Transcript
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Whole Hearted Woman Podcast, a Christ-centered space where faith meets emotional healing and the quiet work of heart restoration.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: I'm Kristen Ray, and I'm really grateful you're here today.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Around here, we talk honestly about the places in life where our hearts have been shaped, sometimes by wounds, sometimes by pain, and how God gently restores us back into wholeness.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: This podcast is for the woman who loves God deeply but senses there is more.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: More healing, more freedom, and more joy available in Him.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: If you've ever felt like you were carrying wounds you didn't know how to name or patterns you didn't know how to change, you're not alone and you're in the right place.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: God cares deeply about the condition of our hearts.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Let's dig in.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Have you ever known exactly what to do and still struggled to do it?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've listened to the last episode about boundaries and thought, wow, that makes so much sense.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: But then you found yourself back in the same situation, struggling to set boundaries.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: You said yes when your heart said no, or maybe you did set a boundary, but afterward you felt guilt, second-guessed yourself, or wanted to take it all back.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Or maybe you're in a situation right now where it's clear a boundary needs to be set, but it feels almost impossible.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Because this isn't just a simple situation.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: It's a relationship that feels complicated, emotional, and very difficult.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: And you find yourself saying, if I set the boundary, I'm going to hurt them or lose the relationship.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: But if I don't, something in me continues to feel overwhelmed or even harmed.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And for some of you, it goes even deeper than that.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've actually tried to set a boundary and it wasn't received well.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: It was ignored, misunderstood, or even met with more frustration or anger.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And now you're left wondering, do I keep trying or do I just learn to live with it?
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: How do I love someone and still protect my heart?
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Especially when it's someone close to you, someone you care about deeply, someone who may be struggling themselves.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: But the way it comes out still hurts you.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And just because someone is hurting doesn't mean you are meant to carry the weight of how that hurt is expressed toward you.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And it can leave you feeling stuck, like no matter what you choose, it's going to hurt.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: And then on top of that, you're trying to follow God.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: You want to be loving, you want to do the right thing, but you feel stuck.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: If you've ever felt that tension, you're definitely not alone.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And today we're going to talk about why that happens.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Because this is where many women begin to ask, why do I still struggle?
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Why do boundaries feel so hard, even when I know I need them?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: One of the most important things to understand is this.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Knowing the truth is not the same as living the truth.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: We can hear the truth, we can agree with the truth, and even believe truth, but still struggle to live it out.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Because transformation doesn't happen in the mind, it happens in the heart.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've experienced this.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: You know God loves you, but you still feel insecure.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: You know you're allowed to say no, but you still feel responsible for everyone else.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: You know you're safe, but your heart still feels anxious.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: That doesn't mean you're failing, it means something deeper is happening.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Your heart didn't form overnight.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: It was shaped over time through experiences, relationships, wounds, and moments that left an imprint.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And those experiences form beliefs, beliefs like I need to keep people happy, or I'm responsible for how others feel, or if I say no, I'll be rejected.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Those beliefs didn't start in your head, they were formed in your heart, and they've been shaping your responses ever since.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: And this is why boundaries feel so difficult because boundaries don't just require a decision, they confront a belief.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: When you're trying to set a boundary, it's not just about saying no, it's about what your heart believes will happen if you do.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Will I disappoint them?
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Will they pull away?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Will I feel guilty?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Will I be seen as selfish?
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Will they still love me?
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: So even when your mind knows what to do, your heart resists it.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: This is why boundaries are not just behavioral, they are deeply connected to what has been formed within us.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: And part of why this feels so difficult is because this isn't just about you.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Many of us were never taught how to have healthy boundaries.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: We were taught to be kind, to be helpful, to be available, but we were never taught how to discern what is ours to carry and what is not.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Some of us grew up in environments where saying no wasn't safe at all, or where love felt connected to how much we gave, how much we tolerated, or how much we held it together for others.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: And over time, that forms a pattern.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So when we begin trying to set boundaries, it doesn't just feel unfamiliar, it can feel wrong.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Not because it is wrong, it's because it goes against what we've been conditioned to believe.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: And I want us to really get that because that is the crux of the tension we feel inside ourselves when we want to change and we know we should change.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And when we look at scripture, we actually see where this struggle begins.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: In Genesis 3, when sin entered the world, something shifted in the human heart.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Shame entered, fear entered, and responsibility became distorted.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Instead of living in freedom and trust with God, we began striving.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: We began hiding and carrying things we were never meant to carry.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: And from that point on, the human heart has wrestled with this tension.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Trying to hold everything together, trying to keep peace, trying to avoid rejection, even at the cost of our own well-being.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: And this is why boundaries can feel so difficult, because in many ways we are unlearning patterns that have existed since the very beginning.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've asked yourself, why do I keep going back to the same patterns?
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Why does it still feel so hard?
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Why do I feel this way even when I know the truth?
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: If that's you, you're not broken.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: You're being invited deeper.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Real transformation doesn't happen instantly because God doesn't change behavior, he restores the heart.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: And the heart heals in layers.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: He gently reveals what's been hidden.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: He brings truth into places shaped by pain.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: He rebuilds what was formed over time.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: God is not rushing you.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: He's not mad at you.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: He is walking with you.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: This is where everything begins to shift.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Not with pressure, not with trying harder, not with striving more, but with awareness.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Seeing what's actually happening beneath the surface and recognizing the belief, recognizing the pattern, recognizing our responses and inviting God in it.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: And this is exactly why I created the five-day heart healing starter guide.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Because healing isn't just about knowing the truth, it's about allowing God to meet you in the places that shaped those patterns.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Inside that guide, I'll walk you through the first steps of recognizing what's been forming your heart and how God begins to restore it.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: If this episode is resonating with you, that's your next step.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Transformation happens when truth reaches the heart, not just the mind.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: So if you've been feeling stuck, if you've been wondering why this feels so hard, if you've been questioning why you're not further along by now, hear this.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: You're not failing.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: You are being formed.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: God is not just teaching you what to do, he is transforming the place that decides what you do.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: And as he restores your heart, what once felt impossible will begin to feel different.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: And if you've wondered how to actually begin setting boundaries in situations as these, we're going to talk about that in the next episode.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: So for now, we'll close with a prayer.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Father, thank you for being so patient with us in this process.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Thank you that you don't just give us truth, you walk with us as you transform our hearts.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Help us to see what you are revealing.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Help us to trust what you are showing us.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Give us grace in the places that feel so hard and remind us that we're not stuck.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: We are being formed.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Amen.
