- 1:20Speaker 1: Okay, like we always start out with the offshore fishing, the guy's had it.
- 1:24Speaker 1: It was rough yesterday, sunday.
- 1:27Speaker 1: They had to pick the way across the bars A lot of rain on the southern end a little bit kind of gloomy, but they came up with a few fish.
- 1:34Speaker 1: A down in Hatteras charter boat Sunday they found some blackfin tuna and they worked for those and some false albacore.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Did not hear of anything in the area down that way about any bluefin tuna, as I did hear.
- 1:46Speaker 1: David Daniels and others found some bluefin tuna's up off Oregon Island after picking the way across the bar and slowly working the way out to the Gulf Stream.
- 1:56Speaker 1: They were 100 inch bluefin tunas.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Now I was told the other day that a 73 inch bluefin tuna is a 200 pounder.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So I'm guessing a 100 inch bluefin tuna is probably a 400 pounder.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And they did have a few yellowfin in the catches as well.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But it's not red hot tuna fishing right now.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Those guys had to work for it and they had to bounce around a lot to catch this fish.
- 2:18Speaker 1: There is some very good bottom fishing going on for sea bass.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Most of that's much closer to shore.
- 2:23Speaker 1: That's one of the finest eating fish that swim in the ocean a black sea bass and some of those knot heads are going upwards of four pounds when they're catching those.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So that pretty much is it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Offshore Surfishin not much going on.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Water temperatures on the south beaches are 64 degrees, on the north beaches 47 degrees, and mostly just junk skates and sharks and really very few reports from anything there.
- 2:49Speaker 1: The best of our fishing is in shore, where we have a great speckled trout bite and they're getting bigger.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Keep in mind that most of these speckled trout are in the ditches and slews and one of the reasons I bring that up because I had a friend that was fishing.
- 3:03Speaker 1: They caught some speckled trout and some largemouth bass on the same lure in the same creek.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So some of that stuff is kind of blending together the saltwater species with the freshwater species.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You also in that freshwater area further up into those estuaries, some bass, some crappies, some yellow perch, a few white perch and some brim.
- 3:24Speaker 1: So you got all that going on and back out in the sound there is a good amount of puppy drum.
- 3:29Speaker 1: They seem to be a little bit further down the sound, like back in Hatteras and Okra Coke, but they're there as well.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So as you can see, we had quite a bit going on.
- 3:37Speaker 1: For the weekend this week the table is set and every week from here on out it's going to do nothing but get better and better.
- 3:43Speaker 1: For that reason it's a very good time to book your boat.
- 3:47Speaker 1: If you're looking for a Saturday or a prime day during the tuna season.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You need to get your group together and make a book.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And remember, when you gather up a deposit to book a boat, make sure that everybody that's going on that trip has put in on that deposit.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I've seen people before that say, oh, I got to out cover the deposit and then the rest of the group backs out for a million reasons why, especially if the weather is a little questionable and the person that put up the deposit is subject to lose all of it.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So if you're going to book a boat, make sure you get everybody in on the deal together on the deposit.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Very, very important.
- 4:19Speaker 1: That's my fish report for you.
