Transcript
- 0:00Katie: In this episode, you will discover the overlooked reason another round of IVF will not get you pregnant until you address what your body needs first.
- 0:13Welcome to the Finally Get Pregnant Naturally podcast, the podcast helping women identify the real reasons you haven't conceived or stayed pregnant so you and your partner can finally grow the family of your dreams.
- 0:26I'm your host, Dr.
- 0:28Katie Wood.
- 0:29Let's dive in, shall we?
- 0:31Katie: Three things you'll gain from today's episode: why IVF can do everything it is designed to do and still not result in a baby, the part of your fertility equation IVF was never designed to address, and what your body
- 0:47Katie: needs addressed first so your body has the foundations for a healthy pregnancy.
- 0:54Katie: So I wanna start by talking about what IVF does and what it does not do.
- 1:02Katie: And I want to be very, very clear.
- 1:05Katie: I am not anti-IVF.
- 1:08Katie: IVF is remarkable technology, and for so many people it can be the right tool.
- 1:17Katie: if You have done IVF or you are considering it, nothing I say today is judgment of that choice.
- 1:25Katie: My nephew is from successful IVF.
- 1:29Katie: What I want to do is to help you understand what IVF can and cannot do so you can make an informed decision for yourself, because that distinction is the difference between doing one more round that works and one
- 1:46Katie: more round that breaks your heart and your bank account.
- 1:49Katie: Okay?
- 1:51Katie: If you are the kind of woman who finds this podcast, you are not someone who's doing things halfway, right?
- 1:58Katie: You're doing your research.
- 2:00Katie: Maybe you're even looking at some studies.
- 2:02Katie: You ask better questions than most people in the room.
- 2:07Katie: And somewhere underneath it all, you have a quiet feeling that there is more going on than anyone has looked at.
- 2:15Katie: You've felt that pull to dig deeper, but every time it has been just easier to schedule the next round because your doctor is willing to do it, because it feels like forward motion Because saying yes to another cycle
- 2:35Katie: feels safer than stopping to ask the harder questions.
- 2:41Katie: And sometimes it might feel like the only option that you have to do another round.
- 2:47Katie: And I want to talk to that quiet feeling today because here's what IVF does.
- 2:54Katie: It takes over the mechanics of conception.
- 2:58Katie: It stimulates your ovaries to produce multiple eggs, retrieves them, attempts to fertilize them in a lab, and transfers an embryo back.
- 3:10Katie: It bypasses the fallopian tubes.
- 3:12Katie: It bypasses the timing required for natural conception.
- 3:17Katie: It gives you control over the parts of the process that happen outside of your body.
- 3:24Katie: But here is what IVF cannot do, and this is the part that gets misunderstood, swept under the rug, and not discussed.
- 3:35Katie: IVF does not improve your egg quality.
- 3:38Katie: It Retrieves the eggs you already have, the eggs that you have going into IVF.
- 3:43Katie: The quality of those eggs If those eggs are not high quality, fertilization may not happen at all.
- 3:52Katie: The embryos may not develop.
- 3:54Katie: They may not make it to transfer.
- 3:57Katie: IVF cannot make a better egg than the one your body has produced, and egg quality is built at least within the 90 days before retrieval through the same internal terrain that we talk about every week on this show.
- 4:16Katie: And IVF does not change the environment that embryo is being transferred back into.
- 4:22Katie: It does not fix the inflammation, the gut dysbiosis, the hormonal imbalance, the nutrient depletion, the microbiome disruption that may be the actual reason conception or implantation has not been holding for you.
- 4:38Katie: IVF simply manages the mechanics.
- 4:42Katie: It does not build the egg.
- 4:43Katie: It does not prepare the soil.
- 4:46Katie: And implantation is only the first hurdle.
- 4:50Katie: Even if that embryo implants, the same depleted environment is what the pregnancy is then expected to sustain in.
- 4:59Katie: And, even the most perfect process cannot overcome poor egg quality or a depleted environment.
- 5:08Katie: This is why pushing through one more round without changing the terrain so often gives you the same result, the same outcome.
- 5:22Katie: So let's talk about this overlooked reason that I'm talking about.
- 5:27Katie: This is the piece almost nobody names or speaks about.
- 5:31Katie: When an IVF cycle fails, when a beautiful chromosomally normal embryo is transferred and it does not implant or implants but then there's a loss, the assumption is usually that it was bad luck or a numbers game, and the
- 5:48Katie: recommendation is to try again, another transfer, another round, another roll of the dice.
- 5:56Katie: But a chromosomally normal embryo that does not implant or doesn't hold is telling you something because implantation and sustaining a pregnancy are two different biological hurdles, and the same unaddressed terrain can be the reason for either one.
- 6:14Katie: So often when this happens, the woman is being blamed for her, quote-unquote, "old eggs," her poor egg quality.
- 6:28Katie: But you know what is not being addressed by your doctor?
- 6:32Katie: The steps that you can actually take to improve your egg quality, and they do exist even if you're in your 40s.
- 6:42Katie: Okay?
- 6:43Katie: There's also low progesterone that cannot hold a lining.
- 6:46Katie: Yes, we can supplement with progesterone, but still, if that is something that your body is struggling with And often low progesterone is a result of poor egg quality.
- 6:59Katie: You have to improve the egg quality to improve your progesterone.
- 7:03Katie: Inflammation that disrupts early development, an immune environment that was never calmed Right?
- 7:09Katie: The immune environment is in chaos.
- 7:13Katie: A gut and microbiome still driving the imbalance underneath it all.
- 7:17Katie: The environment is almost never fully investigated, if ever, before the next round is scheduled.
- 7:24Katie: Maybe they tweak your protocol of medications that they use, but that's about it.
- 7:32Katie: The clinic got you the embryo, but it did not properly prepare your body to receive it or carry it.
- 7:42Katie: The thing the clinic cannot control, your internal terrain, is the thing that often decides the outcome, but they're not talking about it, right?
- 7:52Katie: It's the thing that nobody stops to look at in a fertility clinic.
- 7:57Katie: And I know this for sure.
- 8:00Katie: I was recently on a call with a woman who has worked in the IVF industry for, I think she was saying about 15 years.
- 8:09Katie: And she said they're gonna use the same protocol for a woman who's in her early 30s with endometriosis that they're gonna use for a woman in her late 30s or early 40s.
- 8:21Katie: They do not adjust the protocol to meet your needs.
- 8:27Katie: And here's the part I want to say to you directly because I think you have felt it too.
- 8:32Katie: The fact that your doctor is willing to do another round does not mean another round is what your body needs.
- 8:40Katie: A clinic saying yes is not the same as your body actually being ready.
- 8:45Katie: You can get approved for the next cycle and still be walking into it with every root cause from the last one completely unaddressed, unchecked Permission to keep going is not the same as a plan built around your body's
- 9:05Katie: needs that will actually work And this is what's so frustrating for me is, like, I see this happening.
- 9:13Katie: I see so many women coming to me, asking me in questions and saying they know that they need to do deeper work.
- 9:21Katie: But then when the doctor gives the green light for another round, that's what they decide to do instead before doing the work.
- 9:30Katie: Because another round without addressing the terrain is not actually a new attempt.
- 9:35Katie: It's the same attempt in the same environment, hoping the odds break differently this time.
- 9:41Katie: And I need you to hear this with love because you have already given so much of yourself to this journey.
- 9:49Katie: Doing the same thing again and hoping this time is different is not a strategy.
- 9:55Katie: It's how another year disappears.
- 9:59Katie: Another retrieval, another several thousand dollars, another round of letting yourself hope just to watch it crash.
- 10:10Katie: You do not need one more round.
- 10:13Katie: You Need one real investigation first built around your body and your body's needs.
- 10:21Katie: You know that quiet feeling, that internal pull that you've been feeling that has been asking you to do this all along So whether your next step is natural conception or another IVF cycle or even IUI cycle, the foundation
- 10:39Katie: is the same.
- 10:40Katie: Before you spend another dollar on another round, your internal environment deserves to be actually investigated.
- 10:48Katie: That means looking at the areas a fertility clinic does not assess.
- 10:53Katie: Your gut, because it governs how you metabolize estrogen, absorb nutrients, and regulate the inflammation that sits directly upstream of where implantation has to happen.
- 11:05Katie: Your full hormone picture across your entire cycle, not a single snapshot, so you can see how your body's actually producing, converting, and clearing what it makes.
- 11:17Katie: Your vaginal microbiome, because the environment an embryo implants into is as important as the embryo quality itself.
- 11:26Katie: What you're eating and what your cells are actually depleted of, because egg quality and a receptive lining are both built from nutrients.
- 11:35Katie: And your partner's full picture too, because male factor contributes to loss far, far more than couples are told.
- 11:43Katie: This is exactly the investigation I built Decode Your Fertility to give you.
- 11:50Katie: The same root cause testing I run with my private clients, now in a program that you can do yourself, so you can finally see all of this instead of guessing at it.
- 12:01Katie: I will tell you more about that in a moment, but first, I want you to hear what becomes possible.
- 12:08Katie: When you address your terrain first, everything you do next works better.
- 12:15Katie: It improves your outcomes.
- 12:17Katie: Your egg quality has ninety days to improve.
- 12:21Katie: Three months.
- 12:22Katie: Give yourself three months, right?
- 12:26Katie: Is your baby worth taking a pause for three months?
- 12:32Katie: A natural cycle has a real chance when you do this.
- 12:37Katie: I've seen it all the time in my clients.
- 12:39Katie: They were told natural conception was not an option for them.
- 12:43Katie: Yeah, well, three to four months later, I can tell you otherwise.
- 12:49Katie: And if you do choose IVF again, then you're transferring that beautiful embryo into a body that has actually been prepared, not just to receive it, but to hold it.
- 13:01Katie: Because getting pregnant and staying pregnant are different things, and the terrain work is what supports both.
- 13:09Katie: This is not giving up on IVF or your baby.
- 13:13Katie: This is giving IVF the foundation it needs to finally work So if that quiet feeling that there's more to look at has been sitting with you for a while, this is your sign to finally listen to it Decode
- 13:30Katie: Your Fertility is the full investigation of your terrain with personalized answers and a clear action plan.
- 13:36Katie: No referral needed, no doctor's office visit needed.
- 13:43Katie: The link is in the show notes.
- 13:45Katie: You already know you want to dig deeper, and this is where you do it.
- 13:52Katie: So let's recap.
- 13:54Katie: IVF manages the mechanics of conception, but it cannot improve the quality of the eggs you already have, and it cannot change the environment that embryo has to implant into and then be sustained in.
- 14:08Katie: Egg quality is built in the 90 days before retrieval through your terrain, your internal terrain, your entire body.
- 14:16Katie: And getting pregnant and staying pregnant are two different hurdles that the same unaddressed terrain can block.
- 14:23Katie: Your doctor being willing to do another round does not mean another round is what your body needs or that another round is actually the right choice for you.
- 14:33Katie: Before you spend another dollar on one more round, another second of your time, of your energy, give your body the investigation it has never had.
- 14:45Katie: Address your terrain first and everything you do next, natural or assisted, will have the foundation to actually work.
- 14:56Katie: I wanna thank you so much for listening to this episode.
