- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Welcome to the Uplifters Podcast.
- 1:22This is where every week we talk to inspiring midlife women who
- 1:26are doing big,
- 1:26brave things in the world and who generously share their
- 1:30journeys with us so that
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: we can all get new ideas,
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: new inspiration,
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: and maybe boost our own belief and our own capabilities to do big,
- 1:41brave things in midlife and well beyond because I want to still
- 1:45be doing big,
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: brave things in my 90s.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: And so I'm just practicing and
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: now for the 90-year-old I want to be.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: And today, you'll meet Corinne Vanderbroek and Edwina White.
- 1:57They're collaborating on an upcoming documentary that I can't
- 2:01wait for you to hear
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: them tell you about called I Got You.
- 2:04In this episode,
- 2:04we're going to talk to Corinne and Edwina about collaboration.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: We're going to talk about community and
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: And we're going to talk about what it takes to raise money,
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: to get the funding we need in order to do big,
- 2:23brave things and to find the other people who believe in us and
- 2:26support us so that
- 2:28we aren't stuck just doing stuff alone and only taking it as
- 2:32far as one human can
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: take it.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: but taking it as far as a whole community can take it.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: So Edwina, Corinne, thank you so much for being here today.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: Thanks for having us.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much for inviting us.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: I mean,
- 2:46and the way this all kind of came to be is that I used to be
- 2:49Corinne's neighbor and
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: always admired her.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: She was very just uplifting.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: presence in our neighborhood.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: And we all remember her fondly after she moved away.
- 2:59And then I happened to see on LinkedIn that she was raising
- 3:01funds for this documentary.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: And I was like,
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: well,
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: I don't have a billion dollar fund to contribute,
- 3:09but I do have an amazing community of uplifters who I think
- 3:12would be gaga to hear
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: about this film and uplift you and Edwina and the work that you're doing.
- 3:19and even more so to uplift Miss T,
- 3:22who is an uplifter being uplifted by uplifters.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: It's super meta.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: Anyway,
- 3:29so let's just start with the story of Miss T so that everyone
- 3:33out there listening
- 3:34can just fall in love with her and be enchanted by her in the
- 3:38way that I now am
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: after watching your teaser,
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: which we'll share in the show notes,
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: but even more so after hearing you describe her and the impact she's had.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Both Corinne and I,
- 3:48our kids go to local schools where Miss T is the crossing guard
- 3:53on the corner of
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Monroe and Tompkins.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: She's just celebrated her 22nd year.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: This is in Brooklyn in Bed-Stuy, right?
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:03So on the same corner,
- 4:05extremely dependable,
- 4:07whatever the weather,
- 4:08there she is.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: My daughter's school was a bit further away,
- 4:12but we would always make sure we went through her crossing on
- 4:18the way to our school
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: because there was a hug in it.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: She knew our names.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: She would encourage us to dance.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Someone to look forward to on the way to begin your day.
- 4:30And as you saw the end of their school day,
- 4:33we would get to see her again.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: And I was working on a project because I do documentary, nonfiction.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: That's what I do, freelance.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: And I was working on a project not in Brooklyn.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: It was actually in Idaho.
- 4:48And I was trying to get a fundraising together for that and
- 4:52made a teaser.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: And it was about a very heavy, personal heavy subject matter.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: And every time I would come back, I would just feel so heavy.
- 5:02And every time I would cross the street with my kids and Miss T
- 5:05would greet us,
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: this heaviness would just kind of disappear.
- 5:10And she kind of takes you to the other side,
- 5:13literally,
- 5:14and you feel different.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: So I started thinking,
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: what if I just,
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 5:19shift focus because this other project is going to be just
- 5:22devastatingly difficult
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: on so many levels.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:26And maybe come back to that one day when I'm in a different
- 5:29mind space and the time is right.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: And so I told Miss T, I think you should be in a documentary.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: And she said, well, I think so too.
- 5:40And I said,
- 5:41well,
- 5:41maybe look at my work because I have a film that's very easy to
- 5:44find.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: It's on Netflix and it's called Sisters on Track.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: And it's about these three sisters that live around the corner.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: And I filmed them for almost six years.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: And that's a coming-of-age story that is in and of itself beautiful.
- 5:58But then when Miss T had seen my film,
- 6:00she said,
- 6:01yeah,
- 6:02I think we should do this.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: So she was on board, which is always great.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: That's the way to start, to have the main character want it.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: She entirely trusts us.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: She will...
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: So within this film, you know, she takes us to her home.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: She takes off, she shows us her tattoo.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: She tells us about her family and her origin story.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: She's been incredibly generous.
- 6:31And I think she also coached everyone else coming across the
- 6:35street to be in this film.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: If they, you know, just come on, come on.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: You want to be in my documentary?
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: So everyone sort of woke up.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: They love her.
- 6:44There's a whole community of people who we've all got to know
- 6:49each other by just
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: uniting with her.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: So she will introduce us to each other too and our relevant kids.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: She knows everyone by name.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: She gives our kids birthday cards.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: She knows when their birthday is.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Puts in cash.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: She is for real.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: She hosts dinner parties for Father's Day, for Thanksgiving.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: All her crossing guard friends, all her... She calls them my parents.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: These are the parents that cross the street.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: My children, my parents.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: And then she throws these parties twice a year that are epic.
- 7:23And if you get invited,
- 7:24then that means...
- 7:27You can be happy for half a year after that.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: And then the next party starts again.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: So she hosts them in her house.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: She cooks.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: She gets a DJ and she puts on a major spread.
- 7:38And she'll tell you,
- 7:39you know,
- 7:39we've got jerk chicken,
- 7:41rice and beans and cupcakes.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: And there's always a theme and a colorway.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: It's a good time.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: And it's various ages.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Everyone's from a different place,
- 7:54whether they're parents or they live up the road or whether
- 7:59they cross them when
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: they were kids.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: It's incredible who's there.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: The next party, she's turning 59.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: She's going to have a sneaker ball.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: I mean... Sneaker ball of cake is a sneaker.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: And everyone's wearing sneakers and prom dresses.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 8:15This is a woman who knows how to celebrate and who knows how to
- 8:21create connection.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: There's so much about Miss T that I want to aspire to in my own life.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: And,
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: I think in this time where many of us feel isolated and disconnected,
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: and there's so much research that we read
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: It's so true.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: I like the ties thing with the sneaker.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 9:04Talking about loose ties,
- 9:06my marriage came apart during this time and I had squatted.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: So I had all these really heavy problems,
- 9:14but I have to be all skippity or like get my child's school and
- 9:18still walk the dog
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: and it was all raining down.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: I think both of us were experiencing a form of grief and heaviness.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: And we came into shooting whenever we were on set,
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: which was outside on the street with parents and kids.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: And Miss T being such a delight and so generous.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: So she was always looking out for us during that time too.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: She sends phone messages, emojis every day.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: Amazing.
- 9:52You talk about trust and hearing the fact that she trusted you
- 9:56with her story,
- 9:58but it doesn't sound like this is a person who withholds trust
- 10:01in general.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: And yet you shared in your story that like,
- 10:06SPEAKER_03: she has not had an easy life,
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: but she has chosen this optimism.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: I think what she trusts,
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: I feel very akin to her in that she's very open,
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: but if you do wrong by her,
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: she'll just ignore or shut it down.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: But it won't build.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: She's not an angry person, but she'll just close that down.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: She referred to a couple of people there that did her wrong,
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: and she wishes them well in a way,
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: but just not an intimacy anymore.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: Well, there's a real life lesson in there, isn't it?
- 10:45SPEAKER_03: Because what she's doing,
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: and we hear this in the way she throws these parties,
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: the way she remembers the birthdays,
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: the way she makes connection with people.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: She's cultivating the relationships that are meaningful and good for her.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: And then to say, yeah, she shuts down the ones that aren't.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: And like, what would shift for all of us?
- 11:09If we put all of our energy into what was helpful and useful to
- 11:14us and just said,
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: thanks,
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: but no thanks to what drags us down.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: She said when we filmed during the election and people were really,
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: understandably,
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: sort of mournful or terrified about what was to come.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: And the way she talked about it,
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: because we didn't know how far into it,
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: we didn't know about touching on
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: but there's an undercurrent and a loving current coursing through her,
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: which was,
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: if someone's going to run a red light,
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: she would say,
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: it just needs a hug.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: So she felt like that during any kind of strive,
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: she has compassion for the person who is doing the harmful thing.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: This is a small film about big things.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: It's one person.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: It's also,
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: it's not a long film,
- 12:16but it's a full year of the school year is the parameters in
- 12:21which we shot.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: So the visuals are, we use different cameras.
- 12:26So we've been working with my small camera with these beautiful
- 12:30Leica lenses that I
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: got from my great uncle and they're for photography,
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: but I am constantly trying to focus.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: She's moving.
- 12:38it's really fun to do and quite hard so there's like there's
- 12:42that aspect but then
- 12:43we have the drone we have a drone a friend of ours from the
- 12:46school as well he he's
- 12:47been using drone shots from above but very very stylistically
- 12:54poetically done it's
- 12:56it's amazing and we actually I was out there this morning with
- 12:58him to get the last
- 13:00season of snow so this morning we saw the sunrise and then we
- 13:05saw miss t with her
- 13:06highlighter hat going through this tiny path that was created
- 13:11for her to get to her
- 13:12job to the corner and yeah we have all these amazing different
- 13:18like feelings and
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: yeah and it just feels like we're yeah we're we're making this
- 13:25kind of love story,
- 13:27I guess,
- 13:27in a way,
- 13:28about very matter-of-fact moments.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: And she's outside all the time.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: So whatever the weather, so you have rain, hail, snow, sunshine.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: And so you have all of that within the film.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: And you also...
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: I just,
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: yeah,
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: when it's less romantic,
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: when it's not as pretty,
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: when it's slush and traffic and sirens,
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: she's still,
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: her level of concentration,
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: yes,
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: she's there for a hug,
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: but she's watching all four corners.
- 14:00And she'll yell out or blow her whistle to catch anyone who's
- 14:05stepping into danger.
- 14:07It's really easy to fall into the trap of thinking,
- 14:11I don't have enough money.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: I don't have enough influence.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: I don't have enough friends.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: I don't have enough education.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: I don't have enough qualifications.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: This horrible hard thing has happened to me.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: This limitation exists for me.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: And to feel really powerless.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: And to feel like, well, who am I?
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: I can't do anything.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: And this is a woman,
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: I think,
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: who shows us at every turn that,
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: oh,
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: no,
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: no,
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: no,
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: you just need yourself.
- 14:38And the moment you're in to be present and connect in order to
- 14:42have tremendous
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: impact for generations.
- 14:46SPEAKER_03: And so I'll direct this question to you,
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: Edwina,
- 14:48because you shared so honestly and generously about the place
- 14:55you were in as you
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: began this project,
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: that you were going through a divorce,
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: which is never fun.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: And I think this was a particularly challenging divorce.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: And you said you had squatters.
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: So for those who aren't in New York,
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: who don't hear about squatters all the time,
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: people living in your space and
- 15:11without permission,
- 15:13without paying rent,
- 15:14really,
- 15:14really,
- 15:14really disruptive and hard.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: So you were in this place that might have felt incredibly powerless.
- 15:21And so I'm curious what impact your time with Miss T had on
- 15:27your perception and the
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: way you navigated these tough times.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: So the marriage development,
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: was in a sort of, it was a confounding state when we started to shoot.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: And then penny dropped very early on.
- 15:44So I was out there and holding onto my tears and carrying bags
- 15:50forwards and back
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: across the street.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: So I wasn't holding the camera.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: I was watching and talking to people.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: I was, I think my work, whatever I'm doing, I'm leaning into...
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: The distraction and beauty, it was a very safe place.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: My home was not a safe place.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: That was hard.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Sleeping in my home,
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: I had two sets of people who I was wary of or nervous about,
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: and I had to perform within my own house,
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: whereas I could be very real outside of my house.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: But I was in protection mode with my daughter.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: So anytime I could be out of my house,
- 16:34I didn't mind if people complained that particular winter that
- 16:38it was freezing
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: cold.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: I was like, I love it.
- 16:41Because it was like a cold water plunge that I could go outside
- 16:45and go,
- 16:46oh.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: But inside, I was very mute.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: I was very careful and sort of ducking and weaving.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: And that was for many months.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: And then eventually with the squatters,
- 16:58my husband ended up leaving and then the squatters stayed for
- 17:02over a year.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: And that was difficult because they were like,
- 17:06fireworks going off at any time from below and having that kind
- 17:11of pressure was
- 17:12very difficult but I had these beautiful places to go the park
- 17:17and the corner so it
- 17:18was a very like I would take my dog out and I have this amazing
- 17:23collaborator and
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: whose work I adore and you know we met in the dog park
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: When I grew up,
- 17:31my parents lived in Australia for a while and my mother had
- 17:35just passed away a
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: couple months and I heard Australian accents.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: And I remember,
- 17:40just remember from my childhood that that was the best memories
- 17:44of my parents
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: together was in Australia.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: They had so much fun.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: It was very lighthearted and we were all young and
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: I think they were just in love and very, very happy there.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: And so were we.
- 17:57So my mom especially had a ton of great,
- 18:00great friends that she would visit.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: And I thought, oh, how funny.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Maybe in my mind,
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: I thought,
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 18:05maybe she knows where I grew up or maybe we grew up in the same
- 18:09area or something.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: And then
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: I asked Edwina, where are you from?
- 18:13And I found out that it's like,
- 18:15you know,
- 18:15it's like Bed-Stuy,
- 18:16Clinton Hill,
- 18:18that close.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Very close.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that close together.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: And so we never met there.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: And there's a little age gap that takes us not to be in the same school,
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: but it was such a funny coincidence.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: I don't know where my mom went to play tennis.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: And,
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: we were trying to figure out if...
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: And your dad went to school,
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: the elementary school that I went to.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Just funny and... So bizarre.
- 18:42Feels like my mom...
- 18:43And I talked to my mom because my mom's still around at 88.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: So I got to talk to her about it.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: And then we both had the opportunity to look at each other's work.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: We both squirreled away and, you know, and had this lovely experience.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: And then we ended up working on this Sesame Street piece together.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: And for me, coming from Australia, anything like that, that's a big time.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't care about anything else.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Sesame Street is where I wanted to live.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: And now I do.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:13So it's not without its,
- 19:15you know,
- 19:15fractious moments and your grouchy gremlins.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: But there is,
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: like,
- 19:22so much beauty out of the layers and the diversity that felt
- 19:29right in this
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: neighborhood,
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: in this film.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: And then Corinne's work, yeah, it's very polished, his Sesame Street.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: Sounds like some mutual admiration there.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: Corinne, I imagine you have collaborated a lot in your career.
- 19:47What is it like to collaborate with a friend and neighbor on
- 19:51something so intimate?
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: It feels so just at ease all the time.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Like it's very flowy.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: I think we share the same sense of humor, which is always nice.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Like that's a great starting point, right?
- 20:03And we would like sit on the corner sometimes before we started
- 20:06filming and these
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: dogs would walk by and then we'd see these amazing shoes.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Like that would be our kind of...
- 20:14And then we go up a bit and see,
- 20:15you know,
- 20:16it became like this kind of catwalk of people.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: There's one woman who walks with her parrots.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: You said parrots, like birds, not parrots.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: But the parrot sits,
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 20:26sits right here and knows Miss T's name and speaks to Miss T
- 20:30and has like real
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: conversations,
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: as real as a parrot can have a conversation.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Oh my
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know, like seeing this humor.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: And I just really like Edwina's work.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: She does these beautiful, beautiful drawings as an artist.
- 20:45But then these animations that she makes the drawings come to
- 20:49life with the help of
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: an animator,
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: a good friend of Edwina.
- 20:52And I just thought,
- 20:54oh,
- 20:54how amazing if you could do something that has multimedia
- 20:58aspects.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Get our budget together and we can find and lift it up even further.
- 21:05But because she tells all these stories from her youth and we
- 21:09think that that might
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: be the place to bring in.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Because that's what we don't have.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Because she grew up in the foster care system for many years,
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: there's a lot that she does not have a record of.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of missing parts to her early life.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: And I think that's where the gravitas comes in the film, the layers.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Because I work in collage,
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: as well as painting and drawing,
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: I can use materials that I was hit eBay and
- 21:41looked at old maps and old subway charts and coordinates and
- 21:46tokens and all that sort of stuff.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: So I have the materials that are from the place and the time.
- 21:53And so it makes it for me more remarkable to think about Miss T
- 21:59as a child
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: traveling by herself on the subway in the mid-70s.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: If you've watched any of the 70s films, except New York.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: It's a different place.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Does not.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: give you any comfort, the idea that it's often a very dramatic location.
- 22:22Trying to find the truth and trying to get people who also,
- 22:27who don't live in New York.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Neither of us are from here.
- 22:31So I think that's why both of us were nervous that we're
- 22:35telling a story that
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: about a woman of color and we're both white, also we're not from here.
- 22:42Maybe it's why we delight in the pedestrian because it is so
- 22:47different from our
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: pedestrian experience and the wonder is not lost on us.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: We don't take it for granted because I've been here for long enough,
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: but I don't let it pass me by.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: I imagine that the entire process of this has been one of,
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: you described the shoes and the parrot and
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: an act of really seeing your neighbors.
- 23:16SPEAKER_03: And I used to play a game with my daughters called Find the Beautiful.
- 23:20And what we would do is we would look for something to admire
- 23:25in every person we'd see.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: And oftentimes it would be as simple as like,
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: oh,
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: look,
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: they decided to match their shirt and pants.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: You know, because like that is a real choice.
- 23:37Oh,
- 23:37look,
- 23:38somebody is holding their hand,
- 23:40which means somebody feels affection toward them.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: And so we would just like really look at every person.
- 23:46And it was like in this time when we do feel so lonely and
- 23:51disconnected and
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: For so much of our lives,
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: just by the design of our day to day,
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: there was this real sense of like,
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: oh my goodness,
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: we're just surrounded by so much humanity.
- 24:05And then in a world where all the algorithms are designed to
- 24:11create tension and
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: division,
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: we just felt instantly more connected.
- 24:17And so I feel that happening for both of you,
- 24:20both through your collaboration,
- 24:21but also
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: through this love affair with this one person in your neighborhood,
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: but also your entire neighborhood at the same time.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: I think it's also about paying attention.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: It's like you doing that is live.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: It's rooting you in the spot where you are at the time.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: And so all of us trying to escape a lot of the time,
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: escape,
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: learn more,
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: find out more and be more.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: And you can do that without your implement of your phone.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: You can do that by being in this space and engaging.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Or not engaging, just soaking it all up.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah,
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: I think it's something we can all do too,
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: which is such a good reminder that it doesn't really take anything.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: We had a woman on recently who has a project called Compliment Squad.
- 25:17And it was a device by which she created an opportunity to
- 25:23connect with her neighbors.
- 25:25SPEAKER_03: Another woman, Gina Hameday, also from Brooklyn, was on the show today.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: years ago, who wrote the book, I Want to Thank You.
- 25:33And her project was about writing thank you notes to people who
- 25:39in some way did
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: something she was grateful for.
- 25:41And many of them would be the guy at the deli or the crossing
- 25:45guard,
- 25:45right?
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: And so looking for those moments of gratitude.
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: So to me,
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: like when I bring all of these together,
- 25:50I think it is this reminder for all of us that if we are
- 25:53feeling disconnected or
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: lonely or
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: like we are missing some meaning and some purpose in our lives,
- 26:01it can really be as simple as being present with or even
- 26:07designing some way in
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: which we set ourselves up to reconnect with the humans in our lives.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: So you two have made this beautiful thing with so much love
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: And you've both invested time, money, energy, creativity, trust.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: So much of yourselves has been invested in this.
- 26:33And now you are at the point where you are telling others about
- 26:37it and you're
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: looking for support to bring it and the impact of Miss T to more people.
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: So let's talk a little about that journey and what's been hard about it,
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: what's worked,
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: what hasn't,
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: and what's next.
- 26:52When we were out on the corner,
- 26:54it was this,
- 26:55first of all,
- 26:55Miss T is the magnet,
- 26:57right?
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Like she's the glue, she's the magnet, she grounds you.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: But the two of us were having so much fun with her.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: And so I think that was another kind of magnetic force that was going on.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: So there's a coffee shop on one corner,
- 27:10then there's a laundromat and we would position ourselves on
- 27:14the corner filming her
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: and everything that was going on.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: But then
- 27:18sometimes just people would walk up to us and say can we help
- 27:23that's when we
- 27:23started to think oh wow this is this can be a real real
- 27:27community project and so we
- 27:28got some of the parents at the school where my kids go to help
- 27:32us write brands to
- 27:34help us with all the productional elements of getting release
- 27:37forms of the children
- 27:38and the parents to kind of set all of that in motion too but
- 27:43also remember the
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: photographer that
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: said they're just so inspired by what we were doing.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: So it had this like,
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: it had like,
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 27:51people would go off and I think they would think about the
- 27:54project for their own
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: work as well.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: One of your friends came to shoot it.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: He did beautiful work.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: So people opened up and said, I'm a DP.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like really slick, commercial, gorgeous.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Beautiful shots.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: So we have those in there too.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: You'll see.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: It's really, really great.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Then another parent said, oh, I can help you with sound.
- 28:17So he came to help with...
- 28:19So it was just like this snowball effect of a feel-good
- 28:23project.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: That's what it is.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: From beginning to end.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: And once we found the courage to get the teaser...
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: and to... Yeah, it took us a bit.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to tell... We were a bit nervous about... We misquoted the amount.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: We just weren't really sure until fairly recently.
- 28:44A producer made us aware of the amount of money that it would
- 28:49take for potential
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: licensing,
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: music composition,
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: just...
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Color correction.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Color correction.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just finishing it.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Legal stuff, like finishing past...
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Quite a lot.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Quite a lot.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: But it's not a feature film.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: It's up to 20 minutes.
- 29:08We want to show it locally in the local park and everything,
- 29:12but I think it will have resonance.
- 29:15It is a film that people are excited and thirsty to see because
- 29:22they're sort of
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: mired in the tragic present tense of film.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: the state of things.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: So it is a really beautiful action-based local story.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Deeply local.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Hyper local.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Which I think everyone is now thinking about as a way to move forward.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: To be able to do anything.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Like what's going on in
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Minneapolis,
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: where neighbors are buying groceries for others and,
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 29:52bringing kids to school and all the things that you need to
- 29:55hyper-locally take care
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: of in order for larger things to make sense to.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:01So it just feels like the time is right to find the right
- 30:06distribution for this.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: And we hope it's going to go to all these beautiful film festivals.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: We've had some of our films be in really great ones.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: One in Edinburgh.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Can...
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Cannes.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Cannes.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Telluride.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Telluride.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: DocMYC.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Sundown.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: So let's hope for Misty to travel far and wide.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: Australia.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: Australia.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: We want to take it home.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: Take it to the Netherlands.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: I think take it home.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: She deserves it.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 30:36So yeah,
- 30:37we need funding for animation to happen,
- 30:40color correction,
- 30:41the music,
- 30:42so many things.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: We are not very good at that.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: we're good at
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: We're good at doing all the rest of the lovely, fun stuff.
- 30:53And then we have met some people recently who are interested in
- 30:58helping us out,
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: like you,
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: which is fantastic.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: But we do need it to do the best, polished job.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: And assistants,
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: any professionals who are willing to possibly lend their time,
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: that would be amazing too.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: In kind.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in kind is pretty much how we've
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Rolled.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Rolled.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: No.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah,
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: so most of the folks listening here not only are uplifters,
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: but are people who want to do big,
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: brave things,
- 31:31maybe don't always know what they want to do or are struggling
- 31:35to get traction and
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: make progress with the big,
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: brave things they're doing.
- 31:39And so I want to try to synthesize some of the lessons that I
- 31:43take from your last answer.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: And the first,
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: I think,
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: is really the most fundamental,
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: which is this idea of starting hyperlocal.
- 31:50The newly appointed deputy mayor of health and human services
- 31:56was on this show years ago.
- 31:57And she shared with me something that fundamentally reshaped
- 32:02how I think about
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: change making,
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: which is start on your own block.
- 32:07And so this idea of starting hyperlocal with what really
- 32:11directly impacts you and
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: your closest community,
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: even if it's affecting people globally,
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: it is close in.
- 32:17And so I think there is that core lesson and then allowing the
- 32:22other people who are
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: impacted by this lesson to become,
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: or impacted by this need to become collaborators.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: Because it's lonely work doing big, brave things a lot of the time.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: Unless...
- 32:34We do as the two of you have done and do it visibly and share
- 32:37openly about the
- 32:38vision and the idea and the opportunity and use it as a point
- 32:43to connect with other
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: people who care about the same things that you do.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: And then third is the willingness to accept help, right?
- 32:51Because I think one of the risks that a lot of creators stumble
- 32:57on is caring so
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: much makes us sort of overprotective of what we're creating.
- 33:03And so we don't allow help to buoy us and to expand the sense
- 33:08of possibility.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: And so there is,
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: I hear in your answer,
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: just this real freedom and openness to say,
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: yeah,
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: help us.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: And it's something I hear again and again.
- 33:18And the nonprofit that has helped tens or hundreds of thousands
- 33:23of people or the
- 33:26piece of art that has impacted people globally is a willingness
- 33:30to receive the
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: support.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: And oftentimes to do it in kind and to say,
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: I ask every guest at the end of each episode,
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: and I'll ask you in just a moment to say,
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: okay,
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: as uplifters,
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: we love to uplift other people.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: So how can we uplift you?
- 33:45And the answer I get most often from these really successful
- 33:49grassroots folks is,
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: if you have a skill and this matters to you,
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: please contribute your skill.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: And so we don't all have to be the initiator.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Every initiator needs supporters and every supporter needs initiators.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: And then the final piece of this,
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: I think,
- 34:08is just asking questions and inviting other people in to expand
- 34:13the vision.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: So now, how can we uplift you?
- 34:17How can we uplift the vision and possibility of Miss T and her
- 34:23story and your work
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: in collaboration?
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: Well,
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: I think any support right now that if people are listening or watching,
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: if there's a spark where they think,
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: I would really,
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: there's something I want to talk to these listeners.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: you know, these creators about.
- 34:43We're very open to any kind of support because there's still
- 34:47such a long way to go.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it's also people might think,
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: I'm actually looking for an artist for a project that I'm working on.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Or I have a story that is within the...
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: within the parameters of I got you.
- 35:02Like I know someone else is because people have asked us,
- 35:05what are we doing next?
- 35:06We do have to do this and polish it up so that it is something
- 35:10that we would ask is
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: skills in those areas that we'd mentioned in filmmaking.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: But also we don't need a lot of money from a few people.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: We need a little bit of money from a lot of people.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: So I think that would be great if you...
- 35:30contributed the expensive coffee amount to our film that would
- 35:36kick us along that
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: little bit further.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: And there's a GoFundMe that we'll share.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: There's a GoFundMe.
- 35:43I would say have a look at the opening sequence and pass it
- 35:47around because it is
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: wherever you live.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: relatable, and joyous.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: I think it's,
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 35:55we get to the weight of Miss T's story when we show you the
- 36:01rest of the film,
- 36:01but hopefully there's enough in there to make you want to come
- 36:05along on that ride.
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: I just had an idea too.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: In our local town art council,
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: you could come and talk about the making of the film,
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: share the teaser,
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: and maybe get some donations.
- 36:21And so I share that because I think like there are so many
- 36:25avenues and when we all
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: think together about ways to open those doors,
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: so many more doors open.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: And in general, like we want to have a positive impact with our lives.
- 36:35And so whether it's through skills or time or simply sharing
- 36:41this teaser and
- 36:42SPEAKER_03: helping make other people aware of it and down the road,
- 36:46Screening it in our local communities and becoming champions
- 36:49and a part of this
- 36:50SPEAKER_03: team with you would be such a joy for so many of us.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: So every guest on The Uplifters nominates another guest.
- 36:58SPEAKER_03: And I know it's asking a lot of you two people who know so many amazing,
- 37:02SPEAKER_03: inspiring folks,
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: who would you like to nominate,
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: Edwina and Karim?
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: We've got a person in mind.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: Her name is Salome Ralima, and she's also a filmmaker and a writer.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: And we met her on the corner,
- 37:17and we danced with her at one of Misty's parties and started a
- 37:21friendship,
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: more work friendships.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: So we show her our cuts, and she replies.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: She's very engaged and engaging.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: She really is...
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: There's something incredibly warm and wise about her.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: And she's always working on something fascinating.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: She's working on a film about Belle.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 37:48And that was actually because that was the book I was reading
- 37:51when I thought,
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: I have to do this film.
- 37:54And then there she walked in the frame and started asking where
- 37:58she could buy
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: fluorescent paints.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: the color of Miss T,
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: so that when she opens the closet,
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: she thinks about Miss T.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: And then I thought...
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: A fluorescent yellow jacket.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: So then we thought, oh, who's this woman?
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: And then she told us about,
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: that she's working to try to get this Bell Hooks film made.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: She should be your next guest.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to talk to her.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: She sounds amazing.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: There are so many uplifters all around us.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: But if you listen to the news or look at social media,
- 38:31you would get the sense that like the world is full of evil and
- 38:35hatred and
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: meanness.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: And there is plenty of that.
- 38:41SPEAKER_03: And there's so much beauty,
- 38:45SPEAKER_03: so much compassion,
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: so many inspiring folks like the two of you,
- 38:49SPEAKER_03: like Miss T,
- 38:50SPEAKER_03: like Salome.
- 38:52SPEAKER_03: And just like Miss T,
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: and I think she's such a perfect evidence of this,
- 38:58the research shows that when we spend our time with people who
- 39:02inspire us,
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: who live in the way that we want to live,
- 39:08We are more likely to both be happy,
- 39:11but also to emulate those behaviors.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it provokes resilience.
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: It's like, I can do this.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: Facing difficult things is really so much easier if you have these wise,
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: beautiful people who used to be strangers.
- 39:31Just that little bit of the offerings and the generosity are
- 39:37noted and they build friendships.
- 39:40SPEAKER_03: Well, thank you both so much for your time.
- 39:41SPEAKER_03: I can't wait for this film to come out.
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to share it and to keep cheering you on along the way.
- 39:47And I can't wait to see you at Uplifters Live and for you to
- 39:50meet all sorts of
- 39:51other amazing folks who I think will really be energized by the
- 39:56story as well.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.

- 40:39SPEAKER_00: Painted water, sunshine, with rosemary and thyme.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: Dwelling, not perplexing, though you find it vexing.

- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Lift you up.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: Lift you up.
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: Beautiful.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: That little thing you did with your voice.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 41:49SPEAKER_03: In the pre-chorus.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: I was like.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: Mommy, stop crying.
- 41:56SPEAKER_03: You're disturbing the peace.
