- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning and well, good afternoon from the
- 0:31chicken coop. As I come out here to make sure
- 0:34everybody gets in. Rufus isn't here obviously to do
- 0:39that job. So the other rooster isn't quite
- 0:41used to wrangling the hens. That was not his role.
- 0:44So he's figuring out his new role and kind of, I wouldn't say
- 0:49he's struggling as much as he just has no clue.
- 0:53He just doesn't have a clue and he's figuring it out.
- 0:56And which brings me to the point of today's conversation.
- 1:02The the tragedy happened over the weekend, losing him and it
- 1:06put me in this place where I just was.
- 1:08I hunkered down and did what I needed to do to get through my
- 1:13weekend and feel, try to feel better.
- 1:15And one of the things that I like to do is go to Costco and
- 1:19wander through Costco. And they now have this thing
- 1:22where you can get in earlier if you're an executive member,
- 1:25which I always had that membership.
- 1:27So I just figured, oh, I'm going to go early.
- 1:30And there's this thing with parking at Costco, which is
- 1:33really weird how everybody likes to park as close as they can.
- 1:37I just kind of take it for I want to park in the shade.
- 1:39So I'm going to look for shade. I'm just not going to park as
- 1:42close as I possibly can. So I'm out there, I'm pulling
- 1:45in, I'm ready to park and I see somebody else who's, you know,
- 1:50ready to pull out. And I'm, I'm like, OK, I'm, I'm
- 1:54not going to worry about this spot.
- 1:55And I, because it's not where I wanted to park.
- 1:58I wanted to park further away in the shade.
- 1:59So I go drive down and I pull in into the spot that's in the
- 2:04shade, get out of my truck. I start walking up and I see
- 2:08that that spot is still wide open.
- 2:10Now, here's The funny thing. This spot is maybe 15 feet,
- 2:14maybe 15 feet from another spot that this man is incredibly
- 2:19focused on getting. I don't know why, but he's
- 2:23incredibly focused on getting that particular spot and he's
- 2:26just sitting there with his directional on.
- 2:28He's getting more and more irritated and he can see that
- 2:31the crowds are building. He's getting more and more
- 2:33irritated and the woman is taking her time packing her
- 2:36vehicle and, and she should she had the spot she had every
- 2:38right. But you can look in the window
- 2:40and you can see him just getting more and more animated, more and
- 2:43more irritated. Now, mind you, I'm super
- 2:46observant and I'm in this head space of being slowed down
- 2:49because I'm trying to collect myself and heal myself from
- 2:53everything that happened. So I'm super, I'm super centered
- 2:58and like in the moment, trying to stay out of my head.
- 3:02So I stop and I watch him. I'm just like leaning up against
- 3:05the collection area for the carts and I'm watching him
- 3:08completely missing the wide open space less than 15 feet away.
- 3:13And he just doesn't see it. He's just sitting there getting
- 3:16more and more animated, more and more aggravated.
- 3:19And she's taking her time. And then he gets to the point
- 3:22where he blows the horn. Now Can you imagine this?
- 3:25He blows the horn, which really is unbelievable.
- 3:29And she turns around and she's like, completely unaware that
- 3:32he's, like waiting for the spot. And she sees him and she just
- 3:35waves. Like, she's completely sweet.
- 3:37And she just waves. She's just like, hey.
- 3:39And he puts his window down and he's like, are you?
- 3:42Are you leaving? And she's like, yeah, yeah.
- 3:45When I'm done packing and I'm just sitting there befuddled as
- 3:50to the fact that this man could possibly ask this woman if she's
- 3:53leaving. Clearly she's packing her car.
- 3:55Clearly she's leaving and he doesn't notice that there's a
- 3:59spot right down there. All of a sudden as he's sitting
- 4:04there completely still aggravated that she's taking her
- 4:06time doing what she's doing because she's putting her Costco
- 4:09stuff. She doesn't have the boxes from
- 4:10Costco. She's got bags.
- 4:12So she's taking her stuff from her car and bought bagging it up
- 4:15into her stuff and then putting it into her vehicle.
- 4:19She doesn't notice. She doesn't even think about the
- 4:22fact like he's actually aggravated.
- 4:23She just thought he was wondering, but he's aggravated.
- 4:27Then I see somebody comes down the opposite direction and zooms
- 4:31into that space that was 15 feet, and I see him banging on
- 4:35his steering wheel. Like he's so aggravated that
- 4:38they took the spot that he didn't see that he had all the
- 4:42time in the world to go get. And it just made me sit there
- 4:45and think, wow, what would have happened if he could have just
- 4:49paid attention and thought about that for for a bit of time and
- 4:53made a decision that said, hey, you know what?
- 4:55I can have that spot. I could have that spot if I
- 4:58wanted that spot, but I just didn't want that spot.
- 5:00And it really got me thinking and it really got me like blown
- 5:04away by the fact that like, wow, how did he not notice that spot?
- 5:08How did he not see it? Well, one, he wasn't being in
- 5:11the present moment, and two, he was very much in the space of
- 5:15being a, in his anger, in his emotion, rather than what he was
- 5:22looking for in his outcome. So because he was letting his
- 5:25emotion drive him, he missed his outcome.
- 5:27So where else does this show up? It's a really great question.
- 5:31And I can't say that I would have noticed this if I hadn't
- 5:34been in such a contemplative, deep state of staying in the
- 5:36moment. So there's also a lesson in
- 5:38that. So they're all coming at me this
- 5:41week, my friends, and I'm sharing them all with you.
- 5:43So I hope you all have a blessed day and I will see you all
- 5:46tomorrow. Bye.
