- 1:59Speaker 1: edition of Sky's coverage, we will be diving into what
- 2:02Speaker 1: to watch for at the Buffalo Bills Blue and Red
- 2:05Speaker 1: Scrimmage that takes place tomorrow, Saturday, August eighth, seven pm Eastern,
- 2:11Speaker 1: the first event in the new high Mark Stadium. I
- 2:17Speaker 1: know Jinks will be going to that tomorrow, so I
- 2:20Speaker 1: will likely be doing a Blue and Red Scrimmage post
- 2:23Speaker 1: game post scrimmage episode.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Tomorrow night after I get home from that.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Scrimmage goes from seven to nine, so we'll see how
- 2:32Speaker 1: long it takes me to mosey on back to the
- 2:35Speaker 1: fort and record some stuff tomorrow night.
- 2:37Speaker 3: But we'll get some of that tomorrow night as well.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm excited for the scrimmage, you know, it's it's one
- 2:43Speaker 1: more step closer to the preseason. The preseason is one
- 2:47Speaker 1: more step closer to real football. To Andy's comment earlier,
- 2:51Speaker 1: I answered this in the comments, but it looks like
- 2:54Speaker 1: it didn't pop up. I don't think there's a way
- 2:55Speaker 1: to stream the Red and Blue Scrimmage. I think you're
- 2:59Speaker 1: gonna either there or you're relying on people posting videos
- 3:03Speaker 1: or tweeting or blue skying, whatever it is. I will
- 3:07Speaker 1: be live posting while I am there. I should. I
- 3:12Speaker 1: used to have a horrible service a bunch everywhere I
- 3:16Speaker 1: was in the old high Mark Stadium.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I hope my service is better now.
- 3:20Speaker 1: But yeah, I will be live tweeting and posting on
- 3:22Speaker 1: Blue sky with anything and everything I possibly can at
- 3:25Speaker 1: the scrimmage tomorrow and then using a bunch of that
- 3:28Speaker 1: and some other notes, I'll be keeping on the side
- 3:30Speaker 1: to do a scrimmage post game post scrimmage.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Episode tomorrow night.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But yeah, I am sincerely excited for the scrimmage again,
- 3:38Speaker 1: one more step closer to real football. But I also think,
- 3:41Speaker 1: you know, as camp has showed us a little bit,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and you know, kind of as we knew going into camp,
- 3:46Speaker 1: there were certain position groups where there was gonna be
- 3:48Speaker 1: some competition. There was certain roles within this Bills team
- 3:52Speaker 1: that had to be solidified. There were certain battles amongst
- 3:55Speaker 1: certain guys that you know, we kind of for saw
- 4:01Speaker 1: happening in camp. But then camp has also given us,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you know, some added competition, some added battles, some new
- 4:08Speaker 1: names we have kind of maybe made their way onto
- 4:11Speaker 1: the radar. And now get you know, the first real
- 4:14Speaker 1: you know real in quotes, opportunity to kind of cement
- 4:18Speaker 1: themselves a little bit and you know, push themselves further
- 4:20Speaker 1: in the eyes of the coaching staff and and the
- 4:23Speaker 1: fans potentially as well, and everybody who covers the team.
- 4:26Speaker 3: And then preseason furthers that even more.
- 4:29Speaker 1: And then you know, if you if you shine in
- 4:31Speaker 1: enough of those situations, you get an opportunity to come
- 4:33Speaker 1: regular season time. And so, yeah, the scrimmage has given
- 4:37Speaker 1: some good nuggets the past couple of years. I think
- 4:38Speaker 1: some you know, it's not just you know what helmet
- 4:41Speaker 1: is Josh Allen wearing and ooh what does it mean?
- 4:43Speaker 3: But there has been, you know, some good performances.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Guys have kind of planning a flag a little bit
- 4:48Speaker 1: at the scrimmage these past several years and then use
- 4:51Speaker 1: that to either as like a stepping stone or as
- 4:56Speaker 1: a way to continue the momentum, or just the hey,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I'm here, look what I'm doing, and everybody be like, oh,
- 5:01Speaker 1: maybe we need to pay more attention to this guy.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden, more things start to happen,
- 5:04Speaker 1: and more things start to happen, as we do here
- 5:07Speaker 1: on the show, question, thoughts, comments, concerns, anything and everything
- 5:10Speaker 1: you folks have put it up into the chat. As always,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I like to make the show as engaging as possible,
- 5:17Speaker 1: So anything you got, put it up into the chat.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I will make my way through anything and everything as
- 5:22Speaker 1: physically possible as I can. As always, super chats get priority,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and so, you know, one because I respect him on
- 5:29Speaker 1: Terarry donation, but two because the color distracts me from
- 5:32Speaker 1: my notes and gets me back and focused here. Appreciate
- 5:37Speaker 1: RJ already being in here saying hey, and he said
- 5:39Speaker 1: they should just televise that they would break it numbers. Yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 1: they probably would if they if they put this on
- 5:44Speaker 1: local television, it would do numbers. I would also appreciate
- 5:49Speaker 1: that so that I wouldn't feel like forced into going
- 5:51Speaker 1: every year, because that's really the only way to see it.
- 5:53Speaker 1: But yeah, I think that's a fair point. Laura says,
- 5:57Speaker 1: what up? An, what's up? Laura? She says, I'll be
- 5:59Speaker 1: there too, so excited. Didn't think i'd get to see
- 6:01Speaker 1: the stadium this year, and it hits that with a
- 6:04Speaker 1: ya at the end within all caps. Yeah, it'll be
- 6:07Speaker 1: pretty cool. I think it's uh, you know, I know
- 6:09Speaker 1: it's not not preseason, it's not regular season, but this
- 6:12Speaker 1: is the first event in the new stadium, and so
- 6:15Speaker 1: I think that's a pretty cool thing to be a
- 6:16Speaker 1: part of. So, yeah, enjoy your time there. I hope
- 6:19Speaker 1: we have a good time. Laura follows it up by saying,
- 6:21Speaker 1: I'm so excited, especially for the dbs, but the defense
- 6:25Speaker 1: in general. I'll be talking about several aspects of the
- 6:28Speaker 1: defense individually, position groups, and as a whole tonight. In
- 6:32Speaker 1: this episode, Mark says it will be great seeing fans
- 6:35Speaker 1: in the new stadium.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Tomorrow as the Bills have their annual scrimmage.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yem interested to see kind of what the new stadium
- 6:41Speaker 1: looks like, what the digs look like. William, what's up?
- 6:43Speaker 3: William Williams is hello, mister, And I'm.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Curious to see or read reports of who are the
- 6:48Speaker 1: starting defensive tackles. Yeah, I'm interested to see when they
- 6:52Speaker 1: go into their odd front looks, when they go in
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know, qute unquote based defense, Who are the starting
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know, defensive ends. Who is the star nos, especially
- 7:01Speaker 1: with Dion Walker essentially having a rap on his left elbow,
- 7:07Speaker 1: so you know, how much does he play if not
- 7:09Speaker 1: at all? And then what does that rotation look like
- 7:11Speaker 1: behind him? I think defensive tackle is one to watch
- 7:13Speaker 1: in general, like after Dion Walker, who's getting in, who's
- 7:17Speaker 1: with the twos, who's with the threes, how are they performing?
- 7:19Speaker 1: So on and so forth all the way down the line.
- 7:23Speaker 1: But this was a potential, like worrisome situation that I
- 7:25Speaker 1: talked about during the offseason where I wanted them to
- 7:28Speaker 1: reinforce the defensive tackle spot. I wanted them to add
- 7:32Speaker 1: a displacement mitigator and monster of a dude doesn't have
- 7:36Speaker 1: to be huge, but a run based defensive tackle to
- 7:39Speaker 1: pair with Dion Walker. Not only did they not do that,
- 7:43Speaker 1: they really didn't reinforce the defensive tackle spot in general.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So then my other worry with the defensive tackle spot
- 7:48Speaker 1: was if Dion Walker goes down or the nose tackle spot,
- 7:52Speaker 1: I should say, if Deyon Walker goes down, what do
- 7:54Speaker 1: you do? Same thing with if at Oliver goes down,
- 7:56Speaker 1: what do you do? And now you're in kind of
- 7:57Speaker 1: the same boat as you were last year. So I'm worried.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I'm worried. I'm worried. I'm worried. John Roberts says, do
- 8:04Speaker 1: you think a Caleb elarms or will start at linebacker.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I'm interested to see. It depends on how healthy Bernard
- 8:10Speaker 1: and Dorian Williams are, and that's one of the things
- 8:15Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about here. I kind of want to
- 8:17Speaker 1: know what the pecking order is. I want to see
- 8:19Speaker 1: what happens tomorrow night, and then obviously preseason and then
- 8:21Speaker 1: come regular season. Andy says, they did say the WiFi
- 8:24Speaker 1: is ready to handle a full crowd, unlike the old stadium. Yeah,
- 8:27Speaker 1: though I don't know if it was all like just
- 8:29Speaker 1: where I would sit or all the concrete, if it
- 8:31Speaker 1: was metal or what it was causing interference, But yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Wi Fi would be janky for me. But then
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'd be sitting next to people who had the same
- 8:39Speaker 1: mobile service as me and like their regular signal would
- 8:44Speaker 1: be good, or they connected the Wi Fi and to
- 8:45Speaker 1: be fine. So sometimes I was like, is it my phone?
- 8:47Speaker 1: Is it me?
- 8:47Speaker 3: Like, what's happening here?
- 8:49Speaker 1: I'm glad to hear I did not hear about that WiFi,
- 8:51Speaker 1: so I'm very appreciative of that.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Good to know, Good to.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Know all right, questions, thoughts, commons, concerns, Maxim's theorems, philosophy's ideologies.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Feel free to put it up in to the chat
- 9:00Speaker 1: we're going to dive into what to watch for at
- 9:04Speaker 1: the Bills Blue and Red scrimmage tomorrow. I don't have
- 9:08Speaker 1: these in any particular order. I just put together notes
- 9:10Speaker 1: of you know, where my head is at. I guess
- 9:12Speaker 1: maybe subconsciously I started with things that are the most important.
- 9:15Speaker 1: But to go to John Roberts thought or question there
- 9:19Speaker 1: where he said, you know, do you think Caleb elarms
- 9:21Speaker 1: or will start at linebacker? One of the first things
- 9:24Speaker 1: I do want to see is what is the linebacker rotation?
- 9:28Speaker 1: You know is and it kind of can we get
- 9:31Speaker 1: any breadcrumbs from that? You know, if it's if it's
- 9:34Speaker 1: Bernard in or is it because Dorny Williams isn't ready
- 9:38Speaker 1: to go? If it's Orin Jenkins, I would assume that
- 9:42Speaker 1: means Williams and Bernard are both unable to go, right
- 9:47Speaker 1: If I think those are like the two biggest scenarios.
- 9:50Speaker 1: If I'm for me personally, I'm assuming to raw Bernard starts,
- 9:55Speaker 1: whether it's Mike, whether it's whether it's will whatever it is,
- 10:02Speaker 1: I'm assuming Torel Bernard starts. I just don't think they're
- 10:05Speaker 1: gonna get away from trol Bernard starting. That doesn't mean
- 10:06Speaker 1: Dorian Williams can't work in. That doesn't mean kaylebb E
- 10:08Speaker 1: larms or can't work in. I assume Terrell Bernard is
- 10:13Speaker 1: going to start. So I do want to see the rotation,
- 10:17Speaker 1: especially if all three guys are able to go, Like
- 10:19Speaker 1: if Bernard is good, Dorian's good, el arms Or is good,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and we've seen Bernard and Dorrian ramp up each day
- 10:25Speaker 1: in camp, including this week, and start to get more
- 10:26Speaker 1: action with pads on. So is it Bernard and Dorian one? Two?
- 10:32Speaker 1: How much does kaylebe alarms or work in with them?
- 10:34Speaker 1: With the ones? And then three? Who's working at will,
- 10:39Speaker 1: who's working at mike? I noted that a ton on.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I think it was day three of camp. You know,
- 10:44Speaker 1: Bernard and Or in there together, and Or was at
- 10:47Speaker 1: the mic, and Bernard was at the WILL. And then
- 10:48Speaker 1: even at the end of practice when it was Dorian
- 10:50Speaker 1: and Bernard, Dorrian was at the mic, Bernard was still
- 10:53Speaker 1: at WILL. Now, it could be rotational. They could be
- 10:56Speaker 1: just trying to get guys in different spots and different
- 10:59Speaker 1: looks and test some things out and install and do
- 11:01Speaker 1: fun things. It could be that that's exactly what they're thinking,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and Bernard is going to be the will going forward.
- 11:09Speaker 1: But I'm interested to see, you know, if it is
- 11:11Speaker 1: Bernard and Dorian, whose will, Who's mike if it's Bernard
- 11:14Speaker 1: and e or who's the will, who's the mic? If
- 11:18Speaker 1: it's Orent Dorian, I'm well, if it's Oorent Doorian, I
- 11:21Speaker 1: would assume or it would be the mic. And then yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I'm interested to kind of see what's the rotation like
- 11:25Speaker 1: overall and who is playing what. Oh, Jay Ham appreciate you,
- 11:30Speaker 1: He says, Uh, it was cool seeing you on the
- 11:32Speaker 1: Rock Pile Report. Yeah. I always enjoy hanging out with
- 11:34Speaker 1: those dudes. It's fun doing multiple episodes there and getting
- 11:37Speaker 1: some one pie pizza. It's an easy way to get
- 11:38Speaker 1: me over there. They're like, hey, do you want to
- 11:39Speaker 1: talk football? Also, will give you the best pizza in Buffalo.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I'm like to sign me up easy check Mark. Yeah,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I appreciate you. Seeing in the comments, I was cool, Oh,
- 11:47Speaker 1: this is a good deal with detail.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I didn't know this.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Rjie. I don't know if you're telling the truth or
- 11:50Speaker 1: you pulling my like here. But Argie says it's going
- 11:52Speaker 1: to be the fastest stadium network slash Wi Fi network
- 11:55Speaker 1: in the league. They used all caps, all the fiber
- 11:59Speaker 1: optic cables the stadium. This makes me feel really good.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I feel and then I'm gonna ask a real stupid question.
- 12:05Speaker 1: It's just like I'm just so I should hop on
- 12:08Speaker 1: the Wi Fi. I'm hopping on like the free Wi
- 12:10Speaker 1: Fi whatever it is. It's like Buffalo Bill's guest, I
- 12:13Speaker 1: should hop on that and use that to do all
- 12:17Speaker 1: my posts and tweets and blue sky stuff. Is that
- 12:21Speaker 1: that's what I am. If that's what you are.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Putting down, that is what I'm picking up.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Williams says, I don't think I saw any positive reports
- 12:28Speaker 1: about the defensive ends or outside linebackers or defensive tackles
- 12:31Speaker 1: during camp, which is concerning, even though they have barely
- 12:33Speaker 1: warn pads.
- 12:34Speaker 3: I remember usually getting some reports.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I saw some flashes for t J. Sanders, but we're
- 12:37Speaker 1: gonna get into this a bit. John Robert says, I
- 12:40Speaker 1: have heard Jenkins can be good depth. I think can Keyonta.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Jenkins had some flashes last year. I do think he's
- 12:46Speaker 1: played well in camp. I do think he can be
- 12:47Speaker 1: good depth. Oh Andy says huge server and network racks
- 12:50Speaker 1: in the server room too. Oh, there's a lot of
- 12:52Speaker 1: stuff going on here. This is fun. Bella Rose says,
- 12:55Speaker 1: is the game televised tomorrow? Note I do not believe, so,
- 12:58Speaker 1: Roy says, more of a practice than a screen. Yeah,
- 13:01Speaker 1: it's you know, it's nobody's gonna take anybody to ground, right,
- 13:07Speaker 1: So no one's tackling full but they are given a
- 13:10Speaker 1: good thud and they are going full tilt when the
- 13:13Speaker 1: ball's in the air.
- 13:14Speaker 3: It is guys trying to shed blocks. They are gonna
- 13:16Speaker 3: be wearing pads.
- 13:17Speaker 1: They are gonna be hitting each other, so you're not
- 13:19Speaker 1: gonna get guys tackle on the ball carrier.
- 13:21Speaker 3: But it's full everything else.
- 13:24Speaker 1: So from a trench standpoint, everybody's wearing pads and guys
- 13:28Speaker 1: are really gonna be mashed at each other.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Oh.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Ur.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Just as they talked about the Wi Fi.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Network and one of the stadium build videos, I appreciate
- 13:34Speaker 1: r Ju and Andy giving me all the insight on
- 13:36Speaker 1: the Wi Fi stuff.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I did not not know that. So yeah, I'm excited
- 13:40Speaker 3: to give that a try, and thank you very much.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Within the linebackers, which we talked about a little bit
- 13:45Speaker 1: going into the comment earlier from Laura about the DB's corner.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think is really interesting, really straightforward, though. I just
- 13:57Speaker 1: want to see corner two through four and how does
- 13:59Speaker 1: it shake out. For the first three days of camp,
- 14:05Speaker 1: it was Max Harston CB two, CB two, CB two.
- 14:11Speaker 1: That was it. It was no like, oh, is it
- 14:12Speaker 1: a rotation with him and Davison Aiguanosen. No, it was
- 14:15Speaker 1: Max Harrison with CB two and Benford with CB one.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Benford is CB one that is not negotiable in any way,
- 14:20Speaker 1: shape or form, That is not going to be changed.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Nothing's gonna happen there. So Benford is CB one.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Does Max Harrison shakeout as the CB two and stays
- 14:29Speaker 1: the CB two?
- 14:30Speaker 2: Oh?
- 14:30Speaker 1: I don't know why this camera keeps going in and
- 14:31Speaker 1: out striving me insane? So is Max the CB two
- 14:36Speaker 1: or is it still maybe open? A little bit like
- 14:38Speaker 1: is Davison Agbanosen getting some reps with the ones? Is maybe?
- 14:41Speaker 3: Can I Walker get some reps with the ones?
- 14:43Speaker 1: But it starts with two? Is Max the CB two?
- 14:46Speaker 1: Or is that still open? After that? Does can I
- 14:50Speaker 1: Walker stay relevant? I started noting him. It feels like
- 14:53Speaker 1: he's kind of a buzz a buzzword name now at
- 14:56Speaker 1: this point within camp, but I noted Walker on day one,
- 15:02Speaker 1: Day two, and Day three, like making some plays on
- 15:05Speaker 1: the ball, good spatial awareness and coverage. He played for
- 15:08Speaker 1: Javeli at Oklahoma. He's big, he's physical, he's nasty, he
- 15:14Speaker 1: likes to hit, he will play through contact, and you
- 15:17Speaker 1: know he's familiar with Velai's philosophy, identity, coaching, style, structure,
- 15:21Speaker 1: everything like that. I even went so far as to say, like,
- 15:25Speaker 1: if I had to base it off, the first three
- 15:26Speaker 1: days of camp, it felt like can I Walker was
- 15:28Speaker 1: almost more of CB three than Davison Ningbnosen was. So
- 15:33Speaker 1: I'm interested to see now that again bullets are kind
- 15:35Speaker 1: of a little more live, what does can I Walker
- 15:39Speaker 1: look like further? You know, he was working as even
- 15:43Speaker 1: when he was with the second unit the first week
- 15:45Speaker 1: of camp, he was getting work against you know, Kean Coleman,
- 15:48Speaker 1: he was getting work against Josh Palmer, he was getting
- 15:50Speaker 1: work against Skyler Bell. So I'm interested to see what
- 15:54Speaker 1: that looks like as we start to get further and
- 15:56Speaker 1: get closer. He's gonna be another name for me to
- 15:58Speaker 1: watch two in the preseason, base on what happens on
- 16:00Speaker 1: the scrimmage a little bit too. I mean, I don't
- 16:03Speaker 1: expect Benford to play a lot in the preseason. I
- 16:06Speaker 1: think Harrison will play a little bit, provided he's healthy
- 16:08Speaker 1: and not too banged up. But I expect, you know,
- 16:11Speaker 1: can I Walker and Igbinosen are gonna get a ton
- 16:13Speaker 1: of reps at corner, so we'll see him a ton
- 16:15Speaker 1: of the.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Preseason no matter what.
- 16:16Speaker 1: But yeah, I am interested, to say the least, to
- 16:21Speaker 1: see what can I Walker can do. You can never never, never, never, never,
- 16:24Speaker 1: never never have enough corner depth, and it will be funny. Maybe,
- 16:29Speaker 1: you know, I mean, Walker's an undrafted free agent and
- 16:32Speaker 1: Benford was a sixth round pick. But maybe it's another
- 16:34Speaker 1: you know, kyri Elam Christian Benford year, and this time
- 16:37Speaker 1: it's CANi Walker and Davison Aigbanosen where the you know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: the higher level pick. Again, it's not the same because
- 16:43Speaker 1: it's Igbinosen was the second rounder and Canai was an
- 16:46Speaker 1: undrafted free agent. Kayr was a first round pick. Benford
- 16:49Speaker 1: was a six so it's not the exact same. But
- 16:51Speaker 1: maybe this idea of like another you know, kind of
- 16:54Speaker 1: unknown corner makes a name supplants the guy who should
- 16:58Speaker 1: be ahead of him on the depth art quote, it's
- 17:00Speaker 1: funny you know, just maybe seeing some of those parallels Grant.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Sean mcdermy's not here anymore, and he was so great
- 17:04Speaker 1: with developing the secondary players. But yeah, we'll see, we
- 17:09Speaker 1: will see. James says, I believe it's this episode that
- 17:12Speaker 1: they dive into it. Okay, fair enough, I'm gonna have
- 17:13Speaker 1: take a look at this the last bill stuff, just
- 17:16Speaker 1: to see all the Wi Fi stuff. John Roberts says
- 17:19Speaker 1: Max Heherson didn't practice today. Charles says Max getting cooked
- 17:22Speaker 1: by Keon doesn't look good when Week one is Nico
- 17:25Speaker 1: and Higgins.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, reference to the Texans wide receivers in Week one.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Nico Collins, who for me is a top five wide
- 17:31Speaker 1: receiver in the league, has been for the past several years.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Injuries have made people forget about him, but they should
- 17:38Speaker 1: not forget about him. And then yeah, Jayden Higgins, second
- 17:41Speaker 1: year receiver out of Iowa State. Yeah, Max, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: I mean, ironically, Higgins is the name there. Yeah, Max
- 17:48Speaker 1: against bigger bodied receivers, struggled a bit, to say the least,
- 17:52Speaker 1: against t Higgins at home against Cincinnati last year. But again,
- 18:01Speaker 1: the leather, the snow, the wind, it was really tough
- 18:03Speaker 1: for Harrison in that game in general, and you know
- 18:06Speaker 1: rookie season not getting a lot of time on task
- 18:08Speaker 1: early enough at that point you got he out all
- 18:09Speaker 1: these variables. But yeah, I am interested to see what
- 18:11Speaker 1: happens uh with Harriston to say the least, and how
- 18:14Speaker 1: much of a stranglehold or not does he have on
- 18:17Speaker 1: the CB two spot. Yeah, Roy says, Walker is this
- 18:20Speaker 1: year's Camp darling with like you know, the thinking emoji. Yeah. Usually, uh,
- 18:26Speaker 1: once somebody who's unknown gets on the radar, everybody just
- 18:32Speaker 1: echoes the same thing. And even if people aren't watching
- 18:35Speaker 1: can I Walker? It's like, oh, hey, if you heard like, oh,
- 18:38Speaker 1: who's somebody that stands out for you? And they're like, oh,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know, can I Walker? And then you ask him
- 18:42Speaker 1: why or how? And they don't speak to anything because
- 18:44Speaker 1: everybody's just it's an echo chamber and everybody just pairs
- 18:46Speaker 1: the same thing. But yeah, he is. He is the buzzword.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I feel like one of the buzzwords of Camp. It's
- 18:52Speaker 1: like somebody having a conference at a big corporation and
- 18:55Speaker 1: using buzzwords like oh, synergy and all these.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Type of words to kind of get the people going.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Uh.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Andy says, if I be if I GB is looking competent.
- 19:04Speaker 1: By week one, he might get more time on the
- 19:05Speaker 1: field against the big Houston wide receivers.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Maybe yeah, I don't know.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I'm interested to see how they both look. I think,
- 19:15Speaker 1: you know, I Nico Collins is gonna be a problem
- 19:17Speaker 1: for anybody no matter what, because again I think he's
- 19:19Speaker 1: got he's the prototypical X and he's a legit wide
- 19:23Speaker 1: receiver one in terms of size, frame traits.
- 19:27Speaker 3: But then also the skill set and how good he is.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Jayden Higgins is one that I do think is interesting
- 19:32Speaker 1: because I would take you know, Igbinosen up against Higgins
- 19:34Speaker 1: and put him in press and just be like, hey,
- 19:36Speaker 1: just go fight fire with fire and try and beat
- 19:37Speaker 1: the hell out of him the whole time. But then
- 19:39Speaker 1: also from a footwork standpoint, the speed standpoint, you know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: Max might be able to just stay step for step
- 19:45Speaker 1: and stay sticky and stay in Higgins's pocket. It'll be interesting.
- 19:48Speaker 3: It'll uh, it'll be interesting.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Bum bum Bum Jam says you should collab with the
- 19:55Speaker 1: Post Podium podcast. Would love your insight on the defense
- 19:58Speaker 1: being a mint defense. I don't, I don't know if
- 20:00Speaker 1: I know what the post party, post potty, post Podium
- 20:03Speaker 1: podcast is. But you said you're inside on the defense
- 20:07Speaker 1: being a mint defense, so oh man, I could do
- 20:10Speaker 1: a long conversation on this. So the mint defense is
- 20:13Speaker 1: somewhat similar to the tight front defense that Jim Leonard
- 20:18Speaker 1: runs from an inside three perspective. Like you both defenses,
- 20:23Speaker 1: you have a four eye, you have two four eyes
- 20:25Speaker 1: and then a nose. A four eye is the alignment
- 20:28Speaker 1: position label for somebody who's on the inside shoulder of
- 20:32Speaker 1: a tackle. So that interior three you've got guys affecting
- 20:36Speaker 1: the B gaps because the B gap is the gap
- 20:38Speaker 1: between the guards and the tackles. So you've got two
- 20:42Speaker 1: four eyes in both the mint and tight fronts two
- 20:47Speaker 1: four eyes and then you've got a nose. The difference
- 20:49Speaker 1: is with the mint stuff the fourth guy on the
- 20:52Speaker 1: line of scrimmage, like you know, the jack as it's
- 20:55Speaker 1: labeled at least by you know, Kirby Smart and Georgia,
- 20:58Speaker 1: and again a lot of this mint stuff, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 1: it's kind of popularized and put out everywhere by Saban
- 21:03Speaker 1: and then Kirby Smart and Georgia just really leaned into
- 21:06Speaker 1: it a ton and then tied it in with simulated.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Pressures and creeper pressures and this whole philosophy.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And then that that coaching clinic made its way onto YouTube,
- 21:14Speaker 1: so everybody and their mother was watching it and checking
- 21:16Speaker 1: it out. But I think it's similar from an interior
- 21:21Speaker 1: like the base defense for the Bills being the tight
- 21:24Speaker 1: front like and we'll see how much of that happens,
- 21:27Speaker 1: right like, But Jim Leonard did that at Wisconsin. Four eye,
- 21:31Speaker 1: a nose which is a zero line head up on
- 21:33Speaker 1: the center, and then another four eye. But you could
- 21:35Speaker 1: also either have like a bit of a of an
- 21:37Speaker 1: eagle front like the Broncos used. It could be strong
- 21:40Speaker 1: or weak, and essentially all that is is you still
- 21:43Speaker 1: have a four eye, but then you take the nose
- 21:46Speaker 1: and he becomes a shade, so a one tech. And
- 21:49Speaker 1: then you take the other four eye and he'll become
- 21:51Speaker 1: a three tech so on the outside shoulder of the
- 21:53Speaker 1: garden kind of pull bump everybody down a little bit.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, Mint and tight again,
- 22:00Speaker 1: tight being what Jim Leonard ran at Wisconsin. Mint being
- 22:05Speaker 1: a very similar I would probably say like cousin or
- 22:10Speaker 1: you know, maybe a distant brother to it. It's just
- 22:13Speaker 1: it you're changing. You just change what you do with
- 22:16Speaker 1: that fourth down, fourth down rusher kind of who's dropping,
- 22:20Speaker 1: who's coming off, what you're doing, and tight Front is
- 22:23Speaker 1: more specifically tied to those three interior guys. MINT gets
- 22:28Speaker 1: into what that jack position is doing, and then the
- 22:31Speaker 1: backers and everything kind of it takes it even further
- 22:34Speaker 1: where I've Mint is more of like an entire package.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Tight is more of just the front. I think the
- 22:41Speaker 1: Bills defense will be more tight front than they are
- 22:44Speaker 1: Mint package especially, and more of a more tight front
- 22:49Speaker 1: as opposed to being a MINT defense, especially given the
- 22:51Speaker 1: personnel that they haven't. I don't think that's too possible,
- 22:56Speaker 1: but I do expect some type front stuff. Very good question.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Bomb bomb by, I don't know.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Laura says yes, and in a post podium podcast collaborative fire,
- 23:07Speaker 1: I don't know what that is.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to take a.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Peek, Charles says Walker his are Charles Demings. John Robert
- 23:13Speaker 1: says I heard Toriano Pride Junior has played well in
- 23:15Speaker 1: practice so far. I haven't noticed him too much. That
- 23:16Speaker 1: doesn't mean he has no good. It just I can't
- 23:18Speaker 1: speak to it myself.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Uh.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Question about bass, I'm not I don't. I just think
- 23:25Speaker 1: bass has the yips. I'm gonna wait to see him kick.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I kind of leave it at that. H come in
- 23:31Speaker 1: here saying, man, I'm beyond excited to hopefully see some
- 23:33Speaker 1: stickier coverage. This here, watching teams constantly convert on third
- 23:36Speaker 1: down week after week with easy pitch and catch throws
- 23:38Speaker 1: is brutal. I am hoping for this defense to restrict
- 23:40Speaker 1: some airspace and I'm expecting it. I'm expecting it. Roy
- 23:44Speaker 1: says Harrison should get help over the top from the safeties,
- 23:47Speaker 1: personally not too concerned. In reference to the Week one
- 23:49Speaker 1: matchup against the Texans wide receivers, Ralph says worries about
- 23:53Speaker 1: left guard. We will be getting to left guard for sure.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Comment here saying, oh, over under three games before Caleb
- 24:02Speaker 1: larms or takes over a starting linebacker position, And for me,
- 24:04Speaker 1: it's tough. It depends on what you mean by takes over,
- 24:07Speaker 1: like is he taking over because someone's performing bad or
- 24:09Speaker 1: because someone gets hurt. I think three games is fair
- 24:12Speaker 1: because Bernard has a somewhat of an injury history, and
- 24:14Speaker 1: so does Dorian Williams. Yeah, I'm gonna say over because
- 24:24Speaker 1: I think it'll be like four. Oh you say either, Yeah,
- 24:28Speaker 1: that's fair. Yeah, I would. I think I'm gonna say over.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna say four.
- 24:33Speaker 3: I like literally four games.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Like if you did, oh put the over under three
- 24:36Speaker 1: and a half, I take the over in because I
- 24:38Speaker 1: think it's gonna be four. But I mean that's very
- 24:40Speaker 1: close to being three. That's a fair question, fair point,
- 24:42Speaker 1: fair thought. Yeah, let's talk about left guard. You know,
- 24:49Speaker 1: Ralph says, worries about left guard. I just talk about
- 24:51Speaker 1: it now.
- 24:52Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I'm worried from the perspective of like one and a
- 24:57Speaker 1: half spots that it counts for because in a vacuum,
- 25:01Speaker 1: you just need a starting left guard.
- 25:02Speaker 3: So who's gonna be the starting left guard?
- 25:04Speaker 1: But then, as I've said before on the show, like
- 25:07Speaker 1: the chain reaction and butterfly effect, however, we want to,
- 25:10Speaker 1: you know, proverbially label it the impact on Dion Dawkins
- 25:13Speaker 1: a left tackle. David Edwards was a good left guard,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and he was also a good teammate for Dion Dawkins
- 25:19Speaker 1: in terms of getting him set. And he was a
- 25:21Speaker 1: good teammate to the other guy next to him, which
- 25:23Speaker 1: was Connor McGovern at center. McGovern and Edwards calling out
- 25:26Speaker 1: fronts and structures and making adjustments and communicating and kind
- 25:30Speaker 1: of setting things right. You had a real sound brain
- 25:34Speaker 1: trust there at center and left guard, and then that
- 25:37Speaker 1: left guard was also just a good player, and that
- 25:40Speaker 1: left guard also helped your left tackle and identified stuff.
- 25:44Speaker 1: And I am I am. I don't want to say
- 25:48Speaker 1: worried because I feel like that makes it sound like panicky,
- 25:50Speaker 1: but yeah, I am worried. I'm not holistically confident in
- 25:55Speaker 1: I think Corbett's fine. He's like a high floor guy
- 25:58Speaker 1: in a multitude areas necessarily like deficient in any area,
- 26:01Speaker 1: but he's not great.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Anderson, I think is a maller and a dude who
- 26:05Speaker 3: wants to mash.
- 26:06Speaker 1: But you know, from a front structure recognition perspective and
- 26:10Speaker 1: a pass pro standpoint, I do in technique overall, I
- 26:13Speaker 1: do have questions. Then Aaron Kromer's not there right Like
- 26:15Speaker 1: for me, if Aaron Kromer was still there, I would
- 26:18Speaker 1: feel so much better because you could plug me into
- 26:20Speaker 1: left guard and Aaron Kromer would find a way to
- 26:25Speaker 1: get me competent and make me a fine left guard.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Like that's how much faith I have in Aaron Kromer
- 26:31Speaker 1: with him being gone again.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Not that the who's left is bad.
- 26:35Speaker 1: But you go from one of the best offensive line
- 26:37Speaker 1: coaches in the league one of the best assistant coaches
- 26:39Speaker 1: in the league, there's gonna be some drop off to
- 26:42Speaker 1: some degree. So yeah, I am on a scale of
- 26:44Speaker 1: one to ten, ten being like a full scale panic
- 26:47Speaker 1: and one not being worried at all. I'm I'm like
- 26:50Speaker 1: a six six and a half maybe, but that is
- 26:53Speaker 1: something to watch as well.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Left guard, how does Anderson do and how does Corbett do? Next?
- 27:02Speaker 1: All right, so I did left guard. Let's stay on
- 27:05Speaker 1: the offensive side. Hopping around here a little bit. Wide receiver.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I think this one's pretty straightforward as well. DJ. I'm
- 27:12Speaker 1: talking in terms of like importance here, not necessarily like
- 27:15Speaker 1: positions and where they'll go. But wide receiver one is
- 27:17Speaker 1: DJ two or DJ two. Wide receiver one is DJ Moore,
- 27:22Speaker 1: Wide receiver two is Khalishak Here. Who is wide receiver three?
- 27:26Speaker 1: Right now? I would lean on it being Josh Palmer,
- 27:32Speaker 1: but Keon Coleman's going to get his opportunities and so
- 27:35Speaker 1: kind of tying into that, who's wide receiver three, who's
- 27:37Speaker 1: wide receiver four? Essentially for me, it's Josh Palmer versus
- 27:40Speaker 1: Keyon Coleman verus Skyler Bell versus Mikole Hardman versus maybe
- 27:45Speaker 1: Dante Pettis kind of maybe. I think the blocking is
- 27:51Speaker 1: going to be interesting as well. You know, we talked
- 27:53Speaker 1: so much about what Tyrol Shaver's brought to this offense
- 27:57Speaker 1: last year, just like we talked about what Mac Collins
- 27:59Speaker 1: brought to this offense the year before, having this big bodied,
- 28:04Speaker 1: physical wide receiver who could block and who liked it
- 28:07Speaker 1: and who was good at it against a variety of
- 28:10Speaker 1: body types, sizes, frames, roles. All that. Right, you could
- 28:14Speaker 1: be an eleven personnel with Mac Collins and Tyrol Shavers
- 28:16Speaker 1: and it was like being eleven and a half personnel
- 28:19Speaker 1: and that was a huge weapon for the Bills last year.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Through the entirety of the season, you don't have Shavers.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Who takes on So Shavers took over for the mccollins role.
- 28:31Speaker 1: So who takes that role? Now? Who is that insert
- 28:36Speaker 1: wide receiver on duo? Who is that wide receiver that
- 28:40Speaker 1: is hipped off the tight end or close to it
- 28:42Speaker 1: like again almost in like a y wid type of
- 28:45Speaker 1: alignment or a hip formation, right hip formation, and he's
- 28:50Speaker 1: inserting between the tight end and the tackle and he's
- 28:54Speaker 1: digging out a safety, or he's picking up a safety
- 28:58Speaker 1: or a nickel who's trying to shoot a gap, and
- 29:01Speaker 1: he picks him up and washes him down. Who is
- 29:04Speaker 1: that strong run blocker that's gonna be in that role?
- 29:08Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna be DJ Moore, not in
- 29:10Speaker 1: knock against DJ Moore, But you're gonna keep him as
- 29:12Speaker 1: like an actual like what true wide receiver wide receiver.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Let's put him outside by himself and let's see if
- 29:18Speaker 1: we can have him win one on one. Let's see
- 29:19Speaker 1: if they're gonna shade over the top. You're gonna keep
- 29:21Speaker 1: him in more like past catching opportunities. Colu Sekres improved.
- 29:25Speaker 3: As a blocker.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I just don't think he has the size and frame
- 29:28Speaker 1: to last in that role that long. And also I
- 29:31Speaker 1: don't want him to have to do that. I want
- 29:34Speaker 1: him to run more routes in the intermediate. And I
- 29:37Speaker 1: know we've overplayed the whole you know, bubble screen stuff,
- 29:40Speaker 1: our po stuff I've talked about, Uh, you know a
- 29:44Speaker 1: lot of that being packaged plays or runs with passtags.
- 29:47Speaker 1: So a lot of it is Josh Allen making that
- 29:49Speaker 1: call with the line and then spitting it out to
- 29:50Speaker 1: Shakir or Kincaid. Shakir kem block, but I'd rather him
- 29:55Speaker 1: break tackles and take hits that way instead of having
- 29:58Speaker 1: a block too much, though he can do. So who
- 30:02Speaker 1: does that leave, Like, is it Josh Palmer? Is it
- 30:05Speaker 1: from a body type standpoint and a size and frame
- 30:07Speaker 1: and strength, it should be key on Coleman? But can
- 30:12Speaker 1: it be key on Coleman? And then does he give
- 30:14Speaker 1: you enough as a pass catcher to kind of not
- 30:17Speaker 1: silo you and make you predictable when he's in that spot?
- 30:19Speaker 1: So maybe Josh Palmer is better in that role. There's
- 30:22Speaker 1: there's all these things. It's funny how Tyrrell Shaver's tearing
- 30:25Speaker 1: his ACL and then being on the pup list to
- 30:27Speaker 1: start this season. It's funny how that's kind of had
- 30:30Speaker 1: like maybe a bigger impact than people may have thought,
- 30:35Speaker 1: especially compared to last year when it was like is
- 30:36Speaker 1: he even going to make the team? So yeah, I
- 30:39Speaker 1: am interested to see who's wide receiver three, who's wide
- 30:43Speaker 1: receiver four? How does this you know, middle and bottom
- 30:47Speaker 1: of the wide receiver room start to shake out from
- 30:49Speaker 1: a pure pass catching standpoint, but then also from an
- 30:51Speaker 1: overall snapshare usage on the field standpoint as well. I
- 30:56Speaker 1: really intrigued, really really really in chiged in cheap in
- 31:00Speaker 1: triguda oy.
- 31:05Speaker 2: O.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Let's go back to the other side of the ball.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Safety straightforward again. Who's safety three? Who's safety four? CJ.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Gardner Johnson goes down last Saturday. It's Geno Stone and
- 31:19Speaker 1: Tomar Hamlin rotating in with one another with Cole Bishop.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Does that continue? Probably? I think genostone is safety three.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Does Jalen Kilgore start to do enough to supplant Tomar
- 31:33Speaker 1: Hamlin and or maybe.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Supplant Geno Stone.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Before CJ went down on Day three, the Bills were
- 31:42Speaker 1: starting to work in some dime and show some of
- 31:45Speaker 1: that in team. And when they were doing that, Cole
- 31:48Speaker 1: Bishop was, you know, an apex player, slot player, and
- 31:52Speaker 1: your you know, safeties in dime were CJ. Gardner Johnson
- 31:56Speaker 1: and Geno Stone, which I kind of thought just based
- 31:59Speaker 1: off of the of Geno Stone.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Again, not amazing.
- 32:02Speaker 1: He's fine enough if he's gonna be a dime safety
- 32:03Speaker 1: on the back end, Yes, you could do better than
- 32:06Speaker 1: Geno Stone, but it is what it is. I think
- 32:09Speaker 1: genostone is safety three right now. I think Jamar Hamlet
- 32:12Speaker 1: is safety four, and so the bigger question is does
- 32:16Speaker 1: anything happen that knocks Geno Stone off of safety three?
- 32:19Speaker 1: And can Jalen Kilgore do enough to hop anybody in
- 32:27Speaker 1: the way? I think from an athleticis standpoint a trade standpoint? Yes,
- 32:30Speaker 1: you know, he is extremely exciting. It will be awesome
- 32:33Speaker 1: if he was ready to be safety three right now.
- 32:35Speaker 1: That would be so fun and also be a nice
- 32:37Speaker 1: little way to kind of work him into the league,
- 32:39Speaker 1: you know, because he's it's just like a sub packaged
- 32:41Speaker 1: type of player, and so he doesn't have to drink
- 32:43Speaker 1: through a fire hose as much to get on the
- 32:45Speaker 1: field and see action and learn. But yeah, what does
- 32:48Speaker 1: that safety rotation look like? I would imagine CJ. Gardner
- 32:52Speaker 1: Johnson is not gonna, you know, partake in the scrimmage tomorrow,
- 32:57Speaker 1: So that would leave I feel like the starting safeties
- 33:00Speaker 1: coming out for the scrimmager are gonna be bishop in Stone,
- 33:02Speaker 1: then they'll work in Hamlin. And then where does Jalen
- 33:05Speaker 1: kil wor fit? I think that's really interesting. Yeah, does
- 33:09Speaker 1: you know, does he supplant anyone? Does he kind of
- 33:12Speaker 1: plan flag? Does he start to carve out a roll
- 33:15Speaker 1: or niche for himself. Little friends become enemies for enemies
- 33:19Speaker 1: become friends. Going back to a comment from earlier about
- 33:22Speaker 1: defensive tackle, I we really could just actually and not
- 33:26Speaker 1: even like I am literally talking about the entire defense.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Every single position group is something to watch for, which
- 33:31Speaker 1: is interesting. Uh and kind of maybe not if wink
- 33:35Speaker 1: wick nudge nudge, But yeah, the interior d line rotation
- 33:39Speaker 1: in the edge rotation. Right, does Michael Hoyt suit up
- 33:42Speaker 1: for this and continue to make everyone go, wow, he
- 33:46Speaker 1: looks pretty good. I wasn't expecting him to be to
- 33:48Speaker 1: look this good, or be ahead or on this type
- 33:50Speaker 1: of schedule at this point coming off the Achilles. So
- 33:54Speaker 1: if Hoyt is good, we'll start at the edge. We'll
- 33:57Speaker 1: start outside and work our way in. If Hoyt is good, right,
- 34:01Speaker 1: your top two edges edges outside linebackers, however you want
- 34:05Speaker 1: to label it, right, the guys who are gonna be
- 34:07Speaker 1: the book ends, the outside linebackers and the odd front
- 34:10Speaker 1: or your defensive ends when they go into the four
- 34:12Speaker 1: down nickel stuff. Your top two on the Jeth Charter,
- 34:16Speaker 1: Greg Russou and Bradley Chubb. That's not going anywhere.
- 34:20Speaker 3: TJ.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Parker, in my estimation was three. If Michael Hoyt wasn't
- 34:24Speaker 1: able to go, but Michael Hoyt does look like he
- 34:27Speaker 1: might be able to go, I would then think, hoyit
- 34:30Speaker 1: is three Parker's for Javon Solomon's five. Andre Jones has
- 34:35Speaker 1: looked good in camp and has gotten some rush ability
- 34:38Speaker 1: and has gotten to the QB a little bit. He
- 34:39Speaker 1: also had some flashes on tape when you get called
- 34:41Speaker 1: up from the practice squad in the regular season the
- 34:43Speaker 1: past couple of seasons, especially last year.
- 34:46Speaker 3: So just how does that ed rotation look essentially three.
- 34:51Speaker 1: End down because I think the top two aren't going
- 34:53Speaker 1: anywhere Russeau and Chubb. That's your edge one, edge two.
- 34:56Speaker 1: It is what it is, set and forget it, like
- 34:57Speaker 1: the old ron Co commercials, that's it, We're done. And
- 35:00Speaker 1: so who's three? Is it Hoyt?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Is it?
- 35:03Speaker 1: T J?
- 35:03Speaker 3: Parker? Does Javon Solomon make some noise? Is it Andre Jones?
- 35:08Speaker 3: Is it.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Anybody else who kind of shows out and does something?
- 35:13Speaker 1: Because I do think they're opportunities. But yeah, how does
- 35:16Speaker 1: that ED rotation shake out? And then the interior defensive
- 35:18Speaker 1: line starting from the base front type of stuff right
- 35:21Speaker 1: that tight front base personnel quote unquote, if we're going
- 35:26Speaker 1: five down across the line right, the book ends are
- 35:31Speaker 1: Rousseau and Chubb, the nose is Dion Walker, and then
- 35:35Speaker 1: your two defensive ends the two four eyes. If we're
- 35:37Speaker 1: going tight front, one is at Oliver? Who's the other one?
- 35:41Speaker 1: Is it Lannon Jackson?
- 35:43Speaker 3: Is it t J?
- 35:43Speaker 1: Sanders? Who's behind Ed Oliver? Is it Zaine Durant? How
- 35:48Speaker 1: good are we feeling about that? Who's behind Dion Walker?
- 35:51Speaker 1: Is it Dwayne Carter? Is it Fidarian Mathis is it
- 35:54Speaker 1: Zion Log Is it somebody else? Is Dion Walker gonna
- 35:58Speaker 1: get work at four eye? Does Deon Walker even gonna
- 36:00Speaker 1: suit up tomorrow because he's got a banged up elbow?
- 36:02Speaker 1: Kind of so it gives the other guys opportunities, but
- 36:04Speaker 1: it also limits kind of what we could see for
- 36:06Speaker 1: the defense that it's full potential. This is a thin
- 36:10Speaker 1: interior from a depth and known quantity and usefulness standpoint.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I know there are some positive things being said on
- 36:17Speaker 1: some guys, but you are sitting right now where even
- 36:23Speaker 1: if Dion Walker was healthy, Dwayne Carter and Faderian Maths
- 36:28Speaker 1: are gonna have to give you meaningful snaps at some
- 36:30Speaker 1: point this year, and I don't think that's ideal. And
- 36:33Speaker 1: then if Dion Walker goes down, which he kind of
- 36:36Speaker 1: is banged up already, you're gonna need both of those
- 36:40Speaker 1: guys to operate in that way or Zion Low Like
- 36:43Speaker 1: it's just and I'm a huge firm believer in Jim Leonard.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I don't want to drill down and bang the drum
- 36:50Speaker 1: for this topic so much because I've talked about it
- 36:51Speaker 1: so much already this offseason. But it's scary kind of
- 36:56Speaker 1: where you can get in a hurry, even if everybody
- 36:59Speaker 1: was healthy. I thought there was some scariness on the interior. Again,
- 37:03Speaker 1: if you watch the show, you know you understand, But
- 37:06Speaker 1: then if Walker's banged up, it just makes it so
- 37:07Speaker 1: much worse. If, like, if anything happens to Dion Walker
- 37:11Speaker 1: or at Oliver, everything on the interior gets scary. It's
- 37:15Speaker 1: already kind of scary if they stay healthy. If one
- 37:18Speaker 1: of them or both of them goes down, for me,
- 37:21Speaker 1: it's a nightmare. So I'm interested to see kind of
- 37:26Speaker 1: what happens from there, especially you know Jim Leonard's press conference,
- 37:33Speaker 1: the second one, I believe it was Everything's kind of
- 37:35Speaker 1: blending together for me. At this point, somebody asked them,
- 37:38Speaker 1: you know when the pads come on, you know, being
- 37:43Speaker 1: able to see.
- 37:44Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe it was his first press conference.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Talking about you know, like, oh, what you're seeing from
- 37:49Speaker 1: the defensive line, and his thing was like, yeah, you know,
- 37:50Speaker 1: it's really when the pads come on that you can
- 37:52Speaker 1: start to judge everything. You know, without the pads, it's tough.
- 37:55Speaker 1: And then he got to ask something about the nose
- 37:57Speaker 1: tackles in particular, and he the first thing he said
- 37:59Speaker 1: candidly was like, yeah, seeing somebody like Deon Walker and
- 38:02Speaker 1: how many snaps is he gonna get it? Nos versus
- 38:04Speaker 1: four I. And it's immediately like ooh, you know, why
- 38:09Speaker 1: did he jump into that right away? Like does this
- 38:11Speaker 1: he thinking what we're thinking? So on and so forth
- 38:13Speaker 1: and all this stuff. So I do think the interior
- 38:15Speaker 1: D line rotation is something is the bigger one to watch.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Edge is more we know who the top two are.
- 38:22Speaker 1: It's really seeing who can be three, four and five
- 38:24Speaker 1: and in what capacity. But the interior is really up
- 38:28Speaker 1: for grabs. And again that's even just from like the
- 38:30Speaker 1: odd front structure, we're going to the even front stuff. Okay,
- 38:32Speaker 1: who's the one tech? Who's the three? You're probably looking
- 38:35Speaker 1: at Ed and t J. Sanders as your three techs,
- 38:37Speaker 1: So who's the one? Like it's it's Dean Walker and
- 38:40Speaker 1: Frederian mathis Dion Walker and Dwayne Carter?
- 38:43Speaker 3: A lot of uh, A lot of thoughts. Kay Morris
- 38:47Speaker 3: is Travis Klain will surprise us all?
- 38:48Speaker 1: Maybe? Maybe? Okay moriole, I thought this was k Morris
- 38:51Speaker 1: and maybe the one tech was the friends with me
- 38:53Speaker 1: we made along the way. I wish it was Vita Vea.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Man oh oh, Robert says, would you trade Dion Walker
- 39:04Speaker 1: as part of a package for Vita Veau?
- 39:17Speaker 3: He's thirty one turns thirty two. Yeah, probably. I'm also
- 39:31Speaker 3: go back and bring that up.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I am also I like Dion Walker, and I think
- 39:39Speaker 1: Dion Walker's good. I'm not as high on Dion Walker
- 39:44Speaker 1: in in the Bills space or even some of the
- 39:47Speaker 1: National space. I know he got a lot of recognition
- 39:49Speaker 1: from people like all rookie team type stuff for certain publications.
- 39:51Speaker 2: In that.
- 39:53Speaker 1: I'm not as high on Walker as other people are,
- 39:57Speaker 1: though I do like him. I would really like him
- 40:01Speaker 1: more in a four I or if they could move
- 40:03Speaker 1: him all along the defensive line and take advantage of him,
- 40:06Speaker 1: which I think they will be able to do, but
- 40:08Speaker 1: it'd be easier to do if they had a true
- 40:10Speaker 1: nose to play with him and rotate them with. But yeah,
- 40:13Speaker 1: I would trade Walker for Vitavea. I think, like right now,
- 40:17Speaker 1: Vidavea is a better player than dion Walker, and you
- 40:20Speaker 1: could make the case, like you know, dion Walker could
- 40:23Speaker 1: be better than Vidavea, but he's still it's still more
- 40:25Speaker 1: of a prospect than it is a sure thing and
- 40:27Speaker 1: a known quantity, and so I'll take the sure thing
- 40:29Speaker 1: in the known quantity right now, even though Vidavea is
- 40:32Speaker 1: thirty one, but he's still sweet bump bump. And then
- 40:38Speaker 1: to Josh's point, yeah, in a vacuum, why not. But
- 40:41Speaker 1: financially that would be a nightmare. Yeah, it's well, it's
- 40:44Speaker 1: not too crazy. You would have to give some guys
- 40:46Speaker 1: some I looked into him and I forget who it was,
- 40:48Speaker 1: and I just don't feel like pulling it up right
- 40:49Speaker 1: now because I don't want to get too sidetracked with this.
- 40:52Speaker 1: But they could give several guys some extensions, and then
- 40:55Speaker 1: they do have guys who they can cut next year,
- 40:58Speaker 1: and then because Vidave and an extension, you could use
- 41:02Speaker 1: the extension as the way to knock down his cap
- 41:05Speaker 1: hit this year and then make the money work going forward,
- 41:09Speaker 1: especially with you know, Brandon Bean loves his void years. Like,
- 41:11Speaker 1: there are ways to make it work, but yeah, it's
- 41:15Speaker 1: it's not easy. Into some other comments here, I think
- 41:18Speaker 1: Vdave ends up staying with Tampa Bay. I think this
- 41:20Speaker 1: is similar to I don't know so many other dudes
- 41:23Speaker 1: who have been like I want out of here, I'm
- 41:25Speaker 1: holding in, and then all of a sudden they get
- 41:27Speaker 1: a new deal and they're like, you know what, I
- 41:29Speaker 1: never wanted to leave. And it's like, hey, you just
- 41:30Speaker 1: wanted You just wanted to stay and get paid more.
- 41:32Speaker 1: I get it. So yeah, I don't think vidavans up
- 41:36Speaker 1: going anywhere, but yeah, it wouldn't be the easiest fit.
- 41:39Speaker 1: And yet to Robert's point, yet you could extend Deon Dawkins,
- 41:42Speaker 1: but I don't think you do that. I think that's
- 41:43Speaker 1: Fat's a fair of comment and.
- 41:44Speaker 3: Thought as well.
- 41:47Speaker 1: It's interesting. This is also again another way, and I
- 41:49Speaker 1: mentioned this on a previous episode part of my thought
- 41:53Speaker 1: for the DJ Moore deal. It wasn't just like so
- 41:58Speaker 1: many people were like, oh, the DJ Moore, Like, what
- 42:00Speaker 1: you gave up for DJ Moore is fine. You know,
- 42:03Speaker 1: a second round pick, He's going to be better than
- 42:05Speaker 1: any second round pick, and second round picks aren't guarantees. Like, so,
- 42:08Speaker 1: chances are you get a better player in DJ more
- 42:10Speaker 1: than anybody else you're gonna get with the second round pick,
- 42:12Speaker 1: and then they leave the conversation there. My biggest thing
- 42:14Speaker 1: with with with the DJ Moore trade wasn't just the
- 42:17Speaker 1: second round pick. It was all the money that you
- 42:20Speaker 1: had to eat for DJ Moore and then restructure him
- 42:22Speaker 1: to the point where he's essentially on like a three year,
- 42:24Speaker 1: seventy five million dollar deal. That's a lot of money
- 42:28Speaker 1: for DJ Moore, and resources are finite, and so when
- 42:32Speaker 1: you sink a lot of money into DJ Moore, it
- 42:35Speaker 1: precludes you from being able to pull out moves in
- 42:39Speaker 1: other areas. This is always why again, like I see
- 42:41Speaker 1: it in all sports, Baseball is even more so with
- 42:45Speaker 1: these comments that I'm about to say, or this comment.
- 42:47Speaker 1: It's even more so in that way because it's not
- 42:49Speaker 1: really a salary cap. It's luxury tax base. But teams
- 42:52Speaker 1: handout deals are overpay for guys, and I see it
- 42:54Speaker 1: all the time where people are like who cares, Like
- 42:57Speaker 1: it's not my money, like sign away, and it's like, yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 1: but you should care because resources, especially financial ones, are finite.
- 43:05Speaker 1: So if you spend too much money, you can't spend
- 43:09Speaker 1: any more. Then if you overspend on a couple guys,
- 43:12Speaker 1: that means you can't spend it on others. So kind
- 43:16Speaker 1: of you know, you reap what you saw, type of degree,
- 43:19Speaker 1: Jay Ham says. Jerry O said he would rather trade
- 43:22Speaker 1: Deane Walker than TJ.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Sanders. Ooh, interesting, interesting, interesting, interesting.
- 43:32Speaker 1: You play to win the game? Hello, Jim Mora senior man. Hello,
- 43:38Speaker 1: I always confused that one and no, no, no no,
- 43:42Speaker 1: I was gonnaway say, I was confusing you. That's herm Edwards.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I always confuse her Edwards. Doing you play to win
- 43:46Speaker 1: the game? Hello? With the Jim Mora playoffs? You kidding me?
- 43:49Speaker 1: I always confuse those two. I think they happened within
- 43:51Speaker 1: a couple of years with one another, but I always
- 43:53Speaker 1: confuse those too. Yeah, you have to play to win
- 43:55Speaker 1: the game, as Her Edwards playoffs is Jim Mora. Ka
- 43:58Speaker 1: Morey says, being you have to find a way to defer.
- 44:00Speaker 3: Josh's contract, like Otani's man.
- 44:04Speaker 1: I don't know the Dodgers just and then the other guy, like,
- 44:07Speaker 1: I don't know if they're gonna pay Schooble after they
- 44:09Speaker 1: trade a for him from Detroit. It's just crazy, man,
- 44:12Speaker 1: It's just crazy what the Dodgers do. But yeah, find
- 44:14Speaker 1: a way pay everybody salary cap is a myth. But yeah,
- 44:18Speaker 1: So inter your defensive line rotation, edge rotation, I am.
- 44:24Speaker 1: I am very interested to see that. I think most
- 44:26Speaker 1: fans are. Right, Let's kind of see what that looks like.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Who's getting what reps in what spots, all the way
- 44:32Speaker 1: down to the little things of like, you know, if
- 44:39Speaker 1: you know who's the four I if we're going with
- 44:41Speaker 1: that the odd front base personnel grouping right on like
- 44:45Speaker 1: a first or second down or non run situation, who's
- 44:48Speaker 1: the four eye to the run strength? You know, if
- 44:51Speaker 1: it's Landing Jackson and Ed Oliver in there, is it
- 44:53Speaker 1: always land In Jackson or is it at Oliver? Sometimes
- 44:55Speaker 1: if it's Ed and TJ, is it Ed or is
- 44:58Speaker 1: it TJ? You know who is to the run strength?
- 45:02Speaker 1: I think is very interesting to note as well. So
- 45:04Speaker 1: it's everything in totality with the interior defensive line and
- 45:07Speaker 1: the edge grouping. It's who is kind of ahead of
- 45:11Speaker 1: who in the pecking order, but how are they being used,
- 45:13Speaker 1: what situations, what roles, what responsibilities, and then how are
- 45:16Speaker 1: they executing. So I'm interested to kind of see that,
- 45:20Speaker 1: and I don't think that should be a surprised for
- 45:22Speaker 1: anyone because that's part of the position group I'm concerned
- 45:24Speaker 1: about the most, even if everything stayed with Sean McDermott,
- 45:27Speaker 1: but even more so a little bit.
- 45:28Speaker 2: With the.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Some of the transition to Leonard. I see a comment
- 45:35Speaker 1: here Roy says, do we know what time the Blue
- 45:38Speaker 1: and Red takes place? Yeah, it starts to go from
- 45:40Speaker 1: seven to nine tomorrow night, Eastern Standard time. Joshua says,
- 45:43Speaker 1: And if you had to summarize our injury luck so far,
- 45:45Speaker 1: what would you say. I feel like it'll play a
- 45:47Speaker 1: huge part in the degree of success we have. Do
- 45:49Speaker 1: you mean the injury luck so far like this year
- 45:55Speaker 1: or you just mean like overall what they've been for
- 45:56Speaker 1: the past several years. Clarify for that bad for me,
- 46:00Speaker 1: and then I will come back and I will answer
- 46:01Speaker 1: this question. So I want to make sure I'm understanding
- 46:04Speaker 1: it the way that you uh uh mean it. Let's
- 46:08Speaker 1: talk some scheme stuff. I'll just stand on the defensive
- 46:11Speaker 1: side of the box. I was talking about interior, defensive
- 46:12Speaker 1: line and edge. Oh, we'll go back, Josh says. This offseason. Yeah,
- 46:18Speaker 1: we all know. Overall that's fair. I think your injury
- 46:23Speaker 1: luck has been fine largely. You know, ho hoit's ahead
- 46:27Speaker 1: of schedule.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Oh.
- 46:28Speaker 1: I like this comment here that Rochester I'm interested in
- 46:31Speaker 1: who will be the wide receivers and run situations.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I said that a little bit ago.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I feel like you just jumped in now, but I
- 46:36Speaker 1: completely agree, and I brought it up because I like
- 46:38Speaker 1: this comment mainly because I agree with it. Yeah, I
- 46:41Speaker 1: think Hoy for me seems ahead of schedule, So I
- 46:46Speaker 1: think that's good injury luck.
- 46:49Speaker 3: CJ goes down. But it's just a calf strain.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I shouldn't say just a calf strain, like a soft
- 46:53Speaker 1: muscle injury, especially like a calf strain that can literally
- 46:57Speaker 1: affect him all year. So like, yes, obviously it's better
- 47:00Speaker 1: than having like a popped or ruptured achilles, but it
- 47:02Speaker 1: still can be wonky.
- 47:04Speaker 3: But I think that's decent.
- 47:07Speaker 1: You know, Walker's got banged up with the elbow a
- 47:09Speaker 1: little bit, and then I've had some other guys pick
- 47:12Speaker 1: up some knocks here and there. I largely think their
- 47:16Speaker 1: injury luck has been I don't even want to answer
- 47:19Speaker 1: this guy.
- 47:19Speaker 3: I'm gonna jinx it.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I largely think their injury luck has been good. I
- 47:26Speaker 1: mean they haven't. Okay, this is massive, massive, no jinks
- 47:30Speaker 1: to everything I'm about to say, football, gods, universe everything.
- 47:34Speaker 1: You know, they haven't been important. Important player gets carted
- 47:39Speaker 1: off and he tore this. You know, it's not Jalen
- 47:43Speaker 1: Walker for the Falcons who tore his a cl I
- 47:46Speaker 1: didn't follow back up and see what happened to Shawn
- 47:48Speaker 1: Slater after he went to the temp for the Chargers
- 47:50Speaker 1: and then came back out holding his helmet. It's not
- 47:52Speaker 1: Ricky Piersoll or anybody on the forty nine ers because
- 47:55Speaker 1: the substation claims a ligament every single day. Yeah, so
- 47:59Speaker 1: I think they're injury luck largely has been good. So
- 48:04Speaker 1: let's hope it stays that way. I would rather have
- 48:09Speaker 1: worse injury stuff now and everybody be healthy come December.
- 48:13Speaker 1: But with the bill schedule, you kind of need everybody
- 48:15Speaker 1: to be healthy along the way because you got a
- 48:18Speaker 1: rough schedule and it starts rough right out of the gate.
- 48:22Speaker 3: But good question.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Yeah, cross your fingers. Yeah, everybody do whatever they have
- 48:25Speaker 1: to do to not jinx everything I just said. Uh,
- 48:28Speaker 1: staying on the defensive idea from a scheme perspective, how
- 48:31Speaker 1: much quote unquote based personnel versus nickel do we see?
- 48:34Speaker 1: You know, how much four down five dbs on the
- 48:37Speaker 1: field do we get? How much dime do we get?
- 48:39Speaker 1: How much? Uh rockers this conversation making me nervous. Next topic.
- 48:43Speaker 1: It's same for me.
- 48:44Speaker 3: That's why I was like, I'm not doing this anymore.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Yeah, how much nickel do we see? How much dime
- 48:49Speaker 1: do we see? How much base? You know, personnel quote
- 48:54Speaker 1: unquote where it's you know, the five down front that
- 48:57Speaker 1: we talked about and two line backers behind him and
- 49:01Speaker 1: four dbs and who is it right again? Those little
- 49:03Speaker 1: pieces of you know, who is the three four defensive
- 49:08Speaker 1: end to the run strength? You know, how much is
- 49:11Speaker 1: it Russou versus Chubb at the outside linebacker spot or
- 49:15Speaker 1: the edge spot playing to the run strength? And then
- 49:17Speaker 1: going back to the three four defensive end. Guys, Yeah,
- 49:20Speaker 1: is it Landon Jackson playing to the run strength? And
- 49:22Speaker 1: how much of it is TJ? How much of it
- 49:23Speaker 1: is at Oliver? What are those guys looking like? When
- 49:26Speaker 1: we get to the four down nickel stuff, the Will
- 49:30Speaker 1: and Mike conversation, like we talked about earlier, who's doing what?
- 49:33Speaker 1: And you know, if it is Bernard at Will or
- 49:36Speaker 1: someone else at will, how are they being used? How
- 49:39Speaker 1: much blitzing are we seeing? And I think that ties
- 49:40Speaker 1: into everything as whole. How many how much blitzing are
- 49:43Speaker 1: we seeing? What type of blitzer are we seeing? How
- 49:45Speaker 1: many sims are we getting? How many creepers are we getting,
- 49:47Speaker 1: especially now that we've had, you know, two weeks of camp,
- 49:50Speaker 1: some install stuff. Are we starting to see some buttons
- 49:52Speaker 1: being pushed and some levers being pulled a little bit?
- 49:54Speaker 1: From a blitz structure standpoint, from a SIM and creeper standpoint?
- 49:59Speaker 1: Covered structures, single high versus two high match man zone?
- 50:05Speaker 1: Are we locking one side of the coverage in man
- 50:09Speaker 1: and the other side we're playing zone? And then what
- 50:11Speaker 1: kind of zone are we playing? You know? Are we
- 50:13Speaker 1: playing you know? Are we playing triangles? Are we playing boxes?
- 50:16Speaker 1: Are we doing you know, first one in, first man out?
- 50:19Speaker 1: I'm matching this, you know, are we doing you know
- 50:22Speaker 1: some cover three match stuff? How much quarters are we
- 50:24Speaker 1: getting everything right? Two high stuff, single high stuff, man
- 50:29Speaker 1: match zone, split field coverage stuff, locking this side, man
- 50:35Speaker 1: on this side, zone on the other, is it against
- 50:37Speaker 1: certain looks? Is it you know, versus three by ones?
- 50:40Speaker 1: Is it verse kind of everything? What are they doing
- 50:42Speaker 1: verse two by two? What are the coverage checks? And
- 50:46Speaker 1: then who's operating in what role? So much of a
- 50:49Speaker 1: coverage standpoint. I can't wait till put the preseason tape
- 50:51Speaker 1: to dive into it even more. But and then even
- 50:53Speaker 1: within that two coverage structure standpoint right, the oh ahead
- 50:58Speaker 1: in my head and I lost it any creative stuff.
- 51:01Speaker 1: It's cool. I went back and I was watching some
- 51:04Speaker 1: of Jim Leonards stuff from twenty twenty one, and it's
- 51:07Speaker 1: cool to go and watch a bunch of the stuff
- 51:13Speaker 1: that I love that defensive coordinators have been doing the
- 51:17Speaker 1: past couple of years in the NFL, Like twenty twenty four,
- 51:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, even twenty twenty three. Jim Leonard was
- 51:22Speaker 1: doing that in twenty twenty one, and I knew that,
- 51:24Speaker 1: like Leonard has been doing stuff like this since like
- 51:26Speaker 1: twenty seventeen, eighteen nineteen, like so much cool stuff schematically,
- 51:31Speaker 1: and I'm I'm just excited to see how much of
- 51:33Speaker 1: that he brings, you know, non traditional Tampa stuff, and.
- 51:37Speaker 3: You know, we're we're showing.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Split field coverage pre snap, and then on the snap
- 51:45Speaker 1: we are dropping the two split field safety because.
- 51:48Speaker 3: We had, like, you know, we kind of mixed our
- 51:50Speaker 3: our dbs up a little bit.
- 51:51Speaker 1: We're taking our two safeties and dropping him down as
- 51:55Speaker 1: the middle hook players in cover three, and we're taking
- 51:58Speaker 1: the guy who looked like he was going to be
- 51:59Speaker 1: the tamp or the pole runner pre snap and he's
- 52:02Speaker 1: dropping and now it's you know, a Cover three look
- 52:05Speaker 1: and vice versa. You know, we're Tay we're showing single
- 52:07Speaker 1: high pre snap and then post snap. It's a non
- 52:10Speaker 1: traditional Tampa but it's it's more like Tampa two robber
- 52:14Speaker 1: or Tampa two invert. But then one of the deep
- 52:16Speaker 1: haf safeties is the nickel. Just all this kind of
- 52:19Speaker 1: fun stuff. What are we getting schematically from a coverage
- 52:22Speaker 1: structure standpoint in terms of coverage usage, how they're using
- 52:27Speaker 1: it right Again, there's a lot of intricacy, I think,
- 52:31Speaker 1: And you see this with Leonard at his time in Wisconsin,
- 52:35Speaker 1: and you got coverage stuff like this going back to
- 52:39Speaker 1: you know, Rex Ryan and Justin Wilcox and you know
- 52:42Speaker 1: guys who he who really formed and shaped his coaching mentality.
- 52:48Speaker 1: But then you go with what he's done in the
- 52:49Speaker 1: past couple of years working under and with Vance Joseph
- 52:53Speaker 1: and seeing what the Bills are doing from a coverage
- 52:56Speaker 1: standpoint in camp so far, it it made me feel
- 53:01Speaker 1: like it was going to be a lot of Leonards
- 53:02Speaker 1: Wisconsin stuff that he was doing. And then Vance Joseph's
- 53:05Speaker 1: stuff where it's you know, it's playing out like man,
- 53:08Speaker 1: but it's not necessarily man, and we're zoned outside and
- 53:11Speaker 1: matched inside and we're preaching leverage, and based off the leverage,
- 53:14Speaker 1: there's this read and I'm just really excited for it
- 53:17Speaker 1: and I'm going to kind of kind of see how
- 53:19Speaker 1: that plays out a little bit. And so that's a
- 53:23Speaker 1: huge piece as well. So, yeah, coverage structures, personnel groupings,
- 53:27Speaker 1: and then when we get from blitzes and or Sim's
- 53:29Speaker 1: slash creepers, Robert says, how worried are we about Igb's
- 53:36Speaker 1: grabbin us this offseason? I know it's his rep, but
- 53:39Speaker 1: how does that play out in the regular season? Does
- 53:41Speaker 1: he scale it back or play aggressive? I think he
- 53:42Speaker 1: plays aggressive, and it comes down to how much the
- 53:44Speaker 1: refs are going to call it or not. I think
- 53:46Speaker 1: he's going to play a style that puts the onus
- 53:48Speaker 1: on the referees and they're either going to flag him
- 53:50Speaker 1: or they're not. He's going to make them throw have
- 53:52Speaker 1: to throw it. His play style isn't going away. For
- 53:56Speaker 1: as much as you know this past year at High
- 54:00Speaker 1: State when people threw out like, oh, you know, I
- 54:02Speaker 1: figure what it was like. The previous year he was
- 54:03Speaker 1: flagged like ten times, and this year he was only
- 54:06Speaker 1: flagged three or four and he improved so much.
- 54:09Speaker 3: He watched the tape.
- 54:10Speaker 1: It's the same thing, like the rests aren't throwing the flag.
- 54:12Speaker 1: So some games he might be grabby as hell and
- 54:17Speaker 1: he's gonna get flagged four or five times. The next
- 54:19Speaker 1: game he could be just as grabby and he might
- 54:22Speaker 1: not get flagged at all. I think he scales it
- 54:25Speaker 1: back to not make it a now make it blatant.
- 54:27Speaker 1: But he's gonna play aggressive. You're gonna get press coverage
- 54:30Speaker 1: in this defense, and his whole game is built for that.
- 54:34Speaker 1: The size, the length, the violence, the tenacity, the edge
- 54:37Speaker 1: that he plays with. He wants to get on the
- 54:39Speaker 1: line impress you and punch you right in the face
- 54:41Speaker 1: and not let you get into your route stem. He
- 54:43Speaker 1: just wants to beat the hell out of you all
- 54:44Speaker 1: the time. And then if you do get in your
- 54:45Speaker 1: route stem, he's gonna grab you. He's going to attach.
- 54:50Speaker 1: I don't think he's going I don't think that. I
- 54:52Speaker 1: think he'll scale it back in the way to not
- 54:56Speaker 1: be so blatant. But he's gonna play super aggressive, like
- 54:59Speaker 1: it's not it's not going anywhere, and it's gonna be
- 55:02Speaker 1: a matter of how much do the refs call it,
- 55:05Speaker 1: just from what I've seen in camp, and again going
- 55:07Speaker 1: back to was Tap of Ohio State this past year,
- 55:08Speaker 1: like I said, oh man, his penalties went down, so
- 55:11Speaker 1: he wasn't as gravvy. No, he was super gravvy. They
- 55:14Speaker 1: just didn't call it. And again that's what will happen
- 55:17Speaker 1: game to game. He'll get called sometimes he won't. Other times.
- 55:21Speaker 1: You're putting the game in the hands of the referees,
- 55:23Speaker 1: which I don't like. But also like I don't know,
- 55:27Speaker 1: if you're grabbing ten plays in a row, how many
- 55:29Speaker 1: times are they gonna thill the flag once? Maybe twice?
- 55:34Speaker 1: So yeah, we'll see, But yeah, I'm worried about his grabbiness.
- 55:39Speaker 3: I'm gonna be that was my biggest thing.
- 55:40Speaker 1: I'm worried about it. I'm gonna be worried about it
- 55:42Speaker 1: every year until he shows that it's not an issue.
- 55:47Speaker 3: Offensive side of the ball.
- 55:48Speaker 1: Schematically, again, you can make so many arguments or comments
- 55:52Speaker 1: for this, but how much play action do we get
- 55:55Speaker 1: and what kind of play action? You know? Is it
- 55:58Speaker 1: just bootleg stuff? Is it drop back stuff.
- 56:00Speaker 3: From under center?
- 56:01Speaker 1: Are they marrying more of the run game or their
- 56:04Speaker 1: play action off of their main run game concepts?
- 56:07Speaker 2: I e.
- 56:08Speaker 1: You know they run Midzone Week in duo a ton
- 56:11Speaker 1: and yeah, they do play action off Midzone Week and
- 56:13Speaker 1: it's kind of easy to do that. Do we get
- 56:15Speaker 1: more like duo play action like the Rams do? That
- 56:17Speaker 1: would be really sweet. I think the first time I
- 56:19Speaker 1: saw the Bills do it last year was against the Steelers.
- 56:24Speaker 1: It may have happened sporadically before that, but you know,
- 56:27Speaker 1: they were running that blast motion counter look last year
- 56:32Speaker 1: with Jackson Hawes and Reggie Gilliam. They were running it
- 56:34Speaker 1: as an actual run play and then they use that
- 56:36Speaker 1: to mix in some play actions, So that was sweet.
- 56:39Speaker 1: More stuff like that, more stuff where we are running
- 56:42Speaker 1: play action that looks just like our main and or
- 56:45Speaker 1: core and or best run concepts.
- 56:47Speaker 3: So how much play action? And what kind deep shots
- 56:50Speaker 3: in the offense?
- 56:52Speaker 1: Yes or no? And what are they coming off of slash?
- 56:55Speaker 1: How are they coming Is it off of play action?
- 56:57Speaker 1: Is it, you know, just straight dropback? Is it for shotgun?
- 57:00Speaker 1: Is it from.
- 57:03Speaker 3: Under center?
- 57:05Speaker 1: Is it within the structure of the play and the
- 57:07Speaker 1: drop back? Is it within you know, Allen evading and
- 57:10Speaker 1: scrambling and making a play and chucking it downfield. I
- 57:14Speaker 1: thought the Bills needed the deep ball last year, and
- 57:17Speaker 1: I think everybody realized that by like week five, after
- 57:19Speaker 1: everybody and their mother yelled at me. I think it
- 57:21Speaker 1: was Week two against the Dolphins when things got really
- 57:24Speaker 1: tight in that second half before the Bills got bailed
- 57:27Speaker 1: out by I think the penalty on that punt from
- 57:30Speaker 1: the Dolphins, when everything got really tight, and I was like, man,
- 57:33Speaker 1: the Bills are gonna need this, like the deep ball,
- 57:35Speaker 1: and everybody was like, no, they don't. And then like
- 57:37Speaker 1: three weeks later it was like, man, the Bills really
- 57:39Speaker 1: really need the deep ball, and this receiver room is scary.
- 57:42Speaker 1: The Bills need the deep ball just to keep defenses
- 57:45Speaker 1: honest and give themselves some rude to breathe. But I
- 57:47Speaker 1: also think like a trend and the meta this year
- 57:50Speaker 1: in the league is the best offenses are going to
- 57:52Speaker 1: be able to find explosives through air yards. The Bills
- 57:55Speaker 1: had explosive plays last year and passes last year, but
- 57:57Speaker 1: a lot of it it wasn't necessarily air yard stuff.
- 58:00Speaker 2: More.
- 58:00Speaker 1: Hey, let me spit it to Shakir and he breaks
- 58:03Speaker 1: three tackles and you know, I threw it to him
- 58:05Speaker 1: behind the line of scrimmage and he turned it into
- 58:07Speaker 1: a twenty five or thirty yard game or sometimes a
- 58:09Speaker 1: house call. So can we get more explosives with air yards,
- 58:13Speaker 1: like a twenty five yard strike downfield? Air yards and
- 58:17Speaker 1: we're kind of taking you know, are we pushing the
- 58:19Speaker 1: ball downfield the DJ Moore? Are we taking advantage of
- 58:22Speaker 1: his speed and being able to stretch the field vertically
- 58:24Speaker 1: and or horizontally. Can we get Dalton Kincaid matched up
- 58:28Speaker 1: downfield on some guys and use him to create some
- 58:30Speaker 1: chunk plays with some air yards? You know, is it
- 58:31Speaker 1: not just all yards after catch base or are we
- 58:35Speaker 1: include you know, pushing that era? You know, air yards
- 58:38Speaker 1: per attempt and or you know, average depth of target
- 58:40Speaker 1: downfield a little bit. I think when you go back
- 58:43Speaker 1: and look at you know, I mentioned it on shows before,
- 58:45Speaker 1: but you go back and you watch, you know, teams
- 58:50Speaker 1: that kind of got at the Seahawks defense a little
- 58:52Speaker 1: bit and it's like, oh, look what the Rams did.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Oh look what the Buccaneers did. And they're taking shots
- 58:56Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield. You know, you go watch the h the
- 58:59Speaker 1: Quarterback documentary on Netflix and they show that game and
- 59:02Speaker 1: it's Baker Mayfield just slinging like thirty and forty yards
- 59:05Speaker 1: shots to a Mecca Buka downfield, like over and over.
- 59:08Speaker 1: In the Rams, you know, it's downfield shots to Puka
- 59:11Speaker 1: where you know coverage is tight, but he's going up
- 59:13Speaker 1: and getting in on Josh Jober, Tarik Wollen or whoever's
- 59:16Speaker 1: on him, or you know it's it's the tight ends
- 59:18Speaker 1: or it's Devontae Adams. You need to be able to
- 59:22Speaker 1: hit shots from an air yards perspective. Again, it doesn't
- 59:26Speaker 1: have to be everything you know we're not doing, you know,
- 59:28Speaker 1: the Al Davis or the air Coriol offense here where
- 59:30Speaker 1: it's like we're chucking it downfield like forty percent of
- 59:33Speaker 1: the time. But like, I feel like you got to
- 59:36Speaker 1: take like six deep shots a game and ideally you're
- 59:39Speaker 1: hitting two or three, and if you can hit two
- 59:41Speaker 1: or three, you're flipping the field. It's changing so much,
- 59:44Speaker 1: and especially for the Bills offense, if you can do
- 59:47Speaker 1: that plus run the ball like they can and the
- 59:50Speaker 1: way they run it, what do you do if you're
- 59:52Speaker 1: a defense? The answer is you will pray and that
- 59:55Speaker 1: ain't in good strategy. So I think the you know,
- 59:59Speaker 1: taking take deep shots and air yards and pushing the
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: ball down field, getting over the top and pasted safeties
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: running more concepts that are designed to you know, put
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: those quarter safeties in a bind and get one of
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: them to nail down, like a Mills concept where someone's
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: nailing down on on the dig and then that post
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: is coming right behind him and all of a sudden,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: it's like, uh, oh, you know, I'm that quarter safety
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: and I nailed down on that dig and all of
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: a sudden, that post has gone right behind me. And
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: now you've got you know, you can have Dalton Kincaid
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: run that post. You can. You know, it could be
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: a two receiver side and it could be you know,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: dal Kinkaid in the slot he runs that dig, so
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: that quarter safety nails down on Dalon Kincaid. And you
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: know who the number one is that was outside Kincaid.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Who's running that post behind the quarter safety. It's Dj
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Moore and dude can fly. So if he gets some
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: inside leverage on that quarter's corner and that quarter safety
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: to that side nails down on Dalton Kincaid, and you
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: you hit the post behind him and you throw it
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: downfield and you chuck it, and even if you don't
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: hit it, that threat is there to be like, uh oh,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: they just gamed up our coverage. They gamed up our safety.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: That was close, but then if you hit it, it
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: could be a moonshot touchdown or an immediate change.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: Flip of the field something like that. So yeah, they
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: need deep shots.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: And it's not just the Bills, you know, in particular,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: it would help them a bunch because of how could
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: they can run the ball and how tight things got
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: for them last year and compressed and condensed, not from
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: a formation standpoint, but from what the defense was kind
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: of doing. Everything was packed in and pressed. But I
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: think that's a theme for this year overall. You know,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: teams that are able to be explosive and pushed the
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: ball downfield, kind of similar to what the Seahawks were
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: last year, where you know, they were an offense that
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: obviously was very good and Klint Kubiak got rewarded with
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: a new job. He was a coordinator that a lot
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: of Bills fans wanted, including myself. But when you look
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: at I'm pulling up stats right now, when you look
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: at success rate last year four offenses, the Seattle Seahawks
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: were fourteenth in success rate, and so it's like, oh, okay,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: But then Sam Donald was second in the league and
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: EPA per dropback on throws of twenty or more air
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: yards And the only reason he was second was because
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Drake may had some like ridiculous season.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: But even Sam Donald was like.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Sam Donald was second I think at like plus zero
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: point eight nine, and that would have been first for
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: like pretty much every single year for the past like
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: eight or nine seasons or seven seasons or whatever it.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: Was that I went back and checked.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: But they hit deep shots. They were hitting you know,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: air yard chunk plays to their tight ends or JSN
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: with routine regularity. So explosives through the air and being
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: able to push the ball downfield. I think it's going
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: to matter a bunch this year and then especially with
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: the Bills, because you got a run game, you can
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: easily try and work some explosives and off play action.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Boom, there you go.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Also from an offensive standpoint to watch tomorrow, how much
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: spread do we get versus kind of stay living in
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: the condensed world reduced formational with what do we get?
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: And then personnel usage basic one. I think a lot
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: of us are interested to see No Reggie Gilliam twenty
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: one probably takes a hit, twenty two probably takes a hit.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: So how much twelve do we get? How much thirteen?
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: How much eleven? And how are we getting it?
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: What are we doing? You know? How much are we
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: kind of running those eleven and a half personnel groupings?
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Who's filling in for Shavers slash Mac Collins, who's filling
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: that role this year?
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: And how?
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: And then how viable are they as a pass catcher?
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: So yeah, bum bum bum.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: With Williams says, maybe Brady has Josh doing five or
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: seven step drops. I would love I would love some
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: straight under center five like classic five or seven step drop,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Give me that. That would be fun. Are you still
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: hoping to see some pistol working in the offense this year.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: I'm not commenting on it because I just don't think
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: it's gonna happen. I'm off pistol right now. I'll take some, alum,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: but I'm happy with under center. Like under center is fine.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: Run the offense out of under center. Give me some
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: true straight drop back out of under center, but then
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: give me some play action run game stuff as well.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: I would like some more pistol, especially with how mobile
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Allen is and the athlete that he is. But I'm
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: fine with the under center stuff. They can go under center.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: I'm cool with that. But yeah, I still believe the pistol. Okay,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Morey says, I'm sure an Slackers will be giving more pistol.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Roberts is Pete Carmichael effect on the backs catching passes,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: buying or selling the stock I'm buying. I think we
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: get more option routes out of the backfield, so running
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: backs reading leverage either breaking to the flat sitting in
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: the window in the soft spot and zone or breaking
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: across somebody's face on a texas route or an angle route. Also,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: option routes can be called choice routes. Yes, but I
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: am buying Pete Pete, Markles, Pete Carmichael's effect on the
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: backs catching passes. I am buying that stock. Charles says
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: dd more changes how defenses can playoffs us last season.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: I completely agree, and he says backs catching passes should
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: go up significantly. I just don't want screens. We need
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: real pass shouts. I'll take some screens, though, especially if
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: teams want to blitz josh Allen. I will take that.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: It's just got to be timed right, and josh Allen
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: is not good at throwing screens. And it's also hard
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: because teams usually don't blitz them out right like that,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: and they always have spies and guys with rush lane
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: integrity waiting to kind of choke him out because of
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: how much of a Freddy is. Laura says, well, we
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: definitely need the O line to step up big time
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: if we want to push the ball downfield, because Joshua
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: sacked like mad last year.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: Need major protection for our MVP. That's fair point.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: If you want to push the ball downfield, you usually
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: need to hold on to the ball longer, and in
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: order to hold down to the ball longer and.
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: Push the ball downfield, you need your offensive line up
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: front to protect for a long time. Very fair point.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: I'm actually kind of annoying to myself that I didn't
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: naturally mention that.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Well done, Laura. I appreciate you.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've talked about before.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: He's one of the best usually in pressure in rate
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: of pressures that get converted to sacks. Two years ago
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: he was essentially the best in the league. I think
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: it was nine percent. Last year his pressure to sacrate
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: jumped to eighteen points something, so essentially double. Pretty crazy.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Feel free to keep everyone keep putting up questions, thoughts, commons, concerns,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: to anything and everything into the chat as I talk
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: about the best pizza Buffalo, New York One Pie Pizza.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: If you live in Buffalo and you have not gotten
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: yourself some one Pie pizza, I don't judge to each
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: their own. It's understandable. I get it, But also, what
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: are you doing get yourself one Pie Pizza the best
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: pizza in Buffalo, New York. I don't say that because
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: they sponsored the show. They sponsored the show because I
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: sincerely believe they are the best pizza in Buffalo. Sweet

- 1:07:06Speaker 1: some Josh Allen stuff, phenomenal. You can get one of
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: their specialty pizzas, you can create your own pie, whatever
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: you want to do.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: It's all great.

- 1:07:25Speaker 1: always get pizza. Yes I get a bunch of the
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: different kinds of mac and cheeses that they do. But
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: there's real dinner stuff there too, like salads and chicken
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: and rice dishes, and it's all just really great, top quality,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: top notch food. They're really good people making really good food.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: And they're good people because I know them and how
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: kind they are, and they also show that kindness with
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: what they do for the community of Buffalo and parting
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: with the SPCA, the Alzheimer's Foundation Toys for Tots parting
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: with Roswell and Knockout Cancer. Very community focused, very focused
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: on giving back in addition to just treating everyone's taste
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: buds every single week with One Pie Pizza. RJ is
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: nomenal with one Pie Pizza, and r J says I'm

- 1:09:55Speaker 1: tomorrow night. Comment here, do you believe the new defensive
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: scheme is going to help the the offense? Iron sharpens,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: iron wide, receivers actually learning to beat press man, I
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: do think having a defense that is more in line
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: with current defensive trends in current defensive meta seeing that regularly, yes,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: I do think that will help the Bill's offense. Appreciate you, Andy,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: and he says, I see the notice on my phone,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: so I joined when I can.

- 1:10:37Speaker 1: your comment of definitely bringing my binoculars and watching the
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: defensive line. Now, yeah, I've been doing that for years,
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: to start doing that as a little kid, and I'm

- 1:10:46Speaker 1: I appreciate you, James. James says the tree is especially
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: bright tonight. Yeah, it does look like I got some
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: like ten thousand lumen level lights on the mini Christmas
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: tree back there, but no, it's just regular.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know why.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: I feel also feel like my cameras but bugging out
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: the past couple. I changed the angle of it when
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: I did Mina Kimes a show and then Football three
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: oh one with Nate Tice, and I feel like that
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: is caused focus stuff to change whenever I move, and
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: so I feel like the tree in the back, I'm
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: always terrible at this, the tree in the back, Like
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: these lights here and this one here, I feel like
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: it's got something to do with the focus. Pett does
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: look like extra charged up, like that like Electrode Villain
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: and Spider Man before he's like about to like when
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: he takes all the power from Times Square and a
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: text Spider Man. I'm tired.
