Transcript
- 0:00Welcome. We've got our friend Olivier Melnick, Shalom in Messiah Ministries to
- 0:05Day to talk about the Feast of Purim and more coming up next.
- 0:11Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues,
- 0:17discerning current events, defending biblical Christianity, no topic off
- 0:24limits. And now, here's your host David Firazzo. Hey brothers and sisters and
- 0:32Christ friends family thank you so much for tuning in and for your support. I
- 0:36want to mention you know we've been getting donations you know we do a
- 0:39fundraiser twice a year because we are supported by you but you know people do
- 0:43throughout the year send in donation. I don't want to miss just telling you
- 0:49about people that are so generous to give donations so I want to mention the
- 0:53latest comes from James from Tennessee and we also heard from Jan in
- 0:59California. Tulum Tulum knee I think. Cynthia from Florida, Scott and Terry from
- 1:07Wakashaw, Wisconsin, Nina from Charlottesville, Virginia, our dear friend. Susan
- 1:12from Kalamazoo Michigan, Polly from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Julie from Stevens
- 1:17Point, Rebecca from Plimpton, Ontario. I may have mentioned that before but
- 1:22just in case that's in Canada for those of you that are keeping score and also
- 1:26in Canada, William from Merrillville, BC, British Columbia. Oh Cheryl from
- 1:31DePierre, Wisconsin. Thank you guys so very much. We appreciate not only your
- 1:36prayers but of course your financial support. So today, Olivia Melleneck is
- 1:40back with us. We've got a lot of things to talk about. We've talked about his
- 1:43books before the new anti-semitism. What's happening on college campuses?
- 1:48What's going on in Israel in the Middle East? Today we're going to talk about one of
- 1:51the feasts from the Bible and of the Jews and look at the book of Esther. But
- 1:57first Olivia, good to see your brother. Thanks for your time today. David, thank
- 2:02you so much for having me on the show. It's always a pleasure sharing some time
- 2:06with you. It always is and it goes by way too fast. So let's get to your blog real
- 2:10quick. I love it. I mean we need to call out Hollywood for all their idiocy and
- 2:15their lack of biblical worldview and their hostility toward whether that be
- 2:19Christians or Jews. But you've got an article a new blog on your website in
- 2:22the category anti-Semitic propaganda. The Oscar goes to. So tell us a little bit
- 2:28about that and we'll jump into today's topic. Yeah, I just posted the article
- 2:32hours ago and this was a response to a movie called No Other Land that was
- 2:39directed by two gentlemen, one Arab and one Israeli who co-labored on trying to
- 2:50do a documentary doing a documentary on the situation in Judea Samaria and
- 2:56the territories, so to speak. And they're taking this approach and the
- 3:03documentary that they got to work together towards peace. So you know in you
- 3:06know, if you paint with broad strokes, you know, you know, at 30,000 feet you go
- 3:11like, yeah, yeah, that sounds like a good concept. But then you look at a watch
- 3:16the trailer and I watch the acceptance speech of the two gentlemen and the way
- 3:21they use the platform, the stage at the Oscars to promote anti-Jewish rhetoric
- 3:29and anti-Semitism. And I'm thinking my goodness now, I knew that the Oscars
- 3:36haven't watched the Oscars in probably two decades to be honest. But I knew that
- 3:40it was becoming very political. What was very scary is that when when the
- 3:45statements were made by the acceptance speech by the especially by the Arab
- 3:49guy, people were clapping when he was talking about we have to stop genocide, the
- 3:54ethnic cleansing, they were clapping, they were cheering and it shows you not
- 3:58just the fact that this message is being promoted at the Oscars and you're
- 4:04receiving an Oscar now. But the whole crowd is not going like, I mean, I'm not
- 4:09saying the whole crowd. I'm sure there were people that were probably not in
- 4:12an agreement, but they went along in some kind of a cognitive dissonance that
- 4:17went along to fit in. And at the end of the article, I say, what's next? Are we
- 4:23going to have a new category in a Nobel Prizes anti-Semitic Nobel Prizes?
- 4:27Because that's the next level now.
- 4:29Hmm. Thank you for putting that out there. It's very important. They've been, well,
- 4:34politically correct or political for many years, possibly decades. But in recent
- 4:40years, it's very hostile toward Christianity. And when anti-Semitism comes
- 4:45and we need to call it out, thank you for that. Friends, you can find that at
- 4:48shalominmasaya.com. Shalominmasaya.com. So what the reason I wanted to have
- 4:56you on today is we know there's a need for refreshing people's memory on true
- 5:03biblical history and Jewish history, of course. And I wanted to have you talk about
- 5:10the Feast of Pyram and you have some fascinating connections. If we look at
- 5:15Esther and Heyman, and I really like what you laid out and explained to me, and it
- 5:22would just love for you to just share with our audience. First of all, we have
- 5:26some new believers and new Christians, of course. So what is Pyram? Let's start
- 5:31right there, Olivier. Okay. So the Feast of the Lords, they're all found in
- 5:37Leviticus 23. There's the Shabbat and there's the other seven Levitical Feasts
- 5:45they're given on the Jewish calendar. And those are set in Leviticus, in the Torah, in the law
- 5:53Moses. And then you've got a couple more Hanukkah, which is a response to a festival that we got
- 6:01after the the Jewish revolts against the against the Antiochus epiphanus, you know, before that.
- 6:09And then one more Purim. So Hanukkah and Purim are not non-levitical feasts, but very important
- 6:15why? Because they're mentioned in the Bible. And if it's mentioned in the Bible, there's got to be
- 6:20a reason why it's there. So the Purim is based on the events of the book of Esther. It's also mentioned
- 6:27in the apocryphine, second macabees, which is not inspired, but it gives us historical background.
- 6:33The challenge with with the book of Esther is that it was not accepted in the canon very
- 6:39very early on like the rest of the books. It was not there was no copy of Esther in the Dead Sea
- 6:44scrolls that have been recovered. So the authenticity was debated. And just for a little side note,
- 6:50the book of Esther does not mention, you know, people here, oh yeah, the the name of God is not
- 6:54mentioned. But in the book of Esther, there's no mention of the name of God, the temple, the love
- 6:59of Moses or the Torah, the sacrificial system, Jerusalem, and prayer. All those big, big biblical
- 7:07topics are not mentioned in the book of Esther. That's interesting. And so it's a very interesting
- 7:16book. And that book basically when you read the story in the book of Esther, which is actually
- 7:21what we do in synagogue at Purim, it reads like a play. It really reads like, you've got the
- 7:26characters, you've got Queen Esther, you've got Mordeky or Uncle and Heyman, the bad guy and King
- 7:31Hatsueris. And it's like a play when the people interact and there's good and evil. And it's just
- 7:41you can divide every chapter and we redo this in a synagogue. We read the book every year at Purim,
- 7:48people take turns reading it, or the kids will put a play together based on the story of the book
- 7:54of Esther. And when you think about it, David, the book of Esther is a very powerful illustration
- 8:01of the principle found in Genesis, the early on principle of, that's what Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum
- 8:08calls Israel, God's foreign policy when it comes to Israel, Genesis 12, 3, I'll bless those
- 8:14who bless you and the one who curses you, I will curse. So that's a God's foreign policy when
- 8:21it comes to Israel. And I think the book of Esther, the story of the book of Esther is a perfect
- 8:26example of the blessing and a cursing because at the end of Esther, Heyman, who built the gallows
- 8:32to kill Mordeky and the Jewish people, ends up him and his ten sons end up hanging on the gallows,
- 8:39the very curse that Heyman wanted to inflict upon the Jewish people ended up being inflicted
- 8:45upon him and his family. So that's a curse for a curse. And it's a perfect example of the
- 8:52an illustration of Genesis 12, 3. It is a very interesting book and I'm glad you pointed out
- 8:58macabees and mentioned that those, it's not inspired. What is what does Olivia mean by that? It's not
- 9:04in the canon of true biblical scripture, although you can look at it for accurate history.
- 9:10There's a lot of extra biblical history, meaning books outside of the Bible that you can find
- 9:15that are very accurate and tell the story of what was happening at that time. You know about
- 9:19Jesus, Stephen, prophecies and things like that. So I'm glad you mentioned that. So what you
- 9:25explained to me before we got on the podcast to me is the most fascinating thing. And you got that
- 9:30from Esther 3. Before we go there, is there anything you wanted to set up?
- 9:36No, I wanted to say, you know, going back to macabees, the way to look at macabees, the,
- 9:41you know, first, second, third macabees, we get the story of Hanukkah in there, we get a lot of
- 9:45different historical facts that are accurate. You look at macabees the way you look at the work
- 9:53of Josephus. It's great historical value, not inspired, not the final authority from God's
- 9:59perspective, but it's got historical value. So don't discard it, but don't put it on a pedestal.
- 10:05That's all. Yes. Perfect balance. Don't discard it, but don't put it on a pedestal. Yeah.
- 10:10Good. Good. Right. So the, you know, years ago, I was looking at the book of the story of
- 10:17Purim, you know, the hatred of the Jews. Now, keep in mind that, Heyman, let's start with that.
- 10:23Heyman is called Heyman, the, you know, I have it in one of my, in my notes here, I want to,
- 10:30I want to make sure I say it in Heyman's in the Esther 3.1. After these events, King Asurus promoted
- 10:35Heyman, the son of Amadatta, the Aga guide. Heyman, the Aga guide, it connects Heyman to the
- 10:42Amalekites, Israel's arch enemies. Aga was the king of the Amalekites. You read about him in
- 10:491 Samuel 15, 7 through 8, when Saul went, went against the Amalekites, killed Aga. So there's a,
- 10:58a long, deep-seated hatred of the Jews between the Amalekites and between the Amalekites and the Jews,
- 11:04and Heyman is connected to that lineage. So that, that kind of puts them in a place where,
- 11:10you know, at the start of the day, at the start of the story, Heyman hates the Jews. And,
- 11:15but what I found fascinating when I looked at Heyman's methodology, I'm looking at how he
- 11:23went against the Jews and I realized that he just, he didn't shoot from the hip. There was a method.
- 11:30And, and if I may, I want to, I want to point to a few passages because you're going to find that
- 11:36Heyman's legacy of hatred actually paved the way for another attempted genocide. And let me,
- 11:43let me explain that. The first thing we see is an Esther 3.5 when Heyman saw that Mordekai
- 11:50neither bad down nor paid homage to him. Heyman was filled with rage. So what you see here is
- 11:55one man's jealousy leading to uncontrolled hatred. Just one man's jealousy. He was jealous,
- 12:01and he was really jealous against one man Mordekai. He hated the fact that Mordekai did not respect
- 12:07him. So that just, he got unhinged and that was, he did not take it very well. Then in 36,
- 12:15from, from being upset at Mordekai, we see that in, in Esther 3.6, but he disdained to lay hands
- 12:23on Mordekai alone. For they had told him who the people of Mordekai were. Therefore, Heyman sought to
- 12:28destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordekai who were throughout the whole kingdom of Hasweris.
- 12:35So now you have one man is, is, is not, not paying homage to, to Heyman. So now he's going to go
- 12:42after all the Jews. Targeted hatred becomes global hatred against one man, not as global. It's against
- 12:49all the Jews. And in, in 313, it says that he was going to, you wanted to destroy, to kill,
- 12:56and annihilate all the Jews, both young and old women and children. Keep that in the back of your
- 13:03mind as I'm, I'm painting a picture here of this, you know, against one man, not targeted against,
- 13:09it's becoming a global. But also, what I found out is that the hatred was caused by non-conformity.
- 13:16They're different. They don't look like us. They don't dress like us. They don't speak like us.
- 13:21They don't eat like us. They're, they don't fit. Esther 3.8, then Heyman said to King Asweris,
- 13:27there's a certain people scattered and dispersed among the peoples and all the provinces of
- 13:30your kingdom. Their laws are different from those of all other people. And they do not observe
- 13:36the King's laws. So it is not in the King's interest to let them remain. So Heyman is talking to
- 13:42the King going, Hey, help me here. Those guys, they don't fit. Let's get rid of them. And he's trying
- 13:46to show the King why it's not in his interest to let the Jews live. So the hatred is caused
- 13:53by non-conformity. They're different. They don't fit. They need to be destroyed. Keep that in the back
- 14:00of your mind. So we already need to take a brief pause here, Olivier. But what's interesting,
- 14:05also about the story is, Heyman convinced the King that all Jews are rebellious and need to be
- 14:11destroyed. Right? You can see that today, it's propaganda. It's really interesting that there
- 14:19are nothing new under the sun. Right? We're going to come back and talk more about this with
- 14:23Olivier Melnik and the website against Shalom in Messiah.com. We'll break back.
- 14:53Get free activation now with promo code, David.
- 15:03So friends, thanks again. Because of you and obviously under God, praise you, Lord,
- 15:09we are able and blessed to have such great guests all year long for podcasts a week. And so
- 15:16thank you again. The numbers are surging. Not that I'm all into numbers, but I'm told it's doing
- 15:23very well and growing. The audience is growing on rumble, Facebook, YouTube, Freedom Project,
- 15:28Media app, Spotify, Apple podcast. So it's doing very well. So keep it going, friends. Thanks
- 15:33for your prayers. So Olivier Melnik. So Heyman, let's just get to your next point. Yeah.
- 15:40And I'll I'll I'll just let you take it because we're running out of time quickly.
- 15:44Yes. So the next point is an Esther 3 9 3 11 for the sake of time. I'm not going to read the
- 15:49passage. People can read on their own. But that we see the attempt at destruction being very
- 15:55structured and very organized. You know, Heyman says, if it is pleasing to the king, let it be
- 16:00decreed that they be destroyed. And then there's there are letters with this. They're the king's
- 16:06sitting it, signet ring sent all over the province by couriers to all the king provinces to destroy
- 16:13kill and alienate all the Jews, both young and old and women and children in one day, the 13th
- 16:19day of the 12th month, which is the month of Adar and to seize their possession as plunder. That's
- 16:24also something that we need to to to to keep in in the back of our mind. And one more thing before
- 16:33I make a parallel here, look what Heyman is saying in Esther 3 9 if it is pleasing to the king,
- 16:38let it be decreed that they be destroyed. And I will pay 10,000 talents of silver. So Heyman
- 16:45is going like, I'll use my own fortune. I use my own money to facilitate the destruction of the Jews.
- 16:52So now if you summarize, you've got one men's jealousy led to uncontrolled hatred, targeted hatred
- 16:58becoming global hatred. Hatred caused by non conformity attempt at destruction structured and organized
- 17:04and funding coming from the perpetrator. And you look at all this and you go, I see no difference
- 17:10between what Heyman did and his methodology and what Hitler did in the 30s and 40s. Yes. And I
- 17:18I think that's a very accurate but fascinating connection that you just made here again, friends.
- 17:24Go back and read Esther chapter three and go really slow when you get through some of these
- 17:30verses because the parallel is spot on. So go ahead Olivier. Yeah, no. And another little
- 17:39interesting anecdotal thing is that in 1946, there's a man by the name of Julius Stryker,
- 17:49he was the publisher of the very anti-Semitic magazine called The Stormer. And he was found guilty
- 17:56of war crimes. He was one of Hitler's top officials and he published this magazine and spread it
- 18:05all over Europe for a long time during the war. And so he was guilty of war crimes, crimes against
- 18:11humanity. And in 1946, awaiting his hanging on the gallows seconds before his execution yelled
- 18:20Purim fest 1946 comparing himself to what happened to Heyman, which I think is very interesting.
- 18:28You were saying like, yeah, they're killing me. I tried to do it. And now they're doing to me
- 18:32what they did to Heyman. So it's in his historical history books. And so Purim, you know, so you
- 18:41look at Purim, you know, the Purim, the original Purim in the book of Esther, you fast forward to
- 18:49the 1930s and 40s in the Holocaust. And you see there's nothing new under the sun. And David,
- 18:54you fast forward to today. And you see, you see the rest of the world telling, you know, online
- 19:02in the news on US campuses in books and in conferences, wherever you can find communication
- 19:10that the Jews don't fit. They're different. They're the problem. They're never going to fit in.
- 19:16We need to destroy them. They're, they're trying to control everything. Nothing new under the sun.
- 19:21And apparently people don't learn from history because they're believing that we are the problem.
- 19:28Again, yeah. And that is one of the most disturbing things that we just, well, I think we don't learn
- 19:34from history. But also there's an ignorance of true world history, especially in America when
- 19:40they have rewritten the public school textbooks and people don't know the Bible, right? So they don't
- 19:44know world history. But so it's interesting that, that as you mentioned earlier, his, his hatred
- 19:53and manifested in this plot. And he was willing to put his own money into it. But him as,
- 19:59and his family were executed. And then take us through the rest of, uh, go to Esther chapter nine
- 20:05unless you had another point to make before. No, I just, we know we have, we don't have a whole lot
- 20:10of time left. And I wanted to kind of, you know, I wanted to finish maybe a little bit on a more
- 20:18positive note that the feast of poem really, even though God is not mentioned by name, it really
- 20:25is a testimony to God's faithfulness and God's love for Israel. And again, you know, it's
- 20:32an illustration of Genesis 12, three, blessing the Jews. If you bless them, blessing those who
- 20:38bless the Jews and cursing him who curses the Jews. But in what I think of when I look at, uh,
- 20:45at Purim, you know, for Christians today, you know, you might be thinking, oh, what's in it for me?
- 20:51Well, you know, why should I care about Purim? Well, it's a testimony of God's sovereignty. And I'm
- 20:56just going to give you, we don't have time to read them. And I'm just going to give you a scripture
- 20:59to go to just as a reference. God's sovereignty in Psalm 135, five through seven, God's faithfulness,
- 21:07some 86, 15, God's protection due to run me 31, six. And there, we have a responsibility.
- 21:15Christians today, that would be my challenge. You as a Christian, you have a responsibility,
- 21:21just like Esther said, you know, who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time
- 21:27as this? Well, Christians right now, anti-Semitism is exploding. It's everywhere. It's going to get
- 21:34worse in the end times. We are at that time. And Christians have a responsibility for such a time
- 21:41as this to speak up to stand up and to join together against the oldest hatred because that is
- 21:49opening doors in the Jewish community that is going to allow you to share why you love Israel,
- 21:57why you love the Jews, why you speak up against anti-Semitism. And that will give you opportunities
- 22:01for the gospel, if you've never had before. Thank you, Olivia. And Purim is the feast celebrates,
- 22:08celebrating the Jews' deliverance. I think that's very important for us to recognize world history.
- 22:13And God is sovereign over all this. He made all this happen and intervened here. And I just want to
- 22:20read if I, we've got a few minutes left in Esther chapter 9. It's really starting in verse 29,
- 22:28Queen Esther, daughter of Abigail with Mordecai the Jew wrote with full authority to confirm this
- 22:35second letter about Purim. He sent letters to all the Jews to the 127 provinces of the kingdom,
- 22:41namely, words of peace and truth to establish these days of Purim at their appointed times,
- 22:48just as Mordecai the Jew. And Queen Esther had established for them. And then it goes on. And that's
- 22:57just a great point in the book as well. How the Queen Esther came to power. And just any closing
- 23:04thoughts here? We've got about four minutes left to live here. You know, we should start with
- 23:09that saying that Purim is the plural of the word pure, which means lots, the feast of lots,
- 23:14the feast of Esther, the feast of lots. My closing thoughts, I'll tell you Hanukkah, they tried to,
- 23:20they tried to kill us and we got the holiday out of it. And we got special food, Purim,
- 23:26they tried to kill us. We got a holiday and we got special food that we eat. Every festival that
- 23:31we celebrate in Judaism, there's a special time with special food. So to summarize the Jewish
- 23:37calendar, we can do it this way. They tried to kill us. We won. Let's eat.
- 23:44So we still have a little bit of time left. That's funny, by the way. We still have a little bit
- 23:47of time left. So let's bring it up to today and what's happening. We've talked about this,
- 23:54not just what's happening in the Middle East, but the anti-Semitism, the irrational hatred of the
- 24:00Jews. But what we've seen in America, do you see any, I know there's always hope, Olivier, but
- 24:08so hope might not be the right word, but do you see any indication that under the Trump
- 24:13administration, anything can be not reversed, but at least changed when it comes to college campuses
- 24:21and the anti-Semitism we've seen at the university level. Let's just start right there because
- 24:26that translates into a lot of young people and a lot of twisted thinking.
- 24:33So under Trump, I think that yes, we will see a change because Trump means what he says and he says
- 24:42what he means. So if he says that schools will lose funding if they promote or if they're allowed
- 24:50things to happen that go against Israel in an anti-Semitic way, he's probably going to push that
- 24:56as far as he can and people are going to pay the price. But I don't think this will end anti-Semitism.
- 25:06It's only going to stop some people because the schools are probably going to work harder at
- 25:12stopping it, but it will continue. It's like it's like poking holes in a sinking ship, you know,
- 25:20you poke a hole and then you're trying to plug it, but somebody else on the other side pokes another
- 25:24hole so it's like, or a whack-a-mole, you know, you're like, you've got to go everywhere. So basically
- 25:31Trump will probably help, but anti-Semitism coming from Satan himself who wants to get rid of
- 25:37the Jews will continue to bring the irrational and make it sound and look rational and enlist,
- 25:44more and more people that you would not expect. And my big fear right now is I've been doing some
- 25:48research on that and writing on it is this push by the conservative right and they've always been
- 25:58friends of Israel. And now you've got a lot of conservatives who are turning their back against
- 26:04Israel and pushing anti-Semitic agendas. I expect it from the left, but the right was more friendly
- 26:14and now there's a shift when the right is also pushing some very anti-Semitic agendas and that's
- 26:19very scary. Now it's to be expected in the end times, but so the long story short, yes, Trump,
- 26:26I think, will help. He will probably punish those who are not friendly to Israel or anti-Semitic,
- 26:32I should say, but that's not going to stop anti-Semitism. And a lot of it comes from us to speak up
- 26:38people at the neighborhood level, at the city level. You can't be silent. You cannot be, you know,
- 26:45silence equates complicity. Yes, and I think that's a good place to end something to take to heart
- 26:52being silent about things that matter. It's what I end every show with. But brother, thank you. You
- 26:57made me want to open up my Bible tomorrow morning and jump into Esther and study that book again.
- 27:03So thank you so much and happy Feast of Pyram. God bless you brother and we'll see you soon,
- 27:11hopefully. Be blessed. Thank you. All right guys, Shalom in Messiah.com. God bless you and as always,
- 27:17keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
