- 0:47Thank you. Now here are the hosts of the
- 0:50United We Scan podcast. Ain't that the fucking truth?
- 0:55And welcome back everybody. Y'all missed a good preacher.
- 1:01I might just leave that one in there tonight.
- 1:04I think you should. I think I will.
- 1:08OK, episode one O 2 here we are. Carrier, CPWU and privacitation
- 1:17is privatization. OK?
- 1:20I can't talk tonight. It's going to be a fun night.
- 1:23How was your week, James? Oh, I got into overtime on Day 4
- 1:29and was overtime on Friday the whole day.
- 1:34Management was surprised. I didn't want to get assistance
- 1:37from relief carriers because they were doing static routes
- 1:42and things like that and telling them that they don't have to
- 1:44switch over to the routes when they're delivering the packages.
- 1:47I'm like, Oh no, I need all that, all that money to my route
- 1:50for my evaluation. So I'll take everything I can.
- 1:53They still sent assistance out to me on the route for two times
- 1:58this week, but really it didn't do much to change what time I
- 2:03got back to the office and I only missed the truck once this
- 2:06week. But we'll get into some
- 2:10discussions I've had this week, which is part of the carrier
- 2:14section of this. But I've enjoyed taking the time
- 2:19at the end of the day when I've gotten done doing my route,
- 2:22helping carriers like I normally do, and of course, gearing up
- 2:28for Christmas time. And the last couple weeks before
- 2:31Christmas always seem to pile on more packages because of people
- 2:36ordering and delivery times getting close to Christmas.
- 2:40So I'm hoping, I'm hoping that it's a good week, but you never
- 2:45know, you know, box holders and stuff like that come in all the
- 2:48time. So other than that, how was your
- 2:50week bill with your not To Do List?
- 2:52Oh. My God, nothing done on my not
- 2:56To Do List. So I I feel like I'm 100% it's
- 3:05to to the point where we actually didn't get our grandson
- 3:11Friday night. So we made an appointment with
- 3:13one of my customers who has one of these 3 1/2 story tall stone
- 3:20barns and they converted it into an Event Center and rented out
- 3:24for weddings and everything. And I haven't seen it in 15
- 3:27years. So we went over to a customer's
- 3:30of mine and met Teresa Gallagher and her husband Rich, and he
- 3:33goes, hi, I'm Rich. I says I know that.
- 3:36I said, what do you get stupid or something?
- 3:38He goes, well, I didn't recognize you because of the
- 3:40hair, but they did a beautiful job on this barn and all that.
- 3:46And it was just, you know, my wife just goes, I can't believe
- 3:50your customers love you that much.
- 3:51I'm like, yeah, I know they'd love me more than my wife.
- 3:54Then she goes, well, that's because they see you more than
- 3:56your wife, which is a good thing.
- 4:00Other than other than that, I mean it, it's been a very
- 4:03frustrating week answering people's questions where, you
- 4:07know, management can't enter overtime people, you know,
- 4:12talking about this, the what's it the 600 minutes and
- 4:15everything. So I'm just like over this so
- 4:18bad. Now somehow the 600 minutes got
- 4:20translated into 200 miles, which is 200 miles times 3 minutes in
- 4:26regards to overtime. And I'm just for God's sakes,
- 4:30ladies and gentlemen, if you don't know yourself, you know,
- 4:34start educating yourself about overtime procedures, you know,
- 4:37especially during Christmas and, and help the people in your
- 4:41office too, because God, I, I don't know what's wrong with
- 4:45people that they're not paying attention to the contract, the
- 4:50MMM 38 six O 3 DLM, because this is your damn job.
- 4:56And if you don't protect yourself, who the Hell's going
- 4:59to? And contrary to what I've read
- 5:02before where people say, well, why do we have a union?
- 5:06The union can't protect you unless you stand up for
- 5:09yourself. And you can't stand up for
- 5:11yourself if you don't know the rules.
- 5:15So how you going to file a grievance if you don't know a
- 5:17grievance was committed? Are you going to get your pay if
- 5:21you don't know you were shorted? Case in point, carry my office,
- 5:28it's getting a letter of demand for $300.00 from 2022.
- 5:34Now, of course, we had the fire in August of 2024 at
- 5:38Westchester, so they want him to prove that he didn't get
- 5:44overpaid and he put in a request for the original documents, the
- 5:504240 and the entries on rims for his pay, but they can't provide
- 5:57them because of the fire. But they still want him to pay
- 6:01the money back. You can't make this shit up.
- 6:05You really can't. Of course he's fighting it, you
- 6:08know, and, and it'll get down to the wire.
- 6:11But ladies and gentlemen, please start educating yourself and
- 6:16your fellow carriers in your office and watch out for each
- 6:19other. OK, How about you, Kristen?
- 6:22How was your week? My week wasn't too bad, it was
- 6:26actually fairly light this week in my office.
- 6:30Well at least for the main zip code.
- 6:32I'm not going to talk about the other two because that poor POV
- 6:36route which never get the volume that it's gotten in the last
- 6:42year and a half. And wow he's been having more
- 6:46parcels than I have on my 46K and the only day this week I was
- 6:52over evaluation was Monday and I was only over by point O 8.
- 7:00Everything else was under evaluation and no assistance at
- 7:05all this week. And I did use up my ex day on
- 7:09Thursday because I thought I was going to go to my daughter's
- 7:14Christmas concert and well, that got delayed because they've had
- 7:20snow days Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
- 7:22So I enjoyed my day off at home Thursday.
- 7:27And then I'm contemplating if I want to burn my last annual
- 7:32leave day for Wednesday to go to the make up day for the
- 7:34Christmas. Oh yeah, that was pretty much my
- 7:38week. Nothing too exciting otherwise.
- 7:42About the grandbaby. Yeah, he's going to be four
- 7:46months old Friday. Oh, in this past Friday, Friday
- 7:51the 13th was my 10th anniversary with the post office.
- 7:59Our condolences. I mean, congratulations.
- 8:02Yeah, yeah, that's what I was saying.
- 8:04I've never worked for a more abusive employer.
- 8:07I must be a glutton for punishment.
- 8:09Yeah, so. Yeah, it's, it's, it's hard to
- 8:17explain to people that you're saying while putting yourself
- 8:20through this, you know? Oh I know, it really is
- 8:24sometimes. Good Segway Bill, good Segway.
- 8:32I just posted about a picture of an LOV of ARCA who is out
- 8:41delivering in the dark. Got hit by an SUV causing the
- 8:46postal truck to roll over. The RCA had to be extra
- 8:50extricated and life flighted to the hospital where the RCA is
- 8:55still in a coma. I'm still getting details on
- 8:59this, but management's response to this was to send out a safety
- 9:05stand up talk of wearing your seat belt and not using your
- 9:08cell phone while working. This RCA was out in the dark
- 9:15driving this LOV and I didn't see in the picture that it had a
- 9:20strobe light on the top. Now it could have fallen off or
- 9:22not, but you literally only have 6 lights around this truck when
- 9:27you have the flashers on to warn people that you're there and
- 9:31that the driving lights. Oh yeah, you got headlights, you
- 9:35got marker lights, but they're incandescent garbage most of the
- 9:40time. Some of them are LED, but
- 9:42there's very few lights on this vehicle as it is.
- 9:46There aren't even clearance lights on them like UPS, FedEx,
- 9:49and Amazon have. You know, I really do like the
- 9:52rear light of the Rivian that Amazon is using that wraps all
- 9:57the way around the back of the truck.
- 9:59It makes it a lot more visible than the back end of a postal
- 10:03truck or even the front end of a postal truck.
- 10:06Something has to be done for the safety of these carriers.
- 10:09This isn't the only story I've heard about, but this is the
- 10:12first one we're going to talk about.
- 10:13This RCA was out there in the middle of the night and some of
- 10:17these carriers in this office, they're out there past 10:00 at
- 10:19night. And the postmaster tried to
- 10:24curtail packages because they had gotten over 12,000 packages
- 10:31in their office. And so the manager was trying to
- 10:33curtail packages so carriers could get out of the office and
- 10:37get back at a reasonable hour. And that postmaster got APDI
- 10:40from the district manager. You know, and is that postmaster
- 10:49I'd have taken that PDI for my carriers, but then we're, we're
- 10:55not normal people, OK? We, we, we would cover for our
- 10:59employees. Most of them won't.
- 11:08Yeah, we, we had a news report here in New Jersey.
- 11:13The 74 year old crossing guard was hit and killed.
- 11:18Now the worst part was he he's going across the the
- 11:23intersection. He's got the big yellow vest on.
- 11:26He's got the red stop sign in his hand as he's escorting these
- 11:30two students across the traffic. The first car goes by and almost
- 11:35hits them. As he pushes the two students
- 11:40away, a second car comes along and plows right into them.
- 11:45Broad daylight. OK, now here we're talking
- 11:48about, you know, a carrier being out in the dark.
- 11:51If people aren't paying attention in broad daylight, you
- 11:54imagine they're paying even less attention in the dark.
- 11:58And you know, our our prayers go out to this carrier because you
- 12:03shouldn't have to put your life on the line unless you're
- 12:05picking up a weapon in the military.
- 12:08But God, carriers do every damn day, every day.
- 12:14And and this just pisses me off to no end.
- 12:22Yeah, it brings brings home the point that this is a very
- 12:26dangerous job and a lot of people don't recognize that.
- 12:30They think all we do is just sit on our behinds and stick our
- 12:34arms out the window into a mailbox.
- 12:36There's so much more that goes into it.
- 12:38And especially on today's roads, you know, even in your normal
- 12:42personal vehicle, when you're just driving normally, crazy
- 12:46things happen out there. We just had ice come through our
- 12:49area and several area other states in the Midwest, and it's
- 12:53now up into Pennsylvania as well.
- 12:55You know you're talking about a job where you are out in the
- 13:00elements and you are at risk not only from the elements from but
- 13:05from every other Rd. user around you.
- 13:08We've had carriers that were rear-ended by semi trucks,
- 13:11carriers during the morning 6 to 9 play.
- 13:14They were rear-ended because they weren't expecting a vehicle
- 13:17to be sitting halfway out in the roadway delivering to a mailbox
- 13:20at 6:30 in the morning. They don't, you know, and out
- 13:24there at night, carriers working 15/16/19 hours in a single
- 13:30shift. When is somebody going to step
- 13:35up and protect these carriers? When is somebody going to say
- 13:38enough is enough? It's time for us to actually put
- 13:41our foot down, get with management to get away, to put
- 13:45people in these jobs, pay them decently and protect the most
- 13:54valuable asset of this company, which is the very people that
- 13:58deliver the goods and services that you depend on to make your
- 14:02money. And in my former office they are
- 14:10getting hit so bad right now with parcels.
- 14:14Everybody's comparing it to COVID but worse.
- 14:19My ex rap had four hampers yesterday. 4 hampers.
- 14:26I haven't even ever seen 4 ampers. 3 ampers and a stack.
- 14:31Couple stacks but not 4 ampers. This shit's out of control this
- 14:35year. It really is.
- 14:39And y'all, you know you're the most important delivery day.
- 14:43Fuck that toilet paper. Or that, you know, air fryer.
- 14:47Whatever else you have to deliver.
- 14:49If you hit the 12 hour mark, get your, you know, 11 1/2 hour mark
- 14:52as an RCA. Get your ass back to the office.
- 14:56If you're regular, just site safety.
- 15:00And I will say this, I've, I know carriers that are fighting
- 15:03for this right now. And while it's going through the
- 15:05grievance process, management is still telling them, well, until
- 15:08it's settled, you still have to go do this, grieve it again if
- 15:12you have to, but keep doing it. You know, you have, you have
- 15:16managers out there that are telling the district manager
- 15:19that their carrier can't do it anymore.
- 15:21And the district manager is telling them either you do it or
- 15:24I'll fire you and the carrier. Yep.
- 15:29Enough's enough. When is our district reps going
- 15:34to step up to these carrier, to these management jerks?
- 15:38And when is our national office going to do something about it?
- 15:42You know, they put these articles in, in the magazine
- 15:45saying if you're out there past eight, contact your district
- 15:47Rep. The district Rep should be
- 15:48contacting national. National should be putting a
- 15:50boot to the butt of management and getting them to stop forcing
- 15:55carriers to be out so freaking late.
- 16:01And that, that's the, I, I think that's the biggest crux of this
- 16:03problem is that you can push it up the ladder, but when it hits
- 16:07the top of the ladder and nobody does anything, you've got a
- 16:11problem. You got a problem with
- 16:13representation, and you got a problem with these people
- 16:16realizing who the hell they work for.
- 16:20And that's you and me. And it's me too.
- 16:24Because, you know, even though I'm retired, I pay dues.
- 16:28So yes, you know, you, you have to find a way to change the
- 16:33entire atmosphere, the national board and the NSS and go after
- 16:39postal management. Kristen, your thoughts?
- 16:45Oh, I think you guys have pretty much nailed the yeah, but you
- 16:52you guys have said pretty much all of it.
- 16:58I really don't have anything to add on what you guys have
- 17:01already said so. Yeah, we made.
- 17:07A woman speechless. I have one more.
- 17:14Unfortunately, I was actually contacted by a city carrier who
- 17:20used to work in this office and it's about a / a month ago that
- 17:26this happened. But a rural carrier was getting
- 17:29harassed by management on the daily and one day they took it.
- 17:34Took it too far with this carrier, and this carrier
- 17:37brought their route back after about halfway done with it and
- 17:43parked the truck, went home and they were never seen again.
- 17:48They took their own life because of managerial harassment.
- 17:54All of this has to stop. All of it.
- 17:59But when I'm getting calls even from city carriers, this is not
- 18:03right. And that's happened with the
- 18:06clerk in our office, too. It's not just our craft, it's
- 18:10it's across the board. And it boils down to management.
- 18:14It's, you know, we've been dealing with ours off and on,
- 18:20off and on, off and on to the point where people are actually
- 18:23finally tired of dealing with it and are stepping up finally.
- 18:29But yeah, it, it is. It's happening everywhere.
- 18:32And it's sad that it has to happen everywhere.
- 18:36There's no reason for it. I mean, we have so many
- 18:39documents that that state, you know, about harassment and
- 18:45bullying and all that stuff. And a lot of it's geared towards
- 18:50employee to employee, but you know, management still has to
- 18:53follow those guidelines too, more so now than ever.
- 19:00Well, we, we just had a situation.
- 19:03We had a situation in our SD and C with a highway contractor.
- 19:10The highway contractor son works with her in the office.
- 19:14They have 3 routes and he was bringing over 3 hampers and the
- 19:20district manager who is a a bit of a Hitler type individual
- 19:25grabbed third hamper and told him it was unsafe.
- 19:29And you know he turned around and said whatever dude.
- 19:32So he goes on to, you know, the cases where the highway contract
- 19:37rallies and the son said, you know, that guy is on a
- 19:43motherfucking power trip. And that's when the DM got up in
- 19:47his face. Now allegedly, physical violence
- 19:51was the spoken towards the DM, which ended up with the highway
- 19:57contractor carrier, you know, being removed from the office
- 20:01with the threat of police being called to the office.
- 20:06This has been building up. Because of the animosity that is
- 20:11displayed towards my Westchester office at this SD and C.
- 20:18Now you want to talk about mismanagement.
- 20:21They brought in, you know, some of you know, older cases, but
- 20:24you know, they're adjustable cases to, you know, give us so
- 20:28that we could put our raft up when the fire happened.
- 20:32This guy won't spend the money for this, that, or the other,
- 20:35but he's buying all new blue cases for all 88 Westchester
- 20:41office routes. You you want to talk about why
- 20:46the post office is leaving? Losing money?
- 20:49Because this guy wants the whole office to look uniform.
- 20:52This guy doesn't want you carrying three hampers if you
- 20:55only have two people working 3 ramps.
- 20:57I mean 2-3 routes and you can safely transport 3 hampers,
- 21:02what's the big fucking deal? But this guy's attitude, like
- 21:07you said, his, his, you know, Hitler persona that exhibits on
- 21:13the floor. I mean, he was actually
- 21:16threatened by this highway contractor to the point where he
- 21:21he was going to have to call the police.
- 21:24Well, if you didn't start it, if you didn't provoke the
- 21:27situation, it would have never probably escalated to that
- 21:31point. But the problem of it is that
- 21:34this is where we have people who should not be in management.
- 21:39If you want to be treated nicely, treat people nicely.
- 21:43All these joint statements on our workplace are for both sides
- 21:48of the of the fence, the employee and the employer,
- 21:53management as well as the crafts.
- 21:55And yet we're the ones that bear the brunt of it.
- 22:04Yeah. And it's one of those things
- 22:06that we need to hold management to the higher standard that they
- 22:11hold us to. They're not afraid to turn
- 22:14around and quote the Elm to us. And now we all know everybody
- 22:19here on the on the presenter side knows that management
- 22:22doesn't just know that stuff off the top of their head.
- 22:25They all contact the labor side of of management to get the
- 22:29breakdown of the questions they want to ask people in order to
- 22:33try and pin them with whatever violation they want to do.
- 22:38But it is our job and our responsibility to know this
- 22:42stuff and be able to hold management accountable
- 22:45ourselves. Here we go.
- 22:53Yeah, it's funny because the gentleman that I said that was
- 22:57as of Friday, apprised of not coming back to the office.
- 23:02He, he's having a fit because his supervisor and his
- 23:07postmaster and the district manager, they're all getting
- 23:09this from the region. When this hits national in
- 23:14regards to his situation, it's going to be going like this.
- 23:19Are you people stupid? He has medical documentation
- 23:23that we already agreed to give him assistance on his route and
- 23:28now you sent him home without pay in direct violation of his
- 23:35OWCP agreement that we signed. How stupid can you be?
- 23:42Answer that, because no matter how stupid you think management
- 23:46is, they'll prove you wrong and go further.
- 23:49Yes they will. They have that ability.
- 23:53Oh yes. Yes, they do.
- 23:58Yeah. It's it's crazy to think that we
- 24:04as carriers have to be so knowledgeable in our own jobs to
- 24:11be able to hold management accountable.
- 24:15And there you go, Bill. There's there's the grandbaby.
- 24:19There we go. And everybody, everybody
- 24:23watching this will be able to see the grandbaby.
- 24:29Grandma, what the hell you doing putting me on this show?
- 24:34It's not 1513. It it's all day mommy.
- 24:37Leaves and I get. Cranky Mommy leaves and I get
- 24:40cranky, so Papa just passed me off to grandma.
- 24:45Yeah. Yeah, don't become a rule
- 24:50carrier. That's the future of the royal
- 24:54craft right there. Third generation.
- 24:58Oh God. Management stupidity is an
- 25:03extreme sport. No, I've I've come to the
- 25:07conclusion, and this is through the years of research that I've
- 25:11done and Bill will probably most likely agree with my very next
- 25:15statement, that management failing to know the rules and
- 25:20regulations of the post office is no longer just a fluke.
- 25:25It's not a management made a mistake, it is purely malicious
- 25:31and intentional. They do it on purpose because
- 25:35they want to get away with it, to see how far they can push
- 25:40you, See if they can turn you into a city carrier because Lord
- 25:43knows they don't like the rural contract.
- 25:45It's too complicated for them. It has too many details for
- 25:49them. Just pay them hourly and call it
- 25:52good. Make it so that they have the
- 25:54hour office time, the five minute end of shift duty, you
- 25:58know, where they can micromanage us to death because we're
- 26:02working hour by hour. We can't let them do that.
- 26:06We can't let them beat us up. And and to that point, James,
- 26:13you are correct that it's an intentional.
- 26:15I've actually had supervisors and postmasters say, I know it's
- 26:20against the contract, but this is what being told to me from
- 26:25above. And they still go ahead and do
- 26:27it. Even though they know they're
- 26:30going to lose the grievance on the get go, they still do it
- 26:34because they're afraid of losing their jobs.
- 26:38And if you, if you can't convey that to the person above you
- 26:43that this is going to cost the post office money, there's
- 26:46something wrong with your skills.
- 26:50Yeah, I did. There are these guys who are ego
- 26:53tripping pieces of dog dirt and you know you're not going to
- 27:00argue with them. Like like the one guy was
- 27:02saying, I want no excuses. If your supervisor screw up or
- 27:06anything, I'm holding you responsible.
- 27:08There is no forgiveness. It you know you will be
- 27:10disciplined. How do you inspire the people
- 27:14below you with threats? The same way how does management
- 27:19inspire the craft with threats? I'm sorry.
- 27:23I'm one of those people. When you threaten me, I come
- 27:25back at you and I'm always twice to three times dirtier than you
- 27:31are. That's just the way I'm made.
- 27:37And they broke the wall. All right, we're going to change
- 27:48gears here a little bit and talk about our brothers and sisters
- 27:54in Canada. Somebody's not happy we're
- 27:59changing gears, but our brothers and sisters in Canada are on on
- 28:09over a month long strike and there's been an update and I
- 28:15have to put this out there. They are going Richard Nixon on
- 28:20them. The Canadian government is
- 28:28putting out there that they want the Canadian version of the
- 28:32Labor Board to force the postal workers back to work, just like
- 28:42they did tried to do with the Postal Service in the 70s, and
- 28:46just like they tried to do with the air traffic controllers.
- 28:50It worked better against the air traffic controllers because the
- 28:52National Guard actually worked air traffic control for their
- 28:56own air. The Air National Guard worked
- 28:59air traffic control for themselves, but the National
- 29:02Guard couldn't deliver the mail. Now the postal, the Postal
- 29:06Service in Canada is going to be tried to be forced back to work
- 29:09by the national government. That'll go over like a lead
- 29:14balloon. Oh yeah.
- 29:18The interesting thing about that is, you know it it stems a lot
- 29:23to what just happened to the railroads in our country and how
- 29:29they forced them back to work. So here we go again.
- 29:33Government interfering with the rights of the people.
- 29:40And I don't know about you guys, but that is something that
- 29:45should not be done because contract negotiations are the
- 29:51epitome of workers rights and the best way for labor to be
- 29:59able to continue to work for these kinds of companies.
- 30:04Would you guys agree? Yeah.
- 30:08My question is, is that is the Canadian Postal Service a
- 30:13government agency in in entirety or do they like?
- 30:27Us it's a Crown corporation, so it's basically a separate entity
- 30:49'cause they did the Canada Post Crown Corporation Act of 1981
- 30:52abolished the Post Office Department and created the
- 30:56present day Crown corporation that provides Postal Service.
- 31:03Canada Post operates as a group of companies called the Canada
- 31:07Post Group and employs approximately 70,000 full and
- 31:10part time employees. The corporation holds an
- 31:14interest and Purolator Courier in ANOVA Post Progistic
- 31:18Solutions and Canada Post International Limited.
- 31:26It's a it's a hang on, let me just see.
- 31:38The Crown Corporation are organizations in Canada with a
- 31:46mixture of commercial and public policy objectives.
- 31:48They are directly and wholly owned by the Crown, IE the
- 31:53Government of Canada or a province.
- 31:58So it is a government agency underneath the Crown of Canada.
- 32:05OK, Yep, it does sound like USPS.
- 32:16But we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters up in
- 32:22Canada and their fight for living wages.
- 32:25They're only looking for hang on. 23%.
- 32:33They were looking for 23%, but I believe their last negotiation
- 32:41if I'm not mistaken, let me just verify here really quick,
- 32:53believe it said that they were looking.
- 32:55They had just tried to go with 19%.
- 33:10And even. Only 12 1/2 miles past us, the.
- 33:14Union Leader said above the Labor minister's announcement of
- 33:21the time out. He said, I feel like he's
- 33:23treating us like children, you know, But hopefully they come up
- 33:38with some kind of amicable solution to all this.
- 33:41Because I just had a news article out of my area with the
- 33:48County Sheriff's Department and the costs associated with
- 33:52localities farming out their police services to the county.
- 33:58And one county got a raise of $1.5 billion in the million
- 34:03dollars, $1.5 million, excuse me, it went from 4 million to
- 34:10$5.5 million. And the cited reasons by the
- 34:15county for that was they're coming up on negotiations of the
- 34:19sheriff's officers salaries and they are expecting A4 to 5%
- 34:25increase in wages a year in their next collective bargaining
- 34:31agreement. So that 1.3% that they offered
- 34:36the city carriers is looking tiny now compared to everybody
- 34:40else that is negotiating and collective bargaining that we
- 34:43know of. But Speaking of that, in
- 34:50collective bargaining, people have been, it's been going all
- 34:54over the news everywhere. Every organization, news
- 34:57organization has been talking about the privatization of the
- 35:00Postal Service. Yeah, they talked about it 30
- 35:07years ago. They talked about it 13 years
- 35:09ago, they talked about it eight years ago.
- 35:13You know that there's. They've been talking about it.
- 35:18They've been talking about it since the Great Postal Strike.
- 35:22Privatization of the Postal Service has been talked about
- 35:25since the Great Postal Strike, when our brothers and sisters of
- 35:29the City Craft decided to step up, stand up and hold management
- 35:34accountable and fight for the rights of every single postal
- 35:38employee in the country. They've been talking about
- 35:43privatizing the Postal Service. It's not going to happen because
- 35:49you need 2/3 of Congress in each set of the Congress from the
- 35:56House to the Senate. 2/3 need to agree to it, and once they agree
- 36:00to it, they have to change all the laws associated with the
- 36:03Postal Service involving that. And then they have to convene a
- 36:08constitutional Congress of all the states, and 3/4 of the
- 36:15states have to pass the ratification of the
- 36:19Constitution. Otherwise it doesn't work and
- 36:23you can't privatize the Postal Service.
- 36:25And you don't darn well one side or the other is not going to
- 36:29agree with the other person because anything one side
- 36:32suggests is a problem to the other.
- 36:36So yes, the fears of privatization will not be
- 36:41realized even in the next 4 years unless you can get 2/3 of
- 36:46the House and 2/3 of the Senate to be one party.
- 36:52Yeah, that ain't happening. Nope.
- 36:58And Leah, like, like a lot of the chat forms have said, who,
- 37:01who wants to invest in a losing venture such as the post office?
- 37:08I mean, look at it right now. The joy says, oh, we're building
- 37:14on the success building going into the Christmas season.
- 37:17Your success was a $10.1 billion loss for last year.
- 37:26James, that's not funny. Hey, I saw it on the House.
- 37:33I got to do it. Yeah.
- 37:34It's up in the chat too, OK, But you know, here, here we go
- 37:39again. You know, if you're going to run
- 37:41a business, OK, you have to get people's cooperation to make it
- 37:47successful, to make it financially sound.
- 37:49How you doing that when you're threatening your, your, your
- 37:52base employees all the time? How are you doing this with
- 37:56vehicle that are 40 plus years old out there or a lack of
- 38:01vehicles? I've I've seen chats where
- 38:04people are being asked if they want to switch the POV routes on
- 38:09Table 2 money. Are you kidding me?
- 38:12There's no way you can afford a brand new POV.
- 38:15Now, you know everybody's buying all these, you know, used cars
- 38:20and converting them, but even still you're putting the money
- 38:23out for the repairs. And most of you are out in rural
- 38:26routes where if you don't have 4 wheel drive, that vehicle is not
- 38:30going to last. But it's OK because you can turn
- 38:34around and not deliver certified letters that are 7-8 dollars
- 38:40each and have to refund that money.
- 38:43You can turn around and send out bundles of boxes for free, but
- 38:48you have to pay the clerk to put the label on there.
- 38:50You have to track them. The carrier has to load them and
- 38:53deliver them and you're getting Jack shit for him.
- 38:57But if Kristen walks in the post office to buy that same box,
- 39:01she's paying 7 bucks for it. If you're moving, your mail is
- 39:07to be forwarded. Why?
- 39:09Well hold it. Didn't we deliver it or make the
- 39:12attempt to deliver it to the address on the envelope?
- 39:16Yes, we did. Therefore, our service has been
- 39:19rendered through that address. If you want it forwarded, you're
- 39:22paying $20 a year to get it forwarded.
- 39:25If you want to put your mail on hold, it's $5 to put it on hold.
- 39:30We are a delivery service, not a storage center.
- 39:33We're not a warehousing office. We are a delivery unit.
- 39:39Generate the income where you can.
- 39:42How hard is this to do? And how about this?
- 39:46I owe the contract so that you're not paying out millions
- 39:51upon millions in grievances because your management team is
- 39:55uneducated or your management team's stupid enough to listen
- 39:58to their bosses and the grievances get filed and then
- 40:02their bosses sit there and go, oh, I didn't get a bonus because
- 40:04we had too many grievances. Who's the idiot that filed the
- 40:08damn district or directives, huh?
- 40:11Who? Who's the lemmings that just?
- 40:14Follow the other big Rd. Follow the other big road, and
- 40:17off the Cliff you go, rushing into the ocean because somebody
- 40:20told you to and you were afraid to stand up and say no.
- 40:27Well, we're saying no. We've been saying no for years
- 40:31and we're going to keep saying no.
- 40:34We're not taking this shit anymore.
- 40:40I feel like I should start playing that Twisted Sister
- 40:44stone, but I might get us in a copyright issues.
- 40:51There, Yeah, we can get a copyright strike on that.
- 40:54Yeah. You know, it's crazy to think
- 41:01that there are opportunities for a lot of improvement in this
- 41:06whole organization. And a lot of it just comes down
- 41:13to people who don't want to listen to the people who
- 41:19probably know more than they do because they look down on them.
- 41:25They would rather ignore people who bring facts and truth to the
- 41:31forefront and live in their own happy little world thinking that
- 41:36they're untouchable. The time's coming where they
- 41:39won't be untouchable anymore. The time's coming where people
- 41:43are going to stand up and hold them accountable.
- 41:46And it is our job as carriers in this organization to hold the
- 41:50people accountable when they make these mistakes because 99%
- 41:56of them are intentional mistakes.
- 42:08And say goodnight to the wife. Tender a little moment there.
- 42:20Oh. Yeah, Ruby came and got picked
- 42:25up, little man, and he left me. With yeah, no.
- 42:28Split up on my shoulder. Well, better than.
- 42:39And no, exorcisms don't work on me, OK?
- 42:42Yeah, we know. Yeah, if you, if anybody ever
- 42:48remembers back to the 70s with Flip Wilson saying the devil
- 42:51made me do it. So we, we, we had a comment on
- 42:57our Spotify today, not today, three days ago, so this week,
- 43:03and I haven't replied to it 'cause I figured that'd be a
- 43:07good one to do on air. And this person says, how do I
- 43:12get involved to make a change? Please reach out to me, I'm
- 43:15ready to fight. Start with your local meeting.
- 43:26Start with your local meetings. There's the delegate ballot in
- 43:29the national magazine. You can apply to be the
- 43:32national, a national delegate and nominate yourself.
- 43:36And when the ballots come out, vote for yourself and engage
- 43:41other people in your craft in your state.
- 43:44Go to those meetings, go to your state convention, go to your
- 43:47boosters if you have them, anything that can get you
- 43:51involved more with your union and be sure that we're behind
- 44:00you on that. We're behind you learning more,
- 44:05but start by getting involved at the local level.
- 44:08If you need to know if you have a local meeting or something,
- 44:11you can contact your state secretary, you can contact your
- 44:14union Rep. Your union reps should know if
- 44:16you have an area meeting coming up or something like that.
- 44:24Right. And from my point of view, get
- 44:27to know your contract, get to get to know Rex and
- 44:30understanding that I mean, Rex is so important now to your
- 44:34paycheck that you know, you would be ill served not to know
- 44:39the insurance and outs of Rex. I mean, here we are on our 4th
- 44:43mini mail survey. You know, we're basically, for
- 44:46me, five years into the implementation of Rex and from
- 44:50my office and people still have questions about second trips,
- 44:56trips to the doors, unscanable parcels.
- 44:58These are all things you have to become familiar with.
- 45:01I have a gentleman that bid on to my vacant route.
- 45:04He'll be taking over January 11th.
- 45:07And he was like, well, how does Bill get a, you know, such a
- 45:11big, you know, evacuation? I'm at 67 hours on my route
- 45:15because I do everything every day.
- 45:18I don't skip a day and I only put in information that is
- 45:22accurate and factual. I don't give them any leeway
- 45:28when it comes to the unscanable parcels.
- 45:31If I can't case it without manipulating the hell out of it,
- 45:34it's an unscanable parcel. You want to argue it, then you
- 45:37know, guess what? Let's have APDI or an eye and I,
- 45:41whatever. But I'm going to show you
- 45:43exactly how I work my mail. And if I can't stick it in my
- 45:48case without bending it over four times into Wednesday, it's
- 45:52an unscanable parcel, folks. OK, also contract, learn the
- 45:57contract, what they're allowed to do, what they're not allowed
- 46:00to do, the order of consideration, one of the most
- 46:03important documents in regards to having relief or in your
- 46:07regards as an RCA where you're placed.
- 46:11If you're scheduled for an office, you are considered
- 46:14unavailable for any other duty. Hello, black and white.
- 46:19No interpretation. Now learn 10 minutes a day, Read
- 46:26The Six, O3M38, the Elm, Rex, whatever.
- 46:31But put the effort into protecting your paycheck.
- 46:34It's your paycheck. Not mine, not James, not
- 46:36Kristen's. It's yours.
- 46:39So if you want to get paid for everything you do know what
- 46:42you're supposed to be paid for. Kristen, I've been there.
- 46:49Oh yeah, definitely, definitely getting more involved.
- 46:52I got involved from the get go. So my, you know, just like this.
- 46:58The gentleman said, you know, go to a local meeting, you know,
- 47:02start getting to know people at your local regional meetings,
- 47:06district meetings, However, they're broken up in your area.
- 47:10Go, you know, go to a a state booster if you have them go to
- 47:16your state convention. That's that's the easy stuff
- 47:19right there. You know, nominate yourself to
- 47:22get on the ballot to go to national.
- 47:25I was going to read it off. We had some pretty good ones in
- 47:29the listener chat, be it become informed, you know, that comes
- 47:33back, you know, getting to know your contract.
- 47:36I mean, I would even for an easier start, maybe go with the
- 47:39Arcam because it's got some explanations there too.
- 47:44And you know, read in the PO6O3 and there there's so many out
- 47:50there. I mean, a lot of it's, you know,
- 47:53get on to the national website and go to the steward reference
- 47:56guide. That's where you can search
- 47:58everything by goes by alphabet. You choose a letter of something
- 48:04you want to look for. Don't look for hostile work
- 48:08environment. By that you're going to have to
- 48:10look under harassment, work place, climates and environment
- 48:17and violence in the workplace. Trust me it it can be confusing.
- 48:26But we all know no sections. Yes, it can be confusing to
- 48:32navigate, but once you kind of get an idea how it works, you
- 48:36then will not have to spend as much time looking for certain
- 48:39things. That's definitely a huge
- 48:42resource to learning everything, including, you know, everything
- 48:45there is printed on Rex is on the website as well.
- 48:51And, you know, cautionary there, it says, you know, follow the
- 48:55postal groups on Facebook. But just like everything we say
- 48:59and everything the union says and management says, you take it
- 49:02with the grain and salt and make sure it's factual.
- 49:05I mean, there are some very good Facebook groups out there.
- 49:09But we're human and we all make mistakes and, and at least we'll
- 49:12admit it. But the fact of the matter is
- 49:15that you still have to do your research.
- 49:17That's a good place to start. But make sure you research
- 49:20everything. Yep.
- 49:24So, so, so let me finish going through the list real quick
- 49:27before I sidetrack again. Become informed delegate for
- 49:30state national. Be willing to stand up for
- 49:33yourself that that is very important.
- 49:35And if nobody else in your office stands up for themselves
- 49:38and they see somebody starting to stand up for themselves, they
- 49:41will shortly follow after that run for office, whether it's,
- 49:45you know, local state office, become a steward.
- 49:49I mean, that's you get a lot of resources there as well.
- 49:54I mean, you get help, you get resources, become a steward, you
- 49:59know, stick it to management every chance you get.
- 50:01Oh, and the biggest one, remember to join the union.
- 50:05If you're not a member, that's that's the only way you're going
- 50:10to get onto the website to get all that information for sure.
- 50:14I mean, there are other avenues, but to get everything that
- 50:17you're looking for, possibly for that, definitely you have to be
- 50:22a member and logged in. Yeah, and if you can't, if
- 50:28you're not able to access the union website as a non deuce
- 50:31paying person, there's rail info, Rail info posts, a lot of
- 50:36stuff that is good information for you.
- 50:38Again, like Bill said, take it with a grain of salt.
- 50:42Do your own research, make sure that it's an actual postal
- 50:46document. If if they quote a postal
- 50:48document, guess what, it's available online because postal
- 50:53documents are public record. So if you quote.
- 50:58Something. Yep look it up and compare it
- 51:02exactly. And now you have a framework.
- 51:06This the start your knowledge base and don't stop there.
- 51:13When you know, pick up your six O 3 and read that it's supposed
- 51:17to be changed, but it hasn't been changed.
- 51:19It's supposed to be amended, but until you know they agree upon
- 51:22it, it's the six O 3 still stands.
- 51:25We don't agree by that anymore. It we haven't changed it yet.
- 51:28Nothing's been signed and dotted and everything else.
- 51:31I mean go by the six O 3, the Elm, the M38, get to know their
- 51:36handbooks as well as they do because they don't know shit.
- 51:40Yep, that M 38 is way outdated. It's like last.
- 51:45Oh gosh, yeah. 1980 but there's definitely some good information
- 51:51in there that you could definitely use against
- 51:52management. And you definitely can use it
- 51:56against them. Definitely.
- 51:57Yeah, don't be afraid to use their own manuals against them.
- 52:00They're breaking their own rules.
- 52:01Hold them accountable for it. Just like they hold the Elm
- 52:05against us. Yeah, we can hold it against
- 52:09them too. Don't don't you love when you,
- 52:12you get APDI and they, they quote the Elm for loyalty to the
- 52:16post office. And, and you know, I had a girl
- 52:20in for the PDI one time and they brought up the loyalty and she
- 52:27just quietly said, look, motherfucker, I show up every
- 52:30day. I don't want to hear about
- 52:32loyalty. I see you motherfuckers more
- 52:34than I see my family. I fell off my chair.
- 52:38I I I had to stop the meeting there.
- 52:42I like it. Yeah.
- 52:44She. She's 100,000% right.
- 52:48Yeah. But I, I, I couldn't stop
- 52:50laughing. I mean, I had to leave the
- 52:51office. Yeah.
- 52:53And. And she, you know, I grabbed her
- 52:55and pulled her out with me. And I said please don't say it
- 52:58anymore. Oh, God.
- 53:04But it's so true. It is, yeah.
- 53:07You spend more time with with your work family than you do
- 53:11your actual family. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:16I, I mean, I got a message from a carrier today.
- 53:19I'm not going to read the whole message.
- 53:21I'll read it off air though, for the funny parts.
- 53:24But you know, they, they just needed a vent and didn't know
- 53:26who to bother on a Sunday, so they bothered me, which is fine.
- 53:29Not a bother. It's OK, I actually was talking
- 53:34to my local steward when I read it and he got a kick out of it
- 53:36too. So it says.
- 53:39I've been volunteering for Sundays to help the Subs.
- 53:41We're down to three with 12 routes, one of which is being
- 53:45held down because the regular just retired and they are
- 53:50fucking rock stars and deserve it so kudos to them.
- 53:57But I've been coming in at 10:00 time, which is they're supposed
- 54:01to be their start time and seeing them all loading and
- 54:04working off the clock sucks. I make points of it, but the
- 54:06same time how can you blame them from trying to get that work
- 54:09life balance? It just sucks at the place we
- 54:11work for. There's so little about that.
- 54:14We've been to Amazon contractors, wills that the
- 54:17hardest workers of them all choose to lose money for more
- 54:21time with their families because they can't clock in early, can't
- 54:24start early, so they're working off the clock so they can get
- 54:27done earlier, be able to go and spend the rest of the day with
- 54:30their family. I understand it.
- 54:32Is it right? Absolutely not.
- 54:36But it's sad that it has to come down to this.
- 54:41It really is. And, and as regular as you can
- 54:46empathize that they're working Sunday and you don't have to,
- 54:51but they're hurting themselves as much as anybody else in doing
- 54:55this. And that that's, you know,
- 55:00pissing me off about this 10:00 horse shit.
- 55:04You're still getting done in the dark.
- 55:05A lot of these carriers on a Sunday.
- 55:09Who the Hell's expecting the postal vehicles out there on
- 55:12Sunday? Yeah.
- 55:15Yeah, same. Same way the Amazon guy almost
- 55:18got shot at my front door the other day, 9:24 PM, hanging on
- 55:24the door and then drop the stuff.
- 55:27Well, no, me, you know, I came to the door and I have my right
- 55:32hand behind my back. And then the guys, I see the
- 55:35guys standing there taking the picture.
- 55:37He goes, have a good night. I said, well, be safe out there.
- 55:42Yeah. I mean, you know, I'd hate to
- 55:43tell you if it had been anything else except for the Amazon guy.
- 55:49They've been a a different night for me.
- 55:53Yeah. But yeah, I mean it, it's, it's
- 55:57crazy that, I mean, my Amazon showed up really early
- 56:02yesterday. I wasn't, I knew it was
- 56:05expecting, but I was not expecting it as early as it
- 56:08showed up at my door. Didn't even know that they had
- 56:11been here until I checked my e-mail.
- 56:14My, my wife gets the alerts on her phone and you know, she got
- 56:18an alert that, you know, there's a package coming late.
- 56:23So, you know, of course, I, I, I was ready for it, you know, I'm,
- 56:26I'm still downstairs and, you know, but when the, when the
- 56:30banging on the door started, OK, Amazon usually doesn't bang on
- 56:34the door. They hardly even ring the
- 56:35doorbell. So, you know, like I said, I was
- 56:39prepared for any situation. But you know, God, thank you.
- 56:43I don't want to hurt anybody coming around that time of
- 56:45night. I mean they're just trying to
- 56:47make the living like we are. You know, nobody should be out
- 56:52that late and and I don't care what John Adams says about this
- 56:57eight 8:00 PM with the and contact your DRI just thought in
- 57:01the message area about the Dr. saying, you know, well, you can
- 57:05put cease and desist, but it's going to keep happening.
- 57:08Well, with that attitude, yes it will keep happening.
- 57:12You know, if the Dr. has that attitude, who the hell you know
- 57:16up the line is going to do anything about it?
- 57:19That right there is just wrong. The Dr. is supposed to contact
- 57:22National when carriers are out past 8:00 PM.
- 57:25That has been the rule since before 2021.
- 57:30Why are we still fighting over this?
- 57:34Why the hell has a National file to Step 4 on this?
- 57:38National is aware that people are out past eight.
- 57:41In fact, President Masten even touted that they're able to
- 57:46track who's working past 8:00 PM themselves.
- 57:51So where is our Step 4 on this? Where is our national board on
- 57:55this? Where are the people that are
- 57:56supposed to protect these carriers from being out there
- 57:59this late? And what are they doing to get
- 58:01more butts in the seat to get this covered?
- 58:05Well, how are you going to get butts in the seat when you can't
- 58:08get people in the damn door? You can't get them in the door
- 58:11because you know, a they need to have POVSB.
- 58:14They can make more money at Bucky's or Wawa.
- 58:18You know they they don't have to put up with.
- 58:20The Doc's Cabinet fear 1.3. Is not going to come.
- 58:26I mean no, Wawa is a regional. I'll say stop and go type shop
- 58:31with gas stations. You know like Bucky's or
- 58:33Speedway. I forget what the other ones
- 58:36are, but the fact of the matter is that they, they pay people
- 58:42$18.00 an hour, OK, less money than they pay the post office.
- 58:48And yet they have a lot of young people in there and you never
- 58:51see any of them disgruntled. They're very helpful, they're
- 58:54very polite. Now, they might go through a
- 58:57better hiring process. They don't have to use their own
- 58:59vehicles, They don't get switched store to store or
- 59:02anything like that. But the fact of the matter is
- 59:04they're working for less money and they're happy.
- 59:08What does that tell you about the post office when you're
- 59:10paying a little bit more money and people aren't happy?
- 59:17Yeah, $20.00 an hour and maintain a vehicle as an RCA.
- 59:21And if you're in one of those offices that you know is
- 59:26sufficiently staffed, you're not going to be working all but
- 59:31maybe a couple days a week. No, you know, that's a little
- 59:36bit less wear and tear on your vehicle, but still, it doesn't
- 59:39help if something major goes down because more than likely
- 59:42that vehicle that you're using for APOV is probably going to be
- 59:46your daily driver. I've been there.
- 59:49And then, and then you get the ones that are working seven days
- 59:53a week, 1012 hours a day, and something happens to their
- 59:58vehicle and they're getting reprimanded because they don't
- 1:00:01have a vehicle right now because it's got to get fixed.
- 1:00:04Well, I'm working seven days a week, 1012 hours a day.
- 1:00:07When's it supposed to get fixed? And that goes for regulars too,
- 1:00:13with POV routes that you know there is no you, you know you
- 1:00:19can't get your relief day. You're, you're, you're going in
- 1:00:22on Sundays to help out because there's nobody else.
- 1:00:25And now you're getting in trouble because you got to take
- 1:00:28a day off and there's nobody to cover because you got to get
- 1:00:30your POV fixed. I went through that Christian
- 1:00:35about 15 years ago and my van needed a transmission.
- 1:00:41It was you know, like 3 weeks to get it fixed for the parts and
- 1:00:44everything and they were telling me why I had to supply my own
- 1:00:48vehicle. And in the meantime there were
- 1:00:50two LL VS sitting in the parking lot being not being used for
- 1:00:55carriers who hadn't been trained to drive LL VS yet.
- 1:00:59But they sat there for those 3 plus weeks.
- 1:01:02In the meantime they had a sub filling on my route and was
- 1:01:06giving him an LOV every day. Now I don't know what you think
- 1:01:13you would do, but this asshole turned around and filed a
- 1:01:16grievance and I got paid for three weeks of of work because
- 1:01:20of what they did and they were having a fit about that sorry
- 1:01:24disparity of treatment. You require people to have PO VS
- 1:01:29guess what? So does the sub.
- 1:01:32Yeah. And you know, you know, I don't
- 1:01:34want to hear about it. Well, he wasn't hired on a POV
- 1:01:37route. If you're hired in an office
- 1:01:39with POVS, you better have a POV available to you.
- 1:01:43Yeah. You're not hired just for a
- 1:01:45route. Out of the four Subs that we
- 1:01:48have now, the only one that has a POV is the new one that just
- 1:01:54finished up Academy last week, two week and a half ago there.
- 1:01:59He's not doing OJI training OJT until after the holidays, but he
- 1:02:03is running parcels. He's the only one that actually
- 1:02:06has a PUV route worthy for a new hire.
- 1:02:13And I will say that go. Ahead.
- 1:02:17I have a I've got a notification from an another carrier that an
- 1:02:22RCA quit and the reason why they quit is their last year's
- 1:02:27paycheck was $11,000. They spent $12,000 repairing
- 1:02:33their POV last year, so they lost $1000 working for the post
- 1:02:40office. Yeah, when in debt job, let's
- 1:02:48see where does that make sense at?
- 1:02:51Just the post office. Nowhere.
- 1:02:53Just the post office, Yeah. You know, PO, I, I think PO VS
- 1:03:03there are situations where PO VS are good, but if we can get
- 1:03:08vehicles that are actually decent for rural carriers in
- 1:03:12rural areas, that would be great.
- 1:03:15You know, my L, our LO VS you know, Kristen can attest that
- 1:03:18we've gone through some some stuff with these LL VS that they
- 1:03:22probably shouldn't have made it through.
- 1:03:24Oh, I got stories. Oh yeah, you know there are
- 1:03:29there are 4 wheel drive FM VS out there.
- 1:03:33But we definitely need a rural specific vehicle for delivery.
- 1:03:40The NGDV. You give me an NGDV on my route,
- 1:03:44I'll RIP the bottom out of it in a week.
- 1:03:47It's too low to the ground on my route.
- 1:03:50Yeah, you know, and, and I've looked at some of the other
- 1:03:54options they have out there and really the canoe is probably the
- 1:03:57only vehicle that has the ground clearance to handle rural
- 1:04:01routes. But it doesn't have the capacity
- 1:04:04for a lot of these rural route packages that we get because
- 1:04:07Amazon's still not delivering in most of the rural areas.
- 1:04:11Amazon's drop in the dog food bags, the large groupings of
- 1:04:16toilet paper boxes and things like that, and paper towels on
- 1:04:20these rural routes. I've seen pictures of carriers
- 1:04:23who have their second and third trip is a completely full postal
- 1:04:30LLV and it's crazy to think that we can't figure out a solution
- 1:04:38that works for rural when everybody at national office is
- 1:04:42focused on city delivery. Yeah.
- 1:04:48And, and what's wrong with, you know, getting these canoes out
- 1:04:51there? Cost.
- 1:04:56Bus. Cost.
- 1:05:00Are they a bus? No, they're so they're an
- 1:05:04electric vehicle, so you'd have to have the infrastructure.
- 1:05:09Well, all of them. All of them.
- 1:05:13Well, the ones that they're testing at the Postal Service
- 1:05:15are electric. Right, yes, their their their
- 1:05:19first model was a, you know, internal hybrid engine and they
- 1:05:24had 4 wheel drive options on them.
- 1:05:28That would be great. I mean having a vehicle that is
- 1:05:31specific for just rural delivery would be a big benefit overall
- 1:05:36because rural carriers need assistance with their vehicles.
- 1:05:43It is not cost effective for carriers to support APOV of
- 1:05:49modern times. Sure you can go out and buy a
- 1:05:522025 year old vehicle, but you're still paying almost
- 1:05:56double price for parts these days for even those vehicles.
- 1:06:01And it's if you can find them locally, otherwise you're stuck
- 1:06:04having to order them and who knows how long that could take
- 1:06:07to get to you. Yeah, it's it.
- 1:06:12I know. I drove my, my best POV I ever
- 1:06:15had was a 93 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra that lasted me almost
- 1:06:20five years. You know, the only reason I got
- 1:06:24rid of it is because the timing went and I had don't put quite a
- 1:06:28bit of money into that car. The Fort N wagon was pretty
- 1:06:33decent too. I know a rural carrier who
- 1:06:37bought a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee right hand drive and is still
- 1:06:41driving it to this day and may retire from the post office.
- 1:06:45Yeah, yeah, that's what the brand new RCA got was the one of
- 1:06:51the, I don't know what year it is, but it's one of the
- 1:06:53Cherokees and it's in really great condition.
- 1:06:57I don't know where he got it, but you know, and he's not even
- 1:07:01going on the POV route, but then.
- 1:07:06You know, it gets me. You say, yeah, you're you're
- 1:07:08talking about repairs on these vehicles.
- 1:07:10OK, how about just the regular maintenance on them, getting the
- 1:07:15time off for that? I mean, you know, that's what
- 1:07:19keeps you from getting into these repair situations is
- 1:07:22maintenance. All you know, I need you to work
- 1:07:24your drop day. I'm getting my vehicle worked
- 1:07:26on. Not this week.
- 1:07:28Well, you know, next week if I put a transmission in, guess
- 1:07:32what I'm coming after. You.
- 1:07:37Yeah. All right, guys.
- 1:07:42Do we have anything else? No.
- 1:07:52This man as hell, you know, you see comments about ADR is not
- 1:07:55pursuing things. Yeah, our, our national board
- 1:07:59not pursuing things. The post office just dumbasses.
- 1:08:04It, it just, it's very frustrating.
- 1:08:07It really is. And I, and I can understand
- 1:08:09like, like I said in my, in my SD and C that the highway
- 1:08:12contractor going off on the district manager, they're there
- 1:08:17to do a job and the two of them are handling 3 Hwy. routes for
- 1:08:23the last four months. And you're going to get on this
- 1:08:28guy's shit for, for bringing over 3 ampers at once instead of
- 1:08:32two. Yo, God help you, you be
- 1:08:35efficient, right? The, the egos, the arrogance of
- 1:08:42these people is just astounding. Oh, earthquake, I'm sorry I
- 1:08:52farted. Oh, boy.
- 1:08:55All right, James, your final thoughts for this evening?
- 1:09:00Well, this has been a very exciting episode this week,
- 1:09:07going from really depressing to angry to fun to angry.
- 1:09:15But the biggest thing that I want to take everybody to take
- 1:09:18away is out of all of this, the three of us here on this podcast
- 1:09:25stand with everyone of you. We're here for you.
- 1:09:29As you heard, every single one of us has talked to carriers
- 1:09:32this week and weeks past and stuff like that.
- 1:09:35And we're coming up on the worst week just before Christmas for
- 1:09:43package deliveries and things like that.
- 1:09:45You know, people are wanting their last minute items
- 1:09:47delivered to their house quickly.
- 1:09:50If you're feeling overwhelmed, if you're feeling stressed out
- 1:09:52and you need somebody to talk to, reach out to us.
- 1:09:56We're here for you. And don't think that it's a
- 1:09:58burden or a bother if it's if it if we're not available, we're
- 1:10:03not going to respond, but we'll respond when we're actually
- 1:10:06available. So reach out, because at the end
- 1:10:11of the day, we're all in this together, Bill.
- 1:10:16And he and he's right, you know, even though I'm retired, I'm
- 1:10:22fielding more calls and messaging than I ever imagined.
- 1:10:25And you know what I'm happy to do So I, I, I'm, I'm more than
- 1:10:31willing to help pitch in for the fight that's ahead of you,
- 1:10:36that's ongoing. And if I can be of service,
- 1:10:40message me. Call me if you have my number.
- 1:10:43If you don't have my number, don't call me, but the fact of
- 1:10:46the matter is that we are here for you and we do this every
- 1:10:51week for you. I'm, you know, sure that James
- 1:10:55and Kristen, you know, would find other things to do, but the
- 1:10:59fact of the matter is we prefer to give our time to you.
- 1:11:03No pay, no accolades, no praise, just so we can be a service
- 1:11:09because you know what it's like to be out there.
- 1:11:13We sympathize and we empathize and we understand.
- 1:11:17So anytime you want to reach out, we're here.
- 1:11:20We don't get back to you right away.
- 1:11:22We'll get back to you because unlike your national board, we
- 1:11:27care. Everybody be safe.
- 1:11:30It's going to be a rough week coming up.
- 1:11:33Just do the best you can. Do it safely, professionally,
- 1:11:38get your ass home because you're the most important delivery at
- 1:11:40the end of the day, Kristen. Thank you, guys.
- 1:11:45Yeah, definitely. Today's episode has been kind of
- 1:11:49all over the place. But yeah, no, definitely, you
- 1:11:55know, stand up for yourself, you know, help urge those that you
- 1:12:01work with to stand up for themselves, you know, be the be
- 1:12:05that one that leads the way and it inspires everyone else to, to
- 1:12:11step up as well. But yeah, that's, you know, this
- 1:12:15week. I know this past week was super
- 1:12:18light for me. The week before we got hammered,
- 1:12:23you know, the week before Christmas OT starts, I was
- 1:12:25working 10/11/12 hour days a week.
- 1:12:30And then last week I was at evaluation or under with no
- 1:12:36help. I have a feeling I'm going to be
- 1:12:39walking into hell tomorrow. So everybody in house, stay safe
- 1:12:44out there. You know it gets to be 8:00 PM.
- 1:12:49Safety is your call, plain and simple.
- 1:12:52Safety is your call out on the route.
- 1:12:54It doesn't matter if it's Blizzard conditions, darkness,
- 1:12:58ice, you know, tornadoes, God forbid.
- 1:13:03Safety is your call once you get on the out on that street.
- 1:13:06So make that call to stay safe and we shall be back next week
- 1:13:14guys. Everybody have a good one.
- 1:13:29Macho, macho man. I want to be your macho man.
- 1:13:37Yeah, technical difficulties, it's not United.
- 1:13:40We scan without technical difficulties.
