- 0:27Hey everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. So I want to share with you one
- 0:31of my most favorite questions that I use with all my coaching
- 0:35clients, with myself, with my son, with just about anybody.
- 0:39I probably asked this question of myself, I don't know,
- 0:43probably a good legitimately 50 times a day because it's just
- 0:48such a powerful question and you're probably going to be
- 0:51shocked by it because it's very introspective.
- 0:53But the question is, what else could this mean?
- 0:58And the power of this question was taught to me many, many
- 1:01years ago by a shaman actually in Hawaii.
- 1:06And we were at a Tony Robbins event.
- 1:10We were sitting outside having a conversation, and we were
- 1:13talking about the power of questions and all the different
- 1:16things that they could mean and all the different questions that
- 1:19people ask themselves. And I asked him, what is your
- 1:22favorite question? And he said, what else could
- 1:25this mean? And I said, wow, that's a really
- 1:27great question. He said, isn't it?
- 1:29It's one of my favorite questions ever, and it's not my
- 1:32most favorite. And, you know, when I started to
- 1:35pay attention to that in my own life, it really became a force,
- 1:40if you will, because when you ask that question for anything,
- 1:45you start to expand your horizons.
- 1:48You start to expand what you know.
- 1:50So you hear all that gaggling going on in the background.
- 1:53It sounds like the chickens are all upset, right?
- 1:55Sounds like they're angry about something.
- 1:57It sounds like they're being attacked.
- 1:59It could mean a lot of things to different people.
- 2:01But when I first got them out here and they were into their,
- 2:05you know, coop, big coop, and they would start doing this, I
- 2:07was like, all nerved up. I would run outside.
- 2:10Oh my God, dude, something's attacking them.
- 2:12I made a conclusion. I made a conclusion that they
- 2:14were in trouble and I run out and what I see is a bunch of
- 2:19chickens, hens specifically, all lined up.
- 2:23And here we are. I'm standing inside as I'm
- 2:26telling you this. They're all lined up and they're
- 2:28yelling at each other and now they're stopping because I'm
- 2:30here, obviously, but they're all lined up and this, this whole
- 2:34thing, all this yelling is not someone's attacking them.
- 2:38It's that they are annoyed with each other because they have
- 2:42eight boxes in which they can lay eggs and they like two of
- 2:46the eight. The rest of them are, I guess,
- 2:50not prime real estate, but they are all four boxes on top of
- 2:55four boxes. They are all set up identical.
- 2:58They all have the same hay, they all have the same herbs in them.
- 3:00Yet these chickens argue and yell at each other because they
- 3:05all want the same two boxes to lay their eggs in.
- 3:08And I don't understand it myself, but the first time I saw
- 3:12this I thought I must be wrong. There must be a snake in this in
- 3:15the coop, there must be something I'm not seeing.
- 3:17And boom, I look in. Nope, there's nothing there,
- 3:21there's nothing there. And then I realize, well, what
- 3:25else could this mean? Well, it's that they all just
- 3:27like to lay eggs in the same two boxes.
- 3:30And if there's a chicken in there laying an egg, they will
- 3:33yell in her face until she hurries up, in which she sits
- 3:36there and ignores them, which I love that she ignores them and
- 3:39doesn't hurry for anybody. She's like, Nope, my time, I'll
- 3:42take my time. But that one question I can ask
- 3:46and I can find out what's really going on.
- 3:48It's that they all have their favourites.
- 3:50I can ask a client that question, what else could this
- 3:53mean? And they can explain to me,
- 3:55well, I don't know what. Well, let's brainstorm.
- 3:58What else could it mean? What else is something that
- 4:00could be in the person's mind or in in your child's mind or in
- 4:04the situation? What else could be showing up?
- 4:06What else is bringing to the table for you?
- 4:11The question is formulated in a way that allows your brain to
- 4:16take it in and actually say, all right, I already have a
- 4:19conclusion because the word else is in there.
- 4:22So we automatically as human beings, we go to what does this
- 4:27mean? And we try to without even
- 4:30thinking about this. This is something that's just
- 4:32hard wired into us. It's how our cognitive brain
- 4:35capacity works. We look to draw conclusions
- 4:38quickly so that we can process quickly because our brains are
- 4:42all about speed, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 4:44So what else does this mean? Circumvents that, it goes over
- 4:50it and it says, OK, you've got a conclusion, but think of another
- 4:53conclusion. Think of another conclusion.
- 4:55And it gives your, your brain the capacity to use creativity,
- 5:00to use perspective, to use other emotions and come up with
- 5:07different possibilities. And in that, that's where the
- 5:10power comes in for solutions, creativity, it all blossoms.
- 5:15Steve Jobs was great at what else could we do?
- 5:19He one of the things that he was so good at doing was asking
- 5:24these other questions that go beyond what we know in the
- 5:27moment to go to the next level up.
- 5:30So this is one of those questions for you to ask
- 5:32yourself and what else could this mean?
- 5:35And help you to see and formulate different perspectives
- 5:40that bring about different possibilities and different
- 5:45conclusions for you to go to. And also help those around you
- 5:48become more creative and yourself to become more
- 5:50creative. Because honestly, the more you
- 5:53put that framework around you. For instance, I paint and when I
- 5:58paint, I will say, well, what's another way I can do this?
- 6:02So that's a branch off of that question, at least in my mind it
- 6:05is. And then I can try different
- 6:07things. And even though they may fail,
- 6:10I'm far more open to them because it's all about
- 6:12possibility. And then I don't look at it like
- 6:14it's just an OK, it's a failure. No, it's just, I figured out
- 6:18what I didn't like. It's not a failure.
- 6:20I just figured out what I didn't like.
- 6:22So hopefully this resonates with you and you'll be able to use
- 6:25this more and more in your life because I promise you, the more
- 6:29you use this question, the better you will be at helping
- 6:32yourself and helping those around you to get to what they
- 6:35really want in their life and their focus.
- 6:38So I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you
- 6:40tomorrow. Bye.
