Spellbreakers Ep. 186: Halloween Horror Trailers Pt I - Beginnings of Cinema to Rosemary’s Baby
Matt Trump opens a two-part Halloween special on the history of horror movies, which he calls the most American genre of the most American art form, with classic trailers along the way. He goes from Caligari, Nosferatu and Lon Chaney to Universal's Dracula and Frankenstein, Tod Browning's Freaks, the Hays Code years and Val Lewton's Cat People. Then come the 1950s monsters, Hammer's Dracula, William Castle's The Tingler, Psycho, The Haunting, Sharon Tate in Eye of the Devil, and 1968's Rosemary's Baby and Night of the Living Dead. Part 2 starts next week with The Exorcist.
