- Jeff Perera: Welcome to the weekly run. I'm Jeff. And today we're talking about what's hot at Jeff's Bagel Run. And this week we have a special guest. Abby is on the pod. Welcome, Abby. Aaron: Now, Mary? Abby: Thank you, I'm so excited. Jeff Perera: I'm so glad you're here. Aaron: It's i same, same. And I have to say, I mean, people know this by now, but it took me a solid I d I don't want to admit to a year, maybe half a year, that I realized the Abby Abby connection. And the saddest part of this, just I just want to say this, is that for the longest I spent too much time trying to figure out the acronym. I'm like, Asiago, what is B? ⁓ And I just couldn't figure out I I tried to fake a name. I had to construct an Abby name and just never put and I had actually met Abby multiple times by this point and just could not get out of my head this this I thought it was an acronym. It was terrible. So to listeners, no, there's only one Abby. Jeff Perera: That's Abby: Fascinating. I've had so many people tell me ⁓ ⁓ they love the Abby bagel and stuff like that, not knowing that I'm the Abby, but never that they thought it was an acronym. So ⁓ Jeff Perera: This is amazing. This is amazing. I'm wondering like Aaron: Yeah. I'm also an engineer, so it's not all right up there. It's everything needs to be scientific and could just be like, ⁓ that's a great name, but no, I'm trying to deconstruct it for six months. Jeff Perera: That's hilarious. I love it. Well, ⁓ you the Abby Bagel a bagel of the day. ⁓ And it is a plain bagel topped with salt, asiago cheese. very delicious. And it wasn't too long ago, We thought this would be fun to do it on a jalapeno bagel. So now we have the spicy Abby. Abby: Wow. Jeff Perera: It's also delicious. Jalapeno bagel topped with salt, onion, asiago cheese. And I don't know, I thought it would be fun. And Abby and I did this one other time before, but I think it could become a regular spot when the spicy Abby is on the schedule for the bagel of the day to do a spicy Abby takes. So we have Abby on the pod today so she can bring us her maybe spicy take. Aaron: Which is delicious. Which is a special treat, if you think about it, because we get see, we get the spicy Abby Takes just in person. Right? We this is we are we already get to benefit from this for those of us that work in the office. ⁓ Yeah, exactly. So, you know, just sharing that with everybody else is really the gift through the pod. Jeff Perera: Yes, yes. Abby: Sometimes, sometimes the spicy Abby does come out. Jeff Perera: I I think this is gonna be great. So we'll see where it goes. But ⁓ Abby, did you bring a take for us today? Abby: Did I have a couple takes, but I'll only share one this time. Jeff Perera: Yeah, just one take. What do you got? Give us your take. Aaron: See, she's a pro already. She's you get the tease, we're gonna get the take, you know, we know there's more takes in the in the in the queue. So like first one first time out. Abby: Mm-hmm. Jeff Perera: I know, I'm like, whoa. Abby: You ga you gave me time to think about the takes. I created a whole list. But but my spicy take is that does anybody actually like an everything bagel or are you just trying to be sophisticated? Jeff Perera: I love it. I love it. Aaron: Ooh. Jeff Perera: That's gonna that's gonna create a lot of a lot of hate. Aaron: ⁓ That's that lived up to the to the title, actually. I mean that is Jeff Perera: Wow. Okay, so does anyone actually like an everything bagel, or are they just trying to be sophisticated? There's a lot to unpack here, Aaron I Aaron: So first off, I just want to say I love this take, and and here's why. Because I I don't agree I'll give my opinion on I actually really like an everything bagel. So like I don't know what that says about me. But I do agree with that. Like if you order a rye or pumpernickel bagel, I actually think this is true. So I I would extend her sp ⁓ her ⁓ spicy take. ⁓ I feel that I'm come on, are you trying to be, man? Like like pumper nickel really, that's what's what you want for breakfast, really. So I feel affronted as not as a as an everything seasoning lover. ⁓ but but I would pass that shame on to somebody else in a different bagel flavor. Jeff Perera: Wow. Okay, so I ⁓ everything is not my first choice. So I sort of I sort of feel this a little bit. Although I hadn't thought about someone just trying to be sophisticated. I mean there are some really simple bagels, right? I'm a simple bagel guy. Everybody knows it. I talk about it all the time. I'm a salt bagel. Like that's what I want to have every day. But I do enjoy the Asiago everything. It's got a little cheese on it. It's got just a dusting of the everything seasoning. Aaron: It's one of my favorites. Abby: And you know, I'm not saying that I don't like an everything bagel or an asiago everything bagel. That's my go-to when the Abby's not around. But who are you trying to be when you just get a plain everything bagel? Like are you just trying to like step it up from the plain Add some seasoning? Aaron: Okay, I feel attacked. I feel attacked as this goes on. I feel very attacked. Jeff Perera: Maybe Aaron Aaron should be answering this. Like who are you trying to be, Aaron? Like what is what is it about the everything bagel, Aaron, that you are drawn to? Abby: Ha Aaron: It's i I I just I'm really slow soul searching here. I really genuinely like everything seasoning. And so now as we're like really just turning into a a a dissection of me, I actually have a thing like we have it in the house, not just mine, I'm not some kind of weirdo, but like I have a thing of everything seasoning, like a little a little jar of everything seasoning, and I'll sprinkle that on other foods. I'll just be like this needs to taste like everything. And I'll just sprinkle a little that on to like a different dish. Man, she got me. I'm I'm cold pegged. This is this got me. You might be right. You might be right. I'm trying to I'm trying to fancy up my food. With some a with some everything seasoning. Wow. I'm really I wasn't ready for this this look into myself today. And this is not what I expected from the first from the first place. I didn't expect to be the target, is what I'm saying. It's I feel I feel very targeted. Jeff Perera: Wow. Wow. Abby: Exactly. I didn't mean to target you. Jeff Perera: Yeah. I'm tending to agree with you. I think that the everything bagel might be overrated. ⁓ And maybe it's not because they want to be more sophisticated, maybe it's because they just ⁓ don't what else to say. Aaron: ⁓ Abby: They haven't tried a rosemary salt yet. Aaron: That's probably there's probably truth there. Jeff Perera: That's fa there's a lot of truth in that, yeah. Aaron: But I will I will say as this has turned into like a psychological, you know, t you know, breakdown. I would say this to you, I'm gonna go on the offensive here, no more defense. I would say to you, why are you just getting a salt? Like why stop at salt? You can have so much more. You can add in delicious, you know, little little ⁓ these delicious little things to add to it. I don't even know where to start. But you like why would I only get half that? I and I and I'll make the same call out to people looking at sesame. Jeff Perera: Yeah. Aaron: Like why? Why stop there? Why just get sesame? When you can have that and more. You're leaving things on the table, salt bagel. That's what I'm saying. You're Jeff Perera: now I understand how you feel and I'm sorry we attacked you, Aaron. Aaron: Listen, we all can agree though that you should put a slice of cheese on it. Whatever bagel you're starting with. And I will actually the funny if I go anywhere else, which I haven't in years at this point, but like when I go to another like so an everything bagel was what I'd that's would be the bagel that I would always order. That would be my order. I'm realizing this now. And since I started going to Jeff's, I don't think I've had an everything bagel. Because you get the Asiaga everything. like I said before why are you gonna leave things on the table? Jeff Perera: One hundred percent. Cheese. Abby: Absolutely. Aaron: Okay, why can when I can have an everything bagel with cheese would I not get it? Jeff Perera: Or the jalapeno cheddar. Or the Aaron: Now if you made th why the spicy Abby's the perfect bagel, because it's it's literally almost a ⁓ Jeff Perera: Wait, I think he's about you're you were you were about to make an everything you were just about to a jalapeno cheddar everything. You were about to say that. I saw it in your eyes, like I knew exactly what was coming. Aaron: I was, actually. ⁓ I was. But that's basically I mean that's that's a spicy it's it's a spicy Abby. It's the same thing. It's it's all the goodness in there. It's mostly there. ⁓ Jeff Perera: Yeah, to some to Yeah. So my sister my sister Jill when she lived locally, she would come to the shop and she would ask me for a chedry thing. Aaron: Okay. Jeff Perera: Yeah. And everything bagel with a slice of cheddar cheese on top. It's delicious. Delicious. Aaron: Yeah, I would I want a kitchen sink bagel where it's basically every savory approach we have in one bagel and it's just too much. But you're like I'm gonna Jeff Perera: I love to tease I love to tease a good bagel, but Aaron, we made we had a really delicious bagel this week at the office while you were gone. Like really delicious. It was well we the pesto bagel, which is gonna come forward in September to give people some excitement. So good. The other one that we had, I don't have a name for it yet, but it was a blueberry bagel. Spread with some ricotta cheese. Aaron: How dare you? I was only gone for two days. Yeah, delicious. Jeff Perera: Bacon bits, rosemary, mozzarella, and then topped with hot honey. There w it was Aaron: I don't know what's happening there. It's like a it's like it's like a three course meal. Jeff Perera: It was insane. It was so good. It was so good. So the spicy Abby take. man. All right. Well, Aaron clearly disagrees. I'm on the fence. ⁓ but I lean towards agree. All right, well, this isn't so bad for the first spicy take. I'm here for And like I can't wait till she starts to see the rest of the agenda for today because I'm f feeling like we're about to be attacked, Aaron. ⁓ Aaron: And truth be told, I actually don't even disagree, I just feel targeted. She's probably right. I just feel targeted. Jeff Perera: Heard. We could have shirts made that says I like everything bagels. Aaron: I just I mean we've made yours for less. Jeff Perera: someone but this is true. ⁓ well Abby, I think you brought a really solid take for the first go round. Thanks for ⁓ thanks for doing that. Hang out though on the hang with us for I mean, if you got like twenty more minutes you should we got a whole agenda of things we're chatting about that I'm sure there'll be more spicy takes on. Aaron: It's good. Agreed. Abby: Thank you. Absolutely ready to give more spicy takes. Jeff Perera: Let's go. All right, well, this has been a really big week at the Bagel Run for our sports f fandom. I don't know what else to call, I'm not really sure how to frame it, because we we just ⁓ we've been into sports at the Bagel Run recently. We've talking about basketball, we're talking about hockey, it's World Cup week. We even we've there's so much happening. So the Knicks won. Aaron: It's just busy overall right now. Just across the board. Jeff Perera: The Knicks won. They're the NBA champions. I think the Aaron: They did. They did. It was all those it was all those breakfast sandwiches. It's the it's ⁓ clearly the fuel of champions. It's a bagel. Jeff Perera: has to be the Brunson bagel definitely has legs. I mean I I made another one. It was so good. It was just like the Aaron: Did you actually really cook the hash browns this time or I mean it was generous calling those hash browns the first time around. I wasn't gonna say anything, but I mean Jeff Perera: Yeah, I got ⁓ crispier this time. I under I re I caught a lot of shade for how I maybe I did it for the bit, Aaron. Like I mean it got you know, I had to have some kind of like like counterpoint in the in the video. Like I had to have someone comment, like a rage bait comment for engagement. Aaron: Yeah, sure. It's East Easter egg. Yeah, it was it was a good it was a good selection. Jeff Perera: ⁓ that was fun though. So, ⁓ yeah, the Knicks won. And, you know, our, you know, big fan of the bagel run, Jalen Chatfield and the Carolina Hurricanes won the NHL championship. They're they're the keepers of the cup now. They've got the they got what is it, Lord Stanley? They got it. They're holding it. Aaron: Awesome. So the real question is the is the is the cup bagel dream still alive? Jeff Perera: ⁓ Bagels in the Cup Dream is very much so alive. I don't know if you saw the video, Aaron, but Ryan went to ⁓ Las Vegas ⁓ and cheered. he was by Jalen and the team. He came out. He cheered the team along. He was on the ice. He's already touched the cup. He's got a video of asking Jalen what he's doing now he's the Aaron: That is fair. ⁓ did he? Jeff Perera: Stanley Cup and he said, I'm going to Jeff Bagel run. Aaron: ⁓ my god, he did not. That's amazing. That's amazing. Jeff Perera: Abby was like, This is crazy. She was like, This was nuts. Yeah, it it happened. Aaron: ⁓ that's so great. Abby: It is 'cause it it's really cool 'cause like my spicy take is that hockey is a top sport. Not basketball, not baseball, not football, it's hockey. Aaron: Ooh. Wow, that is Jeff Perera: ⁓ hockey is definitely your top sport for sure. Abby: My top sport Jeff Perera: It's definitely your top sport. Aaron: So this so this then is is very exciting for you as a big hockey fan that that don't wanna oversell this, but we've had you know we've got a bagel of the day chef is a Stanley Cup winner. That's really what we're Somebody has made a made a bagel. Abby: Absolutely. Jeff Perera: Yeah. Abby: has a bagel named after them. There's not many of us. Jeff Perera: And and there are not many. There are not many. There's very few people. Sh I I caught that. Aaron: Exactly. There's not many of us, she says. There's two of you. There's literally two of you. I mean that's that's that's good. You guys you're in rarefied air. Jeff Perera: It's pretty exciting. The cup will its rounds ⁓ and ⁓ I believe it's going to ⁓ swing through Jeff's bagel run and be filled with bagels, maybe cream cheese. Maybe we'll eat bagels and cream cheese out of the cup. I don't I don't know. But ⁓ it'll Aaron: That's that's awesome. I've I've heard crazier things with that cup, so it's not a stretch. The players get to do what they want with that cup when it's their turn, which is kinda cool. Jeff Perera: So one, it's like a fun lore, right, for hockey or you know, but if you're a ⁓ if you're a player, it's pretty neat that you to hold the trophy and keep it for a while. Aaron: Yeah, exactly. I mean, if I'm Jalen I think I'm definitely filling the cup with a bagel that has been named after me. Like why would you at least for one day, I mean you get it for a couple of days, right? Why wouldn't you spend at least an afternoon doing that? Jeff Perera: Easy. I mean there's no doubt. ⁓ the team came by today and ⁓ they had like a big team like fun golf outing like to celebrate and spend time together. They picked up a few boxes of coffee and a few dozen bagels and headed out to the links. It was really cool. So they're definitely bagel run fans. It's exciting. So super excited for ⁓ Ryan's f he's he's floating. Aaron: ⁓ that's awesome. That's also. S so Ryan's on Cloud Nine then. He's he's had i he's got this. He's got a store opening this week. I mean Jeff Perera: Floating. Yeah, it's pretty awesome. And I just love that, you know, ⁓ the Carolina Hurricanes are just Bagel Run fans as much as just Bagel Run fans are of Carolina. So it's great. It's pretty cool. Yay Sports. Aaron: It's awesome. Ha ha ha. Abby: Yay. Jeff Perera: the other sporting event happening right now that is kind of ⁓ I mean, it's sort taking over the world, to be honest, and it's being hosted here in the Americas, ⁓ is the World Cup. And ⁓ Aaron: Sort of. It definitely is. It's madness out there. In all the good ways, but I did. I did. I went it was it was awesome. ⁓ I went to the one in New York, or I guess really New Jersey. ⁓ they kind of share share ownership of that. I took a lot of trains between the two, so I can tell you that much. I definitely saw a lot of both. But it was amazing. Jeff Perera: I mean it's it is yeah. Well you lived it. You you lived it. You went to a match. How was it? Aaron: It was absolutely great. ⁓ went, saw a great game, ⁓ cheered with ⁓ eighty of closest friends and Jeff Perera: That's awesome. Yeah. Aaron: Got back safe. ⁓ the the are so great that I think anybody I met a bunch of people at the it's at the game that were just Sort of got the tickets and we're just happy to be there. And they went up and whichever two of the jerseys they liked the best, they bought and they're like, ⁓ I talked to them like, ⁓ are you you a France fan? Are you a Senegal fan? They're like, No, this I like this jersey better. So we're just cheering. We're from somewhere else entirely. And you just get in there and you get rolled up in the atmosphere. So it's gonna be a great summer. Jeff Perera: Ha ha ha. That's amazing. That's that's super fun. I I'm really excited yesterday's games were wild. you had Mbappe scored two goals for France, which ⁓ put him in the lead for most World Cup goals scored temporarily because then Messi came back last night and got a hat trick. ⁓ It was wild. He's like, Okay, I'll see your two and I'll three. Wild. Absolutely wild. Aaron: Yeah, yeah it was. And did three. Thanks Thank God they took ⁓ they took him out. So we can slow down. I mean, this tournament will set this is the first game for both of them. So like like they've got if everything goes well, they've got like eight more. it's gonna be a fun tournament. You know, we don't this is ⁓ well we'll to when we go international, ⁓ we'll have have, some nice international flavors at Jeff's for the next World Cup. ⁓ Jeff Perera: Right. ⁓ Aaron: Country representing flavors. Jeff Perera: Well the w well we have a week coming up during the finals week. So we have the semifinals and finals. We have a hidden week plan. International week is coming. Yes, we have so many fun flavors. I'm really, really excited for it. And ⁓ yeah, it's coming. Well, I mean, absolutely it has to be. Aaron, it has to be everything based. I mean, like, name a soccer fan that's not like bougie. Aaron: Do you have a hidden week planned? ⁓ my gosh. That's amazing. All everything based. No, not on that one. Okay. It was a it was a stretch. ⁓ I I mean maybe this is it's the beautiful game. Yeah, it's there is a there's a level there that is maintained. I'll agree. I mean when you think about the the main you know, the primary athletic sort of garb is a scarf, then ⁓ that says something about your sport. Jeff Perera: and like thinks their sport is the best sport. But you call it the beautiful game. You call it the beautiful game. It's the beautiful game. you're you know Listen, you guys are just doing the most. It's okay. It's okay. Can't can't leave anything la absolutely. ⁓ Aaron: This this why leave anything on the table? Abby: Soccer is such an everything bagel. Like they just they just are the same in my mind. Everything bagels in soccer. Same vibes. Aaron: Yep, soccer. Wow. Jeff Perera: We may have to release Abby f we may have to release Abby from the pod at this point because we just lost, I don't seven people who watch soccer worldwide. So no skin. ⁓ Although okay, I will this. So we've been talking about this in our household that we've sorta become ⁓ a ⁓ an interesting ⁓ ⁓ sport. Aaron: Yeah. Abby: Oops. Jeff Perera: fandom in our household. We watch Formula One every weekend. We are very, very excited about hockey when it comes on and we couldn't be th more thrilled for the World Cup to start. So we're we're we're an everything bagel. What are you gonna say? I don't know what to tell ya. Aaron: Yeah. And I and I was here in ninety four. parents took me to a game ⁓ ⁓ it incredible and so I I ⁓ that whole journey, it's like everybody a worldly this time, you know, whenever this comes around. Having it, you know, in your home on your home soil is ⁓ you know, next level. I can't wait for the next, you know Jeff Perera: That's awesome. Aaron: Four to eight straight years of just soccer mania here. It happened last time and I can't wait for it again. Jeff Perera: For sure. I remember ninety four I think Italy was the ⁓ one of the teams. ⁓ And Baggio, Baggio their he was their straight Yeah, I remember that because ⁓ you know, my family has deep Italian roots and were all about it even though they had ⁓ no idea what soccer was. ⁓ Aaron: They were. Mm-hmm. Roberto Baggio. Yep. Mm-hmm. Jeff Perera: That's all they knew. That my team. That's who I'm rooting for. Yeah. Yeah, no doubt. Well, sports are exciting, ⁓ the other thing that's really exciting at Jeffs Bagel Run is we have another new store opening. Aaron: They just know a flag came over and they're like, There, that's us. Exactly. Exactly. We've been on a little a little quiet moment, but they're they're cranking back up again. This is the first one another block. Jeff Perera: I'm gonna ⁓ it's really it's been nice to not have a new store opening, but Aaron: Well, it's different for me than it is for the two of you. Just to be clear. I'm excited, like, yeah, more stores, that's great, let's open ⁓ and then you guys are the ones that are flying around the country opening these stores, putting in twelve hour days. I'm just like, new store, that's great. All right, it's dinner time, it's fine. Abby: It's so fun though. Every one is still so exciting and you kind of forget about how tired you get from this store opening when the next one comes around. Even if they're back to back, you're like, I get to do this again. This is so exciting. So ⁓ Aaron: That's great. That's the perfect distance. It's like if you just just enough time to forget the bad parts. It'd be like, ⁓ yeah, let's go. It's great. Abby: Exactly, exactly. Jeff Perera: I agree with that. I think that there is this energy around new store openings that is just different there's this you feel it in the community, you feel it in the store, you know, your owner is excited. Everyone has this like heightened experience around the bagel run and it it's contagious. It's contagious too. It just so I'm thrilled, Raleigh Aaron: Game time. Jeff Perera: Is opening our Glen Lake store number three for Ryan. And then we're staying in North Carolina for next week. We're opening in Wilmington. Wilmington, North Carolina. New franchisee, first store, beautiful location. Coastal Carolina in general is like top tier. Aaron: Which is new, a new franchisee, so it'll be really exciting. It's their first. ⁓ Couldn't agree more. Jeff Perera: Top tier. So Wilmington is is on the docket for next week and then I'm pretty sure we like have five weeks in a row of openings. Aaron: I think so too. Last other time I saw the schedule. Is it? Yeah. Abby: We do. We do. Go into Texas next, after North Carolina. And then I'd have to check the list, but I just I I can only do three weeks at a time. Jeff Perera: Abby knows best. Abby knows best. Yeah. So I think it's Aaron: ⁓ Jeff Perera: yeah, it's back to back North Carolina, Texas, Gainesville maybe, opening after that. And then I think if it's not if it's not Gainesville's plantation, those two may s flop, but yeah, five in a row. Abby: Yeah. Aaron: I was gonna say I think we're back in Florida. Abby: Gainesville and then probably plantation. Aaron: Gainville's Gainesville's just in time for move in day. It's like it's well timed. Jeff Perera: It looks like there's they'll turn over the building and get like grand opening probably the week before move in. And then the next weekend will be move in weekend. It's gonna be wild. Yeah. Aaron: Can you imagine? I just remember our v our Ovido store being right next to UCF and just like I just yeah. That one's gonna be a good one too. You guys will get your experience from that one. Jeff Perera: It was insane. Abby: It'll so fun. It'll be so so fun. Jeff Perera: It's gonna be great. You know I mean Danielle's a gator, so she's hyped for this store to open. my oldest son Jack is ⁓ gonna be his junior year there, so he's ⁓ he's ready the bagel run to open. It's gonna be a lot of fun. I'm excited. Aaron: Should be a good good crowd there. I mean, look at the clout on that. You'll be able to go to ⁓ be able to go go get Bagel's friends like ⁓ it's like ⁓ do you know Jeff do I know Jeff's? ⁓ I know Jeff's Jeff Perera: Can I tell can I tell fun? Should I tell funny story about this? Because he he came to Orlando, he met some friends out at UCF, they went to a concert, and they were talking about Jeff's bagel run. And he's like, ⁓ yeah, it's great. He's like, that's my dad. And they're like, Okay, whatever, dude. That's like not your dad. And he's like, No. He's like, no, for real. Yeah, he's like, for real. He's like, that's my dad. Aaron: I guess, obviously. It's it's like saying my dad's Papa John sort of thing. It's like what do you what are you talking about? Get out of here. Jeff Perera: And his friend that came down, his roommate that came down with him from Florida like, Yeah, seriously, like his dad is Jeff. And his friends locally or that he knew from, you know, back home that came to UCF were like, No way. He's like, We eat there all the time. There's no way. And he's like, He so I get a text message like, hey dad, text me a picture. You know? And of course I'm like ne ever not representing because I'm always working. And so I sent him a picture and Aaron: Yeah yeah. Jeff Perera: They said their friends, he was his friends lost their mind. Like, I can't believe your dad's Jeff that's crazy. So it's just funny. He he's he's just starting to like understand what it means. Abby obviously, you know, you're on the pod now, you got spicy takes, you got a job, you're in it deep, but he's just now scratching. ⁓ You're stuck. Aaron: It's Yeah. Abby: I really am. There's no backing out now. Aaron: Yeah I mean you you have a bagel named after you. Alright? Like that's I don't think you ever had a choice. You were kind of indoctrinated into this game before you even get a chance to choose. Abby: You know, I didn't That's fair. I didn't actually ask to have a bagel named after me. The team just did it. Aaron: That makes it even better. Jeff Perera: No. Honestly, the team did it. Like I don't know if we've ever told that story. I mean, we've told it a so we've never told it on this pod, but on the show, no, but like we've talked about it before, but I used to make this bagel at home. It was like a salted onion with aceago cheese. And it was delicious. Abby loved it. Everybody in the house sort of ate on it. And she would visit the shop and she would say, Hey, will you ⁓ make me that bagel you make at home? And I was like, Yeah, absolutely. And Aaron: No, I don't think we have on the on the show. Yeah. Jeff Perera: Jaclyn at the store and Rebecca and some of the other like longtime team members that have been working for us are like, What you got going on over there? What's that thing? I'm like, That's a salt and onion asiago bagel. Who are you making that for? I'm like, Abby's here. She wanted it. We made it at home and she wanted a bagel. ⁓ they'd be like, Hey, why don't you make me that bagel that Abby likes? And then Jaclyn started calling it, Make me the Abbe bagel. Hey, make me that Abby bagel. And customers, of course, you know, we were We're still pretty loose, but like, you we're in Ocoee We were just like people are like, What do you got there? What's in that box? Like, you know, what's happening? And we're like, it's a it's it's the Abby bagel, it's a salt, onion, asiago cheese bagel, and they eat it, they'd be like, That's delicious, it should be a bagel of the day. Please make it for a bagel of the day. And you know, when we had one or two we had two stores at the time, it's like, Yeah, we can throw it on the menu. Throw it on the menu as the Abby 'cause salted onion asiago is a mouthful. So you know. That's where that's where Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. That that's that's when you know stuff's great. That's how an origin story should be. ⁓ And remember that ⁓ old or that like OG ocoee team ⁓ there a very blurred line between ⁓ employee and ⁓ It was very communal experience ⁓ when that when you in there and I just remember all kinds of great stories about about that. I remember Jeff Perera: Yeah, a hundred percent. One hundred percent. Aaron: They had their unofficial mascot too, which was like the cat in the window of the apartment complex across the street from the restaurant and they'd named the cat and the cat had backstories and everything else and they saw it every day. So they yeah, I yeah, I see how this this could come about and so like that's Jeff Perera: Yes. Yes. Even today when when I go into ocoee and I use that shop as my little test kitchen, c guests all the time eating bagels that are like not been out in the world. And it's fun. It's fun. You've you've ⁓ Aaron: That's the way it should be. Abby: I mean we had that experience like a couple of days ago at Colonial with everyone there. With the pumpkin bagels. With fall, yeah. The pumpkin bagels. Aaron: That's true. That's right. Jeff Perera: ⁓ yeah, you were sitting with us. Yeah. The pump that those guests, they're from South Florida. They were so funny. I was like, how about this pumpkin bagel? And they're How about I'm like, How about this one? And how about this one? They're like, This one's really good. It was so fun. It was so fun. Aaron: That's the That's the best thing. You imagine that? Like come in for breakfast and end up like being on a tasting menu? Jeff Perera: hanging out with Jeff and Aaron and Abby, tasting bagels for, you know, months from now. That's a that just doesn't happen. That's great. That's a vibe. It's a reason to show up in the shop. It was really good. It was really good. It was really great. It's like Aaron: Especially 'cause it was a good it was a good lineup too. Abby: It was a great lineup. Aaron: It's we've had ones where it's kinda like, I I didn't know I we didn't need to be a part of that. But this one was good. Not all of them are perfect, but this one was pretty perfect. Jeff Perera: Yeah, this was sort of final taste, which has helped. You you ever you and Abby are often a part of first or second taste. And so it's not always there. But yeah, it's the only way to get to it. ⁓ but yeah, that and that's gonna be a banger week. Like seven seven home runs. It's awesome. Aaron: You gotta experiment. That's how you do it. Abby: There's one specifically that I am looking forward to. Jeff Perera: It's well, can't wait to talk about that one when we get around to it. Pumpkin season's gonna be fun this year. Just leave it there. this has fun. I'm so it's great. Abby, welcome to the pod. Aaron: I'm looking for a ball. Abby: Right? It will be. Thank you. I'll come on whenever you want me on. Aaron: That's r that's really what it is. You nailed it. Like it's not harder than that. Great job. Jeff Perera: Yeah. I'm like I'm looking ahead of now trying to figure out like when's when can we get the spicy Abby back 'cause clearly bringing Abby onto the pot has made it better. So ⁓ takes ⁓ they could be ⁓ ⁓ love you, Aaron. ⁓ we'll have a great week. Aaron: Listen, next Abby: I mean I'll come on when it's just the Abby. They won't be as spicy. They won't be as targeted to you, Aaron. Aaron: ⁓ that one was pretty good. I feel scene though. That's what's important. Jeff Perera: Big fresh, bring joy, build community. See you next time.
