- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. I want to talk to you about how
- 0:32affected I was in my life by a woman who happened to be the mom
- 0:38of a friend of mine so many years ago When I was little I my
- 0:43one of my friends that I went to I.
- 0:45I knew her my entire life. Her family lived on the next Rd.
- 0:48over around the corner. Her mom had a massive, massive
- 0:53impact on me and I, I actually didn't realize it until later in
- 0:58life, but her mom was the person that already had six kids on her
- 1:07own. She had six kids on her own with
- 1:10her husband. I believe it was a second
- 1:13marriage, but then they had kids.
- 1:15They each had a child and then they had kids of their own,
- 1:18which was wonderful. They had a very blended family.
- 1:21And this goes way back into the 70s.
- 1:24So you have to think about the fact I was little in the 70s.
- 1:26And so this was an extraordinary thing for people to do at that
- 1:31point in time. So they had this big family.
- 1:35And as the kids got older, she decided that she was going to
- 1:39foster more children. So she started taking in foster
- 1:43children. And those children were, you
- 1:46know, eventually she adopted, they adopted all these children.
- 1:50And for me, that was something that my family had tried to
- 1:55adopt, my parents had had, my mother had had multiple
- 1:59miscarriages and I was the only child.
- 2:02In fact, she had a pregnancy where I was a twin and she lost
- 2:07the other baby. So the fact that I was able to,
- 2:11you know, be here, I always think of it as like I, I really
- 2:14have a responsibility because this was quite the mission that
- 2:17I must have been on to be able to survive all of that.
- 2:21Well, in any event, they tried to adopt at one point in time
- 2:25and they, they did it once and it fell through and the little
- 2:28boy ended up going to a family member.
- 2:31And my mother was crushed by that and couldn't do it anymore.
- 2:34She said she just couldn't do it.
- 2:35And I I understand that being crushed having gone through the
- 2:39process of adoption with my own son, what it would have done to
- 2:44me. But I do understand perseverance
- 2:48as well and I don't give up as easily.
- 2:51So I I never understood like how that all connected in my head.
- 2:56But this woman in my life when I was very young did it multiple
- 3:00times. She saved 2 sets of twins and
- 3:04two other individual kids and they all were adopted by her,
- 3:10which was phenomenal and incredible.
- 3:13And she would talk about how, you know, a house filled with
- 3:18children and filled with, you know, laughter and love is such
- 3:21a big deal. And you would go there and she
- 3:23was always happy, always busy running around, you know, just
- 3:28like this amazing energy. But you don't realize the effect
- 3:33that that has on those around you.
- 3:36So I grew up running in and out of that house with all of those
- 3:39kids. I grew up seeing her doing all
- 3:42of that and experiencing that energy.
- 3:46And then Fast forward in my own life, you know, I end up
- 3:51adopting, taking, doing the same, taking that path, doing
- 3:55the same thing, not to the extent that she did, but I did
- 3:58it. And I, I had this epiphany the
- 4:02other day. I was thinking about her and how
- 4:05extraordinary that was. And then one of my clients sent
- 4:08me a note talking about his family and how his grandmother
- 4:14did things. And I thought, isn't it amazing
- 4:16because that's what he's doing now?
- 4:18And it clicked in my head like where I had one experience
- 4:22watching my mother take the path and then get scared and stop the
- 4:26path. I had this other mother who took
- 4:29the path, didn't get scared, kept going, kept going, kept
- 4:33going, impacted all those people.
- 4:35And then I hear from my other client that his grandmother took
- 4:38the path and it affected all these amazing people.
- 4:43And I just had this like, wow, if I, I don't know if I would
- 4:48have been brave enough to take the path if I hadn't had her mom
- 4:52to teach me that that was that was viable.
- 4:55That was something you could do. And it was such a small sliver
- 4:58and such a small threat of awareness.
- 5:01But I really want to highlight it because how do we know all
- 5:06these little things we do and all these little things we talk
- 5:09about that connect and and say something?
- 5:12Last night, my son was putting his motorcycle together and I
- 5:16was out here helping. I walked into to do something
- 5:18else in the garage and he said, hey, can you help me?
- 5:21And he was on his headset talking to his two other friends
- 5:23while he was doing it. And he he said, all of a sudden
- 5:27he and I was holding up the bike in the air so that he could put
- 5:30a pin through the back tire. And he said to me, my friends
- 5:35want you to know that they think you're the most awesome mom.
- 5:39And I said, oh, that's sweetie goes no, they're not joking.
- 5:41They think you're the most awesome mom.
- 5:43You're out here in your pajamas helping me put this together.
- 5:47And they have never seen that before.
- 5:49And it really made me think, look, I just dropped some seeds
- 5:52right there. I just dropped some seeds right
- 5:53there. So they know, hey, that's how
- 5:56people should show up for each other.
- 5:58So remember, all these little things, they matter.
- 6:00What you're doing matters. Even if you're not getting
- 6:02recognition in the moment somewhere, it matters.
- 6:06All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:09will see you tomorrow. Bye.
