Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Legendary coaching career came to a close on Friday. Greg
- 0:04Speaker 1: Popovich stepped down at the age of seventy six, but
- 0:07Speaker 1: will stay with the Spurs as team president. He missed
- 0:10Speaker 1: most of the season after suffering a mild stroke. His
- 0:14Speaker 1: resume is without equal twenty nine seasons with the Spurs,
- 0:20Speaker 1: most career wins, five championships, and three times the Coach
- 0:25Speaker 1: of the Year, though it could have been more than that.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Wow, what I mean?
- 0:31Speaker 1: He was amazing and Shack, what did you what did
- 0:35Speaker 1: you know you were getting when you were facing a
- 0:37Speaker 1: Greg Popovich coach team.
- 0:40Speaker 2: We know he's going to be facing the team that
- 0:41Speaker 2: was well disciplined. You know, we used to call it
- 0:44Speaker 2: the program. But you know, I love the man for
- 0:47Speaker 2: a different reason. Growing up in San Antonio, mom and
- 0:51Speaker 2: dad didn't have a lot money for shoes. So pair
- 0:54Speaker 2: of my shoes as ragly, and somebody told my father
- 0:56Speaker 2: that somebody on the Spurs wore side of twenty two.
- 0:59Speaker 2: I think Chuck Neppett. So my father reached out to
- 1:02Speaker 2: the Spurs, you know, Pop being military, him being military.
- 1:05Speaker 2: To hit it off. Pop gave us, you know, a
- 1:08Speaker 2: couple of pair of shoes. I never wanted anything, So
- 1:11Speaker 2: I've always had admiration and respect for him and playing
- 1:14Speaker 2: against them all those years. You know, we know we
- 1:16Speaker 2: had to either go through Sacramento or San Antonio to
- 1:19Speaker 2: get to the championship, and when we weren't winning, the
- 1:21Speaker 2: Spurs were winning. So, like you said, legendary career. But
- 1:25Speaker 2: you know, just just a better man. And I'm sad
- 1:29Speaker 2: we're not gonna be seeing I'm on the court, but Pop,
- 1:32Speaker 2: thank you, brother, appreciate you very much.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Still has a great passion for the game, and that
- 1:36Speaker 1: will be in evidence as he and wells as the president.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Yeah, number one, I just want to say thank you
- 1:42Speaker 3: for his service. Anybody who's in the service, I have
- 1:46Speaker 3: great admiration and respect for them. I mean, to think
- 1:49Speaker 3: about an NBA coach being a veteran like that's kind
- 1:52Speaker 3: of crazy to even think about, but it just shows
- 1:54Speaker 3: you the type of person he was. I just want
- 1:56Speaker 3: to say thank you for your service and thank you
- 1:58Speaker 3: for everything he did for the game. I've been blessed
- 2:02Speaker 3: to get to know coach a little bit, not great,
- 2:05Speaker 3: but just thank you what he did. Because in the NBA,
- 2:09Speaker 3: we are a family. Everybody is in this thing together.
- 2:11Speaker 3: The coaches, the players, the medical staff, the fans, everybody's
- 2:14Speaker 3: part of this amazing life that we've had. I mean,
- 2:18Speaker 3: I'm sixty two. I've been because of that stupid little ball.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Because of that stupid little ball, I have lived the
- 2:26Speaker 3: greatest life ever. I can't believe. I lucky and blessed
- 2:30Speaker 3: out being thank you for what you did for the game.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Coach Pop. Indeed, thank you. Coach Pop.
- 2:34Speaker 4: One of my favorite pitchers in my offices with Coach
- 2:37Speaker 4: Pop and coach John Thompson when we had All Star
- 2:41Speaker 4: Weekend together. So that's one of my favorite pictures that
- 2:43Speaker 4: I have. You know, Coach Bopovich, you know, is not
- 2:47Speaker 4: the Spurs, he's the NBA. You look at his coaching
- 2:50Speaker 4: tree and all the guys that are in an NBA
- 2:52Speaker 4: that are coaching that a head coaches around the league
- 2:56Speaker 4: is probably more than fifteen sixteen at general managers.
- 3:01Speaker 2: And it's the same thing.
- 3:03Speaker 4: So everyone used to just cherry pick off of all
- 3:06Speaker 4: of his coaching staff and actually their their executive staff.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It's not a we have office focus. I have businesses, bro.
- 3:15Speaker 1: It's not a it's not a coaching tree. When it
- 3:17Speaker 1: comes to Pop, it just because you hit that you
- 3:20Speaker 1: do is talk TV meantime. How about this in two
- 3:24Speaker 1: thousand and eight, after they had hacked shocked during the playoffs,
- 3:28Speaker 1: here we are opening night, opening tip based on your face,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Shack says a band.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Do you see this, I said? Whoever utilizes the hacker
- 3:41Speaker 2: check it's a clown move. That's that's tremendous, That is tremendous.
- 3:48Speaker 1: We will come back. We will wrap things up in
- 3:51Speaker 1: just a second.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Where is your office office, kid?
- 3:54Speaker 3: What's in there?
- 3:55Speaker 2: In my mansion?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Color books?
- 3:57Speaker 2: Color books in there? He
