- 0:00Speaker 1: And the Kraken, a power play goal.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Welcome to the Kraken Post Game Show, powered by the
- 0:06Speaker 2: iHeartRadio app, where you can hear the Kraken anytime, anywhere.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Now for an in-depth look at tonight's Kraken game. It's
- 0:14Speaker 2: the Kraken Post Game on the Global Credit Union Kraken
- 0:17Speaker 2: Audio Network.
- 0:20Speaker 3: For the final time tonight, welcome back inside of Climate
- 0:23Speaker 3: Pledge Arena. Al Kaniski, ice level ever fits you back upstairs.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Wasn't the Kraken's night tonight, partner. 6-2 loss for Seattle
- 0:31Speaker 3: to the Vegas Golden Knights as they unfortunately not able
- 0:35Speaker 3: to get to their first ever 3-1 start.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I mean, it got off early.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Kraken got beat by some unfortunate bounces in the first.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Second period, rather, was when it kind of all spiraled.
- 0:47Speaker 3: And then third period got rough. It got physical. This
- 0:50Speaker 3: is one of those games where I think if you're
- 0:53Speaker 3: the Kraken, you watch the film, you don't dwell on it.
- 0:56Speaker 3: You hop on the plane tomorrow morning and you go
- 0:58Speaker 3: out east with bright eyes and bushy tails and get
- 1:01Speaker 3: ready for Detroit Friday.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I think through the first half of the game,
- 1:03Speaker 4: a lot of the stats didn't look that bad.
- 1:06Speaker 1: In fact, some of them were in Seattle's favor. They
- 1:08Speaker 1: were out shooting.
- 1:09Speaker 4: They were out possessing the puck in the offensive end
- 1:12Speaker 4: of the ice. They just weren't capitalizing, and Vegas was.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Vegas was taking advantage of opportunities that Seattle wasn't, and
- 1:18Speaker 4: that was the difference. Certainly in the first period and
- 1:20Speaker 4: definitely through the first half of the game.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Kraken, a little sloppy today with the passing through the
- 1:26Speaker 3: neutral zone, not able really to get a whole lot
- 1:29Speaker 3: of stops defensively. Vegas making life very difficult at the
- 1:34Speaker 3: blue lines for Seattle. Through the neutral zone, what were
- 1:38Speaker 3: you seeing down there.
- 1:39Speaker 1: From your level?
- 1:40Speaker 4: Yeah, they were doing just that. They were taking away
- 1:42Speaker 4: kind of that area between the red line and the
- 1:44Speaker 4: offensive blue line that you're attacking defensively. And when you
- 1:47Speaker 4: stack up five guys in that area, it's tough to
- 1:49Speaker 4: get through there with speed. And Seattle wasn't adjusting by
- 1:53Speaker 4: getting the puck in deep and beating Vegas defensemen to
- 1:56Speaker 4: those pucks. So they were doing a good job stopping
- 1:59Speaker 4: that offense off the rush that Seattle was trying to generate.
- 2:03Speaker 3: What were you seeing down there as far as the
- 2:08Speaker 3: body language, as far as how the Kraken were reacting
- 2:13Speaker 3: to this game as it went on?
- 2:14Speaker 4: Well, I think any time you give up those first
- 2:16Speaker 4: goals against in your own building, you know, you're frustrated
- 2:20Speaker 4: and you want to get those back. I wouldn't say
- 2:23Speaker 4: that after the first goal or the second goal, there
- 2:25Speaker 4: were chins down in the jersey type of thing. But,
- 2:27Speaker 4: you know, you're frustrated because you want those first goals,
- 2:30Speaker 4: and then obviously giving up three in the second, it
- 2:32Speaker 4: was too little too late at that point to mount
- 2:34Speaker 4: a comeback. So, yeah, the body language turned sour pretty
- 2:38Speaker 4: quick on the bench up, certainly in the second period.
- 2:41Speaker 3: As a player, and this will wrap up here on
- 2:43Speaker 3: this one, as a player, how do you flush this one?
- 2:45Speaker 3: I mean, is it as easy as just tomorrow night,
- 2:48Speaker 3: we're hopping on the bird, going off to Detroit, or
- 2:50Speaker 3: is there something more that goes into flushing a game
- 2:54Speaker 3: like that?
- 2:54Speaker 4: Well, you've played two teams in Calgary that are probably
- 2:57Speaker 4: going to be at the bottom of the league, and
- 2:58Speaker 4: you've beat them twice, and you've played two teams that
- 3:01Speaker 4: are probably going to be at the top of the
- 3:02Speaker 4: league in Edmonton and Vegas, and they're two very different games,
- 3:06Speaker 4: and if you're going to compete with the Edmontons and
- 3:09Speaker 4: the Vegases in this league, you've got to adjust. You've
- 3:12Speaker 4: got to not make mistakes. You can't be sloppy. You
- 3:16Speaker 4: can afford to be a little sloppy against a Calgary
- 3:18Speaker 4: team because they don't make you pay quite as much
- 3:20Speaker 4: as Edmonton or Vegas might do, so If you take
- 3:23Speaker 4: anything away from it, that's what I would take away.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Kraken Falls 6-2 in the finale of this brief two-game homestand.
- 3:29Speaker 3: They took down the Flames a couple of nights ago
- 3:32Speaker 3: in the home opener 6-1.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Lose here tonight 6-2. Al, wrap us up. Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Key takeaways for me were the three things we talked about. Sloppiness,
- 3:39Speaker 4: certainly in the first period, a little too much of it,
- 3:41Speaker 4: but it continued throughout the game. Vegas taking advantage of
- 3:45Speaker 4: their opportunities, going one for two on their power plays.
- 3:48Speaker 4: in the first period, and not until late was Seattle
- 3:51Speaker 4: able to capitalize on their power plays. And then giving
- 3:53Speaker 4: up that first and second goal, always huge in the
- 3:56Speaker 4: first period. If you give up the first one, okay,
- 3:58Speaker 4: that's fine. You can battle back, but giving up two
- 4:00Speaker 4: and going down 2-0 in the first period, that was difficult.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Three stars tonight, Mama K's three stars. Third star goes
- 4:07Speaker 4: to Victor Olsen. He had two goals tonight. Unfortunately left
- 4:11Speaker 4: the game after a hit from Ben Myers. Second star
- 4:14Speaker 4: of the game, Goes to Jack Eichel. He had a
- 4:16Speaker 4: goal and three assists on a four-point night. And first
- 4:19Speaker 4: star of the night goes to Tamash Hartle. He had
- 4:21Speaker 4: two goals and two assists for a four-point night. Three
- 4:24Speaker 4: stars of the game brought to you by AAA of Washington,
- 4:26Speaker 4: who give you triple the savings, triple the adventures, and

- 4:37Speaker 3: Crack and fall by a 6-2 score. Regrouping on Friday
- 4:41Speaker 3: in Motown. as they begin a five-game road trip out east.
- 4:46Speaker 3: For Al, I'm Everett Solong from CPA. For now, we
- 4:50Speaker 3: go down to Mike Benson, who will take you home
- 4:52Speaker 3: the rest of the way.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Yeah, safe flight, guys. Appreciate you. And the feeling is
- 4:56Speaker 5: maybe that the Kraken walk away a little more grounded
- 4:58Speaker 5: based on the first two periods. But the hope is
- 5:01Speaker 5: that maybe they walk away also a little bit fired
- 5:04Speaker 5: up just based on how events unfolded emotionally. But there's
- 5:08Speaker 5: also hope that Ryan Lindgren is going to be okay
- 5:10Speaker 5: and his injury isn't too serious again. He was knocked
- 5:13Speaker 5: out of action after the first period with an upper
- 5:15Speaker 5: body ailment. And for the Kraken... a challenge to manage
- 5:18Speaker 5: a shorthanded group of defensemen for the rest of the
- 5:20Speaker 5: entire evening. They get two on the board in period three,
- 5:23Speaker 5: but unfortunately too late. The hourglass runs out, and the
- 5:27Speaker 5: final score, Vegas 6 and the Kraken 2. Again, glad
- 5:30Speaker 5: you're with us. Mike Benton with you across the street
- 5:33Speaker 5: at Tom's Watch Bar. We have highlights coming up, plus
- 5:36Speaker 5: our scores, more reaction from downstairs later on, plus your reaction.

- 8:11Speaker 5: tickets for more information. Well, as far as this one
- 8:14Speaker 5: was concerned, a bit of a tough one here from
- 8:16Speaker 5: the Kraken out of the gate as they fall 6-2
- 8:18Speaker 5: to the Vegas Golden Knights and take away a few
- 8:21Speaker 5: lessons heading into the five-game road trip opening up Friday.
- 8:24Speaker 5: And their record now 2-2 on the very young season.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Vegas improving to 3-1 as they were helped out this
- 8:32Speaker 5: evening on a four-point night by Jack Eichel. The Kraken
- 8:35Speaker 5: did get a couple on the board in period three.
- 8:38Speaker 5: Also in a final 20-minute frame where It turned a
- 8:41Speaker 5: little emotional and physical as well. We'll tell you more
- 8:44Speaker 5: about it right now and much more here coming up
- 8:47Speaker 5: for postgame coverage. This Seattle Kraken Drive to the Net
- 8:49Speaker 5: scoring recap is brought to you by Toyota of Kirkland.

- 9:01Speaker 5: us out at toyotaofkirkland.com. The Kraken, a great chance to
- 9:06Speaker 5: get on the board with an early power play, but
- 9:08Speaker 5: that fell by the wayside, and Vegas eventually capitalizing for
- 9:11Speaker 5: a 1-0 lead on Victor Olofsson's first of two goals
- 9:14Speaker 5: on the night at 13.02. Rasmus Andersen, Tomasz Hertel had
- 9:19Speaker 5: the assist on the play, and then Hertel knocking in
- 9:22Speaker 5: a backdoor feed at 15.58 for a power play goal
- 9:25Speaker 5: from Mark Stone. Hertel's second of the year from Stone,
- 9:28Speaker 5: and Jack Eichel Made it 2-0 at the end of
- 9:32Speaker 5: one period of play, and the Kraken certainly had some
- 9:35Speaker 5: work to do. Yet right here, the Kraken a great
- 9:38Speaker 5: chance in the second to get back in the game,
- 9:40Speaker 5: but what happens when you give open ice to Jack Eichel?
- 9:44Speaker 3: Now Stone over to Eichel, two on one, shorthanded. Eichel
- 9:47Speaker 3: right side across the stone, he scores. A very unfortunate
- 9:55Speaker 3: play for Seattle, a broken stick by Montour.
- 10:00Speaker 1: On the shot. Two on one.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Eichel and Stone.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Probably the last guys you want to see coming down
- 10:07Speaker 3: on you. And the Golden Knights off to a 3-0
- 10:11Speaker 3: lead early here in this second period.
- 10:14Speaker 5: That was off of Nick Dowd's holding penalty, just 17
- 10:18Speaker 5: seconds into the second. The crack had a great chance
- 10:20Speaker 5: to slice the Vegas lead in half, but just a tough,
- 10:23Speaker 5: unfortunate break for Brandon Montour. His point shot had his
- 10:26Speaker 5: stick basically explode into two. Nothing he could do but
- 10:29Speaker 5: just get back and try to defend, and eventually it
- 10:32Speaker 5: was Eichel finding Mark Stone open, left circle, parking a
- 10:35Speaker 5: shorthanded goal past Joey Decourt's blocker at 143-145. to make
- 10:41Speaker 5: it 3-0. Vegas tacking on two more. Victor Olofsson getting
- 10:44Speaker 5: his second of the night at 13.07 from Hurdle and Connelly.
- 10:48Speaker 5: And then Vegas made it 5-0 at 19.29 of the
- 10:51Speaker 5: second on a Jack Eichel breakaway, leading the Kraken into
- 10:55Speaker 5: the intermission, trying to look for answers to get something going.
- 10:59Speaker 5: And they had one mission in period three, wipe the
- 11:02Speaker 5: slate clean. And what could Shane Wright do as far
- 11:05Speaker 5: as making the best out of that situation?
- 11:07Speaker 3: Here come the Kraken, Kapo Kakko, left wing entry to
- 11:10Speaker 3: the high.
- 11:10Speaker 10: Slot, Shane Wright scores!
- 11:19Speaker 5: Shane Wright breaks.
- 11:20Speaker 3: The shutout, and the Seattle Kraken.
- 11:23Speaker 1: On the board.
- 11:24Speaker 3: It's a 5-1 Golden Knights lead with 15.08 to play
- 11:28Speaker 3: in the period.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Kapokako gets a great feed in stride down that
- 11:32Speaker 2: left side. He's a left shot, so he's got all
- 11:35Speaker 2: kinds of passing lanes to his right. He finds Shane
- 11:38Speaker 2: Wright coming high in the slot, and Wright beats Carter Hart,
- 11:41Speaker 2: glove side, under the bar, breaks that shutout.
- 11:44Speaker 3: 5-1 Vegas.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Goals and back-to-back games for Shane Wright. That coming at
- 11:50Speaker 5: 4.52 from Kapo Kako and Kale Fleury. Then things turn
- 11:53Speaker 5: a bit physical and emotional as well. After Ben Myers
- 11:58Speaker 5: hit Victor Olofsson into the numbers, Myers was given a
- 12:01Speaker 5: five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct. Vegas in capitalizing
- 12:05Speaker 5: on the five-minute major power play. Tomasz Hertel's second goal
- 12:09Speaker 5: of the night and third of the season made it
- 12:11Speaker 5: 6-1 at 9.43 from Barbashev and Eichel. But then after that,
- 12:16Speaker 5: Jared McCann looking to jump into the act on the
- 12:19Speaker 5: man advantage.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Eberle below the goal line. McCann scores!
- 12:30Speaker 3: Jared McCann gets his first goal of the season.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Left side on the power play. Kraken back down four.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Six to two.
- 12:38Speaker 5: Five minutes left here in the third.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Jordan Eberle where he likes to work on the power
- 12:43Speaker 2: play which is down below the goal line. Finds Jared
- 12:46Speaker 2: McCann on.
- 12:46Speaker 1: That left side.
- 12:47Speaker 2: He beats Carter Hart. Short side over the blocker. Six
- 12:51Speaker 2: to Vegas.
- 12:53Speaker 5: So Jared McCann's on the board for the season, his
- 12:56Speaker 5: first coming with five minutes left in regulation on the
- 12:59Speaker 5: power play. Jordan Eberle, Kapokako with the assist. More scrapping
- 13:04Speaker 5: going on after that. Ryan Winterton fighting Mark Gatcombe. All
- 13:07Speaker 5: to wrap up a third period where it was pretty eventful.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Three goals combined for the two teams, plus also for
- 13:14Speaker 5: the game, 65 minutes in penalties. 55 of them occurred
- 13:18Speaker 5: in a rough third period. Eventually, it wound up final score,
- 13:22Speaker 5: Vegas 6 and the Kraken 2 as, don't forget, These
- 13:26Speaker 5: two teams will square off once again three more times
- 13:29Speaker 5: here in this regular season. That should be pretty interesting.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Final shots on net, 28-27 Vegas. They go 2 of
- 13:36Speaker 5: 5 in the power play. The Kraken go 1 for 5.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Win in net goes to Carter Hart, the former Silver Tip,
- 13:41Speaker 5: turning in a 25-save effort. Joey Decord, who was yanked
- 13:45Speaker 5: after the second period, takes the loss. Five goals on
- 13:48Speaker 5: 21 shots. Phillip Grubauer turning in a 6-save effort. in
- 13:52Speaker 5: the third. Time now for the Coors Light chillest moments
- 13:55Speaker 5: of the game. Kraken fans, reminder, you can win your
- 13:58Speaker 5: chance to sit in the Coors Light silver seats. Go
- 14:00Speaker 5: to CoorsLight.com forward slash Seattle Kraken to enter. Must be
- 14:05Speaker 5: 21 years of age, no purchase necessary. Coors Light, choose chill,
- 14:09Speaker 5: celebrate responsibly. First moment was a fellow Grubauer save early
- 14:14Speaker 5: in the third where the Kraken were looking for maybe
- 14:16Speaker 5: a spark out of their own goaltender, a new one
- 14:19Speaker 5: to get things going in the right direction after Joey
- 14:21Speaker 5: DeCord went through a tough night. We then move forward
- 14:24Speaker 5: here to Brandon Montour dropping the mitts for the Vegas captain.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Montour just wiggled his gloves at him. We'll see if
- 14:33Speaker 1: they go. Here's Montour. Now they're going to go.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Montour, Mark Stone, right circle inside of Kraken territory.
- 14:43Speaker 5: Gloves and sticks are down.
- 14:44Speaker 1: They'll size each other up. Mark Stone. Reaches first.
- 14:48Speaker 11: Montour grabs him. Two strong rights over top of the head.
- 14:52Speaker 11: Now they jostle at one another. Mark Stone has one.
- 14:55Speaker 11: Now Montour another strong right hand. Mark Stone counters with
- 14:59Speaker 11: a right of his own. Montour trying to grab his footing.
- 15:01Speaker 1: He does.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Keeps him at arm's length.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Stone over top of the head. Too strong from Montour.
- 15:08Speaker 1: And then Mark Stone.
- 15:09Speaker 6: Will catch him.
- 15:10Speaker 11: And then they'll take each other down.
- 15:11Speaker 12: To the ground.
- 15:12Speaker 5: It was just a minute 18 after the Myers hit
- 15:14Speaker 5: on Olofsson. So that was only a precursor to more
- 15:18Speaker 5: Mess going on for the third period because, again, we
- 15:20Speaker 5: mentioned backtracking. Ben Myers hit Victor Olofsson along the numbers.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Vegason was giving a five-minute power play for boarding, and
- 15:28Speaker 5: yet that fight happened off the faceoff during that power play.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Montour was out, but certainly it lit a fuse, and
- 15:34Speaker 5: the Kraken trying to, at least from what we saw,
- 15:37Speaker 5: make a pretty emotional statement with this one heading right
- 15:40Speaker 5: down to the very finish. The Montour out left the
- 15:42Speaker 5: Kraken down to four defensemen for the remainder of the
- 15:45Speaker 5: game after that. Again, final score, Vegas 6 and the
- 15:49Speaker 5: Kraken 2. Time now for the big win brought to
- 15:51Speaker 5: you by the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling. To Toronto
- 15:55Speaker 5: we go. And Gavin McKenna had gone three games without
- 16:00Speaker 5: a goal, looking for his first in the NHL. And
- 16:02Speaker 5: the hockey world wondering, when's that first one going to come?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Some pressure here on Austin Matthews. Getting it back up.
- 16:10Speaker 11: McKenna rips it.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Scores.
- 16:13Speaker 13: Gavin McKenna.
- 16:15Speaker 14: Blue and Whitehorse on the board.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Todd Crocker had the call on Sportsnet 590. The fan
- 16:23Speaker 5: in Toronto with Gavin McKenna on the board. First career
- 16:27Speaker 5: NHL goal. That was a part of a 5-4 overtime
- 16:30Speaker 5: win for the Leafs. Austin Matthews had the game-winning goal
- 16:34Speaker 5: again in sudden-death overtime as the Leafs victorious in sudden-death overtime.
- 16:40Speaker 5: Gavin McKenna a part of that, scoring his first career
- 16:43Speaker 5: goal NHL goal, your final score, Maple Leafs 5, Nashville
- 16:48Speaker 5: 4 in overtime. The Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling wants

- 24:58Speaker 3: Shane Wright breaks the shutout, and the Seattle Kraken.
- 25:03Speaker 1: On the board.
- 25:03Speaker 3: It's a 5-1 Golden Knights lead with 15.08 to play
- 25:08Speaker 3: in the period.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Kapokako gets a great feed in stride down that
- 25:11Speaker 2: left side.
- 25:12Speaker 1: He's a left shot, so he's got all kinds of
- 25:15Speaker 1: passing lanes to his right.
- 25:17Speaker 2: He finds Shane Wright coming high in the slot, and
- 25:19Speaker 2: Wright beats Carter Hart, glove side, under the bar, breaks
- 25:23Speaker 2: that shutout.
- 25:23Speaker 1: 5-1 Vegas.
- 25:25Speaker 5: Some late game production out of Shane Wright despite a
- 25:28Speaker 5: footnote here for a game that got away early here
- 25:31Speaker 5: from the Kraken. And Shane Wright's goal is our McDelivery

- 26:17Speaker 5: Let's go places. So that five-game trip opens up Friday
- 26:21Speaker 5: when the Kraken will see the Detroit Red Wings, who
- 26:23Speaker 5: won earlier today. It is the only time they will
- 26:26Speaker 5: visit Little Caesars Arena, and Everett Fitzhugh gets a taste
- 26:29Speaker 5: of his old stomping grounds once again. And then after that,
- 26:33Speaker 5: the Kraken on to Washington, D.C., then to Philadelphia, Tampa Bay,
- 26:38Speaker 5: and Florida as well, where they're trying to capitalize on
- 26:41Speaker 5: some production, just like last year against Eastern Conference teams.
- 26:45Speaker 5: They went 12, 11, and 9 against teams out of
- 26:48Speaker 5: the east. And looking at this point here, beginning a
- 26:51Speaker 5: five-game trip to see if that can help reverse some
- 26:54Speaker 5: trends that they saw pop up this evening in this
- 26:57Speaker 5: game against Vegas. Our next broadcast comes your way Friday. Again,
- 27:01Speaker 5: that's with a crack and take on the Red Wings.

- 31:36Speaker 5: night for the Kraken. They fall 6-2 for the Vegas
- 31:39Speaker 5: Golden Knights. Mike Benton with you. This show is about
- 31:42Speaker 5: your reaction. Again, so text us right now, 49451. On
- 31:46Speaker 5: the Tacoma Dodge text line again, 49451 Tacoma Dodge Chrysler
- 31:50Speaker 5: Jeep ran by the corner of 38th and South Tacoma Way,
- 31:53Speaker 5: the intersection of Savings. I want to hear from you
- 31:57Speaker 5: what your level of concern is from this game on
- 31:59Speaker 5: a scale of 1 to 10. Text us 49451. We'll
- 32:03Speaker 5: get to your reaction soon. Also, we will be joined
- 32:06Speaker 5: momentarily by Ian Furness over the phone as he had
- 32:09Speaker 5: the TV call for tonight's game, and we're also looking
- 32:12Speaker 5: to hear from Lane Lambert coming up in just a bit. Again,
- 32:17Speaker 5: you go through this game and you factor in the
- 32:19Speaker 5: fact that you're facing a Vegas Golden Knights team that
- 32:22Speaker 5: is on a different level as compared to the Calgary Flames.
- 32:25Speaker 5: That was to be expected. And taking away a 2-1
- 32:27Speaker 5: record from three games shows that there is some improvement
- 32:31Speaker 5: from the Kraken's side from a level of skill. But
- 32:34Speaker 5: when you have to level up against a Vegas team
- 32:36Speaker 5: that is very seasoned, last year won the Western Conference Championship,
- 32:40Speaker 5: it shows that the demands are there to level up
- 32:43Speaker 5: your game as well. And the Kraken had issues for
- 32:46Speaker 5: virtually the entire night trying to avoid playing disconnected. And
- 32:50Speaker 5: maybe the first inkling of this was in the first
- 32:53Speaker 5: few seconds when they had a great chance to make
- 32:56Speaker 5: a statement. Mark Gatcombe went off two minutes for boring,
- 32:59Speaker 5: 15 seconds into the game. The power play, which had
- 33:02Speaker 5: looked terrific in the preseason and had looked also pretty
- 33:06Speaker 5: formidable in the regular season, well, they really couldn't get
- 33:09Speaker 5: much going. And from there, A disconnected result. No shots
- 33:14Speaker 5: on goal as well. And Vegas, you could kind of
- 33:17Speaker 5: feel begin to slowly turn the dial back the other way.
- 33:21Speaker 5: And by the end of period one, they had built
- 33:24Speaker 5: a two nothing lead where when you're facing a Vegas team,
- 33:26Speaker 5: it was that seasoned. The odds are stacked against you
- 33:29Speaker 5: to fight back. But fight was also a big part
- 33:32Speaker 5: of this game and a game that had gotten way
- 33:35Speaker 5: out of hand on the scoreboard. The Kraken showed that
- 33:38Speaker 5: they wanted to kind of hang in this thing from
- 33:39Speaker 5: an emotional standpoint. And as we said, usually hockey players
- 33:43Speaker 5: have long memories. Don't forget there are more games coming
- 33:46Speaker 5: up here for these two teams. Next game that you
- 33:50Speaker 5: might ask, coming up in Vegas. Well, look at this.
- 33:54Speaker 5: You will have these two teams squaring off down the
- 33:57Speaker 5: road once again on January 9th and then two more
- 34:00Speaker 5: games as well in March. Should the Kraken maybe file
- 34:04Speaker 5: this one away? Does Vegas file this one as well
- 34:07Speaker 5: from the Ben Myers hit on Victor Olofsson? Time will
- 34:10Speaker 5: certainly tell, but don't discount the fact about memory banks
- 34:16Speaker 5: within hockey players and their brains, and we saw some
- 34:20Speaker 5: ugly stuff happen, and it could have turned a lot
- 34:23Speaker 5: more ugly back in the third period as a result
- 34:27Speaker 5: of a couple of fights that broke out, one between
- 34:29Speaker 5: Brandon Montour and Mark Stone, and then also Ryan Winterton
- 34:33Speaker 5: finding Mark Gatcombe. But it's window dressing as far as
- 34:36Speaker 5: this game is concerned. And we're going to dive into
- 34:38Speaker 5: more of the issues here that turn this game on
- 34:41Speaker 5: its head. And very, very, very early on is a
- 34:44Speaker 5: crack and fall. 6-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights. As tonight,
- 34:48Speaker 5: it was a 4.9 from Tomasz Hurdle, a 4.9 from
- 34:51Speaker 5: Jack Eichel. Two points as well from Mark Stone, Victor
- 34:55Speaker 5: Olofsson as well. despite Capo Caco getting a pair of
- 34:58Speaker 5: assists on the board in the third period, and Shane
- 35:01Speaker 5: Wright and Jared McCann getting a couple of goals. Without
- 35:04Speaker 5: further ado, we now go to the Beacon Plumbing Hotline,
- 35:07Speaker 5: and joining us by phone, Ian Furness, the one and
- 35:11Speaker 5: only mayor of Maple Valley. Fresh off the call, that
- 35:17Speaker 5: one escalated in the third period in a hurry. Ian, hi,
- 35:21Speaker 5: how are you? I think we have some difficulty with
- 35:34Speaker 5: Ian right now over the phone, so we're going to
- 35:37Speaker 5: get back to Ian coming up here in just a
- 35:40Speaker 5: bit as we're going to get to Ian shortly, momentarily,
- 35:43Speaker 5: as the Kraken again falls 6-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights.
- 35:46Speaker 5: But go ahead and text us again, folks, 49451 Tacoma
- 35:49Speaker 5: Dosh text line as far as your level of concern
- 35:52Speaker 5: here from this game. And I'll just go back here
- 35:54Speaker 5: first off into the first period where, again, you really
- 35:57Speaker 5: didn't hate it as far as, what the Kraken had
- 36:00Speaker 5: maybe in the first 10 minutes, and it could have
- 36:03Speaker 5: been better. At one point, the Kraken outshot Vegas 8-4,
- 36:07Speaker 5: but again, we go back to that first power play.
- 36:09Speaker 5: Just squandering it just kind of felt like maybe a
- 36:12Speaker 5: big gut punch, and then going down 2-0 is kind
- 36:16Speaker 5: of like getting KO'd a bit down to the mat
- 36:18Speaker 5: for the first time, and you got to get back
- 36:20Speaker 5: up and try to face the punches that Vegas could
- 36:22Speaker 5: throw your way, so to speak, and the Kraken, after
- 36:25Speaker 5: they gave up that third goal in the second period,
- 36:27Speaker 5: just had a hard time trying to overturn that. You
- 36:32Speaker 5: go back here for the first period goal that they
- 36:34Speaker 5: gave up to make it 1-0, and the goal that
- 36:37Speaker 5: Victor Olofsson scored, the Kraken failed to box out in
- 36:40Speaker 5: that situation. Maybe debatable if there was contact, but not
- 36:44Speaker 5: enough conclusive evidence to overturn that goal. And the second
- 36:47Speaker 5: goal that they gave up on the penalty kill, just
- 36:49Speaker 5: blowing coverage of the net there, and that's something that
- 36:51Speaker 5: you could maybe think that they're going to get a
- 36:54Speaker 5: look at on video next time they can dive into
- 36:56Speaker 5: this one on a deeper level on the penalty kill. Alright,
- 36:59Speaker 5: now back to the Beacon Plumbing Hotline we go. Ian
- 37:02Speaker 5: Furness on the other side, I believe. Ian, you there? Hello?
- 37:07Speaker 16: Now I hear you.
- 37:07Speaker 1: How are you, Mikey? There we go.
- 37:09Speaker 5: We are all dialed up, synced up, wired in. We're
- 37:12Speaker 5: doing fine. Thank you very much. Ian, He had the
- 37:15Speaker 5: TV call here for tonight's game, and just from, I think,
- 37:19Speaker 5: a level of emotion, it kind of felt like a
- 37:23Speaker 5: tale of two games here between these two teams, and
- 37:25Speaker 5: we'll see maybe if some of this bad blood, so
- 37:28Speaker 5: to speak, carries over way into January for the next meeting,
- 37:31Speaker 5: but a lot of hockey is going to be played
- 37:33Speaker 5: before then, but I just think from just the standpoint
- 37:36Speaker 5: of how the Kraken had to manage their game, and
- 37:39Speaker 5: you could maybe say it was a bit disconnected. What
- 37:41Speaker 5: were your general observations as this one unfolded back in
- 37:45Speaker 5: period one and period two?
- 37:46Speaker 16: Yeah, I think, you know, there's a couple things that
- 37:49Speaker 16: jump out. I mean, you know, we talked about it
- 37:52Speaker 16: on TV.
- 37:52Speaker 5: J.T.
- 37:53Speaker 16: Brown mentioned it a few times. I mean, just they
- 37:55Speaker 16: couldn't get anything going, you know, through the neutral zone. Seattle,
- 37:58Speaker 16: that is, in those first 40 minutes. Vegas did a
- 38:02Speaker 16: great job in that regard. You know, the chances that
- 38:06Speaker 16: Seattle had first period before Vegas scored that first goal is,
- 38:11Speaker 16: If you think back, you know, Shane Wright and Ryan
- 38:14Speaker 16: Winterton both had opportunities in tight, on rebounds, pucks that
- 38:20Speaker 16: they didn't get through, or Carter Hart would make a save.
- 38:22Speaker 16: And you've got to finish those because, you know, you're
- 38:25Speaker 16: only going to get so many good opportunities. Those are
- 38:26Speaker 16: both grade-A chances those guys had. You don't score there.
- 38:30Speaker 16: They get the one off the, you know, the long
- 38:33Speaker 16: shot from the point, and, you know, Olofsson doing a,
- 38:35Speaker 16: you know, elevating in front.
- 38:37Speaker 1: It's 1-0.
- 38:38Speaker 16: They get the power play goal, and You know, I
- 38:40Speaker 16: think 2-0 after one, you kind of say, okay, you're fine, regroup,
- 38:45Speaker 16: and away you go. You get a power play to
- 38:47Speaker 16: start the second period, you know, 17 seconds in or
- 38:50Speaker 16: 15 seconds in. And then just absolutely awful luck. You know,
- 38:56Speaker 16: Montour breaks his stick on a slap shot, and basically
- 39:00Speaker 16: it's a two-on-none the other way. And Almani without a
- 39:03Speaker 16: stick is the only guy back, and it's 3-0 in it.
- 39:05Speaker 16: I thought that it just felt like that just deflated
- 39:08Speaker 16: the team. And those are the things you've got to
- 39:11Speaker 16: find a way to overcome. You're still on a power play.
- 39:14Speaker 16: You've got nothing out of it after giving up a
- 39:16Speaker 16: shorthanded goal. And then it just snowballed from there. You know,
- 39:21Speaker 16: one thing to mention, they had two shots, I think,
- 39:24Speaker 16: on that second power play to start the second period.
- 39:27Speaker 16: They had two shots on goal there.
- 39:28Speaker 1: They went 13-3.
- 39:30Speaker 16: A half minutes into cracking between those two power play
- 39:34Speaker 16: shots in the first minute and their next shot on
- 39:37Speaker 16: goal in the second period. Well, you're not going to
- 39:40Speaker 16: win hockey games that way.
- 39:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it got lopsided back in that second period by
- 39:45Speaker 5: our count as far as The shot attempts at 5-on-5,
- 39:48Speaker 5: it was Vegas 25 and the Kraken 2 in that
- 39:51Speaker 5: second period. So that leads us here into the third period.
- 39:55Speaker 5: I mean, again, you talk about window dressing maybe. You
- 39:58Speaker 5: want to finish strong, but this game was already out
- 40:00Speaker 5: of hand. But what did you make out of the
- 40:02Speaker 5: rough stuff here that happened after the Myers hit on
- 40:05Speaker 5: Olison and a couple of fights that also broke out
- 40:07Speaker 5: as well?
- 40:09Speaker 16: Well, probably predictable. If I just go to the other
- 40:13Speaker 16: side for a second, Lane Lambert has preached response for
- 40:17Speaker 16: a year plus now, and he wants to see a
- 40:19Speaker 16: response from his team if something happens that they feel
- 40:22Speaker 16: is unnecessary, unwarranted, or out of line. And the Myers
- 40:27Speaker 16: hit was a bad hit. There's just no getting around it.
- 40:30Speaker 16: That's a bad hit. And Vegas was upset, and they responded,
- 40:35Speaker 16: and then it got a little goofy, but I I
- 40:38Speaker 16: thought it could have ended with the Monty and stone scuffle,
- 40:43Speaker 16: but they were looking for Winterton. They were looking for
- 40:46Speaker 16: blood and then, you know, like, or not with winter,
- 40:49Speaker 16: they were looking for, you know, they were looking for retribution,
- 40:51Speaker 16: you know, Winterton's hit on Connelly was a clean hit,
- 40:54Speaker 16: but by then the tensions were boiling over. You know,
- 40:58Speaker 16: I thought Vegas could have got penalized even more. They
- 41:00Speaker 16: had six guys on the ice at that point.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 41:03Speaker 16: And, you know, Connelly was still on the ice and
- 41:05Speaker 16: there were five other skaters in front of the benches. And,
- 41:08Speaker 16: The scuffle breaks out, and then you know Winters is
- 41:10Speaker 16: going to have to answer the bell. Well, Zahn was
- 41:12Speaker 16: getting a little goofy out there, which, you know, that's
- 41:16Speaker 16: going to happen. Listen, that stuff takes place in a
- 41:20Speaker 16: game like that. It's a lopsided score. Let's go back.
- 41:23Speaker 16: I mean, there was a hit in the first period.
- 41:25Speaker 16: Ryan Lindgren was knocked out of the game. He left injured.
- 41:28Speaker 16: We don't know what his status is. I know we'll
- 41:29Speaker 16: hear from Lane here in a little bit, but, you know,
- 41:32Speaker 16: it's not like Seattle didn't lose a player to an
- 41:34Speaker 16: injury on a bad hit either. That was a two-minute minor.
- 41:36Speaker 16: It could have been five. And away we go. So,
- 41:40Speaker 16: you know, there was a lot to this game. You know,
- 41:43Speaker 16: Gruby kept him in in the second.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Didn't keep him in it.
- 41:45Speaker 16: There was 5-0. But Gruby made a couple saves in
- 41:47Speaker 16: that third period. I thought the only positive I take
- 41:51Speaker 16: out of it, Mike, is Shane Wright scoring again. Back-to-back
- 41:55Speaker 16: games for Shane Wright.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Getting him going.
- 41:58Speaker 16: I know it was so-called garbage time, but I thought
- 42:00Speaker 16: that was a good sign for him. Kapo Kako getting
- 42:03Speaker 16: a couple assists, but... Really, this is a game you
- 42:06Speaker 16: just got to flush and move on. It's one of 84,
- 42:08Speaker 16: but unfortunately it happened at home, and the home crowd,
- 42:14Speaker 16: they didn't even get to leave early with an early
- 42:16Speaker 16: start because their periods took so darn long. So just
- 42:19Speaker 16: one of those nights, one of those nights.
- 42:22Speaker 5: Shane Wright now with goals in back-to-back games. That goal
- 42:24Speaker 5: to break up Carter Hart's shutout was not cheap. And
- 42:27Speaker 5: in the meantime, the Kraken will again see, as you referenced,
- 42:30Speaker 5: Ryan Lindgren and his status left after period one. upper
- 42:34Speaker 5: body injury, but I think just from an overall scale,
- 42:37Speaker 5: this had a lot of conversation leading up to Tier
- 42:39Speaker 5: 2 today. The 2-1 record here for the Kraken, how
- 42:42Speaker 5: much was this an indication of improvements, a bump up
- 42:47Speaker 5: in play, skill versus how much did it really tell
- 42:50Speaker 5: the hockey world about the state of the Calgary Flames?
- 42:52Speaker 5: So I think needless to say, Ian, through four games,
- 42:55Speaker 5: we've seen opposite ends here of the spectrum. So what
- 42:58Speaker 5: do you walk away as far as your feel on
- 43:00Speaker 5: the Kraken overall in their game heading into the road trip?
- 43:05Speaker 16: Well, yeah, I mean, Calgary's not good. But, you know,
- 43:09Speaker 16: Seattle's lost. Every team this season will lose a team
- 43:13Speaker 16: that they're not as good at, right, that are better
- 43:16Speaker 16: than them. And those things happen. But, yeah, you took
- 43:20Speaker 16: advantage of Calgary with two 6-1 wins. I think, you know,
- 43:23Speaker 16: the better barometer is looking at Edmonton to a point.
- 43:26Speaker 16: You lose that game effectively on a bad bounce, 2-1.
- 43:30Speaker 16: They get the empty net goal and make it 3-1.
- 43:31Speaker 16: But you only scored the one goal in that game.
- 43:35Speaker 16: And then I've been dismissing guys. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins out. Zach
- 43:39Speaker 16: Hyman out. So, you know, it's still hard to get
- 43:42Speaker 16: a read on the Seattle team. Detroit will be a
- 43:44Speaker 16: good indicator, I think, in some ways, to see what
- 43:46Speaker 16: that's all about. Philadelphia the same way. You know, you
- 43:50Speaker 16: need to go on this five-game road trip and at
- 43:53Speaker 16: least get, you know, four to six points. That's what
- 43:56Speaker 16: you need to get. And, you know, I don't know
- 43:59Speaker 16: which team's going to show up. I don't know which
- 44:00Speaker 16: team we're going to see. I like to believe... that
- 44:03Speaker 16: the Kraken are better for a couple reasons, and I
- 44:05Speaker 16: say better than last year for a couple reasons. One,
- 44:09Speaker 16: I think the improvement of the young guys. I think
- 44:11Speaker 16: Berkeley Cat has taken a step. I think Shane Wright
- 44:14Speaker 16: early on has taken a step. I like that line.
- 44:16Speaker 16: They weren't too effective tonight. Really, no line was. I
- 44:20Speaker 16: think that's better. Samaskevich, I think he looked a little
- 44:25Speaker 16: lost tonight. Didn't like his game at all, but that's
- 44:28Speaker 16: just one game. You know, I think that there's a
- 44:32Speaker 16: lot to like. McMahon's going to be fine and is
- 44:36Speaker 16: a good player. Nice to get Jared McCann that first
- 44:39Speaker 16: goal to go with all of his assists. But I
- 44:42Speaker 16: think we're going to have a better feel two weeks
- 44:44Speaker 16: from tonight when the team's back home to take on
- 44:46Speaker 16: Detroit again of where they're at. I would say this.
- 44:49Speaker 16: I think it's safe to say that what we've seen
- 44:54Speaker 16: so far is a team that's better than last year.
- 44:57Speaker 16: It's faster, plays faster. plays harder most nights. They just
- 45:03Speaker 16: had a really awful, awful, really latter stages of the
- 45:10Speaker 16: first and second period. They played 30 minutes of brutal
- 45:13Speaker 16: hockey tonight, and it cost them big.
- 45:16Speaker 5: Kraken trying to get this turned around beginning Friday at Detroit. Ian,
- 45:20Speaker 5: thank you very, very much for joining us here. Appreciate you, man.
- 45:25Speaker 14: See you, Captain.
- 45:26Speaker 16: Take care.
- 45:27Speaker 5: That's the mayor of Maple Valley, Ian Furness, joining us.
- 45:29Speaker 5: He had the TV call. He was just joining us
- 45:32Speaker 5: here at the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Again, 49451 Tacoma Dodge
- 45:35Speaker 5: text line, and we're going to dive into reaction right now.
- 45:38Speaker 5: 253 is saying it felt like the guys skated hard tonight,
- 45:41Speaker 5: but just Vegas is just a wagon at this time
- 45:45Speaker 5: of year. That from the 253. The 425 cracker are
- 45:49Speaker 5: hoping that they have a bunch of guys who score
- 45:50Speaker 5: 20 goals, and they need a guy who can score 40,
- 45:53Speaker 5: and From the 206, just kind of playing off of that,
- 45:57Speaker 5: there was concern expressed here about doing nothing in the
- 46:01Speaker 5: offseason and maybe having to look at do you expect
- 46:04Speaker 5: to have a different level of competitiveness against Vegas or Edmonton?
- 46:09Speaker 5: It could be a long season, but still go cracking.
- 46:12Speaker 5: That from Rob in the 206 as he is on
- 46:15Speaker 5: the ferry dock right now headed back home. This is
- 46:20Speaker 5: going to go right back here to the offseason, and
- 46:22Speaker 5: This is a statement just from a matter of fact.
- 46:25Speaker 5: When you take a swing at Jason Robertson and you
- 46:28Speaker 5: miss out and he says, no, thank you. And to
- 46:30Speaker 5: be fair, it wasn't just here. There was also a
- 46:33Speaker 5: no that he gave reportedly to St. Louis. Dallas was
- 46:36Speaker 5: a place that he wanted to stay. But we're going
- 46:39Speaker 5: to hear the narrative perk up over and over. Do
- 46:43Speaker 5: guys want to come? Well, when you're going through a
- 46:45Speaker 5: period like this where winning was hard to come by,
- 46:49Speaker 5: There's one way that you get yourself out of this
- 46:51Speaker 5: is that you have to also build a team internally
- 46:54Speaker 5: as much as you can. Now, they found a guy
- 46:56Speaker 5: who was able to come and stayed in Bobby McMahon,
- 47:01Speaker 5: made a trade here for Mackie Samaskevich. But I kind
- 47:03Speaker 5: of go back here to the Philip Grubauer comparison of
- 47:06Speaker 5: two years ago when he got Colin Zulianello involved in
- 47:10Speaker 5: his game and trying to fix the underlying issues for
- 47:14Speaker 5: what happened to him and his numbers. Had a big
- 47:16Speaker 5: bounce back year. And this is kind of where the
- 47:19Speaker 5: Kraken have to really rely on to get their game,
- 47:23Speaker 5: their numbers, their production, and ultimately a guy who can
- 47:26Speaker 5: maybe pop on that top line up to speed. And
- 47:29Speaker 5: it is through internal development here. So this is where
- 47:32Speaker 5: Berkley Catton has got to learn. Mackie Samaskewicz has got
- 47:34Speaker 5: to learn as well. And you will have nights here
- 47:37Speaker 5: like these. But ultimately, this is where you're going to
- 47:39Speaker 5: have to find your solutions for a guy who can
- 47:42Speaker 5: score 20 goals, a guy who can maybe score 40 goals.
- 47:46Speaker 5: Do take this away, though. I mean, the Kraken, from
- 47:48Speaker 5: what we heard, are not done looking for a guy
- 47:50Speaker 5: who could maybe jump in and find that kind of production.
- 47:54Speaker 5: But it will take time, and there's the right fit
- 47:56Speaker 5: that you have to certainly look for that's going to
- 47:59Speaker 5: be a fit in that area. 425 saying, level of concern,
- 48:03Speaker 5: it's early in the offseason right now to be talking
- 48:05Speaker 5: about that, but considering that just from a national perspective,
- 48:08Speaker 5: not much is expected from the Kraken this season, so
- 48:12Speaker 5: the level of concern isn't very high today.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Yet.
- 48:15Speaker 5: That from the 4-2-5. To one point, there is, I think,
- 48:19Speaker 5: one way to be valid about the level of concern,
- 48:21Speaker 5: and it's just really how far away this game got
- 48:24Speaker 5: from the Kraken, especially early on. I go back to
- 48:27Speaker 5: the second period where we were talking about when this
- 48:30Speaker 5: game began to fall apart, when you go down 3-0
- 48:33Speaker 5: on what was a tough luck play. But Vegas capitalized,
- 48:37Speaker 5: right place, right time. Yet from there, there was still
- 48:41Speaker 5: time to dig out of it. And the Kraken... Unfortunately,
- 48:44Speaker 5: after that, looked like a frustrated team. A lot of
- 48:47Speaker 5: shortcuts they took, a lot of home run plays, just
- 48:50Speaker 5: a lot of things that they tried that just really
- 48:53Speaker 5: didn't work. And by that point, were running around back
- 48:56Speaker 5: in their own zone. Vegas goes up 4-0, and too
- 49:00Speaker 5: much time spent in the D zone led to another
- 49:02Speaker 5: puck into the back of their own net. And eventually,
- 49:05Speaker 5: Joey Decord had to be replaced by Phillip Grubauer heading into...
- 49:09Speaker 5: period three. All right, we'll get to more of your
- 49:11Speaker 5: reaction coming up in just a bit, plus reaction from
- 49:13Speaker 5: head coach Lane Lambert. After this, as we're live from
- 49:16Speaker 5: Tom's Watch Bar, final score once again, Vegas 6-0. Kraken 2.
- 49:20Speaker 5: Here on Talking Kraken on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 49:30Speaker 2: If you've got a comment about tonight's Kraken game, make
- 49:33Speaker 2: sure we hear about it. Just text us at 49451.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Now back to talking Kraken with Mike Benton on Sports
- 49:41Speaker 2: Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 49:45Speaker 5: Shane Wright, Jared McKinnon have the only Kraken goals in
- 49:47Speaker 5: the third period where the Kraken showed some fight. But
- 49:50Speaker 5: at that point, the game was already well out of
- 49:53Speaker 5: hand as Vegas scored five unanswered goals to open the
- 49:56Speaker 5: game and eventually win. 6-2 your final Vegas over the
- 49:59Speaker 5: Kraken is how this one goes down. Also as part
- 50:02Speaker 5: of a third period where things got really nasty, 55
- 50:06Speaker 5: penalty minutes in total dished out as well along with
- 50:09Speaker 5: a couple of fights. One of those Brandon Montour versus
- 50:12Speaker 5: Mark Stone and then Ryan Winterton against Mark Gatcombe while
- 50:16Speaker 5: the Kraken also await news here on Ryan Lindgren who
- 50:20Speaker 5: left this game after period one. due to injury. Down
- 50:23Speaker 5: to the room we go right now for reaction from
- 50:25Speaker 5: this one and head coach Lane Lambert meeting with the
- 50:27Speaker 5: media right now.
- 50:29Speaker 22: Lane, Brandon Munter said you guys, he said the guys
- 50:32Speaker 22: kind of got away from their game a little bit.
- 50:34Speaker 13: Would you agree with that and where do you think
- 50:35Speaker 13: things went that direction tonight? Yeah, I thought too many turnovers.
- 50:42Speaker 13: Too many turnovers in the neutral zone. If we're going
- 50:48Speaker 13: to use our speed, we've got to We've got to
- 50:50Speaker 13: make their D-turn, and whether it be chipping the puck
- 50:55Speaker 13: in and going and getting it or skating it in,
- 50:58Speaker 13: if you have room to do that, you don't get
- 51:01Speaker 13: to decide whether you chip it or skate it. They do,
- 51:04Speaker 13: depending on what their gaps are. I didn't think we
- 51:07Speaker 13: were very sharp. We didn't make very many good decisions
- 51:10Speaker 13: that way, but that certainly took away from our speed.
- 51:16Speaker 13: What do you want your team to learn from this game? Well,
- 51:20Speaker 13: there's lots to learn from this game. There's certain things that,
- 51:29Speaker 13: like I said this morning, I think things that matter
- 51:32Speaker 13: most are the things that maybe you can't measure on
- 51:36Speaker 13: the stat sheet. I really liked our fight till the end.
- 51:44Speaker 13: You don't want to have a home game where Certainly
- 51:48Speaker 13: you're losing 5-0 after two periods and fans start to leave.
- 51:56Speaker 13: I'm proud of our team for coming out in the
- 51:59Speaker 13: third period and continuing to battle right down to the
- 52:03Speaker 13: bitter end, including some pushback and things like that. I
- 52:10Speaker 13: think there was a lot to be said for that.
- 52:13Speaker 13: I think that's a good step for us.
- 52:16Speaker 21: Lane, it seemed like you guys got off to a
- 52:18Speaker 21: fairly decent start in the first 10 minutes or so.
- 52:20Speaker 16: We did.
- 52:21Speaker 21: That big flurry with Shane getting a couple chances in there.
- 52:23Speaker 21: Did you feel like that decision-making you were mentioning, did
- 52:26Speaker 21: that kind of come on as the game went along,
- 52:28Speaker 21: or was it kind of there from the start from
- 52:29Speaker 21: what you saw?
- 52:30Speaker 13: It was there in spurts from the start. And I
- 52:34Speaker 13: got to tell you, like, you got to give them credit.
- 52:38Speaker 13: They're a good hockey team. You know, they– They came
- 52:41Speaker 13: within two wins of the Stanley Cup last year. Yes,
- 52:44Speaker 13: we beat them three times last year as well, but
- 52:48Speaker 13: they play the game, and they play it a certain way,
- 52:51Speaker 13: and it's pretty simple. And there's a lot for us
- 52:58Speaker 13: to pick up from that.
- 53:00Speaker 21: Whether it was the preseason games in Calgary and the
- 53:02Speaker 21: way those kind of went or the kind of scraps
- 53:04Speaker 21: there in the third period tonight, are you kind of
- 53:06Speaker 21: glad to see maybe the kind of backbone of the
- 53:09Speaker 21: team early on in the year with kind of standing
- 53:12Speaker 21: up for each other and that, as like Brandon did
- 53:15Speaker 21: there with the fight tonight?
- 53:15Speaker 13: No, you don't go anywhere as a hockey team unless
- 53:18Speaker 13: you have each other's backs. Obviously, you lose Ryan Lindgren
- 53:24Speaker 13: in that game as well. How does kind of juggling
- 53:27Speaker 13: the five defensemen factor into.
- 53:29Speaker 1: This in your eyes?
- 53:30Speaker 13: Yeah it was a big loss for us so early
- 53:33Speaker 13: on and certainly on the penalty kill as well he's
- 53:36Speaker 13: the first guy over the boards as a lefty so
- 53:39Speaker 13: you know there were some challenges there from that standpoint
- 53:43Speaker 13: you know their second goal I don't believe probably if
- 53:45Speaker 13: he was on the ice it maybe would have happened
- 53:48Speaker 13: but it is what it is and we've got to
- 53:49Speaker 13: make sure that we fix that so depending on you
- 53:52Speaker 13: know how he manages Ryan from here we'll see what
- 53:56Speaker 13: happens but you know, having 5D and then, you know,
- 54:00Speaker 13: I think we were down to three at one point.
- 54:02Speaker 13: You don't have an update on him?
- 54:04Speaker 2: No.
- 54:07Speaker 3: Lane, always unpredictable, but what was your viewpoint on the
- 54:10Speaker 3: goalie interference?
- 54:13Speaker 13: Well, we thought, you know, we thought there was some contact. Obviously, we,
- 54:19Speaker 13: you know, we didn't get the call and, you know,
- 54:25Speaker 13: it's a matter of You have to trust your penalty kill.
- 54:28Speaker 13: We did kill the penalty off after the goal, and
- 54:32Speaker 13: you're going to have some successes in those challenges, and
- 54:36Speaker 13: you're not. Tonight was not.
- 54:41Speaker 5: That's that, Coach. Lane Lambert with his reaction, and maybe
- 54:44Speaker 5: even to his point on top of that, a play
- 54:47Speaker 5: that you challenge based on the fact that you could
- 54:49Speaker 5: overturn goaltender interference. 50-50 maybe, but if it doesn't work out, again,
- 54:55Speaker 5: as he said, you trust your penalty kill. They have
- 54:57Speaker 5: looked better, and eventually they did get that kill on
- 55:00Speaker 5: top of it. So still plenty of chances the Kraken
- 55:03Speaker 5: had to work their way back into the game. But
- 55:05Speaker 5: as we said earlier, and as Lane Lambert mentioned on
- 55:08Speaker 5: top of that, just a second period that got away
- 55:11Speaker 5: where the Kraken didn't make the game as simple enough
- 55:14Speaker 5: as they could. One example... using speed at their advantage
- 55:18Speaker 5: and making Vegas turn around. The simple plays get that
- 55:21Speaker 5: job done. And this evening, the Kraken, at some points,
- 55:24Speaker 5: weren't sharp, and they know that they have to be better.
- 55:26Speaker 5: They can be faster, and they can be wiser as
- 55:28Speaker 5: well with the pucks. So on top of that, you
- 55:30Speaker 5: appreciate the fight where you show some pushback, and that's
- 55:34Speaker 5: a big optics thing. The pushback part of this, Lane
- 55:38Speaker 5: Lambert said he was very, very proud of the battle effort.
- 55:41Speaker 5: It's not a cover-up here for the effort and the
- 55:43Speaker 5: execution for the first 40 minutes. But it's a long-term
- 55:46Speaker 5: carryover thing that you expect to see a team do
- 55:49Speaker 5: if you fall behind, you know, their fault or not
- 55:53Speaker 5: based on circumstances. So you see a little bit of that.
- 55:56Speaker 5: You show some long-term core value team building as well.
- 56:00Speaker 5: But ultimately, the major issues still lie ahead as far
- 56:03Speaker 5: as what you want to fix. And when you fall
- 56:06Speaker 5: behind to a team like Vegas that came within two
- 56:08Speaker 5: wins of the Stanley Cup, mistakes will eventually add up.
- 56:11Speaker 5: And that's what happened here as the Kraken again fell behind.
- 56:14Speaker 5: to vegas six to two here in the fourth game
- 56:17Speaker 5: of 84 the regular season one more check of uh
- 56:20Speaker 5: your reaction here on this and uh the 425 just
- 56:24Speaker 5: said vegas was more the physical team and they went
- 56:27Speaker 5: out of their way to show that here for tonight
- 56:30Speaker 5: uh separate text here from the 425 uh appreciate the
- 56:33Speaker 5: fight and it shows improved culture as well uh that
- 56:36Speaker 5: from jeff in the 425 uh we get uh One
- 56:41Speaker 5: here from Maddie on Twitter saying it's not the first
- 56:44Speaker 5: blowout loss and it probably won't be the last, so
- 56:46Speaker 5: you just have to keep pushing forward. One reaction here
- 56:50Speaker 5: from SBellman523, the proper kind of response after just, you know,
- 56:56Speaker 5: taking what they had. So you hopefully remember that what
- 56:59Speaker 5: the structure is and what is required to win when
- 57:02Speaker 5: you don't have, you know, a so-called star on your team.
- 57:05Speaker 5: And this was a needed reality check here that will
- 57:07Speaker 5: hopefully pay off dividends down the road. So it's reset
- 57:11Speaker 5: time as the Kraken now will turn their sights on
- 57:14Speaker 5: the Red Wings. And they went through a turbulent offseason.
- 57:16Speaker 5: Steve Iserman out as GM. Sean Horkoff in there in
- 57:20Speaker 5: place of him. Dylan Larkin asking for a trade. Losing
- 57:23Speaker 5: his captaincy over it. Simon Edmondson in a contract standoff.
- 57:27Speaker 5: But yet they get Larkin back. He scored tonight. Detroit won.
- 57:31Speaker 5: And the biggest question here for the Kraken is can
- 57:33Speaker 5: they put them right back a step behind after this
- 57:37Speaker 5: one as far as Detroit beating Ottawa earlier this evening.
- 57:40Speaker 5: They're going through the longest playoff drought in the NHL
- 57:43Speaker 5: for 10 straight seasons. And entering today, they had an
- 57:47Speaker 5: 0-2 start that had a penalty kill, really taking a
- 57:50Speaker 5: beating 4 of 8. So a bit of a step
- 57:53Speaker 5: ahead here for Detroit as far as beating Ottawa earlier
- 57:56Speaker 5: this evening here. But the Kraken know that they will
- 57:58Speaker 5: certainly have their hands full as what Detroit can do offensively.
- 58:02Speaker 5: They have scored 31 goals on the Kraken in seven matchups,
- 58:06Speaker 5: plus 12 of 29 as well on the power play.
- 58:09Speaker 5: So the Kraken looking to get the ship righted in
- 58:13Speaker 5: their first game of this road trip coming up in Detroit.
- 58:16Speaker 5: The Red Wings once again won 5-3 earlier today behind
- 58:20Speaker 5: a two-point knife from Dylan Larkin back into the lineup,
- 58:23Speaker 5: and Alex Dabrinkit as well with a three-point game. Two
- 58:27Speaker 5: meetings head-to-head. Kraken at Detroit again on Friday, and then
- 58:30Speaker 5: they'll meet once again coming up here on the 20th.
- 58:34Speaker 5: And that's our next broadcast, October 9th, the Kraken taking
- 58:37Speaker 5: on the Red Wings at 4 p.m. Pacific time. Your airtime,
- 58:41Speaker 5: once again, 3.30. Hope you can certainly join us wherever
- 58:45Speaker 5: you may be, ever it fits you. Al Koniski on
- 58:48Speaker 5: site in Detroit. I'll join you once again right back
- 58:52Speaker 5: at Network Central all across the Global Credit Union Kraken
- 58:55Speaker 5: Audio Network to open up. A five-game road trip, the
- 58:59Speaker 5: Kraken again taking on the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit.
- 59:03Speaker 5: We certainly hope that you can join us for that one.
- 59:06Speaker 5: That will do it for here. Thanks again to Travis Moger,
