- 0:06Speaker 1: All right, fresh batch of the eleven AM Hour coming
- 0:09Speaker 1: at you, hot and heavy. Mike Betton in for Greg Bell.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Greg's off today, back in tomorrow. Christopher Kidd on the
- 0:16Speaker 1: other side of the glass of thing just changed his
- 0:18Speaker 1: shirt to New York Knicks colors.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Do I have that right?
- 0:22Speaker 1: I can't see behind your at your screen's back there?
- 0:26Speaker 1: You know I haven't.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I'm just happy it should be a fun NBA Finals,
- 0:31Speaker 3: regardless of which team makes it. I know a lot
- 0:33Speaker 3: of Sonic fans out here, like Chris, are you kidding me?
- 0:35Speaker 3: The last thing they want to see is okay, see,
- 0:37Speaker 3: but I'm looking for an entertaining, competitive NBA Finals, and
- 0:42Speaker 3: I think either team coming out of the West will
- 0:44Speaker 3: do just that.
- 0:46Speaker 1: That's a great PC answer. Now stand up here. No,
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm going to see. If you change your shirt and yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 1: let me stand up for you. You might not be
- 0:52Speaker 1: able to see because I'm so short. Hang on, Oh
- 0:56Speaker 1: you're cheating how much you can't see under your jacket?
- 0:59Speaker 2: Now? Oh you want me to take the jacket off?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Time.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I don't care about that. It's a little chill.
- 1:03Speaker 4: I try.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm trying to give you a hard time, that's all.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Trying to give you a hard time. All of a sudden,
- 1:07Speaker 1: you're a next fan. But hey, who can blame you?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Not a Knicks fan. I'm just a for at least
- 1:11Speaker 1: two weeks. You're on rental. You're right, No, I're alone.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I'm an NBA supporter and I'm excited to see this
- 1:19Speaker 3: next team, because again, this is a team that has
- 1:22Speaker 3: been just laughed at. This a laughing, a laughing stack
- 1:26Speaker 3: of the stock of the league. Right, it was Detroit Pistons.
- 1:28Speaker 3: But look what they've done. They've revamped and redone everything.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Obviously they didn't get to where they wanted to do
- 1:33Speaker 3: this season, but the Knicks were that team for years,
- 1:37Speaker 3: and now they're like, oh my gosh, we have a chance.
- 1:40Speaker 3: If we win, we are NBA champions.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Who liked them outside of New York back in the
- 1:45Speaker 1: nineties when they had Patrick Ewing, John Starks, everyone.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Charles Chicago Bulls fans.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I mean, you're you're You're away from the big stage
- 1:54Speaker 1: for this long. All of a sudden, you're a darling.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you're a darling. I mean, who do you
- 1:59Speaker 1: are you?
- 2:00Speaker 3: I see the Knicks back in the heck yeah, heck yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 3: It's just I think it's pageantry. It's it's cool to see. Yeah,
- 2:05Speaker 3: I'm with it. Next thing, you know, I said so
- 2:08Speaker 3: on these airways.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So John Foreslyn last week was doing the Carolina Montreal
- 2:12Speaker 1: series on radio for the Stanley Cup Western or Eastern
- 2:14Speaker 1: Conference side. I mean, go into a game at Bell
- 2:17Speaker 1: Center in Montreal, tradition, history, pageantry, how boisterous that fan
- 2:24Speaker 1: base is. It's just like playoff basketball at MSG. And
- 2:27Speaker 1: it's going to be unhinged in the finals. Okay, it's
- 2:32Speaker 1: going to be unhinged in a good way.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Hinged.
- 2:35Speaker 3: I say that in a good way. There's not a
- 2:37Speaker 3: bad way, is there?
- 2:38Speaker 2: No? No, I think, yeah, you're good.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Although you know the city did try to permit or
- 2:42Speaker 1: did try to stop and say no, you can't celebrate outside.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And we've had too much celebration. You know, it's getting
- 2:47Speaker 1: to be a bit over the top when in New
- 2:50Speaker 1: York they say you parted at a little too hard
- 2:53Speaker 1: to just go back home and watch in your apartment
- 2:56Speaker 1: or suburbs and Yonkers or wherever.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So who's coming out, who's winning, Who's going to the
- 3:01Speaker 3: finals for hockey?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Vegas?
- 3:04Speaker 1: I said this already, Vegas is gonna win the Western
- 3:10Speaker 1: Conference side, I would sew back the Montreal train into
- 3:15Speaker 1: the finals. I think after last night it left me
- 3:19Speaker 1: with a tinge of doubt. I don't think it's gonna happen.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I think Carolina is starting to really find their rhythm.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It's gonna be Carolina.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Oh so we have Carolina and the Knights.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Recall this trying to draw like a comparison. You do that,
- 3:37Speaker 1: but I we have toime to think about that. Think
- 3:40Speaker 1: about that on Vegas.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I like that.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Okay, Mariners last night winning nine to two, and again
- 3:45Speaker 1: we're gonna get to your text messages. You're in a
- 3:47Speaker 1: bit because we're kind of doing this showing reverse formatt
- 3:51Speaker 1: up a bit upside down. John Oler is going to
- 3:53Speaker 1: be joining us from the Western Conference Final at eleven
- 3:55Speaker 1: thirty in Vegas. Four nine, four or five one. We're
- 3:58Speaker 1: gonna get back here. It's a little more Mayre after
- 4:01Speaker 1: last evening where nine too, the win said a lot
- 4:06Speaker 1: about the state of the offense. We had been asking
- 4:10Speaker 1: for many more guys besides Randy to show up, and
- 4:15Speaker 1: did they ever show up in explicit fashion With the Bats,
- 4:20Speaker 1: you can say maybe it was a wind thing, Maybe
- 4:22Speaker 1: it was facing a ridy who was arm was about
- 4:26Speaker 1: to fall off, and he.
- 4:27Speaker 2: May be going here to the il.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But for as many series as they had been through
- 4:34Speaker 1: and laid an egg falling flat on their face last
- 4:39Speaker 1: night was a bit of a palate cleanser. Now this
- 4:43Speaker 1: is again the issue with this Mariner team. You want
- 4:46Speaker 1: to move on from the palate cleansers onto more consistency.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And here's maybe I think two past day take. Yes,
- 4:55Speaker 1: you have an easy schedule. We said this last week,
- 4:59Speaker 1: twenty seventh best, twenty seventh, easiest in baseball at this point,
- 5:04Speaker 1: because I go back and look, they have thirty one
- 5:09Speaker 1: games left in this schedule against the Rockies, the Tigers,
- 5:15Speaker 1: the Giants, the Mets who have been incredibly disappointing, the
- 5:20Speaker 1: Red Sox who have been a tire fire. They have
- 5:23Speaker 1: six against them, and then the Angels who have been
- 5:26Speaker 1: just miserable, and they have ten against them. But yet
- 5:30Speaker 1: they faced a Royal team that was playing well beneath
- 5:33Speaker 1: the bar last weekend and with the exception of Friday,
- 5:37Speaker 1: for an underwhelming too nothing win really got at some
- 5:42Speaker 1: points disappointed to even humiliate it. Oh and Sunday was
- 5:47Speaker 1: just the absolute low point. Despite a great start. You
- 5:52Speaker 1: have JP fumbling the bag right back at shortstop, pitching,
- 5:57Speaker 1: falling apart defensively, base running issues, every thing, and a
- 6:00Speaker 1: lot of the issues seem to kind of go away
- 6:02Speaker 1: last night in a new situation and in a big
- 6:06Speaker 1: series as well. But how much did that win alleviate
- 6:09Speaker 1: your concerns? Four nine four five one, Because we begin here,
- 6:13Speaker 1: of course with the obvious big elephant in the room
- 6:16Speaker 1: once again, this whole piggyback situation, and you had Luis
- 6:21Speaker 1: Castillo throwing a glove in disgust when he found out
- 6:26Speaker 1: at the end of the fourth inning he was getting pulled,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and from what we saw a visibly uncomfortable conversation with
- 6:34Speaker 1: Dan Wilson on the bench in the dugout after that.
- 6:39Speaker 1: He is a starting pitcher. Starting pitchers are trained to
- 6:42Speaker 1: empty the tank and this is becoming a very uncomfortable
- 6:47Speaker 1: situation which could easily be avoided, Ryan Heally, and again, folks,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I encourage you to go back listen to Chuck and
- 6:55Speaker 1: Buck from this morning. Ryan Heally was a great back
- 6:57Speaker 1: at the nine am hour saying that they're just kind
- 7:01Speaker 1: of paraphrasing this. It appears to be a communication breakdown,
- 7:07Speaker 1: just based on the fact of where Luis Castillo is
- 7:09Speaker 1: right now, if he's told directly you're gonna go to
- 7:12Speaker 1: the bullpen, maybe he doesn't emit as big a reaction
- 7:17Speaker 1: as he had. But a lot of the tea leaves
- 7:23Speaker 1: a lot of the arrows on the board, pointing here
- 7:25Speaker 1: to the fact that he was pretty surprised that this
- 7:27Speaker 1: was happening. So again we had Bryce Miller do this.
- 7:32Speaker 1: In game one, Luis Castillo piggybacks off of him. Game
- 7:38Speaker 1: two we have Castillo who goes out and the question
- 7:42Speaker 1: bears is this going to work? And give him credit,
- 7:45Speaker 1: he was fantastic, but you can only see so much
- 7:48Speaker 1: it seems to be out of Luis Castillo before you
- 7:52Speaker 1: go to Bryce Miller. And then Bryce Miller was not
- 7:55Speaker 1: too hot to trot about the idea post game. We
- 7:58Speaker 1: played the comments last hour with him and Brad Adam,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and I'll have Chris Kid tea this right back up
- 8:03Speaker 1: once again, because we can only tell you so much
- 8:06Speaker 1: how uncomfortable this is. But Brad Adam once again, who
- 8:10Speaker 1: was fantastic, I just going right at the issue. And
- 8:13Speaker 1: Bryce Miller, who I can say firsthand is one of
- 8:17Speaker 1: the most genuine, care free, fair individuals and friendly individuals
- 8:23Speaker 1: in that clubhouse, and as transparent and open as it gets.
- 8:27Speaker 2: He said it right here.
- 8:29Speaker 1: As far as how this is play now through not
- 8:32Speaker 1: just one but two games, because one's an accident and
- 8:36Speaker 1: two is a trend. So you tell me where this
- 8:39Speaker 1: is trending based on Bryce Miller. Here he is with
- 8:42Speaker 1: Brad Adam.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Now the second guy the second time.
- 8:45Speaker 3: So is it getting more I guess comfortable now that
- 8:47Speaker 3: you've done both situations.
- 8:50Speaker 5: This setup's not very comfortable. But like I said, I mean,
- 8:54Speaker 5: at the end of the day, I get to come
- 8:55Speaker 5: out and pitch in the big leagues and something that
- 8:58Speaker 5: I've dreamed about in my whole life.
- 8:59Speaker 2: So would I rather start the game?
- 9:01Speaker 5: Yeah, But anytime I can be on the mount in
- 9:03Speaker 5: the big leagues, I'll be grateful for it.
- 9:05Speaker 1: It's one thing to say you have to be uncomfortable
- 9:08Speaker 1: with or be comfortable of being uncomfortable, but this is
- 9:11Speaker 1: a completely avoidable situation if you begin to have uncomfortable
- 9:16Speaker 1: conversations with guys who are placed in different situations and
- 9:20Speaker 1: better situations as well. And I point right back at
- 9:23Speaker 1: Luis Castillo because it appears that Bryce Miller is the
- 9:27Speaker 1: third best starter in this baseball team, and to put
- 9:30Speaker 1: him in this situation is bordering on malpractice. Louis Castillo
- 9:36Speaker 1: can be serviceable. We've seen how great hissed Uff has
- 9:40Speaker 1: been last two times. But there's got to be the
- 9:43Speaker 1: right situation to put him in. And the question bears
- 9:46Speaker 1: do you look at a six man rotation? Once again,
- 9:49Speaker 1: opinions may vary, but how long this piggyback situation goes for?
- 9:54Speaker 1: I don't see this being a long term thing, just
- 9:57Speaker 1: because Major League Baseball is not just about managing arms
- 10:02Speaker 1: or managing numbers. The right teams to do it know
- 10:06Speaker 1: how to manage personalities, and personalities are as strong as
- 10:12Speaker 1: they come in the biggest league in the entire world.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Not everyone can fit in the rotation. Sometimes you have
- 10:20Speaker 1: to have the hard conversations with the numbers game and say,
- 10:23Speaker 1: here's where you are best fit for this. As long
- 10:27Speaker 1: as you communicate that and your team is winning, you're
- 10:31Speaker 1: gonna find yourself in a pretty good position. So the
- 10:34Speaker 1: longer this goes, this is once again at risk and
- 10:38Speaker 1: in danger of tearing away at the morale of not
- 10:42Speaker 1: just one but two very very good pitchers in Bryce
- 10:47Speaker 1: Miller and the wist Castile. Shall we get to text here,
- 10:51Speaker 1: Chris Kid, you want to do that? I think we
- 10:54Speaker 1: should do that here to coma doadge text line. Let
- 10:59Speaker 1: me cue up the player coming in. It's not official
- 11:02Speaker 1: unless the music. Oh yeah, let's get into it. So
- 11:05Speaker 1: I lower my voice as well to try to match
- 11:08Speaker 1: the vibe.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Nah, you're good man.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Be loud, be loud when you read these messages. So
- 11:14Speaker 3: we want to make sure the audience is getting their
- 11:18Speaker 3: their love for the day.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Four nine, four or five one Sakomadajs text line from
- 11:23Speaker 1: the two OHO six Marcus. I haven't had any concerns
- 11:26Speaker 1: and still don't. I think the piggyback is great, but
- 11:29Speaker 1: I feel like they're keeping to a script and not
- 11:32Speaker 1: letting the game decide what to do.
- 11:34Speaker 2: The rock should have pitched the fifth inning, all right.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I think Luke Arkins had a great point last hour
- 11:41Speaker 1: where if you if you have him face third time
- 11:43Speaker 1: through the order, that becomes a concern because it shows
- 11:47Speaker 1: that again right now, Luis Castillo. Stuff is good early,
- 11:52Speaker 1: but it's best to mitigate potential damage. This is what
- 11:55Speaker 1: baseball is all about. He's not going to get the win,
- 11:58Speaker 1: or maybe not going to be in line get the win,
- 12:00Speaker 1: but it is a team win. So but yet I
- 12:03Speaker 1: think it goes to a deeper point. How much more
- 12:07Speaker 1: are the day to day workings of this team managed
- 12:09Speaker 1: by just a pure script and not by feel and
- 12:12Speaker 1: not by gut. That think, to me is a bigger
- 12:16Speaker 1: issue also to be discussed down the road. As we're
- 12:18Speaker 1: about one third here through this baseball season, which you
- 12:20Speaker 1: got Chris.
- 12:22Speaker 3: From the two oh six. Do you trust Dan Wilson
- 12:25Speaker 3: to win in the playoffs? I personally do not. All right,
- 12:30Speaker 3: I would say yes, I do trust Dan Wilson to
- 12:33Speaker 3: win the playoffs. He's proven it to you, right.
- 12:35Speaker 2: He's proven it to me.
- 12:37Speaker 1: He's proven from this point he had a sixty home
- 12:40Speaker 1: run bat in cal Rawley.
- 12:42Speaker 2: H he had a Haneo Suarez. Yeah, I mean, I
- 12:44Speaker 2: get it.
- 12:44Speaker 1: He's stunk mostly and he had his golden moment as
- 12:47Speaker 1: well in the ALCS. But he was also writing a
- 12:51Speaker 1: hot whore heete Polonco.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Again.
- 12:54Speaker 1: It leads me here to if you don't have players
- 12:59Speaker 1: who are going to be writing not just all star
- 13:02Speaker 1: but historical numbers like cal Rawley, how much can your
- 13:07Speaker 1: managerial influence in pushing the right buttons via a team
- 13:13Speaker 1: to continued course and not veer them off course. We've
- 13:17Speaker 1: seen how great Bruce Bochi is one example of pushing
- 13:21Speaker 1: the right buttons, managing not one, not two, but really
- 13:26Speaker 1: three giants teams that maybe had no business in going
- 13:31Speaker 1: past the nlds, but they got three World titles in
- 13:36Speaker 1: five years. I use the Dodgers analogy here with Dave Roberts,
- 13:40Speaker 1: a manager who came in and what has now become
- 13:44Speaker 1: an analytically driven front office in Los Angeles, but.
- 13:47Speaker 2: They do it well.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Dave Roberts, though, took a lot of heat and well
- 13:51Speaker 1: deserved in his first few years of going by script
- 13:56Speaker 1: way too much. He had a guy, for instance, in
- 13:59Speaker 1: reach Chill back in the twenty eighteen World Series, was rolling.
- 14:03Speaker 1: He yanked him off the mound. Analytics said, at don't
- 14:07Speaker 1: do it, don't do it. I think it's pretty clear cut.
- 14:11Speaker 1: He has evolved after he put a guy at the
- 14:14Speaker 1: plate in Game seven against Jeff Hoffman and Miguel Rojas
- 14:19Speaker 1: who hadn't had a hit in a month, and then
- 14:21Speaker 1: delivered a Dave Henderson like knockout blow in the World
- 14:26Speaker 1: Series and then pave the way for their third ring
- 14:30Speaker 1: in this decade. That is evolving and learning how to
- 14:33Speaker 1: manage with your gut. This is where I think Dan
- 14:35Speaker 1: Wilson has to evolve. He's a great clubhouse guy, we
- 14:39Speaker 1: get it. But where is clubhouse morale right now? And
- 14:42Speaker 1: where is it gonna get you?
- 14:43Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Because as of right now, there's a lot of moving
- 14:47Speaker 1: parts that he's got to manage with this team, not
- 14:51Speaker 1: just this whole situation project oink, but trying to man
- 14:56Speaker 1: his left handed pitching, the platoon situation. How often do
- 15:01Speaker 1: you want to rip your hair out when you see
- 15:04Speaker 1: a pin hitter, you know, replacing Luke Rayley and Rob
- 15:08Speaker 1: Revschneider and goes not one, not two, but three whips,
- 15:12Speaker 1: see you later, good night, inning over. I mean, at
- 15:15Speaker 1: this point it's driving Mariners fans nuts. And this is
- 15:18Speaker 1: where Dan Wilson I think, has to grow in learning
- 15:23Speaker 1: how to manage situations where things aren't rolling one hundred
- 15:28Speaker 1: percent his way like they were last year. And I
- 15:31Speaker 1: think we saw in Game seven where when the situations
- 15:34Speaker 1: get tough and you're having to manage Ryan Wu Edward
- 15:38Speaker 1: Bizardo as one example, we saw what happened.
- 15:42Speaker 2: This is where he has to grow. Got another one there,
- 15:46Speaker 2: got a few minutes.
- 15:47Speaker 3: I think absolutely from the three six so I understand
- 15:52Speaker 3: the piggyback, but I don't like it, and obviously neither
- 15:56Speaker 3: do the players. Management needs to grow a set and
- 16:00Speaker 3: move Castello to the pin full time. He's better in
- 16:02Speaker 3: shirt spurts at this point in his career. Move him
- 16:06Speaker 3: and let him get adjusted to the role. Now Kate
- 16:08Speaker 3: Anderson is ready to come up and step in if
- 16:11Speaker 3: they haven't injury to another starter. Rip the band aid
- 16:14Speaker 3: off when it comes to su and here Mason.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Hit the nail on the head.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Nail on the head, because good teams have to go
- 16:24Speaker 1: through uncomfortable conversations and address them appropriately. Piggyback situation Project
- 16:31Speaker 1: doink one bad pig is one example. Now we're getting
- 16:36Speaker 1: to another of what do you do with Kate Anderson
- 16:38Speaker 1: who was absolutely ripping apart hitters in the minor leagues
- 16:44Speaker 1: and could be on this baseball team next year, if
- 16:47Speaker 1: not by the end of this year, should be really
- 16:49Speaker 1: into Cooma by July, because what do you do? Let
- 16:53Speaker 1: you may ask, last night, four in a two thirds
- 16:58Speaker 1: or four and two thirds in three hits, zero runs,
- 17:02Speaker 1: two walks, seven strikeouts. You know those seven strikeouts among
- 17:08Speaker 1: them seventy five pitches, fifty one strikes, thirteen whips lowering
- 17:15Speaker 1: is ere two drum roll one point six y three?
- 17:23Speaker 1: Would you love Kate Anderson on this baseball team soon?
- 17:27Speaker 1: In this rotation?
- 17:29Speaker 2: And I ain't.
- 17:29Speaker 1: The question bears the more he keeps rolling out numbers
- 17:33Speaker 1: like these. I mean, it's already like trying to stuff
- 17:37Speaker 1: six pitchers into a five man phone booth here at
- 17:40Speaker 1: this point with the situation. But now one's Kate Anderson's ready,
- 17:44Speaker 1: what do you do after that? I don't think piggyback
- 17:48Speaker 1: two of two is going to be well received here
- 17:51Speaker 1: in this town, and definitely not by this pitching staff.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Whatsen leads us here, is it time to deal a
- 17:57Speaker 1: pitcher who won't resign with this team down the road?
- 18:00Speaker 1: And You're you're gonna have to have a hard conversation
- 18:03Speaker 1: with somebody like say Logan Gilbert or like George Kirby,
- 18:07Speaker 1: because you've got to find a way to fit in
- 18:09Speaker 1: Cad Anderson.
- 18:11Speaker 2: What's next? Chris?
- 18:13Speaker 3: All right, m let's see last one because I know
- 18:16Speaker 3: we're up again. Stick, Yes, Okay, here we go. Dan
- 18:20Speaker 3: Wilson's letter grade is I incompetent. He is over his
- 18:24Speaker 3: damn head. He is a puppet for this organization, James
- 18:28Speaker 3: for the three to six. Oh some tough tough comments there.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Yikes.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Remember what we were talking about when Dan Wilson was
- 18:34Speaker 1: hired and Scott's servis was out, and that they had
- 18:37Speaker 1: to have a bit of a change in direction, not
- 18:39Speaker 1: just for you know, the offense, but for the clubhouse. Well,
- 18:41Speaker 1: I mean, dan Wilson gave them the clubhouse feel. But
- 18:44Speaker 1: I just think that this would be less of a
- 18:45Speaker 1: concern if Dan Wilson wasn't named the full time manager
- 18:52Speaker 1: right after this whole move was being made. There was
- 18:54Speaker 1: no vetting apparently in this there was no interim tag.
- 18:57Speaker 2: It was just say here's the job.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And yet, yeah, we see an ALCS appearance eight ounce
- 19:05Speaker 1: away last year, but again, so much was going right
- 19:10Speaker 1: with cal Rawley, with this pitching staff that got him
- 19:14Speaker 1: that close. And again we're thinking going into the postseason,
- 19:18Speaker 1: when you've got to match wits against some of the
- 19:20Speaker 1: game's most seasoned minds, how's this going to play out?
- 19:25Speaker 1: We saw what happened and eventually Dan Wilson just stumbled
- 19:31Speaker 1: by Game seven. This is going again calling a lot
- 19:35Speaker 1: as far as how he's going to turn this around
- 19:37Speaker 1: after we saw just a calamity of Aris Chris from
- 19:41Speaker 1: this last week. And I go back to how, you know,
- 19:44Speaker 1: Dan Wilson tried to come out and make a pitching
- 19:46Speaker 1: change at the end of this piggyback situation night number one,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and the Empire said go back. I know it wasn't
- 19:54Speaker 1: big in the whole scheme of things, but it was
- 19:57Speaker 1: just bad bad optics, bad optics. And then I go
- 20:00Speaker 1: to even you know, Josh Naylor not having his batting
- 20:03Speaker 1: gloves ready after the Mariners went through a big inning
- 20:06Speaker 1: or was it Julio, I believe, and they admit that
- 20:09Speaker 1: they weren't ready and they just lost track. I mean,
- 20:11Speaker 1: you've got to have your gears and order on that
- 20:14Speaker 1: bench and get guys ready. I've seen players at ten
- 20:17Speaker 1: and eleven you get ripped at from their coaches for
- 20:20Speaker 1: not being ready. And this happens at the major league level.
- 20:23Speaker 1: So yeah, it is a concern right now. It is
- 20:26Speaker 1: a concern for sure. Stanley Cup playoffs again are rolling
- 20:30Speaker 1: here with the Western Conference Final. Vegas take it on
- 20:33Speaker 1: Colorado for Game three. Is this series over? Vegas is
- 20:37Speaker 1: out to a three game, two nothing lead. How does
- 20:41Speaker 1: Colorado get back in this year even with two of
- 20:43Speaker 1: their superstars Leak and Oil.
- 20:45Speaker 2: John Allers has the Collea's had the call.
- 20:47Speaker 1: On our am station, by the way, but he'll join
- 20:50Speaker 1: us next year from the site of Game four going
- 20:52Speaker 1: down tonight in Vegas, Avalanche and Golden Knights. John Allers
- 20:57Speaker 1: up next on ninety three three kJ ARAPM.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Well, it appears that season's come and go. Players come and.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Go, the teams that make deep runs. The Vegas Golden
- 21:12Speaker 1: Knights do not come and go. And here they are
- 21:15Speaker 1: one win away once again from the Stanley Cup Final
- 21:19Speaker 1: after just what was just an unbelievably bonkers Pacific Division
- 21:25Speaker 1: and opener for the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Golden Knights
- 21:27Speaker 1: emerging once again with John Tortorella, who took that job
- 21:31Speaker 1: just eight games left in the regular season. Mike Benton
- 21:35Speaker 1: again filling in for Greg Bell this morning, the guy
- 21:38Speaker 1: calling this series again via our sister station and all
- 21:41Speaker 1: across the nation on Sports USA. His name is the
- 21:44Speaker 1: great John Allers again joining us right now with the
- 21:46Speaker 1: Beacon Plumbing hotline calling the play by a place side tonight,
- 21:49Speaker 1: Game four Western Conference Final. Vegas can sweep if they
- 21:53Speaker 1: beat the avalanche coverage opening up at four point thirty
- 21:56Speaker 1: again on KJR AM locally. John joining us right now, John, Hi,
- 22:01Speaker 1: Happy good morning to you, Happy Tuesday to you. And
- 22:04Speaker 1: I never tried this here, but I heard that the
- 22:06Speaker 1: slots run his high is about ten grand over at
- 22:08Speaker 1: Caesar's Palace out in Vegas. You being a high roller yourself,
- 22:12Speaker 1: you can confirm that right.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Well, I walked right through Caesars and in front of
- 22:18Speaker 4: it yesterday. That's as close as I came to the slot.
- 22:21Speaker 1: So we can keep guessing and guessing here. Well, I
- 22:23Speaker 1: mean one way, I don't guess about where the series
- 22:25Speaker 1: is going. John, And again I appreciate you joining us here.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Is that I mean Vegas. Once they get this deep
- 22:31Speaker 1: into the postseason, they just look like an eighteen wheeler
- 22:35Speaker 1: going down with no breaks. It doesn't matter who's coaching
- 22:38Speaker 1: this team. And I mean if Kale mccar.
- 22:42Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Mike, I'm having problems hearing yet.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Okay, do you hear us? Now?
- 22:47Speaker 4: I got you now?
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I got you now.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Okay, A little bit of gremlin's here being worked out
- 22:51Speaker 1: of the machine here as John Aller is joining us,
- 22:53Speaker 1: and John, I'll just I'll kind of start this silver
- 22:55Speaker 1: once again with you. I mean, the way that I
- 22:56Speaker 1: look at this here is that with Vegas, once they
- 22:59Speaker 1: get this deep into the postseason, it doesn't matter what
- 23:02Speaker 1: coach they have, they just look like an eighteen wheeler
- 23:06Speaker 1: going downhill.
- 23:07Speaker 2: With no breaks.
- 23:08Speaker 1: And I mean if Cale mccarr's out and Nathan McKinnon
- 23:12Speaker 1: is out as well, I mean, look out mccar's back.
- 23:14Speaker 1: But what have you taken away here for the first
- 23:16Speaker 1: three games of the series.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Well, team, and they've been there, done that, if you will.
- 23:28Speaker 4: From a perspective of you, you ask them if they've
- 23:31Speaker 4: been through something. You know. The underlying theme tonight is
- 23:35Speaker 4: the Colorado Avalanche haven't been here. At least this group
- 23:38Speaker 4: hasn't down three to zero. You know, they lost two
- 23:41Speaker 4: games in regulation in their first forty in the regular season.
- 23:44Speaker 4: But in the last three years, I think Vegas is
- 23:46Speaker 4: something like eleven and four in games five through seven.
- 23:50Speaker 4: So to your point, when they get this far and
- 23:52Speaker 4: they get to up where the game's become much more
- 23:55Speaker 4: critical and even more important than they than they are
- 23:58Speaker 4: in the Stanley Cup playoffs, when you get late into
- 24:00Speaker 4: a series, they know how to conduct themselves and it
- 24:04Speaker 4: will be interesting tonight. And covering the Avalanche morning skate
- 24:08Speaker 4: this morning, the word is and even though he didn't skate,
- 24:11Speaker 4: that Nathan McKinnon will play tonight. According to Jared Bednar,
- 24:14Speaker 4: he will use him regularly as he's accustomed to using him.
- 24:18Speaker 4: He's not expecting him to be limited as he clearly
- 24:21Speaker 4: was after he blocked the shot late in the second
- 24:23Speaker 4: period of Game three. For his I think four or
- 24:26Speaker 4: five shifts that he may have taken in the third period,
- 24:28Speaker 4: that's good news for Colorado. We all know that. You know,
- 24:32Speaker 4: at this time of year, no one's one hundred percent,
- 24:35Speaker 4: but when players are either out of the lineup or
- 24:37Speaker 4: visibly struggling from a physical standpoint, it makes it that
- 24:40Speaker 4: much harder. And that's been the case where their two
- 24:42Speaker 4: best players are concerned throughout this series. Whether it was
- 24:45Speaker 4: Cale mccarr in games one and two or now Nathan
- 24:48Speaker 4: McKinnon down the stretch in Game three. It just it
- 24:50Speaker 4: makes Vegas that more daunting of a task.
- 24:53Speaker 1: John Cale mccarr has become quite the villain here in Seattle,
- 24:57Speaker 1: just basically for the role that he played in the
- 25:00Speaker 1: twenty twenty three first round series against the Kraken, and
- 25:04Speaker 1: yet we've seen just how much he influences that team.
- 25:06Speaker 1: He didn't play for a couple of games they lost.
- 25:09Speaker 1: He came back in last or last game for Game three,
- 25:11Speaker 1: but Vegas won that one income from behind fashion. So
- 25:15Speaker 1: I have the question bears with him back in and
- 25:17Speaker 1: now McKinnon banged up but able to play, how useful
- 25:22Speaker 1: can they be at the stage of the series.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Well, I think mccarr's still a great puck transporter as
- 25:30Speaker 4: far as with that skating ability that he has. You know,
- 25:33Speaker 4: he can break pucks out of the defensive zone all
- 25:35Speaker 4: by himself, just with his feet. One of the things
- 25:38Speaker 4: that was lacking in the first two games without him
- 25:40Speaker 4: were rush chances from a Colorado perspective, and the Avalanche
- 25:44Speaker 4: of made a living off rush chances and their speed,
- 25:46Speaker 4: not just this season but every year on their way
- 25:48Speaker 4: to a President's Trophy this season over one hundred and
- 25:51Speaker 4: twenty points in the regular seasons. But I think he
- 25:54Speaker 4: can be very useful from that perspective. He's a good defenseman. Listen,
- 25:58Speaker 4: he's everybody marvel that what he does offensively, But this
- 26:01Speaker 4: is a good defenseman and potentially maybe best defenseman.
- 26:05Speaker 2: In the game, or in the world for that matter,
- 26:07Speaker 2: right now.
- 26:07Speaker 4: But you know, I'll take an eighty percent Cale mccarr
- 26:11Speaker 4: over no Cale mccar any day of the week. It
- 26:14Speaker 4: clearly appears as if you know, it's a shoulder injury
- 26:17Speaker 4: for him. He took some shots in the game, but
- 26:19Speaker 4: the big wind up slap shot, if given the opportunity,
- 26:22Speaker 4: doesn't appear to be his choice right now, and that
- 26:25Speaker 4: leads him to be limited now. With that in mind,
- 26:27Speaker 4: Vegas has been very physical throughout this series and throughout
- 26:30Speaker 4: these playoffs, and you know, whenever a team knows that
- 26:33Speaker 4: a player might be dealing with something, you know it
- 26:36Speaker 4: is gamesmanship, but they will go after him. And as
- 26:38Speaker 4: I pointed out to Billy Jaffy, my broadcast partner in
- 26:41Speaker 4: Game three, I said, that's always the game plan on
- 26:44Speaker 4: cal mccarr. You're trying to hit him as much as
- 26:46Speaker 4: you can. Normally it's easier said than done. I don't
- 26:49Speaker 4: think the shoulder affects his skating ability. He continues to
- 26:52Speaker 4: be an elusive target.
- 26:53Speaker 1: John Allers joining us right now with the Beacon Plumbing
- 26:56Speaker 1: Hotline again on side, have the call for Game four,
- 26:58Speaker 1: the Western Conference Final tonight in Vegas.
- 27:01Speaker 2: John.
- 27:02Speaker 1: How much have we learned about the Golden Knights and
- 27:04Speaker 1: Mitch Marner and the kind of play that he's pulling
- 27:08Speaker 1: off right now in the postseason versus his time back
- 27:10Speaker 1: in Toronto.
- 27:14Speaker 4: I don't know that we're learning anything other than we're
- 27:16Speaker 4: watching it with a different team. He wasn't a bad
- 27:19Speaker 4: player for Toronto in their playoff runs in his first
- 27:22Speaker 4: eight or nine years there in Toronto. It's just a
- 27:24Speaker 4: spotlight run so hot there, And you know, I think
- 27:28Speaker 4: I read somewhere and I can't confirm this off the
- 27:30Speaker 4: top of my head, but I read that in the
- 27:33Speaker 4: it was the seven playoff runs he had in the
- 27:35Speaker 4: nine years he had in Toronto, he was cumulatively their
- 27:39Speaker 4: leading scorer in those postseasons. Now, you have to be
- 27:43Speaker 4: there for all seven of those postseasons and that probably
- 27:45Speaker 4: aids you and being at the top of the list.
- 27:48Speaker 4: But you know, Toronto is the market in which they
- 27:50Speaker 4: like to point fingers and when things don't go their way,
- 27:53Speaker 4: well they haven't since nineteen sixty seven, because the only
- 27:56Speaker 4: way if they go all the way, it's going to
- 28:02Speaker 4: be you know, who do we blame when this doesn't
- 28:04Speaker 4: go wrong? We see coaches in the crosshairs of that,
- 28:06Speaker 4: not only in Toronto but in every market. But you know,
- 28:10Speaker 4: it's I think it's been a freeing experience for Mitch
- 28:12Speaker 4: to play in Vegas where that spotlight isn't as hot
- 28:16Speaker 4: and isn't as constant on him as it was in
- 28:18Speaker 4: his time in Toronto. And as a result, I mean again,
- 28:22Speaker 4: just like that team he played on in Toronto, he
- 28:25Speaker 4: doesn't have to be the star every single night, and
- 28:27Speaker 4: as a result, you see, you see the whole of
- 28:29Speaker 4: his game. He is a good two hundred foot player.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Jack Eichel gets a ton of credit for that as well,
- 28:35Speaker 4: but again, on any given night, Marner doesn't have to
- 28:37Speaker 4: carry the offensive load. There's been a couple of games
- 28:39Speaker 4: in this series already where he didn't appear on the
- 28:41Speaker 4: score sheet and Vegas did just fine. They're up three
- 28:44Speaker 4: games to none. Ichel has had a couple of games
- 28:47Speaker 4: like that in this run. Same thing happened in the
- 28:49Speaker 4: second round. Marner was clearly the man in there win
- 28:52Speaker 4: over the Anaheim Ducks in the second round. He had
- 28:53Speaker 4: eleven points in a six game series, but at times
- 28:57Speaker 4: Ikeel wasn't, you know, carrying the load, And times in
- 29:00Speaker 4: this series we haven't seen Mitch Marner carry the load.
- 29:02Speaker 4: But lo and behold, he's a leading scorer in these
- 29:04Speaker 4: Stanley Cup playoffs.
- 29:06Speaker 2: John.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Finally, two scenarios. I'll have you fill in the blanks.
- 29:09Speaker 1: This series ends tonight in four games if and we
- 29:13Speaker 1: will go to game five.
- 29:15Speaker 2: If fill in the blank.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Well, Mackenzie Blackwood's going to get the starting goal. So
- 29:20Speaker 4: I'll start with the ladder of the two, and that
- 29:22Speaker 4: is this series will go to a game five if
- 29:24Speaker 4: Mackenzie Blackwood gives them, you know, a strong goaltending performance.
- 29:29Speaker 4: You know, on the surface, it's going to look like, Okay,
- 29:32Speaker 4: Wedgwood went the first three games. To a lot of
- 29:34Speaker 4: people on the outside, this is a panic move. They're
- 29:37Speaker 4: down three games to none, and who can blame Jared
- 29:40Speaker 4: Bednard for doing that. But at the same time, Wedgwood
- 29:43Speaker 4: and Blackwood basically split the goaltending. Dude, he's right down
- 29:46Speaker 4: the middle of the regular season. Early on in the playoffs,
- 29:49Speaker 4: Jared Bednard, despite having I think it was a two
- 29:51Speaker 4: or three games to non lead in the opening round
- 29:53Speaker 4: series against the Kings, he openly was quoted as saying,
- 29:56Speaker 4: we're going to use both of these guys, so you
- 29:59Speaker 4: know this isn't a surprise, really. I think the surprise
- 30:02Speaker 4: for many of us was that it wasn't Mackenzie Blackwood
- 30:05Speaker 4: in Game three. But if he gives them a solid
- 30:08Speaker 4: two good goaltending performance, I think we could see ourselves
- 30:11Speaker 4: back in Denver. This thing ends tonight. I think if
- 30:14Speaker 4: Vegas gets off to a strong start. The one thing
- 30:18Speaker 4: that has been noticeable to me is, you know, the
- 30:21Speaker 4: President's Trophy winning Colorado Avalanche at times from a body
- 30:24Speaker 4: language perspective, have not looked like a confident bunch. Throughout
- 30:28Speaker 4: this series. Vegas has kept them out of the middle
- 30:30Speaker 4: of the ice, kept everything to the outside. Don't be
- 30:33Speaker 4: fooled by the shots on goal numbers. I think Vegas
- 30:37Speaker 4: has been outshot in each of their last nine playoff games,
- 30:40Speaker 4: and yet in those games they're seven and two. This
- 30:42Speaker 4: is a team that packs it in in the defensive
- 30:44Speaker 4: zone and they'll let you shoot from the outside, and
- 30:46Speaker 4: they'll let you handle the puck on the perimeter and
- 30:47Speaker 4: have all the zone time in the world you can have.
- 30:50Speaker 4: But if they get the early lead in this one,
- 30:52Speaker 4: and god forbid, from a Colorado perspective, if they get
- 30:55Speaker 4: a multi goal lead, I can see Vegas being very
- 30:58Speaker 4: comfortable just sitting back and challenging Colorado to get to
- 31:01Speaker 4: the inside like they've challenged all three teams they've played
- 31:05Speaker 4: in this postseason. Then had a great deal of success with.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Vegas up three games to nothing, Game four tonight, John,
- 31:11Speaker 1: appreciate you having.
- 31:12Speaker 4: A call, always a pleasure. Might take care.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Anytime, John Aller joining us once again play by place
- 31:17Speaker 1: Ciphers Sports. You was say that game, of course carried
- 31:20Speaker 1: locally here on nine point fifty kr AM Game four
- 31:25Speaker 1: for the Vegas Golden Knights and the Colorado Avalanche mortiget
- 31:29Speaker 1: after the Mayor of Maple Valley Ian Fornax joins us next. Well,
- 31:41Speaker 1: you know how they say that flexibility is often the
- 31:43Speaker 1: best kind of teacher, and I kind of had to
- 31:46Speaker 1: learn that lesson as I was growing up. Well, apparently
- 31:49Speaker 1: I found out that we're going to be talking to
- 31:51Speaker 1: Ian forness, who will be by the way at Virginia
- 31:55Speaker 1: Mason Athletics Center for Seahawks OTAs. But then we're down
- 32:00Speaker 1: that oops connection issue. He didn't trust me, trust me.
- 32:06Speaker 1: It's code work for I'm tired of talking to Benton.
- 32:08Speaker 1: I don't want to talk to him. Let's just get
- 32:11Speaker 1: through this year.
- 32:12Speaker 6: That's exactly what's going on exactly. Yeah, yeah, he didn't
- 32:16Speaker 6: want to hear.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Glader joins us.
- 32:18Speaker 6: Now by the wazing of the Carolina Hurricanes last night, jeez.
- 32:23Speaker 2: That was blowing up in our in our group shop.
- 32:25Speaker 2: By the way, it was guy.
- 32:27Speaker 6: There's one one guy we won't we won't name him,
- 32:30Speaker 6: we won't name him out, we won't you know, air
- 32:32Speaker 6: him out over the year. But there's one guy's rooting
- 32:34Speaker 6: for the Carolina Hurricanes. And uh yeah, let's just say
- 32:37Speaker 6: the others don't agree.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I will, I will give this this one hen he
- 32:42Speaker 1: is a frequent guest. He has appeared on these air
- 32:44Speaker 1: waves a ton. Oh yes, I will not go any further.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Just I don't throw anyone under the bus. It's our
- 32:49Speaker 1: hockey boys chat.
- 32:50Speaker 6: It's one of those situations where if about you know,
- 32:54Speaker 6: ninety percent of what we say on there would go
- 32:56Speaker 6: on the air, we wouldn't be on the air.
- 33:01Speaker 2: This is why you have to have a speakeasy. Yes, exactly.
- 33:03Speaker 1: The nineteen twenties and thirties and forties and fifties, it
- 33:06Speaker 1: was all rich mahogany and bourbon. We just find that
- 33:10Speaker 1: way too above our pay grade here, soa group chat instead. Yeah,
- 33:13Speaker 1: So you think Colorado makes the three to zero comeback?
- 33:16Speaker 1: No chance, not a chance, Okay, not with the way
- 33:20Speaker 1: mccar's banged.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Ut true, not with the way kin in this bang.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Doesn't you see him by the way on one shift?
- 33:25Speaker 1: Yeah in game in Game three he tried to get
- 33:27Speaker 1: that extra speed burst and it just wasn't happening.
- 33:30Speaker 2: What so, what is the deal with them?
- 33:32Speaker 6: Did they just overdo it in the regular season or
- 33:34Speaker 6: is this all just like coming crashing down at the
- 33:37Speaker 6: wrong time.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Nobody has won the President's Trophy and the Stanley Cup
- 33:43Speaker 1: in the same year in thirteen years. The Chicago Blackhawks
- 33:48Speaker 1: were the last to do it, and that also was
- 33:51Speaker 1: during a lockout shortened season.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Complaint.
- 33:54Speaker 1: So it's just it means absolutely positively nothing. It's just
- 33:59Speaker 1: a incidents, yeah, saying okay, does the ultimate sign fell
- 34:03Speaker 1: the trophies?
- 34:04Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 34:04Speaker 2: The trophy? That means nothing?
- 34:05Speaker 6: Yeah okay, So I meant, like the the is there
- 34:08Speaker 6: a reason why President's Trophy winners don't like?
- 34:12Speaker 1: I love this part of the conversation Anders, because again,
- 34:14Speaker 1: I mean, for for teams who take the best record,
- 34:17Speaker 1: what they want to do is of course build for
- 34:19Speaker 1: whole ice advantage. But now there's a question does whole
- 34:22Speaker 1: ice avantahs mean much anymore?
- 34:24Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't think so.
- 34:26Speaker 1: The Kraken version says, heck no, well, Colorado, Colorado win's
- 34:30Speaker 1: seventh that must be Dallas and seven three years ago.
- 34:33Speaker 2: That's true. That's true.
- 34:33Speaker 6: But I think if anyone has the home micee advantage
- 34:35Speaker 6: is Colorado with the altitude, and you know that place
- 34:39Speaker 6: gets rocking when it's when it's right. But I wonder, like,
- 34:43Speaker 6: if you're exerting so much quote unquote energy, and we
- 34:47Speaker 6: all know how hockey players played through a lot of
- 34:49Speaker 6: injuries during the regular season, more so than in almost
- 34:52Speaker 6: any other sport maybe football, I guess, But exerting that
- 34:58Speaker 6: much energy in the regular season just to you know,
- 35:00Speaker 6: get to the point where you are the President's Trophy
- 35:02Speaker 6: winners and have the whole ice advantage through the playoffs.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Is that?
- 35:05Speaker 6: Is that the reason why they're breaking down now or
- 35:08Speaker 6: is this just Olympics everything? They do have a pretty Olympics.
- 35:12Speaker 6: It was such a screwy year because you have the
- 35:15Speaker 6: Olympic break. I mean, teams are gonna get banged up
- 35:17Speaker 6: because they don't know how to handle it. Me and
- 35:18Speaker 6: the Krack and fell apart after the Olympic break, and
- 35:21Speaker 6: they're they're the first team to admit we would have loved.
- 35:24Speaker 1: To keep playing through this. Just a paraphrase what they said.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Some teams love the break. Vegas could have used it.
- 35:31Speaker 1: They did. They had like like eight or nine players
- 35:33Speaker 1: go to the Olympics. The Kraken had like maybe three.
- 35:36Speaker 1: And that's just way too much time to be, you know,
- 35:39Speaker 1: sitting away at home or on a beach in Mexico, Hawaii,
- 35:45Speaker 1: wherever you want to go, and you gotta drag yourself
- 35:47Speaker 1: back on the ice three weeks later.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I mean, you've lost all momentum.
- 35:50Speaker 6: Yeah. And the other thing is and you're not gonna
- 35:52Speaker 6: like this comp but Vegas is notorious for kind of
- 35:56Speaker 6: just resting guys in the middle of a season just
- 35:59Speaker 6: because they already know they're going to make the playoffs
- 36:01Speaker 6: and it's all about that playoff push. You know what
- 36:02Speaker 6: that sounds like.
- 36:03Speaker 1: The baseball version of this is called the Dodger van exactly,
- 36:06Speaker 1: the Dodger vacation.
- 36:07Speaker 2: I listen to your show, There you go, there it is.
- 36:11Speaker 6: It's it's not a dig It's like it's it's obviously
- 36:15Speaker 6: it works for both teams.
- 36:16Speaker 2: They were a loophole. There was a loophole. Yeah, they
- 36:19Speaker 2: worked it.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Tampa Bay worked at the league is trying to close
- 36:22Speaker 1: set loophole now, but they worked the loophole. Oh, speaking
- 36:25Speaker 1: of baseball, have we talked enough piggyback yet?
- 36:30Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 36:31Speaker 6: The tee for you, man, I I'm interested to see
- 36:34Speaker 6: what Molly Wop says today. We'll have that at one
- 36:37Speaker 6: o'clock so they will have their thoughts. I'm sure. I
- 36:42Speaker 6: do think it's pretty funny how everyone prior to the
- 36:47Speaker 6: piggyback situation was why do we care about Luis Castillo's feelings?
- 36:52Speaker 6: Get him out of there? He's obviously the worst pitcher.
- 36:55Speaker 6: And then all of a sudden, now that he looks
- 36:57Speaker 6: pissed off in the dugout, we all care about Louis
- 37:00Speaker 6: Castillo's feelings all over again. So which one are we
- 37:03Speaker 6: talking about here? So the thought of the piggyback and
- 37:07Speaker 6: it actually worked to perfection last night. Whether Bryce Miller
- 37:10Speaker 6: and Luis Castillo get pissed off about it or not,
- 37:14Speaker 6: they obviously don't like it. Both of them don't like it.
- 37:17Speaker 6: But you you have a day where you don't use
- 37:19Speaker 6: your bullpen. You can now use any bullpen arm for
- 37:22Speaker 6: the rest of this week. Yeah, and have a chance
- 37:24Speaker 6: to go sweep the division leaders at this point, and
- 37:28Speaker 6: you get two guys that you know, whether it is
- 37:31Speaker 6: the reason why Castillo is starting to find himself again
- 37:34Speaker 6: or not, it's he's providing value once again to you,
- 37:39Speaker 6: and here it's you're not going to trade him, so
- 37:42Speaker 6: you got to find ways to get use out of him,
- 37:45Speaker 6: and that if that is getting his confidence back to
- 37:47Speaker 6: where he can be a starter once again, and then
- 37:49Speaker 6: you just go to back to the quote unquote traditional
- 37:52Speaker 6: six man rotation. I think that's probably the long term
- 37:56Speaker 6: play here, But I don't know, man, because as pissed
- 38:01Speaker 6: as those guys were last night, it worked exactly the
- 38:04Speaker 6: way the Mariners wanted.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I think the big question for me is how long
- 38:07Speaker 1: can this work out? With Bryce Miller and his ego
- 38:10Speaker 1: Lewis Castillo and his ego. I mean, again, I use
- 38:12Speaker 1: ego as a very very complimentary turn, because again, major
- 38:15Speaker 1: league ballplayers have egos, and again, the biggest key for
- 38:19Speaker 1: the most successful teams is managing said egos. In that clubhouse,
- 38:23Speaker 1: they all want to go, but there's only so many
- 38:25Speaker 1: holes that you can fill where we are now fitting
- 38:28Speaker 1: six guys into a five man foam both her for
- 38:30Speaker 1: this pitching rotation.
- 38:31Speaker 6: Yeah, and it's one of those things where I think
- 38:35Speaker 6: the decision you have to make. Everyone's like, just make
- 38:38Speaker 6: a decision. Just make a decision. It's not you're not
- 38:41Speaker 6: dfan Castillo. You're not trading Castile. That's out of the picture.
- 38:45Speaker 6: The decision you have to make is whether you want
- 38:47Speaker 6: to do the six man rotation or you put Castillo
- 38:50Speaker 6: in the bullpen's that's the decision you have to make.
- 38:54Speaker 6: And that's where we're kind of deciding where his value
- 38:57Speaker 6: is going to be with this team moving forward.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Wait for that here Molly WAPs also coming up at
- 39:00Speaker 1: one o'clock. What else is going on?
- 39:01Speaker 2: Andrews?
- 39:02Speaker 6: Uh, we got Molly Wop, Marcus truefant is gonna hop
- 39:06Speaker 6: in and talk. Uh, you know some footballs. Ian's at
- 39:09Speaker 6: ot as. He's actually just floating around right outside the
- 39:11Speaker 6: office here Seahawks legend.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Did I see him?
- 39:14Speaker 6: Yeah, we're gonna We're gonna chat with him, and we
- 39:17Speaker 6: got the dumbest thing you've heard today.
- 39:18Speaker 2: I can't wait. I love when Ian brings this stuff.
- 39:21Speaker 4: Up.
- 39:22Speaker 6: He's like, oh, I got a dumbest thing for today,
- 39:23Speaker 6: so uh you'll hear that at twelve.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Well, I was on the air for about two hours.
- 39:26Speaker 1: He's got a gold mine here to play with her mate,
- 39:29Speaker 1: that I promise.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Okay, all right, Ian's up next. Andrews as well.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Big thanks once again Luke Arkins, John Allers as well
- 39:36Speaker 1: for Greg Bell and Chris Kidd.
- 39:38Speaker 2: I might see a
