- 0:19Speaker 1: a little off.
- 0:21Speaker 2: There's something not quite right with this guy. But it's
- 0:24Speaker 2: actually pretty cool. So this is Gil. This is part one.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna break down his interview into three parts. This
- 0:30Speaker 1: is the first part. I'll go for about thirty five
- 0:34Speaker 1: minutes of that and then you guys can hear.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It out.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Roman Podcast check it out.
- 0:42Speaker 4: But Joe Wigan Experience Train My Day, Joe.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Rogan Podcast by Night all day.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I'm not what's cracking?
- 0:52Speaker 5: Oh man, my back just now, it's just fantastic.
- 0:57Speaker 2: What is going on with your back?
- 0:58Speaker 3: You you have like you've had issues in the past, right,
- 1:01Speaker 3: We talked about that the last time.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Well, I was born scoliotic, you know.
- 1:04Speaker 5: Yeah, So it's like I bought just I just bought
- 1:07Speaker 5: my own penelong so I could click the ship.
- 1:13Speaker 2: All the devices away from it. You remember clicking on
- 1:20Speaker 2: the pen.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Yeah, Oh yeah, I'm a fidget, you know, so I
- 1:24Speaker 5: let me take everything off.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It's not good.
- 1:29Speaker 5: Oh yeah, born born slightly scolliotic, and then of course
- 1:33Speaker 5: I banged myself up over the years.
- 1:35Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Of course, what can you do when they do they
- 1:38Speaker 3: do anything other than surgery for people with scoliosis.
- 1:41Speaker 2: They do because I don't want to do surgery.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Once you start opening stuff up and fooling with it,
- 1:46Speaker 5: there's no going.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Back, especially the back. Yeah, backs are rough.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I've never met anybody that had like fusions or anything
- 1:53Speaker 3: where it turned out good.
- 1:54Speaker 5: Now, And like Hippocrates, you know, the father of medicine,
- 1:57Speaker 5: he said in any ailment, look first to the spine,
- 2:01Speaker 5: and it was like He's kind of right. It emanates
- 2:04Speaker 5: from the from the core.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Well, if your back is fucked up, everything's fucked up.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, no matter how strong your arms and
- 2:10Speaker 3: legs are, if your back is fucked up, you're you're
- 2:12Speaker 3: in trouble.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. Your brain, everything everything goes to hell. Well,
- 2:15Speaker 2: you're in pain all the time.
- 2:17Speaker 3: People with back problems like they can't think straight because
- 2:20Speaker 3: you're always like you know, it's always.
- 2:22Speaker 2: There's a gift in not thinking straight.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Tell me, tell me, well it actually takes you down
- 2:29Speaker 5: some pretty weird paths.
- 2:30Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Uh, if you're happy all the time, I don't know,
- 2:36Speaker 5: you don't have you don't have to strive to find
- 2:39Speaker 5: thoughts to make yourself happy. Right, So it's like it's
- 2:43Speaker 5: a good it's a good it's a good predisposition.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I think I agree to that.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I think being happy all the time is it's
- 2:53Speaker 3: kind of an unlikely scenario.
- 2:54Speaker 5: No, nobody is. Yeah, no, but we all want it.
- 2:57Speaker 5: You notice we all yearn for it. There's that's the
- 3:00Speaker 5: only thing we all want, right right, just happiness, little piece.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Well, it's also we're showing it like in you know,
- 3:08Speaker 3: television movies, we're shown happiness as this goal, like seek happiness. Sure,
- 3:15Speaker 3: should be happy all the time, happy, should never be upset.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Yeah, well it's not realistic, it's completely unrealistic. However, it's
- 3:23Speaker 5: nice to have those little journeys through art where you
- 3:26Speaker 5: can actually explore those things. You can explore your IDs,
- 3:30Speaker 5: you can explore happiness, and so you experience the opposite.
- 3:36Speaker 5: I look at situations around me, and I generally feel
- 3:39Speaker 5: pretty grateful from what some people go through. Shrateful, and
- 3:45Speaker 5: everybody's got their crap you know, but like this morning,
- 3:49Speaker 5: for example, I would be surprised if my home is
- 3:53Speaker 5: still there.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, we were just talking about that. The Palasades is
- 3:56Speaker 3: on fire. Yeah, my friend Tom Tom Saga has his
- 4:00Speaker 3: house is gone.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yeah, where he used to live. He sold it luckily. Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I have a son.
- 4:04Speaker 5: He's in a sort of volunteer fireburg at Milo. I
- 4:08Speaker 5: call him the mayor of Malibu and he's running around
- 4:11Speaker 5: and I asked him, how's things looking there?
- 4:12Speaker 2: Milo. He says, not good, Pops. He says, your neighborhood.
- 4:15Speaker 5: And he sent me a video of my neighborhood and
- 4:18Speaker 5: it's in flames. It looks like an inferno.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Do you think this will get you out of California? Finally?
- 4:25Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Maybe you know where are you gonna go?
- 4:28Speaker 5: Oh?
- 4:28Speaker 2: I don't know. I got a place in Costa Rica.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I love it. Yeah, Costa Rica's nice.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I bought there many years ago. And yeah, it's
- 4:35Speaker 5: it's in a real nice spot. It's not too touristy
- 4:38Speaker 5: or you know, dirt roads, so it's.
- 4:40Speaker 2: All nice off the beaten. Does it feel safe out there?
- 4:44Speaker 5: Pretty safe? I think, look it, no place is safe.
- 4:47Speaker 5: I mean, you've got the Darryang down there. You know,
- 4:51Speaker 5: it's kind of in the what's the next country down
- 4:54Speaker 5: Panama and you and and there's this no man's land
- 4:57Speaker 5: where the Colombians come through, and it's like, you know,
- 4:59Speaker 5: all kinds of dirty dealings in the jungle with you know,
- 5:02Speaker 5: who knows, you know, drugs and mules and you know.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so.
- 5:10Speaker 5: You know it can be dangerous, and I've heard of
- 5:12Speaker 5: danger happening there, you know. You hear about somebody getting
- 5:16Speaker 5: chopped up by a machete. And Costa Rica is actually
- 5:18Speaker 5: it's actually a cool place because it never had a
- 5:22Speaker 5: culture of death like a lot of the Central American
- 5:26Speaker 5: countries did. They have a culture of death, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 5: even Mexico. I mean they used to you know, tear
- 5:32Speaker 5: people's hearts out and all that sort of stuff. Aztecs
- 5:35Speaker 5: were like the Romans. The minds were like the Greeks,
- 5:37Speaker 5: but they all sort of dabbled in some stuff. Costa
- 5:41Speaker 5: Rica always had a policy where they it was like
- 5:45Speaker 5: the Switzerland of Central America. They emphasized education and health
- 5:50Speaker 5: and everybody's literate. And it's kind of interesting in that way,
- 5:55Speaker 5: but it deals with its own little troubles.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Yeah country, you know, but anywhere down in that part
- 6:02Speaker 3: of the world. It's just like there's so much sketchy
- 6:06Speaker 3: shit going on all around you.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, there can be. Yeah, yeah, one.
- 6:10Speaker 5: Has to be forewarned, forearmed all that, you know.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So I have a nice place down there.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I have some friends that have a place in Mexico,
- 6:18Speaker 3: and I'm always like, don't you ever worry.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I work in Mexico.
- 6:23Speaker 5: A couple of times I was down there and it
- 6:25Speaker 5: was it was in Veracruz and apparently, you know, people
- 6:28Speaker 5: were rolling heads into bars and stuff like that, you know,
- 6:32Speaker 5: rival gangs and stuff. And they said, I go for
- 6:35Speaker 5: a walk, you know, and they'd say, you're crazy going
- 6:39Speaker 5: for a walk.
- 6:39Speaker 2: You'll get kidnapped. I said, I'm not going to get kidnapped.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I'm the guy that pays.
- 6:44Speaker 5: You're going to get kidnapped, and I'm not going to
- 6:46Speaker 5: pay your mansom.
- 6:48Speaker 2: It's like.
- 6:51Speaker 5: I never felt insecure in that way. And you know
- 6:55Speaker 5: this something's gonna happen. It's gonna happen. Yeah, you know,
- 6:58Speaker 5: if your number's up.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I know.
- 7:00Speaker 5: I used to watch guys who do what I do
- 7:01Speaker 5: for a living, and they have a phalanx of bodyguards
- 7:05Speaker 5: around them, you know, and like for security and stuff,
- 7:10Speaker 5: and I used to have that stuff for a little while.
- 7:12Speaker 5: But yeah, it doesn't make any difference. You're gonna be okay.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Or not or not right until you're not till you're not.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And everybody's gonna be okay until they're not.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 5: I got into dodgy situation one night and I act
- 7:25Speaker 5: you crazy?
- 7:26Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, what happened? If you act crazy?
- 7:29Speaker 5: Everybody leaves you alone, especially if you are a little crazy.
- 7:34Speaker 5: You know, they know you're in a stress mode, so
- 7:37Speaker 5: you actually get angry. If I feel like I'm threatened,
- 7:41Speaker 5: I get angry, which is what happens, and then you
- 7:44Speaker 5: get really in people's faces and they think.
- 7:46Speaker 2: This guy's crazy.
- 7:48Speaker 5: But all the old cultures thought that, like when there
- 7:50Speaker 5: were people traveling across the Great Plains that go west,
- 7:53Speaker 5: you know, if you acted nuts, they'd leave you alone
- 7:55Speaker 5: because they didn't want your evil spirits.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Ah, So what happened with you? Nothing? They left me alone.
- 8:01Speaker 2: But where was this? Oh man, I was in a
- 8:03Speaker 2: bad neighborhood.
- 8:06Speaker 5: I was. It was when I first got into La
- 8:10Speaker 5: and I was to go to dinner with Costa Gobros.
- 8:13Speaker 5: He was a Greek director. I went the wrong way
- 8:19Speaker 5: and it was before they had you know, phones with
- 8:21Speaker 5: like right, you know, all that stuff. So life in
- 8:24Speaker 5: the car. I pulled into a side street. The sun
- 8:27Speaker 5: was going down, and as I got out of the car,
- 8:32Speaker 5: I thought, oh, I got to fix this muff I
- 8:33Speaker 5: can't just drag it. People started coming from houses and
- 8:39Speaker 5: they came up to me, and I saw them coming
- 8:42Speaker 5: in the rear view mirror, and I jumped out of
- 8:45Speaker 5: the car and got in their.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Face, and I said, what the fuck do you want?
- 8:47Speaker 5: Because I thought I felt threatened, right, And and then
- 8:51Speaker 5: guy said, man, I'm just looking for some money.
- 8:53Speaker 2: You got any money? So I was being mugged, and
- 8:56Speaker 2: it was.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Like, I thought, I'll think about it when i'm fucking finished.
- 8:59Speaker 5: Like you know, I opened the trunk, and this is
- 9:02Speaker 5: the weird part, Joe, I will never quite understand this.
- 9:07Speaker 5: I opened the trunk to see what I could find
- 9:09Speaker 5: to help me put the muffler back on, and sitting there,
- 9:12Speaker 5: the only two things in the back of the trunk
- 9:15Speaker 5: was a pair of wire cutters and a coat hanger.
- 9:20Speaker 5: It's exactly what I needed. And I don't know why
- 9:22Speaker 5: I was there. That's weird, isn't it.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's very weird. So you use the coat hanger to
- 9:27Speaker 2: wire up your muffler. YEP, I cut a piece of wire,
- 9:30Speaker 2: wire the muffler up.
- 9:31Speaker 5: The whole time, more guys are coming Jesus and they're
- 9:33Speaker 5: standing behind me, and I'm feeling like oh and anyway,
- 9:37Speaker 5: I get up. I finished, the muffler slammed, and I'm
- 9:41Speaker 5: acting mad and crazy the whole time, and I think
- 9:43Speaker 5: this guy's nuts. And I get back to the car
- 9:45Speaker 5: and my wife gives me a handful of cash and
- 9:48Speaker 5: I thought, what's this. She says, it's just wives the
- 9:50Speaker 5: ones give it to him.
- 9:51Speaker 2: So I threw it and drove off.
- 9:53Speaker 5: But it was like it was looking Harry for a minute,
- 9:56Speaker 5: and you never know what year was this.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Oh my god, back in nineties.

- 11:11Speaker 2: So things are more dangerous now, I think they are? Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 2: I think so for sure. Yep. Yeah.
- 11:16Speaker 3: We were just talking about the wildfire situation and how
- 11:20Speaker 3: crazy it is that they spent twenty four billion dollars.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Last year on the homeless.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, and what are they spent on preventing these wildfires?
- 11:29Speaker 2: Zero? Zip zip.
- 11:32Speaker 5: And in twenty nineteen, I think Newsom said, you know,
- 11:34Speaker 5: I'm going to take care of the forest and maintain
- 11:36Speaker 5: the forest and do all that kind of stuff.
- 11:37Speaker 2: He didn't do.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Anything, didn't do anything. And then on top of that,
- 11:40Speaker 3: they cut the water off.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yeah that's right. Yeah, it's all funny.
- 11:43Speaker 5: And then I think all our tax dollars probably went
- 11:45Speaker 5: for Gavin's hair jail. I don't know, but it's like,
- 11:48Speaker 5: you know, it's sad. It's like the place is just
- 11:50Speaker 5: on fire.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Well, the whole state is just so poorly managed. It's
- 11:54Speaker 3: so it's so frustrating and confusing. And then he gets
- 11:58Speaker 3: on TV and pretends like everything is great and California
- 12:02Speaker 3: is the best, we have the best date, we have
- 12:04Speaker 3: the most amazing economy, and like, you're out of your
- 12:07Speaker 3: fucking mind, dude, you've ruined this state, personally ruined it.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Well, it's the same team that was up in San Francisco,
- 12:13Speaker 5: and we came down to LA and they're doing what
- 12:15Speaker 5: they did in San Francisco. And yeah, San Francisco is
- 12:18Speaker 5: kind of like apocalyptic now, you know. Yeah I went
- 12:20Speaker 5: there and this it's like people, you know, homeless, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 5: it's just it's a mess.
- 12:24Speaker 3: It's just unbelievable that society can crumble that quickly.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Really is unbelievable. It doesn't take long. No, Yeah.
- 12:32Speaker 5: I read a book once by Jared Diamond called Collapse.
- 12:35Speaker 2: You never read that?
- 12:36Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, crazy right. It says all the things you
- 12:39Speaker 5: need for a civilization to cave in and collapse, and
- 12:43Speaker 5: a lot of the things are present. All those earmarks,
- 12:46Speaker 5: the precursors of a collapse, they're present in our time.
- 12:50Speaker 5: So it's it's an interesting observation. Yeah, and we're no
- 12:54Speaker 5: smarter than our grandparents.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I don't think. Well.
- 12:56Speaker 3: That brings me to one of my favorite movies of
- 12:58Speaker 3: yours is Apocalypto. You know, when the Mayans were running
- 13:02Speaker 3: things like who could have ever thought when they had
- 13:04Speaker 3: such an incredibly sophisticated society, unbelievable construction, like the stuff
- 13:08Speaker 3: that they had built that one day you just walked
- 13:11Speaker 3: through there and there's nothing, nothing, nothing, and nobody.
- 13:13Speaker 5: In fact, there's something, because it's interesting. Somebody was flying
- 13:18Speaker 5: by what they thought was a volcano in the thirties,
- 13:21Speaker 5: some buzzboy, and he thought.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Hey, that's somebody built that.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Wait a minute, there's four by eight foot bricks, that's
- 13:29Speaker 5: not that's man made. And it is literally the biggest
- 13:33Speaker 5: pyramid in the world. It's bigger than the ones in
- 13:35Speaker 5: Egypt and it's in Guatemala.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we talked about that the other day. Yeah, it's
- 13:39Speaker 3: a recent discovery, right.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Well, not that reason. I was maybe twenty years ago.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I visited.
- 13:46Speaker 5: I went down there with the with the archaeologist, the
- 13:50Speaker 5: guy named Richard Hanson, who's from Idaho or someplace, and
- 13:54Speaker 5: he's down there with his family's been working tirelessly for
- 13:57Speaker 5: like thirty years trying to extract this pre Classic city
- 14:01Speaker 5: from the jungle.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And there's not a bunch of tourists.
- 14:04Speaker 5: All the pyramids in Tikal would fit inside the one
- 14:09Speaker 5: big pyramid in Elmirador.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Really.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a monster. And so that tells you that
- 14:15Speaker 5: the pre Classic civilization was bigger and grander and more
- 14:19Speaker 5: sophisticated than the civilizations that came after it. Yeah, pretty interesting.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Well, it is unbelievable. How like when you the accounts
- 14:28Speaker 3: of like people that visited Mexico and visited the Aztecs,
- 14:32Speaker 3: like what the markets looked like and how insane it
- 14:35Speaker 3: was and how gorgeous it was, and then just yeah, disease, Yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 3: disease or I don't know if it was disease or what.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I think the people were pretty dissatisfied.
- 14:44Speaker 5: It would have been hard for Cortes with his limited numbers,
- 14:49Speaker 5: to actually take over a civilization like that unless they
- 14:52Speaker 5: kind of happened upon a civilization that was pretty dissatisfied
- 14:56Speaker 5: with the way things were going.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think they had people to help them
- 14:59Speaker 2: sort of.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Michelle, when when you're making a movie like Apocalypto, I mean,
- 15:05Speaker 3: that's crazy undertaking. You're making an entire movie where there's
- 15:08Speaker 3: no English in it at all, and it's a blockbuster. Yeah, Yeah,
- 15:11Speaker 3: it's cool. It was fun. That's one of the best movies. Man,
- 15:14Speaker 3: it's a fucking great movie.
- 15:16Speaker 5: Well, because I think it's scary because nobody's speaking your
- 15:19Speaker 5: language and you're looking at indigenous peoples who you and
- 15:25Speaker 5: because they're not speaking the language, you totally kind of
- 15:27Speaker 5: buy it, and you can buy the horror and the
- 15:31Speaker 5: primal nature of the story you want to tell.
- 15:34Speaker 2: And really it's just a.
- 15:35Speaker 5: Series of fears one after the other, you know, being
- 15:40Speaker 5: chased by you know, scary guys, or eaten by wild
- 15:44Speaker 5: animals or you know, hit by blowgun, you know, blow gun.
- 15:48Speaker 5: It's all like a series of these things. But I
- 15:51Speaker 5: think basically what I was doing was trying to talk
- 15:55Speaker 5: about our time now and the civilization that we live
- 15:59Speaker 5: in and how close so we to collapse, and what
- 16:01Speaker 5: are the things that lead to collapse. You know, it's
- 16:04Speaker 5: environmental stuff, it's human sacrifice. Yeah, I mean we do
- 16:10Speaker 5: that kind of we do. Yeah, yeah, we do.
- 16:14Speaker 2: We just dress it up. Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 3: When you find out medications are killing people and they
- 16:18Speaker 3: keep prescribing them and they do it for money, that's
- 16:21Speaker 3: kind of sacrifice. When you find out that wars are irresponsible,
- 16:25Speaker 3: they're not just wars, not just they're there for money.
- 16:29Speaker 5: We send our young people over there to die, sometimes
- 16:33Speaker 5: for good reasons, sometimes for not. I mean, I I
- 16:37Speaker 5: love this. I love the warrior, I do. I love
- 16:39Speaker 5: the warrior, but I hate the war.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yeah, and we hate we hate an unjust war. Yes, absolutely, Yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Anyway, it's a yeah, it's a myth, but the human
- 16:54Speaker 5: sacrifice aspect is alive and will in our society.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I think it really is, is just dressed up in
- 17:01Speaker 2: a different way. Yeah.
- 17:04Speaker 5: Yeah, rhetoric around it, but they've always been able to
- 17:06Speaker 5: justify it, like an apocalypto, was like, yeah, so the
- 17:10Speaker 5: crops will be better.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Hey, we'll just you know, yeah kill yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 5: And then I had all these people come out of
- 17:16Speaker 5: the woodwork, Hey we're we're archaeologists and scientists, and that
- 17:19Speaker 5: never happened. So there's this revisionism about it too, that
- 17:22Speaker 5: it didn't happen. But there are accounts from the time
- 17:25Speaker 5: where yes, people did witness these things. And and of
- 17:30Speaker 5: course I had a bunch of battery of archaeologists and
- 17:33Speaker 5: scientists and professors on my own that say, yeah, well,
- 17:36Speaker 5: this stuff did happen, and here's the here's the you know,
- 17:39Speaker 5: the depictions of it in paintings and images, and you know,
- 17:42Speaker 5: so it's like.
- 17:43Speaker 2: It did happen.
- 17:44Speaker 3: So when you when you set out to make a
- 17:47Speaker 3: movie like that, like what, first of all, what brings
- 17:50Speaker 3: you to that?
- 17:51Speaker 2: Did you get the script first? Like? What? It was
- 17:54Speaker 2: it an idea that you had in your head?
- 17:56Speaker 5: It was it just came from in here. And I
- 17:59Speaker 5: was working on something and a buddy of mine said, so.
- 18:02Speaker 2: What do you want to do next?
- 18:03Speaker 5: I said, ah, man, I want to direct something, and
- 18:05Speaker 5: I always want to direct a Chase film.
- 18:08Speaker 2: He said, what kind of Chase I said, a foot chase.
- 18:11Speaker 5: He said what. I said, yeah, people chasing you. I
- 18:14Speaker 5: mean there's something kind of primal and scary about a
- 18:17Speaker 5: foot chase. And I think in order to have a
- 18:19Speaker 5: foot chase, he can't have a society where there's any
- 18:21Speaker 5: kind of cars or anything like that. Otherwise you have
- 18:24Speaker 5: a car chase. But I want to film a foot
- 18:25Speaker 5: chase like it's.
- 18:26Speaker 2: A car chase. And he said, oh, he said, what
- 18:29Speaker 2: are you thinking.
- 18:30Speaker 5: I said, well, I'm thinking if you go back before
- 18:33Speaker 5: Columbus discovered America, you know, and it's like people assumed
- 18:39Speaker 5: that Columbus discovered America and then life began.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I said, I want to.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Know what was happening right before he got there, before
- 18:45Speaker 5: he got there. And I said, so, I had this
- 18:47Speaker 5: idea that you see all this stuff going on and
- 18:50Speaker 5: there's no time period on it, and then all of
- 18:52Speaker 5: a sudden.
- 18:52Speaker 2: You date it by the arrival of Europeans.
- 18:55Speaker 5: And I said, it's kind of like the rod Serling,
- 18:58Speaker 5: you know, Planet of the Apes. It's like it's kind
- 19:01Speaker 5: of a cool, cool ending. And he said, oh wow,
- 19:04Speaker 5: And he said, where do you think Columbus landed? I said,
- 19:07Speaker 5: why do Let's look so I looked up in the
- 19:09Speaker 5: first peoples he encountered were Mayan trading canoes off the
- 19:12Speaker 5: coast of Hondurath, and I thought, cool, what was happening
- 19:17Speaker 5: in Honduras, you know, and you look at these towns
- 19:20Speaker 5: and pyramids and temples and stuff at that time, and
- 19:24Speaker 5: then the story was born from there. And of course
- 19:28Speaker 5: then we read the book by Jared Diamond Collapse. I
- 19:30Speaker 5: read the Mayan Bible, the Popo Vu, and you know,
- 19:33Speaker 5: tried to delve into what they believed and.
- 19:37Speaker 2: What their civilization was like.
- 19:38Speaker 5: And they had concepts as we do, of heaven and hell,
- 19:43Speaker 5: of punishment or reward. You know, it was a little different,
- 19:47Speaker 5: quite a bit different.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Actually. In fact, when I went down to.
- 19:52Speaker 5: The archaeological sites and Hill Mirrodor, they dug something up
- 19:56Speaker 5: and it was like, well, what is it?
- 19:57Speaker 2: And they said, we don't know.
- 20:00Speaker 5: There was this carved image in the stone of this
- 20:02Speaker 5: Mayan warrior drinking and an earspool, and it was like
- 20:07Speaker 5: so they dug further and further and it went like
- 20:09Speaker 5: twenty six meters down and it was the entire story
- 20:14Speaker 5: of the popol Vu, of the twins going into hell
- 20:17Speaker 5: and getting their father's head and swimming back and it's
- 20:20Speaker 5: this crazy story.
- 20:22Speaker 2: And it.
- 20:24Speaker 5: Kind of dated that book because I think it was
- 20:28Speaker 5: almost three thousand years old. This this mural, this carving, so
- 20:33Speaker 5: it tells you that the story is pretty old. And
- 20:35Speaker 5: they thought initially it was probably back in the thirteen hundreds,
- 20:38Speaker 5: but this confirmed that it was at least two thousand,
- 20:41Speaker 5: six hundred years old something.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Wow.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Yeah, so it's pretty cool to be there when they're
- 20:45Speaker 5: digging that stuff up.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Is mind blowing. Well, they're missing so much of the
- 20:50Speaker 3: Mayne history. It's a very interest on some coffee.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I want the water. That's water in the water.
- 20:55Speaker 3: They're missing so much of the Mayan history, you know,
- 20:57Speaker 3: because everybody's gone. But one of the you ever see
- 21:02Speaker 3: the very bizarre carving where it looks like there's a
- 21:04Speaker 3: guy who's sitting in a cockpit of a spaceship. Yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 3: looking through some sort of an eye thing. Yeah, they
- 21:11Speaker 3: got some weird stuff. It's like weird where there's fire
- 21:15Speaker 3: underneath the chair, Like what is that?
- 21:17Speaker 5: They got dudes that look like Europeans. They have these
- 21:20Speaker 5: guys with red beards and helmets and stuff. Yeah, it's
- 21:23Speaker 5: like these Phoenician guys who probably traveled over there early on. Yeah,
- 21:30Speaker 5: probably maybe in the sixth century or something like that,
- 21:33Speaker 5: so they it wasn't that long a boat ride, so
- 21:35Speaker 5: they probably went over there and made contact and they
- 21:38Speaker 5: thought they were gods or something, and then they went
- 21:40Speaker 5: away again and they said, well, wait for them to
- 21:41Speaker 5: come back, and of course they did come back, but.
- 21:45Speaker 2: It didn't work out the same.
- 21:47Speaker 3: No, no, no, Well, there's so many accounts of you know,
- 21:51Speaker 3: people visiting the especially when you get into the Amazon.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Sure, oh, I don't know about the Amazon. Oh my god,
- 21:57Speaker 5: let's tell me about that.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Well, first of all, the Amazon you used to be
- 22:00Speaker 3: filled with people, and most of the Amazon is man made.
- 22:04Speaker 3: The jungle in the Amazon.
- 22:06Speaker 2: In agriculture, yeah wow, yeah, okay.
- 22:08Speaker 3: The jungle in the Amazon. They didn't even know this
- 22:11Speaker 3: until fairly recently, and they now know from flying over.
- 22:15Speaker 2: They use light light ar, which is this light in
- 22:18Speaker 2: any radar.
- 22:19Speaker 3: So when they use this laser radar shit, when they
- 22:23Speaker 3: fly over it, they're finding all these grids and pathways
- 22:26Speaker 3: and cities in the jungle. So the jungle had consumed
- 22:29Speaker 3: all these cities. I think there was millions and millions
- 22:32Speaker 3: of people living in the Amazon, and that Europeans came
- 22:35Speaker 3: over diseases. Everybody dies, jungle consumes the city. People come
- 22:39Speaker 3: back two hundred years later looking for it, like the
- 22:41Speaker 3: Lost City of z like that that story, right, they
- 22:45Speaker 3: go back to look and there's.
- 22:46Speaker 2: There's nothing left. Yeah. Guns, germs and steel.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, great, yeah, Wow, that's fascinating.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I don't have to look into that thing. And we're
- 22:56Speaker 2: going through all those things right now. Guns, germs and steel.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Oh yeah like that. Germs, Yeah, germs I had. I'm
- 23:03Speaker 5: just just on the tail end of some hideous flu
- 23:06Speaker 5: that was gone.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I don't know if you got the H five in
- 23:09Speaker 2: one or whatever the flat is, I don't know what
- 23:11Speaker 2: the hell. Yeah, I've had that.
- 23:12Speaker 5: That was the swine thing. I had swine flu one time.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I had that two thousand and nine. Yes, yeah, it
- 23:17Speaker 2: was around in Yeah, yeah it was.
- 23:19Speaker 3: It was an epidemic, a pandemic, whatever you want to
- 23:22Speaker 3: call it. But it didn't have the same sort of
- 23:24Speaker 3: press releases that COVID did.
- 23:26Speaker 5: Sure I got the swine I acted more like a pig.
- 23:29Speaker 1: You know.
- 23:29Speaker 2: That's terrible, terrible, wallowing in my own mud. So I
- 23:35Speaker 2: like Flight Risk. It's fun movie.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Oh it's a whole you know, it's a it's a hoot.
- 23:38Speaker 5: I mean, I think the first thing you got to
- 23:40Speaker 5: do with any film, and I think it's incumbent upon
- 23:43Speaker 5: all directors artists to entertain first in some fashion. Even
- 23:48Speaker 5: if it's a heavy story, you have to find some
- 23:51Speaker 5: some aspect of it that entertains. And I think this
- 23:56Speaker 5: for entertainment's sake is just fun. And it's quick. And
- 23:59Speaker 5: I'm not sitting objecting you to four hours of like
- 24:02Speaker 5: watching Autism dry. Right, It's like it's like, you know,
- 24:06Speaker 5: it's eighty five ninety minutes.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's a good time. Yeah. And Mark is insane. Yeah,
- 24:11Speaker 2: he's great in it. He plays a good psycho. Oh,
- 24:13Speaker 2: he's a psychopath. Mark's got a good dark side.
- 24:16Speaker 5: There's some there's some dark stuff there that he was
- 24:19Speaker 5: able to draw from. And every now and then he'd
- 24:23Speaker 5: let it out. I can't even repeat some of this stuff,
- 24:25Speaker 5: he'd say. In fact, we had to cut most of
- 24:27Speaker 5: it out. It was like really sick, but we hint
- 24:31Speaker 5: at it.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Anyway, when you make a movie now, I mean, you've
- 24:36Speaker 3: had such a career. When you make a movie now,
- 24:38Speaker 3: like what motivates you at this point in your life,
- 24:41Speaker 3: Like how do you how do you decide let's hit
- 24:44Speaker 3: the green light on this one.
- 24:45Speaker 5: Yeah, there are things that speak to me, and and
- 24:48Speaker 5: they speak for a for a long time.
- 24:51Speaker 2: It's a I remember when I was a kid.
- 24:55Speaker 5: In high school, I was studying English and well where
- 24:59Speaker 5: the English English come from? And they talked about Wow,
- 25:02Speaker 5: it came from this old guttural German, old nourse that
- 25:06Speaker 5: the Vikings brought across.
- 25:07Speaker 2: And I was thinking, well, that's cool.
- 25:08Speaker 5: The Vikings, you know, And then immediately I start thinking, man,
- 25:11Speaker 5: somebody should make I want to make a film about Vikings.
- 25:15Speaker 5: And they only speak in old Norse. Because if they say,
- 25:20Speaker 5: if they say, you know, if they speak English, all
- 25:23Speaker 5: of a sudden, right you're not buying it. They're speaking
- 25:26Speaker 5: some guttural language, you're sort of scared by them. And
- 25:29Speaker 5: it's like, that's scary to me. And then I said
- 25:31Speaker 5: to myself, I'm seventeen years old. Why am I thinking
- 25:34Speaker 5: about making films about Vikings. I don't know anything about
- 25:37Speaker 5: making films and not much about Vikings, So why the
- 25:39Speaker 5: hell am I even thinking about that? But that was
- 25:42Speaker 5: something that was early on, was like a drive, I
- 25:45Speaker 5: guess to sort of depict things like that. So I
- 25:48Speaker 5: did films in other languages, in Mayan and in Aramaic,
- 25:52Speaker 5: in Latin, you know, And there's the power to that.
- 25:57Speaker 5: I noticed when I was young. I used to go
- 25:58Speaker 5: and watch a lot of foreign films, and I watch
- 26:01Speaker 5: French movies, right, or German or whatever they were, Spanish.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I'd watch them and I think, Wow, the acting is
- 26:07Speaker 5: great in those and it seemed better because of the subtitles,
- 26:10Speaker 5: because yeah, we're believable somehow, I don't know.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Right, because you're not you're not hearing insincerity in their
- 26:18Speaker 3: voice because you don't even understand what they're saying.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you just feel the emotions and the words.
- 26:23Speaker 5: And it also it has to take your attention because
- 26:25Speaker 5: you have to do another function. You have to read, Yeah,
- 26:28Speaker 5: which is another thing that sort of maybe blinds you
- 26:31Speaker 5: to the flaws in the filmmaking perhaps, so you know, hey.
- 26:35Speaker 2: It's a great trick. Yeah, it's obfuscation.
- 26:37Speaker 3: There's a thing about reading it while you're watching, and
- 26:40Speaker 3: it's like an added element of concentration, you know, like
- 26:44Speaker 3: subtitled movies. You feel like you're a smarter person watching
- 26:48Speaker 3: a movie where you're reading it as well.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Yeah, and there's yeah, there's something about the written word
- 26:52Speaker 5: that's like, it's a pretty interesting thing to throw into
- 26:55Speaker 5: the mix. I know when I first started it was
- 26:57Speaker 5: kind of confusing, but then I got really good at it,
- 27:00Speaker 5: and I think especially with something like what the passion
- 27:04Speaker 5: that I did, the written word was very important because
- 27:07Speaker 5: it was, you know, you got all those books the Bible.
- 27:10Speaker 5: You know, you've got the different Gospels and stuff that
- 27:12Speaker 5: people are quite familiar with. Half the time, they didn't
- 27:15Speaker 5: even need to read the subtitles. They could look at
- 27:17Speaker 5: it and know what was going on.

- 28:35Speaker 3: That was a crazy movie because it was a great movie,
- 28:39Speaker 3: but it seemed like there was resistance to that movie.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, there was that, which I've thought was
- 28:45Speaker 3: very strange. There was like Hollywood resistance to that movie,
- 28:48Speaker 3: like people didn't like that you were making it.
- 28:50Speaker 5: It seemed like, yeah, there's a lot of there was
- 28:52Speaker 5: a lot of opposition to it, and I don't know.
- 28:56Speaker 5: It's I think if you ever hit on that subject matter,
- 29:00Speaker 5: you're gonna get people going, because of course it's big
- 29:05Speaker 5: subject matter, and it's like, you know, and my contention is,
- 29:09Speaker 5: you know, when I was making it, it was like,
- 29:11Speaker 5: you're making this film, and the idea was that we're
- 29:14Speaker 5: all responsible for this, that his sacrifice was for all mankind,
- 29:21Speaker 5: and that for all all our ills and all all
- 29:24Speaker 5: the things in our fallen nature. It was a redemption. So,
- 29:29Speaker 5: you know, and I believe that, you know, I actually am.
- 29:33Speaker 5: You know, I was born into a Catholic family. I'm
- 29:35Speaker 5: very Christian in my beliefs, you know, so I do
- 29:38Speaker 5: actually believe this stuff to the full. So depicting that
- 29:42Speaker 5: was an honor, but it was also, yeah, you.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Got you got the daylights beat out of you for it.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Yeah, because there's there's resistance, first of all from secular Hollywood, where,
- 29:52Speaker 3: for whatever reason, Christianity is the one religion that you're
- 29:56Speaker 3: allowed to disparage. Christianity is the one religion where people,
- 30:03Speaker 3: all these progressive, open minded, leftist people, they'll embrace all
- 30:08Speaker 3: these different religions until it comes to Christianity, and for
- 30:11Speaker 3: whatever reason, that represents like white male. You know, whatever
- 30:15Speaker 3: it represents colonialism, you know whatever, you know, whatever it
- 30:20Speaker 3: represents its negative.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Yeah, sure, it's gotten a bad rap, and they people
- 30:26Speaker 5: do feel free to beat up on it.
- 30:27Speaker 2: M hm.
- 30:28Speaker 5: Even I do when I see it's like, you know, when.
- 30:31Speaker 2: It's not fair, I think it's off right, Like.
- 30:35Speaker 5: You know, when they appoint some cardinal and some diocese
- 30:38Speaker 5: and he's been covering up for like people who are
- 30:41Speaker 5: child molesters. Yes, you know, like Theodore McCarrick or Cardinal
- 30:44Speaker 5: World or those kind of guys.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I mean, well the pope, yes, absolutely, Benedict not Benny.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Well, he was covering up. But like, yeah, so is
- 30:52Speaker 2: the guy now is he really?
- 30:54Speaker 3: Well yeah, yeah, it's it's not great. I thought he
- 30:58Speaker 3: was like the more progressive Pope's very progressive.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Yes, but he's covering up for stuff as well. Well,
- 31:03Speaker 2: they all are.
- 31:04Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's a dark institution in a lot
- 31:07Speaker 3: of ways because it's history, you know.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Well you know the institution.
- 31:11Speaker 5: It was instituted by Christ, you know, but that doesn't
- 31:14Speaker 5: mean that it can't be flawed. And there's a school
- 31:17Speaker 5: of thought that says it isn't what it purports to
- 31:21Speaker 5: be anymore. It's it's moved away from what it was
- 31:26Speaker 5: intended to be in what it is almost There's a
- 31:31Speaker 5: guy called Bishop Vigeno who says it's a counterfeit parallel church,
- 31:37Speaker 5: and it's it's running an entirely different religion. I actually don't.
- 31:44Speaker 5: I don't adhere to a post Concilier church.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I adhere. Can you define what that means? Okay?
- 31:52Speaker 5: There was an event that happened in the in the sixties. First,
- 31:56Speaker 5: there was an event in the Vatican where they elected
- 32:00Speaker 5: John the twenty third Pope, right in nineteen fifty eight.
- 32:03Speaker 5: I was two years old, right, he was elected. And
- 32:08Speaker 5: it was a very funny thing that happened in the conclave.
- 32:11Speaker 5: You know, usually there's white and black smoke that goes
- 32:14Speaker 5: out of the chimneys to tell you we.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Have a pope. You know, Habba must pop them, you know.
- 32:19Speaker 5: And the white smoke came out and everybody cheered and
- 32:23Speaker 5: they went crazy, and then about a half an hour later,
- 32:26Speaker 5: black smoke came out. That never in history has that happened,
- 32:29Speaker 5: That the white smoke came out and then the black smoke.
- 32:32Speaker 3: So white smoke means we found a new pope. Black
- 32:35Speaker 3: smoth means no.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Pope, that's right.
- 32:37Speaker 5: They'd have boats, or there'd be one reason or another
- 32:39Speaker 5: that have around in the conclave, and black smoke would
- 32:43Speaker 5: come out many times, many times, maybe maybe it would
- 32:45Speaker 5: take two weeks, but never was it known that white
- 32:48Speaker 5: smoke came out.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Then black smoke came out. So what was the scenario.
- 32:54Speaker 5: That somebody was elected and that maybe something else happened
- 33:00Speaker 5: and he was pushed aside and someone else was put in.
- 33:04Speaker 2: So it was power struggle, some kind of power struggle.
- 33:07Speaker 5: And of course the man who came out was a
- 33:10Speaker 5: man called Angela ron Colly, and he was John the
- 33:13Speaker 5: twenty third. Now it's interesting to note that never had
- 33:16Speaker 5: a pope taken the name of another pope ever before
- 33:19Speaker 5: in history, but this man took the name of a
- 33:23Speaker 5: known anti pope from the fifteenth century that Cosmo de
- 33:27Speaker 5: Medici put in there as his own man. I'll get
- 33:30Speaker 5: you in the chair and then everything will be rosy,
- 33:32Speaker 5: you know, everything will go good for business, you know whatever.
- 33:35Speaker 5: He was putting him in there for some corrupt reason,
- 33:38Speaker 5: And there have been corrupt men in that place before.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I mean there's.
- 33:41Speaker 5: Alexander the sixth and Julius the second, the sixth's the fourth.
- 33:44Speaker 5: I mean, some of these guys are you know, they're
- 33:47Speaker 5: not saints. So he took the name of a known
- 33:52Speaker 5: anti pope from the fifth century, who actually said, yes.
- 33:55Speaker 2: I'm an antipope.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Sorry, I'm not the right guy, because there was more
- 33:58Speaker 5: than one, and he confessed to be and he wanted to,
- 34:01Speaker 5: you know, square things with with the Almighty I guess,
- 34:05Speaker 5: so he confessed to being an anti pope, and so
- 34:09Speaker 5: he took the same name as that guy, John the
- 34:11Speaker 5: twenty third. So it's interesting, don't you think, I mean,
- 34:15Speaker 5: why would he do that?
- 34:16Speaker 3: Well, whenever you have that kind of power, like I'm
- 34:19Speaker 3: sure you've been to the Vatican, right, Yeah, it's stunning.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Yes, it's huge. It's so crazy.
- 34:24Speaker 3: When you're walking around you see just the massive just
- 34:28Speaker 3: a dollar value in.
- 34:30Speaker 2: The art that they possess. Yeah, it's fucking insane, it's crazy. Yeah.
- 34:35Speaker 5: And you know it's a very small country. It's a country.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a country inside of a small city. Yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 3: because Rome's not the biggest city. No, and then it's
- 34:46Speaker 3: got a country inside the city. Yeah, with walls around it. Sure,
- 34:51Speaker 3: and you can't extradite people.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty weird. How convenient.
- 34:55Speaker 5: Yeah, even rat Singer. He didn't drive from the Vatican
- 35:00Speaker 5: to the other place. He flew ooh, and it was
- 35:03Speaker 5: only a little while because who knows why.
- 35:06Speaker 3: I well, he was wanted, yes, yeah, I mean he
- 35:10Speaker 3: had done. One of the things that he had done
- 35:12Speaker 3: was he had moved a priest that had molested a
- 35:16Speaker 3: hundred kids and he moved him to some new place
- 35:20Speaker 3: where he molested deaf kids.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, boy, yeah, yeah, I know.
- 35:25Speaker 3: That's the dirtiest, most evil practice that the Catholic Church
- 35:29Speaker 3: has been accused of.
- 35:30Speaker 2: I think so in many institutions as well.
- 35:33Speaker 5: But that is a very bad one, and I think
- 35:37Speaker 5: it's all part and partial of the same.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Corruption they crept in.
- 35:42Speaker 5: And when you asked, what's the difference between pre Vatican too,
- 35:45Speaker 5: so Vatican Two happened, and of course they they took
- 35:49Speaker 5: the church and they reformed it and they changed things
- 35:53Speaker 5: in it, and it didn't necessarily agree with everything that
- 35:57Speaker 5: went before it to that point, yeah, you could find
- 36:02Speaker 5: it agreed with itself. But all of a sudden you
- 36:05Speaker 5: got something else, to the point where now I mean,
- 36:11Speaker 5: I mean, we got a pope that brought a South
- 36:13Speaker 5: American idol into the church.
- 36:15Speaker 2: The worship.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Really he did the pacha mama. He bought the South
- 36:20Speaker 5: and he got it.
- 36:21Speaker 2: I don't I don't know what that is.
- 36:22Speaker 5: It's a it's kind of like a South American god,
- 36:25Speaker 5: pacha mom.
- 36:26Speaker 2: That's why would he do that? Good question? But he did.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Did he have an explanation for why he did it?
- 36:34Speaker 5: Yeah, it's kind of a weasel worded thing of like, oh,
- 36:36Speaker 5: all religions are just as good as one another.
- 36:38Speaker 3: But you know, if that's his contention, it shouldn't be
- 36:41Speaker 3: the pope. No, I mean happed to be the pope.
- 36:43Speaker 3: If say, all religions are just as.
- 36:45Speaker 5: Good, we all worshiped, you know. So, yeah, that is
- 36:48Speaker 5: a pacha mama.
- 36:49Speaker 2: There you go.
- 36:50Speaker 5: So he brought that in, yeah, into the Vatican. Then
- 36:53Speaker 5: the higher he, the hierarchy even worshiped that. They had
- 36:56Speaker 5: a ceremony round it outside.
- 36:58Speaker 2: What well, that constitutes a possible to see.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Yeah, that's an apostasy, all right, worshiping false gods.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Yeah, that's number one on the Mosaic hit list. Yeah,
- 37:07Speaker 5: Moses goes up on the mountain, he comes back down.
- 37:09Speaker 5: People are worshiping in a golden calf.
- 37:12Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:12Speaker 5: It's it's that Yeah, so you can't do that. And
- 37:17Speaker 5: for me, that's a departure from Yeah, you know, that's
- 37:22Speaker 5: called apostasy. It's a falling away from it. And the
- 37:26Speaker 5: very nature of apostasy means that you have to be
- 37:29Speaker 5: part of it to fall away from it. So it's
- 37:32Speaker 5: an inside job. Ah.
- 37:35Speaker 3: So what do you think there's a motive behind these things?
- 37:39Speaker 3: I don't think you know, probably what do you think
- 37:44Speaker 3: it is?
- 37:46Speaker 2: But it isn't good. I think.
- 37:47Speaker 5: Look, I think we're looking at a world where and
- 37:52Speaker 5: this is the in the next film I'm going to
- 37:53Speaker 5: I'm going to try and tackle this question that they
- 37:58Speaker 5: are a big realm, spiritual realms. There's good, there's evil,
- 38:05Speaker 5: and they are slugging it out for the souls of mankind.
- 38:10Speaker 5: And my question is, why are we even important, little old,
- 38:14Speaker 5: flawed humanity? Why are we important in that process where
- 38:18Speaker 5: the big realms are slugging it out over us? And
- 38:21Speaker 5: I think there's bigger things that play here, and institutions
- 38:28Speaker 5: that purport to touch on the divine are necessarily going
- 38:31Speaker 5: to be affected by that slugfest that's.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Going on between good and evil, right, and and sometimes
- 38:38Speaker 3: good gives up ground.
- 38:40Speaker 5: Yeah, and maybe not on purpose. You know, maybe there's
- 38:43Speaker 5: some deception involved, or self deception. Collect every morning when
- 38:47Speaker 5: I wake up, I actually pray that I don't deceive
- 38:50Speaker 5: myself because it's like, you know, your mind is a
- 38:54Speaker 5: very funny place. I mean, there's I've always said, you know,
- 38:59Speaker 5: it's your second thought and your first action, that that
- 39:02Speaker 5: you're responsible for your first thought, throw it away, you know, right.
- 39:08Speaker 3: But upon consideration, the second thought is what you're responsible for. Yeah,
- 39:12Speaker 3: that's the difference between first degree and second degree murder.
- 39:15Speaker 2: There, you go, right, right, there's the first degree.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Like I'm plotting this out, and we we take that
- 39:21Speaker 3: into consideration when we sentence people. Sure, like if you're
- 39:24Speaker 3: a person who just you're all of a sudden, you're
- 39:27Speaker 3: in a fight with a guy you didn't expect it,
- 39:28Speaker 3: and you stab him and kill him, second degree murder. Yeah,
- 39:32Speaker 3: But if you're like, I'm going to kill this motherfucker.
- 39:33Speaker 3: I'm gonna find out where he is, I'm gonna go
- 39:36Speaker 3: get him first degree.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Sure.
- 39:37Speaker 5: I planned a lot of murders in my life, you know,
- 39:39Speaker 5: and you will have, Yeah, in your head, you plan
- 39:41Speaker 5: the murder and you think, well, that's not a very
- 39:43Speaker 5: good idea.
- 39:44Speaker 2: But I think I could get away with it, right,
- 39:46Speaker 2: there's the second thought.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that is interesting that we take that into consideration
- 39:51Speaker 3: that we do. Like, if you've had time to think
- 39:53Speaker 3: about it, you're a different kind of person than person acts.
- 39:56Speaker 2: In the act. Sure, you're in your act of passion.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Yeah, and I found this out. I actually spent a
- 40:03Speaker 5: long time in my animal brain, which is a very
- 40:06Speaker 5: horrible place to be.
- 40:08Speaker 3: And when you say that, what do you mean by
- 40:10Speaker 3: you spent a long time in your animal brain?
- 40:12Speaker 5: You're in flight or fight right all the time. You
- 40:16Speaker 5: don't even sleep. It's like really not a good place
- 40:20Speaker 5: to be. And if anybody looks at you the wrong way,
- 40:22Speaker 5: you want to bite him. Yeah, and sometimes you say
- 40:25Speaker 5: and do things that are socially unacceptable. And you know,
- 40:29Speaker 5: I went and got a brain scan by this guy
- 40:31Speaker 5: called Daniel Ahman, who's this brain guy. He's against all
- 40:34Speaker 5: psych meds and stuff, but he thinks like, let me
- 40:36Speaker 5: have a look at your brain, and you put a
- 40:38Speaker 5: radioactive tracer in me.
- 40:41Speaker 2: And to photograph my brain. Yeah.
- 40:45Speaker 5: He works a lot of football players and guys have
- 40:47Speaker 5: got brain injury.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Man, it's thirsty in here.
- 40:51Speaker 5: But so he looked at my brain and he was like,
- 40:56Speaker 5: and he opens the file and I'm in there with
- 40:58Speaker 5: the guy and he looks up and he goes, are
- 41:00Speaker 5: you okay? And he go first, now, first, he went
- 41:05Speaker 5: like this, huh. And I said what anyway? Are you
- 41:08Speaker 5: okay like that? And I said, yeah, I think so.
- 41:11Speaker 5: And he came over and he sat next to me,
- 41:14Speaker 5: but very slowly and cautiously, and he says, no, you're not.
- 41:17Speaker 5: And I said, what do you mean. He says, you
- 41:19Speaker 5: got the worst case of PTSD I've ever seen. And
- 41:22Speaker 5: I said, you mean, like even worse than guys in
- 41:25Speaker 5: war and shit like that. And he goes, yeah, and
- 41:28Speaker 5: he says, you're not okay.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Jesus Christ.
- 41:33Speaker 5: And I was like, and I started, I started a
- 41:36Speaker 5: well up, you know, like.
- 41:37Speaker 2: No, no, I'm not. That's oh boy. And it was.
- 41:42Speaker 5: He had a very miraculous and great remedy for it,
- 41:50Speaker 5: which was to eat a bunch of fish oil, vitamin
- 41:53Speaker 5: B complex and get into a hyperbaric chamber for forty sessions,
- 41:58Speaker 5: but make sure you do at least two or three
- 41:59Speaker 5: a week. It fixed my head, really, yeah, it got
- 42:04Speaker 5: me out of that wacky place, you know.
- 42:06Speaker 3: So it was something to do with nutrition and oxygen.
- 42:10Speaker 5: And and your brain is neuroplastics. You explain neuroplasticity to me,
- 42:15Speaker 5: and how okay you could get brain damage and like
- 42:18Speaker 5: holes in your head and you know, cancushon. I used
- 42:20Speaker 5: to play rugby. I've been knocked out on the field
- 42:23Speaker 5: a couple of times.
- 42:24Speaker 2: You know.
- 42:24Speaker 3: That explains a lot, you know, yeah.
- 42:27Speaker 2: And so.
- 42:30Speaker 5: It actually you can actually heal the holes in your head.
- 42:33Speaker 2: It look like Swiss cheese. It's like horrible.
- 42:36Speaker 5: There's a lot a lot of these football players get
- 42:37Speaker 5: like that too, the poor guys. I mean they get
- 42:39Speaker 5: depressed and they yeah you know, oh.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Yeah, hormonal imbalance, pituitary glens fucked up.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Not producing testosterone or human growth hormone correctly, that's correct. Yeah, depression,
- 42:51Speaker 3: low energy.
- 42:52Speaker 5: Yep, irrit ability, irritability when to kill somebody, and it's
- 42:56Speaker 5: like terrible.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and uh and it's just not so
- 43:00Speaker 2: really acceptable. Plus I don't want to go to prison. Yeah. Well,
- 43:02Speaker 2: the rugby I bet that's a giant factor. Yeah.
- 43:06Speaker 5: I played from like thirteen to probably in my late teens.
- 43:11Speaker 5: And you get knocked around.
- 43:12Speaker 3: At Yeah, there's no evans or bots about that, no helmet,
- 43:16Speaker 3: no you know, well, people don't realize, like even shots
- 43:19Speaker 3: to the chest caused brain damage. Yeah, yeah, that's what
- 43:22Speaker 3: people are realizing now.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Yeah sure, I mean, you know, and like I'm addicted
- 43:26Speaker 5: to the UFC, right, I love it.
- 43:29Speaker 2: But I know that these guys are I feel kind
- 43:32Speaker 2: of sorry for him. I do as well.
- 43:34Speaker 5: And one of the guys I knew one of the
- 43:37Speaker 5: guys fairly well, and usually I'm pretty immune to like,
- 43:42Speaker 5: but like he was in there and he was fighting
- 43:45Speaker 5: against Volanovskid was Brian Ortega, and he was getting his
- 43:48Speaker 5: ass handed to him. In one fight, he almost got
- 43:51Speaker 5: him a couple of times, but.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Like, yeah, I almost submitted him twice.
- 43:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, But because I knew Brian, it was
- 43:56Speaker 5: like my child. It was like my son was in there,
- 44:00Speaker 5: started crying and it got to me. I was like,
- 44:02Speaker 5: I should probably feel like this about all these guys,
- 44:04Speaker 5: but I don't know them as well.
- 44:06Speaker 3: It becomes a problem for me when I'm friends with
- 44:08Speaker 3: the guy. And then also I see when they're on
- 44:10Speaker 3: the tail end of their career and they can't take
- 44:13Speaker 3: shots anymore, and then when you talk to them, you
- 44:15Speaker 3: recognize the speech patterns are slurring.
- 44:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I met Muhammad Ali when he was in
- 44:20Speaker 5: the chair, you know, and man, I don't know if
- 44:25Speaker 5: I could even tell the story. What he said was
- 44:27Speaker 5: so funny, but he was still in there and he
- 44:30Speaker 5: was still a little devil, and he was like and
- 44:33Speaker 5: he was still he was still fucking with people, of course,
- 44:36Speaker 5: but it was like, I can't tell this.
- 44:39Speaker 2: He can't know, man, okay, footnote it tell me later.
- 44:43Speaker 2: I'll tell you later.
- 44:43Speaker 5: It is funny. But it was my assistant, you know,
- 44:46Speaker 5: it is. What he said to my assistant was like
- 44:48Speaker 5: so funny and and then he said it and we
- 44:52Speaker 5: all were like whoa.
- 44:53Speaker 2: And then I looked at him and he was just laughing.
- 44:56Speaker 2: He was laughing his ass off.
- 44:58Speaker 5: So he was still all in there, but it was hard.
- 45:01Speaker 5: I guess he had the damage of being punched.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Trauma related Parkinson's disease.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yes, very common for fighters.
- 45:08Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah it's not.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Hey, this is Gil. Thanks for listening. Please like, subscribe, share,
- 45:13Speaker 1: and comment. Like I told you, he was a weird dude,
- 45:16Speaker 1: but he's very interesting. So stay tuned for part two.
- 45:19Speaker 1: It'll be coming up soon later.
