Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, my friends? This is Jesse Leach from Killswitch Engage.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Getting ready to embark on a behemoth of a tour
- 0:08Speaker 2: with the mighty Killswitch Engage and Psilosis as direct support.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And it's going to be killer. I can't wait.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Fantastic, bro. Behemoth is the word. She's going to be massive.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Thanks for joining us.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yeah, pleasure. Thanks for having me. No worries, man.
- 0:23Speaker 4: So Killswitch Engage do return to Australia very soon for
- 0:26Speaker 4: a run of shows starting in Auckland on October 30th
- 0:29Speaker 4: before heading to Wellington, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Melbourne and
- 0:33Speaker 4: Adelaide and finishing in Fremantle on November the 14th.
- 0:36Speaker 3: But not far away, man. Are you packed? Ready to go?
- 0:40Speaker 1: Not packed yet, but I'll get that done tomorrow.
- 0:44Speaker 3: But I'm ready.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm ready.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Ready?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Indeed. It's been just over two years since you were
- 0:50Speaker 3: here last, right? So what's changed with the band since then?
- 0:54Speaker 2: New material really worked well into the set, and I
- 0:58Speaker 2: think that's going to be a big one. These things are,
- 1:00Speaker 2: we've worked out all the kinks, we've done a bunch
- 1:03Speaker 2: of tours with them, so if you're a fan of
- 1:05Speaker 2: the new record, you're going to hear at least four
- 1:07Speaker 2: or five of those new songs, as well as a
- 1:09Speaker 2: nice mix of all of our back catalogue, and we're
- 1:13Speaker 2: rotating the sets so if you come to two shows
- 1:16Speaker 2: back to back you'll you'll see some variations as well
- 1:18Speaker 2: which is good.
- 1:19Speaker 4: That's a good idea man and last i checked there
- 1:21Speaker 4: was three of the shows were already sold out man
- 1:23Speaker 4: like does that change your mindset at all going into
- 1:26Speaker 4: a show and knowing that shows were sold out.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I mean i give it a hundred percent no matter
- 1:32Speaker 2: what but it definitely adds a little bit more of
- 1:34Speaker 2: excitement for sure makes me happy and it's just a
- 1:37Speaker 2: relief during these times that we're living through you know
- 1:41Speaker 2: financial insecurities and you know the world just kind of
- 1:45Speaker 2: a big dumpster fire.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It gives me hope.
- 1:47Speaker 2: It makes me happy to see we're selling out shows
- 1:49Speaker 2: and having a, to be able to travel across the
- 1:52Speaker 2: world and bring our music to people is a great privilege.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Yeah. You've mentioned, which I think is a good thing
- 1:59Speaker 4: that you're going to vary the set list up from
- 2:00Speaker 4: night to night, but do.
- 2:01Speaker 3: You have like, is there a formula for that?
- 2:03Speaker 4: Like, do you, do you look into it and see
- 2:05Speaker 4: which songs work better in which cities before deciding what
- 2:08Speaker 4: goes where?
- 2:08Speaker 3: Or is it just more random?
- 2:10Speaker 1: It's, it's honestly, I'm going to have to give credit
- 2:13Speaker 1: to Justin, our drummer.
- 2:15Speaker 2: He's the guy that comes up with the set list
- 2:17Speaker 2: that we sort of quickly discuss, but he's usually pretty
- 2:20Speaker 2: spot on. And I think it's a, you know, for us,
- 2:23Speaker 2: we try to show a good mixture of the songs
- 2:25Speaker 2: that we know people want to hear, adding in some
- 2:28Speaker 2: maybe obscure stuff or stuff we haven't played in a while,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and then presenting the new material as well. So it's
- 2:34Speaker 2: definitely something we're conscious of, but we don't go as
- 2:37Speaker 2: far as to sort of look at the region and
- 2:39Speaker 2: what songs, you know, trending or any of that stuff.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I think for us, it's more.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Of just a feel And also a run of set,
- 2:46Speaker 2: how it feels, sort of an introduction track, where are
- 2:50Speaker 2: we at in the middle of the set and how
- 2:51Speaker 2: do we end off on a big set? I think
- 2:53Speaker 2: that's the fun of putting on a good show is
- 2:56Speaker 2: having a little bit of the ebb and flow of
- 2:58Speaker 2: the set.
- 2:59Speaker 3: I guess that had changed too, like from tour to tour.
- 3:02Speaker 4: When you release a new album, you'd have to restructure
- 3:04Speaker 4: the whole set list to be able to find the
- 3:06Speaker 4: balance to get the new songs in.
- 3:07Speaker 3: It's not a matter of just taking that one out
- 3:09Speaker 3: and putting that one in.
- 3:10Speaker 4: One song can affect the whole continuity, can't it?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Absolutely. And that's a little bit of trial and error.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You know, that first tour out on a new record,
- 3:18Speaker 2: we're sort of testing the waters and, you know, give
- 3:21Speaker 2: it a couple of shows to see if the song's working.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And if it seems to fall a little flat, maybe
- 3:26Speaker 2: swap it out with another one, give that one a
- 3:28Speaker 2: test ride.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So we've done all that work prior to this tour.
- 3:32Speaker 1: We're bringing out the bangers, the new ones we know
- 3:35Speaker 1: are going to hit well live, which is great.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Very nice and as you mentioned it does follow the
- 3:40Speaker 4: arrival of the new record this consequence which has got
- 3:42Speaker 4: the massive track i believe on it so how do
- 3:46Speaker 4: you say you've been trying out like how have the
- 3:48Speaker 4: the new ones been going over live and was there
- 3:51Speaker 4: any that you thought it'd go really well that maybe
- 3:53Speaker 4: didn't or vice versa.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah collusion we did a video for it and lyrically
- 3:59Speaker 2: to me personally it really speaks volumes about the world
- 4:03Speaker 2: we're living through now we're you know not to get
- 4:06Speaker 2: super deep um But recognizing the fact that the massive corporations,
- 4:13Speaker 2: the billionaires, if you will, are scratching each other's backs
- 4:17Speaker 2: and protecting each other while the common people are just
- 4:20Speaker 2: being smashed. The middle class is being smashed. And we're
- 4:23Speaker 2: all just paying higher prices. Our debts are getting bigger.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It's just a mess.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And I think it's planned. I think it's very intentional
- 4:33Speaker 2: to keep us divided and sort of suffering. So that
- 4:36Speaker 2: song is about that. you know, how these people are
- 4:38Speaker 2: just making backdoor deals that have nothing to do with
- 4:42Speaker 2: the best interest of the common people.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And I thought for sure that message in the song
- 4:46Speaker 1: is just powerful. It's different. But for some reason that just,
- 4:51Speaker 1: it kept kind of going flat.
- 4:52Speaker 2: People would like the song, but it didn't really quite
- 4:55Speaker 2: get the sing-alongs and the thing you really want with
- 4:58Speaker 2: that live song.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So we kind of swapped that one out.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Well, that would have been slightly disappointing, wouldn't it? Something
- 5:04Speaker 4: that you sort of thought was going to go well
- 5:05Speaker 4: and It happens. It happens a lot.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Unfortunately. I'd like to admit.
- 5:11Speaker 4: The song, I believe, has become the biggest radio hit
- 5:16Speaker 4: of your career, mate. That's got to feel pretty special
- 5:18Speaker 4: to know that after 25 years, more and more people
- 5:21Speaker 4: are getting into your music and appreciating what you do.
- 5:25Speaker 1: It is. It's an honor, really. And more than that,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I would say, you.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Know, being able to play that song live and people,
- 5:34Speaker 2: you can see the energy shift in the room. Once
- 5:36Speaker 2: the guitar riff starts, people react physically, you know, not
- 5:40Speaker 2: even just sonically.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Like I can see the body language change and.
- 5:44Speaker 2: People start jumping up and down or like they're getting
- 5:47Speaker 2: stoked for this next song. And it just fills my
- 5:50Speaker 2: heart with joy and like a sense of purpose too.
- 5:53Speaker 2: It's like the message that I carry in that song,
- 5:58Speaker 2: I think is pretty important to where we're living through
- 6:02Speaker 2: at the times we're living through. It's a lot of desperation,
- 6:04Speaker 2: a lot of, um, It feels pretty dismal if you're
- 6:08Speaker 2: really paying attention, you know, and that song is all
- 6:11Speaker 2: about keeping the faith, being hopeful that things will get better.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And it's sort of empowering to people. You know, we
- 6:18Speaker 2: can make a difference. It's just we have to believe
- 6:20Speaker 2: that we can. We have to band together to make
- 6:23Speaker 2: this difference. So it feels like a unity cry. And
- 6:26Speaker 2: to me, that's something that I really feel proud of.
- 6:29Speaker 2: That song has become sort of an anthem, you know,
- 6:32Speaker 2: and it's done really well in the rock charts, which
- 6:35Speaker 2: is really cool.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah, actually, Australia's a good point there, man.
- 6:38Speaker 4: You're talking about seeing the crowd react and then change physically. Like,
- 6:42Speaker 4: we only see it from the crowd perspective, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 4: when you're out there telling everyone to jump and the
- 6:46Speaker 4: whole crowd turn up. But from your perspective looking out, like,
- 6:49Speaker 4: one little thing like that could just change the whole
- 6:51Speaker 4: mood of your night, couldn't it?
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and, you know, the big thing for me, too,
- 6:55Speaker 2: is what I've really enjoyed is those moments where I
- 6:58Speaker 2: don't see phones in the air. We've had those beautiful
- 7:01Speaker 2: moments where people are actively engaging with us. singing along
- 7:07Speaker 2: uh and i love those moments i don't just you
- 7:09Speaker 2: know diss anybody for putting their phone up it happens
- 7:13Speaker 2: that's the modern age we're living in but those little
- 7:15Speaker 2: moments where i'm looking it's like very few phones and
- 7:18Speaker 2: more people just looking at us and singing along that's
- 7:21Speaker 2: the buzz that's like that's the stuff i love and
- 7:24Speaker 2: the stuff that i grew up with before we had
- 7:27Speaker 2: these big nothing worse than somebody holding like an ipad
- 7:29Speaker 2: you know just like ah come on put it.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Down That connection is everything.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Eye to eye, you're singing along, you're feeling it, making
- 7:38Speaker 2: me feel it even more.
- 7:40Speaker 1: That's the buzz. That's the best thing in the world.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I was just about to say that, man.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I've put up with people standing in front of me
- 7:46Speaker 4: with their phones because it happens, but I had a
- 7:47Speaker 4: guy with an iPad one night that big, and he'd
- 7:49Speaker 4: just come from nowhere and stood right in front of me,
- 7:52Speaker 4: and the iPad's gone up, and I'm just tapping him
- 7:54Speaker 4: on the shoulder.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I'm like, are you fucking serious, mate?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Honestly, honestly, how... often are you going to go back
- 8:02Speaker 1: and re-watch that and like.
- 8:03Speaker 4: What exactly my point but you never do you've been
- 8:05Speaker 4: you just want to go well that sounds like shit
- 8:07Speaker 4: and you never watch it again.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Get your get your little clip and then put it away.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Exactly man it's etiquette there should be such thing as
- 8:15Speaker 5: bone etiquette in a concert you personally spearheaded bringing british
- 8:22Speaker 5: thrash sort of heavy titan silosis out as your main
- 8:24Speaker 5: support man so what is it about josh middle songwriting.
- 8:28Speaker 4: And performance on the latest material i guess that made
- 8:30Speaker 4: you say, these guys have got to come out with this?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been a fan of them since we first
- 8:36Speaker 2: toured with them in 2013.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I just admire that band. They're just a pure thrash band,
- 8:42Speaker 1: which I love. It doesn't really fit.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Stylistically with any particular genre, especially metalcore. To me, it's
- 8:51Speaker 2: such a bastardized term, and I'm sort of bored with
- 8:55Speaker 2: having too many bands that sound alike.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And I feel like the new Psilosis record just has teeth.
- 9:00Speaker 1: It feels vicious. It feels important.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And the riffs are just brilliant. And they're great guys.
- 9:06Speaker 2: So it was unanimous. All five of us were like silos.
- 9:09Speaker 1: The new record's killer. We all love Josh. We love
- 9:11Speaker 1: those guys. So they're good touring mates. We've already toured
- 9:14Speaker 1: with them before.
- 9:16Speaker 2: And I feel like it's a band that, especially with
- 9:17Speaker 2: this new album, it needs attention.
- 9:19Speaker 1: People need to hear this record. 100% man.
- 9:22Speaker 3: And I read somewhere that backstage at Aftershot, you mentioned
- 9:25Speaker 3: that you're pushing the rest of the guys to go
- 9:27Speaker 3: faster and heavier and harder with future items.
- 9:30Speaker 4: So do you think having someone like Solosis there is
- 9:32Speaker 4: going to help sort of push that next phase along
- 9:34Speaker 4: a little bit?
- 9:38Speaker 1: I hope so.
- 9:39Speaker 2: You know, I'm one of five and I've got my
- 9:41Speaker 2: opinions and I respect very much what those guys will create.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And I think it should be natural.
- 9:48Speaker 2: You know, but I'm rooting for the, the hard and
- 9:50Speaker 2: heavy and fast, I feel like it just feels like
- 9:53Speaker 2: it's a good time to put out even just an EP,
- 9:55Speaker 2: you know, a couple of songs even of just some,
- 9:58Speaker 2: some really heavy stuff.
- 9:59Speaker 1: That's kind of where I'm coming from.
- 10:01Speaker 2: But, you know, again, we'll see what naturally comes out
- 10:04Speaker 2: of those guys as they write the music.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Cool, man.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Now you've openly stated that you love killing the rock
- 10:11Speaker 4: star mythos by heading straight to local pubs after a
- 10:13Speaker 4: gig to throw down a pint and have a yarn
- 10:15Speaker 4: with the fans. Well, Australian people sort of pretty much
- 10:18Speaker 4: take up on all those challenges, man. Like you're going
- 10:20Speaker 4: to be letting us know what pub you're going to
- 10:21Speaker 4: after the show or people got to walk around and
- 10:23Speaker 4: find you.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I get to walk around and find us. I won't,
- 10:26Speaker 1: I won't give a direct, um, but don't be surprised if.
- 10:31Speaker 2: You're near ish the venue and you see five or
- 10:34Speaker 2: six dudes from band or crew roll up and start
- 10:37Speaker 2: pounding some beers. It's, it happened a bunch on the
- 10:39Speaker 2: last run we did with maiden and I assume it'll
- 10:43Speaker 2: be happening again.
- 10:44Speaker 1: In fact, I'll tell you, um, for sure in certain cities.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Like Melbourne, I have my haunts. I have my places
- 10:51Speaker 2: that I really like to go to. And I might even,
- 10:54Speaker 2: you know, this is a fairly recent development. I might
- 10:57Speaker 2: even be doing a little DJ set after party at
- 11:01Speaker 2: one of these shows too. So that'll be an easy
- 11:04Speaker 2: opportunity to come hang and I'll announce that from stage.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So there'll be at least one show where I'll be
- 11:10Speaker 2: saying the party's over here.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I'll be there. We'll see what happens.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Very cool. How do you go with that all around
- 11:15Speaker 3: the world?
- 11:16Speaker 4: People and fans are obviously different all around the world,
- 11:18Speaker 4: but Australians are very.
- 11:21Speaker 3: In your face, I guess. We tell you what we
- 11:23Speaker 3: mean and we're very.
- 11:25Speaker 4: From country to country, do you notice that difference between
- 11:28Speaker 4: chatting with fans?
- 11:29Speaker 1: I do, I do.
- 11:31Speaker 2: And we're all very comfortable with Australians, the culture. It
- 11:35Speaker 2: feels very similar to the northeastern United States where there's
- 11:41Speaker 2: a lot of ball busting or taking the piss.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 11:43Speaker 2: A lot of clever jokes and sarcasm and wittiness. And
- 11:48Speaker 2: I think that's something we all love about Australian pub culture.
- 11:52Speaker 2: It's just fun, you know, and things tend to get
- 11:54Speaker 2: a little crazy, but as we've gotten older, we sort
- 11:57Speaker 2: of know when to call it. You know, I feel
- 11:59Speaker 2: in the younger years, there was a lot more blackout
- 12:02Speaker 2: drunks and a lot more waking up the next day
- 12:05Speaker 2: and like.
- 12:06Speaker 1: What did we do on this last tour?
- 12:08Speaker 2: You know, we recognize when we're old enough and we're
- 12:11Speaker 2: experienced enough to know, We got to call it.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a cool time. That is the Australian
- 12:18Speaker 3: way though, bro.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Like I tell people, if I'm not paying out on
- 12:22Speaker 4: you and being sarcastic, it means I don't like you.
- 12:24Speaker 3: It's the exact opposite. Yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And that's something we all collectively, all of us, all
- 12:29Speaker 2: five of us love. It's just something about it, man.
- 12:33Speaker 2: It's familiar, but it's also the other side.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Of the world, which is incredible. It feels like a
- 12:39Speaker 1: second home for us. I feel like every Australian tour
- 12:41Speaker 1: we've done, has been a total blast. So that's why
- 12:43Speaker 1: I can't wait to come back. We're all stoked.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Aside from the major capitals like Brisbane and Sydney and
- 12:49Speaker 4: Melbourne you're playing, this tour's going to hit spots like
- 12:51Speaker 4: Waves in Wollongong that are.
- 12:53Speaker 3: A little bit off the beaten track.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Do you find that playing in a slightly more regional
- 12:57Speaker 4: and smaller scale rooms alters the vibe or makes that
- 13:00Speaker 4: connection more personal?
- 13:02Speaker 1: Personal. Small shows, less security, less barrier, more connection. To me, again....
- 13:10Speaker 2: The last tour we did was opening for Iron Maiden,
- 13:13Speaker 2: but they allowed us to do side shows. So we'd
- 13:16Speaker 2: go from playing an arena in front of, you know, 50,000
- 13:19Speaker 2: people to the next show playing in front of 450
- 13:23Speaker 2: people at a small club. Those small club shows were electric.
- 13:27Speaker 2: They were some of my favorite shows we played in
- 13:29Speaker 2: a decade because.
- 13:30Speaker 1: There's just nothing like it. There's nothing like that energy.
- 13:33Speaker 1: We're more face-to-face with you.
- 13:36Speaker 2: There's more opportunity for me to help you put the
- 13:38Speaker 2: mic in your face and you sing along. and when
- 13:40Speaker 2: you're in such a small space, you can feel that
- 13:44Speaker 2: in your chest, in your guts, you know, that's the buzz,
- 13:48Speaker 2: and that's where we come from, we're all from punk
- 13:50Speaker 2: and hardcore, we're all hardcore kids, so that's home for us,
- 13:54Speaker 2: that's home for me, I love small shows, and.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I can't wait to do those ones, there's just an
- 13:58Speaker 1: electricity to it, you know.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and I know that you like doing both the
- 14:03Speaker 4: outdoor and the indoor, but do you have to change
- 14:05Speaker 4: your mindset going into a show knowing that you're going
- 14:08Speaker 4: to be in the smaller one or the more expansive
- 14:10Speaker 4: one like does that come into it as a singer.
- 14:13Speaker 2: I think i put out the same energy no matter
- 14:15Speaker 2: what we're doing but there is a shift you know
- 14:18Speaker 2: when you're playing those bigger shows it's more about working
- 14:21Speaker 2: the stage yeah you know the the actions are bigger
- 14:25Speaker 2: it's much more of a spectacle i guess you could
- 14:27Speaker 2: say where the smaller shows it's more directed towards the
- 14:32Speaker 2: front row and the audience At a big show, I'll
- 14:35Speaker 2: do that.
- 14:35Speaker 1: But I'm also looking way up.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I'm also looking to try to connect with those people
- 14:39Speaker 2: who are just out of sight up in the top rows.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I'm putting my energy in different places where a small show,
- 14:46Speaker 2: it's a lot more direct.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I think there's a lot more power with that and
- 14:51Speaker 1: a lot more connection that happens.
- 14:55Speaker 2: If you're in a room full of 400 people that
- 14:57Speaker 2: are all there for the same reason and the energy
- 14:59Speaker 2: is high, that's incredible.
- 15:02Speaker 1: It's a different kind of feeling.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that's cool.
- 15:05Speaker 3: You recently commented on how the music industry is shifting.
- 15:08Speaker 4: You mentioned that albums might become optional and the bands
- 15:11Speaker 4: open to release in regular singles to move the chimes.
- 15:14Speaker 3: But you're a writer.
- 15:15Speaker 4: You put a lot of value and conceptual weight and
- 15:17Speaker 4: emotional threads in your music. Do you find the prospect
- 15:20Speaker 4: of having a shorter single-dribble cycle is more liberating or challenging,
- 15:24Speaker 4: do you think?
- 15:25Speaker 1: I think liberating for me at this point.
- 15:28Speaker 2: We put out enough records that the idea of putting
- 15:31Speaker 2: out an EP or a couple of songs here and
- 15:33Speaker 2: there in addition to eventually put out a record, I
- 15:36Speaker 2: think is fun for me. And the turnaround would be great.
- 15:39Speaker 2: You know, you put out a record and how many
- 15:41Speaker 2: of those songs do you actually play live?
- 15:44Speaker 1: Maybe four, maybe five.
- 15:46Speaker 2: So those other songs just kind of go by the wayside.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Why not just put out an EP? That's just my opinion.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Put out an EP with four songs that you for
- 15:54Speaker 2: sure are going to play live because everyone's like, these
- 15:57Speaker 2: songs rule.
- 15:58Speaker 1: It just cuts out.
- 16:01Speaker 2: The fat, I guess, and makes the touring cycle easier
- 16:04Speaker 2: and more frequent. And I think in this day and age,
- 16:07Speaker 2: why not adapt a little bit to the times? You know,
- 16:09Speaker 2: we're old school for sure. We both love, we all
- 16:12Speaker 2: love the format of an album. And like you said,
- 16:15Speaker 2: the concept of an album, but I think you can
- 16:17Speaker 2: pull it off in four or five songs as well.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Like an EP can still have a concept to it.
- 16:23Speaker 2: So I'm excited to try that if the guys are
- 16:25Speaker 2: open to it. I'm just putting it, sort of putting
- 16:27Speaker 2: it out there.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Into the universe to see. Because I think it'd be
- 16:32Speaker 1: fun to do that.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:33Speaker 3: We're going to finish on a bit more of a
- 16:35Speaker 3: lighter note, mate. I've got a new segment.
- 16:37Speaker 4: I want to know what the first song was you
- 16:39Speaker 4: sung in the shower when you were a kid.
- 16:41Speaker 3: And do you still like that song today? Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 2: A song that I warm up to on a pretty
- 16:48Speaker 2: regular basis, especially if we're like a couple of weeks
- 16:52Speaker 2: into a tour and I'm tired. I'm like, how am
- 16:54Speaker 2: I doing today? I'll sing Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers.
- 16:59Speaker 2: One of my favorite songs of all time. And if
- 17:02Speaker 2: I can hit the high notes in that song, which
- 17:03Speaker 2: is close to the top of my range, I know
- 17:06Speaker 2: I'm in good shape. So, you know, on some of
- 17:08Speaker 2: those shows a couple of weeks into a tour, I'll
- 17:11Speaker 2: be back there 10 minutes before set singing that song.
- 17:13Speaker 1: And if I can hit all the notes, it just
- 17:15Speaker 1: gives me that confidence. Like my voice is good. I'm
- 17:17Speaker 1: good tonight.
- 17:18Speaker 3: What if you can't? What does it do to your
- 17:20Speaker 3: confidence then?
- 17:21Speaker 2: Then I'm like, all right, we're going to be careful here.
- 17:23Speaker 2: We're going to use technique to kind of get through
- 17:26Speaker 2: these things. And instead of just going out there, balls
- 17:28Speaker 2: to the wall, I'm sort of like relying more on
- 17:31Speaker 2: technique so I can pull it off without it sounding
- 17:33Speaker 2: like total shit.
- 17:35Speaker 3: It's supposed to be a lighthearted way to finish the show.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Not serious. All right, Jesse.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Well, thanks for your time, man. Been a pleasure chatting
- 17:44Speaker 4: with you. Kills which engage are in Australia from November.
- 17:46Speaker 4: As I said, three shows are sold out. The rest
- 17:48Speaker 4: are close to following suit. So get your tickets now
- 17:51Speaker 4: and I'll see you in Brisbane.
- 17:53Speaker 1: My friend, I appreciate you. Thank you so much. Looking
- 17:55Speaker 1: forward to it, my friend.
