Latest / Outspoken the Podcast / The Pregnancy Announcement We Didn't See Coming
Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show, Abbey Chatfield's
- 0:13Speaker 1: musician boyfriend runs into her ex, Olivia Rogers reveals how
- 0:18Speaker 1: she met her new man, Shani Grimmond is forced to
- 0:22Speaker 1: flee Bali, the Olympics anti-sex beds and the rise of
- 0:26Speaker 1: the man perm. But first, pyjama entrepreneur Sophie Keisha has
- 0:31Speaker 1: announced she's expecting her third child. And this definitely wasn't
- 0:35Speaker 1: on my 2024 bingo card. I know. Last year we
- 0:38Speaker 1: did influencer predictions for 2024 and I would have never
- 0:41Speaker 1: put this down. I had a look back and quite
- 0:45Speaker 1: a few of those predictions have come true. We will
- 0:47Speaker 1: revisit it at the end of the year. But getting
- 0:49Speaker 1: into this announcement, Sophie uploaded a carousel of images. And
- 0:53Speaker 1: in the photo, Sophie and her two kids, Bobby and Florence...
- 0:57Speaker 1: are all lying in bed wearing matching leopard print pyjamas
- 1:00Speaker 1: from Sophie's brand, of course, with Sophie's pregnant belly on display.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And in one image, we see a close-up of her
- 1:07Speaker 1: stomach with Keisha branding boldly below it. I couldn't believe
- 1:11Speaker 1: the product placement here. They say the devil works hard,
- 1:13Speaker 1: but apparently Sophie Keisha works harder. Now, in a couple
- 1:16Speaker 1: of the photos, the family is also enjoying a pizza together,
- 1:20Speaker 1: which was really random. And Sophie captioned the post, mine. Now,
- 1:24Speaker 1: this post led to a lot of confusion because Some
- 1:27Speaker 1: followers weren't sure if it was a pregnancy announcement and
- 1:30Speaker 1: thought maybe she was referencing that she had a food
- 1:32Speaker 1: baby because of the pizza. I couldn't help but notice
- 1:35Speaker 1: that the kids look really miserable in the photos. It
- 1:38Speaker 1: looked like they really didn't want to be there. And
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm wondering whether that's why the pizza was there because
- 1:43Speaker 1: she wanted to bribe them to be in it. Well,
- 1:45Speaker 1: that poor kid Bobby, last week he was vomiting his
- 1:47Speaker 1: guts up, so he's probably still feeling sick. I hope
- 1:49Speaker 1: these photos were taken before that incident. Her bedroom looked
- 1:52Speaker 1: a lot cleaner. I couldn't see any vomit marks on
- 1:54Speaker 1: the floor. Well, doesn't this add more to the story?
- 1:55Speaker 1: Because poor Sophie Keisha, she might be suffering from morning
- 1:58Speaker 1: sickness and she's having to deal with everybody else's sick. Now,
- 2:02Speaker 1: the Blue Tick Brigade was out in force with Steph
- 2:04Speaker 1: Clare Smith, Ashley Bynes and Abby Gilmore all congratulating her.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And I was really fascinated to see what sort of
- 2:11Speaker 1: engagement this post was going to get because Sophie's engagement
- 2:15Speaker 1: rate has dramatically dropped off over the past few years.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So following her breakup with ex-fiance Maddie Garrick, she vowed
- 2:23Speaker 1: to no longer share private details about her life, which
- 2:26Speaker 1: led to a lot of her followers tapping out and
- 2:28Speaker 1: losing interest. And every time I seem to check in
- 2:31Speaker 1: with her, it feels like her Instagram is one big ad,
- 2:34Speaker 1: either for her pajama line, Keisha, or for HelloFresh sponsorship deals.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like you're getting the authentic her or
- 2:41Speaker 1: any insight into her family life or her relationships, which
- 2:44Speaker 1: is what we want to hear. I ended up taking
- 2:47Speaker 1: a look at Social Blade, which is a platform that
- 2:49Speaker 1: shows you influencers analytics. And Sophie averages around a thousand
- 2:54Speaker 1: likes per post, which is fairly low for an influencer
- 2:58Speaker 1: with over 256,000 followers. And her engagement rate is sitting
- 3:02Speaker 1: at 0.6%. Wow, that is really low. Because if you
- 3:06Speaker 1: look at someone like Georgia Richards, she has around 67,000
- 3:10Speaker 1: followers on Instagram. Yet her engagement is through the roof.
- 3:14Speaker 1: It's around 13%. But she has a very engaged community.
- 3:17Speaker 1: And Sophie used to have an engaged community, but she's
- 3:20Speaker 1: lost a lot of those loyal followers. She has lost
- 3:23Speaker 1: 510 followers in the past 30 days. I mean, her
- 3:27Speaker 1: pregnancy post did fare quite well in comparison to her
- 3:30Speaker 1: regular post, which is always the case with big life events.
- 3:33Speaker 1: She got over 22,000 likes and 835 comments. I'm sure
- 3:38Speaker 1: she also got a fuck ton of send-ons because I
- 3:41Speaker 1: think The announcement blew everyone's minds. No one was expecting it. Well,
- 3:44Speaker 1: you said it fared fairly well. It got 22 times
- 3:47Speaker 1: more likes than she normally gets. Yeah, I get that.
- 3:49Speaker 1: But I'm saying other influencer announcements like this probably get
- 3:53Speaker 1: hundreds of thousands of likes. And she actually lost 26
- 3:56Speaker 1: followers that day. And usually... When an influencer makes a
- 4:00Speaker 1: pregnancy announcement or an engagement announcement, they get more people
- 4:03Speaker 1: wanting to follow along with that life event because maybe
- 4:06Speaker 1: they're in the same life moment. I saw this TikTok
- 4:08Speaker 1: today that this guy put up and he said that
- 4:11Speaker 1: anytime someone announces they're pregnant or they're engaged or they're
- 4:15Speaker 1: going to Europe with the love of their life, it's
- 4:17Speaker 1: an instant unfollow from him. So maybe that's what's happened now.
- 4:20Speaker 1: The day before Sophie made this pregnancy announcement, she surprised
- 4:25Speaker 1: her followers by sharing that she's starting up a YouTube channel.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So it's all making a lot more sense. And so
- 4:31Speaker 1: far she has only 87 subscribers and she has shared
- 4:35Speaker 1: a two minute video. Wow. I'm not trying to bash
- 4:39Speaker 1: Sophie because I know it can be tough getting YouTube subscribers,
- 4:43Speaker 1: but you'd think if you've got 246,000 people on Instagram
- 4:44Speaker 1: and You might get around 10,000 of those coming over
- 4:50Speaker 1: to subscribe to your YouTube channel. The video that she
- 4:52Speaker 1: put up isn't a great advert for wanting to subscribe
- 4:55Speaker 1: because I don't know if it's a short, but when
- 4:58Speaker 1: I clicked on it, it came up as a regular
- 5:00Speaker 1: YouTube video. It was all shot on her phone in
- 5:03Speaker 1: portrait mode. It was her waking her kids up in
- 5:05Speaker 1: the morning. cooking them breakfast and then driving them to school.
- 5:08Speaker 1: It was a two minute video. I would not tune
- 5:11Speaker 1: in again. Maybe people were concerned she was going to
- 5:14Speaker 1: show her day from last week, which involved all that vomit. Well,
- 5:17Speaker 1: that video ended up getting 800 views. So it's clear
- 5:19Speaker 1: that people wanted to check in, see what it was about,
- 5:22Speaker 1: but then were probably feeling pretty uninspired to then subscribe.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Maybe she made a rookie error and tried to upload
- 5:27Speaker 1: her YouTube short on her computer. Because if you do
- 5:31Speaker 1: it that way and not through your phone, That's when
- 5:33Speaker 1: it uploads as a short video. But then it didn't
- 5:36Speaker 1: make sense because the thumbnail was a landscape thumbnail. So
- 5:40Speaker 1: I don't know what it was. She's going to have
- 5:41Speaker 1: to pick up a YouTube game if she wants to
- 5:43Speaker 1: attract subscribers. Yeah. It's clear though, that she is trying
- 5:47Speaker 1: to launch a YouTube channel off the back of this
- 5:50Speaker 1: pregnancy announcement and reignite her former success as a mummy blogger.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Because in recent years, as we've touched on, she's been
- 5:57Speaker 1: very reluctant to share about her private life and it
- 6:00Speaker 1: has made her content very irrelevant. I wouldn't say that
- 6:03Speaker 1: she's sort of in that influencer zeitgeist at the moment. Well,
- 6:06Speaker 1: she's smart enough to realize that she needs to share
- 6:09Speaker 1: aspects of her life again to get her followers interested. Well,
- 6:12Speaker 1: she originally built her core following off a blog that
- 6:16Speaker 1: she created called The Young Mummy, and that's when she
- 6:18Speaker 1: fell pregnant with Bobby a decade ago. And followers really
- 6:22Speaker 1: loved her no bullshit attitude and how she would keep
- 6:24Speaker 1: things very real. I just find it weird that She
- 6:29Speaker 1: was saying only a year ago that she wants privacy,
- 6:32Speaker 1: yet now she's having a baby. It's like, let's put
- 6:34Speaker 1: everything up there. Let's invade this child's privacy. Why don't
- 6:37Speaker 1: I just get in my head? We want privacy. Like
- 6:39Speaker 1: on that episode of South Park with Harry and Meghan.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I think her reluctance to share about her personal life
- 6:45Speaker 1: has resulted in a huge loss of brand deals and
- 6:48Speaker 1: also profits for her business, Keisha. And we've seen her
- 6:51Speaker 1: in recent times sharing on an Instagram story about the
- 6:55Speaker 1: huge water bills and electricity bills that she's been receiving
- 6:58Speaker 1: and She's more been talking about her struggles financially. So
- 7:02Speaker 1: I do think that she is having to start this
- 7:05Speaker 1: YouTube channel up in a bid to make more money
- 7:08Speaker 1: and to stay relevant as an influencer. Well, followers have
- 7:11Speaker 1: noticed that Sophie has added the term single mum to
- 7:14Speaker 1: her caption on Instagram. It's an interesting way to brand
- 7:17Speaker 1: yourself because in the past, she's been somewhat unrelatable because
- 7:21Speaker 1: she's made so much money off social media. But by
- 7:23Speaker 1: branding yourself as a single mum, you're sort of saying
- 7:26Speaker 1: I'm one of the people. get behind me, support me.
- 7:29Speaker 1: As opposed to pajama mogul. Exactly. Well, in January, 2023,
- 7:34Speaker 1: Sophie revealed that she was planning on having a baby
- 7:37Speaker 1: with her ex-fiance, Maddie Garrick, before they split. And she
- 7:41Speaker 1: explained that they were on a waiting list for a
- 7:43Speaker 1: sperm donor for nine months. And she was supposed to
- 7:46Speaker 1: be getting pregnant in January. So perhaps it shouldn't be
- 7:49Speaker 1: such a shock for us that she's gone on and
- 7:51Speaker 1: done it herself. She was very frustrated after going through
- 7:54Speaker 1: this whole experience and being put on this waiting list
- 7:56Speaker 1: only for her relationship to fall apart. And she directed
- 7:59Speaker 1: a lot of that anger at Maddie. I can understand
- 8:02Speaker 1: her feeling that way. And there were rumors about infidelity,
- 8:05Speaker 1: which have not been confirmed. Well, she told a reporter
- 8:09Speaker 1: to get so close and then have that split happen.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It not only affects my relationship, but affects my future
- 8:15Speaker 1: of being a mom as well. It's such a big
- 8:17Speaker 1: process to go through now for it to be taken
- 8:19Speaker 1: away from me. So it is really lovely news that
- 8:22Speaker 1: she's able to do this on her own. Good morning.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I'm recording the podcast today. I don't know what to wear,
- 8:28Speaker 2: so let's figure it out together.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Olivia Rogers has revealed how she met her new boyfriend, Hugo. Now,
- 8:35Speaker 1: whilst the two have so far kept their relationship very private,
- 8:39Speaker 1: she divulged how they met in an Instagram Q & A.
- 8:42Speaker 1: So she wrote, I love the story of how we
- 8:45Speaker 1: met So I'm happy to answer this one. She went
- 8:48Speaker 1: on to explain that she was out in a bar
- 8:50Speaker 1: in Melbourne when her best friend Paul Versace spotted Hugo
- 8:53Speaker 1: on the dance floor. He is such a wingman for
- 8:55Speaker 1: Olivia because he was also friends with her ex Morgan Waterhouse.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's a good point. I wonder if he's still friends
- 9:01Speaker 1: with Morgan because it would be pretty awkward now that
- 9:03Speaker 1: they've had this very messy split. He would have had
- 9:05Speaker 1: to take sides with Olivia. I think he must have
- 9:08Speaker 1: known that Hugo was Olivia's type straight away because he
- 9:11Speaker 1: has an uncanny resemblance to her ex-husband, Justin McKagan. Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 1: So he ended up approaching Hugo and went over and said,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you're handsome. Are you single? I have the perfect girl
- 9:22Speaker 1: for you. I wonder if he initially thought that Paul
- 9:25Speaker 1: was hitting on him. Like, I wonder how quickly he
- 9:27Speaker 1: was like, I have the perfect girl for you. It's
- 9:29Speaker 1: not me that's interested in you. It's the girl over there.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Can you imagine being this guy though? Most of the
- 9:34Speaker 1: time when someone says they've got a friend, you're like, oh, okay.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Can I see a photo? It's literally Miss Universe Australia.
- 9:40Speaker 1: This guy has lucked out. So Paul ended up going
- 9:43Speaker 1: and grabbing Olivia, bringing her over and just placing her
- 9:47Speaker 1: in front of him. He would have thought all of
- 9:48Speaker 1: his Christmases would come at once. Then Olivia said, the
- 9:51Speaker 1: way Paul describes it is there were love hearts popping
- 9:54Speaker 1: in the sky all around both of us. Well, from
- 9:57Speaker 1: the very few details I've heard about Hugo, he and
- 10:00Speaker 1: Olivia seem really well suited because both of them grew
- 10:03Speaker 1: up in Adelaide. So Hugo attended Scotch College, which is
- 10:07Speaker 1: Adelaide's most prestigious school. When you say most prestigious, it's
- 10:10Speaker 1: the most expensive school in Adelaide to attend. And a
- 10:13Speaker 1: lot of people initially thought that they were family friends
- 10:17Speaker 1: and that's how they met, but we've been told they
- 10:20Speaker 1: met on the dance floor. Yeah, I was guessing it
- 10:22Speaker 1: was like a dating app thing, but old school.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I would never have even been in this man's orbit
- 10:30Speaker 2: if it wasn't for Matt ending it with me on
- 10:35Speaker 2: national TV and it being one of the most humiliating,
- 10:38Speaker 2: painful experiences that I've been through in my career.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Whilst in Melbourne working on his album, Peaking Duck's Adam
- 10:46Speaker 1: Hyde ran into his girlfriend, Abby Chatfield's ex, Dr. Matt
- 10:50Speaker 1: Agnew at a pub. And instead of ignoring each other
- 10:53Speaker 1: or being frosty, they sent Abby a photo together. I
- 10:56Speaker 1: love that Abby actually shared this photo on her Instagram
- 11:00Speaker 1: because it is such an iconic picture. The first thing
- 11:02Speaker 1: I noticed was just how different Adam and Matt looked.
- 11:06Speaker 1: So you've got Adam the rocker with the big curly hair,
- 11:09Speaker 1: and then you've got The clean cut scientist. Yeah. And
- 11:13Speaker 1: I mean, we were talking about Olivia Rogers before. She
- 11:16Speaker 1: has this cookie cutter type that she goes for, but
- 11:18Speaker 1: Abby seems to have a variety of types. In saying that,
- 11:22Speaker 1: she was put on The Bachelor where, you know, she
- 11:24Speaker 1: kind of had to go for whoever was there. It's
- 11:26Speaker 1: maybe he wasn't her regular type. Now in the photo,
- 11:30Speaker 1: Adam is doing the peace sign and Matt is sticking
- 11:32Speaker 1: his tongue out. It And as you said, Abby instantly
- 11:37Speaker 1: uploaded this to social media and wrote, ah, when Adam
- 11:41Speaker 1: sends me photos, it's usually either something horny or funny.
- 11:44Speaker 1: But I guess this is a combination of both. Two
- 11:46Speaker 1: of the loveliest men I know. If Matt Agnew had
- 11:49Speaker 1: chosen me, I wouldn't have met Adam. So grateful all around.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Everything works out in the end. Now, for those who
- 11:56Speaker 1: don't have a good knowledge of Bachelor history, Abby came
- 11:59Speaker 1: second on Matt's season. And the pair generated headlines when
- 12:03Speaker 1: Abby and Matt were dry humping on the beach. And
- 12:06Speaker 1: this is where that whole narrative of Abby being a
- 12:09Speaker 1: slut and being slut-shamed came from. And this whole chance
- 12:13Speaker 1: meeting between Adam and Matt really made Abby reflect on
- 12:18Speaker 1: this whole butterfly effect situation. Here's what she said.
- 12:21Speaker 2: But here we are five years later and there's beautiful
- 12:25Speaker 2: Matt with beautiful Adam. Matt and I are friends now.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And Adam, I want to cry, and Adam is– Ran
- 12:34Speaker 2: into him in a pub and thank you, Matt, because
- 12:38Speaker 2: you breaking up with me led me to Adam. After
- 12:43Speaker 2: my time on The Bachelor, I got slut shamed really badly.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I think my edit wouldn't have been the same if
- 12:50Speaker 2: Matt didn't not end up with me. I then started
- 12:54Speaker 2: writing articles about feminism, then a podcast about my opinions
- 12:57Speaker 2: on things. Then I got a radio show from that
- 13:00Speaker 2: podcast being so successful. And then I met Adam. interviewing
- 13:04Speaker 2: him on my radio show.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Abby then went on to call Adam her soulmate and
- 13:09Speaker 1: she said that he is really the love of her
- 13:11Speaker 1: life and they are just meant to be together. That's
- 13:13Speaker 1: a big statement. They have only been together, well, publicly
- 13:17Speaker 1: for a couple of months, but they seem so cute together.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I don't often ship relationships, but I do for this one.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I think it's because I love cocker spaniels and they
- 13:29Speaker 1: share two cocker spaniels together. And They look like they're
- 13:31Speaker 1: Cocker Spaniels. They both got brown curly hair. They're those
- 13:34Speaker 1: people who look like they're dogs. Yeah. And also, I
- 13:37Speaker 1: think it shows what a great guy Adam is because
- 13:39Speaker 1: a lot of people's boyfriends wouldn't really want to hang
- 13:43Speaker 1: out with their girlfriend's ex. And the fact that he
- 13:46Speaker 1: had fun with it and took a photo. Well, yeah,
- 13:48Speaker 1: I want to point out that Abby said that she
- 13:50Speaker 1: and Matt Agnew are really good friends now, which is
- 13:53Speaker 1: also quite rare. I'm going to Bali tomorrow and I
- 13:57Speaker 1: have not packed. And I do have a bit of
- 13:59Speaker 1: work that I need to get done. Shani Grimman has
- 14:03Speaker 1: shared about the scary moment she fainted in a nail
- 14:06Speaker 1: salon in Bali. Now, we spoke last week about how
- 14:09Speaker 1: Shani was back vlogging on TikTok. And in her most
- 14:12Speaker 1: recent video, she showed her followers her prep for Bali,
- 14:16Speaker 1: which included taking constipation medication. Now, poor Shani, she only
- 14:20Speaker 1: lasted three days in Bali. So she told her followers,
- 14:24Speaker 1: When she arrived on the island, she was suffering from
- 14:26Speaker 1: really bad PCOS symptoms. So she was nearly a month
- 14:30Speaker 1: late for her period and was feeling quite dizzy and
- 14:32Speaker 1: had a sore stomach. So while getting her nails done
- 14:35Speaker 1: in a local salon, Shani remembered telling her friend Liv
- 14:39Speaker 1: she didn't feel well. And the next minute, Sharni fainted.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And it was very lucky her friend was there because
- 14:45Speaker 1: she ended up catching her before she hit her head
- 14:48Speaker 1: on the ground. This is why Bali doesn't appeal to me.
- 14:51Speaker 1: It's either so hot and humid that you feel like
- 14:53Speaker 1: you're going to faint or you're shitting yourself from Bali belly.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Like it's either one of the two. And I think
- 14:59Speaker 1: Bali is one of the worst places that you can
- 15:01Speaker 1: feel sick because it's such a chaotic place. Like obviously
- 15:05Speaker 1: you've got these beautiful villas that you can relax in.
- 15:08Speaker 1: But when you're feeling sick or you have diarrhea, there's
- 15:11Speaker 1: no place like home and your own toilet. You don't
- 15:14Speaker 1: really want to be going to the hospital over there.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Sharni said that her PCOS cramps continued on for 30
- 15:20Speaker 1: to 45 minutes while she was lying on the floor
- 15:23Speaker 1: at the nail salon. And she ended up sharing a
- 15:25Speaker 1: photo of her acrylics half done and also a photo
- 15:29Speaker 1: of her lying on the floor on her Instagram story.
- 15:33Speaker 1: In the Bali prep vlog, She was showing her audience
- 15:36Speaker 1: the new camera that she picked up and when she
- 15:38Speaker 1: picked up the box, that's when she broke her fingernail.
- 15:41Speaker 1: So it's a butterfly effect, isn't it? It is. We're
- 15:44Speaker 1: seeing it coming to life. Because she ended up flying
- 15:47Speaker 1: home straight away to Queensland after this incident. I could
- 15:51Speaker 1: just imagine her sitting on the plane having to look
- 15:53Speaker 1: at her half-done fingernails. I hope she's had time to
- 15:55Speaker 1: get them fixed.
- 15:56Speaker 2: For those wondering about the cardboard beds in the village,
- 16:01Speaker 2: I'm going to.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Show you what they look like. Now, Sophie, the most
- 16:05Speaker 1: talked about part of the Olympic Games so far has
- 16:08Speaker 1: been the cardboard beds. So they have been dubbed the
- 16:12Speaker 1: anti-sex beds and athletes aren't happy. This is how night
- 16:17Speaker 1: one went on the cardboard beds. It's actually rock solid.
- 16:22Speaker 1: We're trying it. You can flip them over.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Apparently there's a softer side, but that was the soft side.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So there's a misconception that this bed is just made
- 16:31Speaker 1: of cardboard. The actual structure is, but it does have
- 16:34Speaker 1: a mattress on top of it, which doesn't look particularly comfortable.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Why are they using cardboard? These poor people, they've trained
- 16:42Speaker 1: their whole fucking lives to be there. They need to
- 16:45Speaker 1: get a good night's sleep and they're having to sleep
- 16:48Speaker 1: with a cardboard frame. Well, it's not the first time
- 16:50Speaker 1: this cardboard bed has been used. So it made an
- 16:53Speaker 1: appearance in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. And at the time,
- 16:57Speaker 1: there were rumours swirling around that it was brought in
- 16:59Speaker 1: to stop athletes having sex with each other and potentially
- 17:03Speaker 1: spreading COVID. But why would that stop them? I mean,
- 17:05Speaker 1: these are athletic people. They're probably not even having sex
- 17:09Speaker 1: in a normal bed. There's plenty of places around the
- 17:11Speaker 1: village that they could have sex. Well, this whole idea
- 17:13Speaker 1: of this being an anti-sex bed has already been debunked
- 17:16Speaker 1: thanks to TikTok. So multiple athletes, mainly divers, have jumped
- 17:20Speaker 1: onto the app and they've shared videos of themselves jumping
- 17:23Speaker 1: on the bed and somersaulting on it and doing flips
- 17:25Speaker 1: just to show that this cardboard bed is actually very sturdy.
- 17:29Speaker 1: It's so exciting that all of the athletes have TikTok
- 17:33Speaker 1: because we're going to be seeing such a different side
- 17:35Speaker 1: to the Olympic Games. We've already seen a couple of
- 17:37Speaker 1: the female athletes calling out their uniforms that they're wearing
- 17:41Speaker 1: to the ceremony. I'm going to touch more on that
- 17:43Speaker 1: on Tuesday's episode because it is fascinating. We've put up
- 17:47Speaker 1: a carousel going through some of the outfits throughout the
- 17:50Speaker 1: decades can't get over the 1984 uniform that athletes wore
- 17:57Speaker 1: to the LA Olympics. There is this yellow dress which
- 18:01Speaker 1: almost goes down to your ankles and it has like
- 18:04Speaker 1: koalas and kookaburras, all the Aussie animals all over it.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It is so garish. I actually thought it was satire
- 18:10Speaker 1: until I looked more into it and saw them actually
- 18:13Speaker 1: at the opening ceremony wearing them. It was like Kath
- 18:16Speaker 1: and Kim vibes. I disagree. I think it was very patriotic.
- 18:19Speaker 1: It was very patriotic, but it looked like something that
- 18:22Speaker 1: Kath and Kim would wear. Yeah, 100%. Well, just back
- 18:25Speaker 1: to the beds. The real reason behind the cardboard beds
- 18:28Speaker 1: is actually due to sustainability. So the organizers of the
- 18:32Speaker 1: Paris Olympics have promised to keep emissions for the Games
- 18:35Speaker 1: historically low. So that means the poor athletes are stuck
- 18:38Speaker 1: sleeping on these very uncomfortable beds. I don't get that, though.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Why even bother to have this poxy... cardboard bed frame,
- 18:45Speaker 1: just put the mattresses on the floor. If I was
- 18:47Speaker 1: an athlete, I just want to bring a blow up mattress.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I think you get a better night's sleep on that.
- 18:51Speaker 1: But on the topic of athletes hooking up at the Olympics,
- 18:54Speaker 1: there's a photo that has gone viral of tennis player
- 18:57Speaker 1: Carlos Alcaraz and the women's Dutch hockey team. I don't
- 19:01Speaker 1: know if you've seen it floating around, but to set
- 19:03Speaker 1: the scene, it shows the 21-year-old tennis superstar surrounded by
- 19:08Speaker 1: blonde fit female hockey players. And you can just imagine
- 19:11Speaker 1: what the comment section looks like. So former world number
- 19:14Speaker 1: seven tennis player, Marty Fish wrote, you ain't sly, Carlo.
- 19:18Speaker 1: While another follower added, cardboard beds don't worry the young king.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I'm curious, do the athletes actually have to stay in
- 19:26Speaker 1: the village or Can some of them try and get
- 19:29Speaker 1: an edge by booking out a really fancy hotel? Because
- 19:32Speaker 1: it doesn't sound comfortable staying in these beds or you
- 19:36Speaker 1: being kept awake because people are partying with girls. Yeah, well,
- 19:40Speaker 1: there are a lot of high profile players who choose
- 19:43Speaker 1: not to stay in the Olympic Village. Novak Djokovic is
- 19:45Speaker 1: one of those. But Alcarez said he wanted the true
- 19:48Speaker 1: Olympic Village experience. But the Olympic Village has a big reputation.
- 19:53Speaker 1: So in 2012, American Olympian Ryan Lodge told reporters that 70%
- 19:58Speaker 1: to 75% of Olympians are having sex in the Olympic Village.
- 20:03Speaker 1: And as a result, there have been 200,000 condoms brought
- 20:05Speaker 1: in to the Olympic Village in Paris for this year's Games.
- 20:11Speaker 1: So that equates to around 20 per athlete. That's why
- 20:15Speaker 1: it surprises me that Novak Djokovic doesn't want to stay
- 20:18Speaker 1: in the village because he broke up with his wife
- 20:20Speaker 1: in March. There were rumours that maybe there was some
- 20:24Speaker 1: cheating involved. Who knows? But I thought he might be
- 20:27Speaker 1: wanting that experience to go and meet some new ladies. Well,
- 20:29Speaker 1: I think the issue with Novak is he has never
- 20:32Speaker 1: won a gold medal. So I think he's taking it
- 20:34Speaker 1: pretty seriously this year. You can imagine you'd have quite
- 20:36Speaker 1: an edge actually sleeping on a proper bed as opposed
- 20:38Speaker 1: to the cardboard ones. Just to put the condom stat
- 20:42Speaker 1: into perspective, at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, They initially
- 20:48Speaker 1: ran out of condoms. So they had 70,000 to begin with,
- 20:51Speaker 1: and they had to go and order another 20,000. But
- 20:54Speaker 1: the Olympic Games that had the most condoms available was
- 20:58Speaker 1: the 2016 Rio Olympics. They had 450,000. Surely there's a
- 21:04Speaker 1: condom brand that is getting a sponsorship deal out of this,
- 21:06Speaker 1: like the official provider of the Olympic Games. I mean,
- 21:10Speaker 1: you're going to be having some pretty athletic children if
- 21:13Speaker 1: one gets through. Everyone in my comments is asking me
- 21:16Speaker 1: what kind of perm I got this time.
- 21:17Speaker 2: So here's what you got to do to get your
- 21:19Speaker 2: hair to look like what mine does right now.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Move over mullets. There's a new Gen Z hair trend
- 21:24Speaker 1: taking over TikTok. It's called the man perm. Have you
- 21:28Speaker 1: seen this, Sophie? This hasn't infiltrated my TikTok feed yet,
- 21:32Speaker 1: but I always remember growing up, my Nana would say
- 21:35Speaker 1: that she loved men with curly hair. Curly tops. Curly tops.
- 21:39Speaker 1: So she would be all for this trend. Well, the
- 21:40Speaker 1: best way to describe this new look is The fuck
- 21:43Speaker 1: boy broccoli cut or other people are calling it the
- 21:48Speaker 1: Zuma perm. So the best thing about this trend is
- 21:52Speaker 1: seeing all of the TikTok boys sitting at the hairdressers
- 21:55Speaker 1: looking like grannies with curlers in their hair. Why is
- 21:57Speaker 1: it the Zuma trend? Because they're Gen Zers. So what?
- 22:02Speaker 1: These 20 year old guys are actually going to the
- 22:04Speaker 1: hairdressers and asking for perms. Yeah. So they're having to
- 22:07Speaker 1: sit there with all the chemicals in their hair. They've
- 22:10Speaker 1: got the full on curlers and the dryer thing around it.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I don't want to shame anyone because I think that
- 22:15Speaker 1: it's great when people do take care of their appearance.
- 22:18Speaker 1: But I mean, I'm seeing everywhere. This is what's infiltrating
- 22:21Speaker 1: my TikTok feed is women with hair rollers in, not men.
- 22:25Speaker 1: But I mean, maybe I'm going to have to tell
- 22:26Speaker 1: my husband about this because he has pin straight hair.
- 22:30Speaker 1: All of the hairdressers he goes to comment about how
- 22:33Speaker 1: straight it is. They can't get any sort of curl
- 22:35Speaker 1: or anything. He's not particularly lucky right now because they're
- 22:38Speaker 1: saying that the perm has hit fever pitch. And this
- 22:42Speaker 1: is because a photo showing the new Superman, David Coren Sweat,
- 22:46Speaker 1: aka Clark Kent, rocking a perm in the movie. Are
- 22:50Speaker 1: you a fan of the perm? Should we get Dale
- 22:52Speaker 1: to get one done? Look, I think some of the
- 22:54Speaker 1: TikTok guys are definitely pulling it off, but I'm not
- 22:57Speaker 1: really a huge fan of curls on guys. A former
- 23:00Speaker 1: colleague of mine actually used to get perms all the
- 23:02Speaker 1: time in the 80s and he said it's the reason
- 23:05Speaker 1: that he's gone thin on top. So I wonder what
- 23:08Speaker 1: effect this is going to have for the Gen Zers.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Now let's get into our best and worst of the week.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Now to be honest, Sophie and I were laughing before
- 23:16Speaker 1: because we're struggling to come up with the best because
- 23:19Speaker 1: we feel like we've been working like dogs. It's been
- 23:21Speaker 1: a very busy time at the moment. We're very, very
- 23:24Speaker 1: burnt out and I think I need a holiday. Like
- 23:27Speaker 1: I told everyone I'm planning my– honeymoon and thank you
- 23:30Speaker 1: so much for those who have sent in suggestions for
- 23:33Speaker 1: Fiji Fiji is very expensive yeah I am I'm looking
- 23:37Speaker 1: around after my comments on Bali I'm probably not going
- 23:40Speaker 1: to Bali do you know what it is we're saying
- 23:41Speaker 1: we're burnt out I think it's this time of year
- 23:43Speaker 1: I was talking about to some friends of mine everyone
- 23:46Speaker 1: was saying they just feel like it's cold it's miserable
- 23:50Speaker 1: I think this is the period where you just put
- 23:51Speaker 1: your head down and you get into your work I'm
- 23:54Speaker 1: ready for daylight savings I'm just over it like my
- 23:56Speaker 1: partner and I keep sending messages being like over it
- 23:59Speaker 1: can't stand this anymore. There's only one so many fires
- 24:02Speaker 1: that you can have to roast marshmallows and enjoy. Now
- 24:04Speaker 1: I'm going to start with my low of the week
- 24:06Speaker 1: because that springs to mind faster than my high. And
- 24:09Speaker 1: my low of the week was I was on a
- 24:11Speaker 1: dog walk and I was on the phone to you actually, Amy,
- 24:14Speaker 1: and my dog Archie, he pulled me to go onto
- 24:16Speaker 1: this front verge and I'm walking along. All of a
- 24:19Speaker 1: sudden I am hit in the face by a tree stump,
- 24:23Speaker 1: like a tree branch. It almost knocked me out. I
- 24:29Speaker 1: didn't see it. It was this low hanging, very thick branch.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I have a bruise on my head. I almost saw stars.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Like I'm like, I need to get Neuroflex. We work
- 24:39Speaker 1: with a concussion management technology called Neuroflex. I need to
- 24:41Speaker 1: get Neuroflex because I don't know if I've been concussed
- 24:44Speaker 1: or if that's adding to my woes of this week,
- 24:46Speaker 1: but that was definitely my low. I can't help but
- 24:48Speaker 1: laugh because when I was talking to you, like, ow
- 24:51Speaker 1: and I was like what has gone on you're like
- 24:53Speaker 1: I've just walked into a tree and I'm like were
- 24:55Speaker 1: you not looking forward like were you so into the
- 24:58Speaker 1: conversation but you went to my husband why do these
- 25:00Speaker 1: things always happen to me like this sort of shit
- 25:03Speaker 1: follows me around that's definitely so what's your high then
- 25:07Speaker 1: my high of the week is that My new shower
- 25:12Speaker 1: taps arrived. Is that what they're called? Tell me you're
- 25:15Speaker 1: in your 30s without telling me you're in your 30s.
- 25:17Speaker 1: My husband organized them. We have the most dodgy shower
- 25:20Speaker 1: at the moment. He always knocks his head on it.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Look at us. We're just, you know, accident prone.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Riveting.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Yeah. So we've got this cool new gold shower head
- 25:29Speaker 1: and taps that we've got to put into the bathroom.
- 25:30Speaker 1: We're trying to do slowly renovate and also... My in-laws
- 25:36Speaker 1: who are absolute legends, they have just finished our second shed,
- 25:39Speaker 1: which is in our outside area. So we can finally
- 25:42Speaker 1: move all of the crap that is sitting in my
- 25:45Speaker 1: office into the shed. You're going to have to share
- 25:47Speaker 1: some of your transformations because you and Brandon have done
- 25:49Speaker 1: such a good job. Like you've got this little outdoor
- 25:52Speaker 1: area that you've managed to transform. It looks very Pinterest. Oh,
- 25:55Speaker 1: you've given me an opportunity to plug. We're trying to
- 25:58Speaker 1: start up an Instagram, one of those house reno Instagram.
- 26:01Speaker 1: So it's called Our Golden Hills house, we have one
- 26:04Speaker 1: post currently on there at the moment, but Brandon is
- 26:07Speaker 1: a videographer. So he's slowly working in the background, trying
- 26:10Speaker 1: to do some before and after stuff that we can share.
- 26:12Speaker 1: But if you're living in an old house and you're
- 26:14Speaker 1: doing it up, it might be fun to follow along.
- 26:17Speaker 1: What's it called again? It's called Golden underscore Hills underscore house. Now,
- 26:22Speaker 1: my low of the week has just been how disgusting
- 26:24Speaker 1: my bedtimes have gotten. Like I am going to bed
- 26:27Speaker 1: later and later each week. And it's due to just
- 26:29Speaker 1: staying up late and doing work, which is so boring.
- 26:32Speaker 1: We run two businesses and it's been really hard because
- 26:35Speaker 1: with Kate on maternity leave, we're one person down for
- 26:38Speaker 1: the podcast and yeah, it's not been fun.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:42Speaker 1: And Kate likes to pay me out because I like
- 26:43Speaker 1: to track my sleep on my Apple watch. And it
- 26:46Speaker 1: has been quite depressing to look at those figures, but
- 26:48Speaker 1: my high would be getting my wedding video back. Finally,
- 26:52Speaker 1: it's been six months and It really portrayed the day well,
- 26:56Speaker 1: like as in, so if you were complaining, well, not complaining,
- 26:59Speaker 1: but you were saying how you were kind of embarrassed
- 27:00Speaker 1: to show people your wedding video because it just featured
- 27:03Speaker 1: a lot of Brandon crying. It is like, I have
- 27:06Speaker 1: to say the videographer, she's an absolute pro. Oh, it's stunning.
- 27:11Speaker 1: It's a stunning video. Like it's very like movie-esque. Oh,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I really wanted her as for my video. But I said,
- 27:18Speaker 1: it's not like a video that you can watch over
- 27:19Speaker 1: and over again. Like it's sort of like it, you know,
- 27:22Speaker 1: I didn't think that I'd be this person to have
- 27:23Speaker 1: this emotional video because I didn't show emotion, whereas Brandon
- 27:26Speaker 1: cried the whole time. But with you, yours is like
- 27:29Speaker 1: a really nice, like 11 minute run through of all
- 27:31Speaker 1: the highs of the day. Yeah. He did a really
- 27:34Speaker 1: good job snapshotting that. One thing I've realized is how
- 27:36Speaker 1: embarrassing it is actually to show people your wedding video.
- 27:39Speaker 1: So like for you guys, I didn't really care that much,
- 27:42Speaker 1: but we had Dale's poppy and also his mom over
- 27:46Speaker 1: to watch it. And you know, kind of, you just
- 27:48Speaker 1: feel embarrassed. Like you're talking about your feelings on this
- 27:51Speaker 1: you know, it's been shown on the TV. It was
- 27:53Speaker 1: just a bit awkward. Yeah. Cause I'm waiting still to
- 27:56Speaker 1: get my full video back. So I've got a bit
- 27:58Speaker 1: of a highlight reel and I just came to the
- 28:02Speaker 1: decision that I felt like it was almost too intimate
- 28:05Speaker 1: to share on socials. Like, I mean, I might put
- 28:07Speaker 1: it on Facebook or something, but yeah, I mean, I
- 28:10Speaker 1: might get sent more of an upbeat highlight reel, but
- 28:13Speaker 1: I think my partner was like, please don't share that.
- 28:15Speaker 1: It's so embarrassing. I'm crying. I want to hear about
- 28:17Speaker 1: other people's wedding videos. Did you share it on Facebook?
- 28:20Speaker 1: My cousin was asking me the other day, he's like,
- 28:22Speaker 1: so what was the purpose of the video? Is it
- 28:24Speaker 1: to share? And I'm like, well, it's kind of to
- 28:26Speaker 1: look back on each year. Yeah. I'm so happy that
- 28:29Speaker 1: we both got a video because it's going to be
- 28:31Speaker 1: amazing to look back on and be able to show
- 28:33Speaker 1: your kids. Well, I think that is all we have
- 28:36Speaker 1: time for today. Thank you so much for joining us. Apologies.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Our subs episode has been put out a little bit later,
- 28:42Speaker 1: but go and check it out. It is in the
- 28:44Speaker 1: feed now. It's all about hens parties. And a big
- 28:48Speaker 1: thank you to everyone who joined in on Instagram. We
- 28:51Speaker 1: put up a few polls. We got a few opinions
- 28:53Speaker 1: on different hens related topics. I feel like I've been
- 28:56Speaker 1: a bit of a counselor for some people who I've
- 28:58Speaker 1: responded to because I'm feeling for them. It is really
- 29:00Speaker 1: tough when you're dealing with a bridezilla and It's not
- 29:04Speaker 1: a fun time being a bridesmaid or a maid of
- 29:06Speaker 1: honour sometimes. No, it's not. But don't forget, you can
- 29:09Speaker 1: follow us on Instagram and TikTok and also on Facebook
- 29:12Speaker 1: at Outspoken underscore the underscore podcast. Don't forget to go
- 29:16Speaker 1: and follow Sophie's house page that she's subtly dropped before.
- 29:19Speaker 1: And you can also follow Sophie and I on Instagram
- 29:22Speaker 1: as well. This episode was recorded on the traditional land
- 29:26Speaker 1: of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. We pay
- 29:28Speaker 1: respect to elders past and present.
