- 0:04Speaker 1: Alright, alright, come un through your Live from Philly. It's
- 0:10Speaker 1: the Polly and Tony Foolsco. Shore Foolsco here with Tony
- 0:17Speaker 1: Fousco and Tony. You know, we kind of brushed past
- 0:21Speaker 1: it last week because you know, we don't like the
- 0:23Speaker 1: tudor own horn. That's not what we do around very
- 0:26Speaker 1: grounded exactly. We've launched a partnership with the good people
- 0:31Speaker 1: at you though. That's what people. They have a grade
- 0:34Speaker 1: to give us a percentage of their profits of our videos.
- 0:38Speaker 1: So we decided, hey, we're gonna start posting them. So
- 0:42Speaker 1: you know what you'll probably want to do is, you know,
- 0:44Speaker 1: listen to the podcast first, get that audio, then experience
- 0:49Speaker 1: it through videos. You'll get it again and can enjoy
- 0:51Speaker 1: it in a whole different way, right Tony. Yeah, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 1: we used to always talk about active listening and the
- 0:58Speaker 1: number of people who used to read listen to our
- 1:02Speaker 1: podcast was off the charts. Numbers were huge, huge, and
- 1:07Speaker 1: now you can re listen as you watch on YouTube.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So great, well said Tony. And you know last week
- 1:14Speaker 1: we told you Tony he had COVID you know, unfortunately
- 1:18Speaker 1: battled it very but he's good. You know, after six
- 1:22Speaker 1: months got better. Anyway, this week we both unfortunately, I
- 1:26Speaker 1: was good and then we got the I got COVID again,
- 1:28Speaker 1: That's that's true. But you know I got it though. Now.
- 1:31Speaker 1: So you know, if you hear Us coffin, if you
- 1:33Speaker 1: hear Us coffin, hey, don't blame us, all right, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: blame whichever laboratory it came from. Anyway. So, uh to
- 1:40Speaker 1: today's show. Uh, you know, Tony and I were sitting
- 1:44Speaker 1: around watching this new show on HBO, Winning Time, which,
- 1:47Speaker 1: as you know, it's just just terrible. Anyway, we're watching
- 1:51Speaker 1: this watching the credits come up. Uh you know, by
- 1:54Speaker 1: the way, it's the show about the Lakers, which you
- 1:56Speaker 1: wouldn't even know watching the show because it takes forever
- 1:59Speaker 1: to get to the fucking story. Anyway, we're watching these
- 2:01Speaker 1: credits were horrible, and uh it says based on a
- 2:05Speaker 1: book by Jeff Perlman, a book called Showtime. And I
- 2:10Speaker 1: turned the Tony and I say, based on a book,
- 2:14Speaker 1: this ship really happened. Why would you Why is it
- 2:17Speaker 1: based on the book? Yeah, I mean, how is fucking
- 2:21Speaker 1: Perlman taking credit for ship that happened in real life?
- 2:26Speaker 1: You know? Do you take credit for George Washington crossing
- 2:30Speaker 1: the Nile River. Of course, not great point, don't and
- 2:35Speaker 1: uh that that's bad to begin with. Then you look
- 2:38Speaker 1: at the look of the whole thing. I mean, the
- 2:40Speaker 1: budget for this piece of ship must have been real
- 2:43Speaker 1: low because it looked like ship, like they were recorded
- 2:46Speaker 1: on old film stock. I mean, HBO might not I guess.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I guess HBO didn't want to put money into this
- 2:52Speaker 1: because it looked terrible. I felt like I was watching
- 2:55Speaker 1: a porno with Randy West, Ron Jeremy and Kay Parker.
- 3:00Speaker 1: You know, I was waiting for the show up. That's
- 3:03Speaker 1: a great point, Tony, Randy West a little more VHS.
- 3:07Speaker 1: This looked him a little film stop point, good boy,
- 3:10Speaker 1: you know. But we don't want to deviate here from
- 3:12Speaker 1: the main topic here. We can get into that sidebar later.
- 3:16Speaker 1: But you know the fact that they're not using HD
- 3:18Speaker 1: cameras to shoot this thing just tells you what HBO
- 3:21Speaker 1: of us have thought of this garbage. Anyway, we're gonna
- 3:23Speaker 1: bring on the author of this book that is apparently
- 3:27Speaker 1: about the Lakers, Jeff Perlman. Uh, we'll talk to him,
- 3:32Speaker 1: but before we get to that in the show, we
- 3:34Speaker 1: gotta tell you we have a new presenting sponsor today,
- 3:38Speaker 1: Vinnie's Shoe Bin. If you think the shoes at Vinnie's
- 3:41Speaker 1: are too expensive, go funk yourself, yes, stop being a
- 3:45Speaker 1: cheap fuck and go to Vinnie's. All right, yeah, there
- 3:49Speaker 1: you go. Anyway. Uh, you know, we got a lot
- 3:51Speaker 1: of blowback last week from all of you said, hey, Paully, Tony,
- 3:54Speaker 1: why do you do one of your signature segments? You know,
- 3:57Speaker 1: all right, so we we heard you exactly. All right,
- 4:01Speaker 1: We're gonna bring it back now because you know, as
- 4:04Speaker 1: always on this show, we always get it a hundred
- 4:07Speaker 1: percent right, bingo pango every time. So we're gonna do it.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Here we goes the segment where Polly and Tony were
- 4:14Speaker 1: right where were right? Alright? First one out the gate.
- 4:21Speaker 1: We totally called it. You know, we've been saying all along,
- 4:24Speaker 1: if the Seahawks want to get back the winning the
- 4:27Speaker 1: one thing they need to do is get rid of
- 4:29Speaker 1: Russell Wilson. And now that the big winners in this
- 4:32Speaker 1: trade clearly lopsided their way. And then you know, when
- 4:36Speaker 1: you look around this league, Tony, it's very clear what
- 4:38Speaker 1: you need. You don't need a quarterback. Need is a
- 4:42Speaker 1: seventy year old defensive minded coach, you know, and uh
- 4:47Speaker 1: and Pete Garrold that's that's that's how you win, right,
- 4:50Speaker 1: you win with a guy like Pete Garroll, Right, Tony,
- 4:52Speaker 1: a hundred percent. You gotta think you're in the NFC West.
- 4:56Speaker 1: You're in the division with the young head coach and
- 4:59Speaker 1: Sean McVeigh. Hey, so how do you beat a young coach?
- 5:03Speaker 1: Easy with an old coach? As the saying goes, when
- 5:07Speaker 1: they go low, you go high in age? Right, well
- 5:13Speaker 1: said as all. I mean, you know, you look at
- 5:16Speaker 1: Tom Coughlin with the when he won with the Giants.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I think it was what ninety he had to have been.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I remember by that single ball he was just hobbling out,
- 5:26Speaker 1: but he had that experience. And you see this all around, Tony,
- 5:30Speaker 1: don't you like? In music, who is the number one
- 5:32Speaker 1: musician in the world right now as we speak, hands down,
- 5:36Speaker 1: Tony Bennett. There you go, say, Tony Bennett, Pete Carroll,
- 5:40Speaker 1: that's how you win, you know, sports, it's how you
- 5:43Speaker 1: win in music. Where Paul and were right, Cosin went
- 5:48Speaker 1: went Conson, went to the commanders. You know, we knew
- 5:51Speaker 1: it all along. You know what this is how you
- 5:54Speaker 1: do with people You know, people have always said, oh,
- 5:57Speaker 1: the Eagles blew it by draft and corson Wentz. No, people, see,
- 6:01Speaker 1: this is what you do. It's called strategy. What you
- 6:03Speaker 1: do is you draft the shittyk you'll be, and then
- 6:07Speaker 1: you convince other teams that he's good, and then you
- 6:11Speaker 1: hope they signed him, especially a division rival signs of
- 6:15Speaker 1: And look, Carson Wentz just fell right into the i
- 6:19Speaker 1: mean commander's hands. That was a close one. And think, yep,
- 6:25Speaker 1: you get to play him twice a year now. Washington
- 6:29Speaker 1: took the bait, punked line and stinker and look at
- 6:33Speaker 1: the Bears. They did the same thing with Mitch true shitsky.
- 6:36Speaker 1: They went to the playoffs, made him look less shitty
- 6:39Speaker 1: than he is, and now he'll be playing for the Giants.
- 6:43Speaker 1: We should see the Bears. That was us. We came
- 6:46Speaker 1: up with that. Yeah, that's infringement to something up there.
- 6:50Speaker 1: But you know, hey, look it's okay because we don't
- 6:53Speaker 1: need to play this game anymore. We got Jaarts, we
- 6:56Speaker 1: got Jalen Hearts, who was a proven winner at all levels.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Legion soon to be pro. Anyway, there you go where
- 7:04Speaker 1: Polly and Tony were right, Let's go off I'll last
- 7:06Speaker 1: one year where Paul and were right? All right, Calvin
- 7:12Speaker 1: Ridley banned for the NF from the NFL for betting
- 7:16Speaker 1: on games for some reason. I don't know what's going
- 7:18Speaker 1: on in because you know, what's the big deal? You
- 7:20Speaker 1: you know, we've said this all along, don'ty Avidly? Players
- 7:23Speaker 1: should be be allowed to bet, especially certain players. You know,
- 7:27Speaker 1: when we watch a game, right, you know, we want
- 7:29Speaker 1: a little action on it, right of course? What what
- 7:32Speaker 1: about the players in the game to right? Of course?
- 7:37Speaker 1: You go, you gotta think about it. Calvin Ridley's out
- 7:39Speaker 1: there playing the Panthers and some ship game nobody gives
- 7:43Speaker 1: a funk about even he doesn't give a fuck, so
- 7:46Speaker 1: he probably goes out to the slot, sees the coverage,
- 7:49Speaker 1: pulls out his cell phone, and bets on the play.
- 7:53Speaker 1: To me, that's smart, So well said, don'ty and you
- 7:57Speaker 1: know this is what I've been saying for is what
- 7:59Speaker 1: we've been And you know, people blame Pete Rose, who
- 8:02Speaker 1: betting on baseball? Why why don't people blame the Cincinnati Reds.
- 8:09Speaker 1: He was fucking bored, he was born. That's Pete Rose.
- 8:12Speaker 1: People who went the World Series in his sleep? Ye
- 8:15Speaker 1: at least Red's beforehand. What do you expect almost got that,
- 8:21Speaker 1: you know, we expect Pete Rose to do. Yeah, people,
- 8:24Speaker 1: he's Sydney, he's gotta keep himself interested. The hit man.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't understand people, I don't get
- 8:33Speaker 1: it at all. Anyway, Oh, all right, we gotta go
- 8:37Speaker 1: because I can see our guest coming on the line,
- 8:40Speaker 1: this fucking guy again. I can't believe we're having him back,
- 8:43Speaker 1: I know. So let's let's bring him on the FUSCO
- 8:45Speaker 1: satellite network. Alright, let's get him in here. Our guest
- 8:54Speaker 1: apparently a best selling author wrote the books about Barry
- 8:58Speaker 1: Bonds Clemens Brett Father. I don't know, I've never read anything.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Who who cause? Anyway? Uh. He is apparently the author
- 9:06Speaker 1: of Showtime, which is the book that the HBO show
- 9:10Speaker 1: Winning Time is somehow based on, which makes absolutely no sense.
- 9:14Speaker 1: But instead of us talking about it, we're just gonna
- 9:16Speaker 1: get him in here. Jeff Perlman, welcome to the show.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Welcome back. Yeah, thank you, thank you, by the way,
- 9:22Speaker 1: thank you for dressing up? Uh yours? What are you rocking?
- 9:27Speaker 1: The guns? What do you you dressed like you just
- 9:30Speaker 1: came from a car wash? You work in there. What's
- 9:32Speaker 1: going on? Winning time is not going well. When you're
- 9:35Speaker 1: a sportswriter, you gotta uh, you gotta always show off
- 9:38Speaker 1: the guns. So alright, well, we'll give you three years
- 9:42Speaker 1: to work on actually getting something. Okay. Anyway, He's like,
- 9:45Speaker 1: hey's what we're doing. We're watching the show Tonty and
- 9:47Speaker 1: I and uh. In the credits it comes up it says,
- 9:51Speaker 1: based on the book Showtime by Jeff Perlman. Now, this
- 9:55Speaker 1: is what I don't understand. These are real events that
- 9:58Speaker 1: happened in real life. Just say, based on real life,
- 10:02Speaker 1: what are you doing taking credit for real things that
- 10:05Speaker 1: had These are real people? Why are you taking credit
- 10:08Speaker 1: for the Lakers? The thing is, um, I don't really
- 10:13Speaker 1: have a good answer. I don't actually know. To be
- 10:15Speaker 1: honest with you, I'm just gonna be honest. It's just
- 10:17Speaker 1: a money making scheme. We we know it. We're making
- 10:21Speaker 1: news as usual. I will tell you I'm so I'm Jewish,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and if you listen to a lot of Donald Trump supporters,
- 10:28Speaker 1: they will tell you accurately that we run the banks
- 10:31Speaker 1: in the world. So it's just another this is where
- 10:34Speaker 1: we do. Don't go changing the subject. First of all,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I mean that it was fact factually correct. But still
- 10:42Speaker 1: we're here to talk about the Lakers. Now. Look, I
- 10:45Speaker 1: just want to say, shouldn't you don't you think that
- 10:47Speaker 1: it should say based on no involvement from Jeff Parliament.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I just I wanted that would be more accurate, that
- 10:53Speaker 1: be accurate. Talking about accuracy, you weren't there. True, I
- 10:58Speaker 1: was not there. But if I did that, how do
- 11:00Speaker 1: I make any money? And how would I afford such
- 11:01Speaker 1: my you know, my wardrobe and such. Therefore, I just
- 11:05Speaker 1: want to say this is important to say. I live
- 11:07Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. You guys live in your little ship
- 11:09Speaker 1: home in Pennsylvania where, oh, here we go, Hollywood elites. Yeah, exactly,
- 11:17Speaker 1: they're talking about that. You're you're you're writing a book
- 11:20Speaker 1: so called. They didn't even hire you to write the script.
- 11:23Speaker 1: No wonder you're begging for money. What happened there? Good?
- 11:28Speaker 1: Why didn't you Why didn't they go to you to
- 11:30Speaker 1: write the script? Maybe it's because they were like, the
- 11:32Speaker 1: book sucks, we got you know. I think what happened
- 11:36Speaker 1: is my first My first script that I submitted was
- 11:39Speaker 1: based on a short story called We Drafted Carson Wentz
- 11:41Speaker 1: Number two. Overall, what am I supposed to do. I
- 11:46Speaker 1: didn't realize your broadcasting live from the laugh Factory. Uh,
- 11:50Speaker 1: you know, maybe you need to work on your materials
- 11:53Speaker 1: as well as your tank top. Now, look, let's just
- 11:55Speaker 1: talk about this because you know, did you see the
- 11:58Speaker 1: movie Lincoln, right, that one with Jerry Lee Lewis? Right?
- 12:01Speaker 1: That wasn't based on a book. Nobody said based on
- 12:05Speaker 1: a book. Yeah, shame on you. It's based on Lincoln exactly.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Don't you think? Don't you think if people look at
- 12:12Speaker 1: this and they're just like this, Jeff Parliament, I mean
- 12:14Speaker 1: you you basically admitted it. You're a money grubbing kind
- 12:17Speaker 1: of hanger on. That's what you are. I thought you're
- 12:20Speaker 1: gonna say, horror, Yes, that is correct. Everything you were
- 12:22Speaker 1: saying is correct. I don't hint any of it, are alright? Alright, well,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you know you're kind of taking the wind out. You
- 12:31Speaker 1: know what, Jeff, I watched this episode. You know, PAULI
- 12:34Speaker 1: only could get through fifteen minutes. I think somehow made
- 12:37Speaker 1: it through the whole thing, and the video quality was
- 12:40Speaker 1: fucking terrible. Where you I mean, it looked like I
- 12:43Speaker 1: was watching like some nineteen seventies porno movie. What you
- 12:47Speaker 1: upset that the budget for this show was so low.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Did HBO like put like twelve cents into this thing?
- 12:53Speaker 1: What happened there? Well, one thing that's interesting is I
- 12:56Speaker 1: actually thought about you guys rather making michell because if
- 12:59Speaker 1: you notice during certain parts of their words on the
- 13:01Speaker 1: bottom of the screen, and I said, we can't have
- 13:03Speaker 1: too many of those. Oh I watched that. There was
- 13:07Speaker 1: math on the screen. You're doing you're doing math. I'm
- 13:10Speaker 1: watching this and it's like you're counting numbers. I'm like,
- 13:13Speaker 1: who wants to do that? Is this? Are you smarter
- 13:15Speaker 1: than a seventh grade or what? Terrible television? Yeah? Exactly.
- 13:19Speaker 1: The first scene there's people that Jerry busses at the
- 13:22Speaker 1: Playboy mansion. Everyone's fucking why don't they just call the show? Yeah?
- 13:26Speaker 1: Why didn't they just call the show fucking time? The
- 13:29Speaker 1: original name of the show is Tits. Actually it was
- 13:32Speaker 1: just Tits. It would have been more a propose. Yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I would have watched that, you know, because I'm watching
- 13:38Speaker 1: this thing. You know, there's all this talking, all this financials.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm like, where's the game? Wait? I thought this was
- 13:44Speaker 1: about basketball. Video I likes, you know, the actual basketball
- 13:49Speaker 1: that's episode two. You gotta wait for episode two for yeah. Sorry,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you know this is how you write his thinking. But
- 13:55Speaker 1: then you know we've discussed this with you before previous episode.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, you're in the business of wrong form. Now
- 14:02Speaker 1: people call it long form. We call it wrong form
- 14:05Speaker 1: because you you're always like, yeah, don't worry, We're gonna
- 14:09Speaker 1: take three years to get to the story. Enjoy that
- 14:12Speaker 1: long journey. You know, this is why you broke Permanent,
- 14:14Speaker 1: because you're you're taken so much time to churn out
- 14:17Speaker 1: your content. We're on YouTube, we're on podcasts, and they's
- 14:21Speaker 1: gonna be out tomorrow morning. Boom. Yeah, no editing, no, no,
- 14:26Speaker 1: you you know you're going stopping over there. You can't
- 14:29Speaker 1: even afford a real shirt. We're not waiting thirty years
- 14:32Speaker 1: to talk about Ben Simmons. We're talking about Ben Simmons
- 14:37Speaker 1: now today. But do you think do you think my
- 14:41Speaker 1: books should maybe three or four pages instead of two hundreds.
- 14:44Speaker 1: I just like maybe narrow down or more pictures, more pictures.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I haven't read the book, but I would assume that
- 14:51Speaker 1: would be a good step in your right direction. You
- 14:52Speaker 1: know exactly. If you're looking for suggestions, let me give
- 14:55Speaker 1: you a suggestion. You keep writing about things that happened
- 14:59Speaker 1: twenty th now, like is forty years ago? What, as
- 15:03Speaker 1: Tony said, why don't you try writing about things happening now?
- 15:06Speaker 1: You know, you put out a book on Brooklyn, Ben
- 15:09Speaker 1: Simmons in Brooklyn, then a million copies. Yeah, Ben Simmons
- 15:13Speaker 1: returns to Philly. You write that tonight, tomorrow done, sold out.
- 15:18Speaker 1: You're still writing a book about Allen Iverson's return to
- 15:20Speaker 1: Philly's triumphant returned to Philly. That's okay, okay, that's good.
- 15:24Speaker 1: You know, keep talking that. What are you gonna what
- 15:27Speaker 1: are you gonna write about that heroic, heroic stretch of
- 15:30Speaker 1: a career, the triumphant, triumphing come back. You know you
- 15:36Speaker 1: want to focus on the negative and you want to that.
- 15:39Speaker 1: You want to do it gossip, tell us, tell us
- 15:43Speaker 1: what you do with it. Go, let's hear it. Allen
- 15:45Speaker 1: Iverson's triumphant return. It doesn't work out with Denver, it
- 15:48Speaker 1: doesn't work out with Detroit, but he's back in Philly.
- 15:50Speaker 1: It doesn't work out in Memphis, but he's back in Philly,
- 15:53Speaker 1: better and fatter than ever. And he's like, I'm gonna
- 15:55Speaker 1: lead this bad team to the championship. And yes, let
- 15:58Speaker 1: me finish. He doesn't leave the team to the championship,
- 16:01Speaker 1: that is true, but he leads him to the buffet line.
- 16:03Speaker 1: And Ron Allen Iverson is on that buffet line and
- 16:05Speaker 1: he's eating and he sees the pudding. He's exciting for
- 16:07Speaker 1: the pudding. And that's the worst idea. Yeah, in the year,
- 16:15Speaker 1: at the time, at the right you go. We put
- 16:17Speaker 1: out a YouTube video with the book of Alan Iverson
- 16:20Speaker 1: eating a lot of pudding and we call the book,
- 16:23Speaker 1: wait for it, Alan Iverson loves pudding. I'll tell you
- 16:27Speaker 1: what I'm I'm gotta call them. Jeff Perlman is out
- 16:31Speaker 1: of fucking ideas. And I don't you know what. You're
- 16:34Speaker 1: so fucking disrespectful. You're making fun of his weight. I'm
- 16:37Speaker 1: looking at you right now. I can kill you one
- 16:40Speaker 1: you with one finger. Yeah, you remind me of the
- 16:43Speaker 1: chicken I ate last night when I was done all
- 16:46Speaker 1: He's got his orange belt and Kravmaga. He would kill
- 16:49Speaker 1: you in two seconds, you know, Jeff, Jeff, I'm a
- 16:52Speaker 1: little worried about you. I gotta say, because you know
- 16:54Speaker 1: you're complaining you don't have enough money and you have
- 16:56Speaker 1: a family too. You gotta take care of them. Yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 1: we want to fuel. We're gonna help you. Why but
- 17:02Speaker 1: we want to help me. Just ask you, Jeff, so
- 17:04Speaker 1: you don't waste any more your time writing these shitty
- 17:06Speaker 1: books and killing your career. Yeah, what other ideas do
- 17:09Speaker 1: you have? Just let us know what? Do you have
- 17:12Speaker 1: any books coming up? Like? Really, do you have any
- 17:14Speaker 1: actual series books coming up? We're gonna help I have
- 17:18Speaker 1: a book I want to write. It's the Freddie Mitchell story. No, whoa, whoa?
- 17:22Speaker 1: Hold on? Hold on, wait, alright, let's say jump the gun.
- 17:26Speaker 1: You get here. Yeah, I'm a first round draft pick
- 17:28Speaker 1: out of U c l A. The users are excited.
- 17:31Speaker 1: We start with Freddie Mitchell on training camp, dropping past
