- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we're going to talk about a funny story that
- 0:35happened because I think I mentioned it last week that I've
- 0:38jacked my back up and my shoulder is just I'm driving my
- 0:43chiropractor crazy, let's just put it that way.
- 0:45Thank God he has patience with me.
- 0:47Anyway, I can't use my right arm in certain positions.
- 0:52So when you go to brush your teeth, you know you tend to lean
- 0:55over the sink. You tend to brush.
- 0:57I'm a right-handed person, so here I am trying to brush my
- 1:00teeth and it's killing me. Like it.
- 1:02The The pain that's coming through my shoulder blade and in
- 1:05the back of my neck is just ridiculous.
- 1:08So I try to brush my teeth with my left hand.
- 1:12Simple request, right, let's switch hands and try doing
- 1:15something with my other hand. Now, I didn't really think too
- 1:18much about this because I actually like if I sat and I
- 1:21concentrate, I can actually write fairly well with my left
- 1:23hand and I do a lot of things with my left hands.
- 1:26Like when I'm gardening, I always, you know, I'll switch
- 1:29hands constantly. I'll go left right and I can
- 1:31use, I can use tools with both hands.
- 1:33So I can't really think much about it.
- 1:35Here I go. I'm like, I'm going to brush my
- 1:36teeth and I can't. I can't brush my teeth with my
- 1:39left hand. Now this may sound ridiculous,
- 1:42but try it. Try brushing your teeth with
- 1:44your opposite hand and see how what happens and how that works
- 1:47out. So this gets me thinking about
- 1:49how we have this whole system within us that we take for
- 1:54granted all the time about like, you know, what we do and the
- 1:57patterns in which we do it and we just do it and we don't even
- 1:59give it a second thought about how hard it would be if we
- 2:03didn't have it. So then I'm thinking, well gosh,
- 2:05I haven't had any gratitude towards the fact that I can
- 2:09brush my teeth with my right hand, appreciating how strong my
- 2:13right-handed skills are. So I'm running through my whole
- 2:17thing about being grateful with my right hand, and then I start
- 2:19thinking about okay. Well, this is really interesting
- 2:22because how many other things am I missing that I'm just taking
- 2:25for granted? Like brushing my teeth with my
- 2:28right hand? Anything, anything that you do,
- 2:31all of a sudden you start really like I am great at picking up on
- 2:34small things around me, things that I can take pictures with
- 2:37the phone of all this stuff. But the daily tasks, what we
- 2:41would consider the mundane task, the maintenance tasks tend to
- 2:46get lost even within me and and I am conditioned to kind of look
- 2:50for these things all the time. But I recognize I was I was not
- 2:53paying attention as close as I could.
- 2:55So I started to think about, all right I want to dial this up.
- 2:58I want to go up to a whole different level with this and I
- 3:00really want to kind of make it so that I can find all these
- 3:06little tiny things that I can, you know, be grateful for and
- 3:10focus my, you know, skills. And and another piece of this is
- 3:14just saying, hey, I really want to practice things differently
- 3:17this year and I really want to be more intentional with
- 3:20noticing certain things. So I want to notice okay.
- 3:22I really I would like to be able to brush my teeth with my left
- 3:27hand and I'm very grateful for my left hand.
- 3:30I want to be able to balance as strong on my right foot as I can
- 3:34on my left foot. So just a strange tendency since
- 3:38the right side of me is more the the user side, let's say.
- 3:43But I recognize I, I often, while I'm talking to clients,
- 3:46I'll balance on one foot. Because you it's very important
- 3:49as you get older to be able to balance on one foot that's like
- 3:53stops you from falling over all the time or when you get much
- 3:56older, you know the the danger of falling down and hitting your
- 3:59head. So I'd read this and I had often
- 4:01stop and pause, but I realized that my left leg I can balance
- 4:04like a Pelican on my left leg, but my right leg, no, I'm tippy.
- 4:09I I can, like, actually tip over or still.
- 4:12So I'm like, how many of these little things am I just not
- 4:16paying attention to? Every little piece of it?
- 4:20Since I started asking these questions, I started picking up
- 4:23on the strangest things, directional stuff that you try
- 4:27to do the opposite of with your other hand.
- 4:29So, like, think about how you pour your coffee in the morning.
- 4:32Do you pour it with your left hand?
- 4:34Your right hand? OK.
- 4:36And I do it with the other hand. And then you're going to be
- 4:39grateful for the fact that you're able to do that.
- 4:41So you're tying gratitude to everything because it's a great
- 4:43practice to always tie gratitude.
- 4:45Sounds silly, but when you start building your mundane tasks with
- 4:49gratitude, one, you don't mind doing them so much, that's a
- 4:52byproduct of it. And two, you really start to
- 4:54feel like you're building your day right out of the chute in a
- 4:58state of gratitude, which is super important in my opinion,
- 5:00because the more gratitude you have for things, the more likely
- 5:03you are to be able to, you know, have an excellent day right out
- 5:07of the chute. So start looking for all these
- 5:11little tiny things that are seem mundane but are going to shift
- 5:15you quickly as you do them, because they're not mundane if
- 5:19you fuse them with gratitude. And you're now building your
- 5:22skill set in a far greater way with the opposite parts of
- 5:26yourself. Huge strength in that, my
- 5:28friends. Huge strength in that.
- 5:30So give it a shot and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:33Hope you guys have a blessed day.
- 5:35Bye.
