- 0:19Music. And we're live.
- 0:32Welcome to the All Balls No Philtre podcast.
- 0:34Live from the cabin kitchen. I'm Zach.
- 0:37He's Brad. Hi there.
- 0:40And behind the scenes, we have a man that once ran a 7 second 40
- 0:43yard dash downhill. He's researcher Cal.
- 0:50Oh, bless him. I love that we started with
- 0:52these titles as in like been really nice and positive and
- 0:55kind of like expressed like, as you know, begin him up.
- 0:59But now it's just like pure ridicule and I love it.
- 1:01I'm here for it. I mean, there might be a few
- 1:05nice I've got to find the nice ones is what it is.
- 1:07I've got to find the nice ones out is what it is about him.
- 1:09These are just all facts. What do you mean find them?
- 1:12We're going to say that it's absolutely factual about
- 1:14researcher Kel. Exactly, I've got to try and
- 1:16find nice things. These ones are less than nice
- 1:19things. But anyway mate, how are you
- 1:21doing today? How are you?
- 1:23Yeah, I'm, I'm all right. I feel a bit detached from
- 1:26reality this last few days. It's been a, a whirlwind of a
- 1:29few days. But yeah, I'm good.
- 1:30I'm, I'm really good, just as normal, just plodding along.
- 1:35You know how it is, mate. How about you?
- 1:37I'm not going to lie, I'm full of it.
- 1:40I'm coming down with the dreaded man flu from what it feels like.
- 1:44So I want everyone just took a moment of silence.
- 1:45Feel sorry for me because it's it's here.
- 1:48So I'm just going to quickly give you an apology in advance
- 1:51that if you hear me sniffling, I'm going to try my best to not
- 1:53do. All right.
- 1:54But we soldiering on, we're here.
- 1:58I'm pleased though that time when you were like, oh if you
- 2:01hear me sniffling I apologise. And you didn't actually put the
- 2:04big snore in before. We always do a bit of a pre show
- 2:08like before we start recording and Zach say, oh, I'm really
- 2:11sorry if if I sniffle be in college.
- 2:16Like what on earth is this carnage?
- 2:18You know, we got to do what we got to do.
- 2:20I'm here. I'm trying to clear myself up,
- 2:22but we're all good anyway. Brad, what have we got in store
- 2:25for today's show? So we'll start off by, as
- 2:31always, getting the world's smallest violin out for Zach and
- 2:35then we'll quite swiftly move on to the headlines, I guess that
- 2:39are coming through from the week.
- 2:41I think bit of a weird one this week.
- 2:43So a lot of the headlines are going to sort of blend into some
- 2:45of our offseason topics. Obviously, we've got the combine
- 2:49to touch on and we've got sort of some trades starting to come
- 2:54through. We're leading up to that free
- 2:56agency and of course, coming with that are cuts, trades,
- 3:00tags, etcetera. And then as always, we've got
- 3:04our all of the ball segment and for the second time now enjoyed
- 3:08it last week. We've got I can't speak where we
- 3:11touch on a passion of Zack and I's the rugby league world.
- 3:17Yeah, a jam packed one I think, but exciting nonetheless.
- 3:21Yeah, it's has always got quite a bit to go through so we're
- 3:24going to start off get into it. The news headlines from this
- 3:27week. The Bears Centre has hung up his
- 3:30cleats at the age of 27 years old.
- 3:34What's going on there? Drew Dolman, the centre from the
- 3:38Bears has decided that he's he's retiring after I believe was it
- 3:42five years in the in the NFL, which is is a shock.
- 3:47I think whatever whatever they expected across.
- 3:49I might be wrong there, but whatever they expected.
- 3:51This is news that I've just come in within the past couple of
- 3:53hours. I was kind of prepping for the
- 3:55show. So it's still relatively fresh
- 3:57for us. But yeah, Bear centre 27 year
- 4:00old hanging his cleats up. We've also got the franchise tag
- 4:04deadline ended 10 minutes ago. So we have got research.
- 4:08Carly's frantically, you imagine like the hamster on a wheel
- 4:10trying to get power on the go. That's research.
- 4:13Carl, working behind the scenes now getting more information
- 4:16about these franchise tags and what's happened and if anything
- 4:18has happened. So we will bring them to you as
- 4:20soon as we can. And as well, we got the
- 4:23quarterback carousel, some news throughout the show about the
- 4:27quarterbacks and about where they stand and what's going on
- 4:29with them. But we're going to touch on that
- 4:31towards it. Brad, anything from yourself
- 4:33regarding the news that you've we've just, we've just gone on.
- 4:37I think they're starting to come through now.
- 4:39This is this is probably my, I'll probably say this is my
- 4:42favourite time of the offseason. I actually think I prefer it to
- 4:45the draft. Like the draft's so unknown in
- 4:48terms of what you're actually going to get out of and when you
- 4:50convert to the NFL. But the free agency friends is
- 4:53like kind of where it at, where it's at.
- 4:54You've got these names, everyone knows them, everyone knows the
- 4:56impact and it's where it starts setting up that draft.
- 5:01Free agency is what really leads us to OK, right, we've got an
- 5:05idea now what this team's actually going to do.
- 5:07So it's probably my favourite bit from like a, a logistical
- 5:12side of running an NFL team that I really enjoy.
- 5:15Obviously training camp's great, but no, it's good that it's
- 5:18starting to come through now. I'm excited for it.
- 5:20Yeah, there's a lot of mock draughts getting sent out there,
- 5:23which is it's always fun to see and there's some outrageous ones
- 5:26that get put out, but kind of pick one O ones pretty much
- 5:30nailed on and the combines showing the other potentials
- 5:33because obviously they didn't really take take part in it did
- 5:35Mendoza. So you're showing some of the
- 5:38other parts. We're going to get into the
- 5:39combine now. Going to touch on this because
- 5:42the combine's now finished. We have had some quite big the
- 5:48results as such with them. First of all, the the Vanderbilt
- 5:53tight end Eli Stowers or Stowers.
- 5:55I'm not too sure how to pronounce his surname jumps A455
- 5:59right in the vertical jump. Now he that's that's the second
- 6:04highest in history. Is that now the first one was a
- 6:09guy called Josh E Mot or baby Emote baby.
- 6:13Anyway, look his name, right? I, I, I googled how to pronounce
- 6:18it and I've got it down here at the side of it, right?
- 6:20But yeah, he wasn't, he went to the Jaguars and in 2021 he got
- 6:25the second height. He got the he got the highest,
- 6:27sorry, vertical jump, I think like 46 inch or something like
- 6:31that. So he's not too far off in Eli
- 6:33Star Wars, but coming in here, that's a ridiculous.
- 6:36He was a 1 1/2 inch jumping jumping 1 1/2 inch higher than
- 6:42everybody else in in the class, which is ridiculous when you
- 6:45think about it. There's a still screenshot
- 6:47knocking about of the jump and it's ludicrously high.
- 6:52Like I. Mean it's not even just that,
- 6:56though. It's it's it's actually set.
- 6:59I think a record, isn't it since 2003 for the highest vertical
- 7:04ever at the event. But then adds to that.
- 7:07The broad jump I think was 11 foot plus.
- 7:12Like it was just massive. I know, I know he had the record
- 7:15for that as well. Like he's just a machine.
- 7:18He's 40 yard dash was 4.512 something like that.
- 7:23Like he's just a machine. And when you think of that, it's
- 7:276 foot 4 and 239 lbs. It's insane.
- 7:31Like it's been a good few years for tight ends.
- 7:35Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:37Is he top five? Is he top five now?
- 7:39Top. 10 I mean, I'd go, I'd go towards, you know, an outsider
- 7:43saying top ten because the the the the Travis Kelsey and Rob
- 7:46Gronkowski era of I know they're quite at the back end of their
- 7:49careers now, but they've set a they've set a standard for the
- 7:52tight ends being these mobile, not just blockers, non sexual
- 7:57alignment, these agile hybrid runners, blockers, you know,
- 8:02catchers that they've set that kind of that kind of stead for
- 8:07it now and having someone that can come and do this, that can
- 8:09jump high like they can Randy Moss people if he needs to and
- 8:13can, can run relatively like really fast for a tight end for
- 8:16a big guy. He's he's draft stock.
- 8:18As long as he can catch him all his draft stocks up and to the
- 8:20right for sure. Like it's it's wild to see and
- 8:25research college probably into his chat.
- 8:26The the picture I mean to try and get onto a socials at some
- 8:30point, but it is mental how high this guy jumps absolutely crazy
- 8:37for it. Speaking of his 40 yard dash,
- 8:40this has been like the fastest running back class in in history
- 8:44of the combat. Not the fastest overall, but
- 8:46just for the running backs, which shows good kind of stock
- 8:50in them guys as well. The wide receiver class though,
- 8:53coming through 4.26 by Brennan Thompson, the Mississippi wide
- 8:58receiver, it's just showing that there's a constant speed and the
- 9:0340 yard dash for for people like receivers and running backs is
- 9:08such an important key. And there were a video that got
- 9:11posted out round X and it was so it was circulating around X of
- 9:14Brendan Thompson and Xavier Worthies 40 yard dashes
- 9:18together. And there was there's like what
- 9:20is the .0 for him in both of the 05 sorry, in between both and 40
- 9:26yard dashes. But the the distils look look
- 9:30worlds apart. It looked worlds apart and it's
- 9:33you look at the time .04 and you're like geez, that you look
- 9:36at the distils of the of the video and it's just it looked
- 9:38massively. Apart, it's mad though, isn't
- 9:42it? Like because obviously I know
- 9:43obviously we're talking about completely different sport here,
- 9:45but we're both quite into our Formula One as we've touched on
- 9:48in previous episodes. And when when you get down to
- 9:50those milliseconds, you know, we're talking like 10th, we're
- 9:55talking hundredths of a second here.
- 9:57So you know, .5 difference. And then in Formula One, when
- 10:02you're talking about like thousandth thousandths of a
- 10:05second and it looks just well, because of the actual speed
- 10:09they're going obviously in this much smaller distance,
- 10:13significantly high speed athletes here.
- 10:18And I think we're seeing it more and more out with like it wasn't
- 10:21too long ago where getting sub 4.3 was huge, like huge.
- 10:26And now it's just it's happening every year like that.
- 10:28I think just they're becoming more athletic, more powerful
- 10:31every year, which is mad, mad. It's the industry standard
- 10:35you've got. You've got Speaking of like the
- 10:38receiver side of things. Well, not just the speed.
- 10:40You've got the Arizona State wide receiver, Jordan Tyson,
- 10:43who's who's Rico who's done 26 reps on the bench press, right,
- 10:48which which is great, absolutely fantastic, like 26 reps on the
- 10:51bench press for a receiver, which is 9 short of Aaron
- 10:54Donald's record right And Aaron Donald is not a receiver right,
- 10:59226 reps sorry, 225 lbs Thank you research Cal and nine shy of
- 11:05Aaron Donald. They're comply.
- 11:07They're worlds apart when it comes down to position wise in
- 11:11particular. So this is a great showing now
- 11:14for the receivers coming out strong as well, not just fast,
- 11:17but they're coming out strong. So this combine has shown a lot
- 11:21when in in terms of the, the, the diversity of, of, of
- 11:25players. Is that, is that the right word?
- 11:26I'm thinking of? They're like just the different
- 11:28skills and, and what they can show, not just the standard
- 11:31skills that you think for a receiver or for running back and
- 11:34things like that. It's, it's not it's good to see,
- 11:36it's exciting, makes it makes the draft more exciting because
- 11:39people's draft stock then becomes a lot higher.
- 11:46There's also. It's an interest.
- 11:48It's an interesting sort of weak really, isn't it?
- 11:51Because you see those names that are floating around say like the
- 11:54low first rounders and then suddenly because they're showing
- 11:58like pure athleticism end up in that top end, like top ten, top
- 12:0415 draft when we know it's not always, we know it doesn't
- 12:09always convert. You know, thinking about well,
- 12:13Anthony Richardson, we might touch on him a little bit later,
- 12:16but he was drafted on very few reps in the college game purely
- 12:21based on his pure athleticism. I mean, I'm just looking now
- 12:27that the receiver record for the bench press, forgive me if this
- 12:31is wrong. It's just a real quick research
- 12:33while we're chatting now. It was set in 2001 by Kevin
- 12:37Casper and it was 27 reps, So one Rep short of the record
- 12:43there, which, you know, arguably you'd maybe say Aaron Donald may
- 12:46be underperformed when you start looking at.
- 12:48The position as well. But still impressive
- 12:51nonetheless. You know, as a receiver putting
- 12:53that sort of record on show, Yeah, brilliant.
- 12:56It's it's huge. It's absolutely huge.
- 12:58But there's one main talking point that I want to take from
- 13:01this draft and I think this this this skill in particular has
- 13:06sent his draft stock up and gone is that he's definitely moved up
- 13:09X amount of places. I think he's shown with this in
- 13:12this is this skill in particular just over over, you know,
- 13:16diamond in the rough type type pick here and and that's
- 13:20Jennings Duncan from Iowa. This man has to have the best
- 13:25haircut I've ever seen in my life.
- 13:27He has the big ginger mullet. If you haven't seen this guy's
- 13:3240 yard dash, go check it out in the NFL.
- 13:35It's not good. NFL sent reposted in slow motion
- 13:39and his hair is just bouncing. Absolutely I go like the locks
- 13:44are going through. I'm all all for that.
- 13:46Like he's great. It is great to see and like
- 13:51every church guy was probably picture in there and you can see
- 13:53a picture of him. Wow, I am all for this.
- 13:56Like this guy here is that he brings this typical Texas Texan
- 14:02look, if that makes sense. I I love this.
- 14:04He's he's my favourite. He's my favourite player from
- 14:07this combine without doubt. That really famous Texan look,
- 14:11The ginger mullet. Yeah, worldwide known.
- 14:14I don't know, there's just something about it that gives
- 14:17that that gives that like Outback kind of look.
- 14:20I don't know. He's my he's my favourite.
- 14:22He's my he's the guy I'm rooting for him in the draft.
- 14:25He's he should go one of one just because of of of the
- 14:29hairstyle on this. But that's the kind of the talk
- 14:33of the town when it comes down to the draft.
- 14:35We've hit the main points there, just if you have one.
- 14:38Guy we're forgetting here. There's one fact, one guy we're
- 14:40forgetting. I think in my eyes anyway, like
- 14:43I don't, I don't pretend to be a massive combined guy.
- 14:47I think, you know, we touched on it a lot last year, last week.
- 14:50Sorry, God, we're doing that again.
- 14:51When we were talking about last year and it was last week, we
- 14:55touched on it last week as to why we're not necessarily overly
- 14:58combining people. But Sonny Styles, like the guy
- 15:03had an absolute beast of a combine for, you know, your
- 15:09linebackers typically are not necessarily high value picks in
- 15:15a draft, but this guy's gone first across the linebackers in
- 15:202026. He's gone first all time along
- 15:23linebackers for the vertical jump 43.5 inch, and then he's
- 15:29gone 4th all time and all linebackers for the broad jump.
- 15:32I think that guy, when we're talking about those who suddenly
- 15:34pushed their stock up from like low first round, second round
- 15:37picks to top end first round, I think you could see him going
- 15:44maybe even the top 10 for me. Where is it projected?
- 15:48Is that sort, you know what, I've not, I've not necessarily
- 15:51looked since the combine. I know previously it was sort of
- 15:56like you look maybe low end 1st and sort of into the 2nd and 3rd
- 15:59rounds, like maybe not third round, but a second day pick.
- 16:02Like your linebackers typically aren't those high value picks,
- 16:05are they? Like you look at your offensive
- 16:07tackles, you look at your quarterbacks, you look at your
- 16:11edge rushers. They're the positions that tend
- 16:15to get over inflated and we'll probably see it this year.
- 16:18You know, there's probably 1 quarterback that deserves to go
- 16:20first round, but will we see two maybe those positions get
- 16:26inflated whereas Sonny Styles is is gone out and I guess done
- 16:32what the combine's about and what we've spoke about like you
- 16:35can massively, massively help you stock and it's going to be a
- 16:38first round pick, I think after this weekend.
- 16:41Well, and he's he's got his brother as well and he's the
- 16:43brother Liz Lorenzo. It was a safety out there and
- 16:46he's recording a 4.27 in the 40 as well.
- 16:50And obviously you kind of expect the safety to be a bit quicker
- 16:53than a linebacker, but that's more of a showing for his
- 16:56brother Sonny, of how good of a player he is when he's, you
- 17:00know, he's close to his safety. Brothers, I.
- 17:04Mean Sonny Styles is 6 foot 5 and he's 244 lbs.
- 17:09Jesus, it's crazy. In that vertical and that broad
- 17:13jump, it's nuts. It's absolutely.
- 17:14Nuts. At what point do athletes just
- 17:17stop? Like, because if you think about
- 17:19it, they're just getting better and better each year.
- 17:21At what point do they just stop? Because what?
- 17:24At what point can they just not get any better than what they
- 17:26are? Aaron Donald, when he first came
- 17:27into the NFLU, he was a right. He was the specimen.
- 17:31He was the he was the man to be. And now you go, you're looking
- 17:37at like, the likes of like, you know, Max Cosby and people like
- 17:40that, and, you know, Miles Garrett and stuff, who are
- 17:44arguably on par with Aaron Donald, they're not making him
- 17:48shine as much. Does that make sense?
- 17:49Like, what point do athletes just stop being good at stuff?
- 17:54He's crazy. God damn athletes, we just stop
- 17:57being athletes already. I know right?
- 17:59Stop putting all your life and solving making it all bad, you
- 18:02know, but that is the combine there now guys, if you have if
- 18:06you are listening to this by the way, you want to see some of the
- 18:08stats on your screen. We have a YouTube channel and
- 18:11Spotify. If you listen on Spotify shows
- 18:13the video as well. Please check it out have a look
- 18:16all the stuff on there. So if you are listening in the
- 18:18background, you can kind of just a quick glance over and catch up
- 18:21to where we are just of course, all the social as well, ABNF pod
- 18:25and all your socials. Go check it out there.
- 18:27If you do find us on YouTube and stuff, hit the subscribe button
- 18:30and just drop a video like if you don't mind.
- 18:32It helps us out more than I can ever, ever tell you.
- 18:35It's great to just kind of get us out on the algorithm.
- 18:38But combine's done, draft stocks kind of getting done and dusted
- 18:43and moving around. Now people are going to get in
- 18:45there set in stone, but there's plays in the NFL now that are
- 18:49either getting tagged, going to free agency, are getting traded.
- 18:53So I want to touch on a few of these guys, Brad, because
- 18:55there's been since last week, there's been a bit of an update
- 18:59with the whole situation. And two players in particular,
- 19:05in fact three players now actually just prior to this,
- 19:07prior to the pod, and that is Carl Pitts, Pickens and Breece
- 19:11Hall have all been franchised tagged.
- 19:15Now we I say we, I definitely said two of these three was
- 19:20probably going to get franchise tagged and one of them should
- 19:24part ways with the team because it's just not working out.
- 19:26I'm very surprised Breece Hall has had that tag, but on him as
- 19:31much of a good player he is. And I think obviously The Jets
- 19:33know is a great player, but I don't think he's right for the
- 19:35organisation. I just don't.
- 19:39I just think he they're, they're starting again out, they're like
- 19:43they're going to have a different quarterback.
- 19:45The rumour is that Justin Fields won't be there next year and he
- 19:50wasn't good enough this year. And I'm not necessarily a anti
- 19:56Justin Fields guy. You tend to get like 2 camps
- 20:00with Justin Fields and I'm I'm probably quite comfortable in
- 20:04the middle, but I thought he had potential there to be fair, but
- 20:08it just wasn't right. I mean The Jets.
- 20:11Organisation as a whole is a shit show and, and the season
- 20:13was like that anyway. But I think having a running
- 20:17back like Bruce Hall, who's still young, he's got potential.
- 20:22I think the tag's a good move. I think you kick the can down
- 20:27the road for another year at least.
- 20:28Maybe they'll re sign him, who knows?
- 20:30I, I don't know, but they, they've got him for another year
- 20:35at least. Maybe they trade him, maybe
- 20:37they, you know, they re sign him, but it just provides a bit
- 20:41of a foundation for whoever they get in to play quarterback to be
- 20:46under centre. You you need that run game
- 20:50there. You need someone who can play to
- 20:52support that. And I think The Jets need that.
- 20:54So I I don't think it's a bad move.
- 20:55Actually, it's probably quite sensible move from The Jets in
- 20:58my opinion. I mean, it it a big team, if he
- 21:01came up against them at some point in front of the team and
- 21:03just run by it over him. I, I, I get it and I get it's a
- 21:06smart move. I just think as like the The
- 21:09Donald and the Baker Mayfield, the history shows, I just think
- 21:12sometimes a player can not be the right fit for the
- 21:15organisation. Now talking on like Justin
- 21:18Fields, he kind of falls into that same category of and we'll
- 21:22talk about that in like the Kylo Murray situation, which is not
- 21:24as good in my opinion. But with Justin Fields, he shows
- 21:27that. He shows that promise for like
- 21:311/4 every three games. But that but that promise that
- 21:34he shows that for that 1/4 every three games, it makes people
- 21:38trust that he's going to have this amazing season.
- 21:40And then he just does the stupidest things for the
- 21:44remaining 3/4 and it just all goes downhill for it.
- 21:47But you know this I mean. Go back 6-7 years.
- 21:52Go back 6-7 years and you're talking about the Super Bowl
- 21:54winning quarterback. Well, yeah.
- 22:00It's, it's the same thing, isn't it?
- 22:01Like you've, you've got a guy who he was in the Bears when
- 22:03they were a dumpster fire. He's now at The Jets and that is
- 22:07they're a dumpster fire. Like get the guy in an
- 22:10organisation that has the right team around him and knows how to
- 22:13use him, maybe he'll have an opportunity and.
- 22:15We've seen that. More and more, yeah.
- 22:17And that's what we need now, isn't it?
- 22:19Like it's just the way the way the league is.
- 22:22So we've seen it with we've seen it with Mayfield and Donald, the
- 22:26two that you mentioned. He he's just not, I don't think
- 22:31he's had the right team around him.
- 22:32And there's researcher Cal piping up.
- 22:35He was four and two at Pittsburgh and he got benched.
- 22:37Yeah, fine, he was. And you know, there's probably a
- 22:40lot of politics behind that move, but Steelers weren't the
- 22:44right organisation around him either.
- 22:46Like he needs to go somewhere with the a good offensive mind
- 22:49around him who's going to drive him forwards like Donald had
- 22:53over the last two seasons. You know, he had KOC, Yeah,
- 22:57Kubiak. And they've driven him forward.
- 22:59And look at him now. He's a Super Bowl champion,
- 23:00which he'd have never said that however long ago.
- 23:03You know he left The Jets now. You're right.
- 23:06No, you're right, mate. And I, I, I'm, I'm not a Fields
- 23:11hater. I think Fields has the potential
- 23:12to be better than a lot of QBs. And again, it is that it is that
- 23:15fit when it comes down to it. And I, and I do.
- 23:18Speaking of QBs, though, one QB that has, hasn't been franchise
- 23:22tagged, but he's been transition tagged is Indiana Jones himself.
- 23:27Daniel Jones stayed at the Colts for at least one more year.
- 23:30What can they do? This transition tag, by the way,
- 23:32is worth $37.8 million. So they're they're looking at
- 23:37this knee injury that he had, but he's not going to be quick.
- 23:41Look, I say it's a weird one for me.
- 23:42Is this because when he had this knee injury, he's not destined
- 23:45to be coming back for the start of the season.
- 23:49They're already talking. They've already told Anthony
- 23:51Anthony Joshua, Anthony Richardson that he can look for
- 23:55a new club secret trade. So what do they do starting QB
- 23:59for the week one game because Daniel Daniel Jones is not going
- 24:02to have a pre season. He's not going to have a mini
- 24:04camp prior will be at OTAs like what they're going to do week 1.
- 24:09And if they've only tagged him for a year and he comes back mid
- 24:15season, he's got to get back into the swing of things.
- 24:18If you're making a playoff run with a QB that's got you there
- 24:20from Week 1, what do you do with this?
- 24:23Now don't get me wrong, it's Penny.
- 24:24It's a different, it's Penny, isn't it for them, but.
- 24:28I think it's a really clever move.
- 24:29Again, like I think there's, I think with these tags pre free
- 24:32agency and the moves we're making so far, maybe not all of
- 24:35them, but I think it's, it's a really clever move because
- 24:39you've got you've got Alec Pearce, who by all accounts is
- 24:43potentially A franchise tag. So you can, you've got that toss
- 24:49up. Who do you franchise tag?
- 24:51Who do you transition tag? So just just for clarity, for
- 24:53those who maybe missed last week's pod and I'll go a little
- 24:56bit more into detail. You've got two types of
- 24:58franchise tags and then you've got a transition tag.
- 25:01So you can use one, one, sorry, I'll put my teeth in.
- 25:05You can use one franchise tag and you can use one transition
- 25:09tag. Now the difference basically are
- 25:11the main differences. The franchise tags are worth
- 25:14more money, one of which then if they are then sent to another or
- 25:21sign with another team, you get compensation back from that
- 25:23team. So it's effectively a trade.
- 25:26Whereas the transition tag is you are paid a top ten salary as
- 25:36opposed to a top five average salary.
- 25:40But what essentially you can negotiate with another team.
- 25:44Another team gets a chance to say, I'm going to offer you this
- 25:46much money. And then the host team has
- 25:49placed the tags of the Colts in this situation can can basically
- 25:54say, yeah, we'll match it. If they don't, there's no
- 25:58compensation. So I think for the Colts, it's
- 26:00really, really a smart move in that you can essentially give
- 26:09Daniel Jones, who basically has done something similar, New York
- 26:13Giants where he had one really good season and then the rest of
- 26:16his career was bang average. And at the Colts he started
- 26:20really, really strong and he got injured, but he's going to miss
- 26:23part of the season. So realistically, how many teams
- 26:27are going to want to pay him? What the Colts are essentially
- 26:30saying, we're willing to pay you, which is just sub 40 mil,
- 26:34which in my eyes is probably where he's worth.
- 26:38You know, with the QB market, we'll look at a lot of
- 26:40quarterbacks now in the 40s and 50s.
- 26:42We know it's gone silly. The salary cap's gone up.
- 26:45So then you could argue, well, those salaries are going to be
- 26:48inflated even more. So actually, I think it's a
- 26:51really, really smart move. Now we've got Callum piping up
- 26:54in the background here saying you can only use one or the
- 26:56other. I am sure he's wrong.
- 26:59I'm calling him out. I'm sure you can use one of the
- 27:02two franchise tags plus one transition tag.
- 27:06I'm almost certain on that one. So if I'm wrong, call me out in
- 27:11the comments because I'm almost certain I'm proving researcher
- 27:15Cal wrong on this one. I can see him scoring a major
- 27:18background. He looks, he looks so panicked,
- 27:20you guys can't see him, but his face looks panicked.
- 27:23It's brilliant, but. I'll die.
- 27:25On that hill. Imagine that speak so going on
- 27:30with free agency you you touched on the the fact it could go to
- 27:33free agency, which I'm I'm with you.
- 27:35I do think he's a smart move by Indianapolis.
- 27:37I think it's a do draft a QB. I'll get a younger QB in and
- 27:40then he struggles Daniel Jones there to help him out.
- 27:42Plus it'll be on the sideline and the sideline at training to
- 27:45kind of give him a bit of experience of that playbook that
- 27:48he's had for that time. But speaking on the kind of free
- 27:53agency where he could have gone to there is some big names
- 27:58pretty much set and confirmed to be going to free agency to in
- 28:02particular is Trey Hendrickson and Kenneth Walker.
- 28:06Now that the Trey the Trey Hendrick Hendrickson one for me
- 28:12is wild that they're not doing something with him.
- 28:16I've been put in all the all the money into the two wide
- 28:22receivers that they have done. They've been an absolute shit
- 28:25show organisation. After putting these the money
- 28:28into into the two wide receivers, you want to surely
- 28:31you want to be keeping some some sort of backbone to your
- 28:36defence. Surely you do because he goes to
- 28:39somewhere else, like the Ravens or something wild.
- 28:44It's it's barmy. I think that it's such a weird
- 28:47free agency class this year because there's so many players
- 28:50where you're just thinking, Oh my word, like why are you not
- 28:53signing these guys? And on top of that, with this,
- 28:57like I just mentioned, the salary cap going up, teams have
- 29:02got more flexibility. So I just don't see it.
- 29:06No, I just don't. I don't understand it, sorry, I
- 29:09just don't get it. We've got we've got some more to
- 29:12touch on free agency in a second.
- 29:13So I don't want to go on too much about that one.
- 29:15The next big storyline from this kind of trade like cycles going
- 29:20on. Dave Montgomery on the move.
- 29:22He has moved to the Texans from the Lions and the Sonic and
- 29:26Knuckles partnership with Gibbs is over now in Detroit.
- 29:31He's moved on for 1/4 a 7th and the offensive lineman juice
- 29:34scrubs. What a name by the way, but
- 29:37moved over. It's probably a smart move get
- 29:39get a few more reps The Texans were kind of the need of that
- 29:45start that veteran running back when it comes down to that pack
- 29:50at the hard and I think that's what what whether whether weaken
- 29:54in our fairness. But I think it's a good move.
- 29:56I think he gets more upset that way.
- 29:58He's never going to be running back one while Gibbs is at
- 30:01Detroit, especially after how Gibbs performed last year.
- 30:07So yeah, but where any any thoughts on that mate?
- 30:11Any thoughts on on that on that trade?
- 30:14I think it it makes sense for him.
- 30:20You know, what did they used to call?
- 30:21Was it Sonic and Knuckles they used to call them or something?
- 30:24Like that Sonic and Knuckles. But I think it was kind of
- 30:27always in, you know, in the shadow really.
- 30:32I think I've had him in fantasy a few years and and I know like
- 30:38fantasy is not the real world, but it's it's probably a true
- 30:43reflection of kind of what he's like as a player.
- 30:46And but what he could be even as, would you argue as an RB2 or
- 30:51is it a true split back field? I'd probably say he's like a
- 30:541.5, but he's got an opportunity now to go and be a 1.
- 31:00And I think for someone like CJ who has been a little bit under
- 31:04fire really, you know, he's had a really good season and then
- 31:07he's been bang average moments of crap.
- 31:11And there's a lot of rumours that he was going to potentially
- 31:16be traded and they've they've now said no, he's here, he's
- 31:20staying. So actually to to have a running
- 31:23back like Montgomery, who can you can use him, You can really
- 31:29use him. Is he a three down back?
- 31:31Probably. I think it could be, arguably.
- 31:34I'm not sure if that would. I just, I just think it means
- 31:39that veteran, listen to that. Yeah, it brings that veteran
- 31:42mindset into that backfield. But I think it's a decent trade.
- 31:45I'm looking forward to more trades happening.
- 31:48We've got Jerry Jones though, on the on, on the the kind of hunt
- 31:51next. Jerry Jones has come out to the
- 31:54press and said he's going to be aggressive in this free agency
- 31:56and he's decided to go in and he's restructured contracts for
- 32:00duck, for CD and for the guard Tyler Smith, making about
- 32:0766,000,000 free in cap space, which he's come out.
- 32:13And he said like, we're attacking this free agency quite
- 32:15hard because they think they're close to doing something.
- 32:18Again, for the rugby league fans out there, the Cowboys or the
- 32:21Warwick and Wolves, it's always our year and they underperform
- 32:25somewhere down the line. And I think that presstop played
- 32:30really well last year. He he did and so did CD as he
- 32:34always does. They've got pickings now, which
- 32:36they're now franchise tagging. They've got that kind of set
- 32:39there. If they're going to start
- 32:41smashing that free agency, then it's be getting the it's not,
- 32:44it's now or never now or never for them in my opinion, because
- 32:47they need to do something with it.
- 32:50If not, people like CD are going to start looking around and
- 32:54jumping, jumping ship in my opinion with that.
- 32:56But we will soon see, you know what Jerry's like.
- 32:59He does drastic things like trade his best defensive player
- 33:03away for 1000 picks and, you know, look, look, look what he
- 33:08did there. But Matt, I'm going to move on
- 33:10to free agency right quickly. OK, touch on the free, the free
- 33:13agency room and mill that is knocking moment in time.
- 33:16So commanders set to release. Now all this is what we've found
- 33:21on research, by the way, a lot of it's per Adam Schefter.
- 33:24So if you don't don't agree with it, don't believe it, go speak
- 33:26to him about this. Commanders are set to release
- 33:29defensive back Marshall and Lima.
- 33:31The Cardinals set to release Kylie Murray, The Chiefs are set
- 33:36to release one of their main offensive tackles, Juwan Juwan
- 33:40Taylor, we've got the Vikings set to release Aaron Jones and
- 33:45their defensive tackle Jayvon Hargrave, and the Dolphins are
- 33:48rumoured to be releasing tour after the 1st of June.
- 33:53Now pretty big names there. The QB mark is up in the air.
- 33:57Kyla Murray linked with the Vikings that I've seen so far.
- 34:04Anything from you when it comes down to these names here?
- 34:08I mean, I'll, I'll go to the obvious.
- 34:12First of all, not just two, but Kyler as well.
- 34:16I think it's a really weird year this year because you've
- 34:20potentially got 345 potentially quarterbacks who teams could
- 34:29sign in a year where the quarterback draft market isn't
- 34:35at its highest. You know, it's pretty poor
- 34:37generally, you know, comparatively speaking.
- 34:41And let's just use two as an example.
- 34:44You've got the Dolphins who are going to say, fine, all right,
- 34:46we can't find a tray for this guy, so we're going to take the
- 34:48hit. We'll take on his contract.
- 34:50So you will be able to as a team sign a guy who is out to prove
- 34:58that he can play. So he will sign on a league
- 35:02minimum contract without a doubt because he's still getting paid
- 35:06is 50 mil over the next, you know, 50 mil for two years and
- 35:11he can play for next to nothing. You know, you could sign him
- 35:13arguably, although I think I don't think he would, you could
- 35:16sign him to a two year league minimum contract.
- 35:19Now arguably he's not going to do that.
- 35:21You probably sign a one year league minimum contract,
- 35:23hopefully play for another contract and and make big bucks.
- 35:26But same with Kyler. You've got a quarterback who
- 35:31just like to have had flashes of greatness.
- 35:35You know, they both can play, can't they?
- 35:37Like they are, they are a start. Both of them for me are NFL
- 35:43starting quarterbacks in the current climate and the current
- 35:46market. But they're just in positions in
- 35:48their careers where teams are ready for a reset and they're
- 35:50ready to move on. So, you know, you look at the
- 35:52Vikings, you look at The Jets, you look at the Steelers, you
- 35:57know, a number of teams who are potentially in the market for a
- 36:02quarterback who can start from day one.
- 36:04And I think you've got 2 here. I've seen the same research,
- 36:08Carl's type in the background that he's seen rumours of Jets
- 36:11and Kyla Merritt. I've seen the same things.
- 36:13I don't think that's a bad fit. I don't like, you know, give,
- 36:19give them a mobile quarterback. They've got one who's.
- 36:22Maybe better than Justin Fields. I'd argue he's better.
- 36:26I don't know, me. I, I think he's been better.
- 36:29I think if you put Justin Fields in, in the Cardinals, I think he
- 36:33does equally as well. I don't know.
- 36:35Actually, I don't know. I like all three QBs.
- 36:38I do like a mobile QB kind of kind of fit.
- 36:41But let's Fast forward 12 months.
- 36:45We're in the offseason of next year or yeah, give or take.
- 36:50Where do you see these three QBs and how do they fit?
- 36:55Where? Where do these?
- 36:55Where do these all? In the exact same scenario that
- 36:58they're in this year, I think the vast majority of them, maybe
- 37:03not just in fields. I, I don't know his contract
- 37:06details. I don't know how much of his
- 37:07money was sort of front loaded in that two years, but I see
- 37:11Kyler and I see two in the exact same scenario.
- 37:13I think they will both get signed.
- 37:15I think they will both see starting reps.
- 37:18I'm not necessarily saying game one, but I think they'll both
- 37:21see starting reps and I think they will both be in a position
- 37:26to re sign somewhere in some capacity.
- 37:30You know, look at Russell Wilson.
- 37:31He got ousted from the Broncos. He was earning big money, signed
- 37:35a league minimum contract at the Steelers and then moved on, then
- 37:41to New York. And all right, it didn't work
- 37:43for him, did it? But he was in basically the same
- 37:45position a year later because he played, OK, Like he played all
- 37:50right at the Steelers, you know, he wasn't the Russell Wilson of
- 37:53old, but he played all right. You know, I could see Kyler Otur
- 37:57in KOCS offence for example. I think I think it's either go
- 38:06if either go to either go to the Vikings that beat JJ McCarthy to
- 38:09the starting spot that don't rate JJ McCarthy.
- 38:12I just don't rate them all. I think 2 in particular would
- 38:15definitely get a starting spot in the NFLII don't think The
- 38:18Jets would take on Kyla because of the experience that they had
- 38:22with Justin Fields. And I understand and thinking of
- 38:24it, yes you're probably right. He's a better QB than Justin
- 38:28Fields. But the similar attributes to
- 38:31both QBs, you kind of replace him like for like if if Kyla
- 38:35Murray was leaps and bounds above Justin Fields, then I
- 38:40could have kind of unders If it were Lamar Jackson, who's
- 38:43another mobile QB, for instance, but he's leaps and bounds better
- 38:46than Justin Fields going into then yeah, I can understand.
- 38:49But I just don't put I put on both CT or QBs and I just don't
- 38:55see why they go from one to another on that on that front.
- 39:00But that being said, I would, I do think in particular out of
- 39:04all three of them, Q BS, I think Kyla Murray and two are in
- 39:07particular get starting roles elsewhere where I don't know.
- 39:13And I think potentially it's only a starting role due to an
- 39:17injury. Let's say Kyla Murray goes to
- 39:19the Steelers as a backup and a rod stays for another year.
- 39:24A rod goes down, Kyla Murray gets that shot and he's there
- 39:27for he's there for another two years, for instance, because he
- 39:29did well in that back season, because he's got good people
- 39:31around him. That'd be kind of my prediction
- 39:34when it comes down to them too, more than anything else.
- 39:37Do you think Aaron Rodgers will be at the Steelers next year?
- 39:40Like it's, it's a weird 1, isn't it, this year?
- 39:42Because he kind of had the Steelers over a barrel last
- 39:46year, in my opinion. Like Steelers went all in on him
- 39:49basically, didn't they? And said we're just going to
- 39:50wait for you to decide. But I don't think I think he
- 39:54played well. I think he was absolutely fine,
- 39:58but he wasn't like he didn't set the world on fire.
- 40:01Like, do the Steelers really need to hang around for him or
- 40:04is it more that the QB draft class this year isn't great?
- 40:08So we'll ride out for another year with a rod.
- 40:10And he knows the organisation, he obviously knows Mike
- 40:13McCarthy. So we'll do another year, we'll
- 40:15kick the can down the road, and then we'll look to draft someone
- 40:17next year where the class looks a bit heavier on the QB side.
- 40:22I think if they're not drafted a QB, so sorry, if they keep a
- 40:28rod, they're not, they're not looking to draft AQB next year.
- 40:31They're looking to trade because I think a rod gets him in that
- 40:34mid mid to late draft pick category, right?
- 40:38Which if you want AQB, you want top five pick.
- 40:42You're not going to get a top five pick with a rod as your QB
- 40:46because you've got the people around him like Metcalf and
- 40:48stuff around him who as shown through a through a lot of about
- 40:56a lot of the the this season how how well they've played
- 40:59together. I do genuinely think that put
- 41:03Ayrod here. I think I think Ayrod stays for
- 41:05one more season, sees how they get on, see how they go
- 41:09throughout it. I think if it's not going well
- 41:13by by like Christmas or just before Christmas, he pulls up
- 41:19injured or something along the lines of just not good just
- 41:23before before that trade headline to do they bring
- 41:26another QB in or something. But I do I do see him being
- 41:29there and I don't see him drafting a QB.
- 41:32I see him trading for a QB at the end of next year rather than
- 41:36drafting Vaughan. But then again, if they were
- 41:38doesn't come in and then they put someone like Kyler in, for
- 41:41instance, they've got that. They've got the opportunity.
- 41:44So this ever still got Mason Rudolph.
- 41:45Is he still? Is he still thing there like
- 41:47they? Yeah, he is.
- 41:49Yeah, so they've got a choice then to be the Mason or Kyla,
- 41:52for instance, who, if it works, happy days, you've found your
- 41:56new franchise QB because they're both relatively still young.
- 41:59If it doesn't work, you've got a a relatively high draft pick.
- 42:04That'd be my thoughts on it anyway.
- 42:08Yeah, I don't disagree with any of that, to be fair.
- 42:10I love that we've got research Carl in the background.
- 42:13Oh, they've got Will Howard, too.
- 42:15It's like sick. I do a bad job.
- 42:21I have a word. I have a word.
- 42:23You know what? That I.
- 42:24Really want I want research account to get on this pod at
- 42:27some point and have a voice but that's I'm quite enjoying just
- 42:30ridiculing him. He's got nothing to come back
- 42:32with. It's brilliant.
- 42:33We, we, we can say what we like about him.
- 42:35It's fantastic. Nobody else has what he's
- 42:37saying. He's it's absolutely great.
- 42:39But that's like the current rumour mill of the free agency
- 42:42and, and the touch on the, the trades and the franchise tags
- 42:44and things like hopefully I haven't missed anything too
- 42:46much. If we have, let us know in the
- 42:47comments. We, we're only human.
- 42:49We don't tend to be, we don't, we don't pretend to be experts.
- 42:53We just like to talk football and all sports.
- 42:55That being said, guys, I spoke to you earlier about heading
- 42:58over to all of our socials and you know, hitting follow, like
- 43:02subscribe and all that jazz. But that being said, we have a
- 43:07little offseason plan for the pod and that includes
- 43:12potentially getting a guest in and getting somebody else in to,
- 43:16to talk sport, whether it's football or whatever, to talk
- 43:19sport and to chill with us and give some really outrageous
- 43:22takes. Now we want some recommendations
- 43:25off you guys. Who do you want realistically?
- 43:27Who would you like to see on the pod?
- 43:30Do me a favour, share this to them.
- 43:32Tag them in the comments, tag them in any of our social posts
- 43:35or even if you want to drop us Adm with your with your
- 43:38recommendations as well. And then we'll we'll go chase
- 43:42them up. They don't have to be creators
- 43:45as such. They can just be sports fans
- 43:47that want to chat and talk sport like we, we, we just here for
- 43:52that. We want to interact.
- 43:53We want to interact don't with like the the normal guy, the
- 43:57normal person, the normal lady, like that's what we are like.
- 44:01We've made this podcast because we enjoy talking crap about
- 44:03sport, obviously, especially American football, but other
- 44:06sports as well. So I think, you know, if you're
- 44:09into sport, if you're into balls and you want to, you know, jump
- 44:14on the pod and have a chat with us, then please do like we're
- 44:17we're all ears and we'd we'd love that opportunity.
- 44:20We had them again just because I'm I'm in the mood to ridicule
- 44:23them. Today we had research Caroline
- 44:25in the background. You know the little emoji with
- 44:27the man with his hand up like this.
- 44:30Please, Sir. I'll speak.
- 44:32Wait your turn boy, wait your turn.
- 44:35Say what cowardy when you when you get 3 or more stats right,
- 44:39we might consider it you know. But but anyway, talking, talking
- 44:49sport in general and talking other things other than American
- 44:53football, Bloody hell, I can't spake today.
- 44:56We're going to get into it, Brad.
- 44:58Let's talk to rugby league, get him off rest right, let's talk
- 45:03rugby league now. This is something that you're
- 45:05going to hear a little bit more of going forward.
- 45:07The rugby league season start. It's a passion of mine and
- 45:09Brad's and we've had to be fair. We've had some good feedback
- 45:11about talking rugby. Now this is rugby league and
- 45:16we're going to recap from this week's scores and and headlines
- 45:20from this. Now First things first, what on
- 45:23earth is happening at Hull KR? The Champions have had the
- 45:29worst, I think, I think I saw it on BBC News somewhere that
- 45:32they've had the worst start as defending champions in Super
- 45:36League history. Now they lost 58 nil.
- 45:40It's a long way to travel if you're in a way from by the way,
- 45:43because this game was in Las Vegas.
- 45:45They played Leeds in Las Vegas and lost 58 nil.
- 45:50Now I'm taking nothing away from Leeds because Leeds looked good
- 45:53but all KR looked poor, absolutely poor with this.
- 46:01They're sitting at the bottom of the Super League table.
- 46:03They are like and they've got a game in hand, but they are quite
- 46:06literally sitting at the bottom of the table counting that with
- 46:10Warrington, who have also got the game in hand.
- 46:12They're 5th. So you can't just sort of say,
- 46:17Oh yeah, you know, yeah, we we ain't got into the rhythm.
- 46:20They went out and they played really well against Brisbane.
- 46:23So, you know, I've I've, they just put all their eggs into
- 46:26that basket and they want that title.
- 46:27They want to be the Champions of the world.
- 46:29So therefore they've sacrificed the week before and after.
- 46:32Maybe you can't blame the travel because Leeds absolutely
- 46:35trounced them and it's just they've just looked woeful.
- 46:41I mean, to get beat by York first of all, who have started
- 46:44really strong. Like, don't get me wrong, you
- 46:47know they've had three games, they've had two wins, which one
- 46:49of which we'll we'll touch on you.
- 46:50You'll be able to see it on the on YouTube if you're looking
- 46:53there. Absolute drop gold kings your
- 46:55car by all all accounts. But as defending champions of
- 47:01Super League, the grand final winners, you can't come out and
- 47:05lose your only two for like starting league games.
- 47:08You just can't. No, no, do do you not think it's
- 47:11well as well if you if you finished the you start the
- 47:16season, right, start the season, come round, OK, I've just won.
- 47:18And then they were dominant last year.
- 47:19They were dominant in the NFL, in the NFL, in the in the Super
- 47:23League last year they they were really good start this year
- 47:26comes round, you go, you're lucky.
- 47:27You go about your first 3 fixtures, you play in York, you
- 47:29play in Leeds and you play in Brisbane, OK, you're going to
- 47:33win one of them games. Which one are you going to win?
- 47:36Oh, well, they're going to, they're going to beat York.
- 47:38No, they beat Brisbane of all, of all the three teams there.
- 47:42They beat Brisbane and they played really, like I say, they
- 47:45played really well against Brazil.
- 47:46I just think there's something at the moment, research Carl
- 47:49flying the name, that it's the first, the first defending
- 47:52champion since 2016 to lose both opening games.
- 47:56Ironically, the team that was before them that did that was
- 47:59the Leeds Rhinos, who absolutely trounced them this weekend in
- 48:04America. We'll have to see what we'll
- 48:07have to see what like this weekend brings and the
- 48:09following, you know, the following few weeks to see where
- 48:11what what's happening with all KR there, see if the can kind of
- 48:13bounce back. Neither whole team at the moment
- 48:16is looking anything fantastic, which is a bit of a shame, but
- 48:20we'll have to kind of keep it up from there now.
- 48:23Classic ass are they're back. I went to the game on Friday
- 48:28night. We look great.
- 48:30Look, this is this is a Patriots of this year where the where
- 48:35they played an easy team. OK, they played the knees team,
- 48:38they played, they played the Huddersfield Giants who look
- 48:40poor look shocking. Now I watched this game and that
- 48:46took my daughters with me. It were fantastic.
- 48:48I really enjoyed it and it would just it were like watching the
- 48:52old cast of Daryl Paul's era through a nice little pass out
- 48:55little dumbass. We were we were having fun when
- 49:00playing rugby and that were the main thing to see.
- 49:03Did you did you want to go into the game?
- 49:05So I know you were supposed to go.
- 49:06Yeah, I did. No, I did.
- 49:07It was very, very last minute. One of the guys managed to sort
- 49:11me out with the ticket. Who appreciate that oppo but a
- 49:17yeah, I ended up going quite last minute.
- 49:18I was working until like 7:00 and I literally bombing up the
- 49:21A1 to get there for kick off. I think I missed the I think I
- 49:24missed the 1st 32nd. Well, maybe a little bit more.
- 49:28I met my my friend Gaz who kindly had gone to the bar and
- 49:32I've got you, I've got you a beer and he met me just waiting
- 49:35to go up the steps and I just heard the crowd go and I heard
- 49:37it and I so I missed the first try, caught it on the replays.
- 49:41But I just thought, you know, it was, I mean a couple of things
- 49:45like talking about polishing a turd like the old girl, Weldon
- 49:49Rd, the jungle, the one ball, whatever it is now, like she
- 49:54looks great, like you've definitely rolled it in glitter.
- 49:58There's work to do. We all know that we want the new
- 50:00stand, but she looks great and the work the club have done have
- 50:03been it is brilliant and there's still work to go.
- 50:06And I love that they're actually responding to feedback like the
- 50:08food's been crap and they're responding to it like we won't
- 50:11go into that rubbish. But the atmosphere down there
- 50:15was great. And to say it was just shy 7000,
- 50:17which isn't amazing, but actually when you looked around
- 50:21that stadium, I bet 6 1/2 were Cass.
- 50:25And. 40,000 no, like Cass has got a population of around
- 50:3040,000. So when you think just shy 7000
- 50:33were there on a Friday night against a poor team like
- 50:37Huddersfield, that's that's you know, it's not bad to say the
- 50:41season we had last year. We we've done better and we'll
- 50:44do better. Like I think what I loved was it
- 50:47was like watching that game against Wigan.
- 50:49Now the score was completely different because it was
- 50:51Huddersfield. Like let's not pretend that's
- 50:53not the case, but the passion was there, the desire was there,
- 50:58the guys were having fun. You know, like is it Ashton,
- 51:03Ashton Golden? Like he had an absolute storm
- 51:09and he, he came on for Hood didn't he?
- 51:10Who picked up an injury and God, he just, it was his debut for
- 51:15cast and it looks like he'd been playing there for like 3 years
- 51:18and the crowd is behind him. You can just see he's going to
- 51:21be a fan favourite. Yeah, against the team, against
- 51:24his ex team, the team didn't want to sign him, let him go.
- 51:27He came on and he he, I mean he's a, he's a, he's a chunky
- 51:31lad now. He puts somebody puts some of
- 51:32the old timber and I'm not going to lie to him.
- 51:34You can tell him I've been playing for a while.
- 51:36But he came on and like and I said to me, because I went with
- 51:38my mum, you see, took me a moment girls.
- 51:40And I said to him halfway through as soon as he walks on
- 51:43field, you could you could see as soon as he walks on failure,
- 51:44bringing some energy when we were we were X amount of points
- 51:47up at time. He didn't he didn't necessarily
- 51:49need to go on an attack. But I said to me, Mum, I went,
- 51:52he's playing for a contractor and you could see it.
- 51:55Every time we got that boy, we were hungry.
- 51:57Every time we got a boy hungry and that try that he scored away
- 52:00burst lying and he's not going that fantastic.
- 52:03It was great. And like you said, the
- 52:04atmosphere was great. It was, it was lovely to see.
- 52:06It was nice to be back down. Yeah, great.
- 52:10Great all around. And you know.
- 52:11It was for me and and I only saw that.
- 52:14We don't want to bias it towards cast, but we've kind of got to
- 52:17as fans, I want you a little bit.
- 52:18We've got to acknowledge that. But it was just really there's a
- 52:21few things that really stood out for me as a off the field.
- 52:25I mean, it was on the field, but as a non performance side of
- 52:27things, you add Weaver, who had a great game and you know that
- 52:34that spine on game one looks fantastic and and the toughy
- 52:38injury was unfortunate and we've made some moves and and still
- 52:42looks relatively all right. I think that if it plays them
- 52:44all together, it'll really develop.
- 52:45And but the few things that stood out for me, you add until
- 52:50most of the players had gone in. And as we're walking out,
- 52:52there's Weaver still down in the corner taking pictures with the
- 52:56fans. Like long after the end of the
- 52:59the whistle's gone. You had you had the coach who
- 53:03was he'd not done the usual Daryl Powell walking across the
- 53:06field clapping the fans. He'd clap the fans.
- 53:09But he was making a target for every single player.
- 53:13There was a hug, there was a pat on the back.
- 53:15There was like he went out of his way to to literally as far
- 53:19as I could see, every single player.
- 53:20And it's it's kind of just backs up everything that Cass have
- 53:24been putting out on the promos. And and I think, you know, even
- 53:27if you're losing, no one wants to lose.
- 53:29But it's year 1 of essentially new projects.
- 53:32And I think if you've seen that passion and you've seen that
- 53:35drive, people will get behind the team.
- 53:37If you can see where it's going, it's not what we've had the last
- 53:40couple of years, but my first instincts from pre season, from
- 53:44the social media stuff, and I know you can skew socials.
- 53:47And then just what I've seen in in the flesh on on Friday night,
- 53:51it's going in the right direction.
- 53:53I think there's the right people in place.
- 53:55So I I hope it continues. Same and you talk about Blake
- 53:58Taffer coming. Blake Taffer, sorry Weaver
- 54:01coming down to the corner. Well that's where I was sat in
- 54:04that corner of Princess St there and I got a picture with him
- 54:07with my 2 girls, my mum. And it was like the girls wanted
- 54:12to go down and they were they were shouting for cast all game
- 54:14like it will find they've been before in the past and they
- 54:17didn't enjoy cast games. They love that cascade, they
- 54:19want to go again, they want to go and meet the players.
- 54:22So we went and stood there for 5 or 10 minutes to end the game
- 54:24and he came over, got a pitch with us and we were we were
- 54:28right in the corner and he started on the halfway line and
- 54:30walked down. And every single kid that we're
- 54:32there, they got a picture with like because that because the
- 54:35kids are what the next generation are.
- 54:37And so you can imagine you got way down to me and you think
- 54:40he's getting a bit sick of this now.
- 54:42Same energy to what it wore at the stage.
- 54:44Bear in mind he just played 80 minutes of rugby like and the
- 54:48same energy from start. Great to see Long live it.
- 54:52That's hopefully we're not talking next week when we've
- 54:54just been trounced. Hopefully this week we I mean we
- 54:56play Leeds, which is going to be a tough a tough one, but you
- 54:58know we'll see we'll see how we get on moving on to the next
- 55:02team who now have the world's best pie because Wigan look
- 55:07unbeatable. They look, I couldn't believe
- 55:12that. I think I texted you on Thursday
- 55:14night going have you seen this score 54 nil, They beat Lee now
- 55:19Lee are a good team, right? But Wigan, we're going to take
- 55:25some beating this year. We're going to take some
- 55:27beating. I'd be surprised if I lose a
- 55:29game this year. They were unreal to look at.
- 55:33Those look smooth. They're getting to the point
- 55:35where it would they were they were just playing they were
- 55:38playing lock lane like they were just playing some Sunday league
- 55:41stuff. Just bopping about having some
- 55:43fun. Yeah, it it, it Adults with kids
- 55:47at weekend for them. Two points difference over three
- 55:51games. 92 points difference over three games.
- 55:55That's just for context. That's 20 points more than
- 55:59second place Rhinos. And you'll only get 4 points for
- 56:02a try. It's it's over 60 points more
- 56:08than Saints who are in 3rd. Jesus, that is if they can
- 56:14maintain that, that level and consistency, the the the walk in
- 56:19it, it'll be a walk it. But they try to keep the red
- 56:21because they look they look absolutely incredible.
- 56:25But a team that doesn't look incredible like normally does
- 56:281/2 of the French teams Catalan, their struggles are continuing,
- 56:33losing 36 four to Saint Helens. Saint Helens are a good team,
- 56:36but Catalan we're at home and Catalan at home is a hard place
- 56:39to go and a hard place to go and and win.
- 56:43And Saints went over there and just did that.
- 56:46Don't know what's happening here.
- 56:47There's the Toulouse and Saints, kind of the Toulouse and Catalan
- 56:51rivalry now for who's going to be the more French team.
- 56:53Toulouse did lose this weekend as well to, to, to a decent look
- 56:57at Bradford, but Catalans haven't got going yet.
- 57:01They've got they've got nothing. They've got no, no zazz about
- 57:05them at the moment. And it's, it's, it's a weird one
- 57:07to see because normally, I mean, I know Tompkins don't play for
- 57:10them anymore, but normally you associate that, that Catalan
- 57:13team with, with some Tompkins now and having that fun and just
- 57:17looking like a strong pack and a tough pack to go and beat.
- 57:20And now they're, they're they're just not it's a it's a wild 1.
- 57:25Is that one for me? I don't think anyone had
- 57:27predicted to lose being above Catalan at this point.
- 57:32You got to lose in 6th and Catalan down at 11th, which you
- 57:35just wouldn't have expected. I'm I'm really looking forward
- 57:38to that Derby game, though, like that's going to be I feel like
- 57:41that's going to be a real close game, even if to lose are like
- 57:44continuing to do well. And I think it's just going to
- 57:46be one of those like absolute, like smash, whack, wallop, to
- 57:52use the comic book terms, like sort of games, you know,
- 57:56physical, probably not that high scoring, just real impact driven
- 58:00games. I can just see it in the French
- 58:02teams. I think it'll be the busiest
- 58:04we've ever. Obviously it will be the busiest
- 58:05we've ever seen in the French stadium as well.
- 58:08The French ground. It'll be, it'll be, I think the
- 58:09atmosphere will be electric. I think it'll be great to see.
- 58:12I think I'm, I'm really looking forward to it now.
- 58:14Toulouse, on the other hand, who came out and ran right against
- 58:18us. I lost to Bradford this week,
- 58:21which I'm very, very, very surprised about.
- 58:22Not taking anything away from Bradford because Bradford played
- 58:25well. I did manage to watch a bit of
- 58:26this game and Bradford looked solid when they were playing.
- 58:29Toulouse just didn't get going and I'm very surprised about
- 58:32that. It was.
- 58:33Is it because Toulouse were on the road?
- 58:35Because you know, when they looked great against us, but we
- 58:40were on the road, we, we had to go over there.
- 58:41Now they were going to Odd Soul, which is never an easy place to
- 58:44go because it's always -4 even it's summer in Odd Soul because
- 58:48it's that far underground. But like, I don't know.
- 58:52It's, it's, it's a strong result for Bradford that that is a
- 58:56statement. Is that from Bradford?
- 58:58It's a big statement. It was an.
- 58:59Interesting one. Like the thing, the thing that I
- 59:02took from the game the most and like, not to be superficial on
- 59:05it, but after the the first Bradford home game, it was a
- 59:08night game, won't it? And actually, it looks cool.
- 59:11Like the stadium was lit up. Well, they had all the showy
- 59:14stuff going on, but you couldn't see all.
- 59:17You know, you had your main stand where you could see
- 59:20because it was lit up, but then you couldn't see all the sort of
- 59:23bowl. Around it.
- 59:25And then this game obviously wasn't a night game and you
- 59:29could just see how horrendous it looked and how.
- 59:31Empty. It looks, and it was like this
- 59:33is coming from a CAS fan. You know, we get it, but it is,
- 59:39God, it's an awful ground. It is awful.
- 59:42And that looked horrendous for telly.
- 59:45You know, when we're talking about like IMG ratings and stuff
- 59:47like that, it that is a turd and it's not been polished.
- 59:51Actually, no, no, I'll, I'll give them the credit where it's
- 59:54due. Actually, probably I've done a
- 59:55lot of work to that, but it still looks awful.
- 1:00:00It's not. Ideal, yeah.
- 1:00:02I mean, it's a no. I mean, there's a team though,
- 1:00:04like, like you say, I didn't expect them to take this
- 1:00:07victory. I thought to lose were probably
- 1:00:09going to be a bit more physical. But credit where it's due.
- 1:00:11I mean you got Bradford to lose and York in the top 8, Bradford
- 1:00:154th to lose 6th and York in 7th which is nuts.
- 1:00:18I am so surprised at the start of this season.
- 1:00:22I'm really happy with how it's going because I think it's it's
- 1:00:25going to be a really exciting season.
- 1:00:27Now you mentioned York being in the, we say the top 10 York and.
- 1:00:33Yeah, 7th. 7th right to York. 7th get into a final, I can't
- 1:00:38speak headline the drop goal Kings that I York Knights second
- 1:00:44game this year that they've beat A-Team a solid team as well by
- 1:00:49via a drop goal. Now don't get me wrong, this
- 1:00:53drop goal didn't come in the dying seconds.
- 1:00:55It came first half. I believe Paul McShane passed it
- 1:00:58out as as you seem to do plenty of time for the forecast passed
- 1:01:02it back drop goal went over just solidified the point there, but
- 1:01:05the score finished 1716 against Hull FC.
- 1:01:08Now, excuse me, Hull FC are a team that are known to have a
- 1:01:13strong pack, to be a physical team, to hit hard, tackle hard
- 1:01:17and play hard and York bettam, and I think it's I think it's so
- 1:01:24good to see how long York can keep winning by a point.
- 1:01:27I don't know it's it's one MBO. You win by an inch or a mile,
- 1:01:30you've won a game either way. Like I don't know how long I can
- 1:01:34keep it up for, but it's so good to see that these teams that
- 1:01:38have been promoted are coming in and being like, hey, show us
- 1:01:42some and respect. You know, I mean we're here.
- 1:01:44We're not just these. We've actually been given this,
- 1:01:46this, this opportunity. We're here.
- 1:01:51I mean you've got York who they've beat KR, they've
- 1:01:57obviously just had the victory this week and their only loss
- 1:02:00comes to Leeds who've just absolutely spanked the world
- 1:02:04champions. You know, they've got Wolves
- 1:02:08next I believe and then I think it's Wigan after that, not
- 1:02:11counting the cup. So I think that, you know,
- 1:02:13they've got 2 tough games ahead of them.
- 1:02:15I think those two games are probably going to show really
- 1:02:17what they're about. You'd have thought that'd come
- 1:02:20from Hulky out of it. Let's just let's just try and
- 1:02:21give them benefit of the doubt, you know, World Cup challenge
- 1:02:24coming up, blah, blah, blah. But you've got next two games,
- 1:02:27you've got Warriors, sorry, not Warriors, Warrington, who are
- 1:02:31fifth and then the Warriors who we've spoke about already.
- 1:02:34So I think the next two Super League games anyway, I think
- 1:02:38I've got Keighley I think in the cup.
- 1:02:41But the next two Super League games are going to be
- 1:02:45definitely, definitely tougher, so it'll be interesting to see
- 1:02:50how they go with with those. Yeah, it will, it will.
- 1:02:55And I hope it continues. I really do.
- 1:02:58I hope I hope it continues in terms of of this this kind of
- 1:03:04progression throughout it now do what a team that missed out on
- 1:03:07getting promoted to the Super League last year and that was
- 1:03:10the London Broncos now. And the reason why I'm bringing
- 1:03:12these up, I know they're in the they're a championship team, but
- 1:03:15they they played. We'd just gone against North
- 1:03:19Wales Crusaders. And if you remember the first
- 1:03:23time we brought up the rugby league thing, we spoke about the
- 1:03:26whole KR and Loch Lane Scott, which ended up like 104 nil 10.
- 1:03:33I don't know. So whatever it was along the
- 1:03:35lines of that, right? And that's that them divisions
- 1:03:39are one's one's a full Time Team, all the ones a Saturday,
- 1:03:44Saturday afternoon team and they just happened to play each
- 1:03:46other. Well, London went and played
- 1:03:49North Wales Crusaders this weekend, same division or same
- 1:03:53league championship, right? And they beat them 100 and 618.
- 1:04:01Now if that's not like AO, we should be up there.
- 1:04:05Why are Huddersfield Giants up there type thing?
- 1:04:08I mean, I know it's North Wales, but North Wales have recruited.
- 1:04:11I mean, Greg Eden plays there. What's he plays there, don't he?
- 1:04:14Have you, have you seen the stat though?
- 1:04:16So the skull was 100 and 618, and within that for The
- 1:04:21Crusaders, Greg Eden and Hat Trick.
- 1:04:25Oh, did you really? Seriously.
- 1:04:28Yeah. So I saw this tweet and I'm in a
- 1:04:30I'm in a group chat that it's like a Super Bowl league.
- 1:04:33So a bit like, not quite fantasy league, but you do your
- 1:04:36predictor scores for every, every rugby league game.
- 1:04:39And I put it in there. It's this tweet.
- 1:04:41I'll credit him. It's Mason Hurst 18.
- 1:04:44So if you're on Twitter, RX Mason Hurst 18 So Greg Eden
- 1:04:48scoring a hat trick while also conceding 106 points can take
- 1:04:52the man out of cast, but not the cast out of the man Just I loved
- 1:04:57it. But it's it's.
- 1:04:59Mad. I mean, I mean, the score was
- 1:05:01like 5058, yeah, 58, six at half time.
- 1:05:05But I think I think more than anything, like I mean, the
- 1:05:08score's ridiculous, but I think that's more a testament to like
- 1:05:11London of, of I think London had every expectation to be in the
- 1:05:16Super League. Or if they or if they knew they
- 1:05:18weren't going to be in Super League, they are pushing,
- 1:05:21they'll be in the Super League next year.
- 1:05:23I can't see how they won't be with, with what is obvious that
- 1:05:27rugby league wants out of Super League.
- 1:05:28Obviously there's new talks again about the NRL or the
- 1:05:33bosses of NRL putting offers into Super League and God knows
- 1:05:36how that'll go because the sport's absolutely corrupt and
- 1:05:39nuts when you look at the top end.
- 1:05:41But there's a sport, we love it. But you know, if London aren't
- 1:05:46in Super League next year then it's just going to be, it's
- 1:05:49going to be nuts to see what they're doing the Championship
- 1:05:52year after year. Yeah, if if you are new to rugby
- 1:05:55league, the rugby league's AM 62 corridor sport and it always has
- 1:05:59been, it's you. And they wanted to kind of
- 1:06:03expand. That's why they brought the the
- 1:06:05likes of Catalan in to begin with and they looked at Toronto
- 1:06:07and that never worked out for obvious reasons.
- 1:06:10And you're and, and London have always been a team that have
- 1:06:13been in and out in and out, in and out, in and out over for as
- 1:06:15long as I can remember. And I thought the sport pretty
- 1:06:18much all my life. And they've always been that
- 1:06:19team that goes in and out from where you know, from what, what
- 1:06:24there should be. And forever they get this
- 1:06:27opportunity in and they'll lose all the players.
- 1:06:29And I think now that kind of time with the the the club where
- 1:06:35it's just, I agree this should be in, but at the same time I'd
- 1:06:39struggle. I mean, other than Huddersfield,
- 1:06:41I'd sure take anybody else out of the Super League at the
- 1:06:43moment that that don't deserve to be in there for them.
- 1:06:47But yeah, I'd be, I'd be excited to kind of see how this goes
- 1:06:53with it to be, to be, to be quite honest with you, I'd be,
- 1:06:55I'd be kind of really excited to see how it goes.
- 1:06:58But that's the the rugby league roundup.
- 1:07:01I can't speak get him off ref. I can't that's that's that's the
- 1:07:05I can't I mean, I love this feature.
- 1:07:06I mean, I'm not going to lie. So that's the rugby league
- 1:07:08roundup. We've got a couple more just.
- 1:07:11For context, if you don't know the reference, just get on
- 1:07:14YouTube and just search rugby league.
- 1:07:16I can't speak. It'll be the best 2 minutes of
- 1:07:19your life. Seriously.
- 1:07:20Cass Wigan Knighty. Is it Cass Wigan Knighty
- 1:07:24somewhere? I don't know.
- 1:07:25It's it's great to watch. It's Cass.
- 1:07:28Wigan. I'm going to try and get that
- 1:07:31sound bite. Yeah, I'm going to try and get
- 1:07:33the sound bite is what I'll try and do.
- 1:07:34But we've got a couple more segments to go through.
- 1:07:37First mate, we've got all of the balls and we've got a new one
- 1:07:40coming to the show now. All the balls.
- 1:07:45He's a favourite of ours. It's something we do quite a
- 1:07:47lot, something to do every week. Brad, do me a favour, just tell
- 1:07:50the other people what are the what all the balls is please.
- 1:07:55I shall. So all of the balls is where we
- 1:07:59touch on all the other sports around the world.
- 1:08:03Now we have obviously touched on rugby league.
- 1:08:06We've got our I can't speak segment now, but we'll touch on
- 1:08:10other things now. I won't lie to you, I've come in
- 1:08:14dry on this one that this isn't anything to do with balls at
- 1:08:20all. Not only is it not to do with
- 1:08:22balls, it's not even to do with sport.
- 1:08:26What the hell is going on, Zach? Right, right, so so this is me.
- 1:08:32This is this is my I said to Brad, we're doing anything not
- 1:08:35doing all we're not doing all the well this week, right.
- 1:08:37Just let me let me run with this, please.
- 1:08:39Right, Jim Carrey, right. I've seen it, I've seen it.
- 1:08:46Have you seen this Jim Carrey conspiracy?
- 1:08:50I take my tin file that out is what I need to do.
- 1:08:54So there's been an award show, right where Jim Carrey's won is
- 1:08:58a lifetime achievement award or something.
- 1:09:01Now look, the pictures of Jim Carrey.
- 1:09:04That ain't Jim Carrey. I'm telling you now, right?
- 1:09:07That ain't Jim Carrey. But there's a guy that's come
- 1:09:09out and I believe his name's Alex Woman.
- 1:09:13I better tell you exactly how we're looking on a look on the
- 1:09:15guys Instagram earlier on today, Right?
- 1:09:18But his name is Alex Stone and he's a mask maker, right?
- 1:09:23He makes these like PV, like these, these rubber masks,
- 1:09:27right? And he's put a story outgoing.
- 1:09:30Yeah. It weren't Jim Carrey.
- 1:09:32It was me all along. And he's shown Jim Carrey's face
- 1:09:35mask on a mannequin. This is wild because Jim
- 1:09:40Carrey's kind of kept, I mean, he's public, his public, his
- 1:09:44publicist has come out and said it was Jim Carrey, the award
- 1:09:48show. But Jim Carrey himself just sat
- 1:09:50there doing nothing. But if you look at this picture,
- 1:09:53if you look at the at the Jim Carrey's face, they say Jim
- 1:09:58Carrey. I'm telling you now.
- 1:10:01Have you actually seen it though?
- 1:10:02Like obviously that the Alex guy, like he makes masks.
- 1:10:05It's obviously a a social media thing to get attraction.
- 1:10:09Jesus Christ. But it's like what I think the
- 1:10:12thing that gets me is that Jim Carrey all these years has been
- 1:10:15like anti Hollywood. So there's loads of rumours that
- 1:10:21obviously he knows about the whole like Epstein stuff and all
- 1:10:24that. Because he's like, if you look
- 1:10:26at some of his old awards, I guess not that old, like
- 1:10:30actually in the 2000s and then the 2000 and 10s when he's
- 1:10:33winning stuff or he's up for awards, it's kind of like almost
- 1:10:37anti establishment when it comes to Hollywood when he says things
- 1:10:40and it's almost like he's saying stuff to tell people, but
- 1:10:44without wanting to get killed. And then he's he's obviously
- 1:10:48always been like anti face work. And it's obvious he's just ended
- 1:10:53up having this face work done where he's like a motionless,
- 1:10:57you know what? They used to call him like
- 1:10:59rubber face, didn't they? Because his face would just be
- 1:11:01like like all over the place. Whereas now it was just like,
- 1:11:04there's just nothing there. Sorry, I just hit my leg.
- 1:11:06There was nothing there. And it's like, it's just mad.
- 1:11:11But it was great. Like it was great publicity.
- 1:11:13Publicity from the Alex guy. Research college put into it the
- 1:11:17mask. I'd heard like one of the really
- 1:11:20deep ex rabbit all on this by the way, and I'm looking on
- 1:11:23profiles on profiles and profiles that I've had all these
- 1:11:25wild conspiracy theories. Anyway, this is just a big
- 1:11:29marketing ploy because there's a new mask film coming out and
- 1:11:33it's like I might look I could kind of believe the rubber
- 1:11:38peeve, that mask thing. But when he speaks, it's going
- 1:11:41to be Jim Carrey, you know what I mean?
- 1:11:42But I agree with the saying. Like he's had this work done and
- 1:11:46it looks like it looks like a caricature, big, like boulders
- 1:11:50underneath his eyes for his cheekbones.
- 1:11:53It's like he's had a Brazilian butt lifting his face, right?
- 1:11:56And it's all of his. He's always had them.
- 1:11:59They're not wrinkles other than, but they're like because of his
- 1:12:02face being quite rubbery where he does like a he'll do a facial
- 1:12:05expression and you can see the creases in his in his face.
- 1:12:08He's always had them. They've gone, they've gone now
- 1:12:12like and it's it's just absolutely bar me to see.
- 1:12:16So yes, there's no balls in the older balls other than on his
- 1:12:19cheeks. But I just thought this story is
- 1:12:22too, too wild for us just to not sit and talk about for two
- 1:12:26minutes. Mate.
- 1:12:26It is mental. So stupid, Yeah.
- 1:12:33So I apologise to tell you it's not getting on all the balls.
- 1:12:36This is this was the reason why we are now going to move on to
- 1:12:41our new segment of the week. For this week.
- 1:12:45We've got something fun. It's called the multiverse
- 1:12:49trade, Brad. Right.
- 1:12:50So with this, what I'm going to do is I've got a, I've got a
- 1:12:56task for you, should I say? All right?
- 1:12:58And with this, you're going to get a random athlete from the
- 1:13:01world. You can choose who it is,
- 1:13:05whatever shape, size or whatever you want to do with that.
- 1:13:09And this athlete, you have to put him into an NFL position and
- 1:13:13tell me why. OK, I've got one lined up ready
- 1:13:16to go. A player, a position and why he
- 1:13:20would suit that position. Now look, I'm going to give you
- 1:13:23about 60 seconds to do so and explain it to me why.
- 1:13:25But if you want, I'll go first give you a bit of a example as
- 1:13:31to what what, what the the feature is about.
- 1:13:36So. I'm excited.
- 1:13:38I'm excited. Now, with this, I went a little
- 1:13:42bit out-of-the-box with this, and I thought, I was trying to
- 1:13:45think. Obviously, you've got your
- 1:13:47obvious ones who can be who and who can be what.
- 1:13:49Now hear me out. I've gone for Erlin Harlan, OK?
- 1:13:55Now I think, and I don't, I don't think you're going to
- 1:13:57think, I'm sorry, where I've put him, I don't think you're going
- 1:14:00to guess. But to begin with Erlin Harlan,
- 1:14:03I think he would be a perfect edge rusher.
- 1:14:07All right? Now you put him out on the edge
- 1:14:09and here's my reasons why he's he's like, what is he 6436 foot
- 1:14:154, all 6 foot 4 of him and he's fast.
- 1:14:17Now you put him on that out and on on the edge on the outskirts.
- 1:14:21Soon as that ball snaps, he flies round.
- 1:14:23You know, and even if he's getting held up by by any sort
- 1:14:26of offensive lineman, he's gangly arms because he's he's a
- 1:14:29long guy. He's a long guy.
- 1:14:31He could just get around get himself in there, You know, like
- 1:14:35like reach round for the QB, stop the run games, things like
- 1:14:39that. When it comes down to it, I
- 1:14:41think, yeah, you could, you could probably put him out wide,
- 1:14:46his foot and use his height there.
- 1:14:47But I just think it because he's strong.
- 1:14:49He's always been that strong physical build of a man.
- 1:14:53He's always man and all players in box.
- 1:14:55And if you think about it and I just think putting him out wide
- 1:14:58there, put him in someone like Dan Campbell's the Lion and he'd
- 1:15:01be like the Nordic Wrecking Ball or whatever.
- 1:15:04I think. I just think he'd be perfect
- 1:15:05there for me. So my multiverse, so my
- 1:15:11multiverse trade is getting early Highland from I think, I
- 1:15:15think I actually pronounced his name wrong to begin with as
- 1:15:17well. Early Highland from Man City,
- 1:15:19fetching him over to the NFL, getting him on the Detroit Lions
- 1:15:24as an edge rusher. There's my multiverse trade.
- 1:15:28I'm mostly intrigued by that from the financial side of
- 1:15:32things like what the hell is he getting paid at City now?
- 1:15:34And what would he be getting paid at the Detroit Lions?
- 1:15:37Like I see it, I'm just not sure if it's like, I mean, from
- 1:15:41football terms, it's as in like soccer football terms.
- 1:15:45It's quite a a machine really. And it's tall, it's powerful.
- 1:15:50But from an NFL point of view, is he at the end?
- 1:15:55I don't know. I see.
- 1:15:56I see the rationale as fast, as explosive, as long as gangly, I
- 1:15:59get it, I get it. I just don't know if he's got
- 1:16:01that weight side of things. Whereas my guy.
- 1:16:07OK. My guy, when we're talking about
- 1:16:12weight, whether it's his weight or the weight that he shifts.
- 1:16:19OK. Eddie.
- 1:16:20Eddie Hall. God.
- 1:16:25OK. Like OK.
- 1:16:27Come on, So Eddie Hall is the world's strongest man champion
- 1:16:32in 2017, right? He's won Britain's strongest
- 1:16:36man, UK strongest man, England's strongest man a million times
- 1:16:40over, however many times it is. I don't, I don't know.
- 1:16:44He is an absolute beast, as in he is the beast.
- 1:16:49So he first set the record for the deadlift.
- 1:16:53He was the first man to lift half a tonne, 500 kilogrammes.
- 1:17:00This guy lifted and I'm there like, you know, I'm out of shape
- 1:17:06as shit at the minute. I've gone back to the gym and
- 1:17:09I'm there like, oh please, let me push these up a little and
- 1:17:13he's there. I'm dead lifting 500
- 1:17:16kilogrammes. Like it's absolutely barmy.
- 1:17:19So I'm talking like Eddie Hall 26/20/17 Time here is like an
- 1:17:25offensive line. I'm thinking a guard.
- 1:17:28So this man absolutely moves stuff.
- 1:17:31So I'm just looking at some of his records here.
- 1:17:34In the log lift it was a 213 kilogramme record.
- 1:17:39The axle press 216 a squat, a raw squat, 405 kilogrammes.
- 1:17:46A bench press, a bench press, 300 kilogrammes.
- 1:17:53Put this guy on my line and I will go nowhere other than
- 1:17:58behind him and he can take me wherever the hell he wants.
- 1:18:02I don't even care if he's slow as shit.
- 1:18:04Nobody's. Talking to me, that's my only
- 1:18:07concern with him is his athleticism and his speed.
- 1:18:11But being guard, you suppose you don't really need to be that
- 1:18:14fast unless you're pulling, but you're not going to pull him
- 1:18:16that much. But we research colleges, took
- 1:18:18the picture into our little group chat here of every hole in
- 1:18:21some pads. And you know, he actually looks
- 1:18:22smaller in pads than what he does without him.
- 1:18:24I don't know how that works but. He does, to be fair.
- 1:18:27But like, I, I love it. I love it.
- 1:18:30And I would love to see that match up between the edge rusher
- 1:18:33and the guard, like if it came on the inside of a little cross
- 1:18:36or something. And the Highland Hall little
- 1:18:39rivalry going off, I mean, Eddie.
- 1:18:42Hall over Holland anytime. I see you say this, but I've got
- 1:18:47the reach. I've got the reach of how?
- 1:18:49And Eddie also get to him first, his little stubby arms going to
- 1:18:51get to him. He's the Reach is there for
- 1:18:54Harlan, for me. Dare you say that to his face?
- 1:18:57Say that. To his face, maybe one day,
- 1:19:01maybe one day. But yeah, the multiverse trade
- 1:19:04is there. We've got the 2 picks in Erlin
- 1:19:07Holland, edge rusher and Eddie Hall the guard 2 very similar
- 1:19:11positions as well. Hey guys, if if you like this
- 1:19:14little concept we've done here a little little bit of fun, let us
- 1:19:17know in the comments below who would you have as well.
- 1:19:19We're going to, we're going to touch back on this in a few
- 1:19:22weeks time. We'll get some more ideas and
- 1:19:24stuff swinging through. But we're nearly at the end of
- 1:19:28the episode, which means one thing is coming up and that's
- 1:19:32Carl's conundrum. Now we had a comment off of on
- 1:19:39on on our Spotify basically saying if anyone gets this
- 1:19:42Carl's conundrum without using Google, they're a better man
- 1:19:45than me. All right, And we're going to
- 1:19:47touch on last week's Carl's Conundrum first before we go
- 1:19:49into the into this week's. So if you don't know what Carl's
- 1:19:52conundrum is, first of all, we'll give you a question
- 1:19:55that'll go on all the socials at ABNF pod.
- 1:19:58You can then get involved, answer it, drop it in the
- 1:20:00comments, do whatever you want to do with it.
- 1:20:01Don't cheat, don't Google. No one likes.
- 1:20:03No one likes it when that happens.
- 1:20:05And then we'll touch on the week after.
- 1:20:07So last week's question was which player holds the record
- 1:20:09for the most reps on the bench press and NFL scouting combined
- 1:20:14with 51 reps and that was Justin Ernest in 1999.
- 1:20:19So some time back. But if you got it, well done.
- 1:20:22Bravo. Good on you.
- 1:20:23Without using Google. Nice.
- 1:20:26All in the I had no idea. I'm not going to lie, Brad, I
- 1:20:29want to get that with 100 guesses if I'm going to be
- 1:20:31perfectly honest. But you know, it is what it is
- 1:20:36going on to this week's Carl's conundrum.
- 1:20:40So your Carl's conundrum for this week is who is the highest
- 1:20:45drafted kicker in NFL history? So who is the highest drafted
- 1:20:51kicker in NFL history? Have a think.
- 1:20:53Let us know this, this question. We get put out on our on all of
- 1:20:57our socials, our stories. So do me a favour share it if
- 1:20:59you can do as well get your friends involved with it.
- 1:21:02They'll go in there. And if you've got any idea, let
- 1:21:04us know in the comments below. Who is the highest drafted NFL
- 1:21:07kicker? So who is the highest drafted
- 1:21:10kicker in NFL history? Now I've got no idea with this
- 1:21:15because as soon as it comes out like the second round, I
- 1:21:18couldn't tell you who's who like unless the notable names.
- 1:21:23So I've got no idea with this. But then again, I've got no idea
- 1:21:26with any of the colours conundrums because I just, I
- 1:21:28just don't. I've got no idea.
- 1:21:31I feel like it's every week we just say it's like, yeah, not a
- 1:21:34clue. Anyone else?
- 1:21:36We've done our research for the episode.
- 1:21:38It's the guys at homes turn to do some research.
- 1:21:41You can let us know. You can give us some knowledge.
- 1:21:43So who is the highest of the kicker in NFL history?
- 1:21:45Let us know on there. But Brad, that's it.
- 1:21:51Episode done. Episode 10, actually. 10 It's
- 1:21:56been emotional. Episode 10 done and dusted.
- 1:22:01Anything you'd like to say before we'd sign it all off?
- 1:22:06Yeah, no one cares about kickers and that's about it.
- 1:22:10So thanks for tuning in. As always, don't forget to catch
