1:36
Speaker 5: That has been a joke of mine since early January,
1:40
Speaker 5: but it it's getting close to being true.
1:43
Speaker 3: It really really is.
1:44
Speaker 5: All right now, speaking of the weather, it's going to
1:46
Speaker 5: be a stormy Wednesday here in the valley and all
1:47
Speaker 5: across the state of West Virginia. You get to that
1:49
Speaker 5: in a little bit. Political political strategist Greg Thomas is
1:52
Speaker 5: going to join us closing day of the legislature. We'll
1:55
Speaker 5: get a closing days I should say, we'll get Gregg's
1:57
Speaker 5: take on that, including some big time just ushs about
2:00
Speaker 5: tax cut's going to bring in my guy, Woody Woods

Speaker 5: from her sister station one O seven three The Beat.
2:05
Speaker 5: If you've been listening to the Beat of the last
2:08
Speaker 5: few days, you may have noticed a few subtle changes.
2:10
Speaker 5: Certainly you've noticed the name change, or at least it's
2:13
Speaker 5: still the Beat, but the moniker, as we called into business,
2:15
Speaker 5: So Woody Broadcasting Hall of Famer what he was. We'll

2:23

2:26
Speaker 5: you a candidate for mayor in the city of South Charleston.
2:29

2:39
Speaker 5: Do you want to start with the weather though? Welcome
2:41
Speaker 5: in Metro News Meteorologist Brian Hughes, Good morning, sir, Welcome
2:44
Speaker 5: to the show.
2:45
Speaker 2: Well it's going to be here, but I'd rather be
2:47
Speaker 2: talking about Sonny in seventy five.
2:48
Speaker 5: Okay, So what is the temperature?
2:50
Speaker 1: Now?
2:50
Speaker 5: Let's where are we right now it's it is sixty
2:54
Speaker 5: nine here in Charleston. So I've been saying, sonny in
2:57
Speaker 5: seventy five sixty nine not very sunny. But we got
3:01
Speaker 5: some at least some weather concerns today, Brian.
3:04
Speaker 3: Yeah, we do.
3:05
Speaker 2: I mean listen with temperatures right now in the seventies
3:08
Speaker 2: across the board, some upper sixties, but mostly seventies, and
3:12
Speaker 2: looking all the way back to Louisville, it's seventy two degrees.
3:15
Speaker 2: It's seventy and seventy two and pike ful, we've got
3:18
Speaker 2: seventy one Charleston, sixty three up into Elkins. But here's
3:22
Speaker 2: what's going to happen at Temperatures as we start this
3:26
Speaker 2: morning like this are not a good sign, especially in
3:30
Speaker 2: the month of March. So we have this Morshit's coming
3:33
Speaker 2: in from the Gulf of Mexico. We've got a massive
3:35
Speaker 2: cold air mass. It's up across the Midwest and upper
3:38
Speaker 2: Midwest Great Plains. The collision of the drier cold air
3:44
Speaker 2: and the very warm, moist air means severe weather is
3:47
Speaker 2: most like thunderstorms for sure, but severe weather is going
3:49
Speaker 2: to be likely because at the surface we have the
3:52
Speaker 2: winds that are moving in one direction and middle levels
3:54
Speaker 2: they are moving to a different direction in the upper
3:56
Speaker 2: levels also a different direction that's called turning with height.
4:00
Speaker 2: That is conducive, that's what I always call it exactly,
4:03
Speaker 2: but that is conducive to severe thunderstroms developing. And we
4:07
Speaker 2: were looking at probably a midday round, so a mid
4:10
Speaker 2: early to mid afternoon, and I expect probably a tornado
4:14
Speaker 2: watch to be issued, if not by the lunch hour,
4:17
Speaker 2: by maybe one o'clock in the afterna watch not a warning,
4:19
Speaker 2: that is correct, tornado watch, because we have a tornado
4:21
Speaker 2: watch right now that's in effect from Evansville, Indiana, to
4:24
Speaker 2: Louisville back up to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dayton is included
4:27
Speaker 2: in that. They're looking at expanding that up to Columbus,
4:30
Speaker 2: maybe near Akron. So that is that watch goes till noon,
4:34
Speaker 2: and then the extension of it will be most likely happening.
4:37
Speaker 2: Then we'll get a tornado watch in the afternoon, midday
4:40
Speaker 2: to afternoon for our area, and that could be a
4:43
Speaker 2: one o'clock to maybe eight o'clock in the evening tornado watch,
4:47
Speaker 2: but it will be it will encompass most of West Virginia,
4:50
Speaker 2: but for us, we'll get a midday most likely round
4:53
Speaker 2: of a couple of thunderstorms, some of the strongest severe,
4:55
Speaker 2: and then we have the five to eight o'clock in
4:58
Speaker 2: the evening time frame that we could get another round.
5:02
Speaker 2: All threats are on the table. If we get a
5:04
Speaker 2: thunderstorm midday that moves through, you have a very heavy rainfall,
5:09
Speaker 2: you get another storm later on after that, that would
5:11
Speaker 2: be the flash flooding potential, But these things are going
5:14
Speaker 2: to be moving in a pre decent rate, so the
5:16
Speaker 2: flash flood threat is low. The large heil threat is
5:21
Speaker 2: probably about a medium to moderate risk, damaging wind is
5:25
Speaker 2: at a moderate risk, and the tornado threat is a
5:28
Speaker 2: low to moderate risk.
5:30
Speaker 5: So so the biggest one I'm hearing you say is Brian.
5:32
Speaker 5: The biggest threat for here in the Canal Valley more
5:35
Speaker 5: likely would be high winds.
5:36
Speaker 2: High winds is a primary threat, but largehill is also
5:39
Speaker 2: on the table. And then the isolated tornado threat, and
5:42
Speaker 2: tornado gets everybody paying attention, and we tried not to
5:47
Speaker 2: use that language unless it's there. We have a two
5:50
Speaker 2: percent and five percent risk across our region for tornado threats.
5:53
Speaker 2: When we get a two percent, you might see one
5:56
Speaker 2: pop up. But when we get a five percent risk.
5:59
Speaker 2: Generally speaking, we had the conditions are favorable, and we
6:02
Speaker 2: generally see tornado warnings issue.
6:04
Speaker 3: Across parts of our region.
6:05
Speaker 5: And that's for almost all West Virginia. Okay, So our
6:07
Speaker 5: timeframe is, you say, midday, we'll probably get a thunderstorm
6:10
Speaker 5: that'll roll through. Then it may clear out for a
6:13
Speaker 5: little bit, and then and then if we get sun
6:16
Speaker 5: that's not necessarily a good thing.
6:17
Speaker 3: By o'clock.
6:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, if we get sunshine, we and I say this,
6:23
Speaker 2: you might not see the sunshine here. But let's say
6:25
Speaker 2: if Pike full or Wyomy McDowell counties they get sunshine. Uh,
6:30
Speaker 2: you know that's a threat to us because that all
6:33
Speaker 2: the energy that destabilization will get transported for transported further
6:37
Speaker 2: north intor.
6:38
Speaker 5: So, give me an approximate time frame when we could
6:40
Speaker 5: see the severe weather this evening, as you said, no.
6:42
Speaker 2: I think I think that could be around six o'clock
6:45
Speaker 2: to eight. But you know, we've got to watch for
6:48
Speaker 2: the one two o'clock time frame the first one, yep,
6:51
Speaker 2: and then we have to watch for the five to
6:53
Speaker 2: seven eight o'clock collectively across the region because they'll be
6:57
Speaker 2: moving a decent clip and they'll be most likely aligned.
7:00
Speaker 5: For that second round of showers in store. All right, well,
7:03
Speaker 5: we'll keep you updated throughout today. And if you don't
7:05
Speaker 5: follow Brian Hughes on Facebook, make sure you do. He's
7:07
Speaker 5: got pretty maps and everything on there.
7:09
Speaker 4: I try to make it as pretty as possible.
7:10
Speaker 5: All Right, Meteorleig is Brian Hughes. I appreciate you being here.
7:13
Speaker 5: We'll be talking to you on her stations throughout today.
7:15
Speaker 5: Thanks a lot. Ye're welcome. But Dave Allen Show and
7:17
Speaker 5: find Vidielive has brought to you in part by Morgan
7:19
Speaker 5: to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. If you're injured,
7:21
Speaker 5: visit for the people dot com. She wants to be
7:23
Speaker 5: the next mayor of the city of South Charleston. Her
7:25
Speaker 5: name is Susan Castorf and she joins us down Studio.
7:28
Speaker 5: Good morning and welcome to the show.
7:29
Speaker 6: Thank you very much, Davis, good to see you.
7:31
Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. Why do you want to
7:32
Speaker 5: be mayor of South Charleston.
7:34
Speaker 6: I love South Charleston. I am a thirty year resident
7:36
Speaker 6: South Charleston. It is a wonderful place to be. There
7:39
Speaker 6: are a lot of things about South Charleston that are
7:41
Speaker 6: just terrific. But a few years ago I decided I
7:45
Speaker 6: wanted a few chickens in the backyard, went down, looked
7:48
Speaker 6: at the ordinance, went down to get a permit, and
7:51
Speaker 6: that's when things sort.
7:53
Speaker 5: Of went wonkee wonkey, okay.
7:56
Speaker 6: I discovered then that they didn't issue permits to anybody,
8:00
Speaker 6: no matter what their situation was. The city engineer told
8:03
Speaker 6: me that if they were going to give anybody a permanent,
8:05
Speaker 6: be me, but they didn't give them out. And so
8:08
Speaker 6: we went round and around, and the lawsuit was filed
8:11
Speaker 6: and it was then lost at the Circuit Court, and
8:14
Speaker 6: I appealed it to the Supreme Court and they upheld
8:17
Speaker 6: it because the city as soon as the lawsuit was filed,
8:21
Speaker 6: within a few months, they banned chickens and bees completely
8:25
Speaker 6: from the city of South Charleston. And so the City
8:27
Speaker 6: of South Charleston is now up at the legislature and
8:30
Speaker 6: they are fighting a bill to make the Department of
8:34
Speaker 6: Agriculture the arbiter of bee keeping West Virginia. So it's
8:39
Speaker 6: just interesting to me that that's the only municipality that's
8:42
Speaker 6: up there that's kind of pitching a fit about it.
8:45
Speaker 6: But that aside, there is so much about South Charleston
8:50
Speaker 6: that we discovered, you know that the city could do better.
8:54
Speaker 6: It's not very transparent in what they're doing. You can't
8:58
Speaker 6: really find out what they're doing the minutes from the city.
9:02
Speaker 6: Council meetings are not very informative. You can't find out
9:05
Speaker 6: what happened. You have to go and watch the actual meeting.
9:08
Speaker 6: And even so, some of those meetings are really conducted
9:12
Speaker 6: like it's an auction, and it's hard to keep up.
9:14
Speaker 6: It's hard to figure out what's going on. So the
9:17
Speaker 6: more that I looked at it and thought about it,
9:19
Speaker 6: the more I thought, you know, our city deserves to
9:21
Speaker 6: be able to really thrive. And so I think that
9:25
Speaker 6: I am just the person to get in there and
9:29
Speaker 6: dig in, roll up my sleeves and.
9:30
Speaker 4: Get to work.
9:31
Speaker 5: What's your by, what's your background?
9:33
Speaker 6: I was a medical transcriptionist for about thirteen years. I've
9:37
Speaker 6: been a legal secretary for the last twenty eight years.
9:40
Speaker 6: The last fourteen of those I have worked in the
9:42
Speaker 6: public finance sector, so I have worked with bonds and
9:46
Speaker 6: tiff districts and all that kind of stuff. So I
9:50
Speaker 6: know how they work. I know who to call, I
9:52
Speaker 6: know what questions to ask, and I know what to
9:54
Speaker 6: expect there. So I think that puts me in a
9:56
Speaker 6: good position to be able to lead a municipality when
9:59
Speaker 6: it come to borrowing money or doing big projects.
10:04
Speaker 5: You know, go aheaod, no, go ahead.
10:06
Speaker 6: I'm married, been married for almost twenty years to the
10:08
Speaker 6: sweetest man on the planet. Patrick. I absolutely dore you, sweetheart.
10:13
Speaker 5: I'm usually I have to tell I don't want to,
10:15
Speaker 5: you know, be a discriminatory toward guys, But usually I
10:20
Speaker 5: have guys on the show and I have to I
10:21
Speaker 5: have to kind of push them along to say things
10:23
Speaker 5: like that include include your wife. But you jumped right
10:25
Speaker 5: up there, I mean, you know, and thank your husband,
10:27
Speaker 5: so guys could probably learn from you.
10:28
Speaker 6: My husband is all that makes me great.
10:31
Speaker 5: Oh okay, all right then all right then, So South
10:36
Speaker 5: Charleston is an area and you would admit as being
10:39
Speaker 5: a long time resident that has a lot of things
10:40
Speaker 5: going for it. You know, you got the development of
10:42
Speaker 5: park plays, a lot of growth there, opening Jefferson Road projects,
10:45
Speaker 5: so on and so forth. Other than the transparency, which
10:48
Speaker 5: you have an issue with, what else would you like
10:50
Speaker 5: to see to continue the growth in South Charge.
10:52
Speaker 6: Well, I think we need, first of all, we need
10:54
Speaker 6: term limits for our mayor, for our city councilors. And
10:57
Speaker 6: that's because the mayor has been the mayor for eighteen years.
11:00
Speaker 6: Nothing wrong with that, but I think it's time for
11:03
Speaker 6: some new ideas. It's time for some new points of view.
11:06
Speaker 6: And I think that it would be great to limit
11:09
Speaker 6: the terms to two, which means that you work hard
11:12
Speaker 6: to get in office, and then you work hard to
11:14
Speaker 6: get re elected, and then you give someone else a chance.
11:17
Speaker 6: That would also encourage our citizens to get more involved
11:21
Speaker 6: in their local government, which I think is always a
11:23
Speaker 6: good idea. I think we need to better support our citizens.
11:27
Speaker 6: We have a neighborhood that is having constant trouble with
11:30
Speaker 6: the water main. It's breaking. I mean, the lady that
11:34
Speaker 6: I spoke with was telling me almost every other week
11:38
Speaker 6: they're having water main breaks and that's been that way
11:41
Speaker 6: for years. And it took her going to the PSC
11:45
Speaker 6: to help them devise a plan to then talk to
11:47
Speaker 6: the West Virginia American Water who then called the mayor
11:49
Speaker 6: of South Charleston, who then did something. So I think
11:52
Speaker 6: that our government and our city to make it thrive,
11:57
Speaker 6: we really need more proactive risk management. Then we do
12:03
Speaker 6: reactive correction.
12:06
Speaker 5: How's your campaign been so far, it's been great. Have
12:08
Speaker 5: you ever run for office before.
12:09
Speaker 6: I've never run for office.
12:10
Speaker 5: I've never learning experienced.
12:12
Speaker 6: It is a big learning experience. I've never wanted to
12:15
Speaker 6: run for office. I am absolutely not a politician. I
12:18
Speaker 6: am a very much a team player. I want everybody's
12:21
Speaker 6: views on the matter. I want to hear what people
12:23
Speaker 6: have to say because I know I don't know everything,
12:27
Speaker 6: and that's that I think is the best thing you
12:30
Speaker 6: can know about yourself is that you don't know everything.
12:33
Speaker 7: So I.
12:36
Speaker 6: Love South Charleston. I think it's interesting to me that
12:39
Speaker 6: when you tell someone you live in South Charleston, almost
12:41
Speaker 6: always the first thing they say is, you know you
12:44
Speaker 6: get your trash picked up twice a week. And that's
12:46
Speaker 6: certainly true, and that's certainly something that wouldn't change. But
12:50
Speaker 6: we have things we can do. I think we need
12:52
Speaker 6: more festivals to bring more of those tourism dollars in.
12:55
Speaker 6: I think we need to make sure that the logistics
12:57
Speaker 6: that we offer in South Charleston are first rate, and
13:00
Speaker 6: that's road, rail and river. Those things need to be
13:04
Speaker 6: upgraded to make sure that we can offer something to manufacturers.
13:07
Speaker 6: We need manufacturing jobs in there that will offer wages
13:10
Speaker 6: that are more than minimum wage. Minimum wage is great,
13:13
Speaker 6: but it's hard to raise a family. You know, you
13:15
Speaker 6: can't do it on a minimum wage job unless you
13:17
Speaker 6: have more than one. And we don't want that for
13:19
Speaker 6: our families. We want our families to be able to
13:21
Speaker 6: work and enjoy their time together. So we need those
13:24
Speaker 6: kinds of things. We need to better market our city.
13:28
Speaker 6: I don't understand why we don't have an almost Heaven
13:31
Speaker 6: Swing at the Mound. That is a historical landmark, and
13:33
Speaker 6: we should have one. I don't know why we don't.
13:35
Speaker 6: We need to be in the in the guidebooks. We
13:37
Speaker 6: need to be in the tour sites. We need to
13:39
Speaker 6: be on the websites. We need to better market our
13:42
Speaker 6: businesses so people know what businesses we have in South Charleston.
13:45
Speaker 6: There's a lot of talk about all three hundred and
13:47
Speaker 6: eighty two businesses have been licensed in South Charleston, and
13:50
Speaker 6: that's true, but you don't know what they are. There's
13:52
Speaker 6: no place, there's nowhere to find out that information. So
13:56
Speaker 6: the accessibility to that information is really paramount. It needs
13:59
Speaker 6: to be on our city website.
14:01
Speaker 5: Talking to Susan Castorf again, who is a candidate for mayor,
14:04
Speaker 5: in the city at South Charleston. You have a website
14:05
Speaker 5: or social media.
14:06
Speaker 4: I have a.
14:07
Speaker 6: Website, It's www dot Susan the number four scmayor dot com,
14:14
Speaker 6: and I'm on Facebook at Friends of Susan Castorf.
14:18
Speaker 5: Final thirty. Why should someone vote for Susan Castor from
14:21
Speaker 5: mayor of South Charleston.
14:22
Speaker 6: I will be in my office forty hours a week
14:24
Speaker 6: or more. I work hard. I want to listen to
14:27
Speaker 6: what you have to say. I want South Charleston to thrive,
14:31
Speaker 6: and I want my neighbors to have the help that
14:33
Speaker 6: they need when they need it.
14:34
Speaker 3: I want us to.
14:35
Speaker 6: Work excuse me, I want us to work together to
14:38
Speaker 6: make South Charleston absolutely the best that it can be.
14:41
Speaker 5: Appreciate you being here, Good luck with the campaign.
14:43
Speaker 6: Thank you so much.
14:44

15:30

Speaker 10: Additional restrictions may apply a KFC tail in the pursuit
16:22
Speaker 10: of flavor. The greatest insult the Colonel ever suffered was
16:25
Speaker 10: being served a rap that was just a snack by
16:27
Speaker 10: a friend. So he took two crispy tenders lettuce, tomatoes
16:31
Speaker 10: and pepper mayo and wrapped them in a soft tortilla.
16:34
Speaker 10: It wasn't a snack, it was a meal. He called
16:37
Speaker 10: it a twister and never called that friend again. The
16:39
Speaker 10: Colonel lived, so we could chicken the twister now back

17:28
Speaker 5: Capitol today and tomorrow and then that's it for them.
17:33
Speaker 5: Of course, the session will wrap up at midnight on Saturday.
17:36
Speaker 5: We'll check in with them coming up a little bit
17:38
Speaker 5: later on. Also, if you've listened to our sister station
17:41
Speaker 5: one oh seven three to beat here lately, they've got
17:43
Speaker 5: a few minor changes. Now, don't get me wrong, they're
17:45
Speaker 5: not switching the beat to Polka or anything like that,
17:48
Speaker 5: but there's a few minor changes here there. Woody Woods,
17:51
Speaker 5: West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame with the guy at
17:54
Speaker 5: the Beat is scheduled to join us coming up a
17:55
Speaker 5: little bit later on as well. Greg Thomas is here.
17:58
Speaker 13: Hey doing my friend and well, well, busy busy working,
18:03
Speaker 13: all right.
18:04
Speaker 5: We got so we got just a couple of days left.
18:08
Speaker 3: I wasn't I wasn't.
18:09
Speaker 13: Overly busy at the session because, like I work with
18:12
Speaker 13: clients that try to do positive things for the state,
18:15
Speaker 13: So we didn't have a lot of interaction with this legislature.
18:19
Speaker 5: Your to do list, Gregory, wasn't very big, is that?
18:22
Speaker 13: I mean you just pretty much had to like see
18:24
Speaker 13: if you were going to have to play defense and
18:26
Speaker 13: like try to you know, knock something out that wasn't
18:29
Speaker 13: going to help the state. This session hasn't been as bad.
18:32
Speaker 13: The last one really was the worst session ever. I
18:34
Speaker 13: mean last year was absolutely terrib.
18:36
Speaker 5: Said a lot of ground.
18:37
Speaker 13: Man.
18:37
Speaker 5: When you say the worst section.
18:39
Speaker 13: It was though, I mean it was, it was absolutely terrible.
18:43
Speaker 13: And then that's you know, of course, that was the
18:45
Speaker 13: impetus for the candid recruitment effort to go get a
18:47
Speaker 13: bunch of people to run against these guys. And I
18:51
Speaker 13: think by getting all of those folks on the ballot
18:53
Speaker 13: and that competition sort of checked them and made them
18:57
Speaker 13: not do as many crazy things this time. Look, you know,
19:01
Speaker 13: the House of Delegates has done a pretty good job.
19:03
Speaker 13: They had an economic development package of like you know,
19:06
Speaker 13: ten or twelve bills or something like that that they
19:08
Speaker 13: got through. You know, they've been the voice or reason
19:12
Speaker 13: on a lot of different bills to get some positive
19:15
Speaker 13: stuff done and stop some of the you know, silliness
19:18
Speaker 13: that comes over from the Senate to not go through.
19:22
Speaker 13: You know, in the Senate hasn't been as bad as
19:24
Speaker 13: last time, but they're still you know, they're just very
19:27
Speaker 13: big government, right, I mean, they're just you know, they
19:30
Speaker 13: want to it's all about control for those people, and
19:33
Speaker 13: they want to get into your business and you can
19:37
Speaker 13: do this, and we're going to ban that, and we're
19:38
Speaker 13: going to force the company to sell this or not.
19:41
Speaker 13: I mean, it's just you know, no local you know,
19:43
Speaker 13: the Republican Party that that you and I grew up around.
19:47
Speaker 5: But to be fair, I grew up in Logan County.
19:49
Speaker 5: There was no Republican Party that I did. There is
19:52
Speaker 5: now though there is now, But you.
19:54
Speaker 13: Know, when I started, I mean, I'm the first state
19:56
Speaker 13: Senate race I ran in West Virginia was in two
19:58
Speaker 13: thousand and two, and we ran on you know, a
20:02
Speaker 13: conservative platform. Right, it's a lot of the same things
20:06
Speaker 13: that people are running on now.
20:07
Speaker 3: Right.
20:07
Speaker 13: It was jobs, it was local control, you know, some
20:12
Speaker 13: of those things we've done over the last decade, right
20:15
Speaker 13: until this new group got in got in here and
20:18
Speaker 13: we passed a lot of positive things. I mean, we
20:20
Speaker 13: had one of the most conservative state senates in the country,
20:23
Speaker 13: and and then this last couple of years it's just
20:26
Speaker 13: really gone off the rails. And you know that you've
20:30
Speaker 13: got this new wing of the Republican Party that's uh,
20:33
Speaker 13: you know, it's just not republican in my mindment. I
20:35
Speaker 13: don't think it's conservative. It's very very controlling. They just
20:39
Speaker 13: want to tell people what to do. And you know,
20:41
Speaker 13: the lack of focus on jobs is the thing that's
20:44
Speaker 13: going to come.
20:44
Speaker 5: Well, what would you say, though, Greg and I have taken
20:46
Speaker 5: a little criticism for this because I have said exactly
20:49
Speaker 5: those words. What you are saying that when you want
20:52
Speaker 5: more things to come out of Charleston or DC for
20:55
Speaker 5: that matter, if you want more things to come out
20:57
Speaker 5: of the seat of government, that's about as far aren't
21:00
Speaker 5: as away from republicanism conservatism in my opinion, as you
21:05
Speaker 5: can get. But what would you say to those people
21:09
Speaker 5: that have told me and they've called me to text
21:11
Speaker 5: me whatever, so well, you can do more than one thing.
21:13
Speaker 5: You know, you can focus on the economy you can
21:15
Speaker 5: focus on jobs, you can focus on foster care, whatever
21:18
Speaker 5: the case, but still be concerned about fill in name
21:22
Speaker 5: here when it comes to a social issue.
21:25
Speaker 3: No, I think you can. I mean I think look,
21:27
Speaker 3: we did it.
21:27
Speaker 13: We did it for ten years, right, I mean we
21:29
Speaker 13: would have you know, the State Senate would come out
21:31
Speaker 13: and say, Okay, here's the ten bills we're going to
21:33
Speaker 13: focus on, and two or three of them would be
21:35
Speaker 13: social issues and seven or eight of them would be
21:38
Speaker 13: economic issues. And that's how we went about it. I mean,
21:41
Speaker 13: so it's not that the social issue stuff isn't important.
21:44
Speaker 13: There's things that come up. Hey, look, we were the
21:46
Speaker 13: first state to ban trans one of the first states
21:49
Speaker 13: to ban trans gender surgeries on myners, Like, that's a
21:53
Speaker 13: good idea. We should have done that, right. But the
21:57
Speaker 13: problem now, right is like we are a pro life state.
22:00
Speaker 13: Know we we've banned abortion with the exceptions of rape incests,
22:03
Speaker 13: life with the mother, And do you know how many
22:05
Speaker 13: abortions that were last year in West Virginia?
22:07
Speaker 3: Zero?
22:09
Speaker 13: So why were there like seven different abortion bills in
22:11
Speaker 13: this session, you know what I mean?
22:12
Speaker 3: Like we're at zero?
22:14
Speaker 14: Right?
22:14
Speaker 13: Like I do I think it's important, Sure, I do
22:17
Speaker 13: do I think we need.
22:18
Speaker 15: To have this.
22:18
Speaker 5: You've reached your goal?
22:19
Speaker 3: Ye, Like yeah, I mean if something comes up.
22:22
Speaker 13: But it's like, you know, we've we've we have constitutional
22:25
Speaker 13: carry like, like we have a lot of these things.
22:27
Speaker 13: I think what happens you get special interest groups that
22:31
Speaker 13: just exist and need to do something right, and so
22:35
Speaker 13: they come up with something, you know, and then all
22:37
Speaker 13: of these people running for office, it's like, well, I've
22:39
Speaker 13: got to cater to the special interest group that needs
22:41
Speaker 13: something done. And that's fine. You know, I've worked for
22:46
Speaker 13: different I've worked for you know, associations that have a
22:49
Speaker 13: specific focus and stuff like that. I have a full
22:52
Speaker 13: understanding of how that works. But how do you how
22:56
Speaker 13: do you're a West Virginia and not understand our biggest
22:58
Speaker 13: problem is jobs in the economy. How do you not
23:02
Speaker 13: know that? I mean, I guess you wouldn't know that.
23:04
Speaker 13: I feel like you've never been outside the state in
23:07
Speaker 13: your life. Maybe you would know because you wouldn't have
23:09
Speaker 13: anything to compare it to. But with fewer people working
23:12
Speaker 13: than anywhere in the country, and we have, it's been
23:14
Speaker 13: that way for forty years, fifty years.
23:18
Speaker 5: And that's what I'm gonna jump in here. What I'm
23:19
Speaker 5: saying that is a very good point that you bring up,
23:22
Speaker 5: because we have heard constantly Greg, and I did the
23:25
Speaker 5: research on this because I had a guest on the
23:27
Speaker 5: show that said this, and he tends to be a
23:32
Speaker 5: little bit more liberal, but he said on the show,
23:34
Speaker 5: he said West Virginia has had the lowest workforce participation
23:39
Speaker 5: rate since nineteen seventy six. And he was a liberal,
23:43
Speaker 5: and what he was saying was he was saying, everybody
23:45
Speaker 5: wants to blame the Republican Party, this is not a
23:47
Speaker 5: Republican Well, we've had the lowest able bodied workforce participation
23:52
Speaker 5: rate in West Virginia since nineteen seventy six. There were
23:55
Speaker 5: drugs in nineteen seventy six, but it wasn't the opioid
23:58
Speaker 5: crisis that we had in two thousand and five. From
24:01
Speaker 5: in that general timeframe, we got to look to something else.
24:05
Speaker 5: This has been going on for fifty years, Greg.
24:07
Speaker 13: It has and and I think you know, I was
24:12
Speaker 13: on TJ and Dave's show there a couple of weeks ago,
24:15
Speaker 13: and and that we were talking about how the lack
24:17
Speaker 13: of sort of jobs bills, and one of them saying, well,
24:20
Speaker 13: you know, why do you what do you think that is,
24:21
Speaker 13: And I said, well, you know, a quarter of our
24:23
Speaker 13: state senate's not gainfully employed, like they don't they haven't
24:26
Speaker 13: figured out a way to get a job for themselves.
24:28
Speaker 13: How would they be able to figure out how to
24:29
Speaker 13: get a job for somebody else? And I believe that,
24:32
Speaker 13: I mean, I think it's just these folks really don't
24:35
Speaker 13: know how to do it right. And So if you're
24:40
Speaker 13: a voter out here, right and you're like, well, gosh,
24:42
Speaker 13: I want I want my legislature to be focused on jobs.
24:46
Speaker 13: You need to look at your legislative candidates and find
24:48
Speaker 13: out if you have somebody that's created forty jobs, they
24:52
Speaker 13: probably know how to do it. Joe Eddie, our guy
24:55
Speaker 13: up in the Northern Panhandle, he had a business that
24:58
Speaker 13: had four hundred employees. Right, if you just need to
25:02
Speaker 13: look at your legislator and say, hey, is this the
25:04
Speaker 13: kind of person that's been part of a large organization
25:06
Speaker 13: that had a lot of jobs. Does this person have
25:09
Speaker 13: an economic development background or whatever? That's what matters that. Look,
25:15
Speaker 13: if it doesn't matter to you, if you are retired
25:19
Speaker 13: and you don't have any kids, and you don't think
25:21
Speaker 13: you're perfectly content with you know, having the worst economy
25:25
Speaker 13: in the country. And you want to vote on a
25:28
Speaker 13: social issue and make that your thing, that's fine. But
25:31
Speaker 13: we know that the majority of people in West Virginia
25:33
Speaker 13: do want the economy better. Right, we and a growing economy.
25:37
Speaker 13: Let's go to tax cuts, right, and we're dealing with
25:40
Speaker 13: tax cuts right now. You know, the House and Senative
25:43
Speaker 13: both agreed to a five percent tax cut, which I
25:47
Speaker 13: think is a good thing.
25:48
Speaker 3: If I were there, i'd vote for that.
25:49
Speaker 13: I think that I think if they do that, they
25:51
Speaker 13: probably can walk away from this session kind of salvage
25:54
Speaker 13: something to say, hey, I got you a five percent
25:55
Speaker 13: tax cut on the personal when to come tax. But
25:58
Speaker 13: the but the way we got to the biggest tax
26:00
Speaker 13: cut in state history a couple of years ago was
26:02
Speaker 13: we controlled government spending and we grew the economy. Well,
26:06
Speaker 13: that's not what we're doing now. You know, we have
26:08
Speaker 13: not been controlling government spending, we have not been growing
26:10
Speaker 13: the economy. And they're just sort of finding these ways
26:14
Speaker 13: of you know, using money the remnants of that growing
26:18
Speaker 13: economy to kind of pay down stuff so that we
26:20
Speaker 13: can get another tax cut. But if you want to
26:22
Speaker 13: continue to cut taxes in West Virginia, you're going to
26:25
Speaker 13: have to control spending and grow the economy, and we're
26:27
Speaker 13: not doing that stuff. And the biggest way to grow,
26:30
Speaker 13: the easiest way to grow the economy is to bring
26:32
Speaker 13: in new business and new workers, and then you tax
26:35
Speaker 13: those new workers, and those new workers bring students and
26:39
Speaker 13: you know, and then all of a sudden, you know,
26:40
Speaker 13: they're paying taxes to pay for new roads. But if
26:43
Speaker 13: we're going to if we're going to have fewer and
26:45
Speaker 13: fewer people working in an aging infrastructure and a state
26:48
Speaker 13: that's really spread out, you know, I know everybody's been
26:52
Speaker 13: up in arms about the you know, the sixty minutes
26:54
Speaker 13: thing and the water in southern West Virginia whatever. McDowell
26:57
Speaker 13: County had a ton of money fifty years again, sure
27:02
Speaker 13: what like they didn't fix it stuff back then, you
27:05
Speaker 13: know what I mean? Like you I don't know. And
27:08
Speaker 13: right now, you know, we've got a gas boom. There's
27:10
Speaker 13: like things going well where if we weren't pay, if
27:15
Speaker 13: we weren't continuing to pay for the sins of the past,
27:17
Speaker 13: things would be going well right now. But we do
27:19
Speaker 13: have to you know, we're having to rebuild an infrastructure
27:23
Speaker 13: that was nobody messed with for thirty years in West Virginia.
27:27
Speaker 13: You know, it's going to take us a while to
27:28
Speaker 13: catch back up. But you know, my problem with this
27:31
Speaker 13: legislature is there's no sense of urgency at all. You know,
27:35
Speaker 13: I think the House gets it, but you know, they
27:38
Speaker 13: had what ten twelve bills? And I think of the
27:40
Speaker 13: economic development bills in the Senate's past one maybe two,
27:44
Speaker 13: you know, one or two. You know, there's just no
27:47
Speaker 13: sense of urgency at all. And I don't understand it.
27:50
Speaker 13: I mean, you know, I got eleven year old, a
27:51
Speaker 13: thirteen year old.
27:52
Speaker 3: I live here.
27:52
Speaker 13: I mean, but I do think people look at it like, well,
27:55
Speaker 13: things are going well for me. You know what I
27:58
Speaker 13: don't know, man. I mean, if you're in politics and
28:00
Speaker 13: all you're worried about is your title and your stuff
28:03
Speaker 13: and things are going well for you, maybe you shouldn't
28:06
Speaker 13: be involved in.
28:06
Speaker 5: Let me read a text here says Westfviorginia needs jobs
28:09
Speaker 5: and workers, and now the legislature trying to pass the
28:11
Speaker 5: strict or everify law. Barely anyone here wants to work,
28:15
Speaker 5: and their passing laws to restrict hiring of those who.
28:17
Speaker 13: Are working they want. But again it's people that have
28:21
Speaker 13: never been involved in a business people that have never
28:24
Speaker 13: run a business, people have never employed anybody telling employers
28:28
Speaker 13: what they need to do. This is all about control
28:31
Speaker 13: for these folks. I mean, these folks are you know,
28:33
Speaker 13: I've said this before, you know, and as you know,
28:36
Speaker 13: you know, I was you know, instrumental in recruiting in
28:40
Speaker 13: the big campaign to take over the state legislature for
28:43
Speaker 13: the Republicans back in twenty twelve, twenty fourteen. And back
28:48
Speaker 13: then we ran, you know, we ran a bunch of
28:50
Speaker 13: campaigns against big government liberals that wanted to control everything,
28:55
Speaker 13: took all their money from Democrat trial lawyers, did all that,
29:00
Speaker 13: and now we have the same thing. They're just Republicans,
29:02
Speaker 13: you know, and it's the same thing. It's people that
29:05
Speaker 13: are not that have no idea how business works, trying
29:08
Speaker 13: to tell business how to do stuff. You know, this legislature,
29:13
Speaker 13: you know, is doing everything they can to make electricity
29:16
Speaker 13: cost more, to make food cost more, to make you know,
29:20
Speaker 13: your insurance costs more.
29:22
Speaker 5: What are they doing specifically?
29:23
Speaker 3: Can we get well?
29:23
Speaker 13: I mean, you know TJ has been all over that
29:25
Speaker 13: the buill and mandate, the coal use of the power
29:27
Speaker 13: plant stuff which which everybody in the world other than
29:30
Speaker 13: the coal you know, other than the thermal coal companies
29:34
Speaker 13: have come out and said, you know, this is going
29:36
Speaker 13: to increase your electricity rates. And people here already going
29:39
Speaker 13: crazy over electricity rates. But why are we why are
29:42
Speaker 13: our rates higher than anywhere in the country because we
29:44
Speaker 13: don't have any businesses to pay for it. We don't
29:46
Speaker 13: We don't have very many people here. You know, there's a.
29:48
Speaker 5: Team can't would say the math non't math, it doesn't.
29:51
Speaker 13: And it's not going to get I mean we lost
29:53
Speaker 13: and look, we've lost what a couple hundred thousand people
29:57
Speaker 13: over the last you know, ten twelve years whatever it is,
30:00
Speaker 13: or you know, the last twenty years. And we've actually
30:03
Speaker 13: stopped the bleeding over the last ten years. But we
30:05
Speaker 13: lost a couple hundred thousand people that went, but we
30:08
Speaker 13: didn't lose. It wasn't like a spaceship came down and
30:11
Speaker 13: like took two hundred random two hundred thousand random people.
30:16
Speaker 13: There were two hundred thousand people that would be working
30:18
Speaker 13: that left to go work, right, right, and and so
30:22
Speaker 13: who was left people that don't work. And so now
30:27
Speaker 13: you know, you you have to replace those people. You
30:30
Speaker 13: have to replace them. And and the only way you
30:33
Speaker 13: can replace them is by growing businesses are here and
30:35
Speaker 13: bringing in new businesses. And if that is not your focus,
30:38
Speaker 13: and that has not that has been the House Again.
30:41
Speaker 13: The House of Delegates had ten or twelve bills focused
30:43
Speaker 13: on economic development and the Senates passed one or two
30:46
Speaker 13: of them.
30:48
Speaker 3: That's a travesty. And you know it just.

33:50
Speaker 5: is here. I want to switch gears for a moment,
33:53
Speaker 5: and I want to talk about the upcoming campaign, because
33:56
Speaker 5: once the legislature ends on Saturday night, then all the
33:59
Speaker 5: House members are some of the Senate members are up
34:02
Speaker 5: well before we get there. Yesterday there was a the
34:05
Speaker 5: governor had a press event yesterday and I'm gonna play you, Greg,
34:09
Speaker 5: just a little piece of audio. You'll be able to
34:11
Speaker 5: hear it there, and let's just give this a listen.
34:14
Speaker 5: This sounded a little I use the term adversarial, and
34:18
Speaker 5: TJ came back and said, well, that's what we want,
34:21
Speaker 5: is I mean not you know, we want people to
34:23
Speaker 5: have a little debate, which is true. Just listen to
34:25
Speaker 5: this comment from the governor here.
34:27
Speaker 7: Now, I think it's outrageous that here we are at
34:30
Speaker 7: the end of session, had something that should have happened
34:32
Speaker 7: in the first week hasn't occurred yet. Terrible on every level.
34:36
Speaker 7: We may very well pay a price for the delay.
34:39
Speaker 7: Let me be clearer, we may pay a price financially
34:42
Speaker 7: for what's already happened. That's outrageous in every way, and
34:46
Speaker 7: I want everyone in the public to know that. I'm
34:48
Speaker 7: hopeful that they will because we have to mitigate the
34:51
Speaker 7: damage from the delay, and we have to make sure
34:53
Speaker 7: we're moving very, very fast, and I'm hopeful that that
34:57
Speaker 7: will occur.
34:58
Speaker 5: Now, that was about ten o'clock yesterday. Of course he
35:00
Speaker 5: was talking about the battle over budgets and so on
35:02
Speaker 5: and so forth. Does that I mean, if you're not advising,
35:07
Speaker 5: you know, nobody asks you to Governor morrisey. But is
35:10
Speaker 5: that something as that that you think is helpful.
35:15
Speaker 13: I think there are a lot of politicians in the
35:17
Speaker 13: country that try to emulate President Trump, and I don't
35:22
Speaker 13: think anybody else in the country does a very good
35:24
Speaker 13: job of being President Trump, but President Trump. I think
35:29
Speaker 13: what Morsey's referring to here actually is that, oh.
35:33
Speaker 3: Shit, that rural rural Health, Rural.
35:38
Speaker 13: Health Initiative or whatever that he was was doing.
35:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's what he was saying.
35:43
Speaker 13: And uh, you know, and I don't know the details
35:45
Speaker 13: of that. I mean, I think it's I do think
35:47
Speaker 13: it's something these guys are going to do. I think
35:49
Speaker 13: that they're just kind of holding it's it's a negotiation, right,
35:51
Speaker 13: They're like holding it back.
35:52
Speaker 15: And so.
35:56
Speaker 4: I don't know.
35:58
Speaker 13: Morsey just has a different style, right, I mean, I
36:01
Speaker 13: think he did a relatively good job half of his
36:06
Speaker 13: job as Attorney General. He did great. The other half
36:09
Speaker 13: of it, I don't think he did that well. But
36:12
Speaker 13: the half that he did great was when he was
36:14
Speaker 13: just out there sue in the federal government and going
36:16
Speaker 13: after and being adversarial in that way. And I think
36:20
Speaker 13: that's what he is continuing to do as the governor.
36:24
Speaker 13: I think there's a time and place for it. You know,
36:30
Speaker 13: he's gone out and kind of supported some of the
36:33
Speaker 13: state senators that are running for a reelection that I
36:35
Speaker 13: don't think are doing a very good job. I think
36:38
Speaker 13: the best thing that could happen for the governor would
36:41
Speaker 13: be for the challengers to win, to get new leadership
36:45
Speaker 13: in the state Senate and just start fresh. I think
36:49
Speaker 13: that would be the best thing. And I think that
36:51
Speaker 13: if you because because I think a lot of Morrisey's
36:54
Speaker 13: agenda are things that the new pro jobs, pro growth
36:58
Speaker 13: candidates would want to work with them on. So, I
37:02
Speaker 13: I mean, I see what you're saying. I mean, it's
37:05
Speaker 13: just his style, his style, Like I mean.
37:07
Speaker 5: And here's the thing, He's being who he is. Yeah,
37:10
Speaker 5: you know, he's being true to himself. And that's I mean,
37:12
Speaker 5: you know.
37:13
Speaker 13: So it's not I mean, it's but I think I
37:15
Speaker 13: think if he had a clean slate with a new
37:17
Speaker 13: Senate leadership team, he would actually be he would have
37:21
Speaker 13: his most he could potentially have his most successful legislative
37:25
Speaker 13: session if they started over.
37:27
Speaker 5: How much turnover do you think that there'll be. I mean,
37:31
Speaker 5: it's going to be a lot. I mean, I think
37:33
Speaker 5: I think you're I think in the Senate you're probably
37:37
Speaker 5: talking about seven or eight new people coming in. You know,
37:41
Speaker 5: probably a quarter of it'll be new. You know, some
37:45
Speaker 5: of that's retirements and open Republicans. You there's a couple
37:49
Speaker 5: of seats that could go could go Democrat. I think
37:52
Speaker 5: if if Laura Chapman and Wheeling wins her election over
37:57
Speaker 5: Joe Eddie in the primary, I think she'll get beat
37:59
Speaker 5: by flu Hardy in the fall, I think I think
38:01
Speaker 5: we'd lose a seat there. I think the the Olivario
38:04
Speaker 5: Williams race in Morgantown, I heard a lot of people
38:07
Speaker 5: talking about that about it will be competitive.
38:11
Speaker 13: I could see one of the I could see there
38:13
Speaker 13: being a competitive Knaw County race. Maybe you know, the
38:20
Speaker 13: Democrats will go after Chris Meller hard down in Huntington.
38:23
Speaker 13: But Chris works his tail off, you know what I mean,
38:25
Speaker 13: So he'll he'll he'll get it done. But I think
38:27
Speaker 13: they'll give them. They're gonna make them work down there, right,
38:30
Speaker 13: I mean, I think they're going to do that. And
38:31
Speaker 13: I could see the Democrats here in Kennall County find
38:34
Speaker 13: in a state Senate race, if especially if one of
38:36
Speaker 13: the weaker Republicans gets through the primary, I could see
38:39
Speaker 13: them focusing in on one race and probably making it competitive.
38:42
Speaker 5: All right, So as the legislature will wrap up at
38:45
Speaker 5: midnight and then all all the candidates, whether ones you
38:50
Speaker 5: work with or not, will be all hitting the ground running.
38:52
Speaker 5: What do they need to campaign on?
38:55
Speaker 3: Jobs? Right?
38:56
Speaker 13: I mean I think and I think you're seeing that.
38:57
Speaker 13: I mean, you know, you know you've got some candidates
39:01
Speaker 13: here in Kanaw County. Uh, you know doctor Steve Eschenhoer, Right,
39:04
Speaker 13: I mean he's you know, he's got an unbelieve his
39:06
Speaker 13: resume seems like it's unreal, you know what I mean,
39:08
Speaker 13: He's got a great resume that I think he'll be
39:09
Speaker 13: running on on a lot of different fronts. You know,
39:13
Speaker 13: Mike jerushe for states that you know you'd ask me
39:15
Speaker 13: about him and the break and you know Jeruge is
39:17
Speaker 13: somebody that you know has created forty jobs, right. I mean,
39:20
Speaker 13: I think that's the thing he's going to go out
39:21
Speaker 13: there and talk about. You know, Takubo has had a
39:24
Speaker 13: successful business and you know, been a you know doctor,
39:27
Speaker 13: well respected doctor in the area for a long time.
39:30
Speaker 13: I think they're just going to run on their resumes
39:31
Speaker 13: and say, hey, look, here's what I've done in my life,
39:34
Speaker 13: in my you know, the real world, and here's how
39:37
Speaker 13: I'm going to translate that into being an effective legislator
39:42
Speaker 13: and to change the direction of the State Senate so
39:44
Speaker 13: we're focused on issues that actually matter to people.
39:46
Speaker 5: Greg Thomas, it's always a pleasure to have you on

Speaker 5: from ninety eight seven.
43:20
Speaker 4: That's the problem.
43:21
Speaker 5: That's the problem. Here's the thing, here's the thing. All right,
43:26
Speaker 5: guilty And I'm on ninety eight seventh out the day.
43:30
Speaker 5: What it is is I mean, last couple of days,
43:31
Speaker 5: I've had Steve Animal here, had Robert. That's what it was.
43:34
Speaker 5: I wouldn't go say ninety eight seven of the Beat.
43:35
Speaker 5: I was gonna say ninety eight seven the Mountain, but
43:37
Speaker 5: one O seven three the Beat? Yes, all right, we're here,
43:40
Speaker 5: all right, So you got a great show today. Well,
43:42
Speaker 5: I really like the lady from South Charleston time I
43:44
Speaker 5: had one. No, I'm not saying that, man. You know,
43:46
Speaker 5: I'm a I'm a p one. Listen, Susan Castorf running
43:50
Speaker 5: for mayor of South Charleston. All right, So the Beat's
43:54
Speaker 5: been on the here how many years?
43:56
Speaker 4: Since nineteen ninety nine and it's twenty twenty.
43:58
Speaker 5: Six and you've been in the parence.
44:01
Speaker 19: Yeah, they one day ninety in like three months after
44:05
Speaker 19: Kid Conley and Bill Schanne started it.
44:08
Speaker 5: Okay, And all those years, the Beat has been primarily
44:11
Speaker 5: known as how do you do? How would you describe it?
44:15
Speaker 5: R and B hip hop, A little bit of everything.
44:18
Speaker 19: We played like today's the hits of today, and we
44:23
Speaker 19: we did it well. I think we did that well.
44:27
Speaker 19: Twenty six years in and I've seen the transformation of
44:31
Speaker 19: hip hop music.
44:32
Speaker 4: We can all agree.
44:33
Speaker 19: I think that nineties and two thousand's and the twenty
44:37
Speaker 19: ten's was a better era of music than when we
44:39
Speaker 19: got Now, just that's just an old man speaking.
44:42
Speaker 4: Okay, I don't want people jumping.
44:44
Speaker 5: On and you're ten years younger than I am, So
44:46
Speaker 5: there's that. So so the change was made on the beat,
44:53
Speaker 5: It's not good. Like I said earlier, It's not like
44:54
Speaker 5: you're playing poker or something. Now, it's not going to
44:56
Speaker 5: be that big of a change. What's the change.
44:58
Speaker 19: We're just gonna play the hits from the two thousand
45:01
Speaker 19: and twenty tens. Now, we gotta play the Bruno Mars,
45:04
Speaker 19: we gotta play the Nicki Minaj. But the base of
45:07
Speaker 19: it is gonna be Eminem jay Z, Lil Wayne, fifty
45:12
Speaker 19: Cent now, a Ja Rule, the songs that kind of
45:15
Speaker 19: we grew up on, like the and the artist that
45:18
Speaker 19: we grew up on. We And here's the thing, it's
45:21
Speaker 19: not like a switch. It's not like a change of format.
45:25
Speaker 19: We're still gonna be the station in the community. We're
45:27
Speaker 19: still gonna be the station outside.
45:30
Speaker 5: Should be back going on.
45:32
Speaker 19: But we noticed that not going anywhere, not yet knowing okay,
45:38
Speaker 19: we noticed that once we went from ninety eight seven
45:42
Speaker 19: to one oh seven three, we needed a big change
45:45
Speaker 19: there because the station change, it went from a different frequency.
45:49
Speaker 19: And like you just said, it's still drained in people's heads,
45:54
Speaker 19: that's ninety eight seven, ninety eight seven, because it's been
45:56
Speaker 19: drains since nineteen ninety nine.
45:58
Speaker 4: I still call the WWE w W yeah, because that's
46:02
Speaker 4: what I grew up with. So we switching the logo
46:05
Speaker 4: a little bit.
46:05
Speaker 5: The logo's brighter.
46:07
Speaker 4: It's uh, it's pretty. I'm excited for this.
46:09
Speaker 5: So what do you call it? What's the moniker on it?
46:11
Speaker 4: It's hip hop and throwback?
46:12
Speaker 5: Hip hop and throwbacks. What are the chances old guy,
46:15
Speaker 5: really old guy?
46:16
Speaker 7: Here?
46:16
Speaker 5: You call yourself old guy? I'm really old guy? What
46:18
Speaker 5: the chances we could back it up just a little bit,
46:20
Speaker 5: throwing a little run DMC and okay, but make your class.
46:24
Speaker 5: I texted you about a year so ago. I'm driving
46:26
Speaker 5: home and because what he does whatever he wants to
46:28
Speaker 5: do in the afternoon anyway, and I heard you were playing.
46:30
Speaker 5: I think it was like it's tricky or something like that.
46:32
Speaker 5: That's my That was my junior year of high school
46:34
Speaker 5: and that song came out. Although what's going to say.
46:37
Speaker 5: What you got to understand is music is ever evolving.
46:41
Speaker 5: And I tried to explain this to people. I had
46:44
Speaker 5: talking to my neighbor, who's one of my greatest guys
46:47
Speaker 5: in the World's attle bit older than I am, and
46:49
Speaker 5: he says, he's talking about the mountain, you know, And
46:52
Speaker 5: he says, I hear you. You're on Sundays and you
46:54
Speaker 5: say classic, but I don't hear Bill Hayley, and I
46:56
Speaker 5: don't hear Elvis whatever. I get that, and there's a
46:58
Speaker 5: place for all that. However, music goes in cycles, right
47:02
Speaker 5: and everything everything. I hate to drop this on people.
47:07
Speaker 5: Retro right now is two thousand and six. Yes, that's
47:10
Speaker 5: what retro is. Right now. It's two thousand and six.
47:12
Speaker 5: Nobody want it, wants to hear that, okay, but it's
47:16
Speaker 5: on twenty year cycles and it's all you know, that
47:19
Speaker 5: person that was listening to the music you're talking about
47:23
Speaker 5: when they were young, their high school, middle school, college, whatever.
47:27
Speaker 5: Those are the people now that are in their forties.
47:31
Speaker 5: And that's the people now, that's what we call pe ones.
47:33
Speaker 5: That's the people that are buying the houses, buying the cards,
47:36
Speaker 5: so on and so forth.
47:38
Speaker 19: Country music went through this about five six years ago,
47:41
Speaker 19: that the music just wasn't good. It is not our fault,
47:45
Speaker 19: it's not the DJ's fault. We don't make the music.
47:47
Speaker 19: It's just like you said, to go through cycles, and
47:49
Speaker 19: sometimes in music's not good. We in a cycle in
47:53
Speaker 19: hip hop music that is not good. If Kendrick Lamar
47:55
Speaker 19: wasn't in our format, it'd be hard. He saved it.
47:59
Speaker 19: At one point. This is wish I was lying. We
48:02
Speaker 19: was Kendrick Lamar Radio like it was. It was Kendrick
48:05
Speaker 19: all the time, just because the number one hits he
48:09
Speaker 19: had and he did the Super Bowl. I mean he
48:11
Speaker 19: went on tour, the biggest hip hop tour out just
48:14
Speaker 19: Kendrick Lamar Radio.
48:15
Speaker 5: All right, and so we want to urge people to
48:17
Speaker 5: go check it out. No, you're gonna hear some new
48:19
Speaker 5: voices on there as well. Like I said, you're not
48:21
Speaker 5: going anywhere, but we've added Logan Scott. Logan Scott who
48:24
Speaker 5: you also hearing V one hundred. He's doing some stuff
48:26
Speaker 5: and are we ready to talk about her girl yet. Yeah,
48:28
Speaker 5: Jessica Martin, you probably see her on Facebook. You can't
48:32
Speaker 5: mess her on Facebook.
48:33
Speaker 4: She is everywhere. I just I was watching on Facebook.
48:35
Speaker 4: She was at the girl's tournament last night.
48:36
Speaker 5: She left hit her on the show about a month
48:39
Speaker 5: or so ago, and I didn't even know her, but
48:41
Speaker 5: I'd seen she was constantly popping up on social media.
48:44
Speaker 5: And I want, it's interesting to me how the influencers work.
48:48
Speaker 5: She does, so we influenced. She influenced us so well.
48:50
Speaker 19: We hoighly hired her, influenced it so good, and we
48:54
Speaker 19: got another surprise of familiar voice that was on to
48:57
Speaker 19: beat about fifteen years ago come back off.
49:01
Speaker 5: So all right, yeah that might happen next week. So
49:03
Speaker 5: it's good stuff, and we wanted to I heard you
49:06
Speaker 5: the other day, you know, encouraging people download the app. Yes,
49:09
Speaker 5: you know, because the days of everybody. I mean, I
49:11
Speaker 5: know a lot of people listen to us on the radio,
49:13
Speaker 5: the old fashioned radio in the car, even in their home.
49:15
Speaker 5: We appreciate that, but most people are listening to it
49:18
Speaker 5: on some sort of a device.
49:19
Speaker 15: You know what.
49:20
Speaker 19: I was taking a shower today this morning, and guess
49:24
Speaker 19: what I was listening to Dave Allan on that.
49:26
Speaker 5: While you were in the show wh I was in
49:27
Speaker 5: the sex Buddy, you feel good about that? The image
49:31
Speaker 5: I didn't need so, uh. But download the app, the
49:35
Speaker 5: w v RC Media App. We always kind of drive
49:38
Speaker 5: people there because it's got all of our stations on it,
49:40
Speaker 5: and you can literally go to listen to all of
49:42
Speaker 5: our stations to Charleston. You want to check out what's
49:44
Speaker 5: going on in Morgantown, it's on there, the w A
49:46
Speaker 5: j R, w v a Q, they're all on there
49:49
Speaker 5: if you do, if you download the WVRC, But however
49:51
Speaker 5: you decide to download it, check it out because I
49:53
Speaker 5: think I think you're really going to like it.
49:55
Speaker 19: And I think a lot of people, especially if they
49:56
Speaker 19: went to the U, they went to WVU, they listened
49:59
Speaker 19: to va and you can still listen to VAQ. I
50:02
Speaker 19: listened to VQ. I download the app, I listen to them.
50:05
Speaker 19: It's it's just a great app to have that Metro
50:07
Speaker 19: News on there too. Yeah, yeah, Metro News.
50:09
Speaker 5: I mean the majority of our listeners right now on
50:11
Speaker 5: w c HS, it's approven fact, the majority of people,
50:14
Speaker 5: it's not even close that listen to news talk or
50:17
Speaker 5: sports listen on an app. They don't listen on the
50:19
Speaker 5: traditional radio. That's where my trust me. If the app
50:21
Speaker 5: goes out, you know it, all right, So so listen
50:25
Speaker 5: to the all new one o seven point three the Beat.
