much science you listen to, but there's a lot of science into like your carbohydrate intake and like how that can influence like this way.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: I read the studies and probably too much.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: So I like nerd out all stuff of that.
- 48:32SPEAKER_02: So and and as that's me.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: Like, I watch so much YouTube about like elites who are running races and all that and what their goals are for how much they're consuming.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: You know, some of these pros are trying to take in 100, yeah, 130 grams per hour per hour, right?
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: So, and this is this is someone who, if they're doing, you know, two-hour and change race, Joe Clecker, I think ran like a 208 or a 209 in New York.
- 49:00SPEAKER_02: He was trying to do 175 grams per hour.
- 49:03SPEAKER_03: That's insane.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, is it though?
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: Is it it's like it sounds it sounds insane, right?
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: But when you realize it's like it's that that is to get you to the potential maximum level of performance, yeah.
- 49:21SPEAKER_02: So it's it's it's very much like if someone were to tell you, all right, yo, how much gas do I need to get to like from New York to wherever?
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: And they tell you, yo, yeah, Canada's 50 gallons and they four dollars a gallon.
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: So you're like, what?
- 49:41SPEAKER_02: That's yo, you want to drive to Canada, that's what it takes.
- 49:45SPEAKER_02: That's all it is.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: Like, what do you want?
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: Like, what's crazy about that?
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: That's how like your body burns X amount per hour, so you need to put in X amount per hour.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: That's what it is.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: When somebody else is like, yo, that's crazy.
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: Now I'm gonna get a car.
- 49:59SPEAKER_02: No, see this.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: Now you start thinking about getting a car that you is better on gas or getting an electric car.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: No, no, bro.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: It is what it is.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: So for me, it's I I find it like now it's an equation, like, oh, okay, I'm trying to do 100, 120 grams per hour.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: How can I get how can I get there?
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Because like a Morton gel is like 25 grams of carbs.
- 50:22SPEAKER_02: There's the Morton 160 gel that's 40 grams of carbs.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: And then science and sport, same thing.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: They have like the regular one, it's 25 grams.
- 50:30SPEAKER_02: They have the beta fuel that's 40.
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: So now I'm doing okay.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: If I do a gel every 20 minutes, 40, 40, and then a 25, that'll get me to 105.
- 50:39SPEAKER_02: So I'm doing a lot of that.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: Also, like, how much do I want to take in?
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: What am I drinking?
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: Like, am I drinking Gatorade on the course?
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: Am I drinking something else?
- 50:49SPEAKER_02: So, um, a lot of it is fun, experiential, and then seeing what gets me to the best performance and feeling good at the end.
- 50:57SPEAKER_02: Because I think you'll have a lot of people who maybe are fast and faster than me and all that stuff, and we're like, I ran 12 miles with no water and no gels.
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: And it's like, this is not a this is not a who can drink the least contest.
- 51:11SPEAKER_02: This is not a who can eat the least gels.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: That's not what it is at all.
- 51:15SPEAKER_02: It's like I probably feel better after my run the next day because I wasn't going in like debt basically with my body.
- 51:23SPEAKER_02: I wasn't going into like a caloric deficit into like a car, you know, glycogen deficit.
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: Because I was taking it in as I was as I was performing.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: Whereas like finishing on empty, I'm not finishing on empty.
- 51:35SPEAKER_02: That's you know a little bit of a difference.
- 51:37SPEAKER_02: So um I I did the certification because one, I also do a lot of um content for the feed, which is like the number one marketplace for sports nutrition and sports tools and all that so out here.
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: So like you it's to one to better inform and give me actual credibility to the things that I'm that I'm talking about, but then for my own performance as well, it's like I'm trying, I'm trying new gels, I'm trying new products all the time because like while Morton might be good, science and sport might be good, that doesn't mean that there's can't be something better, right?
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: So it's like I'm constantly exploring and seeing what else is what tastes better, what feels better, maybe what's cheaper too, because there's a lot of that that goes into play.
- 52:20SPEAKER_02: But just being a nerd in the running space, I get to experience and just try out different things.
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: I joke about this with my friends.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: Um, there's two types of runners, in my opinion, right?
- 52:30SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna use some elites to compare this.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: There's the Kelvin Kiptums, and then there's the Elliot Kachogis, right?
- 52:38SPEAKER_03: If you I'm sure you've seen this because it sounds like we're both into the running space and like they're nerding out our stuff.
- 52:48SPEAKER_03: I'm out the door, I'm going this pace and going all out effort, all heart.
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: Then you got the Kachogis, how much gel I need, how much carbs I need, the very analytical, like kind of engineer.
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: Like, if you look even at our American runners, Connor Mance versus like say a Clayton Young.
- 53:04SPEAKER_03: Like Clayton's like, my heart temperature is this, my heart is this.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: Doing a lot, yo, doing a lot, doing a lot, bro.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: Clayton, I love Clayton.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Doing a lot, bro.
- 53:15SPEAKER_02: That's facts.
- 53:16SPEAKER_02: Connor's like, yo, yo, I don't care, bro.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: Connor's like, yo, give me whatever pair of Air Force Ones, I'm about to go run a 12 bro.
- 53:23SPEAKER_02: I'm good.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: Facts, facts.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: Mikey should have him in the Air Force Ones, man.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: The fact that I saw this man running Vomeros with 18s are heavy as hell and doing 20 miles, five something pace, and then narrowing down to his marathon pace for the last four, five, six, it is insane to me.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: And then you have other runners who are like, I need this plate this way and this clothes this way.
- 53:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:48SPEAKER_02: Uh listen, there's a reason why they're the elites and we are mortals, you know, so it's wild.
- 53:55SPEAKER_03: No, man, it it's fun, man.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: I find it fun.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, there's a good balance in between both, but I definitely like sometimes nerd out as well.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: And then my last training block, I did the opposite.
- 54:06SPEAKER_03: Like, let me just run.
- 54:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I think it's it's all testing out.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: Like um, so there's one race uh called Project 13.1.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: Are you familiar?
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: So I feel like I'm saying it, but maybe.
- 54:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, so it's it's in um March up here, but it's in Rockland.
- 54:25SPEAKER_03: Um, so like another one, yeah.
- 54:27SPEAKER_02: Just past like this maybe an hour from Manhattan, like 30 minutes from me in the Bronx.
- 54:32SPEAKER_02: There's a lake, Rockland in Rockland Lake State Park, um, that's like just under three miles, like 2.9 miles, so just under 5k.
- 54:40SPEAKER_02: They do a half marathon there, which is basically a time trial.
- 54:44SPEAKER_02: So the slowest pace group that they have is one hour 30 minutes.
- 54:50SPEAKER_02: And then they have people in the front who I think are like 64, 65 minutes, so 104, 105.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: Um, and this is like a time trial race.
- 55:00SPEAKER_02: So it's flat, you're just doing loops with your pacer to try to hit your time, and it's like a certified course, it's a real course.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:08SPEAKER_02: I did this race uh in March of this year.
- 55:11SPEAKER_02: I ran 128.
- 55:12SPEAKER_02: I went with the 130 pacer, I ran 128.
- 55:15SPEAKER_02: But the great experience about this race, which most races don't have, is they allow you to make your own bottle station.
- 55:24SPEAKER_02: So they have a table out of one portion of the course because you're passing the table four times in the race because you're doing four loops.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: So instead of you know having the cup of Gatorade or a cup of water, you could put whatever, you know.
- 55:36SPEAKER_02: And the elites, right, they are very particular.
- 55:38SPEAKER_02: One person wants their Morton, you know, drink mix, somebody else wants a carb drink or electrolyte.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: So I tweaked around with the stuff that I wanted to have because I can have my bottle, I could hold on to the bottle as much as I want.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: Um, and that's I think helped me to get to the PR, which is 128.48.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: I think I'll be running that race again um in March.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: So in like four months, uh three months from now.
- 56:02SPEAKER_02: And um, yeah, with that, we're gonna try to maybe get the 126, maybe 125.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: But um it again, it it sets you up and it allows you to experience like if I were if I were running New York and I knew I could have my own bottle of whatever I wanted every 5k, I would I wouldn't say I'd have a better race, but I would treat my fueling differently because maybe I don't need to have as many gels if I have like you know my carb drinking.
- 56:27SPEAKER_03: You give bottles with carbs, yeah.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: I would probably do more bottles with carbs.
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, that is a a fun experience, and it also lets you run with uh people who are way faster than you.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: So it's that I think helps they drag you along and you end up running faster too.
- 56:44SPEAKER_02: So yeah, that's uh something I'm looking forward to again.
- 56:47SPEAKER_03: That's gonna be fun, man.
- 56:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think a year or two ago, funny enough, that friend of mine I mentioned that knows Julia Ali, he kind of sent me a link to it, and I was like, uh, I don't know, I got something planned for the spring, and I've heard great things.
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: Once you said Rockland, I was like, oh, I know the one.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes.
- 57:03SPEAKER_02: So that's the half.
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: They have a full a week after that, too.
- 57:08SPEAKER_02: And that's for like when I tell you it's there's people who are trying to for the full, it's people who are trying to qualify for the Olympic trials.
- 57:15SPEAKER_04: Got it.
- 57:15SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 57:16SPEAKER_02: A bunch of people trying to run sub two.
- 57:18SPEAKER_02: I think the men now is 216.
- 57:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and women, women's time is 237.
- 57:24SPEAKER_02: So you'll have a lot of people doing that.
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: Tomorrow, um, there's a similar thing.
- 57:30SPEAKER_02: Marathon, yeah, marathon project is the same, same setup, same thing.
- 57:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:35SPEAKER_03: People trying to OTQ.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: You know, talking about running with people, you know, you run a lot of NYC clubs and uh sharing the NYC culture and clubs out there in NYC.
- 57:44SPEAKER_03: You share it on your Instagram.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: Like, um, what's some of the the I guess experience for those not from New York?
- 57:52SPEAKER_03: Like, what are you seeing out there that's common in the NYC clubs?
- 57:54SPEAKER_03: What's the culture like, you know, for those non-New Yorkers out there that you see from the NYC clubs?
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: Um for someone not in New York, and I don't I would I don't even say this as like oh New York is like the best place ever kind of thing, but New York, New York is a different experience.
- 58:11SPEAKER_02: Like New York is very condensed, it's very tight.
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: And like even if someone lives in Brooklyn, someone lives in Manhattan, it's like you might see them pretty frequently because like we're very much in the same circles in the same spots.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: So with going around to different run clubs, it's been a cool experience.
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: You'll see there's I think most of them are way more similar than they probably want to admit or think.
- 58:37SPEAKER_02: Um, a lot of them are well, generally speaking, you don't have like a bunch of elites who are running.
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: Um, it's people who are socially getting together.
- 58:47SPEAKER_02: And with any group, you're gonna have, you know, a breakdown.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: There's some people in the front who are faster, some a bunch, most people are in the middle, and you got some people who are in the back who are, you know, maybe first-time runners who are social runners, not trying to race, not even thinking about a marathon or even a 5k.
- 59:04SPEAKER_02: It's like, no, I'm gonna do this Wednesday night 5K in Central Park with my friends.
- 59:10SPEAKER_02: I'm not running at all outside of this, but I love to do this.
- 59:15SPEAKER_02: So um, we have a lot of groups.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: I think I think officially there's like over 400 run clubs that are registered with New York Roadrunners.
- 59:26SPEAKER_02: Officially.
- 59:28SPEAKER_02: There is a countless number of unregistered clubs too, which doesn't make them any less of a club, right?
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: They have a leader, they have you know frequent meetups, they have probably rules and regulations, even a membership, but just not registered like with New York Roadrunners.
- 59:48SPEAKER_02: And they come up all the time, they they make new clubs all the time.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: And I think a lot of it, most of it, is people who are maybe seeing uh a need in their own community.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: That's that's something that I've heard from a lot of the leaders, is you know, even like uh Miguel from Milestyle, right?
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_02: I think they've now been around for six years, going on seven years.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: And he said he started milestyle because he was living in the Bronx, and he said there were no run clubs.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_02: So I wanted to start a run club.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_02: Not knowing that Boogie Down, Bronx runners had already started, he was just unaware of it, right?
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: A lot of it is a lack of awareness that something else is going on, which is an issue, right?
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I think now with the prevalence of social media, Instagram, TikTok, even I'm not on TikTok, but I know TikTok does you know numbers with the run club stuff.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_02: But um, people realize, like in my community, and your community can mean anything, right?
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: It doesn't necessarily mean Brooklyn.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_02: Brooklyn is such a huge place, it could mean this one small nook and Bushwick or whatever.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_02: Sheep's Head Bay.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_02: Like I live in Sheep's Head Bay, we don't have a run club in Sheep's Head Bay, so I'm gonna make Sheep's Head Bay runners, and now it serves your small local community for people within that 20-block radius or whatever the case is.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_02: That now you can meet up, you can run, and that usually turns into other things too.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_02: You know, you you have like a day where y'all just go out and get a beer or get some pizza and do all that stuff.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_02: So I do see that humans, adults especially are like increasingly social and craving social events that are not generally fueled by alcohol.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_02: Like I drink, I I have me, I'm gonna have me a couple of beers today.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: So this is not an anti-alcohol like speech or anything like that.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: But you know, in like in our 20s, I think a lot of the stuff was fueled by alcoholic events, which was uh it served its purpose at the time, but like now people got jobs, people got families, so it's like I can't link up, I can't link up with y'all to to do shots.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_02: I can't I just can't do that.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm gonna say that thanks, I'm I'm good.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm not doing that.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_02: But you wanna you wanna link up to go run three miles?
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: I'm down.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_02: You can you can even tell me, yo, we're gonna link up and do hot yoga, sign me up.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_02: Like whatever, whatever it is, link up, do hot yoga.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: We could link up and do a Peloton class.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_02: Like, people are you know increasingly looking for these kinds of like events where you you find people who are like-minded, who have you know similar hobbies and passions and all that.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_02: So I think I think that is the general genesis to a lot of these run clubs is just wanting to make something, make make an event, make a recurring meeting for a lot of people.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_02: Um, and then some others, you know, people have there's as we are humans, some people will have ulterior motives, some people want to get free gear and free, you know, whatever and all that, which is also fine too, you know.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I make content, most of it is not for free.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_02: But if that's your intent to like start the club to get bibs to races and all that, I just think like you'll find that it may not be as sustainable if because that I think that can't be the end goal.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_02: That can't be the end goal because then it's like if you end up not getting that, if you end up not getting the shoe brand, you know, if you're not getting the brand, if you're not getting the bibs, it's like well, you are you gonna be less motivated to do that?
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, like that's that's what I think about that.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_03: No, for sure.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, with so many clubs, I agree, like you gotta have that community and people like you know, growing, learning, hanging out, whatever, whatever the vibe is of culture first.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_03: What would you say is uh like as far as NYC, one of the misunderstandings of running in New York City, you know, as a New Yorker myself and people looking outside of it, like you got big city corners everywhere, blocks, some blocks, you know, lights.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_03: Stop go stop.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_03: Um just to name one, but like what are some of the misunderstandings about NYC run culture?
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, New Yorkers will find a way.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_02: That's what I was saying.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_02: New Yorkers will find a way against for someone who is not from the city, who's somewhere who like not only we have so many people, we have so many cars, taxis, Ubers, all that stuff.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_02: You know, if you're running in the streets, you're dodging a lot.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_02: You're jumping curbs and all that, but like New Yorkers will find a way.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_02: Even me, like, I know I have a route, and I live in the Bronx, but I have a route that I know this is the route where I can maybe run into the least amount of lights, the least amount of cars, cross the least amount of streets.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: So this is gonna be like the safest route for me to go run.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: So I figured that out.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_02: And even when I lived at the place I lived, you know, three years ago, which is a different area of the Bronx, I figured out what was the best, safest route for me to do.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_02: And like people will figure it out.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_02: People will find a way.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_02: Sometimes it was like, you know, I lived a mile from track.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_02: I would run my mile to the track, run five miles on the track, and then run the mile back home.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: So now it's like I got my seven mile run in, but I really wasn't dodging a bunch of streets and you know, a bunch of cars.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_02: So yeah, New York is what we'll find a way.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_02: It gets cold, it gets snowy.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_02: We but we used to this.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_02: We like it's if it's if I wake up on Monday and it's snowing, I still gotta walk 10 minutes to the train.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna call out.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_02: If it's pouring rain, I still gotta walk 10 minutes to rain.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna call out.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_02: So for me, running is the train's still gonna work.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_02: Like, my my my boss is gonna be like, what are you talking about?
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_02: You you can't come in and snowing.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_02: This this is what it is.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_02: So with running, it's the same thing.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna I'm gonna find a way.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_02: If I gotta run tomorrow and it's raining, I'm gonna get the Rainproof, you know, waterproof, whatever, put a hat, whatever I gotta do it, I'm gonna go figure it out.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_02: So I think that's that's it.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: It's like, how do you run with like these like hard conditions and all that?
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_02: You figure it out because you're a New Yorker, you don't move to Florida, you just figure it out.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_02: You just figure it out.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_03: No, it couldn't say it any better, man.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_03: New York New Yorkers, I think it's a known fact, are resilient people, period.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_03: Um, you you put in a great way.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_03: If I landed in New York right now, for those listening, where should I start with run clubs?
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_02: Come to the Bronx Burners Wednesday night, 7 p.m.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, we are at Macombs Dam Park, which is literally across the street from Yankee Stadium.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_02: Take the four, the deep, or the B train right there.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_02: That's a beautiful scenery.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_02: You literally have the stadium, and you know, we run in the evening, so the lights are on in front of gate four.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: I think you'll find it's a great community for all ages.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_02: We got, you know, kids, we got senior citizens, we got everybody there, and there's a space for everybody.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_02: Um, very welcoming group.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_02: So I'd say come to the Bronx Burners, you know, we'll we'll have something for you for sure.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_03: I gotta ask you that, given that you do a lot of NYC, you know, clubs and stuff.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, on a more personal side, how you balance all this, man?
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_03: You run a lot of miles, you got races all year round, you know, you knew dad, congratulations.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_03: Thanks.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_03: Thanks.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_03: How are you making this work, man?
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_03: Because it's gotta be hard.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, work New York trains.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_03: I that's one thing I don't miss about New York, I will say the whole commuting two, three, four hours a day.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_02: Um, how do I manage?
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_02: I'm just figuring it out.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_02: My son is only four months, and um, you know, I fig I'm figuring it out.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_02: Like I said, I started like now I have a job that I have to go into the office five times a week.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_02: Before I was remote, I had a hybrid, so I was able to run kind of my lunch break, whatever the case is.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_02: But my situations have changed now and priorities have changed.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_02: So, how am I balancing this?
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_02: I'm figuring it out.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_02: I could be very honest.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_02: I have not gotten it completely right, you know, every day for the last four months.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_02: Sometimes it's like, all right, maybe I went for a run and I should have stayed home, or I went to whatever event and maybe I should have stayed home, or whatever the case is.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_02: So, um, how am I balancing it?
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_02: I'm still learning the balance and figuring out what is the appropriate time for me to do kind of my thing.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_02: Because like my thing is whatever I want to lump that in, right?
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_02: If I want to hang out with my friends, if I want to go run, if I want whatever it is that's like focused on me, there's like a time and a place for that.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_02: And then it's a time and a place where I have to work and I can't really, I can't move my work schedule around, right?
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_02: So like I have to be in the office X amount of time, and then that free time I gotta balance and carve out for my son, for my wife, my my dogs, for whatever.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_02: I had to do laundry, I gotta do all kinds of stuff.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it's it's that I'm figuring it out, and I have not gotten it completely right yet, but we're trending in the right direction.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_02: So that's the best way I could put it.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_03: No, man, look, from an outside point of view, you're crushing it, man.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_03: Because you you you didn't once at point say here, hey, I'm not doing my spring race or stings falling apart.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_03: You just crushing, as you said, New Yorkers resilient.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_02: Thank you, thank you, man.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_02: But I will say, you know, that's that that could be your opinion, but you asked my wife and she might tell you something different, right?
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_02: And that's important too.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_02: Like, it's like, yo, do you you have to because like I'll tell you this.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_02: I so I am a pacer for Bandit, for bandit running um their training program.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_02: They meet in Brooklyn on Saturday morning and Wednesday evening.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_02: So on Saturday morning, for the last, you know, the 16 weeks leading up to the marathon, I'm driving 45 minutes an hour to Brooklyn, doing the the run of maybe two hours.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: I'm coming back home again home at 12, let's just say 12.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_02: And I was like, every morning, I'm out the house, you know, until 12.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_02: My wife don't love that.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_02: So like the the there is the there is the perspective.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_02: It's like I'm committed, I stuck to it, but I don't know if I could not even I don't know.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_02: I can't do that every I can't do that for 16 weeks twice a year, you know, for 32 weeks out the year.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_02: I can't be out the house until 12, you know, coming home at 12 in 12 in the afternoon.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_02: So maybe the solution is like I don't do that program, and I just, you know, again, wake up at 6 30, do my run, because then I get back home at I finish my run at 8 30 9 a.m.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_02: And I could do, you know, my family thing.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_02: So um that's why I say it's like while it look looks one way, the reality may not be exactly the same.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_02: And I I appreciate I appreciate my wife's perspective on all this, and not even her perspective, but it's like I realize that's like I can't I'm also I'm not an elite runner, bro.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_02: Like I can't be giving up, you know, my my Saturday morning every every week.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_02: So like yeah, uh I I I am figuring out the balance and figuring out you know when to go, when to skip, and all that, but we're just figuring it out.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_03: I mean that that's real life, man.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_03: I appreciate you sharing that, man.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_03: I I've been through some of that myself.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_03: We're like, hey, working at home, not working at home, like early morning, I'm trying to do a double.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_03: It's like, yo, I don't even see you no more.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_03: You know?
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_03: And you're like, you know, this it goes on for a bit, and then you like start feeling the stresses and pressures, and like, you know what, baby, right?
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_03: You know, we we haven't gone out in a while, and I've been like, I'm tired from all of it too.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_03: So it's just real, man.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_02: Be tired, because that's like I said, I'm waking up earlier, I'm trying to go to bed early, but yeah, I'm I'm I'm trying.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_02: I'm trying, I'm trying.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_02: Took my wife to I took my wife to dinner last night, though.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_02: I told her this is me.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_02: I was like a babe.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_02: I think on Tuesday, I was like a babe, Friday night.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_02: I'm going out to dinner.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_02: Get ready.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_02: Friday, be ready.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_02: She wasn't ready, but um, I got home and she she got ready only when I got home, but we did, I took her out to dinner, so yeah, it's figuring it's figuring it out.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_02: It's figuring it out.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_02: But I I will say this like I I do appreciate that I have a lot going on because that's a good thing to have a lot going on.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, that means that sometimes I'm stretched one way where I should be going the other way, or I'm stretched thin, or whatever the case is.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_02: But I feel very fortunate to have a lot going on.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_02: You know, I make content too, a lot of paid paid content.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_02: So like I gotta wake up early to do that before I go to work.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_02: So I'm I'm fortunate that I have all of these things that require my time, but they have their rewards and you know, all of that.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_02: But it's it's definitely anyone who's looking is like, oh, you lucky to be making like bro, no, no, no.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_02: I got a full-time job, I had a full-time job and a part basically a part-time job trying to make you know this content a lot of the time.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_02: I I love it, I appreciate it, but it's not just free stuff.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_03: It's it's not how'd you get into the content?
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_03: What made you want to share your story?
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_02: I think just doing marathon stuff.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_02: Um, I like marathon, I like I like running content.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_02: So it was like I was training for London 2023, and I was I made some videos of me running at the track, workouts, stretching, and all of that stuff.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_02: I'm like, let me just record some of this, and that's what it was.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_02: It wasn't anything fancy, anything special, or like highly edited, it was iPhone and all that, and I did that, and then it turned into you know me getting a little more, oh, let me try this, let me try that.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_02: And then I, as I said, got getting into nerdy stuff, was talking about fueling and gels and all that, and that turned into like my first like paid gig because like the feed saw one of these like gel videos that I did.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_02: I didn't even tag them in the video.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_02: They're like, We like that.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_02: You want to make content for us?
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_02: I was like, you want to make content for us?
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_02: I was like, Of course I do.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_02: So that's how it wasn't um, it wasn't an intentional thing.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_02: I didn't I didn't aim to be a content creator or influencer, I know is what a lot of people call it, but that wasn't the goal, it just happened because I was making content.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_02: So when people ask me, so oh, how can I bro?
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_02: Easy, just go make 50.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_02: You want to be a content creator, go make 50 videos.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_02: They're gonna be terrible at first, they're gonna get better, and eventually someone's gonna see it.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, do I gotta make 50 videos?
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_02: Yes, you you gotta make 50 in order for you to get good at it.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_02: In order for you to get good at it, you have to they incrementally get better.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_02: So, like, I guess people thought it's like a shortcut.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, you gotta go do a lot of whack videos.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you have to make bad videos before you can make good videos.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_02: And like, if you don't, because my page now, right, turns into my resume for other brands to see the stuff that I had made.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_02: And it's like, oh, love that style of video.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_02: We love how you make.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_02: Would you wanna, you know, maybe do something for our product or for our brand or whatever the case is?
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_02: Because they see I'm not pitching my, I don't DM a bunch of businesses and ask them if they want they see it, and it's like, yeah, sure, you know, this is what we could do.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_02: Um, so when people ask me, I'm like, I'll be honest, yo, bro, you have no videos, you have no content on your page.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, how is somebody going to view you as someone like put you on?
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_02: How?
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_02: It's so, and I'm I have no problem explaining that.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_02: It's like I I make a lot and I make a lot of free videos, like my own personal content, because I think one, I enjoy it, I genuinely enjoy like shooting, editing, and and all of that stuff, but also like that turns into content of other people enjoy too, where I'm not talking about you know the gel that I ate or the thing that I drank, like in every single video.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_02: Sometimes it's just a video because I want to like make a new style of video, yeah.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_03: For the fun of the the editing and whatnot, yeah.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_03: Man, so talking about all that, you know, you say you got a lot, it's a blessing to have a lot, obviously.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_03: What are you looking forward to uh in 2026 now, man?
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, you already got Jersey, we got the exclusive here, Jersey City.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say it soon, and I think a lot I told a lot of people, but yeah, we got Jersey City um coming up 2026.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_02: So we got that.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_02: Um so I got I got a pretty pretty pretty cool thing.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_02: I'm doing um I'm doing a podcast with uh Chris Chavez and Sidious Mag.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_02: So that would be coming in, yeah, that'll be coming in 2026.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_02: Um I won't share any more details.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_02: If you if you know, you know you saw something.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_02: You saw something a few weeks ago, you maybe saw something, so we have something coming.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, coming in 2026.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_02: I I genuinely don't know what day or anything like that, because in this case it's kind of cool.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_02: I'm just talent on the show.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_02: So like I'm not I'm just on the microphone, I'm not editing, I'm not, yeah, but um no, I'm very, very excited because one, I'm a huge fan of Sidious Mag and what they do in the in the in the track and field world.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_02: So to be able to contribute to that um it's huge, and I feel like yo, this is like I was just making a bunch of videos over here now.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_02: Now I'm on Sidious Mag with Chris Chavez on the side.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_02: So we got that coming.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_02: Um, and very excited.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_02: I'll probably say something.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_02: Um, I'll probably share that like in the new year too.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_02: But yeah, that that's so see, it's it's more things, it's more things now for me to share things like babe, babe.
