If Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Spanish, a couple of dollars a month over at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo genuinely keeps these episodes ad-free and coming. It's a small thing that makes a big difference. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps us keep cooking up these lessons. Alright, back to the kitchen. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're learning some useful kitchen verbs and items. Let's start with the most important one: Voy a cocinar la cena. That means 'I'm going to cook dinner.' Luna: Voy a cocinar la cena. I'm going to cook dinner. That sounds good. I can actually use that tonight. Lucas: Exactly. Say it with me: Voy a cocinar la cena. Luna: Voy a cocinar la cena. Lucas: Perfect. Now, to cook dinner, you might need a pot. That's una olla. So you'd say, Necesito una olla. 'I need a pot.' Luna: Necesito una olla. I need a pot. That's useful. I always need a pot. Lucas: You do. Let's try a quick scene. Imagine I'm in the kitchen and I say, Voy a cocinar la cena. Necesito una olla. Luna: Okay, so you're cooking and need a pot. Got it. Let me try: Voy a cocinar la cena. Necesito una olla. Lucas: You're a natural. Now, when you're actually cooking, you might be chopping vegetables. That's Estoy cortando las verduras. 'I am cutting the vegetables.' Luna: Estoy cortando las verduras. That's a mouthful. Let me try: Estoy cortando las verduras. Lucas: Great. And if you need the knife, you'd ask, ¿Dónde está el cuchillo? 'Where is the knife?' Luna: ¿Dónde está el cuchillo? I like that. It's a handy question. So I could say, Estoy cortando las verduras. ¿Dónde está el cuchillo? Lucas: Exactly. And once everything's ready, you'll want to set the table. That's Vamos a poner la mesa. 'Let's set the table.' Luna: Vamos a poner la mesa. Oh, I remember 'poner' from somewhere. It means 'to put.' So we're putting the table. That makes sense. Lucas: Right. Now let's put it all together. I'll say a phrase, and you tell me what it means. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Voy a cocinar la cena. Luna: I'm going to cook dinner. Lucas: Necesito una olla. Luna: I need a pot. Lucas: Estoy cortando las verduras. Luna: I'm cutting the vegetables. Lucas: And ¿Dónde está el cuchillo? Luna: Where is the knife? Lucas: Perfect. Now let's do a little role play. I'll be the cook, you be my helper. I'll say, Voy a cocinar la cena. Luna: Okay, then I'll say, Necesito una olla. Actually, wait, you need the pot. Let me get it. Necesito una olla. Lucas: Good. Now I say, Estoy cortando las verduras. Luna: And I ask, ¿Dónde está el cuchillo? Lucas: I point to it, and then I say, Vamos a poner la mesa. Luna: So we're setting the table. That's a full kitchen scene. I love it. Lucas: You did great today, Luna. Let's do a quick recap. First, Voy a cocinar la cena. Luna: Voy a cocinar la cena. Lucas: Necesito una olla. Luna: Necesito una olla. Lucas: Estoy cortando las verduras. Luna: Estoy cortando las verduras.
