- 0:15Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:18Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bars.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Bazar from Lazarre. Hello, everybody nailed it, joined us always
- 0:24Speaker 2: buy ours bar cap. Here is Evan Lazar and Alex
- 0:31Speaker 2: bars I posted this on Twitter, like red on red
- 0:34Speaker 2: red jerseys on a red field, Like come on Eastern Washington, Like,
- 0:37Speaker 2: oh I love the red No, no, that's not love
- 0:40Speaker 2: the red field. Okay, but you can't wear red jerseys
- 0:43Speaker 2: on a red can Have you ever seen the thing
- 0:45Speaker 2: with Boise State where the guy lies down on the field.
- 0:49Speaker 1: On the kicker that should be It's a whole field
- 0:52Speaker 1: of nag back and I don't want to see colored
- 0:54Speaker 1: fields in the NFL.
- 0:55Speaker 2: This organization did that back in the day, there would
- 0:58Speaker 2: be a Supreme Court hearing of the pack. The Jets
- 1:02Speaker 2: can do it. There's not smart enough to hello. Everybody.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Welcome in Patriots Catch twenty two. Evan Lazar, Alex Bart
- 1:10Speaker 2: Bart The tent pole events of the offseason are over.
- 1:14Speaker 2: The free agency, the draft, all in the rearview mirror.
- 1:18Speaker 2: So it's a good time to take a step back,
- 1:21Speaker 2: go little bird's eye view roster reset style. So we'll
- 1:24Speaker 2: do that today resetting the offense, and then next week
- 1:28Speaker 2: we'll do the defense. Do you have rookie Mini caamp
- 1:31Speaker 2: coming up this weekend? Hopefully we'll get out there and
- 1:34Speaker 2: be able to see some of those practices as well,
- 1:36Speaker 2: maybe one of those practices at least, so we'll have
- 1:39Speaker 2: that for you to a little preview for you as well.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And I want to open the show with some news
- 1:46Speaker 2: about Julie Edelman going into the Patriots Hall of Fame
- 1:48Speaker 2: and George Pickens got traded, which I'm sure people are
- 1:51Speaker 2: gonna want to talk about. Don't forget we have rookie
- 1:53Speaker 2: numbers too. We have rookie numbers. And today we'll definitely
- 1:57Speaker 2: open up the phone lines and the emails to you guys.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I know we didn't do that last week because there
- 2:02Speaker 2: was a lot to get to, but this week we'll
- 2:04Speaker 2: definitely have you guys on the phones and everything as well.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So that's the agenda for today's show. The Fred Paul
- 2:12Speaker 2: and Matt Smith got me all fired up before the
- 2:16Speaker 2: show today, Alex, just for you about the Celtics of course,
- 2:20Speaker 2: what else, you know, nothing really gets me fired up
- 2:22Speaker 2: these days besides defending defending the.
- 2:25Speaker 1: You can't have a logical conversation about that game. You
- 2:27Speaker 1: really can't.
- 2:28Speaker 2: It wasn't even just about that game. This is not
- 2:31Speaker 2: a Celtics show, and I know some people get mad
- 2:32Speaker 2: when we talk about other sports, but I'm trying not
- 2:36Speaker 2: to let that spill over into this show too much.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Because they were they were too riled up.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You know that that you can get riled up talking
- 2:42Speaker 1: to me, So careful nice.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Uh, they are coming at my boy Jason Tatum. You
- 2:48Speaker 2: know I will. We'll go go to the grave defending
- 2:52Speaker 2: Jason Tatum if I have to. So, you know, we
- 2:54Speaker 2: we we were getting into it a little bit. But
- 2:57Speaker 2: there might be a football adjacent converse station. That's uh
- 3:01Speaker 2: that that you know, a philosophical conversation there is between
- 3:05Speaker 2: you and I with with the Celtics. So maybe we'll
- 3:07Speaker 2: get into that in the second hour and make it
- 3:09Speaker 2: football related. We're not you know, we won't get too
- 3:11Speaker 2: much into the Celtics, but uh, support the home team.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Join New England's staff here at Jiled Stadium. Seasonal positions
- 3:17Speaker 2: available in food and beverage, parking, and security. Visit www
- 3:21Speaker 2: dot thecraft group dot com, slash careers and apply today.
- 3:25Speaker 2: All right, we're off and running. Uh. Do you want
- 3:27Speaker 2: to start with news, And obviously the biggest news of
- 3:30Speaker 2: the week. It's is a slower week in terms of
- 3:33Speaker 2: personnel moves and all that kind of stuff. Like I mentioned,
- 3:35Speaker 2: it's called kind of in the rearview. But the big
- 3:38Speaker 2: news this week Julian Edelman going into the Patriots Hall
- 3:41Speaker 2: of Fame UH officially announced on Monday, UH edging out
- 3:46Speaker 2: Adam Vinteri and Logan Mankins as the finalists. So there's
- 3:51Speaker 2: a couple of points, you know, to talk about with this. Obviously,
- 3:55Speaker 2: there's giving Edelman his flowers. And I want to say,
- 3:59Speaker 2: you know, I said when the finalists came out that
- 4:01Speaker 2: I would vouch for Vinitary. I did vouch for Vinitary. Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 2: But what that being said, there's no arguments about Edelman
- 4:11Speaker 2: going in either, Like it's not like it's like we're
- 4:14Speaker 2: saying that Edelman shouldn't be. It's tough.
- 4:16Speaker 1: They both deserve to be first ballot and only one
- 4:18Speaker 1: could get in at once.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Right exactly, And so no one is arguing whatsoever that
- 4:24Speaker 2: Edelman should not be in Patriots Hall of Fame. He
- 4:26Speaker 2: is a slam dunk hundred percent Patriots Hall of Famer.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But I think what complicated things, Just to kind of
- 4:33Speaker 2: peel back the curtain a little bit, was last year
- 4:37Speaker 2: was technically Adam Vinitari's first year of eligibility. Excuse me,
- 4:42Speaker 2: but they put Tom Brady in and bypass the voting process,
- 4:47Speaker 2: which is totally understandable. But last year would have been
- 4:50Speaker 2: Vinitari's first year, then this year would have been Edelman's
- 4:53Speaker 2: first year, and the next year would be gronk'x first year,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and they all probably would have gone in first ballot Edelman,
- 5:01Speaker 2: Gronk Brady pushed Vinitarian Edelman into the same class, so
- 5:05Speaker 2: to speak. And so now you have you created a
- 5:07Speaker 2: little bit of a log jam here. So it's disappointing
- 5:10Speaker 2: that it's gonna take Vinitaria some time, because I don't
- 5:13Speaker 2: think he's gonna get it next year either, because I
- 5:15Speaker 2: think Gronk will will be first ballot just like Edelman.
- 5:18Speaker 2: So you might take Vinitaria sometime. But other than that,
- 5:22Speaker 2: you know, just what were your thoughts on Edelman getting
- 5:25Speaker 2: named first ballot, and you know we can reminisce a
- 5:28Speaker 2: little bit about his career. Yeah, I mean, absolutely deserves it.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Again, some of these fans might be younger, you know,
- 5:36Speaker 1: they know the stories, they've seen the highlights, but they
- 5:38Speaker 1: don't have that that connection connection with Vinetaria. They certainly
- 5:43Speaker 1: do with Edelman because he's not just a player that
- 5:46Speaker 1: was a good player, and I mean he obviously was.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He's top three, top five, and just about every major
- 5:51Speaker 1: receiving category for the Patriots for in terms of franchise records.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You talk about a big game player, you talk about
- 5:58Speaker 1: a guy that's stepped up in big games in big
- 6:00Speaker 1: moments time and time again. If we're gonna reminisce Evan,
- 6:03Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about Edelman's biggest moments. We're gonna talk
- 6:05Speaker 1: about the hit he took from Cam Chancellor in Super
- 6:08Speaker 1: Bowl forty nine in the yards after the catch there
- 6:10Speaker 1: him catching the big touchdown. I think it was later
- 6:12Speaker 1: on that drive, right or the next drive, whatever it was.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Definitely again, we're gonna right, We're gonna talk about the
- 6:18Speaker 1: fingertip catch in Super Bowl fifty one. We're gonna talk
- 6:21Speaker 1: about the double pass against the Ravens. I've been talking
- 6:24Speaker 1: about this now for thirty forty five seconds. I just
- 6:26Speaker 1: listed four or five things and I didn't even get
- 6:29Speaker 1: to his Super Bowl MVP. That's how unbelievable. This guy
- 6:32Speaker 1: was in the big moments. So that is to me
- 6:36Speaker 1: what puts him over the top, not just the production.
- 6:40Speaker 1: The production is obviously unbelievable, and the production the dependability,
- 6:44Speaker 1: the reliability, the consistency. But there have been a lot
- 6:48Speaker 1: of reliable, consistent receivers that have come through here. What
- 6:51Speaker 1: makes Julian Edelman different is his ability to come up
- 6:55Speaker 1: in the big moment. And some people will look at
- 6:57Speaker 1: this and say, well, should Wes Welker get in? He
- 7:00Speaker 1: had better numbers across the board than Edelman did. But
- 7:03Speaker 1: if you start talking about putting Wes Welker in the
- 7:04Speaker 1: Patriots Hall of Fame or the NFL Hall of Fame
- 7:06Speaker 1: for that matter, what's the first thing A lot of
- 7:09Speaker 1: people are going to bring up the drop right Edelman
- 7:13Speaker 1: time and time again in the big moment, and you
- 7:16Speaker 1: just don't. I feel like it was underrated throughout his career.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Wasn't talked about enough throughout his career, not just that
- 7:21Speaker 1: he was a good player, but his ability to constantly
- 7:24Speaker 1: show up when Brady needed him and when the team
- 7:27Speaker 1: needed him. You know, the regular season, even the twenty
- 7:30Speaker 1: four point comeback against Denver, that was like one of
- 7:33Speaker 1: his first big breakout games. Just a guy that had
- 7:36Speaker 1: a knack for the moment and that that should be
- 7:39Speaker 1: to me, the defining element of Julian Edelden.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Edelman's grid. Look, some of that's Brady too.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Obviously Brady was the one throwing him the ball, but
- 7:47Speaker 1: it is like that that level of clutchness, like he
- 7:50Speaker 1: belonged to that conversation, the most clutch athletes we've seen
- 7:54Speaker 1: in this city.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that, you know the time that we
- 7:57Speaker 2: got to overlap with Brady and Edelman eighteen in twenty nineteen,
- 8:02Speaker 2: I remember when Edelman was coming back from the suspension
- 8:06Speaker 2: and Tom Brady talking about getting Edelman back And I
- 8:11Speaker 2: don't know if it's a suspension or I think the
- 8:13Speaker 2: suspension the injury happened at the same time, right the
- 8:15Speaker 2: ACL injury.
- 8:16Speaker 1: He tours ACL and then he missed that year and
- 8:19Speaker 1: then he got suspended coming back, right, so it must
- 8:21Speaker 1: have missed the beginning of eighteen, So it.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Must have been twenty eighteen then, yeah, Yeah, And Brady
- 8:26Speaker 2: just talked a lot about being able to read his
- 8:30Speaker 2: body language, read his movements off the line of scrimmage,
- 8:34Speaker 2: and just this comfort level that he had with how
- 8:38Speaker 2: early in the route Edelman was able to get open,
- 8:40Speaker 2: Like not just the fact that he always, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 2: was in the right places, but just how for a
- 8:46Speaker 2: quarterback when you drop back to pass, to have that
- 8:49Speaker 2: comfort or that feeling knowing that this receiver can separate
- 8:54Speaker 2: quickly is just such a a feeling of just like
- 9:00Speaker 2: calmness for a QB that you have a guy like that. Obviously,
- 9:04Speaker 2: Edelman was not a down the field, you know, vertical
- 9:07Speaker 2: explosive type of guy. It was the quickness and the
- 9:11Speaker 2: play strength and the toughness and the reliability that made
- 9:15Speaker 2: him stand out. But I remember Brady talking about just
- 9:20Speaker 2: having this feel and this inate ability with Edelman to understand, Okay,
- 9:24Speaker 2: if he puts his weight on his foot like this,
- 9:26Speaker 2: he's probably gonna break this way, or if his hips
- 9:29Speaker 2: are moving that way, he's probably setting this up to
- 9:31Speaker 2: go in the other direction. And so many of the
- 9:34Speaker 2: routes that he ran had options on them, and you know,
- 9:36Speaker 2: had multiple branches of him breaking and whatever way he
- 9:40Speaker 2: wanted to break and all that kind of stuff. So
- 9:43Speaker 2: that from a football standpoint, But you mentioned it a
- 9:47Speaker 2: second ago about the connection with the fan base, and
- 9:52Speaker 2: I think above all else. That is probably why Julian
- 9:55Speaker 2: Edelman is a first ballot Patriots Hall of Famer and
- 9:58Speaker 2: why he got in before Vin Terry is that he
- 10:03Speaker 2: has really ingrained himself in Foxborough. You know, the Foxborough
- 10:07Speaker 2: for everything is maybe a little corny, but it is
- 10:09Speaker 2: what he really exemplified that played for one team, the
- 10:13Speaker 2: Pats for Tampa, didn't go to Tampa when he had
- 10:16Speaker 2: the opportunity to. Was a seventh round pick who converted quarterback.
- 10:22Speaker 2: We all know the story underdog story. I didn't really
- 10:26Speaker 2: flash right away, like wasn't like an instant contributor, had
- 10:29Speaker 2: to kind of earn his role and play his way
- 10:32Speaker 2: onto the offense.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I remember he almost left because it took him like
- 10:35Speaker 1: four or five years to really get involved. And he
- 10:38Speaker 1: was the Giants, right and he thought he was going
- 10:41Speaker 1: to leave.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and you look at also the they signed Amadola
- 10:46Speaker 2: when Welker leaves, and a lot of people thought Amandola
- 10:49Speaker 2: was going to be the next guy, and Edelman really
- 10:53Speaker 2: was the one that was the one a to that
- 10:55Speaker 2: you know with a Mondola as well. So all those
- 10:58Speaker 2: types of things are the competitiveness and and just the
- 11:05Speaker 2: the underdog story. We love that around here, Oh we
- 11:10Speaker 2: just do right, And and Brady's in his own category,
- 11:12Speaker 2: but he's similarly as an underdog story as a sixth
- 11:15Speaker 2: round pick, and Edelman is seventh round pick. Like these
- 11:19Speaker 2: guys were not. This was not Calvin Johnson and Peyton
- 11:22Speaker 2: Manning coming out of out of college right where their
- 11:24Speaker 2: top five picks in the draft and everybody thought they
- 11:27Speaker 2: were going to be stars. So Edelman earned this like
- 11:32Speaker 2: through and through, like he worked his butt off to
- 11:34Speaker 2: get this, to get to the red jacket status. So
- 11:38Speaker 2: you have to tip your cap to that. And obviously,
- 11:41Speaker 2: you know, post career, he's been very committed to the
- 11:45Speaker 2: Patriots and you know, very much a defender of the
- 11:48Speaker 2: Wall now on his seventeen different podcasts and everything like that.
- 11:53Speaker 2: So he's ingrained himself in Patriot culture. And one of
- 11:57Speaker 2: the things we talked a little bit about yesterday Unfiltered
- 12:00Speaker 2: and I feel like we're we're almost a little bit
- 12:06Speaker 2: uniquely in a spot for this because both you and
- 12:08Speaker 2: I were old enough for the first part of the
- 12:12Speaker 2: dynasty to remember it and to have lived it, but
- 12:16Speaker 2: we weren't. I was eight when they won in two
- 12:18Speaker 2: thousand and one, so we weren't old enough to really
- 12:22Speaker 2: understand the game of football like we do now, or
- 12:24Speaker 2: like we did you know, as we got older, but
- 12:27Speaker 2: we still witnessed it. And I think for a lot
- 12:29Speaker 2: of people that were born a little bit later than us,
- 12:33Speaker 2: there really isn't a connection to Adam Vinitari. And I
- 12:36Speaker 2: can understand that like the kicker with the white beard
- 12:38Speaker 2: on the Colts, he most likely spent there as some
- 12:41Speaker 2: people that probably only knew Adam Vinitari as truly as
- 12:44Speaker 2: a cult right, that are rooting for the team today.
- 12:47Speaker 2: And when you put him up against a guy like
- 12:50Speaker 2: Edelman and you put him in a fan vote on
- 12:52Speaker 2: social media, this is going to happen because I know
- 12:55Speaker 2: there are people that are unhappy that it didn't go
- 12:57Speaker 2: in ch chronological order and Vinitaria didn't get in before.
- 13:02Speaker 2: And like I said at the top, I would have
- 13:03Speaker 2: voted in Vinitary first and done it in chronological order.
- 13:08Speaker 2: But the reality is is that it's gonna be Edelman
- 13:11Speaker 2: this year, as we know, it's most likely going to
- 13:13Speaker 2: be Gronck next year in twenty six, and then maybe
- 13:16Speaker 2: Vinitary gets over the hump in twenty seven when the
- 13:20Speaker 2: decks clear a little bit for him in twenty seven.
- 13:23Speaker 2: But there's a lot of Patriots fans that are younger.
- 13:26Speaker 2: There's a lot of Patriots fans that became Patriots fans
- 13:30Speaker 2: during the dynasty and not necessarily at the beginning of
- 13:33Speaker 2: the dynasty in two thousand and one when we remember
- 13:37Speaker 2: all the kicks. But you know, not everybody remembers, you know,
- 13:41Speaker 2: the Snow Bowl and or you know, Super Bowl thirty
- 13:44Speaker 2: six or whatever the case may be. But I think
- 13:47Speaker 2: with Edelman, it's the two things you mentioned. You talked
- 13:50Speaker 2: about the clutchnists. That's obviously there. Maybe it's three things.
- 13:54Speaker 2: The clutchness, his connection to Brady I think matters, their friendship,
- 13:59Speaker 2: their relationship on and off the field, I think matters,
- 14:03Speaker 2: And obviously you know, his the fact that he's really
- 14:06Speaker 2: embraced and ingrained himself in Boston sports culture is a
- 14:12Speaker 2: big part of it as well. So props to him,
- 14:15Speaker 2: kudos to him. We still don't know when that ceremony
- 14:18Speaker 2: is going to be. Him and Bill Parcells will we'll
- 14:20Speaker 2: go in on the same day, so we'll have those announcements,
- 14:23Speaker 2: I'm sure here shortly or at some point on the horizon,
- 14:27Speaker 2: but we don't know exactly when that's going to be,
- 14:30Speaker 2: but it will be the two of them, and it
- 14:32Speaker 2: will be a cool day. It always is a fun day.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Well, and it's really two days because you get the
- 14:36Speaker 1: one over the summery he gets inducted and then usually
- 14:39Speaker 1: like they'll do, to use the home opener right the
- 14:41Speaker 1: long room at halftime.
- 14:42Speaker 2: So that's a fun one too.
- 14:44Speaker 1: With Mike Vrabel that ended up being like a franchise
- 14:46Speaker 1: changing moment, that speech he gave at halftime of that game.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I don't think the Titans loved it, no, but it
- 14:53Speaker 1: worked out. So yeah, no, it'll be it'll be fun.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, All right, let's get into the roster reset
- 14:59Speaker 2: and then well we'll join do the new stuff or
- 15:01Speaker 2: did join do that later? Well, well, I'm sure the
- 15:04Speaker 2: people will ask us about those things. But if you
- 15:08Speaker 2: want to quickly, you know, we can go quickly on
- 15:10Speaker 2: George Pickens. George Pickens is one of those guys that
- 15:15Speaker 2: kind of irritates me. I'm not gonna lie, not him personally,
- 15:18Speaker 2: but like the George Pickens thing, because this goes back
- 15:20Speaker 2: to the draft, right, this goes back to twenty twenty two,
- 15:23Speaker 2: and maybe in twenty twenty two you could make the
- 15:26Speaker 2: case that they could have taken on a little bit
- 15:28Speaker 2: more risk with the character with the player back then
- 15:31Speaker 2: when it was still Bill Belichick and you're coming off
- 15:33Speaker 2: Mac Jones's rookie season, you went to the playoffs, you
- 15:36Speaker 2: had some promising things going in your direction. But the
- 15:41Speaker 2: context of George Pickens, when we compare him, you know,
- 15:44Speaker 2: to Taekwon Thorton especially, always gets thrown out the door
- 15:47Speaker 2: that there were some major character red flags about George
- 15:52Speaker 2: Pickens coming out of the draft, and also a major
- 15:55Speaker 2: injury red flags too. He really only had one season
- 15:58Speaker 2: at Georgia where he was productive, and he blew his
- 16:01Speaker 2: knee out in the second year that he was supposed
- 16:03Speaker 2: to be a full time player at Georgia. So he
- 16:07Speaker 2: had injuries, he had character concerns, and this time around
- 16:12Speaker 2: he's been a very productive player in the NFL. He's
- 16:15Speaker 2: a good football player. But now it's similarly to the
- 16:19Speaker 2: conversation that we have with Luther Burden, where the Patriots
- 16:24Speaker 2: just don't feel like they're in a position but based
- 16:28Speaker 2: off their actions, I think they agree with us that
- 16:31Speaker 2: they are not in a position to take on these
- 16:34Speaker 2: types of character risks. Yet, like is George Pickens really
- 16:38Speaker 2: the guy that you want to take on, and you're
- 16:41Speaker 2: one of this thing with Mike Rabel. The answer seems
- 16:44Speaker 2: to be no across the board, including in the draft. Yeah,
- 16:48Speaker 2: I agree with you.
- 16:49Speaker 1: My other thing on Pickens, I actually will kind of
- 16:51Speaker 1: nitpick as a player a little bit, Like a big
- 16:55Speaker 1: part of the Josh McDaniels offense is consistency. He's not
- 16:59Speaker 1: a consistent player. He disappears. So he had nine hundred
- 17:03Speaker 1: yards last year, exactly fifty five percent of his production
- 17:06Speaker 1: came in just five games. If you go back the
- 17:09Speaker 1: year before, he had five one hundred yard games. He
- 17:13Speaker 1: also had nine games where he had less than fifty yards.
- 17:18Speaker 1: So he's all over the map in terms of production.
- 17:22Speaker 1: And that's just not what this offense is. This offense
- 17:24Speaker 1: is about consistency. The highs are there, but I don't
- 17:27Speaker 1: think the consistency's there for him to be a true
- 17:29Speaker 1: number one. He's best next to a guy like a
- 17:32Speaker 1: DK Metcalf, where he was in Pittsburgh, next to Seedee Lamb,
- 17:36Speaker 1: which he will be in.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Dallas.
- 17:39Speaker 1: The other thing, Yeah, to the character point, you're exactly right,
- 17:42Speaker 1: especially when he's a talented guy. Let's not mince worries
- 17:47Speaker 1: about that he's a talented guy. Yeah, what's the track
- 17:51Speaker 1: record of Mike Tomlin moving on from talented wide receivers?
- 17:56Speaker 1: Did they usually work out when they leave Pittsburgh? No, Yeah,
- 18:01Speaker 1: that's a good So, like the there's the character thing
- 18:05Speaker 1: and then there's what this is. Because the Steelers have
- 18:08Speaker 1: a history of this. They will bring in guys that
- 18:12Speaker 1: have character issues and make them work up until a point.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Once it doesn't work anymore, they move on, and generally
- 18:17Speaker 1: they move on at the right time. Antonio Brown's obviously
- 18:19Speaker 1: like the poster child for this, but we've seen it
- 18:21Speaker 1: with other players as well, Johnson, Deontay Johnson, sort of
- 18:27Speaker 1: Chase Claypool that was building anything else.
- 18:30Speaker 2: But like, yeah, if Mike Tomlin.
- 18:32Speaker 1: And the Steelers are moving on from a receiver, that's
- 18:35Speaker 1: usually a red flag because they know wide receiver talent,
- 18:38Speaker 1: I would argue better than maybe any team in the league. Yeah,
- 18:40Speaker 1: so I have no problem with them passing on George I.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I honestly didn't have a ton of problem in the
- 18:47Speaker 1: draft at the time because of his industry injuries. Now,
- 18:50Speaker 1: it doesn't mean I would have taken Taekwon Thornton. There
- 18:52Speaker 1: but you know, there were other picks to be made,
- 18:55Speaker 1: but I don't have a problem on them passing on
- 18:57Speaker 1: George Pickens.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I really don't. Yeah, And I guess that maybe some
- 19:01Speaker 2: of the calculations that go on with player evaluation is
- 19:05Speaker 2: knowing when a guy is truly there's a difference between
- 19:10Speaker 2: a guy being a diva and a guy being a cancer, right,
- 19:13Speaker 2: and knowing the difference between those, I think is part
- 19:16Speaker 2: of vetting players in the personnel process. But there's always
- 19:21Speaker 2: a give and take of is this guy really worked
- 19:25Speaker 2: the risk in terms of the talent? And I think
- 19:29Speaker 2: the world of Luther Burden, Like he probably is one
- 19:33Speaker 2: of my favorite receivers, if not my favorite out of
- 19:36Speaker 2: this past draft, Travis Hunter notwithstanding. But was Luther Burden
- 19:43Speaker 2: so good that you just had to do it? Like
- 19:46Speaker 2: I'll give you an example, you know, with a guy
- 19:48Speaker 2: like more that was in the league, kind of like
- 19:51Speaker 2: George Pickens, like at the time when they made the
- 19:53Speaker 2: move for Randy Moss, Like that's Randy Moss, right, Like
- 19:56Speaker 2: we're talking about one of the greatest wide receivers of
- 19:59Speaker 2: all time, if not the greatest wide receiver of all time.
- 20:02Speaker 2: That that one is. Yeah, at year, what six or
- 20:06Speaker 2: seven of this thing with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Uh,
- 20:09Speaker 2: and the culture is completely established and the foundation of
- 20:12Speaker 2: the of the program is completely established. Like that's when
- 20:15Speaker 2: you go ahead and you take those swings, and and
- 20:17Speaker 2: Bill took a million of them, Like Randy Moss is
- 20:19Speaker 2: the most probably the most successful. You know, Corey Dillon
- 20:22Speaker 2: is up there. Rodney Harrison had his own you know issues,
- 20:25Speaker 2: uh for some people coming to New England. But for
- 20:29Speaker 2: all of those, there's also you know, Albert Haynesworth and
- 20:31Speaker 2: and uh, you know Antonio Brown. Antonio Brown, right exactly.
- 20:35Speaker 2: So there's good and bad there, but that at that
- 20:38Speaker 2: point of your your build is when you start to
- 20:41Speaker 2: take on those guys. And George Pickens is not Randy Moss. No,
- 20:45Speaker 2: So I just I understand that if George Pickens goes
- 20:48Speaker 2: on to have a really good year in Dallas, or
- 20:51Speaker 2: if Luther Burden has a really good year with Caleb
- 20:54Speaker 2: Williams in Chicago, we're going to get a lot of
- 20:56Speaker 2: calls and emails and people upset that the Patriots didn't
- 20:59Speaker 2: take on these players. But the process to me is
- 21:03Speaker 2: it makes sense, Like I am on board with what
- 21:06Speaker 2: they're trying to establish here. In two years, if this
- 21:09Speaker 2: is still running like a well oiled machine and they
- 21:13Speaker 2: want to take on some character risk and the drafter
- 21:15Speaker 2: and free agency or a trade, go for it. But
- 21:18Speaker 2: right now I understand why they want to get the
- 21:20Speaker 2: good guys in the building first, and the leaders and
- 21:22Speaker 2: the captain material type players will see what happens.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I will say, if we're gonna look ahead to revisionist history,
- 21:30Speaker 1: I would much rather take the risk with Luther Burden
- 21:33Speaker 1: than with George Pickens.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Agreed like that that was the one.
- 21:35Speaker 1: If you want to talk about where they missed, right,
- 21:37Speaker 1: and we'll see how it plays al Kawams and all that.
- 21:39Speaker 1: But I'm saying it now so that if we end
- 21:41Speaker 1: up talking about it in three months, people can't say
- 21:44Speaker 1: that it's revisionist history. I don't mind him passing on Pickens.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I'm saying that now, and he could put up a
- 21:50Speaker 1: thousand yards this year. So with Dak Prescott Ceedee Lamb
- 21:54Speaker 1: on the other side, it's a different situation.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Than this here.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Yeah, the Burden one is, but if something's going to
- 22:01Speaker 1: burn them, it's passing on Luther Burton. To me, it's
- 22:03Speaker 1: not because I don't think Trayvon Henderson's a really good player,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I do, but positional value wide receiver, running back all.
- 22:08Speaker 2: That, it'd be interesting to see if Travon Henderson has
- 22:12Speaker 2: a really productive year and Luther Burden has a really
- 22:14Speaker 2: productive year. Are we just saying, oh, well, all's well,
- 22:19Speaker 2: that ends well? Are we saying that we still you know.
- 22:21Speaker 1: They tie break will be Kyle Williams because people will say, well,
- 22:24Speaker 1: they could have gotten a running back later, and right right.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Fair enough? All right? So I think you know, really
- 22:30Speaker 2: that that's There's not much else going on other than
- 22:33Speaker 2: that breaking this morning in terms of news around the NFL.
- 22:36Speaker 2: So let's get into roster re said on the offense,
- 22:41Speaker 2: and you know, I have some facilitation style questions for
- 22:45Speaker 2: us here, okay, And you know, I'll just go through
- 22:48Speaker 2: every position on offense and I'll read out the names
- 22:51Speaker 2: of the players that are currently on the ninety man
- 22:53Speaker 2: roster for the Patriots. So we'll start with quarterback. Not
- 22:55Speaker 2: a ton to unpack here, obviously, with Drake May and
- 22:58Speaker 2: Joshua Dobbs holding down one two on the depth chart.
- 23:02Speaker 2: And I don't think there's any chance then Ben Woolridge,
- 23:05Speaker 2: the reported undrafted free agent signing, and I should mention
- 23:08Speaker 2: that all the undrafted rookies we talk about it's reportedly
- 23:11Speaker 2: right now. We still haven't officially announced. Those should be shortly,
- 23:16Speaker 2: maybe the next couple of days.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But I would think it's weird we have practice, Yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 1: on Friday, rookie practice.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I think by Friday, Yeah, it should. They should
- 23:25Speaker 2: be out soon.
- 23:26Speaker 1: And that's also why the ud face didn't get numbers.
- 23:28Speaker 1: If anybody's wondering.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so Drake made Joshua Dobbs, Ben Woolridge. Right now
- 23:32Speaker 2: is the quarterback depth chart? There's really two quick questions
- 23:35Speaker 2: to me here, or one question and then one just
- 23:38Speaker 2: sort of theory of mine that I've been kicking around.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I have thought of mine. The need to carry three quarterbacks.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I don't think when I talk about carry three, I
- 23:47Speaker 2: mean on the fifty three man roster at the end
- 23:49Speaker 2: of camp. Really, I don't see any need to carry three.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Last year they carried three because Joe Milton had developmental upside,
- 23:56Speaker 2: so they held onto him. But when it comes to
- 23:59Speaker 2: Ben Woolridge, I don't think we're going to get into
- 24:01Speaker 2: that territory. Plus, nowadays, with the extra emergency quarterback, you
- 24:07Speaker 2: can call up the emergencies quarterback from the practice squad.
- 24:10Speaker 2: So if you want to do that, I think you
- 24:11Speaker 2: can only do it three times. Yeah, well that's true
- 24:15Speaker 2: for any player. But yeah, you could do it three times, right,
- 24:17Speaker 2: So you're not, in my opinion, you're not carrying Ben
- 24:21Speaker 2: Woolridge on the fifty three just to make him the
- 24:23Speaker 2: emergency quarterback seventeen straight times. I just I don't think
- 24:27Speaker 2: that he's going to be good enough to warrant that.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Like if he comes out in camp and as a
- 24:30Speaker 2: great camp, then sure, I guess, But I don't think
- 24:33Speaker 2: he's good enough to warrant that. I think they're keeping
- 24:36Speaker 2: two quarterbacks, and that seems to be like the plan
- 24:38Speaker 2: all along, hence the Joe Milton trade, you know, all
- 24:41Speaker 2: these different things that they've done. So my guess is
- 24:44Speaker 2: that we'll get to the end of August early September
- 24:46Speaker 2: whenever roster cut down days, and it will be May
- 24:50Speaker 2: and Dobbs and then maybe a guy like wool Ridge
- 24:53Speaker 2: stress stashed excuse me, on the practice squad. But I
- 24:56Speaker 2: just I don't see any I.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Don't think the emergency third quarterback can come in practice squad.
- 25:00Speaker 1: When did they change that?
- 25:02Speaker 2: Like last year? Or the year before.
- 25:03Speaker 1: So it was voted and approved last year, and I'm
- 25:06Speaker 1: reading it in the NFLPA vetoed the change.
- 25:10Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure that's a change. Maybe I'm wrong. At
- 25:13Speaker 2: the same time, you're gonna carry You're gonna carry a
- 25:15Speaker 2: third quarterback just to make them the emergency qu I
- 25:16Speaker 2: think so.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I think a lot of teams are doing that. It
- 25:18Speaker 1: might not be Ben Woldridge, they might find somebody else.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I think they're gonna a third quarterback. He might not
- 25:22Speaker 1: be one right now, but I think they're not a
- 25:23Speaker 1: third quarterback.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I just don't see the point of that. Like you're
- 25:25Speaker 2: racing a roster spot on a on a on a
- 25:27Speaker 2: quarterback that's never gonna play like the I think team's
- 25:30Speaker 2: value that security mine. The dominoes that you have to
- 25:33Speaker 2: get to to get the quarterback on the field is crazy,
- 25:37Speaker 2: Like both guys have to be like hurt and rolled
- 25:40Speaker 2: out of the game for it even to happen. And like,
- 25:44Speaker 2: so you're just gonna take up a roster spot all
- 25:46Speaker 2: year long, Like it made sense when Milton was taking
- 25:48Speaker 2: up a roster spot because, like I just said, he
- 25:50Speaker 2: had developmental upside. I don't see what the upside is
- 25:53Speaker 2: from carrying like another journeyman no offense to Joshua Dobbs
- 25:57Speaker 2: or you know a guy that like wool reach like
- 25:59Speaker 2: an undred rookie. I mean, maybe you end up being right.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I just I don't really see that. Along with the
- 26:06Speaker 2: roster crunch, the other thing that I wanted to talk
- 26:08Speaker 2: about with quarterbacks is just what's going on right now
- 26:12Speaker 2: in the building with Drake May learning josh mcdaniels's offense.
- 26:17Speaker 2: And there's been a lot of talk about the verbiage
- 26:20Speaker 2: and the verbiage change that you know, he's speaking a
- 26:22Speaker 2: different language than he did his rookie year talking about Drake.
- 26:24Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm not as worried about the verbiage thing.
- 26:28Speaker 2: It's May like. It's good. This is the time of
- 26:30Speaker 2: year to ask questions and to learn language and do
- 26:33Speaker 2: all that kind of stuff. So he's asked about at
- 26:36Speaker 2: the podium some people what's the word? Some people interpreted
- 26:41Speaker 2: his answers as he was kind of going through it
- 26:45Speaker 2: a little bit with the verbiage change, or is kind
- 26:47Speaker 2: of going through the process. I don't necessarily worry too
- 26:49Speaker 2: much about that. The one thing that I do have,
- 26:52Speaker 2: like a small sea concern worry about is they're going
- 26:56Speaker 2: back to putting everything on the quarterback pre snap Solas year,
- 27:00Speaker 2: the center took responsibility, the center made on the line
- 27:02Speaker 2: calls all those types of things of the line of scrimmage,
- 27:05Speaker 2: taking that out of the quarterback's hands. So you know
- 27:08Speaker 2: really quickly, like what that means is, you know, the
- 27:11Speaker 2: MIC is what sets the protection or sets the run
- 27:13Speaker 2: blocking scheme. That's what's pointing everybody in the direction that
- 27:17Speaker 2: the offense wants it to go in. The MIC can
- 27:19Speaker 2: change a lot of people think the MIC is just
- 27:21Speaker 2: the middle linebacker on every single play. It's not like
- 27:24Speaker 2: if you're sliding or if you're you know, running off
- 27:27Speaker 2: tackle or whatever the case may be. Like your MIC
- 27:29Speaker 2: point might be different from play to play. It will
- 27:32Speaker 2: be different from play to play. So Drake may said
- 27:35Speaker 2: that it's like like he has he's holding the pin
- 27:37Speaker 2: last right before they right before they snap the ball.
- 27:41Speaker 2: He's gonna hold it last. They like it this way,
- 27:44Speaker 2: it sounds like based off of his answers, they like
- 27:46Speaker 2: it this way because they feel like the quarterback has
- 27:49Speaker 2: the best view rack there. Right. He can see in
- 27:52Speaker 2: the shotgun and he can see blitzes. He can see
- 27:54Speaker 2: things coming off the edge that maybe the center can't
- 27:57Speaker 2: necessarily see. So I get the the advantages in that respect,
- 28:02Speaker 2: I do worry about putting that on a second year
- 28:04Speaker 2: quarterback and expecting Drake May to get to the line
- 28:08Speaker 2: of scrimmage and be Tom Brady or Peyton manning and
- 28:11Speaker 2: calling out blitzes and sniffing out pressure schemes and moving
- 28:14Speaker 2: mike points and you know, Rita Linda like all his
- 28:18Speaker 2: different types of stuff that they do to slide protections
- 28:20Speaker 2: and like all that minutia. I hope that it's not
- 28:24Speaker 2: too much, you know, they don't put too much on
- 28:26Speaker 2: his plate early. I know Josh McDaniels has talked about
- 28:29Speaker 2: in the past, you know, easing young quarterbacks into that,
- 28:32Speaker 2: easing Mac Jones into it his rookie year, even communicating
- 28:36Speaker 2: in the headset. You know, you have until I think
- 28:39Speaker 2: it's fifteen seconds right to talk to the quarterback through
- 28:41Speaker 2: the headset so that they have that ability. It's may.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I'm not like ready to freak out about it or
- 28:48Speaker 2: anything like that. Like I said, small sea concern, but
- 28:52Speaker 2: just hearing him talk about all the different things. And
- 28:55Speaker 2: we had Josh Dobbs in here yesterday and he was
- 28:57Speaker 2: talking about it. There's a lot on the quarterback. We've
- 29:00Speaker 2: heard that in the past. I mean, what are your
- 29:01Speaker 2: thoughts on them going back to putting everything on the quarterback.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I don't have a problem with it because I think
- 29:08Speaker 1: Drake's up for it. And I think and this is
- 29:09Speaker 1: something people were worried about at the time. Oh well,
- 29:11Speaker 1: you look at all Brady had to do and how
- 29:13Speaker 1: is May going to do that? Do you really think
- 29:15Speaker 1: they're going to, at least to start give him the
- 29:18Speaker 1: same volume that they gave Brady, Like it's going to
- 29:21Speaker 1: be a modified version, right, So I don't think he's
- 29:23Speaker 1: going to have it. Ideally you build it up to
- 29:25Speaker 1: that in time. But I'm not super worried about it. Yeah,
- 29:30Speaker 1: it's different. It's a change. Anytime there's a change, it's
- 29:32Speaker 1: something that you have to note and.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Pay attention to. But I don't know.
- 29:36Speaker 1: He's got a good like football IQ, he's got a
- 29:39Speaker 1: good understanding. He doesn't have to learn it as he's
- 29:42Speaker 1: coming into the league. He has that base under him
- 29:44Speaker 1: of what he learned last year. So yeah, I'm not,
- 29:49Speaker 1: like you said, lower casey concerned.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I tied to his coaches when you last year
- 29:54Speaker 2: when they drafted U May at North Carolina, and one
- 29:58Speaker 2: of the things that they said was about how he
- 30:01Speaker 2: underwent a coordinator change from his sophomore year to his
- 30:05Speaker 2: junior year. Phil Loongo was his offensive coordinator his sophomore year.
- 30:10Speaker 2: He's now at Wisconsin. Longo had that was his best
- 30:14Speaker 2: year with me, phil Loongo. Now it's worth mentioning. He
- 30:18Speaker 2: also had Josh Downs on that UNC offense and he
- 30:21Speaker 2: had a little bit more NFL talent around him at
- 30:23Speaker 2: North Carolina in twenty two versus in twenty three, so
- 30:27Speaker 2: that might have contributed as well. Downs was his go
- 30:29Speaker 2: to receiver obviously gets drafted by the Colts. Yeah, I
- 30:33Speaker 2: mean they just had a better team. They had a
- 30:35Speaker 2: better team, So there's that element of it. But there
- 30:38Speaker 2: was a scheme change. There was a philosophical change in
- 30:42Speaker 2: terms of a lot of the different things they had
- 30:44Speaker 2: him doing, and you know, running the line of scrimmage, footwork,
- 30:48Speaker 2: you know, all that kind of stuff. A lot of
- 30:50Speaker 2: people felt like that contributed to his footwork regression was
- 30:53Speaker 2: going from one style of footwork to another. So it's
- 30:57Speaker 2: something to monitor. I think even concern is even too strong.
- 31:00Speaker 2: It's just something to monitor. With all of this going
- 31:03Speaker 2: on with Drake Macas. Everybody just wants Drake May to
- 31:06Speaker 2: make the year two leap and take that next step,
- 31:08Speaker 2: and we're all hoping for that. But there's a lot
- 31:12Speaker 2: going on at the same time. You know, there's a
- 31:14Speaker 2: lot of new coaching, new verbiage, new style of play,
- 31:19Speaker 2: new personnel around him. So it's gonna be interesting to
- 31:22Speaker 2: see how all of this kind of transpires. So those
- 31:24Speaker 2: are the two things I have with quarterbacks. Be interested
- 31:28Speaker 2: to see which one of us is right about the
- 31:29Speaker 2: third quarterback. I just don't see the point of it.
- 31:32Speaker 2: But maybe maybe they end up carrying three. Maybe it's
- 31:36Speaker 2: like you said, it's somebody gets cut and it's like
- 31:38Speaker 2: a veteran and yeah, it doesn't have to be somebody
- 31:40Speaker 2: on the ross right now, yeah'll be clear. All right,
- 31:42Speaker 2: let's go to running backs. So running backs is interesting.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Ramandra Stevenson, Antonio Gibson obviously the rookie, Traveon Henderson, Terrell
- 31:50Speaker 2: Jennings still kicking around, and Lan Laris and everybody's favorite
- 31:55Speaker 2: UDFA running back who's suddenly you know, superstar. I mean, scrimmage,
- 32:02Speaker 2: that's nothing. I'm just teasing. Uh, here's the deal. To me,
- 32:08Speaker 2: there's a couple of different ways to look at running
- 32:10Speaker 2: back right now. Do they keep four? I think that's
- 32:16Speaker 2: a fair question. Teams are go back and forth with
- 32:19Speaker 2: three or four. Obviously, if you have four good running backs,
- 32:22Speaker 2: then you probably keep all four. But uh, normally I
- 32:25Speaker 2: would say three is probably standard across the league.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I think Vrabel generally in Tennessee kept three.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and it also you know, you still have the
- 32:33Speaker 2: practice squad to stash you know, Terrell Jennings or even
- 32:36Speaker 2: Larison if he doesn't get out of control, you know,
- 32:39Speaker 2: in the preseason and have a huge preseason. So do
- 32:42Speaker 2: they keep all four, you know, including probably Larison with Stevenson,
- 32:46Speaker 2: Gibson and Henderson or I think the other question is
- 32:50Speaker 2: is does Larison play well enough where maybe, like a
- 32:54Speaker 2: guy like Antonio Gibson becomes expendable. I don't think Grimandro
- 32:57Speaker 2: Stevenson is in that converse of being quote unquote expendable
- 33:02Speaker 2: at any point. I think the plan is to have
- 33:04Speaker 2: Rmandra Stevenson here with Traveon Henderson as sort of a
- 33:08Speaker 2: thunder and lightning kind of duo. But maybe Larison Scott
- 33:13Speaker 2: also has some pass catching ability, has some of that
- 33:17Speaker 2: subpackage run ability receiver out of the backfield, Like could
- 33:21Speaker 2: he have a great camp and maybe Gibson becomes like
- 33:25Speaker 2: a trade piece or something like that at the end
- 33:27Speaker 2: of training camp. That would be the only way that
- 33:29Speaker 2: I could see Gibson and Stevenson both not being here
- 33:34Speaker 2: is if somebody like Larison makes a really strong push
- 33:37Speaker 2: and they end up flipping Gibson for something, you know,
- 33:41Speaker 2: on roster cutdown day.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I wouldn't roll it out because Larison has a coverage
- 33:47Speaker 1: background in special teams, which I don't believe Gibson does.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can actually pull
- 33:52Speaker 1: that out.
- 33:53Speaker 2: He might have played a little bit lare last year,
- 33:54Speaker 2: but I wouldn't say that he's like a core special
- 33:57Speaker 2: teams guy, Like that's not so.
- 33:59Speaker 1: I think Larison's done both. He's returned and covered kicks.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Uh oh No, Gibson's only plays kick return. He hasn't
- 34:10Speaker 1: played in coverage, so I think Laris and somebody can
- 34:12Speaker 1: send down the field to like make play. I compared
- 34:14Speaker 1: him last week to Brandon bolden Right, who is a
- 34:16Speaker 1: coverage player on special teams as well as a returner.
- 34:18Speaker 1: If he's gonna give you special teams value and they
- 34:20Speaker 1: only want to keep three running backs, and he can
- 34:21Speaker 1: be a early down and passing down guy and can
- 34:23Speaker 1: fit into either of those roles. I think he absolutely
- 34:25Speaker 1: could make a push. And if he does, yeah, it's
- 34:27Speaker 1: Gibson's the guy who's expendable more so than Stevenson. So
- 34:32Speaker 1: I could see it now. I think there's a possibility
- 34:34Speaker 1: they keep four as well. This is where you get
- 34:36Speaker 1: into the at large roster spots, which you know, I
- 34:39Speaker 1: love to talk about positional minimums, So that fourth running
- 34:42Speaker 1: back is probably competing with We'll get to tight ends, right, ye.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Are they going to keep three tight ends? Are they
- 34:48Speaker 1: going to keep three tight ends and a fallback? Is
- 34:50Speaker 1: the full back going to be the third tight end?
- 34:51Speaker 1: Like that might be a competition with the fourth running
- 34:55Speaker 1: back or are they going to keep five or six receivers?
- 34:57Speaker 1: That's what that fourth running back spot's.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Gonna come down to in my mind. Yeah, I'm interested
- 35:01Speaker 2: to see Larrison because the one concern that I had
- 35:04Speaker 2: about him just watching his UC Davis tape, especially against
- 35:08Speaker 2: teams like Cal. When he did play teams that were
- 35:10Speaker 2: FBS level and maybe a level up, the production was
- 35:14Speaker 2: good against Cal like It's not like he had a
- 35:16Speaker 2: bad game, but his play speed and just like his
- 35:19Speaker 2: ability to separate from packs. You know, like when running
- 35:22Speaker 2: backs they get into crowds, and does that running back
- 35:25Speaker 2: have the bursts or the energy to get out of
- 35:27Speaker 2: that crowd and really hit into the big open field
- 35:30Speaker 2: like a Trevon Henderson camp, right, And I just didn't
- 35:33Speaker 2: necessarily see that gear from him.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Well, but he's not your starting running back, right.
- 35:37Speaker 2: But my question is in terms of him making the
- 35:40Speaker 2: roster and him truly making this interesting, is he going
- 35:44Speaker 2: to have the dynamic play speed to be able to
- 35:49Speaker 2: make yards the same way did in college? Because I
- 35:52Speaker 2: think the difference between what I expected and what I
- 35:55Speaker 2: ended up seeing with Larison is I Larison to me
- 35:57Speaker 2: was actually a better tackle breaker, and he was like
- 36:01Speaker 2: a space player like he was. He's got pretty good
- 36:04Speaker 2: contact balance and ability to avoid tackles. And you know,
- 36:07Speaker 2: he broke one runoff against Calgary. He like shrugs off
- 36:10Speaker 2: like three or four guys right like that. He ran
- 36:13Speaker 2: with a lot of really good power and balance to
- 36:15Speaker 2: his game, whereas I was expecting like a scat back, right,
- 36:18Speaker 2: And that's not what he is to me, at least fifteen. Yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 2: he's definitely more of a of a not a power back,
- 36:25Speaker 2: but like somewhere in between those two things. He's got quickness.
- 36:29Speaker 2: He just doesn't have great burst or straight line speed
- 36:32Speaker 2: or top end speed. So when you get to this level,
- 36:35Speaker 2: you know, is that is he going to be running
- 36:37Speaker 2: in a lot of packs, a lot of crowds. Is
- 36:39Speaker 2: he going to be bottled up a lot? You know,
- 36:41Speaker 2: that's going to be the questions for him. Is is
- 36:43Speaker 2: he going to be able to really get out into
- 36:45Speaker 2: space and make you know, bigger plays and extend plays
- 36:49Speaker 2: with his you know, as a ball carrier, I think
- 36:52Speaker 2: there was something there with the quickness. You know, he
- 36:54Speaker 2: tested really well in the agilities. You see the jump
- 36:57Speaker 2: cut ability, you see the smoothness with his cuts. You
- 37:00Speaker 2: see that at the top of the route. You know,
- 37:02Speaker 2: you get him matched up against a linebacker as a
- 37:04Speaker 2: pass catcher, and he's got the ability to get open.
- 37:07Speaker 2: But then he's one of those guys that like gets
- 37:09Speaker 2: open at the top of the route, catches the ball
- 37:11Speaker 2: and goes down right Like he's not one of those
- 37:13Speaker 2: guys that catches the ball at the top of the
- 37:15Speaker 2: route on like an angle route or something like that
- 37:18Speaker 2: and turns like a six yard completion into like a
- 37:20Speaker 2: twenty yard game. Like that's not this is a guy
- 37:23Speaker 2: that was UDFA. Yeah. So but if he's gonna make
- 37:27Speaker 2: the roster, like that's how he's gonna make it, Like
- 37:29Speaker 2: he's not gonna make the roster as a first and
- 37:30Speaker 2: second down running back. He's gonna make the roster because
- 37:33Speaker 2: he can contribute in the pass game and because he
- 37:35Speaker 2: can run in sub package situations. Maybe because he can
- 37:38Speaker 2: play on special teams like and all those.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I think he can play on early I think he
- 37:43Speaker 1: can play on early downs or get played on early downs. So,
- 37:47Speaker 1: by the way, just comparison for speed here, Yeah, laris
- 37:51Speaker 1: And didn't run at the combine ran a four four
- 37:53Speaker 1: six forty So even if we want to round that
- 37:56Speaker 1: up pro dain number one, you're gonna four to four
- 37:57Speaker 1: six at his pro we can round it up to
- 38:01Speaker 1: a four five.
- 38:02Speaker 2: I don't think he was anywhere close to four four six.
- 38:05Speaker 2: But no, like truly, no disrespect, but like he he
- 38:10Speaker 2: looks like a four to six guy to me.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Okay even even still, so here's another one that has
- 38:15Speaker 1: him at four five seven because for five sounds, see
- 38:18Speaker 1: if I can find his RAS card that four or
- 38:21Speaker 1: five seven. I think my argument's gonna gonna stand no
- 38:23Speaker 1: matter what his The math bomb has him at a
- 38:27Speaker 1: four five seven, so we'll use that four five seven.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Which again is not the end of the world. Like
- 38:30Speaker 2: running back, forty yard dash times for running backs is
- 38:33Speaker 2: not overly important. What do you think that? What do
- 38:36Speaker 2: you think Brandon Bolden wran?
- 38:38Speaker 3: Oh?
- 38:38Speaker 1: Probably four to six, four six, six, Yeah. What do
- 38:41Speaker 1: you think rex Burke had ran?
- 38:42Speaker 2: Yeah? Not well there were four six one, four seven three. Oh.
- 38:45Speaker 2: I didn't realize it was that bad.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Yeah, So I'm not worried about the top line speed.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I think he can still be the player for that role.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Is he gonna be a big home run hit or no.
- 38:54Speaker 1: That's why the draft of Trevion Henderson. You want the
- 38:56Speaker 1: horme run here? Do you put Travon Henderson in the game?
- 38:58Speaker 1: I'm not super it's a fair critique. I just don't
- 39:01Speaker 1: think it's going to be that much of a factor
- 39:02Speaker 1: in terms of that's if they're putting him in a
- 39:04Speaker 1: role where he needs to outrun guys to succeed, that's
- 39:07Speaker 1: on the coaching staff for putting.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Him in the wrong role. That's fair I I look
- 39:12Speaker 2: at his game and I, like I said the other day,
- 39:14Speaker 2: I know he called me lazy for making the rex
- 39:16Speaker 2: burg Head comparison, but I still feel like that's accurate.
- 39:20Speaker 2: I didn't realize rex Burkhead was as big as he was.
- 39:23Speaker 2: That's why I said that. Yeah, I mean like this,
- 39:24Speaker 2: this the play style, the side, like the all the
- 39:27Speaker 2: measurements like check out to match up with rex Burkhead, uh,
- 39:31Speaker 2: you know, quicker, not fast, you know, I got all
- 39:33Speaker 2: those things.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I will still because I think he has that defensive
- 39:39Speaker 1: mentality on the offense side of the ball. I'm still
- 39:41Speaker 1: gonna put Brandon Bolden out there. But they're bold and
- 39:43Speaker 1: rex Burke Att are similar players.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Yeah, so sure enough. All right, let's go to receivers. Yeah,
- 39:48Speaker 2: this is a lengthy list, so i'll i'll, we got
- 39:51Speaker 2: twelve names here, uh, Stefan Diggs, Matt Collins, Damario Douglas,
- 39:55Speaker 2: Kyle Williams, Kendrick Bourne, Kai, Shan Boodie, Jalen Polk, jayvon Baker,
- 40:00Speaker 2: John Giles, e Ft and Chisholm, Demir Blancamozy and Blank Music,
- 40:06Speaker 2: Blank Musy and Jeremiah Webb. So that's twelve names currently
- 40:11Speaker 2: at wide receiver. As Paul Perla likes to say, don't
- 40:14Speaker 2: mistake a lot of names for having a good receiver room,
- 40:16Speaker 2: right you bl BLANKEM see, there's a lot of names there.
- 40:21Speaker 2: A couple of facilitation questions that I jotted down. The
- 40:25Speaker 2: consensus seems to be that Stefan Diggs in some capacity,
- 40:29Speaker 2: whether it's pup or on the roster. Well, this is
- 40:31Speaker 2: what makes it tough.
- 40:32Speaker 1: If we're talking about the fifty three rosters there rosters
- 40:35Speaker 1: for this first question, then we'll get to that second part.
- 40:38Speaker 1: For this first question, let's assume that Stefan Diggs is
- 40:40Speaker 1: going to start the week one on the fifty three,
- 40:43Speaker 1: on the fifty three, Stefan Diggs, MC collins, Pop Douglas,
- 40:47Speaker 1: Kyle Williams. Those feel like the four locks consensus locks
- 40:51Speaker 1: yes at this point. So my question, for the sake
- 40:55Speaker 1: of facilitation is among this group that I'm about to
- 40:59Speaker 1: name a four play, who is the safest receiver out
- 41:03Speaker 1: of these four Kendrick Bourne, Yeah, Kayshaun Boody Yeah, Jalen Polk,
- 41:07Speaker 1: Javon Baker.
- 41:08Speaker 2: So if that's the group right, like that.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Right in theory, because they're gonna keep five and then
- 41:14Speaker 1: the questions would they keep six and what happens with you?
- 41:16Speaker 4: Right?
- 41:17Speaker 5: Right?
- 41:17Speaker 1: In theory, it should be Jalen Polk just because usually
- 41:21Speaker 1: teams give a second round pick the way Rabel Wolf Cowden,
- 41:26Speaker 1: the way they've taken a hatchet to this roster. Yeah,
- 41:29Speaker 1: I don't think that that holds weight or significant weight.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Maybe a little bit, but like, I don't think they'd
- 41:34Speaker 1: be afraid to move on from a second round pick.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I don't think they would. So I'm gonna go with
- 41:39Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne with the caveat. So I think it's Kendrick
- 41:42Speaker 1: Bourne because McDaniel's had a lot of success with him
- 41:46Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one. This coaching staff seems to be
- 41:49Speaker 1: really big in a familiarity. Who are guys we know
- 41:51Speaker 1: we can work with, Who are guys we know?
- 41:52Speaker 2: What do we want? Bloah whatever, you know. I love
- 41:55Speaker 2: this stat.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Before he hit COVID in twenty twenty one, Kendrick Born
- 41:58Speaker 1: was on a thousand yard pace.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he was on a thousand yard pace
- 42:01Speaker 2: in twenty three too, with Bill O'Brien in similar offense.
- 42:04Speaker 1: So it's really un I think Kendrick Borne is a
- 42:06Speaker 1: really good player that there's been a series of unfortunate
- 42:10Speaker 1: events that they've never been able to tap into his potential.
- 42:12Speaker 2: But here's the reality of it.
- 42:13Speaker 1: As big of a fan of his as I am,
- 42:15Speaker 1: and I say this all the time, right, Kendrick Bourne,
- 42:16Speaker 1: I'll find a spot on my team for that guy
- 42:18Speaker 1: any day. He's gonna be thirty years old in August,
- 42:22Speaker 1: and he had a significant nee injury, so two years
- 42:26Speaker 1: removed from the ACL that's encouraging. If Bourne is healthy
- 42:32Speaker 1: and explosive and maybe isn't exactly the player he wasn't
- 42:35Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, but is a lot closer to that
- 42:37Speaker 1: than he was last year, and that knees continue to
- 42:39Speaker 1: heal well and he has another gear beyond where he
- 42:42Speaker 1: was at last year coming right off that rehab. I
- 42:44Speaker 1: think it's Kendrick Bourne because again, I think the familiarity
- 42:46Speaker 1: with McDaniels that's going to hold a lot of weight
- 42:51Speaker 1: if it's not. If Bourne's out there and he just
- 42:54Speaker 1: can't move, like the knees not bouncing back, right, and
- 42:56Speaker 1: it's he turned thirty, and I'm not rooting. I hope
- 43:00Speaker 1: he's the guy like I wanted to be the guy,
- 43:02Speaker 1: because I think he has the highest seeling of any
- 43:03Speaker 1: of those players. But if like physically, he can't do it,
- 43:06Speaker 1: then I think it's Kayshaun Booty because you need a
- 43:09Speaker 1: true X. It's between him and him and Javon Baker.
- 43:13Speaker 1: He's proven more. I think he has more the mental
- 43:16Speaker 1: makeup they're looking for, so that I think it would
- 43:18Speaker 1: go to kaisha On Boody. But if he's fully healthy
- 43:20Speaker 1: with that, which I acknowledge is a relatively big if,
- 43:24Speaker 1: if he's fully healthy, it should be Kendrick Borne.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I'm with you. I would say Kendrick Borne as well
- 43:28Speaker 2: for all the same reasons. Twenty twenty one really solid
- 43:31Speaker 2: year under Josh McDaniels. I think that familiarity, especially in
- 43:35Speaker 2: an offense like this that is harder to grasp for
- 43:37Speaker 2: wide receivers, it's just gonna give him a nice leg up.
- 43:40Speaker 2: It's the same offense essentially that he ran in twenty
- 43:43Speaker 2: three with Bill O'Brien to and had similar success. So
- 43:46Speaker 2: he's got proven commodity or you know, proven proof of
- 43:50Speaker 2: concept in O'Brien and in McDaniels' offense. It's very almost
- 43:57Speaker 2: like nine to nine percent similar playbooks, and he's done
- 44:00Speaker 2: good in both of them, whereas with Jalen Polk and
- 44:03Speaker 2: Javon Baker Kaisham Boudi to an extent, he's with O'Brien
- 44:07Speaker 2: in twenty three, so I guess he had a little
- 44:08Speaker 2: bit of a taste of it. Remember he played one
- 44:10Speaker 2: weekday knows it, but he was in the program ye
- 44:13Speaker 2: at that point. But for all intents and purposes, those
- 44:17Speaker 2: guys are young players that are going to be learning
- 44:19Speaker 2: a complex offense on the fly here coming up, and
- 44:22Speaker 2: Kendrick Boren is going to come in and already have
- 44:24Speaker 2: a really good feel for what they're trying to do. Now,
- 44:27Speaker 2: what hurts to other than the injury and the explosiveness
- 44:31Speaker 2: and all those types of things that you talked about,
- 44:33Speaker 2: what hurts him to me the most is redundancy. And
- 44:36Speaker 2: I understand that they've gotten into trouble in the past
- 44:39Speaker 2: by caring too much about redundancy. But we're not talking
- 44:43Speaker 2: about the draft. We're talking about putting together a roster.
- 44:45Speaker 2: And if you're putting together a wide receiver room, the
- 44:49Speaker 2: ideal wide receiver room to me is like a basketball lineup,
- 44:52Speaker 2: Like you have a one through five. You have a
- 44:53Speaker 2: point guard all the way up to the center right
- 44:55Speaker 2: so you have big guys and small guys, you have
- 44:58Speaker 2: different types of skill sets. Kendrick Bourne to me, is
- 45:02Speaker 2: like Stefan Diggs is sort of gonna be in a
- 45:05Speaker 2: similar mold. Ahead of him on the depth chart. You're
- 45:08Speaker 2: gonna want to play Kyle Williams, so he's the other
- 45:11Speaker 2: similar skill set. Jalen Polk and Kendrick Bourne both have
- 45:14Speaker 2: similar skill sets. And Jalen Polk as the younger player,
- 45:18Speaker 2: year two, first second round pick, rookie contract, like all
- 45:21Speaker 2: those different things, right, So if you look at redundancy,
- 45:26Speaker 2: you know there's three or four guys on this roster
- 45:28Speaker 2: that all plays similarly to Kendrick Bourne. And Kendrick Bourne
- 45:31Speaker 2: is the oldest, and he has the most injury history,
- 45:34Speaker 2: and he's the most expensive besides Diggs. So when you
- 45:37Speaker 2: add all that up, like it might not be great
- 45:41Speaker 2: for Kendrick Bourne, but if he plays well enough, I
- 45:43Speaker 2: think that ultimately they will just take the most talented
- 45:46Speaker 2: five guys.
- 45:47Speaker 1: They have to keep talent at that position. And I
- 45:50Speaker 1: think I'm with you on the redundancy thing, but with
- 45:52Speaker 1: these guys specifically, it's versatility. They can all line up
- 45:55Speaker 1: at all three spots, so it's not. It'd be one
- 45:57Speaker 1: thing if you had like three true X receive and
- 46:00Speaker 1: that's what they do and that's what they play.
- 46:01Speaker 2: But like.
- 46:03Speaker 1: They can all play all three spots, so you can
- 46:05Speaker 1: have all of them on the field at the same time.
- 46:07Speaker 1: I don't think it's quite as redundant.
- 46:08Speaker 2: I just wonder you know you mentioned with Booty. Booty
- 46:11Speaker 2: is a guy that can truly play on the outside. Yeah,
- 46:14Speaker 2: he might not be the most productive X receiver in
- 46:16Speaker 2: the league, but he can truly play on the outside
- 46:18Speaker 2: at a high volume like he did last year. I
- 46:20Speaker 2: don't know if Diggs, Williams or Bourne and certainly not
- 46:26Speaker 2: Pop or any of those guys are truly going to
- 46:28Speaker 2: be playing five hundred snaps at the X like Khan
- 46:32Speaker 2: Boody could. So that means that if you put that
- 46:35Speaker 2: group together, somebody's playing on the outside that's probably best
- 46:39Speaker 2: used in a different role, you know, whether that's Digs
- 46:41Speaker 2: or it's Kyle Williams, one of those guys is going
- 46:44Speaker 2: to have to play on the outside, or it's mc
- 46:47Speaker 2: collins that's playing a high volume on the outside. Just
- 46:50Speaker 2: as like I like to say, the sacrificial X role, right,
- 46:53Speaker 2: like just just to be out there, so maybe that
- 46:56Speaker 2: they're comfortable with that booty I find fascinating in this
- 47:01Speaker 2: room because he probably has the most trade value out
- 47:05Speaker 2: of any of these guys. I would say, younger player,
- 47:09Speaker 2: rookie contract cost controlled, had a nice year last year,
- 47:13Speaker 2: you know, almost six hundred yards right last year kind
- 47:16Speaker 2: of a Usually when you see receivers start to break
- 47:20Speaker 2: out like that five point fifty mark is like the
- 47:23Speaker 2: the the line of demarcation right. Once they get over that,
- 47:28Speaker 2: you kind of feel like that receiver is starting to
- 47:30Speaker 2: come on a little bit and might have even more
- 47:33Speaker 2: in the tank, so to speak. So Kaishan Boody, it's
- 47:38Speaker 2: good and bad right in terms of him here. On
- 47:41Speaker 2: the one hand, you could look at Kaishan Boody and say,
- 47:43Speaker 2: this is a third year receiver with upside with promise
- 47:46Speaker 2: that we like. Or you could sit there and say,
- 47:51Speaker 2: if he's the odd man out, we probably could get
- 47:54Speaker 2: the most for him in a trade. And you know
- 47:57Speaker 2: which way do you fall on that with Kaishan Boody.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Would you rather try to continue to develop him or
- 48:02Speaker 2: would you shop him?
- 48:04Speaker 1: I mean it depends what they think is upside is
- 48:06Speaker 1: if they think he can be like a fringe thousand
- 48:08Speaker 1: yard receivert like you know, eight nine hundred yard guy,
- 48:11Speaker 1: and that's probably what he's gonna cap out at. I'd
- 48:13Speaker 1: probably trade him. Yeah, if you think he can be
- 48:15Speaker 1: like a twelve hundred yard receiver, like a true number one,
- 48:17Speaker 1: obviously you keep him.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Yeah, last one on the receiver. So I know it's
- 48:21Speaker 2: a topic of interest obviously. Yeah. Uh, Jalen Polkin, Javon Baker,
- 48:26Speaker 2: I don't know how secure they are. Like you said,
- 48:31Speaker 2: it's a new regime, it's a new coach and there's
- 48:33Speaker 2: a new sheriff in town. You know, as much as
- 48:36Speaker 2: the sunk costs of two was Javon Baker's like one
- 48:39Speaker 2: oh five right in the fourth round in his dream
- 48:42Speaker 2: one sixteen? Wasn't he taken after Laydon Robinson? You could
- 48:45Speaker 2: be right about that, Yeah, job one ten, So two
- 48:50Speaker 2: guys that were drafted high. Lane Romson was one of three. Yeah,
- 48:54Speaker 2: one one at thirty seven and one at one ten.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Does that's investment in both those guys, But it wasn't
- 49:01Speaker 2: like Rabel or Ryan Cowden's investment, right, it was somebody
- 49:04Speaker 2: else's investment. I just wonder, you know what they think
- 49:08Speaker 2: about those guys now, you know, Baker is a program
- 49:12Speaker 2: type of guy that you wonder if he's going to
- 49:14Speaker 2: be on the program, right, you got to get him
- 49:16Speaker 2: on the tracks. Jalen Polk, I think it's more, uh
- 49:19Speaker 2: that Kyle Williams and Stefan Diggs are just kind of
- 49:22Speaker 2: more explosive versions of Jalen Polk and they have maybe
- 49:25Speaker 2: another gear, more dynamic play speed than what Jalen Polk
- 49:29Speaker 2: even coming out. If you thought that that Jalen Polk
- 49:32Speaker 2: was going to hit, I still think you watch Kyle
- 49:34Speaker 2: Williams play and you see a guy that has an
- 49:37Speaker 2: extra gear than what Jalen Polk is going to bring
- 49:39Speaker 2: to the table. So I'm interested to see what happens
- 49:42Speaker 2: with those guys. Fton Chisholm is the one other guy
- 49:44Speaker 2: I wanted to mention. He's a McDaniel slot right right
- 49:48Speaker 2: to be in the conversation. You can call me lazy
- 49:50Speaker 2: for that one too if you want, but you know
- 49:52Speaker 2: he's fair. He's a McDaniel slot. And we've talked in
- 49:56Speaker 2: the past about Tomario Douglas being probably we best used
- 50:01Speaker 2: is like in the more like the am Mondola to
- 50:03Speaker 2: an Edelman than an Edelman to an Ammondola. You know,
- 50:05Speaker 2: guy that's more of like a three receiver package eleven
- 50:09Speaker 2: personnel package player in the slot, not a high more
- 50:12Speaker 2: vertically Yeah, not a high volume guy like that sort
- 50:15Speaker 2: of thing. Fton Chisholm is one of those first and
- 50:19Speaker 2: second level jitterbugs, like that's what he does. I don't
- 50:22Speaker 2: know if he'll make the roster. He might be a
- 50:24Speaker 2: UDFAU practice squad stash for a year and then maybe
- 50:28Speaker 2: move up, you know, try to see if he can
- 50:30Speaker 2: make a push as we go along here. But I'm
- 50:33Speaker 2: not ruling out Efton Chisholm, like I'm not ruling out
- 50:36Speaker 2: Land Lar. Yeah. I'm not ruling out either.
- 50:38Speaker 1: And the thing with Laris and I meant to bring up,
- 50:40Speaker 1: is he got a pretty significant signing bonus.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yeah, for u DFA that's usually a TEL.
- 50:45Speaker 1: I don't know if we have the number on the
- 50:47Speaker 1: exact number on Chishm, but I thought I saw something
- 50:49Speaker 1: somewhere that he got a decent chunk of change too.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's wide receiver. I know we're gonna unpack
- 50:56Speaker 2: that seventeen more times between now and September. Oh yes,
- 50:59Speaker 2: be fun. And so next position here tight end slash
- 51:02Speaker 2: full back. I put them both together, Hunter Henry Austin Hooper,
- 51:07Speaker 2: Jaheem Bell, Jack Westover still on the ninety He's still here. CJ.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Dupree my guy from Alabama, Brock Lampy the full back
- 51:16Speaker 2: from Northern Illinois, true full back. And G. Scott Junior,
- 51:19Speaker 2: another undrafted rookie who the Patriots are reportedly adding. So
- 51:23Speaker 2: seven names, you know, pretty good amount of tight ends
- 51:27Speaker 2: on a roster usually only carried two or three.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Well, we know Mike rabel As said at the owners meetings,
- 51:31Speaker 1: Can we build a whole thing out of tight end?
- 51:33Speaker 2: Yeah? I'm sure he would love that. So I think
- 51:35Speaker 2: the biggest question that I have at tight end is
- 51:39Speaker 2: breaking this down of Jaheem Bell versus Dupree and Lampy,
- 51:47Speaker 2: and more so specifically to Bell, like is Bell's future
- 51:52Speaker 2: as a full back? Like can they convert Jaheim Bell
- 51:55Speaker 2: into or at least more like a you know, a
- 51:58Speaker 2: guy that's a Swiss army knife that can maybe do
- 52:00Speaker 2: a little bit of everything. But would Jaheim Bell have
- 52:03Speaker 2: to be catered more towards a full back role to
- 52:07Speaker 2: push this roster? You know, Depree's more of like the
- 52:10Speaker 2: prototypical why prototypical inline tight end option if they want
- 52:14Speaker 2: to go that way. Bell's not that Bell's not going
- 52:16Speaker 2: to put his hand in the dirt and be a
- 52:18Speaker 2: sixth offensive lineman like I think Deprie is more like that,
- 52:21Speaker 2: and then Lampi is a true fullback, so he's got
- 52:23Speaker 2: the experience, and then Bell's like kind of in the
- 52:25Speaker 2: middle of those two guys. So what I'm interested with,
- 52:28Speaker 2: you know, the third tight end spot they do keep
- 52:29Speaker 2: three is what what what's their flavor?
- 52:33Speaker 6: Right?
- 52:33Speaker 2: Like, what kind of guy are they going to go
- 52:35Speaker 2: for here? It should be interesting. What are your thoughts
- 52:37Speaker 2: on Jaem Bell And do you think that he's going
- 52:39Speaker 2: to transition to full back? Do you think that they
- 52:41Speaker 2: have another role in mind for him? Where does he
- 52:44Speaker 2: stand right now? Yeah?
- 52:46Speaker 1: I think like you said it all, it all kind
- 52:48Speaker 1: of comes down to fit, right. If they want that
- 52:51Speaker 1: more h back move role, then maybe it's Jehem Bell,
- 52:54Speaker 1: but he's gonna have to improve as a blocker. But
- 52:56Speaker 1: if it's going to be the traditional Josh McDaniels thing,
- 52:58Speaker 1: like we talked about the fton Jis Brock, Lampy's the
- 53:01Speaker 1: traditional Josh McDaniels.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Fallback six' one two, sixty built like a brick.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Wall he's, like if the plan is for the fullback
- 53:11Speaker 1: more often than not to go into THE a gap
- 53:13Speaker 1: and meet a linebacker who's gonna fare better in that,
- 53:16Speaker 1: collision Brock lampy Or Dagen, bell that's just not Really
- 53:19Speaker 1: Jaheen bell's play. Style he's more like A kyle used
- 53:22Speaker 1: check kind of. Guy Brock lampy's your your outright lead.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Blockers so if that's what they're looking for the traditional
- 53:28Speaker 1: McDaniel's fall, back It's. Lampy if they want the More
- 53:30Speaker 1: kyle used check move, guy THEN i Think bell is a.
- 53:33Speaker 1: Shot AND i also think maybe G scott has a
- 53:35Speaker 1: chance at. That the guy was a four star wide
- 53:37Speaker 1: receiver recruit coming out of high school and then move
- 53:40Speaker 1: to tight end after his first. Year puts some weight
- 53:42Speaker 1: on move tight end after his first year at Highest
- 53:44Speaker 1: see he's really an untapped, Player like he didn't get
- 53:49Speaker 1: a ton of run At Ohio state and he's playing
- 53:51Speaker 1: a new position all.
- 53:52Speaker 2: That so we'll see what they do with.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Him but If josh McDaniels wants the Next James devlin
- 53:57Speaker 1: wants the Next Yakub, johnson is Brock.
- 54:01Speaker 2: Lampy, Yeah. Uh the one QUESTION i had With Jaim,
- 54:03Speaker 2: bell you, know moving more to the full back role
- 54:06Speaker 2: is like he's kind of high. Cut like he's a
- 54:08Speaker 2: taller guy and he's kind of high. Cut when you
- 54:10Speaker 2: think of full, backs you want guys that can really
- 54:12Speaker 2: get leverage and like get underneath players and have play
- 54:14Speaker 2: with good pad level and uh you you typically want
- 54:18Speaker 2: them built more uh you, know, stouter more compact Like
- 54:21Speaker 2: Brock lampy's built, right like you know six, one two.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Sixty you don't want six, three two fifty or two
- 54:26Speaker 2: forty five Like Jaimee. Bell you want a guy that is,
- 54:29Speaker 2: uh you, know lower to the ground to get that
- 54:32Speaker 2: leverage and get that pad level. Advantage so if he's
- 54:35Speaker 2: gonna play full, back like does he have the flexibility
- 54:39Speaker 2: in his lower body and that you, know to to
- 54:41Speaker 2: sink and get underneath guys and really square guys up
- 54:45Speaker 2: and things like. THAT i don't, know like you, said
- 54:47Speaker 2: if that's necessarily his. Game, NOW i know there's a
- 54:50Speaker 2: lot of people that would probably love a full back
- 54:52Speaker 2: that's more of a passing, thread you, know that's Not.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Lampy Like, lampy if you release him out of the
- 54:57Speaker 2: backside and he's like the check down option on the
- 55:00Speaker 2: left side of the field or the right side of the. Field, like,
- 55:02Speaker 2: yeah he'll catch the ball and like he'll rumble for
- 55:04Speaker 2: a few extra yards and go. Down Like i'm not
- 55:07Speaker 2: saying he's a complete zero in terms of, That like
- 55:09Speaker 2: he has enough hands to like just catch checkdowns and
- 55:13Speaker 2: things like. That but with Jaheem bell in, theory and
- 55:16Speaker 2: again this is more in. Theory he's never actually done,
- 55:19Speaker 2: it we've never seen. It but in, theory you might
- 55:21Speaker 2: be able to have him run some more dynamic routes
- 55:23Speaker 2: like you Mentioned kyle used check, right someone that could
- 55:26Speaker 2: could potentially run a, wheel you, know down the sideline
- 55:29Speaker 2: out of the backfield or something like. That so would
- 55:32Speaker 2: it be worth it to make that transition to a more,
- 55:35Speaker 2: dynamic a more athletic full back like A Jaheen bell
- 55:38Speaker 2: that might not be the battering ram That lampy, is
- 55:41Speaker 2: but might be someone that can add a little bit
- 55:43Speaker 2: more in the passing.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Game, well this is where SO I vrabel's gonna put
- 55:46Speaker 1: his fingerprints on, this, RIGHT i think back to what
- 55:47Speaker 1: he had In. Tennessee he And Jaheen. Bell, yeah But
- 55:49Speaker 1: Jeeene bell is a tight. End, yeah they used them
- 55:52Speaker 1: like AN h back With Jahem bell is a tight?
- 55:53Speaker 2: End you Mean John? Smith Johnny? Smith, yes thank, You Johnny.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Smith so.
- 55:59Speaker 6: Is it.
- 56:00Speaker 1: There's another way we could frame this, conversation BECAUSE i
- 56:03Speaker 1: think they had a true fall back to at least early.
- 56:05Speaker 1: On they may not have the whole, time BUT i
- 56:06Speaker 1: think they did early. On is It Jahem bell Versus
- 56:09Speaker 1: Brock lampy or is It Jeheen bell versus. C. J?
- 56:12Speaker 2: Duprie?
- 56:13Speaker 1: Yeah and is it we think they want that third
- 56:16Speaker 1: blocking tight end and got some, athleticism might have some
- 56:18Speaker 1: receiving upside Or, okay we have our two traditional inline tight.
- 56:22Speaker 1: Ends they're gonna, Block they'll be. Fine Jahem bell is
- 56:24Speaker 1: gonna be our move tight, end our h back Or
- 56:27Speaker 1: john New. Smith but then we'll also still Have Brock
- 56:30Speaker 1: lampy when we want.
- 56:31Speaker 2: To GO i and just run. Down so that'd be
- 56:34Speaker 2: four guys at that. SPOT i, mean it's Obviously lampy
- 56:36Speaker 2: is a full, back but it's all kind of. One
- 56:38Speaker 2: this is what we talked. About how many running backs
- 56:40Speaker 2: do you?
- 56:40Speaker 7: Keep?
- 56:40Speaker 2: It, yeah so maybe you keep three running backs and
- 56:42Speaker 2: you can keep if you.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Decide all, right you, know we're good with you, know
- 56:45Speaker 1: we're gonna Keep Land, Larison we're gonna Cut Antonio gibson
- 56:47Speaker 1: orf they're gonna move on From. Larison and it's only
- 56:50Speaker 1: a three running back. Room that's how you get away from.
- 56:52Speaker 2: That MAYBE i just can't imagine A josh McDaniel's offense
- 56:57Speaker 2: without a full. Back it's just so ingrained in. Him
- 57:00Speaker 2: like regular, personnel you, know twenty one they call it.
- 57:04Speaker 2: Regular like when you call something, regular, yeah that it
- 57:08Speaker 2: means that that's like a base foundation element to your. Offense, right, so,
- 57:12Speaker 2: uh twenty one, personnel two, back full, back running back
- 57:15Speaker 2: in the, Backfield like that's that's what McDaniels go. To
- 57:18Speaker 2: AND i feel Like whenevers hits the fan for The
- 57:22Speaker 2: patriots offense with, McDaniel's whether it was nineteen twenty twenty, one,
- 57:27Speaker 2: eight you, know really, eighteen nineteen twenty twenty, one what
- 57:30Speaker 2: do they go? To they put, Them they put the
- 57:32Speaker 2: quarterback under, center they put the two backs behind, him
- 57:36Speaker 2: and they're running, downhill right like That that's what you
- 57:38Speaker 2: go to when you want to close out a game
- 57:41Speaker 2: when you're not moving the ball through the air and you're, Struggling,
- 57:44Speaker 2: like what we're gonna go to our, regular we're gonna
- 57:47Speaker 2: go to our base, stuff our day one, install and
- 57:50Speaker 2: we're gonna run lead iso right at, you and we're
- 57:52Speaker 2: gonna we're gonna try to move the ball by running it.
- 57:54Speaker 2: Downhill until McDaniels doesn't do that and doesn't have that
- 57:58Speaker 2: in his in his back of, Trade i'm not going
- 58:01Speaker 2: to believe that he he'll roster a team without a full.
- 58:02Speaker 2: Back but, again are you doing that stuff With Jahem? Bell?
- 58:05Speaker 2: Right you could, be you could be either, way but
- 58:09Speaker 2: he's that guy or in, Theory and as we move
- 58:12Speaker 2: on to the offensive, line like you could do it
- 58:14Speaker 2: with a sixth offensive. Lineman now that's really a, tell,
- 58:17Speaker 2: like now you're really telling the defense that you're going
- 58:20Speaker 2: to probably be eighty five eighty twenty maybe run pass,
- 58:25Speaker 2: right like you're really telling the defense at that point
- 58:28Speaker 2: that you're running the. Football BUT i broke up tackles
- 58:31Speaker 2: and interior offensive lineman for the sake of the. Exercise
- 58:35Speaker 2: so let's start with, Tackles Will, Campbell, Morgan moses of,
- 58:38Speaker 2: course But Darian, Lowe Caden, Wallace Dematri, jacobs And Marcus
- 58:42Speaker 2: bryant The patriots seventh round. Pick So Will, Campbell Morgan
- 58:45Speaker 2: moses is your. Starters they're obviously going to be here left,
- 58:47Speaker 2: tackle right. Tackle the fascinating CONVERSATION i, had you, know
- 58:52Speaker 2: or have with these the next couple of spots. Here,
- 58:54Speaker 2: yeah a couple of. Questions Darian. Lowe we talked about
- 58:59Speaker 2: this a little bit last, WEEK i, think and we've
- 59:01Speaker 2: talked about a little bit in the. Past vadarian low
- 59:03Speaker 2: is a one position. Backup Vatarian lowe is a left tackle.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Backup he is not very good at right. Tackle he's
- 59:09Speaker 2: not a. Guard you, know he's not going to play.
- 59:11Speaker 2: Inside if you're on AN nfl team as a, backup
- 59:14Speaker 2: it's it's kind of hard to make a roster as
- 59:16Speaker 2: a one position Multipositional and the same can be said For. Dematra,
- 59:19Speaker 2: yeah AND i would say really on the offensive line in,
- 59:22Speaker 2: general like that's in. PARTICULAR i, mean it's really hard
- 59:25Speaker 2: to make the team as a, seventh d eighth offensive
- 59:29Speaker 2: lineman if you have no position flex like you were
- 59:31Speaker 2: just locked into left. Tackle, now my other question.
- 59:35Speaker 1: Said he'd like that's something they're gonna value from backup
- 59:38Speaker 1: Offensive i'm in a particular ability to play right so
- 59:41Speaker 1: Is Vaderian.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Lowe what's his? Status what you know what's his future
- 59:44Speaker 2: as a one position. Backup AND i still have not
- 59:48Speaker 2: totally given up On Cayden. Wallace, yeah we haven't seen
- 59:51Speaker 2: him mainly is the reason he didn't play basically at
- 59:54Speaker 2: all his rookie. Years So i'm, like you know some
- 59:56Speaker 2: of the other rookies that we did see play last
- 59:58Speaker 2: year where you might be a little bit lukewarm on
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: them at this, Point Kden wallace is kind of like
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: this unknown character and all of. This, now my expectation
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: or my hope With Kayden wallace is that they are
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: training him to play right tackle Once Morgan moses decides
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: to hang it, up or at least that's the. Idea
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: right that he's in the developmental.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Plant see what you have a, Year see what you
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: get if You if you think that he can be that,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: guy you keep.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Developing if, not you didn't do.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: It with live bullets, flying and, right you draft somebody next.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Year so k Kidden wallace as the right tackle and
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: waiting if you want to call it. THAT i think
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: there is some ability for him to maybe potentially play
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: a little bit of guard if you wanted to do.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: That so the question more is is, like do you
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Keep Kayden wallace on the track of just you're gonna
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: play right tackle and we're, gonna you, know earmark you
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: as the right tackle of the future To Morgan, moses
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: or do you move him around and try to find
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: places for him to, play whether it's left, guard whether
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: it's swim. Tackle you, know being able to go both
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: ways at, tackle you know which way do you go
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: With Kaden?
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Wallace SO i think you keep him as a developmental
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: right tackle. Prospect that doesn't mean he can't maybe give
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: you some right guard snaps if you. Need certainly would
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: be to your. Point if that's the, group he's gonna
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: be your sixth offensive, lineman and we saw him do
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: that last, year be that jumbo tight. Ends so, YEAH
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: i figure that would be his. Role to me With Vederian,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: lowe it comes back To Marcus. Bryant, yeah Because Marcus
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: bryant is a true swing. Tackle is he a good?
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: One is he AN nfl caliber? One that's what we're
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: gonna have to figure out In july And.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: August but LIKE I i think people get a.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Little too On Vederian lowe's, case like he's not a
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: starting caliber. Player he's not in they shouldn't have created
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: a situation where he was starting last. Year BUT i
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: think he's like AN nfl caliber. Backup we saw that last,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: year like there were spots where he.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Could hold his.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Own it wasn't consistent enough to be a. Starter but
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: he can only play that left. Side like you, said
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: If Marcus bryant can play the left, side it closed
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: two or at or better the same level as very
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: low and then play on the right side at a similar. Level,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: well if you have two guys who are similar caliber
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: left tackles but one can also play right, tackle that's
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: a no brainer who you're. Keeping so to, me IT'S
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: i Think, Campbell, moses And wallace are on the. Team
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: It's Vederian, Lowe Marcus, bryant and if you want to
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Throw Demontre jacobs in, there you can for the last.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: SPOT i do think they'll carry four. Tackles i'm pretty
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: much with. YOU i think what's.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Interesting but then the, idea, sorry but then the idea would,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: be If bryant proves he can be a true Swing
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Morgan moses moves. On Will campbell's you're starting, Left Cane
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: wallace you're starting. Right Marcus bryant's you're back up at
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: both spots and you're keeping, three, right you're keeping three.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Tackles long, term you just need to keep an extra
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: guy this year while you Develop.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: WALLACE i find it, LIKE i think there's a real
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: possibility and hopefully this Will campbell's healthy his entirerogy. Year
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: we don't have to find. Out BUT i think there's
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: a real possibility that a guy Like Marcus, bryant like you,
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: said could be a swing, tackle BECAUSE i think he
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: did a little bit more of that At missouri and
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: there's some more of that in his, game all. RIGHT
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: i think he was AT smu first and Then. Missouri.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: Uh but With marcus Bryan, like isn't there a world
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: where if they needed somebody to go in at all
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: left tackle that he probably gets to call Over Kadon,
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Wallace And Kaden wallace is like just focused on playing
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: the right left.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Tackle oh, yeah, NO I i don't Want Kane wallace
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: to be the backup left.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Tackle, Yeah so you want him to be in a
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: developmental pipeline for right tackle and then and he can
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: play jumbo title, yeah right, right and then duke it
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: out for the swing tackle between Low jacobs And.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Brian, Well i'm kind of, well it would. BE i
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: don't know If brian is the swing, tackle and if,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: not it's Just low And. Jacobs and you're committing the
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: carrot because in this, case you're moving on From Marcus, bryant,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Right you're now committing to carrying four tackles and you're
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: gonna have to find it Another.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: And then was backing Up campbell And wallace is backing Up.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: Moses that that could definitely be where it goes as.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: Well SO i THINK i Think brian, died no, doubt
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: he just got. Drafted the other two guys have been
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: in the.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: League, brian it Has and WHEN i say, THIS i
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: mean as a, Backup bryant has much more upside Than
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: jacob's are, well, YEAH i, Agree, WELL i mean in
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: terms of, UPSIDE i, agree, yeah just the ability to
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: play both.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Sides, YEAH i think the ability to swing. Times BECAUSE
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: i agree with you Is Vaderian. Low LIKE i don't
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: Think Vanderian low's. AWFUL i Think Vaderian low's inconsistent and
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: because of, that he's not a, starter, right because he
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: has these mental apses where he's you, know not lining
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: up correctly or jumping off side or just not locked
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: in every, snap and that's why he's not a. Starter
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: but there are starting level reps On Vaderian lowe's. Tape
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: it's just you can't just ignore the bad, stuff, right
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: and that's why you know it was such a. Need
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: But Vaderian low's AN nfl player in terms, of you,
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: know being a backup left. Tackle he's just only a
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: backup left, tackle which makes things complicated for. Him let's
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: move to interior offensive. Line there's a lot of names
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: here as, well some interesting, battles certainly a left, guard
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: BUT i also think the is a battle at. CENTER
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: I i don't think that that's a shoe in For
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: Garrett bradberry saying that's his free Agency Mike Leyden, Robinson Garrett,
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Bradberry Jared, Wilson Cole Strange city So Ben, Brown Tyres,
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: Robinson West, Sweitzer Jack, Conley. Colbert, oh so that is
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: eleven names at an interior offensive. Line they are. Obvious,
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: yes they're obviously not going to keep eleven interior offensive too.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: Many they probably are going to keep four or. Five
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: four is probably more. Likely the two questions THAT i
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: THAT i have here are you, know obviously left. Guard
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: that's one of the biggest camp BATTLES i think across the,
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: board but really open the guy that uh that that's
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: the true wild card here to me Is Jared, wilson
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: because straight, up there's a world Where Jared wilson beats
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Out bradberry for the starting center. JOB i think that
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: is a real real case for that you're talking about in?
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Camp, yeah BECAUSE i think week, one, RIGHT i think
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: what this is all about Is Jared wilson's going to
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: start at center at some point this year for The.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Patriots it's just a matter of how Long Garrett bradbury
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: can hold him. Off, yeah or at least by twenty six,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: CERTAINLY i think even maybe late this.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: Year so, YEAH i think it's. DEAD i think it's
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: a definitely possibility to the year.
- 1:06:17Speaker 8: Start.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Well but here's the, thing Is Garrett bradbury one of these,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: guys because this goes to the, numbers Is Garrett bradbury
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: one of these guys that is a veteran six year
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: starter in the. League is he here no matter what
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: or is it start or he's not on the.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Team it's a good question and the, Contract i'm sure you,
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: know the numbers come out and it's all inflated and
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: stuff like. That they can get out of. It they
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: can probably get out of the. Contract it's that's the
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: question THAT i, Have like Is Garrett bradbury truly? Safe
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: because If Jared wilson comes into, camp AND i know
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: it's people that are on his side or in his
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: camp THAT i talk, to But i've talked to some
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: people for the future That i'm writing about him on the,
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: website and, like the guy is just supremely. Talented like
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: the words that you're hearing about him are like special
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: in terms of his fish. Traits you, know he falls
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: in the draft of the third round because he's a
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: one year starter and he plays center, right so it's
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: not a position of, value and he only played one
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: year At. Georgia but everybody you here talk to him
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: is comparing him to some pretty high, comps, right like
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: not quite Like Jason, kelcey but like the cop THAT
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: i got From Duke, manny whether was Like eric McCoy
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: And New orleans who's been with The danes last week
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: had a good? One do you? REMEMBER i remember he had,
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: one AND i don't remember who he said find? It so,
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: regardless like that there's the word uniquely, talented special in
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: terms of his, traits the. Athleticism the real question With
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Jared wilson is, like can He Rodney, Hudson Rodney hudson great?
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Player like the real question With Jared wilson is mentally
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: can he catch on quick enough to be A week one?
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: Starter AND i know we disagree a little bit on,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: this and that's WHY i wanted to bring it. UP
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: i believe that it's there's a world Where Jared wilson's
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: playing left guard as a rookie because if he plays left,
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: guard there's no not, no but there's very there's less
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: mental tax on him than playing. Center, yeah but he's
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: still one of their best five.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Blockers but then how is he gonna learn that that
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: mental stuff that he needs to learn to play?
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Center, well couldn't he learn all that? Stuff?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Still LIKE i don't know what's holding him, back you,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: know just being ready to. PLAY i think at a
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: certain point you have to do it to learn. It
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: that position it's.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: DIFFERENT i just wonder if there's a world AND i don't,
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: WONDER i think there could be a world Where campbell
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: and is left to Right, Campbell Jared, Wilson Garrett bradby
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: When Morgan moses is your five best offensive.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: Lineman but don't don't you think that If wilson is
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: good enough to play left guard or ready enough to
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: play left, guard start, there he's ready enough to start at.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Center how big is the difference Between Garrett bradbury And
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: city sew Or Lane.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Robinson that's a fair, question But i'm more thinking about
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: it in terms of you have a second year quarterback back.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: There Garrett bradbury started like eighty games in THE. Nfl
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: he's an EXPERIENCED nfl starter at the. Position you, know
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: how much of a help Is Garrett bradberry going to
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: be from a communications standpoint With Drake May and is
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: that enough to just for this year Have Garrett bradberry
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: here While Jared.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Wilson does that offset having a rookie left, side which
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: you're gonna have a full rookie left. Side you would
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: also think the first thing you hear about With wilson
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: is his FOOTBALL. IQ i don't think it's a wrong
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: taking a, bubble BUT i think For Jared wilson, specifically
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: a major reason he went as high as he did
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: was his.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Intelligence, YEAH i mean he's a great he's a really great. Talent,
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: yeah we'll see if he puts it all. TOGETHER i
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: mean that's a question with any of these, rookies but
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: he's a really great. TALENT i JUST i wonder if
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: there's a scenario where it's Like Jared wilson as a
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: blocker is just so dynamic that he's too good to
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: keep him off the. Field but we just don't feel
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: great about our, battery to use a baseball, Term, yeah
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: being a rookie and a second year guy and at quarterback,
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: right like that's it's just a lot of youth at
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: two highly, complex communicative type of, positions whereas at left,
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: guard like he's just blocking the people in front of. Him,
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: right we've also.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Seen McDaniels wasn't there one Year it probably would have
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: been the Year andrews was sick That joney.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Did all that from the left. Guard, Well Teddy carris
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: was the center of the year That andrews was. Sick
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: SO i can't imagine That Ted carriss didn't have a
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: hand in. IT i, Know but why DO i rememberbe
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: it was Like Ted harris got hurt for like a.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: GAME i remember there being a year or at least
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: a portion of a year Where Joe tooney was making
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: all the line calls from left. Guard it's, Possible and
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: so couldn't you do that With mike ol AND?
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Winu you? Could you? COULD i don't know if on
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: when who was really that kind of, guy you, know
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: in terms of like the really studying it and knowing
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: the x's and o's like, that that's what it. All
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: it goes into as. Well it's like it's not just
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: oh he's like he's a loud. Guy he's a good
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: communicator on the. Field it's also like the study habits
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: that you have to go into the game and you
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: have to understand all their, fronts and you have to
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: understand all their pressure packages on third down and where
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: they like to bring blitzes from and what their tels,
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: are and like all the study and film work that
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: goes in to being ready to call out line calls
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: in AN nfl, Game like you have to have somebody
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: that's prepared to do that and is ready to do.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: That Garrett bradberry's been doing it for six seven, years,
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: Right like he's definitely ready to do. IT i just
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: don't know if other people are and maybe they will
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: be you, know Maybe Jared wilson will be ready for.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: It we'll. See BUT i, MEAN i think you drafted
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: for his. INTELLIGENCE i think they draft because of his athleticism.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Too his athleticism is, skyhigh you, know his upside and
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: his traits are. Immense, yeah it.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Was in twenty nineteen at some, point Like i'm finding
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: like sort of tweets about. IT i can't find the full,
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: article But i'm pretty sure it's point in twenty Nineteen
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Joe tooty was making line calls for The patriots as
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: the left.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: GUARD i believe. It so the other conversation here is
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: obviously just let's Take wilson out of. It just the
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: competition at left guard is really feels like it's Between,
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Robinson strange And city so. Who i'm not ruling out
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: winning the job, either because of his success in his
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: twenty three yeah with With bill.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: O'Brien, so but here's the. Thing let's Say wilson makes
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: the team And bradbury is. Cut, yeah who wins The
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: who wins the battle for backup? Center Ben Browner Cole?
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: STRANGE i, was, so here's the thing About strange THAT
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: i think helps, him, right AND i know that there
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: was some photos From OTA's where it looked Like strange was,
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: snapping you, know so like he's definitely getting some reps
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: at least dead. Center, yeah that helps him, Right like
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: he could play left guard or he could played. Center
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: the one THING i remember WHEN i talked To Jim,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: nagy who's now At, oklahoma but he was the director
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: of The Senior, bowl the one thing he mentioned With
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Leyden robinson when they drafted him last year is similar
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: to what we were talking about With Darien. Lowe Like
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Landon robinson's a, guard like he's a one position player
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: on the offensive. Line So Cold strange at least has
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: that in his back pocket that he can play center
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: and he can play. Guard so even if he's not
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: the starter at left, guard like he could back up
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: two different, spots which is big for him now or if.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: HE i, guess even if he does win the, job
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: you still might not need to carry a backup center
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: because If wilson goes, down you're. Playing although that's pretty
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Against scarnecki's. Philosophy so where does McDaniel's fall on that
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: in terms of moving in terms of moving, right one,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: in one. Out so If Cole stranger's starting left guard
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: in your backup. Center, now, essentially if your center you
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: lose one, player you're on.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Two, backs you lose two. Players, yeah so maybe they
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: wouldn't be as quick to do. That so as it stands,
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: today without any, practice we have not observed this single.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: Thing so just off your, Gut robinson so, strange who
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: is who's the starting left guard when we get out
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: to training camp on day? ONE i Think City so
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: is the best potential. There, oh who's it going to
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: be day? One, Yeah like when we get out TO
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: o T our FIRST ota practice and we see the starting,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: five who's at left? Guard, geez that's. Tough, YEAH i
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: think IT'S i Think CITY so is gonna win. It,
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: yeah but the paths will have to come on from
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: it could be. ANYBODY i think it's gonna Be Laden. Robinson, yeah.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: PROBABLY i think there will be enough From elliott and
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: and the people that are still here from last year
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: that they'll push For Laden robinson to get.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: It.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Uh there there is like a an undercurrent there For Wes,
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: schweitzer who's like had some experience in the, league and
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: is it might Be Wes sweitzer just because he's a. Veteran,
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: yeah you, know veteran guy that that there's some there's
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: some love for him. THERE I i Love Jack.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: CONLEY i was gonna say Player Jack connolly belongs in this.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: Conversation maybe not to be the, starter but definitely as a.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Backup we've talked about diversatility a. Lot it can play
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: ALL i think you could probably play.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: OFF i have. SPOTS i think he's too tall to play.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: Center he can definitely play all. Four he's he's. Four,
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: yeah he has four position.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: VERSATILITY i think he's gonna be competing hard for backup.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Role he's somebody That so WHEN i do my roster,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: PROJECTION i think we both do this the same. Way
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: all put on at least the first one of the,
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: year and THEN i kind of tweaked on each. One but,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: like all, Right i'm gonna go. Through i'm just gonna
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: list every player THAT i think has a decent chance
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: of making the team and Then i'll go from there
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: or like every player THAT i want to put on
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: this roster, Projection.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: YEP i Have Jack connelly on.
- 1:15:31Speaker 8: There.
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: Yeah Jack, CONNELLY i think is gonna have a NICE nfl.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: CAREER i don't know if it's gonna be. Here and
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: WHEN i say, nice, LIKE i don't know if he'll
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: ever be a entrenched starter in THE. Nfl but the
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: thing that you, know and as At Boston college is pro,
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: day everybody just kept on, saying you, know six man
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: like he's gonna be the six man of some offensive
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: line where he's gonna have be a four position. Backup and,
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: oh our our left guard goes down on the opening,
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: Drive jack's going, in our right tackle goes down on
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: the opening, Drive conley's going in like. That it just
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: it has so much value that he can do. That
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: he also played a little bit of like jumbo tight
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: end to like you, know tackle eligible stuff. Like he's
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: just got a ton of. Versatility so that's, uh those
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: are sort of my you, know where my my burning questions,
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: are if you want to put it that, way on
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: this group as we head into OTAs and What i'll
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: be looking. For and it's a it's an interesting roster
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: on offense because you have some, Locks there's no doubt about.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: It there's some real entrench, guys you, Know, Campbell, Moses Henry,
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: hooper probably the receivers we Mentioned stevenson Treveon henderson and
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: Obviously Drake may And Joshua. Dawes but you know those
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: at large spots like you like to call, it like
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: those are they're up for. GRABS i, Have they're wide.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: OPEN i have thirty six players with a real shot
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: at making the team on. Offense, yeah and in reality
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: that number is probably going to be somewhere from like
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: twenty four to twenty.
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: Eight.
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah all, right we'll open it up to you. Guys,
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: now that was fun and we'll we'll get into. It
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: but before we, Do, Hey patriots, fans we want to
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: See toyota's best, offers including those not seen ON. Tv
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: go to buy A toyota Dot com Is toyota's official
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: website for deals from the official vehicle of The New England, Patriots.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: Toyota let's go, places AND i might need one of
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: these to watch The celtics game. Tonight easy to, Drink
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: easy to, enjoy Bud, light the official beer sponsor of
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: The New England. Patriots let's get to the. PHONES i
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Know sean And patty have been, waiting SO i, Apologize But,
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: sean what's. UP a couple of.
- 1:17:26Speaker 8: Weeks, ago you apologized profusely about not getting to the,
- 1:17:32Speaker 8: emails and it's kind of funny to, me at least,
- 1:17:35Speaker 8: anyways BECAUSE i wrote an email just asking or stating
- 1:17:40Speaker 8: THAT i don't Think andrew mccouba would be there because
- 1:17:43Speaker 8: he's going to be drafted too. High what do you
- 1:17:45Speaker 8: think Of Craig? Woodson AND i also asked in the
- 1:17:48Speaker 8: same email about three pullbacks Including Brock, Lampy so of
- 1:17:54Speaker 8: what your. Opinion so it's kind of funny how things
- 1:17:56Speaker 8: went and with its team there's so many, changes which
- 1:18:00Speaker 8: makes sense when the previous year you only want four.
- 1:18:03Speaker 8: Games SO i think there's going to be like half
- 1:18:06Speaker 8: the team is going to be different from last. Year
- 1:18:08Speaker 8: AND i, Like i'm. EXCITED i, MEAN i don't know
- 1:18:11Speaker 8: what's going to, happen But i'm excited about this. CLASS
- 1:18:13Speaker 8: i can imagine ten of the eleven draft picks being
- 1:18:17Speaker 8: there on day one as. Starters are you, know just
- 1:18:20Speaker 8: on the team, anyway not necessarily, starting but being part
- 1:18:25Speaker 8: of the fifty. Three and then the other QUESTION i
- 1:18:29Speaker 8: have for you is being that of the draft, picks
- 1:18:37Speaker 8: who do you think has the longest shot of making the.
- 1:18:40Speaker 8: Team so that's that's my question to, You and thanks a.
- 1:18:43Speaker 8: Lot speak to.
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: Soon thanks for the, Call, sean and a good call
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: on the draft picks and nailed. IT i would, SAY
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: i don't know the longest shot to make the team
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: is hard BECAUSE i think there's a realistic path for
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: all of. IT i really feel that.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Way is it lazy to Say Kobe, MINOR i know
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: he was the.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: Last but like, SURE i guess, YEAH i mean that's
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: an easy. One it's a crowded. Room.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: Yeah Jordan, polk the corner safety From Texas state who
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: is THE, udfa is a similar player who is going
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: to push. Him so you know a lot of those late.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: Picks borg is going to, be should be a starting.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: Kicker ashb's obviously gonna make. Team he's a long, Snapper
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: Marcus bryant we just talked about with his Vers still
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: he's a good. Shot and then you, know fifth round
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: are up usually keeping those. Guys, yeah so, yeah and
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: THEN i think it's kind Of Kobe minor just by. Default,
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: yeah and and the two defensive Lineman we're gonna do
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: these next. Week but Like Joshua farmer And Branden swinson
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: to me are not typical fourth and fifth round. Picks
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: like those guys are have much higher upside than your
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: typical fourth and fifth. Rounder SO i would be absolutely
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: stunned if both those guys are not on the. Roster you,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: know they kind of remind me a little bit more
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: of Like booty In Pop, Douglas like when they drafted
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: those guys in the sixth round and we were, like,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Well booty had the injury in, college is, right And
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: pop is just a small school.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Guy that's why he's zero. Stars, yeah, Right like it
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: just those guys felt like like more, uh you, know
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: sure things than your typical sixth round. PICK i feel
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: the same way About farmer And swinton where they were.
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: DRAFTED i think those guys are rotational players at the
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: next level in a really deep. Class So Kobe minor
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: is the obvious. Answer. Uh you, KNOW i think that
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: there's a world Where Marcus bryan's an odd man out
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: to probably just based off where he, was he probably be. Next,
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: YEAH i would say those two. Guys all, Right patty
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: is In. Agua what's, Up, Patty, Patty i'll give us
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: a call. BACK i had him on hold for a.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: While give us a call, Back. Patty, uh here he.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: Is eldred's In North. Carolina what's Up. Eldred, Hey so how.
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: Y'all doing are?
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: You?
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: QUESTION i love your prediction on wide, receivers BUT im
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: the old. GUY i Know pope And Baker ranks showing,
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: it but you don't think one of the guys Like
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: John giles or one of the guys to push mc
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: holland's off the. Roster you, KNOW i know they sound
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: for free, agent but you don't think they can.
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: Push thanks for the, Call. Elgard uh, oh go, ahead
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: you have another. One?
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: NOW i had a, rant BUT i wait. Too latest
- 1:21:12Speaker 6: that a great, guard but guard whatever his name, Is
- 1:21:15Speaker 6: BUT i wait on.
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: THAT i just got a.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Ring, okay, okay on On Matt. COLLINS i Think Mac
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: collins is. HERE i think it's a combination of you
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: just signed him as a free, agent he has familiarity with,
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: McDaniels and they need some sort of like they they
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: signed him in my mind to be like a character
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: guy in that. ROOM i like to be a, leadership
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: a blue guy in that. Room so even if maybe
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: one of these guys you know has more quote unquote
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: raw talent Than Matt collins, DOES i think he's gonna.
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: Be here's also a special teams, course special teams, Player
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: SO i think he's gonna be? Here what? What what's
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: what's your? Rent? Biggie what do you?
- 1:21:53Speaker 8: Got?
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: Well?
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: GREAT i don't like to podcast matter Effect i'm described to.
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: IT i don't like the way he Downrated, milton AND
- 1:22:04Speaker 6: i don't think it was a bad guy if did
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: heard it all during the, season AND i just don't
- 1:22:09Speaker 6: like what he said or. Whatever but it's always like
- 1:22:13Speaker 6: when a player go, away you grant from when you
- 1:22:15Speaker 6: first get, here then when he leaves or, whatever did
- 1:22:18Speaker 6: just what you called it The foxford, Blues AND i
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: just hate when you do a person like did when
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: you never heard from the. Beginning, NOW i don't blame,
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: him but trying to push for a starting. Position so
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: if nobody on that rock does want to push to
- 1:22:29Speaker 6: be the, man it shouldn't be on the. Roster besides
- 1:22:33Speaker 6: just taking, money it's. Faith and that's just the WAY
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: i feel about. Competition thanks a, lot man for hitting.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: The, rain no. Problem thanks for the, Call. ALDRED i
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: assume he's talking about bad reported About Joe milton being
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: a bad. GUY i assume that's what he's talking. About,
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: look you, KNOW i have no information on Whether Joe
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: melton was a good guy or a bad guy or
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: anything like. That i'll leave that To greg. Guy you,
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: KNOW i heard great things About Joe, milton uh when
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: they drafted. Him you know it was like this your
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: well good Guy award winner and like people are really
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: high on his character and you, know likable, guy fun
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: guy to be. Around BUT i don't have much more
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: to add other than. THAT i don't know what happened last.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Year it was to it Elser.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: Stead, LIKE i don't Doubt Joe milton wants to be a.
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: STARTER i would want anybody on my team to like
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: really be aggressively. Pushing BUT i also think that they
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: may want a certain environment For Drake, may AND i
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: think after going Through Zappy, fever this organization may be
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: a little too or a little more in tune with
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: with that kind of. Idea but you, know you hope
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: it doesn't go back and bite. Him Joe, MILTON i
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: think would be a really good backup. QUARTERBACK i would
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: have had him on the depth chart ahead Of Josh.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: Dobbs If Drake may gets, hurt that's going to be
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: a massive second.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: Guess, yeah, no it's both points are. Fair the backup
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: quarterback is always the most popular guy in, town as they,
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: SAY i think he was on a losing. Team it
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: was was It Michael, bishop, right the quarterback years ago
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: that wasn't quite as alien like As Joe milton in
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: terms of the, trades but had a huge arm and
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: could get outside the pocket and really hum it and
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: like had similar kind of checked similar boxes in terms
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: of like the skill set, Right and everybody was infatuated
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: With bishop the same way that they have been infatuated
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: With Joe. Milton so there's always that. Guy there's always
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: that guy kicking. Around it was Obviously zappi for a few.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: YEARS i understand totally clear in the decks For drake
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: may if that's what they. DID i don't know one
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: hundred percent that is what the intention, was but certainly
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: seems like that's what everybody believes or reading tea leaves
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: on it is what everything points. To BUT i we'll.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: SEE i don't have any real big gripes with Trading.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: MILTON i thought it was interesting that they did what
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: they did to get a higher draft pick by swapping
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: instead of just getting an outright draft pick out of.
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: HIM i think would be like the only thing That
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: i'd look at you, know maybe if you had held
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: on to him Like Jimmy Garoppolo Jacobe reset, style if
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: you developed him for another year or two and then
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: in like year three of the rookie, contract you traded,
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: Him like maybe you could have improved his value slightly
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: by doing. That BUT i Think Joe milton is a
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: really fun career. Backup LIKE i think he's gonna be
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: a really fun backup for some, team Maybe, Dallas BUT
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: i don't know if they're gonna be losing much sleep over.
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: Him BUT i agree With biggie in general THAT i
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: don't love that we would do it in all, sports
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: not just. Football like when a guy gets traded or
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: a guy leaves town all of a, sudden all you,
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: know all the skeletons come out about how bad of
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: a duty, was like we'll, see you. KNOW i don't
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: know how how true that is or. Isn't alex is In.
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: Syracuse what's, Up? Alex, hey guys hit?
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: Me?
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: Okay? Good?
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: Uh just a couple of.
- 1:25:50Speaker 7: Questions. Uh first of, ALL i want to say first
- 1:25:52Speaker 7: time caller Because i'm usually working at this time when you're,
- 1:25:56Speaker 7: live SO i never get a. CHANCE i always catch
- 1:25:58Speaker 7: the show after the.
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: Fact so happy to be able to call in appreciate.
- 1:26:01Speaker 7: It first, Question, uh is there anybody in the free
- 1:26:07Speaker 7: agent classics left that you look at that you could
- 1:26:10Speaker 7: add as like a depth piece to help fix certain.
- 1:26:13Speaker 7: SPOTS i was looking and thinking like A Brandon sheriff
- 1:26:16Speaker 7: at guard could come in if we don't love what
- 1:26:18Speaker 7: you have currently for that left guard. Spot and the second,
- 1:26:22Speaker 7: question AND i apologize if you answered. This i've been
- 1:26:25Speaker 7: doing housework up and. AROUND i haven't been in front
- 1:26:28Speaker 7: of the show as. Much, Uh Kayshawan. Boody it sounds
- 1:26:33Speaker 7: Like Matt collins is here and he's probably gonna be
- 1:26:36Speaker 7: THE x With diggs being here and he'll probably be
- 1:26:39Speaker 7: YOUR Z x And pulk being a A z slot
- 1:26:44Speaker 7: And pop being the. Slot where do you See booty fitting?
- 1:26:48Speaker 7: In and what can he if he doesn't fit, in
- 1:26:51Speaker 7: where what do you think he could do to try
- 1:26:53Speaker 7: and earn a spot on the? Roster, yeah and with,
- 1:26:56Speaker 7: That i'll take it off off.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Here, Guys thank, you thanks, an thanks for the, calling
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: thanks for. Listening good. Questions we did talk a little
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: bit About Kashan boody, earlier so you can go ahead
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: and you, know hear, that BUT i think we both
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: feel the same way About Kishon, booty you, know being
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: one of the clearer pass TO x receiver probably on
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: the roster to play on the. Outside in terms of
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: the free agents that are, Available shaff's an interesting. One you,
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: know he's a career right. GUARD i had Circled sheriff
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: a little bit in free agency potentially to come in
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: and be like a veteran stop gap at left guard,
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: potentially BUT i believe he's played the majority of not
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: his entire career on the right, side so he'd be you,
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: know switching over a little. Bit but it's an interesting
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: question in, general just you, know who are some. Names
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: if there are any of guys, that let's say they
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: get into camp and it's just not, working you, know
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: it's not working out at a, spot whether it's a
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: veteran or it's a younger, player you, know, rookie second
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: year guy that they thought was going to be a.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Starter there are some. GUYS i, mean it's not a
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: ton of guys that are still. Available you, know there's
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: some name receivers Like King now And Amari cooper are
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: still out. There but like even for, instance like you
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: Know Matthew, judon right, like if you or you Know
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: Von miller is a free, Agent like if one of
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: those guys you don't feel great about edge. Depth you
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: know you Have Harold, andrew you have A Kalavon chase,
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: On Anthony, Jennings Braiden swinson's a rookie. There let's Say
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: Braden swinson is not the third down pass rusher, yet
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: like he just isn't, ready you, know could you sign
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: one of those veteran guys like A, miller like A,
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: judan like someone like that to just be a stop
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: gap and play the position for you know a period of,
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: time maybe it's even only half the, season right, like
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: and Then swinson's ready to contribute more down the stretch.
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: Run but that would be the. Spot you, Know Preston
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: smith's the free agent still like, that that would probably
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: be the smart spot THAT i would look at as
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: maybe a place they could ad would be pass.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Rusher, yeah edge, guy you won More julian black if
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: they feel Like woodson isn't giving them what they need
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: at that deep safety, position and Maybe marcus EPs and
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: he isn't fully.
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: Healthy blackman still out there as a free, Agent, yeah
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: it's a good it's a good question because normally what
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: happens with those guys is we'll get Into august and
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: like two weeks into training, camp someone will get hurt
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: or some team won't feel great about their depth at
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: a certain spot or great about their, starter you, know
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: at a certain, spot and then you, Know Zeke elliott
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: a couple of years ago get, signed, right and they
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: bring in, depth and they bring in some. Reinforcements so
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: there are a couple guys kicking around that could fit.
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: THAT i don't Think Stefan gilmore signed anywhere yet.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: Either If i'm not, mistake he's not gonna sign till
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: it's gonna be like last.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: Year he just doesn't want to do. Camp, yeah he
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: doesn't need. TO i don't blame. Him, yeah that's totally.
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: Fair all, Right i'm told That patty is really here this.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: Time what's, Up? Patty what's?
- 1:29:49Speaker 7: Up?
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: Guys think about that bluetooth? Malfunction all? Good SO i
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: got a question and another hot, take only this thought
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: take is going to be centralized around The, patriots not
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: just a general N fell hot. Take first, off, question
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: is it out of the realm of the possibility that
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: we can possibly trade for one of these maybe young
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: expendable tight. Ends the two Guys i'm thinking of Are
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: Michael mayer And cole Or cole commit and the way
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: too early off Season patriots hot take is are you
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: ready for? This Kyle williams WINS Nfl Offensive rookie of The.
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: Year let's. Go i'll take the.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Question not very, guys Thanks. PATTY i will SAY i
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: think there is A patriot who could Win Offensive rookie
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: of The, year but It's Trevon. Henderson it's Not Kyle.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: Williams when's the last time an offensive lineman Won rookie The.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: YEAR i don't think they've ever done that in my.
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: Time you Think Will Campbell dift have to be like, Absurd,
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: yeah but isn't there a world Where Trevon henderson is
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: there by the end of the. Season is there number
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: one running back and it rushes for a thousand yards
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: like or at least total maybe rushing in, passing and
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: it's not a really, strong you, know offensive draft class
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: Right like it's gonna Be Travis hunter if he plays
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: receiver full, time which it sounds like he. Will ted.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: McMillan the two tight ends you Know warren And Colson, Lovelin,
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: like we'll have a good. Chance Colson, lovelin THOUGH i
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: don't know if he's gonna be healthy right out of the,
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: gate you, know at THE ac, joints so he might
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: be uh you, know start to hear on pup or something, right,
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: daw which will hurt his Cause i'm interested In Michael.
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: MAYER i. Am it's not happening because The raiders won't do. It, well,
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: YEAH i don't think he likes. McDaniels oh, well it
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: might not be his. Choice like he gets, traded he gets.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: Traded, well but this coaching staff is so big on, fit,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: Right so that's. Fair that was there was.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: There's some rumblings about. That, no there was a story
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: or he.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: Gave a quote after McDaniels got fired where he didn't
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: mention McDaniels, specifically where he basically just said he was
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: much happier after McDaniels. Left he didn't name, McDaniels.
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: BUT i, mean come, on that's. Fair but he. Did
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: McDaniels did draft.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Him so last year there were some DAYS i didn't
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: want to come.
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: In oh, jeez McDaniels did draft. Him, yeah so there's
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: that he definitely fits as that prototypical why tight end
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: in a McDaniel's offense, sense why he drafted him when
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: he was In. VEGAS i still think that there's potential.
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: There you, KNOW i was really high on him coming
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: out of. COLLEGE i think most people. Were it was
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: kind of a, similar you, know watered down version Of
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: loveland Versus Tyler, warren where Like Michael mayer was the well,
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: rounded you, know blocking tight end that could also catch,
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: passes and then you Know Sam laporta Or Dalton kincaid
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: was like the receiving tight, end like A Colson. Lovelin
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: So mayor was the war end of that, draft you,
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: know maybe not quite as highly rated of a, prospect
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: but similar type of. Mold is there a world where
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: he takes a few years like a lot of tight ends,
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: do and then like year three or, four he breaks
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: out and has his best years ahead of.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Them we ran through that list the tight ends the other,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: week and a lot of guys who really weren't great
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: until they got to their second.
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: Team i'm not against the idea as a.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: WHOLE i Just medaniel's thing might, matter and whether it's,
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: comet whether it's him or Cole kmet WHO i, Like yeah.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: One neither of those teams have a ton of tight end. Depth,
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: yeah SO i don't know why they're Trade i've heard
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: them both talked. About for The.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: PATRIOTS i don't know why they're trading either. One, yeah,
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: LIKE i don't know what the incentive is, there and
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: for The, patriots so you're gonna get, like so you're
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: gonna have to give up something significant for a guy
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: that's probably gonna be a third string tight end right. Away,
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: yeah you, know there was a time in the off
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: season where it made more sense just based on the
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: way the off season's. GONE i don't think you need
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: to overextend yourself to make that kind of.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: Move, Right, like if they had not re Signed hooper
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: and the move completely different to trade a pick For
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: mayor and have him be the backup tight end, different then, yeah,
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: like right, now what is? It what is it gonna.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Cost it's gonna cost a fifth round. Pick i'd probably do. That,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: yeah it's gonna cost a THIRD i.
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: Wouldn't, Yeah so all, right let's get to some of these,
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: emails and THEN i do want to get to our
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: our math versus not math with a conversation before the
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: end of the show that people will have to humor
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: us with a little bit Of celtics talk at the
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: end of the. Show BUT i want to get to
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: a couple of emails because we have a bunch of
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: them coming. IN i love this email because this is
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: one of those. Things and you know you've been we've
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: been doing this together long, Enough alex to know THAT
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: i fall for it every single. Time at what point
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: can we discern whether or Not Land larison And Efton
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: chism or Where Jacobi MYERS i Guess Jacoby myers or
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: LIKE i don't, Know Danny wood hit or whatever he
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: didn't put a running, back Or Ralph web or TJ,
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: Mo like, basically at what point do we know it's
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: real With chisholm and With Land. Larison the one thing
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: THAT i promise everybody is that If Efton chism goes
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: out and has a great spring with no pads and
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: no contact and he's just jitterbugging all around the field
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: and nobody can touch him because you're not allowed to
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: and he has a huge, SPRING i promise YOU i
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: will pump the brakes AND i won't go. Gas you,
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: know pedal to the medal on it Because i've seen
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: that movie. Before i'm really going to have to, see
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: especially in the case Of chisholm, specifically because running back
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: you can't you can't grade running back till the preseason,
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: Anyways like there's no, pads there's no tackling to the.
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: Ground that one is really like you can't really tell
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: with a running back UNTIL i would say probably the preseason.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: Games like you have to watch him play in games
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: to really see what he's going to bring to the.
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: Table but with Efton, Chisholm i'm not getting excited or
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: any other way About ft And chishlm UNTIL i see
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: him do it in a fully padded. Practice who was
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: the wide receiver he gave With Ralph? WEBB Tj Mo
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: austin cars right, THERE i hear. You i'm working with the.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: Email so here's WHERE i think it, Is Like Jacoby
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: meyers So Ralph, webb, right, yeah super fun. Preseason but
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: he was coming in in the fourth quarter and they
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: were just handing the ball off on every. Play, yeah
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: like he wasn't really playing against. Anybody there really was
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: anything drawn? Up was we need this clock to? Run Jacoby,
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: myers IF i remember, correctly played almost start.
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: To finish in all of those preseason.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: Games like he was on the, field maybe not against,
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: starters but against like LEGITIMATE nfl, backups like guys who
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: were going to make the.
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: Team so that's the.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: DIFFERENTIATOR i don't know that there's one moment where it's
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: like yes or. No Because rodley mccharran made the team
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: look good in the, preseason made the team was not.
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: Ready there's another name you can throw out.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: There but.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: IF i remember, again IF i remember correctly on one
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: hundred percent show THAT i, do And i'll try to find.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: It but Like riley McCarran was just kind of In,
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: austin car were just kind of playing in the fourth
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: quarter of these. Games they weren't really out there for a.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: Bulk Whereas Jacoby myers was out. THERE i don't think
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: he was catching passes From, brady but he was out
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: there with guys who are gonna make the team against
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: guys who.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: Are gonna Make, yeah that's always a good. Tell that's a. Differentiator,
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: Yeah so it's always a good tell of who's he
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: running with right and maybe won't be with the starting
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: quarterback right. Away but If Efton chisholm In august finds
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: himself in a group With Kendrick bourne And Jalen polk
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: And Jay Von, baker and that Grew Kesehan boodie in
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: the group we were talking about, earlier and ft And
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: chisholm is getting reps over one of those guys or
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: two of those. Guys that's when you know it's starting
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: to get real right. Now if he's running with the
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: threes all summer, long then they're not seeing. It they're
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: not seeing that he's that he's in that group. Yet
- 1:37:37Speaker 2: But i'm gonna have to really, LIKE i might not
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: even believe it With Kyle williams UNTIL i see him
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: might do it in like regular season games at this,
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: point because even though it wasn't eye, popping Like Jalen
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: polk had a solid rookie training, camp, like it wasn't
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: LIKE i, said it wasn't eye. Popping it wasn't, like
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: oh my, god this guy's a difference. Maker he moves.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: Differently you, know this is. Incredible but If Kyle williams
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: goes out there next week or the week after whenever
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: we have our FIRST ota and he's like tearing it
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: up in spring. Practices I'm i'm gonna be cautious about.
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: THAT i am So.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: Jacoby meyers his rookie preseason where to? Go it just
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: had it played like fifty played forty four fifty, three
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: sixty and fifty one. Snaps, yeah played a toime over
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: those four, games, right played played a lot so for,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: comparison doesn't go far enough back for me for TJ.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: Mo But Austin carr the last two games it started
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: to drop. Off he played a lot, early but not as,
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: much especially in that third. Game he only played twenty
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: nine snaps in that third, game which was when the starter's. Played,
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: yeah so that's what it's gonna come down, To, like
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: it's it who is he doing it? Against that's what holds.
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: Weight so on these same, lines next question here From
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: Christian he asks over under three udfas to make the
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: fifty three man. Roster so three is the. NUMBER i
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: think it's gonna be. THREE i think it's gonna be exactly.
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: THREE i think it's gonna Be chisholm Lamp. Lampey i'll
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: say over because Maybe Elijah ponder, Either Jack connelly sneak, On,
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: YEAH i, KNOW i keep saying we're gonna do defense next.
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: Week but we're gonna do defense next. Week AND i
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: Think Elijah ponder's got a real shot. Too, yeah you,
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: know right now at, EDGE i Got Landry Chase, On
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: Jennings Swinson ponder like that's only five guys and run
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: through it, Again Landry, Chaison, Jennings, Winson, Ponder chase on
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: what about are you not counting hit? Player no defensive? Line? Okay,
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: Yeah so looking at it that, way you, know especially fit,
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: wise like, schematically you, know is he a better Fit
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: ponder Than Anthony jennings for like the style of play
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: that they want to, play you know up the? Field you,
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: know guy that's got speed off the edge like he
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: to me if it's way you, know he's way more
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: in The Landry chase On swinson mold Than Anthony jennings.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: Is SO i think that there's a real chance For
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: ponder as. Well So i'm Gonna i'm gonna say. PUSH
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: i think push is the right. Answer but it's a
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: good for the sake of facilitation in the. Conversation i'll
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: Say i'll take the over on. Three all, right let's,
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: UH i have four on.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Rate so AGAIN i do that thing where LIKE i
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: put all those guys, ON i have it down to
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: six fifty six players right.
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: Now that's with five u. DFAs, yeah that's. Fair all.
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: Right this is a good, question probably a better question
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: for For fred And paul because they know the history
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: a little bit better than. Me but would the team
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: ever consider unretiring Some jersey? Numbers, PERSONALLY i think only
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: twelve and seventy three should be.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: Retired, well fifty six, too which isn't technically, retired they
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: just haven't given it back. Out they should retire formally retire.
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: Fifteen so seventy three Is John Hannah for people that don't,
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: Know i'm ninety Six Andre. Tippet fifty six is Tipp.
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: It SO i was talking about this the other DAY
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: u or, yesterday and we didn't get to talk a
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: ton about. It But i've been Watching Celtic. CITY i
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: Think i'm seven episodes In Larry bird just, retired WHICH
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: i thought was. Cool just side, note Like Brady knight
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: was Basically Larry Bird. Night, yeah just bigger. People people
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: had said, That yeah it. Was it was the, Inspiration, yeah,
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: Certainly and you Know Magic johnson being With, Bird peyton
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: being With. Brady it was. Definitely it was funny Because
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: i've been Watching Celtic city With jess Because i'm such
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: a Big celtics. Fan she's trying to get to know
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: the history of the team a little bit better and
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: uh and she, said, oh it's just Like Brady. KNIGHT
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: i was, like, yeah like it literally is just Like Brady.
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: Knight side. Note, uh BUT i think that there's a
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: really would be a really cool AND i get the
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: history of The patriots is not as interesting as the
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: history of The patriots or The celtics is not as you,
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: know is way more interesting than The patriots. History, uh
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: but you, know just based off the, winning but people
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: our age and, younger Like John, hannah you, know you,
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: Know Bruce, Armstrong Ben, Coates Jenny, Cappelletti Comandre, Tippett Stanley,
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: Morgan Russ. Francis who's the freaking corner THAT i can't
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: believe On Mike, haynes did you Say Sam Bam cunning,
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Here Sam bam like all these. NAMES i don't think
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: that at like it's not talked about because there didn't
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: win at the level of A russell or A bird
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: or A Hale check or something like, that so it's
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: not the brew it's not The celtics. History but, like
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: isn't there wouldn't it be cool to have like a
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: doc Like Celtic city that like went from like nineteen
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: sixty on and gave some flowers to like some of these,
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: people because we're talking about The Patriots hall Of, fame
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: and you, Know Adam viniti got a question in here
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: kind of a comment in the emails as well about
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: How vinitary wasn't a Career patriot and he went to
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: The colts and you, know he played more years for
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: The colts than he did with The. Patriots AND i
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: just think that there's a, real like A Celtic Cities
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: city style documentary which really goes through the history of
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: The patriots and some of their great players that, know
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: they weren't on dynasty teams and it wasn't that, Great
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: BUT i think it would be.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: COOL i mean a lot of, people Maybe i'm coming
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: across as is too much of a kid. Here aren't
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: the nineteen seventy six or for a, while maybe this
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: has changed in the last like ten fifteen. Years, yeah
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: weren't the nineteen seventy Six patriots considered for a while
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: one of the better teams to not make A Super.
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: Bowl, yeah and That's, dallas you, know seventy, six eighty, five,
- 1:43:29Speaker 2: yeah ninety six are like those were the three best
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: teams In patriot history until The.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: Dynasty one of those teams in the SIXTIES i think
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: is up there.
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: Too but, yeah, yeah and like the team in seventy
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: six is absolutely, loaded like with Like hall of, Famers, yeah,
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: NO i have it.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: Here Steve grogan was the. Quarterback you Have Sam, cunningham,
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: Yea Marlon, Brisco Darryl, Stingley Russ francis at tight end
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: your offensive, Line Pete, Brock Leon, Gray John. Hannah, like, dude, people,
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: REALLY i don't think you Said Julius, Addles Joyce adams
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: before he has a case to be in The hall Of.
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: Fame We Ray.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: Hamilton, yeah like they're gonna have any other great linebackers
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: Then Tim, fox.
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: Younger, people AND i include, Myself Like i'm not saying
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: this to like back in my, day like, no like
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: Like Leon gray was, Awesome Like Leon gray was a
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: really good. Player yeah you know like that that's a
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: really good. Player he.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: Was actually if you go back and, watch BECAUSE i
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: think the full video Of John Hannah's Patriots hall Of
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: fame speed Or, no it was when they Put Leon gray. In,
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: yeah And John hannah he since passed. Away John hannah
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: gave a really awesome speech About Leon.
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: Gray was it dear bledsoe got in no with With Gil. Santos, Yeah,
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: no this. Was this was like Maybe vince or Or
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: rodney two thousand whatever was if you want to hear
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: some awesome stories about the old School, Patriots John hannah
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: had some great stories about him And Leon. Gray on the.
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Retiring number thing, Though SO i don't think you should
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: unertur numbers because it's not fairly.
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: Guys these numbers are.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: Retired also for what it's worth just objectively, aesthetically we're
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: not missing out on that many great.
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: Numbers twenty is a good.
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: Number but it's, gino Mister, patriot not touching. That like
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: it's Like Johnny, pesky you're really missing seventy, Nine no
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: offense to Jim Ley. Hunt, no you really missing seeing
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: seventy nine out.
- 1:45:18Speaker 2: There. No what they should do is they should retire fifty.
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: Six ye stop retiring numbers after fifty six and do
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: some sort of ring of. Honor AND i guess that's
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: what The Patriots hall Of fame. Is but there should
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: be something in, this something in that maybe you put
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: a banner with all the names on it or something
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: something in the stadium that represents.
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: It is really, cool and there's multiple stadiums that are like,
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: this but you, know going to some of the historic
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: like going To lambeau and seeing all those names Of Curly,
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: lamba you, know like all the way across the, stadium
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: like in the, ring like Literally ring Of honor Across
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: lambeau like. THAT i, mean the, History like that's really.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: Cool Like i'm not a big history, guy but it
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: was still really cool to see. That SO I I i.
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: Agree you can't unretire the. Numbers that's not. Fair you.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: Know there's a lot of talk about numbers and retiring
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: numbers and unretiring Because Abdul carter asked for fifty six
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: From Lawrence, taylor which good For Lawrence, Taylor like, yeah
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: like go get your own, number, Dude like, No I'm Lawrence.
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: Taylor uh, no good for. HIM i feel the same
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: way about like The patriots retired, numbers you, know Because
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: i've seen a lot of people like why do you
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: retire numbers to begin, with, nobody AND i mean nobody
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: is wearing twelve for The New England patriots never, Again
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: like are you kidding? Me like obviously not like you're
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: not doing. That LIKE i personally would probably, retire would
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: think about retiring eighty seven as. Well that's the greatest
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: tight end of all.
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: Time SO i Have by the, Way Leon gray got
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: in With Rodney, harrison which.
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: Is, YEAH i figured it was around.
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: There so, LIKE i think the purpose of retired number
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: one once you were, tire once you reissue in numbers too,
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: late it clearly wasn't important. Enough, Yeah so like when
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: when the eighty, seven when The.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: Red sox.
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: Retired Wade boggs, number Brock holt had to stop wearing.
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: It to, me it's about the mental association of that
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: number in that, font in those colors means something, like
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: it's one of the stupidest things in sports that The
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: Miami heat Have Michael jordan's number, retired, Right Jackie robinson's
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: another thing that fine retiring the number of players who
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: didn't play for your, team to me is dumb because
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: the idea is like when you see AND i see
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: they have different, uniforms now so it doesn't happen as
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: much in. Games like in, Practice i'll be out there
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: And i'll see thirty seven if it's a defensive, player
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: if it's in, blue and like everyone so, on a
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: little thing in the back my head Goes Ronnie. Harrison,
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: yeah Because i'm thinking about the practice footage on The
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: Super bowl DVDs and on you, KNOW nfl films Of
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: Rodney harrison in the blue thirty seven or it. Had it,
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: happens especially when the number hasn't been worn by another prominent, player,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: Right it'll also happen with guys like more recently twenty.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Eight still See James, white like the thing in the
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: back of my. Head SO i think that's what retired
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: numbers are. About that you have a certain snociation with
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: that number in those colors and those font that like
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: you shouldn't be looking at that like.
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: That it means.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: Something that visual image means. Something so you're moving on
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: from that should be. Rare BUT i do think there's
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: a point to. It but like with, FOOTBALL i get
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: it's different because there's so many it's hard on the.
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: ROSTER i think the other thing THAT i would like
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: more in pro, football, yeah is one of the few
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: THINGS i like about college football wich IS i love
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: that certain numbers mean something in college football that is very,
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: Cool like seven AT. Lsu eighteen AT lsu is another
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: one that means something LIKE i love that those that
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: they have, That and like with The, PATRIOTS i think it's,
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: like obviously twelve is OFF, limcaf no one's ever gonna
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: work twelve, again but it's right there with certain, numbers
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: like twenty four is your top, Corner, yeah fifty four
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: is your top. Linebacker, yeah Although Brian waters did it,
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: proud but, yes, yeah but, like, uh you, know maybe
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: eighty or eighty one is the receiver. Number, Yeah Randy
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: moss wore eighty, one sixty sixty at, Center, yeah sixty at.
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: Center you, know eighty seven at tight end is like
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: your number one tight. End i'm all for like guys
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: like having you, know the freedom depict their numbers. Too
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: BUT i just feel like that's kind of. Cool and
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: that's how the whole.
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: Concept Of jersey numbers. Started, Yeah, yankees it was their batting,
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: war right. Right SO i would love the idea of
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: AN nfl team being, like all, right like you're in this,
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: role you get this number.
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: And like would it be? Kind and, look he wanted
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: to pick, zero that's totally his, decision but, like wouldn't
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: it have been? Cool and maybe it's just cool Because
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: i'm a person that creates, content so it would be
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: cool for the. Content but if Like tylaw and Like
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: Stefan gilmour And Drell reevis like came out and like
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: Gave Christian gonzalez twenty four and we're, like you know
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: your next, kid, right like maybe like fifty.
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Six it's like The Star. Pass it's, cool like it's franchise.
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: History so this is something THAT i don't think this
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: would work in THE. Nfl michigan did. This they don't
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: do it, anymore but they. Did instead of retiring, numbers
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: if you wear that, number there was a patch on
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: the jersey yah that had two or three one two
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: or three.
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: Names depending on the history the number that like wrecking.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: NICE i Remember Devin garder wearing ninety eight was super
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: weird For, michigan but he had some connection or something
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: to one of the guys that would warn, it and
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: so he had there's a patch on the jersey that
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: said the guy's name on.
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: It like that was really.
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: COOL i don't think that would work in THE nfl
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: because the league wants everything to be so uniform right
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: within the, uniforms so they're not going to have. That but,
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: LIKE i, know just JUST i, THOUGHT i just love
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: that about. COLLEGE i think that it's like it's really.
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: Cool you, know obviously they're but it's like an.
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: Honor and then there's like it's really cool when you
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: look at the history of like you, know all the
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: players AT lsu that wore with, seven, right that With,
- 1:50:33Speaker 2: campbell like all the players that wore, that Like Patrick
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: peterson and like these superstar players that have come THROUGH.
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: Lsu like it's just a cool element to the whole.
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: Thing and like you hand it, down it's like a big.
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: THING a lot of, schools like you have to earn
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: a single digit. Number you can't wear a single digit
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: number right, away. Right Uh, no it's it's it's a
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: really cool it's it's a really cool. THING i don't
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: think it would work in THE nfl because the other
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: part of it is you have this roster turnover a
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: reason every four years you have a whole new. Rosters
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: you can continue to give it. Out it kind of changes.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: Things BUT i do like the, idea, like all, right,
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: sixty that's your starting. Center, yeah you, know all, right
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: eighty seven is the starting tight. End twenty four is the, corner, right,
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: YEAH i, DO i do like.
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: That, yeah all, right let's Take mark's call and then
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: but they should retire fifty. Six it's out of. Circulation
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: it is out of. Circulat but, WELL i Think andre
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: deserves The. YEAH i don't know what the story is
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: there because the works for the, organization and like it's
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: out of. CIRCULATION i don't know if it's. Beneficial mark
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: is In. Connecticut what's, Up?
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: Mark, hey, Guys always appreciate you guys taking my, Call
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: love you, guys of, course just a quick. Thing evan our,
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: GUY C.
- 1:51:42Speaker 7: J debray loved this.
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: Kid apparently he had like five or six other offers
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: drafted free agent offers from other, teams and supposedly the
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: reason why he came here was because he Wanted Mike
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: rabel to coach, him and that is. Huge so thinking about,
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: that it's almost like The Tom brady days are, back
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: when players are going to now want to start coming
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: here because you, know it used to be because Of Tom.
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: Brady now hopefully players are gonna want to come here
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: because Of Mike. Brabel and then the other take was
- 1:52:12Speaker 4: The celtics then they really need to lay the hammer
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: down and just stop chucking up threes and just really
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: get that killer instinct and just drive the hoop when
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: you've got players in foul, trouble you, know just keep
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: driving the.
- 1:52:24Speaker 6: Hoop you.
- 1:52:25Speaker 7: Know that's my take on.
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: Everything love you.
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: Guys, Thanks, Mark thanks Said dupre signed here because Of.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: Rabel he, said oh, yeah, yeah, YEAH i mean multiple.
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: Overage it's a little you.
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: Know ONE udfa is a little bit away from saying
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: like to Draw Tom, brady but it's a.
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: Design. Yeah now there's multiple guys though in free agency
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: too That i've spoken about. That mark, segued it's the
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: last five minutes of the show In may you guys
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: can stomach Some celtics top BUT i want to this
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: is actually LIKE i want to make this about football,
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: though because what's going the conversation around The celtics and
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: people that aren't basketball. Fans The celtics shot sixty three
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: pointers In game one against The, knicks which they, lost
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: instead OF nba record with forty five missed three, pointers
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: so basically they historically they were historically bad from three
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: On monday, night and they just kept. Chucking they kept
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: on chucking. Threes And alex AND i for the last
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: two days in our texts have literally not stopped arguing
- 1:53:16Speaker 2: about this Because i'm A Celtics green. TEAMER i couldn't
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: cut me.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: Open, apparently blowing a twenty point lead to a team
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: From New, york an inferior team From New, york is
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: now considered.
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: Acceptable, NO i didn't say that because they got one,
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: ring so to KNOW i can do. It SO i
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: think it's interesting, though because this kind of goes back
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: to Our Ben Johnson Mike rabel. Debate it's literally just
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: The Ben johnson my.
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: Friend it's literally the Same Kyle shanahan.
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: Debate it's the same you use The Kyle shanahan, line, which,
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: like you, know you got from me kind, Of but
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: that's all, RIGHT i got we were texting about, it
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: and he got there together and then he had to
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: we we got there, together and then you had to
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: take a shot At Kyle. Shanahan it works tax thing
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: About rory kind. Of so here's the thing though about
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: this with. Football you, know basically your, ARGUMENT i think
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: is that like the nerds in football just want to
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: throw the ball all the time and and you know,
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: whatever being sort of be, aggressive go for it all the.
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: Time and the three point the volatility is similar to
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: the three. Points, well it's just, look so do The.
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: Celtics here's WHERE i Think i'm different from the what
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: you're hearing yelled. At you do The celtics in a
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: bubble philosophically shoot too many three.
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: Pointers, Overall it's probably a little more Than i'd, like
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: but like they're good at. It it's what they're built.
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: FOR i don't think night in and night, out The
- 1:54:40Speaker 2: celtics shoot too many.
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: Threes my bigger issue is there are going to and
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: this is this goes back to shanahanting they are going
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: to be some knights or certain situations where it no
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: longer makes sense to shoot. Threes and the math, coaches
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: whether it be in, football whether it be in, basketball
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: certainly happens a lot. Baseball, yeah refuse to adjust from
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: their strategy because the spreadsheet tells them this is what
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: you need to do to win the. Game the spreadsheet
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: was created before the, game not when you're up twenty
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: points in the third quarter or two touchdowns in the
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: fourth quarter of The Super, bowl but they continue to
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: go bombs away when, really all you gotta do with
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: this big lead is just run out the. Clock and
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: it's maybe not mathematically, sexy but it's how you're gonna
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: win the. Game Miami, football give you another, One like
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: when they refuse to take that knee last. Year, yeah,
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: right because they wanted to add rushing yards or, whatever and.
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: They fumbled And Georgia tech won the. Game, like at
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: a certain, point just win the.
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: Game don't worry about the box, score don't worry about
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: your YOUR epa or. Whatever it is a, basketball expected
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: shots something.
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: Whatever, yeah just two, different very different. Things just grind
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: it out and win the. Game that's my big.
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: Problem SO i think, That and so just to, Finished,
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: yeah The celtics are good enough that they can win multiple.
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: Weights that's what makes them a great. Team it's not
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: as easy Without porzingis on the. FLOOR i wonder if
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: it plays out differently With porzingis In game one if
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: he had been.
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: Healthy but like they did. It this is what makes
- 1:56:05Speaker 2: it so.
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: Frustrating they did it against The MAGIC i saw them
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: do it last year against the The.
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: Mavericks the just. Insistency it almost.
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: Took me back To game one of the, season which they,
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: won but what they missed the last nineteen three pointers
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: trying to break the.
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: Record just go to the. Paint you can do. It
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: you have the ability to do.
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: It Jalen brown's at his best when he just puts
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: his shoulder into a defender and. Goes You Carl Anthony
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: towns on what four or five fouls hunt him on the.
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: Floor but, No Kyle shanahan has to Have Jimmy garoppolo
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: throw the ball deep in the fourth quarter of The
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: Super bowl up two, scores because that's what the math.
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: Said Catching strat's what killed. Me, Okay SO i would
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: say that for me, personally you, KNOW i HEAR i
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: lean more towards math than than your side of the.
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: Street But Joe mizzoula takes it even a little bit
- 1:56:49Speaker 2: further THAN i would, like, because first of, ALL i
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: think the biggest thing With missoula, is you, Know i'm
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: a big subscriber in football to you pass the. Score
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: you run to, win, Right so you pass to get
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: to get the, lead and you once you get the,
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: lead that's when possession and and clock and all that
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: kind of stuff starts to come into, play especially in
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: the fourth quarter of. Games, now it's Not Super, bowl
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: it's not exactly apples to apples with basketball and. Football
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: it's not the same sport where like in football you
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: could literally possess the ball for ten straight, Minutes, like
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: you can't do, that RIGHT u in. Basketball but it's
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: similar in the sense that if you have a twenty
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: point lead in the third, quarter, like you don't need
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: to win by, forty, Right so just trade blows with
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: them for the next fifteen minutes and roll off into the,
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: sunset and you're you're a squeaky. Coin you won the.
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: Game even if you're trade here's a math for. You
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: you're up, twenty, right even if you're trading threes for.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: Twos, yeah what does that take?
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: Eleven, no that's gonna take twenty one, baskets twenty one
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: possessions right for them to just tie the.
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: Game and NOW i think that the In Joe's slight,
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: DEFENSE i think the analytics people that the the questions
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: that they bring up are, okay, well like we just
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: go into like the four corners, offense, right, like and
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: we just you, know eat clock and take this. Shot
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: clock all the way down and that's like throwing us
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: off the rhythm of our typical, game, Right.
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: But it's not just but they Didn't this is my.
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: Point they didn't have the rhythm like it was clear
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: they were. Cold and this is what the math doesn't.
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: Have it's the human element of these guys don't have.
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: It.
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: Tonight they were really good pick and roll. Team The
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: knicks were sitting on the three for most of that.
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: Game run a pick and, roll get a.
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: Layup so now the bigger the bigger thing though for
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: the nerds is that they look at it over the
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: course of a seven game, series, right so they, say
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: what are the odds that we're gonna shoot twenty seven
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: percent from three over the course of seven full. Games
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: we might it might happen to us once like it
- 1:58:47Speaker 2: did the other, night and we might lose a, game
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: but the odds are more in our favor that four
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: times out of seven we're gonna shoot it well enough
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: to win the.
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: Game, okay when you're when you're up twenty and you've
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: missed what, five, six, seven isn't there something to be
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: said for you, KNOW i know it's a, cliche but
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: it's talked about for a. Reason you gotta see one
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: go in get to the. Rim either draw, fouls you
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: get free, throws or get a. Layup and Like i'm
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: not saying they couldn't shoot another.
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: Three for the rest of the. Night can't you just
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: get one layup just to kind of flip the. Momentum,
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: yeah SO i agree with like you on more than
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: you probably, think BECAUSE i do agree with you that
- 1:59:25Speaker 2: all these nerd, coaches WHO i, love by the, way
- 1:59:28Speaker 2: but this is this is WHAT i, say BUT i
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: think it was the open of the show the other.
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: Week, yeah you love them until they do something that's
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: dumb because of the, math and then you disown.
- 1:59:34Speaker 2: Them all these nerd coaches are are just allergic to
- 1:59:40Speaker 2: the run to win, aspect, right like they're allergic to
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: we built a twenty point lead with five minutes ago
- 1:59:45Speaker 2: in the third. Quarter now we don't need to build
- 1:59:48Speaker 2: a lead. Anymore we just need to maintain the. Lead
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: and that should change the way you play.
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: Adjustments it's All i'm asking and they don't ask you
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: For and let me be, CLEAR i still think The
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: celtic's gonna win the.
- 1:59:58Speaker 2: Title, yeah so this is more just so that's the
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: caveat for everybody, Though it's, like, WELL i still think
- 2:00:02Speaker 2: they're gonna, win but, right they're gonna. Win the game Is.
- 2:00:05Speaker 2: Boston this Is.
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: Boston IF i can't be annoyed blowing a twenty point
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: lead to a team From New, york what even are we? Anymore,
- 2:00:12Speaker 1: okay so last thing on, this then we have to
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: go my bigger gripe With Joe mizula in this, game
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: BECAUSE i. WON'T i refuse to get on the math
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: thing LIKE i refuse to do. It so my biggest
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: gripe was On Joe mizula in this. GAME i thought
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: that his substitution patterns. Stunk AND i also thought that you,
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: know his ato's and end a game handling stunk as.
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: Well but the substitution, PATTERNS i don't feel like this
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: is being talked about a. Ton SO i Thought pritchard
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: actually had to go in a little. Bit in game,
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: ONE i had twelve.
- 2:00:40Speaker 2: POINTS i think in like twenty three, minutes and then
- 2:00:43Speaker 2: they can't buy a bucket in the fourth, quarter and
- 2:00:46Speaker 2: they they can't find like a two or three minute
- 2:00:48Speaker 2: stretch to see If pritcher can provide a, spark like
- 2:00:51Speaker 2: he's the same original player can't make. It he's a
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: sixth man of The, year, right like, literally Like i'm
- 2:00:55Speaker 2: not asking for him to. Close LIKE i understand why
- 2:00:57Speaker 2: you close With Holiday white The jays and Now, horford
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: like that's your close and. FIVE i get. It but
- 2:01:02Speaker 2: like with six minutes ago in the fourth quarter and
- 2:01:05Speaker 2: The knicks now have tied the, game and you haven't
- 2:01:07Speaker 2: scored a basket five on, five you, know not from
- 2:01:10Speaker 2: the free throw line or whatever in like ten, Minutes
- 2:01:12Speaker 2: like don't you think that the like the literal microwave
- 2:01:15Speaker 2: off the bench that you have sitting there might come
- 2:01:17Speaker 2: in and hit some seven in a.
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: Row so the math tells us that the number has
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: to regress back or progress back to the. Means so
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: so that's let these guys keep chucking because eventually they'll
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: hit one because you, know, mentally it's not changing them at.
- 2:01:28Speaker 2: All having this thing that bothered. Me, No, No pritchard
- 2:01:31Speaker 2: late bothered. ME i thought that he could provide a,
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: spark and then The houser minutes were just like out
- 2:01:35Speaker 2: of nowhere and just.
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: TERRIBLE i think that LOSING i Think porzingis was supposed
- 2:01:40Speaker 1: to play a big role in the, series and losing him.
- 2:01:42Speaker 2: Through everythingzings they Lost porzingis. Early, no you still to
- 2:01:45Speaker 2: be able to, adjust you still so, yeah but as
- 2:01:49Speaker 2: a bench, player and this is in any, sport but
- 2:01:51Speaker 2: like especially in, basketball Like Sam hauser didn't, play, yeah
- 2:01:56Speaker 2: for the first half of the, game and then with
- 2:01:59Speaker 2: five minutes ago in the third, quarter with The knicks
- 2:02:01Speaker 2: making a, comeback they just threw him into the. Game,
- 2:02:04Speaker 2: YEAH i.
- 2:02:04Speaker 1: DON'T i, AGAIN i think Port zinglis was supposed to
- 2:02:07Speaker 1: play more, minutes and Then cornett hasn't been playing well
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: and there so he was just the next. Guy rotation got, messed,
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: right you, know should they have gone To? Caada should
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: they have gone To Xavier.
- 2:02:15Speaker 2: Tillman BUT i Just housers like a rhythm. Shooter all
- 2:02:20Speaker 2: of a, sudden he has a couple of wide open
- 2:02:21Speaker 2: threes that he, bricks, right he normally makes if you
- 2:02:24Speaker 2: had gotten him like a little bit of run in
- 2:02:26Speaker 2: the first half and he's into the, game he's had.
- 2:02:28Speaker 2: It like those were big, shots like wide open threes
- 2:02:31Speaker 2: that he typically makes that were big shots in the.
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: Game and he was cold coming off the, Bench, like,
- 2:02:36Speaker 2: yeah everybody was, cold but this they. Did they didn't
- 2:02:38Speaker 2: just to being. Cold that was story of the.
- 2:02:39Speaker 1: Night but the thing that bothered me the most that
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: didn't relate to The, math although kind of relate to The.
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: Math they were doing a really good job running those
- 2:02:45Speaker 1: foul tolls. Up and again they Had Karl Anthony towns
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: what four or five, thousand third quarter very, early and
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: they should have been hunting him more and they. Didn't
- 2:02:52Speaker 1: and some of that is because they wanted the. Threes but,
- 2:02:54Speaker 1: like get the switch and the nick to the next.
- 2:02:57Speaker 1: Credit they were good at playing off the switch and
- 2:03:00Speaker 1: making Sure towns wasn't. Exposed but like take advantage of,
- 2:03:03Speaker 1: that get your, mismatches but Get Jalen brown Or Jason
- 2:03:06Speaker 1: tatum on A Karl Anthony towns on the, switch go
- 2:03:08Speaker 1: to the. Basket he's either gonna have to leave you
- 2:03:10Speaker 1: alone he can easy lay, up or he's gonna value
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: and you're gonna take one of their best players out
- 2:03:14Speaker 1: of the.
- 2:03:14Speaker 2: Game all, Right, well thanks for humoring us With celtics.
- 2:03:17Speaker 2: Talk but there's definitely some parallels there with The celtics
- 2:03:20Speaker 2: conversation right now with The math and the nerds and
- 2:03:23Speaker 2: your Boy fellger yelling it's a human, Game, like no,
- 2:03:26Speaker 2: KIDDING i understand there's not cgi athletes running. Around it's.
- 2:03:31Speaker 2: Mental you miss so many shots in a, row it's.
- 2:03:33Speaker 2: Mental you have to get. It get they're, humans they're
- 2:03:36Speaker 2: not they're not.
- 2:03:37Speaker 1: Robot, WELL i like our looks doesn't mean anything when
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: guys are in their head about.
- 2:03:41Speaker 2: It, well they normally make those. Shots they, did but they. Weren't,
- 2:03:43Speaker 2: okay well they it's not it's because they may will
- 2:03:47Speaker 2: take the same shots they took On monday night and
- 2:03:49Speaker 2: they'll make.
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: THEM i hope they don't shoot a three for like
- 2:03:51Speaker 1: ten minutes.
- 2:03:52Speaker 2: Tonight, well that would worry me because then they then
- 2:03:54Speaker 2: they're listening to You bozo's too much at the sports
- 2:03:57Speaker 2: ub over.
- 2:03:57Speaker 1: There all, Right No joe's gonna come out of him
- 2:03:59Speaker 1: shoot twenty threes in a.
- 2:04:01Speaker 2: Row all. Right, well we'll be back next. Week hopefully
- 2:04:04Speaker 2: this all this will be in better shape than they
- 2:04:06Speaker 2: are right now in terms of the. Series but we'll
- 2:04:08Speaker 2: be back next. Week Rookie mini. Caamp hopefully this weekend
