- 0:00SPEAKER_02: It's a special mini let's stick together here brought to you by Y1 Hockey.
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: Yup is out.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: He's uh taking a week off.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: He's a very busy man.
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: He's got a lot of shit going on.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: So we've uh bought you a special treat.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: We've got the return of James Aubrey from episode one, and we are joined by Ollie Payne.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Hello, Phil.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Hello to both.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Who talks first?
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, likewise, nice to be uh asked again.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean we are we decided me and um Orbs a couple of weeks ago, we uh we are batting around cool wall ideas, and we realized there is so many questions for cool wall ideas in relation to goalies, so we thought we'd make this episode a little special.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: It is the goalie cool wall special.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: And before we even start, we can kick off with a plug.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: We always do a shameless plug because the Y1 home shooter game is uh is out now on sale, and well, before we tell you what it actually who's on the front of it, it's uh taking your skills to the next level from the comfort of your own home with a limited edition Y1 flick velcro goal game designed to make training fun.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: And the goalkeeper you are trying to beat in the Y1 home shooter is our very own Ollie Payne.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: How do you uh what do you what have you made of that, Ollie?
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: I think it's hilarious.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Um, Phil, you sent me the video, and uh I was just like, Well, I'm getting one of those.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, no, it's it's yeah, it's super cool.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know if the thing works and stuff.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: I'll leave you that that up to you guys.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: But um, I have said, I think I commented on someone's Instagram when I saw it, I was like, the gap between the legs does need to be bigger.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you know, does your family wanna wanna shoot Ollie Payne this Christmas?
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Well, you log yourself onto Y1 hockey and uh go and buy yourself a home shoe.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Orbs, have you seen this?
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: I have seen it, yeah.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Um I've actually got one on order.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Um because I I what I just want to score past pain even in the holidays.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Even when everyone, even when everyone's on their Christmas break, we just want to just make yourself feel good, score past pain and continue my scoring record, as Oliver will tell you, that I've had in the last two days.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Fantastic.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: It has taken two minutes for Orbs to mention that.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: We're talking we're talking about training, yeah?
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the context is Aubrey scored an absolute worldie uh on Wednesday morning against me, right over my shoulder.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Most people don't celebrate at training, but I did see this.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: Um I don't expect it from you, but I actually thought it was well worth celebration.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's it's a rare thing me screwing a goal, especially one that good.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: So little celebration channeled my inner David Condon.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Not quite a full celebration, um, but but a good one nonetheless.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was a lot of fun.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: The how'd you like that one was a little bit not needed, but you know, um, if that's a little celebration, then uh we'll go with it.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: How would you like those apples, John?
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: It's a good one, even before the start, where you're like, okay, it's people we all know the person we think.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: Like, if you think about someone when you go training and who's the celebrator at training, as as Orbs just already said, it's Dave Condon for us.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: He's the he's a huge celebrator at training.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: Is would the would that that could easily come up in the cool wall?
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: But before we start, Orbs has been in charge because it is his cool wall.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: He's he's been in charge of putting official uh categories for the cool wall, which uh which he's gonna talk us through, and then we're just gonna get crack straight straight crack in with the goalie call wool.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, nice.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Um, I think in recent weeks the our our sort of headers haven't been that clear.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: So Phil's asked me to uh just really settle them out.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: I actually need a bit of help with the top one, which is up for discussion, but at the very bottom currently is in the bin, which is just the most uncool of uncool.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Following that, you have seriously uncool, which you know is fairly self-explanatory.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Ahead of that we have meh, which is you know, it's not uncool, it's not particularly cool, it's fine, we're okay with that.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Um, then very standard category of just cool, you know, which which which is is a good place to be.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Um, can't imagine many of the goalie things going in there this evening, and then ahead of that um is the top header, which in previous iterations of this has always been sort of like a sub-zero, but sub-zero to me sounds incredibly uncool.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Um so I was caught sort of flirting around with seriously cool, but also just nice.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: We shouldn't really get to ask Payna this, but Payna, what do you think?
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: You're a goalie.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I think if Orb said nice to me, I would take that more as a compliment than him going, that was seriously cool.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I mean, I'm the only nitpicking I've got is if you've got nice and cool, they both sound kind of similar levels.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: Ice cold, it was sub-zero or ice cold, or were they sub-zero, sub-zero, which you've put in your own head as ice cold.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, I messed that up.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: I have one question.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Um, I've got a couple that I'm like, I think they're seriously uncool when some people do them, but actually quite cool when others do them.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Well, we can we can make them we'll be the we'll we'll be the judge of that, Oliver.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's not like a mare category.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Well, if you hit them with us, we'll let you know.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we made we made this very clear last time.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's not how useful this is, it's it's purely on the cool rating.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: So we'll see.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: We'll see how we go.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: I mean, can we go with like ice cold for now?
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: And maybe you can call it nice, and then we'll we'll see how we go.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: So we've got in the bin, seriously uncool, meh, cool, and ice cold.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm sure you when he's back, we'll have have something for us in the way of seriously cool, so we can leave that open for him.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: And you've both already done something that you doesn't do, which is actually prep for this pod.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Peino sent me a a long WhatsApp with things going in.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Orbs, you've already come up with your stuff, so congratulations to you both.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: But do you want to dive in?
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: Peino, do you want to put one put one out there first?
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: So I've I've got one that I am pretty uh yeah, set on it being seriously uncool is going mental at a player when they make a save or concede a corner down the runner side.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: So this is like Pittish Michael-esque we're talking.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Pickford, I think, gets away with it, but I think in in the hockey world, I just don't think it's good luck.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Don't think it's good luck.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: So you're talking you make a worldie and then you just instantly bollock the nearest defender to you.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: Is that an example?
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and especially corners, having to go at a bloke who's wearing plastic knee pads when you've got all the foam on is is a questionable way to go.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're actually one of the lesser offsetters of the goalie.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: If we're getting really nerdy right now, you take you put less stock into the number one runners than most goalies, so you probably get a little bit more respect from the outfielders.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: Orbs looks orbs looks dubious about that.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: No, I'm I'm I'm just wondering, obviously, with you know, playing as already talking about the running lines.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: How do you feel about right runner and then uh it just flying past you?
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, thank you for that, James.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Um I've had a fun half of the season.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Um, we're gonna need some context because I don't know, I don't know what's going on here.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Well, the first corner that I saw I was watching, obviously, my good friend Oliver, um, his first big game, and so they basically have stuck against good flickers, the keepers are trying to offset the other way, and the runner sort of running the other side um to block the goal.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: It's a bit of a cheap move to stop them opening up the the side that they want to flick.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'll sort of he ran it.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: Uh he moved across the other side.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: The runner ran the traditional line, and Jansen just flicked it in the gut, and and Payno had not moved.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: We should have said it the same part, actually.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Blew into the rigging.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: The introduction that Olli's moved to Amsterdam this year.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: It's been a it's been a big move.
- 9:45SPEAKER_02: Um, he's probably, I mean, if we call it a spade a spade, conceded more goals than he'd like to concede.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen too many that have been your fault, Ollie.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: But do you want to maybe touch?
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, I've had a couple.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: I've had a couple.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: I've given it a good go, Phil.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Um, no, it's a very exciting team that I've joined.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Um, and it's very exciting going forward, and there's a few things that we will tighten up second half of the season.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: You sound like a League Two manager, a football manager.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Just it's a game of two halves.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: Tighten up a few things here and there.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: Okay, what are you saying with going?
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, going mental at a player for me is just it's just like mayor.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: I'm like, okay.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: No, I think it's uh seriously uncool.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: I'm not having that, yeah.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: You know, if he makes a save, I'm kind of happy with it.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: I don't really care what he does afterwards.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, fine.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Mere's fine for me.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't feel that's probably on that one.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm happy to go with wait.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Well, actually, Phil, it's your podcast, mate.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: So we'll just go with that.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: All right, all right, next one.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna I'm gonna pull one out of the bag because I want to pull a big gun right off from the start.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: And um, we've got one of our own GB keepers does this shouting wide when someone hits it wide.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: So Toby Reynolds Cottrell, goalkeeper for GB in Wales, loves going what just just for no reason at all, other than the ball is going past his goal.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: Um, and he sometimes even does it when it's going in the goal.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: So, you know, this this there's tricky dilemmas there, but I I'm I'm a not a fan at all, and I would like that one to get in the bin.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's actually my favourite one.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: A call of wide and it going in the bottom corner.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Um Pinner himself, very, very uh strong with that one, um, especially in the latter stage of his career.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I I'm I'm going call of wide in the bin.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: There's no need for it.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Ollie, are you glad you came on the podcast now?
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, actually, I within so I thought I was gonna come on here and be like slagging goalies, but actually within two points, I'm now getting defensive.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Um, I actually I don't mind that.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Don't mind it.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Um and I'll tell you why, because we get enough shit when things go in, why not give a little bit back?
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Is that what it is, though?
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: Is that what I I've never really asked Toby that I will like why why do you do it?
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Because it's not really giving stick back, it's just shouting wide.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: So I've asked him because sometimes it doesn't even get to wide, it is just and that's just the noise he makes, and he says it's just like a tick.
- 12:52unknown: Okay, yeah.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, me and Orbs have put it in the bin.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: You've kind of said it's meh.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: We'll probably stick within the bin, I would say.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: But I see where this is going.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Um, Orbs, have you got some of these?
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: Or yeah, yeah, I've got quite a few actually.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: All right, then you you you hit us up with the next one.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: I think I'll start with so the initial message that I got actually um from a good friend of mine, which sort of brought on the whole goalie topic was goalies whacking their pads.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: Uh he actually his actual example was after you score a goal, as in after we uh you know his team scores a goal.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Um but then obviously there is a bit of other pad whacking, which is a great term in itself.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I'm gonna stick with pad whacking after their team scores a goal.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Can we add in pad whacking like for a corner, you know, like just before the ball's injected?
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: Because I think if I'm honest, that's the worst timing and time type of pad whacking.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: Is is I've seen many a goalie do that to try and intimidate the flicker.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: And I've I I don't or when we can we can can we combine it with yelling out as fast as it's yeah, yeah.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: So I I also have down making lots of noise, like smacking posts, pads.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: I also had a right giggle when I wrote when I wrote a few of these because I do a lot of the ones that I think seriously uncool.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Um and yeah, so I also had that down as bad or uncool.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: I think we need to do we probably need to caveat this this whole segment with if you're a goalkeeper and you do any of these that are seriously uncool, don't stop just because we think they're uncool.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Keep going.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: No, I've got a home, I've got a home mana you here.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: You go, no, no, fuck that.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: You want to have a good hard look at yourself and you want to change what you're doing because it's uncool.
- 15:03unknown: Yeah.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: That is true.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: And the uptake of goalkeeping has gone through through the bottom.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: There are no more goalkeepers.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: So wait a minute, why don't we break them down?
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Whacking your pads when does it does Paina, would you change it if whacking your pads before a corner compared to whacking a pad when you've conceded a goal?
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Does that is there a difference there?
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: I think conceding a goal when there's like high emotion, I think you just want to hit something fair enough.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: I think when we score and corner, I I can see why that's annoying.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: I mean and the the call sort of ready, ready out as well.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it's it's a it's a tough.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: And again, a disclaimer, I've I've done a lot of the things that I'm slagging here.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Which which one's the worst?
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: So we've got like whacking your pads and ready, ready out.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: You've got maybe like the stroke where they're whacking the posts as well, like hitting the posts really aggressively.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: What what's the word?
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: I think that's less I think that's less uncool than the whacking of the pads.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: I also think that kind of there's a reason for that.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, like when they're making themselves look big, you're making yourselves look big when you hit the posts and stuff, don't you?
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: Which I kind of get that.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: But I mean, mine mine would be like that's meh, but like if you're whacking your pads and you're shouting ready, ready out.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: I'm probably putting that in the bin.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: I think I'm going seriously on cool with any form of noise.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: So I'm going meh.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Fine.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: I think.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you support your goalie solic.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Watch Payne not go for anything other below meh for the whole of this podcast.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: I'm wondering when we have our first like cool, that'd be nice.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, I've got a few.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: I've got a few.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: All these all these up next.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: So I've got I've got one that follows that quite nicely, and I I I put this down as leaning towards good, and it's generally having a screw loose.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Just goalkeepers having a bit of a streak.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think that's good because it adds something to the group, and definitely the stories.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: But the question is, is it cool?
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I would say I would say it's good to good to have a screw loose, yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: I honestly don't know how to comment on this.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: No, I'm not sure either.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: I I'm not sure many as many as you think have got a screw loose.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: I think just lucky I think a lot of you are quite unwell, but I wouldn't say screw loose.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: But you're not you know you when I think of real nut jobs, you and Mazzarello don't quite spring to mind as normal one and two.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: We're more of the normal ones, but what I would say is all a lot of the stories, like good stories that you hear from the past, have involved goalkeepers.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so you're talking about like we're we're categorizing into coolness whether or not you you know you're a good guy amongst the group.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: I always think that's offset with you just still being a goalie.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: So like I don't know.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: I don't know how to I don't know how to work this one out.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Some of the some of the stories I think well that you're alluding to are caused by having a screw loose, often the goalkeeper.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: And I I think a lot of those are quite cool.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: Um so I might be having to give you this one here, John.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: I'm now worried that the only good thing we're gonna come out from this podcast is goalies having a screw loose.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, well, we'll go with it.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: We'll let's put you down as cool.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: Well done.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: I don't it was a difficult one to to really argue against.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: My um my next one is in training where you guess which way a shot or drag flick is going before the shot or drag flick comes in, and then you save it really easily, and then you laugh at the player because this has only really come into fruition recently.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: But for you and Maz both do it, and I hate it with an absolute passion.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: Um, but you guys are so happy with yourself when you do it that I don't know.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: What would you say?
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: He's you've got such a big smirk on your face the whole time I was saying that.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm so pro it.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Only I think if you don't bite on it, I don't I think it it fizzles out, but you get so angry.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: As an innocent bystander, I love what's in there.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay, and and it is it is very cool when they do it because it makes you incredibly uncool, Phil, when it happens to you.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, we're talking like if you're really working on your drag flicking and you're like, I'm gonna hit this spot and I'm gonna flick it as hard as possible, and just before it, the goalies aren't taking this completely seriously, and they just step a direction and just like kick it away really, really easily.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: It is pretty is pretty infuriating, which pro which I agree with you, Orbs.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: It probably does make it cool.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, all right, I've answered my own question.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: I I think for any young goalies out there listening to this podcast, I'd say two things don't do this in games, like don't guess, and two, probably don't listen to this podcast.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Solid advice I would go with.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: Yep, I agree, right?
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: Orbs, you're up next.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I'm gonna I've got one which is a bit more of a generic one, and then I've got a few like specific goalkeepers.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, then specific things that certain goalkeepers do, but I mean this is my last sort of generic one, and in recent times, I haven't seen it as much, but I remember this a lot growing up, and it's the goalkeeper who their kit breaks, right, in one way or another.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: Usually this would, you know, you think you'd get out a new bit of kit.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: What goalies do, and I think this is especially at club level, they just go to their bag, bring out the largest roll of black tape, and just start arts and crafting it, you know, just just putting that thing back together with if it if it's not quite right, more tape, you know, like we're we're we're creating things out.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Of tape here and I I used to just love watching it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: Um and and my opinion would be it's it's above cool.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Um but I'm happy for you to comment.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: I mean no, that's the first time I've I'm actually thinking that a goalie's cool and you've made it sound cool or so on to you, Ollie.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: I I mean I'm not gonna argue against something that you guys think's cool.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: I think it it is hilarious.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, yeah, no, no complaints there.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: You know, it's just that it's just that I remember Rob growing up at down at I'll give Hartford hockey club a shout out.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Um, dad's club still, and he was the first team goalie.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: You know, the strap broke, everyone thought, you know, I'll get another strap.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: No, just six layers of black tape wrapped around, you know, just just awesome viewing.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: It's when the the duct tape comes out.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Gotta love it.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Ollie, what's your next one?
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Um I've got I've got I'm unsure on this, so I think I know where you guys are gonna go with this, but I'm unsure.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Goalie's putting their saves on Instagram.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, I had this.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Highlight reels.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: Um I'm I'm okay.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: I'm okay with it if in context it's okay.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: So you lose 10-1 and you post uh like like loads of highlights you saving the ball, I'm not having it.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: And you know, like if you if you actually put a few of the goals you can see in there, I'm actually probably like, all right, you're sticking stuff out there.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: If you're only putting your own saves and nothing else, and you're posting it, I'm not having that at all.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Uh I would I'm not I'm not seeing many strikers putting their misses on Instagram.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Which strikers are putting their goals on Instagram?
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: Stuan Walker around your out.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: He's he's reposting.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: Is that exactly?
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: No, that's true.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have to weigh in here because I think there's a big difference between reposting your goals in games, like reposting, and but what a lot of these goalkeepers do, and this is where I have an issue, and this players are doing it as well, getting clips up from training, you know, and posting your good clips from training.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: So well done, you know.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: No one cares about training.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: I I'm not having that as anything other than in the bin.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: You know, you score a worldly in training.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: Wow, so it happens all the time.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm not having that in the bin.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: There's not a chance you're not putting that goal you scored against me yesterday.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: If if you think that I'm gonna log into Huddle, find the time where I score that goal uh against you, video it, and then put it on my Instagram, which gets very little traction as it is.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: There, you know, there's just no I've got much better things to be doing with my time.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: I think I think the only time I've ever done this is to send individual clips to people of me.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: So I've done it to Payner before.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: I've like sent him like clips of me being him, which is hilarious, but that's in an individual level.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: Or if my if I have done something really stupid in training, I have occasionally posted that on on Instagram of me doing something stupid.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: I'm not tro I'm not tr troll troughing, trolling, what trolling, trolling through, looking for clips of me doing great stuff.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm that's fine, that's fine.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: I don't mind that.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: Like a few years ago, saw his you know, break down of the corner.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: He went to hit a backhand and just drilled me square in the chest because I wasn't watching.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Stick that on great viewing, but not not goals, but to go back to your point of goalies doing this.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: There's actually so I put this down because there's a there's a Spanish lad, he's always on my explore page, and it but he puts up the goals as well.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: It's just it's good viewing.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Um fairness, gotta love the reason why I put unsure was I don't want to poo-poo young kids being proud of what they're working really hard for, and people being proud to put online that they've been working really hard and then they've made they're happy with what they're doing, right?
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: But it's when it starts affecting how people play, and then you see things like down the middle tipping over the bar with your legs higher than your head, that sort of stuff.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: That's where that's why I was unsure.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: It's a really good mess, isn't it?
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: Making the meal of the saves.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: Just to finish off on this one, then but I would say, you know, like the the goalie specific sessions, like the the guy that's been doing a bit with you recently, uh where he you know he's coming up the the net and you're doing all that stuff.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm here for that.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: I I enjoy watching that, yeah.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Agreed.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: There's a there's a there's a fine line, and but I think it's it's still a it's still a very solid line between you posting cool content of you doing stuff to make you better or to make the sport grow the sport and just showing off.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: And I think that's where you have to find your own individual line.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: And we will tell you if you want to, if you want to write in and and offer us your we'll I'm sure we'll give you your thoughts.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Or I'll we'll review the content.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: We'll review the content and we'll put you in either cool or we'll put you in the bin.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: So yeah, be be wary out there, goalies.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: Should we should we do a bit of a quick fire?
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: Uh Ollie, if you uh who's I don't know whose turn it is.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Uh it's not me.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: Someone else go.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh quickfire.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: The uh mix and matching of kit, different colours.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: They can't see you old, it's a podcast.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh yeah.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Uh no, thumbs down.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: Uncool.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: I yeah, agree.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: Uncool.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uncool.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: Go on, orbs.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: Give us a couple.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: Uh I've got the uh the I've written down oboe p head helmet.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: The new helmet that a lot of the goalies are wearing from Oboe.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: James Masarello strings to mind.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: I think uh Daniel Berg was wearing one, and uh our very own Carl Douglas as well have moved to the to the oboe pea head.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: You've already named it.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: It's a P head, so it's uncool.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: It is uncool.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: It's not quite in the bin, but it is uncool.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Yep, nothing to add that.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Can we add Ollie's ice hockey helmet or personalized helmets?
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Can we do a whole helmet quick section?
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: I I have personalized helmets actually down.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: So I think if you've got a Red Bull helmet, I can't help but think that is cool.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: Um the red the Red Bull helmet is going in the top category.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: There's the you know, like that's yeah, Red Bull is it's just instantly sub-zero, yeah.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: This is one that I had depending on the person, and also I'm in the process of personalizing one of my helmets, so I'm being very careful of what I say, right?
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: So, but but I think all of the listeners would want us you to tell us who's got a cool one and who's not got a cool one.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: Because I don't want to put you on the spot, but I'm gonna put you on the spot.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so a few that spring to mind.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: I think Toby's got a couple like Wales ones, and I think they're they're nice.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: I think subtle ones, nice.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Nice isn't the category.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's nice.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: It's cool.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sorry, it's cool, it's cool.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, I think ones with just general name and England, whatever, or whatever your club is, I'm going uncool.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: Like whose?
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, whose oh, I can't think of any off the top of my head.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, handy.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: But I think all the yeah, yeah, very, very um, so basically uh what I'm saying is I think designs, as long as they're not too ridiculous, like motor uh um motorcycle ones, I think cool.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: When it's just like name number, I think if you're gonna go through the effort, at least give it a little bit of swaz.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: What about um who was the old Aussie boys?
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: He had loads of stuff on his.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: I think Charter, he had one and he had one at one of the Olympics where he had all of the previous Australia Olympic goalies on the back.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: Is that is that cool?
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: I mean it's a nice touch, right?
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: That's you're not answering the question now.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: Don't do a Brendan, right?
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: I I'll I'll come out, I'll come out and just pull a youp out of the bag because I think this is important that we're honest here.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: If you were to ask me my thoughts on Australian goalies at any point in time, I would say they probably hit in the bin in terms of coolness, the vast, vast majority.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: I I I failed to think.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: I think Aussie goalies always going out their way to see how they could be more uncool.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: Would you have any takes on that?
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: I made some friends with Aussies last week.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: Simon Orchard, chat out, but I'm coming back at you.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: I think he'd agree with you, though, wouldn't he?
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: I hope so.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: I don't have a problem with them.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: It's not a problem.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying what I think is cool or not.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: It's not, it's not, you don't we're not asking you to to fight them.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: It's just are the helmets cool or not?
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would say I would say I'll I think yeah, I'll say yes.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: Ollie, I really didn't know that you might turn into Brendan on this on this uh episode, but Brendan would be proud of you.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: So for your third shout out, Brendan Orbs crack on.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: I've got uh again, I'll I'll go with my bit more generic one and I'll finish off because I've only got two more.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: I've got goalie sticks, as in do you remember the ones like they had that curve in them?
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: Are they cool?
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: No, I I mean it's not uh again, it's not the topic of whether they they make sense or not, because practically they're whoever designed that needs shooting.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Um but but are they cool?
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I like seeing a good old goalie stick.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: I I think I think very cool, especially in this day and age.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, if you see one of them now, yeah, agreed.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: I think I would think you're cool.
- 33:52unknown: Yep.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: Uh Ollie, have you got any more before we wrap up?
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've I've got a seriously uncool one giving out outfielding advice.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Alright, let's do it.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh, it's such a good one.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just save the ball, mate.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Your job doesn't change, you just stand there.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: I like it, I do like it though.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Every goalie has his time or her time where they think now's my time to give the outfielders advice.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: And here's some advice for you goalies.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: Stay in your lane, keep saving the ball.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: You if you do that, everyone will be happy.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: If you start giving outfielders advice, no one will like you.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: Is that fair?
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: In the bin.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: In the bin.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: I I then I then have two, and I think one's gonna be yeah, pretty easy, general, just smelling it.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Of the kit, not the goalie.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: Doing yourself a disservice here, mate.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: No, no, as in obviously, like people, the the people are probably very clean, absolutely fine.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: The the smell you just can't get rid of.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: So I'd say that.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna do you a favor here, mate.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: I really don't think smell should be on the call wall.
- 35:09unknown: Oh, I agree.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's awesome.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: I'll tell you what, we'll we'll finish off with one last one, right?
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: And it is Ollie, Ollie has been repping these for a while now, and we'll finish off the call wall by Ollie's white Mercian pads.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: Ollie, do you want to give us your take or do you want orbs to go first?
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: I'm having them.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: I am having them with the white helmet.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: I'm having it.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I didn't start off wearing them because I thought they were sick, but they've really grown on me and I'm happy with them.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: Orbs.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: So I mean, uh, I think a lot of people would be putting these in the in the seriously uncool category.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: Um, but you know, I I like Oliver, I not I don't like Oliver as an eye uh similarly to Oliver.
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: I I've always been a big fan of them, and I like I do like people going outside of their lanes.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: Uh and I thought when Stadler started wearing them, I I thought they looked great.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: Um, so I'd be putting them in the in the cool category.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: Um obviously took you took someone else to take on the mantle for you to then follow uh Pano.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: So um you can you can have a little bit of that as well.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: I I think I do think they're cool.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: I really think they're cool.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: And also there's another goal here that's got a set.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: Um uh the GB girl, Jess.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: Jess got a set, and she looks the best, she looks the best of all of you, I think.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's a good way to end, to be honest with you, when we talk about you know, we haven't come up a lot.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: I it wasn't meant to be like this, but I knew it was gonna go like this, where the vast, vast majority of what we've talked about hasn't been cool.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: But we'll finish there.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: Like the the white Mercian pads, they're cool.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: If any goalies aspiring or otherwise, you want to be other other other other brands are available, yeah.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: They are, they are, but let you know, let's stick together are endorsing white pads.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: Um, I'll be definitely inviting interested to hear you's take on that.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: But um, this has been a little nice, nice little mini episode.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: I I've enjoyed the mini one, and thank you both, Ollie.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: Thank you for coming and taking a uh uh a bit of a battering.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: Um, but it's been an absolute pleasure, guys.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, thanks a lot, and sorry to the goalkeeping world for not sticking out for you a little bit more, but just gotta be honest sometimes.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: Hey, uh cheers all.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this has been Let's Stick Together.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: A little special for you.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: See you next time.
