Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:05Speaker 2: All right, Well, as you know, I've been doing a
- 0:07Speaker 2: lot of advocacy work on this podcast. Maybe it helped
- 0:09Speaker 2: avoid a government shutdown. I don't know, but I want
- 0:12Speaker 2: to make another pitch. You know, Elon and Trump are
- 0:17Speaker 2: responsible and the reason why Sonny and Butch are back
- 0:21Speaker 2: down to Earth after their nine month overstay up in space.
- 0:28Speaker 1: And I think the only thing to.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Do with Elon's millions and Trump's stroke of a pen
- 0:34Speaker 2: not an autopen.
- 0:34Speaker 1: By the way, is this pay the astronauts.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Pay them more than just a salary for staying up
- 0:45Speaker 2: there for nine months. I'm gonna do another separate podcast
- 0:49Speaker 2: about what I've been reading today, how there were cuts
- 0:52Speaker 2: to funding that was actually helping track abducted Ukrainian kids
- 0:59Speaker 2: into Russia. We're gonna talk about that in the next episode,
- 1:02Speaker 2: but for this one, I want to keep it focused
- 1:04Speaker 2: because according to New York Times, the astronauts aboard the
- 1:07Speaker 2: International Space Station received no overtime, no holiday or weekend pay.
- 1:14Speaker 2: And I guess if they're federal employees, with NASA having
- 1:18Speaker 2: them land, they maybe the government's ideas they should be thankful.
- 1:21Speaker 1: To have a job after they come back from space.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It shouldn't work that way, especially when.
- 1:26Speaker 2: This was supposed to be a nine day mission turning
- 1:29Speaker 2: into what nine months? And I just feel like what
- 1:36Speaker 2: the power Elon has and the money specifically, and the
- 1:44Speaker 2: decision Trump made to get these astronauts back down through
- 1:49Speaker 2: SpaceX an Elon and all that the two of them
- 1:52Speaker 2: should join forces and actually make sure these two aren't
- 1:58Speaker 2: just covered for their meals and lodging and transportation. Imagine
- 2:04Speaker 2: that getting a bill for being transported by SpaceX down
- 2:07Speaker 2: to Earth after being second nine months.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Now, that would not work.
- 2:11Speaker 2: But they should push for new regulations that say, well,
- 2:16Speaker 2: if there's something that happens where these where nationnaut is
- 2:19Speaker 2: stranded for more than their stay, they get overtime.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Now.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I've been to the Jefroposal Lab in Pasadena, California. I
- 2:30Speaker 2: love my time there. For the week I visited with
- 2:33Speaker 2: the Adjacent Project almost twenty years ago, by the way,
- 2:36Speaker 2: that's hard to believe, and we did.
- 2:40Speaker 1: The whole Mars Rover replica and all that.
- 2:44Speaker 2: So I have a bit of a soft spot for
- 2:45Speaker 2: NASA and for what they're doing with the space exploration.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But even for them, we're paying their tax.
- 2:56Speaker 2: You know were our taxes are going into NASA as
- 2:59Speaker 2: an agency, shouldin our taxes be used better than saying, well, no,
- 3:04Speaker 2: we're not gonna give you overtime, holiday or weekend pay
- 3:07Speaker 2: for a stay that was nine.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Extra months in space. Okay, And this has become a
- 3:15Speaker 1: big story.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Because according to Newsweek, they only got five dollars on
- 3:27Speaker 2: top of each day stuck in space.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Five dollars. Ryan, Okay, this is ridiculous.
- 3:34Speaker 2: My producer Ryan Pagano PAGs perspective its to we go today. Uh,
- 3:40Speaker 2: it's it's awful. I'm just stunned about as stund as.
- 3:46Speaker 2: There's some of these number fifteens knockoff a one seed today.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I don't know if that's gonna happen, but we'll see
- 3:51Speaker 2: in the tournament as.
- 3:52Speaker 1: That's already underway.
- 3:54Speaker 2: But I had to write, I had to podcast about
- 3:57Speaker 2: this because someone should say, give these people their pay,
- 4:05Speaker 2: and if not, maybe Sonny and Butch sue NASA for
- 4:10Speaker 2: more pay. Maybe human rights violations or labor rights violations.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 4:20Speaker 2: It's just exhausting that we keep paying for these iniquities
- 4:29Speaker 2: like astronauts stuck in space and there's no pay for that,
- 4:35Speaker 2: only five dollars a day more if you want to
- 4:41Speaker 2: have new generations of astronauts and space explorers, help them
- 4:46Speaker 2: have one leg up bias saying, you know what, if
- 4:48Speaker 2: there's an emergency situation, we will pay you as much
- 4:51Speaker 2: as we need to to make sure you are okay,
- 4:56Speaker 2: and that their rehab facility gets paid for as well.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Because remember, now they're gonna have to be rewiring their
- 5:03Speaker 2: bodies and rebuilding their bodies a little bit after being
- 5:06Speaker 2: stuck in space for nine months. So why not NASA,
- 5:13Speaker 2: why not Elon? Why not President Trump team up? Make
- 5:18Speaker 2: it fair for these astronauts who spent nine extra months
- 5:21Speaker 2: in space?
- 5:25Speaker 1: Pay them, for God's sakes, One.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Soto gets US seven hundred million dollar contracts oh Tani
- 5:33Speaker 2: seven hundred million dollar contract, and these astronauts can't get
- 5:38Speaker 2: fair share, fair pay for being stuck in space.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Steve Cohen, why don't you pitch in to help them out?
- 5:46Speaker 1: Why not? I mean you just keep seven hundred million
- 5:48Speaker 1: to what you could dole out some more, right, right
- 5:50Speaker 1: or better yet?
- 5:51Speaker 2: The new Boston Celtics owner, because it just came out
- 5:53Speaker 2: this morning, I've really got to get.
- 5:56Speaker 1: The name right off the top of my head. But
- 5:57Speaker 1: I saw that too.
- 5:58Speaker 2: The largest sale in North American sports history to this point.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yes, the Celtics one billion dollars, the Celtics.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Being sold with none of my bingo card in twenty
- 6:06Speaker 2: twenty five.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But it wasn't for me.
- 6:09Speaker 2: But here we are, so all these big investors have
- 6:13Speaker 2: big tech people and Elon who brings them down from.
- 6:18Speaker 1: The ISS.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Certainly you could do better than give them five dollars
- 6:23Speaker 2: a day as a conglomerate, right, help them have one
- 6:28Speaker 2: leg up on coming back to earth. Literally, some people
- 6:34Speaker 2: have to come back down to earth mentally, but this
- 6:36Speaker 2: is a literal coming back down to earth. So let's
- 6:39Speaker 2: help them have one leg up as they get their
- 6:43Speaker 2: feet on the ground. I'm Alex Garrett more to come
- 6:47Speaker 2: on this network, but I had to just rent on
- 6:49Speaker 2: this for a minute because it was insane. It is
- 6:51Speaker 2: insane that just.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Five dollars a day, five dollars.
- 6:56Speaker 2: A day, no overtime, no holiday, no nothing else. I
- 7:03Speaker 2: actually expect a lawsuit coming, right, Ryan. I mean, if
- 7:06Speaker 2: you're lucky, you can get a value meal McDonald's every
- 7:09Speaker 2: day for that.
- 7:09Speaker 1: There you go, five dollars a day in US dollars.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Mind you with all the inflation that's been going on
- 7:17Speaker 2: in this country. I mean, my god, it's a lot
- 7:20Speaker 2: to cover their Who's going to cover their price of
- 7:22Speaker 2: eggs at this point, So you know, it's just a lot.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And I hope that as these asmats to get their
- 7:28Speaker 2: feet on.
- 7:28Speaker 1: The ground, NASA, Trump and Elon can get their can.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Get can help these folks have one leg up back
- 7:37Speaker 2: on Earth. We'll be back with more in a bit
- 7:43Speaker 2: on Alex Garrett's One Leg Up Network.
