West Virginia State University celebrates Katherine Johnson Day, honoring the trailblazing mathematician and alumna whose groundbreaking NASA work inspired the film Hidden Figures. Graduating at 18 with degrees in math and French, Johnson’s legacy lives on through the university’s Katherine Johnson Scholarship, awarded this year to five outstanding female STEM students — Natalyia Sayles, Alisha Suhirthataratnasingam, Sierra Scott, Aubrey Turner, and Lyra West.
