- 0:18back to banter with the boys fast laps where
- 0:21we got the dutch gp recap italian gp preview
- 0:28Mike, how's it going? Hi, what's going on? Welcome
- 0:31back. I'm back for another show. It's really
- 0:33good to have you. Some energy going on here.
- 0:34Yeah. You're back at work now. I am back at work
- 0:37again, unfortunately. How was your first day?
- 0:39Yeah, I was there. Wait, today was your first
- 0:41day? No, no, no. No, Friday was my first day.
- 0:43Oh, that's right. I came back and worked eight
- 0:45days and then went out for the weekend and then
- 0:48came back. That's so stupid. I hated that. That's
- 0:50right. I forgot about that. I worked yesterday
- 0:51for Labor Day, though. Time and a half, but hey,
- 0:53it was an easy 12 hours. At time and a half,
- 0:56though. But at time and a half, though. At night.
- 0:59You know what Labor and Labor Day means? Yes,
- 1:00sir. Right, right. I definitely put the labor
- 1:02in Labor Day. Hard labor. Okay. He puts the hard
- 1:07in Labor Day. Hard labor. Yeah, right. Hard labor.
- 1:09He puts the hard in Labor Day. No, not the hard
- 1:11in Labor Day. No, he puts the labor in the hard
- 1:14labor. God. Kev is behind the camera. Thanks,
- 1:17Kev. Kev is behind the camera. As always. This
- 1:19is off the rails. Joe. Hey, Schmelzi. How's it
- 1:22going? Do you have your mom waiting for you on
- 1:24the ready already? uh yeah actually dude i'm
- 1:27very fragile i feel this episode you know it's
- 1:31just yeah it's just it was a difficult race a
- 1:33lot of ups and downs a lot oh my god like the
- 1:35extreme up truly and like from like many teams
- 1:38i root for i'm like it was truly an emotional
- 1:40roller coaster i was watching alone because i
- 1:43i got up at 8 a .m i was watching alone yeah
- 1:45yep and i am uh yeah it was just it was i'm really
- 1:49look really looking forward to getting into it
- 1:51watching alone either i forgot i was gonna text
- 1:53you and tell you about a genius idea that i had
- 1:56where i was really hoping that we would go and
- 1:57talk about our teams and i was like you would
- 2:00start off by talking about mclaren popping off
- 2:02about mclaren has talking everything you got
- 2:04to do then we'd be like williams next and you'd
- 2:06be like anyways and you take your hat off and
- 2:07go put on the williams hat honestly i was like
- 2:10considering as like a form of What's the word?
- 2:14Solidarity for signs. Wearing the Williams hat
- 2:16today just because. And then Halban. Okay, we'll
- 2:19get into it. We're about to get into it. Kev,
- 2:21behind the camera, did I mention that? I don't
- 2:23know. If I did, he's still here. Don't worry
- 2:25about it. Kev, let's head right into our Dutch
- 2:28GP recap. Recap. yeah i was about to say welcome
- 2:42back to banter with the boys but you're already
- 2:44here here we go uh yes quality practice any notes
- 2:47on that i have joe's got so many notes i have
- 2:51like this like okay so i bring notes all the
- 2:54time typically practices take up like the top
- 2:57quarter i would say More than half of my first
- 3:02page is just from practice one and two. And then
- 3:05I get into a couple quali. So just to kind of
- 3:08get through it really quickly. Hamilton has a
- 3:11spin. FP1. Seatbelts now. Yeah, we should get
- 3:15seatbelts. We should buckle in. That'll make
- 3:17us look really professional. Anyway, sorry. Sorry,
- 3:19I'm going off the rails. Sorry. FP1, we see Hamilton
- 3:21has a spin but keeps it on track right before
- 3:23the first banking turn. Yuki spins after the
- 3:25DRS straight, slides through the gravel. Kimi
- 3:27Antonelli has a big understeer after a flat -out
- 3:29section. of s1 s1 sector sector one goes into
- 3:34the gravel and is beached there beached i love
- 3:37that term max after the session is over for a
- 3:40free practice one he he does a practice start
- 3:43locks up at turn one and then goes into the gravel
- 3:45and beaches it um really good in free practice
- 3:49one free practice two it was raining a little
- 3:52bit beforehand so cars are still on slicks but
- 3:54they're on a very slightly damp track stroll
- 3:56gets some crazy understeer going into the first
- 3:58banging instead of turning almost goes straight
- 4:00into the wall big crash restart an almost immediate
- 4:04yellow flag as hadjar loses power and is told
- 4:06to stop on track the virtual safety car comes
- 4:09out as they clear the track i don't think i've
- 4:10ever seen a vsc or maybe i've seen it once before
- 4:13this season where they have a vsc during a practice
- 4:16session so that's kind of interesting right it
- 4:19was like i think you're right i think because
- 4:20he parked well enough that they were able to
- 4:22take it off but they didn't want to just like
- 4:24red flag the session which is what they always
- 4:25do so that's kind of interesting to see it just
- 4:28meant no one like could take still nothing going
- 4:30on yeah um Hamilton spins again, but on a different
- 4:37part of the track, still keeping it out of the
- 4:39wall. This is a little foreshadowing. Albon goes
- 4:44off at turn one after locking up while braking
- 4:46late. He slides through the gravel and does bend
- 4:48his front wing, and then he gets beached trying
- 4:50to get out. While George is coming into the pit
- 4:53lane after the red flag, he starts crossing a
- 4:55McLaren garage, which Piastri just started to
- 4:58turn into, but suddenly he turned back into the
- 5:00fast lane to go to the second garage in the pit.
- 5:02turning directly into george and almost maybe
- 5:06even making contact there's a bit of wheel smoke
- 5:08as george breaks hard um the incident did get
- 5:11noted but nothing came of it and in fp3 alonzo
- 5:14dives into the pit lane on a fast lap uh the
- 5:16mercedes doesn't see this and starts edging into
- 5:18the pit lane in front almost colliding with him
- 5:20uh merc swerves over and alonzo breaks fast the
- 5:24merc retreating back to the track for another
- 5:25lap lando was fastest in all three practices
- 5:30All right. Those are just the practices. Poor
- 5:32Orlando. Yep. Kuali. Stroll spins off track into
- 5:37the gravel, hits the wall with his front wing
- 5:39in the final banking turn of Q1. What a stun.
- 5:41He does make it back to the pits, but he gets
- 5:44out of the car, does not come back out. Lando
- 5:46sets a record with 108 .874 in his first run
- 5:50in Q2. Lando now the new all -time lap record
- 5:54holder until Piastri takes the lap record with
- 5:58a 108 .662, his first Q3 lap. Lando only. 12
- 6:04,000 seconds off on his first in Q3. They do
- 6:07not get better than that. Piastri, Norris Verstappen.
- 6:12We're going to get into this as well, but while
- 6:15on the grid before race start, Hamilton under
- 6:17investigation for a yellow flag infringement.
- 6:20Yeah, and we can just talk about that yellow
- 6:22flag infringement real quick. Sure. That was
- 6:24during Quali. That was actually on their way
- 6:27to their grid spots before the race. Before the
- 6:29race. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And they
- 6:31had a double yellow at that last corner even.
- 6:33I can't remember why. There were people on the
- 6:36track. Okay. Like, still people that were standing
- 6:39on track in Hamilton came through double yellow
- 6:42flags or flat out. That's so crazy to do going
- 6:47to the grid. even the tifosi are mad at him and
- 6:51that says something because he's a ferrari driver
- 6:53why were people on i mean it doesn't matter it's
- 6:57it's what they do like they have people on track
- 6:59at the start because you know they start on their
- 7:00grid positions or whatever and like was he where
- 7:02was he going flat out do you know it was in sector
- 7:06three somewhere i don't know jeez okay it was
- 7:09clearly close enough that they felt that it was
- 7:11it was considered Highly dangerous for the people
- 7:14on track. And so he was handed a five place grid
- 7:17penalty. Yep. Did not affect that race because
- 7:20he ended up not finishing this race. So it will
- 7:22affect next race. Correct. So in. Monza. He'll
- 7:28have a five -place grid penalty. Monza. Ferrari
- 7:30will have a five -place grid penalty. The Tifosi
- 7:33are in shambles. I mean, after this race, shoot.
- 7:36Should we just start with Ferrari? Go for it.
- 7:39Start from the bottom? Go for it. You know what?
- 7:41Why don't we do this? If you're about it, you've
- 7:45done an amazing job on this document. Do you
- 7:48want to just bring in each team? i can do that
- 7:50sure go for it all right i mean ferrari just
- 7:53i mean straight up what a downright awful day
- 7:56i just read that yeah i i put at the end uh after
- 8:01kind of like just some notes here hamilton crashes
- 8:03hitting wet paint on the first banking um he
- 8:07messed up charles strategy he had just pit and
- 8:09then he gave everyone else free pits charles
- 8:12fell behind and then unfortunately Charles gets
- 8:15hit by rookie Antonelli. That's Hamilton. Yeah.
- 8:19Because Charles was driving the crap out of that
- 8:20car. He was driving the crap out of the car.
- 8:22They both get out of the car, end up on the dunes
- 8:24of Zandvoort. And then, yeah. And then I know
- 8:28that Hamilton gets the five grid place penalty.
- 8:29We learned that after the race. And then I put
- 8:31in parentheses, mama mia. It's all bad. Before
- 8:37they crash, obviously Hamilton was not locked
- 8:39in. this weekend he had a lot of issues throughout
- 8:42the weekend yep um leading up to the race so
- 8:45just a bad i don't know uh i don't know if that's
- 8:50normally a line he should be taking if he's maybe
- 8:52it was just poor judgment um some drivers were
- 8:55like did did note like or rather we did hear
- 8:57from commentators that like engineers were telling
- 9:00drivers that don't get on the paint because it's
- 9:02wet and it's slippery but that was probably after
- 9:04hamilton um I mean, they don't crash. Where do
- 9:10they place? How are they looking? Can they come
- 9:12back for Monza? They'll come back fine for Monza,
- 9:17I think. Well, Hamilton, I'm not sure. Hamilton
- 9:20was struggling a bit. through the weekend and
- 9:23kind of all day. Charles, I don't know, was having
- 9:25a great GP, though. I thought he was bound to
- 9:28have a podium finish. He kept getting close and
- 9:31close to Hadjar, but couldn't really make it
- 9:33stick. I think he would have battled for it,
- 9:35low -key, for me. I don't think the Ferraris
- 9:41are going to do great in Monza. They did get
- 9:45almost a 1 -2. Charles did finish first last
- 9:48year. He did. That was last year. That was last
- 9:50year. You just don't think the cars made any
- 9:52improvement? I think the car is different this
- 9:54year than it was last year. I guess I'll out
- 9:59myself in the fact that I've seen some people
- 10:02who are more technical -minded talking about
- 10:04the Ferrari and Monza for next week and are talking
- 10:07especially about Hamilton's five -place grid
- 10:09penalty. Which is huge. He is in a rough spot
- 10:12because... The Ferrari right now is not the fastest
- 10:17car in a straight line and is severely more draggy
- 10:21than other cars. And right now the Ferrari is
- 10:25performing better in high downforce tracks. Meanwhile,
- 10:29lower downforce tracks like Monza, where it's
- 10:34just all about speed, the Ferrari is struggling
- 10:37more. And so because of that, people are expecting
- 10:40that Ferrari are not going to do super great
- 10:42in Monza. So we have one, two, three, four, five,
- 10:46six, seven, eight, nine races left. Mercedes
- 10:50is 12 points behind Ferrari. Can Kimi do enough?
- 10:55We know George has been fairly consistent right
- 10:59now. So we're kind of counting George in points.
- 11:02We're kind of counting Charles in points. Is
- 11:04it kind of like a race between Hamilton and Kimi
- 11:06Antonelli to see who can kind of get enough points
- 11:10to put their team? second in the constructors.
- 11:13I mean, why not? I mean, 12 points is obtainable.
- 11:17Antonelli just has to, like, this is, you know,
- 11:20he's got to stop being a rookie, right? He's
- 11:23got to start driving just a little bit safer,
- 11:25and the car will kind of take him there a little
- 11:27bit. And Toto was like, hey, it's a learning
- 11:31year, is what he said of Antonelli's situation
- 11:35there with Charles. I mean, should we go into
- 11:38Mercedes, I guess? Yeah, I mean, the only other
- 11:39team, the team right before Mercedes, I guess
- 11:42not really. But actually, yeah, the team right
- 11:44before Mercedes would be Alpine. Yeah. Hey, actually.
- 11:53To be fair, Colapinto gained like another, other
- 11:56than the Lando thing. Ugh, rip. We'll get there.
- 12:00Other than the Lando thing, Colapinto gained
- 12:02another place at the end of the race. I mean,
- 12:04he was climbing. On the second half of that race.
- 12:07So it wasn't the worst thing in the world for
- 12:09me to see from him, to be honest with you. I
- 12:11actually thought it was a pretty good weekend
- 12:12for him. Yeah, might as well just, you know,
- 12:15I know before break I was calling for a change
- 12:18in the second seat. After that, just let him
- 12:20be. Just let him finish the season. Let's just
- 12:22see. You know, you guys signed him to a multi
- 12:25-year deal as a reserve driver for a reason.
- 12:28Just see. Just see what happens. You know what
- 12:30I mean? I thought the Alpines were... I mean,
- 12:34not great, but they're better than they have
- 12:36been this weekend. It wasn't the worst. performance
- 12:38that we've seen on them so it's still not the
- 12:40performance they want no points unfortunately
- 12:41yeah um but and i think it's possible ghastly
- 12:45maybe got caught out a little bit by ghastly
- 12:47also ended up only stopping once so i think it
- 12:50okay right they took a gamble on his strategy
- 12:52and it just didn't pan out yeah so is what oh
- 12:54yeah i do remember he was pretty uh he was like
- 12:57really really old tires at the end there is what
- 12:59it is for alpine but i'm not super negative yeah
- 13:01yeah you know so oh well um but yeah we can talk
- 13:04about we i mean since we just were we can talk
- 13:06about mercedes a little bit more um russell made
- 13:09up a single place he had a moment or two with
- 13:11charles during the race otherwise it was fairly
- 13:13fairly quiet for him well consistent i would
- 13:16say he made a place because of lando i believe
- 13:18so i mean he did i mean he did We can't hide
- 13:21that. Yeah, I mean, he had some battles, like
- 13:24some fighting with Charles, right? Oh, man, I
- 13:28loved that. The Charles and George fights, like,
- 13:31ooh, that got me excited. Oh, yeah, he was fighting
- 13:33against Hajar as well, and yeah, there were some
- 13:35fights with him, so definitely. what you said
- 13:40here about Kimmy. He will get better, but 16th
- 13:43is where he deserves to be this time around.
- 13:44Totally agree. Too many mistakes. That's exactly
- 13:48why I put it. I like the kid, but... I do, too.
- 13:51I think we have a great rookie class. I'm really
- 13:54excited for next season to see. I mean, yeah,
- 13:57new regs. It's going to be crazy, right? But
- 13:59really excited to see everybody's year, too,
- 14:02really. I like how as well the... Like, Charles
- 14:09Leclerc came out and said, I'm not upset about
- 14:11the accident. It was an accident. It happens.
- 14:15Mercedes came out. We're like, we're not upset
- 14:17with him. Ferrari came out. We're like, we're
- 14:19not upset with Kimi. He made a mistake. He's
- 14:21a rookie. It's going to happen. It's not the
- 14:23end of the world. We're not upset. And meanwhile,
- 14:25I've been seeing that the Tavosi are completely
- 14:28pitchforks and fires up ready. Well, it's because
- 14:31the whole weekend was trashed. That's why. Yeah,
- 14:34and I get it. It's better if Hamilton finishes
- 14:36somewhere. Right. Ideally in the top 10, probably
- 14:39top seven somewhere, right? ideally finishes
- 14:41up there. If he does, do you think they're just
- 14:43as frustrated? Yeah. I mean, Charles was driving
- 14:48the crap out of the car. He was running a blue
- 14:50-collar race for me and was succeeding at it.
- 14:55It's a shame. For where the car is. Let's talk
- 15:00about Haas. Are we on Haas? Haas or Sauber? He's
- 15:04just throwing it in there. We totally have a
- 15:06different... Actually, we should talk about Sauber
- 15:08really quick. I had no notes for Sauber. It was
- 15:13literally the only team that I didn't write anything
- 15:14for. They were just kind of stuck in the back.
- 15:18Gabby did okay. Gabby drove better than Nico
- 15:22did all weekend. Aside from that, it was just
- 15:25kind of a do -nothing weekend for them. I don't
- 15:27think this was a strong track for their car.
- 15:30It is what it is. It sucks that, you know, they
- 15:33fell behind Racing Bulls this weekend because
- 15:37of the big point haul. But, you know. Yeah, I
- 15:41mean. It is what it is. That Racing Bulls points
- 15:42isn't going to happen every week. And again,
- 15:45with, what did I say, nine races left? Who knows?
- 15:47Sauber's only nine points behind Racing Bulls.
- 15:50Right. So it's still very doable. It's still
- 15:52a fight for the midfield. So just take your lumps
- 15:54and move on to the next weekend. Yep. I'll have
- 15:57a really funny one when we get to quotes. I've
- 15:58got a really funny quote from Nico. The Haas
- 16:03dream. The Haas dream. Bearman from 20th to 6th.
- 16:09Bearman from the pit lane to 6th. Crazy. Sorry.
- 16:14Oh, sorry. We're sorry. I mean, insane, right?
- 16:21His best ever finish. Okan was there, too, and
- 16:24he got points. Okan got points. That's a double
- 16:26-point finish. Double -point finish. Double -point
- 16:29finish for the Haas team. That didn't make a
- 16:31huge difference. They're still in ninth. Only
- 16:34seven back is Sauber. But, yeah, they're fighting
- 16:37still. 24 ahead of Alpine. I feel like Haas is
- 16:43haunted by their one -lap pace right now. And
- 16:48they're just getting caught out in qualifying
- 16:52every weekend. But if we can see them qualify,
- 16:56then we could see maybe even more pace out of
- 17:00them. So I'm very excited. I've said it since
- 17:03the beginning. Watching Oliver race is so much
- 17:05fun. Watching that guy, it's awesome. Great strategy
- 17:09from Haas. Great drive from both drivers. Super
- 17:13great weekend. I'm super happy. They did great.
- 17:16Again, decked out in Haas for a reason. Decked
- 17:19out in Haas for a reason. Very usual. Another
- 17:23kind of comeback kid, Aston Martin. Out of nowhere.
- 17:28seven and eight they were late they looked great
- 17:29they looked really good all weekend long despite
- 17:33stroll crashing um they were quick they were
- 17:36like up there pretty much throughout each session
- 17:38um last two races have been okay for yeah so
- 17:42i'm curious with them being what is it there
- 17:45is that 18 points behind williams yeah uh now
- 17:48williams also got 10 points this week but If
- 17:51Williams can consistently finish, they should
- 17:53have fifth locked up. I think we talked about
- 17:54that before. But if they can't consistently finish
- 17:57well, Aston Racing Bulls can catch up. If Hulkenberg
- 18:04gets a podium, I don't know. It's a fight for
- 18:06fifth right now. As crazy as this is. Which I
- 18:09love, by the way. I love it. I love midfield
- 18:11fights. I love when there's a midfield fight.
- 18:14It's like a second race for sure. Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:17Yeah. So. about that oh oh williams right oh
- 18:24god yeah ask martin is catching them but williams
- 18:26is also on an upswing i think i think they have
- 18:29probably well carlos sign sucks whoa i'm just
- 18:32kidding stop the show there's i don't know how
- 18:35you don't see i don't know how you don't see
- 18:37that but whatever i'm about to throw my shoes
- 18:39i'm just kidding anyway this is my last pod this
- 18:42is my last um uh I mean, we can segue into Williams
- 18:47because, you know, you're right. They're fighting
- 18:49for fifth at the moment. Have fifth at the moment.
- 18:52I mean, signs before his moment with Liam Lawson,
- 18:55and I want to talk about that. And so we will.
- 18:59Signs are a decent weekend. Actually, we will
- 19:01talk about them next because I think we're into
- 19:03the top three at that point. Yeah, might as well.
- 19:06So, Williams. uh i mean signs was right next
- 19:11to albon before his incident like they could
- 19:13have gotten so many points and like sign said
- 19:15it perfectly it's like it seems every time i'm
- 19:17i'm like up for a good weekend with good points
- 19:19something happens and it's like yep i mean just
- 19:22unlucky af he got yeah it's it was unlucky albon
- 19:26however an amazing race 15th to 5th like just
- 19:30crazy driving from albon like insane right doing
- 19:35what doing everything he can with that car no
- 19:37williams had around i don't even see it he's
- 19:39not even a fan my crystal ball my my binoculars
- 19:42i said it last week i was like one of two drivers
- 19:44are going to finish in fifth it's going to be
- 19:46alonso or albon nice and then i watched both
- 19:50of them like qualify well outside of fifth i
- 19:52was like whoa this is going to age poorly and
- 19:54then it worked out overall it was a good race
- 19:58like there's a lot of switch ups you know um
- 20:01Yeah. Will they keep fifth in the constructors,
- 20:03you think? Man, so the problem is that I feel
- 20:06like, well, no, actually. Both Aston and Williams
- 20:09seem to have bad races and good races, and Williams
- 20:12just have had more good races. I think they can
- 20:15keep fifth. I want them to keep fifth. Obviously,
- 20:17my predictions want Aston, but I think Williams
- 20:21can do it. 18 points in the bottom field, in
- 20:25the bottom half of the field, 18 points. could
- 20:28be a stretch but you also i mean you also just
- 20:32need one really good race one really good race
- 20:35or one race for will one of the williams drivers
- 20:38to straight up not finish again or outside of
- 20:40points again if you can get both cars in the
- 20:42points you're making ground yeah and like i think
- 20:44we're past i'm personally past the the era maybe
- 20:48not the era i'm kind of past the moment of like
- 20:52Alonzo better than Stroll. Alonzo's the one.
- 20:55Stroll's driving that car just as hard as Alonzo
- 20:57is. He's just making more mistakes, I think.
- 20:59Stroll's actually had a solid year. He's had
- 21:02a good year. Do you have the drivers? He's 11th
- 21:05in drivers. He's two points ahead of Fernando
- 21:07Alonzo. For now. They're right there, though.
- 21:11They've both been battling. Still behind Nico.
- 21:13I'm not saying he's as good as Alonzo. I'm just
- 21:15saying they're driving the car kind of the same
- 21:18at the moment. I would hope you wouldn't say
- 21:19that. That'd be crazy. That's just kind of how
- 21:22that is. All right, let's talk about the moment
- 21:24really quick because we're getting into V -Car
- 21:26now. Go for it. I want to talk about the bad
- 21:30before we talk about the great. Yep. Liam Lawson.
- 21:32You dislike Liam Lawson a lot. I really disliked
- 21:35him this weekend. They had a moment, turn one.
- 21:41Liam cut up. He was ahead of the apex. Signs
- 21:44did get the penalty for not moving. It still
- 21:48was a move he didn't need to make. That's my
- 21:51argument. Signs, I think Signs also put it perfectly.
- 21:55I know I'm going to go against Liam because I
- 21:56really like Signs, but I just think it was an
- 21:58unneeded move. It was like he took a risky move
- 22:00that cost points where other drivers would not
- 22:03do that if they were in the same position, and
- 22:05he's done similar things throughout the rest
- 22:07of the season, and I agree with that. Lawson
- 22:09has made bad judgment calls before. Oh, we know.
- 22:13We know that. The stewards handed him the penalty.
- 22:15I thought I heard. I don't know if this was resolved.
- 22:18I thought I heard they refused to talk to Carlos
- 22:21after the race. Literally, he walked up to go
- 22:23talk to them, and they were like, we've got nothing
- 22:24to talk about. Yeah, that was crazy. Because
- 22:26he said right away. I think that was a comment.
- 22:28He said he wanted to go talk to the stewards.
- 22:31Right away. So my point of view, Lawson obviously
- 22:37drove into signs. But rules written, he was ahead
- 22:41of the apex. It was his line to take. Signs should
- 22:44have backed off, but it could have been done
- 22:47in just a much better way. Where neither of them
- 22:51got hurt, and Lawson could have gotten actual
- 22:53points if he just kind of gave him a little bit
- 22:56more space. Lawson was running okay as well.
- 22:57He was actually holding his own. My thing, my
- 23:01shtick on it is that technically, Liam did have...
- 23:07possession of the corner right it was his corner
- 23:09quote but my other big thing is that another
- 23:12huge argument between drivers and whatnot and
- 23:15fans and everyone else is race etiquette right
- 23:18and leaving room for the driver right like you
- 23:23can close the window but if that closing the
- 23:25window is going to result in an accident then
- 23:27leave some room you know and he had the entire
- 23:31track he had the traction he had the corner he
- 23:34could have taken a line on the inside given could
- 23:38have squeezed Carlos is fine but didn't need
- 23:41to literally squeeze him off of the track that's
- 23:44poor race etiquette it's just a rookie move he
- 23:47could have just taken the inside line taken the
- 23:49better traction stayed ahead of Carlos and then
- 23:52kind of forced Carlos into its suboptimal line
- 23:55and Carlos would have had to get on the brakes
- 23:56and then he could have kept Carlos behind that
- 23:59way saved both of their races but he didn't because
- 24:01he's arrogant and he said this is my corner and
- 24:04I'm going to take and cost both of them their
- 24:06race yeah and it's just poor race etiquette and
- 24:09i don't like this guy Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's
- 24:12quite obvious. I'd love to hear your take, Schmelze.
- 24:14I'm watching it again. I'm watching it again.
- 24:16Yeah, I'm watching it again. While you're watching
- 24:18it, yeah, just again, I agree with you. I think
- 24:20like, and you said it, racing etiquette versus
- 24:23rules. Yeah, you're right. Like, it's just unfortunate.
- 24:27While he's looking at it, 10 seconds was crazy.
- 24:31For a move he did not intentionally make. Yes,
- 24:33he, I mean, how can you give a guy 10 seconds
- 24:36for staying still, essentially? Listen, like,
- 24:39it's crazy. Give me the hat. Oh, he's getting
- 24:42the hat. This is almost not even a hat anymore.
- 24:45It's almost not even a hat anymore. Oh, man.
- 24:47How much of this is because of all of the talk
- 24:51about Carlos Sainz Sr. wanting to run against
- 24:54MBS and they're punishing Mr. Carlos Sainz Jr.?
- 25:01Wow. This is my real, this is the most tinfoil
- 25:05-y hat. Yeah. argument that i've made you had
- 25:08me completely lost until the until like the last
- 25:12bit there i mean like that punishing science
- 25:14junior for science senior so carlos ended up
- 25:17with a 10 second penalty yeah 10 seconds so okay
- 25:21and then also they refused they refused to talk
- 25:23to carlos afterwards so even more i knew that
- 25:26i remember that for sure sorry i'm just letting
- 25:30this play out one more time i'm just looking
- 25:32up as if I'm just looking to see if they ever.
- 25:36Ten seconds from now. No, bro. Yeah. Liam's wheel
- 25:40moves. I want to quote science. As he's riding
- 25:43up the track. Yeah. Which is natural science,
- 25:46right? But his wheel moves. I mean, no. No, I
- 25:50mean, Liam definitely makes the move up. Like,
- 25:52he tries cutting off signs. He just doesn't have
- 25:54any room. Like you said, he has the corner. But,
- 25:59yeah, he doesn't leave Carlos any room at all.
- 26:02Yeah. Zero. but he has yeah it's his corner that's
- 26:08crazy man i don't know 10 seconds for carlos
- 26:11on that is i don't like if it were a five second
- 26:14penalty i would have been like okay just whatever
- 26:16then it's just but that sucks but like yeah 10
- 26:18seconds is crazy yeah for uh for on tv a penalty
- 26:22that seems so cut and dry so cut and dry liam's
- 26:24fault initially yeah To see Carlos get, yeah,
- 26:28I mean, everyone was shocked. Everyone was upset.
- 26:31I have a quote from Carlos really quick. The
- 26:33most confusing part is that the FIA always tells
- 26:35us that doors are open to go and see the stewards
- 26:37and consult any type of doubt, but I just received
- 26:40a message that they would rather not talk to
- 26:42me right now. I don't know where this is coming
- 26:43from. Yeah, so just another, I mean, that is,
- 26:47that is, I mean, it's crazy. It's not the reason,
- 26:50I hope. We might have to make a short of just
- 26:53that and we're going to get banned. Yeah. The
- 26:56hat is back on. I'm telling you. This is a conspiracy.
- 27:04The look on his face when he said that. It's
- 27:07a conspiracy. Crazy. So better news. Let's talk
- 27:11about the great Isaac Hajar. Isaac Hajar. He
- 27:17did not do anything crazy. He just... Kept it
- 27:22on track. He kept it in his place, and he got
- 27:25rewarded with his best ever finish in F1 and
- 27:28a podium for V -Carb. Yep. That's Kev's boy,
- 27:31by the way. Kevin is celebrating behind the camera.
- 27:33Kev, your favorite driver? ESOC guy. Kev's rookie
- 27:37favorite driver. Yeah, I mean, yeah. ISAC, ESAC,
- 27:40whatever. HAJAR. I'll say HEJAR. I'll say HAJAR,
- 27:44rather. I'll say HAJAR. Just a crazy good...
- 27:47I said HIJAR because you kept saying ESAC, ISAC.
- 27:50It's just... I'm just going to say Isaac. Are
- 27:52you saying English right now? Hajar. I mean,
- 27:55honestly, I've said this already. Rookie of the
- 27:57year for me. Just from the get -go. Easily. Really
- 28:02good rookies this year. But Hajar has just been
- 28:05above and beyond, like, a good driver. Much deserved.
- 28:10Like, I'll let you kind of, like, gush a little
- 28:12bit about him because I know you have some stuff.
- 28:15Well, I was just going to say, like, the other
- 28:16major contender that people have for rookie of
- 28:18the year is Kimi Antonelli. And people would
- 28:21try and make the argument of, like, oh, well,
- 28:23Kimi got a podium in his rookie year. Well, now
- 28:26so did Isak. And so, like, that's two of them.
- 28:28So, right. So those are equal. So take out the
- 28:30podium. Kimi did it in a top field car. And Hazard
- 28:34did it in a V -carb. Which is true. Which is
- 28:38a midfield carb. Which is true. So that is so
- 28:41much more of a... Of an incredible performance
- 28:44out of him. He did it entirely on merit. Okay.
- 28:47He got the podium. 24 points ahead of Hajar too.
- 28:50He got. But again in a better car. In a better
- 28:52car. He got the podium. By happenstance. But
- 28:56he held. He qualified fourth. Handily. And held
- 29:00fourth. He did. He did. For the entire race.
- 29:03You gotta give him that. 100%. And he qualified
- 29:05only. Like. Less than a second off of. Or less
- 29:08than a tenth. I thought it was like a tenth off
- 29:10of Verstappen. Wasn't it? Like. Which is crazy.
- 29:14Like, master class drive. Yeah. Best drive. Mega
- 29:18drive. Not what I would have expected from the
- 29:20guy who we saw balling in Anthony Hamilton's
- 29:24arms. Well, and that's just it. Where he came
- 29:26from, he's continued to work his way up to now
- 29:30getting in a podium. Yes, if... We'll get to
- 29:34McLaren. If that doesn't happen, does he have
- 29:36a podium? Probably not. Probably not, right?
- 29:38But still, even if he would have finished P4,
- 29:41we would have been talking about him just the
- 29:42same. Like, this is crazy. And now even getting
- 29:44that first podium of the career, he's got the
- 29:47taste. Let's see what happens. Also, I just heard
- 29:51today as well that after this, currently SAC's
- 29:55average podium or current position, average position
- 29:58thus far in the season is 9 .2. So. He averages
- 30:03at least ninth every single race. Finishing?
- 30:07His finishing position is ninth. Average is nine.
- 30:11That's wild. Interesting. He is averaging in
- 30:15the points. Low point finishes, but when you
- 30:18consider that the top eight cars are typically
- 30:21going to be... Yeah, he's only finished 9th twice.
- 30:25Or no, I'm sorry, that's 10th. He's finished
- 30:269th once, but he's had a couple other good races.
- 30:29He's had a couple higher and he's had a couple
- 30:31lower, right? Montreal, Spain, you know. And
- 30:33now, obviously, the Dutch GP. Big win for him.
- 30:37So that is... That was my fun little news on
- 30:41him. Rookie of the year. Yeah, I think so. I
- 30:45mean, let's jump in. Let's kind of segue by saying
- 30:49this. There are two... red bull teams on the
- 30:52grid at the moment um one team though right joel
- 30:55sure there's uh a second seat that's always under
- 30:59contention always under contention uh in the
- 31:03red bull team um does hadjar uh sorry does isaac
- 31:09get looked at for the second seat does he get
- 31:12demoted to red bull a car that he says he's not
- 31:17ready for probably because he doesn't want to
- 31:18go to it because i think he knows he'll struggle
- 31:20getting used to it um it also begs the question
- 31:23is there this is crazy right is there ever a
- 31:28world they put max to test in the v -carb That
- 31:32would be wild. Yeah, I doubt it. I hope so. I
- 31:34hope that world exists. It's like a tinfoil hat
- 31:36moment. I won't put it on, but like. I hope that
- 31:38world exists. Yeah. Personally, I don't think
- 31:42Hazard's going in the seat this season. If it
- 31:44was, it'd be like last race this season, whatever.
- 31:46I agree. Not this season. Do you think he's more
- 31:49up for next season, though? I still don't think
- 31:53so. I still think. I made the argument last week,
- 31:56too. Lauren Mechies. Lauren Mechies wants stability.
- 31:59Lauren Mechies wants to give Yuki a real shot.
- 32:02Who was in points, too. And he was in points
- 32:06this weekend. So, like, I think his big deal
- 32:09is he's going to say, take your time, learn the
- 32:11car, continue to grow. We've seen too many drivers
- 32:14get promoted to Red Bull under Horner too fast.
- 32:19We see it happen with Albon, Gasly, not so much
- 32:25Perez. But then Lawson and now Tsunoda, where
- 32:29that second Red Bull seat is just chewing up
- 32:31every other driver. I don't think he wants to
- 32:34do that to Hajar. Do you want to see it this
- 32:35season or next season, Kev? Next season? Start
- 32:38of next 26, you want to see Isak Hajar in the
- 32:42seat. What I was going to say. That car will
- 32:47no longer really exist next season. He's saying
- 32:50if that car's a problem, it would no longer exist,
- 32:53so why not just throw him in there in 26? Okay.
- 32:58And that's just not as a fan of Hajar at all.
- 33:01That's just general. Yeah, unbiased. No, my contradiction
- 33:05to that, though, is why would you not just keep
- 33:06him in the car that he's currently more familiar
- 33:08with, which is the V -Carb, to let him get more
- 33:10experience? That's all part of Kev's plan. And
- 33:16let Yuki kind of trailblaze in that Red Bull
- 33:21and get that Red Bull ready for him so that when
- 33:23Hajar does get up to that team, he's not under
- 33:27the scrutiny of having to drive at a top -level
- 33:30team and have to learn and develop a new car
- 33:34because they're going to have to develop that
- 33:36new car next year. They're going to want benchmarks,
- 33:38and they won't have a benchmark for a driver
- 33:40who's never driven the car before. Who's never
- 33:41been on the varsity squad. I think it's worse
- 33:43for the team, and it's worse for Hajar. Oh, man.
- 33:45Do you want to know who's ultimately it's worse
- 33:47for, though? Yuki Tsunoda. Because he gets to
- 33:50sit in the worst car, like a car he can't drive,
- 33:53a car that he's losing to both the V -Carbs in
- 33:55currently. He's many, many, many points out.
- 33:58He's eight points away from Liam. 25 points away
- 34:04from Hadjar. That's crazy. Unfortunately, you
- 34:08might be signing his death sentence and sending
- 34:09him to Red Bull. I understand, though. I get
- 34:12it. They're going to have a ton of grace. It's
- 34:14a new regs, new car. It is a new regs, new car.
- 34:17It doesn't even matter if Max is going to do
- 34:18well on that car. True. If you don't hear, Kev
- 34:23just said Max is going to retire. That's true.
- 34:28Speaking of him, though, Sonota, he did get some
- 34:31points. He started in 12th. He came in 9th, so
- 34:33he did get a couple points. Good showing from
- 34:35him. Max at his home track. He was in 3rd pretty
- 34:39much the entire time. He got 2nd. He had a really
- 34:41good strategy just getting ahead. The opening
- 34:43corners were wild for him. The opening corners
- 34:44were good. He did what he set out to do, but
- 34:47he couldn't keep it, and I think he knew he couldn't
- 34:48keep it. We only heard car struggle comms from
- 34:53him near the end of the race. Overall, good showing
- 34:56from Max. I think P2 is truly the best that he
- 34:59would have expected anyway. I think P3 was probably
- 35:02the best he could have expected, but he got P2.
- 35:04You're going to take P2 when it's given to you.
- 35:06Yeah. That race start from him was freaking awesome,
- 35:10man. That was so cool. I was standing in my chair.
- 35:13I was like, what is happening right now? Legend.
- 35:16Yeah, it was crazy. And I think that's all we
- 35:18got, right, guys? We can probably... Yeah, we
- 35:21don't need to talk about McLaren. That's fine.
- 35:23Okay, well, let's talk about the great before
- 35:25we talk about the awful. Again, Piastri. race
- 35:30was in the bag right off the line um truly no
- 35:33point was he under any real pressure um norris
- 35:37if even if norris had not retired he likely would
- 35:39have still won i don't think norris would have
- 35:41caught him any day of the week piastri had that
- 35:43in the bag he was in first the entire time it
- 35:45was his race start to finish hats off to him
- 35:49his first ever grand slam yes well a grand slam
- 35:53he qualified first or he got pole position led
- 35:57every lap And had fastest lap. What's all that
- 36:01plus fastest in each practice? Is that like a
- 36:04Super Grand Slam? I don't think it has a name.
- 36:07The Grand Slam, Grand Slam. We should call it
- 36:09a Max Verstappen. It was a McLaren Super Grand
- 36:10Slam, so that's cool. True, yeah, that's true.
- 36:12All right. On lap 65, Lando says he smells smoke.
- 36:19We get a wide shot of the car, and we see it
- 36:21billowing from the back. Dude. He's told to stop.
- 36:25He gets out. He sits on the grass, and he puts
- 36:28his head in his hands. When you're sitting on
- 36:30the guardrail, that's what got me. Yeah. Like,
- 36:32oh, he's so sad. He is now 34 points away from
- 36:36Piastri, and I have to ask, this is like, I mean,
- 36:40there's nothing really else to talk about. He
- 36:42had a good race. It was just incredibly bad luck
- 36:47with the Mercedes power unit. So I have to ask
- 36:50just one single question. Actually, go ahead.
- 36:52Actually, I found out it was not the power unit.
- 36:54It was a chassis problem. McLaren released something
- 36:58saying that it was a problem with the chassis.
- 37:01That smoke from the engine? Right. I guess it
- 37:04was something like an oil leak from the chassis.
- 37:06I guess that's what I was hearing. I don't know.
- 37:08I heard today that it was a chassis problem was
- 37:11what they announced. I'm getting fact -checked
- 37:15right now. A problem on the chassis side. See?
- 37:16What? Chassis problem. That's what I was saying.
- 37:18I just heard today. McLaren takes blame for Landon
- 37:20North's Dutchie B failure with a problem on the
- 37:22chassis side rather than the failure of the car's
- 37:25Mercedes engine. Yeah. Gosh, that's crazy. I'm
- 37:30going to need an explanation video. From the
- 37:33chassis side issue. What? Yeah, I got no clue
- 37:38how that could happen. It looks like it should
- 37:40have been an engine problem. Oh, man. They want
- 37:43me to pay for this article. What is this? What
- 37:45do we got going on? They're not saying exactly
- 37:49what it is. They have not fully diagnosed it.
- 37:55Okay. It wasn't. Okay, so I will take out. It
- 37:59was not a Mercedes issue. It was a McLaren issue.
- 38:01This is the first problem for the team after
- 38:04a long run of faultless reliability. For literally
- 38:07years. But it just sucks. That sucks for Lando.
- 38:11Yeah. I don't think he's going to. I'm sorry.
- 38:14So that's the question I have to ask. Does this
- 38:17ruin Lando's championship run? Does it ruin Lando's
- 38:22championship run? It's done for me. Are we just
- 38:25watching Piastri take it home now? Yeah, I think
- 38:27so. Unfortunately. Good for him, but I was hoping
- 38:30for a battle. Sorry, go ahead. Somebody smarter
- 38:33than me did the math. So assuming that we continue
- 38:35to have the same results that we've had of a
- 38:37McLaren 1 -2 moving forward, it will take Lando
- 38:40five wins without Oscar getting another win for
- 38:44Lando to get ahead of Oscar if they're finishing
- 38:461 -2. Wait, wait, wait. So for Lando to get ahead
- 38:50of Oscar, if they're finishing one, two every
- 38:52single race, he has to win five races. That's
- 38:56pretty close, actually. That doesn't make sense
- 38:58to me. Oscar will need to come in second. Because
- 39:02it's a 25 -18 point difference, right? Correct.
- 39:04So that's seven points each race. Yeah, that's
- 39:0630 points. 35 points, yep. That's 35 points.
- 39:09That's actually way better odds. I'm bad at math.
- 39:13I was too. Keep in mind, that's how many he needs
- 39:17currently to get ahead of him. If he wants to
- 39:19get ahead of Oscar, he needs to win the next
- 39:21five in a row with Oscar coming in second to
- 39:23the next five in a row. He doesn't need to win
- 39:25the next five in a row. He doesn't have to win
- 39:26five races. What I'm saying is that if Oscar
- 39:30wins another race, that only pushes that even
- 39:32further. That's a good point. That only makes
- 39:34it even harder for him. That's a good point.
- 39:37For every win that Oscar gets from now on, that
- 39:41only multiplies, right? I see. Darn it. Because
- 39:46at this point, for every win that Oscar gets,
- 39:48Lando's going to need probably, what, close to
- 39:50two? Like 1 .5 wins for every win that Oscar
- 39:52gets? Yeah. Wee. Should collectively, you and
- 39:56me, should never do math again. I feel like I'm
- 40:00typically okay about it. He said someone else
- 40:04did the math for you. That is true. We're good.
- 40:08You immediately made me feel better and now I
- 40:11feel worse again. You're good. That in mind,
- 40:15knowing that it is still possible, he could pull
- 40:18it out. He got three wins in a row. It is possible.
- 40:23Incredibly unlikely. possible uh it's it's i
- 40:28think we're watching piaggio just cross the finish
- 40:30line man it is truly heartbreaking to know that
- 40:33we're probably not going to get a last race shootout
- 40:35between them yeah um and that Everyone will refer
- 40:41back to this race as to why Lando did not win.
- 40:46That's a really tough pill to swallow. I've got
- 40:51a feeling that that is going to really affect
- 40:53Lando mentally. Lando has to know this too. Lando
- 40:57needs to see all this stuff going on as well.
- 40:59He sees this. He knows it. Between the two drivers,
- 41:04he has the weaker mental. Yeah, I think I agree.
- 41:07And while it's... I'm hoping he knows that it's
- 41:12definitely not his fault, but I don't think that
- 41:15would help. I'm hoping it helps a little bit,
- 41:17but it shouldn't help fully because now he's
- 41:19blaming McLaren probably. I almost feel like
- 41:21it's worse that he knows that it's not his fault.
- 41:24It's not that he could have done better. Yeah,
- 41:25exactly, because he's like, well, it was out
- 41:27of my hands that I couldn't have done this, and
- 41:29that's even more depressing because I can't improve
- 41:32on something that's out of my hands. Okay, hear
- 41:34me out. Yep. Next race, McLaren sabotages Piastri's
- 41:38car. They get them close again so they can have
- 41:42a battle to the end. Do you need the hat for
- 41:44that? 100 % I needed it, but I already said it.
- 41:47It's already over. That's kind of rough. We might
- 41:52just be watching a Max Verstappen situation.
- 41:54We had a good run. It's been great. If anything's
- 42:00true, Norris is going to fight his ass off for
- 42:03the rest of the season. We'll at least get to
- 42:05see that. There's still a chance, too, that Oscar
- 42:07might have problems at some point. Oscar might
- 42:10not finish outside the points, and if Oscar finishes
- 42:12outside the points and Lando wins... Or DNFs.
- 42:14Bam. That's what I'm saying. That's outside the
- 42:16points. Even less than that, if Oscar finishes
- 42:18off the podium and Lando wins, that's a really
- 42:22good chunk of points. This is true. So there's
- 42:24a lot of things that are happening. There's still
- 42:26a lot of season left. Anything could happen,
- 42:28and it's been a crazy season. Man, you were more
- 42:30bummed than I am. I am really bummed. Obviously,
- 42:33I want to say... I would love to see Piastri
- 42:36win. I'm more than happy to see Piastri win,
- 42:41but I would have loved to see Lando push him.
- 42:44Does he deserve it first before Oscar? I don't
- 42:47want to think about that. I think I've already
- 42:52said they both deserve it equally. Yes, Lando's
- 42:54been in the car longer, but Piastri's turned
- 42:56into an amazing driver. equally deserving 10
- 43:03year aside I'm going to text him every day like
- 43:06curious if his answers changed at all you should
- 43:08who deserves it more Joe I probably will. All
- 43:11right, do your comm call -outs. Yeah, I do have
- 43:13some comm call -outs. Also, I totally forgot
- 43:15to bring this up when we were talking about Sauber.
- 43:18Gabby lost a bunch of positions right at the
- 43:19start, and I did write down that happened because
- 43:22he had an issue with his clutch, and so he did
- 43:24not get off the line like he was supposed to,
- 43:26and literally by the time he finally got his
- 43:28car rolling, he had already been overtaken by
- 43:29four cars. Yeah, he was straight stationary.
- 43:32Yeah, it was bad. Straight stationary. For fun
- 43:36quotes, for starters, Carlos, after his little
- 43:40incident, echoed exactly what I was thinking.
- 43:43He said, and I quote, this guy, it's always the
- 43:46same guy. It's funny when you add context of
- 43:51you thinking that all the time. He said it, and
- 43:55I was like, yes, Carlos, we're all thinking it.
- 43:58It's always the same guy. This was actually not
- 44:01advertised on the actual show. You could only
- 44:04hear this if you watched Nico's camera, but I
- 44:10saw this on a radio call out on the F1 YouTube
- 44:12channel that Nico said, and quote, I'm going
- 44:16to be driving like a grandma with these ones,
- 44:18talking about his tires. So, yeah, I guess he
- 44:23was having tire problems, and he was commenting
- 44:25that even he knew he was going to be driving
- 44:27slow. And that made me laugh. Awesome. I have
- 44:31none. Joe? I do have one. I had a few, but there's
- 44:34only one that I really want to state. This was
- 44:37from Kroon Chandak on Sky Sports, Lab 11. Norris
- 44:42has just dropped Verstappen like a hot potato.
- 44:44Yeah. Right when he overtook him and just bolted
- 44:48away. That was so funny. Killer. Do we have any
- 44:51quick thoughts before we head into the news?
- 44:54And our news is very, very short. Honestly, my
- 44:56quick thoughts was the Lando thing. Thoughts
- 44:58and prayers to Lando. And that McLaren's going
- 45:02to sabotage Lando's car. I mean, Oscar's car.
- 45:04Oscar's car. There it is. There it is. First
- 45:06from out of Joe's mouth. There it is. Kev, let's
- 45:08head right into our news. welcome back we got
- 45:21the news for you just a couple things uh we'll
- 45:24start with the caddy driver deal uh we'll be
- 45:27doing the tcp stands for testing of previous
- 45:29cars uh program in the ferraris yep that's interesting
- 45:32so they don't have they don't have a car right
- 45:34so correct the ferraris are giving them their
- 45:39SF23s. Good looks. Is that an SF? No, that's
- 45:43an SF21. My bad. They're giving Caddy SF23s while
- 45:48the Ferrari drivers will be using the SF24s.
- 45:51Got it. Using older cars. Getting them back in
- 45:56the cars, let's knock some rust off. I'm full
- 45:58Cadillac next year. And probably a little Mercedes.
- 46:02And of course, I will always be an Alpine fan,
- 46:04so there's my three. What was the other thing?
- 46:09Oh, yeah, Verstappen. He kind of comes out and
- 46:11admits that, quote, maybe I will not win another
- 46:13world championship. Just kind of accepting that
- 46:16as of late, accepting something that we already
- 46:20all know. Does that make him change his seat?
- 46:24After 26, who knows? We'll see. He's under contract
- 46:27through 28, I believe. That's a future me problem.
- 46:30If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand
- 46:31times. If he's changing seats, he's retiring.
- 46:34And that might be it. Because he also said with
- 46:37that, he also said he's accomplished more than
- 46:39he ever could have dreamed of in his career.
- 46:42Already. And dude's like what? Low 30s? Younger.
- 46:46He's younger than me. Is he 28? Okay, he's not
- 46:49even in his 30s yet. That's the second time today
- 46:51I did it in our other show. nfl show that i call
- 46:55the player like 30 he's like 29 like oh man that's
- 46:58a sin dude like i'm 30 so it's fine for me now
- 47:00but that's messed up like i can't call somebody
- 47:0230 and they're not even are you 30 mike uh in
- 47:05a week like oh my god damn all right the dirty
- 47:1030 next what day next week tuesday oh monday
- 47:13i do that text me on tuesday it's okay okay all
- 47:16right well that was that's all the way i had
- 47:18for news you guys got anything random to throw
- 47:20in there no No, I got nothing. I got no news.
- 47:24Okay. Okay. Well, Kev, let's head into our Italian
- 47:31GP number two preview. Electric Boogaloo. And
- 47:46I'm here to bring you up to speed for the Italian
- 47:49Grand Prix. We're looking forward to the Formula
- 47:52One Pirelli Grand Premio d 'Italia 2025. We're
- 47:56looking at clear weather with an average of about
- 47:5925 Celsius, 77 Fahrenheit. No rain looking for
- 48:04this weekend. Looking at a dry race. Fun fact.
- 48:08Fun fact. Monza has only missed one year on the
- 48:11calendar since the start of F1, and that was
- 48:13in 1960 when Imola played host and then right
- 48:18after joined the calendar alongside Monza. Very
- 48:22good. Now, getting into the race last year, starting
- 48:25grid was Lando to Oscar to George. Lights out
- 48:29and off the line. Lando leads Oscar up the straight
- 48:31with Russell straight behind. A good start from
- 48:33the McLaren pair as they approach the first turn,
- 48:36where Russell attempts to make a move on the
- 48:38outside, but hits dirt, has a moment, straightens
- 48:41out, and takes the runoff area, coming back on
- 48:43track behind both of the Ferraris and going side
- 48:46-by -side his teammate Lewis, who gets the job
- 48:48done on him shortly thereafter, Max overtaking
- 48:51him next. Still lap one, and on the next chicane,
- 48:54Oscar overtakes Lando, threw it on the outside.
- 48:58catching him, lacking a little bit, who has to
- 49:00slow down, give away to his teammate, putting
- 49:01him under major pressure from Leclerc, who takes
- 49:04another position away from Lando. Slightly down
- 49:06the order, Danny and Hulk have a moment through
- 49:08the upcoming turn, Danny ending up pushing Hulk
- 49:11off track for a moment and making slight contact.
- 49:13He picks up a five -second penalty. On lap five,
- 49:16Hulk attempts to make a late send on Yuki and
- 49:18instead locks up and slides into the side of
- 49:20him, both of them scrambling to get back on pace
- 49:21on track. Yuki does end up retiring after heading
- 49:24back to the pits. Lap 11, Russell's... day gets
- 49:27worse as the new caddy driver Perez makes the
- 49:29move for seventh on through the starting straight
- 49:31four laps later Lando is told to box to overtake
- 49:34Charles he makes a late move into the pit lane
- 49:36hitting the pit limiter box and almost speeding
- 49:38through it Charles pits on the next lap to try
- 49:41and stop the undercut but Lando makes it work
- 49:42and gets out just ahead of the monogast driver
- 49:44lap 18 and K -Mac forgets this isn't bumper cars
- 49:47he picks up a 10 second penalty for locking up
- 49:49and running into the side of Gasly Lap 31, Russell
- 49:53and Perez face off once more in the starting
- 49:55straight. Perez defending well as Russell tries
- 49:57to go on the inside, but soon runs out of room,
- 49:59retreating into the runoff and coming back on
- 50:00track ahead of Perez. He quickly gives the position
- 50:03back and tries to capitalize on being so close,
- 50:05but ultimately stays behind. Two laps later,
- 50:08Lando committed to the two -step, letting Charles
- 50:10through on ahead as he picks up some fresh slicks.
- 50:14Lap 38, and Russell is finally able to make the
- 50:16move, stick at T1 on Perez, nearly colliding
- 50:20into the back of the Red Bull on a very late
- 50:22move by Perez. Piastri pits for new tires on
- 50:25lap 39, letting the two Ferraris lead. A lap
- 50:27later, we hear that the new tires are not getting
- 50:29up as up to speed as they need to, matching times
- 50:33for the Ferraris who are going long on their
- 50:35one -stop parts. I wrote that, completely forgetting
- 50:38that this is the segment. On lap 45, Oscar is
- 50:41able to get the overtake done on Sainz for second.
- 50:43However, he is still almost 12 seconds from Leclerc
- 50:45with eight laps remaining. Three laps later,
- 50:48and Lando is able to crawl back into the podium
- 50:50places, taking the third spot. Meanwhile, Charles
- 50:52can... continues to fly in first, keeping it
- 50:54only five tenths slower than Piastri at lap.
- 50:56He makes his way across the checkered flag 2
- 50:59.3 seconds ahead of Piastri for an Italian victory.
- 51:02Our final is Leclerc to Piastri to Norris, Sainz,
- 51:05Hamilton, Verstappen, Russell, Perez, Albon,
- 51:08and Magnussen. Oh, there it is. Oh my goodness.
- 51:15That was a good one. That was a long one. Do
- 51:19you guys like Monza? I do like Bonzo. That's
- 51:21a fun one on the game. It is infuriating online
- 51:26for turn one. It's like one of the few tracks
- 51:31where I play online where I hope I start at the
- 51:34back of the pack because it's just every time
- 51:37you get to that corner and everyone just piles
- 51:39into each other every time. Before we close out
- 51:43the show, remind me, I had a video game question
- 51:45for you on F125. But, yeah, this is a fun one
- 51:49to race as well. Yeah, last year, you know, obviously
- 51:53we were just kind of looking up the highlights
- 51:56from last year as you were going along, trying
- 51:57to follow along a little bit. I forgot how aggressive
- 52:00the drivers were early on in this race. They
- 52:03just felt very aggressive. Everybody from all
- 52:06the way down. That's monster. So, yeah, I think
- 52:08it's going to be fun. I can't wait. Especially
- 52:12with how close these cars' performance are right
- 52:15now, all the entire grid. Like, there's going
- 52:17to be some crazy fighting going on this race.
- 52:20Hopefully some carnage. Carnage. Yeah, nice,
- 52:23nice. Predictions. Mike had a great week compared
- 52:30to Joe and I. Made a lot of ground. If it weren't
- 52:32for Lando, it would have been a flawless week.
- 52:34I spent the entire race looking at those three.
- 52:38I'm about to get six points. Oh, I got six points
- 52:41in the back. You would have had to lead. Yeah.
- 52:43Would that have been the first lead change of
- 52:46the season? It would have been my first sixer.
- 52:48Or at least for a long time. No offense, but
- 52:51man. Yeah, I think we've only had one, right?
- 52:55Two of my top three. dnf'd i'm in complete shambles
- 52:59that is that is tough so yeah that was rough
- 53:04i believe yeah i picked george to win that yeah
- 53:07you did that was so fun yeah so i am currently
- 53:11four points away from Smeltzy. She still leads
- 53:13with 40. Mike's one point behind with 39, and
- 53:16I am three points behind Mike with 36. Like Lando,
- 53:21my championship run is dwindling. I don't think
- 53:24so, though. We're so close. We're each getting
- 53:29at least a point every single week. It's hard
- 53:32to catch up. That's a good point. We're still
- 53:36starting with you, Smeltzy. I think that's BS.
- 53:39I think we need to start with Joe. You need the
- 53:44most help possible. That's why you should go
- 53:48first. Just trust me. Trust me. I'm good at math.
- 53:54You said you're bad at math, which means you
- 53:57shouldn't be good at this. Look, I'll help you
- 53:59right now. Just put George on your podium. Put
- 54:01George, Charles, and Hamilton. Nope, here it
- 54:06is. Here it is. One to three. Locking it in.
- 54:10Lando, Oscar, Charles. Okay. That's fine. Laugh
- 54:16at me. That's fine. Hey, man. Cool. Whatever.
- 54:20I think you were doing something special there.
- 54:21Can we make sure there's no sharp objects over
- 54:24next to Joe? Why? Starting in third, I'm putting
- 54:27Lando Norris. That's fine. Interesting. In second,
- 54:31I am putting Maxwell Verstappen. Okay. And Oscar's
- 54:34winning again. What you going to do, Joe? Got
- 54:39to take a risk. Might as well put George Russell
- 54:41at the worst. Yes! Oscar Landon Max. What the
- 54:45F? Charles is a crazy pull. I agree. I honestly
- 54:51think, man, going into this, I did want to put
- 54:59Charles, but since you're putting him, I'm just
- 55:02going to go Max. That does not track at all.
- 55:04I'll keep fighting Mike. You should have went
- 55:06Charles. Uh... I mean, come on. Oscar and Lando
- 55:10are still the fastest on the grid. Agree. That's
- 55:13why all three of us still have Oscar and Lando
- 55:15on our podium. Yeah. I don't think I'm ever not
- 55:17going to have them on the podium unless for some
- 55:18reason they just start dipping. For the rest
- 55:19of the season right now, I don't know. It would
- 55:21take something crazy to predict a DNF for one
- 55:24of the McLarens right now for the rest of the
- 55:26season, I think. That'd be crazy. I think I asked
- 55:28this when we were talking about Ferrari. Just
- 55:32a really quick thought. This is their home track.
- 55:38Do they show any ground here? Who? Ferrari. Well,
- 55:41yes. That's a good question. Are you locked in?
- 55:44I am locked in. I am locked in. What did you
- 55:46say? Does Ferrari show any ground here? Oh, I
- 55:48meant like your podium. You said Lando Oscar
- 55:50Charles? I said Oscar Lando Max. I said Lando
- 55:52Oscar Charles. Okay. Oscar Lando Max. No, I do
- 55:55not think. The McLaren or the Ferrari locks in.
- 55:58I don't know why I said McLaren. That's crazy.
- 56:00Yeah. Holy cow. I'm so tired. Um, I do not think
- 56:06the Ferrari is locked in. I brought up why earlier
- 56:08the car is just not suited to Monza right now.
- 56:10It's not suited to these low downforce tracks.
- 56:13Um, I've, I've been seeing that from other people
- 56:16who are more technically minded than I am. Uh,
- 56:19meanwhile, you look at, uh, The Red Bull is notoriously
- 56:25super fast in the straight and has been super
- 56:27fast in the straight. And McLaren's a rocket
- 56:30ship. I stand by the fact that Lando's mental
- 56:34is going to be hurt going into this race. Or
- 56:38is he going to be hungry? And I think that's
- 56:41going to affect him moving forward. And Oscar...
- 56:46Like, especially after seeing the way he was
- 56:48talking about the next race being Monza, I was
- 56:51like, oh, this guy is hungry for Monza. He likes
- 56:54Monza. Like, the moment I saw him this last weekend
- 56:58talk about it, I was like, oh, he's my number
- 57:00one for this weekend. That's an extremely boring
- 57:02take, but probably 100 % correct. You know what?
- 57:04You're a boring take. But probably 100 % correct.
- 57:06You know, that's just where we're at in the season
- 57:08right now. Yeah, it will be 100 % when I get
- 57:10six points. Hey, Kev, what's your podium? Six
- 57:12points. Kevin, what's your podium? Oscar Max
- 57:13Lando. Okay. and we're gonna wrap up i think
- 57:19kev do you like hold on he's cooking yeah wait
- 57:25yeah he's cooking he's cooking uh you said you
- 57:28had a video game question oh i did what was it
- 57:31oh yes okay so you always talk about how What
- 57:34would happen if Max Verstappen went into a racing
- 57:37bowl? Can you just set that up before you start
- 57:39a season? No. Really? That's dumb. If you could
- 57:42just move drivers around and start a season that
- 57:45way. You can probably mod it, but it's going
- 57:48to be completely unrealistic to real life because
- 57:50Sonota drives perfectly in the Red Bull on the
- 57:53game. Of course, but it won't. Damn, it doesn't
- 57:56allow you to move drivers around. No, like I
- 57:58said, you could probably mod the game to do it
- 58:00for you. I was just curious. I haven't looked
- 58:01into it. He could naturally move to V -Carb just
- 58:05through the AI movement and stuff, but it's pretty
- 58:07unlikely. It happens, yeah. In career simulations
- 58:11and whatnot, the drivers will change teams and
- 58:15stuff like that, and so it could happen that
- 58:17Max could just... somehow end up there i think
- 58:19even on the game he's more likely to retire the
- 58:21movie yeah yeah yeah no i was just curious if
- 58:24you could like set it up like a real deep custom
- 58:27season or career dynasty whatever the f game's
- 58:30not as good but yeah okay i was just curious
- 58:33i was just curious because i was like dude if
- 58:35you could do that might as well give it a test
- 58:36run sure just see what happens hey you know i
- 58:39want to put that on your plate joe but oh you
- 58:42know what You can actually drive as icons. You
- 58:45can drive as a driver. Like, you can be a driver
- 58:47in your career. So technically, you could. You'd
- 58:49have to drive through a whole season. Oh, you
- 58:51could be Max and leave. You'd have to drive through
- 58:52a whole season, but then you could leave and
- 58:54go to VCarb. So yes, you can do that. It'll just
- 58:56take a good amount of time. You have to do, like,
- 58:59a five -race season. And then by the time you
- 59:01get to season two, it sucks, right? You could
- 59:03just simulate every race. oh you'd also you'd
- 59:08also need to get approached by vcarb so it's
- 59:10a lot harder oh yeah that's tough they changed
- 59:12the contract system uh last year so it's a little
- 59:15harder to know what team you're going to Ask
- 59:19Joe about Ferrari. I don't want to talk about
- 59:21Ferrari. Anyway, Joe's mom's here to pick him
- 59:25up. We've got to wrap this thing up. Mike, thanks
- 59:28for being here. I'm so glad to be here. This
- 59:30was a super fun race and I was really looking
- 59:32forward to talking about this. While you were
- 59:34looking forward to talking about your six points
- 59:36that you didn't get. Almost. Sandvort. Until
- 59:40Isak messed that up. Joe? Smelty. Kev, thanks
- 59:49for being here, dog, behind the cameras, getting
- 59:51everything done. That's it, huh? Oh, yeah. Don't
- 59:57forget to like, comment, subscribe. Yeah. No.
- 59:59Yes. No. What? Yes. Are we here next week? I
- 1:00:02can't remember. Nope. I don't think so. We're
- 1:00:05not. We're not recapping stuff. I mean, so the
- 1:00:08next race is on the 20th. We'll talk about it.
- 1:00:11Fast Laps might be here. Otherwise, we'll just
- 1:00:13combine the episodes. More than likely, we'll
- 1:00:15be back on the 16th. We will 100 % be here on
- 1:00:18the 16th, no matter what. But next week, we might.
- 1:00:21Don't plan on it. No, anyway. If it's a crazy
- 1:00:30race at Monza, maybe we should do it next week.
- 1:00:32But we'll talk about it. Yeah, we'll figure it
- 1:00:34out. We'll let it marinate. Don't forget to like,
- 1:00:36comment, subscribe, wherever you listen to the
- 1:00:38banter, whether that's, what is it, YouTube,
- 1:00:40Spotify, Apple Podcast, or iHeartRadio. Yep,
- 1:00:45yep. Yep, yep. Just close her up. Yep. And that's
- 1:00:49an outro. And that's how you do an outro. There's
- 1:00:51no outros. We just... Don't forget to follow,
- 1:00:55like, and subscribe. Tune in next time for more
