- 0:00Titus chapter 2. Let us pray.
- 0:08Our God is higher than any other.
- 0:11You are the Most High God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
- 0:16the God of Israel, the God of Jacob.
- 0:22We love you, Father. We love everything about you.
- 0:25We thank you for your Holy scriptures.
- 0:28We thank you that we can know you and be known by you.
- 0:31We thank you, God, that we have the ability to read and the
- 0:37ability to reason and the ability to think, the ability to
- 0:45dive deep into your Holy Scriptures.
- 0:48God, I pray that Scripture will interpret Scripture line upon
- 0:53line and precept upon precept. God, let us be edified in the
- 0:57highest. Let us come to the saving
- 1:00knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 1:03I pray, Father, for a deeper understanding, for greater
- 1:09intellect, greater wisdom. Father, for your word, I pray
- 1:13that there will be many who get saved today.
- 1:16God, give us sound doctrine and sound theology.
- 1:20Help us, Lord, to know your thoughts.
- 1:24Help us to discern your ways. God, I pray that we don't grow
- 1:29lazy. I pray that we don't become
- 1:32complacent. Father, I pray that we'll finish
- 1:35this race well. Lord, I pray that we'll adorn
- 1:38ourselves and make ourselves ready for your return.
- 1:42God, we look up. Lord, we wait and we watch.
- 1:46God help us to be worthy to find the escape.
- 1:50God of all the things that are coming upon this world.
- 1:55Lord, I pray that you'll help us to teach everyone into tell
- 2:01everyone about you. God, help us not to be cowards,
- 2:05help us not to shrink back in fear.
- 2:08But God, give us a boldness and a zeal that can only come from
- 2:12you. Give us the words inside of our
- 2:15mouths. Lord, let it be like fire.
- 2:17Shut up in our bones. Woe to us if we do not preach
- 2:21the gospel. Father, I pray that you'll
- 2:24increase as we decrease. King Jesus, Holy Spirit, fill us
- 2:30today Maranatha come, Lord, come in Jesus Christ holy and
- 2:40precious name I pray, Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 2:49But speak you the things which become sound doctrine.
- 2:56So here is an amazing chapter in God's Word, and this is going to
- 3:03outline what it looks like to have a healthy, vibrant
- 3:08congregation that is working in the beautiful order that God has
- 3:14ordained. He tells us to have sound
- 3:16doctrine. We can have sound doctrine if we
- 3:24know the entirety of God's Word from Genesis to Revelation.
- 3:31Not what a seminary has taught us, not what is popular within
- 3:38the culture. Sound doctrine comes from
- 3:42knowing who gives you the Word. Sound doctrine comes from
- 3:49knowing Him and being known by Him.
- 3:52Sound doctrine comes from studying every single syllable
- 3:59that is contained within the 66 book Canon of God's Word.
- 4:05There are so many people in chaos and confusion because they
- 4:09call into question one single comma or period in God's Word.
- 4:16If you do not believe the entirety of God's Word, if there
- 4:20is one section of God's Word that you cannot get behind or
- 4:24you call into question, you might as well take the entirety
- 4:29of God's Word and throw it out the window.
- 4:35Sound doctrine comes from laying the Bible open and saying, I'm
- 4:41going to believe every single word that is contained within
- 4:47this Bible, nothing added and nothing subtracted, the
- 4:52infallible and errant word of God.
- 4:56That is where you will find sound doctrine.
- 4:59God will be well pleased to continue to pour out into you
- 5:03new wisdom and revelation if you will take Him at His Word.
- 5:09And if you want to note God's unrevealed will for your life,
- 5:13you must obey the revealed will for your life which is in the
- 5:19Bible. And it is ignorance of the Word
- 5:22of God that is plaguing the church today.
- 5:25We only want to cherry pick verses and then create a 45
- 5:30minute dialogue off of a couple verses.
- 5:34And that is how you water down God's Word.
- 5:37We need the concise. We need the pure word, friends.
- 5:44We need the entirety of God's Word, not just little portions
- 5:50of it. And we need to feed ourselves.
- 5:55We do not need to be those who are looking to be spoon fed
- 5:59because we're too lazy to bring our hand up to our mouth from
- 6:04the bowl. We need to be people who never
- 6:08put down the Word of God from the morning to the afternoon
- 6:12into the evening. And even as we sleep, we're
- 6:15meditating upon God's Word. Friends, that is what's going to
- 6:20edify the church. That is what's going to help us
- 6:23to safeguard against the counterfeit that's coming at an
- 6:27alarming rate. Friends, this apostate church,
- 6:30this great falling away, the false teachers, the tickling
- 6:34ears, the false prophets. Friends, that is coming in mass
- 6:41waves. We need to be rooted and
- 6:44grounded in God's Word if we want sound doctrine, if we want
- 6:48to know his heart and his mind. 2 That the aged men be sober and
- 6:56grave and temperate, sound in faith and charity in patience.
- 7:01This is a call for the older men not to become embittered, not to
- 7:07let a root of bitterness grow as they age, not to be those who
- 7:13just for the sake of being an elder, breaking other people
- 7:20down, that is not from God. The older men are called to be
- 7:26sober minded, to be those who are temperate, who are not given
- 7:33over to excessiveness, those that enjoy life, but they know
- 7:39how to be serious. 3 The aged women likewise that they be in
- 7:47behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to
- 7:54much wine, teachers of good things.
- 7:57That is what the older women are called to be.
- 8:01Not busy bodies, not telling little white lies, not
- 8:06gossiping, not using prayer as a way to gossip.
- 8:15But they are called to be those that are teaching the younger
- 8:19women, not giving themselves over to much wine, not getting
- 8:24addicted to a substance, friends, not allowing the enemy
- 8:31to deceive them. For that, they may teach the
- 8:37young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their
- 8:42children. That is the role of the older
- 8:45women within the church. The older women are to be
- 8:49teaching the younger women. It is not for the pastor to
- 8:55intertwine himself within the younger women of the church.
- 9:00That is not wisdom, friends. It is not that the younger women
- 9:05are not to be taught by the pastor, but it is to be in a
- 9:10community setting and not on these one on ones friends.
- 9:13That is where so much infidelity, so much moral
- 9:19failure has come because the pastor has used his opportunity
- 9:24as the leader to weasel his way in to these relationships that
- 9:31are extra marital. And you can see the deceiver
- 9:38having a heyday and this accuser of the brethren breaking down
- 9:42the family unit because of these moral failures, which is sin.
- 9:48It's sinfulness and it does not please God.
- 9:52So we need to have wisdom and we need to have guard rails up for
- 9:57our marriage. We don't need to be alone with
- 10:00the opposite sex friends. We need to make sure that we are
- 10:06safeguarding our marriage and that we are not those who are
- 10:11trying to use the positions we have to get our own way.
- 10:18God will see it and God will deal with it and it will all
- 10:22come to light before long. And that is 100% guarantee.
- 10:27And He sees your motives, He hears your thoughts.
- 10:30He knows the things that are going on behind closed doors.
- 10:39Five to be discreet, chaste keepers at home, good obedient
- 10:46to their own husbands that the word of God be not blasphemy.
- 10:51What a an occasion for Satan to rail against the church when he
- 10:58sees that the church is no different than the rest of the
- 11:02world. They're steeped in idolatry,
- 11:05they're steeped in lust, they're steeped in infidelity.
- 11:10And it is a great occasion for the enemy to turn many people
- 11:17away from church because of all of the secret sins that come to
- 11:23light as time goes on. And they say, look, I told you
- 11:26so. Look at what my youth pastor did
- 11:30to me. Did you hear about the pastor
- 11:33and his wife and so on and so forth.
- 11:37And it is disturbing. And God is not going to be
- 11:41mocked. And you might as well shut the
- 11:44doors if you have kicked the Holy Spirit out, if you've
- 11:49kicked Jesus out and it's become a Country Club, and if it's just
- 11:54become a social hangout, then shut the doors.
- 11:58Friends, six young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
- 12:06So it's very important that there is a disciple cycle that
- 12:10is happening within the confines of the church and no man is an
- 12:14island and we all have to have someone who we can look up to
- 12:20who can disciple us. We have never arrived and we
- 12:23won't arrive until we make it into glory.
- 12:27Friends, look for those that you can disciple and always be open
- 12:33minded to being discipled and not being offended by a hard
- 12:39word from an elder, from somebody who has been walking
- 12:43with the Lord faithfully for longer than you.
- 12:46Friends and whenever they correct you, don't get your
- 12:50feelings hurt. Make sure you go to the Lord God
- 12:54Almighty and have a conversation with God and say Lord, if there
- 13:01is truth in this matter then help me to see it.
- 13:04Help me to grow Lord, but if there is no truth in what they
- 13:10are saying God, then let it fall off of me.
- 13:13And that is the best way that we can not be offended by the harsh
- 13:18words of a brother. Seven in all things, showing
- 13:26yourself a pattern of good works in doctrine, showing
- 13:29uncorruptness, gravity and sincerity, A sound speech that
- 13:35cannot be condemned. That he that is of the contrary
- 13:40part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
- 13:45That is such wisdom, and God is so good to show us these Nuggets
- 13:51of truth here. The church is called to be
- 13:54different, so that when the world looks in on it, they are
- 13:58ashamed of all of the disgusting things that they have been doing
- 14:03and what they have made life out to be, of nothing but pleasure
- 14:08and nothing but selfish gain. And the church is to be such a
- 14:13light that it shines the light on the darkness, and the
- 14:17darkness cannot overcome it. We are called to be salt,
- 14:21friends. When poured into a wound, it
- 14:23cleanses all of the bacteria and all of the infection out of that
- 14:32wound, friends. We're called to be salt and to
- 14:35season this world that is bland and it is dying and going by the
- 14:39wayside, friends. And they've made it all about
- 14:42self and vanity. They've made it all about money
- 14:46and greed. They've made it all about their
- 14:49image and it has left them wanting friends.
- 14:54And when they look in on us and we have Koinonia and we have
- 14:59fellowship friends and we have communion friends, it is
- 15:04attractive and they are ashamed of the life that they are
- 15:08living. 9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters
- 15:18and to please them well in all things.
- 15:21Not answering Again, this is not only relative to the time that
- 15:28Paul was writing to Titus where there were bond servants, but
- 15:35this is also applicable to our day and our hour for employers
- 15:40and employees. We don't need to be those who
- 15:43back talk. We don't need to be those who
- 15:47have to have the final say. We need to respect those that
- 15:51are in authority over us 10 not pilfering, but showing all good
- 16:03fidelity that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior and
- 16:08all things. This is somebody who doesn't
- 16:11take advantage of a believing employer.
- 16:15This is not somebody who just pilfers and takes things that is
- 16:22not theirs. This is somebody who practices
- 16:25integrity regardless of who's watching.
- 16:29And if there was ever a time in the history of mankind to
- 16:33practice integrity, it would be today. 11 For the grace of God
- 16:39that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
- 16:43So God is the one who initiates our salvation, and it is grace
- 16:49through faith, friends. And we need to take him when
- 16:54he's drawing us to himself. We don't need to blasphemy the
- 16:59Holy Spirit. We don't need to keep going our
- 17:02own way. Today is the day of salvation,
- 17:05friends, and you don't know if today's going to be your last
- 17:09day on planet earth. This could be the very last
- 17:13chance that you have to receive salvation, and God is the one
- 17:20who is offering it to you. But you must have the
- 17:23wherewithal to reach out and to take it by faith.
- 17:31And it's available to every man or woman on planet earth, all
- 17:37the way around every continent. It's available to them.
- 17:41This is not just the religion of the Jews.
- 17:44This is not just the religion of one particular race, friends.
- 17:50This is for every people group, all languages, friends.
- 17:56And God already knows who belongs to him. 12 teaching us
- 18:01that denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live
- 18:05soberly, righteously godly in this present world.
- 18:10You need to know that God initiates the salvation, and he
- 18:15brings heaven to earth, and he gives it to you, and slivers and
- 18:19impart and dimly and darkly. And one day we will see it in
- 18:23its entirety, in the fullness, friends, and we look forward to
- 18:27that day, but we can start living it today.
- 18:31We don't have to wait for eternity There we can receive
- 18:35our joy. Today We can receive purpose.
- 18:38Today we can receive the presence of God in our life as
- 18:46the Shekinah glory shines all around us as we're filled with
- 18:52the Holy Ghost. Friends, and you need to know
- 18:56that no matter what this world throws at you, whether it's
- 19:00death and disease, whether it is hard times, whether it's war,
- 19:07whether it's famine, friends, He will be with you during that
- 19:11time. And that is all the solace that
- 19:14we could ever need. Friends, no matter what comes
- 19:18our way, we have Him and He's there with us and He's going to
- 19:22guide us and lead us home and He's going to be there when we
- 19:26cross through the water. 13 looking for that blessed hope
- 19:33and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior
- 19:37Jesus Christ. That's what we look for.
- 19:40That's what we push towards. That's what we yearn for more
- 19:45than anything is Him, the appearing of Him.
- 19:51We want Him more than we want the very next breath that we
- 19:55draw. It is glorious 14 who gave
- 20:01Himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and
- 20:06purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
- 20:11Is that your calling card? Are you zealous for him?
- 20:15Are you zealous for the Lord Jesus Christ?
- 20:18Is he what consumes your thoughts?
- 20:21Is he, what is he, what consumes your day, friends?
- 20:24Is it the good works of knowing where you stand in Christ Jesus
- 20:30that you are performing? Not so that you can have some
- 20:34kind of special election amongst Him, but because He is worthy of
- 20:39all of the things that we do. And he is glorious, friends, and
- 20:43He's lovely. We'll end on 15 these things.
- 20:48Speak and exhort and rebuke with all authority and let no man
- 20:55despise you. What an amazing chapter here in
- 20:59God's Word. Paul writing to Titus and
- 21:02telling them don't let anybody despise you.
- 21:05You have full authority. And that is our call as well.
- 21:11We have the complete authority of God's word if we will take
- 21:16him at His Word, He'll give a sound doctrine, and He'll give
- 21:20us the authority to be able to speak truth in love.
- 21:27We don't need to be hateful and it's easy to make a point, but
- 21:33it's hard to make a difference. We are called to be difference
- 21:37makers. We're called to be peacemakers.
- 21:40We're called to be more than conquerors.
- 21:42We don't need to fear the one who can kill the body.
- 21:47We don't need to try to hold on to this life and try to get the
- 21:52life to come. If you'll lose your life for His
- 21:55name's sake, you will gain eternal life.
- 21:58You don't need to try to play both sides and be lukewarm.
- 22:02And you want this life and the life to come.
- 22:05Friends, give it up. Die to self today.
- 22:15Love Jesus Christ more than you love anyone else.
- 22:22In comparison, it should look like hate.
- 22:27It's Jesus and it's Jesus and is Jesus alone who is our great
- 22:33reward. I pray that you can say that
- 22:38today. I pray that there's not the bird
- 22:42that comes and snatches the seed.
- 22:45I pray that there's not the shallow soil that Withers when
- 22:50there's a little persecution. I pray that the tares and the
- 22:55snares and the briars are not choking out the fruitfulness of
- 22:59your life. I pray for fertile soil.
- 23:02I pray that you will produce much fruit.
- 23:11I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 23:14Word, and I sure have. I love you.
- 23:29I'm praying for you. We'll see you back here
- 23:39tomorrow. God bless you.
