- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19OK, so autism and the three drink problem, what am I talking
- 0:24about? Let's get into it.
- 0:25OK, so there's this really interesting phenomenon that
- 0:28happens with a neuro division people, right?
- 0:30Mainly between people in the autumn inspection.
- 0:31But I have seen this within ADHD individuals, but it's mainly
- 0:35autistic individuals, right? And I call it the three drink
- 0:38problem. Now, as you can see, I have 3
- 0:39drinks next to me right here and I'm going to get into why this
- 0:42is a thing right now. Before I do, just want to let
- 0:44you know my name is Dan and I am autistic and I have ADHD and I
- 0:47do weekly videos all about this stuff.
- 0:48So if you're new around here, you want to learn more and come

- 0:55OK, so the three drink problem, what is it?
- 0:58Well, earlier this year I realized that I found myself
- 1:01having three drinks on the go at any one time.
- 1:04I have water, some kind of like fruit juice or something like
- 1:07that and a hot cup of tea. Now yes, I'm very British and
- 1:11I'm going to have tea. I mean, it could be coffee if I
- 1:12was American. I have a free autism Wifax PDF
- 1:15book that you can download right now from autismtips.net.
- 1:18It's completely free. You can go there right now and
- 1:20download it. But why?
- 1:22Why is this a thing now? If I've just called you out and
- 1:25you have 3 drinks on the go, you're watching this right now
- 1:26and you have 3 drinks on the go, right, or at least 2 drinks.
- 1:30I'm calling you out. You've got to give me a thumbs
- 1:32up and call me down below. Mcdan I feel I feel called out.
- 1:35And the reason is autism comes comorbidly, which means it comes
- 1:39Co occurring with sensory processing disorder.
- 1:42Now SPD, as it's more commonly said, is a condition where
- 1:47people will either be sensory seeking or sensory averting,
- 1:51which means that like you may be searching for sensory stimuli
- 1:55from like fidget gadgets or kind of like squish mallows or
- 1:58something fun. It could be a texture.
- 2:00It could be a smell that you're trying to smell.
- 2:02Like. I I love the smell of
- 2:03phyoliters. They're really cool and gasoline
- 2:05smells really good. Not very.
- 2:07They're not very healthy for you to smell these things, but I do
- 2:09like the smell of them, but also taste of things.
- 2:11Some things have high food, you know, aversions from smelling
- 2:15and tasting things, but also have high food sensory seeking.
- 2:18So sometimes I like to have like jello or Jelly in my mouth
- 2:22because like it just feels really good in your mouth.
- 2:25And the same with like ice cold water.
- 2:27Ice cold water always, you know, feels really, really good in
- 2:29your mouth. So what happens when you're
- 2:31sensory seeking or you're sensory averting?
- 2:34When you're sensory averting, it's moving away from pain and
- 2:37towards pleasure, right? Because you're going away from
- 2:39the thing that's causing your pain, going towards things
- 2:40'cause you pleasure. This allows you a drip feed of
- 2:45dopamine. Now dopamine is a hormone that
- 2:47gets released into your brain when you, it's kind of like a
- 2:50reward for something that is that you feel happy about.
- 2:54And that dopamine is a great feeling and everyone on the
- 2:57autism spectrum is dopamine deficient, which means we're
- 2:59constantly dopamine hungry. We're constantly searching for
- 3:02dopamine. Hence why autistic and ADHD
- 3:04individuals may get hooked on things like gambling, smoking,
- 3:06drinking alcohol, drugs, sex, pornography, you name it.
- 3:11It goes on for a long time now. All those things because we have
- 3:14addictive behaviors. The only reason we are addicted
- 3:17to these things or have addictive tendencies is because
- 3:20we are seeking dopamine. Now there are many ways to get
- 3:23dopamine. One of the most easy ways to get
- 3:26dopamine, I think for autistic individuals is to surround
- 3:29yourself with the thing that you have, which is your special
- 3:31interest. Now people on the autism
- 3:32spectrum obviously have a special interest like mine is
- 3:35social media marketing and conspiracy theories and all that
- 3:37kind of cool stuff. I just want to interject in this
- 3:40video here to let you know that confidence is one of the main
- 3:42issues that holds autistic individuals back from their full
- 3:45potential. This is why I read a course
- 3:46which is the Chaos to confidence in 90 days blueprint, which
- 3:50means I can take an autistic person from complete chaos to
- 3:53being very confident and acing their life.
- 3:55So if you're an autistic adult and you want access to this
- 3:58program, you can check it out. The link is in description and
- 4:00down below or you can go to the aspyworld.com/C 2C right now,
- 4:07the number 2 and get access to this program.
- 4:10But also it gives me dopamine, right?
- 4:13When I have those, when I sit down and I watch a documentary
- 4:16on aliens or something, like it gives me lots of dopamine and I
- 4:18feel really refreshed. Or if I'm learning, I'm reading
- 4:21a book or listening to a book, because obviously I'm dyslexic.
- 4:24Reading is quite hard. So I'm listening to a book, I'm
- 4:26getting loads of dopamine and I'm like, yes, I'm learning
- 4:28constantly. I have a thirst for learning,
- 4:30right? So we're always moving towards
- 4:32kind of wanting to get more dopamine.
- 4:34So why is this apparent? What is the three drink problem?
- 4:37Well, it's not really a problem. It's not something to solve, but
- 4:40it's something to really understand or just think.
- 4:43Individuals who have sensory processing disorder comorbidly
- 4:46or Co occurring alongside of will want to have three
- 4:50different experiences. Like when I'm sitting down and
- 4:52I'm drinking, I like to have tea because tea is kind of like it's
- 4:55warm and it's cool. It's not cool at all actually.
- 4:58It's very warm, but it's calming to me.
- 5:00It's like I, I, you know, the, the, the warmth of the water is
- 5:03really calming to me and it just is nice to sip on and it kind of
- 5:07gives you a little bit of like brain focus, but also gives me
- 5:09lots of dopamine at the same time.
- 5:11I'm actually seeking something that is fruity, a bit more
- 5:15sugary or something that's just a little bit more kind of going
- 5:17to give you a bit of a punch, right?
- 5:18So I like Gatorade Powerade prime again.
- 5:22Now this is one of the new ones, but it's really, really good and
- 5:25also everyone's favorite water. And why do I have water?
- 5:28Because water gives me it quenches my thirst, right,
- 5:31because I'm trying to I'm drinking all these things and
- 5:34and I need the water to quench like this.
- 5:35Now, what normally happens? I do it in an order the tea will
- 5:37be cooling down, I'll drink all the juice and then I'll sip the
- 5:40tea and then I'll have the water alongside it.
- 5:42So I have like a nice balance of hot to cold.
- 5:45And this happens all the time. So when I go to a bar, if I'm,
- 5:49you know, if we go to the bar to have food or something, we go to
- 5:52a restaurant to have food, which doesn't happen that often
- 5:54because century of visions. But when we do go to places like
- 5:57that, I will always order a tap water.
- 6:00And then I'll always order kind of like some fun drink, like a,
- 6:02a ginger ale or like an orange juice or something like that.
- 6:05And then at the end of the, you know, during the end of the
- 6:08after we've eaten, I'll order some tea because having a hot
- 6:11drink with your like hot food is such a boomer thing to do.
- 6:16Have you guys noticed that? Like if you go to like
- 6:18McDonald's or something, it's always the older generation who
- 6:21are having like coffee with like a Big Mac Like I, I've no idea
- 6:25why that makes sense. Like if you are as equally
- 6:27confused about that as I am, probably comment down below and
- 6:30let me know. So this is the three drink
- 6:32problem, but is it really a problem?
- 6:34I don't think so. I think having three drinks on
- 6:36the go is a good thing because it keeps you hydrated and we all
- 6:39need to be hydrated, but it's also giving you dopamine.
- 6:41So what happens when you get dopamine from all these drinks?
- 6:44Well, the cool thing is that when you have dopamine slow
- 6:49release over a period of time, because all these drinks are
- 6:51going to take you, you know, way over an hour to complete.
- 6:53You know, the water will last you all day.
- 6:55The tea is going to give you, you know, a good 20 minutes
- 6:57drinking this and enjoying it. And the juice could last you all
- 7:00day too. And so you're getting a little
- 7:01spurt of dopamine all the way through.
- 7:03Why is this good? Because the three drink problem
- 7:05actually gives you access to dopamine throughout the day and
- 7:08slow release dopamine, meaning that you're constantly being
- 7:10topped up, meaning that you have the ability to stay focused and
- 7:14really kind of home in on the things that you want to do.
- 7:18And one of the most interesting things is, is say I don't have
- 7:21a, a fruit just drink. I'll have a caffeinated drink or
- 7:24even the tea sometimes is caffeinated.
- 7:26And why is it good for people on the autumn spectrum to have
- 7:28caffeine with within their three drink problem?
- 7:31Well, caffeine actually helps autistic individuals calm down
- 7:34because autistic individuals like ADHD individuals will have
- 7:37lots of stimulant inside their body anyway.
- 7:39They're kind of like quite wound up and like, as you can tell, I
- 7:42talk fast because I've always wound up.
- 7:44They actually treat ADHD with stimulants, right?
- 7:47With amphetamine. Why?
- 7:49Because when you flood your body with more amphetamine, more
- 7:52stimulants, then your body will produce serotonin, which is
- 7:55another hormone that will help regulate the calmness and and
- 7:59the relaxing feeling. So if you're having caffeine and
- 8:02caffeinated drinks within a three drink problem, you're
- 8:04actually doing yourself a good service because you're actually
- 8:06giving your body something that's going to help it.
- 8:08If you're on the autism spectrum of ADHD, you're going to help
- 8:11yourself focus, you're going to give yourself dopamine.
- 8:12That's a good thing. I have rate the three drink
- 8:15problem and I think this is great.
- 8:16Now, if you also agree, pop in a comment down below saying, Dan,
- 8:19I'm part of the three drink problem crew.
