- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to SEC Football Addiction, a big
- 0:03Speaker 1: one in the SEC this week, a big one last week.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about, first of all, South Carolina, Oklahoma,
- 0:10Speaker 1: but we'll start with that win in Willie B against
- 0:16Speaker 1: the number 11 team in the country, Tennessee. The Volunteers
- 0:19Speaker 1: came in with one loss. Now they leave with two.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We are presented by PrizePix. All new users there play $ 5,
- 0:24Speaker 1: get $ 150 in the lineups instantly if you use code HMA. Jamie,
- 0:28Speaker 1: we were just talking about it off air, but a
- 0:29Speaker 1: massive win for this team, for this program, for this staff,
- 0:33Speaker 1: for the fan base, just everybody.
- 0:35Speaker 2: And, boy, it was exciting.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And I'm sure you were having flashbacks in that second
- 0:37Speaker 1: quarter of, boy, not again, but they found a way
- 0:40Speaker 1: to get it done on Saturday.
- 0:43Speaker 3: They did.
- 0:44Speaker 4: It was, you know, there's always so many games like
- 0:50Speaker 4: that that you really get to be a part of
- 0:53Speaker 4: and get to see and experience all the different things.
- 0:56Speaker 3: They go with it.
- 0:57Speaker 4: The emotion and the playmaking and, you know, just the
- 1:02Speaker 4: environment and all that stuff. You know, against a team
- 1:05Speaker 4: that's really good. Tennessee, TJ, they're really good. I mean,
- 1:08Speaker 4: they're really good. I mean, their issue is a quarterback,
- 1:11Speaker 4: and it's not like they've got a bad quarterback.
- 1:13Speaker 3: They just have guys who are young.
- 1:15Speaker 4: You know, Faison Brandon has kind of had his issues,
- 1:18Speaker 4: and McIntyre is just a young kid, and he was
- 1:21Speaker 4: in an environment that he hadn't been in. And....
- 1:26Speaker 3: So it was tough on him.
- 1:28Speaker 4: But South Carolina, they've had so many issues in the
- 1:31Speaker 4: last couple of years being able to finish ballgames. And
- 1:35Speaker 4: I thought going into this game, I thought there was
- 1:39Speaker 4: a lot of important stuff that needed to happen.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Their stars needed to play like stars.
- 1:43Speaker 4: They needed to probably come out and get off to
- 1:46Speaker 4: a good start, punch them in the mouth. But then
- 1:49Speaker 4: also in the second half, Tennessee had scored 73% of
- 1:51Speaker 4: their points in the SEC this year after halftime. So
- 1:55Speaker 4: I thought, well, the Vols are probably going to come
- 1:57Speaker 4: out in the second half. You're going to have to
- 1:59Speaker 4: be able to match that. And, you know, Carolina's stars
- 2:03Speaker 4: played like stars at the end of the game. And
- 2:05Speaker 4: they punched them in the mouth early. And then they
- 2:08Speaker 4: literally shut Tennessee down in the second half, only giving
- 2:10Speaker 4: up three points. And, obviously, the magic happened late. And
- 2:13Speaker 4: they escaped with their second consecutive top 20 win.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think– I think you can, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 1: things are so very rarely black and white, right? Like
- 2:23Speaker 1: you can fault, you can fault South Carolina, which I
- 2:25Speaker 1: agree with you on everything you said, like massive win
- 2:27Speaker 1: because man, if, if, if, if it breaks another way, man,
- 2:33Speaker 1: like if it goes to overtime, who knows what happens if,
- 2:35Speaker 1: if the sack doesn't happen and they, maybe they go
- 2:36Speaker 1: score like just, you never know if sellers get stopped
- 2:39Speaker 1: a little short, like, but found a way.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And that's really all you can ask for in this conference.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But so back to black and white or glass, half
- 2:46Speaker 1: empty glass, half full, South Carolina deserves all the blame
- 2:50Speaker 1: in the world for blowing leads. And I'm completely fine
- 2:53Speaker 1: with admitting that. They're also this close, man, like this
- 2:58Speaker 1: close to, to be in seven and one, six, would
- 3:01Speaker 1: it be six and one? If I'm six and one,
- 3:03Speaker 1: if I can figure out math. So they're also like
- 3:06Speaker 1: this close and they, they are still talented enough or
- 3:09Speaker 1: they were talented enough to have big leads and be
- 3:12Speaker 1: winning games against really good opponents. Mississippi state, when they
- 3:16Speaker 1: were peaking, I know that they have faltered with some
- 3:19Speaker 1: injuries and different things. Kentucky, who is maybe, you know,
- 3:22Speaker 1: with them in UCLA, the surprise of the season, and
- 3:26Speaker 1: a really good ball club that's playing really well under
- 3:28Speaker 1: first-year head coach Will Stein.
- 3:30Speaker 2: And so, yeah, I'm all for it, man.
- 3:32Speaker 3: You can blame South.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Carolina for the way that they finished those games. You should.
- 3:36Speaker 2: But you also have to recognize, like, they built those leads.
- 3:39Speaker 2: They were dominating. They were beating those teams soundly.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I don't know if dominating is right. But, like, they
- 3:43Speaker 1: were doing all the right things. And so, yeah, they
- 3:46Speaker 1: didn't finish well in a couple of games. Obviously, the
- 3:48Speaker 1: Bama game is kind of on an island on its own. But, like,
- 3:51Speaker 1: everybody's had that. Bama did the same thing in Kentucky.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Bama did the same thing. Like, they've done that quite often.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So I just– I think you do have to recognize
- 4:00Speaker 1: that this team is more than just their 4-3 record. Now,
- 4:02Speaker 1: at the end of the day, they didn't finish three times.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And so, yeah, they deserve a 4-3 record. But they've
- 4:07Speaker 1: really played a lot– I think they've played a lot
- 4:09Speaker 1: better football than 4-3 for large stretches this season. And
- 4:12Speaker 1: I don't know if people really realize that because it's
- 4:15Speaker 1: just– it's a little easier to say, ah, they just
- 4:17Speaker 1: choke away big leagues.
- 4:18Speaker 2: And shoot, they don't. They– They did it in that
- 4:21Speaker 2: second quarter.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Like, I get it, man, and I don't know why
- 4:23Speaker 1: that keeps happening, but this is a football team that
- 4:25Speaker 1: when they're playing well, man, they can play with anybody.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Well, you nailed it. I mean, you nailed it. You
- 4:30Speaker 3: are what your record says you are.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Coach Spurrier was famous for saying that, and that's exactly right.
- 4:36Speaker 4: You know, you are also two plays away from being 6-1. And,
- 4:42Speaker 4: you know, the Alabama game, I mean, South Carolina beat Tennessee.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Tennessee dominated Alabama. Alabama dominated South Carolina. You know, Alabama,
- 4:51Speaker 4: you know, beat up on Kentucky. Kentucky squeaked it out
- 4:54Speaker 4: against the Gamecocks. Who knows how they finish? I mean,
- 4:56Speaker 4: this league is cannibalizing itself right before our eyes. If
- 5:00Speaker 4: you're paying attention, I still think Georgia is best suited
- 5:03Speaker 4: to win the thing and end up, you know, being
- 5:06Speaker 4: one of the top couple of seeds in the college
- 5:08Speaker 4: football playoff. But, you know, there's such a long ways
- 5:11Speaker 4: to go for them, for the Gamecocks. I mean, they
- 5:15Speaker 4: got to go to Oklahoma this weekend, okay, you know,
- 5:18Speaker 4: Are the Gamecocks better than Oklahoma? I'm not saying this
- 5:22Speaker 4: because I'm some crazy lunatic fan. I'm saying this because
- 5:26Speaker 4: I've watched Oklahoma play most of their games and I've
- 5:28Speaker 4: watched everything that South Carolina's done and then re-watched it.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yeah, they are. They're better than Oklahoma.
- 5:35Speaker 4: That doesn't mean that they can't go to Norman and
- 5:38Speaker 4: get pushed around and get beat up pretty good. That's
- 5:41Speaker 4: a really good defense up there. The Sooners offense obviously struggles.
- 5:46Speaker 4: In South Carolina, you know, offensively they're going to have
- 5:49Speaker 4: to find a way to probably scrape it together, kind of.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Like they did this weekend against Tennessee.
- 5:55Speaker 4: But then, you know, you turn the page and you're like, okay, well,
- 5:58Speaker 4: Texas A & M comes to town.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Is South Carolina better than them? Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 4: You know, A & M kind of hung in there
- 6:02Speaker 4: in Tuscaloosa this weekend. So you just– it is such
- 6:05Speaker 4: a matchup issue every week.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Every week. You've got to look at the matchup.
- 6:10Speaker 4: And then, you know, one of the things we were
- 6:12Speaker 4: talking about on Friday, and I wrote about it Saturday
- 6:15Speaker 4: going into the Tennessee game, I said, hey, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 4: here's the deal. You know, this is likely a wire-to-wire
- 6:23Speaker 4: four-quarter football game. There was nothing that separated Tennessee from
- 6:28Speaker 4: South Carolina and vice versa. There was nothing that separated
- 6:31Speaker 4: South Carolina from Tennessee. There were so many things that
- 6:33Speaker 4: offset each other that I thought would make this super-duper close.
- 6:37Speaker 4: And clearly it was. It was a field goal that
- 6:39Speaker 4: wins it at the buzzer. But when you play games
- 6:43Speaker 4: like that, it generally comes down to mistakes and in turnovers,
- 6:47Speaker 4: and whoever gets the breaks out of those generally wins
- 6:50Speaker 4: the game.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Well, what happened?
- 6:52Speaker 4: You know, Tennessee makes a couple of mistakes late in
- 6:55Speaker 4: the ball game. They made mistakes on some touchdown throws
- 6:58Speaker 4: that they had. Of course, you know, two of those,
- 7:01Speaker 4: Carolina was about to get a sack, and they held
- 7:04Speaker 4: on to the dude and didn't let him get there, but,
- 7:06Speaker 4: you know, they made some mistakes, and then at the
- 7:08Speaker 4: very end, Carolina creates a break. You know, Dylan Stewart
- 7:11Speaker 4: causes the fumble, and South Carolina's able to go win
- 7:14Speaker 4: the game. So, but It could happen like that versus
- 7:17Speaker 4: Oklahoma versus A & M. They have to go to
- 7:19Speaker 4: Fayetteville in November. Arkansas isn't very good, TJ. I'm not
- 7:23Speaker 4: saying that. But if you make a couple of problems
- 7:25Speaker 4: for yourself and you're on the road in this league,
- 7:28Speaker 4: guess what? You're going to get beat. So, I mean,
- 7:30Speaker 4: it is just a week-to-week thing. There's a long ways
- 7:33Speaker 4: to go. And you're right. You look back in September
- 7:36Speaker 4: and you go, man, one or two plays, and you're
- 7:38Speaker 4: talking about a team right now is somewhere well inside
- 7:40Speaker 4: the top 15.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe pushing top 10 with all the chaos that
- 7:44Speaker 1: we've seen. Um, you think about this Oklahoma game and man,
- 7:50Speaker 1: they are so, I'll say, man, their offense is so
- 7:56Speaker 1: turnover dependent. Are they like, if they don't have turnovers,
- 8:00Speaker 1: their offense seems like it can do some things still
- 8:03Speaker 1: not elite by any means or great even. Um, but
- 8:06Speaker 1: they turnovers are just such the story for Oklahoma to
- 8:09Speaker 1: me on both sides. Their defense is really freaking good.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I also think that Tennessee's defense is really freaking good.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Now there's a difference in playing road and home for sure.
- 8:18Speaker 1: But this defense for Oklahoma is so, so good. And
- 8:22Speaker 1: every game, if you go back and watch all of
- 8:24Speaker 1: their games, the result comes down to did Oklahoma score
- 8:28Speaker 1: off of turnovers?
- 8:30Speaker 2: Or did Oklahoma's offense let the other team score off
- 8:32Speaker 2: of turnovers? Like, that's what it all comes down to, man.
- 8:35Speaker 1: They're good enough to beat Texas if Texas is throwing
- 8:41Speaker 1: the ball around and.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Turning it over.
- 8:43Speaker 1: And they're bad enough to lose to a Michigan team
- 8:45Speaker 1: that can't score if they're the one turning the ball over.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And so I know that maybe that simplifies things too much.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I know there are other angles of this game. But, man,
- 8:54Speaker 1: the turnovers are just so– whereas, like, man, other teams
- 8:57Speaker 1: in football, like Miami won the turnover– or Florida State
- 9:00Speaker 1: won the turnover battle against Miami. Florida State won the
- 9:03Speaker 1: turnover battle against SMU. And the game result didn't go.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Against Oklahoma, if you win the turnover battle, you're winning.
- 9:09Speaker 1: If you lose the turnover battle, you're probably not going
- 9:12Speaker 1: to win. And so I hate to oversimplify the game
- 9:14Speaker 1: because there are more matchups I want to talk about
- 9:16Speaker 1: and stuff. But that feels like the biggest part of
- 9:18Speaker 1: it to me. Hey, I'll get right back to the interview,
- 9:21Speaker 1: but first I want to give some love to our
- 9:22Speaker 1: friends over at Alumni Hall. Listen, if you're gearing up
- 9:25Speaker 1: for game day, whether it's online or in person, you
- 9:28Speaker 1: can go to alumnihall.com or your local store or any
- 9:31Speaker 1: of their stores and use our code CFA15. 15% off
- 9:36Speaker 1: of your order you will get.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I don't know why I said that like Yoda, but
- 9:39Speaker 2: I did.
- 9:39Speaker 1: The biggest and largest and best selection of game day
- 9:42Speaker 1: apparel that you'll find anywhere is CFA15.
- 9:44Speaker 2: At Alumni Hall.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Again, CFA 15, College Football Addiction 15, saves you 15%
- 9:49Speaker 1: on your order. We appreciate Alumni Hall for their support.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Go check them out.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Well, you're right. John Mateer, he can be really, really good.
- 9:58Speaker 4: And then you get a busted play or somebody whiffs
- 10:05Speaker 4: on a block or whatever the case it is, it
- 10:08Speaker 4: just kind of throws the whole play into a funk
- 10:12Speaker 4: and they just look like a disaster.
- 10:13Speaker 3: And that's been their Achilles heel.
- 10:14Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, if you go look at his numbers,
- 10:17Speaker 4: if you If you put your hand over the interception
- 10:20Speaker 4: column and you look at the rest of it, you're like,
- 10:23Speaker 4: he's having a pretty good year. But it doesn't equate
- 10:27Speaker 4: on the scoreboard. I mean, they just don't score a
- 10:28Speaker 4: lot of points because they've shot themselves in the foot
- 10:30Speaker 4: so many times. So if you're South Carolina, the Gamecocks
- 10:35Speaker 4: haven't really been good at creating turnovers. They certainly did
- 10:38Speaker 4: down in the swamp. And then obviously they got the
- 10:41Speaker 4: big one against Tennessee. They're going to have to create
- 10:43Speaker 4: turnovers up at Oklahoma.
- 10:45Speaker 3: You're right. They're going to lose the game. And so,
- 10:48Speaker 3: you know, what does that look like? And vice versa.
- 10:50Speaker 4: You know, Lenore Sellers, he is such an equalizer. You know,
- 10:53Speaker 4: he can, you know, I'll take you back to the
- 10:55Speaker 4: end of the game this past weekend. A lot of
- 10:57Speaker 4: people who were watching it and most everybody who was
- 11:00Speaker 4: in the ballpark in that final drive for Carolina, you know,
- 11:03Speaker 4: looked at the play calling and thought, oh, my gosh,
- 11:05Speaker 4: what are they doing here? Just kick the field goal,
- 11:07Speaker 4: move the ball, kick the field goal and win. And
- 11:10Speaker 4: the play calls were good. I mean, if you complete
- 11:14Speaker 4: the screen pass, that's a touchdown. The second play, D.J.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Black's wide open. You know, if Lenores just throws in
- 11:20Speaker 4: the ball, that's a touchdown.
- 11:22Speaker 3: The game's over.
- 11:23Speaker 4: I mean, Carolina puts their foot on it, and it's done.
- 11:26Speaker 4: But they did it, and then they get a false
- 11:27Speaker 4: start penalty. Well, what card was still in the back pocket?
- 11:32Speaker 3: Run Lenores. You know, and he's the great equalizer here.
- 11:36Speaker 4: And so they basically cut down, you know, his reads
- 11:39Speaker 4: and his options, and they knew, all right, well, we
- 11:42Speaker 4: need to go ahead and gain some yards here so
- 11:43Speaker 4: we can give Malik Orson a shot to kick this thing.
- 11:47Speaker 4: And so they basically trimmed down his options and said,
- 11:50Speaker 4: go ahead and go if you've got it.
- 11:51Speaker 3: And he did.
- 11:52Speaker 4: And he gives Malik Orson, you know, a 48-yard field
- 11:55Speaker 4: goal attempt that's right where he wanted to kick it from.
- 11:57Speaker 3: And he nails it.
- 11:58Speaker 4: So, you know, when things for Carolina offensively, when you
- 12:01Speaker 4: look at that matchup with the Sooners, and you go,
- 12:04Speaker 4: all right, well, if they get bogged down here and
- 12:06Speaker 4: they get bogged down there and they get backed up here,
- 12:08Speaker 4: they shoot themselves in the foot here, you've got the
- 12:11Speaker 4: equalizer there with Lenore Sellers. He can always find a
- 12:14Speaker 4: way to make something happen. Might not always be pretty.
- 12:17Speaker 4: but he can find a way to make something happen.
- 12:19Speaker 4: So Oklahoma obviously is going to have to find a
- 12:20Speaker 4: way to button that up and, uh, and make sure that, um,
- 12:23Speaker 4: they can try to force him into a turnover or
- 12:25Speaker 4: two as well.
- 12:26Speaker 3: So they can escape with a win.
- 12:28Speaker 4: I think you're in line for another nail biter between
- 12:30Speaker 4: the Sooners and the Gamecocks this weekend. It's going to,
- 12:32Speaker 4: it's going to be another week of pretty tense moments.
- 12:36Speaker 1: The Lenore sellers effect is something I'm very interested in too,
- 12:40Speaker 1: because again, I think Oklahoma has a really good defense.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I thought Tennessee had a really good. Yeah. Not, I
- 12:44Speaker 2: think Oklahoma has a good defense. Tennessee has a good defense.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Like I can, I can say that with confidence.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 1: What I would like to know is can sellers and
- 12:54Speaker 1: are they going to force sellers to kind of be Superman?
- 12:57Speaker 1: Like the rushing attack outside of him was, was not
- 13:00Speaker 1: like he had to do a lot, both on the
- 13:02Speaker 1: ground and with his arm. Um, can he get away
- 13:05Speaker 1: with that two weeks in a row this time on
- 13:07Speaker 1: the road against what might be a better defense?
- 13:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I don't know how you, great amount, but certainly a
- 13:13Speaker 1: defense that forces a lot of turnovers, forced a lot
- 13:14Speaker 1: of mistakes for other teams.
- 13:16Speaker 2: And that's kind of how they continue to survive.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I do think that matchup of, of sellers and this
- 13:22Speaker 1: offense against that defense is, is really, really intriguing. I
- 13:25Speaker 1: also wonder like, man, if you're Shane, like you want
- 13:28Speaker 1: to go and go get it. And no coach would
- 13:30Speaker 1: ever admit to like playing back at all. Like nobody
- 13:33Speaker 1: would ever say that, but like, are you, do you,
- 13:35Speaker 1: would you almost be comfortable like saying like, dude, we're
- 13:39Speaker 1: going to let them make that first mistake. Not that
- 13:42Speaker 1: we don't want to go out and win it, because
- 13:43Speaker 1: that's not what I'm trying to imply, but we're not
- 13:46Speaker 1: going to go out and lose it. If somebody's going
- 13:48Speaker 1: to go out and lose this game, we're going to
- 13:49Speaker 1: let Mateer do that, because he's shown every other game
- 13:52Speaker 1: he seems to do that.
- 13:53Speaker 2: So, I don't know.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think the way that Sellers plays, the way that
- 13:56Speaker 1: this is coached, the scheme, is all really interested from
- 13:59Speaker 1: the offensive side for South Carolina.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Well, you know, and I'll say this, too.
- 14:03Speaker 4: I mean, if you want to pick apart some things,
- 14:06Speaker 4: you know, things are going well for Carolina right now.
- 14:09Speaker 4: But they do need to get the run game going
- 14:12Speaker 4: aside from their quarterback. I mean, Matt Fuller's a very
- 14:15Speaker 4: good running back. Jabri Coleman's a very good running back.
- 14:18Speaker 4: And they've had some issues in the last couple of
- 14:21Speaker 4: weeks in kind of getting that going.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Now, I will say this. I've got to give Kendall
- 14:25Speaker 3: Bryles some credit here.
- 14:27Speaker 4: They didn't really run it a lot, especially in the
- 14:29Speaker 4: second half in the swamp, because things were clicking through
- 14:32Speaker 4: the air.
- 14:32Speaker 3: They wanted to stay with the right arm of Sellers
- 14:34Speaker 3: because he was hot. Why not?
- 14:35Speaker 4: And he was 9 of 11 for 144 yards. and
- 14:38Speaker 4: two touchdowns in that second half, and they were scoring. So,
- 14:42Speaker 4: you know, why change something? So I don't blame him there. But,
- 14:46Speaker 4: you know, Tennessee bottled it up pretty well. And, you know,
- 14:49Speaker 4: Matt Fuller, he had some tough runs. So did Jabri.
- 14:52Speaker 4: But they never really got it going. It was Lenore
- 14:55Speaker 4: Sellers that carried the run game. They're going to continue
- 14:58Speaker 4: to run him. There's no doubt about that. But you
- 15:00Speaker 4: do want those guys to– you want that game, that
- 15:03Speaker 4: part of the rushing attack to give you a little
- 15:05Speaker 4: bit more than it has been. So they got to
- 15:08Speaker 4: probably try to balance it out and not be one-dimensional.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Tennessee did a good job making South Carolina one-dimensional a
- 15:13Speaker 4: lot of the game on Saturday. And the way that
- 15:16Speaker 4: they busted out of it was using Lenore's, you know,
- 15:19Speaker 4: getting his legs and loosen them up a little bit.
- 15:21Speaker 4: And they were able to figure some things out. So
- 15:23Speaker 4: Carolina is going to need to get that part figured out, certainly.
- 15:25Speaker 4: But yeah, you know, Coach Beamer and this defensive staff,
- 15:32Speaker 4: they're going to try to find ways to make John
- 15:34Speaker 4: Mateer beat himself.
- 15:36Speaker 3: And I knew this going into the game.
- 15:38Speaker 4: I kind of heard it from one of my contacts
- 15:40Speaker 4: with the program, and I'm putting it in what's called
- 15:43Speaker 4: a Gamecock report today up on the website on Gamecock Central.
- 15:46Speaker 4: You know, they spent a long time last week hearing
- 15:49Speaker 4: everybody talk about Tennessee's defensive line. And South Carolina's like,
- 15:53Speaker 4: you know, we got a couple of first-rounders over here, too.
- 15:57Speaker 4: So let's make sure we remind people we're all right
- 16:00Speaker 4: up here on the front side of this defense. And
- 16:03Speaker 4: those guys, Tommy Duragia, certainly Dillon, uh, and, uh, and others,
- 16:08Speaker 4: Noah Clark, the deep freezer, the big freshmen. I mean,
- 16:11Speaker 4: those guys, they're playing pretty good football, so we'll, we'll
- 16:14Speaker 4: see what they can do. If they can get into
- 16:15Speaker 4: the backfield for Oklahoma, that, that certainly could cause some issues.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I'm interested in that too.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Obviously I think I've said I'm interested in, you know,
- 16:23Speaker 1: so many different things, you know, not the strongest sec
- 16:26Speaker 1: slate right now.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I know next week's the, the week that everybody's looking at.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:30Speaker 1: And so, um, you do have the cocktail party happening
- 16:33Speaker 1: in Atlanta, uh, But this matchup, man, like Dylan Stewart
- 16:37Speaker 1: against John Mateer, I think that's– and it's not just Stewart.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I know the rest of the defense is there too.
- 16:42Speaker 1: But let's be real. He's just an absolute game wrecker
- 16:44Speaker 1: that you– do you struggle at times to watch anyone else?
- 16:49Speaker 1: I struggle at times to look at what else is
- 16:52Speaker 1: going on on the TV. I'll never forget the first
- 16:54Speaker 1: time I went to Jerry World and watched Florida State
- 16:56Speaker 1: play Oklahoma State there. I couldn't stop watching the TV
- 17:00Speaker 1: or the Jumbotron because it was bigger than anything I've
- 17:02Speaker 1: ever seen in my life. And I had to remind
- 17:04Speaker 1: myself like, Hey, you paid a lot of money to
- 17:05Speaker 1: like not watch a screen at this thing. I'm not
- 17:09Speaker 1: paying any money to watch South Carolina play this weekend,
- 17:11Speaker 1: but it's hard for me to not watch him, especially
- 17:14Speaker 1: with the questions they've got on the offensive line. And
- 17:16Speaker 1: so again, not just Stewart, but I think the way
- 17:20Speaker 1: that a defensive end, an elite defensive end can change
- 17:24Speaker 1: a game makes that just an absolute must see against
- 17:27Speaker 1: an offensive line that it hadn't been holding up real
- 17:30Speaker 1: well this year.
- 17:31Speaker 3: No. And Dylan is a, First of all, he's a
- 17:35Speaker 3: really good kid.
- 17:35Speaker 4: I think he's– what happened in that Alabama game, it
- 17:40Speaker 4: damaged his reputation.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And he's had some incidents before that.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I mean, the Ole Miss game in 24, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 4: the celebration and all that stuff. Like, he's done a
- 17:49Speaker 4: lot to himself. But what's been neat about this, we
- 17:53Speaker 4: have it in South Carolina, it's called the Big Brother Program.
- 17:56Speaker 4: And former players basically become the big brothers for so
- 18:00Speaker 4: many kids in on the team.
- 18:02Speaker 3: It's very new. It actually just started about a year ago.
- 18:05Speaker 4: And Dylan Stewart, how about this for a big brother?
- 18:09Speaker 4: His big brother is John Abraham. That's a pretty good
- 18:12Speaker 4: one to have. And here's the thing about John Abraham.
- 18:15Speaker 4: John Abraham played at South Carolina in an era when
- 18:18Speaker 4: they were terrible. I mean, they were 1-10 under Brad
- 18:21Speaker 4: Scott in 98, and then in 99, 0-11 in Coach
- 18:24Speaker 4: Holtz's first year. And then everything gets turned around. So
- 18:28Speaker 4: John Abraham went through... as many trials and tribulations as
- 18:32Speaker 4: you can go through being a player in a program
- 18:34Speaker 4: that's not good. And that era was way worse than
- 18:37Speaker 4: anything people think they've seen around here under Shane Beamer
- 18:39Speaker 4: at times. So, you know, when Dylan went through everything
- 18:43Speaker 4: he did in that Oklahoma, I mean, in the Alabama game,
- 18:46Speaker 4: you know, Shane suspended him, rightfully so.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Then the league suspended him.
- 18:51Speaker 4: That suspension was really more based on not listening to coaches,
- 18:54Speaker 4: not necessarily the punches and stuff getting thrown on the field.
- 18:57Speaker 4: It was more along the lines of, no, we're in charge.
- 19:00Speaker 4: You're not, this is how it's going to go. Had
- 19:03Speaker 4: he played him, had he decided, Hey, look, we're going
- 19:06Speaker 4: to figure out how to work this thing out. And
- 19:08Speaker 4: we're going to play you in that Kentucky game might
- 19:12Speaker 4: be a different result, man, but they didn't do it. And,
- 19:15Speaker 4: you know, since then he's been a one 80 and,
- 19:19Speaker 4: and it was not like he was ever a bad kid.
- 19:21Speaker 4: He was, he went through a long off season, you know,
- 19:24Speaker 4: trying to get his back, right. Trying to get back
- 19:26Speaker 4: to play. And he gets in there and he, Has
- 19:28Speaker 4: some frustrating moments. His snaps are limited. He's a competitor,
- 19:32Speaker 4: and he let a lot of things get to him,
- 19:35Speaker 4: and his emotions got way out of whack. And he
- 19:38Speaker 4: wasn't representing himself, and he wasn't representing his program, TJ.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Not in good ways. And since then, he's on the sidelines.
- 19:46Speaker 4: He's coaching guys. He's leading everything in practice. his whole
- 19:50Speaker 4: team voted to have him back that tells you that
- 19:52Speaker 4: they wanted him not just because he's good players he's
- 19:53Speaker 4: a good kid and um you know we've seen him
- 19:56Speaker 4: in the last two ball games at florida and then
- 19:58Speaker 4: at home against tennessee go out and make game-changing plays
- 20:02Speaker 4: and when you when you put that a good attitude
- 20:04Speaker 4: with his ability He's not only the best edge in
- 20:07Speaker 4: the league, he's the best edge in the country.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I mean, this kid is that good. Period, the end.
- 20:10Speaker 4: He is that good. And all you got to do
- 20:13Speaker 4: is look at when he blows off the ball. Go
- 20:16Speaker 4: back and watch the replay of when he caused the fumble.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Anthony Addison on the other edge is a quick little
- 20:20Speaker 4: booger now. Dylan Stewart was a yard ahead of him
- 20:24Speaker 4: with the tackle already on skates.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I mean, he is that powerful and that low to
- 20:28Speaker 3: the ground.
- 20:29Speaker 4: And if he continues to play like that, South Carolina
- 20:32Speaker 4: defensively is going to be okay.
- 20:36Speaker 1: The one thing I worry about for South Carolina, again,
- 20:38Speaker 1: the outside of just Oklahoma defense, but going real, real
- 20:42Speaker 1: big picture.
- 20:42Speaker 2: And we'll wrap up is.
- 20:44Speaker 1: The sec, man, the way that South Carolina is able to,
- 20:48Speaker 1: and not even really just the sec, look at, look
- 20:50Speaker 1: at what happened to BYU last week. The, when you
- 20:52Speaker 1: have a big win, man, an emotional last second, save
- 20:57Speaker 1: your coach's job type of walk off and fumble.
- 21:00Speaker 2: And sellers effort and all these things.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And you beat a top 11 opponent and you immediately
- 21:04Speaker 1: have to then go all the road to an sec
- 21:06Speaker 1: opponent with a.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Defense like this. I mean, that's just an absolute recipe
- 21:10Speaker 2: for disaster.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And so if we played this game, like week three
- 21:15Speaker 1: in Atlanta, you know, or Nashville.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Man, I'd probably lean South Carolina here. Pretty, pretty easily,
- 21:23Speaker 2: not easily. Cause nothing's easy, but could easily.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I think where I struggle is, man, if the SEC
- 21:30Speaker 1: has taught us anything this week, it doesn't matter how
- 21:32Speaker 1: good you're playing, how bad you're playing.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Look at Ole Miss and Texas this weekend. Look at
- 21:38Speaker 2: LSU and Auburn. Auburn coming off the big win.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It's an absolute powder keg that's willing to explode at
- 21:44Speaker 1: any point, and you never know who's going to be
- 21:46Speaker 1: the one holding the fuse at the end of the day.
- 21:48Speaker 1: That worries me for South Carolina. How can they do
- 21:52Speaker 1: better than most SEC teams have done this year? Look
- 21:54Speaker 1: at Florida going to Missouri right after they beat Ole Miss.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Then look at Missouri coming back down to Ole Miss
- 21:59Speaker 1: and losing. That does worry me. And that's not a
- 22:01Speaker 1: South Carolina problem. That's not an Oklahoma thing. That's just
- 22:04Speaker 1: a man, football, it's hard to get up. BYU just
- 22:07Speaker 1: did it, right? Texas tech did it this weekend at Cincinnati.
- 22:10Speaker 1: So that is something I want to know how the coach,
- 22:13Speaker 1: they can figure that out, whether it's Beamer or Kirby
- 22:15Speaker 1: or just whomever the coach, they can figure that out for,
- 22:18Speaker 1: for this to not be such an emotional rollercoaster every
- 22:20Speaker 1: single week is the coach is probably going to win
- 22:23Speaker 1: this conference.
- 22:23Speaker 2: So I am intrigued by that for sure.
- 22:26Speaker 3: A hundred percent. I totally agree.
- 22:28Speaker 4: You know, like I said, it's a matchup deal every week.
- 22:30Speaker 4: I mean, it really is, you know, how do you
- 22:32Speaker 4: match up? And then Yeah, where are you? South Carolina
- 22:36Speaker 4: just came off of a bye week, so it's not
- 22:37Speaker 4: like they're playing their seventh or eighth straight game or
- 22:40Speaker 4: something like that. They got refreshed, they got healthy, and
- 22:44Speaker 4: for the most part, they're pretty healthy coming out of
- 22:46Speaker 4: the game against Tennessee. I'm not sure that I question
- 22:53Speaker 4: as much about this. You've got a third-year starting quarterback,
- 22:56Speaker 4: Lenore Sellers, who's going to make his second start at Oklahoma.
- 23:00Speaker 4: He was the quarterback in 2024 when when the Gamecocks
- 23:03Speaker 4: went up there and embarrassed them in the first 15 minutes.
- 23:06Speaker 4: I doubt those guys in Norman have forgotten about that.
- 23:08Speaker 4: So I'm sure that somebody's being reminded of what happened
- 23:12Speaker 4: around here just a couple of seasons ago. But I
- 23:15Speaker 4: just look at it from a matchup standpoint and say,
- 23:18Speaker 4: all right, well, where does Oklahoma kind of really have
- 23:21Speaker 4: their number here? And because the line is so thin,
- 23:27Speaker 4: the margin of error is so thin, when you do
- 23:29Speaker 4: cough it up or make a mistake– Those are the
- 23:32Speaker 4: things that get you beat, a la, obviously, Tennessee and
- 23:34Speaker 4: Columbia this weekend. So, you know, I think that Lenore Sellers, obviously,
- 23:41Speaker 4: is going to be the key to this thing for
- 23:43Speaker 4: South Carolina's offense. If he is seeing the things that
- 23:49Speaker 4: he needs to see, and however they decide to draw
- 23:52Speaker 4: up the game plan this week, they will have a
- 23:55Speaker 4: chance to score enough, but they don't have to score
- 23:57Speaker 4: a lot of points against Oklahoma. You know, they'll have
- 24:00Speaker 4: a chance to score enough, and then You know, defensively,
- 24:03Speaker 4: it's really going to be in the trenches. I mean,
- 24:05Speaker 4: if South Carolina is able to get there and make
- 24:07Speaker 4: John Mateer make a lot of decisions, especially a lot
- 24:11Speaker 4: of decisions where he's not comfortable, that's probably pretty good
- 24:16Speaker 4: for them too. But if Oklahoma buttons that up, that's
- 24:19Speaker 4: not good for South Carolina. Like, they didn't just magically
- 24:21Speaker 4: solve all their issues in the secondary. They still have some.
- 24:24Speaker 4: And they've been better. But they're continuing to work through them. And,
- 24:28Speaker 4: you know, you talk about the rest of the SEC too, TJ.
- 24:30Speaker 3: I'll tell you what.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Maybe if we catch up next week or something like that,
- 24:34Speaker 4: maybe you say, yeah, you missed on that one. I
- 24:38Speaker 4: think Missouri needs to be careful with Arkansas on Saturday night.
- 24:41Speaker 4: I'm just saying. Teams like that, is Arkansas the least
- 24:46Speaker 4: talented team in the league?
- 24:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 4: But they're 3-4, man. They're not 0-7. They're 3-4. They
- 24:54Speaker 4: finally got off the mat and beat Vanderbilt. Feeling it
- 24:57Speaker 4: a little bit. You know, Missouri's kind of had some
- 25:00Speaker 4: off-and-on issues this year. And, you know, you've got to
- 25:04Speaker 4: go on the road. All of a sudden you're at
- 25:05Speaker 4: night against a very desperate program that is like, hey, man,
- 25:08Speaker 4: we're just a couple of wins away from getting into
- 25:10Speaker 4: bowl season. Can we do this? They look at that
- 25:12Speaker 4: as a very winnable game. So, you mentioned Florida-Georgia. Like,
- 25:17Speaker 4: Georgia's a better football team than Florida. But I don't
- 25:19Speaker 4: think for two seconds that this game isn't actually pretty close.
- 25:22Speaker 4: I think John Summerall has this Gators group playing pretty
- 25:26Speaker 4: good football going into this thing.
- 25:27Speaker 3: I think it's going to be.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Down to the wire so it just comes down to
- 25:29Speaker 4: all these different matchups and who makes mistakes where those
- 25:33Speaker 4: mistakes made and what do you do about it you
- 25:35Speaker 4: know once that happens and and that's where a lot
- 25:37Speaker 4: of these games are are kind of getting decided here
- 25:40Speaker 4: so you know as weak as the weekend looks in
- 25:43Speaker 4: the league comparative to other weeks and and certainly down
- 25:46Speaker 4: the road I'm not so sure it's not another one
- 25:49Speaker 4: where we're sitting here at the end of the night.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Going, good God. Holy crap, yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 1: We're thankful to survive or we got caught up in
- 25:55Speaker 1: the tsunami. You're on one side.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Of that or the other. It's crazy, man. No, I
- 26:01Speaker 3: agree with you.
- 26:01Speaker 1: In Arkansas, coming off the bye week, you look at
- 26:06Speaker 1: their last two games, right? Played Tennessee incredibly close.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I know.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And then beat Vandy, which I know Vandy's not the
- 26:13Speaker 1: 10-win Vandy that we grew used to for a year
- 26:17Speaker 1: and a half, two years, but still, uh, you know,
- 26:20Speaker 1: you get a win, you get a bi-week, you get
- 26:21Speaker 1: a little confidence you're at home. It's Halloween night, spooky season. So, um,
- 26:26Speaker 1: give me a, it's really early. I don't know if
- 26:28Speaker 1: you have a score, but do you think South Carolina
- 26:30Speaker 1: does pull it out?
- 26:34Speaker 4: It's, it's, it's hard to say. Um, I think it's
- 26:38Speaker 4: a lower score. I think it's a similar scoring game
- 26:40Speaker 4: to what we just saw. Honestly, I think I know
- 26:43Speaker 4: Oklahoma is a five and a half point favorite. I would,
- 26:46Speaker 4: I would probably take South Carolina in the points if
- 26:48Speaker 4: that made sense. I'm not sure if I'm there yet
- 26:50Speaker 4: to pick them to win the game yet, though. I
- 26:52Speaker 4: just don't know. This game makes me very nervous, to
- 26:55Speaker 4: be honest with you. But I think one way or another,
- 26:58Speaker 4: I mean, I had Carolina squeaking it out 24-23 last
- 27:02Speaker 4: week against Tennessee. I took the 1992 score from Steve Tannehill. Steve,
- 27:08Speaker 4: we lost Steve back in December to cancer, and this
- 27:12Speaker 4: was the first time we're playing Tennessee since then, or
- 27:14Speaker 4: South Carolina was, pardon me. And so I said, ah,
- 27:16Speaker 4: the hell with it. Let's go with fate, 24-23. It
- 27:19Speaker 4: was pretty close, 27-24. So I think it's something somewhere
- 27:23Speaker 4: in there, man, 27-24 Oklahoma or 27-24 South Carolina, something
- 27:31Speaker 4: similar to what we.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Saw last week.
- 27:33Speaker 2: James, I appreciate you a ton.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Well, you didn't even get to the real storyline on
- 27:39Speaker 4: this show, especially coming from you. Uh-oh.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Y'all got the Tigers coming to town this week.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Oh, gosh. Cartoon Network.
- 27:47Speaker 3: Everybody up here is going, man, this Saturday can't get
- 27:51Speaker 3: any better. Oh, wait a second. What's the score?
- 27:53Speaker 4: Oh, let's flip on ESPN, and then there's Virginia Tech
- 27:57Speaker 4: silencing Death Valley.
- 28:03Speaker 2: We will do our best, but I'll tell you this.
- 28:06Speaker 1: We were a favorite going up there last year, and
- 28:08Speaker 1: we put up 10 points in Death Valley. We play
- 28:10Speaker 1: a little bit better at home, for sure. But being
- 28:14Speaker 1: a 5, 6, 7-point favorite doesn't mean anything to me.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I've seen them lose as a favorite too many times
- 28:21Speaker 1: and lose to teams they shouldn't, and they shouldn't have
- 28:23Speaker 1: lost to that Clemson team last year. Duke put up
- 28:26Speaker 1: 46 points on them, and I know they had Mensah
- 28:27Speaker 1: on that team, but Duke put up 46 points in
- 28:31Speaker 1: Death Valley, and we went up there and scored 10.
- 28:34Speaker 2: So I... I ain't counting no chickens before they hatch.
- 28:37Speaker 2: So we'll try our hardest, man.
- 28:39Speaker 1: That's all I can say. From one guy wearing garnet
- 28:42Speaker 1: to another, we'll try our best.
- 28:45Speaker 4: You know, it comes down to can that quarterback take Reynolds,
- 28:48Speaker 4: and that's going to be a pretty good atmosphere on
- 28:50Speaker 4: Saturday night.
- 28:50Speaker 3: I mean, it always is at night in Tallahassee.
- 28:52Speaker 4: So, yeah, Halloween night, you know, or the ghosts and
- 28:55Speaker 4: the goblins of Doak Campbell messing around with the Tigers.
- 29:01Speaker 4: You got a young quarterback. That's a tough environment for
- 29:04Speaker 4: him to walk into.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Fingers crossed. I'll be there.
- 29:09Speaker 1: So one way or the other, we'll be talking about
- 29:12Speaker 1: it here soon. Jamie, I appreciate you inside the Gamecocks.
- 29:17Speaker 1: The Chiefs sports app, if I'm correct, make sure you're
