- 0:39SPEAKER_06: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by Guns Up Nation, part of the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_06: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall is with me.
- 0:49SPEAKER_06: And we also have two very special guests here from the No Doubter podcast, Bared Mostick and Travis Lofley.
- 0:56SPEAKER_06: Fellas, how are we doing today?
- 0:58SPEAKER_07: Doing well, man.
- 0:59SPEAKER_07: It's an honor to be here.
- 1:00SPEAKER_07: Yeah, man.
- 1:01SPEAKER_07: It's a pleasure to be here.
- 1:02SPEAKER_07: It's uh we're ready to talk a little baseball, a little bit of tech, a little bit of major league baseball.
- 1:06SPEAKER_07: We uh we're just ready to bring it about all things on the diamond.
- 1:09SPEAKER_09: Well, we're just excited to have two guys that really know what they're talking about with baseball.
- 1:14SPEAKER_09: I mean, whatever comes to Steve and I's knowledge, you know, we do our best.
- 1:18SPEAKER_09: I mean, we do our best with all the sports, but you know, the the listeners know we're not the most intelligent guys when it comes to anything.
- 1:23SPEAKER_09: But baseball, I mean, we're glad to have y'all to really lean on.
- 1:26SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we'll do our best, you know.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: And hey, we're all tech grads.
- 1:30SPEAKER_04: It's it was fun when we had y'all on our pod, and it's our first guest appearance on any pod of any sorts.
- 1:35SPEAKER_04: And what better to than than to do it here?
- 1:37SPEAKER_04: Just all bonnet over the love of tech baseball.
- 1:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 1:42SPEAKER_06: Had to do a home and home with you guys.
- 1:44SPEAKER_06: So uh, you know, had to return the favor because y'all were very gracious to have us on your podcast not too long ago.
- 1:49SPEAKER_06: But I think this is a good time of year to have this pod because you know, we're right in the middle of a March Madness run for Texas Tech.
- 1:55SPEAKER_06: Everybody's invested in basketball right now, and then you know, spring training just started for football.
- 2:01SPEAKER_06: And so uh we really wanted to update the people because baseball season's been going on for a while now.
- 2:06SPEAKER_06: I mean, we're sitting here 20 plus games into the year, and some people may just not know, you know, what's been going on with baseball.
- 2:13SPEAKER_06: So this is kind of a refresher, kind of letting letting you know how we've been doing the players to watch moving forward once this basketball season does end.
- 2:21SPEAKER_06: Hopefully it doesn't end here soon, but you know, it is eventually going to end.
- 2:25SPEAKER_06: So uh this is just a podcast update for the people out here uh with a baseball update.
- 2:30SPEAKER_06: But first, I wanted to start with you guys because y'all have a great podcast, the No Doubter Podcast.
- 2:35SPEAKER_06: Where did you two meet and how did y'all get the podcast going?
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: Uh so um we went we met at Texas Tech, you know, that because that's where all great things happen.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: Um, we were a part of an organization called Crew.
- 2:49SPEAKER_04: It's it's not it's not the organization where you row the boats, it's it's CRU, uh formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: It's a Christian organization that would meet once a week, um, does Bible studies, things like that.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: And we met through that.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: We just had friends and we just kept going, I think most of the time, like basically all four years, and we just met and we would go on retreats together and we would go to Panama City beach together.
- 3:13SPEAKER_07: Oh, that was a fun trip.
- 3:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 3:15SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, some of the only sober people on the midst of just absolute debauchery out there.
- 3:21SPEAKER_07: Um, but yeah, we uh both fall 2011 through spring of 2015, uh Techstech grads, um, yeah, had part of the crew together, had friend groups to kind of cross with each other, and um yeah, ended up reconnecting about starting this uh about a year and a half ago almost.
- 3:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, you know, I'm the I'm the one who came up with it.
- 3:40SPEAKER_04: Uh 2020 came around and I was nearing 30.
- 3:43SPEAKER_04: I am 30 now.
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: So, but I you know, I was on the verge of 30.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: And guys, uh, for you youngsters out there, yeah, there's this thing that you come across called a quarter life crisis.
- 3:55SPEAKER_04: And uh, you know, it doesn't happen to everybody, but it happened to me.
- 3:58SPEAKER_04: And one of my friends came up with a podcast, he's also someone we went to crew with.
- 4:03SPEAKER_04: Um, he has a libertarian podcast called Against the Mob.
- 4:07SPEAKER_04: So if you're interested in hearing political uh libertarian end of the spectrum, it's pretty good.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: Uh, but anyway, so he started a podcast.
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: I'm like, if he could do it, I could do it.
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: So I did a ton of research, and it turns out doing a podcast is not as hard as it looks.
- 4:24SPEAKER_04: And when you think about a podcast, you got to think, what can I talk about that I'm passionate about for an extended amount of time?
- 4:30SPEAKER_04: And I came up with a list and I narrowed it down to baseball basically, and then reached out to Trav.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: Uh, when within like two weeks of me reaching out to Travis, we recorded our first episode.
- 4:46SPEAKER_07: Wow, yeah, you reached out to me on like a fry random Friday night at the end of uh end of February, just a cold winter evening.
- 4:53SPEAKER_07: I'm like, I get a message that comes through, and I'm like, I haven't talked to Barrett in God knows how long.
- 4:58SPEAKER_07: And uh, and uh yeah, yeah, you explained, kind of gave me a short pitch in that message uh of what you were thinking with the podcast.
- 5:05SPEAKER_07: I I was I was thinking, you know, I'm probably gonna say yes to this, but I just need to kind of stew on it a little bit over overnight.
- 5:11SPEAKER_07: Uh so woke up the next morning, had my thoughts more composed about it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_07: Uh, we we discussed a little bit and it's like, hey, this sounds like a ton of fun.
- 5:18SPEAKER_07: And surely enough, uh, shortly after that point of actually kind of discussing it more, uh, figured out the yeah, kind of like our visions for it and overall, just like what we wanted it to be on a regular basis to be ultimately something that's fun.
- 5:31SPEAKER_07: If at any point this stops being fun for us, we'll quit.
- 5:35SPEAKER_07: Um, but just ultimately be a fun outlet uh that's creative for us that introduces us to new people, uh, allows us to enjoy the game and uh even more.
- 5:44SPEAKER_07: And uh and I feel like you know, it's certainly man, y'all y'all are talking about y'all's lack of uh baseball knowledge.
- 5:51SPEAKER_07: I'll not throw y'all under the bus or anything, but it's it does.
- 5:55SPEAKER_07: Uh I mean, I feel like I still feel like you know, compared to what Barrett has taught me just over this past year, I have I very much have realized, man, I still have a lot to learn in terms of how I talk about this sport and just how I process things, but I feel like I'm picking up on it, like I surround myself with it more and more.
- 6:11SPEAKER_07: And it's like it's like an it's almost like doing some a project like this is like when you're extending yourself in this kind of way, it's like speaking another language.
- 6:21SPEAKER_07: And you kind of like the best way to learn that language is to immerse your immerse yourself in it.
- 6:25SPEAKER_07: And I feel like I have very much had this opportunity here with doing this to just immerse myself in the sport and immerse myself in this type of world, like kind of rhythm of living, of like recording podcasts and doing this as uh as a side project.
- 6:38SPEAKER_07: So it's yeah, it's been fun and it's been an out of personal growth for sure being able to do this with him.
- 6:43SPEAKER_07: And uh, I'm really happy that uh they reached out me uh to me to do it because it's been a ton of fun so far.
- 6:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's been a good way for us too to reconnect uh and talking about the game.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: And Trav, you know, you're selling yourself short here because when it comes to college baseball, Travis in particular, his knowledge is about as good as anybody.
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: I've heard multiple college baseball podcasts.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: Uh I've heard the number one baseball cup college baseball podcast in the world, and just his is as good as anybody because he just knows the game.
- 7:08SPEAKER_04: But um, my my love is more so on the MLB end of the spectrum, but I've been getting more into college baseball because it's a stained sport, it's either the cracks of the bat or the pings of the composites.
- 7:21SPEAKER_07: We we started doing recording college baseball segments on uh on Sunday nights because we uh we didn't know how long this lockout was gonna last.
- 7:29SPEAKER_07: And so it's like, okay, we need to put out content, we need to keep the juices fresh, the muscles.
- 7:34SPEAKER_08: It's more of a good thing.
- 7:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, no.
- 7:37SPEAKER_07: So uh we've done that, and it's uh yeah, it's been cool learning more of like the players across the sports and the teams to to to look out for.
- 7:44SPEAKER_07: And I think this is a big thing with me with college sports in general, is like I I uh I very much like I I learn more.
- 7:52SPEAKER_07: The this is how it is with Texas Tech with anything, and baseball included.
- 7:57SPEAKER_07: I understand more about tech and the Big 12 when I understand what's going on across other conferences.
- 8:04SPEAKER_07: Like what happens in college sports does not just live on this little island of Lubbock, Texas.
- 8:08SPEAKER_07: Like there's there's ripple effects everywhere and little things that that that are just like interconnected there, that just that the way my brain works and completely nerds out on that.
- 8:17SPEAKER_07: I love that as part of college sports.
- 8:19SPEAKER_07: And so that's why I care uh that's why I care ultimately about about it all.
- 8:23SPEAKER_07: I mean, obviously, my my fandom lies with Texas Tech, uh, but you know, my my care for uh for the college sports and the sports of college baseball uh goes across the conferences in general.
- 8:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and that's and that's awesome to have from both of y'all because you bring so many different aspects in of you know, passions of whether it's college or MLB or whatever, you know, all different parts of the game, and that's a really cool thing to bring together into one podcast.
- 8:51SPEAKER_06: But uh, you know, I I think we pretty much started it like in the same way, both of our podcasts.
- 8:56SPEAKER_06: I mean, 2020, that was when we started it too, and just kind of you know, want to talk about sports.
- 9:01SPEAKER_06: Ours was right in the middle of the pandemic when everything was canceled, and so it was like, I just I I want I want sports back, I need something back.
- 9:08SPEAKER_06: And luckily Tristan was here to shoot the shit with me for you know an hour a week and uh it's been fun.
- 9:14SPEAKER_06: But but seriously, y'all's podcast is is fantastic.
- 9:18SPEAKER_06: Uh, everything baseball you could ever want to know, I can learn from you two guys because uh me and Tristan, like Tristan mentioned earlier, and like Travis mentioned earlier as well, we're just not you know the smartest when it comes to that sport.
- 9:31SPEAKER_06: We both didn't really grow up playing it, watching it, anything like that.
- 9:34SPEAKER_06: But once we got to Texas Tech and we started seeing a really winning program and started going to games and having a good time and everything, baseball just grew on us more and more.
- 9:44SPEAKER_06: And so we've developed kind of a later love for it.
- 9:46SPEAKER_06: But uh, that's really awesome to hear from you guys.
- 9:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean, it's it's been it's been pretty easy to get into.
- 9:53SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's a beautiful game.
- 9:54SPEAKER_09: I've definitely enjoyed it more, you know.
- 9:55SPEAKER_09: I since I have skin in the game, I never had skin in the game before.
- 9:58SPEAKER_09: And that's I before before I got uh into Tex Tech, I wasn't really into sports at all.
- 10:03SPEAKER_09: But once I was like, hey, I have this badge on my school, they have that badge on their helmet.
- 10:06SPEAKER_09: It just really took off for me.
- 10:08SPEAKER_09: Um, I gotta say that y'all, that y'all have the best podcast name ever.
- 10:12SPEAKER_09: I love the no doubt name.
- 10:14SPEAKER_09: I think y'all probably that's probably the best asset after y'all's minds is is the podcast name.
- 10:19SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 10:20SPEAKER_04: I was thinking of names that are baseball related, and uh I've I've I came up with like full count, bases loaded, something like that.
- 10:28SPEAKER_04: And I would keep looking, and there's a bunch of full counts.
- 10:31SPEAKER_04: There's a bunch of three and oh, intentional bulk, intentional walk.
- 10:35SPEAKER_04: But then I heard I thought, no doubter.
- 10:38SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, I looked, there wasn't any, and I'm like, I'm going with it.
- 10:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we got it, we're going with it right now.
- 10:44SPEAKER_06: We found it, check it off.
- 10:46SPEAKER_06: That's us.
- 10:46SPEAKER_05: Yes, exactly.
- 10:47SPEAKER_05: That's awesome.
- 10:48SPEAKER_06: We yeah, we had the same kind of similar deal when we were kind of coming up with the name, and obviously, ours isn't something super crazy or anything, talking tech.
- 10:56SPEAKER_06: I mean, you get it, but um, you know, like literally the initials of Texas Tech.
- 11:00SPEAKER_07: It's just talking.
- 11:01SPEAKER_07: Exactly.
- 11:01SPEAKER_06: So I was like, it's easy, it's simple.
- 11:03SPEAKER_06: The people recognize it, uh, you know, we're going with it.
- 11:06SPEAKER_09: But um it took my expertise to narrow it down, though.
- 11:10SPEAKER_09: It's like, we're gonna call it two guys talking Texas Tech.
- 11:13SPEAKER_05: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 11:15SPEAKER_05: You never had this technology, I never had this extremely long name.
- 11:19SPEAKER_05: It was probably a joke when I sent you.
- 11:23SPEAKER_08: But uh, how about just talking tech?
- 11:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah, how about that?
- 11:27SPEAKER_08: I want to take credit for it then.
- 11:29SPEAKER_08: How about that?
- 11:30SPEAKER_06: Let me have it.
- 11:30SPEAKER_06: Okay, you can have credit for the name, Tristan.
- 11:33SPEAKER_06: Um, but all right, fellas, Texas Tech baseball.
- 11:37SPEAKER_06: We're all alumni of Texas Tech, the greatest university on the planet.
- 11:41SPEAKER_06: And our baseball season has started off pretty well this year.
- 11:44SPEAKER_06: Uh, an 18-4 record, 11-0 at home, undefeated.
- 11:48SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, some really big wins, uh, some some kind of bad losses if you're looking at the grand scheme.
- 11:54SPEAKER_06: But um, overall, what have y'all taken from Texas Tech season so far?
- 11:59SPEAKER_07: I personally am excited about the upside for this team because I think uh here's the thing.
- 12:05SPEAKER_07: I think the average Texas Tech baseball fan is used to a as has been the history of Texas Tech baseball, even pre-Tim Tadlock, um, is a offensive, is a team that is driven by offense, um, that you know has had solid has had solid to decent to serviceable pitching um that comes uh that comes in, you know, we've had a couple of like really good years historically in this past decade of the tadlock era, where it seems like, you know, those uh the the great offense with has also come together with great defense and a pretty commanding presence on the mound together to to lead to some good runs in Omaha.
- 12:44SPEAKER_07: Um, but I think you know this is a this is kind of a different year here.
- 12:48SPEAKER_07: Uh aside from JC Young and a few other pieces at the plate, uh there are just some newer, there's kind of a newer cast of characters this year, and it's been more of kind of a work in progress with the offense.
- 13:00SPEAKER_07: But man, I do not like this is kind of like a unique piece of college baseball compared to major league baseball because of the metal bat.
- 13:08SPEAKER_07: Uh, the pitching, yeah, having a commanding presence on the mound, uh, but both starting wise with your ace going into the bullpen, uh, your depth that you have there, that can take you pretty far.
- 13:21SPEAKER_07: Um, and you can actually build a good bit around that, and it gives time for the rest of the team to kind of develop with that.
- 13:28SPEAKER_07: Uh, and yeah, you know, the first uh the first week or so of the season, uh, when it had that uh those first few games um out in Arlington as part of the State Farm Classic out there, you know, they went one and two that first uh that first weekend.
- 13:40SPEAKER_07: You get um you get uh yeah, you get a win over Michigan, uh yeah, a walk-off win uh from Owen Washburn uh from that.
- 13:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah, you know, Barrett Owen Washburn is the son of Jared Washburn, the uh the former Los Angeles Angels uh pitcher.
- 13:55SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so it's uh uh one one of the uh major league baseball legacies we have uh here on the team.
- 14:01SPEAKER_07: Um, but uh yeah, and so it was, but there was just you know, you play three really good teams.
- 14:07SPEAKER_07: I mean, Auburn, Auburn didn't make the NCAA tournament for uh out of the SEC last year, uh, but they're probably trending in a direction of getting back into the tournament as an at-large bit and as a two or three seed in someone's regional.
- 14:19SPEAKER_07: Um, and then you you lose to Arizona, who is just in like historically a great program.
- 14:24SPEAKER_07: And I'm being out there in Arlington, like looking at those guys playing, those are all grown men across the field.
- 14:29SPEAKER_07: They've got a got an absolute stud of a catcher, uh uh Daniel Susak, who like not only is great defensively, but like can also absolutely rake at the plate.
- 14:39SPEAKER_07: Um, so you have you play three really good teams there, um, but just you start one and two there, and it kind of looked like Kendall Rogers even said on one of the D1 podcasts after that first week, like he was very concerned with tech, like seeing just kind of like some of the gaping holes that it looked like with the team at that point.
- 14:55SPEAKER_07: But the team, but the team is more kind of filled into this point uh of guys who you know are having much better at bats or getting on base, whether by hit or uh uh or by walk, just you know, working out pitch counts, uh just being very strategic about it.
- 15:09SPEAKER_07: And I feel like this is a you know we're seeing kind of a unique Tim Tadlock-led team this year.
- 15:13SPEAKER_07: And it seems like they definitely are more acutely aware of and taking advantage uh or attempting to of uh of small ball type situations.
- 15:21SPEAKER_07: So really like, hey, get on base, bunt if necessary.
- 15:25SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, don't don't shy away from uh from contact with the bats if you know it's uh if it's a matter of bringing in uh uh bringing in a sack fly for uh for pushing the run across the plate.
- 15:36SPEAKER_07: Um I I feel like you know there is a I know I'm kind of a I'm kind of a little bit old school, maybe in this manner of like I really I like to see more of kind of kind of these chess match type of games.
- 15:48SPEAKER_07: It seems like uh like tech is playing here.
- 15:50SPEAKER_07: And there's some great uh yeah, there's just been some great performances on the mounds.
- 15:56SPEAKER_07: And there's some guys that are showing they're actually really pretty stout defensively and are very athletic out on the outfield that really uh uh help tech with their fielding.
- 16:03SPEAKER_07: And um yeah, and I think this has been a decent schedule for tech here.
- 16:07SPEAKER_07: They've definitely have some some very good wins that have come out of it.
- 16:10SPEAKER_07: They are uh uh they're number 17 right now, I believe, in the RPI.
- 16:15SPEAKER_07: So going into conference play, that's very good.
- 16:16SPEAKER_07: I mean, they're we're definitely looking at uh teaming o's putting themselves in position for hosting, uh anywhere just from one of the uh nine through sixteen spots all the way up into uh up into a national seed, kind of later in the year.
- 16:29SPEAKER_07: Uh, but yeah, they're three and two right now, uh in quad one wins, uh four and one quad two, one and one in quad three, and ten and no in quad four.
- 16:38SPEAKER_07: Um, and ultimately, you know, none none of the losses.
- 16:41SPEAKER_07: Uh they play they play a decent schedule at this point.
- 16:44SPEAKER_07: The uh I wouldn't, I would say, you know, I feel like tadlock kind of strategically scheduled a little bit uh a little bit lighter this year, um, knowing kind of some of the new pieces that he was going to be bringing in.
- 16:55SPEAKER_07: Uh, but still good teams here.
- 16:57SPEAKER_07: I don't see us as a joke of a schedule by any stretch.
- 16:59SPEAKER_07: I mean, there's teams that have played much worse there, uh, and they've gotten some good wins out of them.
- 17:03SPEAKER_07: And uh, I it this team just seems to have a lot of chemistry together that they built already early on.
- 17:10SPEAKER_07: Um, and I think there's only upside as the season progresses.
- 17:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, they only have four losses, two of which came in that opening weekend.
- 17:17SPEAKER_04: The loss to Auburn was two to one, and the loss to Arizona was 13-2.
- 17:21SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, it happens to baseball.
- 17:23SPEAKER_04: You can't win every weekend.
- 17:24SPEAKER_04: And then their third loss was against the defending champs, Mississippi State.
- 17:29SPEAKER_04: That took place in Biloxi, Mississippi, which is on the very southern tip.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: But then they did win the other game, seven to two.
- 17:36SPEAKER_04: So they split the series with the uh defending champs, which was that and we were talking about this in our podcast when we were all together.
- 17:43SPEAKER_04: That was the first test, and splitting the series.
- 17:45SPEAKER_04: I mean, you could say you passed it, it would be great if you swept, but splitting it is the next best thing.
- 17:51SPEAKER_04: And then their most recent loss came against Iowa, but I mean, they split that series as well.
- 17:57SPEAKER_07: So um they have Iowa's probably gonna be a contending team this year in the Big Ten.
- 18:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, so that you know so the moral of the story is that it's their losses have come against hard teams, but in every other component, they've taken care of business and all the college sports, they're facing, you know, the Ivy Leagues of the World and sport, you know, teams that we've never even heard of.
- 18:18SPEAKER_04: It's just there's so many.
- 18:20SPEAKER_04: And uh it's just across the board, there's not a breakout star, but it's not like football where you can have a Tom Brady and carry the team.
- 18:29SPEAKER_04: It's it takes uh an entire team, and you have uh the offense spring spread out, people getting on base, drawing walks, and then pitching.
- 18:38SPEAKER_04: It's just a team effort, so and they're hanging in there, they're being like in the middle of the top of 25, but they're definitely not going down.
- 18:47SPEAKER_07: They're number 16 right now.
- 18:48SPEAKER_07: They were they started out number 14, and yeah, it was yeah, ultimately, like Kendall, Aaron, uh, Mike Rooney, uh, all the guys kind of that are part of that podcast network there.
- 18:59SPEAKER_07: They were they it was kind of in unison, a consensus of man, like we we ultimately, like we have a belief, you know, by come the end of the year, Tim Tadlock is like one of like the best like X's and no situational coaches in all of baseball there and like understanding how to use things, but we also see that there's just there's a lot uh of new names here that we have no idea what to expect here.
- 19:22SPEAKER_07: Um, and just you know, we had uh this team over the offseason had quite a few guys you know that were part of the class, but ultimately decided to go pro instead of the college route.
- 19:31SPEAKER_07: Um, and so it just created a bit more of an interesting situation here, uh compared to to previous offseasons for tech.
- 19:41SPEAKER_07: But I believe, yeah, absolutely they're moving in the right direction.
- 19:43SPEAKER_07: They they dropped just a little bit to start, they've kind of made some incremental increases uh back again by playing some decent teams, haven't made as big of increases as other teams because their our strength of schedule hasn't been as um uh as intense as those other teams.
- 19:57SPEAKER_07: But I mean, you really cannot ask for like you know, for a baseline at this point right now, heading into Big 12 play, being 16th ranked team in the country per D1, uh heading into uh heading into conference play this weekend against an incredibly tough Texas team, like a potential like just like a team that is like a looking kind of like possibly like an all-time great college baseball team right now.
- 20:20SPEAKER_07: There's um stacked trying to bring yeah, they're absolutely stacked and bringing them into Lubbock um to play.
- 20:25SPEAKER_07: And like, you know, you get I here's the thing, I don't think they get I'm probably jumping ahead of myself.
- 20:31SPEAKER_07: I don't think they get swept.
- 20:32SPEAKER_07: Uh, I think it's gonna be tough for them to sweep the longhorns.
- 20:35SPEAKER_07: Uh be would be a static with one win.
- 20:38SPEAKER_07: I would be uh I I'd be happy with one win, it'd be a static with two wins and getting a series out of this.
- 20:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I think the good thing about what Texas Tech has done this year, they've won the games they needed to, and you know, they should win.
- 20:50SPEAKER_06: You know, they're not dropping these here and there, they're not really showing that they're uh underperforming against bad competition or anything like that.
- 20:56SPEAKER_06: I mean, and also we're 11 and 0 at home at Dan Law.
- 20:59SPEAKER_06: I mean, that's our place that well, you know, it's it's tough to win there, and we've made that a great home field advantage for us over the years.
- 21:07SPEAKER_06: Um, and luckily this UT series is going to be a Dan Law, but we'll get into that in a second.
- 21:12SPEAKER_06: I did want to touch on a few players first.
- 21:14SPEAKER_06: Uh, we'll get into pitching also in a second, but uh hitting wise, I mean, the emergence of Parker Kelly has been a really nice sight to see for Texas Tech, and a guy that we didn't really expect to be doing what he's doing so far.
- 21:28SPEAKER_06: He's leading the league in home run or leading the the team in home runs with six.
- 21:32SPEAKER_06: Uh obviously, Jace Young is Jace Young.
- 21:34SPEAKER_06: You know, we all knew he was going to be fantastic, but he's got four on the season.
- 21:38SPEAKER_06: Ty Coleman's also hit a good amount.
- 21:40SPEAKER_06: Um, but I mean Parker Kelly, did y'all expect this from that guy?
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: Not necessarily.
- 21:46SPEAKER_04: I mean, the guy he knows he's been in the mix, uh, he's been you know playing most games, but yeah, he has a 319 batting average with a 1.06 um OPS.
- 21:57SPEAKER_04: And uh just for those who don't know what that means.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: I'll describe it as briefly briefly as I can.
- 22:02SPEAKER_04: Um there's on base on base percentage, which means there's the amount of times you get on base by either hit or a walk.
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: So are you with me so far?
- 22:10SPEAKER_04: That's on base percentage.
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: Slugging is a percentage of just how uh many extra base hits you get.
- 22:17SPEAKER_04: Like if you get a hit and it's a single, it's worth one.
- 22:21SPEAKER_04: If it's worth if it's a double, it's two, triple, three, uh, home run is four.
- 22:26SPEAKER_04: And they take all of those hits and they do the multipliers and they divide it by the bats.
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: And then OPS is on base plus slugging.
- 22:34SPEAKER_04: And so just to make it simple, um, just to make it simple, the average OPS is around 750.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: And you have Parker Kelly, who is at one point zero three six.
- 22:49SPEAKER_04: So that is well above average, and that that's a totality stat.
- 22:54SPEAKER_04: So it's not just home runs, it's it means he's drawing walks, he's hitting above 300, which is also really good.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: So he is emerging as a complete player amongst, and he's not even the best offensively, but he is definitely overperforming.
- 23:09SPEAKER_09: Do you want to turn to tune into the uh new doubters podcast?
- 23:13SPEAKER_09: You don't you don't just get baseball analysis, you get a math lesson with it.
- 23:17SPEAKER_09: Oh, p I know we all need to brush up.
- 23:19SPEAKER_07: Yes, yeah.
- 23:20SPEAKER_07: If you if you ever look at look at any sites and you just wonder like what are all these different lines I'm looking at here statistically wise across uh across players, um, no matter where they are out on the field, uh, we will definitely break it down for you on there.
- 23:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because I I mean I'm not gonna lie to you, but I looked up the statistics of Texas Tech.
- 23:38SPEAKER_06: I looked at this and it's like reading like Russian.
- 23:41SPEAKER_06: I have no idea what what a lot of this means.
- 23:44SPEAKER_06: I'm looking at CG and SOJ, SHO and SV.
- 23:48SPEAKER_06: I'm like, I don't know what any of this means.
- 23:50SPEAKER_06: I'll take the H and I'll take the R and I'll take the E on the R.
- 23:54SPEAKER_09: Let's just say Stephen.
- 23:56SPEAKER_09: Stephen didn't major in anything numbers related.
- 23:58SPEAKER_06: No, no, journalism major here.
- 24:00SPEAKER_07: No, we're we are college of meaning communication guys, Stephen and I.
- 24:05SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I I get uh I get on the benefactor of uh Barrett's engineering background here.
- 24:10SPEAKER_07: So he numbers come more naturally to him.
- 24:13SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, it's just I mean it it just takes practice to get used to the stats, but you know, it's just it has a better understanding.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: And Parker Kelly, uh, he has an on-base percentage of 425.
- 24:24SPEAKER_04: That means he's getting on base more than 40% of the time.
- 24:28SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 24:29SPEAKER_04: And that's and that's huge.
- 24:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:31SPEAKER_04: So I mean, and then you got Jace Young who has a 538 on-base percentage.
- 24:35SPEAKER_04: So he's getting on base over half the time.
- 24:39SPEAKER_06: I it just amazes me every time I see one of the young stats from what their time at Texas Tech, whether it's Josh or Jace.
- 24:46SPEAKER_06: I mean, both those guys have been absolute blessings for Texas Tech baseball.
- 24:50SPEAKER_06: It's ridiculous.
- 24:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, drawing walks is an underrated aspect of the game.
- 24:53SPEAKER_04: It's boring, yes, but hey, you get on first, you can steal second, you the guy can drive you.
- 24:59SPEAKER_07: And it works good with this lineup here where you've got better hitters uh in certain holes here.
- 25:04SPEAKER_07: And so like the the ability uh across the lineup for guys to get on base here, which I think we're increasingly seeing with uh with this tech baseball team, is a certainly a plus for it.
- 25:13SPEAKER_07: I mean, this is a yeah, this is this is a a chess playing tech team here.
- 25:18SPEAKER_07: They uh they're they're very calculated in what they're doing.
- 25:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 25:22SPEAKER_06: I mean, y'all just y'all just gave me the rundown of the uh the Jonah Hill uh uh scene in Moneyball there.
- 25:29SPEAKER_06: He gets on base, and that's what we need right now.
- 25:32SPEAKER_06: Such an underrated matters, underrated piece of the of the game, and it's uh it's fantastic to see we have these guys that are getting on base so often and being that reliable.
- 25:43SPEAKER_06: Um, I you already mentioned him earlier, but uh Owen Washburn has been a really nice surprise.
- 25:48SPEAKER_06: I mean, obviously, we saw his name early on in the season when he hit the the walk-off hit uh to go and beat Michigan there.
- 25:55SPEAKER_06: But freshman, he's coming in.
- 25:57SPEAKER_06: I mean, I never heard of the guy before.
- 25:59SPEAKER_06: Uh obviously, probably a pretty highly rated recruit because he's going to Texas Tech.
- 26:03SPEAKER_06: We have those classes now, not to brag or anything.
- 26:05SPEAKER_06: But uh he's a freshman over here from Webster, Wisconsin.
- 26:08SPEAKER_06: He's second on the team in hits, and he's got 19 RBIs on the season.
- 26:12SPEAKER_06: Uh, how how awesome is it to have this guy on the team coming kind of from out of nowhere?
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: You I mean, you need playmakers on this team, and the more the merrier.
- 26:21SPEAKER_04: Uh, this guy's batting 355 batting average, uh 987 OPS plus, 474 on base percentage.
- 26:28SPEAKER_04: So getting on base on pretty much almost half the time.
- 26:31SPEAKER_04: Um, and you know, he's got two honors on the year, but really, I mean, the long ball, I mean, that's what puts, you know, that's what everybody loves.
- 26:38SPEAKER_04: But I mean, his stats speak for themselves.
- 26:41SPEAKER_04: Uh, I mean, you're getting on base almost half the time.
- 26:44SPEAKER_04: If we can have everybody doing that, then we're gonna be a really tough team to beat.
- 26:48SPEAKER_04: And so he is doing awesome.
- 26:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 26:52SPEAKER_06: Um, any other guys that you maybe are pleasantly surprised about, other guys that we should touch on uh from a batting aspect.
- 27:02SPEAKER_07: I Coleman seems like the Stephen Smith starter pack, honestly.
- 27:06SPEAKER_07: Like it's like you kind of look at him like he's got that same sort of build, just same sort of style of play.
- 27:12SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, just guy that you know is athletic, also yeah, gets on base a ton.
- 27:17SPEAKER_07: Uh good hitter, good situational guy.
- 27:20SPEAKER_07: Uh, yeah, with that sort of awareness.
- 27:22SPEAKER_07: Um, yeah, Ty Coleman's been been great.
- 27:24SPEAKER_07: You know, he he missed, I think, six games uh so far through this year just because doing an injury situation, but he's back now.
- 27:30SPEAKER_07: I mean, yeah, 350 batting average and uh and four home runs at this point.
- 27:34SPEAKER_07: I mean, yeah, he's just behind Parker Kelly in that regard.
- 27:36SPEAKER_09: I was about to say, you're you're you're just you're talking about this guy so casually.
- 27:39SPEAKER_09: He's fifth in the Big 12 in Gingers, and he said he's missed six games.
- 27:42SPEAKER_09: That's incredible to already get up on that leaderboard like that.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: I know, yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_04: And I mean, Ty Coleman, he has a 650 slugging percentage.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: You know who also has a 650 slugging percentage on the Tech to Tech Red Raiders?
- 27:55SPEAKER_04: Jace Young.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: To be in the same echelon as this guy is incredible.
- 27:59SPEAKER_07: Jace Young has the most unique swing, like you know, kind of like stance and swing uh of a player out there.
- 28:05SPEAKER_07: So it looks it looks more like a golf swing than it does uh uh than does like swinging the baseball.
- 28:12SPEAKER_07: I mean, you know, there's there's kind of crossover between between the motions there, but you know, he brings it like very kind of more like instead of kind of more over the shoulder, he kind of brings it directly back and kind of gives it more of like a stance to kind of like lean into the swing and put the power through his body there.
- 28:28SPEAKER_07: Uh and it's just it's a yeah, it's it's unique to watch.
- 28:32SPEAKER_07: Um, and yeah, I mean, God, we get just gotta love the young brothers, especially Jace right now.
- 28:37SPEAKER_07: He's uh he is he's been fantastic for tech.
- 28:40SPEAKER_07: And I mean he's had more of a you know, he's kind of it kind of started out as a little bit of a quiet year for him, uh, but it's certainly the things are kind of heating up for him, and they're not kind of they are heating up for him much more over the past couple weeks.
- 28:52SPEAKER_07: Uh, it I think it was more of he, you know, he was dealing with being around guys that weren't as apt at the plate.
- 28:59SPEAKER_07: Uh, but you know, since that has improved around him, it uh he is benefiting off of that and it's opening up his game more for more that he can do based on the situation.
- 29:08SPEAKER_06: That's good.
- 29:09SPEAKER_06: That's the best news we could hear because uh we said this on the pod that we did on on Y'all's feed earlier this year.
- 29:15SPEAKER_06: This team is a work in progress, and we're gonna keep figuring ourselves out as the season goes.
- 29:19SPEAKER_06: And I and we've it's good to hear that Jace is kind of you know figuring himself out.
- 29:24SPEAKER_06: The team is all kind of molding together better uh than at the beginning.
- 29:29SPEAKER_06: And so uh, but let's get let's get into pitching right here because it's been an interesting season uh for Texas Tech in terms of pitching.
- 29:36SPEAKER_06: Uh, obviously, you have your stud, your ace in Brandon Birdsell, who's kind of your Saturday guy.
- 29:42SPEAKER_07: Um, but he was an 11th round guy that like we didn't even really expect to uh 11th round in the draft last year.
- 29:49SPEAKER_07: We didn't even really expect him to come back.
- 29:51SPEAKER_07: I don't think a lot of tech fans did.
- 29:52SPEAKER_07: You know, like for me, I guess it was more of kind of okay.
- 29:54SPEAKER_07: It's more of a 50-50 toss-up in my mind.
- 29:56SPEAKER_07: But I think a lot of people didn't expect it.
- 29:58SPEAKER_07: I just didn't think much of him.
- 29:59SPEAKER_07: I was like, oh, yep, been a great player for us, probably moving on.
- 30:03SPEAKER_07: Um, but he has come back, and my goodness, this guy has to be probably shooting up, uh, shooting up scouting reports and and draft boards at this point.
- 30:11SPEAKER_07: He is he is just he has been phenomenal for tech.
- 30:15SPEAKER_07: Yeah, has uh has three wins credited to him as a starter uh so far through this year and at 1.8 ERA.
- 30:22SPEAKER_07: Man, the 43 strikeouts on the year as well.
- 30:26SPEAKER_07: Uh that's yeah, it's nuts.
- 30:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he's definitely he's definitely been the guy that stood out the most uh in terms of pitching.
- 30:34SPEAKER_06: But uh, you know, we we've had hit or miss on the other guys that are technically your weekend starters, your your Mason Molinas and your Chase Hamptons or Andrew Morris has started a few.
- 30:43SPEAKER_06: But uh tell me a little bit about what y'all have seen from uh these four guys.
- 30:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, uh you know, just rounding it out for Brandon Birdsell.
- 30:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, because we cover college baseball, we look at a lot of stats.
- 30:56SPEAKER_04: And Brandon Birdsell, I can rest assured he is in the upper echelons of starting pitchers.
- 31:02SPEAKER_04: He has a 0.92 whip.
- 31:04SPEAKER_04: And again, this is just this is the last stat I'm gonna drop off.
- 31:08SPEAKER_04: I I swear.
- 31:09SPEAKER_04: Math lesson time.
- 31:10SPEAKER_04: All right, no, no, no, no, no.
- 31:12SPEAKER_04: This is addition, guys.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: We can do that.
- 31:15SPEAKER_06: We're we we we have that level of of math.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 31:19SPEAKER_04: Two plus two equals five, right?
- 31:21unknown: Hell yeah.
- 31:22SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, but anyway, whip that means walks and hits per inning pitched.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: Whip WHIP.
- 31:30SPEAKER_04: So, what that essentially means a 0.92 is meaning every single inning he pitches, he is averaging only one walk or hit per game.
- 31:39SPEAKER_04: And if you can keep it down to just one moment of action essentially per game per inning, that is incredible.
- 31:47SPEAKER_04: Then to have one up below one is stupid good.
- 31:52SPEAKER_04: So he has high strikeouts, low ERA, and a low whip.
- 31:56SPEAKER_04: I mean, very and you know, we'll cover the Texas stats essentially, but really um his his his stats are better than theirs in a lot of respects.
- 32:05SPEAKER_04: So we have our diamond, you know, our golden ace right there.
- 32:10SPEAKER_04: And then as far as the other starters, you got Mason Molina with a 2.70 ERA, 1.2 whip, 27 Ks.
- 32:18SPEAKER_04: Those are all fantastic.
- 32:20SPEAKER_04: As far as ERAs go, it starts getting to the above four ERAs, with Chase Hampton a 4.13, Andrew Morris a 4.84, and that while that might look you know a little uh worrisome, they're striking out a ton of guys.
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: So with Chase Hampton, 27 strikeouts, Andrew Morris, 32 strikeouts on the year.
- 32:40SPEAKER_04: And again, it so it's like it's either feast or famine in a sense, it's like they're striking out pitchers overall.
- 32:46SPEAKER_04: Their strikeout totals as a as a team as starters are relentless, but again, you know, they give up the hit, which uh, you know, knocks in a run.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: So it's you know, it's just like it's hit or miss, but it's it's not the end of the world.
- 33:00SPEAKER_04: It's not like they're not striking out guys, it's just it, it's just bad timing, wrong price at the wrong time.
- 33:06SPEAKER_04: But I'm not really too uh concerned overall.
- 33:09SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, obviously you would want them to be better, but I think starting pitching overall, I mean it it's solid.
- 33:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:17SPEAKER_07: And I look at you know what kind of more completes the story here is yeah, when when it comes to these the getting these guys kind of walking more or like hit by pitch type of situations where putting guys on base, this is where this is where having a really solid, uh, solid both infield and outfield and defensive guys really come into play here, being able to get those double plays, be able to catch guys, uh, catch guys looking.
- 33:40SPEAKER_07: Um, and also too, when it comes to when it's time for these guys who are starting to come out of the game, that we've had a we've had a very good bullpen this year.
- 33:49SPEAKER_07: Uh, we have a lot of guys, you know, it's a it's a bullpen that you know has had in been that's been in pretty uh pretty quick rotation.
- 33:57SPEAKER_07: Like you know, we're working through a lot of guys um across these games here.
- 34:00SPEAKER_07: But these guys, when they come, even if it's for it's just a short amount of time, they either come in and do what's asked of them situationally, or you know, for the inning or two that they're pitching in there, you know, they they lock things down.
- 34:10SPEAKER_07: Um there, you know, with striking out guys or you know, getting the ground outs and stuff to do it.
- 34:15SPEAKER_07: I mean, they're just in it, they are an efficient bunch.
- 34:18SPEAKER_07: And uh, and these are I you know, I imagine these are these are guys that are going to carry over into next year's team too.
- 34:24SPEAKER_07: Some of them probably gonna be in contention for a starting role uh uh next year on the depth chart.
- 34:30SPEAKER_07: And I uh I think that just that really showed that you know, showing where the situation that they're in right now, they could do a lot for us this year, but it really gets me excited for the next year or two to come, these guys.
- 34:44SPEAKER_06: That's awesome.
- 34:44SPEAKER_06: I mean, uh some of those guys in the bullpen I know that have kind of popped out in certain games.
- 34:50SPEAKER_06: People are talking about them a little bit.
- 34:51SPEAKER_06: Uh Brendan Gurden, Trendon Parish, those type of guys.
- 34:54SPEAKER_06: Uh, who's been some of those bullpen uh pitching guy that pitchers that you know have been standing out, have been some of the most impressive.
- 35:03SPEAKER_07: I freaking love watching Trend and Parish.
- 35:05SPEAKER_07: I mean, this kid's throwing like six 96 mile an hour fastballs and stuff.
- 35:08SPEAKER_07: I mean, yeah, you've got this the Tim Talek has very much kind of embraced here, like the new school work through a lot of pitchers uh in a game, like those kind of multiple changes.
- 35:18SPEAKER_07: But I mean, I just think that that's just such a cool thing.
- 35:20SPEAKER_07: Like, yeah, see a guy like come out here as your closer and is just like like throwing absolute heat on the mound there and uh and say that because I mean that's that's that's a guy that that has a lot to his game.
- 35:34SPEAKER_07: I mean, he's not just a closer guy.
- 35:35SPEAKER_07: I mean, you're seeing a guy that I feel like Parrish that could potentially be starting material in uh in the years to come.
- 35:42SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I think he's gonna be playing in the pros sooner than later.
- 35:44SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 35:46SPEAKER_04: Uh Brennan Gurton and Trendon Parish, they both have sub one whips, which is just I mean, again, if you're as far especially in relief, you want to keep that whip walks and hits printing pitch down as close to one as possible, and they're both below one, which is awesome.
- 36:00SPEAKER_04: 18 strikeouts, both of them, their stats are identical.
- 36:03SPEAKER_04: You've got a a good one-two punch and relief there.
- 36:06SPEAKER_04: Uh both have ERAs above four, but as far as relief, um, it's not as concerning because it's a smaller sample size.
- 36:13SPEAKER_04: But uh, I mean, those are solid numbers as far as I'm concerned.
- 36:18unknown: Yeah.
- 36:18SPEAKER_07: Chase Hampton has been a great midweek starter for us.
- 36:21SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, we haven't had we've we have had a decent midweek schedule.
- 36:24SPEAKER_07: Um, it's uh it's not been the most challenging in the world.
- 36:27SPEAKER_07: We know we played some good teams having those uh those two games with Dallas Baptist, um, Dallas Baptist being the number one RPI team in the country right now, and it's really starting to uh really starting to perform up to their full potential on that side of things in terms of the mid-majors.
- 36:41SPEAKER_07: Um, but yeah, like you, I mean, yeah, you see just kind of you look at the uh I'm looking here at D1 site and seeing the the stat lines here across our bullpen.
- 36:50SPEAKER_07: You you see very much kind of these the it kind of tells the story of the very situationally aware way in which Tadlock is using guys like Derek Bridges, who's been very good for us as well, too, out there on the mound in relief.
- 37:01SPEAKER_07: He's had 11 appearances and with that 8.2 innings pitched, uh, but has has allowed no no earned runs to this point.
- 37:09SPEAKER_07: So uh, I mean, he is uh when he gets, I mean that's everything from like, hey, we ask you to get out there for an inning to hey, we just need like one or two pitches out there to take care of this before we bring in the next guy, just that very new school way of handling it.
- 37:22SPEAKER_07: But he's uh taking care of it, uh he's taking care of it pretty well.
- 37:26SPEAKER_07: Um yeah, uh so there's there's a lot to like up and down this list here.
- 37:32SPEAKER_07: Jace Lopez has done good too for uh for tech as well.
- 37:35SPEAKER_07: He's had uh some uh appearances here and there where he's gone in there, but a lot of a lot of good guys that uh they continue to have upside in that area.
- 37:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 37:45SPEAKER_06: And that's one of the most important things when we start coming down to the wire and coming into Big 12 play, like we are, is having a deep bullpen.
- 37:51SPEAKER_06: You need guys to come out there and consistently perform well.
- 37:55SPEAKER_06: Uh, and you need a lot of them.
- 37:57SPEAKER_06: I mean, if you just have two or three guys, you know, that's it, you're gonna tire them out, it's not gonna work very well for you.
- 38:02SPEAKER_07: But I mean, let's be real.
- 38:03SPEAKER_07: That is that was the that was the Achilles heel for tech baseball last year, is why ultimately they uh they they uh they couldn't make the the full enough run into Omaha.
- 38:11SPEAKER_07: Uh and even really you see kind of you saw it kind of towards the end of the regular season during those some of those regional games.
- 38:18SPEAKER_07: It was definitely shaky at times because you just didn't have that bullpen depth.
- 38:21SPEAKER_07: I I will I will seriously die on this heal that is a lot more important to to maintain this consistently and improve in this area throughout the year, and the offense is a lot more room uh for give there in that regard.
- 38:33SPEAKER_07: I mean, historically there have been some some great college baseball teams throughout the years that have been service first serviceable on offense.
- 38:40SPEAKER_07: Uh, the the team that we're about to talk about here in a second, the Texas Longhorns.
- 38:43SPEAKER_07: This is a program that throughout their history have just been uh been like ridiculous on the mound.
- 38:49SPEAKER_07: I mean, you think about names like Roger Clemens that have come through that program, yeah.
- 38:53SPEAKER_07: And uh he's all right.
- 38:56SPEAKER_07: Um, and uh uh but you I mean it lends partly to the park that they play out, Dishfalk Field, Allen Austin, that it kind of it's a place where offense goes to die, it just kind of like swallows uh offensive performances there.
- 39:10SPEAKER_07: But I think you know, this is this is a program I'm seeing like way things are coming together here.
- 39:17SPEAKER_07: There have been other programs that have built success around this and made deep runs in Omaha here.
- 39:22SPEAKER_07: So I think we're seeing good things on really good things on the mound, uh, and our defense that's been our calling card this year, and the offense has only uh continually gotten better to this point.
- 39:33SPEAKER_06: Very nice, very nice.
- 39:34SPEAKER_06: Well, you mentioned it.
- 39:35SPEAKER_06: Let's just get into it.
- 39:36SPEAKER_06: Texas, this is our Big 12 opener.
- 39:38SPEAKER_06: Of course, we're opening with uh what most people are regarding as as one of the best teams in the country right now.
- 39:46SPEAKER_06: Uh, they have had uh some injury uh unluckiness, I should say.
- 39:51SPEAKER_06: Um uh Tanner Witt, who's uh a Sunday starting pitcher for them, he's out for the remainder of the year.
- 39:56SPEAKER_06: But uh, like you said, with Texas, there's uh a huge amount of talent on that team, on that roster.
- 40:02SPEAKER_06: Uh, but they're sitting at an 18-5 record.
- 40:05SPEAKER_06: Uh, they've really only dropped games to good teams, except for the lovely loss to College of Charleston over there uh during their little run in uh in in South Carolina.
- 40:15SPEAKER_06: They did lose the series to South Carolina as well, dropped one to Texas State, who is actually a pretty good team.
- 40:21SPEAKER_06: Uh that was surprising to me.
- 40:22SPEAKER_06: I had no idea.
- 40:23SPEAKER_06: I I thought Texas State was horrible at everything, but actually, no, they're pretty good.
- 40:30SPEAKER_06: They're just horrible at football and basketball.
- 40:32SPEAKER_06: They're okay, they're pretty good at baseball, but uh and also dropped one to UCLA earlier in the year.
- 40:37SPEAKER_06: But uh, this UT team is really good.
- 40:39SPEAKER_06: And and Barrett, I know you got a breakdown here going on, so I'm gonna I'm gonna give the floor to you.
- 40:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, they were pre-ranked number one um in in the nation, and it was well deserved.
- 40:52SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm just you're gonna, as of this recording, they are ranked number two, so they really haven't come down hardly at all.
- 40:59SPEAKER_04: Um, and I'm gonna kind of do their stats and compare them to ours for pitching.
- 41:04SPEAKER_04: Um, like I like I said, Brandon Burcell was has a 1.80 ERA, Mason Molina with a 2.7.
- 41:10SPEAKER_04: So yeah, you think that's good?
- 41:12SPEAKER_04: Well, you look over at their pitching and they have three people with a sub to ERA, which is ridiculous.
- 41:19SPEAKER_04: Tristan Stevens, 1.17, Lucas Gordon, 1.61, Travis Steele, 1.76.
- 41:25SPEAKER_04: Uh, they all have whips at you know 1.11 or 0.95.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: Their strikeouts are not as much as ours, but you know, and as much as strikeouts are to pitchers like home runs are to batters, yeah, we technically have more strikeouts overall, uh, but uh they're keeping the runs down, which you know what that means.
- 41:45SPEAKER_04: It means that when the uh when the opposing batters are getting hits, it's for weak contact.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: So uh it's meaning they are forcing ground balls and pop-ups.
- 41:57SPEAKER_04: So that's why while they're not able to fan guys out, they don't let them score.
- 42:02SPEAKER_04: So I mean, and then the the only the other guy who they've started a lot, Pete Hansen, is a 2.57 ERA, which that's still pretty darn good.
- 42:12SPEAKER_07: He has 33ks on the year, so yeah, he he it's and it's a pretty steep drop-off from him to Tristan Stevens.
- 42:18SPEAKER_07: Tristan Stevens only has 19 strikeouts on the year, so only 19.
- 42:22SPEAKER_06: Only 19, that's it.
- 42:24SPEAKER_06: Scrum, if you ask me.
- 42:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, so I I'm I'm just so glad that we're facing these guys in Lubbock.
- 42:31SPEAKER_04: Uh, thank goodness if we can have some kind of home field advantage.
- 42:35SPEAKER_04: Um, but but don't you know, Barrett, we're we're just their Super Bowl.
- 42:38SPEAKER_04: That's all we are to UT.
- 42:42SPEAKER_06: We're their World Series every time with that.
- 42:46SPEAKER_06: We just we just care, we just care a little bit more about this.
- 42:49SPEAKER_07: It's it doesn't mean anything to UT.
- 42:52SPEAKER_07: Oh god, man.
- 42:53SPEAKER_07: We can all agree that the University of Texas on social media is the absolute that that is one of the most insufferable things that have like come out over the last couple of months, yeah, that I've like ever seen that just like that.
- 43:06SPEAKER_07: This whole like this whole like trend of like people just trying to like ratio up on uh one another of like oh we're we're just their super bowl.
- 43:13SPEAKER_07: It's like how does this make you look good?
- 43:17SPEAKER_07: Like what what what are you trying to get at here?
- 43:20SPEAKER_07: What are you accomplishing with this?
- 43:22SPEAKER_04: Like you it things aren't adding up.
- 43:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know, yeah, but yeah, they will come to Lubbock and let's just hope that they have won too many HMEs.
- 43:33SPEAKER_06: Well, we've we've already seen with the University of Texas that uh their their players like to drink a little bit.
- 43:38SPEAKER_06: If you that was kind of a dub.
- 43:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, give them a chilton and uh hopefully.
- 43:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah, somebody give give the uh give the catcher a Chilton over there in the bullpen and he'll take a sip of it.
- 43:53SPEAKER_06: But uh Yeah, I mean Texas Texas is the brand.
- 43:57SPEAKER_06: They're the they're the team to beat right now in the Big.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: And uh even though Texas Tech does have a better overall record, uh, you know, Texas beat some great teams, they beat Alabama, they swept them really, uh, beat Tennessee, LSU.
- 44:09SPEAKER_06: These are all SEC teams that you know the SE the SEC, if you know, people talk about how they're so good in basketball, so good football, foot, whatever.
- 44:17SPEAKER_06: They're the SEC is the best baseball conference.
- 44:19SPEAKER_06: They are, they have been.
- 44:20SPEAKER_07: They they definitely I will interject real quick and say that the SEC has shown a bit more weakness, especially in the SEC West this year.
- 44:27SPEAKER_07: There's just there the across college baseball in general.
- 44:30SPEAKER_07: This little tidbit here is that there's not as commanding starting pitching.
- 44:35SPEAKER_07: Uh, I'd say maybe into like bullpen depth across college baseball this year as there have been last year.
- 44:40SPEAKER_07: This is a very offensive, I feel like kind of driven college baseball season across the sport this year.
- 44:44SPEAKER_07: Uh, and certainly there have just been a lot more upsets, which has kind of led to just a lot of the fluctuation that you've seen within the top 25 to this point, and then also some of the notable upsets you've seen between uh weekend series, um, and then even midweek games as well.
- 44:58SPEAKER_07: So uh that the ACC this year is actually looking potentially like the best conference in all of baseball.
- 45:05SPEAKER_07: They they are very strong top to bottom for sure.
- 45:09SPEAKER_06: Okay, I mean that was something that I'm just now learning because I always just assume that the SEC is the best at baseball because there usually are, but uh that's actually good to hear.
- 45:18SPEAKER_06: That's something that we can you know kind of brush off on the SEC lovers.
- 45:21SPEAKER_09: Oh, I mean, shoot, every other team you see in the top 25 is from the ACC.
- 45:26SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 45:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they're killing it.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, the SEC at first they had a bunch of teams in there, but other teams, other conferences are starting to have a show, including Texas State, who is now ranked number 20.
- 45:41SPEAKER_04: The horns down herned around the world.
- 45:43SPEAKER_04: That's what they did.
- 45:44SPEAKER_04: The most disrespectful walk-off horns down when they beat him.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: And it was only in college baseball.
- 45:50SPEAKER_04: In college baseball, you see those disrespectful horns downs, and you see bat flips in which a guy throws up the bat and it seemingly never comes down.
- 45:57SPEAKER_07: I mean, yeah, or or like the whole bullpen from tech like straddles the uh balls.
- 46:02SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:04SPEAKER_07: It's just that's it's a wonderful tradition that they do over here.
- 46:08SPEAKER_07: The beer showers at Ole Miss are that is it's one of the best few things top that.
- 46:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 46:15SPEAKER_06: Definitely some cool traditions in college baseball that you you get in certain aspects of MLB, but just college baseball has that camaraderie that you really uh just love to see.
- 46:25SPEAKER_06: And that's just college sports in general.
- 46:26SPEAKER_06: I mean, the fandom, the the crowds, everything you love about it, uh, for sure.
- 46:31SPEAKER_06: But um, so keys to victory here.
- 46:34SPEAKER_06: If we were to take this series against Texas, obviously it would be a massive couple wins for tech here.
- 46:40SPEAKER_06: But what do you guys think needs to happen for us to potentially pull out a couple wins here?
- 46:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you need a Brandon Burcell.
- 46:48SPEAKER_04: We need to win that game at the very least.
- 46:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, this guy, he has to come, and if all else fails, he has to be stout because uh just briefly going over the playmakers for Texas, uh, it's not gonna be easy.
- 47:02SPEAKER_04: They have four people with an OPS above a thousand, which again, if the average OPS is 750, these four people have it above a thousand, two of which have better OPSs than Jace Young.
- 47:16SPEAKER_04: Uh Murphy Stelley, 443 batting average, 1240 OPS, five homers on the air, and then the shining star, the most difficult out to get out in Texas, Ivan Melendez, aka the Hispanic Titanic.
- 47:32SPEAKER_06: It's a great nickname.
- 47:33SPEAKER_06: It is fantastic nickname.
- 47:35SPEAKER_06: I hate it that he has such a good nickname, but yeah, this is a guy that's always talked about.
- 47:40SPEAKER_06: I mean, every you'll see a highlight of him every time Texas plays a baseball game.
- 47:44SPEAKER_07: It's kind of like how Lucan Baker was a few years ago for TCU, just like this massive, like giant of a human being.
- 47:51SPEAKER_09: That yeah, it's like yeah, I thought I forgot about that guy, man.
- 47:55SPEAKER_09: Now that giant is forefront in my head, haunting me again.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:01SPEAKER_04: I mean, Ivan Melendez 353 batting average, 1.333 OPS, which is stupid high, and 10 homers on the year, which is an anomaly.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: I mean, the guy mashes them out of the park.
- 48:13SPEAKER_04: Uh, you got Eric Kennedy, who is a 358 batting average, 1.013 OPS, three bombs on the year, and then Trey Faultine, 333 batting average, 1.069 OPS, and six bombs on the year.
- 48:26SPEAKER_04: So those are just four monster guys right there who are getting on base.
- 48:31SPEAKER_04: They're hitting for power as well as average.
- 48:34SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, keys to victory, we gotta win the brand and first cell game because if we don't, then I don't know.
- 48:42SPEAKER_04: It's just we're gonna have to have a prayer and just outscore on the gains for Brandon for Cells not pitching.
- 48:49SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I would say there's kind of like four four points.
- 48:51SPEAKER_07: Uh I would go across with the keys to victory here, uh, to either into anywhere from you know to get the best result possible here, which is either uh yeah, get get the series win uh all the way to sweeping it.
- 49:03SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, God willing that we can we could sweep this.
- 49:07SPEAKER_07: But you know, if either of those two things are to happen, we need uh yeah, we need we need uh our starters, all three of them to go deep into all three games.
- 49:16SPEAKER_07: Uh we need them to have a uh have a diverse arsenal of pitches that they're gonna use there, uh all to get these guys out or to keep guys as off base as possible here from UT.
- 49:26SPEAKER_07: Uh and then we need to get on base whenever possible, and then also in key situations be able to push across runs.
- 49:32SPEAKER_07: So it really comes down to those four things there in terms of looking at how these two teams line up.
- 49:37SPEAKER_07: Um, yeah, so that's where it'd have to be.
- 49:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, if the starters show up, if they have multiple pitches working for them, if they don't, it's not just fastballs, they have their off-speed pitches, like their sliders and their curveballs going.
- 49:50SPEAKER_04: They go, Man, at least four innings.
- 49:53SPEAKER_04: Man, it would be so cool if they could all go to at least six, save our bullpen arms so that way they can come in, you know, the one-two punch, like we talked about with Brandon Gurton and Drenton Parrish, just have them come in and they can they can make it happen.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: Our offense is uh about as good as anybody's, and that you have that in uh college baseball.
- 50:14SPEAKER_04: It's just you have these guys with like 500 batting averages, and they're hitting for a much.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: There's not as much parity when it comes to offenses, but there is with pitching.
- 50:23SPEAKER_04: You have you know, rosters who have good pitching, and you have ones that are really bad.
- 50:28SPEAKER_04: So that more often than not is the difference maker, even though it's not as flashy as who can hit more home runs over the fence.
- 50:38SPEAKER_07: Yeah, we just uh we just did a preview for uh for one of the uh for I guess yeah, it was the AL Central the other day, uh talking about the guy who I believe is gonna yeah for major league baseball, uh, and then came across the Detroit Tigers.
- 50:51SPEAKER_07: You're talking about first base and Spencer Torkelson, who was the number one overall pick in the 2020 draft, who played for Arizona State, he broke Barry.
- 51:00SPEAKER_07: I think he either tied or broke Barry Bond's home run record from like there at from when Bonds played at Arizona State.
- 51:08SPEAKER_07: It was like the Pac-12 freshman of the year with like by and large with the numbers that he put up and like in the pandemic short season in 2020, it was only he only lasted like three weeks, and he had like over 30 home runs already, which was just like insane.
- 51:22SPEAKER_10: So it's ridiculous.
- 51:24SPEAKER_07: There's just across college baseball, you just you you find these guys, and it's they're so fun to watch and to follow throughout the year.
- 51:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, the metal bats for the band.
- 51:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and and I mean, you need that for baseball, you know.
- 51:37SPEAKER_06: For for this sport that you know, you guys are some are some baseball truthers, you guys know what the hell you're talking about.
- 51:43SPEAKER_06: But for us casual fans, you know, you like to see the ball go over the fence.
- 51:48SPEAKER_06: You'd love to see it, you know, and so and make it go fast over plate.
- 51:52SPEAKER_07: And that's just really and that's just really hard to do if we're gonna kick that back here.
- 51:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 51:58SPEAKER_06: But uh, you know, it it is good for the sport because it gets more people involved and invested into it just just to see these stars, these just specimens of humans go out there and hit that ball over the fence.
- 52:10SPEAKER_06: But um, that's that's super interesting um about Texas and about uh just these insane athletes that they have in their program right now.
- 52:20SPEAKER_06: Obviously, would love to get a couple dubs out of this and and just have something else we can talk mess to the Longhorns about.
- 52:27SPEAKER_06: Uh, but yes, being here at Dan Law, I think that just gives us an extra little advantage, um, especially with our great crowd that always shows up for the games.
- 52:36SPEAKER_06: I know March Madden is going on at the same time, so maybe a little lighter of a crowd than what we really wanted, but um, you know, anything else that you guys had on this UT series?
- 52:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, it's just it's gonna be our you know our second test.
- 52:50SPEAKER_04: Our first one was against the the Phoenix Champs, uh, Mississippi State.
- 52:54SPEAKER_04: This is our second huge test before our final huge test against Oklahoma State, which if for those of y'all who aren't aware, Oklahoma State is a very, very good um Big 12 college baseball team.
- 53:06SPEAKER_04: I think Travis and I both have them picked to go to Omaha because watch out.
- 53:10SPEAKER_04: Um, so but we'll but we'll cross that bridge you know later into April, May-ish.
- 53:15SPEAKER_04: But it's just I'm so glad they're it we're in the we're in the LBK.
- 53:20SPEAKER_04: They are very, very tough, but I mean, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that we're gonna, you know, they're gonna drink one too many Chilters and we're gonna, you know, we're gonna win the series two to one.
- 53:35SPEAKER_06: Love that, man.
- 53:36SPEAKER_06: Travis, what do you got?
- 53:37SPEAKER_06: What do you think on a on a prediction?
- 53:39SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 53:40SPEAKER_07: So I am uh yeah, I'm I'm gonna go with a two to one series win on this one.
- 53:46SPEAKER_07: I uh, you know, in a uh I'm uh yes, I think it's gonna be, yeah, we're gonna drop the first game, but I believe we're gonna come back strong in the second game, and we're gonna have a uh we're going to have a walk-off come from behind, bases loaded, uh win with a uh with a homer by Easter Morel, too.
- 54:08SPEAKER_07: There you go.
- 54:11SPEAKER_06: Easter Morrell just now getting back in the lineup pretty recently.
- 54:14SPEAKER_07: So yeah, that would be that would be awesome to see.
- 54:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah, that's that's kind of like my fantasy world of just like the entertaining way to look at.
- 54:21SPEAKER_07: I think it it'll probably be two to one a little bit, it maybe not as exciting as that.
- 54:25SPEAKER_07: But I'm gonna say yes, upset alert for for uh for the horns this weekend coming into Lubbock, it'll be a two to one series victory, one way or another.
- 54:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, all righty.
- 54:34SPEAKER_06: Love to hear that.
- 54:34SPEAKER_06: I trust you guys' judgment more than anybody in the world on this kind of stuff.
- 54:38SPEAKER_06: So uh we'll go with you.
- 54:39SPEAKER_06: Two-one Texas Tech is the official, no doubt or talk and tech prediction for this weekend.
- 54:45SPEAKER_06: Uh, hopefully that comes to fruition.
- 54:48SPEAKER_06: If not, a sweep would be nice too, you know.
- 54:50SPEAKER_09: How sweet would it be, boys, to sweep them in basketball and then baseball in the same year and both times being rank matchups.
- 54:59SPEAKER_09: I just that would be a chef's kiss.
- 55:02SPEAKER_09: I want a sweep, baby.
- 55:04SPEAKER_09: Bring it on.
- 55:05SPEAKER_09: As Travis said, they aren't upset alerts.
- 55:07SPEAKER_09: I say the upset sirens are blaring and loving.
- 55:10SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, man.
- 55:11SPEAKER_04: Get those broomsticks ready.
- 55:14SPEAKER_06: And then hopefully we see Joey McGuire pull one out this fall against them, too.
- 55:18SPEAKER_06: Um, but before we get here towards the ender, I did want to touch on a couple more Big 12 teams.
- 55:24SPEAKER_06: We're not going to talk about the entire conference, but these other two teams that are showing to be contenders uh in Oklahoma State and TCU, just wanted to touch on them real quick.
- 55:33SPEAKER_06: Oklahoma State sitting at a 14-6 record, wins over Vandy uh at Arizona State.
- 55:39SPEAKER_06: They swept them.
- 55:40SPEAKER_06: Uh, a 2-1 series win against BYU.
- 55:42SPEAKER_06: They beat Dallas Baptists as well, uh, swept Seton Hall.
- 55:46SPEAKER_06: Um, how good is this Oklahoma State team, Deal?
- 55:50SPEAKER_07: They're a pretty good team.
- 55:51SPEAKER_07: They've just been kind of Jekyll and hide at points uh so far this year, but I feel like that lull kind of like they were in around the Gonzaga series, uh, and the start of the BYU series.
- 56:02SPEAKER_07: They've uh they've gotten out of that now.
- 56:04SPEAKER_07: Um and there's uh and there's there's things certainly to like about them.
- 56:10SPEAKER_07: I mean, there's Jake who can rake Jake Thompson there on their team with a 410 batting average.
- 56:15SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, Nolan McLean has uh has four home runs for them.
- 56:19SPEAKER_07: Rock Riggio, Jake Thompson, both three home runs as well.
- 56:22SPEAKER_07: Ken Trinkle, three home runs.
- 56:24SPEAKER_07: Uh, yeah, Zach Zach Earhart is seven stolen bases for him on the year.
- 56:28SPEAKER_07: Um, pitching wise, uh, yeah, Justin Campbell, I believe, is their ace for him there.
- 56:33SPEAKER_07: Yeah, 49 strikeouts on the year.
- 56:35SPEAKER_07: Goodness gracious.
- 56:36SPEAKER_07: That is ridiculous.
- 56:38SPEAKER_07: Pretty good.
- 56:39SPEAKER_07: Um, yeah, there's yeah, it just you look at these stats here across all these guys here, both there's a ton of guys that can hit, and there's a ton of guys that can pitch well and prevent earned runs, or even you know, if they do uh they do get guys on base that they're good situationally wise at uh at getting the strikeouts.
- 56:58SPEAKER_07: It's just been hard to see like games in which all those have come together for him so far this year.
- 57:02SPEAKER_07: Uh, but you know, Josh Holliday, their head coach, was hired at the same time as Tim Tadlock was.
- 57:07SPEAKER_07: They've both been in at their uh both been their schools, both are coaching at their alma maters, uh, part of uh Josh Holiday, part of the uh the legendary Holiday family in Oklahoma State baseball.
- 57:19SPEAKER_07: And he uh, I believe his father was the head coach at uh at Oklahoma State for a number of years, um, if I'm not mistaken.
- 57:26SPEAKER_07: Um, but you know, like the the Cowboys have only had one uh college world series appearance in that time, but they've pretty much been in regionals or super regionals every single year.
- 57:39SPEAKER_07: They have just kind of this thing where it seems like they had they co they go in a little bit of a lull during uh non-conference play, but they're always playing good teams, much like tech.
- 57:47SPEAKER_07: Um, and they once conference play comes around, they're always going to be a dangerous team in terms of uh of being right there.
- 57:54SPEAKER_07: Um, and I think you know this is a this is the team that's pulling their stuff together at the right time right now where they can uh where they can be a contender in the conference.
- 58:02SPEAKER_07: I I see this as I um as we even before we get to TCU here, I think that uh I still believe even with the uh with losing Tanner Witt for UT, the the pecking order right now is tech, UT, and then uh and uh I guess yeah, no, UT, Oklahoma State, excuse me.
- 58:22SPEAKER_07: Uh tech and then TCU, but all those teams are super close to each other, and it's gonna come down to the uh to the final week of the season there, uh final week or two, just in terms of really getting the the the full records fleshed out and like who sits in sits and where like we're gonna have just like a matter of like a game or two separating some of these teams and their standings in there.
- 58:44SPEAKER_07: Um but I think uh yeah, we have we have all these break teams have possibilities for uh for either either hosting or being um or being kind of higher up there as like a two seed in someone else's regional and being and I think uh tech and TCU being the type of teams, you know, hey, even if they're not hosting by the end of the year, if they're going to somebody else's regional as a two or a three seed, uh they just even if they've struggled at points during the regular season, they have the type of stuff together that's like they can really get hot.
- 59:11SPEAKER_07: Kind of like kind of like that 2014 team was when the the first CWS team when they had to go on the road to Miami down the Coral Gables, but they went in the regional and they they made some noise there.
- 59:20SPEAKER_07: I've like the these uh tech and TCU specifically are built as those kind of kind of teams that you whoever is hosting, and if neither of them are hosting and they have to go on the road, uh you're not gonna want to see tech.
- 59:32SPEAKER_07: And I think Oklahoma State pretty much has the possibility of hosting, if not national seed, the where they're the way they're playing now.
- 59:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's gonna be a super interesting series because that is right down there at the end of the season.
- 59:43SPEAKER_06: So uh yeah, that's gonna be big time.
- 59:45SPEAKER_06: Uh two completely different teams at this point when we do play them, though.
- 59:50SPEAKER_06: You know, this Texas Tech team is not gonna be the same as when we do play Oklahoma State.
- 59:54SPEAKER_06: Same goes with the Cowboys as well.
- 59:56SPEAKER_06: Um, but yeah, that's that's really interesting.
- 59:58SPEAKER_06: I know they've been highly regarded as probably one of the top three uh teams in the Big 12, but TCU is also another just consistently good program uh through the last few years.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_06: Obviously, they lost their coach this past offseason.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_06: He went off to AM.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_06: I think his name is Schlossnagel.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_06: I don't even know.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, Jim Jim Schlossnagel.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_06: Okay, I had it right.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_06: Weird last day.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_06: The slosh.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah, weird, weird last day.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_06: But he's over uh in college station now, TCU new head coach.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_06: Uh, but they're still doing pretty well.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_06: 15 and 5 record so far.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_06: Uh they played one Big 12 series.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_06: Uh, them and Baylor have already played the only Big 12 series as of right now to have been played.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_06: Uh, they went into Waco and won 2-1 in that series.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_06: Um, they have wins over San Diego State.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_06: Uh they beat U of H.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_06: They swept Nebraska, swept uh swept the troops.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_06: Very rude for them to uh to sweep Army.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_06: Um I know, I guess DCU just hates the troops, whatever.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_06: Um, but uh they've also lost to uh Cal.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_06: They lost to Kentucky twice, Louisville and Baylor.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_06: So um, you know, uh a good record 15 and five, and they're still highly regarded as one of the top four teams in the Big 12.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_06: And it's kind of uh what are y'all's thoughts kind of on the Hornfrogs this season?
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_07: I haven't gotten to see TCU uh play as much.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_07: I've just kind of I've gotten the SPM plus subscription, so I can follow college baseball pretty pretty comprehensively, but uh I I've only really just kind of grazed across them a couple of times.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_07: It seems like their their hitting has been a bit stronger than their than their pitching, and they've kind of had to have uh just some some pitching kind of come in from behind to uh to get yeah, like they're the the the best pitch that the the best ERA I think that they have out there, their pitching staff right now is like a 3-4-5.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_07: So uh it's uh they're starting pitching that is so that's not excellent.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_07: Um yeah, their top pitcher, Riley Cornelio, only has uh 30 strikeouts in the air, yeah, only 30, but I mean uh there, I mean, yeah, it's kind of more this is a team I feel like they gets they get a little bit deeper into their bullpen to be able to get uh get done what they need to get done.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_07: Um, but yeah, you've kind of got a little bit of a little bit of a change in philosophy, it seems, here uh from Jim Schloss Snagel to Kirk Sarloos now, their new head coach.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_07: Uh Kirk Sarloos who played a number of years in Major League Baseball, notably with the A's, um, kind of a journeyman player.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_07: Um, and uh but Sarloz was a longtime assistant under uh under uh uh Jim Schloss Nagel.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_07: There are a lot of good coaches that were assistants under Schloss Snagel during that time at TCU.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_07: Tony Vitello, the Tennessee head coach, was an assistant under him for a number of years.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_07: Randy Maisie, the West Virginia head coach, was also an assistant under him too.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_07: Uh so that the Schlossengel tree definitely has his impact across college baseball.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_07: And he uh, you know, Schloss did a lot of great stuff for them.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_07: Uh obviously saw a new opportunity with AM, but it feels like Sarloose is very much he has shown that he's the right man for the job here.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_07: Uh I've really heard no qualms from uh from the TCU faithful in terms of this guy being here or like being the wrong man for the job or anything.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_07: Uh it seems like players enjoy him.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_07: Seems like you know, he's yeah, yeah, you have his challenges here just with starting a new era, but he's come in, he knows the territory, and uh this this has been a good team has uh played some good competition to start here.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_07: They're playing, you know, 175% of your games heading into uh in the Big 12 play.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_07: I mean, that's pretty solid.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_04: TCU, um uh their offense, it's it's really spread out.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_04: You have several guys batting above 300.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_04: You got this guy named Elijah Nunes.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_04: This guy has stolen 14 bases this season.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, if you do the math, playing 20 games, it's almost one stolen back per game.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_04: So they are embracing small ball.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_04: This don't let this guy get on base because he's stealing, it's gonna be basically be an automatic stolen base.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_04: And so you know that's why they're able to drive him in when they can.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_04: It's so it's oh yeah, I again it's just it offenses like this.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_04: You see them all around, but it's their pitching that's gonna be their downfall down the stretch if their starters can't uh lock it in.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_06: Well, that's good to hear, uh, especially with how Texas conference is uh, you know, dealing with all sorts of great teams like we do every single year.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_06: Um, but that's really interesting.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_06: I think uh, you know, the Big 12 as a whole is uh a really good conference.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_06: Uh, we may not be the best conference, but our four can hang with you know the top four pretty much anywhere.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_06: So um Texas Tech is in for a ride this Big 12 season, and it all starts with the University of Texas this weekend.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_06: Um, but you know, we we had a we we uh merged on a pod earlier this season with you guys on y'all's feed, uh, and we just kind of did some preseason expectations.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_06: What are we expecting out of this team?
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_06: We have a lot of unknowns, all that kind of stuff.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_06: For y'all, have has that changed any y'all's expectations from that point to now?
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_04: For Texas Tech specifically, yeah, for Texas Tech specifically.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, I think we're doing about as good as we can uh once we start getting down the stretch.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_04: You know, we have the Oklahoma State and the Texas matchup.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_04: Other than that, the other ones, you know, and then obviously TCU, but then other than that, we got some other easy games down the stretch, which is good.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_04: We need to pad those up.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_04: But I mean, I think I think I picked them to make Omaha this year, and I mean, I don't see why they why they wouldn't.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_04: They're on the right trajectory, so I'm still I'm still solid.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah, my perspective is a little bit more nuanced here.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_07: So I uh I I said and I believe I said the first time around that uh I had this team making supers, but just not quite getting into Omaha again.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_07: Uh so I see this team, you know, they're going to once it comes around to regionals, they're gonna I I think they'll they'll be hosting.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_07: I don't believe they quite make a things all things go according to plan, kind of and how I see it projecting.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_07: Looking at the rest of the schedule, and I think you know what.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_07: Potential is.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_07: I see them hosting.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_07: I don't quite see them making into one uh into a national seed, which is one of those top eight overall seeds in terms of hosting.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_07: There, uh, I think you know they may fall just short of that and be a really high two seed that goes on to uh that goes into someone else's regional.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_07: Um, if that doesn't work out, or even you know things struggle even more, drops into a three seed.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_07: But I feel like there's enough there, there's parts of this team that like I just look at like, hey, they have to go into someone else's regional, like I said, along with TCU.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_07: Uh, you won't want to face our Red Raiders because I think they have enough pieces that are dangerous and they're developing, even if they're gonna be young and inconsistent at this time of year, uh, that uh they know we're going to give trouble here in this conference to our foes.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_07: Um, but you know, things do go well in terms of us hosting, you know, we may not get the national seed, but I just have this gut feeling, you know, we're gonna get paired up against some of the other side of the bracket with a national seed that's gonna drop their uh that's gonna drop their uh their regional uh at home.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_07: Uh it's still like one of the two or three seeds that's in that.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_07: And so then that two or three seed, whoever wins that regional is gonna come to Lubbock for supers.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_07: Uh, however, I see just the way the craziness of this year is, yeah, we're looking at some two or three seed in somebody else's national uh seed that they're they're gonna have to come on the road to Lubbock for for supers.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_07: However, we're gonna drop that one, and it's just it's just the way it's gonna be this year.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_07: I did I just uh I don't think the Big 12 is quite showing the strength uh across the board, including with our Red Raiders, there to have as many teams uh you know in uh vying deep into the tournaments this year as uh as we've had in years past.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_07: But I mean, certainly another super regional appearance will be a very uh very solid year for our red raiders, and uh, but I certainly think there's there's a lot of upside what could develop to come.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_06: Uh boo you know you know you know, Travis, I liked I liked Barrett's prediction a little bit more, but but I absolutely respect it.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_06: I absolutely respect it.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, super regionals are great.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_06: Let's not act like this that wouldn't be a successful season or anything like that.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_06: We we obviously we're spoiled as Texas Tech baseball fans.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_06: We expect to make you know deep runs and go to Omaha every year, and that's just it's a blessing.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_06: It's great to have Tim Tadlock and all these great things.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_09: So damn hard to do.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no doubt.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_06: I mean, yeah, and we're getting it in basketball too.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_06: I mean, we're in the Sweet 16 right now, we could potentially go further.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_06: This is it's a great time to be a Texas Tech fan.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_06: Um, and and you know, baseball season is is just another good sport to watch uh this year for for your Red Raiders.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_06: So um now that we're kind of ending off there, I know you guys are also MLB guys.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_06: And if I'm not mistaken, one of you is Rangers and one of you is Astros.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_06: Yes, and you know, you you make up the fandom of Texas.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_06: And so from y'all's perspective, just kind of a quick hitter before we get to song of the week.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_06: What are y'all kind of expecting?
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_06: I know the Rangers have spent uh a ton of money to improve the Rocks of the year.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the Rangers uh should be improved.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_06: We'll see if that actually happens.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_06: Uh and the Astros losing uh one of their heart and soul in uh Carlos Correa.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_06: I'm I'm sorry uh for your loss there, Barrett.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_06: But uh, as as one of the biggest Carlos Correa haters out there, um how do you guys expect it to go down for the Rangers and the Astros this year?
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, the Rangers spent over half a billion dollars on a whopping three people, which is uh yeah, it's insane.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_04: And yeah, you get one of the best second baseman and one of the best short stops, and you have your big three Adolis Garcia, Marcus Simeon, Corey Seeger.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_04: Uh, but again, you can't just have a Mike Trout on your team and expect to go all the way.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_04: Um, the one saving grace for the Rangers is for Major League Baseball, just to put it very, very briefly, there was a lockout.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_04: It lasted 99 days.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_04: There was really contentious.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_04: Uh, we learned that the meaning of the word deadline is useless if you don't know the line, because they made like four different deadlines.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_04: But after 99 very annoying days, there will be a full season starting on April 7th.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_04: So that's the new opening day.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_04: It was originally a week beforehand.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_04: But now instead of 10 playoff teams, there are 12 playoff teams from this point forward.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_04: A full extra two teams, which it does mean they just have that much more of a chance to squeeze in for the wild card, and their offense got better overnight because you have a good shortstop, you have a good second baseman, and they're some of the best in the league, and then you have a rookie and a Dallas Garcia, who is just an absolute monster.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_04: I seen him, I saw him last year hit a homer, and that guy is just a freak of nature.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_04: Um but uh there's a chance.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_04: I'm not I'm not gonna say that there's no chance for me personally for them to squeeze in the wild card.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_04: It'll be a little tricky.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_04: But uh, and as far as the Astros, they're still the best team in the AL West.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_04: I fully expect them to make it deep into the playoffs.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_04: Although with Korea gone, uh they might not make it to the World Series.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_04: That guy is the leader of the team, he brought the championship mentality, so but I want to make us make a sixth straight ALCS, which would be incredible, uh, but I don't know.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_04: So but go to Globe by Field, guys.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_04: Go to Glow Buy Field, you know, make the trip down from Lubbock.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_04: It's a brand new park, 72 degrees inside.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_04: You got plenty of porn scoring opportunities, so make the do it.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_04: Like Trav and I have both been there, it's totally worth it.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I'd say for my Rangers, I uh I'm picking out the whole 162 game season, I'm picking total wins at the end of the year will probably be about 75 to 80.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_07: Uh, that will either just get them sneaking in one of the final wildcard position, uh, or unfortunately just missing it.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_07: Uh, I think you know there's they're gonna see some great offense out of the year.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_07: Um, but I also believe that uh you know we we're gonna be improved on pitching, uh, but I think there's still more pieces uh to come there.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_07: And I think it's still there, yeah, there's just it's a work in progress.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_07: I really feel like we will see things open up more and more uh in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_07: Uh this is a great first step there.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_07: Um, it's good to see this uh this team interested in spending money and getting better and showing like kind of beginning to show a vision and a path for the future.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_07: Uh, but it's it is a work in progress, and uh, I think we we still just fall just short of yeah.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_04: Uh last year the Rangers finished with a record of 60 and 102.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_04: So this year, if they can do 75 or 80 wins, it is it is automatically better than last year, but it's uh it's it's still gonna be great.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_04: Um uh because of the CBA negotiations, the entire league will now have a universal designated hitter.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_04: So that means for the first time in baseball's history, half the of baseball will not be obligated to have pitchers batting.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_04: And you talk about making baseball more exciting, pitchers aren't gonna bat, they're not gonna go up there and look silly, guys.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_07: So have like a 112 batting average exactly.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_04: So more teams in the playoffs, which means your team, whether it's Astros, Rangers, or whoever, they just have that much more of a chance.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_04: The elders wanted 14, but the players said no, we can't have half the teams going to the playoffs every year, which I agree with them.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_04: But yeah, and and then universal DH.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, what more can you want?
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be awesome this year.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_06: I think y'all glossed over what is probably the biggest change out of this CBA, and that they made the bases bigger.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_06: I mean wild.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_04: It it is safer with the bases bigger, and that change will actually take place in the year 2023.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_04: But it yeah, yes, but it was a rule change, and it's just safer for you know, it just means uh, you know, because it's if it's smaller, it's it's less a ground, it's less area, for instance, and but you're it means that base runners are inevitably going to reach the base uh uh sooner and quicker, and they're going to beat the tag because you had the bang bay plays.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_04: Well, now it's in favor of the base runner.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_06: Gotcha.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I just remember during the whole lockout stuff when everybody was pissed off.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_06: They were like, Oh wow, they agreed to make the bases bigger.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_06: Fantastic.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_06: Uh, but yeah, it's it's it's good to have baseball back.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_06: You obviously don't want to miss it.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_06: I mean, it was uh it would have been a shame if the season was cut shorter or uh, you know, if if you just didn't have it all together.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_06: Obviously, I'm glad that those CBA negotiations came and we're gonna have a full season of baseball this year.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_06: So whether you like college, whether you like MLB, you can keep up with all your baseball knowledge at the No Doubt or podcast over here with you two guys.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_06: So uh obviously, for all lovers of baseball, go listen to that.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_06: It's fantastic.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_06: You'll learn a lot if you haven't already known from listening here.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_06: Uh, you'll learn a lot from these two guys.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_06: But um, we me and Tristan did a podcast earlier in this week.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_06: We were talking about March Madness, everything, and we already gave our songs of the week.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_06: And that's what we do here on the Talk and Tech podcast.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_06: We do songs of the week.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_06: And so I asked you two gentlemen if you could give some more songs of the week for the people to listen to in their downtime when they're not watching tech sports this weekend, which I don't know where they're gonna find time to do that, but they're gonna find some time to do that.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_06: So uh we'll start with Travis here.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_06: Go to Barrett.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_06: Song of the week.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_06: What do you got?
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_07: Yes, sir.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_07: I've got Big Casino by Jimmy Eat World.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_07: It is the opening track off their 2007 album, Chase This Light.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_07: There's a banger of a song, it's an underdog story.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_07: It is uh it is fit for a Texas Tech fan.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_07: It's got it's got kind of a bit of a Bruce Springsteen vibe to it, um, in the Jimmy Eat World kind of way.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_07: If you're in the the all rock and pop punk moods, the the legends in Jimmy Eat World can't go wrong with them.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_06: You are speaking Tristan's language here with that Jimmy Eat world.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's anytime I go off the country beat, it's that looks in that direction.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_09: So uh that's an A plus pick from me from me right there.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_06: No doubt.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_06: Barrett, what you got for us?
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna choose a song from one of my favorite bands in the world, and uh Travis knows what band I'm talking about.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_04: I'm of course talking about a band called U2.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_04: And when people think of U2, they think of Beautiful Day, they think of Vertigo.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm gonna go back to the album that put him on the map on March 9th, 1987.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_04: This album came out, and it won a couple of Grammys, actually.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_04: It put U2 on the map.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_04: And for all you raiders out there, picture yourself, you're driving down Highway 84, you're you're you're going in the Lubbock, the sun is coming up over the horizon, and what song do you have listening as you're going down the road and there's flat elevation all the way around and the windmills up in the air?
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_04: You're listening to Where the Streets Have No Name with a crescendo guitar lick, and it's just epic delay, big band style.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_04: Just it's the tough, it's the first track on the Joshua Tree album.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_04: Give it a listen.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_04: It is epic.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_02: I wanna reach out and touch the flame.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_10: Where the seats are lame.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_07: I I mean, yeah, not a bad choice at all.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_07: But I personally would have gone with the sort of homecoming uh off of uh the unforgettable fire.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_07: I feel like that's that's just a great like also driving across the desert plains of West Texas.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_07: That would uh that'd be great.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_07: I feel like especially the summer, like just kind of like the shimmering, kind of almost like heat off the ground.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_07: Like that's a very good song to go with that.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I sort of there's sort of a lot of you two's discography goes very well, I feel like, with the uh the discography out there, the working class life of uh of the region and everything.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_07: So yeah, not a bad choice at all, my friend.
- 1:18:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, sort of homecoming is a more of a deeper cut, uh, but you uh you'll like them both.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_04: They're just epic delay guitar, you've really ambient sounds.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_04: So just trust us, guys.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_04: Don't knock until you fried it.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_06: Awesome.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_06: Fantastic choices, fellas.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_06: Uh, we're we're not, I don't I don't know about you, Tristan, but I'm not familiar with a lot of YouTube stuff, so I will definitely give those a listen.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_06: But to I mean, to what you're saying, Barrett, with with that type of music, driving out in West Texas, you have a lot of open space, you have a lot of open area, you know, you're doing nothing but listen to music or great podcasts like the no doubt or pod or like talking tech out there.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_06: But when you have music on, and Tristan, you can attest to this.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_06: When we were driving in 2020 uh together to go, we were driving from Dallas to Lubbock, and uh we put on a song, and I'm not sure if y'all have been country music guys, but Open Road by uh by Drew Kennedy.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_06: Tristan suggested that one earlier.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_06: Uh, I mean, when we put that on, it was like euphoria, it was like you're just exactly in the right place at the right time, listening to the right music.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_06: And so I'm I'm sure that's what you were going with with that U2 selection.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_04: When you come, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_04: When it comes to country music, Ryan Bingham, uh yeah, listen to that guy.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and that's like heaven definitely matches West Texas.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_07: Yes, are you all 90s countrymen by any stretch?
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_09: Oh, I mean, I we definitely know our basics when it comes to that, you know, the greats.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'd probably say I'm more 2000s.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, sometimes I'll dig deep and I'll get into like old, old, like outlaw, like you know, Willie and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_06: But uh no, I don't I don't know too much 90s.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_09: Well, there's a lot of George Strait and stuff and Alan Jackson.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_07: George Strait, Alan Jackson, Mack, Clay Walker, Dwight Yoakum.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_07: Got uh all those guys.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_07: That's good stuff.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_06: All the all that's good stuff.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_06: There's so much good music out there, and that's why we do the Song of the Week segment for everybody just to get a little jam going on uh right after they've listened to this great podcast.
