- 0:00Speaker 1: Peace of the planet, Charlamagne to God here and as
- 0:02Speaker 1: we come close to the closing out this year, I
- 0:04Speaker 1: just want to say thank you for tuning it into
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Black Effect podcast network. There have been so many
- 0:08Speaker 1: great moments over the past year. Take a listen to
- 0:10Speaker 1: some of those captivating moments in this special best of episode.
- 0:14Speaker 2: In order to be successful, you've got to not just
- 0:16Speaker 2: have the money, not just have access to the capital.
- 0:19Speaker 2: And I just have a great idea, a great business,
- 0:22Speaker 2: great hustle. You have to have the right mindset. I
- 0:25Speaker 2: was at dinner last night with my wife Shaeitra, and
- 0:29Speaker 2: it was a late dinner. You know, it was close
- 0:31Speaker 2: to midnight because I had on a Saturday two speeches.
- 0:35Speaker 2: And I could have complained about that and wine and
- 0:37Speaker 2: Mona could say that, you know, I've got high class problems,
- 0:40Speaker 2: and God gave me relevancy and a chance to make
- 0:42Speaker 2: a difference and just accept that and be thankful. So
- 0:44Speaker 2: I went to my first speech and did that and
- 0:46Speaker 2: went to my second that was for Van Jones on
- 0:48Speaker 2: artificial intelligence here in Atlanta. I went to my AI academy,
- 0:52Speaker 2: went to this an operation of hope. Did that help
- 0:53Speaker 2: him with the AI Ethics Council, which is coming by
- 0:56Speaker 2: the way, my work with Sam Aulman. Then I went
- 0:57Speaker 2: to the second speech. I went to my office work
- 0:59Speaker 2: the little bit, when changed clothes, took seed on. Went
- 1:03Speaker 2: to the second speech on Saturday night for the Black
- 1:05Speaker 2: Coffee Company, which I, you know, talked about earlier and
- 1:10Speaker 2: to encourage other investors to double down with them and
- 1:12Speaker 2: encourage them. And so anyway, we went to a late
- 1:16Speaker 2: dinner and I'm sitting there waiting for my wife to
- 1:19Speaker 2: show to come from the She went to the restroom
- 1:21Speaker 2: to wash her hands and whatever, and his brother walks
- 1:23Speaker 2: over to me and I can see him by the
- 1:24Speaker 2: side of my eye and I sort of know what
- 1:27Speaker 2: this is now is you know, he's about to approach me,
- 1:30Speaker 2: which is all good. I don't mind. And he said, look,
- 1:32Speaker 2: my guy, he did like a you know in these
- 1:36Speaker 2: celebrity things that you know, where the rock star, the
- 1:39Speaker 2: celebrity dude sends somebody else over with a message.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It's crazy. So he says to.
- 1:44Speaker 2: His my buddy over here has a finance company, black guy,
- 1:48Speaker 2: all of them are black, and he wants to come
- 1:51Speaker 2: talk business with you. That's okay. I said, well, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 2: I'm sort of. So I waved the dude right the
- 1:56Speaker 2: other guy, I say hello to the guy in front
- 1:58Speaker 2: of me. They're five feet from me. The other guy
- 2:00Speaker 2: he just sort of barely nods like he's some rock star. Okay, whatever, whatever,
- 2:04Speaker 2: whatever fumes you're on, whatever you're tripping on, that's is
- 2:07Speaker 2: your right. But I'm really unimpressed now. So I'm impressed
- 2:11Speaker 2: with the dud who came over to me. He's very respectful.
- 2:12Speaker 3: It is to look.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I'm on the day with my wife. I hope you
- 2:14Speaker 2: don't mind. I'm not gonna I'm an interested talking business
- 2:16Speaker 2: right now. He said, no problem, much respect, and he
- 2:20Speaker 2: always goes over. Now, what the move would have been
- 2:23Speaker 2: for the other guy is for him to gut get
- 2:25Speaker 2: his lazy rear in up, sorry, get his tail up.
- 2:29Speaker 2: And because love is work, non love is laziness. Anti
- 2:31Speaker 2: love is evil. Evil exist, but it's very rare. Most
- 2:33Speaker 2: people are just lazy, intellectually lazy, spiritually lazy, emotionally lazy,
- 2:37Speaker 2: financially lazy. They want somebody else to do the work.
- 2:41Speaker 2: He could have got up said to his lady, excuse me, baby,
- 2:43Speaker 2: I want to go say a low to him, come over.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Shook my hand look me in the ia man. I
- 2:47Speaker 2: heard what you said. All good. I should come over
- 2:50Speaker 2: myself to begin with my bad you know. Respect you're
- 2:53Speaker 2: out of date, so we you know, I just you
- 2:55Speaker 2: know whatever, respect, your work, whatever. I hope we can
- 2:57Speaker 2: catch up sometimes later I would have said, what's your name?
- 3:00Speaker 2: That would have been that would impress me. I would
- 3:02Speaker 2: remember him, and maybe even he had given him my
- 3:05Speaker 2: information to connect with me later or one of my
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know, senior leaders in my office. But he missed
- 3:09Speaker 2: that whole memo. He missed the opportunity because what Ambasator
- 3:12Speaker 2: Jung said is so true. Men and women fail for
- 3:15Speaker 2: three reasons. Arrogance, pride, in greed mindset. It wasn't about
- 3:19Speaker 2: whether he had a successful business or all that stuff.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You know, whether he's making money, I can kill. That's
- 3:22Speaker 2: when he's making money. I don't want your money. I
- 3:24Speaker 2: got my own, all right. All money is his freedom
- 3:26Speaker 2: and I got the freedom and not be interested.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Hello.
- 3:28Speaker 2: But he wanted to combine attitude because I wouldn't talk
- 3:31Speaker 2: to him, So he didn't say anything to me for
- 3:32Speaker 2: the rest of the evening, and I could care less.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And when he got up, I just thought it was
- 3:36Speaker 2: a test. When he got up, I thought he'd stop over.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I hoped he would for his sake, not mine. Did
- 3:42Speaker 2: he stop over? Say yo man, blah blah blah blah,
- 3:44Speaker 2: or you know something? Nothing ignored me walked out the
- 3:48Speaker 2: door because I would not speak to him earlier.
- 3:51Speaker 3: You're not hurting me.
- 3:53Speaker 2: You're hitting examples like that as you're hitting your face
- 3:56Speaker 2: against my fists. I'm not trying to pick a fight
- 3:59Speaker 2: emotionally at the actually with anybody. I'm just saying that
- 4:01Speaker 2: on the right way to handle it. You won the
- 4:03Speaker 2: battle and the loss of the war. I don't even
- 4:04Speaker 2: know who you won the battle. Don't even though sure
- 4:06Speaker 2: what the battle was. I was in minding my own business,
- 4:07Speaker 2: having dinner. You heard my feelings one little bit, but
- 4:10Speaker 2: you didn't give my information, you didn't give my number,
- 4:12Speaker 2: you didn't get my help. We're not going to do business,
- 4:14Speaker 2: and I won't remember you. I don't even remember you.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I remember the first guy, I will not remember the second,
- 4:20Speaker 2: not in a positive way. Nobody owes you anything. Stop
- 4:23Speaker 2: walking around entitled. Like the story of the young lady
- 4:26Speaker 2: I mentioned earlier in the trending topic who her girlfriends
- 4:30Speaker 2: thought that that boy owed her all expense freight. Anyway,
- 4:34Speaker 2: I don't want to pee. This frustrates me to even
- 4:36Speaker 2: think about it. Okay, here's a fan question. This was
- 4:38Speaker 2: a good podcast, wasn't it. It wasn't boring. Here's a
- 4:42Speaker 2: purple Indian woman. Purple Indian woman from Instagram. Purple Indian woman,
- 4:47Speaker 2: what are the best options for my two children? My
- 4:49Speaker 2: two daughters to start saving and investing now age twenty
- 4:52Speaker 2: five and sixteen? First of all, I'm glad you don't
- 4:54Speaker 2: think it's too late at twenty five to start investing
- 4:56Speaker 2: in sixteen. Certainly it's not too late. The answer to
- 4:59Speaker 2: this question, Purple Indian woman on Instagram, is the best
- 5:02Speaker 2: option for your two daughters is now and with you.
- 5:06Speaker 2: It's not about whether it's an index fund or this,
- 5:09Speaker 2: or stocks or real estate or fractual investing or bitcoin
- 5:13Speaker 2: or current cryptocurrency or whatever it is you want to do.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Start a business grat and it's important that they do
- 5:19Speaker 2: it with you. Get this book and read it with them,
- 5:22Speaker 2: Assign chapters to them. Let's come back and have a
- 5:25Speaker 2: family meeting about money, because the lights don't come on
- 5:27Speaker 2: by themselves. Have a discussion about this every week, about
- 5:30Speaker 2: money around financial listening for all, I want to see
- 5:32Speaker 2: that book dog cared and beat up and the page
- 5:35Speaker 2: is ripped and highlighted right, and you want to start
- 5:37Speaker 2: a conversation, have dinner together, what a concept once again
- 5:41Speaker 2: once a week and have a kitchen conversation about money
- 5:44Speaker 2: using the book as a discussion starter, and try to
- 5:47Speaker 2: get keep the spaghetti and the ribs.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Off, the ribs us off the book. And then let
- 5:53Speaker 3: them see how you roll.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Let show them your four oh one K account, show
- 5:57Speaker 2: them your real estate portfolio, show them your bills, like,
- 6:00Speaker 2: let them model what you do, because we model what
- 6:04Speaker 2: we see. That's the most important thing you can do
- 6:07Speaker 2: for your child is to be the role model that
- 6:10Speaker 2: they want to be, because that's who they see in
- 6:13Speaker 2: the world. You want to find a good man. Yeah,
- 6:15Speaker 2: the generalization, I'm generalizing, but this is this is mostly true.
- 6:20Speaker 2: And yes they're exception to this rule. So don't pick
- 6:22Speaker 2: a fight with me saying I know examples where this
- 6:24Speaker 2: is not the case.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I know you do.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You want to find a good woman, Find a woman
- 6:28Speaker 2: who's got a great relationship with her dad. You want
- 6:30Speaker 2: to find a good man, Find a man who's got
- 6:32Speaker 2: a good relationship with his mother. They are exceptions is
- 6:35Speaker 2: these rules. But what you and you really want. You know,
- 6:39Speaker 2: when I talk to somebody and I'm looking at him
- 6:42Speaker 2: there and their eyes are clean and they're they're positive,
- 6:45Speaker 2: they're looking at me, I can tell they had it
- 6:47Speaker 2: mom and a dad, or I can tell that a
- 6:49Speaker 2: strong ulture strong mom or an ultra strong dad that
- 6:53Speaker 2: really grounded them and balance out the fact that the
- 6:56Speaker 2: other mate wasn't there. You really mom and dad. But
- 6:58Speaker 2: you can, you can over index like my mother did.
- 7:01Speaker 2: My dad did it when I was with him and
- 7:02Speaker 2: when I move for my mother to be with him.
- 7:04Speaker 2: So give him credit. But my mother really was a
- 7:07Speaker 2: grounding sense situation. And she was a single mother, just
- 7:10Speaker 2: like seventy percent of all black households, and she told
- 7:12Speaker 2: me she loved me every day of my life and
- 7:14Speaker 2: I believed it. So look, you can survive, you can
- 7:19Speaker 2: chill and still succeed. But why would you want to right?
- 7:23Speaker 2: Why you don't want to just survive? You want to
- 7:24Speaker 2: thrive and you want to win. And stop saying these
- 7:27Speaker 2: kids that you're a baby daddy and your baby mama. Right,
- 7:30Speaker 2: you're messing up these kids head, messing with their self esteem.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Say you're a mommy. You're the mother or their father,
- 7:35Speaker 2: and you're proud of them. When they screw up, you say,
- 7:38Speaker 2: I'm mad at you. I'm upset with you. You future lawyer, you,
- 7:42Speaker 2: future entrepreneur, you, future business owner, you future engineer. I'm
- 7:46Speaker 2: upset with you, and I'm going to hold you accountable.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Now let's go to dinner. I'm gonna hold you accountable.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And here's your penalty for screwing up. Kids need love
- 7:54Speaker 2: and accountability, love and responsibility. You can't just you can't
- 7:59Speaker 2: just let kids walk away from their accountability. You end
- 8:02Speaker 2: up with punks, you know, with a mess on your hands.
- 8:05Speaker 2: They need to learn the word. No. You're not their
- 8:07Speaker 2: best friend, you're their parent. Oh, don't let me get
- 8:09Speaker 2: me started. It's a whole other podcast. People make the
- 8:16Speaker 2: mistake of thinking that being smart enough is enough.
- 8:19Speaker 3: It's not.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Good habits are more important than being smart. Actually, you
- 8:25Speaker 2: can't be a dummy, let me make that clear. And
- 8:27Speaker 2: everybody who can get a college education should get one.
- 8:31Speaker 2: But let me be clear, you must have good habits
- 8:33Speaker 2: in order to be successful. I'm going to do an
- 8:35Speaker 2: entire podcast on having good habits, but at the moment today,
- 8:40Speaker 2: I want to absolutely remove this stigma about failure. Failure
- 8:47Speaker 2: does not mean that you are a failure. It means
- 8:50Speaker 2: you failed at something. It means that there was an
- 8:52Speaker 2: outcome to experiment that was not successful. It doesn't define
- 8:57Speaker 2: who you are. It just says, this is what I
- 8:58Speaker 2: went through. It's it's it's on the path to where
- 9:01Speaker 2: you're going again. Rainbows only follow storms. Success, as I
- 9:05Speaker 2: said earlier, is going from failure to failure without loss
- 9:08Speaker 2: of enthusiasm, over to rounded through what you're going to
- 9:10Speaker 2: have to get to it. Success, as I keep saying,
- 9:14Speaker 2: is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.
- 9:17Speaker 2: It doesn't define you. Life is ten percent what life
- 9:19Speaker 2: does to you in ninety percent how you choose to
- 9:22Speaker 2: respond to it. What's your response is going to be?
- 9:25Speaker 2: You don't react to what you respond You come right
- 9:28Speaker 2: at it. You go. You come right at it, not
- 9:31Speaker 2: over to round it. You know, don't avoid it. You're
- 9:33Speaker 2: coming right to face it. Because what is a killion
- 9:37Speaker 2: makes you stronger, It makes you, It builds resiliency. Why
- 9:40Speaker 2: am I telling you this? Why is this important podcast
- 9:43Speaker 2: on money and wealth? Because every poverty, every form of
- 9:46Speaker 2: poverty two reasons. By the way, every form of poverty
- 9:51Speaker 2: three reasons. Beyond sustenance poverty, which is a roof over
- 9:54Speaker 2: your head, food on the table, and reasonable healthcare. Sustenance
- 9:58Speaker 2: poverty poverty just to sustain yourself. So everybody should have sustenance.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Everybody should have a roof over your head, reasonable health care,
- 10:07Speaker 2: food on the table. That should not be something that
- 10:09Speaker 2: we beg for in society. It's something that society provides.
- 10:14Speaker 2: It's biblical, by the way. But beyond that, every form
- 10:17Speaker 2: of poverty is mindset. Whether you believe you can, whether
- 10:22Speaker 2: you believe you can't, you're absolutely right. And so my
- 10:27Speaker 2: concern is this generation that we have today, who's grown
- 10:32Speaker 2: up seeing a black president, you know, who's grown up
- 10:37Speaker 2: seeing and experiencing a run up on the stock marketrket,
- 10:40Speaker 2: seeing real estate pride prices that have been on the rise.
- 10:46Speaker 2: They might have missed, probably did miss the two thousand
- 10:49Speaker 2: and eight real estate crisis. And even if they did,
- 10:53Speaker 2: it's in the rear view mirror. Who's who saw a
- 10:57Speaker 2: social justice reconing on black America, black and brown. If
- 11:02Speaker 2: you're African American, are African or people of African descent,
- 11:05Speaker 2: you've seen this, You've seen that you saw a positive
- 11:09Speaker 2: reaction to the deafestating murder of George Floyd, and you
- 11:12Speaker 2: saw somewhere between sixty billion and three hundred billion, depending
- 11:18Speaker 2: on how you calculated, invested in you.
- 11:23Speaker 3: And wow, there's pushback on that.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Now, the impression by somebody who's twenty or even thirty
- 11:32Speaker 2: years old might be that that success for me is preordained.
- 11:36Speaker 2: That's going to go to you know, go to college,
- 11:38Speaker 2: go to school. Maybe you know, maybe don't need school.
- 11:40Speaker 2: They may think, yes, you do. I need to address well,
- 11:44Speaker 2: you know, have a nice Instagram handle, have some great
- 11:48Speaker 2: social media, get some business cards made, you know, Lisa Carr,
- 11:52Speaker 2: go to some meetings, you know, say the right things,
- 11:58Speaker 2: and I'm going to be successful. I I deserve, I'm
- 12:01Speaker 2: entitled to success. No, you aren't, and you won't be
- 12:06Speaker 2: because you aren't prepared to fail.
- 12:10Speaker 3: You aren't.
- 12:11Speaker 2: You have no experience with failure. And the things that
- 12:15Speaker 2: rattle and shake people today absolutely astound me. I tell
- 12:19Speaker 2: people all the time that what you're going through is,
- 12:22Speaker 2: with all due respect, high class problems. If you live
- 12:26Speaker 2: in United States of America or a developed country you're
- 12:28Speaker 2: living in listening to this from the UK, now I
- 12:31Speaker 2: Kingdom me listening to this from some developed country somewhere
- 12:34Speaker 2: in the world. Frankly, if you're listening to this or
- 12:37Speaker 2: Washington this, you've got some kind of a digital device
- 12:39Speaker 2: that's cutting edge, then you consider yourself lucky. Certainly, if
- 12:43Speaker 2: you're in the United States of America and you have
- 12:45Speaker 2: a job, you've got a source of income, you have
- 12:50Speaker 2: you know, you have shelter, you have food, you have opportunity.
- 12:54Speaker 2: When you get up in the morning, you've you've been blessed,
- 12:56Speaker 2: you have at least one parent. And so there are
- 13:01Speaker 2: people in this world. There's a lady right now trying
- 13:03Speaker 2: to get from her hut on the east coast or
- 13:08Speaker 2: west coast of Africa, trying to get from her hut
- 13:10Speaker 2: to the well to get some water without being abused.
- 13:13Speaker 3: That's her daily challenge.
- 13:14Speaker 2: He's a woman in Afghanistan right now that's trying to
- 13:17Speaker 2: keep her basic dignity and goes on. In a third
- 13:20Speaker 2: of the world, it appears as at war with itself.
- 13:23Speaker 2: And so I'm not discounting your problems when I'm saying,
- 13:27Speaker 2: if you're concerned about your credit card bill or the
- 13:29Speaker 2: mortgage payment or whatever, that's important. Yes, and yes you
- 13:32Speaker 2: got too much, wanted end of your money. But consider
- 13:35Speaker 2: yourself blessed to have these problems. So I wanted to
- 13:38Speaker 2: first tell you I've been to where you are. That's
- 13:41Speaker 2: why I found an operation Hope, because I've had that
- 13:44Speaker 2: experience with it at nine years old, when the classroom,
- 13:46Speaker 2: when that baker came to my classroom and taught me
- 13:48Speaker 2: financial literacy, and everybody else was throwing paper planes and
- 13:53Speaker 2: playing around and joking. But again I had by that time,
- 13:56Speaker 2: I had these experiences where I saw a murder of
- 14:00Speaker 2: my guy who saved my life. I know experienced. I
- 14:04Speaker 2: didn't see it firsthand, but of course experience my best
- 14:06Speaker 2: friend being murdered with my next for neighbor over drugs.
- 14:09Speaker 2: And I saw my bomb and dad divorce and family
- 14:12Speaker 2: tore apart, my mother hustle to go buy our house,
- 14:15Speaker 2: our first house in come to California as a single mother,
- 14:18Speaker 2: and I had taken life seriously by the time I
- 14:21Speaker 2: was nine years old. And this banker came in my
- 14:23Speaker 2: classroom in tall financial literacy home economics class which doesn't
- 14:26Speaker 2: exist anymore, And I asked that banker, what do you
- 14:29Speaker 2: do for a living and how did you get rich?
- 14:30Speaker 3: Legally? And I was dead serious. And where'd you get
- 14:35Speaker 3: that suit? From?
- 14:36Speaker 2: Man?
- 14:36Speaker 3: Only people I wear.
- 14:36Speaker 2: The only white man I saw wear a suit in
- 14:38Speaker 2: this neighborhood is a detective. And it's not a good suit.
- 14:41Speaker 2: It's a bad suit. I don't mean a bad suit.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I mean a bad suit. I mean polyester. I mean
- 14:46Speaker 2: not a good suit. Why tie this dude's suit? That
- 14:48Speaker 2: was gorgeous? It was beautiful. It was Italian stitching. I
- 14:51Speaker 2: could see it today. It was dark blue. He had
- 14:53Speaker 2: a white shirt and a red tie crisp. He had
- 14:56Speaker 2: Polo shoes. He had a business card. Nobody in my
- 14:58Speaker 2: family had a business card. It said the sixteenth floor.
- 15:01Speaker 2: There was nothing beyond the I believe the six floors
- 15:04Speaker 2: of I think he was six floors, might have been eight,
- 15:07Speaker 2: eight floors or something. But it wasn't a skyscraper in Compton.
- 15:10Speaker 2: That was a courthouse. Everything else was just a couple
- 15:13Speaker 2: stories or single story in Compton. It was in the
- 15:18Speaker 2: sixteenth floor. Man, where you work, how do you hear
- 15:20Speaker 2: in the middle of the day. My mom was an
- 15:22Speaker 2: hourly worker. McDonald donlon's aircraft became Bowling aircraft. She had
- 15:26Speaker 2: a two fifteen minute breaks in lunch other than that,
- 15:28Speaker 2: she was an hourly worker. She only showed up to
- 15:30Speaker 2: school if I got in trouble, and that wasn't a
- 15:32Speaker 2: good thing when I saw her show up at school.
- 15:34Speaker 2: So how are you showing up anytime you want during
- 15:36Speaker 2: the day. I'm on a salary. What's a salary? It's
- 15:39Speaker 2: like I was a medium Martian man. And again he
- 15:41Speaker 2: told me, I'm a banker and on finance entrepreneurs. I said, sir,
- 15:44Speaker 2: I don't know what an entrepreneur is, but if you're
- 15:46Speaker 2: financing it and it's legal, I'm gonna be one. Rainbows
- 15:50Speaker 2: after storms. I became one. So I bought a piece
- 15:58Speaker 2: of property in Los Angeles for a couple hundred thousand dollars.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It was a townhouse. When I bought it, I was
- 16:05Speaker 2: very proud of it. I lived in it. It went
- 16:09Speaker 2: down in value while I lived in it. I was
- 16:12Speaker 2: encouraged by my broke friends to sell it. Now they
- 16:17Speaker 2: broke again. Watch what you pay attention to for advice, right,
- 16:19Speaker 2: my broke friends didn't even own a townhouse. They were
- 16:22Speaker 2: written talking about, Yo, you need to sell that. Just look,
- 16:25Speaker 2: leave your bad advice in your bad in your well
- 16:29Speaker 2: intentioned bad mouth, like in your head. Keep just say
- 16:32Speaker 2: hello to me. That's that's all I want to hear.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Is you know it's an old Southern saying. No matter
- 16:37Speaker 2: how much I love you, my son or my daughter,
- 16:38Speaker 2: if I don't have wisdom, I can only give you
- 16:40Speaker 2: my own ignorance. So out of love, we passed down
- 16:43Speaker 2: bad habits and bad advice from generation to generation. Is
- 16:46Speaker 2: what we don't know that we don't know. This killing
- 16:48Speaker 2: is what we think we know. We never got the memo.
- 16:51Speaker 2: That's my third or fourth book. The think is my
- 16:54Speaker 2: third book, that we never got the memos what we
- 16:55Speaker 2: don't know that we don't know. So stop listening to
- 16:57Speaker 2: people who have give you bad advice on no experience.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:02Speaker 2: So that my friends quotation marks told me to sell
- 17:06Speaker 2: my house. Luckily I didn't pay attention to him. The condo.
- 17:09Speaker 2: I moved out and rented it out to you tenant,
- 17:13Speaker 2: and they were slow paying, but they paid, and I
- 17:16Speaker 2: had to pay the property taxes every year, but it
- 17:17Speaker 2: was mostly covered by the renter. And I forgot about it.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I said it and released it, just like I told
- 17:23Speaker 2: you to buy it, put money aside, set and release.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I just forgot about it. And because I just figured,
- 17:29Speaker 2: you know, can't be you know, over time it will
- 17:32Speaker 2: at least be worth what.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I paid for it.
- 17:34Speaker 2: So a few years past and I moved to Atlanta,
- 17:38Speaker 2: and I'm trying to buy a piece of property that's
- 17:42Speaker 2: you know, about seven hund and fifty thousand dollars. And
- 17:45Speaker 2: I call my friend, a broker in Los Angeles happened
- 17:49Speaker 2: to be a person of color, Mister low is his name,
- 17:53Speaker 2: And I said, to check on this property from me,
- 17:56Speaker 2: and he said sure. I said, well, what do you
- 17:57Speaker 2: think I can get for it? He said, well, because
- 17:59Speaker 2: I had a couple of properties selling this one, you
- 18:01Speaker 2: can probably get seven undred fifty thousand dollars for I said,
- 18:03Speaker 2: what did you say? What did you say? Seven hundred
- 18:07Speaker 2: and fifty thousand dollars. I bought it for two hundred
- 18:10Speaker 2: thousand change had gone down one hundred thousand change. My
- 18:12Speaker 2: so called friends told me to sell it. Hello, five years,
- 18:17Speaker 2: six years later, it's worth seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
- 18:21Speaker 2: It's worth even more now I sold it. You have
- 18:24Speaker 2: a year to do a tax free exchange, which means
- 18:26Speaker 2: you pay no taxes. And I found the property that
- 18:31Speaker 2: I wanted to buy, and I purchased a property that
- 18:33Speaker 2: I wanted to buy with the proceeds of the property
- 18:34Speaker 2: I just sold, and I paid no taxes. So there
- 18:38Speaker 2: you go. And you want to check with your tax
- 18:41Speaker 2: man and all this stuff. You know, don't listen to
- 18:43Speaker 2: me and say John Bryant told me to do this.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I'm just giving you, you know, examples of what you
- 18:49Speaker 2: can do, but you need to check with your tax
- 18:52Speaker 2: pro and or my hope, financial coaches for exactly what
- 18:55Speaker 2: you should do or how to do it. It's go
- 18:57Speaker 2: by the way, It's called a ten thirty one tax
- 18:59Speaker 2: free exchange change in the revenue the Internal Revenue Code.
- 19:03Speaker 2: But again, techer, check with your tax pro see how
- 19:05Speaker 2: it relates to you. Okay, let's get to the fan question.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I just made you a millionaire. Well you did, because
- 19:11Speaker 2: you're going to work hard at it. But you know now,
- 19:14Speaker 2: there's no reason why you're not going to be better
- 19:15Speaker 2: off after you do this when you than before. I mean,
- 19:20Speaker 2: it's like somebody said, why should I try God? Well,
- 19:24Speaker 2: because God cannot possibly screw up and mismanage your life
- 19:28Speaker 2: worse than you have. So give them a try. Let's
- 19:31Speaker 2: see how that works out, and given it says Universe.
- 19:34Speaker 2: In my opinion, you'll probably be Okay. I can't guarantee
- 19:37Speaker 2: you that being positive is going to make you a success,
- 19:39Speaker 2: but I absolutely guarantee you that being negative will ultimately
- 19:42Speaker 2: make you fail. I want you to be positive. I
- 19:44Speaker 2: want you to employ common sense. Literally, every group of
- 19:49Speaker 2: people in this country, two hundred plus ethnic groups have
- 19:51Speaker 2: succeeded using free enterprise capitalism and a market economy and
- 19:54Speaker 2: the things that I've told you. The only three groups
- 19:56Speaker 2: that have been left behind African Americans, not all Africans Americans.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna deal with Africans versus Africans or blacks versus blacks.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Is that a thing? And that's not a negative situation.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I mean, blacks are blacks? Is that a thing. I'm
- 20:09Speaker 2: gonna deal with that in a second part a separate podcast,
- 20:12Speaker 2: because it is a thing. But African Americans, not African
- 20:15Speaker 2: Africans or African Caribbeans. African Americans who had a special
- 20:19Speaker 2: treatment negative in this country, and who's really our self seening.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Our brains were messed with, Our minds and mindsets were
- 20:26Speaker 2: messed with, all right, and Native American Indians, Okay, they
- 20:29Speaker 2: didn't have a good run and poor whites. Yes, poor
- 20:33Speaker 2: whites are those three groups that did not use free enterprise,
- 20:36Speaker 2: capitalism and market economy to succeed. Two of those groups
- 20:39Speaker 2: actually use a government and you and government will help
- 20:42Speaker 2: you cover your downside. And we need good government. We
- 20:45Speaker 2: need civil rights, but you also need civil rights. We
- 20:48Speaker 2: need not just red rooms stopping bad things like just
- 20:51Speaker 2: police discrimination and bias and all the negative stuff. We
- 20:54Speaker 2: need some green rooms, access to capital, access to internships,
- 20:57Speaker 2: extra apprenticeship, access to apprenticeships, access to to credit, access
- 21:01Speaker 2: to financing, access to opportunity and aspiration. Can I get
- 21:06Speaker 2: an amen? This is a church of what's happening now
- 21:10Speaker 2: and what have you done for me lately?
- 21:12Speaker 1: Once again, thank you for tuning into the Black Effect
