- 0:12Speaker 1: First Light Go Farther, Stay Longer, and now your hosts
- 0:17Speaker 1: ca C. Smith and Tyler Jones.
- 0:21Speaker 2: The country's in a holding pattern with hot weather and
- 0:24Speaker 2: potential bad weather depending on where you're at.
- 0:26Speaker 3: But if you know where the deer are, you can
- 0:28Speaker 3: get on them.
- 0:28Speaker 4: This is rot Fresh.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 0:47Speaker 4: What's going on, y'all.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Welcome to Refresh Radio, brought to you about First Light
- 0:50Speaker 2: year Casey Smith, Tyler Jones. We're interviewing deer experts from
- 0:55Speaker 2: around the country that know exactly what the watchailer doing
- 1:00Speaker 2: on your property, and they'll tell you what trees stand
- 1:02Speaker 2: to be in here in just a few minutes.
- 1:05Speaker 4: But all jokes aside.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I feel like we've got some pretty valuable information this week,
- 1:10Speaker 2: and thankful for it.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Tyler, you've been deer hunting as well. I have, man,
- 1:15Speaker 4: just tell me what you have learned about deer in
- 1:18Speaker 4: the past week. So I have I have. I have
- 1:20Speaker 4: one thing that I it was solidified as it wasn't
- 1:24Speaker 4: necessarily learned because I learned this in twenty twenty one.
- 1:29Speaker 4: I solidified a thing that I came up with a
- 1:35Speaker 4: couple of years back called the thermal stall, oh and
- 1:40Speaker 4: the ts I think it was, which we decided that TSS,
- 1:45Speaker 4: which is a you know, shotgun shell is also it
- 1:50Speaker 4: stands for a turkey snood chooter on the way back.
- 1:54Speaker 4: But the thermal stall is a thing that deer do,
- 1:58Speaker 4: at least in a certain part of the country. I
- 2:00Speaker 4: have seen this happen, and I would imagine it translates
- 2:02Speaker 4: to many places in the country where a deer will
- 2:06Speaker 4: move into cover and stop and not do hardly anything
- 2:10Speaker 4: and not go anywhere even in the daylight of the
- 2:14Speaker 4: morning until the thermal action begins to start, and then
- 2:18Speaker 4: the deer will move into that thermal wind to betting
- 2:22Speaker 4: and potentially up to three quarters of a mile of
- 2:27Speaker 4: movement in broad daylight. But as long as they have
- 2:30Speaker 4: that thermal head, you know, working into their nose, they
- 2:32Speaker 4: feel pretty good about it. So we confirmed that that
- 2:34Speaker 4: was a thing that's happening right now. And I think
- 2:36Speaker 4: it's an early season thing a lot too for a
- 2:38Speaker 4: couple of reasons, right because you don't have the rut.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Going on, the rut changes a lot of this, right.
- 2:45Speaker 4: And then also in the early season, we still have
- 2:48Speaker 4: these kind of warm days and you start to see
- 2:52Speaker 4: where the nights will cool off some. And I think
- 2:55Speaker 4: that what that means is there's a lot of thermal
- 2:57Speaker 4: action and also your wind will die at that time
- 3:01Speaker 4: as well. A lot of times, so as the as
- 3:04Speaker 4: the earth heats up during the morning, you see where
- 3:07Speaker 4: a thermal rise will start to create a wind, and
- 3:10Speaker 4: then you've got a windy day, and then that wind
- 3:13Speaker 4: as it cools off and the sun sinks lower, will
- 3:15Speaker 4: start to die out, and then you will find where
- 3:18Speaker 4: your thermal will really fall. And I think it's emphasized
- 3:21Speaker 4: in September and October especially.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, makes sense, man, you know, I think that I've
- 3:27Speaker 2: seen this happen. And if you're hunting public land, it
- 3:31Speaker 2: gets tough because a lot of times where the deer
- 3:34Speaker 2: doing that at is a place you can't access. But
- 3:36Speaker 2: if you hunt private land, maybe you can, maybe you
- 3:39Speaker 2: can't because you don't have as much access because there's
- 3:41Speaker 2: a lot more public land a lot of times. So
- 3:43Speaker 2: it's I think it's what a lot of people call
- 3:46Speaker 2: staging areas.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Sometimes you think about it in the evening a lot more.
- 3:50Speaker 4: That's probably that's probably where you know, that's probably what
- 3:53Speaker 4: the term means. I think a lot of people have
- 3:55Speaker 4: always talked about staging areas though, and more of a
- 3:57Speaker 4: sense of cover. Yeah, it's like, so I'm gonna stage
- 4:00Speaker 4: here prior to leaving out to this beanfield. And maybe
- 4:03Speaker 4: that's what it is. I don't know too, but it
- 4:04Speaker 4: could be that that staging area these people are seeing,
- 4:07Speaker 4: they're just not realizing it's because of thermals.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah, well, there's there's potential there that at least I'm
- 4:11Speaker 2: just going to speak for my own personal experiences. I've
- 4:15Speaker 2: always thought about staging areas very remediately on my own
- 4:19Speaker 2: part and just thinking, oh, they got there too early,
- 4:21Speaker 2: so they're waiting until it gets dark to go out there.
- 4:24Speaker 2: But deer really don't do very many things unintentionally, you know,
- 4:28Speaker 2: They're very intentional with almost every.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Step they take. Pretty much only goal is to survive.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, so they do weird things all the time because
- 4:36Speaker 2: they know to do a weird thing, right, Like they
- 4:39Speaker 2: just they move just a little bit just for no reason,
- 4:41Speaker 2: right and whatever. And so I think that there's a
- 4:45Speaker 2: region the reason that you have a staging area, and
- 4:48Speaker 2: it's probably in some senses at least because they know
- 4:52Speaker 2: they can stay there and get a good whiff of
- 4:54Speaker 2: stuff before they move out.
- 4:56Speaker 4: You know another thing that I should we should maybe
- 4:58Speaker 4: debunk a little bit here is that I think, to
- 5:04Speaker 4: go with your point of deer doing weird things, I
- 5:06Speaker 4: think when you see a buck that's old, that gets old,
- 5:09Speaker 4: a big buck, I think a lot of times people
- 5:12Speaker 4: like to be like, oh, it's an old smart buck.
- 5:14Speaker 4: And I think deer very instinctual, and instead of that
- 5:18Speaker 4: buck actually being smart, I think whatever his instincts are,
- 5:23Speaker 4: or whatever his personality traits are. Not to personify a deer,
- 5:28Speaker 4: but like you know what, I mean, his character characteristics,
- 5:30Speaker 4: how he thinks about, how he goes about whatever. I
- 5:33Speaker 4: think that those things, if he doesn't do things that
- 5:37Speaker 4: are similar to other deer, or if he does things
- 5:40Speaker 4: that are kind of odd because of his personality traits
- 5:42Speaker 4: or whatever you want to say, that makes him hard
- 5:45Speaker 4: to kill. And that's why he gets old. It's not
- 5:47Speaker 4: because he's a smart deer. You know, he's probably hasn't
- 5:50Speaker 4: like necessarily, I mean, they can definitely learn some things
- 5:53Speaker 4: if they have the potential to learn. Yeah, sure, but
- 5:56Speaker 4: it's not. It's more that I think a lot of
- 5:58Speaker 4: times a deer gets old is because he does weird things,
- 6:02Speaker 4: and he goes to weird places and he prefers weird
- 6:05Speaker 4: betting and stuff like that. You know, I think there's
- 6:09Speaker 4: definitely ability to learn. So I'm not trying to really
- 6:11Speaker 4: de bonk. I'm just kind of being a little bit uh,
- 6:14Speaker 4: you know, flip side of the court here.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I do think it's funny how I thought about this
- 6:18Speaker 2: the other day. I was watching something or listening to something.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Somebody said, Oh, he's just a smart old buck because
- 6:23Speaker 2: he did a thing that like almost like would it
- 6:28Speaker 2: imply that the deer predicted there would be a guy
- 6:30Speaker 2: that true? Yep, that's right. And it's like that's just
- 6:32Speaker 2: not how they're thinking, you know. You know, but have
- 6:37Speaker 2: you ever watched The Prices Right.
- 6:40Speaker 4: It's been a minute.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, when you're sick, when you're a kid, The Prices
- 6:43Speaker 2: Right was on about eleven, you know, and you got
- 6:45Speaker 2: to watch that and there was a game on there
- 6:47Speaker 2: called Plinko.
- 6:48Speaker 4: You're familiar to Plinko. Yeah, I feel like they dropped
- 6:51Speaker 4: this thing. It looks like a big old shot the
- 6:53Speaker 4: armored catfish, is it? No, that's that's a pleco So
- 6:57Speaker 4: glad you brought that up though. That was cool.
- 7:01Speaker 2: So plinko essentially is the representation of a bell curve
- 7:06Speaker 2: on an individual basis. So, but you have the ability
- 7:10Speaker 2: to manipulate depending on where you drop the puck. But effectively,
- 7:14Speaker 2: if you drop the puck right in the middle, say that, uh,
- 7:18Speaker 2: that figuratively is the birth of a deer. Okay, And
- 7:22Speaker 2: that deer that that puck is likely maybe likely isn't
- 7:27Speaker 2: the right word. The highest odds of that thing is
- 7:30Speaker 2: hitting right in the very middle. But because of the
- 7:33Speaker 2: bell curve principle, you'll have times whenever that's going to
- 7:37Speaker 2: hit way on the outside margins.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Okay.
- 7:39Speaker 2: And that's kind of what you're talking about when deer
- 7:42Speaker 2: characteristics A I would say the majority of deer are
- 7:47Speaker 2: going to have characteristics that get them killed or shot,
- 7:50Speaker 2: which are the same thing.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Sometimes. Yeah, it depends on get killed or nicked you know,
- 8:01Speaker 5: at an earlier age. But on these margins out here,
- 8:05Speaker 5: and those margins, it's not a circle ride, it's a
- 8:07Speaker 5: linear graph. And so in these margins you got deer
- 8:11Speaker 5: that survived are really old age and it's way less
- 8:13Speaker 5: than it is in that middle hump. Okay, And I
- 8:17Speaker 5: like this example because in the margins in my mind,
- 8:19Speaker 5: there are a deer that are living way out in
- 8:21Speaker 5: the middle of nowhere that are like a real secluded
- 8:25Speaker 5: and they get real wary because they're old and they've
- 8:28Speaker 5: outwitted the coyotes to time or two and they might
- 8:31Speaker 5: not ever see a person.
- 8:32Speaker 4: And then on the other end of.
- 8:33Speaker 2: The scale, there's a deer like we have on trail
- 8:35Speaker 2: camera that's six years old and lives between two neighborhoods
- 8:40Speaker 2: that also has figured out a niche and maybe it's
- 8:43Speaker 2: not even figured out, but where his puck landed on
- 8:45Speaker 2: Plinko was in a spot that he gets to survive
- 8:47Speaker 2: to be an old age.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like that deer can live, like I said,
- 8:50Speaker 4: between two neighborhoods and never get shot even though there's
- 8:54Speaker 4: people hunting around him, because like because for whatever, like okay,
- 9:00Speaker 4: you know how some people are like night owls and
- 9:02Speaker 4: some people are morning people, right, that might be the
- 9:05Speaker 4: characteristic that keeps him alive, Like he might be for
- 9:08Speaker 4: whatever reason, he might just like not be very diurnal
- 9:10Speaker 4: at all.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Exactly it And it's not that he learned it, but
- 9:15Speaker 2: it's just because you know, his twin from the womb
- 9:18Speaker 2: maybe even was a buck that liked to daylight walk,
- 9:21Speaker 2: uh huh, and it got killed. And in this book
- 9:23Speaker 2: just because of his nature likes to not time walk.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you live. He might be warm natured, you know
- 9:28Speaker 4: what I mean. It's like people that like hot nature,
- 9:30Speaker 4: they always want the ac on, you know, Well that
- 9:32Speaker 4: deer just wants the nighttime ac on. You know, it
- 9:35Speaker 4: could be so many things, And I think that that's
- 9:36Speaker 4: what's cool about deer is because we will never know that,
- 9:39Speaker 4: like we will never actually figure deer out. And that's
- 9:42Speaker 4: what makes this stuff so much fun. Man.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Well, if your deer are warm natured, it doesn't seem
- 9:46Speaker 2: like it's going to be a great week for you
- 9:47Speaker 2: because everybody, I think most people at least talked about
- 9:50Speaker 2: how we have a warming trend coming up over the
- 9:53Speaker 2: next week. But we do have some details about how
- 9:56Speaker 2: you could potentially still get on deer in your neck
- 9:58Speaker 2: of the woods. Tyler, who do we have this week?
- 10:00Speaker 4: So we're gonna hear from Logan right in Wisconsin, one
- 10:03Speaker 4: of the best deer hunting states of all time, potentially
- 10:06Speaker 4: the best deer hunter of all time. Uh. And then
- 10:08Speaker 4: we also have Jared Mills from Iowa right down the road.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Uh.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Eli House is going to be in Alabama. He's been
- 10:16Speaker 4: doing some cool stuff, so we're gonna get a little
- 10:17Speaker 4: bit of that pre red Alabama action. And then we've
- 10:20Speaker 4: got Jay Gaylord from Hunter's Advantage. He's been in Oklahoma
- 10:23Speaker 4: chasing the hard masked drop that's happening there and he's
- 10:27Speaker 4: gonna be telling us how to get on deer. All right.
- 10:30Speaker 4: I've got Logan right here. He's been up in Wisconsin
- 10:32Speaker 4: doing some hunting. Logan, what's been going on? Man?
- 10:35Speaker 6: Oh, it's it's been pretty good, honestly, really good, good hunting.
- 10:41Speaker 4: We kill good hunting.
- 10:43Speaker 6: Kill the buck on Friday, my girlfriend did, and I
- 10:47Speaker 6: just no complaints when you kill one, you know.
- 10:49Speaker 4: The first week in October, sure thing, dude. What's the
- 10:51Speaker 4: weather been like up there?
- 10:54Speaker 3: Up until last week?
- 10:57Speaker 7: Midweek we got a cold.
- 10:58Speaker 6: Front that kind of pushed in. It had been like
- 11:00Speaker 6: eighty upper seventies, eighties, and then it dropped down to
- 11:05Speaker 6: sixty five last week for a couple of days and
- 11:08Speaker 6: we were able to sink out.
- 11:10Speaker 4: So that cold front was was was that why you
- 11:13Speaker 4: left out to hunt or is that why the deer
- 11:16Speaker 4: changed what they were doing and gave you a shot?
- 11:19Speaker 7: Well a little bit of both.
- 11:21Speaker 6: My girlfriend coaches high school volleyball, so her schedule is
- 11:26Speaker 6: atrocious for trying to get out deer hunting, especially with
- 11:30Speaker 6: a two year old kid at home.
- 11:32Speaker 4: And she had off Friday, Saturday.
- 11:35Speaker 6: Sunday that weekend, and we had planned to hunt it
- 11:39Speaker 6: already and it just happened to be a cold front
- 11:43Speaker 6: pushing through at the same time, which was you know,
- 11:46Speaker 6: having sent I guess.
- 11:47Speaker 3: So, was that your student still doing like a bid
- 11:50Speaker 3: to feed thing?
- 11:52Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 11:53Speaker 6: I would say we hunted pretty much in the bedroom
- 11:57Speaker 6: with a pretty good area for buff betting, especially I
- 12:03Speaker 6: would say early October I.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Hunted that general area. So yeah, I mean we were
- 12:12Speaker 4: on top of deer.
- 12:12Speaker 6: We actually jumped what we assumed was the target buck
- 12:17Speaker 6: that we went in there to kill. And on the
- 12:19Speaker 6: walk in where we were in like within twenty yards
- 12:22Speaker 6: of where we were going to set up, and I
- 12:25Speaker 6: heard one sounded like a freight train getting out of there,
- 12:28Speaker 6: and we were pretty discouraged, but got up in the tree,
- 12:31Speaker 6: saw a out of deer and had this one come
- 12:33Speaker 6: through about six o'clock, so an hour before and illegal here. Wow, man,
- 12:39Speaker 6: so how did you know the bed was there? So
- 12:44Speaker 6: this is a I've talked to you about it before,
- 12:46Speaker 6: but this is a little tiny twenty acre property that
- 12:49Speaker 6: I hunt and pretty much the whole thing is to
- 12:53Speaker 6: cover and the general area in the early months, I
- 12:58Speaker 6: would say end of September to mid October. It seems
- 13:02Speaker 6: like in the past few years it's really narrowed down
- 13:05Speaker 6: that it's where the where the bucks like to be
- 13:08Speaker 6: vetted within them about one hundred yard radio so where
- 13:11Speaker 6: we were.
- 13:12Speaker 4: So in the next week or so, do you think
- 13:14Speaker 4: that you would still stay close to bedding or are
- 13:17Speaker 4: you going to start doing some more movement get you know,
- 13:19Speaker 4: where you're gonna be able to, you know, get a
- 13:21Speaker 4: shot at them, closer to food sources and that kind
- 13:24Speaker 4: of thing.
- 13:25Speaker 6: I think. I think scrapes you're going to be killer
- 13:28Speaker 6: in the next week or so. Is like it's it's
- 13:31Speaker 6: hot today up here, and it's supposed to be pretty
- 13:34Speaker 6: mild for the next few days and then by the
- 13:38Speaker 6: weekend we're looking at another pretty good cold push with
- 13:41Speaker 6: some lows in the in the upper thirties. But you
- 13:44Speaker 6: know enough to enough to get them deer really really
- 13:48Speaker 6: starting to think about it for sure?
- 13:50Speaker 4: Man, have you seen any scrapes opened up so far?
- 13:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I would say over the So I hunted, actually
- 13:56Speaker 6: I got to hunt Friday with her. I hunted Saturday
- 13:58Speaker 6: afternoon and Sunday morning and afternoon and saw I don't know,
- 14:03Speaker 6: probably a dozen scrapes when I was bouncing around between
- 14:06Speaker 6: checking cameras and hunting. So there they started thinking about it.
- 14:09Speaker 4: That's awesome, dude. So scrapes in the next week or so,
- 14:12Speaker 4: what do you think in the next week, based off
- 14:17Speaker 4: of weather or moon or anything like that, or just
- 14:21Speaker 4: even time and time of year, what do you think
- 14:22Speaker 4: the deer the buck movement will be like on a
- 14:24Speaker 4: scale of one to ten.
- 14:27Speaker 6: With the cold push, I'll give it an eight. I'm
- 14:30Speaker 6: a I'm a I'm a big October guy, though I
- 14:32Speaker 6: don't believe in no.
- 14:33Speaker 4: No October, little man. So Halloween, you're gonna be trick
- 14:38Speaker 4: or treating or you're gonna be hunting.
- 14:40Speaker 6: Ideally hunting, but not in not in this state. I'm
- 14:43Speaker 6: hoping to be tagged out in Wisconsin Halloween.
- 14:46Speaker 4: All right, man, So scrapes are going to be an
- 14:48Speaker 4: eight in the next week or so, in your opinion, Yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 4: up here for sure.
- 14:53Speaker 7: I don't know about everywhere else.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Texas is gonna be different. I would, I
- 14:56Speaker 4: would bet you well. I appreciate the report, man, and uh,
- 15:00Speaker 4: maybe we'll check back in with you sometime later this year,
- 15:02Speaker 4: see if you're in a different state or something.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 15:06Speaker 3: I've got Jared Mills on the phone now.
- 15:08Speaker 2: He's been hunting in Iowa, and uh, he actually sounds
- 15:12Speaker 2: like I just had some good success last night.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Jared, tell me, man, you shoot a big buck?
- 15:17Speaker 4: I did.
- 15:18Speaker 8: It was a good timing you and I scheduled this
- 15:21Speaker 8: call and then I headed to the woods and killed
- 15:23Speaker 8: one shortly after that, so kind of kind of cool
- 15:26Speaker 8: it worked out that way.
- 15:27Speaker 4: It's a good time to catch up. Awesome.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Man, tell me the next time you need a tag
- 15:31Speaker 2: field and we'll schedule another one.
- 15:32Speaker 4: You know exactly.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Well, you know, I know you you're a big buck killer,
- 15:38Speaker 2: and for you to use a tag this early in
- 15:42Speaker 2: the month of October, it had to be pretty special. So, uh,
- 15:45Speaker 2: tell me how you I guess, like, what tactic you
- 15:49Speaker 2: were using to target a big deer this point in
- 15:52Speaker 2: the month.
- 15:53Speaker 8: Yeah, so it was actually on my second set of
- 15:56Speaker 8: the season, you know here and I will open up
- 15:58Speaker 8: October first, and I went out the opening day, But
- 16:02Speaker 8: then in between then and now or then and last night,
- 16:06Speaker 8: I was really focusing on getting my daughter her first year,
- 16:09Speaker 8: which we were able to do a few days ago,
- 16:11Speaker 8: and then I was out of town for Buddy's wedding
- 16:14Speaker 8: a couple of days for a couple of days, and
- 16:16Speaker 8: then got back and had another cold front come through.
- 16:20Speaker 8: So basically I made two sits so far this year, and.
- 16:24Speaker 4: They have both been on the back end of a
- 16:26Speaker 4: cold front.
- 16:26Speaker 8: And to me, that's kind of key for mature year
- 16:30Speaker 8: in this early I would say the first half of October,
- 16:35Speaker 8: that's really the recipe unless you're just right on the X.
- 16:38Speaker 8: But to get get these deer moving in daylight, these
- 16:41Speaker 8: mature bucks, it takes that cold or a little bit
- 16:44Speaker 8: cooler than normal temperatures, I should say, to get a moving.
- 16:48Speaker 8: Then the other thing is just being in the right
- 16:51Speaker 8: spot with regards to like, you know, these mature bucks
- 16:54Speaker 8: are are still you know, it's it's not quite the
- 16:58Speaker 8: pre rut yet, so there's there's still just you know,
- 17:02Speaker 8: mature animals that are going to use everything in their
- 17:05Speaker 8: favor with their guards, you know, the wind and thermals,
- 17:09Speaker 8: and so last night I was on the spot that
- 17:12Speaker 8: one of those kind of rare scenarios where the thermals
- 17:15Speaker 8: and scent and terrain and everything were really good for him,
- 17:19Speaker 8: but also for me in terms of how I was
- 17:22Speaker 8: able to get in out on on.
- 17:23Speaker 3: A creek ditch.
- 17:24Speaker 8: So it just just one of those spots where everything
- 17:26Speaker 8: came together. He was comfortable there, but I was still
- 17:29Speaker 8: able to slip in and get with him bow range.
- 17:32Speaker 4: That's awesome, dude.
- 17:33Speaker 2: So can you tell me what you mean when you
- 17:36Speaker 2: say the backside of a cold front? Is that a
- 17:38Speaker 2: specific time or is it do you just mean kind
- 17:40Speaker 2: of after it's hit kind.
- 17:42Speaker 8: Of the first full day after it hits is usually
- 17:45Speaker 8: I mean, that first day that it hits can be
- 17:48Speaker 8: really good. It just depends on when it when it
- 17:50Speaker 8: comes through and what the conditions are. You know, a
- 17:52Speaker 8: lot of times you have that first day when it's
- 17:55Speaker 8: coming in you have a little bit higher wind speed
- 17:58Speaker 8: the north or west, cooling things down, and that can
- 18:02Speaker 8: be a good time too. But I've overall seen a
- 18:05Speaker 8: little bit more success on that first full day when
- 18:09Speaker 8: the you know, the pressure is up. That next day
- 18:12Speaker 8: the winds calm down a little bit, but it's still cooler.
- 18:14Speaker 8: Tempts those just I love those nights, you know, if
- 18:18Speaker 8: you can hear everything come in as long as you
- 18:21Speaker 8: don't get too light of wind that it's that it's
- 18:24Speaker 8: you know, pretty variable and you get yourself in a
- 18:27Speaker 8: in a spot that can get you in trouble, it
- 18:31Speaker 8: can be killer for for this hunts just. I mean
- 18:34Speaker 8: you feel like you have all your senses a deer
- 18:37Speaker 8: or comfortable movement just because it's cooler weather. And like
- 18:40Speaker 8: I said, those thermal spots, if you can find a
- 18:43Speaker 8: spot where those light wind speeds you know, don't affect
- 18:47Speaker 8: you too much because you're pulling your thermal thermals down
- 18:50Speaker 8: into a low spot. To me, that's as good as
- 18:53Speaker 8: it gets this time of year.
- 18:54Speaker 4: So you know, in the next I don't know, a
- 18:57Speaker 4: week or so, maybe as we get closer to the
- 19:00Speaker 4: red I know you said there really wasn't a ton
- 19:02Speaker 4: of like rutting action that you're seeing. Do you think
- 19:05Speaker 4: things are going to pick up some or do you
- 19:08Speaker 4: expect it to be pretty similar to as far as
- 19:11Speaker 4: the dear action goes to what you've been seeing.
- 19:15Speaker 8: I think the only thing that's really going to hurt us,
- 19:17Speaker 8: and I'm kind of been kind of looking at the
- 19:19Speaker 8: forecast here is just warmer tempts.
- 19:21Speaker 3: It's going to be for the next.
- 19:23Speaker 8: Six or seven days, it's going to be hotter than average,
- 19:26Speaker 8: and that that quickly subdues deer movement. But you know,
- 19:30Speaker 8: as far as the activity, it's going to keep ramping
- 19:34Speaker 8: up from the standpoint of what bucks are doing. And
- 19:36Speaker 8: I've seen a huge shift just in the last week
- 19:39Speaker 8: of mature buck activity. So this bucket I killed last night,
- 19:43Speaker 8: for example. You know, up until a week and a
- 19:46Speaker 8: half ago, maybe two weeks ago, he was very passive
- 19:51Speaker 8: and everything is hard to get good pictures of of me.
- 19:54Speaker 8: Throughout the summer after velvet shit, it's hard to get
- 19:57Speaker 8: a good pictures of me. He's always walking in the background,
- 19:59Speaker 8: never coming into scrapes much.
- 20:03Speaker 4: You know I was.
- 20:04Speaker 8: I'd watch a field of a bunch of bunch of
- 20:06Speaker 8: bucks paired up sparring, and he'd be off on his
- 20:09Speaker 8: no no deer even look at him. He would just
- 20:11Speaker 8: be focused on feeding, doing his thing. You know, clearly
- 20:14Speaker 8: a different age class animal. But the last week and
- 20:18Speaker 8: a half two weeks has been a dramatic shifting activity
- 20:20Speaker 8: for him. He's been you know, marking just territory like
- 20:23Speaker 8: crazy in every scrape, aggressively working at just just almost
- 20:29Speaker 8: a light switch and activity, uh for him and and
- 20:33Speaker 8: other mature bucks that I have on camera too.
- 20:35Speaker 3: It's it's one of my favorite.
- 20:37Speaker 8: Things to watch that that uptick and movement and you know,
- 20:42Speaker 8: territorial kind of behavior from these mature bucks. And I
- 20:46Speaker 8: think that'll keep ramping up, especially as we entered you know,
- 20:51Speaker 8: mid October to the late latter half when they really
- 20:54Speaker 8: start looking for that first at.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's the time that we get really excited about.
- 20:59Speaker 2: So for right now at least looking forward for the
- 21:01Speaker 2: next week, you know, it seems like across the country
- 21:04Speaker 2: that the crops are coming out a little bit early,
- 21:07Speaker 2: but we do have these warmer temps coming up as well,
- 21:09Speaker 2: you know, kind of like that you know, late warm movement.
- 21:15Speaker 2: What do you think you're going to rate the the
- 21:18Speaker 2: buck movement on a scale of one to ten for
- 21:20Speaker 2: the next week.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I think daylight movement.
- 21:25Speaker 8: I think it's going to be relatively slow, you know,
- 21:28Speaker 8: all trying to go with like a five. But activity
- 21:32Speaker 8: in general, except I think a lot of it will
- 21:35Speaker 8: be nighttime, but I think we're going to keep seeing
- 21:38Speaker 8: these bucks move around a little bit. They're just gonna
- 21:40Speaker 8: wait till cooler temps and that's usually you know, after
- 21:43Speaker 8: dark or or early mornings too. I see a lot
- 21:46Speaker 8: of morning activity out of bucks this time of year.
- 21:50Speaker 8: The problem is, most of the time the risk isn't
- 21:53Speaker 8: worth worth it, you know, trying to get in there
- 21:56Speaker 8: before them. It's just just tough to get in mornings
- 22:00Speaker 8: this time of year. But if you have a spot,
- 22:02Speaker 8: it works. I do see a lot more movement, daylight
- 22:06Speaker 8: movement in the mornings as opposed to the evenings this
- 22:08Speaker 8: time of year, just because of the temperature.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Yeah, makes sense, man, Well, very cool stuff.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Do you. Congrats on the buck. Can't wait to see
- 22:15Speaker 2: it on YouTube. And I hope you have a good
- 22:17Speaker 2: rest of the season.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it.
- 22:36Speaker 4: All right. We're talking to Eli House. He's out in
- 22:38Speaker 4: Alabama and he's been doing some deer hunting with traditional equipment.
- 22:42Speaker 8: How's that been going, Man, it's been going great. Just
- 22:46Speaker 8: kicking off the season. Excited for the rest of it.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Yeah, did you have some success recently you want to
- 22:52Speaker 4: talk about?
- 22:53Speaker 7: I did yesterday evening.
- 22:55Speaker 8: Man, I just got into traditional archery, which I'm hunting
- 22:59Speaker 8: to the recurve. Just got into it this year and
- 23:03Speaker 8: had some some sick success yesterday eating on my first
- 23:05Speaker 8: year with a recurve and ended up being a book.
- 23:09Speaker 4: So man, that's awesome, dude. I had a recurve that
- 23:14Speaker 4: my dad bought me a while back for Christmas. One
- 23:17Speaker 4: year is awesome, Martin. And I was getting to shooting learning,
- 23:21Speaker 4: you know, trying to learn best I could. About two
- 23:23Speaker 4: years ago a shooting live on Instagram and the boat
- 23:25Speaker 4: blew up, and so I'm not doing the recurve thing anymore.
- 23:29Speaker 4: So kudos to you for not blowing your bow up
- 23:31Speaker 4: and for shooting on with it. I'm sure you had
- 23:33Speaker 4: to get pretty close. Huh. Yeah, man, you have to
- 23:36Speaker 4: get rid of close.
- 23:37Speaker 8: I mean, I don't really trust myself at a long
- 23:39Speaker 8: distance like you know some people would.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Sure how close was that buck?
- 23:43Speaker 3: He was right at ten yards?
- 23:45Speaker 4: Ten or eleven yard? So sorry, the computer's made a
- 23:49Speaker 4: much noise. I'm gonna do edit here. Things are going wild.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Okay, all right back on it. Uh, okay, here we go,
- 24:07Speaker 2: Sorry about that, here we go. So your strategy has
- 24:13Speaker 2: to be to be real tight on the deer if
- 24:15Speaker 2: you use traditional stuff. Right, So it's super early season
- 24:19Speaker 2: in Alabama, I would say right, because I mean you're
- 24:21Speaker 2: looking at like December type rup dates.
- 24:23Speaker 3: So what are those deer doing right now?
- 24:27Speaker 4: Right now?
- 24:28Speaker 8: Our acorn crop is not good this year, So they're
- 24:31Speaker 8: looking for grains, they're looking for field edges, they're looking
- 24:34Speaker 8: for corn, any acorns they can find, whatever kind of
- 24:37Speaker 8: food source they can get on, they're going to be there.
- 24:39Speaker 2: So are you targeting like private agg fields and kind
- 24:43Speaker 2: of sitting up between bedd and food Basically?
- 24:46Speaker 8: Yes, I've got a piece of private that one of
- 24:49Speaker 8: my buddies lets me hunt on that is just basically
- 24:51Speaker 8: pastor land. He runs cows on it, and it's got
- 24:55Speaker 8: some you know, thick pine ridges running out around it,
- 24:58Speaker 8: and I try to get in between them and the
- 25:01Speaker 8: in the pasture land and on some of the field
- 25:04Speaker 8: edges of the pastors. I have some food plots that
- 25:07Speaker 8: I put in with just you know, five or six
- 25:10Speaker 8: way blends whatever and anything to kind of try to
- 25:13Speaker 8: attract deer.
- 25:14Speaker 3: How are you keeping the cows out of that food plot?
- 25:17Speaker 4: Oh?
- 25:18Speaker 8: Well, he's only got cows on certain certain pieces of
- 25:22Speaker 8: the property, so thankfully they're not back there, you know,
- 25:25Speaker 8: destroying it and keeping everything ate down.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Yeah for sure.
- 25:28Speaker 2: So did you have you know, eyes on deer or
- 25:31Speaker 2: did you go in blind or pre scout this or
- 25:33Speaker 2: how did you figure out, you know, kind of how
- 25:35Speaker 2: to get in between them.
- 25:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:37Speaker 8: So I've hunted the property for three or four years.
- 25:40Speaker 8: I actually took my biggest deer ever off of the
- 25:43Speaker 8: property two years ago with my rifle. So I've kind
- 25:48Speaker 8: of learned how what the deer do and what days
- 25:52Speaker 8: you know, certain bucks you can pattern to certain days,
- 25:54Speaker 8: and what the pressure I've learned, and I don't know
- 25:58Speaker 8: if it plays any part in it, but I've kind
- 26:01Speaker 8: of went off pressure this year, Like on the high
- 26:02Speaker 8: pressure days early season, I tend to see more deer
- 26:05Speaker 8: and I run a cell cam too on it, so
- 26:08Speaker 8: I kind of that helps you a lot, keeping up
- 26:10Speaker 8: with you know, what wind direction he's coming in on,
- 26:12Speaker 8: what the pressure is that day, what time all that.
- 26:15Speaker 4: So sure, So next week or so is what's the
- 26:18Speaker 4: barometric pressure gonna gonna look like? Good or bad?
- 26:21Speaker 8: It's supposed to supposed to be in the thirties after
- 26:24Speaker 8: tomorrow tonight.
- 26:25Speaker 7: It's supposed to get down.
- 26:26Speaker 8: It's been like high eighties every day on lows in
- 26:29Speaker 8: like the mid sixties. But this next week it's supposed
- 26:32Speaker 8: to get down low fifties and a few days in
- 26:35Speaker 8: the upper forties. So I'm supposed to be high pressure
- 26:38Speaker 8: and I'm excited about it. It's the first cold front
- 26:40Speaker 8: of the year. Season just opened, so I figure it's
- 26:43Speaker 8: going to get pretty good.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Yeah, what what what do you think you'll be doing
- 26:46Speaker 4: if you're trying to target a buck in the next
- 26:48Speaker 4: week or so. What's the key? Is it going to
- 26:51Speaker 4: be similar to what you're doing or something different?
- 26:53Speaker 8: It's probably going to be pretty similar. It's still early season.
- 26:56Speaker 8: Come come rut or really right there, beginning of November,
- 27:01Speaker 8: I'll start hitting some public and going and searching for
- 27:04Speaker 8: a monster.
- 27:05Speaker 2: If you end up with a frost pretty soon, does
- 27:07Speaker 2: that kind of change the way those food plots work?
- 27:10Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I like to I like to frost seed
- 27:15Speaker 8: some of my food plots with like clover and that
- 27:20Speaker 8: that tends to work pretty well.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Or either or either you know, cut it down.
- 27:24Speaker 8: As soon as that first hit frost hits a clover patch,
- 27:27Speaker 8: the deer hammer.
- 27:28Speaker 2: It really yep, interesting, gotcha? So there's even some tactic
- 27:33Speaker 2: as to what the plant and when to do it
- 27:35Speaker 2: for what they're going to hit.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:37Speaker 2: So whenever you talking about transition to this public stuff
- 27:39Speaker 2: here pretty soon, are you trying to make adjustments to
- 27:43Speaker 2: the way people are using the properties or you still
- 27:45Speaker 2: like just looking for regular bed to feed stuff.
- 27:49Speaker 8: I will when when I make my transition to public
- 27:52Speaker 8: I'm looking that's when I start hunting signs, scrapes, funnels,
- 27:55Speaker 8: stuff like that. Even before I rut every hits, those
- 27:58Speaker 8: bucks are still gonna be up on their food or
- 28:00Speaker 8: on their foot or on their feet sorry, checking for
- 28:05Speaker 8: you know, who's hitting, what's great and what buck's doing what,
- 28:09Speaker 8: whether they're on the dose yet or not?
- 28:12Speaker 4: Yeah, got you cool.
- 28:13Speaker 2: So if you're looking at the next week here, you know,
- 28:16Speaker 2: there's a there's a big system in the Gulf. I
- 28:18Speaker 2: don't know if it's gonna bring you any moisture, but
- 28:19Speaker 2: it might actually, you know, kind of give you some
- 28:22Speaker 2: weird wind directions I would imagine for normal Right, and
- 28:24Speaker 2: then you calculate that in with just the kind of
- 28:25Speaker 2: those cool temperatures that you said are on the way.
- 28:29Speaker 2: How do you expect the dear move it's going to
- 28:30Speaker 2: be on a scale of one to ten over the
- 28:32Speaker 2: next week.
- 28:34Speaker 4: Man.
- 28:35Speaker 8: With the cooler weather, I expected to be on a
- 28:37Speaker 8: scale of one to ten around the six or seven,
- 28:39Speaker 8: to be honest, compared to what they've been doing, you know,
- 28:43Speaker 8: mainly night time movement. It being as hot as it
- 28:46Speaker 8: has been. I don't think the hurricane is going to
- 28:48Speaker 8: have too much of an effect on them. But I could
- 28:50Speaker 8: be completely wrong, but I figure it's going to be
- 28:53Speaker 8: on a on a six or seven.
- 28:54Speaker 4: That's good, man, It's it's going to get pretty good.
- 28:56Speaker 4: So picking up into maybe a seven in Alabama this
- 29:00Speaker 4: week coming up.
- 29:01Speaker 8: Man.
- 29:01Speaker 4: I appreciate the report, Eli, and I hope you get
- 29:03Speaker 4: to shoot a bunch of more deer this year. I
- 29:06Speaker 4: hope so too. Man.
- 29:08Speaker 2: I've got Jake gay Lord with Hunter's Advantage on the
- 29:10Speaker 2: phone right now. He has been doing some hunting up
- 29:12Speaker 2: in Oklahoma. What's happening, dude, Oh?
- 29:15Speaker 7: Not a lot, not a lot. What's been going on
- 29:17Speaker 7: with you guys?
- 29:18Speaker 2: Well, right now, we're just all laughing and having a
- 29:20Speaker 2: good time in East Texas.
- 29:22Speaker 3: But we've been doing some hunting here and there and everywhere,
- 29:24Speaker 3: you know.
- 29:24Speaker 2: But it is that time of year when we're all
- 29:26Speaker 2: thinking about deer, and quite honestly, a lot of us
- 29:28Speaker 2: are getting overly enthusiastic about what's going on in the
- 29:31Speaker 2: deer woods because we're ready, we're itching to get out.
- 29:34Speaker 3: And you have been out right and there in Oklahoma.
- 29:37Speaker 9: Yep, yep, yep.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:38Speaker 3: So are you seeing good deer movement currently?
- 29:45Speaker 9: Well, if you looked on any Oklahoma hunting pages, you
- 29:48Speaker 9: would think the deer movement is outstanding. But where I've
- 29:53Speaker 9: been hunting, you know, we kind of hunt the more
- 29:55Speaker 9: mountainous regions of Oklahoma and you know, generally in the state,
- 30:00Speaker 9: like it has lower deer density and so you kind
- 30:03Speaker 9: of expect not to see that many deer and it's
- 30:05Speaker 9: kind of a quality over quantity situation. But that's just
- 30:08Speaker 9: kind of where we hunt, where we like to stick with.
- 30:11Speaker 9: But long story short, you know, the movement hasn't been
- 30:14Speaker 9: too good. It's kind of been in the nineties towards
- 30:16Speaker 9: the evening and you know, the mosquito really love.
- 30:19Speaker 4: It, but you're not some of it, yeah for sure.
- 30:22Speaker 2: So since you're you know, doing a lot of that
- 30:24Speaker 2: mountain hunting, I'm sure that you got acorns on the brain.
- 30:28Speaker 2: And that's kind of how a lot of that stuff
- 30:29Speaker 2: rotates this year, this time of year, right, you're just
- 30:31Speaker 2: looking for hot feed or what are you doing up there?
- 30:35Speaker 4: Exactly?
- 30:36Speaker 9: Yeah, So down there, it's kind of like monotonous pines,
- 30:39Speaker 9: and every now and then you get those those nice
- 30:41Speaker 9: little oak flats and it can kind of almost get
- 30:43Speaker 9: a little overwhelming trying to find, you know, that particular
- 30:45Speaker 9: feed tree or however you want to.
- 30:48Speaker 7: Go about it.
- 30:48Speaker 9: But it's what we like to do is it's kind
- 30:51Speaker 9: of the bed to food pattern. I guess simplified, that's
- 30:54Speaker 9: what it is. But we tend to hug up more
- 30:56Speaker 9: towards the bedding on where we think they're all betting
- 30:58Speaker 9: at and try to cut them off between like that
- 31:00Speaker 9: oak flat and maybe that five six year old clear
- 31:03Speaker 9: cut that is now all overgrown. And that's that's kind
- 31:07Speaker 9: of where we seems like they can bet anywhere, but
- 31:09Speaker 9: that's kind of where we'd like to pinpoint them.
- 31:11Speaker 4: I hate to give away, you know, high quality info,
- 31:14Speaker 4: but have you ever killed one on a pine cone pattern?
- 31:18Speaker 4: I have not. I have not. I don't think so.
- 31:20Speaker 4: So you don't think they hate those things?
- 31:23Speaker 7: I haven't. I haven't really thought about that too.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Okay, I'm just making sure you know acorns are in
- 31:28Speaker 4: a pine piney wood scenario or the thing you should
- 31:31Speaker 4: be looking for.
- 31:31Speaker 9: But in all, honestly, as an Oklahoma and you know,
- 31:34Speaker 9: we're forty eighths in education here, I think so.
- 31:40Speaker 4: That's good honesty there.
- 31:41Speaker 8: Man.
- 31:41Speaker 4: We can trust this report, we know. So okay, so
- 31:45Speaker 4: what about does does moon or weather affect you coming
- 31:48Speaker 4: up or you're looking at any of that stuff?
- 31:51Speaker 7: Man, I think this is where the hate's going to
- 31:52Speaker 7: come in.
- 31:53Speaker 9: But I don't really pay any attention to anything other
- 31:55Speaker 9: than the winds particularly, and you know down there you
- 31:59Speaker 9: get in those bowls and it's swirling, and so we
- 32:02Speaker 9: have a thing where it's like if you're hunting the
- 32:04Speaker 9: wrong spot and the wrong wind, you just you know,
- 32:05Speaker 9: do a one eighty in your tree standing there the
- 32:07Speaker 9: other way.
- 32:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I've heard Christians say that it's funny. You know
- 32:11Speaker 4: what about uh what about like scrapes or anything? Is
- 32:15Speaker 4: that something you're thinking about sometime soon?
- 32:17Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yeah, we'll go.
- 32:18Speaker 9: In, uh look for that sign, whether that be scrapes
- 32:21Speaker 9: or rubs and down we had. It's kind of it's
- 32:23Speaker 9: kind of hit and miss. You don't see as much
- 32:25Speaker 9: sign as you do. Like normally it's you know, it's
- 32:28Speaker 9: not an ag an ag spot by no means. It
- 32:30Speaker 9: seems like we grow rocks more times than not. But
- 32:33Speaker 9: so it's kind of harder to see the sign. But
- 32:35Speaker 9: that's kind of what we look for. Is every now
- 32:37Speaker 9: and then, down those old two tracks, you'll see some
- 32:40Speaker 9: pretty good uh scrapes or rubs, and you kind of
- 32:43Speaker 9: just hunt off those.
- 32:45Speaker 7: Is how we like to narrow down those areas.
- 32:47Speaker 2: So here in mid October, you're actually moving around and
- 32:49Speaker 2: doing a lot of d season scouting.
- 32:51Speaker 4: You're not kind of sitting out and just observing.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Uh.
- 32:55Speaker 7: Yeah, that's that's typically what we like to do.
- 32:57Speaker 9: We like to bounce around in October to kind of
- 33:00Speaker 9: narrow down the spots for where we want to sit,
- 33:02Speaker 9: you know, come November when the movement's actually really good
- 33:04Speaker 9: and we're we're actually smarter than the deer for once.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's it's hard to do sometimes, man, especially
- 33:10Speaker 4: in Oklahoma. But I actually don't know how smart the
- 33:14Speaker 4: deer are in Oklahoma, but the people is what I
- 33:16Speaker 4: was referring to. Right. Yeah, one way, So in the
- 33:20Speaker 4: next week or so, are you gonna are you going
- 33:22Speaker 4: to kind of employ the same patterns here or are
- 33:24Speaker 4: you gonna do you expect anything to change in the
- 33:26Speaker 4: way you hunt or in the kind of actions of
- 33:29Speaker 4: the deer.
- 33:31Speaker 9: I mean, So next week we're suposed to get a
- 33:33Speaker 9: pretty good little cold front coming through, right So it's
- 33:35Speaker 9: been in the nineties, and I think starting Monday or
- 33:38Speaker 9: Tuesday it's supposed to be high as sixties and like
- 33:40Speaker 9: lower forties.
- 33:41Speaker 7: So that's going to be pretty darn nice. So and
- 33:45Speaker 7: all that'll do is just keep me on my feet
- 33:46Speaker 7: a little.
- 33:46Speaker 9: Bit longer to walk to the next spot, you know,
- 33:48Speaker 9: report gets too hot and I'm just tired and shoving
- 33:50Speaker 9: up a tree right there. Yeah, yeah, kind of on
- 33:53Speaker 9: that same pattern, you know, try to find those oak
- 33:54Speaker 9: flats and look for sign and basically just try to
- 33:57Speaker 9: find the most you know, the most diversity all in
- 34:00Speaker 9: one spot that also has that that good betting around.
- 34:03Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, and that's good. That's a good tip man
- 34:04Speaker 4: for that kind of a lot of people. That's relatable,
- 34:06Speaker 4: you know, find diversity. So in the next week, with
- 34:10Speaker 4: some colder temps coming in, but similar action as far
- 34:13Speaker 4: as deer go, Uh, is this going to be you know,
- 34:17Speaker 4: on a scale of one to ten. Is this going
- 34:19Speaker 4: to be a good report or bad report? What number
- 34:21Speaker 4: were we looking at here? Uh?
- 34:23Speaker 7: Man, I want to keep it honest.
- 34:25Speaker 9: I mean, just specifically for where we hunt, it's probably
- 34:28Speaker 9: going to be a probably a three or four. With
- 34:31Speaker 9: the colder temperatures, you know, it could turn into a five,
- 34:33Speaker 9: but we'll just make it a median number and go
- 34:36Speaker 9: with four.
- 34:36Speaker 7: How about that.
- 34:37Speaker 4: I like it, man. It's kind of like the opposite
- 34:38Speaker 4: of a Midwest six. It works, that's real realistic. I
- 34:41Speaker 4: appreciate that too.
- 34:42Speaker 2: You know, like everybody's so enthusiastic this time of year,
- 34:45Speaker 2: but man, guys, it's not November tenth, right, So it's
- 34:49Speaker 2: just you know, take take a.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Breath and realize what we're working with.
- 34:52Speaker 2: But you can kill deer on you know, days that
- 34:54Speaker 2: are ranked a point five, you know, if you know
- 34:56Speaker 2: what you're doing. So Jake, appreciate the good, honest report, man,
- 35:00Speaker 2: and I hope you have a great season.
- 35:02Speaker 7: Hey, I appreciate y'all having me.
- 35:04Speaker 9: And one last thing, if I could say real quick,
- 35:07Speaker 9: I know, as hunters, we all like to hunt and
- 35:09Speaker 9: stuff like that, and we focus on those record book books,
- 35:12Speaker 9: whether that be Pope and Young or Boone and Crockett.
- 35:14Speaker 9: But you know, I think we need to take that
- 35:16Speaker 9: back and focus on that good book and keep God
- 35:18Speaker 9: first of the season.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Absolutely, brother, Thanks for that. Yeah, I really enjoyed this
- 35:24Speaker 2: week's reports, and I think it's because we actually had
- 35:27Speaker 2: some realistic numbers and it there are some unrealistic ones too,
- 35:30Speaker 2: but I appreciate the optimism from the unrealistic, guys. I
- 35:35Speaker 2: also appreciate the realism from the true numbers of Like, hey, guys,
- 35:41Speaker 2: it's still early the October, right, but it's all fun
- 35:44Speaker 2: either way.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Guys. A great thing go.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Check out right now is our friend Mark Kenyon had
- 35:50Speaker 2: a pretty epic hunt for dear he called the wine
- 35:53Speaker 2: wide nine, which happened to not be a nine point.
- 35:56Speaker 2: The only way you're going to figure out how that
- 35:58Speaker 2: happened to go is to go check out that video
- 36:02Speaker 2: that we have posted a link below. And then also
- 36:04Speaker 2: I barely owned. Tyler Jones had a hunt for the
- 36:07Speaker 2: wide and massive and gigantic ten in Kansas as well
- 36:11Speaker 2: last year, and that hunt just went live on the
- 36:15Speaker 2: Element channel.
- 36:16Speaker 4: If you can hang a ring on it, he was
- 36:18Speaker 4: an eleven, you know, actually he broke a brow times.
- 36:21Speaker 8: And how about that that's true.
- 36:24Speaker 3: You know, I always look at deer just for what
- 36:26Speaker 3: their frame is.
- 36:28Speaker 4: Like.
- 36:28Speaker 3: If a deer is missing brow times, I don't count.
- 36:31Speaker 3: He's still an eight to me.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just eight without browse, which is weird, right.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Deer math is a strange thing. It's kind of like
- 36:38Speaker 2: chicken math, a girl math, all that stuff weird. But
- 36:41Speaker 2: Tyler puts one of the best shots I've ever seen
- 36:43Speaker 2: a person put on a deer.
- 36:44Speaker 4: On this deer uh and uh, it's just epic footage.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Go check it out.
- 36:48Speaker 2: If you haven't, we'd really appreciate that. Guys, it's time
- 36:51Speaker 2: to get out and go hunting. Take it easy, you know,
- 36:55Speaker 2: don't do anything too crazy, you know, make an observation,
- 36:58Speaker 2: sit or whatever. But if you got the high anchor
- 37:00Speaker 2: and just get out there in a big mix of
- 37:01Speaker 2: maybe you'll kill it.
- 37:02Speaker 4: And I don't know.
- 37:02Speaker 2: We've talked to a couple guys this week that absolutely
- 37:05Speaker 2: we're finding a way to have.
- 37:06Speaker 4: Some success and you can do it too.
- 37:08Speaker 2: This is rut fresh, Keep it fresh.
