- 0:00Speaker 1: Hm, former as tease is here. How you doing, I'm good.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I heard you watch a little left tea here and there.
- 0:11Speaker 1: You catch some some f T every once in a while,
- 0:13Speaker 1: so yeah, territory.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean every anytime that I see it on,
- 0:17Speaker 3: I stopped and and check it out. And uh, I think,
- 0:21Speaker 3: like we were talking about yesterday, just I just love
- 0:24Speaker 3: the honesty, the stories, you know, just the perspective that
- 0:29Speaker 3: you guys have, like, which is which is nice because
- 0:32Speaker 3: a lot of the same perspective I have. But I'm
- 0:35Speaker 3: someone that's not necessarily gonna voice.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Out as much.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So you got your ten minutes.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll take it up here, but yeah, it doesn't
- 0:43Speaker 3: come out much.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yeah, well a j go ahead. I don't want to
- 0:48Speaker 1: also introduce him as it.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Well, well you already talked about that from the story
- 0:53Speaker 4: last night. He was the best picture. He was the
- 0:55Speaker 4: first guy face and I was like, oh, that's a
- 0:56Speaker 4: different because he kind of short armed the ball, right
- 0:59Speaker 4: and he just you four seemed cutters and you were
- 1:02Speaker 4: the first guy over face that really had like that
- 1:04Speaker 4: cutter action because most guys.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Were sinker Sinker two seem to seemed down in a way.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Yeah, then I go to face you and Fresno, and
- 1:11Speaker 4: I'm like, whoa, I'm gonna have to reevaluate my life
- 1:14Speaker 4: after that.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I mean in college, I found out I have a
- 1:17Speaker 3: heavy ball, you know what they call a heavy ball,
- 1:19Speaker 3: and then I've discovered that, you know, it was cutting
- 1:25Speaker 3: more than I realized, and so they just tell me
- 1:28Speaker 3: you got to just throw that. You gotta keep throwing that,
- 1:31Speaker 3: you know down up in all that stuff got to
- 1:34Speaker 3: the myer leagues went through there, and uh, once I
- 1:37Speaker 3: got to the big league saw how effective that is
- 1:40Speaker 3: even from major league hitters. So when I did come
- 1:43Speaker 3: down in ninety eight, because I wasn't pitching in the
- 1:46Speaker 3: big leagues, they sent me down to make starts, and
- 1:50Speaker 3: I mean I had all the confidence in the world
- 1:52Speaker 3: because I was able to get those guys out and
- 1:55Speaker 3: coming down, you know, I had the attitude of these
- 1:58Speaker 3: guys have no chance. And so I think that was
- 2:01Speaker 3: huge for me because it allowed me to do my thing.
- 2:06Speaker 3: And then once I got back up, I was able
- 2:09Speaker 3: to go right in without having to feel like, oh,
- 2:11Speaker 3: I need to prove myself again or anything.
- 2:14Speaker 1: M All right, let's get into the big league career. Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 1: A j where should we start.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Oh, go start San Frank. He came up in ninety nine.
- 2:22Speaker 4: I think he won nineteen. He came up full season,
- 2:27Speaker 4: Ye won eighteen games.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty good for your first full year
- 2:30Speaker 2: in the big league.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 4: And then obviously you pitch their pitcher. Pitcher in the
- 2:34Speaker 4: two thousand and two was the highlight or low light,
- 2:37Speaker 4: depending on how you want to look at it, right, both, Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 4: highlight if you guys get into the World Series. The
- 2:42Speaker 4: low light being you were gonna win it. Yeah, and
- 2:45Speaker 4: then Dusty takes you out. Do you start the ball?
- 2:47Speaker 1: I still have the ball?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah? Did you not want to throw it? Like in
- 2:50Speaker 2: the Ocean?
- 2:51Speaker 3: I framed it? Uh No, I framed it. I mean
- 2:53Speaker 3: I took it as something different. I mean Dusty called
- 2:56Speaker 3: me in his office said, hey man, he goes. I
- 2:58Speaker 3: just thought i'd give him on mental memento from the
- 3:02Speaker 3: World Series. Like I've been around this game. Some guys
- 3:05Speaker 3: don't never get there, and some guys get there and
- 3:07Speaker 3: never come back.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And I just want to make sure you had a remembrance.
- 3:11Speaker 3: But I have to believe that everybody thought like that
- 3:16Speaker 3: that ball was going to be something sitting on my mantle,
- 3:19Speaker 3: that was going to be like, yeah, that's the year
- 3:21Speaker 3: we won the World Series, and this is the ball
- 3:23Speaker 3: I got to pitch with, So it wasn't the game ball.
- 3:25Speaker 3: He's just like it was your ball that you pitched with.
- 3:28Speaker 3: So how many guys can actually say that that was
- 3:30Speaker 3: his thinking there? And like I said, I think we
- 3:33Speaker 3: all thought, you know, we were going to win. I
- 3:36Speaker 3: mean we were, we were a good team, so there
- 3:38Speaker 3: was no reason to not think that we weren't going
- 3:40Speaker 3: to win.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Do you believe I believe that?
- 3:45Speaker 5: Do you believe they were motivated because you got to
- 3:47Speaker 5: carry the ball off. I've heard so many people say, oh,
- 3:50Speaker 5: we saw it, No chance you saw it, but maybe
- 3:53Speaker 5: you maybe you see it differently.
- 3:56Speaker 3: They didn't see it, No, I asked Troy Glass, Darren
- 4:00Speaker 3: HER's dad, Benjaminlina, all those guys, they never saw They
- 4:04Speaker 3: heard about it. I think one of the players, the
- 4:08Speaker 3: the announcers were talking about it that they, you know,
- 4:12Speaker 3: just he handed me the ball and all that stuff.
- 4:15Speaker 2: The story goes.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Some guy ran down and told another coach and then uh,
- 4:22Speaker 3: I forget who was and he just said, did you
- 4:25Speaker 3: hear that?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Guys?
- 4:26Speaker 3: You know they gave him the game ball and stuff
- 4:28Speaker 3: like that, and so but the players actually told me,
- 4:31Speaker 3: which was actually pretty sweet, that they said, we were
- 4:35Speaker 3: pumped because you were out of the game, so that that.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Gave us confidence.
- 4:39Speaker 3: They said, we we thought we had no chance that game,
- 4:41Speaker 3: you know, which is a huge boost for for me
- 4:44Speaker 3: and my confidence, and you know, that was a really
- 4:46Speaker 3: great compliment. But yeah, no, they didn't see it. They
- 4:50Speaker 3: didn't see it, so that was that was made up.
- 4:53Speaker 3: And and they you know, they just got fired up
- 4:56Speaker 3: because they they had a lot of comebacks that year,
- 5:00Speaker 3: Volley Monk, he thundersticks, all that stuff, and you know,
- 5:04Speaker 3: so they had they had a little I felt that
- 5:06Speaker 3: they had a little sliver of a chance at that
- 5:09Speaker 3: point and then they, unfortunately for us, made it happen.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It's like Blake Snell a year later.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I've been getting calls every time I started
- 5:19Speaker 3: gets taken out in one of those deciding games and saying, hey,
- 5:22Speaker 3: can we get you get it talk to you and
- 5:25Speaker 3: ask you some questions. And that's that's always, you know,
- 5:28Speaker 3: the thing is, you know, bring it up. I mean
- 5:30Speaker 3: it until Dusty one with the Astros, I would say
- 5:36Speaker 3: that was probably twenty twenty twenty two year period and
- 5:41Speaker 3: I got calls and interviewed probably eighteen of those years.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Every world serious. Yeah, so those guys kind of stopped.
- 5:51Speaker 1: One year later a picture was left in a game
- 5:53Speaker 1: too long though, right, Pedro?
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah? Oh three, Right that was a year later.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Yeah that was pretty little little Yeah, let.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Them run ft fam. Welcome to the world's most comfortable

- 6:20Speaker 4: You know what the best part is about this guy?
- 6:22Speaker 4: What they have a lot of different options because these
- 6:24Speaker 4: are clearly yours, because I would never order this pattern.
- 6:26Speaker 1: But that is so may on you. That is so
- 6:28Speaker 1: many these are so you.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Mine are a little bit more plain than this, yes,
- 6:32Speaker 4: but they are super comfortable. The liner. I love liner shorts.
- 6:35Speaker 4: Some people don't, but these liners are better than most
- 6:38Speaker 4: that I've had on, if not all of them.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yeah, this is the best liner out there, no mash
- 6:42Speaker 1: all the above is perfect, exactly. It's really good. You
- 6:45Speaker 1: got to give it a shot. Also, fun random fact,
- 6:48Speaker 1: you get a new shirt. It smells really good. So
- 6:51Speaker 1: head to Fairharbor clothing dot Com slash foul and use
- 6:53Speaker 1: code foul for twenty percent off your first purchase. Once again,
- 6:56Speaker 1: Fair Harbor h A R b O R clothing dot
- 6:59Speaker 1: com backslash foul for twenty percent off your first purchase
- 7:02Speaker 1: and use that promo code foul so they know FT
- 7:04Speaker 1: sent you.
- 7:05Speaker 4: Got to play with Barry. I got to play with Berry.
- 7:06Speaker 4: You got to play with Barry for multiple years, six years. Yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 4: best Barry Bond story that you have?
- 7:13Speaker 3: Uh, well, what it was my first year. I was
- 7:18Speaker 3: in the bullpen. We were in Pittsburgh and the next
- 7:22Speaker 3: thing you know, one of the relievers comes out and
- 7:25Speaker 3: he said, Barry and Danny Darwin just got in a
- 7:28Speaker 3: fight in the in the at the bat rack and
- 7:32Speaker 3: I guess Danny was pitching and something happened and they
- 7:35Speaker 3: were just John. Danny was John Adam I think, and
- 7:38Speaker 3: and Barry just coming back and they full on fistfight,
- 7:42Speaker 3: like right in front of the batrack. So I was like,
- 7:46Speaker 3: that's pretty cool. And nobody got hurt. We got hurt,
- 7:49Speaker 3: but I was just like, that's big league style. I
- 7:51Speaker 3: was like, that's the big league that I guess. I've
- 7:53Speaker 3: always thought thought about him because you see guys taking
- 7:56Speaker 3: guys out at second fights and all that stuff. And
- 7:59Speaker 3: and so that was my first year and like, man,
- 8:01Speaker 3: it's like two two big season dudes, you know, going
- 8:05Speaker 3: at it writing the dugout and you know, but it
- 8:10Speaker 3: was it was just funny. One of the relievers, he's
- 8:12Speaker 3: jogging out there, He's like, check this out.
- 8:13Speaker 1: What I guess?
- 8:14Speaker 3: You never guess what happened? And so and then well
- 8:18Speaker 3: then him and Jeff can't got into it. I was
- 8:20Speaker 3: pitching that day. They were just but there was just
- 8:23Speaker 3: you know, more John. But but I mean the other
- 8:26Speaker 3: stuff is is like, you know, just watching him hit.
- 8:30Speaker 3: I mean, it was just unbelievable the stuff that he
- 8:32Speaker 3: did one, you know, one of the years, I mean,
- 8:35Speaker 3: he never got pitched to, and when he got a ball,
- 8:37Speaker 3: he hit it out and it's just one of the
- 8:40Speaker 3: most amazing things I've ever seen. And but you know,
- 8:44Speaker 3: I he was great to me. It was nice to me,
- 8:46Speaker 3: but uh, you know, didn't really say a whole lot,
- 8:50Speaker 3: you know.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Otherwise, the home run the World Series, I mean there's
- 8:53Speaker 4: the famous shot.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Of Artist one. Yeah, I think that was the farthest
- 8:59Speaker 2: one he hit.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Uh, he had won in Yankee Stadium that was. So
- 9:06Speaker 3: I would say either that one or the one in
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yankee Stadium, or the two that I remember the most.
- 9:12Speaker 3: That was just unbelievable because he had won a Yankee Stadium.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I mean, you know right field. I know that's short,
- 9:20Speaker 3: but I mean he hit it triple deck, uh and
- 9:24Speaker 3: just blasted it. So those were the two that I
- 9:27Speaker 3: remember the most. The other ones were good ones, but yeah,
- 9:29Speaker 3: I mean nothing that made us in the dugout just
- 9:33Speaker 3: kind of.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Because you expected it.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Yeah, the only guy ever played with that I expected
- 9:37Speaker 4: him to hit a home run now he walked to
- 9:39Speaker 4: the play or like, if they throw him a strike,
- 9:40Speaker 4: he's hitting a home run.
- 9:41Speaker 3: And the other guy, the other guy player was big
- 9:43Speaker 3: Cat Andres Gallawagan. He was the other guy that I
- 9:46Speaker 3: was like, he's going to hit the ball hard and
- 9:49Speaker 3: far all the time. And he almost hit the glove
- 9:51Speaker 3: in uh real center.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Yeah, wow, that's a ball.
- 9:55Speaker 1: That's a ball.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah. He hit it right right at the bottom, right
- 9:58Speaker 3: at the so didn't hit the glove, but he hit
- 10:01Speaker 3: where the concourse is.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Did bounce up into the underwear that's up in the glove.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Well, you mentioned, you know, Barryon and Jeff Kent Jeff Kent,
- 10:10Speaker 1: in my mind, should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 10:13Speaker 1: In many minds, I agree when you had two stars,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I mean, Barry's on another level, but but Jeff was
- 10:18Speaker 1: a superstar player. When you have those two jawing, does
- 10:22Speaker 1: anyone try to go to Jeff like, like, let's just
- 10:25Speaker 1: leave him and let him do his thing, even if
- 10:27Speaker 1: you guys disagree, You guys would just let them go
- 10:29Speaker 1: at it.
- 10:31Speaker 3: At first, I think everybody was just like, let him
- 10:33Speaker 3: go at it. Yeah, I mean, I think it's one
- 10:35Speaker 3: of those things is good for the for the team,
- 10:39Speaker 3: you know, to see someone challenge Barry, you know. I
- 10:42Speaker 3: mean I don't think they were going to actually fight.
- 10:45Speaker 3: I think they were just going to get in each
- 10:46Speaker 3: other's face. That's that's what happened. But you know, I
- 10:50Speaker 3: remember Dusty came over and pulled Jeff away and he
- 10:53Speaker 3: was hot. But I think for us as a team,
- 10:56Speaker 3: I was like, this is that was a good thing.
- 10:57Speaker 3: That was a good thing to see. You know, someone
- 10:59Speaker 3: like Jeff, who you know, he wasn't an outspoken leader,
- 11:03Speaker 3: but he came to play every day. He played hard,
- 11:06Speaker 3: and he did his job very well. And so he
- 11:09Speaker 3: did he did his work on the field, and so
- 11:11Speaker 3: it was good to see that, see that he was
- 11:13Speaker 3: gonna challenge him.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Speaking of Jeff, were you there when he fell off
- 11:16Speaker 4: the car and his wrists. I was on the team
- 11:18Speaker 4: and he was washing his washing his car. I was
- 11:20Speaker 4: on the team when I heard heard about it and
- 11:23Speaker 4: he came in. They said that he hurt his wrist,
- 11:28Speaker 4: and then eventually hear how happy it was, and so
- 11:33Speaker 4: all right, man, I guess you know that's his story
- 11:35Speaker 4: and looking to it.
- 11:36Speaker 6: And he stuck to it. Credit he did stick to
- 11:38Speaker 6: it for a long Car washing can be very dangerous. Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 6: careful out there, kids, you can slip, very careful. You
- 11:45Speaker 6: hurt your wrist for a long time.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Right, that was the story that they can do it.
- 11:54Speaker 1: When you watch the game, Now, what do you love
- 11:56Speaker 1: about it? And what do you not love about it?
- 12:00Speaker 5: Uh?
- 12:02Speaker 3: I mean I love seeing seeing guys throw throw that hard.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I mean, that's that's really cool, and see how they
- 12:08Speaker 3: spin it and everything.
- 12:12Speaker 2: You know, there's.
- 12:13Speaker 3: A a lot of people. What I hear is a
- 12:17Speaker 3: lot of people say that, you know, these are these
- 12:19Speaker 3: players are more athletic than than ever. And I'm like, well,
- 12:22Speaker 3: if you go back and watch video of you know,
- 12:25Speaker 3: guys before we even played the plays that they're making,
- 12:29Speaker 3: you know, I mean sacrificing their bodies, you know, and
- 12:32Speaker 3: all that stuff. I'm like, yeah, some pretty speedy guys,
- 12:35Speaker 3: athletic guys, guys that just do a lot of great
- 12:37Speaker 3: things and uh, guys pictures that can throw all day
- 12:42Speaker 3: and so so I hear that, I'm like, yeah, I mean,
- 12:46Speaker 3: come on, we can't just count you know, uh, the
- 12:50Speaker 3: you know, the older generation, you know players, but but
- 12:53Speaker 3: a lot of these guys are just you know, very
- 12:56Speaker 3: very athletic and skilled, and I'd like so I'd like
- 12:59Speaker 3: to see them do a lot more, you know, with
- 13:02Speaker 3: with speed, taking extra bases, you know, moving guys over
- 13:07Speaker 3: and stuff at at certain times. But I mean that's
- 13:09Speaker 3: a part going into what I guess I don't care
- 13:12Speaker 3: about the game. Is I see a lot of pitchers
- 13:14Speaker 3: just throwing the ball right down the middle of the
- 13:16Speaker 3: plate and guys swinging and missing. I'm like, how how
- 13:18Speaker 3: are they missing these pitches? I mean, I know they're harder,
- 13:20Speaker 3: you can tell me more so, yeah, I mean, but
- 13:23Speaker 3: I mean if you're consistently swinging under under under under,
- 13:27Speaker 3: I mean, at some point, don't you think, yeah, so
- 13:33Speaker 3: that's that's the part. I'm just like, I just don't
- 13:34Speaker 3: get it, you know, I don't get that part. And
- 13:37Speaker 3: I see a lot, just a lot of pictures. In
- 13:40Speaker 3: my opinion, they're not trying to set up guys get
- 13:45Speaker 3: them out in three pitches. I mean, we have here
- 13:49Speaker 3: at the pro you know, arguably one of the best
- 13:51Speaker 3: pitchers I ever lived, and Greg Maddox said, I want
- 13:54Speaker 3: action on three pitches. He wants to get guys out
- 13:57Speaker 3: in three pitches. And I'm like, you know, that's not
- 14:01Speaker 3: even I don't even think that's even a thought at
- 14:04Speaker 3: this point or unless they say I'm going to try
- 14:06Speaker 3: to get three swings of missus right with ye. So
- 14:09Speaker 3: so it's just that stuff. I mean, I I like
- 14:11Speaker 3: guys that use the bat, that hit the ball right field,
- 14:16Speaker 3: you know, when you when they go just going with
- 14:18Speaker 3: the pitch and stuff getting on base, because you're still
- 14:21Speaker 3: getting on base, you know. So so I'd like that
- 14:24Speaker 3: and the fact that the game doesn't have pitchers hitting
- 14:29Speaker 3: in that whole thing. I love the strategy of all that,
- 14:32Speaker 3: you know, where teams had to figure out double switches
- 14:34Speaker 3: and who you know, how how long we're going to
- 14:36Speaker 3: let the pitcher go, are we going to let the
- 14:38Speaker 3: pitcher hit?
- 14:39Speaker 2: Switching?
- 14:40Speaker 3: So when you're on the mound there and uh, you know,
- 14:44Speaker 3: as a pitcher, and you're you're trying to figure out like, Okay,
- 14:49Speaker 3: what's the manager gonna do here? Is he gonna let
- 14:50Speaker 3: this guy go or pinch hit? Then who are they
- 14:52Speaker 3: going to pinch hit? And then so you're you're having
- 14:55Speaker 3: to figure out the matchups and beforehand, you're doing all
- 14:58Speaker 3: the work to figure out who would they pinch during
- 15:00Speaker 3: that time? And then then they throw a guy out
- 15:04Speaker 3: there and you're ready to go, and so it's just
- 15:05Speaker 3: that strategy stuff, and you know, there's just a lot
- 15:09Speaker 3: more movement parts. I think that I really loved about
- 15:12Speaker 3: the game.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Yeah all right, so you played Oklahoma won the national
- 15:15Speaker 4: championship in nineteen ninety four. You're a big Sooners fan.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I check your Instagram. You're always you know, owe you this,
- 15:22Speaker 4: owe you that. But oh you had their welcome to
- 15:25Speaker 4: the SEC moment this year in football. So now they're
- 15:27Speaker 4: in big boy football.
- 15:28Speaker 2: There's no more.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Big age, little twelve, whatever they want to call it.
- 15:32Speaker 2: I think they can handle the SEC. It means more
- 15:34Speaker 2: down there, it does mean more.
- 15:36Speaker 3: It's it's a lot more exciting, I can tell you that.
- 15:41Speaker 3: I mean, there's like, besides the non conference, there's no
- 15:45Speaker 3: up and so so everybody's excited about it. But this year,
- 15:50Speaker 3: I think a lot of people are gonna I don't
- 15:53Speaker 3: want to say surprise, because Oklahoma football you.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Can't run anymore.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Okay, yeah that I think Barry Sisters has recently said
- 16:01Speaker 3: that if anyone did that, no one would know how
- 16:03Speaker 3: to even defend it. But yeah, I don't want to
- 16:07Speaker 3: say be surprised, because I think everybody expects Oklahoma football
- 16:10Speaker 3: to be good. So so I think this year, though,
- 16:13Speaker 3: they will be good. Vena Boles has their defense where
- 16:18Speaker 3: he wants it. Last year they showed like what they
- 16:20Speaker 3: could really do, you know, defensive wise, and unfortunately they
- 16:24Speaker 3: just didn't have much of offense. You know, a lot
- 16:27Speaker 3: of guys hurt but just didn't get it done. So
- 16:30Speaker 3: so it was really really tough. But that game they've
- 16:32Speaker 3: played against Alabama showed like what kind of defense they
- 16:35Speaker 3: really have. And this year new offense, quarter coordinator, a
- 16:40Speaker 3: great quarterback and jo Mattier coming from Washington State who
- 16:44Speaker 3: put up some huge numbers and so so I think
- 16:48Speaker 3: this year and A lot of just like a lot
- 16:51Speaker 3: of other people. They said that they think that Oak
- 16:53Speaker 3: is gonna be one of those sleepers that you know
- 16:55Speaker 3: you'll see in the playoffs.
- 16:56Speaker 4: By the way, the most famous guy on that team,
- 16:58Speaker 4: the ninety four Oklahoma team, isn't you is a Mark
- 17:00Speaker 4: Redmond who I played with, came up with isn't the
- 17:03Speaker 4: minor brothers who I played with?
- 17:04Speaker 2: It's Tim Walton, the softball coach.
- 17:06Speaker 4: How the heck do you go from being a college
- 17:08Speaker 4: fitcher to the freaking softball coach whin's national championships.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Yea, Patty Gasso wanted a baseball guy at you know,
- 17:15Speaker 3: Patty gassa head coach Olkahomos. She wanted a guy with
- 17:18Speaker 3: a baseball mind. And I think she was really one
- 17:21Speaker 3: of the first ones in.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Softball to.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Uh think in baseball terms as far as athletes, as
- 17:28Speaker 3: far as situation, as far as hitting, you know, just
- 17:30Speaker 3: the mentality. And so she wanted a baseball guy. And
- 17:34Speaker 3: and Tim was your guy. Now that he went every
- 17:36Speaker 3: year wins. Every he went to OU, they won. I
- 17:40Speaker 3: think he was there their first national championship. He got
- 17:42Speaker 3: a job at Wichhall State, turned theirs around, went to
- 17:44Speaker 3: Florida turned their program around, and he's won a couple
- 17:49Speaker 3: uh national championships and always in the College World Series
- 17:52Speaker 3: and it's just yeah, so he kept that thing going.
- 17:56Speaker 3: What what he what Patty was wanting? So uh, and
- 18:00Speaker 3: he's done an amazing job. And another guy from that
- 18:03Speaker 3: from that same team, he's a he's a softball coach.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Oklall State.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Oh wow, he's been there for for a while. He's
- 18:09Speaker 3: done great and they think they've gone to a College
- 18:11Speaker 3: World Series like six out of.
- 18:14Speaker 1: His eight years.
- 18:14Speaker 3: And uh, he was my roommate in college. And yeah,
- 18:18Speaker 3: he was STIM's assistant coach. It lord, he brought him down.
- 18:21Speaker 3: There's two guys with great baseball minds and and that's
- 18:24Speaker 3: how they got it done. So yeah, so's it's pretty
- 18:27Speaker 3: sweet story. Well, Russ, it was great, great talking with you. Yeah, great, Sorry,
- 18:32Speaker 3: I was Susan just twenty seconds. Because we're college college football.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Dreams were floating in the air and our audience was
- 18:40Speaker 1: floating this way.
- 18:41Speaker 2: But we talked college baseball. That was baseball.
- 18:44Speaker 1: So it took a turn. It took a turn. I
- 18:45Speaker 1: woke back up, back.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Up when we got out of football talk football, college
- 18:50Speaker 4: football or baseball baseball.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Let's go kiss up, we win.
- 18:54Speaker 1: We win, my boy, Russ, thank you, good to see it. Great,

- 20:03Speaker 1: NLCS MVP. Cody Ross is here, Cody, Great to see you.
- 20:07Speaker 1: How's it going here at the Pro?
- 20:09Speaker 7: It looks pretty good, amazing. Great to see you guys too.
- 20:12Speaker 7: Cratzy always good to see you. It's been an incredible
- 20:16Speaker 7: week for us. Lakewood has done a fantastic job. The
- 20:19Speaker 7: Pro is literally the show. I mean, it's incredible. This
- 20:23Speaker 7: is where you want to play, this is what you
- 20:24Speaker 7: want to do when you're retired, this is where you
- 20:27Speaker 7: want to be. And you know, they're just making us
- 20:29Speaker 7: feel like big leaguers and all the things that you
- 20:33Speaker 7: know that we used to fill.
- 20:35Speaker 1: The locker room after the day is a really cool
- 20:38Speaker 1: scene to see everyone hanging out there telling stories. Have
- 20:42Speaker 1: you had some good interactions there?
- 20:45Speaker 7: Yeah, we've had some amazing stories. That's that's what we
- 20:48Speaker 7: missed the most, is, you know, being in the locker room.
- 20:51Speaker 7: Obviously playing, being on the field, competing, that's what we
- 20:54Speaker 7: do out here. It's not doesn't quite give us the
- 20:57Speaker 7: thrill of like a big league game, but it's something.
- 20:59Speaker 7: But truly we missed being in the locker room, on
- 21:03Speaker 7: the buses, on the planes, and just having that camaraderie,
- 21:05Speaker 7: listen to the you know, the stories that have been told,
- 21:08Speaker 7: you know, ten times over and but yeah, it's been incredible.
- 21:11Speaker 4: I invited Scott into the locker room yesterday Scott. Scott
- 21:15Speaker 4: didn't play any sports, so he doesn't so yesterday for
- 21:17Speaker 4: him to sit at the table and get to hear
- 21:19Speaker 4: some stories.
- 21:20Speaker 1: He was like, oh oh oh, I did not make
- 21:24Speaker 1: those sound effects.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah, you've made worse.
- 21:27Speaker 1: It was sipping a drink listening, but great stories. I mean,
- 21:31Speaker 1: what's been your favorite interaction with somebody that you've met
- 21:34Speaker 1: here or spoken to or you know a story sitting
- 21:37Speaker 1: down Schmoltzy.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I mean, I don't.
- 21:40Speaker 7: I got to play against some quite a bit, never
- 21:42Speaker 7: got to play with him. So just hearing some of
- 21:44Speaker 7: the stories he tells about No Maddox and you know
- 21:48Speaker 7: Chipper and some of the guys that you know, all
- 21:50Speaker 7: those guys that he played with for the Brace for
- 21:52Speaker 7: so long. Just hearing those stories from you know, decades ago,
- 21:55Speaker 7: is pretty incredible.
- 21:57Speaker 2: So I would say him mostly.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Let's get your rankings of the top rivalries in baseball
- 22:06Speaker 1: right now? What do you think are the top three
- 22:09Speaker 1: team rivalries in baseball. There's a hot question right now,
- 22:12Speaker 1: you're mastering you because of your Giants dage. I'll give
- 22:16Speaker 1: a little bit of context. There's a big crowd that
- 22:19Speaker 1: says the best robbery in baseball right now is Dodgers Padres.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Because there's also legitimate beet between the two teams. You'll
- 22:24Speaker 1: get Dodgers fan saying we don't care them. We have
- 22:28Speaker 1: all the accolades recently, but those are two good teams
- 22:31Speaker 1: that have great battles, especially in the regular season lately
- 22:35Speaker 1: and a few years ago and the postseason went out,
- 22:37Speaker 1: I mean last year and a few years ago. Obviously
- 22:40Speaker 1: when the Padres won the last year, the Dodgers took it.
- 22:42Speaker 7: Down, So I would it's funny, I would say, still
- 22:47Speaker 7: I think obviously number one for me is the Padres Dodgers. Okay,
- 22:54Speaker 7: it's crazy because back in the day, like the Padres
- 22:56Speaker 7: were just like a team that nobody really cared about.
- 22:59Speaker 7: So it was all ways Dodgers Giants, Dodgers giants, and
- 23:02Speaker 7: then you know, the the d Backs try to sneak
- 23:05Speaker 7: in there a couple of years and try to create
- 23:06Speaker 7: a rivalry with the Dodgers, and it was like, oh,
- 23:08Speaker 7: Dodgers and d Backs are, but I still feel like,
- 23:11Speaker 7: you know, at the end of the day, I think
- 23:13Speaker 7: it's Dodgers Padres right now, even though the history goes
- 23:19Speaker 7: back and there's not much, but it's still some Red
- 23:23Speaker 7: Sox Yankees I feel like is never gonna go away,
- 23:26Speaker 7: even though neither one.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Of them are in the first place.
- 23:28Speaker 7: Like, there's just some really good rivalries out there, and uh,
- 23:31Speaker 7: you know, it's it's gonna be fun to watch down
- 23:33Speaker 7: the stretch. Be a third one because I can't even
- 23:35Speaker 7: think of anybody else.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Right, Dodgers, oh okay, and Red Sox Yankees.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Those are probably three that most people look at you, yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 2: for sure.
- 23:45Speaker 5: Which one is more heated? Though you were in the
- 23:47Speaker 5: middle of Giants Dodgers, you're in the middle of Red
- 23:51Speaker 5: Sox Yankees. Which one is more heated? And do you
- 23:54Speaker 5: have any examples of like things getting a little crazy?
- 24:00Speaker 7: I mean, I think Red Sox Yankees just goes back
- 24:05Speaker 7: so many years and the history that they have of
- 24:08Speaker 7: you know, the fights that they've been in. You know,
- 24:11Speaker 7: it's just you can't you can't compare that really to anything.
- 24:16Speaker 7: I think they are the number one. I don't think
- 24:18Speaker 7: when I was there, we had much beef with them,
- 24:21Speaker 7: although it was always felt like so much tension and
- 24:24Speaker 7: so much you know, just battling going on. But we
- 24:28Speaker 7: never really got into any fights or any bench clearing
- 24:31Speaker 7: stuff when I was there. But I would definitely say
- 24:34Speaker 7: the uh, you know, red Sox Yankees is number.
- 24:37Speaker 4: One before you before we get into some golf here,
- 24:42Speaker 4: because we're going to talk golf with you. If you
- 24:45Speaker 4: would have gotten into a bench clearing brawl, you're from
- 24:48Speaker 4: New Mexico, your dad was a bull rider. You were
- 24:50Speaker 4: also apparently a rodeo clown to like protect protected writers.
- 24:55Speaker 4: So if you got into the bench clearing ball, would
- 24:57Speaker 4: you act more of the clown or would you be
- 24:59Speaker 4: more of the bull rider where you're attacking the bull
- 25:02Speaker 4: or would you be trying to distract somebody so they
- 25:04Speaker 4: could get away safely.
- 25:06Speaker 7: When I was in the minor leagues and we got
- 25:08Speaker 7: into some altercations, I was always right in the middle
- 25:11Speaker 7: of it. Once I got into the big leagues, these
- 25:13Speaker 7: guys are monsters, and I was the guy hiding around
- 25:16Speaker 7: the back, like trying to hold my guy back. So
- 25:19Speaker 7: I would say in the minor leagues, I was the
- 25:20Speaker 7: bull rider in the big leagues.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I was the bullfighter trying to protect my guys.
- 25:26Speaker 1: That's good one more for me. On the baseball side,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I don't know if you've seen any of the realignment
- 25:32Speaker 1: talks right and how eventually they'll add a couple teams
- 25:35Speaker 1: and then things are going to get split up differently.
- 25:37Speaker 1: It's been talked about for years, just that the commissioner
- 25:40Speaker 1: brought it up again recently. Do you think that if
- 25:43Speaker 1: it's realigned geographically, for example, with more Yankees and Mets
- 25:48Speaker 1: teams like that that usually only play each other inner
- 25:50Speaker 1: league style, it will water down a rivalry or do
- 25:53Speaker 1: you think it will heat it up based on how
- 25:55Speaker 1: often baseball teams meet up and then start to build
- 25:58Speaker 1: up a hatred for each other if somebody gets hit
- 26:00Speaker 1: by a pitch, right like you've seen rivalries go from
- 26:04Speaker 1: there to we actually don't like the other side.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so I would. I would say one hundred percent.
- 26:10Speaker 7: If they were to realign it and the Mets played
- 26:14Speaker 7: the Yankees, you'll say it six times a year, I
- 26:18Speaker 7: think the rival would become way bigger.
- 26:21Speaker 1: You're saying, well right now, I think they played six
- 26:23Speaker 1: ish time, no No No.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Six series of years.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Oh, sixeri. Oh yeah, series, like.
- 26:28Speaker 7: We used to nineteen nineteen games against each other, right,
- 26:30Speaker 7: and that's when you create the animosity. Some guy gets hit,
- 26:33Speaker 7: maybe not on purpose, maybe on purpose, you go in,
- 26:36Speaker 7: you know, back to their city a couple you know
- 26:38Speaker 7: months later they're gonna drill somebody. And the next thing
- 26:40Speaker 7: you know, you go back and forth the cities and
- 26:42Speaker 7: it's like you're ready to fight. And so nowadays you
- 26:46Speaker 7: only play them, you know, maybe twice a year, and
- 26:48Speaker 7: it's it's hard.
- 26:50Speaker 2: To get back at somebody.
- 26:51Speaker 7: You have to wait maybe years, and then some guys
- 26:52Speaker 7: aren't even on the team at the time. So I
- 26:54Speaker 7: think it's going to create way more you know, sort
- 26:59Speaker 7: of that animoski of teams.
- 27:03Speaker 5: All right, trade deadline just passed, obviously, we're talking about
- 27:05Speaker 5: all the playoff teams you got traded from the Marlins
- 27:10Speaker 5: to the Giants, ended up winning the NLCS MVP couple
- 27:13Speaker 5: dingers off of roy Holiday, momentous occasion in your life.
- 27:18Speaker 5: But teams are so reticent now, they're so resistant to
- 27:24Speaker 5: trading at the trade deadline, no offense. But Cody Ross
- 27:28Speaker 5: isn't like the biggest name that ever went at the
- 27:31Speaker 5: trade deadline, and yet you have a ring to show
- 27:35Speaker 5: for it. Do you think you can pass that along
- 27:37Speaker 5: to teams who are like, I don't know, don't want
- 27:40Speaker 5: to get rid of my number three prospect in the
- 27:44Speaker 5: organization just because there's a chance to win.
- 27:48Speaker 7: Yeah, that's a great question. And actually I got claimed
- 27:51Speaker 7: off waivers, which is even worse the Marlins member. They
- 27:56Speaker 7: put me on waivers and the Giants claim me to
- 27:58Speaker 7: block me from the Podgres. But yes, I would say,
- 28:01Speaker 7: I mean, that's a great great points. He's like a
- 28:04Speaker 7: lot of these teams are kind of holding back now
- 28:07Speaker 7: and not wanting to let go of their guys. But man,
- 28:09Speaker 7: when you have an opportunity to win, and you and
- 28:12Speaker 7: as a you know, front office guy, as a manager,
- 28:14Speaker 7: as a team like we we know as players, like, hey,
- 28:17Speaker 7: we need to go get somebody because we want to
- 28:19Speaker 7: win right now. And if they don't make that move,
- 28:21Speaker 7: it's like do they even care? Like do we like,
- 28:23Speaker 7: what are we doing here? And so when the when
- 28:26Speaker 7: the when the front office steps out and they make
- 28:28Speaker 7: that trade and they at you know, show the show
- 28:31Speaker 7: the guys that are out there playing every day kick
- 28:33Speaker 7: getting their butts kicked that hey, we're we're willing to
- 28:35Speaker 7: go all in, Like, that's for me, That's what it's
- 28:37Speaker 7: all about.
- 28:38Speaker 4: All right, you threw left handed better right handed. You're
- 28:42Speaker 4: you're complete weird though, And there's a few others, but
- 28:45Speaker 4: not many. Ricky forgot about Ricky. He was pretty using
- 28:48Speaker 4: the best, all right.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Yeah, by far? What you play golf right or left handed?
- 28:52Speaker 4: I play golf right handed, so you know, like klay
- 28:53Speaker 4: bucklet you play golf right hand and then you put
- 28:55Speaker 4: left hand out.
- 28:56Speaker 7: I'm not that weird, but it plays weird. So it's funny.
- 29:01Speaker 7: I do everything underhand right handed. So if you think,
- 29:06Speaker 7: like if I, if I was to pitch of softball,
- 29:08Speaker 7: I would have to pitch it right handed.
- 29:09Speaker 2: I can't pitch it left handed.
- 29:11Speaker 7: That it's really awkward if I but if I throw
- 29:15Speaker 7: darts or if I throw a baseball, I have to
- 29:17Speaker 7: do overhand football obviously, But like it's weird. Everything underhand,
- 29:21Speaker 7: right handed, everything overhand left handed.
- 29:24Speaker 2: You are a weirdo, so weird. Yeah, it's unique.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Best best golf course you ever played, Cyprus Point Carmel.
- 29:33Speaker 2: It's really hard to be.
- 29:34Speaker 7: I've never played Augusta and I've never played Pine Valley.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I never played it.
- 29:41Speaker 7: I've been invited a bunch and I just it's just
- 29:43Speaker 7: I can't for forever. That was that a call? Call me?
- 29:47Speaker 7: Did he say, call me? Oh, craty, don't even don't
- 29:51Speaker 7: even tempt me, buddy.
- 29:52Speaker 4: Bring your jacket to take a shower in as soon
- 29:55Speaker 4: as you come off the golf. Of course, you have
- 29:56Speaker 4: to put the jack on. You have to take a shower,
- 29:57Speaker 4: and I'll work oat.
- 29:58Speaker 2: The whole deal. I'll shower and whatever they make me.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Shockrat you got it, you're setting it up.
- 30:05Speaker 5: Just just shoot me a text. I'll have my guys
- 30:07Speaker 5: see if he can get you on.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Done. Best player in New Mexico, Gregman, Brian Urlacker Baseball, Yeah,
- 30:19Speaker 2: by far. I was holding down the title for a
- 30:22Speaker 2: while and then he just went you know him, oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 30:27Speaker 2: we got.
- 30:28Speaker 7: When he was younger, We got to know each other,
- 30:29Speaker 7: get to know his dad, and then yeah, he's just
- 30:32Speaker 7: a he's an incredible guy.
- 30:33Speaker 2: I mean that, what a student of the game. He
- 30:35Speaker 2: is amazing.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Well, Cody, good luck out there, great to see you.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Thanks for the time, man, And this was probably the
- 30:42Speaker 1: best interview you've ever done with what you.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Got out of it, by far.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yeah, best hand out, Thanks Cody
- 30:48Speaker 2: Thanks guys, appreciate it.
